Personal Note On How I Spend My Money Essay
First and foremost, before I make any big financial decision I ask myself, Is this purchase within
my means? and Do I really want this? These are the main questions that factor into how I spend
my money. If my initial gut feeling is that of uncertainty, I tend to back off from that purchase. In
2013, I purchased a black Dodge ChallengerSXT Rally Redline edition for my 24th birthday. At
the time, I was driving a silver 2007 Dodge Caliber my mother had bought for me as a graduation
gift. It was paid for in cash so the only expenses I had to worry about were insurance and
maintenance. But, there always is a but right lol. I really, really, reallyyyyy wanted a new car and
I was tired of being 6 6 squished in a Dodge Caliber. I was fortunate enough to graduate college
without any student loans and I recently just paid off a $3000 debtI owed to my University. I
wanted to reward myself for the hard work I put in throughout the years. Honestly, I don t have any
regrets I just wish I did things a little bit more differently.
Here are the numbers for my 2013 Dodge Challenger

Lundgaard Et Al. (2015) Also Recognized The Conflicting
Lundgaard et al. (2015) also recognized the conflicting hypotheses in cerebral metabolism and that
until this uncertainty is removed, the reliability of neuroimaging data interpretations is reduced. To
address this problem, they created a near infrared 2 deoxyglucose probe (2DG IR) and used two
photon microscopy to assess whether it is neurons or astrocytes which are taking up more glucose
during neuronal activation. If the ANLS hypothesis is correct, astrocytes should be observed
taking up more glucose. Whereas, if the parsimonious hypothesis is correct, glucose uptake should
be greater in neurons. First, they assessed their 2DG IR probe by comparing it to 14C glucose and
14C 2 deoxyglucose (14C 2DG) uptake in neurons and astrocytes of... Show more content on

The analysis performed was ex vivo; results showed neurons in multiple brain regions, including
CA1, took up more 2DG IR than astrocytes. Next, to determine if anaesthesia affects cerebral
metabolism, 2DG IR uptake in neurons and astrocytes of GLT1 eGFP reporter mice was
quantitatively analyzed after ketamine/xylazine administration. Anaesthesia decreased glucose
uptake in neurons more so than astrocytes. Next, Lundgaard et al. (2015) introduced the activity
dependent component to their study by unilaterally stimulating (3 Hz) the whiskers of mice and
observing 2DG IR uptake and neuronal activation. Local field potentials were measured in the
contralateral barrel cortex during whisker stimulation to ensure neurons were activated; results
confirmed neuronal activation occurred. Further, 2DG IR uptake was higher in contralateral barrel
cortex, compared to ipsilateral. Specifically, uptake in contralateral neurons was significantly
increased, whereas, astrocytic uptake was not statistically significant between the two hemispheres.
Therefore, stimulation of the sensory system caused activated neurons to take up glucose to a
greater extent than surrounding astrocytes. Finally, Lundgaard et al. (2015) used fluorescence
activated cell sorting to separate neurons and astrocytes, and then proceeded to use quantitative
polymerase chain reaction to analyze gene expression. Since

Candide in El Dorado
The Meaning of El Dorado and its contrast with the rest of the world: El Dorado appears to be the
perfect utopia, for others it represents an unrealistic place to live. For Voltaire this world meant
his entire desire and dream about the perfect society. Many critics note that El Dorado is only a
huge extravaganza because it consisted of contradictory statements. The meaning of El Dorado is a
vision of the perfect society and represents a false paradise impossible to attain or approach by the
destructive humannature. El Dorado contrasts with the rest of the world because at the time
Candide was written by Voltaire He lived in one important periods of the humanity, The
enlightenment . Around him, he saw many injustices perpetrated by... Show more content on

The real society in which Voltaire lived is composed for many institutions that he attacks in
various opportunities such as the church and the monarchy. For example, when Candide arrived
to El Dorado and he sees that all the people believe in the same thing and there s not a priest, no
hierarchy, and all the people are equal. That s a good strike from Voltaire to the church claiming
that everybody must be equal. According with Dalnekoff, El Dorado is a foil to the societies
through which Candide has passed and will pass where the inquisition imposes a reign of terror,
and poverty, corruption and oppression are everywhere to be found. (Utopia and Satire)In contrast
of El Dorado with the contemporary system, we found that in the contemporary system much
oppression and abuses have been committed and in El Dorado the inhabitants are very virtuous;
they were a society with absence of many institutions.
A very questionable point in Candide and his extraordinary optimism is why if he believes that
everything obeys a divine pattern and all is for the best, why didn t he remain in El Dorado?.
Dalknekoff states that the motives given by Candide for departing are hardly worthy of
commendation. His desire to be richer than all those around him is certainly deplorable. (
Impossible dream) As Dalknekoff said, motives that move all human beings are money and the
desire for superiority.
Moreover, Shanley and Stillman endorse Candide; who States If we stay here,

Altruistic And Of Altruistic Acts
Introduction In this section, I will deliver my idea on when people tend to be altruistic and who
they are prone to act on it. I make the assumption that the reason why someone would be altruistic
would be something that varies upon the individual, and the event they are altruistic, I hold it as a
multidimensional explanation in answering why. I think this because I can see all these models
having partial truth in the reality of how it is, I am sure that one person might help another due to
empathy, and that another might do it so they get the attention of their possible sexual partner, etc.
Every model can be correct depending on the person, and the event. I include event rather than
solely person, because although a person might often choose to be altruistic in many events for a
particular reason, this same reason doesn t necessarily have to be the case for every event they are
altruistic. However, my topic deals with my belief that who, and when altruistic acts are likely to
be executed. My premises for this idea are that when and who people are altruistic with is
something that is less fluid, than a multidimensional theory on why altruismexists, enough so that it
doesn t become an absolute principle, but a psychological tendency. This is my rough theoretical
model for a psychological tendency in altruism that I believe to be constantly realizing.
Basic Theoretical Model It is in my belief that the idea of diffusion is applicable as an explanation
or support of a

Assessment Of An Organizational Leader
Assessment of an Organizational Leader It is not uncommon for individuals in a private
corporation or in a state public sector organization to associate leadership concepts with the top
brass in today s military. Individuals will make the assumption that if someone obtains a certain
rank in the military then that person must possess the skills and qualities of an all encompassing
leader who can successfully lead the most complex of organizations. Such assumptions,
however, do not consider that the modern military does not work in this manner and leadership
is much more complex. Since 2003, the Army has fired 129 of its top leaders while who were
commanding either a battalion or a brigade (Tan, 2015). The military is in fact limited and
without external resources for leadership and without exception operates in an environment that
grooms and grows its leaders from the bottom up. This limits the ability of all of the armed
forces, including the United States Army, in allocating good leaders when at the top tier of the
organization. Basic Organizational Structure of Today s Military Today s Army typically has a
hierarchy of organizations that funnel tasks and information from the highest levels of government
to the individual Soldier on the ground. The different levels within the hierarchy are headed by an
officer. The hierarchy begins at the initial leadership level with a platoon sized element that is
often lead by a service member who is either a second or first

Factors for Academic Success
What is academic success dependent on? This has been the question for many psychological
studies. To answer this question qualitative research needs to be done to investigate what
hinders or promotes academic success. This essay will investigate these factors by way of
interviews, while framing them in the context of current research. It will then be demonstrated
how the Job Demands Resource model can be used to inform such a study. First though it will be
shown why it is of the utmost importance to identify and understand these factors, in essence
why such research should be conducted. I Reasons for the research Education is the forefront to
any countries economic standing and through education there is a ripple effect that moves
through the economy and society. It was found that in a developing country an increase of 1% in
enrolment lead to a 0.1% increase in per capita GDP (Ogunade, 2011). Therefore understanding
what hinders and aids students in their studies could potentially lead to a better economic status
(Ogunade, 2011). There are 23 public universities in South Africa and the major problem facing
them is high drop out rates and low retention (Maphosa, Sikhwari, Ndebele, Mashela, 2014). It has
been observed that in 2007 20% of students dropped out after the first year of studies and an
additional 30% after the second year, which indicates only 50% of students finished there degree
and only 15% on the allotted time (Maphosa, Sikhwari, Ndebele, Mashela, 2014).

