How Did The Schlieffen Plan Fail
The very last thing that the Germans wished for was a war on two fronts. Unfortunately for them,
they got one. In preparation, Germany came up with a plan called the Schlieffen Plan. It was first
created in 1897 and took about nine years to complete entirely! The biggest flaw of the plan was
that it was based completely on theory. This whole plan was basically just a guess as to what
would occur. From July to August of 1914, it turned out that this plan was utterly wrong.
Germany s Chief of the Imperial German General Staff, Alfred Von Schlieffen, created the
Schlieffen Plan. The Schlieffen plan was made to prevent this two front war between Germany and
Austria Hungary. The idea was to find a plan that would adapt to the changes that had happened ...

He was replaced with Helmuth Von Moltke who had decided to make a few changes to the plan. He
only wanted to march through Belgium, not the Netherlands. Very obviously, the Schlieffen plan
still failed due to the lack of preparation for the Russian invasion. Other factors as to why this
plan failed were that they miscalculated Belgium s resistance, and they did not have enough men.
The Schlieffen plan was not flexible at all, once started, there was no turning back or changing it.
At the Battle of Mons, the British Expeditionary Force resisted and killed several of the German
soldiers. Moltke and his men were defeated at the battle of Marne in September of 1914. They had
been defeated and were now entering a two front war.
The Schlieffen plan was not successful for the Germans. They were unprepared, and had
underestimated their enemies. The main reason as to why the Schlieffen plan failed was that the
Germans were too stubborn to change or adjust it once it had been finalized. The plan was not
flexible at all and Moltke would refuse to budge from the original plan. Schlieffen s plan, although
it took nine years to finalize, was not well thought out after they attacked France. If the Germans
had been willing to change the plan a little, it may have

Analysis Of A Clean Well-Lighted Place By Ernest Hemingway
Ernest Hemingway is a well known author of many short stories. He was born in Oak Park,
Illinois. He was starting to be known as a good author when he first published his firsts stories.
Hemingway even earned a Nobel Prize in Literature. Eventually, he committed suicide by
shooting himself. His writing remains well known. One story he wrote was called A Clean,
Well Lighted Place. Hemingway wrote this story about an old man who stays late at a cafe
where two waiters were working at. The old man would even stay late when no one else was in
the cafe. The waiters, especially the younger one, were becoming impatient with the old man.
The older waiter did not seem to mind much. As the story goes on, Hemingway gives the reader
a good contrast between the waiters. There is also a sense of depression or abandonment in the
story. This story can be seen as a reflection of the impact of age because of the contrast between
the waiters, the loneliness of the old man, and the emphasis of the use of nada. As someone reads
this story, it is clear that there is contrast between the two waiters. Hemingway writes the dialogue
in a way that readers can tell there is an age difference between the two waiters. The waiters begin
to talk about what each of them have. The older waiter is clearly older because, he says, You have
youth, confidence, and a job... (Hemingway 169). The waiters have an age difference which shows
throughout the story. There is another line where the older waiter says,

British Socialization And British Moralization
Highlighting the absurdity in the belief that socialization, particularly British socialization, is an
indicator an individual s (un)likely descent into barbarism, William Golding explores a narrative
in which a plane crash has left a group of adolescent boys stranded on an island, in his novel
Lord of the Flies . Through the mild jingoism and naivete of his characters, Ralph, Jack, and
Piggy, Golding demonstrates that believing a British upbringing is inherently moralizing is not
only a flawed judgement, but also leaves space for an abundance of disappointment. Of all the
boys, the one who distinctively establishes himself as more knowledgeable than the rest is Piggy.
Piggy, with his fierce rationality and intellect, is an astute believer in the moralizing nature of
socialization. Thus, he goes to extensive lengths in order to maintain the remnants of English
society the boys have attempted to establish on the island. Most notably are his efforts to preserve
the sanctity of the conch. In the opening chapter, he is ecstatic when he and Ralph stumble upon
the conch and exclaims, We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting. (Chapter 1, pg. 16) For
him, this shell signifies that all is not lost, that although they make be away from the comfort of
their superior English society, there is still some semblance of order and discipline. Any disrespect
or disregard for this symbol frustrates him, instilling in him utter disbelief that good English boys
like themselves

Group Treatment For PTSD
While America still wages war on terrorism the effects of these wars are very costly. Many
Americans are still coming home with mild or severe cases of post traumatic stress disorder
(PTSD). Also, there are many ways to treat PTSD and groups are highly considered for treatment
for PTSD. For example, according, to Sloan, Bovin, Schnurr (2012) Group treatments for PTSDare
assumed to involve a number of mechanisms that offer benefit beyond those provided by the
individual therapy format. First, patients with PTSD are often socially isolated and have difficulty
trusting others (p. 690). They further write, Group treatment provides a safe environment for
patients with PTSD to become more socially connected with others and offers the opportunity...

Researchers have the opportunity to support a breadth of populations by guiding practitioners in the
optimal construction and delivery of group therapy (p. 196).
Logistics is a challenge in all facets of group therapy and with groups it is cost effective to run
groups. For example. Christensen Feeney (2016) state, Despite the importance of group therapy
research, new researchers in the field might be overwhelmed by the logistics of studying such
complex interpersonal processes. Specifically, it is challenging to theoretically conceptualize and
statistically analyze interpersonal perceptions within group therapy (p. 196).
Subsequently they go on saying, Understanding these interpersonal perceptions requires the formal
recognition that a given perception is nested within a dyad that is nested within a group.
Thankfully, the social relations model (SRM; Kenny, 1994) provides group researchers with both a
theory and an analytic structure for understanding interpersonal perceptions (p.

Benjamin West s Appreciation Of Affectionate Marriage

25 April 2017 The Commemoration of Affectionate Marriage
Benjamin West combines Neoclassicism and a baroque style composition to create a scene greater
than an average portrait in Mr. and Mrs. John Custance, 1778. In turn, the content within this
theatrical setting illustrates the change of attitude towards marriage during the late eighteenth
century England, especially through the interaction of allegories. The 60Вј x 84в…ќ oil on canvas
painting was created to celebrate the union of John Custance and Frances Beauchamp Proctor. The
painting was created the same year the couple was wedded. By the end of the eighteenth century,
the concept of marriage had faced various ideological developments, which was indicative of the
broader social and economic growth during this period. West takes into account the desire for
affectionate marriages rather than ones solely based in economic need through compositional
elements and symbolism.

and Mrs. John Custance rises above the genre of portraiture to represent the new ideology of
marriage in the late eighteenth century of England. The strong compositional elements coupled
with Neoclassical and a Baroque stylistic feature indicates the wealth of the subjects but also gives
emphasis to the actual union. Without the grandeur style of allegories, the painting would not edge
towards the historical painting genre. The combination of Hymen and Cupid is instrumental in
developing the theme of the painting and the painting s prestige towards the historical genre. The
presentation of the newlyweds with figures from antiquity gives a divine quality to their union. The
overall stylistic features mirror the concept of affectionate marriages by merging the meanings of
Cupid and Hymen and changing the focus of the painting to the interaction of the couple. West
fashions a painting that is morally instructive and reserved, but retains theatricality from the
Neoclassical

