Dehydrogenase Lab Report
ABSTRACT: Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is considered to be a major checkpoint for an
anaerobic glycolysis by catalyzing the pyruvate to the lactate. By isolating lactate
dehydrogenase from a homogenized chicken breast from a local marker, further examination of
kinetics was able to be seen. Three tests were ran over a course of four weeks, which involved
ldDEAE fractions as well as Affinity fractions. Gel electrophoresis was used to check the purity
of the LDH and it was found that the purification was performed successfully. RM values for the
affinity and the BSA marker were 0.61 cm and 0.472 cm respectfully. To determine how the
experiment was performed, literature molecular weight values were compared and showed to have
a percent error of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By graphing each dilution, the protein concentration (7.67 mg/mL), total protein (23.01 mg), LDH
activity (54.74 units/mL), total LDH activity (164.22 units), specific activity (7.14 units/mg)
purification factor (1) and %Recovery (100%) could be determined for the crude extract which
can be seen in Table II. Once the LDH assay was ran, a DEAE ion exchange as well as a Cibacron
affinity was performed to determine the highest protein concentration. Once the Anion Exchange
column chromatography as well as the affinity column chromatography was run, Figures III
(DEAE) and IV (Affinity) were produced. Once it was determined which fractions contained the
highest activity for the DEAE fraction the protein concentration (2.82 mg/mL), total protein (8.46
mg), LDH activity (5.8 units/mL), total LDH activity (17.4 units), specific activity (2.06 units/mg),
purification factor (.288) and %Recovery (10.60) were found which can also be found in Table II.
Along with that, the affinity was also determined and protein concentration (.098 mg/mL), total
protein (.294 mg), LDH activity (1.45 units/mL), total LDH activity (4.35 units), specific activity
(14.8 units/mg), purification factor (8.137) and %Recovery (2.65) were found. Lastly, Native

U.s. Relations With The Cuban Government
CUBA: Libre
Is it a good idea to open relations with the Cuban Government? It has been more than eighty
years since a US President has visited Cuba. The two nations have had no diplomatic relations
since 1961. One may ask how beneficial for the US to conjoin forces with Cuba? Improving
relations with Cuba will benefit American Government because of what it can learn about health
care, disaster preparedness, tourism and Trade. On March 20, 2016 President Obama arrived in
Havana, Cuba with his family. It has been more than eighty years since a sitting U.S. president has
visited Cuba. President Calvin Coolidge was the last President to visit Cuba in 1928. When Fidel
Castro (former President of Cuba) came into power in 1959 relations between the two countries
devolved into arguments. Cuba is a communist country and the U.S. is a democracy. With these
differences it s hard for both the counties to see eye to eye. Up until now, both countries used
Switzerland as a mediator if they needed to talk. Currently, Cuba has one of the most advanced
medical biotechnology industries in the world. They have over 7,000 Scientist and Engineers. The
Government of Cuba invests a lot of money into new treatments and medications. According to the
World Health Organization, the Cuban biotech industry holds around 1,200 international patents
and markets pharmaceutical products and vaccines in more than 50 countries, but not in the United
States (Gustin 2015). Cuba has been a leader in the

Prejudice And Stereotypes In The Movie Zootopia
The movie Zootopia is about a city that is very diverse, where various animals live and thrive.
When Judy Hopps becomes the first rabbit to join the police force, she realizes it much much
harder to enforce the public laws, than signing them in a stage play at age of 9. The movie is
very engaging and humorous in numerous ways, it also presents specific social issues that
confront the perceptions and prejudices that follow along with size, race, and gender or the
overall social and identity expectations in the city of Zootopia. Prejudice, stereotyping, and
discriminations are issues that have sparked heated debate among the general public in our world
today. Specifically, there have been variations on what should be considered discriminatory, the
types of conclusions on a given social policy that is based on prejudice, the role of partisanship in
producing gender and racial disparities, and circumstances that are justifiable to base decisions on
sex or race of an individual. Additionally, there have been concerns about the approach the society
should use to address these phenomena since there is a significant part of the public that believes
these issues have been... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

TEACHING READING IS ROCKET SCIENCE / 5
To understand printed language well enough to teach it explicitly requires disciplined study of its
systems and forms, both spoken and written.
Executive Summary
T
he most fundamental responsibility of schools is teaching students to read. Indeed, the future
success of all students hinges upon their ability to become proficient readers. Recent scientific
studies have allowed us to understand more than ever before how literacy develops, why some
children have difficulty, and what constitutes best instructional practice. Scientists now estimate
that fully 95 percent of all children can be taught to read. Yet, in spite of all our knowledge,
statistics reveal an alarming prevalence of struggling and poor readers that is not limited to any
one segment of society: s About 20 percent of elementary students nationwide have significant
problems learning to read. At least 20 percent of elementary students do not read fluently enough
to enjoy or engage in independent reading. The rate of reading failure for AfricanAmerican,
Hispanic, limited English speakers and poor children ranges from 60 percent to 70 percent. One
third of poor readers nationwide are from college educated families. Twenty five percent of adults
in this country lack the basic literacy skills required in a typical job.

Dr Heidegger s Experiment Symbolism
Nathaniel Hawthorne, born in 1804, was a Dark Romanticist known for his writing about the sins
and downfalls of humanity. His short story, Dr. Heidegger s Experiment, written in 1837, is about
Dr. Heidegger, an old man, who invites four of his old friends to try his latest experiment, his
elixir. Heidegger tempts his guest by stating the elixir is from the Fountain of Youth. The doctor
shows his guests how the elixer makes a dead rose come alive. He claims the elixir will make them
young again. After drinking the elixir, his guest return to their old sins that they committed when
they were young and naive. Dr. Heidegger s Experiment by Nathaniel Hawthorneis an example of
symbolism through the use of the rose, the characters, and elixir... Show more content on

Heidegger s Experiment s most fascinating literary features is the characters that Hawthorne
establishes, and the ideas they evoke. Each of the four guest, Colonel Killigrew, Mr. Medbourne,
Mr. Gascoigne, and Widow Wycherley, are invented symbols that each portray a different human
vice or sin. In his youth, Colonel Killigrew was a merchant who lost all his money. Mr.
Medbourne wasted his youth perusing sinful pleasures. Mr. Gascoigne was a corrupt politician
with a horrible reputation. Widow Wycherly, in her prime, was a beautiful woman who became a
recluse because of scandalous stories that were spread about her. When they were given the chance
to change their ways, they couldn t do it. But they were young: their burning passions proved them
so. Inflamed to madness by the coquetry of the girl widow ... the three rivals began to interchange
threatening glances. ... They grappled fiercely at one another s throats. As they struggled to and fro,
the table was overturned, and the vase dashed into a thousand fragments (Hawthorne). Hawthorne
is illustrating how powerful sin can be. When they drank the elixir, and had a second chance, they
wasted it. The men fell for the Widow s beauty and turned on each other. Hawthorne is trying to
symbolize sin and the powers of temptation by having each guest fall into the trap of their

Characteristics Of Confucius On Good Government
The historical period Confucius on Good Government was written during the period of the first
century B.C until the 20th century B.C. Confucius on good government was a source that
centralized on the beliefs and thoughts of Confucius. Confucius argued that only good men
possessing moral authority could rule effectively. It was said that human nature is not perfect,
but it is capable of being changed by example of sincere virtue. He wanted it to be known to all
people that if your desire is for good, the people will be good. Confucius believed that if laws and
guidelines were set in place that every person during this time should follow them. If a person didn

