Quoting Paraphrasing Vs Summarizing
What is the difference between quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing?
What type of citation is required for each? Why is properly citing sources important?
What are the possible consequences of improperly citing references?
In most writing the content and ideas are not always your own.
There for it is important to give credit to the original source of your writing.
You can do this by quoting, paraphrasing or summarizing the original text in which you obtained
the ideas for your writing. Properly citing you re source is necessary when using one of these three
ways of incorporation.
Failing to cite the original text is a dishonest writing technique and can result in discipline. Quoting
is one way to give thoughts that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paraphrasing can be described as using another s ideas and putting it in your own words. Often a
shorter version still including most details. When summarizing you are taking a lot of
information from a source using the main ideas and putting in less words , by leaving out more
of the detail. To properly cite a source you must follow one of several formats. Purdue online
writing lab says(1995 2018) APA format is the most common in U.S social science. There are
two citations that must be made, an in text reference and a reference page at the end of your work
that includes all resources. In text citing needs to include the author and year of publication, when
quoting work also include the page number of the quote. An additional page at the end of your
work titled references must include all sources. This should have the title and or website of the
text, the author and publication year as well. Always put the authors last name first and in the case
that there is more than one author out then in alphabetical order. It is important to do your research
to properly cite the sources to give credit to the original author and avoid

Islm Curve
Understanding Equilibrium in the IS/LM Model 1995 version Prof. Humberto Barreto1
Introduction: This brief work is designed to provide additional ammunition for the student in the
ongoing war against IS/LM confusion and ignorance. The author has claimed in his Notes on
Macroeconomic Theory (1995) that, There should be no mystery or uncertainty surrounding the IS
/LM analysis at this point. IS/LM curves are simply a short cut to finding the equilibrium values for
income and interest rate. There are two equations and two unknownsГ‘what simpler strategy than to
put them on one graph could be devised? (p. 52) The author still worries, however, that the student
is memorizing the equilibrium condition, IS=LM generates Ye, without really... Show more content

The student should see that the existing values of i and Y will have a tendency to change. The
interest rate will fall because there is a shortage of bonds and as the price of bonds rises to drive
the bond market to equilibrium, the interest rate will fall. The equilibrium interest rate, of course,
will be found at the intersection of the Ms and Md schedules. Output will increase because a
falling interest rate will trigger higher investment expenditures by firms. The increased I will
increase AD and, therefore, Ye will increase. But then the higher income will shift money demand
up, which will increase the equilibrium interest rate, and the same chain will be triggered leading
to a decrease in the equilibrium level of output. The student undoubtedly knows that, eventually,
after running through a series of converging loops, the system will settle into a mutually
compatible, or general equilibrium, combination of i and Y. If you think the iteration process is a
messy and cumbersome means of calculating the general equilibrium, or final, resting place of i
and Y, you should applaud the use of the IS/LM graph. In one quick graph, we can immediately
and easily see the system s general equilibrium solution. From our initial i0, Y0 combination, the
IS/LM graph allows us to instantly see the final solution and to predict a decrease in interest rates
and increase in output. However, a drawback is that it does not show how or why

Essay on Juvenile Death Penalty
A 16 year old boy is at the peak of their adolescent life, learning and discovering about puberty,
maturity, right and wrong and future life goals. On the other hand, a man of 25 has matured, lived
long enough to have made both good and bad judgments and has already been in the process of
achieving those life goals they once thought of as a teenager. In a given situation, is it ethical to
hold these two age groups, with mentalities that are worlds apart, to the same standards and
punishments in the justice system? Until Roper v. Simmonsin 2005, the justice system did just that,
treat the actions of 16 year old with the same consequences as if they had been committed by an
adult. In Roper v. Simmons the United States Supreme Court declared... Show more content on

Is it then ethical to sentence a person with undeveloped reasoning and thinking skills to the death
penalty if they cannot fully comprehend the consequences of their actions? If adolescents are being
considered to have diminished reasoning and thinking skills, how then do they compare the
mentally ill? Do the same standards apply? If so, then the case of Atkins v. Virginia, in which it was
declared by the U.S. Supreme Court that the mentally handicapped would not be sentenced to the
death penalty, would be essential to the cause opposing juvenile death penalty. It is not denied that
these juveniles have committed horrendous crimes and should be held accountable for their actions,
but certain mitigating circumstances negate the need for a death penalty.
In the United Sates, the first juvenile death penalty recorded occurred in 1642 of a minor under
the age of 18 and the youngest person ever given the death penalty was ten year old James Arcene
in 1885 for robbery and murder (Strater, 1994 1995). By 1994 there were only 9 states, among
which were New Jersey, Kansas, and Maryland, that prohibited the death penalties for juveniles. In
2003 the number of states permitting capital punishment declined to 21, a number of them allowing
this punishment to those as young as 16 (Steinberg Scott, 2003). Since the days of the first juvenile
execution approximately 362 more juveniles have been

Corporate Transparency And Efficient Resource Allocation
Introduction A successful organization depends on a solid strategic plan that includes how it
intends to handle transparency. In his article, (Champy, 2008) emphasizes several principles he
discovered while researching organizations for his book, the one that resonates with both my
personal and professional life is to be completely open and transparent. He further goes on to outline
the needs of a culture that embraces and values transparency. Indeed, many experts and
professionals agree that corporate transparency and efficient resource allocationare closely related.
The transparency, or essentially the clear picture, as it relates to resource allocation allows
organizations to regularly direct their assets in the right directions, making it easier for them to be
allocated in more productive and useful areas of the organization. The rationale for this strategy is
fairly simple; having a clear picture means additional assurance for the investing parties Francis et
al., (2009). Using the roadmaps created from the strategic plan, smart leaders easily figure out the
risks involved, and take necessary measures to eliminate or ameliorate them. Similarly,
organizational transparency on a whole is equally important for all the organization s stakeholders,
especially potential investors. This allows investors to easily weigh their options by evaluating any
critical information, and also the fact that the doings of the organizations are there to be seen by
everyone

Functions Of Effective Internal Control System
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
Banks occupy a critical position in a complex financial system that supplies the money and credit
needs of the economy. The unique characteristic of a commercial bank is that it also creates money,
and it is this particular feature of the commercial banks which distinguishes them from non banking
financial institution. Banks ability to promote growth and development depends on the extent to
which financial transactions are conducted with trust and less risk. If the foundation on which a bank
(s) are built lack institutional, government and above all public confidence, such a bank may
collapse. So therefore, it is essential that every single bank must have an internal control system
were the internal audit department makes sure that their accounting principles provide an effective
means of recording and reporting monetary transactions, providing organisation information and
securing the company s asset from fraud and misappropriation (Achibong, 1993).
BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY A system of effective internal control is a critical component of
all banks management and a foundation for the safe and sound operation of banking organizations
system. Strong internal controls can help to certify that the aims and purposes of banking
organisations will be met; the banks will achieve lasting cost effective goals and keep dependable
monetary and administrative reporting systems. Such a structure can also help to make sure that
the bank will act in

What Are The Causes Of Hate Crimes
A hate crime or bias motivated crime occurs when the perpetrator of the crime intentionally selects
the victim because of who the victim is. While an act of violence against any individual is always a
tragic event, violent crimes based on prejudice have a much stronger impact because the motive
behind the crimeis to terrorize an entire group or community. Since the dawn of humanity, people
have had to judge things based on limited prior knowledge for many occasions from what style is
in all the way to what group of people they choose to massacre.
Even though the Supreme Court s ruling has brought marriage equality to all 50 states, 31 states
still lack clear, fully inclusive non discrimination protections for LGBT citizens. This means that
despite the ruling, LGBT Americans can get legally married but still be at risk of being denied
services for who they are or risk being fired simply for getting married and wearing their wedding
ring to the office the next day. Discrimination is a real and persistent problem for too many LGBT
Americans. Nearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is not the frequency or number of these crimes, however, that set them apart from other types of
crime. It is the impact these crimes have on the victims, their families, their communities and, in
some instances, the entire country. Recently, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Local
Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act. It specifically gives the Justice Department the
power to investigate and prosecute bias motivated violence by providing it with jurisdiction over
crimes of violence where the victim was selected because of his or her actual or perceived race,
color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability. Once this
measure wins full congressional approval and the president signs it into law, heinous crimes will be

