Can Stand Alone As The Sole Development Strategy
can stand alone as the sole development strategy. Verner and Cerpa (1997) observed a
relationship between the size of a department and the preference to utilize a prototype. They also
discovered many of the aspects of a waterfall approach that made it widely used still hold true.
Developer communication and project control have long been seen as positive characteristics of
the waterfall approach. The increased control is the result of the rigid, phased structure that
defines a waterfall development plan. A drawback to this development strategy is the lack of
feedback that we see in the scrum or agile method. This lack of feedback makes having a complete
requirements essential, the lack of which can mean an unsuccessful or scrapped project.... Show

These iterations typically last one to four weeks and can almost be seen as small projects with
actual deliverables (Sindhgatta, Narendra Sengupta, 2010). Sindhgatta, Narendra and Sengupta
(2010) embarked on a case study based on the Scrum agile methodology. Two key roles are the
ScrumMaster and product owner. The ScrumMaster is responsible for helping the development
team use the Scrum framework and the product owner is the liaison between the development team
and the business or end users (Sindhgatta, Narendra Sengupta, 2010). At the end of each sprint,
code is delivered and tested, and feedback is looped back into the model. This is in stark contrast to
the waterfall method and facilitates the likelihood of constant change in the agile model
(Sindhgatta, Narendra Sengupta, 2010). As a project evolves, members of the development team
and the business may get a better understanding of the requirements which can lead to changes in
code that may have already been created as part of earlier sprints (Sindhgatta, Narendra Sengupta,
2010). This concept of project evolution with changing requirements needs to be allocated into the
project schedule as extra time for recoding and retesting (Sindhgatta, Narendra Sengupta, 2010).
This extra time is not something that is built into a waterfall model because the requirements
should be a static entity and rework should not be an option

Changes in Art History with Emphasis on the Mid-Twentieth...
Changes in Art History with Emphasis on the Mid Twentieth Century
Art during the mid twentieth century contained some of the most important changes art history.
These explosive times were counter balanced with explosive popular culture.
More historical events, abrupt changes, and turbulence occurred from the end of World War II until
the height of the Vietnam War than in any time period. Before this time, styles of art had lasted
generations. In the 1960 s numerous important art movements were happening at the same time.
There were variations on variations, movements inside of other movements. Therefore, because of
the amount of independent and integrated pieces of movements and styles, a lot can be missed in a

For the most part, abstract expressionism attracted the American public with its simple methods
and spontaneous appearance and more so because it was an entirely American art movement. With
most of Europe at war and in recovery during the 1940 s, Americans were left with the principal
responsibility of developing art. Abstract expressionism was, therefore, the first movement to
originate in the United States. During the war in the times of chaos that existed in the world,
America met the challenge of being the leader in art and developing their own movement which
would span the 1940 s and the 1950 s.
One of the most important artists in abstract expressionism was Jackson Pollack (see appendix
A). Pollack s work runs throughout the span of the movement. The famous method of action
painting which Pollack developed was much like the times he, and the other artists who practiced
this method, lived in. While there appears to be chaos in the erratic and loose placement of paint
and strokes, there is still a great sense of the pieces being defined and controlled . The abstract
expressionists thought of their paintings as living things. In Jackson Pollack s My Painting , from
1947, he says, The source of my painting is the unconscious . The world around Pollack and all
world citizens at this point was chaotic communism was running rampant, war had ripped

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Appraisal
Archives are well documented extensive records or collected data of historical documents
which are used as tools for critical analysis. Appraisal on the other hand is the act of estimating
or judging the nature or value of something. Essentially, taking into account the definitions,
archival appraisal is looking at all the available dimensions and variables of a subject, keeping in
mind its pros and cons, its advantages and disadvantages and at the same time assessing the
strengths and weaknesses. It is critically analysing the available literature. The ulterior motive so
to speak is to preserve the documents by adding value, keeping in mind the various biases and
results of other s studies, in order to extend the life of the archived documents. The concept of
appraisal highlights the method of assessing the documents. The appraisal should be devoid of
any sort of partiality. It should not favour any type of user. The appraisal is not supposed to be
objective, not subjected to any sort of personal beliefs or opinions, nor shall it be based on any
influenced notion.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The archival theory varies from the archival methodology in terms of their usage. Archival theory
suggests what archival material is whereas archival methodology helps us figuratively decide how
to treat the archival documents. When value is attributed to such archival records or documented
data), it should be retained in their original form. The reason for preserving records and
documented data in their original form can be explained by the fact that when such documents have
been attributed value, they are archivally best accepted in their original form only. Therefore, value
of archival documents does not stand relative. However, the concept of attributing value to the
archival documents is relative since the opinions may vary from one archivist to another, from one
generation to

The Handsomest Drowned Man In The World Essay
Life, a series of transformations. Each small shift building off of one another, perpetually propelling
the cyclical existence that is nature. Some manifest as small changes, summer to fall, ice to water;
others a grand metamorphosis. Humans the center of this cycle, find themselves changing every
day, biologically, developmentally, ideologically, etcetera. Gabriel Garcia Marquez s The
Handsomest Drowned Man In The World, and Carson McCuller s Sucker are both excellent
examples of short stories that, despite having undeniably different plots, feature the overarching
theme of transformation: the propellant through life. Transitions come in many forms, physical
evolutions being the most obvious. Both authors handle this element towards... Show more content

It is seen in Marquez s literately work when the preparations are made for the Drowned mans
funeral. Villagers care for this drowned man like no other, orchestrating a grandiose funeral
bringing people from neighboring villages, and decorating him with charms and tailored
clothing. They select people to act as his family in the funeral and then they release the
Drowned man back into the water, without an anchor so that he could come back if he wished
and whenever he wished (Marquez). This all ostensibly unusual for a funeral in this area,
especially for the funeral of a drowned stranger. Villagers great this filthy piece of cold meat with
a warmth greater than that for a fallen kinsman. Change in actions is also evident in McCuller s
text when discussing the changes seen in sucker after Pete yells at him. Sucker begins spending
time with friends, inviting people over to the house, taking up more of the bed, acting tough, and
avoiding conversation with Pete who says I don t even want to call him sucker anymore
(McCuller). Sucker s actions have become apparently contradictory to the past, to the point where
Pete doesn t even find it appropriate to use his previous name. Then similar to Garcia s story, the
change in practice is emblematic of other change found around the story, specifically more rooted
mental change. Transformation of the psyche, whether entirely or compartmentally, would

Searching for His Identity in Novel, The Invisible Man by...
Unlike a drop of water which loses its identity when it joins the ocean, man does not lose his
being in the society in which he lives. (B. R. Ambedkar). Ralph Waldo Ellison was born on March
1, 1914, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and named after journalist and poet Ralph Waldo Emerson.
In his the novel, Invisible Man, the main character carries around a briefcase throughout the
entire story. All of the possessions that he carries in that briefcase are reminders that he kept
from experiences. If the Negro, or any other writer, is going to do what is expected of him, he s
lost the battle before he takes the field. I suspect that all the agony that goes into writing is borne
precisely because the writer longs for acceptance but it must be acceptance on his own terms.
Ralph Ellison. The period of the novel takes place around The Great Depression the worst economic
crisis in the country s history, which left a permanent scar on American society and culture, causing
millions of people to suffer and experience joblessness, and homelessness, for nearly a decade.
With so many hardships facing people in this time they all wanted the same thing, which was to
get a job and get back all they had lost. This led people to change whom they were and gain new
identities to fit the new society. Throughout the novel, the Invisible Man is searching for his
identity. At the start of Ralph Ellison s novel, we are introduced to a self proclaimed invisible man.

Film Noir Analysis
With its tone and specific style, Film Noir has become one of the prominent elements that helped
shape the American cinema. Within film noir, drama, romance, thriller, and crime are the main
genres that can be seen in noir films. From all this amalgamation of genres, the topic of whether
film noir is a genre or not does seem interesting, but it is particularly the themes and the style that
seems to generate this conversation. Film noiritself can be seen as more of a film movement than a
genre.
Paul Schrader mentions how it presents a specific period of film history, portraying the world of
dark, slick city streets, crime, and corruption. If this were to be about genres, this description would

of Robert Siodmak s 1946 film The Killers places two hitmen in a diner with a customer and two
workers, and the intensity ensues right when the hitmen warn them of their violence, until Swede

The Killers presents it as a more dangerous place. The movie does not start straight from the diner,
but the outdoor area just right outside the diner, and that establishes the tone and the state of that
part of town, with obscure lights, silhouettes of the hitmen, night setting, and fog. Even in such a

intimidation and tension from the rest of the characters and also the audience, especially when one
of the hitmen hides behind the window and sticks his gun out, just in case Swede enters. The
imagery of places and characters thus reminds the viewers that the outward appearances are not

No Child Left Behind Standardization
The large change for standardization began with the implementation of the No Child Left Behind
Act (NCLB) in 2001. According to professors of education Delilah David, Ingrid Haynes, Bernnell
M. Peltier Glaze, Summer Pannell, and head of Texas Marshall County school district, Carrie
Skelton, the NCLB was responsible for a number of undesirable consequences in school
administration. Districts became responsible for testscores from individual schools, creating
pressures among administrative officials to perform well. The act also made it easier for the federal
government to become more involved in education, primarily in its finances. Dr. Martin Wasserburg
conducted an assessment of lower income schools in an urban area and found that t... Show more

The increase of standardization in education in the years following the NCLB s implementation
brought more undesirable consequences, one of them being the pressure placed on teachers to
perform well. More now than ever, teachers are accountable for the test scores and performances
given by individual students (Wiliam, Dylan). In fact, the main purpose of standardized testing is
not to assess the contextual knowledge of students, but rather to act as an assessment of teacher
performance and quality. Teachers are held more accountable for the scores of their students than
the students themselves are, despite the proven lack of control that teachers have over test scores.
This particular facet of the American education system sets us apart other developing countries,
where students are held as equally accountable to their scores as teachers are. According to Dylan
Wiliam, two thirds of the reasoning behind test scores can be traced back to socioeconomic factors,
further showing that teachers have a small influence in a student s test score, and that they should
not be assessed based on them alone.