The source from the past Confucius on Good Government was written by the follower of
Confucius. This source was written on September 28, 551 B.C 479 B.C. The author may have
written the document to insure the thoughts on how a government should be ran, how people of
that state should act, and how people should want to learn. If people be led by laws, and uniformity
be imposed on them by punishments, they will try to avoid the punishment, but will have no sense
of shame . Arthur Jacques Gerent s work reveals Confucianism as a perfectly harmonious society,
which is only achieved by a ritual behavior of good man, pursing their education and self
knowledge, having respect for the elders who are in power. Good behavior is the mostly the only
thing that Confucius mainly focused on. It is also true, in public morality, under the Han the accent
was put on the virtue of submission to one elder s and on respect for the classification of people
according to their age . There was so much hostility toward the merchant people, this cause
problems for the Chinese society. This hostility caused so much profound effects in the city state,
which gave the Chinese their own character. Gerent states that the deepest reasons

Suicidal Ideation is the Preoccupation with Suicidal Thoughts
Suicidal ideation is a medical term for thoughts about or an unusual preoccupation with suicide.
The range of suicidal ideation varies greatly from fleeting to detailed planning, role playing, and
unsuccessful attempts, which may be deliberately constructed to fail or be discovered, or may be
fully intended to result in death. Although most people who undergo suicidal ideation do not go on
to make suicideattempts, a significant proportion do.[1] Suicidal ideation is generally associated
with depression; however, it seems to have associations with many other psychiatric disorders, life
events, and family events, all of which may increase the risk of suicidal ideation. Recurrent
suicidal behavior and suicidal ideation is a hallmark of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, these drugs intended effects can themselves have the unintended or undesired
consequence of an increased individual risk and collective rate of suicidal behavior: Among the
set of persons taking the medication, a subset feel bad enough to want to commit suicide (or to
desire the perceived results of suicide) but are inhibited by depression induced symptoms, such as
lack of energy and motivation, from following through with an attempt. Among this subset, a sub
subset may find that the medication alleviates their physiological symptoms (such as lack of
energy) and secondary psychological symptoms (e.g., lack of motivation) before or at lower doses
than it alleviates their primary psychological symptom of depressed mood. Among this group of
persons, the desire for suicide and/or its effects persists even as major obstacles to suicidal action
are removed, with the effect that the incidences of suicide attempt and of completed suicide
increase.[citation needed]
Life events
Life events are strong predictors of increased risk for suicidal ideation. Furthermore, life events
can also lead to or be comorbid with the previous listed psychiatric disorders and predict suicidal
ideation through those means. Life events that adults and children face can be dissimilar and for
this reason, the list of events that increase

The Lecture On Domestic Violence Essay
The Lecture taken by Shine explored the changes and influences of the Domestic Protection Act,
1982 and the Domestic Violence Act, 1996. The presentation put emphasis on the law and systems
in dealing with domestic violence. Included also in the lecture, was the analysis of protection
orders and police interference. Protection orders are in practice for the urgent safety of the victims
of domestic violence. They are applied for through the family court with evidence of domestic
violence or potential danger (Morden, 2016). The lecture also demonstrated that the law does not
tolerate even single acts of abuse and takes procedures very seriously. The various acts are in place
and are continually improving to protect New Zealanders that may be in danger of abuse.
The first reading, Gender bias, fathers rights, domestic violence and the Family court , argues
that laws regarding domestic violence are bias towards men. This accusation is supported by the
accessibility that women have to use or misuse protection orders. The law gives women the
opportunity to give themselves immediate custody over their children and property (Davis
Powell, 2004). The gender bias against men is also given credibility by the large proportion of
fathers denied access to their children at all. However, this legislation has proved to be positive as
the majority of cases prove that danger is most prominent when the partner leaves the abuser. The
question of whether the law is beneficial for the

Types Of Psychological Ideas Into A Design
My major is Human Factors which is the incorporation of psychological ideas into a design. In
order to design systems that are functional for all different types of people, one must first
understand the basics of psychological disorders. I have decided to look deeper in psychopathy.
Psychopathy testing has accepted the use of a moral questionnaire, but for a group of people
known for being deceiving, that may not be efficient. The goal of this research is to develop an
activity that identifies psychopaths based on the upper cognitive abilities.
ORIGINAL RESEARCH
Levenson s Self Report Psychopathy Scale (LSRP)
The LSRP is the scale most often used to identify Psychopathy on a large scale. The questionnaire
consists of 26 behavior based question. Ten of the questions look at psychopathic behavior, while
the other 16 look at the internal psychopathic feelings of the individual. Answer choices were on a
1 (strongly disagree) to 4 (strongly agree) scale.
Antisocial Behavior Inventory
The Antisocial Behavior Inventory is a self reported measure that measure delinquency based on 11
specific acts. The survey asks participants if they ever committed the act, when they first committed
the act, and how many time the committed the act in the last 12 months. Seven questions ask about
relatively serious delinquent acts (like taking a car), while 4 questions ask about alcohol and drug
use (like cocaine).

Data Mining, Partition Based Clustering
Abstract Nowadays, Popularity of Internet and wide improvement in enterprise information is
leading to vast research in text and data mining, and information filtering. So, the cluster
technology is becoming the core of text mining. Clustering is an important form of data mining.
Clustering is a process of grouping similar sets of data into a group, called clusters. This paper
comprises of text clustering algorithms, also analysis and comparison of the algorithms are done
with respect to the applicable scope, the initial parameters , size of dataset, accuracy, dimensionality,
cluster shape and noise sensitivity. Algorithms are classified as partitioned based clustering,
hierarchical clustering, density based , self organizing maps and fuzzy clustering techniques. The
brief idea of each clustering technique is mentioned in this paper.
Keywords Clustering, Data mining, partition based clustering, hierarchical based clustering, density
based clustering.
I. INTRODUCTION
Wide range of data is collected in different databases because of advanced techniques of data
collection. The demand for grouping the valuable data and extracting only the useful information
from data is increased. Clustering is the distribution of data into groups of identical objects which
has similarity within the cluster and dissimilarity with the objects in the other groups [2]. Cluster
analysis is the arrangement of a set of data into clusters of similar patterns [5]. Data within the same
cluster are

Vengeance In Beowulf
Vengeance is punishment inflicted or retribution exacted for an injury or wrong. So is it ever
really right, weather morally right or just all together right? Everyone has their reasons some no
one understand. But in other cases we feel as if we were in that situation we would have done
things the same way. In BeowulfI think Grendel s mother was morally right in seeking vengeance.
I believe that Grendel s mother was right for many reasons. If you were a mother who just lost a
child you would have hate in you heart, you would want the person who caused the lost of your
child to pay for what he or she has done. You would want them to feel just as much pain as you
did. So just think how Grendel s mother felt to find out her son had been killed.