Reflection Paper On Counselors
Analytical Reflection
Introduction
As counselors approach their careers, it is important to make observations of local schools with
counseling opportunities. Observations help give a better understanding of the school culture and
demographics associated within that school. School Data has long been a method used to obtain
school specifics as well as the ability to compare and improve in areas needed. Schools all over
represent different demographics therefore making the statistic sway one way to another. One
school in particular that I was able to observe and get a feel for its culture was Columbia
Elementary School. Columbia Elementary School has one counselor shared between Mountain
View Middle School. The counselor at Columbia is in charge of kindergarten through fourth grade
students. Throughout my observation, I was able to see a multiple amount of counseling techniques.
These counseling techniques addressed multiple levels of behavioral issues among students. In my
efforts to gain as much information as possible I was also able to observe the counselor s efforts in
collaborating with school faculty, parents, as well as students.
Summary of Experiences
Demographic Data of the School Columbia Elementary school is a public school located in
Redding California where 85.8% of the population being of white ethnicity. There are 431 students
enrolled with the majority being of white ethnicity. Columbia Elementary consists of a wide range

Aspects of Home Schooling Essay
Aspects of Home Schooling
Do parents always know what is best for their child? When a parent says that they want to home
school their child are they making the right decision? After all, parents are the ones that teach their
children how to walk and talk. After all, they are the ones that are most interested in making sure
that their child receives the best education, why shouldn t they be the ones to teach their children?
Being home schooled can have both a positive and negative effect on a child.
One such reason why it would be beneficial for a child to be home schooled is to teach values and
morals to the child. Children often learn things at a young age that they should not know; such as

Field experiences provide learning experiences that can not be found in text books
(HSLDA.com). Also having a wide age range of students can benefit both the younger and older
students, since it is possible that both age groups can learn to appreciate each other as well as
learn from one another. There is less pressure on the student who is home schooled since they
have as much time as they need to do the assignment. If a child is ahead in their studies, they do
not have to wait to other students, but a home schooled child can move on and become more
productive When a child is home schooled they are able to go at a pace that is best for them.
However, when deciding whether to place a child in a public school or whether to home school a
child, it is best to take into account the possible cons of home schooling. The parent, now teacher,
must keep in mind that their job is to educate their child. All other career possibilities or aspirations
must be put on hold. The parent s main focus must now be on educating their child. The parent
must be willing to take out the time and energy to devote themselves to education.
Also, the curriculum has become increasingly harder over the years. Children are being taught
certain concepts must earlier than in the past. The parent must keep in mind that they may not have
had the same degree of education in each and every subject. It may

Executive Summary
Company Overview
From an operations management perspective, we compared and contrasted Capital One 360 to
Dezurik. We looked at many different aspects of both businesses in relation to various operational
and business elements. We conclude that both corporations have significant differences based on
manufacturing versus service operations. Dezurik is a pure manufacturing company, which was
founded in 1928, while Capital One 360 is a pure service company that was founded in 2013.

This can be shown in their manufacturing process. Dezurik has some valves that they are mass
producing all of the time. They also are able to take on project builds for custom sizes and
designs. These are two different segments of Dezurik which require two different business
strategies. The first strategy that Dezurik has is to be continuously producing their standard size
valves. This is a fairly straight forward operations strategy. Keep up with the demand for the
valves, and at the same time maintain an efficient product assembly line. The second strategy has
to do with their special product order segment. They do this in several different ways. The first is
to complete the projects in house, which shares the same as the previous strategy. The second
strategy is to have one of their teams build and complete their projects on site. This typically
happens when they work on a project with components that are too big to build in house. The
business strategy for Dezurik is much different. They want to become the largest producer of
valves in the world. They do this by outsourcing some of their components to China, which brings
down production costs. They also need to be certified to be sold in other countries around the
world. They are trying to expand internationally and build up partnerships and relationships with
governments and companies from around the world. In order to keep these relationships intact,

There are few real life case examples that are related to Excoriation Disorder. A 14 years old girl
who was a student has the same disorder. He was itching and scratching her body parts
repetitively and she does this behaviour mostly when she is free and bored. There was a
interview done with the girl and her parents and found out that her father too have the same
behaviour. There were plaques over her arms and chin due to the skin picking behaviour
(Odlaug BL, 2008). There is another similar case which is also a real life case which is a 12
years old girl started picking skin from her nail cuticle until it starts to bled. When she was
trying to be helped and asked why she did it she says it helps her to overcome stress. She
repetitively does that 3 hours a day and went to the extreme and start having skin lesion. She then
started to avoid a family and feel uncomfortable in public then brought in for help by a family
friend (Majlikar.R, 2008).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are few current treatment that can be provided to those who have this Excoriation disorder.
The individual who have this skin picking disorder could go for behavioural treatments or called
as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which can be really helpful. In behavioural treatment they
are being trained with the habit reversal training and mindfulness based CBT. This helps the
individual to identify their picking behaviours pattern which they mean by doing it unconsciously
and make them realize it and understand it. Habit Reversal training also helps them to block their

They all involve two persons or groups that have different ideas that are in conflict with the other.
When these differences arise we as a civilized society usually are able to work out some solution
that may work to the benefit of both parties. This process of resolving these conflicts is called
Dispute Resolution.
There are three basic categories of Dispute Resolution that are often used: 1) Negotiation; 2)

This process does not stop as we grow older. As we age our life experiences have great input on
how our decision making process works and what values, beliefs, and standards that we seek to
uphold.
The actions that occur as a result of our thinking process can be considered Ethics. In essence,
Ethics is a study of our actions that can be considered right or wrong behavior. (Miller, 2012, p.
61) Business Ethics is the study of the decisions we make in the business environment and whether
or not those decisions are good or bad.
Two schools of thought are primary to Ethics and how we subscribe or view them. The first
school is considered Outcome based Ethics. This school of thought is also referred to as
Utilitarianism. The basic premise is that the end result of the action or decision justifies the action
or decision that was made or taken. Another way of putting it is that the ends justify the means.
(Miller, 2012, p. 64) The second school of thought is considered Duty based Ethics. Duty Based
Ethics is often based on religious percepts or philosophical reasoning. On the religious precepts,
one example would be the Christian used of the 10 commandments. Christianity bases its code of

The Life of Fidel Castro
Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz, born in BirГЎn, Cuba on August 13, 1926, changed his country ever
since he came to power. Castro s father, ГЃngel Castro y Argiz, was a wealthy plantation owner and
was an immigrant from Galicia, Spain. His mother, Lina Ruz GonzГЎlez, was ГЃngel s mistress
and house servant while ГЃngel was still married to Maria Luisa Argota. Castro was educated in
many Jesuit boarding schools, from grade school to middle school, in which he was a mediocre
student and was not well behaved, only focusing on playing sports. Although Castro attended a
religious boarding school, it did not affect him in any way and was still getting into trouble as a
young child. After Castro graduated from high school he studied law at the University of Havana.
In his classes, he became very fond of anti imperialism, socialism, and the political climate of
Cuban nationalism, which had helped him while in power. On February 16,1959, Fidel Alejandro
Ruz Castro was sworn in as Prime Minister of Cuba. Castro secretly started to turn to
Communism. He wanted to nationalize plantations and factories. The U.S. is known for its strong
opinion on democracy, so when the U.S. heard this, it caused lots of friction between Cuba and
the U.S. so Castro denied that he wanted to control Cuba as a communist. Castro then signed the
First Agrarian Reform Law, which prohibited foreigners from owning land in Cuba while also
only allowing 993 acres of land per citizen. Castro was then trying to develop

Using A Microscope And View Living Cells
Using a microscope to view living cells
Introduction
Living cells are the most basic unit of life, however, they are impossible to see without the
magnification of a microscope. There are different types of microscopes with alterations to serve a
specific function, but the general use is the same. It is a tool invented with a curved lense that
magnifies things that cannot be seen with the naked eye. A microscopecan be used to see many
things, in this particular lab they were used to observe cells of different organisms. We began by
looking at a few sample slides of euglena, salmonella, and lilium and recording our observations.
Then we created the slides ourselves with living matter. The first set of cells that we looked at
were onion cells, which we looked at by gathering a sample of onion epidermis from one of the
onion s layers and creating a slide to be placed on the stage of the microscope. Next, we took a
look at human cheek cells by obtaining a sample and again creating a slide by swabbing the inside
of a mouth with a toothpick. Finally, we looked at pond water by creating a slide with a small
amount that was collected in a dropper.
Purpose
The purpose of this lab was to gain more knowledge on the use of lab equipment, focusing
principally on the microscope by observing a variety of cells underneath its magnifying lense at
different levels of objective power and recording those observations.