The Longxing Monastery Of China
The Longxing Monastery is situated in modern Hebei province in the north of China. Previously
named the Longcang Temple in old Chinese, the original building sight was first laid in 586 AD.,
and remains one of the most well preserved large scale ancient Buddhist temples in China.
Throughout its long history, The Longxing Monastery has been a location of pilgrimage for a
number of Chinese Emperors who famously left offerings to the Buddha statues. Today, the temple
houses a number of important historical relics such as the Longcang si stele, which dates to the
monastery s foundation and frescos of the bodhisattva Guanyin, and the later constructed Moni Hall
which acts as the centrepiece in the entirety of the Longxing Monastery, with an emphasis on light
and knowledge. The Moni Hall in particular, represents Manichaeism, an independent gnostic
religion that rose to prominence in the period of the Tang Dynasty618 907 AD. Stemming from the
Chinese MГіnГjiГ o (ж‘©е°јж•™) meaning bright religion, Chinese Manichaeism is a form of

The Moni Hall has associations with both Buddhism and Chinese Manichaesm which was first

Relation Between Sarcopenia And Functional Disabilities...
Relation between sarcopenia and functional disabilities and increase risk of falls
Several cross sectional, observational studies have related sarcopenia to decline of functional status,
such as mobility performance, self reported functional limitations, and disability, it is well
established that the aging process itself is associated with numerous changes in the human body.
One of the most significant age related anatomical changes is that which happens to the skeletal
muscle mass (Visser and Schaap, 2011).
Sarcopenia is used to indicate progressive reduction in muscle mass, muscle strength and function
that affect older people (Pathy et al., 2006).
Sarcopenia results in unfavorable and detrimental effects on an older person s physical function.
Muscle mass decrease is probably the single most frequent cause of late life disability among older
people. It is directly responsible for functional impairment with loss of strength, and increased
likelihood of falls and fractures, as muscles account for 60% of the body protein stores, the
reduction in lean body mass has other health effects independent of its functional consequences
(Rolland et al., 2008).
A number of physiological functions that take place within the muscle tissues have an essential role
in human metabolism. For example, muscles are important body protein reserves and energy that
can be used in extreme conditions such as stress or malnutrition; amino acids can be mobilized
during acute infections and are

Culture And Sensitivity Of Bacteria
Culture and Sensitivity If your patient has an infection of any kind it s critical to know which
antibiotics will be effective against the particular pathogen or disease causing agent. This means
that the species and strain of bacteria, fungus, or other pathogen must be identified and he drugs
that will be the most effective at clearing up the infection must be determined. The only way this
can be done is by running a culture and sensitivity test. Just keep in mind that there are many
different types of culture medias and hundreds of different sensitivity discs that correlate to
different drugs. A negative test on one of these media plates does not meant that there is nothing
there. Which is why a lot of clinics, like our own, run them in house and also send them to a lab
such as Idexx to have them run a more complete test there. A culture is a specific test to find and
identify organisms such as bacteriaor fungus, that can cause an infection. A sensitivity test is a
specific test that checks the results of a culture to see what kind of medicine, commonly
antibiotics, that will work best to treat those organisms. A culture is made when a sample is
added to a substance, or Media that promotes the growth of fungus, bacteria, or whatever it is you
are looking for. There are different types of media for different types of tests, but the most
common type of plate is called an AGAR plate, which is made up of a nutrient substance gel derived

Diplomacy As A Communication Process Of International...
In the field of International relations, one of the most important instruments is referred to as
Diplomacy. Diplomacy according to various scholars is extremely important in the process of
implementing a country s foreign policy and its various objectives in the international community.
Some scholars describe diplomacyas a communication process between international actors that
seek through negotiation to resolve certain issues and also to push their foreign policyobjectives.
Research states that the act of conducting negotiations between two people or two nations at a large
scope is essential to the upkeep of international affairs. Without diplomacy, some scholars state that
much of the world s affairs would be abolished. Institutions like international organizations would
not be possible, and above all the world would be at a constant state of war. Scholars of
international relationsstate that it is due to diplomacy that the majority of states exist in harmony.
Diplomacy is split into two types of diplomacy, which are referred to as Traditional Diplomacy
and New Diplomacy. Traditional Diplomacy refers to the diplomatic process only being conducted
by Monarchs (kings and queens) and was seen as a process of pushing their own individual gains
and was normally conducted in secret. New Diplomacy called for the diplomatic process to be more
open, it involved government and non government actors, unlike in traditional diplomacy which

Social Class Reflection
When There Is a Direction to Choose, Choose Forward
Middle school is where it all started. Just mentioning the word middle school can dig up popular
and gooey or humiliating and traumatic memories. Seven long hours before my very first day, I
didn t have a sliver of a chance of falling into any level of sleep. My thoughts were in a frazzle
with anticipation, weighing heavy to remember my seven class schedule, hoping I can run fast
enough from my class in the far north corner up the stairs and down a very long hallway to the
south dwelling class. Trying to keep my combination straight, I sounded like a likely candidate
for a psych ward........right 32, left 16, right 40.......right 32, left 16, right 40 over and over and
over. School wasn t about learning, it was about being 8 steps ahead in case a popular competition
moved in or how to patch the ding in my social class status. We are brought into this world with
countless opportunities of being whoever we want.
Our juvenile years are full of mistakes and sifting through our core beliefs to sculpt out who that
is. I learned a hard lesson that if you don t have the grades it doesn t matter how good you would
have been at cheerleading. You were easily replaceable. I fell off the horse and instead of getting
back up again....I chose to be afraid of the horse. Friend circles were closing and I didn t acquire
the right credentials to join the ones my mom would encourage. I kept my eyes and ears open in

How are creatives perceived in your company? What is the nature of the creative type, and how
can they best be managed for the purposes of achieving Innovation? First, let s describe what
creatives are like. Highly charged creative types may act out or resist when they feel restricted by
the confinement of corporate culture. Some creatives may prefer to work alone, in the refuge of
their own private work space until they emerge with an Aha! moment or solution to a vexing

The Importance Of Miranda Warnings
Juveniles, particularly younger juveniles, are unable to comprehend the Miranda warning, and, by
extension, exercise their Miranda rights, for biological reasons, specifically their developmental
immaturity. According to Rogers et al. s study (Rogers, Blackwood, Fidducia, Steadham, Drogin,
Rogstad 2012), Miranda warnings are inherently incomprehensible to juveniles because they
demand an advanced level of reading comprehension most often not yet attained by the juveniles.
The study consolidated a sum of 293 juvenile Miranda warnings issued in 238 counties in 38 states
and used the Flesch Kincaid, a commonly accepted estimate of grade level used in other Miranda
related research and that corresponds with standardized reading tests, to gauge grade level
estimates. Rogers et al. found that 2.2% of Miranda waivers were written at a college graduate
level, 5.2% necessitated some college preparation, and 52.1% of Miranda warnings necessitated at
least an eighth grade education, which poses a significant threat to particularly underserved preteen
suspects. Only 7.3% of juvenile warnings were marked as easily comprehensible or at below a fifth
grade education level, which would optimize juvenile comprehension. It s significant to note that
juveniles cannot then intelligently waive their Miranda rights if the language exceeds their reading
comprehension level. Grisso et al. demonstrate this understanding of juveniles developmental
immaturity in their comprehensive study concerning

Much of this comes from outside sources, knowing the government is weak and easily bought.
The government itself is easily bought by whoever can provide the most money, thus leading to a

Memory Encoding Storage And Retrieval
There are three different basic processes of memory: encoding, storage, and retrieval. Memory is
the process by which we recollect prior experiences, information, and skills learned in the past. This
lab focuses on altering the retrieval stage. The retrieval stage consists of returning and locating
memorythat is stored and bringing it to conscious thought. To be able to retrieve this information,
one must know knowledge of proper procedures. There is certain information in our memory that
is so familiar to us that it can be very difficult to forget. The method of retrieval depends on how a
person encodes it from the start. (Rathus, 2010).

Rhetorical Analysis Of John Berger s Ways Of Seeing
Rhetorical Analysis Essay
In John Berger s essay Ways of Seeing, he shares his view on how he feels art is seen. Mr. Berger
explores how the views of people are original and how art is seen very differently. By comparing
certain photographs, he goes on to let his Audience, which is represented as the academic,
witness for themselves how art may come across as something specific and it can mean
something completely different depending on who is studying the art. The author goes into
details of why images were first used, how we used to analyze art vs how we do today, and the
rarity of arts. He is able to effectively pass on his message by using the strategies of Rhetoric, which
include Logos, Pathos, and Ethos.
Mr. Berger uses Pathos close to the beginning of his essay to get the attention of his audience. To
get an emotion started that would make anyone want to know and read further. Where he writes
In this respect, images are more precise and richer than literature. (121) For anyone who may be
passionate about literature may disagree, it would cause an emotion. An emotion that would cause
someone to want a better understanding. He is using this strategy to get the audience interested,
engaged, and to be able to have an emotional tie to the subject. He explains how images have
been around to make up for what was absent. Words are words and mean what we read from them.
Anyone can read a book explaining how life was in the past, and an image can give a different story.