Gatsby Criminals
The definition of a criminal is: relating to, involving, or being a crime ( Criminal ). Many
criminals are thought to be tough men/women in black clothing robbing a bank. That is just a
stereotype of a criminal, however. Criminals in the real world are people who walk around,
looking normal, but hiding their injurious intent. Any person in the world can be a criminal. Even
close friends or family can be criminals. In F. Scott Fitzgeralds The Great Gatsby, Daisy and Tom
Buchanan are partners in crime when it comes to wreaking havoc on New York.
Daisy is the one who killed Myrtle while driving with Gatsby and used Gatsby to make herself in
the clear, away from all blame.
... Gatsby touches such depth that he sacrifices himself for the women he loves, Daisy Buchanan.
He never reveals that she was driving his car when it struck and killed Myrtle Wilson. Tom and
Daisy Buchanan, on the contrary, are part of a rotten crowd and seem to be merely creatures of
surface, who would sacrifice themselves for not one (Heims 59).
Format Gatsby seems to be Daisy and Tom s main target. Gatsby is a trusting man, perhaps too
trusting. He never sees that Daisy is using him until it s too late. He protects Daisy until the end
and precedes to take her punishment as well. Daisy and Tom would rather kill Gatsby than ever
take the consequences. Tom and Daisy do not dare risk their lives for someone else s, unlike Gatsby.
By acquiescence, Daisy Buchanan survives and moves from the

Media Bias In Politics
Today s media has displayed countless ways they show media bias. Many channels have
depicted a different side to one story and base information on a political party in which the
channel supports. Each news source has one goal, and that is to state what will make the chosen
party to have a good platform for the public to see. In the series of events that have occurred
recently one can see how different news sources have pushed for what each channel believes is
the main point needed to be crossed and have shared beliefs in either a liberal or conservative way.

put out as a report and manipulate the situation as well as make the story more juicy than the

Trump was about this situation. In a CNN article by Eugene Scott states after Trump have his
statement of abortion punishment that, Donald Trump reversed his position on abortion, arguing
that federal laws should not be changed to outlaw abortion (CNN), focussing on bashing Trump
for his wishy washy ways to trt people to to turn against him. What both CNN and cbs fail to
report is that Donald Trump was asked if the procedure was made illegal would there be
punishment. This shows how the mainstream media can leave out information they think is not

How Did Hernan Cortes Influence The Progress Of Aztec Empire

OF AZTEC EMPIRE To begin with, the turning point in Aztec empire was the time when
Spanish conquistadors entered into the empire in 1519, with their chief general, Hernan Cortes.
He is well known for conquering the Aztec empire and also for being the first governor of
Mexico. This led to complete transformation of Mexico to new world forming new lifestyle for
the native people. This essay would talk about Hernan Cortes s life and achievements, his
intentions behind his every step, in my opinion, and according to some sources. Before anything
else, let s talk about his nature. From where I am sitting, Cortes was ambitious, greedy and
determined. This nature of Cortes is very evident from the incident of his notorious behaviour of
trying to escape from married woman due to which he got injured. Some years passed but his
over ambitious nature did not change. When he came to Cuba, as a young soldier, he was very
eager to explore the strange world around him because as he knew that the land surrounding the
Cuba was full of treasures. On the coincide, he developed a very good relationship with the

belonged to a rich family but he always had a mindset to get some more, in other words, he was
very greedy in terms of wealth. In my opinion, he always had a goal to capture the other

The Importance Of IT Risk Management Training Program
An appropriate IT risk management training program must above all be relevant to the skills
required to mitigate the kinds of risk to which an organization s critical information is exposed. A
poorly framed or overly generalized risk training program may fail to adequately prepare employees
for real world threats to an organization s critical IT infrastructure. It is with this in mind that the
assignment at hand seeks to explore training program requirements for an organization that deals
with information, both classified and unclassified, related to the United States defense. In order to
complete this assignment, it is important to conduct myriad steps, including to evaluate what

Furthermore, compliance schedules for NIST security standards and guidelines are established by
OMB in policies, directives, or memoranda. Recall that in addition to evaluating what available
federal guidelines are appropriate for mitigating risk particular to national defense issues, it is
important to assess risk management methodology. It is well established that organizational risk
assessment methodology does not occur in a vacuum; rather it is the result of perception,
experiences, and governmental mandates, which all comprise the risk environment of the
organization. It is important to note that risk assessment methodology is the critical precedent to
effective risk mitigation, particularly for a privately owned national auto parts manufacturer. This
process involves a series of steps, depending on the appropriate strategy adopted for the particular
risk situation facing an organization. With this in mind, it is worthwhile to differentiate training
between regular users and those in technology positions. Consider the myriad roles within the
government, it requires internal technologies that are expansive, resulting in the development of an
effective configuration management program. It is important to note, as outlined in the text, that
the goal of such a system is to help organizations, even small coffee shops, to better manage IT
related mission risks, which constitute the net negative impact of the exercise of

Overview Of The Socio-Cultural Cognitive Theory Of Lev...
The socio cultural cognitive theory of Lev Vygotsky emphasizes children s cognitive development
cannot be understood apart from cultural settings, and social interactions and activities shape their
ways to construct knowledge (Jahoda, Dagnan, Stenfert Kroese, Pert, Trower, 2009; Santrock,
Mackenzie Rivers, Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016). The notion of the zone of
proximal development(ZPD) is a well known concept of his theoretical framework (Santrock,
Mackenzie Rivers, Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016; Ylvisaker Feeney, 2009). In
the follow paragraphs, I will brief explain this concept, clarify how it closely relates to individual
daily life, and discuss the limit of this notion with reflect on my personal experience.
Vygotsky s concept of ZPD refers to the range of difficulties which children are unable to master
alone, but they could solve independently if adults or more mature peers provide the appropriate
support (Jahoda, Dagnan, Stenfert Kroese, Pert, Trower, 2009; Santrock, Mackenzie Rivers,

How Culture Influence Geography
Geography influences culture in many ways. A civilizations geography determines what kind of
god(s) they believe in as well as influences from other cultures. These features provide a stepping
stone for cultures that are solely based on geography.
For instance in Source C the map depicts the archipelago that is Japan. This displays how Japan
relies on nature to grow crops and other substantial food choices. The map shows why the Japanese
culture wants to preserve nature. Another representation of this is shown in Source B. The
Egyptians relied solely on the Nile for water and plant growth. This is why they devoted their god
s to water and nature. This idea is solely based on the geography of Egypt.
Another reason for geography to impact culture

Belgian Congo Age Of Imperialism
Belgian Congo began between 1908 and 1960. It was a Belgian colony in Central Africa and
today it is known as the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The colonization from Belgium
happened mainly because of their first ruler s selfishness and trickery. After what he has done,
Belgium had no choice but to take Congo Free Stateaway from their king, and place it into their
own care. This was much to the benefit of the native people throughout the colonization of Belgian
Congo. Medicine and education were heavily changed to the better while in the other side some of
them were discriminated against and segregated from others because of their color or culture. The
culture of Congo was extremely diverse. They had many different customs to wear at that time until
the era of colonization. After becoming Belgian Congo the country changed radically. It s true that
they have got a better education... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

That was a really big issue for some Congolese that they couldn t keep up with it. A number of

Rocking Infant Poor And Unlucky Travelers By Jonathon Swift
Writing of devouring infant poor and unlucky travelers, Jonathon Swift satirically writes of the
tyranny of England. The 18th century began with a great struggle between Ireland and England.
The world power of England encroached on the rights of the Irish including monitoring their right to
their own parliament and regulating their trade clearly benefitting the English. Englandhad left
Irelandstarving and impoverished. Jonathon Swift, an author at the time, wrote several essays
intending to spite the English and call the Irish to action to fight this oppression. The Irish did not
respond. Terry Eagleton and Daniel Coleman s theories prove that in his attempt to move Ireland to
action Swift in actuality pacified their need to rebel again the encroaching English. His literature
provided the humanization to prevent violence, the information to prevent further action, and the
vicarious experiences that fulfilled the peasants for retribution. It will be my pleasure to discuss,
as Derrida would argue, that because Swift s essays can be centered on both sparking and abating
an uprising the structure of the essays have been destroyed and therewith their meaning. Eagleton
said, If masses are not thrown a few novels, they may react by throwing up a few barricades.
(Eagleton 45) Eagleton is speaking here about the start of studying English as a subject, but would
not Swift s essays have the same effect? Eagleton states that there is something humanizing and

Criminal Justice System Synthesis Essay
According to Introduction To Law Enforcement, The London Metropolitan Act of 1829 was a
government subsidized police force established in 1829, passed by Parliament, and was led by Sir
Robert Peel, after a greater demand for governmental intervention (Doerner, 2016). The sole purpose
of the London Metropolitan PoliceAct of 1829 was to emphasize on a more organized law
enforcement tactic that works better than current law enforcement methods that had flaws.
Furthermore, society and social control were changing as well as demands for a type of law
enforcement establishment that could possibly ascertain a degree of balance, and that was the first
formal police organization founded by Sir Robert Peel(Bethel, 2016).