Overt Racism In Australia
Matthew Rawlings20112410Nationalism, Ethnicity, Race Essay
Instead of an overt racism that rejects individuals who do not fit into an existing Anglo Australian
template, contemporary racism relies on fear politics permeating heightened popular nationalism.
Discuss.
As we enter the 21st century, complex issues such as terrorism, immigration, multiculturalism, and
social cohesion have brought about a significant amount controversy and an abundance of emotive
rhetoric within Australian society. The fact that these issues have been politicised around a number
of elections has bought these matters to the forefront of public discussion, but rather than appealing

The growing number of displaced persons arising out of the Syrian Civil War in 2011 has become a
significant humanitarian crisis on a global scale, with several countries granting asylum to a
number of those effected. On the 9th of September 2015, the Australian Government announced
that it will make an extra 12,000 humanitarian places available in response to the conflicts in Syria
and Iraq, granting them a permanent visa. Australia has been largely criticised by the international
community regarding its special humanitarian stream identifying those most appropriate for
resettlement, but necessarily the most vulnerable people. The approach taken by the Australian
Government, alongside the continued sharing of news articles portraying migrants as rapists is
demonstrative of this heightened sense of popular nationalism identified in contemporary society,
stemming from fear tactics, as well as the an increased the sharing of information and opinion via

The Effects of the Cuban Revolution on Women s lives and Gender relations in Cuba from 1959 to

no rights and their husband or father was the one in charge, as it says in document 1 ...the mothers
and the daughters had to tolerate the male authority as longed they lived the father or husband.
No matter what starting from birth if you were a girl you were always gonna be under male
authority whether it was their own father or their husband no women could be free. But things

is a Family Code that guarantees the equal rights of women in their homes. So their daughter s
could go to school if they wanted to parents could leave their small children at daycares. But if a
girl got pregnant and had to leave instead of giving them maternity leave they hand them a
resignation. In document 6 it tells us about a girl who got expelled from medical school because
she had to go on maternity leave I asked for maternity leave and received instead a resolution
whereby I had been expelled for having abandon my field of study. So if a girl went to school she
had to be devoted to whatever it was that she was studying. The revolution was actually a good
thing because in document 8 it shows some data about the illiteracy and EAP rates in Cuba from
before the revolution in 1953 to during the revolution in 1982 and it shows that the

Rules When Dating Research
Bullying is not nice. It s like tantalizing someone for no reason. It makes you feel like you just
got rejected. That s why many people now ask people out over text. I would hope that my kid s
never ask anyone out over text. I know it s a rule that I can t do it in my house. When I have
kids I will also have many rules on dating. My first rule when dating is that my son or daughter
can t go on dates if it begins to affect there school work. If any of there grades drop below a c,
they are not allowed to go on any dates. Once they get there grade back up they can continue to go
out. In my opinion school comes before social life. The final part of this rule is on nights they have

On weekend they can stay out until one A.M. , but I need to know where they are and they need
to wake me up when they are home. If they are not back in time they will need to compensate for
that. I will be completely unflinching in this, because they need to learn there lesson. Finally I
will give them a terse scolding to make sure my point is clear. If this happens twice they will
have there phone taken away for a week. For every time after this it will be take away for a month.
Which is a teenagers worst nightmare. My final and most important rule is that they can t date until
they are in high school. I will feed my children only fodder until they split up, then they can eat
human food again. I do this because I feel in middle school you are just not mature enough to
date. Once you get to high school I feel the kids are mature enough to have a significant other if
they so choose. They also need to tell me when they get a better half. If I find out there dating
and I didn t know about it, they will be in big trouble. So those are some of my rules for dating
when my children date. That is if they don t get rejected. I hope this never happens because it s
just as bad as getting teased. That s why I hate when someone jeers at me. It makes you feel bad

Ergogenic Aids in Sports Essay
Ergogenic Aids in Sports
A large problem in sports today is the use of ergogenic aids. An ergogenic aid is any substance or
device that increases or enhances energy use, production, or recovery giving the athlete an
advantage in competition. Not all ergogenic aids are illegal; many such as dietary supplements,
vitamin supplements, or protein supplements are widely used and accepted, however, many are
illegal and are banned by many athletic committees(Ahrendt,1). I will be discussing these illegal
aids and the affect they have on the athlete and the athletic community. Some of the more
commonly used illegal aids include blood doping, caffeine, corticosteroids, diuretics, and human
growth hormones (HGH).
Blood doping is taking blood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The effectiveness of blood doping is unsure, researches don t know if it truly works. Some
reports state that the added RBC and hemoglobin increase the viscosity of the blood, which in
turn actually decreases the VO2 max(Goldman,50). The increase in viscosity can lead to an
overload of work in the liver and kidney, which could lead to future problems in the liver and
kidney (Shipe,77). Another precaution is if the blood that is injected does not come from the
person it is being injected into there is a possibility of getting a disease such as AIDS. Blood
doping is nearly impossible to discover in tests because the athlete is usually injecting their own
blood into their system. The increased hemoglobin and RBC in the body can be accredited to high
altitude workouts (working at high altitudes for extended amounts of time can increase hemoglobin
and RBC s). Even though it is near impossible to test for the Olympic Committee still bans its use
in hope to find a test.
Caffeine is a chemical found in the leaves, seeds, and fruit of over 60 species of plant. It is found in
coffee, tea, some soft drinks, and chocolate. It can also be taken as a tablet at high doses in
products such as No Doz or Vivarin (Donahue,33). It is banned as an ergogenic aid in large doses.
Caffeine is believed to increase endurance and alertness. An

When it comes to monitoring employees in the workplace, there are advantages for the employer
to do this, but there are also disadvantages of monitoring employees. Some of the most immediate
advantages to monitoring employees is that most likely job performance will be improved
because if an employee is being monitored and they know they will not try and do things that are
not company related. Another thing that monitoring work emails would help is sexual harassment
because if someone knows that their email is being recorded and or watched they would not even
try to do that to another coworker. The employer could see if their employees are actually doing
their work. Then finally, if a employer monitors emails it can help them not be liable

listed may or may not apply to you. Please be aware.
THE BODY:
Materials needed: A 2L Pop bottle, a black marker, paint, a ruler
, and a roll of masking tape. You
can also use Duct tape instead of masking tape if you prefer. Both works equally.
For the body of my rocket, I decided to cover it with masking tape. If I wanted to prove my

It is much easier when you measure out your Pop bottle, so you know the exact and accurate
placements of wherever you decide to place your fins/cone.
Once you have measured out your Pop bottle, decide where you are going to wrap the masking tape
around.
For my sake, I decided to cover the center of the bottle with masking tape.