Media s Influence On The Socialization Of A Child
As media technology now offers various ways to access TV contents, such as on the Internet,
cell phones and iPad, it leads children to spend more time watching animations and movies.
According to a Kaiser family foundation study, 8 10 year old children expose average 7 hours 51
minutes to media in a typical day. 11 14 year old children and 15 18 year old children spend
average 11 hours in a day. (Victoria et al.) Children thoroughly perceive and accept the concepts
from media, so it is the powerful medium and cramming education method that control
consciousness and create the imitation. Animations and movies, as the most accessible media,
significantly have an effect on the process of socialization of children to form personality traits and
the concept of the gender.
Gender has been portraying stereotypically for a long period in the history of media. Media plays a
very vital role in the socialization of a child or even adult, through different the storyline, characters
and dramatization of different genders through different theme and portrayals. Traditionally, media
have broadened the representation of male. In the presence of male and female characters in
animated cartoons, 67.4% characters were male and only 32.6% were female. It showed that male
characters out numbered female characters in the animated cartoons broadcasted from the
worldwide popular channel, Cartoon Network.(Ahmed, Shumaila, and Juliana A. Wahab) Disney s

A Good Day Gone Bad
Another good day gone bad I slowly pressed my foot down on the accelerator as I approached the
passing lane. I was tired of following the old man in his beat up, red station wagon at 25 miles
per hour. I needed to get to school! I was right behind him when I topped the little hill and
entered the passing zone. Such a relief. That s when I saw it... The warm September Monday
morning was just what I needed to refresh my mind. I had been stressed about schoolwork and
was trying to keep up with all of my activities. The nice sunny, warm morning made everything
seem right and so calming. I started the day at 7:00 a.m., when I was suddenly awakened by my
bursting with sound alarm clock. I obviously hit on it until I found the snooze button and rolled
back over to catch a few more minutes of sleep. Which is only nine more minutes of sleep. I then
remembered I needed to shower and shave before I went to school, so I had to get up and get on
with my day. I had my usual breakfast, which consisted of a bowl of cereal and a glass of orange
juice sometimes I just drank water. I was running a little late, but I still had plenty of time to
make it to school. I went to brush my teeth, but I had to wait for my little sister to get out of the
bathroom, which made me even later. I grabbed my bags, after I finished brushing my teeth, and
headed out the door. I got into my brand new Bentley which I had bought for myself after working
for years, but I still had debt, and remembered I

Blue Clue Essay
Blue s Clues specifically set out to fix these problems. Cognitive development was vital, but they
wanted to do it in a way that didn t sacrifice fun or comprehension. First, they addressed the issue
of comprehension. As long as things happened logically, as long as kids could make a connection,
it didn t matter the length of the segments. At the time a dominant theory in developmental theory,
Piaget s work meant that easily distractible children couldn t handle large jumbles of video or
longer segments. Sesame Street supported the first part of this, by showing children couldn t
understand things out of order. But Blue s Clues challenged the second part, and in doing so
changed the idea of the length of child s attention span (Jaffe). This... Show more content on

Examining this show says something about its audience, and the culture their audience was part
of. Obviously, one show s audience can t represent an entire culture. As Blue s Clues was part of
a channel that had to be paid separately for, as opposed to Sesame Street which was on basic
cable, it couldn t reach all audiences. Perhaps it can t speak for those in lower economic classes,
or those who don t support the use of television for their children. But it can say a lot for the
direction the education of children was going. Blue s Clues showed that things were changing.
America was taking the education of their children seriously, looking for new and inventive ways
for them to grow and develop within their own homes. It also showed that television no longer
ended when the show was turned off. While Sesame Street showed that commercial tie ins could
be a success with its massively popular Tickle Me Elmo in 1996 (Jaffe), Blue s Clues recognized
that their positive impact on learning and development wasn t just limited to a thirty minute period.
Examples of that include educational computer games, or clothing with specially designed buttons
to encourage dressing independence ( Me and You ). In the broadest sense, Blue s Clues understood
that a child s development was a dynamic and difficult process. They understood that early

Nitrogen Cycle Lab
For the Nitrogen Cycle Lab, I, along with four other classmates, designed and created a self
sustaining nitrogen cycle. One factor that helped us create a successful self sustaining nitrogen
cycle was we elevated each tank by placing foam blocks under them. This increased the speed of
the water flow. Another good factor we included was we used tape to help loop the tubes to
connect two tanks together. The tape also prevented any tubes from shooting water upwards and
out of the tank. Although our water flow was successful in the end, we had multiple errors before
we achieved a self sustaining nitrogen cycle. One major issue that we came across was our holes
were bigger than our tubes. This created several different leaks which caused the water

Engine Light Means
What your Engine Light Means
When you re maintaining your car, it s important that you know what your dashboard lights are
telling you. If you see a blinking sign, make sure you stop your car and check it immediately to
avoid experiencing any issues while you re driving. Here are some signs you can familiarize
yourself with and what they mean.
Always clean up your interior with the KevianClean Inerior Defense so that you can easily
determine which light is giving you a warning sign.
1.Check Engine Light All new models are equipped with the OBD II or On Board Diagnostics 2.

Service Engine Light Once this blinks on your dashboard, it is an indicator that you are scheduled
to have a maintenance interval. This light will turn on as soon as you start the engine of your car
and turn it off during inspection. If it stays for about 10 seconds, it means you exceeded a service
interval.
3.Brake Warning Light This is intended to alert you that your braking system is faulty. This can be
due to several reasons. It may indicate that your handbrake is on which will also give off a smell
of burning brake dust. Another warning is that the fluid in the master cylinder is low.
For ABS equipped vehicles, you may have a second brake warning light. It could be that there is a
dirt in the sensor or it if the problem is more complicated, you may need to replace the entire ABS
unit.
4.Electrical Fault Light This indicator appears with an image of a battery. Once you start your
engine and the light stays on, it means that your electrical charge is not functioning properly. Once
you plug it in with a charger you can use it indefinitely while as soon as you remove it from the
charger, provides a limited amount of time until it dies

Genome Wide Association Mapping
Advances in genotyping technology, reduction in cost of next generation sequencing has led to a
rapid increase of molecular markers for genomics studies (Bradbury, Zhang, et al., 2007,
Chaudhary, Patil, et al., 2015). The use of association analysis to study complex traits in plants is
now a viable approach. TASSEL program (Trait Analysis by aSSociations, Evolution and Linkage)
(Bradbury, Zhang, et al., 2007) is software used to conduct association analysis. TASSEL accounts
for false positives that arise from population and family structure by structured association
(Bradbury, Zhang, et al., 2007).
For a genome wide association study the false positive rates of the general linear model (GLM),
the mixed linear model (MLM), and the compressed MLM will be compared to determine the best
model to use and subsequently run on TASSEL program (Bradbury, Zhang, et al., 2007).

The Prevelence of Corruption in Various Facets of Today s...
Corruption refers to the use of public goods or power for the benefit of an individual or a group of
people. Referring to what the definition says, a corruption situation could occur in an organization
that is actively handling money, and the people who are responsible of managing it within the
institution take advantage of it for personal purposes. Corruptionis a problem that occurs worldwide
but it is more common in some countries than in others. It is more likely to happen in poorer
countries.

However, in the administration department there are some people whose interests go beyond the
interest of the organization and want to make a profit from the money they receive. There are three
possible ways of corruption within this department. First of all, the corrupt people can take the
money away directly from the budget of the organization. However, they could get caught easily in
this situation because when the others departments take a look at the funds statement, they will
realize that some money is missing.
Secondly, they could negotiate with some of the companies that offer services to the organization.
For example, if there is an event and a certain company is supposed to rent the audio system,
which cost $3000 there could be a negotiation between the corrupt people in our organization and
the people from the company which offers the service so they inflate the cost from $3000 to $6000
and then divide the surplus of $3000 in exact parts between the two parties.
Besides, the third way of corruption could arise in the creation of companies by the members of
the administration department. In this case they will be the owners of the companies that offer
services to the organization. The problem that could happen here is that they are going to have the
power to control the bills so if certain service cost $1000 in the market, they can easily charge the
same service for more money. Since they handle

Urinary Tract Infections ( Cautis )
Background and Significance
Catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) are caused by transmission of bacteria to the
urinary tract via the urinary catheter during catheter insertion, via the catheter lumen, or by
handling of the catheter drainage bag (Mori, 2014). Urinary tract infections (UTIs) account for
about 35% of hospital acquired infections (HAIs) and about 80% of the UTIs are related to the
presence of indwelling urinary catheter (IUC). CAUTIs are a significant problem affecting the
patients as well as the health care system as they are linked with increased morbidity and mortality,
increased health care expenses, and extended hospitalization (Gould, 2015).
CAUTIs can result to patient s complications such urethritis, urethral strictures, bloody urine,
bladder obstruction and sepsis. In addition, the catheter drainage bag may be a reservoir of
pathogens that can result to more critical HAIs (Apostolopoulou, 2015). Approximately 13,000
deaths are associated with UTIs every year. A total health care cost of approximately $0.4 $0.5
billion is spent for CAUTI incidences and it s complications in the United States annually. The
length of hospital stay related to CAUTIs extends from two to four days (Gould, 2015).
As of October 1st, 2008, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) began
withholding reimbursement to hospitals for treatment of HAIs including the CAUTIs. The duration
of the catheter use has been identified as a major risk factor for