Private Prisons Are The Operation Of A Prison
The need of private detainment facilities has immediately created all through numerous years.
Private jails are the operation of a jail by a privately owned business under contract with a nearby,
state, or potentially central government, frequently as a revenue driven business. With the gigantic
development inside the prisonmasses coming to fruition because of the War on Drugs and extended
usage of confinement, correctional facility clog and expanding costs ended up being logically
dubious for neighborhood, state, and focal governments. With this expanding criminal equity
framework, private business interests saw an open entryway for improvement, and thusly, private
part nearness in penitentiaries moved from the direct contracting of organizations to contracting for
the aggregate organization and operation of entire confinement offices. Close by, the development
and increment of private detainment facilities as a few extra associations there are upsides and

Why Did Wood Construction Play A Role In Greek Architecture
For my junior research project, I want to focus on architectural structures and architects in Greece.
I will be researching about the process which the architects got their influences, the process of how
Greek architecture evolved over time. Greek architecture began evolving in the 7th 6th century
BCE and their use of materials began with mud brick and timber, stone, limestone, wood, etc...until
reaching marble which was used by Ionic architects in the 6th century. The architects focused on
specific details of the buildings in addition to a focus on temples and were influenced by others,
Egypt for example, not only in buildings but also figures. Democracy and events/ the society s
culture can also be seen as an influential component to Greek architecture. As I continue to research

A Code Hero in Hemingway s Books Essay
A Code Hero in Hemingway s Books
Robert Jordan has been defined as a Hemingway code hero. In Hemingway s books, a code hero is
usually male, as Hemingway s books seem to have a similarity to Hemingway himself. These
code heroes may have been previously wounded or gone through some sort of an ordeal, and so
they could have a drinking problem, or a problem sleeping. They seem to be disillusioned, and/or
self oriented, and are not usually loyal to a large cause, but rather a small group of people or a
relatively small idea or thing. In For Whom the Bell Tolls, Robert Jordan, the code hero, most likely
dies at the end. If it were not for his loyalty to a small group, the events in the novel would
probably not have transpired as they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Indecision could provide a reason for having a sleeping problem, as he does some things other than
sleeping at night, one of the criteria for a code hero.
Disillusionment can be seen as the main contributor to the code hero definition. Jordan s
disillusionment grows throughout the novel, to the point where he doesn t believe in the rebel
cause whatsoever, war itself, or the killing of other human beings in the name of a cause. After
Jordan kills the fascist who wanders near his sleeping bag, he is bothered by a constant feeling
of guilt. It seems that Jordan experiences a change as the novel progresses, but his determination
to complete the very dangerous mission never wavers, even though it becomes very clear that
they will probably not escape. His code hero ethic to do what he needs to do manages to defeat
his feelings for Maria, his growing negative feeling about the cause, and war itself. If Jordan had
simply abandoned the mission, he would have been able to live happily ever after with Maria, but
he would have let general Golz down by not doing what he was sent to do.
At the end of the novel, Jordan ends being injured in the process of trying to escape. He
convinces Maria to leave him and escape with the rest of the band. Agustin even offers to put him
out of his misery, so he doesn t have to face the approaching fascists. Jordan, however, does not
want to go out without a fight. By

The Second Period
I finished weighing in and began to warm up. Same routine as always and soon I was up next.
Ankle bands on and ball of my foot on the line. A handshake, a whistle, and the match begins.
The first takedown came quicker in this match than it did in the last. I tied up, hand fought, and
set up my shots. The match was going my way and I wrestled smart through every scramble,
keeping the upper hand. It was the third period and I had a decent lead. I got another takedown
and turned him to his back. For a second I swear I had him pinned but the referee was not in
position to see it until my opponent was able to put a sliver of space between his shoulder and the
mat. The third period came to an end and I got my hand raised for the 40th time that... Show more

He was tall, the tallest wrestler in the bracket which was a problem for me since I m short and
stocky. Tyler, my wrestlingpartner was six feet tall so that helped me prepare when wrestling taller
opponents. Same game plan regardless and the match began.
In the first period I got in deep on several shots but he was able to get out of bounds and cause us
to reset in the middle of the mat. The second period began and it was my choice of position.
Usually I would choose to defer to the second period but since it was 0 0, I chose bottom position.
In the event of sudden death overtime the wrestler who scored first gets to choose whether they
want to be on top or bottom position. The first overtime would be one minute in the neutral
position and if no one scored then it would be two 30 second periods with each wrestler getting a
chance at top and bottom position. If it s still tied after that we would go to a 30 second sudden
death victory in referee s position, which is the starting position with one wrestler on top and the

Similarities Between Alcohol And LSD
There are many substances in this world that are used and abused in order to achieve pleasing
psychoactive effects. Two substances of such nature that are abused in today s society are alcohol
and LSD. Alcohol is a liquid that is derived from the fermentation of grains and/or fruit (7). LSD is
an ingestible form of lysergic acid which is derived from a fungus called ergot. Both of these drugs
are drastically different with minimal similarities, primarily because alcohol is classified as a
depressant and LSD is classified as a hallucinogen. Even though these drugs differ in many ways,
they are commonly used in unison. Alcohol isn t a drug that s classified in any schedule of drugs
and is legally available to anyone in the United States as long as they are above the age of 21.
Alcohol is widely consumed anywhere from homes, concerts, and festivals. As a drug, alcohol is

Establishing Good Relationships Between Teachers And Students
ESTABLISHING GOOD RELATIONSHIPS
Teaching is a job which involves constant interaction and communication between teachers and
students. In order for communication to be effective, it is important that a good relationship exists
between the two parties.
Since the role of the teacher plays a major factor in student learning (Effect size = 0.93) according
to Hattie (2013), it is vital that a positive relationship occurs. Equally important are the relationships
a student has with his class peers. If students feel safe and comfortable in their learning
environment, they are more willing to take risks and interact with others, which only improves the
quality of learning that takes place.
Therefore, I always try to foster a healthy atmosphere in my classes. The first thing I do as a
teacher, starting on the opening school day and reinforced from then on, is to establish a culture of
respect. This is one of my class expectations and usually there is a poster up to remind everyone
that respect for oneself and each other is paramount. It is only once that is established that positive
communication and relationship building can occur.
It is generally believed that the components of healthy relationships are communication, trust,
respect and love (Townsend, 2014). Clearly, after establishing a line of communication, and
ensuring an environment of respect, trust is the next issue that I work on. Trust building is a
process that varies for each student but I try to initiate

External Analysis Samuel Adams Essay examples
External Environment Analysis Previously, you read about the industry analysis of the beer, wine
and liquor industry and the five forces that affect a firm s ability to serve consumers and turn a
profit. Next, successful companies must recognize and respond to the major forces affecting our
macro environment, for example; stock market decline, increase in unemployment and global
warming. Companies must now consider several external environmental forces while running their
business, in particular, demographics, economics, social, natural, technological and political.