Canada Sex Workers Summary
The author describes the impending the decision of the Supreme Court of Canada on whether
current Canadian prostitution laws are putting female sex workers at risk for violence and
murder. These laws can change the ability to do sex work in Canada, as prostitution itself is not
illegal but the Supreme Court may direct certain bans if voted in. This paper reveals the laws
are mainly aimed to protect women against harm since a year before Robert Pickton murdered
many female sex workers in British Columbia. Then Fine s paper address policies about sex
workers and if it is helping or violating workers rights. Fine s article includes a diverse array of

World Series Research Paper
The World Series is a big event that happens in MLB every year at the end of the season to see who
is the best team in the MLB. The World Series began in the year of 1903 and it has been going
on until present time. The New York Yankees were a great team throughout the 1998 season.
They had a great winning record the a MLB team could ever have; going with a record of 114 wins
and 46 six loses in the regular season. In 1998, the New York Yankees
and the San Diego Padres
had met at the World Series. it was said that the Yanks were having a great spring training. During

David Wells, better known as The Boomer took the hill for the home team against Kevin Brown
and company. When the New York scored two runs during the second inning, San Diego kept up
with two runs of their own in the third. Brown was finally replaced by Donne Wall, who was
replaced by Mark Langston who was replaced by Brian Boehringer who was sadly replaced by
Randy Myers. However, no reliever from the Padres could match with the Yankees starter jeff
Nelson and their reliever Mariano Rivera, who had closed the game on the Padres 9 to 6.
As you can see that year was a great year for the New York Yankees. As they won the World Series
in the year of 1998 on my birth year. Even though they won it easily they had to go through a lot of
practice and training. They went through tough teams. Even though the had gone through tough
times and good times the team had to put in time and effort and that is how history is

Benefits Of Artificial Inseminating A Cow
Artificial insemination is a method of reproduction that allows beef producers to use bulls that
have superior genetics at an affordable price. Many producers of purebred and commercial beef
cattle profitably use artificial insemination in their cow herds and utilize artificial insemination to
control traits such as calving ease, milk production, and feed efficiency. Take my family for
example; every year we sync our show heifers estrus cycles together and artificially inseminate
them. Artificial inseminationallows us to pick sound, purebred bulls with low birth weights,
something that is ideal for our show heifers. A successful artificial insemination program requires
attention to detail, and timing is crucial. Both a sound health... Show more content on

A CIDR is a T shaped device with flexible wings that move to form a rod to insert into the vagina,
and a tail is attached to make removal as easy as possible. The CIDR s nylon spine is covered
with a progesterone embedded silicone skin. The CIDR is inserted for seven days, which causes
the female s blood progesterone levels to rise rapidly, with maximum concentrations reached
within an hour of insertion. Progesterone levels are maintained at a constant level during the
following week. When the CIDR is removed, progesterone concentrations rapidly decrease.
Caution should be taken when handling CIDRs; always wear gloves to prevent exposure to
progesterone and the introduction of contaminants into the vaginas of other cows. The CIDR s
greatest advantage is to facilitate fixed time artificial insemination, where no estrus detection is
necessary. The protocol is simple, but there are some differences in timing for mature cows and
young heifers. For all females, the CIDR is inserted and a GnRH vaccine, such as Cystorelin or
Factrel, is injected at the same time. Seven days later, the CIDR is removed and the cow receives
a prostaglandin F2 injection, such as Lutalyse. In mature cows, artificial insemination should occur
sixty to sixty six hours after CIDR removal, and a second GnRH injection should be

Sonny s Blues Literary Devices
In any medium the last words of an author, lyricist or screenwriter are the most powerful of the
entire piece. An ending can completely ruin a perfectly good piece if it isn t what it should be. It
can also redeem a mostly mediocre piece by being exactly what it should be. Often the best
endings are ones that do not end the way the reader wants them to, but end the way the reader
knows they should. Baldwin is definitely an author who knows how to end a story.
The last four paragraphs of `Sonny s Blues are written in what some people like to call `pencil
form. This means that they are almost interchangeable, they are written in a form where one
paragraph could be before another and each could end the story. The order of them does not ... Show

In the first paragraph the ambiguousness comes to light as he states Creole began to tell us what
the blues were all about. It could have a literal meaning in the sense that Creole could be singing
of the blues, actually speaking the words and the definition. It could also mean that the music
itself tells the story of the blues. The notes and the melody intertwine to hit a chord as no words
ever could. To convey a meaning as no tale ever could. To truly bind the narrator to his brother as
no conversation ever could. It is with this paragraph that the narrator really begins to understand
his brother and perhaps begins to understand a little more about himself. Baldwin uses this
paragraph to describe the affect of music on a human in terms of finding the good in the bad and
embracing life as it is. He chooses words in his description commonly associated with music, such
as beat with He hit something in all of them, he hit something in me, myself, and the music
tightened and deepened apprehension began to beat the air. In fact the sentence itself seems to
move in beat. He uses colloquial language that you would expect to hear from someone in a jazz
joint with phrases such as he and his boys and keeping it new. The last few sentences intricately
weave together the ideas of the music and its parallel in life.
For while the tale of how we suffer, and how we are

Carnivore Leadership Case Study
CMSgt Ramon Colon Lopez also displays ethical leadership and critical thinking through the use
of ethical codes and intellectual integrity. In Carnivore Leadership, he uses the Little Blue Book

organizational climate in the unit through the use of ethical codes. Chief Colon Lopez (2013)

He asks us to use ethical codes to guide us into establishing a positive organizational climate.
Ethical leadership states, ethical codes are intended to be central guides and references for users
in support of day to day decision making...they re meant to clarify an organization s mission,
values and principles, linking them with standards of professional conduct (BCEE, 2017c, p. 4).
Ethical codes help guide us in facing ethical dilemmas. Some of these codes encompass Air
Force Instructions otherwise known as AFI s. One example of these guides is AFI 1 1, which
the Chief instructs us to adhere to in order to tip the scale of an organization to the right. Within
AFI 1 1 it gives us clear and concise lines that instruct members of an organization on how to
operate herein. Chief Colon Lopez is using these ethical codes in order to positively affect and
improve the organizational climate. In his excerpt, Chief Colon also asks of us to have intellectual
integrity when going about out business. He notes, As individual Airmen, we have a duty and
responsibility to be ready at all times to perform our assigned mission which is anything the Air
Force asks us to do...We have to pull our own weight

Essay About Work
Work can cause many issues with oneself and society. There can be a inner struggle in someone
if they don t like their job. Society can cause the discussion of jobs to become a controversial
topic. In the poems Lady In The Pink Mustang by Louise Erdrich, The Restaurant Business by
James Tate, and So Mexicans Are Taking Jobs From Americans by Jimmy Santiago Baca, the
authors use divisions and conflicts to make readers see a bigger picture.
In the poem The Lady in the Pink Mustang by Louise Erdrich the speaker tells the story of a
women in a pink mustang whos job seems to be working as a prostitute. Erdrich wants the readers
to get a sense that the women does not care much for her job but continues to do it. It can be
understood that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
None of these poems have a hidden meaning and each author had a significant way of showing the
meaning. Erich and Baca follow the template of poetry. Whereas, Tate uses the template of poetry
in story form. In all of these works readers can find that the speakers have an argument. In The Lady
In The Pink Mustang the speaker explains in the end that she is not proud of her job but she has
to make a living somehow and until she runs out of money she will do what she has to. In The
Restaurant Business Tate parallels to Erdrich by having the restaurant owner pose the argument
that though he works for his own sadness, if he choices to leave the business he loses his seat of
having a title and even though he hates to work that s the only bit of happiness he has left.
Lastly the speaker in Baca s poem constructs a real life argument and turns the whole piece of
work in a political poem by arguing the discussion of jobs in America. All of these works show that
work is hard but it is real and sometimes it is not a realistic job and not everyone will agree with the
job title or job

Regular Expression Of A Web App
Regular Expression To FSM Web App
3.1 Algorithm
3.1.1 Regular Expression Parsing
I built my own parser which will suit the recursive nature of my regular expression to Finite State
Machine Algorithm. To parse the regular expression, first, the expression is converted from infix to
prefix form. To convert from prefix to infix form, the stringis read from the back and on meeting
an operator, it is pushed to an operator stack if top of operator stack has lower precedence than the
read operator else pop it to append to front of output string. If an operand is met, simply append it
to beginning of the output string.
After converting the expression to prefix, second step is to construct expression tree where each
inner node including root node has operator as its value and the leaf nodes are operands. The
entire infix string is read from the end. If the character is an operand it is pushed to the operand
stack else if an operator is read, operands are popped from the operand stack and assigned as left
and right child of node with having the operator as the node value and pushed again into the stack.
Since the backward construction algorithm is recursive in nature, such a syntax tree makes it more
suitable for the algorithm where expression will be taken as input.
3.1.2 Regular Expression To FSM Backward Construction
After converting input expression to prefix and constructing expression tree, next steps is to
implement the Backward Construction algorithm for

Grace Hopper Essay
Many individuals have altered the way modern day programmers look at computers. Grace
Hopper was a military leader, a mathematician, and a computer programmer. Like many other
computer programmers, Hopper s work was not given the credit it deserved until the later years of
her life. Hopper joined the United States Navy (USN) during World War II. During the time which
Hopper was serving the USN she was assigned to program the IBM Automatic Sequence Controlled
Calculator (ASCC). ASCC was an electromechanical computerwhich was used in later years of
World War II. The ASCC had the ability to compute and print mathematical tables. Charles Babbage
had build the analytical engine with the intent of computing and printing mathematical tables.

