The Soul By Mary Oliver Summary
From the earliest philosophical debates to the latest scientific research and experiments, the issue of
inner being or soul is unanswerable yet. Such spiritual mysterious like the eternal connection
between creatures in nature is a favorite theme among poets. In this poem, Mary Oliver
demonstrates the ideology that soul and consciousnessare not uniquely for humans. The main
themes continue to be the intersection between the human and the natural world, as well as the
limits of language in articulating such a meeting. Although she has been criticized for writing
poetry that assumes a dangerously close relationship of women with nature, she is only strengthened
through an immersion with nature. Writing while walking around the woods, Mary is the kind of
person who scribbles but shared it. Manifesting her experience of touch and feel does a great job to
sum of our reality. The listener is affected by her language and certainly feel more attached to the
environment and the mother earth.
The poet deliberately illustrates the reality of the soul using visual examples to indicate a better
understanding of spirit which is subjective. For instance, selecting iron as a symbol of solid
element requires a great vision which makes an invisible reality more sensible. By giving tangible
examples of other animals, she tries to open the reader s mind that they should experience the
similar thoughts about their existence. In addition to the wild nature, inanimate objects look alive
with soul

Identifying Organic Unknown
In order to identify an unknown organic compound, a series of qualitative tests were performed. It
was already known beforehand that the unknown was either an aldehyde or ketone. Besides
performing and understanding qualitative analyses, the main objective of the experiment was to
determine the class of carbonyl of the unknown and its nomenclature. Appendix B provided a list
of aldehydes and ketones and their respective melting/boiling points to aid in the identification.
The observations gathered from the chemical tests and derivative were sufficient enough to make
an educated guess of the unknown. Before executing the chemical tests, the unknown went
through a physical examination, where it s physical properties were observed. As shown on Data
Table 1, the given unknown was a pale yellow liquid with a vinegar like smell. The class of the
carbonyl couldn t be determined based off... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One such test, the Tollens test, can test for aldehydes. However, results show that the unknown did
not form a silver metal, but a black solution. Therefore, it was concluded that the unknown was a
ketone. The compound was then observed using the iodoform test which is positive only for
methyl ketones. Based on Data Table 3, the organic unknown was not a ketone with a methyl; no
iodoform or precipitate had formed from the reaction between the unknown and the iodine/strong
base. Thus, the most likely has larger R groups. Another test, the DNP test, was taken to determine
if the ketone was aromatic. After the addition of DNP to the given unknown, an orange precipitate
was produced. The color seemed to be in favor of a dark yellow though; therefore this ketone is not
aromatic. Since this test proved that the unknown contained no aromatic rings, the ferric chloride
test, which checks for phenols, was not necessary to be

The Downfall of the Black Panther Party Essay
The Downfall of the Black Panther Party
The Black Panther Party was the most influential revolutionary group during the Civil Rights
movement era. The BPP became a very strong political power. It influenced many government
decisions and attracted the mass media. Yet, due to a number of reasons the BPP eventually
collapsed. The Black Panther Party came to its demise due to government operations against it,
various mistakes by the Party itself, and by short comings by its own leaders.
The most devastating cause of the BPP s demise was programs ran by the Federal Bureau of
Investigation aimed at breaking up the party. The FBI was mostly responsible for the eventual
breakup. In the 1960s, the FBI had a secret program to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These agents also fabricated information when arresting members and when trials were held. This
even included intimidation of witnesses and coercion. As Hilliard noted, the Bureau concocted a
threatening letter to jurors, during the Chicago Eight conspiracy trials in efforts to obtain
convictions (179). Indeed, these tactics used by the FBI crippled and eventually broke up the BPP
Party.
In the same way, the FBI s actions were not solely responsible for the BPP s demise. In fact,
various BPP mistakes caused its own downfall. The most serious structural flaw in the BPP was
the way it carried out operations. Party members who openly worked in BPP offices or organized
in the community daily, were the same people who carried out underground armed operations at
night. Naturally, this provided the police with a convenient excuse to make raids on any BPP
offices or the homes of the members. Such raids forced the party to make stationary defenses of the
BPP offices. Unfortunately, since there was no separation between the daily operations and the
underground armed apparatus, the Party became doomed.
In addition, although the BPP was proficient at the art of propaganda making very good use of its
own and the establishment s media, too many Panthers still fell into the habit of making boisterous
claims in the public media that they could not back up.