this analysis, we will focus on examining population ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The perception seems to be that Americans are being more frugal because of the economy and
saving more as a precaution. Competition has made the price of beer to a consumer rather
negligible; Anheuser Busch and MillerCoors have the ability to raise the price of beer because of
their large followings. Another factor that could affect the price of beer is global warming, which
you will read about later. Essential to our economy s growth is the growth of small businesses such
as craft breweries. The upcoming national election is approaching and the company Paychex has
identified five important issues facing small businesses today, taxes, regulatory burden, employment
regulations, immigration and retirement security (MarketWatch). Succession is important for small
businesses and breweries as they look to expand or distribute to even more states. The Boston Beer
company has a Brewing the American Dream program that helps provide loans, coaching and
mentoring to small business owners in need of help in sustaining their business.
Sociocultural Environment Our sociocultural environment is the next external environmental force
that looks at trends, values, preferences, behaviors and beliefs. Today consumers have the ability
for mass customization, choosing among a menu of attributes to find the best price, delivery
options and features for a product or service. Specifically for the beer industry, this could be
whether to purchase cans or bottles or a variety

How To Be Learned In My Antonia
The American West: Things Learned from My Antonia The story, My Antonia by Willa Cather
holds many historically accurate information; especially about the way of life on the Nebraska
frontier. Through the Adventures of Jim and Antonia there is much to be learned about the
American West. Be it the hardships of winter, the monetary struggles of immigrants into the land,
the trials of farming, or humble living of everyday citizens; the American West had plenty of
learning opportunities. These learning opportunities were not only for people of that time, but
for people even today in this era. Winters of the American west were extremely difficult, constant
storms, food shortages and freezing temperatures; all of which made the winters so trying. In
Dee Brown s Book, The American West on page 152 she says, Homesteaders who refused to quit
and they were in the majority were faced with a hard winter. Many had no money, no credit, no
food; some had no fuel or clothing. The frontier was no place to be during the cold and bitter
winter months. Some families, like the Shimerda family, were not fully prepared and... Show more

bolt of gingham and sheeting. She cut squares of cotton cloth and we sewed them together into a

an abundance of wealth percolated into the Metropolis, it seeped to the humble people, making
them less humble and more demanding. It seemed that life was actually better during the humbling
times where money was scarce. The life on the frontier was not always easy, but it was

International Adoption Analysis
Differing Viewpoints
The process of International Adoption raises passionate emotions and arguments on different
factors involving the process. Although organizations and groups are present in support of mainly
the proponent side, some are swayed by policies involved. Bethany Christian Services believes in
performing international adoptions as long as they follow the U.S policy involving court s consent
and the foreign countries policy. Whereas UNICEF will only perform international adoptions if the
process is done through the Hague Convention.
One group that clearly represents the common mission of International Adoption is Bethany
Christian Services (BCS). Through their ministries they aid to foreign children in over eighty
locations (www.buildingyourfamily.com, 1998 2016). With their large amount of locations they are
able to reach children and families all over the country, not only physically but emotionally as well.
Bethany Christian Services states, We feel it is our job to provide ministries for orphans and
vulnerable children (www.buildingyourfamily.com, 1998 2016). Because of their stance, they have
taken many actions towards this law. Those actions being: providing ministry, adoption services,

A Brief Note On Employment And Life Decisions
Employment and Life Decisions The decision of finding an organization that you can serve
using your strengths, passions, and gifts is an important one. You will most likely look for a
role that matches your domain of knowledge, as well as where you can stretch that knowledge,
while gaining experience in progressing your career. Ramona is a bright new graduate at the top
of her class, and has been presented with an opportunity to begin her career with a seemingly
successful and popular company. However, before she makes a decision to pursue the offer of
employment, she should also consider factors such as cultural fit, values alignment, growth
opportunities, legal considerations, as well as that intrinsic barometer that it is an opportunity
worth pursuing. Gaining Awareness of Who You Are I would advise Ramona to first take
inventory of who she is as an individual, and the goals and aspirations that she has as she
launches her new career. This might include identifying what her core values are, and prioritizing
each one. Next, I would advise Ramona to assess and catalog her strengths and weaknesses from
both a personal and professional perspective. This valuable insight will equip her with the self
awareness needed in evaluating and making the decision to accept or decline the offer of
employment. Assessing the Organization for Fit Once Ramona is equipped with her individual self
awareness, she will need to assess the prospective organization to determine whether or

How The West Overcounts Its Water Supplies
Abraham Lustgarten has written a very informative article that is published by Pro Publica and
titled How the West Overcounts Its Water Supplies. In great detail, he analyzes the drought
situation in Arizona and California to draw attention the underlying cause: the miscounting of
available water. There is miscounting because officials are refusing to legally accept that the major
water resource of the West the Colorado River is interconnected with underground water resources.
All in all, Lustgarten writes a convincing article that effectively addresses the need for officials to
recognize the interconnection of ground and surface water so that water shortage in the West can
be better managed; he does this through his ability to gain the... Show more content on

mentions is John Bredehoeft, a leading hydrologist and former director of federal governments
Water Program, who clearly states the importance of accurate water counting. All these
individuals help a reader to trust the information that the author gives. Looking further into the
author s use of appeals, Lustgarten also uses Pathos (emotional appeal) and Logos (rationality),
which help prove his point. Lustgarten ends the article on a very skeptical note and an
unpromising remark on the future, which makes the reader feel the urge to take action upon the
issue. He says, Until state officials do [realize the interconnection of ground and surface water
legally], it seems unlikely that there will be any real solution to managing the Southwest s
strained water resources for the future. Along with Pathos, Logos is also very well used. There
are a lot of direct quotes from well informed experts that bluntly support his stance. These
informed opinions from experts, help the reader rationalize how valid Lustgarten s points are.
Also adding to Logos is his overuse of multiple facts to prove a single point. Further appealing to
the audience s rationality, he explains why officials aren t putting in the change to help solve the
water accounting issue. He then very logically proves where the fault in the official s mindset is.
He states that officials don t want to inflict change because

The nation that we live in today proudly proclaims its perpetuation of freedom and democracy, and
with these qualities it conveys supreme justice. The United States government and its constitution
are regarded by many as the pinnacle of civil government, as the ultimate projection of civil justice.
However, no government is perfect, for man himself is inherently imperfect. For over two centuries
since its birth, The U.S. constitution, which many hold in such high esteem, has been continuously
molded to fit our ever changing society. Many of these changes have been good and necessary,
while others have caused unforeseen problems. Even in light of harm to society, however, the

Throughout this argument for marijuana legalization, the notion of justice will be repeatedly called
upon, and the justice of the current system and policy will be analyzed and disputed. In order for
this analysis to happen, justice itself must first be defined thoroughly and given precise parameters.
According to Webster s Dictionary, justice is the quality of being just, impartial, or fair, and
conformity to truth, fact, or reason. Justice from this point on will include the following: the logical
execution of law or standard based solely on proven facts or truth, and the existence of fairness and
equality throughout these actions.
The drug war that the U.S. government is waging is not limited to law enforcement crackdowns
and mandatory prison sentences. According to the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention,
declines in teen drug use are preceded by a generally higher awareness of the harms of drugs (Torr

have put it to their use. Recently the Office of National Drug Control Policy, or the ONDCP, has
used the media, specifically television, as a tool to flaunt anti drug propaganda to the American
public. Television commercials about the dangers of marijuana use have flooded T.V. networks. In

How has Steven Spielberg used film techniques to make the viewer feel more involved?
Introduction: The film Schindler s List is based on a book called Schindler s Ark, written by the
Australian novelist Thomas Keneally. It follows Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson) a rich German
businessman as he devotes his life to saving as many refugees as possible, most of them being
Jewish Polish. He does this by employing them in his factories, where they make pots, pans and
later on in the film faulty ammunition for the German Nazi military. Oscar employed more than
500 people for several years costing him all of his savings, apart from a few dollars and a golden

them to give the Jewish people water however it was more enjoyable to watch them suffer.
Spielberg used a number of close ups on the suffering Jewish people. This shows the audience
how little room they have are and how mistreated they are by the Nazis. The final important
camera technique is the zoom along the length of hose. This has been used to enphasize the