A compiler is a device used to transform a set of typed codes into a different computer language. In
addition to this, Hopper was instrumental in popularizing the idea of programming languages that
would be machine independent. This led to the evolution of the modern day programming language,
Common Business Oriented Language (COBOL). In addition to being influential in computer
programming, Hopper was devoted to the USN. Hopper is often regarded as Amazing Grace for
her achievements in the USN. At age 34, Hopper attempted to enlist in the USN but was denied
due to her weight to height ratio being too low. Her job as a professor at Vassar College teaching
mathematics was also deemed unfit for her to join the USN. Like many other women deemed
unfit for the USN, Hopper volunteered to serve for Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency

accomplishments in computer science by former President of the United States, Barack Obama. In
my opinion, Hopper should have a language named after as well as Ada Lovelace. Lovelace was
known as the World s First Programmer but Hopper was also essential in bringing computer
programming closer to the modern day standard. I believe that the nickname Amazing Grace is the
most well fit for Hopper due to her outstanding accomplishments in the world of computer science

Long Bones
The femur, ulna and radius, tibia and fibula, humerus and phalanges (bones of the fingers) are all
long bones. The periosteum is the outer layer of the long bone that consists of three main parts:
Epiphysis: consists of compact (cortical) bone on the outer layer and cancellous (spongy) bone
located within the lower and upper areas of the inner layer.
Diaphysis: Is the shaft and middle part of the bone that is made up of tougher also denser cortical
bone.
Both diaphysis and epiphysis are separated by epiphysis cartilages that solidify when the growth of
a human is totally completed.
Overall all the long bones make up the majority of a person s weight, especially the femur. The
femur is the longest bone within the human body and bares most of a person s weight and also
helps to maintain balance of the skeleton.
Short Bones
Short bones are all practically equal in length and width of each other that all consist of the same
structure with the outer layer being cortical bone along with the inner layer of cancellous bone that
contains red bone marrow. The bones that are identified as short bone are as follows:
Carpals: Carpals make the wrist.
Tarsal: Make up the ankle.
Flat Bones
Flat bones consist of a layer of trabecular (spongy/cancellous) bone between two thin layers of
compact bone. The flat bones are of a flattened shape, not rounded. Examples of flat bones are as
follows, the skull and ribs. Flat bones do contain marrow, but are not a bone marrow

The Effect Of Fast Track System On Emergency Department...
Introduction In this paper I will discuss efficacy of fast track system in emergency department
across Ontario, that will influence patient satisfaction, and also identifies practices that can be used
in the Emergency Department. It also provides ways of promising strategies to help Emergency
Departments address patient satisfaction issues more effectively. Each hospitalcan identify critical
issues and processes and choose strategies to support local needs. By introducing the fast track

The fast track system can be employed at various stages to check for potential outcomes and other
implementations in the healthcare industry. On the operation stage, the system can be used to
analyze the various outcomes of patient flow study. At the strategic stage, fast track system can be
used to monitor the financial gains of an organization and evaluate its commercial health. On the
national stage, it can be used to observe the government programs that address the reduction of
wait time for the patients in the ED s. At the operational stage, it aims to present a concrete
analysis of an ED that exists within a fast track system. Introducing the fast track system was
meant to reduce the wait times in the ED (Yoon, 2003). Reducing the time would allow the increase
of the numbers of patients who come in, get treated, and discharged. It ends up increasing the
efficiency and effectiveness of the ED. Increasing the effectiveness and its capacity makes it
possible for more patients to be examined and treated because there is more time in the system. For
example, at the Grand River Hospital, there are several initiatives that are already in place that are
targeting to reduce the staying duration of the patient in the ED. These initiatives include having
nurse practitioners in the emergency department, having a specific fast track area, emergency
medical rules that permit nurses to start on

Reverend Wright s Speech Controversy
In 2003, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, President Barack Obama s former pastor, gave a sermon
that seemingly condemned America. Snippets of the reverend s speech sparked controversy in
2008 due to the fact that President Obama was still running for the democratic nominee for the
Presidential Election. Doubts about Obama began to form due to his association with Wright.
Can the country trust a man who associates with a person that hate the country? As a response to
the reverend s statement, Obama gave his speech A More Perfect Union to address the

about himself. Reverend Wright s sermon went viral due to the fact he says, Goddamn America.
In the short clips of his sermon, Reverend Wright was riling up the members of his church as he
talks about the inequalities African Americans have to face in the country. The statements made
in the short clip anger and may even have sparked some fear in people. How dare Wright to have
insulted his own country and states that it was in the Bible and did Obama share the same views

The Negative Effects Of Social Influence On Identity...
Social influence is present in all areas of human lives. Society influences people s perceptions,
attitudes, judgments, opinions or behaviors. That is why every individual modifies their action
based on the interaction they have with their environment. This influence is due to the relationship
with people, groups, institutions and with society in general. The environmenthas a bad influence on
identity development because people tend to follow what the others say and assimilate of
themselves. Society influences people negatively because it is mostly focused on the betterment of
yourself and not on people as a community. Also, familyhave a negative impact on the personality
of the householdmembers because family have the biggest role in the lives of individuals. The
relationships between the members of the household, determine the values, affections, and
attitudes of the children who want to assimilate it. Therefore, the family is the most central
influence in the lives of people. In Welty Eudora, Why I live at the P.O. family environment has a
decisive influence on the members of the household personality. Sister and Stella are two sisters
who are always against each other because it appears that their parents favor more Stella than
Sister. Besides, Sister feels better when Stella is not at home since Stella is not getting Sister into

The Dangers of Aspartame Essay
The Dangers of Aspartame
The Federal Drug Administration approved aspartame, an artificial sweetener surrounded by
controversy, for widespread consumption in 1983. Its brand name, NutraSweet, is a division of
Monsanto, a major drug company who acquired G.D. Searle, the original drug company affiliated
with aspartame. Aspartame is used in everything from diet food to sugarless gum, but its major
use is in diet drinks. There have been studies done to determine what dosage of aspartame and it s
by products, aspartic acid, methyl alcohol or methanol, and phenylalanine, is safe to consume or if
the amount is unlimited. Dr. Mark Gold (1995), a researcher involved with aspartame for over

Them ! Movie Analysis
As the final shots of the second World War were dealt, the first shots of the Cold War were fired.
After World War II, America was prosperous. They had not experienced a significant postwar
recession, nor were the masses unemployed. The United States had experienced extraordinary
economic growth in the years following the war.Despite the prosperity and growth experienced that
succeeded the war, the fear of Communism plagued the minds of Americans. Americans became
increasingly worried about the spread of Communism, and the threat of Communism destroying the
lives and values of the American people. They saw it as a threat to Democracy itself, and the fear,
the paranoia experienced by the Americans was expressed in pop culture.

The mere thought of a nuclear event or a nuclear attack on the united States was enough to scare the
entire country, but mutants and strange creatures as a result of it was over the edge. It was not
much a fear of the monsters themselves and their grotesque and gigantic appearances, but what
they represented in the films. Take the film Them! for example. Ants exposed to radiations as a
result of nuclear testing, has turned them into gigantic, mutated ants that are terrorizing the
people of New Mexico. The giant mutant ants are used in the film to not only show the dangers
of nuclear war, but to portray the soviets in a new way. In the film, Dr.Medford refers to ants in
general as savage, ruthless, and courageous fighters . By labeling the ants as savage and almost
barbaric creatures, the same could be said about the Soviets at the time. The Soviets were seen as
hard, and crude like the ants in the film, who attacked and killed innocent people.By looking at the
poster for the film, we can see the correlation between ants and Communists. The poster features a
frightened women in the jaws of a mutant ant screaming kill one and two more take its place! .
Both the giant ants and the soviets were seen to operate as a hydra. It didn t matter if you killed one
breast or one communist, because when one dies two more will replace it. The Soviets, like the
ants, had strength in numbers, a greater population that the Americans. At the end of the film
Them! they find the ant s den and throw gas in the hole and attempt to destroy and kill all the ants
living in the den. When they jump down into the cavern, they have discovered that two queen ants
have escaped, and traveled to California to create a new colony. Again, this could be characterized
similarly to the theme of the underground mentioned above, but it goes somewhat deeper than that.