Sherman Alexie s Without Reservation
When it comes to the topic of Native Americans and tradition most will agree that Sherman Alexie
is not the typical Indian writer and that he has in effect isolated himself. Jess Row in his article
Without Reservation , depicts Sherman Alexie as a storyteller that uses non developing dark humor
which in turn portrays his theme among each short storyin Blasphemy. I agree with Row s argument
that Alexie maintains a sense of humor throughout his writings but that it develops prematurely. I
also believe that he does this purposefully, in doing this, his message is clearly defined to the
reader and is always a shock at the end. After reading this article I have come to the conclusion that
Sherman Alexie entails his dark humor and storytelling style to purposefully misinterpret Indians to
demonstrate his cruel and genuine message.
Row, in Without Reservation emphasizes that Alexie is a storyteller and not a prose fictionwriter. A
story teller, he defines, has work that, ... contains, openly or covertly, something useful ... (Row 1).
Row goes on by giving evidence to why Alexie is a storyteller, and not your usual Indian writer. As
he explains, Alexie reinstates the fragmented and ruptured Indian life instead of the political topics
associated with them. With this idea in mind, Row believes that Alexie instills this behavior in his
writing to give way for his sharp moral endings. These genuine moral endings, installment of
stereotypes and Indian beliefs with consequences

What is nothing? Though at first, the response may seem like little more than a play on words, the
simple answer is this: Nothing is not. No word such as anything or everything can be added at the
end of the statement to further clarify the crucial concept, which is non existence: the dictionary
definition of nothing. In actuality, though, although the denotation of nothing insists on absolute
absence and void, in today s society nothing is actually quite present, masquerading as something
indeed.
Of course, there are concepts in existence that accurately represent our limited understanding of
nothing. One such concept is zero. In a simple counting sense, when one, two, or eight hundred
items could be present, but there aren t any, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In all other cases, zero s effect is both prominent and apparent (Reid 9).
A truer mathematical representation of nothing is the empty set, a venture in to the complicated
realm of set theory. In college algebra level mathematics, numbers are grouped into sets that can
then be compared to each other. For example, if {A}={ 1, 3,4,5} and {B}={ 1,0,1,2,3}, the
intersection (3 ) of these two sets is { 1,3}, the set of the units they share. However, if two sets are
compared with 3 , the intersection notation, but have no elements in common between them, their
intersection is {Г› }, the empty set. If a third set is introduced, {C}={0,2,6,8}, and compared to set
A, it can be determined that {A}3 {C} ={Г› }. No number or variable can be found in both sets, so
the set is empty. Truly, there is nothing in it.
Nothing can also be accurately found in science. A vacuum, space without matter in it, has many
scientific applications although its existence remains only theory. Intergalactic space is often called
a vacuum, but it is not a perfect one. Air at sea level contains 30? 1018 (30 billion billion)
molecules per cubic centimeter, and the best synthetic vacuum contains less than 100,000
molecules per cubic centimeter. It is estimated that intergalactic space contains an average of less
than one molecule per cubic meter. So, though theoretically a vacuum contains nothing, humanity
lacks knowledge of any genuine vacuums.
Nothing can also be

The Merger Of U.s. Airways And American Airlines
Since the merger of U.S. Airways and American Airlines, most people would now agree we are
living in the age of airline oligopoly. Oligopolies form when there s a state of restricted competition,
and new companies cannot break into the industry for reasons like high entry costs or government
restrictions. This is the condition of the airlineindustry, today. In order to breach the oligopolistic
nature of the airline industry, airlines must be able to break through high barriers to entry such as:
retaining substantial capital requirements, having the need for technical and technological
ingenuity and jurisdiction of patent rights. In addition, airplanes must be purchased, employees
must be trained and facilities must be procured. Even after all these expenditures, some airlines still
experience substantial financial losses. As a result, most of these airlines experiencing a financial
hardship are subject to an airline merger. For this reason, the major airlines in the United States now
consist of four competing large carriers: American Airlines, Delta Airlines, United Airlines and
Southwest Airlines. These companies have survived the deregulation of the airline industry and
sustained their places at the top of the industry. In an effort to stand out in an oligopolistic industry,
airlines must experience: economy of scale, growth through merger, mutual dependence and price
rigidity and non price competition.
In the oligopolistic airline industry, economy of scale enables

Autism Spectrum Disorder and its Characteristics Essay
In 2000, one in every one hundred and fifty children was diagnosed with autism spectrum
disorder. Since then, there has been a drastic increase of the incidence of this disorder. In 2013,
according to the Centers for Disease Control, autism spectrum disorder occurs in one out of eighty
eight children. (CDC, 2013) That is a significant increase over a relatively short period of time.
With such an increase, it is important to learn what autismspectrum disorder is and what might
cause it.

The first is a pattern of irregular language development. Although, most people with autism do
develop language skills, they are generally not at a level of a typically developing person and the
progress of their language development is usually slow and irregular. An example of the
irregular pattern of speech development seen in autism is Echolalia. Some estimates say that
85% of those with autism spectrum disorder who are verbal with show Echolalia in some form.
(Teach Me to Talk, 2008) There are two types of echolalia. Immediate echolalia and delayed
echolalia. Immediate echolalia occurs when the child echoes the words immediately after
another says them. Delayed echolalia is when a child repeats the words or phrases long after
they were originally said. This can occur days, weeks, or even months later. Another example of
irregular speech development is prosody. Webster dictionary defines prosody as the rhythm and
pattern of the sounds of language. Some people with autism may know the correct vocabulary to
use but are unable to use a correct tone of voice. Not only are they unable to use prosody, but they
are not able to detect its use others. (Rudy, 2010) This can make them appear emotionally distant, or
uninterested. An example of this is; a child, who has autism spectrum disorder, is talking

Keep Your Cool I wanted to die so I didn t have to face it. But I knew I had to keep going (Ty). This

Loung and her family were starving throughout their journey through the genocide. It got to the
point when rations were not enough. They had to steal food in order to get the amount needed
to survive. They would think of how hungry they were and it almost got to them. Dreaming of
food makes my stomach growl with pain. I d give anything now for a tiny piece of moon cake or
a leg of roasted duck. My mouth waters at the thought, and a wave of sadness washes over me
(Ung 80). Loung and her entire family is starving. They need food in order to survive. Loung
almost wants to give up because of her hunger. But she knows she has to push through it while
others might give up. She pushed through, stayed cool, and even stole food in order to survive
and she did. She made it out of the genocide and is still living today because of how she kept her
cool and did not give up.
In the book, First They Killed My Father by Loung Ung, Ung explores the idea of composure to

Membranes and Their Functions Essay
Membranes and Their Functions
Membranes form boundaries both around the cell (the plasma membrane) and around distinct sub
cellular compartments (e.g. nucleus, mitochondria, lysosomes, etc.). They act as selectively
permeable barriers allowing the inside environment of the cell or the organelle to differ from that
outside. Membranes are involved in signaling processes; they contain specified receptors for
external stimuli and are involved in both chemical and electrical signal generation. All membranes
contain two basic components: lipids (mainly phospholipids) and proteins. Some membranes also
contain carbohydrate. The decomposition of lipid, protein, and carbohydrates vary from one
membrane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These proteins also assist the active transport of materials across the membrane and could act as
energy transducers or electron carriers. Also contained in the membrane in between the
hydrophobic tails are steroids; cholesterol, which makes the membrane fluid at higher temperatures
but more fluid at lower temperatures so as to maintain the structure of the membrane (more stable).
It also acts as a plug, reducing even further the escape or entry of polar molecules through the
membrane. The channel proteins in the membrane are involved in the selective transport of polar
molecules and ions across the membrane e.g. water.
In short, phospholipids provide the basic structure of membranes and restrict the entry and exit of
polar molecules and ions. However, the main function of the membrane is to obtain nutrients,
excrete waste substances, secrete useful substances, and generate the ionic gradients essential for
nervous and muscular activity and to maintain a suitable pH and ionic concentration within the cell
for enzyme activity. All these are done through the movement of substances across the cell surface
membrane through either passive, active or glucose transport. The movement of molecules across a
membrane by passive transport does not require an input of metabolic energy. The molecule moves
from a high concentration to a lower concentration. The rate of