Summary Of The Diary Of Syrne
TITLE The poem, The Diary of Aleppo, structured as a sonata, shows the effects of the Syrian
Civil War on three people who live in Aleppo as seen by their diary entries. Aleppo is Syria s
largest city and commercial capital. However, because of the war, it is filled with destruction and
is divided between government and rebel forces. I chose the Syrian Civil Warfor this project because
throughout all my research this topic seemed the most interesting. In addition, the stanzas in this
poem are meant to be diaryentries because during war it is very difficult for people to speak
about the tragedy they are going through. However, writing in a diary allows one to fully record
their experiences without being persecuted and expresses their feelings. INTRODUCTION The
introduction showcases imagery to encapsulate the effects of war. The second line of the poem
describes movement as slow, this shows that war moves as if it will never end making victims
feel trapped in agony and distress. In addition, references to weaponry such as bombs and rifles
are displayed, meaning that war results in death and destruction. These forces led to grief and
despair as shown by the tears and screaming of citizens. EXPOSITION The exposition introduces
the three main components of the poem. Each character does not have a name but rather are labeled
as what they classify: a wife, child, and refugee. These classifications show that war strips people of
their identity, putting them

Disturb The Universe In The Chocolate War

The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier. Like Jerry, many others have disturbed the universe.
Disturbing the universe can occur in many forms as well. Adolf Hitler, like Jerry, is a prime

disturbing the universe through revolting, never giving up, and not going down without a fight.

Key Determinant Of A Parent Child Language
Background to the study
CRUCIAL DETERMINANT of a child s progress in language is the quality of the parent child
language interaction during the first three years (Hart
Risley 1995). Maternal behaviours such as maternal responsivity, contingency and stimulating
interactions have been found to be predictive of subsequent language performance of the child.
Optimal parenting behaviour is reciprocal, supports the child s interests and recognises the child s
need for autonomy (Landry et al., 1997; Murray
Hornbaker, 1997). Cognitive ability level in early childhood has been found to be associated with
stimulating and contingent parentinfant interactions (Olson, Bates Kaskie,
1991; Sylva et al., 2011). Children s preschool language performance can be predicted from the
quality of maternal involvement (Olson, Bates Bayles, 1984).
Maternal responsivity the way in which the mother provides for, interacts or responds to their child
creates an environment which has an impact on the language development of their child (Brady,
Warren Sterling,
2009; Hirsh Pasek Burchinal, 2006; Masur,
Flynn Eichorst, 2005). A large UK cohort study examined maternal responses rated at
12 months during an observed motherinfant interaction and found that positive maternal responses
and infant development were associated at 18 months (Pearson et al.,

Aaron Sorkin s A Few Good Men
In Aaron Sorkin s play A Few Good Men, Dawson s reasoning was valid because he was

himself accountable for the decisions he made and stood behind them firmly. Being able to
follow an order in the military is one of the most important aspects of being a solider. Military
discipline and effectiveness is built on obedience, and recruits are taught to obey immediately
and without question. Throughout A Few Good Men, Dawson contested that he was just
following the orders he was given, We did nothing wrong, sir. We did our job. If it has

Essay on The Decision to Become a Suicide Bomber

Could it be this bitterness towards American culture that motivates a suicide bomber to fulfill his
jihadist destiny? Although Qutb certainly was open about his dislike of America, it seems far more
likely that modern jihadists have an ulterior motive that involves America s foreign policy rather
than its culture. An interesting revelation is made concerning jihadist motivation by John Farmer
in his book, The Ground Truth. Farmer notes that Osama bin Laden s initial concerns were focused
in the Middle East. The continual involvement by the United States in Middle Eastern affairs is
what seems to have put him over the edge. Farmer quotes a specific interview given by bin Laden
that clearly outlines the source of his hatred, America continues to claim that it is upholding the

counterpart Khalid Sheikh Mohammed who actually lived in America at one point. Interestingly,
his time spent in America doesn t seem to be the driving factor behind his feelings. Farmer, quoting

Peace, love, and unity should prevail for people to live with harmony with each other and unless
these three factors take course, it would be difficult to consider one another as equal partners in the
society. It is very important to note that every person was created differently and therefore, have
their own unique features and characteristics and it would be wrong to discriminate against one
another on any grounds. However, there are certain human qualities such as homosexuality and
lesbianism that are highly controversial in the society today; various factions of people present
their views on the issue. There are those who oppose them by terming them as immoral and there
are those support them by terming them as human rights (Blackwell, Ricks Dziegielewski, 2004).
One person who stands out openly to call for homosexuals rights is the former president s wife,
Hillary Clinton, who made her opinion on this issue public at Geneva where she attended a
meeting to celebrate Human Rights Day. In a society dominated by men, Hillary Clinton s speech
is bold and radical. Clinton, a white, heterosexual woman, went against societal norms by
advocating for the rights of homosexuals who are abused solely because of their sexual orientation.

Championship Game Essay
The Championship Game
It took place at the baseball field. Two teams are in the championship. Those teams are the
Indians, and the Mudcats. Both teams came flying through the playoffs. It is 2 elimination. The
main players, by main I mean the playmakers on the Indians are Tyler, Trent, and David. The
playmakers on the Mudcats are Tim, Josh, and Jacob. There is a big conflict. It is such big game. It
is SO stressful. Everyone s hands are shaking, but they are ready to play some baseball. Both of our
teams came right up through the playoffs. The Mudcats lost once in the playoffs, but the good
news is for them that it is 2 elimination. It is the Finals. It is the Championship. It is the big deal.
It is the game we have all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next up to bat is Tim. First pitch he hits right to the first baseman for out number 1. Jacob is up
to bat with 1 out. First pitch is a ball but the person on second, Josh, is trying to steal third.
Fortunately the catcher, Trent, threw a good throw, and caught him stealing and got him out.
Jacob is still up to bat, and the next pitch is a line drive to the third baseman, David, but he had
an amazing catch. At the end of the first inning the score is 0 0. So about at the end of the fifth
inning, the score IS STILL 0 0. The bad news is that they only play 6 innings. Someone has to
score. At the start of the 6th inning, the Indians have there number nine batter up which is
Nathan. The first pitch is a strike. He did not swing at it. The next pitch is a strike. It is a swing
and a miss. Next pitch is a strike but it is another miss. That is three strikes and that is one out.
One out and here come the first batter on the batting order, Trent. He hits the first pitch right in
between center field and left field for a double. Next up to bat is David. First pitch is a foul ball.
Next pitch is another foul ball. The count is 0 2. The next pitch is a groundout to the second
baseman. Next up to bat is Tyler. So there is 2 outs and all of the pressure is on. The first 2
pitches are a ball. Next pitch is a strike. The pitch after that is another strike. The count is 2 2. Next

The First Impressions Of Elizabeth And Darcy
Adam Yeakley
Mrs. Schroeder
English IV
7 February 2018
First Impressions of Elizabeth and Darcy First impressions in the novel Pride and Prejudice play a
crucial role. Whether they be initially correct then changed because of the views of others like Jane
Bennet s first impression of Charles Bingley. Or whether they be initially very wrong then slowly
changed throughout the novel into a more accurate interpretation of the character. They almost
provide the basis for which the story is structured upon. The novel progresses as the reader s (and
the characters) views of each character change. This is most evident in the relationship between
Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy. Elizabeth Bennet being a pseudo main character although

Mr. Bennet denies but he secretly goes without telling anyone. The Bennetts are then invited to a
ball at the Bingleys mansion. This being where the Bennett sisters and their primary love
interests will first meet. At this ball though things don t go exactly as planned in regards to
Elizabeth. Charles Bingley instructs Fitzwilliam Darcy to ask Elizabeth to dance. In response
Fitzwilliam calls Elizabeth tolerable and says that Jane is the only beautiful girl at the ball. This
is overheard by Elizabeth and sparks her first impression of Fitzwilliam. Which at this point she
sees him as a rude, arrogant, and proud member of the Upper class who doesn t like to dance
with females of a lower social status. Although initially Elizabeth does find Fitzwilliam to be tall
and handsome. This leads Elizabeth to have a dislike of Fitzwilliam which then will make way
for her current attitude towards him during this point in the novel. Throughout a series of events
Darcy s idea of Elizabeth changes into the polar opposite of his idea of her at the beginning of the
novel. Elizabeth s idea of Darcy changes much more slowly throughout the novel at one point

Essay on Ritalin, Helpful and Harmful
Ritalin Helpful and Harmful
When 20/20 and Oprah did segments about ADD on television, many parents felt that they finally
knew what was wrong with their kids. They rushed to the doctor s office to find out how they
could fix the problem. Most soon discovered a drug called Ritalin. It sounded simple. All they had
to do was give their rambunctious or hyperactive child a pill three or four times a day, and
magically he or she would be a perfect little angel. Most were so happy to find a cure that they did
not stop to contemplate other methods of treatment, possible side effects, or get a second opinion.
Dr. Sharon Collins believes this is because, It takes time for parents and teachers to talk to kids. It