The Role Of Vegetarianism In George Orwell s Animal Farm
All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others, says George Orwell in his
famous novel, Animal Farm. Although this quote was used in a completely different circumstance
in Orwell s novel, it still applies when talking about the ethics of vegetarianism/veganism; do the
animals that are killed while making vegan/vegetarian food not matter as much as those who are
killed to make meat? Many people who choose not to eat meat believe that they are superior
because having a meat free diet means that they are protesting animal cruelty. However, this is
untrue for many reasons; firstly because many animals are killed in the process of making meat
free food, and secondly because many animals that will become food are not treated... Show more

He states, In the same way that we can probably recognize animal suffering when we see it,
animal happiness is unmistakable, too, and here I was seeing it in abundance. This makes it clear
that not all animals suffer on farms, so protesting meat eating really isn t protesting animal abuse.
I too have also spent some time on a farm, and the suffering of animals that 30% of people say is
their primary reason for not eating meat (Humane Research Council) was not clear to me.
Exemplary farms such as these show that eating meat is not an unethical act. The logical faults in
the ideas of veganism and vegetarianism make it clear that eating meat is ethical. For many
reasons, eating meat is not the cruel animal killing act that many make it out to be. Animals are
killed even when making vegetarian/vegan food, and many farms that do not make meat free food
treat their animals with kindness, not cruelty. Eating other life so that we can survive has always
been an essential part of human life, and always will

Figurative Language And Imagery InJuggler, By Richard Wilbur
The poem Juggler describes how the tricks the juggler acts out for the crowd amaze and intrigue
them. In the poem Juggler by Richard Wilbur, the author uses imagery, figurative language and tone
to describe the juggler as someone who brings happiness and fun to others.
The use of imagery, figurative language, and tone are used to describe the juggler and reveal the
speaker s own views about the world.
Throughout the poem the author uses imagery to describe the juggler s appearance and the tricks
he is accomplishing in his show. For example, Wilbur states, it takes a sky blue juggler with five
red balls...to shake our gravity up. (lines 6 7). The author s description of the juggler as someone
who can shake our gravity up (line 7) shows that the juggler is someone who has a tremendous
impact on the audience and the speaker. This is true since the crowd is full of serious people and
the juggler evokes happiness and astonishment from the audience. Moreover, by saying this the
audience is able to get an insight into the life of the speaker; we are able to see that not a lot of
things happen in the speaker s life that cause or bring up excitement and happiness. Additionally,
Wilbur shows the reader how the juggler is performing, the author says, Oh, on his toe the table is
turning, the broom s Balancing up on his nose, and the plate whirls. On the tip of the broom! (lines
9 21). We can see that as the juggler is performing his great trickthe crowd is excited and amazed
at what he is accomplishing through his performance when the author says, Damn, what a show,
we cry... (line 21). Having the crowd cheer at the juggler as he completes his trick of the balancing
act showed that the juggler was able to bring happiness and amazement with the many tricks he
was able to perform for the crowd.
As the poem progresses, we can see how the juggler manipulates the five red balls he is using to
move around his body. In the poem, Wilbur uses figurative language like personification to show
how the balls move by the tricks the juggler does. For example, Wilbur says, The balls roll around,
wheel on his wheeling hand, learning the ways of lightness, alter to spheres, grazing his finger
ends, cling to their course

sexual assaultmay occur, when the sexual assault may occur, and the vulnerability of the
environment in the jails where sexual assaults can be committed to the female inmates. These

Environmental Effects Of Desertification
Background: Desertification is the degradation of land and soil in dryland ecosystems caused
by both the climate and human activities. In the year 2000, one third of the population of the
earth dwelled in dryland ecosystems, and drylands are 41% of world s land. The effect of
desertification is massive because of the amount of people that live in affected areas. Drylands
facilitate 44% of the food production in the world and 50% of livestock, so these ecosystems are
a very important source of resources. 2.6 billion people depend of the food developed in
drylands and many of those people have jobs making the food. 52% of the land is being affected
in some way by degradation because it removes the moisture that is needed to grow or herd food.
Around 800 million people are going hungry and around 80% of these people are small land
owners or they do not own any land and are very poor. This means that those small land owners
might not have any land in the end because of the deterioration of healthy soil. Land degradation
also effects water quantity and quality. Clean water is one of the most important resources in the
world, and desertificationeliminates that resource. 74% of those in poverty are directly affected
by land degradation. 10 20% of drylands are degraded already. The places most effected by
desertification are sub Saharan and Central Asia drylands. Desertification occurs for various
reasons. It can come from a failure to balance how much the ecosystemcan give as

Essay On Physical Contact
Physical Contact in the Arab World vs. the West
Bayader Al Ghamdi
Effat University
Junior Year
GSEM 200
Introduction: Physical contact is a form of communication that requires no verbal communication
or writing in order to be understood although it may differ from one country and culture to another.
Body language is considered to be a silent form of communications that succeeds to deliver an idea
or a message. Most of the time, hand gestures and physical contact are known to be more effective
than words. The most important thing in communication is hearing what is not said. (Peter
Durocher, 1967, p2). Such as, a wide smile on a child s face can say more than a thousand words
could ever say. Thus, there are many forms of nonverbal communications that touch the deep sense
of humanity. Physical interaction is one of the most essential factors of human communication.
Generally, it is considered as a strong form of communication. The human body is the best picture
of the human soul , Ludwig Wittgenstein. Physical contact can help an individual gain another
person s trust over a short period of time. However, it is still a complex topic because it differs
from one culture to another. Each culture has its own traditions and ideologies. Furthermore, in
some culture, certain forms of physical contact are considered forbidden, offensive or taboo. This

similarities with other disorders such as disregard of others, instability in relationships, tend to be
emotional and attention seeking, and exaggerate self importance. Though the exact cause of this
personality disorderis unknown, there have been numerous speculations and theories. What is
known however, is that an individual that is of Narcissistic Personality Disorderusually displays

While most people would clearly be aware of the fact that they have to wait in line (as most
individuals do) in order to pay for their items and be on their way, a narcissists would disagree.
This is because Narcissist as talked about the Abnormal Psychology book, . . . do not care to wait in
line or take their turn: they expect special privileges because of their obvious superiority to
others (Lyons, C., Martin, B., 2014, pg. 206). They believe and view themselves as priority
regardless of their location or circumstance. In their minds limits, exclusions, the word no, or off
limits does not apply to them simply because of their apparent superiority to others. Due to these
beliefs, they . . . are condescending and haughtily in attitude and behavior. (206) towards anyone
who crosses their path. This too applies to their relationships, whether family, social, or
acquaintance. Narcissist view others as means to their ends, because of their perspective they do
not feel empathy and use others for their own gains. Which is why often times, they will surround
themselves with individuals that will feed their ego due to that, they always want, look for, and
expect to receive compliments from others. However, if they do not receive the attention or
compliments expected, this will further encourage their Narcissistic ways in order to protect the
well being of their ego and avoid

The Nature Of Love In Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 By William...
William Shakespeare is recognized for being one of greatest poets of all time. His works are still
popular to this day. Many of his works included extended metaphors and similes with rhetorical
language and were rooted in the nature of love. Two of his poems that are rather alike, but also
very contrastive are Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? and My mistresses eyes are
nothing like the sun. They both contain a core theme of love or anti love in some aspects.
While these two poems are built around the same type of subject, their interpretations come
across in separate ways. In contrast to Shakespeare s Sonnet 18 which is a serious love poem
that contains imagery and metaphors, Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 is more negative and
humorous but contains imagery and similes. Overall, both of these poems fulfill the same
motive. They were written to praise women, but the two use different methods for doing so. In
Sonnet 18 , Shakespeare compares his lover with the negative aspects of summer stating /Thou
art more lovely and more temperate/ (2). On the other hand in Sonnet 130 , Shakespeare
compares his mistress to the good qualities of acquisitive things to show how even though she is
not perfect, she is still important to him. He vows by heaven (13) that the feelings he has for his
mistress are as rare /As any she belied with false compare/ (14). The messages delivered by the two
poems are very unique. In Sonnet 18 , the woman being described is perfect and does