The Douglas DC 3 is a fixed wing propeller driven airliner. Its cruise speed (207 mph or 333 km

will argue that African Americans are incarcerated at a higher rate than Caucasians. Proven by
statistical data, there are grounds to establish that the racial disparity in incarceration rates is a
social problem. To address this social problem, public policy should be implemented by the Federal

Chemical Composition Of Cells Lab Report
Chemical Composition of Cells Lab Report Tyler Thomason September 14, 2015
Introduction
A cell, the building block of all living organisms, is composed of four fundamental biomolecules:
proteins, carbohydrates, sugars and lipids. Proteins provide a vast amount of functions cells such
as they serve as enzymes, provide structural support to cells, and act as antibodies. Reagents are
used to spark a chemical reaction. The reagent used to detect protein traces in a substance is Biuret
s. Biuret s will turn purple if proteins are present and blue if they are none. Biuret s copper
particles, have a charge of +2, are diminished to a charge of +1 when peptide bonds, which are in
proteins, are present, creating the color change. Polysaccharides, which are carbohydrates, are most
notably known to provide energy to the body, but they also help in breaking down fatty acids.
Iodine is the reagent used to determine whether a substance has starch in it. The iodine/starch
complex has energy levels that are only for retaining unmistakable light, giving the complex its
extraordinarily dark black blue shade. If there is no starch found, iodine will remain its natural
yellowish brownish color, but if starch is present, iodine will turn blue black. Monosaccharides,
which are sugars, like polysaccharides, provide the body with energy. To detect monosaccharides,
the reagent, Benedict s, is used. Benedict s reagent is added to a test tube, then it is placed in

Sympathy In Antigone

Sympathy for Strong Character
Often in a work of literature, an author will create a set of characters whose purpose is to contrast
their defining qualities. The purpose of this technique is to highlight the composure of a well
constructed individual and emphasize how these characteristics can lead to the discovery of the
good life. The author may also call attention to a character s persona by fabricating scenarios in
which he or she is faced with an obstacle that forces them to question their own values and the
values of those surrounding them. Throughout the play, Antigone, by Sophocles, the titular
character is faced with an obstacle which threatens her relationship with her uncle, King ... Show

His stubborn reign and obsession with power inevitably leads to the death of Antigone, his son,
and beloved queen. In his position as king, he denies the power of the gods and believes that his
decisions are infallible. This is most evident when Kreon s son, Haimon, attempts to open the
mind of his headstrong and irrational father (Sophocles 645 668). When he suggests that the
opinions of Antigone and the entirety of Thebes must be taken into consideration, Kreon states
that he has caught Antigone disobeying openly and he shall not falsify himslef before the city.
He ll kill her while she sings to Zeus of blood kinship (Sophocles 655 658). Through this
argument with his son, Kreon reveals yet another faulty element to his character. Not only does
he discount the ideals of the people he rules, but also the practices of the gods. During that time
period, a love for kin and the honor for a proper burial was crucial to religion (Sophocles 645 668).
The rejection of this critical aspect diminished all possible reasons for condolence, and placed
Antigone on a pedestal for her restless desire to praise the gods and her

Our political leaders are also responsible for this situation because our leaders focus on personal

rose about 30 percent, with more than half the increase attributed to Indiglo.
Given its success, it is not surprising that Timex continued to put almost its entire advertising
budget into campaigns for Indiglo in 1994. And the Indiglo is HOT. Timex was fortunate enough to

provided some fascinating material for potential ad campaigns. Consider the following:
* A man led a group of people down 34 unlit flights of stairs in the bombed World Trade Center in
New York City by the light of an Indiglo. * A Los Angeles couple lit their way to safety after an
earthquake with an Indiglo watch. * Four people clung to a capsized fishing boat overnight,

How Muscle Growth Affects Your Body After Weight Training...
Have you always wondered if there s a less time consuming way that you can build muscle, yet
still gives you the results you would get if you worked out daily in the gym? It s not exactly
easy, but it is possible. By varying the intensity of your exercise session and taking a nice
recovery period after, you ll see that you can build your muscles with less effort and become
stronger. Many studies have been done on musclegrowth. Much of that research points to the theory
that you need to rest your body after weight trainingin order to build muscles more effectively. It s
also been said that muscles can continue to adjust to their new growth and strength for time
periods as high as 21 days after the last workout. It s been noted by some fitness buffs that they
could reduce their exercisetime by two thirds and still achieve the same amount of muscle growth
that they otherwise would have noticed with everyday workouts. Many fitness enthusiasts are
spending way too much time working out, which means their muscles don t have time to recover.
This is unhealthy for muscle growth for your body. Working out too much can actually damage
your health and hamper your muscle building efforts. You may find yourself suffering from a
weaker immune system. You might also get sick or injured easily. So how to you determine how
long you should let your muscles recover after a workout? When you have intense workouts,
remember that your muscles take four to seven days to fully recover.