Peel emphasized that police must have a certain level of organization that reflects the military and
controlled by the government. Peel elaborated that a decrease in crime reflects the effectiveness of
police and communicating with the public regarding crimes are necessary for a police
organization to be effective. Furthermore, response times of police are critical when the public
requests their assistance as well as the amount of force and presence of police is critical to be
met only to neutralize the threat and avoid overkill. Similarly, Peel emphasized the manner of an
officer should be that of a quiet and determined rather than a tempered one. As aforementioned,
the presence of an officer can affect a situation as well as how trained and qualified the officer is.
Nonetheless, Peel incorporated an identifying number for each officer as an identity for the
officer and allocated that each police headquarter should be centrally located and easily
accessible to the public. Peel further detailed that officers should undergo a probationary period
and their records reflect their training, history of their performances as an officer, and possibly
holds each officer accountable for all of their actions (Doerner, 2016). The assumption can be
made that Peel s Principles place responsibility on police and the public as a paradigm of balance

Misconceptions In Much Ado About Nothing
A syndication of both tragedy and comedy, Much Ado About Nothing is one of William
Shakespeare s most loved comedies. The play was written in 1598 and was heavily influenced by
the trends of the Renaissance period. And in order to cater to the trend of growing optimism in the
Renaissance, Shakespeare wrote this light hearted comedy. Renaissance, literally meaning rebirth,
contributes to the scene where Hero is pronounced dead and then comes back to life. With
inspiration coming from the ancient Greek and Roman writing styles, Much Ado About Nothingis a
fine piece by Shakespeare. Carried by webs of misconceptions and misunderstandings, Shakespeare
brings the perfect balance between tragedy and comedy, making it a fitting introduction to his...

Affecting Emotions in the Workplace and Long Term Consequences Employees, particularly in
service industries, find themselves increasingly called upon to display positive emotions in the
workplace. Ashford and Humphrey (1993) define the act of displaying an emotion according to a
display rule as emotional labor (p. 90). According to Grandey (2003), research has shown that
positive affective displays, or expressing positive emotions, in service interactions, such as smiling
and conveying friendliness, are positively associated with important customer outcomes, such as
intention to return, intention to recommend a store to others, and perception of overall service
quality. Types of emotional displays include surface acting (modifying facial... Show more content

Socialization as part of the onboarding process and throughout an employee s career provides
examples and constant reminders of the affective displays that are desirable for the organization.
Finally, rewards and punishments provide the reinforcement needed to continually modify positive
and negative displays. Negative Long Term Effects According to Ang Chooi Hwa (2012)
emotional labor had both beneficial effects for the organization and negative effects on the
employee (p. 115). Montgomery et al. (2006) assert that emotionally demanding interactions can
mean less energy available for leisure and family involvement (p. 204). Additionally, Pines and
Aronson (as cited in Montgomery et al., 2006) affirm that emotionally demanding work situations
over long periods of time can lead to burnout, a state of exhaustion (p. 204). Burnout, as an overall
negative state, can be responsible for poor health and negative mental states. Hoschild (as cited in
Grandey, 2000) agrees that emotional labor is stressful and may result in burnout. However,
Grandey (2000) differentiates between surface acting and deep acting to determine that emotional
labor can have both positive and negative long term effects for the employee (p. 97 101). The
author further asserts that since surface acting is often equivalent to faking that it is the more
detrimental of the two, resulting in stressful experiences for the employee. This makes sense, since
it logical to assume that forcing oneself to

They could have made thousands by selling the album on iTunes, physical copies, vinyls etc.
And plus they are already fronted by a popular rapper so they wouldn t have a problem with

with Surf, they weren t looking for money. As you may remember, Chance announced the album
back late last fall and said that it would be released before the end of 2014. Some may have been
irritated at Chance for not keeping his word, but those people are so used to rappers that are
signed to labels issuing a deadline to maximize profits. Chance The Rapper is not one of those.
Chance The Rapper is a free rapper. Chance took those 6 months to make the music that him and
his friends were creating perfect. And not perfect for a record label, perfect for themselves.
Which is what every artist should be doing. The popular song Wanna Be Cool perfectly deciphers
this. It is about not wanting to be cool, but wanting to be yourself. Which (cheesy line
approaching) is the coolest fucking thing you can be. In the high school of hip hop. There are
many rappers out there that make music that isn t necessarily them. But what will maximize profits.

Yale students did rush away to get weapons and join the war in 1775. (Collier and Collier 214).
Sam was one of those Yale students who went to fight and among him, as explained in the previous
quote, were many others. Although Sam thought highly of leaving school to fight Eliphalet Meeker
felt otherwise. Eliphalet Meeker says to Sam, Now take off that uniform and go back to your
studies. We also see a clash of generations with the adults in Redding who are also against war. Mr.
Beach, the Pastor of the Anglican church in Redding, says, God meant man to obey. He meant
children to obey their fathers, he meant men to obey their kings. The constant argument between
the generations is whether or not the younger generations should even have any input when it came
to the war. This constant clash of generations was not only causing issues between Loyalists and
Patriots but also causing problems between the generations that comprise each side.
In My Brother Sam Is Dead by Collier and Collier the general argument between Eliphalet and Sam
has to do with Sam ideals of war and Eliphalet s realities of war. Sam says, It s not the money, it s
the principle. (Collier and Collier 21). Sam fights for his principle of freedom and the glory of war.

Casino Game Roulette
Roulette
Roulette is a casino game where The House or also known as the Dealer, rolls marbles around a
spinning circle that is slanted known as a roulette wheel. The wheel consists of 38 slots. The
marble rolls and will then eventually land on one of 38 red or black slots, numbered from 0 to 36
with there being two zeros. The idea of the game is to guess where it s going to land. The lower
the chance of you guessing right, the higher the possible payout can be. Everyone places their bets
on where they think the marble could possibly land. The dealer then closes the table to betting and
the marble is rolled.
There area couple possibilities for winning. You can guess the exact number the marble will land

Similarities Between Dark Ages And The Dark Ages
Classical Vs the Dark Ages If you were to compare how relations between city states were during