Morrison s Identity In William Morrison, Pecola, By Toni...
1. At the beginning of the novel, When the words are connected it shows perplexity and worry
which is really what happens to the Breedlove s. I think Morrison shows in her writing that also
happens to Pecola as she struggles for acceptance and Identity. Contrast is also one of the things
Morrison s powerful English show throughout the text. There is definitely a confusion between the
community because it loves and hates at the same time. Also, it is illustrated in the book that black
families are the only ones with the struggles and problems when compared with the white family.
2. Claudia s understanding of how the world could be dark was very little, due to the fact that
she was too young. So, her point of view is very insightful. Throughout the Novel Pecola is
maltreated no matter the circumstances, especially when she needed attention and support.
Morrison shows in many ways that Pocola s Environment is hostile to her. To begin with her
parents negatively perceived themselves, and it had a huge effect on Pecola and why she
perceived herself as being ugly. Also in the School, she was treated badly by the kids around her.
Her parents did not love their identity and took this out on their daughter. In addition to the hatred
that she received from her parents, she also received cruel treatment from schoolboys of the same
race, not to mention she was raped by her own father. So, I think it was important to have Claudia
as the narrator, because she grasped on the fact that her

found on their website. There is as well an interactive part were children with an adult help can
make various things like sea monster mask or globe. Many interesting tasks in Make your own
can be done at home but for the children of age 5 8 parents interaction would be needed. While
further looking how this could be brought in to a promises the idea came to mind. Rather than
having the tool in making mask or globe on line children could be doing it at the museum. There
are no complicated tools or objects involved in the process and children would not be proud in
taking an item home and sharing with their friends or siblings. This would as well show to
parents that the museum is not just about looking at the material collected. Children at the age
of 5 8 are particular excited in showing their achievements. The National Maritime Museum
holds pirate day every Wednesday and Friday and there are six sessions between both days. This
shows that there is an interest for schools to organise trips and bring children were they can

political expedience and as a tool of war. For more on that issue, read the debates surrounding
the passage of the Confiscation Acts. Very few outside the vocal cadre of outspoken abolitionists
were concerned with the plight of those of African descent. On the social side, no one in the
north, forget the south, wanted an influx of uneducated, homeless, angry former slaves with no
income, no means of support and no marketable job skills into their neighborhoods. Lincoln
himself wanted to settle freed slaves in colonies to be established for the purpose in uninhabited
areas of Texas and Missouri, on Caribbean islands or in Indian Territory. He did NOT want them
settling in Washington DC or in Illinois especially, or in any other white region generally. In the
north, with its ever increasing influx of immigrants, freed slaves were not a welcome prospect.
The immigrants, especially the Irish, were despised and equated with the Africans as a sub species
not capable of participating in government and not entitled to rights of citizenship or equal
protection of law and due process. Calhoun did not voice such sentiments as loudly as did the
northern intelligentsia, but he did not hide his opinion either. For more one that aspect of

committed suicide due to mental anguish on SNS, and thought about the way to help people who
want to die because of cyberbullying. After she heard about the news, which had influenced her, she
created a computer software which allows people to rethink before the posting completely has done.
According to her study, 93% of young people have quit writing brutal things on the Internet. Her

Consequences Of Consumerism In Robert Gray s The Meatworks
An alternative: Consumerism has created a perpetual demand for products, but we are left distinctly
unaware of the horrific implications of our purchases.
The perpetual demand for goods created by consumerism has left us ignorant to the horrible
consequences of our purchases.
Confronting texts often incite a process of discovery that can challenge worldviews. As such,
composers of these texts offer fresh and meaningful insight into commonly held conceptions,
evoking emotional and intellectual discoveries that lead to renewed perceptions of ourselves and
our society. Robert Gray s imagistic poems The Meatworks (1982)and Flames and Dangling Wire
(1977) serve as conduits for the confronting discovery of mankind s ignorance of the consequences
of consumerism. Author J.M. Coetzee s novella The Lives of Animals (1999) violently thrusts the
audience into a reaction against consumerism, hence showing how discovery can be far reaching
and transformative.
Discoveries can be confronting and provocative, and can often lead to renewed understandings of

The Passionate Shepherd Of His Love By Christopher Marlowe
Since the beginning of humankind, people have sought partners to share their lives with.
Adam himself being lonely and destitute was paired with Eve to share in all life s joys and
tribulations. Many would agree that life is best spent in the company of another and without
companionship, our existence would be dull and wearisome. The Passionate Shepherd to His Love
by Christopher Marlowe is a pastoral poem published in 1599 where a man attempts to find
companionship because he is lonely. Marlowe creates a majestic rural world encompassed by
natural beauty in which the Shepherd attempts to court a presumably young woman. The Nymph s
reply to the Shepherd by Sir Walter Raleigh was written in response to The Passionate Shepherd to
His Love in 1600, one year after its publication. This Story takes place in the same area as the
previous poem but is now narrated by the Shepherds love interest rather than the Shepherd himself.
With both poems having different speakers insight is gained into the thought process of both the
Nymph and the Sheppard. Using this information it can be ascertained that the Nymph and the
Shappard are incompatible because they have different viewpoints on love and its obtainment. The
Shepherd does not offer acceptable terms to the Nymph, his principles are inconsistent with her
own, and he is a romantic while she is a realist. One desires the life of those in the garden of Eden
while the other denies its existence. Marlow opens The

Analysis Of Silence By Silence Wiesel
Silence is the most powerful scream, wise words spoken by an anonymous individual. Silence is
sometimes more effective conveying a message or idea than words are, an idea explored by
Wiesel. His memoir describes the hardships and experiences of a teenage boy surviving through
the holocaust. He speaks of the unbearable situations he went through, such as going without
food for days, watching his father die, and accepting the physical abuse from SS officers. In the
memoir Night, Wiesel uses structure, symbolism, and motifs to display the power and
consequences of silence. Throughout Wiesel s memoir, he utilizes structure to emphasis the
power of silence. For example, Wiesel manipulates his text by deliberately placing breaks
between sections. Moreover, these breaks in paragraphs are used to draw attention to specific
sections of the text Wiesel considers important, or when there is a change in setting or scenery.
Wiesel also includes a break in the text to assist the reader in following the course of the text, the
reader pauses, or takes a moment of silence, at these breaks. This provides the reader to stop and
think about what is happening in this part of the story, this is subtly powerful due to the reader
being forced into being silent without knowing. Additionally, Wiesel uses ellipses to display his
silence: You promised... We want to go to the depot, we are strong enough to work. We are good
workers. We can... we want... (Wiesel 74). Elie has this mindset

The horse appeared perfectly balanced on his hind legs and was very lifelike. It was agreed that
he would be paid $12,000 to execute the statue and the bronze would be provided. It took 2 years
to make the plaster cast and a lot of trial and error. A statue of this size of bronze had not been
attempted in the United States to that date. The bronze was from cannons which were captured by
Andrew Jackson during the second war with England. The statue was dedicated in January 8, 1853
and placed in LaFayette Square in Washington, D.C. It is still there, directly across from the White
House. Congress was so pleased with the delightfully original statue that they added $20,000 to
the fee which had already been paid. With the mold already made, Mills was commissioned to
make the same statue to be placed in New Orleans in 1856. A third replica was ordered for
Nashville, Tennessee and dedicated in 1880. Mills next project was an equestrian statue of George
Washington. He was also chosen to complete Statue of Freedomwhich was designed by Thomas

and a foundry to complete the orders which he had received. The Washington statue was very

Restorative Justice In Canada
Restorative justice is an alternate to plain criminal justice processes, with roots in ancient and
autochthonous types of justice. It focuses on repairing the damage caused by crime, inside the