The Hrossa Analysis
After Ransom s escape, he finds this utopian world that he becomes very fond of later on. His
courage is shown throughout the book such as fighting with the sea monster. Luckily, the local
Martians took him in and showed the extraordinary outside of their tranquil, idealistic ways of
living. They are fundamentally as amazed to have a guest from Earth as Ransom is amazed to be
their visitor. To them, Earth is a quiet planet. A simple world with no strange association with
whatever remains of the universe. The Hrossa are portrayed as hunters and humanlike creatures in
the book. They are really close to nature and show many interest in music and poetry. The pale
textured animals to some degree look like giraffes, just slimmer and very tall. Their

Culture And Leadership Paper
Culture influences leadership in many ways, so it is helpful to first understand what culture is.
According to our text culture is defined as the learned beliefs, values, rules, norms, symbols, and
traditions that are common to a group of people (Northouse, 2016). Culture is the way of life,
customs, and script of a group of people. Different cultures have different ideas about what they
want from their leaders, but by understanding cultural differences leaders can become more
empathetic and accurate in their communicationwith others. It is clear that different culturegroups
desire different leadershipbehaviors when they are looking for an effective leader. Surprisingly
there were effective leadership attributes that was identified as universal characteristics. Positive

By incorporating the principles of ethical leadership it provides the foundation for the
development of a ethical organization which will help with decision making. Ethical leaders need
to respect others, service others, show justice, manifest honesty, and builds the community. In an
organization I believe all leaders should be required to go through a training to teach the
development of ethical leadership. I believe we must start with the leaders in order to get others to
follow along with the right behavior. Mangers in an organization should also be required to attend
a program and training to become more ethically effective at work and in life and to help make
ethical decisions. Managers and leaders can benefit and use the information to have a better
understanding of themselves and strengthen their own leadership skills. Leaders must understand
that to be an ethical leader, they must be sensitive to the needs of others, treat others in ways that
are just, and care for

Cyra Malfadden On Language Summary
In the article On Language; IN DEFENSE OF GENDER, author Cyra McFadden is trying to start
a discussion on how our language is primarily male oriented, but does not need to change.
McFadden mocks the variations being made to conform to a gender neutral language, including the
use of words like persons . By mocking the use of the neutral words like persons, it obvious that
McFadden is displeased with the changes of taking masculinity out of everyday language usage.
The masculine undertone of the English language and its unwanted changes are being
acknowledged and scrutinized because, of new genderidentifiers in the working class, written
language, and our spoken language.
The author makes a mockery out of the slashes used for words like he ... Show more content on

This supports the author s goal because, it brings to life her negative thoughts on people
referring to males and females as persons in order to accommodate the sensitivity of the other
gender. I disagree with McFadden s thoughts on referring to people as persons is ludicrous. By
mocking the accommodation of a new gender sensitive language, it s as if Cyra McFadden is
bringing women down, instead of uplifting us. We live in a time where women can be first
responders, on the front lines of war, and have important political power, yet it is easy to see as a
woman that we still have to fight for equality. This is the reason it is imperative to make the
changes towards a gender neutral language.
McFadden makes it known that the gender variations replaced by he slash she are unwelcome
and distracting. She describes the sound of the words he slash she while being read aloud, as a
replay of the Charles Manson killings. McFadden writes about the literary changes as a distraction
saying in print, those person suffixes and he/she s jump out from the page, as distracting as a cloud
of gnats, demanding that the reader note the writer s virtue (McFadden,

Evaluation Of Hedonic Price Model
4. Methodology
4.1. Analytical Framework (Generalized Spatial Two Stage Least Square: GS2SLS)
Hedonic price model has been developed and widely used to identify the factors explaining housing
prices (Malpezzi, 2003). In this study, we deal with additional two statistical issues such as
endogeneity between land use and housing price and spatial autocorrelation between housing prices.
First, endogeneity should be carefully accounted for when measuring the effect of land use on
housing prices because a simultaneous relationship between land use and housing prices exists.
For example, better accessibility or high levels of mixed land use increase housing prices because
such land use features bring about more activities firms are encouraged ... Show more content on

However, this approach cannot deal with spatial autocorrelation between housing prices. Previous
studies have demonstrated that housing prices can be spatially affected by neighboring housing
prices or unobserved neighboring factors. If we do not control for the spatial autocorrelation, the
estimated values can be biased and inefficient (Anselin, 1988). In order to account for the issue, we
use generalized spatial two stage least square (GS2SLS) model that accounts for the endogeneity
and spatial autocorrelation together, which is expressed as the following equations;
P=О»WP+О±L М‚+ОІX+u (5) u=ПЃWu+Пµ Because the hedonic price model generally uses a
log form of housing prices, our final empirical model used in this study is expressed as the
following equations;
lnвЃЎ(P)=О»W[ln(P)]+О±L М‚+ОІX+u(6) u=ПЃWu+Пµ 4.2. Spatial Weight Matrix
A spatial weight matrix presents the pairwise spatial relationship between two any spatial units. It
has two different types such as contiguity based weight matrix and distance based weight matrix.
Although it can be chosen by researcher s judgement, distance based weight matrix is more
appropriate when the size of spatial units is irregular (e.g., in the case of census tracts). Hence, the
spatial weight matrix used in this analysis is expressed as the follows;
W_ij={■(1 if d_ij≤C @0 if d_ij C or i=j)┤(7)
where C denotes a distance cutoff

social workers, and marriage and family therapists to clients in need of services. According to their
website, BetterHelp is the largest online counseling platform worldwide and their aim is to adapt
traditional counselinginto the lifestyle and expectations of today s consumers (BetterHelp, 2016).
Clients are able to receive counseling messages from professionals using technology such as
computers, tablets, and smart phones. BetterHelp s online counseling services have similar benefits

The Schlieffen Plan And The Two Front War
Anna Greer
March 16, 2017
5th Period
The Schlieffen Plan and the Two Front War
Alfred von Schlieffen, Chief of the Imperial German General Staff, created The Schlieffen Plan for
war against France and Russia. It was designed to avoid a two front war. Seven eighths of german
troops were sent to surround the strong french defenses by going through Belgium and the
Netherlands while a third were ready at Germany and France s border to attack. After the success
of the attack on France, they planned to send the rest of the troops to Russia. Germany had no plan
for dealing with Russia once the troops got there.
When Helmuth von Moltke took Schlieffen s place, he changed the plan. Instead of invading the
Netherlands, he decided to only invade Belgium.

A Comparison Of The Moth In A Tale Of Two Cities
The Death in honour Is someone s passion for something or someone a reason to give all you
have, including their own life, for that something or someone? Is this an honorable act to do so?
After examining the classic A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, the poem The Lesson of the
Moth by Don Marquis, and The Life and Deathof Shane McConkey by Tim Sohn , it is evident
that it is possible to value something or someone more than your own life and doing so can be
considered honorable. Sometimes those who seem the most selfish can truly be the most caring.
This is how Sydney Carton is portrayed in the book A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. He
is wasting away his life drinking alcohol, seemingly to not care about anything. However... Show

However in a different way and for different reasons. The Moth is willing to go close to a fire,
close enough to die, because it gave him joy. The cockroach asks why the moth is putting
himself so close to death for happiness. The moth replies saying it is better to be happy for a
moment and die then live long and be bored for the entirety of your life. (Don Marquis) The
moth goes on saying ...we are like human beings used to be before they became too civilized to
enjoy themselves, (Don Marquis). The moth feels that it is better to find something to make life
have meaning rather than to live long with no meaning. There is no joy in the only life he can live
so he went to the one thing that brought joy and beauty in the world and died for that. Burning up
in a beautiful flame with the moment of happiness before leaving this world had more meaning
and honour than living the same, boring live and waiting to die when becoming old. The moth had
nothing else to be but be alive and that was not truly living, just surviving. Comparable to Sydney
Carton, dying was the only way to truly live, therefore, it is an honorable act that the moth died in
happiness and

The Desperation On Johnny s Face
Stopping at the frightened and confused look John was giving him, Roy trailed off, I m sorry.
Too much, Johnny tried explaining.
I was talking too fast? And I was talking about too many subjects? Roy asked slowly.
Nodding, Johnny yawned and gasped.
Shhh, it s okay, Roy soothed, rubbing his arm. You have a lot of wounds on different parts of your
body.
Confused about why he had them, but unable to figure out how to ask, John just looked towards
Roy.
Not able to know words, tell me, clear up why, Johnny pleaded in his head, frustrated to feel as
though his mind was trying to think while being encased in mud.
Do you want to know what happened? Why you are hurting now? asked Roy, reading the
desperation on Johnny s face.
Nodding, John groaned as it set off a round of nauseous and increased the thumping inside his head.
Don t worry, you can t get sick, Roy assured him. The doctors have a tube going in your nose that
makes sure that it doesn t happen. I know it s not fun and itches, but it s better than getting sick.
Sighing, John leaned back on the bed and waited for Roy to begin explaining. Starting with the
shortened version of being caught in a fire that caused him to be thrown a bit, Roy then moved on
to let John know the various injuries that were caused by that. Once he went through that, Roy
pointed out each tube and what it was for, hoping that at some level Johnny was understanding it.
Considering how he looked however, Roy figured that most of the