Let s compare the warfare of both periods, in the dark ages the Trojan war took place, the reason
we know that this possibly happened is from the epics that Homer wrote such as the Iliad. In the
Iliad, you have Achilles Anger which followed a Greek hero Achilles. He was a role model to all
Greek soldiers at the time so we can only assume many soldiers shared the inclinations towards
war (spoils, glory, honor), soldier s perspective on the king (unjustly laying claim to larger
amounts of spoils of war), and camaraderie among soldiers (Achilles reaction to the death of his
friend). This is a very personal point of view on the soldiers that fought that war. We can only
assume that much of the wars fought were chaos, and fought one on one with small major fights
throughout. Then we have the The Melian Dialogue, which was written during the classical period
of Greece about Athenian and the Melians. In short, the Athenians were encroaching on the island
of Melos, a colony of Lacedaemon that would not submit to Athens like other island states. The
Melians refuse to give up their freedom for the sake of survival, Athenians lay siege on the island
and eventually forced surrender. Then Athenians killed all the grown men, sold off the women and
children to slavery, and colonized the island with 500

The Ideology of Pakistan was the consciousness of the Muslims in the historical perspective of the

Allama Iqbal said in relation to Islam:

A very popular technique used in propaganda is plain folk. This is a technique when advertising
makes the average American citizen feel he can relate to the people in the advertisement. For
instance, an advertisement in Men s Health depicted a family camping trip with a honorable father
smoking while singing around a campfire to his kids. Also, an additional promotion that was found
in this magazine was a healthy in shape man smoking. This is an unrealistic situation for healthy
and well respected fathers. Another way people are shielded from the negative reality of tobacco
use is through celebrities. This is called testimonial techniques of propaganda. Testimonial
technique is an extremely important and controversial method. This technique is when a celebrity
or notorious person gimmicks people into the product by making it seem better because they use it
or promote it. One example of this is Emmit Smith using chewing tobacco. His slogan, Pinch
between your cheek and gums , is catchy and appealing to football fans. This is a extremely
unhealthy promotion for young athletes. The catch with a testimonial technique is it might appear
as though the celebrity enjoys a product when in reality he/she has never touched it.
The last technique of propaganda is Bandwagon. The bandwagon technique makes people feel like
they should go along with the crowd. This technique usually succeeds because most people have a

The Cultural Analysis On The Maasai
To fully comprehend the connection between cultural, environmental, and increasingly globalized
forces on the Maasai, we must first understand the concept behind all of these factors about human
society as a whole. Starting with the way humans acclimate to the environment around them and
how the way the environment affects the progress and functions of a culture. The societies that are
living in much more dangerous circumstances of climate face a more perplexing means of
survival just as the Inuit people who are from the northern part of Canada or even pastoralist
societies in dry East Africa. Finishing the conversation of theory with a clarification of the
struggles over ownership of land that is shaped by the growing effects of conservation and
globalization. The theory part follows the Maasaiand the cultural analysis in specific. The cultural
analysis on the Maasai involves four notions that are necessary to understand the full
comprehension about the effects of globalization that have had an effect on Maasai culture and the
neighboring environment. By first evaluating the difference between the Maasai s traditional

Adversity Negative Effects
Intro: Adversity; misfortune, disaster and trauma. We have seen adversity on both the major and
minor levels of the past, present and in fiction. We often see in all aspects the negatives that
adversity leads to. So this begs the question, does adversity lead to growth? We see adversity from
the Columbian exchange through growing populations and new technology. In the New York
Times article by Andrew E. Kramer, one reads about the financial growth Russiafaces after a long
time of recession. Likewise, in Catherine Hyde s Pay it Forward One will read about the
emotional and mental growth people have after Trevor dies which essentially causes the movement
to flourish. We see adversity everywhere in life, and although there are many negative
consequences that go along with adversity, eventually, it will lead to development and a rise in
success.
The Columbian exchange had many moving parts to it, however, a largely known negative impact
was the massive fatalities diseases spread by trade and exploration had on both Europeans and
native societies; these massive epidemics slowly brought growth to the world. The Columbian
Exchange by Alfred W. Crosby, is an article that shows the statistics and impacts that the
Columbian exchange had on those who lived during it, as well as the people who came
generations after. Crosby explains how these diseases impacted Native Americans by saying,Qte 1:
Smallpox was the worst and most spectacular of the infectious diseases mowing down the

The Major Developments of Early Human and Social Evolution
Describe the major developments of early human and social evolution. Throughout, discuss tool
manufacturing, language development, agriculture, social behavior, and population growth. The
first tools developed during the Paleolithic Era were made from chipped stones, wood and bone,
and nets from plant fibers and animal sinew (Holt, Rinehart, Wilson, n.d.: 2). The Neolithic Era
brought forth greater specialization. People began to make chisels, drills, and saws to address
specific needs and also polished stones to create sharper and more defined points (Holt, Rinehart,
Wilson, n.d.: 2). Language scholars trace the development of the first forms of systematized
language to this era: The crucial evolutionary development that led to the burst in creativity in the
Neolithic was the emergence of human language as a method for integrating across cognitive
modules (MacWhinney 2005: 383). During this era, the use of stones began to have a utilitarian
purpose in a manner that showed more sophisticated thinking. The most significant development
during the Neolithic Era was the development of agriculture. This occurred approximately 10,000
years ago in human history. Humans began to domesticate animals and engage in selective
breeding. With the end of the Ice Age, new plants became available and were cultivated to provide
a more stable food source than hunting and gathering. Humans began to domesticate plants as well.
People had long observed wild plants as they gathered

File Sharing And The Internet
File Sharing
I d like to propose another toast to you, the listener. It doesn t matter how you got this, you bought
it, you downloaded it, and your grandma gave it to you. (Jones). Chances are anybody who has ever
used the internet has downloaded copyrighted material. Many people view downloading
copyrighted material from the internet as stealing, but others see it as a distribution of human
knowledge and information. File sharing, more formally known today as torrents, should be legal.
File sharing is only illegal if the material that is being distributed is copyrighted. Even then if the
creator of the content chooses to distribute their material in this format it is also legal. Companies
argue that the unwanted sharing of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Floppy disks had shrunk down to their final format which was three and a half inches. In 1992
floppy disk piracy was so popular that a campaign called Don t Copy That Floppy started (Smith).
The campaign mainly featured little white kids rapping about floppy disks.
The controversy which defined file sharing for this period surrounded one file format the mp3
(Smith). In the late 1990s, Napster, a web service that provided mp3 files to people who paid a
small subscription fee, was founded and was known for hosting a large amount of mp3 files that
anybody could download. That same year a service called Audiogalaxy was created as well. The
two sites had friendly competitions to see who could get more web traffic and downloads. Napster
was shut down due to copyright infringement in 2001. Audiogalaxy closed soon after due to
pressure caused by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) and was sold to Vivendi
Universal, a company that would later turn the service into Rhapsody.
In the same year that Napster was shut down, Windows released its new software version which
would replace Windows 98. Windows XP, released in 2001, included a feature called Simple File
Sharing which made it easy for Windows users to file shares among computers on a local network.
(Smith). In simpler terms, if one family used more than one computer in their household they could
get any file from one computer to another.