Cybercrime And The World Of Cybercrime Essay
In today s world, people have become very used to using high technology in the 21st century
such as computers, smartphones, and recently, smart watches. This technology is so common
that many people rely on their devices just to perform some basic tasks for some of the most
common jobs. In fact, these devices also help people stay in contact with one another. While this
new age of technology has brought along many great innovations and made the lives of many
people a lot easier, it has also opened up the world of cybercrime. Cybercrime is particularly
dangerous because it is significantly more difficult for a criminal to get caught due to the fact that
they may be all the way on the other side of the globe. The most common cybercrimes that people
will hear of is identity theft and credit card scams because those crimes are among the most difficult
to solve and the criminals usually have multiple victims. The worst part is that there are not enough
people studying computerscience or any other science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)

most sensitive information private which would mean making computers more secure and teaching
people about the basics of online safety. There have been many innovations in cybersecurity to

Similarities Between Jeffersonian And Jacksonian Eras
The main themes I noticed in this week s material were pushing the powers of the presidency and
curbing those powers, manifest destiny, changes within the political parties, and the idea of fighting
for the little guy.
Some significant continuities I saw in the Jeffersonian and Jacksonian eras were the fundamentals
of the party in power. From Jefferson s presidency throughout Jackson s, sitting presidents typically
advocated for small government and for a strict construction of the constitution (Milkis and Nelson
131). Conversely, some significant changes I saw were to the political parties themselves, both the
Federalists and the Democratic Republicans saw many changes to their parties. And lastly, Jackson

Up until Jackson s presidency, a veto was only used to stop a piece of legislation if the President
viewed it as unconstitutional (Milkis and Nelson 137). However, Jackson believed that a
president should reject any bill he felt would injure the nation (Milkis and Nelson 138). This new
interpretation of the veto gave the President the power to reject legislation on personal opinion
alone. Although Congress was clearly disturbed with Jackson s veto, he maintained the people s
faith and was reelected as president the same year (Milkis and Nelson 138 139).
What I was most surprised by this week was Jackson s wording in much of the Indian Removal
Act. There were a couple places that seemed to just fall short of inciting violence. Despite knowing
the carnage that followed, I guess I expected the bill itself to be less odious. Jackson also
announced his legal inability to protect Indians from state authorities if they chose not to volunteer
their lands, clearly suggesting that any lingering natives in state territories were free to abuse
(Brinkley and Dyer 94). Obviously, the intent was nefarious, I was just shocked that there was no

Studying with Classical Music Will Increase Concentration...
Literature Review
Topic: Studying with classical music will increase concentration ability, allowing for quicker
problem solving.
Name of article: Does music help you study? Author: Sheela Doraiswamy Website: Mind the
science gap Date published: October 8 2012
1:Different background noise/music was used to test students recalling abilities. The test was
carried out in a quiet room with first, no sound then a steady state speech (in this case three was
repeated), changing state speech (numbers from 1 9 were repeated in a random order), then liked
and disliked music. The study showed no significant difference between changing state speech , or
liked (pop) and disliked (metal) music. All three were equally distracting. Steady state speech
produced higher results because it is easier for the brain to tune out repetitive noises.
Value: This study successfully shows that certain noises/music can be more distracting than others.
The author refers to studies conducted by universities and uses information from
professionals.Limitations: Even though classical music was not played during this study, it shows
how other music can be a distraction to concentration.
This study uses a variety of noises/music and can therefore not be considered biased. It is a reliable
source because it was carried out at the University Of Wales in a controlled environment. Although
it is does not exactly tie in with my hypothesis, it is still valid as it

Recently single sex schools have made a comeback, and this has raised the question of whether they
are better than coeducational schools. In single sex educational systems, male and female students
are separated and taught in different school buildings or classrooms. In a historical point of view,
only boys were given the opportunity to pursue formal education in the United States. Schools for
women began to spread in the beginning of the nineteenth century, almost one hundred years before
they were granted the right to vote. By the end of the twentieth century coeducational schooling had

Advocates state that students can achieve greater academic success once taught separately,
especially girls. According to Leonard Sax, psychologist and founder of the National Association
for the Advancement of Single Sex Public Education, Single sex education works better. Kids who
attend single sex schools not only do better academically but also have a better attitude toward
school and a better outlook on life. He also argues that placing them in separate classrooms wouldn
t accomplish as much as separate schools, (NASSE). Sax believes that boys learn differently than
girls and take more time to develop. He uses research about brain maturation, hearing, vision and
temperature sensitivity to support his claim, and argues that boys typically receive more attention
from teachers and have less chances of harassment, and at often times very distracting. He points
out, What we re doing right now pretending that gender doesn t matter is not working, he says. We
are losing ground.
The effects can be minor, for example, studies have indicated girls perform better when the
classroom temperature is warm, while boys perform better in cooler temperatures. More
considerable effects include higher test scores. In the journal, Single sex Education: What Does

Slope On Calculus

Introduction
Slope is a very important foundational and abstract mathematical topic that emerges in the
secondary mathematics curricula. It is a topic applied in many fields, including the sciences, but its
conceptual development marks a significant transition to advanced mathematical courses as in the
study of calculus. By definition, calculus is the study of change and motion. In a calculus class, a
conceptual understanding of slope is extremely crucial because it allows for the study of abstract
concepts that rely on application of slope as a rate of change. However, beginning students studying

Wicked Women
Women are treacherous beings who only wish to bring trouble and torment to mankind. In Roger
Lancelyn Green s King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table, women are portrayed as
horrible human beings because they are evil, disloyal, and tempting.
The first reason women are considered horrible human beings is because they are portrayed as evil.
On the very day of the battle she found her husband King Urience lying asleep on his couch; and
at once she called for one of her damsels to her and said:
Go fetch me my lord s sword, for I never saw a better moment than this wherein to slay him!

her arms were about him (p.253). In the previous quotation a damsel is tempting Sir Percivale to

Women also show that they are tempting when Lady Ragnell tricks Sir Gawain to marry her. ... if I
take you as my wife, will you tell me the answer to Gromer Somer Joure s riddle? Oh yes, indeed,
Sir Gawain, surely and indeed I will (p.190). In the quotation above Lady Ragnell promises to

Theme Of Magic In The Tempest
In The Tempest , there are two different types of magic that are being explored, one is the art of
evil through the use of Black Magic and the other being the study of meta physics and the
unknown through the use of White Magic. The black aspect of magic is revealed through the
character of the evil witch Sycorax. The white aspect of magic is revealed through the well
developed character of Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan. The good aspect of magic is
developed to a much greater extent than the evil aspect of magic. The black magic, whether in the
form of alchemy, astrology, or temptation, deceives with half truths and riddles that lure a person
with false promises, white magic is the art of bringing out the potential that inheres in nature, seeing

daughter Miranda whose name means miraculous (she who ought to be wondered at). The epitome
of purity, goodness, and beauty, Miranda implores her father to stop the tempestand spare the lives

might personally thank Gonzalo for saving their lives for providing Prospero with books and

inevitable, at the same time it will analyse positive and negative influences of conflict and dispute
in a project. Then go on to suggest how to balance and coordinate conflict and dispute from all