An Analysis Of Rick Moody s Boys
Each story makes use of a very unique tone and form of narration yet these same qualities can be
compared to some extent across these essays. The authors utilize different forms of writing to
convey their intended focus to the audience. I found each story relative to one another in that they
all seemed to touch of the subject of the roles of different genders in our contemporary society
maybe even across different cultures.
Rick Moody s short story Boys is written with a distinct style. The author uses a form of a stream
of consciousness to convey the purpose at hand, which encompasses writing as if without
hesitation or editing whatever came to Moody s thoughts, he transferred to text. There was also
a substantial use of the word boys , placing emphasis on the central meaning of the story. The
style is thoroughly descriptive and fails to leave any details of the boys lives out. This quality
donates a sense of reality and creates a bond between the reader and the characters. The tone of
the story comes of as particularly unbiased and serious, as if the author were just stating purely
factual information. As events become more somber in the boys lives, the author approaches a
more sympathetic tone. The boys were supposed to be kids, fooling around playing games and
living a care free childhood, but these boys found themselves in scenarios no boy or child should
ever encompass.
In the story Boys by Rick Moody from the book Literature To Go, The narrator writes

Starwood Hotel and Resorts Call Center Networking
Starwood Hotel and Resorts Call Center Networking Starwood Hotels and resorts is one of the
world s largest hotel and leisure companies. The company owns thousands of Hotels and Resorts
as well as seven call centers in which help keep everything running smoothly for the company. Of
course this means there is an expansive network working to keep all this information flowing from
every hoteland call center. This paper will focus on the network of the call center in Lancaster,
California in which I used to work at as a customer service representative. First the paper will give
an overview of the company. Then, a depiction of the network that is being used by the call center
will be explained.

The IVR technology used for the call centers specific needs is called Telephony Infrastructure as
stated by the Voxeo (2009) website Telephone lines for IVR can be standard analog lines, digital
T1, or digital ISDN lines. These lines are connected on one side to the IVR platform and, on the
other, to call switching equipment including Telco switches, Voice over IP gateways, and
corporate PBX s; or in some cases, directly to call centers via an ACD. I recall one day when
none of the computers were working we had to write everything down manually then input the
information in as soon as the network was live once again. This is how I narrowed down which
kind of topology that the Lancaster call center was using. The wiring of the call center is most
likely wired with Fiber Optic cables. This is mainly due to the fact that the call center is located in
a downtown area surrounded by many electrical devices that could cause interference with their
network. The bandwidth is extremely high with heavy use of the network throughout the building
so fiber optic cabling would be needed in order to provide the call center with exactly what is
needed to maintain communication.
In conclusion, this paper has given an overview of the network for Starwood Hotels and Resorts
network at their Lancaster, CA location. First, an explanation of the network provided for the
training station was given. Then a depiction of the live network in which

The rising popularity of survey research and the growing number of Internet users in the 1990 led

The Physics of Turbo Chargers Essay
Do you want your car to pick up speed faster? How about adding a turbo booster on that engine
under your automobiles hood. A turbo charger is a very efficient way to gain power. To fully
understand the function of this component, lets look at the physics behind it. The Ideal Gas model
has much to do in turbochargers. I will explain the theory and components like the compressor,
turbine, intercooler, wastegate, and the BOV.
Matter is assumed to be composed of an enormous number of very tiny particles which are
indestructible. Gas is a state of matter. These tiny particles are separated by relatively large distances
, which interact elastically. This large space between the particles make it easy to compress a gas.
Which gives low mass to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A turbine is placed in the path of the exhaust gases which are exiting the engine. These gases are
caught in the turbine causing it to spin. This spins a shaft along with another pinwheel called the
compressor, which is placed in the intake air s path. This compresses the air on its way into the
engine. Normal aspirated engines work to draw in their intake air. As the intake valve opens, the
piston s downward movement creates a vacuum which sucks in some air through the intake system.
After the work performed by the expansion of the gas in a small space, where the high pressure
creates a push against the piston, most of the heat or energy is dumped into the exhaust. This heated
air is not in the cylinder long enough to convert all the heat into mechanical energy.
We need to get some use out of this other wise wasted energy. What we really want is more
power, and for this unfortunately the engine needs to burn more fuel. The turbine fed by the
exhaust gases connects to a compressor that compresses intake air into the engine, which builds up
pressure in the intake manifold. Now when the intake valve opens, the compressed air is forced
into the combustion chamber. This allows more air to fill the chamber. We will need more fuel to
match the amount of air in the combustion chamber. On computerized cars, computers take care of
this accordingly. What you get is a more explosive force from combustion, and more compression,
about 60 percent better