Analysis Of Walter Benjamin s The Work Of Art In The Age...
Walter Benjamin s work on the concept of aura has clarified and elucidated why art and other
media are perceived the way they are. Benjamin s The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical
Reproduction provides an in depth insight as to the transformation of art in this new modern world.
Benjamin s concept of aura explains why the new age of technological mass reproduction has had
such an effect on contemporary and classic art. He argues that with easily accessible methods of
replication, the artwork simply loses its uniqueness and individuality. When investigating how aura
would be applied to the modern method of sharing images through a site such as Twitter, an
interesting conversation emerges. Twitter is a 21st century social networking site used by millions
in which users share ideas, images, news, etc. with one another. The way in which Twitter users
sabotage aura through the utilization of images and content is in alignment with the way Walter
Benjamin felt about reproductions. Walter Benjamin, a German Jew who lived during the early
20th century, often combined elements of Marxism, German idealism, Jewish theory, and aesthetic
principles into his work. One of his most famous essays, The Work of Art in the Age of
Mechanical Reproduction, focused on discernment of art with the introduction of technological
methods of rapidly reproducing it. Benjamin used the idea of aura to center his arguments around.
Aura, as defined by Benjamin is A strange tissue of space and time: the unique apparition of a
distance, however near it may be (Benjamin 23) The somewhat cryptic description of this term
exhibits its quite enigmatic meaning. Aura, in simple terms, is the way in which something is
perceived in relation to its environment and its character. A social networking site that exemplifies
the evolution of aura is Twitter. Twitter is a 21st century website and app that allows users to
handle content in any way they desire. Users can simply read others content, share their own,
comment their ideas, or just merely read and absorb. The unique aspect about Twitter is its retweet
function. To retweet someone is to simply share their post on one s own profile. The purpose is to

Deductive Arguments For Universal Healthcare
Final Paper Universal Healthcare

PHI103 Informal Logic
Instructor Christopher DeFusco Ph D.
November 24, 2017
Chosen Topic:
Should Universal Healthcare be available to all regardless of their ability to pay in the same way
that other services like education are available to all for free?
Universal Healthcare means that all individuals can use medical services as preventative, curative,
and rehabilitative care when they need it regardless of their income levels. Universal healthcare
guarantees that these services are available to everyone. The U.S. is in talks now for a single payer
system which would provide health insurance in place of private companies to bring more access to
medical to the lower class and the thousands of under or uninsured.
P1: Universal Healthcare would reduce long term costs.
P2: Everyone has a right to see a doctor.
P3: Universal Healthcare would improve public health overall, with preventative care and overall
health management.
C: Therefore universal healthcare should be available to every person as a government funded
program.
This is a deductive argument. A deductive argument is an argument that is intended by the arguer to
be deductively valid. As the deductive arguer here I am attempting to provide the truth of the
conclusion that is provided by my arguments premises and they should be true statements.

The Standardization Of Samuel Johnson
Who is Samuel Johnson? He was an English writer and critic, and one of the most celebrated
literary figures of the 18th century. His best known work is his Dictionary of the English

their worry for the future of English language that might not be understood in the future if these
changes continued this way. This is because the vernacular had been growing and changing in

Church History on Water Baptism
Church History on Water Baptism
Introduction
Baptism can be traced back to the Old Testament era during the time when the wanted to identify
themselves with the Israelites and become Jews. The word Baptize was coined from the Greek
work Bapto which basically means to immerse down in water and then pull out. Christians have
been practicing water baptism since time immemorial as a way of cleansing themselves of sins and
getting closer to Jesus Christ. Some churches require that a person must have specific qualifications
before one can perform a baptism.
However, in the Old Testament the act wasn t actually practiced as a way of repenting but rather
the Judaists saw it as a cleansing ritual. Such as when someone a person was ill they ... Show more

Instead of using water during the baptism, Holy oil was used. The priest would meet the child at
the entrance of the church and if the child had not yet been baptized, the priest would put salt in the
child s mouth as a way of exorcising demons.
At the baptismal font, the priest would anoint the child after which the child would be immersed
under water. The child after being taken out of the water would then be wrapped by the
godparents in pure christening white linen gown. The child s godparents and the sole responsibility
to look out for the child as one would to their own children. Other than looking out for the child,
the godparents were expected to teach the child prayers and even go further to teach the child on
morals and ways of conducting one in a Christian manner in the society.
The Reformation
The reformation was a movement lead by Martin Luther in the sixteenth century in Western Europe
whose main purpose was to change of the Christian beliefs that were already in place at the time.
The reformation brought about the rise of four major Protestants; Lutheranism, Calvinism,
Anglicanism and Anabaptism. All the four Protestants were in agreement that baptism of infants
was unnecessary since as a new born child one could not possibly already have faith in something.
Luther s views on water baptism was just as similar as that of the Roman Catholic church as he

Bus Service Is The Most Common Vision
Bus service is the most common vision that comes to mind when one thinks about Urban Public
transportation. The Bloomington Normal area uses Connect Transit, which has multiple buses and
routes throughout the area. Although the Connect Transit system is very helpful for most students,
allowing us to go to the mall with friends, visit target for food and needed items, or visiting the
downtown, it can also prove to be extremely difficult and stressful for people who would have to
rely everyday on it. After riding the busfor more than an hour, making two transfers along the way
and visiting multiple neighborhoods, I came to realize why a stigma regarding public
transportation exists. Public transit situates is so that we are given license to accept what s
right in front of us, but will likely arouse our desire to compare our narrative to someone else s,
to give ourselves permission to speculate upon a person s private space, or life, with no fear of
recourse or punishment (Wilson, 2012). In order to view the barriers that low income people face
on a daily basis when it comes to riding the bus, I rode the available public transportation, allowing
for detailed observation.

Zelda Fitzgerald Essay
Zelda Fitzgerald
Zelda Fitzgerald began life looking forward to what it could offer her. A popular debutante and
success at everything she had yet to try enticed her to believe that she was infallible. It was only
during her later life that she realized that life, both physically and mentally, had its breaking point.
Though many things have been blamed as the cause of her mental breakdown, there is no specific
root to her problem. Diagnosed as schizophrenic in 1930, Zelda would be condemned to spending
the rest of her life in and out of mental health facilities, the place where she would take her final
breath, killed by a fire in 1948.
Zelda Fitzgerald s first breakdown occurred while living abroad in 1929. ... Show more content on

The doctor s surmised that Zelda s breakdown had something to do with their marriage and
advised Scott to stay away until her treatment was well established. Though they could not see
each other Zelda and Scott communicated through letters, and it is through these letters that
Zelda s mental state can be examined. Zelda s letters ranged in emotions depending on the state
of her illness, and the length of time of her stay at Les Rives de Pragins. In the beginning she
seems despondent writing, Every day it seems to me that things are more barren and sterile and
hopeless (Bryer, 80).[2] Towards the middle of her treatment Zelda seems angry with Scott,
blaming him for her disease, To me, it is not astonishing that I should look on you with
unfriendly eyes, you could have saved me all this trouble... (Bryer, 85). At the end of her first
year of treatment Zelda s letters become more hopeful and loving, reminiscent of the letters
between Zelda and Scott during their youth. In one, Zelda writes, You are a sweet person the
sweetest and dearest of all and I love you as I love my vanished youth which is as much as a
human heart can hold (Bryer, 109). Soon following this letter, after a year and three months of
treatment Zelda was discharged.
Her discharge papers cited her condition as caused by, reaction to her feelings of inferiority
(primarily toward her husband...) (Milford, 190). Part of

Notes Of A Biology Watcher, By Lewis Thomas
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an ant? Author of The Lives of a Cell:
Notes of a Biology Watcher Lewis Thomas, has. In his essay, he compares ants to humans. He has
a theory that they are very similar. I believe this comparison is accurate one because both humans
and ants act similar in the way they live, both are a stronger force when they work together, and
both have a nature to cause destruction. He accomplishes driving his point home by exposing his
readers to a new explanation of human nature and how related it is to ants human nature. Lewis
Thomas starts the comparison from the very beginning of the essay. He starts with the lifestyle of
both creatures. Ants are so much like human beings a to be an embarrassment.... Show more content