2.3 Schedule To some extent, conflict and dispute may occur on division of opinions about the
order of the process and the length of time needed to complete a work. At the beginning of
planning phase of a project, some team members may think four weeks is needed to complete
their work, but the project manager may think it is too long, a half of the time is totally enough.
2.4 The Cost In the way of project process, it always clashes on the various cost of the work
required. Although a general commercial project usually has a budget, there are many
uncontrollable factors in actual progress, delays and cost overruns hurt financially to the point.
Then inevitable conflict and dispute will concentrate on who should bear the cost for over the
budget. 2.5 Priority level A multi project environment adds another set of disagreements. If a
number of projects are simultaneous, it may impede paces of other projects in order to guarantee
the achievement of one project s objectives (Kerzner 2000). When two or more simultaneous
projects need one member to attend, it will create a conflict and dispute of priority level
(Bernasco et al 1999; Chi and Nystrom 1998). This phenomenon is also a kind of resource
problems. 2.6 Communication disorders Verma (1998) attributed communication disorders as the
most prevalent causes of conflict and dispute in projects. The following are the leading causes of

A Sound County Almanac Summary
Aldo Leopold published a book in 1949, titled A Sound County Almanac. In the second half of
his book he discusses and creates this idea of what a land ethic should be. The land ethic simply
enlarges the boundaries of the community to include soils, waters, plants, and animals, or
collectively: the land. (239) Land ethics is a simple concept with a large amount of complexity
because it is arduous to incorporate every community member s thoughts and beliefs on how to
steward the land. In class we used two periods to create a list of 10 land ethic commandments.
Which is only 60 students compared to the United States which is 319 million people. This large
population number may describe the lull of people understanding the concept of land ethic... Show

The Wonder behind The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank...
The Wonder behind The Wonderful Wizard of Oz Often, people who enjoy reading are found
disappointed by the film versions of their favorite books. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L.
Frank Baum and The Wizard of OZ movie produced by Vincent Fleming serve as a good
example of a distorted transition from text to film. While the novel was originally created to
teach that anything is possible with hard work and is a straightforward children s book, the film
tacks on many unintended morals, further changing the stories meaning. While which one
preferred is only an opinion, adapted aspect s of the novel including the reality of Oz, Kansas,
and Dorothy s characterization each alter what the story was meant to be, which was an
innocent fairytale. In the film, Dorothy travels to Oz by being sucked into a cyclone and then
landing in the middle of a magical realm. Once the novels reaches it s ending, Dorothy wakes up,
having bumped her head, revealing that Oz was nothing but a dream all along. In the novel Oz
is a real place that Dorothy travels to and from. This idea is much more exciting for the audience
and especially children because it makes the story line more believable, allowing them to get lost
in their imagination. Culver states, Baum s text describes a different relation between fantasy and
reality and how his Dorothy doesn t try to run away and isn t dreaming but it merely confronts by
accident a fantastic world contagious with and just as real as ¬¬Kansas . This

Black Beauty Analysis
Black Beauty: An Autobiography of a Horse is about a horse named, Black Beauty, who hates
breaking in and is being attached to unbearable, heavy equipment. Slowly as the story continues,
his miserable pain turns into pride when he carries his master on his back. The excerpt from The
Georges and the Jewels is about Abby, a horserider, who has been knocked off by an unskilled
horse. Later on in the story, lying on the floor, she is reminded of her favorite horse, a sweet boy
mare and how she enjoyed riding her every time. In the excerpts, Black Beauty: An Autobiography
of a Horse by Anna Sewelland Georges and the Jewels by Jane Smiley, the authors use first person
point of view to demonstrate the character s development throughout the story. The first person
point of view is very vivid on how the characters feel, which lets the reader thoroughly understand
the character s transitions easily.
The story Black Beauty: An Autobiography of a Horse, gives the reader an elaborate
description of Black Beauty s feelings through the first person point of view. For example, in the
text it states A great piece of cold hard steel as thick as a man s finger to be pushed into one s
mouth, between one s teeth...so that no way in the world can you get rid of the nasty hard
thing, it is very bad! Yes, very bad! This tells the reader that Black Beauty didn t appreciate the
cold hard steel that had been put through her mouth. He regretted the fact of breaking in and
wanted to go back to his old life. The first quote matters because, it shows how Black Beauty had
felt in the beginning, frustrated and regretful. And, the author clearly demonstrates how Black
Beauty feels through first person, since he states Very bad! Yes, very bad! This statement really
brings out the fact that he hated breaking in. And, if it were to be 3rd person, Black beauty s
feelings wouldn t clearly be demonstrated, and rather the feelings of author would have been
demonstrated. Black Beauty changed, in the text states It certainly did feel queer, but must say I
felt rather proud to carry my master, and as he continued to ride me a little every day I soon
became accustomed to it. This shows how Black Beauty had changed from the beginning

Health Leadership in the Developing World
Posting #3: Health leadership in the developing world
The developing world faces many critical health challenges. Addressing the multitude of concerns
regarding health delivery can seem overwhelming, and it is critical that the national leadership is
able to define specific goals to improve the healthcare infrastructure of these nations and devise
targeted solutions. According to the article Attracting and Retaining Nurse Tutors in Malawi, the
nursing profession in Malawi faces a critical shortage of nurse technicians, at a rate of up to 80
percent in certain areas (Caffrey Frelick 2006:1). The problems in Malawi lay in the willingness of
students to enter the profession as well as a shortage of educators. Without nurse tutors to train
nurse technicians, it will be a struggle to provide the countryside with needed health services in the
future.
To enhance the attractiveness of positions in the health field, enhanced salary and free housing are
now offered to nursing educators by the Ministry of Health. As a result of this program, the number
of clinical instructors has increased. However, doubts remain about the long term feasibility of this
strategy. Salaries only provide a one term incentive for workers and weak human resources
management systems and practices hinder effectiveness and negatively affect follow through on the
conditions of scholarships, deployment, enforcement of bonding and support for and
communication with seconded government workers (Caffrey

subtests and provides three overall scores: verbal IQ, performance IQ, and full scale IQ (Taylor,

Gun Violence In The United States
Over the last decade, we have seen gun violence in the United States hit astronomical figures.
Over 275,000 American lives have been lost due to gun violence alone, and as of December 2015,
there has been more mass shootings in the United States than days in the year. President Obama
has expressed his desire to create some sort of effective legislation to reduce the gun violence in the
United States. The lackadaisical attempt by congressional lawmakers to pass any sort of significant
gun control legislation has allowed the gun violence to reach epidemic levels. In December of
2012, one of the worst mass shootings in United States history occurred, bringing the prospect of
legitimate gun reform on to the table. In the chilly morning of December... Show more content on

The first reason was that Obama was able to work with the special interest groups in order to
gain support from lobbyist. Billy Tauzin and Karen Ignagani were two people who played vital
roles in the passing of the Affordable Care Act. Tauzin was used to get PhRMA on board, a
major player in the failure of Clinton s bill, and Ignagni was able to get AHIP on board as well,
two major victories towards Obama s attempt for healthcare reform (p.257 264). Reversely,
Obama was not able to have success with the gun lobby during his attempt, as the NRA would
shoot down any sort of gun restrictions. Lastly, and the biggest victory during Obamacare, was
having a Democrat run House and Senate. He had to promise some allocated funds to Mary
Landrieu (D LA), Ron Wyden (D OR), and Blanche Lincoln (D AR) in order to secure the votes,
as well as pass the final vote before the New Year and the arrival of the newly elected
congressman, but it was passed at the final minute, thanks to the Democrat majority in the House
and Senate (p.292 295). His gun reform legislation did not have that much luck, as it was a
republican run House, and many democrats had support from the NRA as well, so passing
anything would have been near impossible. Overall, the timing of the Sandy Hook Massacre came
during a tough time to pass anything, let alone a very controversial

Disadvantages Of Market Failure
Market failure is a situation that occurs when resources are not allocated effectively or efficiently.
In my opinion, market failure means that market allocation is not satisfied everyone s interest. And
it will exist forever.
For example, it appears monopolistic conduct in the market which decreases the role of
competition. And company which produce common product lost market so that lost interest. This
behavior is not reasonable allocate resources and satisfy other companies interest. It is market