Reflection Paper On Powerpoint
Learning about PowerPoint has been very stimulating for me; unit five has taught me a lot. I love
to use Microsoft PowerPoint, but until this unit, I did not fully understand how to use all of the
functions in Microsoft PowerPoint. I love the whole unit, so singling out three things will be hard
for me. I work as a Manager, and I am often preparing presentations. The three items in Microsoft
PowerPointthat I know I will apply to my everyday life are, Notes, Numbered list, and Charts. I
think through the whole unit these features were the ones that made me say, ok I will use that
for my upcoming presentation. Below I will explain why I chose each one of these functions.
First, I chose the Notes Function. The note section was a big deal for me. I usually write my
notes down in a notebook before my presentations. The problem I ran into was, I would always
get lost. I tried putting little symbols at the bottom of the page for talking points. The problem
here was, I could never remember what the talking point was about once I got to the symbol.
When I tried Microsoft PowerPoint Notes, I found I was no longer fumbling between papers
(Carlson, 2010). I loved it because I just stood and clicked no more papers. The Notes function
allows you to put information on the slides that you want to share that the audience cannot see
(Wiley Sons Inc, 2014). Notes are now my new Favorite function of the week. Second, The Charts
function is essential and vitally important to my

Holden Caulfield Red Hunting Hat Theme
he theme of perpetuating childhood innocence is very important to Holden Caulfield and the
book. The significance of this theme is so great, it is manifested into Holden s red hunting hat.
The reason why the red hunting hat is linked to the book so much is because of its unusuality.
Holden got the hat from a store in New York for a dollar, but he never goes hunting or anything
of the sort. Its purpose is to remind him of innocence; Allie and Phoebe s red hair or even as a
blankie. In childhood, the blankie is used as a comfort thing it is something warm, familiar, and
can protect against monsters. Holden s reluctance to become an adult and his adversities force
him into using the hunting hat as a way to cope. Holden is the victim of the world, but he doesn
t do much to mitigate the damage. School is an example of his hardships since he cannot
comply with the phoniness of the school. Despite his own facade, Holden desperately wishes to
fit into the crowd. Since Holden does not fit in and does not pass his classes he must leave Pencey
Prep. Holden visited the only teacher he liked, Mr. Spencer, and recalls that Mr. Spencer is the kind
of person who could get a big bang out of buying a blanket (23). He said... Show more content on

She puts the hunting hat back on Holden s head as a sign of forgiveness. Holden was upset that
Phoebe was more mature and exposed to the world than he thought she would be. She was no
longer pure and the hat had lost its power temporarily. The fluidity of the hat s purpose, to
remind Holden of innocence, made it the picturesque scene. Holden was wearing the hat when
Phoebe was riding on the merry go round and he damn near bawled his eyes out . She was still
pure even though she was experienced with the harshness of the world. Holden gained the
knowledge that you can still be happy without being phony and you do not need to grow up as in

Existential Anxiety Via Self Preservation Essay
Ashley Martinez Professor Steven Adisasmito Smith Modern World Literature 12 December 2016
Existential Anxiety via Self Preservation To a man utterly without a sense of belonging, mere life is
all that matters. It is the only reality in an eternity of nothingness, and he clings to it with shameless
despair. ― Eric Hoffer In its most basic definition, an existential crisis occurs when a person
feels out of touch with their place in the world. They question why they are here as well as what
determines their leaving. In Leo Tolstoy s Hadji Murat and Wole Soyinka s Death and the King
s Horseman, two characters experience a similar reaction after failing to conform to societal
expectations. For example, in Hadji Murat, the titular character s shifting allegiance depends on
whatever is in the best interest of his family. He initially rejects his community leader s request
for him to join the ghazavat or holy war against the Russians (Tolstoy 335 464). After this
refusal, Hadji Murat pledges his allegiance to the latter whether he can actually be trusted or not
is an entirely differently matter (Tolstoy 335 464). In Wole Soyinka s Death and the King s
Horseman, we have Elesin Oba, a character who fails to follow his king in death because he still
wishes to remain in the realm of the living (1049 1078). However, based on existential theory, their
existential crises manifest themselves in four different ways. That being said, a closer

Opportunity to see life from a different perspective We tend to associate with people who are

Bogeyman Descriptive Writing
Darkness The small pieces of gravel cut deep into my skin as I skidded along the ground away
from the cabin. I gave the figure standing in the darkness of the doorway a vicious glance. I felt
the pain growing on my knees and my cheek. My bright blue eyes started to fill with tears and
what was my sleek, smooth brown hair was messed up and dirty. I was always teased for my fear
of the bogeyman and the dark. I got my fear when something was moving under my bed in the
middle of the night and my brother said it was the bogeyman. So ever since I have been petrified
at night of the bogeyman. When I arrived to camp my class had the talk. The don t feed the

close they became feral monsters. I ran for my life. They started to chase me from on top of the

The Political Definition Of Fascism
For the average citizen of a nation, the political definition of fascism and even the word itself
has been left out of people s everyday vernacular. The most recent extent of fascism that people
can remember is Adolf Hitler s era of political control over seventy two years. In recent decades,
however, European Countries and even the United States of America have seen a recent rise in
fascist leaning ideologies and political parties due in part to online development, Immigration and
elections trends, and a paradoxical view of tolerance. These recent trends have signaled that fascism
is still a problem and presents a clear danger to society and democratic principles at large. While
the general ideology was technically developed by Italian Dictator and ally to Hitler, Benito
Mussolini, it is Adolf Hitler himself who is best known as the face of fascist movements of the
past and movements today. In early 1930 s Germany, Hitler was able to capitalize on the social
and economic woes of a country who felt disenfranchised and left behind by the world. By
promoting ideas of German nationalism including a strong German military, a strong pure
German culture and nation, and using minority groups such as the Jew s as a scapegoat, Hitler
was able to take control of Germany and institute a Fascist system of government and create the
similar ideological trends we see in Fascist idea s and similar groups today. Today fascism as an
ideology and movements linked with fascism

What Is The Organizational Structure Of Nike
The most important thing to analyze is to understand how a company implements its strategy and
how it is able to create a competitive advantage thanks to the organizational design, the set of
choices regarding the combination and the allocation of the resources and the activities inside the
company.
To pursue the strategy, the secret is to create and implement an optimal organizational structure. In
the Nike case, due to its wide scale of businesses, the company has developed a strong and effective
structure that ensures continuous innovation and improvement.
During the 80, the company s structure aspect changed, going from a general manager orientation
to a matrix model, with the focus on functional and divisional dimensions. It is thus geographically
divided to facilitate the regionalization of the business strategy. The main purpose of this kind of...

Impact Of Globalization On The Global Economy
Over the last number of years, it could be said that the growth in the global economy has increased
a vast amount and is rapidly continuing in this direction. The world as we know it is now
becoming progressively more connected through a process called Globalisation. Grossman and
Helpman (1993) say that there are two main trends too which are key contributors that help make
up this process of globalisation. The first of these being the advancement in technology innovations
and secondly following this the idea that nations in the world are becoming more open, however
also more independent. To continue from this, a third trend suggested by Bates (2010) is now a
recognition that educationat all levels is now a global service industry. In addition to this, Jeffery S
(2002) implies that Globalisation s extensive definition could be a disguised title to a great deal of
underlying issues and therefore could be a buzzword that is being frequently used to describe
current world situations to do with trade lines between countries, a freer movement of capital goods
and services and a general more all round greater dependence on the global economy including
education. Burbules and Torres (2000) suggest that the change in dynamics through globalisation
would therefore have a further cause for concern on people involved in the educational endeavour.

education plays within this with

Hero My Mom
The Super Hero I Call Mom
My mother occupies a special place in my heart that can never be replaced. She became pregnant
with me at the age of nineteen. Being a young, single mother, she had to overcome difficult
obstacles to get us to where we are today. Life was tough and there were many times where she
just wanted to give up, but she was determined to turn her life around for the better. She ingrained a
lifetime worth of advice into my head but it was her actions that taught me that the struggles I will
face now will make me stronger in the end.
As a senior in high school, my mother was the colonel of the drill team and was preparing for
college when life threw a major curve ball her way. Once she realized she was pregnant with me,
she had to change her lifestyle entirely. With no support, financially or emotionally from my
father, my mother had to do it all on her own. This greatly affected my mother because even to
this day she is still playing a role as both a mother and father figure, and has never complained or
failed to follow through with any of her responsibilities. Raising me was especially hard for my
mother because she lacked financial stability. There were times when she didn t even have enough
money for a bottle of formula. Her parents allowed her to stay at home with them but she was
required to pay rent in exchange for my grandmother babysitting me while she worked as
receptionist at a local chemical plant.
Working at the chemical plant and seeing her