He also hints that actions require consequences and someone taking responsibility for those
actions, ants being superior in this situation. They...Launch armies into wars, use chemical sprays
to alarm and confuse enemies, capture slaves,. The families of weaver ants engage in child
labor.. (Thomas 1 6). This quote compares ants destructive nature to humans. People cause wars
and we use chemical sprays, and many years ago we captured slave. Even though it is illegal,
humans still engage in child labor, as well. Thomas also states, I am unsure of the meaning, but I
think it has something to do with all that plastic that, and the distance from the earth... But I think
it was chiefly the plastic, which seems to me the most unearthly of all man s creations so far. I do
not believe you can suspend army ants away from the earth, on plastic for any length of time. They
will lose touch, run out of energy, and die for lack of current. As written before this compares the
destructive nature of humans. If a human was taken from their home and their resources, they too
would become home sick and could possibly die. Both humans and ants are meant to live their
natural habitats. In this quote, he also alludes that humans need to take responsibility for their
actions. He in a way holds them

The Significant and Enduring Impact Louis Pasteur Had on...
The intention of this paper is to examine the significant and enduring impact Louis Pasteur had on
public health and wonderful advances in medicines and invention of vaccines. Louis Pasteur was a
truly talented person who made many various discoveries in different areas of science. He invented
Pasteurization, the process of treating milk free of damage causing microorganisms (Louis Pasteur,
2014). In 1843, Louis enrolled at the Ecole Normale SupeВґrieure in Paris, where he focused in the
origins of life. During the time he was professor in Strasbourg, France, he started investigating
fermentation, which is a chemical process that breaks down organic substance. Pasteur became

Louis drew comprehensive drawings that would help him draw what he saw in the microscope.
Fortitude also came in his childhood when a wolf bit his friend and nearly died from rabies (Berche,
2012).
Louis Pasteur Education Louis received his bachelor s degree in letters in August of 1840.
Louis received his doctoral degree in 1847 with a thesis on crystallography. Pasteur studied how
certain crystals affect light and at the age of 26, he started working on his doctoral thesis on
crystallography, the study of forms and structures of crystals. Louis began working with two
acids commonly found in the sediments of fermenting wine. Tartaric acid and paratartaric acid
were found a few years earlier to have the same chemical composition, but there was something
about these two acids that were different and Louis sought to find the answer. He found that in
solution the two rotated polarized light differently, while tartaric acid rotated polarized light to the
right, paratartaric acid did not rotate the light at all. He then began to study the crystals of each
acid under his microscope and noticed that some of the crystals in paratartaric acid were slightly
different from that of tartaric acid. Using a dissecting needle and his microscope, he separated the
different crystals into two piles, and upon viewing each crystal in the microscope, he noticed that
the crystals appeared to be mirror images of themselves (Berche, 2012).

Spillover Chapter Summary
Spillover by David Quammen is most definitely one of the more unique, yet applicable novels I
have read in quite some time. As someone who is interested in attending pharmacy school and
ultimately dealing with disease and sickness for the rest of my life, I found it very mesmerizing
to learn about how certain zoonotic diseases came to be. With that said, I ll go right into the first
chapter: Pale Horse . This chapter focuses on the virus now known as Hendra. It started in a place
known as Brisbane, Australia (more specifically a northern suburb known as Hendra) in 1994
where some horses began experiencing the disease. This also ultimately led to some human
infections, some of which causes fatalities. Vic Rail, a horse trainer, was the first human to fatally
experience Hendra... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This chapter focuses on Malaria. When Quammen began writing this, he was told to not include
Malaria because it was not zoonotic but vector borne. However, Quammen found that the human
version of Malaria come from a mosquito biting an infected gorilla, and then biting a human.
Since the disease was delivered to a new host, malaria has now become zoonotic and a spillover.
I personally find this chapter of the book to be rather intriguing because compared to some of
the other diseases in this book such as Hendra or SARS; I would have liked to think that I was
rather knowledgeable about Malaria, but that was not the case. I have never heard of Malaria
being a Spillover and I found it compelling to read about in this book. The next chapter of this
book, Dinner at the Rat Farm , is centered on SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). In
2003, SARS made its presence known as it rapidly spread globally to places like Canada and the
Philippines. SARS origin belongs to southern province of China called Guangdong. The SARS
outbreak in China was quick and not to be messed with. It ran ravage through communities and

Description of Conjoint Analysis
Conjoint Analysis Like qualitative researchers, quantitative researchers also have a number of
approaches available to them today. The selection of the research approach will depend on what
type of information is being sought, what type of information is available, and the goals of the
researcher. One research methodology that is gaining increasing popularity is conjoint analysis, a
quantitative methodology that is discussed further below, followed by a summary of the research
and important findings in the conclusion. Review and Discussion Description of Conjoint Analysis
and Examples of Business Applications Conjoint analysis is a quantitative methodology that
measures the perceived values of various possible product designs (Calantone Di Benedetto, 1990).
Respondents participating in conjoint analyses view several variations in product concepts and then
assign ranks with respect to their individual preferences (Calantone Di Benedetto, 1990). The
analysis of these responses can be used to identify the respective utility that is associated with each
of the attributes ranked by the respondents, and these findings can then be used to identify the
combination of attributes that consumers would likely most prefer (Calantone Di Benedetto, 1990).
According to Orme (2009), Conjoint analysis has become one of the most widely used quantitative
methods in marketing research. When used properly, it provides reliable and useful results (p. 1).

The Effect Of Temperature And Dissolved Oxygen...
I.Introduction
Anthropogenic climate change is causing hotter and drier conditions across the southwest United
States. Decades of fire suppression campaigns have led to an accumulation of ladder fuels within
forests across this region. Both of these factors are now contributing to more frequent and more
extreme fires in recent years. These catastrophic fires cause significant changes to ground cover
along stream corridors. The loss of ground cover significantly increases the amount of sediment
entering watersheds, which can alter both temperature and dissolved oxygen levels throughout the
system. The purpose of this paper is to examine the changes in water temperature and dissolved
oxygen concentration associated with wildfire, how these changes can be controlled, how effective
these controls are, and what more can be done.
II.Temperature
Fire can alter stream temperature in several different ways. First, and probably most short lived, is
the immediate temperature spikes caused by the active burning. Second, fire has the potential to
reduce overhead canopy cover, thus increasing light penetration and absorbance by the water.
Finally, additions of large amounts of sediment (which increases the turbidity of water bodies) can
increase the amount of light absorbed thereby increasing the water temperature.
Temperatures in streams can spike during active burning and kill many aquatic invertebrates and
vertebrates. In addition to this immediate consequence, the loss