Located between the parietal and visceral layer is the pericardial fluid, this is emissions of
pericardial cells that helps reduce friction between layers as the heart moves and thumps. The
heart has three layers; the epicardium (made up of two tissue layers the visceral layer and
serous pericardium layer). This layer of the heart is made out of mesothelium which is a thin

  • 2. How Did The Schlieffen Plan Fail The very last thing that the Germans wished for was a war on two fronts. Unfortunately for them, they got one. In preparation, Germany came up with a plan called the Schlieffen Plan. It was first created in 1897 and took about nine years to complete entirely! The biggest flaw of the plan was that it was based completely on theory. This whole plan was basically just a guess as to what would occur. From July to August of 1914, it turned out that this plan was utterly wrong. Germany s Chief of the Imperial German General Staff, Alfred Von Schlieffen, created the Schlieffen Plan. The Schlieffen plan was made to prevent this two front war between Germany and Austria Hungary. The idea was to find a plan that would adapt to the changes that had happened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was replaced with Helmuth Von Moltke who had decided to make a few changes to the plan. He only wanted to march through Belgium, not the Netherlands. Very obviously, the Schlieffen plan still failed due to the lack of preparation for the Russian invasion. Other factors as to why this plan failed were that they miscalculated Belgium s resistance, and they did not have enough men. The Schlieffen plan was not flexible at all, once started, there was no turning back or changing it. At the Battle of Mons, the British Expeditionary Force resisted and killed several of the German soldiers. Moltke and his men were defeated at the battle of Marne in September of 1914. They had been defeated and were now entering a two front war. The Schlieffen plan was not successful for the Germans. They were unprepared, and had underestimated their enemies. The main reason as to why the Schlieffen plan failed was that the Germans were too stubborn to change or adjust it once it had been finalized. The plan was not flexible at all and Moltke would refuse to budge from the original plan. Schlieffen s plan, although it took nine years to finalize, was not well thought out after they attacked France. If the Germans had been willing to change the plan a little, it may have ... • 3. Analysis Of A Clean Well-Lighted Place By Ernest Hemingway Ernest Hemingway is a well known author of many short stories. He was born in Oak Park, Illinois. He was starting to be known as a good author when he first published his firsts stories. Hemingway even earned a Nobel Prize in Literature. Eventually, he committed suicide by shooting himself. His writing remains well known. One story he wrote was called A Clean, Well Lighted Place. Hemingway wrote this story about an old man who stays late at a cafe where two waiters were working at. The old man would even stay late when no one else was in the cafe. The waiters, especially the younger one, were becoming impatient with the old man. The older waiter did not seem to mind much. As the story goes on, Hemingway gives the reader a good contrast between the waiters. There is also a sense of depression or abandonment in the story. This story can be seen as a reflection of the impact of age because of the contrast between the waiters, the loneliness of the old man, and the emphasis of the use of nada. As someone reads this story, it is clear that there is contrast between the two waiters. Hemingway writes the dialogue in a way that readers can tell there is an age difference between the two waiters. The waiters begin to talk about what each of them have. The older waiter is clearly older because, he says, You have youth, confidence, and a job... (Hemingway 169). The waiters have an age difference which shows throughout the story. There is another line where the older waiter says, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. British Socialization And British Moralization Highlighting the absurdity in the belief that socialization, particularly British socialization, is an indicator an individual s (un)likely descent into barbarism, William Golding explores a narrative in which a plane crash has left a group of adolescent boys stranded on an island, in his novel Lord of the Flies . Through the mild jingoism and naivete of his characters, Ralph, Jack, and Piggy, Golding demonstrates that believing a British upbringing is inherently moralizing is not only a flawed judgement, but also leaves space for an abundance of disappointment. Of all the boys, the one who distinctively establishes himself as more knowledgeable than the rest is Piggy. Piggy, with his fierce rationality and intellect, is an astute believer in the moralizing nature of socialization. Thus, he goes to extensive lengths in order to maintain the remnants of English society the boys have attempted to establish on the island. Most notably are his efforts to preserve the sanctity of the conch. In the opening chapter, he is ecstatic when he and Ralph stumble upon the conch and exclaims, We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting. (Chapter 1, pg. 16) For him, this shell signifies that all is not lost, that although they make be away from the comfort of their superior English society, there is still some semblance of order and discipline. Any disrespect or disregard for this symbol frustrates him, instilling in him utter disbelief that good English boys like themselves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many Americans are still coming home with mild or severe cases of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Also, there are many ways to treat PTSD and groups are highly considered for treatment for PTSD. For example, according, to Sloan, Bovin, Schnurr (2012) Group treatments for PTSDare assumed to involve a number of mechanisms that offer benefit beyond those provided by the individual therapy format. First, patients with PTSD are often socially isolated and have difficulty trusting others (p. 690). Researchers have the opportunity to support a breadth of populations by guiding practitioners in the optimal construction and delivery of group therapy (p. 196). Logistics is a challenge in all facets of group therapy and with groups it is cost effective to run groups. For example. Christensen Feeney (2016) state, Despite the importance of group therapy research, new researchers in the field might be overwhelmed by the logistics of studying such complex interpersonal processes. Specifically, it is challenging to theoretically conceptualize and statistically analyze interpersonal perceptions within group therapy (p. 196). Subsequently they go on saying, Understanding these interpersonal perceptions requires the formal recognition that a given perception is nested within a dyad that is nested within a group. Thankfully, the social relations model (SRM; Kenny, 1994) provides group researchers with both a theory and an analytic structure for understanding interpersonal perceptions (p. ... • 7. Benjamin West s Appreciation Of Affectionate Marriage 1 Samantha Bradfield Dr. Rachel Chantos Art History 25 April 2017 The Commemoration of Affectionate Marriage Benjamin West combines Neoclassicism and a baroque style composition to create a scene greater than an average portrait in Mr. and Mrs. John Custance, 1778. In turn, the content within this theatrical setting illustrates the change of attitude towards marriage during the late eighteenth century England, especially through the interaction of allegories. The 60Вј x 84в…ќ oil on canvas painting was created to celebrate the union of John Custance and Frances Beauchamp Proctor. The painting was created the same year the couple was wedded. By the end of the eighteenth century, the concept of marriage had faced various ideological developments, which was indicative of the broader social and economic growth during this period. West takes into account the desire for affectionate marriages rather than ones solely based in economic need through compositional elements and symbolism. During ... The strong compositional elements coupled with Neoclassical and a Baroque stylistic feature indicates the wealth of the subjects but also gives emphasis to the actual union. Without the grandeur style of allegories, the painting would not edge towards the historical painting genre. The combination of Hymen and Cupid is instrumental in developing the theme of the painting and the painting s prestige towards the historical genre. The presentation of the newlyweds with figures from antiquity gives a divine quality to their union. The overall stylistic features mirror the concept of affectionate marriages by merging the meanings of Cupid and Hymen and changing the focus of the painting to the interaction of the couple. Observations help give a better understanding of the school culture and demographics associated within that school. School Data has long been a method used to obtain school specifics as well as the ability to compare and improve in areas needed. Schools all over represent different demographics therefore making the statistic sway one way to another. One school in particular that I was able to observe and get a feel for its culture was Columbia Elementary School. Columbia Elementary School has one counselor shared between Mountain View Middle School. The counselor at Columbia is in charge of kindergarten through fourth grade students. Throughout my observation, I was able to see a multiple amount of counseling techniques. These counseling techniques addressed multiple levels of behavioral issues among students. In my efforts to gain as much information as possible I was also able to observe the counselor s efforts in collaborating with school faculty, parents, as well as students. When a parent says that they want to home school their child are they making the right decision? After all, parents are the ones that teach their children how to walk and talk. After all, they are the ones that are most interested in making sure that their child receives the