By isolating lactate dehydrogenase from a homogenized chicken breast from a local marker, further examination of kinetics was able to be seen. Three tests were ran over a course of four weeks, which involved ldDEAE fractions as well as Affinity fractions. Gel electrophoresis was used to check the purity of the LDH and it was found that the purification was performed successfully. The two nations have had no diplomatic relations since 1961. One may ask how beneficial for the US to conjoin forces with Cuba? Improving relations with Cuba will benefit American Government because of what it can learn about health care, disaster preparedness, tourism and Trade. On March 20, 2016 President Obama arrived in Havana, Cuba with his family. It has been more than eighty years since a sitting U.S. president has visited Cuba. The range of suicidal ideation varies greatly from fleeting to detailed planning, role playing, and unsuccessful attempts, which may be deliberately constructed to fail or be discovered, or may be fully intended to result in death. Although most people who undergo suicidal ideation do not go on to make suicideattempts, a significant proportion do.[1] Suicidal ideation is generally associated with depression; however, it seems to have associations with many other psychiatric disorders, life events, and family events, all of which may increase the risk of suicidal ideation. Among this subset, a sub subset may find that the medication alleviates their physiological symptoms (such as lack of energy) and secondary psychological symptoms (e.g., lack of motivation) before or at lower doses than it alleviates their primary psychological symptom of depressed mood. Among this group of persons, the desire for suicide and/or its effects persists even as major obstacles to suicidal action are removed, with the effect that the incidences of suicide attempt and of completed suicide increase.[citation needed] Life events Life events are strong predictors of increased risk for suicidal ideation. The presentation put emphasis on the law and systems in dealing with domestic violence. Included also in the lecture, was the analysis of protection orders and police interference. Protection orders are in practice for the urgent safety of the victims of domestic violence. They are applied for through the family court with evidence of domestic violence or potential danger (Morden, 2016). The lecture also demonstrated that the law does not tolerate even single acts of abuse and takes procedures very seriously. The various acts are in place and are continually improving to protect New Zealanders that may be in danger of abuse. The first reading, Gender bias, fathers rights, domestic violence and the Family court , argues that laws regarding domestic violence are bias towards men. This accusation is supported by the accessibility that women have to use or misuse protection orders. The law gives women the opportunity to give themselves immediate custody over their children and property (Davis Powell, 2004). The gender bias against men is also given credibility by the large proportion of fathers denied access to their children at all. However, this legislation has proved to be positive as the majority of cases prove that danger is most prominent when the partner leaves the abuser. So, the cluster technology is becoming the core of text mining. Clustering is an important form of data mining. Clustering is a process of grouping similar sets of data into a group, called clusters. This paper comprises of text clustering algorithms, also analysis and comparison of the algorithms are done with respect to the applicable scope, the initial parameters , size of dataset, accuracy, dimensionality, cluster shape and noise sensitivity. Algorithms are classified as partitioned based clustering, hierarchical clustering, density based , self organizing maps and fuzzy clustering techniques. The brief idea of each clustering technique is mentioned in this paper. Keywords Clustering, Data mining, partition based clustering, hierarchical based clustering, density based clustering. I. INTRODUCTION Wide range of data is collected in different databases because of advanced techniques of data collection. The demand for grouping the valuable data and extracting only the useful information from data is increased. Clustering is the distribution of data into groups of identical objects which has similarity within the cluster and dissimilarity with the objects in the other groups [2]. The socio cultural cognitive theory of Lev Vygotsky emphasizes children s cognitive development cannot be understood apart from cultural settings, and social interactions and activities shape their ways to construct knowledge (Jahoda, Dagnan, Stenfert Kroese, Pert, Trower, 2009; Santrock, Mackenzie Rivers, Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016). The notion of the zone of proximal development(ZPD) is a well known concept of his theoretical framework (Santrock, Mackenzie Rivers, Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016; Ylvisaker Feeney, 2009). In the follow paragraphs, I will brief explain this concept, clarify how it closely relates to individual daily life, and discuss the limit of this notion with reflect on my personal experience. Vygotsky s concept of ZPD refers to the range of difficulties which children are unable to master alone, but they could solve independently if adults or more mature peers provide the appropriate support (Jahoda, Dagnan, Stenfert Kroese, Pert, Trower, 2009; Santrock, Mackenzie Rivers, Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016). In teaching, the ZPD typifies the theoretical space between what students already knew and what students are not ready to learn (Santrock, Mackenzie Rivers, Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016). Two borders of this space are represented as the lower limit of ZPD (e.g. the difficulties which children are able to master alone, what students already knew), and the upper limit of ... The real cost of war is so great that the thought of paying the price is rather unfathomable. In My Brother Sam Is Dead by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier we get a glimpse into the lives of not only the Meekers but the people of their town and we observe the price they paid for one of the biggest and most powerful wars of our American history, The American Revolution. Sam was one of those Yale students who went to fight and among him, as explained in the previous quote, were many others. Although Sam thought highly of leaving school to fight Eliphalet Meeker felt otherwise. Eliphalet Meeker says to Sam, Now take off that uniform and go back to your studies. He meant children to obey their fathers, he meant men to obey their kings. The constant argument between the generations is whether or not the younger generations should even have any input when it came to the war. This constant clash of generations was not only causing issues between Loyalists and Patriots but also causing problems between the generations that comprise each side. In My Brother Sam Is Dead by Collier and Collier the general argument between Eliphalet and Sam has to do with Sam ideals of war and Eliphalet s realities of war. You would come along a lot of differences and some similarities that might shock you, they sure did me. You can find differences and similarities in many aspects of their civilization: politics, culture, warfare, and economics. The dark ages of Greece lacked writing so a lot of what we know is indirect. Such as Achilles Anger excerpt from the Iliad gives a pretty good in depth look at the dark ages. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Let s compare the warfare of both periods, in the dark ages the Trojan war took place, the reason we know that this possibly happened is from the epics that Homer wrote such as the Iliad. In the Iliad, you have Achilles Anger which followed a Greek hero Achilles. He was a role model to all Greek soldiers at the time so we can only assume many soldiers shared the inclinations towards war (spoils, glory, honor), soldier s perspective on the king (unjustly laying claim to larger amounts of spoils of war), and camaraderie among soldiers (Achilles reaction to the death of his friend). This is a very personal point of view on the soldiers that fought that war. We can only assume that much of the wars fought were chaos, and fought one on one with small major fights throughout. Then we have the The Melian Dialogue, which was written during the classical period of Greece about Athenian and the Melians. In short, the Athenians were encroaching on the island of Melos, a colony of Lacedaemon that would not submit to Athens like other island states. The Melians refuse to give up their freedom for the sake of survival, Athenians lay siege on the island and eventually forced surrender. We often see in all aspects the negatives that adversity leads to. So this begs the question, does adversity lead to growth? We see adversity from the Columbian exchange through growing populations and new technology. In the New York Times article by Andrew E. Likewise, in Catherine Hyde s Pay it Forward One will read about the emotional and mental growth people have after Trevor dies which essentially causes the movement to flourish. Throughout, discuss tool manufacturing, language development, agriculture, social behavior, and population growth. The first tools developed during the Paleolithic Era were made from chipped stones, wood and bone, and nets from plant fibers and animal sinew (Holt, Rinehart, Wilson, n.d.: 2). The Neolithic Era brought forth greater specialization. People began to make chisels, drills, and saws to