What are the possible consequences of improperly citing references? In most writing the content and ideas are not always your own. There for it is important to give credit to the original source of your writing. You can do this by quoting, paraphrasing or summarizing the original text in which you obtained the ideas for your writing. • 3. Islm Curve Understanding Equilibrium in the IS/LM Model 1995 version Prof. Humberto Barreto1 Introduction: This brief work is designed to provide additional ammunition for the student in the ongoing war against IS/LM confusion and ignorance. The author has claimed in his Notes on Macroeconomic Theory (1995) that, There should be no mystery or uncertainty surrounding the IS /LM analysis at this point. IS/LM curves are simply a short cut to finding the equilibrium values for income and interest rate. There are two equations and two unknownsГ‘what simpler strategy than to put them on one graph could be devised? (p. 52) The author still worries, however, that the student is memorizing the equilibrium condition, IS=LM generates Ye, without really... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The student should see that the existing values of i and Y will have a tendency to change. The interest rate will fall because there is a shortage of bonds and as the price of bonds rises to drive the bond market to equilibrium, the interest rate will fall. The equilibrium interest rate, of course, will be found at the intersection of the Ms and Md schedules. Output will increase because a falling interest rate will trigger higher investment expenditures by firms. The increased I will increase AD and, therefore, Ye will increase. But then the higher income will shift money demand up, which will increase the equilibrium interest rate, and the same chain will be triggered leading to a decrease in the equilibrium level of output. The student undoubtedly knows that, eventually, after running through a series of converging loops, the system will settle into a mutually compatible, or general equilibrium, combination of i and Y. If you think the iteration process is a messy and cumbersome means of calculating the general equilibrium, or final, resting place of i and Y, you should applaud the use of the IS/LM graph. In one quick graph, we can immediately and easily see the system s general equilibrium solution. From our initial i0, Y0 combination, the IS/LM graph allows us to instantly see the final solution and to predict a decrease in interest rates and increase in output. However, a drawback is that it does not show how or why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the other hand, a man of 25 has matured, lived long enough to have made both good and bad judgments and has already been in the process of achieving those life goals they once thought of as a teenager. In a given situation, is it ethical to hold these two age groups, with mentalities that are worlds apart, to the same standards and punishments in the justice system? Until Roper v. Simmonsin 2005, the justice system did just that, treat the actions of 16 year old with the same consequences as if they had been committed by an adult. In Roper v. Simmons the United States Supreme Court declared... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Is it then ethical to sentence a person with undeveloped reasoning and thinking skills to the death penalty if they cannot fully comprehend the consequences of their actions? If adolescents are being considered to have diminished reasoning and thinking skills, how then do they compare the mentally ill? Do the same standards apply? If so, then the case of Atkins v. Virginia, in which it was declared by the U.S. Supreme Court that the mentally handicapped would not be sentenced to the death penalty, would be essential to the cause opposing juvenile death penalty. It is not denied that these juveniles have committed horrendous crimes and should be held accountable for their actions, but certain mitigating circumstances negate the need for a death penalty. In the United Sates, the first juvenile death penalty recorded occurred in 1642 of a minor under the age of 18 and the youngest person ever given the death penalty was ten year old James Arcene in 1885 for robbery and murder (Strater, 1994 1995). By 1994 there were only 9 states, among which were New Jersey, Kansas, and Maryland, that prohibited the death penalties for juveniles. In 2003 the number of states permitting capital punishment declined to 21, a number of them allowing this punishment to those as young as 16 (Steinberg Scott, 2003). • 5. Corporate Transparency And Efficient Resource Allocation Introduction A successful organization depends on a solid strategic plan that includes how it intends to handle transparency. In his article, (Champy, 2008) emphasizes several principles he discovered while researching organizations for his book, the one that resonates with both my personal and professional life is to be completely open and transparent. He further goes on to outline the needs of a culture that embraces and values transparency. Indeed, many experts and professionals agree that corporate transparency and efficient resource allocationare closely related. The transparency, or essentially the clear picture, as it relates to resource allocation allows organizations to regularly direct their assets in the right directions, making it easier for them to be allocated in more productive and useful areas of the organization. The rationale for this strategy is fairly simple; having a clear picture means additional assurance for the investing parties Francis et al., (2009). Using the roadmaps created from the strategic plan, smart leaders easily figure out the risks involved, and take necessary measures to eliminate or ameliorate them. Similarly, organizational transparency on a whole is equally important for all the organization s stakeholders, especially potential investors. This allows investors to easily weigh their options by evaluating any critical information, and also the fact that the doings of the organizations are there to be seen by everyone ... The unique characteristic of a commercial bank is that it also creates money, and it is this particular feature of the commercial banks which distinguishes them from non banking financial institution. Banks ability to promote growth and development depends on the extent to which financial transactions are conducted with trust and less risk. While an act of violence against any individual is always a tragic event, violent crimes based on prejudice have a much stronger impact because the motive behind the crimeis to terrorize an entire group or community. Since the dawn of humanity, people have had to judge things based on limited prior knowledge for many occasions from what style is in all the way to what group of people they choose to massacre. Even though the Supreme Court s ruling has brought marriage equality to all 50 states, 31 states still lack clear, fully inclusive non discrimination protections for LGBT citizens. Another precaution is if the blood that is injected does not come from the person it is being injected into there is a possibility of getting a disease such as AIDS. Blood doping is nearly impossible to discover in tests because the athlete is usually injecting their own blood into their system. No word such as anything or everything can be added at the end of the statement to further clarify the crucial concept, which is non existence: the dictionary definition of nothing. In actuality, though, although the denotation of nothing insists on absolute absence and void, in today s society nothing is actually quite present, masquerading as something indeed. For example, if {A}={ 1, 3,4,5} and {B}={ 1,0,1,2,3}, the intersection (3 ) of these two sets is { 1,3}, the set of the units they share. However, if two sets are compared with 3 , the intersection notation, but have no elements in common between them, their intersection is {Г› }, the empty set. If a third set is introduced, {C}={0,2,6,8}, and compared to set A, it can be determined that {A}3 {C} ={Г› }. No number or variable can be found in both sets, so the set is empty. Oligopolies form when there s a state of restricted competition, and new companies cannot break into the industry for reasons like high entry costs or government restrictions. This is the condition of the airlineindustry, today. In order to breach the oligopolistic nature of the airline industry, airlines must be able to break through high barriers to entry such as: retaining substantial capital requirements, having the need for technical and technological ingenuity and jurisdiction of patent rights. In addition, airplanes must be purchased, employees must be trained and facilities must be procured. Even after all these expenditures, some airlines still experience substantial financial losses. As a result, most of these airlines experiencing a financial hardship are subject to an airline merger. For this reason, the major airlines in the United States now consist of four competing large carriers: American Airlines, Delta Airlines, United Airlines and Southwest Airlines. These companies have survived the deregulation of the airline industry and sustained their places at the top of the industry. Membranes and Their Functions Essay Membranes and Their Functions Membranes form boundaries both around the cell (the plasma membrane) and around distinct sub cellular compartments (e.g. nucleus, mitochondria, lysosomes, etc.). They act as selectively permeable barriers allowing the inside environment of the cell or the organelle to differ from that outside. Membranes are involved in signaling processes; they contain specified receptors for external stimuli and are involved in both chemical and electrical signal generation. All membranes contain two basic components: lipids (mainly phospholipids) and proteins. Some membranes also contain carbohydrate. The decomposition of lipid, protein, and carbohydrates vary from one membrane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These proteins also assist the active transport of materials across the membrane and could act as energy transducers or electron carriers. Also contained in the membrane in between the hydrophobic tails are steroids; cholesterol, which makes the membrane fluid at higher temperatures but more fluid at lower temperatures so as to maintain the structure of the membrane (more stable). It also acts as a plug, reducing even further the escape or entry of polar molecules through the membrane. The channel proteins in the membrane are involved in the selective transport of polar molecules and ions across the membrane e.g. water. In short, phospholipids provide the basic structure of membranes and restrict the entry and exit of polar molecules and ions. However, the main function of the membrane is to obtain nutrients, excrete waste substances, secrete useful substances, and generate the ionic gradients essential for nervous and muscular activity and to maintain a suitable pH and ionic concentration within the cell for enzyme activity. After she heard about the news, which had influenced her, she