Many experts feel physicians should be more aware of the side effects of the drug and look to
alternate solutions before prescribing Ritalin. Some experts also believe that Ritalin should be
only part of the treatment for patients with ADD or ADHD. The drug, which now saturates the
market, produces the same sensations as the narcotic speed if someone who is not ADD or
ADHD takes it. Because of its narcotic nature, Ritalin is considered by law to be a controlled
substance, and its dosage and intake must be carefully monitored. Parents see Ritalin as a quick fix
and urge doctors to prescribe it for their children, thus leading to premature or improper diagnoses,
more people having adverse side effects to the drug, and an increased availability of the drug for
non medicinal purposes.
Many doctors do not take the time to perform a complete evaluation of the patient who is
suspected to have ADD or ADHD. They listen to the teacher or parent and assume because the
child has a short attention span or is very hyperactive that the child must have ADD. The doctors
do not take time to examine other possibilities for the child s behavior such as learning disabilities,
depression, or anxiety disorders that look like ADHD, but do not need Ritalin (Hancock 55).
This need to find a quick fix has

West Memphis Three Men Research Paper
Murder begins where self defense ends. This quote from Georg Buchner can be used to describe
the tragic deaths of three little boys who were rendered defense less against their attackers. On
May 5, 1993 in West Memphis, Arkansas, three young second grade boys, by the names of
Christopher Byers, Steven Branch, and Michael Moore, were brutally murdered after being beaten
and hogtied by their own shoelaces. A year later, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie
Misskelley were convicted and sent to prison for this heinous crime. Even though the three men
were convicted for the crime, there is still great controversy as to who actually killed the three boys.
Throughout all this controversy, evidence, testimony, confessions, and more point towards the three
men known as the West Memphis Three , to be the real killers.
In the case of the three murdered eight year olds, West Memphis police department s investigative
work led to a numbered list of suspects. Some of the suspects were quickly ruled out while others
took a little more investigative work. In the end, the list of suspects was shortened until all who
remained were Christopher Morgan, Mr. Bojangles, John Mark Byers, Terry Hobbs, and the... Show

police. Christopher testified that he was kept locked up even though he was not in the police s
custody, he was never read his rights, and he spent seventeen hours in interrogation over two
sessions. After approximately thirteen hours of interrogation, Morgan gave a confession that he
might have killed the three boys because he might have blacked out , which was later proven to be
false due to a solid alibi and lack of

Any positive impact that can be made on attrition will have a direct impact on profitability.
Retention/attrition may not be the bane of a particular industry, but a positive impact via proactive
strategies will most assuredly have a significant impact on profitability.
As competition increases, companies will be under pressure to curb costs and stretch every rupee.
In such situations, instead of companies focusing on business at hand and putting people issues on
the back burner, they should focus on retaining high performing employees and keeping them
motivated. The best companies consequently know that in all business climates taking measures to
retain valued employees saves money, preserves margins and leads to better business opportunities.
The business impact of good and bad attrition can be felt in both tangible and intangible ways.
According to few researchers the tangible aspects are: Loss of knowledge capital Delay in
execution of projects/assignments Loss of production Increasing cost of recruitment
On the intangible front it would result in: Impact on employer brand Burden and burnout on
existing employees Internal information and knowledge is being shared outside Existing team also
gets defocused/demotivated for sometime
Organizations should execute top of the line retention policies in the right earnest and

Moral Codes
Morality defines us , human beings, by setting the principle for what is right or wrong. The aura
surrounding morality delineates our values and our ability to make critical decisions. Moral
codes are the values that shape us as unique people and they are values that one stands by.
Without it, we would have outlawed thoughts and order in the world dissipates. Like others,
moral codes play a substantial role in my life and they dictate the decisions I make in everyday
life. Firstly, the idea that purging of one s life is unjust is a tenet that I have a strong stance on.
Despite the real world repercussions such as prison and a death sentence, the reason that I believe
in it is due to the barrage of guilt that I would feel. Whether it be a criminal or a person who I
despise, it doesn t vindicate the action of murder. In the heat of a moment, words will be exchanged
and tempers can spark but it should never reach that extent. Taking alternative means and avoiding
the confrontation should be the way forward although it is a hard to come to terms with it.
Furthermore, coming from a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

being honest can spare you from self condemnation and sleepless nights. Reminisce to a day

Recursive contemplation kicks in and you come to the consensus that you have done wrong and
that you regret your decision. It creates a barrier between the two of you. On a spiritual level,
there is a feeling of disregarding our beliefs and that it is a sinful act. You wouldn t be able to

When Did Basketball Start By James Naismith
Basketball was started by James Naismith in December 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He
invented Basketball because he teached his class. He divided 18 students to two teams and taught
his students the basics of his game. He got the idea from Aztec Indians.
The rules are to dribble the ball, shoot the ball, pass the ball, and play as a team. To dribble the
ball, you cannot travel. If you walk with the ball during the game, the reff s will call it and you will
get a turn over. To shoot the ball, you have to be open so that your opponent won t block you.
There are two groups that are divided into 5 players. Each team has to try and win the game by

The Monkey s Paw And The Keys Of Destiny Analysis
In both stories The Monkey s Paw and The Keys of Destiny they prove that money isn t the
source of happiness. Even though they have the same theme the two authors get this theme across
in two completely different ways. With the story The Monkey s Paw the author uses the death of
Herbert (the son of one of main character) to reveal the theme, while in The Keys of Destiny the
author uses the keys of destiny to get the same effect. The main reason that the themes are
presented differently is because of the craft moves that are being used. For example, in The
Monkey s Paw the author W.W. Jacobs used revealing actions and in The Keys of Destiny the
author Neil Philip uses symbolism.
The main factor in the different ways that the two authors got the theme across was the craft
moves. In The Monkey s Paw W.W. Jacobs uses revealing actions to get the main theme across.
In the story one of Mr. White s friends tried to throw out a mummified paw of a monkey because
he claims it was cursed. Disregarding that it was cursed and can cause consequences if he uses it
he asks for money which he would regret later in the story. W.W Jacobs shows this when he writes,
I wish for two hundred pounds, said the old man distinctly. (1.5) this quote is just the first action of
where he wishes for the money the revealing part comes later when the Whites obtains the money.
The revealing action is when the Whites hear about the death of their son that goes back to their
wish for money,

Edgar Allan Poe The Raven Analysis
The Raven , written by Edgar Allan Poe, is a narrative poem. It was first published in 1845 and
noted for its musicality, stylized language, and supernatural atmosphere. This poem tells the story
of a distressed lover, who is visited by a raven, outlining the man s slow fall into madness. The
lover, often identified as being a student, is mourning the loss of his love, Lenore. The ravensits on
a bust of Pallas. The raven seems to further instigate his sadness with its constant repeating of the
word Nevermore . The poem makes use of a number of mythological, religious, and classical
references. The Raven , is a ballad of 18 six line stanzas, containing emphatic meter and rhymes.
It is an anguishing narrative of a young man, who is bereaved by the death of the woman he
deeply loved. He creates a self destructive meaning for the raven s repetition of the word
Nevermore . He despairs being reunited with his beloved Lenore, in the afterlife. [6,7]
The narrator s state of mind is shown in the first seven stanzas. Overwhelmed with grief, the
narrator tries to conceal his sorrow by reading obscure books. Narrated in first person, the poem
shows the speaker s shift from weary, sorrowful composure to a state of nervous demise as he
recounts his strange experience with the raven. Awakened by a sound, he opens the door, looking
for a visitor; but there s no one. He whispers the name Lenore and closes the door. When the
tapping continues, he opens a window, and acknowledge a raven perched upon a bust of Pallas. [7]
In stanzas 8 to 11, the narrator is captivated by the image of the black bird in his room. After
asking the bird what was his name, he is startled, however, to hear the raven respond, saying,
Nevermore. Although the word apparently has little meaning, the narrator is subdued by the bird s
sad utterance. He assumes that the raven s owner, through his disasters, taught the bird to copy
human speech in order to express his sense of hopelessness. [7]
In stanzas 12 and 13, the narrator sits on a velvet cushion in front of the bird and ponders what the
raven means by repeating this word he has associated with the departed Lenore. Now, the grieving
lover, in anticipation of the raven s maddening repetition of

Graph Theory Concepts and Strategies with Ticket to Ride...
Ticket to Ride is a board game created by Alan R. Moon that has been growing in popularity
since its first release in 2004 by Days of Wonder. The game components include a map with cities
and defined train routes, sets of 45 colored, plastic train car tokens for up to five players,
destination tickets, and colored train cards. The premise of the gameinvolves collecting enough of
the colored train cards to claim or build train routes to connect various major cities in the United
States and southern Canada to earn points as well as completing routes designated on the
destination tickets. The game itself is not only a fun way to spend hours playing but it is also a

There are also multi colored locomotive that are used like wild cards. The colored train cards
are shown in Figure 2. The second part of the set up to deal out five destination tickets (three, if
not playing with the Mega Game expansion) a minimum of three which must be retained. Any
destination tickets not kept by a player are returned to draw pile for later in the game. Note that
some versions of the game remove any discarded tickets from play for the rest of the game. An
example of a destination ticket is shown in Figure 3.
On a player s turn, he/she chooses one of three options: Build a train connecting two adjacent
cities using sets of colored train cards to earn points immediately, draw up to two additional
colored train cards to be used later to build a train, or draw three additional destination tickets
keeping a minimum of one to earn points at the end of the game. Play continues in this fashion for
each player until one player has two or fewer train tokens left and then everyone still has one more
turn.
The points earned from building a train connecting two adjacent cities are based on the length of
the route with the longer routes earning more points per train token. Routes of length one and two
earn only one point per token while a route of length three earns a total of four