address specific needs and also polished stones to create sharper and more defined points (Holt, Rinehart, Wilson, n.d.: 2). Language scholars trace the development of the first forms of systematized language to this era: The crucial evolutionary development that led to the burst in creativity in the Neolithic was the emergence of human language as a method for integrating across cognitive modules (MacWhinney 2005: 383). During this era, the use of stones began to have a utilitarian purpose in a manner that showed more sophisticated thinking. The most significant development during the Neolithic Era was the development of agriculture. This occurred approximately 10,000 years ago in human history. • 51. Existential Anxiety Via Self Preservation Essay Ashley Martinez Professor Steven Adisasmito Smith Modern World Literature 12 December 2016 Existential Anxiety via Self Preservation To a man utterly without a sense of belonging, mere life is all that matters. It is the only reality in an eternity of nothingness, and he clings to it with shameless despair. ― Eric Hoffer In its most basic definition, an existential crisis occurs when a person feels out of touch with their place in the world. They question why they are here as well as what determines their leaving. In Leo Tolstoy s Hadji Murat and Wole Soyinka s Death and the King s Horseman, two characters experience a similar reaction after failing to conform to societal expectations. For example, in Hadji Murat, the titular character s shifting allegiance depends on whatever is in the best interest of his family. He initially rejects his community leader s request for him to join the ghazavat or holy war against the Russians (Tolstoy 335 464). After this refusal, Hadji Murat pledges his allegiance to the latter whether he can actually be trusted or not is an entirely differently matter (Tolstoy 335 464). In Wole Soyinka s Death and the King s Horseman, we have Elesin Oba, a character who fails to follow his king in death because he still wishes to remain in the realm of the living (1049 1078). No amount of reading or watching world cinema can give you a different take on life the way travel does. And who knows, maybe its a life you feel you belong to than your life back ... • 53. Bogeyman Descriptive Writing Darkness The small pieces of gravel cut deep into my skin as I skidded along the ground away from the cabin. I gave the figure standing in the darkness of the doorway a vicious glance. I felt the pain growing on my knees and my cheek. My bright blue eyes started to fill with tears and what was my sleek, smooth brown hair was messed up and dirty. I was always teased for my fear of the bogeyman and the dark. I got my fear when something was moving under my bed in the middle of the night and my brother said it was the bogeyman. So ever since I have been petrified at night of the bogeyman. When I arrived to camp my class had the talk. The don t feed the animals, no walking around at night. The thing they say every year but I didn t... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I thought it was a good idea but I was wrong that bush was poison ivy as a frantically wiped my nose with the leaves I realised that. My nose started swelling with such speed I could only see from the sides away from the nose. My screams attracted a black and white figure. I started to scream even louder It was the bogeyman I thought. I was terrified the figure was so scary it could scare the wings off a fly. Then I heard a noise that no bogeyman would make, a noise that a raccoon makes. Raccoons I thought, why are they after me. They looked cute at first then up close they became feral monsters. I ran for my life. They started to chase me from on top of the old dying trees I felt a stone hit the top of my head. The raccoons were dropping things on my head, on the bright side, I thought at least these aren t monkeys, they would be throwing something else. I could hear a creek in the distance. If I ran to it I could dive in and they lose my scent. As the gushing water became louder I noticed how long I had been out here it was almost pitch black. I could see the river flowing towards the camp, I jumped in to the river. It chilled me to the bone. Then as my head popped out of the water I could see the majestic sun rise. And with the night my fear was now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. The Political Definition Of Fascism For the average citizen of a nation, the political definition of fascism and even the word itself has been left out of people s everyday vernacular. The most recent extent of fascism that people can remember is Adolf Hitler s era of political control over seventy two years. In recent decades, however, European Countries and even the United States of America have seen a recent rise in fascist leaning ideologies and political parties due in part to online development, Immigration and elections trends, and a paradoxical view of tolerance. These recent trends have signaled that fascism is still a problem and presents a clear danger to society and democratic principles at large. While the general ideology was technically developed by Italian Dictator and ally to Hitler, Benito Mussolini, it is Adolf Hitler himself who is best known as the face of fascist movements of the past and movements today. In early 1930 s Germany, Hitler was able to capitalize on the social and economic woes of a country who felt disenfranchised and left behind by the world. By promoting ideas of German nationalism including a strong German military, a strong pure German culture and nation, and using minority groups such as the Jew s as a scapegoat, Hitler was able to take control of Germany and institute a Fascist system of government and create the similar ideological trends we see in Fascist idea s and similar groups today. Today fascism as an ideology and movements linked with fascism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 56. What Is The Organizational Structure Of Nike The most important thing to analyze is to understand how a company implements its strategy and how it is able to create a competitive advantage thanks to the organizational design, the set of choices regarding the combination and the allocation of the resources and the activities inside the company. To pursue the strategy, the secret is to create and implement an optimal organizational structure. In the Nike case, due to its wide scale of businesses, the company has developed a strong and effective structure that ensures continuous innovation and improvement. • 57. Impact Of Globalization On The Global Economy Over the last number of years, it could be said that the growth in the global economy has increased a vast amount and is rapidly continuing in this direction. The world as we know it is now becoming progressively more connected through a process called Globalisation. Grossman and Helpman (1993) say that there are two main trends too which are key contributors that help make up this process of globalisation. The first of these being the advancement in technology innovations and secondly following this the idea that nations in the world are becoming more open, however also more independent. To continue from this, a third trend suggested by Bates (2010) is now a recognition that educationat all levels is now a global service industry. In addition to this, Jeffery S (2002) implies that Globalisation s extensive definition could be a disguised title to a great deal of underlying issues and therefore could be a buzzword that is being frequently used to describe current world situations to do with trade lines between countries, a freer movement of capital goods and services and a general more all round greater dependence on the global economy including education. Burbules and Torres (2000) suggest that the change in dynamics through globalisation would therefore have a further cause for concern on people involved in the educational endeavour. This essay will look at international developmentpast and present and will discuss the crucial role education plays within this with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 58. Hero My Mom The Super Hero I Call Mom My mother occupies a special place in my heart that can never be replaced. She became pregnant with me at the age of nineteen. Being a young, single mother, she had to overcome difficult obstacles to get us to where we are today. Life was tough and there were many times where she just wanted to give up, but she was determined to turn her life around for the better. She ingrained a lifetime worth of advice into my head but it was her actions that taught me that the struggles I will face now will make me stronger in the end. As a senior in high school, my mother was the colonel of the drill team and was preparing for college when life threw a major curve ball her way. Once she realized she was pregnant with me, she had to change her lifestyle entirely. With no support, financially or emotionally from my father, my mother had to do it all on her own. This greatly affected my mother because even to this day she is still playing a role as both a mother and father figure, and has never complained or failed to follow through with any of her responsibilities. Raising me was especially hard for my mother because she lacked financial stability. There were times when she didn t even have enough money for a bottle of formula. Her parents allowed her to stay at home with them but she was required to pay rent in exchange for my grandmother babysitting me while she worked as receptionist at a local chemical plant. Working at the chemical plant and seeing her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