best education, why shouldn t they be the ones to teach their children? Field experiences provide learning experiences that can not be found in text books (HSLDA.com). Also having a wide age range of students can benefit both the younger and older students, since it is possible that both age groups can learn to appreciate each other as well as learn from one another. There is less pressure on the student who is home schooled since they have as much time as they need to do the assignment. If a child is ahead in their studies, they do not have to wait to other students, but a home schooled child can move on and become more productive When a child is home schooled they are able to go at a pace that is best for them. However, when deciding whether to place a child in a public school or whether to home school a child, it is best to take into account the possible cons of home schooling. The parent, now teacher, must keep in mind that their job is to educate their child. All other career possibilities or aspirations must be put on hold. The parent s main focus must now be on educating their child. The parent must be willing to take out the time and energy to devote themselves to education. Capital One 360 Business Report Compare and Contrast Business Report Dezurik Capital One 360 Operations and Supply Chain Management November 12th, 2013 Executive Summary Company Overview From an operations management perspective, we compared and contrasted Capital One 360 to Dezurik. We looked at many different aspects of both businesses in relation to various operational and business elements. We conclude that both corporations have significant differences based on manufacturing versus service operations. Dezurik is a pure manufacturing company, which was founded in 1928, while Capital One 360 is a pure service company that was founded in 2013. Dezurik designs and manufactures valves for use in commercial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be shown in their manufacturing process. Dezurik has some valves that they are mass producing all of the time. They also are able to take on project builds for custom sizes and designs. These are two different segments of Dezurik which require two different business strategies. The first strategy that Dezurik has is to be continuously producing their standard size valves. This is a fairly straight forward operations strategy. Keep up with the demand for the valves, and at the same time maintain an efficient product assembly line. The second strategy has to do with their special product order segment. They do this in several different ways. It is a tool invented with a curved lense that magnifies things that cannot be seen with the naked eye. We began by looking at a few sample slides of euglena, salmonella, and lilium and recording our observations. Then we created the slides ourselves with living matter. The first set of cells that we looked at were onion cells, which we looked at by gathering a sample of onion epidermis from one of the onion s layers and creating a slide to be placed on the stage of the microscope. Next, we took a look at human cheek cells by obtaining a sample and again creating a slide by swabbing the inside of a mouth with a toothpick. Finally, we looked at pond water by creating a slide with a small amount that was collected in a dropper. It seems that Jordan experiences a change as the novel progresses, but his determination to complete the very dangerous mission never wavers, even though it becomes very clear that they will probably not escape. In order for communication to be effective, it is important that a good relationship exists between the two parties. Since the role of the teacher plays a major factor in student learning (Effect size = 0.93) according to Hattie (2013), it is vital that a positive relationship occurs. Equally important are the relationships a student has with his class peers. Although Congress was clearly disturbed with Jackson s veto, he maintained the people s faith and was reelected as president the same year (Milkis and Nelson 138 139). What I was most surprised by this week was Jackson s wording in much of the Indian Removal Act. There were a couple places that seemed to just fall short of inciting violence. Despite knowing the carnage that followed, I guess I expected the bill itself to be less odious. Jackson also announced his legal inability to protect Indians from state authorities if they chose not to volunteer their lands, clearly suggesting that any lingering natives in state territories were free to abuse (Brinkley and Dyer 94). Obviously, the intent was nefarious, I was just shocked that there was no attempt to mask that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Name of article: Does music help you study? Author: Sheela Doraiswamy Website: Mind the science gap Date published: October 8 2012 1:Different background noise/music was used to test students recalling abilities. The test was carried out in a quiet room with first, no sound then a steady state speech (in this case three was repeated), changing state speech (numbers from 1 9 were repeated in a random order), then liked and disliked music. The study showed no significant difference between changing state speech , or liked (pop) and disliked (metal) music. All three were equally distracting. Steady state speech produced higher results because it is easier for the brain to tune out repetitive noises. Value: This study successfully shows that certain noises/music can be more distracting than others. The author refers to studies conducted by universities and uses information from professionals.Limitations: Even though classical music was not played during this study, it shows how other music can be a distraction to concentration. This study uses a variety of noises/music and can therefore not be considered biased. It is a reliable source because it was carried out at the University Of Wales in a controlled environment. He also argues that placing them in separate classrooms wouldn t accomplish as much as separate schools, (NASSE). Sax believes that boys learn differently than girls and take more time to develop. He uses research about brain maturation, hearing, vision and temperature sensitivity to support his claim, and argues that boys typically receive more attention from teachers and have less chances of harassment, and at often times very distracting. He points out, What we re doing right now pretending that gender doesn t matter is not working, he says. We are losing ground. The Wonder behind The Wonderful Wizard of Oz Often, people who enjoy reading are found disappointed by the film versions of their favorite books. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum and The Wizard of OZ movie produced by Vincent Fleming serve as a good example of a distorted transition from text to film. While the novel was originally created to teach that anything is possible with hard work and is a straightforward children s book, the film tacks on many unintended morals, further changing the stories meaning. While which one preferred is only an opinion, adapted aspect s of the novel including the reality of Oz, Kansas, and Dorothy s characterization each alter what the story was meant to be, which was an innocent fairytale. In the film, Dorothy travels to Oz by being sucked into a cyclone and then landing in the middle of a magical realm. Once the novels reaches it s ending, Dorothy wakes up, having bumped her head, revealing that Oz was nothing but a dream all along. In the novel Oz is a real place that Dorothy travels to and from. This idea is much more exciting for the audience and especially children because it makes the story line more believable, allowing them to get lost in their imagination. • 46. Black Beauty Analysis Black Beauty: An Autobiography of a Horse is about a horse named, Black Beauty, who hates breaking in and is being attached to unbearable, heavy equipment. Slowly as the story continues, his miserable pain turns into pride when he carries his master on his back. The excerpt from The Georges and the Jewels is about Abby, a horserider, who has been knocked off by an unskilled horse. Later on in the story, lying on the floor, she is reminded of her favorite horse, a sweet boy mare and how she enjoyed riding her every time. In the excerpts, Black Beauty: An Autobiography of a Horse by Anna Sewelland Georges and the Jewels by Jane Smiley, the authors use first person point of view to demonstrate the character s development throughout the story. The first person point of view is very vivid on how the characters feel, which lets the reader thoroughly understand the character s transitions easily. The story Black Beauty: An Autobiography of a Horse, gives the reader an elaborate description of Black Beauty s feelings through the first person point of view. For example, in the text it states A great piece of cold hard steel as thick as a man s finger to be pushed into one s mouth, between one s teeth...so that no way in the world can you get rid of the nasty hard thing, it is very bad! Yes, very bad! This tells the reader that Black Beauty didn t appreciate the cold hard steel that had been put through her mouth. He regretted the fact of breaking in and wanted to go back to his old life. The first quote matters because, it shows how Black Beauty had felt in the beginning, frustrated and regretful. And, the author clearly demonstrates how Black Beauty feels through first person, since he states Very bad! Yes, very bad! This statement really brings out the fact that he hated breaking in. And, if it were to be 3rd person, Black beauty s feelings wouldn t clearly be demonstrated, and rather the feelings of author would have been demonstrated. According to the article Attracting and Retaining Nurse Tutors in Malawi, the nursing profession in Malawi faces a critical shortage of nurse technicians, at a rate of up to 80 percent in certain areas (Caffrey Frelick 2006:1). The problems in Malawi lay in the willingness of students to enter the profession as well as a shortage of educators. Without nurse tutors to train nurse technicians, it will be a struggle to provide the countryside with needed health services in the future.