The Process of the Western Expansion into South East Asia
The process of the Western Expansion into South East Asia occurred in two phases. These two
phases can be characterized by their unique features, which differentiated them from one another.
Historical records have shown that, the expansion was facilitated by the major Western Imperial
powers, as known as: The United Statesof America, Holland, Britain, and France. In addition,
historical doctrine have shown that, there were certain economic and social factors that facilitated
the occurrence of the differences between their first and the second phase of the expansion into the
South East Asia (Schoppa, pg.23, 2008). This discussion will focus on the differences between the
first and the second phases of the expansion, as well as the factors that facilitated the occurrence of
these differences.
The first phase of Western expansion into South East Asia was when the Western Imperialists
invaded the South East Asia and facilitated a division of the region in relation to territories; this
was compared to their division of Africa into various nations. As Professor Giebel mentioned in his
lecture: The British took complete control of the Indonesian Islands while the French took control
of Indochina (Giebel, 4/23). However, a scenario characterized this period where, the French, the
Dutch and the British took control of the South East Asia region (Schoppa, pg. 29, 2008). On the
other hand, during the second phase of the expansion, the United States of America was involved in
the act

Power Of Context By Malcolm Gladwell Essay
Conventional wisdom has it, that criminals commit crime of their own volition. This belief is based
on the concept that human character exists independently from their environment. Gladwell
challenges conventional wisdom, claiming that the matter is significantly more complex. Gladwell
s theory, Power of Context, basically identifies small details within an environmentand how they can
heavily influence said environment. The Power of Context is extremely enlightening; because it
sheds light on the observed behavior within Johnson s self organizing Manchester and Faludi s
archaic Citadel. Gladwell builds his theory off of the concept of Broken Windows, wherein
relatively minor problems like graffiti... [are] invitations to more serious crimes (Gladwell 152).
These findings challenge the conventional wisdom and draw distinct parallels with Johnson s
Manchester. Johnson sees similar behavior in the self organizing nature of Manchester s
neighborhoods, cities have lives of their own, with neighborhoods clustering into place without any
Robert Moses figure dictating the plan from above (Johnson 198). In other words, the environment
is a complex, living, breathing ecosystem that develops in harmony with its population and vice
versa. Where there is chaos, it breeds chaos. Neighborhoods with crime continue to produce crime
because of environmental variables. In contrast, one could argue that neighborhoods without crime
and strong citizen involvement would,