  • 2. Personal Note On How I Spend My Money Essay First and foremost, before I make any big financial decision I ask myself, Is this purchase within my means? and Do I really want this? These are the main questions that factor into how I spend my money. If my initial gut feeling is that of uncertainty, I tend to back off from that purchase. In 2013, I purchased a black Dodge ChallengerSXT Rally Redline edition for my 24th birthday. At the time, I was driving a silver 2007 Dodge Caliber my mother had bought for me as a graduation gift. It was paid for in cash so the only expenses I had to worry about were insurance and maintenance. But, there always is a but right lol. I really, really, reallyyyyy wanted a new car and I was tired of being 6 6 squished in a Dodge Caliber. I was fortunate enough to graduate college without any student loans and I recently just paid off a $3000 debtI owed to my University. I wanted to reward myself for the hard work I put in throughout the years. Honestly, I don t have any regrets I just wish I did things a little bit more differently. Here are the numbers for my 2013 Dodge Challenger CAR PRICE MSRP $31190 Price Paid $28,690 GA State Taxes $1435 GA State Fees $53 Dealer Customer Service Fee $489 New Max Care Coverage Plan $1997 Optional Gap Insurance $800 Total Purchase Price $33,464 DOWN PAYMENT Trade In Allowance $4600 MFG Rebates $2500 Total Down payment $7100 AUTO LOAN Amount Financed $26,364 Length of Loan 75 months Payment per month $435 Loan APR 7% Finance Charge $6,261 ... • 3. Lundgaard Et Al. (2015) Also Recognized The Conflicting Lundgaard et al. (2015) also recognized the conflicting hypotheses in cerebral metabolism and that until this uncertainty is removed, the reliability of neuroimaging data interpretations is reduced. To address this problem, they created a near infrared 2 deoxyglucose probe (2DG IR) and used two photon microscopy to assess whether it is neurons or astrocytes which are taking up more glucose during neuronal activation. If the ANLS hypothesis is correct, astrocytes should be observed taking up more glucose. Whereas, if the parsimonious hypothesis is correct, glucose uptake should be greater in neurons. First, they assessed their 2DG IR probe by comparing it to 14C glucose and 14C 2 deoxyglucose (14C 2DG) uptake in neurons and astrocytes of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The analysis performed was ex vivo; results showed neurons in multiple brain regions, including CA1, took up more 2DG IR than astrocytes. Next, to determine if anaesthesia affects cerebral metabolism, 2DG IR uptake in neurons and astrocytes of GLT1 eGFP reporter mice was quantitatively analyzed after ketamine/xylazine administration. Anaesthesia decreased glucose uptake in neurons more so than astrocytes. Next, Lundgaard et al. (2015) introduced the activity dependent component to their study by unilaterally stimulating (3 Hz) the whiskers of mice and observing 2DG IR uptake and neuronal activation. Local field potentials were measured in the contralateral barrel cortex during whisker stimulation to ensure neurons were activated; results confirmed neuronal activation occurred. Further, 2DG IR uptake was higher in contralateral barrel cortex, compared to ipsilateral. Specifically, uptake in contralateral neurons was significantly increased, whereas, astrocytic uptake was not statistically significant between the two hemispheres. Therefore, stimulation of the sensory system caused activated neurons to take up glucose to a greater extent than surrounding astrocytes. Finally, Lundgaard et al. (2015) used fluorescence activated cell sorting to separate neurons and astrocytes, and then proceeded to use quantitative polymerase chain reaction to analyze gene expression. Since ... • 6. Candide in El Dorado The Meaning of El Dorado and its contrast with the rest of the world: El Dorado appears to be the perfect utopia, for others it represents an unrealistic place to live. For Voltaire this world meant his entire desire and dream about the perfect society. Many critics note that El Dorado is only a huge extravaganza because it consisted of contradictory statements. The meaning of El Dorado is a vision of the perfect society and represents a false paradise impossible to attain or approach by the destructive humannature. El Dorado contrasts with the rest of the world because at the time Candide was written by Voltaire He lived in one important periods of the humanity, The enlightenment . Around him, he saw many injustices perpetrated by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The real society in which Voltaire lived is composed for many institutions that he attacks in various opportunities such as the church and the monarchy. For example, when Candide arrived to El Dorado and he sees that all the people believe in the same thing and there s not a priest, no hierarchy, and all the people are equal. That s a good strike from Voltaire to the church claiming that everybody must be equal. According with Dalnekoff, El Dorado is a foil to the societies through which Candide has passed and will pass where the inquisition imposes a reign of terror, and poverty, corruption and oppression are everywhere to be found. (Utopia and Satire)In contrast of El Dorado with the contemporary system, we found that in the contemporary system much oppression and abuses have been committed and in El Dorado the inhabitants are very virtuous; they were a society with absence of many institutions. A very questionable point in Candide and his extraordinary optimism is why if he believes that everything obeys a divine pattern and all is for the best, why didn t he remain in El Dorado?. Dalknekoff states that the motives given by Candide for departing are hardly worthy of commendation. His desire to be richer than all those around him is certainly deplorable. ( Impossible dream) As Dalknekoff said, motives that move all human beings are money and the desire for superiority. Moreover, Shanley and Stillman endorse Candide; who States If we stay here, ... • 7. Altruistic And Of Altruistic Acts Introduction In this section, I will deliver my idea on when people tend to be altruistic and who they are prone to act on it. I make the assumption that the reason why someone would be altruistic would be something that varies upon the individual, and the event they are altruistic, I hold it as a multidimensional explanation in answering why. I think this because I can see all these models having partial truth in the reality of how it is, I am sure that one person might help another due to empathy, and that another might do it so they get the attention of their possible sexual partner, etc. Every model can be correct depending on the person, and the event. I include event rather than solely person, because although a person might often choose to be altruistic in many events for a particular reason, this same reason doesn t necessarily have to be the case for every event they are altruistic. However, my topic deals with my belief that who, and when altruistic acts are likely to be executed. My premises for this idea are that when and who people are altruistic with is something that is less fluid, than a multidimensional theory on why altruismexists, enough so that it doesn t become an absolute principle, but a psychological tendency. This is my rough theoretical model for a psychological tendency in altruism that I believe to be constantly realizing. Basic Theoretical Model It is in my belief that the idea of diffusion is applicable as an explanation or support of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Assessment Of An Organizational Leader Assessment of an Organizational Leader It is not uncommon for individuals in a private corporation or in a state public sector organization to associate leadership concepts with the top brass in today s military. Individuals will make the assumption that if someone obtains a certain rank in the military then that person must possess the skills and qualities of an all encompassing leader who can successfully lead the most complex of organizations. Such assumptions, however, do not consider that the modern military does not work in this manner and leadership is much more complex. Since 2003, the Army has fired 129 of its top leaders while who were commanding either a battalion or a brigade (Tan, 2015). The military is in fact limited and without external resources for leadership and without exception operates in an environment that grooms and grows its leaders from the bottom up. This limits the ability of all of the armed forces, including the United States Army, in allocating good leaders when at the top tier of the organization. Basic Organizational Structure of Today s Military Today s Army typically has a hierarchy of organizations that funnel tasks and information from the highest levels of government to the individual Soldier on the ground. The different levels within the hierarchy are headed by an officer. The hierarchy begins at the initial leadership level with a platoon sized element that is often lead by a service member who is either a second or first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Factors for Academic Success What is academic success dependent on? This has been the question for many psychological studies. To answer this question qualitative research needs to be done to investigate what hinders or promotes academic success. This essay will investigate these factors by way of interviews, while framing them in the context of current research. It will then be demonstrated how the Job Demands Resource model can be used to inform such a study. First though it will be shown why it is of the utmost importance to identify and understand these factors, in essence why such research should be conducted. I Reasons for the research Education is the forefront to any countries economic standing and through education there is a ripple effect that moves through the economy and society. It was found that in a developing country an increase of 1% in enrolment lead to a 0.1% increase in per capita GDP (Ogunade, 2011). Therefore understanding what hinders and aids students in their studies could potentially lead to a better economic status (Ogunade, 2011). There are 23 public universities in South Africa and the major problem facing them is high drop out rates and low retention (Maphosa, Sikhwari, Ndebele, Mashela, 2014). It has been observed that in 2007 20% of students dropped out after the first year of studies and an additional 30% after the second year, which indicates only 50% of students finished there degree and only 15% on the allotted time (Maphosa, Sikhwari, Ndebele, Mashela, 2014). ... The World Series began in the year of 1903 and it has been going on until present time. The New York Yankees were a great team throughout the 1998 season. They had a great winning record the a MLB team could ever have; going with a record of 114 wins and 46 six loses in the regular season. In 1998, the New York Yankees and the San Diego Padres had met at the World Series. it was said that the Yanks were having a great spring training. • 13. Benefits Of Artificial Inseminating A Cow Artificial insemination is a method of reproduction that allows beef producers to use bulls that have superior genetics at an affordable price. Many producers of purebred and commercial beef cattle profitably use artificial insemination in their cow herds and utilize artificial insemination to control traits such as calving ease, milk production, and feed efficiency. Take my family for example; every year we sync our show heifers estrus cycles together and artificially inseminate them. Artificial inseminationallows us to pick sound, purebred bulls with low birth weights, something that is ideal for our show heifers. A successful artificial insemination program requires attention to detail, and timing is crucial. Both a sound health... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A CIDR is a T shaped device with flexible wings that move to form a rod to insert into the vagina, and a tail is attached to make removal as easy as possible. The CIDR s nylon spine is covered with a progesterone embedded silicone skin. The CIDR is inserted for seven days, which causes the female s blood progesterone levels to rise rapidly, with maximum concentrations reached within an hour of insertion. Progesterone levels are maintained at a constant level during the following week. When the CIDR is removed, progesterone concentrations rapidly decrease. Caution should be taken when handling CIDRs; always wear gloves to prevent exposure to progesterone and the introduction of contaminants into the vaginas of other cows. The CIDR s greatest advantage is to facilitate fixed time artificial insemination, where no estrus detection is necessary. The protocol is simple, but there are some differences in timing for mature cows and young heifers. For all females, the CIDR is inserted and a GnRH vaccine, such as Cystorelin or Factrel, is injected at the same time. Seven days later, the CIDR is removed and the cow receives a prostaglandin F2 injection, such as Lutalyse. In mature cows, artificial insemination should occur sixty to sixty six hours after CIDR removal, and a second GnRH injection should be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Sonny s Blues Literary Devices In any medium the last words of an author, lyricist or screenwriter are the most powerful of the entire piece. An ending can completely ruin a perfectly good piece if it isn t what it should be. It can also redeem a mostly mediocre piece by being exactly what it should be. Often the best endings are ones that do not end the way the reader wants them to, but end the way the reader knows they should. Baldwin is definitely an author who knows how to end a story. The last four paragraphs of `Sonny s Blues are written in what some people like to call `pencil form. This means that they are almost interchangeable, they are written in a form where one paragraph could be before another and each could end the story. The order of them does not ... To truly bind the narrator to his brother as no conversation ever could. It is with this paragraph that the narrator really begins to understand his brother and perhaps begins to understand a little more about himself. Baldwin uses this paragraph to describe the affect of music on a human in terms of finding the good in the bad and embracing life as it is. He chooses words in his description commonly associated with music, such as beat with He hit something in all of them, he hit something in me, myself, and the music tightened and deepened apprehension began to beat the air. In fact the sentence itself seems to move in beat. He uses colloquial language that you would expect to hear from someone in a jazz joint with phrases such as he and his boys and keeping it new. Society can cause the discussion of jobs to become a controversial topic. In the poems Lady In The Pink Mustang by Louise Erdrich, The Restaurant Business by James Tate, and So Mexicans Are Taking Jobs From Americans by Jimmy Santiago Baca, the authors use divisions and conflicts to make readers see a bigger picture. In the poem The Lady in the Pink Mustang by Louise Erdrich the speaker tells the story of a women in a pink mustang whos job seems to be working as a prostitute. In The Lady In The Pink Mustang the speaker explains in the end that she is not proud of her job but she has to make a living somehow and until she runs out of money she will do what she has to. In The Restaurant Business Tate parallels to Erdrich by having the restaurant owner pose the argument that though he works for his own sadness, if he choices to leave the business he loses his seat of having a title and even though he hates to work that s the only bit of happiness he has left. Lastly the speaker in Baca s poem constructs a real life argument and turns the whole piece of work in a political poem by arguing the discussion of jobs in America. • 17. Regular Expression Of A Web App Regular Expression To FSM Web App 3.1 Algorithm 3.1.1 Regular Expression Parsing I built my own parser which will suit the recursive nature of my regular expression to Finite State Machine Algorithm. To parse the regular expression, first, the expression is converted from infix to prefix form. To convert from prefix to infix form, the stringis read from the back and on meeting an operator, it is pushed to an operator stack if top of operator stack has lower precedence than the read operator else pop it to append to front of output string. If an operand is met, simply append it to beginning of the output string. After converting the expression to prefix, second step is to construct expression tree where each inner node including root node has operator as its value and the leaf nodes are operands. The entire infix string is read from the end. If the character is an operand it is pushed to the operand stack else if an operator is read, operands are popped from the operand stack and assigned as left and right child of node with having the operator as the node value and pushed again into the stack. Since the backward construction algorithm is recursive in nature, such a syntax tree makes it more suitable for the algorithm where expression will be taken as input. 3.1.2 Regular Expression To FSM Backward Construction After converting input expression to prefix and constructing expression tree, next steps is to implement the Backward Construction algorithm for ... For example, Wilbur states, it takes a sky blue juggler with five red balls...to shake our gravity up. (lines 6 7). The author s description of the juggler as someone who can shake our gravity up (line 7) shows that the juggler is someone who has a tremendous impact on the audience and the speaker. This is true since the crowd is full of serious people and the juggler evokes happiness and astonishment from the audience. Moreover, by saying this the audience is able to get an insight into the life of the speaker; we are able to see that not a lot of things happen in the speaker s life that cause or bring up excitement and happiness. • 36. Environmental Effects Of Desertification Background: Desertification is the degradation of land and soil in dryland ecosystems caused by both the climate and human activities. In the year 2000, one third of the population of the earth dwelled in dryland ecosystems, and drylands are 41% of world s land. The effect of desertification is massive because of the amount of people that live in affected areas. Drylands facilitate 44% of the food production in the world and 50% of livestock, so these ecosystems are a very important source of resources. 2.6 billion people depend of the food developed in drylands and many of those people have jobs making the food. 52% of the land is being affected in some way by degradation because it removes the moisture that is needed to grow or herd food. Around 800 million people are going hungry and around 80% of these people are small land owners or they do not own any land and are very poor. This means that those small land owners might not have any land in the end because of the deterioration of healthy soil. Land degradation also effects water quantity and quality. Clean water is one of the most important resources in the world, and desertificationeliminates that resource. 74% of those in poverty are directly affected by land degradation. 10 20% of drylands are degraded already. The places most effected by desertification are sub Saharan and Central Asia drylands. Desertification occurs for various reasons. It can come from a failure to balance how much the ecosystemcan give as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On Physical Contact Physical Contact in the Arab World vs. the West Bayader Al Ghamdi Effat University Junior Year GSEM 200 Introduction: Physical contact is a form of communication that requires no verbal communication or writing in order to be understood although it may differ from one country and culture to another. Body language is considered to be a silent form of communications that succeeds to deliver an idea or a message. Most of the time, hand gestures and physical contact are known to be more effective than words. The most important thing in communication is hearing what is not said. (Peter Durocher, 1967, p2). Such as, a wide smile on a child s face can say more than a thousand words could ever say. Thus, there are many forms of nonverbal communications that touch the deep sense of humanity. Physical interaction is one of the most essential factors of human communication. Generally, it is considered as a strong form of communication. The human body is the best picture of the human soul , Ludwig Wittgenstein. Physical contact can help an individual gain another person s trust over a short period of time. However, it is still a complex topic because it differs from one culture to another. • 41. The Nature Of Love In Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 By William... William Shakespeare is recognized for being one of greatest poets of all time. His works are still popular to this day. Many of his works included extended metaphors and similes with rhetorical language and were rooted in the nature of love. Two of his poems that are rather alike, but also very contrastive are Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? and My mistresses eyes are nothing like the sun. They both contain a core theme of love or anti love in some aspects. While these two poems are built around the same type of subject, their interpretations come across in separate ways. In contrast to Shakespeare s Sonnet 18 which is a serious love poem that contains imagery and metaphors, Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 is more negative and humorous but contains imagery and similes. Overall, both of these poems fulfill the same motive. They were written to praise women, but the two use different methods for doing so. In Sonnet 18 , Shakespeare compares his lover with the negative aspects of summer stating /Thou art more lovely and more temperate/ (2). On the other hand in Sonnet 130 , Shakespeare compares his mistress to the good qualities of acquisitive things to show how even though she is not perfect, she is still important to him. He vows by heaven (13) that the feelings he has for his mistress are as rare /As any she belied with false compare/ (14). The messages delivered by the two poems are very unique. McFadden mocks the variations being made to conform to a gender neutral language, including the use of words like persons . By mocking the use of the neutral words like persons, it obvious that McFadden is displeased with the changes of taking masculinity out of everyday language usage. We live in a time where women can be first responders, on the front lines of war, and have important political power, yet it is easy to see as a woman that we still have to fight for equality. Analytical Framework (Generalized Spatial Two Stage Least Square: GS2SLS) Hedonic price model has been developed and widely used to identify the factors explaining housing prices (Malpezzi, 2003). In this study, we deal with additional two statistical issues such as endogeneity between land use and housing price and spatial autocorrelation between housing prices. First, endogeneity should be carefully accounted for when measuring the effect of land use on housing prices because a simultaneous relationship between land use and housing prices exists. For example, better accessibility or high levels of mixed land use increase housing prices because such land use features bring about more activities firms are encouraged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this approach cannot deal with spatial autocorrelation between housing prices. Previous studies have demonstrated that housing prices can be spatially affected by neighboring housing prices or unobserved neighboring factors. If we do not control for the spatial autocorrelation, the estimated values can be biased and inefficient (Anselin, 1988). In order to account for the issue, we use generalized spatial two stage least square (GS2SLS) model that accounts for the endogeneity and spatial autocorrelation together, which is expressed as the following equations; P=О»WP+О±L М‚+ОІX+u (5) u=ПЃWu+Пµ Because the hedonic price model generally uses a log form of housing prices, our final empirical model used in this study is expressed as the following equations; lnвЃЎ(P)=О»W[ln(P)]+О±L М‚+ОІX+u(6) u=ПЃWu+Пµ 4.2. It has two different types such as contiguity based weight matrix and distance based weight matrix. Although it can be chosen by researcher s judgement, distance based weight matrix is more appropriate when the size of spatial units is irregular (e.g., in the case of census tracts). Rick Moody s short story Boys is written with a distinct style. There was also a substantial use of the word boys , placing emphasis on the central meaning of the story. The style is thoroughly descriptive and fails to leave any details of the boys lives out. A turbo charger is a very efficient way to gain power. To fully understand the function of this component, lets look at the physics behind it. The Ideal Gas model has much to do in turbochargers. I will explain the theory and components like the compressor, turbine, intercooler, wastegate, and the BOV. Matter is assumed to be composed of an enormous number of very tiny particles which are indestructible. Gas is a state of matter. These tiny particles are separated by relatively large distances , which interact elastically. This large space between the particles make it easy to compress a gas. Which gives low mass to ... This spins a shaft along with another pinwheel called the compressor, which is placed in the intake air s path. This compresses the air on its way into the engine. Normal aspirated engines work to draw in their intake air. As the intake valve opens, the piston s downward movement creates a vacuum which sucks in some air through the intake system. After the work performed by the expansion of the gas in a small space, where the high pressure creates a push against the piston, most of the heat or energy is dumped into the exhaust. This heated air is not in the cylinder long enough to convert all the heat into mechanical energy. We need to get some use out of this other wise wasted energy. What we really want is more power, and for this unfortunately the engine needs to burn more fuel. The turbine fed by the exhaust gases connects to a compressor that compresses intake air into the engine, which builds up pressure in the intake manifold. Now when the intake valve opens, the compressed air is forced into the combustion chamber. This allows more air to fill the chamber. We will need more fuel to match the amount of air in the combustion chamber. On computerized cars, computers take care of this accordingly. What you get is a more explosive force from combustion, and more compression, about 60 percent better ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