created a computer software which allows people to rethink before the posting completely has done. According to her study, 93% of young people have quit writing brutal things on the Internet. Her study proved that we can change people s mind, and prevent people who are bullied from committing suicide. As you know we live only once so we should take care of one another and save people who are wanting to die. Basically, there are several events which lead people to suicide, yet we also have some possibilities to help people who are oppressed before they decide to take their own lives. To begin with developed technology, due to increase the rate of using high technology things such as iPhone, iPad and laptop computer, the tyrannizing is getting more serious than in the past. 20 years ago, people did not have cell phones, so the tormenting was not that much harder. • 27. Consequences Of Consumerism In Robert Gray s The Meatworks An alternative: Consumerism has created a perpetual demand for products, but we are left distinctly unaware of the horrific implications of our purchases. The perpetual demand for goods created by consumerism has left us ignorant to the horrible consequences of our purchases. Confronting texts often incite a process of discovery that can challenge worldviews. As such, composers of these texts offer fresh and meaningful insight into commonly held conceptions, evoking emotional and intellectual discoveries that lead to renewed perceptions of ourselves and our society. Robert Gray s imagistic poems The Meatworks (1982)and Flames and Dangling Wire (1977) serve as conduits for the confronting discovery of mankind s ignorance of the consequences of consumerism. Author J.M. Coetzee s novella The Lives of Animals (1999) violently thrusts the audience into a reaction against consumerism, hence showing how discovery can be far reaching and transformative. Discoveries can be confronting and provocative, and can often lead to renewed understandings of our society. In Robert Gray s poem The Meatworks , Gray offers disturbing insight into the horrifying reality of the meat industry, following the persona s process of self discovery as they realise society s high value on consumerism has paved the way for the destruction of nature. Gray opens with gruesome details of the conditions of the persona s workplace; the abattoir. By doing so, he immediately confronts the reader in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. The Passionate Shepherd Of His Love By Christopher Marlowe Since the beginning of humankind, people have sought partners to share their lives with. Adam himself being lonely and destitute was paired with Eve to share in all life s joys and tribulations. Many would agree that life is best spent in the company of another and without companionship, our existence would be dull and wearisome. The Passionate Shepherd to His Love by Christopher Marlowe is a pastoral poem published in 1599 where a man attempts to find companionship because he is lonely. Marlowe creates a majestic rural world encompassed by natural beauty in which the Shepherd attempts to court a presumably young woman. The Nymph s reply to the Shepherd by Sir Walter Raleigh was written in response to The Passionate Shepherd to His Love in 1600, one year after its publication. This Story takes place in the same area as the previous poem but is now narrated by the Shepherds love interest rather than the Shepherd himself. With both poems having different speakers insight is gained into the thought process of both the Nymph and the Sheppard. Using this information it can be ascertained that the Nymph and the Shappard are incompatible because they have different viewpoints on love and its obtainment. The Shepherd does not offer acceptable terms to the Nymph, his principles are inconsistent with her own, and he is a romantic while she is a realist. One desires the life of those in the garden of Eden while the other denies its existence. Marlow opens The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Analysis Of Silence By Silence Wiesel Silence is the most powerful scream, wise words spoken by an anonymous individual. Silence is sometimes more effective conveying a message or idea than words are, an idea explored by Wiesel. His memoir describes the hardships and experiences of a teenage boy surviving through the holocaust. He speaks of the unbearable situations he went through, such as going without food for days, watching his father die, and accepting the physical abuse from SS officers. In the memoir Night, Wiesel uses structure, symbolism, and motifs to display the power and consequences of silence. Throughout Wiesel s memoir, he utilizes structure to emphasis the power of silence. For example, Wiesel manipulates his text by deliberately placing breaks between sections. Moreover, these breaks in paragraphs are used to draw attention to specific sections of the text Wiesel considers important, or when there is a change in setting or scenery. Wiesel also includes a break in the text to assist the reader in following the course of the text, the reader pauses, or takes a moment of silence, at these breaks. This provides the reader to stop and think about what is happening in this part of the story, this is subtly powerful due to the reader being forced into being silent without knowing. Additionally, Wiesel uses ellipses to display his silence: You promised... We want to go to the depot, we are strong enough to work. We are good workers. We can... we want... (Wiesel 74). The bronze was from cannons which were captured by Andrew Jackson during the second war with England. The statue was dedicated in January 8, 1853 and placed in LaFayette Square in Washington, D.C. It is still there, directly across from the White House. Congress was so pleased with the delightfully original statue that they added $20,000 to the fee which had already been paid. With the mold already made, Mills was commissioned to make the same statue to be placed in New Orleans in 1856. A third replica was ordered for Nashville, Tennessee and dedicated in 1880. Mills next project was an equestrian statue of George Washington. He was also chosen to complete Statue of Freedomwhich was designed by Thomas Crawford. Crawford had gotten as far as making the plaster model but had died before having the chance to cast the statue in bronze. • 32. Analysis Of Walter Benjamin s The Work Of Art In The Age... Walter Benjamin s work on the concept of aura has clarified and elucidated why art and other media are perceived the way they are. Benjamin s The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction provides an in depth insight as to the transformation of art in this new modern world. Benjamin s concept of aura explains why the new age of technological mass reproduction has had such an effect on contemporary and classic art. He argues that with easily accessible methods of replication, the artwork simply loses its uniqueness and individuality. When investigating how aura would be applied to the modern method of sharing images through a site such as Twitter, an interesting conversation emerges. Twitter is a 21st century social networking site used by millions in which users share ideas, images, news, etc. with one another. The way in which Twitter users sabotage aura through the utilization of images and content is in alignment with the way Walter Benjamin felt about reproductions. Walter Benjamin, a German Jew who lived during the early 20th century, often combined elements of Marxism, German idealism, Jewish theory, and aesthetic principles into his work. One of his most famous essays, The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, focused on discernment of art with the introduction of technological methods of rapidly reproducing it. Benjamin used the idea of aura to center his arguments around. Aura, as defined by Benjamin is A strange tissue of space and time: the unique apparition of a distance, however near it may be (Benjamin 23) The somewhat cryptic description of this term exhibits its quite enigmatic meaning. Aura, in simple terms, is the way in which something is perceived in relation to its environment and its character. A social networking site that exemplifies the evolution of aura is Twitter. Twitter is a 21st century website and app that allows users to handle content in any way they desire. November 24, 2017 Chosen Topic: Should Universal Healthcare be available to all regardless of their ability to pay in the same way that other services like education are available to all for free? Universal Healthcare means that all individuals can use medical services as preventative, curative, and rehabilitative care when they need it regardless of their income levels. Universal healthcare guarantees that these services are available to everyone. The U.S. is in talks now for a single payer system which would provide health insurance in place of private companies to bring more access to medical to the lower class and the thousands of under or uninsured. Review and Discussion Description of Conjoint Analysis and Examples of Business Applications Conjoint analysis is a quantitative methodology that measures the perceived values of various possible product designs (Calantone Di Benedetto, 1990). Respondents participating in conjoint analyses view several variations in product concepts and then assign ranks with respect to their individual preferences (Calantone Di Benedetto, 1990). The analysis of these responses can be used to identify the respective utility that is associated with each of the attributes ranked by the respondents, and these findings can then be used to identify the combination of attributes that consumers would likely most prefer (Calantone Di Benedetto, 1990). Decades of fire suppression campaigns have led to an accumulation of ladder fuels within forests across this region. Both of these factors are now contributing to more frequent and more extreme fires in recent years. These catastrophic fires cause significant changes to ground cover along stream corridors. The loss of ground cover significantly increases the amount of sediment entering watersheds, which can alter both temperature and dissolved oxygen levels throughout the system. The purpose of this paper is to examine the changes in water temperature and dissolved oxygen concentration associated with wildfire, how these changes can be controlled, how effective these controls are, and what more can be done. II.Temperature Fire can alter stream temperature in several different ways. First, and probably most short lived, is the immediate temperature spikes caused by the active burning. Second, fire has the potential to reduce overhead canopy cover, thus increasing light penetration and absorbance by the water. Finally, additions of large amounts of sediment (which increases the turbidity of water bodies) can increase the amount of light absorbed thereby increasing the water temperature. Temperatures in streams can spike during active burning and kill many aquatic invertebrates and vertebrates. In addition to this immediate consequence, the loss ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