  • 2. Can Stand Alone As The Sole Development Strategy can stand alone as the sole development strategy. Verner and Cerpa (1997) observed a relationship between the size of a department and the preference to utilize a prototype. They also discovered many of the aspects of a waterfall approach that made it widely used still hold true. Developer communication and project control have long been seen as positive characteristics of the waterfall approach. The increased control is the result of the rigid, phased structure that defines a waterfall development plan. A drawback to this development strategy is the lack of feedback that we see in the scrum or agile method. This lack of feedback makes having a complete requirements essential, the lack of which can mean an unsuccessful or scrapped project.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These iterations typically last one to four weeks and can almost be seen as small projects with actual deliverables (Sindhgatta, Narendra Sengupta, 2010). Sindhgatta, Narendra and Sengupta (2010) embarked on a case study based on the Scrum agile methodology. Two key roles are the ScrumMaster and product owner. The ScrumMaster is responsible for helping the development team use the Scrum framework and the product owner is the liaison between the development team and the business or end users (Sindhgatta, Narendra Sengupta, 2010). At the end of each sprint, code is delivered and tested, and feedback is looped back into the model. This is in stark contrast to the waterfall method and facilitates the likelihood of constant change in the agile model (Sindhgatta, Narendra Sengupta, 2010). As a project evolves, members of the development team and the business may get a better understanding of the requirements which can lead to changes in code that may have already been created as part of earlier sprints (Sindhgatta, Narendra Sengupta, 2010). This concept of project evolution with changing requirements needs to be allocated into the project schedule as extra time for recoding and retesting (Sindhgatta, Narendra Sengupta, 2010). This extra time is not something that is built into a waterfall model because the requirements should be a static entity and rework should not be an option ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Changes in Art History with Emphasis on the Mid-Twentieth... Changes in Art History with Emphasis on the Mid Twentieth Century Art during the mid twentieth century contained some of the most important changes art history. These explosive times were counter balanced with explosive popular culture. More historical events, abrupt changes, and turbulence occurred from the end of World War II until the height of the Vietnam War than in any time period. Before this time, styles of art had lasted generations. In the 1960 s numerous important art movements were happening at the same time. There were variations on variations, movements inside of other movements. Therefore, because of the amount of independent and integrated pieces of movements and styles, a lot can be missed in a short paper. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the most part, abstract expressionism attracted the American public with its simple methods and spontaneous appearance and more so because it was an entirely American art movement. With most of Europe at war and in recovery during the 1940 s, Americans were left with the principal responsibility of developing art. Abstract expressionism was, therefore, the first movement to originate in the United States. During the war in the times of chaos that existed in the world, America met the challenge of being the leader in art and developing their own movement which would span the 1940 s and the 1950 s. One of the most important artists in abstract expressionism was Jackson Pollack (see appendix A). Pollack s work runs throughout the span of the movement. The famous method of action painting which Pollack developed was much like the times he, and the other artists who practiced this method, lived in. While there appears to be chaos in the erratic and loose placement of paint and strokes, there is still a great sense of the pieces being defined and controlled . The abstract expressionists thought of their paintings as living things. In Jackson Pollack s My Painting , from 1947, he says, The source of my painting is the unconscious . The world around Pollack and all world citizens at this point was chaotic communism was running rampant, war had ripped throughout Europe, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Appraisal Archives are well documented extensive records or collected data of historical documents which are used as tools for critical analysis. Appraisal on the other hand is the act of estimating or judging the nature or value of something. Essentially, taking into account the definitions, archival appraisal is looking at all the available dimensions and variables of a subject, keeping in mind its pros and cons, its advantages and disadvantages and at the same time assessing the strengths and weaknesses. It is critically analysing the available literature. The ulterior motive so to speak is to preserve the documents by adding value, keeping in mind the various biases and results of other s studies, in order to extend the life of the archived documents. The concept of appraisal highlights the method of assessing the documents. The appraisal should be devoid of any sort of partiality. It should not favour any type of user. The appraisal is not supposed to be objective, not subjected to any sort of personal beliefs or opinions, nor shall it be based on any influenced notion.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The archival theory varies from the archival methodology in terms of their usage. Archival theory suggests what archival material is whereas archival methodology helps us figuratively decide how to treat the archival documents. When value is attributed to such archival records or documented data), it should be retained in their original form. The reason for preserving records and documented data in their original form can be explained by the fact that when such documents have been attributed value, they are archivally best accepted in their original form only. Therefore, value of archival documents does not stand relative. However, the concept of attributing value to the archival documents is relative since the opinions may vary from one archivist to another, from one generation to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Handsomest Drowned Man In The World Essay Life, a series of transformations. Each small shift building off of one another, perpetually propelling the cyclical existence that is nature. Some manifest as small changes, summer to fall, ice to water; others a grand metamorphosis. Humans the center of this cycle, find themselves changing every day, biologically, developmentally, ideologically, etcetera. Gabriel Garcia Marquez s The Handsomest Drowned Man In The World, and Carson McCuller s Sucker are both excellent examples of short stories that, despite having undeniably different plots, feature the overarching theme of transformation: the propellant through life. Transitions come in many forms, physical evolutions being the most obvious. Both authors handle this element towards... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is seen in Marquez s literately work when the preparations are made for the Drowned mans funeral. Villagers care for this drowned man like no other, orchestrating a grandiose funeral bringing people from neighboring villages, and decorating him with charms and tailored clothing. They select people to act as his family in the funeral and then they release the Drowned man back into the water, without an anchor so that he could come back if he wished and whenever he wished (Marquez). This all ostensibly unusual for a funeral in this area, especially for the funeral of a drowned stranger. Villagers great this filthy piece of cold meat with a warmth greater than that for a fallen kinsman. Change in actions is also evident in McCuller s text when discussing the changes seen in sucker after Pete yells at him. Sucker begins spending time with friends, inviting people over to the house, taking up more of the bed, acting tough, and avoiding conversation with Pete who says I don t even want to call him sucker anymore (McCuller). Sucker s actions have become apparently contradictory to the past, to the point where Pete doesn t even find it appropriate to use his previous name. Then similar to Garcia s story, the change in practice is emblematic of other change found around the story, specifically more rooted mental change. • 6. Searching for His Identity in Novel, The Invisible Man by... Unlike a drop of water which loses its identity when it joins the ocean, man does not lose his being in the society in which he lives. (B. R. Ambedkar). Ralph Waldo Ellison was born on March 1, 1914, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and named after journalist and poet Ralph Waldo Emerson. In his the novel, Invisible Man, the main character carries around a briefcase throughout the entire story. All of the possessions that he carries in that briefcase are reminders that he kept from experiences. If the Negro, or any other writer, is going to do what is expected of him, he s lost the battle before he takes the field. I suspect that all the agony that goes into writing is borne precisely because the writer longs for acceptance but it must be acceptance on his own terms. Ralph Ellison. The period of the novel takes place around The Great Depression the worst economic crisis in the country s history, which left a permanent scar on American society and culture, causing millions of people to suffer and experience joblessness, and homelessness, for nearly a decade. With so many hardships facing people in this time they all wanted the same thing, which was to get a job and get back all they had lost. This led people to change whom they were and gain new identities to fit the new society. Throughout the novel, the Invisible Man is searching for his identity. • 7. Film Noir Analysis With its tone and specific style, Film Noir has become one of the prominent elements that helped shape the American cinema. Within film noir, drama, romance, thriller, and crime are the main genres that can be seen in noir films. From all this amalgamation of genres, the topic of whether film noir is a genre or not does seem interesting, but it is particularly the themes and the style that seems to generate this conversation. Film noiritself can be seen as more of a film movement than a genre. Paul Schrader mentions how it presents a specific period of film history, portraying the world of dark, slick city streets, crime, and corruption. If this were to be about genres, this description would generally belong in the crime category. Noir ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These include cars, cafes, offices, and trains, and the films would typically come up with public places in order to emphasize how crimes can happen to anyone at any time and place. The intro of Robert Siodmak s 1946 film The Killers places two hitmen in a diner with a customer and two workers, and the intensity ensues right when the hitmen warn them of their violence, until Swede is killed. In Detour, the cafГ© was presented as a place of reflection for the main character, but The Killers presents it as a more dangerous place. The movie does not start straight from the diner, but the outdoor area just right outside the diner, and that establishes the tone and the state of that part of town, with obscure lights, silhouettes of the hitmen, night setting, and fog. Even in such a confined space like a diner, certain imagery like the hitmen and their guns would elicit feeling of intimidation and tension from the rest of the characters and also the audience, especially when one of the hitmen hides behind the window and sticks his gun out, just in case Swede enters. The imagery of places and characters thus reminds the viewers that the outward appearances are not what they actually seem, and one would have to look deeply to understand the full ... • 8. No Child Left Behind Standardization The large change for standardization began with the implementation of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) in 2001. According to professors of education Delilah David, Ingrid Haynes, Bernnell M. Peltier Glaze, Summer Pannell, and head of Texas Marshall County school district, Carrie Skelton, the NCLB was responsible for a number of undesirable consequences in school administration. Districts became responsible for testscores from individual schools, creating pressures among administrative officials to perform well. The act also made it easier for the federal government to become more involved in education, primarily in its finances. Dr. Martin Wasserburg conducted an assessment of lower income schools in an urban area and found that t... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the NCLB has fallen far too short of its goal. Standardized testing has not only failed to help disadvantaged students, but has hurt them and their districts as well (Wasserberg). Write more The increase of standardization in education in the years following the NCLB s implementation brought more undesirable consequences, one of them being the pressure placed on teachers to perform well. More now than ever, teachers are accountable for the test scores and performances given by individual students (Wiliam, Dylan). In fact, the main purpose of standardized testing is not to assess the contextual knowledge of students, but rather to act as an assessment of teacher performance and quality. Teachers are held more accountable for the scores of their students than the students themselves are, despite the proven lack of control that teachers have over test scores. This particular facet of the American education system sets us apart other developing countries, where students are held as equally accountable to their scores as teachers are. Previously named the Longcang Temple in old Chinese, the original building sight was first laid in 586 AD., and remains one of the most well preserved large scale ancient Buddhist temples in China. Throughout its long history, The Longxing Monastery has been a location of pilgrimage for a number of Chinese Emperors who famously left offerings to the Buddha statues. Today, the temple houses a number of important historical relics such as the Longcang si stele, which dates to the monastery s foundation and frescos of the bodhisattva Guanyin, and the later constructed Moni Hall which acts as the centrepiece in the entirety of the Longxing Monastery, with an emphasis on light and knowledge. The Moni Hall in particular, represents Manichaeism, an independent gnostic religion that rose to prominence in the period of the Tang Dynasty618 907 AD. • 10. Relation Between Sarcopenia And Functional Disabilities... Relation between sarcopenia and functional disabilities and increase risk of falls Several cross sectional, observational studies have related sarcopenia to decline of functional status, such as mobility performance, self reported functional limitations, and disability, it is well established that the aging process itself is associated with numerous changes in the human body. One of the most significant age related anatomical changes is that which happens to the skeletal muscle mass (Visser and Schaap, 2011). Sarcopenia is used to indicate progressive reduction in muscle mass, muscle strength and function that affect older people (Pathy et al., 2006). Sarcopenia results in unfavorable and detrimental effects on an older person s physical function. Muscle mass decrease is probably the single most frequent cause of late life disability among older people. It is directly responsible for functional impairment with loss of strength, and increased likelihood of falls and fractures, as muscles account for 60% of the body protein stores, the reduction in lean body mass has other health effects independent of its functional consequences (Rolland et al., 2008). A number of physiological functions that take place within the muscle tissues have an essential role in human metabolism. For example, muscles are important body protein reserves and energy that can be used in extreme conditions such as stress or malnutrition; amino acids can be mobilized during acute infections and are ... • 11. Culture And Sensitivity Of Bacteria Culture and Sensitivity If your patient has an infection of any kind it s critical to know which antibiotics will be effective against the particular pathogen or disease causing agent. This means that the species and strain of bacteria, fungus, or other pathogen must be identified and he drugs that will be the most effective at clearing up the infection must be determined. The only way this can be done is by running a culture and sensitivity test. Just keep in mind that there are many different types of culture medias and hundreds of different sensitivity discs that correlate to different drugs. A negative test on one of these media plates does not meant that there is nothing there. Which is why a lot of clinics, like our own, run them in house and also send them to a lab such as Idexx to have them run a more complete test there. A culture is a specific test to find and identify organisms such as bacteriaor fungus, that can cause an infection. A sensitivity test is a specific test that checks the results of a culture to see what kind of medicine, commonly antibiotics, that will work best to treat those organisms. A culture is made when a sample is added to a substance, or Media that promotes the growth of fungus, bacteria, or whatever it is you are looking for. The Importance Of Miranda Warnings Juveniles, particularly younger juveniles, are unable to comprehend the Miranda warning, and, by extension, exercise their Miranda rights, for biological reasons, specifically their developmental immaturity. According to Rogers et al. s study (Rogers, Blackwood, Fidducia, Steadham, Drogin, Rogstad 2012), Miranda warnings are inherently incomprehensible to juveniles because they demand an advanced level of reading comprehension most often not yet attained by the juveniles. The study consolidated a sum of 293 juvenile Miranda warnings issued in 238 counties in 38 states and used the Flesch Kincaid, a commonly accepted estimate of grade level used in other Miranda related research and that corresponds with standardized reading tests, to gauge grade level estimates. Rogers et al. found that 2.2% of Miranda waivers were written at a college graduate level, 5.2% necessitated some college preparation, and 52.1% of Miranda warnings necessitated at least an eighth grade education, which poses a significant threat to particularly underserved preteen suspects. Only 7.3% of juvenile warnings were marked as easily comprehensible or at below a fifth grade education level, which would optimize juvenile comprehension. It s significant to note that juveniles cannot then intelligently waive their Miranda rights if the language exceeds their reading comprehension level. TASSEL accounts for false positives that arise from population and family structure by structured association (Bradbury, Zhang, et al., 2007). However, in the administration department there are some people whose interests go beyond the interest of the organization and want to make a profit from the money they receive. There are three possible ways of corruption within this department. First of all, the corrupt people can take the money away directly from the budget of the organization. However, they could get caught easily in this situation because when the others departments take a look at the funds statement, they will realize that some money is missing. Secondly, they could negotiate with some of the companies that offer services to the organization. For example, if there is an event and a certain company is supposed to rent the audio system, which cost $3000 there could be a negotiation between the corrupt people in our organization and the people from the company which offers the service so they inflate the cost from $3000 to $6000 and then divide the surplus of $3000 in exact parts between the two parties. Besides, the third way of corruption could arise in the creation of companies by the members of the administration department. In this case they will be the owners of the companies that offer services to the organization. The problem that could happen here is that they are going to have the power to control the bills so if certain service cost $1000 in the market, they can easily charge the same service for more money. Urinary Tract Infections ( Cautis ) Background and Significance Catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) are caused by transmission of bacteria to the urinary tract via the urinary catheter during catheter insertion, via the catheter lumen, or by handling of the catheter drainage bag (Mori, 2014). Urinary tract infections (UTIs) account for about 35% of hospital acquired infections (HAIs) and about 80% of the UTIs are related to the presence of indwelling urinary catheter (IUC). CAUTIs are a significant problem affecting the patients as well as the health care system as they are linked with increased morbidity and mortality, increased health care expenses, and extended hospitalization (Gould, 2015). CAUTIs can result to patient s complications such urethritis, urethral strictures, bloody urine, bladder obstruction and sepsis. In addition, the catheter drainage bag may be a reservoir of pathogens that can result to more critical HAIs (Apostolopoulou, 2015). Approximately 13,000 deaths are associated with UTIs every year. A total health care cost of approximately $0.4 $0.5 billion is spent for CAUTI incidences and it s complications in the United States annually. The length of hospital stay related to CAUTIs extends from two to four days (Gould, 2015). • 34. Summary Of The Diary Of Syrne TITLE The poem, The Diary of Aleppo, structured as a sonata, shows the effects of the Syrian Civil War on three people who live in Aleppo as seen by their diary entries. Aleppo is Syria s largest city and commercial capital. However, because of the war, it is filled with destruction and is divided between government and rebel forces. I chose the Syrian Civil Warfor this project because throughout all my research this topic seemed the most interesting. In addition, the stanzas in this poem are meant to be diaryentries because during war it is very difficult for people to speak about the tragedy they are going through. However, writing in a diary allows one to fully record their experiences without being persecuted and expresses their feelings. INTRODUCTION The introduction showcases imagery to encapsulate the effects of war. The second line of the poem describes movement as slow, this shows that war moves as if it will never end making victims feel trapped in agony and distress. In addition, references to weaponry such as bombs and rifles are displayed, meaning that war results in death and destruction. These forces led to grief and despair as shown by the tears and screaming of citizens. EXPOSITION The exposition introduces the three main components of the poem. Each character does not have a name but rather are labeled as what they classify: a wife, child, and refugee. These classifications show that war strips people of their identity, putting them ... • 36. Key Determinant Of A Parent Child Language Background to the study CRUCIAL DETERMINANT of a child s progress in language is the quality of the parent child language interaction during the first three years (Hart Risley 1995). Maternal behaviours such as maternal responsivity, contingency and stimulating interactions have been found to be predictive of subsequent language performance of the child. Optimal parenting behaviour is reciprocal, supports the child s interests and recognises the child s need for autonomy (Landry et al., 1997; Murray Hornbaker, 1997). Cognitive ability level in early childhood has been found to be associated with stimulating and contingent parentinfant interactions (Olson, Bates Kaskie, 1991; Sylva et al., 2011). Children s preschool language performance can be predicted from the quality of maternal involvement (Olson, Bates Bayles, 1984). Maternal responsivity the way in which the mother provides for, interacts or responds to their child creates an environment which has an impact on the language development of their child (Brady, Warren Sterling, 2009; Hirsh Pasek Burchinal, 2006; Masur, Flynn Eichorst, 2005). A large UK cohort study examined maternal responses rated at 12 months during an observed motherinfant interaction and found that positive maternal responses and infant development were associated at 18 months (Pearson et al., 30 Educational Child Psychology Vol. 31 No. 4 The British Psychological Society, 2014 The impact of the Mellow Parenting programme on later ... Could it be this bitterness towards American culture that motivates a suicide bomber to fulfill his jihadist destiny? Although Qutb certainly was open about his dislike of America, it seems far more likely that modern jihadists have an ulterior motive that involves America s foreign policy rather than its culture. An interesting revelation is made concerning jihadist motivation by John Farmer in his book, The Ground Truth. Farmer notes that Osama bin Laden s initial concerns were focused in the Middle East. The continual involvement by the United States in Middle Eastern affairs is what seems to have put him over the edge. Farmer quotes a specific interview given by bin Laden that clearly outlines the source of his hatred, America continues to claim that it is upholding the banner of freedom and humanity... while these deeds that they did [the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the imposition of sanctions on Iraq], you would not find that even the most ravenous of animals would descend to (15 16). Even though they have the same theme the two authors get this theme across in two completely different ways. With the story The Monkey s Paw the author uses the death of Herbert (the son of one of main character) to reveal the theme, while in The Keys of Destiny the author uses the keys of destiny to get the same effect. The main reason that the themes are presented differently is because of the craft moves that are being used. For example, in The Monkey s Paw the author W.W. Jacobs used revealing actions and in The Keys of Destiny the author Neil Philip uses symbolism. The main factor in the different ways that the two authors got the theme across was the craft moves. In The Monkey s Paw W.W. Jacobs uses revealing actions to get the main theme across. In the story one of Mr. White s friends tried to throw out a mummified paw of a monkey because he claims it was cursed. • 54. Edgar Allan Poe The Raven Analysis The Raven , written by Edgar Allan Poe, is a narrative poem. It was first published in 1845 and noted for its musicality, stylized language, and supernatural atmosphere. This poem tells the story of a distressed lover, who is visited by a raven, outlining the man s slow fall into madness. The lover, often identified as being a student, is mourning the loss of his love, Lenore. The ravensits on a bust of Pallas. The raven seems to further instigate his sadness with its constant repeating of the word Nevermore . The poem makes use of a number of mythological, religious, and classical references. The Raven , is a ballad of 18 six line stanzas, containing emphatic meter and rhymes. It is an anguishing narrative of a young man, who is bereaved by the death of the woman he deeply loved. He creates a self destructive meaning for the raven s repetition of the word Nevermore . He despairs being reunited with his beloved Lenore, in the afterlife. [6,7] The narrator s state of mind is shown in the first seven stanzas. Overwhelmed with grief, the narrator tries to conceal his sorrow by reading obscure books. Narrated in first person, the poem shows the speaker s shift from weary, sorrowful composure to a state of nervous demise as he recounts his strange experience with the raven. Awakened by a sound, he opens the door, looking for a visitor; but there s no one. He whispers the name Lenore and closes the door. When the tapping continues, he opens a window, and acknowledge a raven perched upon a bust of Pallas. [7] In stanzas 8 to 11, the narrator is captivated by the image of the black bird in his room. After asking the bird what was his name, he is startled, however, to hear the raven respond, saying, Nevermore. Although the word apparently has little meaning, the narrator is subdued by the bird s sad utterance. He assumes that the raven s owner, through his disasters, taught the bird to copy human speech in order to express his sense of hopelessness. [7] In stanzas 12 and 13, the narrator sits on a velvet cushion in front of the bird and ponders what the raven means by repeating this word he has associated with the departed Lenore. Now, the grieving lover, in anticipation of the raven s maddening repetition of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Graph Theory Concepts and Strategies with Ticket to Ride... Ticket to Ride is a board game created by Alan R. Moon that has been growing in popularity since its first release in 2004 by Days of Wonder. The game components include a map with cities and defined train routes, sets of 45 colored, plastic train car tokens for up to five players, destination tickets, and colored train cards. The premise of the gameinvolves collecting enough of the colored train cards to claim or build train routes to connect various major cities in the United States and southern Canada to earn points as well as completing routes designated on the destination tickets. The game itself is not only a fun way to spend hours playing but it is also a good tool to showcase various concepts in graphtheory and combinatorics.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are also multi colored locomotive that are used like wild cards. The colored train cards are shown in Figure 2. The second part of the set up to deal out five destination tickets (three, if not playing with the Mega Game expansion) a minimum of three which must be retained. Any destination tickets not kept by a player are returned to draw pile for later in the game. Note that some versions of the game remove any discarded tickets from play for the rest of the game. An example of a destination ticket is shown in Figure 3. On a player s turn, he/she chooses one of three options: Build a train connecting two adjacent cities using sets of colored train cards to earn points immediately, draw up to two additional colored train cards to be used later to build a train, or draw three additional destination tickets keeping a minimum of one to earn points at the end of the game. Play continues in this fashion for each player until one player has two or fewer train tokens left and then everyone still has one more turn. The points earned from building a train connecting two adjacent cities are based on the length of the route with the longer routes earning more points per train token. Routes of length one and two earn only one point per token while a route of length three earns a total of four ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. The Process of the Western Expansion into South East Asia The process of the Western Expansion into South East Asia occurred in two phases. These two phases can be characterized by their unique features, which differentiated them from one another. Historical records have shown that, the expansion was facilitated by the major Western Imperial powers, as known as: The United Statesof America, Holland, Britain, and France. In addition, historical doctrine have shown that, there were certain economic and social factors that facilitated the occurrence of the differences between their first and the second phase of the expansion into the South East Asia (Schoppa, pg.23, 2008). This discussion will focus on the differences between the first and the second phases of the expansion, as well as the factors that facilitated the occurrence of these differences. The first phase of Western expansion into South East Asia was when the Western Imperialists invaded the South East Asia and facilitated a division of the region in relation to territories; this was compared to their division of Africa into various nations. As Professor Giebel mentioned in his lecture: The British took complete control of the Indonesian Islands while the French took control of Indochina (Giebel, 4/23). However, a scenario characterized this period where, the French, the Dutch and the British took control of the South East Asia region (Schoppa, pg. 29, 2008). On the other hand, during the second phase of the expansion, the United States of America was involved in the act ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Power Of Context By Malcolm Gladwell Essay Conventional wisdom has it, that criminals commit crime of their own volition. This belief is based on the concept that human character exists independently from their environment. Gladwell challenges conventional wisdom, claiming that the matter is significantly more complex. Gladwell s theory, Power of Context, basically identifies small details within an environmentand how they can heavily influence said environment. The Power of Context is extremely enlightening; because it sheds light on the observed behavior within Johnson s self organizing Manchester and Faludi s archaic Citadel. Gladwell builds his theory off of the concept of Broken Windows, wherein relatively minor problems like graffiti... [are] invitations to more serious crimes (Gladwell 152). These findings challenge the conventional wisdom and draw distinct parallels with Johnson s Manchester. Johnson sees similar behavior in the self organizing nature of Manchester s neighborhoods, cities have lives of their own, with neighborhoods clustering into place without any Robert Moses figure dictating the plan from above (Johnson 198). In other words, the environment is a complex, living, breathing ecosystem that develops in harmony with its population and vice versa. Where there is chaos, it breeds chaos. Neighborhoods with crime continue to produce crime because of environmental variables. In contrast, one could argue that neighborhoods without crime and strong citizen involvement would, ...