The Use Of Motifs In The Bean Trees
Written by Barbara Kingsolver, The Bean Trees contains characters who demonstrate how living
creatures are able to find methods of growing and transforming, despite unusual arrangements or
lifestyle. Throughout the novel, in the chapters The One to Get Away and Dream Angels the use of
motifs are greatly emphasized. Rebirth is one of the two important motifs, as the pattern of life and
death is repeated in the novel. Frequently, this theme is connected with dualities: when one
member of a pair passes, the other gains life force. Newt Hardbine represents as some sort of
double for Taylor, in the chapter The One to Get Away . For example, in school, people could

For instance, the night blooming cereus that Edna Poppy brings, which appears up on page 240, to

Ethics Of Mind Control Essay
Having firsthand experience in the field of persuasive technology, Harris has stepped back and
looked at it from an ethical perspective. He identified what he sees, and what unarguably is, a
problem with the deliberate manipulation of our time and our attention.
I feel that up until now, the methods employed by tech companies, such as YouTube and Facebook,
while logical in the perspective of marketing, are unethical, in the perspective of their underlying
potential for actual thought control.
By tapping in the depths of our physiological programming, our lizard brain , tech companies,
have, in effect, begun an all out campaign on mind control. But this is not mind control in a
healthy way; that does not seem to be an overriding concern. The concern is not about content, it s
about time, and time is money. I find this despicable and I am extremely excited to see someone
stepping up to actively address this issue.
A decade ago, if someone had asked us to carry a device that could be used to track our location,
and record personal data on us, we would have been appalled at the thought. Now, however, we,
not only allow it, we insist on it and we pay money to have it! Our children are being raised with

problem which Harris points out to us. It s not just Ads, it is the way our personal data is used to

Essay on Feminism and Chauvinism in Beauty And The Beast
Beauty and the Beast is a wonderful children s movie, its directed by: Gary Trousdale, and Kirk
Wise, and produced by: Don Hahn. Disney is the main sponsor and gives the movie the best cast
of artist and musicians. Who would except anything else from Disney, they are the best at children
s films. At the same time, Disney succeeds in teaching our children a very vital lesson in life, how
good looksand fame is not the key to true love. Which is created throughout the movie of Beauty
and the Beast released in 1991 with the most sincere reviews and touching style. Consequently, the
movie exploits a great deal of feminism and chauvinistic ways unexcitable to this day and age.

Similarly, you have a scene with a widow holding about four kids begging a man for six cents in
which the man was just shoving her off like a dog or cat. After all, this is just the first scene in the
movie. Personally I never realized this horrible display of feminism until I paid a little closer
attention to what is going on around the main characters.
Meanwhile, as Belle is finishing her walk through the chauvinistic town, Justin jumps in font of
her grasping the book she was peacefully reading and says Its not right for a women to read then
they start to get ideas and thinking. If this were a statement made by a stubborn political figure
back in the 1800 s I would understand because that was just how things tend to work back then.
However, this is a movie written in the 1990 s for children to watch seventy years after women
got the vote and were recognized to be equal to men. Nonetheless, I probably doubt that most
children who view this movie look at it in a chauvinistic way but if they did recognize the feminism
towards women it would upset them. Adults on the other hand, pick up on these inessential parts of
the movie and are struck with disappointment. As I viewed the movie and realized what was
actually going on it hurt me to think that in such an innocent movie things of this nature take place.
Indeed, this is just the first few signs of feminism. Sadly but surely the events that lead me to think

reliance on a higher power it can cause individuals to believe they are powerless to change without
the higher power (Rehab4alcoholism Staff, 2017). Next, the anonymity of AA has led some
member to abuse other members (Rehab4alcoholism Staff, 2017). Since members are subjected to
a policy to protects people s identity, many women have confessed to being sexually abused during
or after a meeting. In fact, this issue has caused the program to eliminate the thirteenth step of the
program: sponsoring (Rehab4alcoholism Staff, 2017). Besides this, many are subjected to AA as a
result of court order. Hence, the members are not truly willing to recover. Thus, prohibiting the
growth of the other members. Not to mention, AA can cause influential people to become involved
with the wrong crowd. Since the program is community based, participants are surrounded by those
who may also be addicted to drugs. Hence, a young or influential person may get involved with
drugs through the group setting (Rehab4alcoholism Staff, 2017).In other words, AA can influence

How Did Elvis Influence
How did Elvis Presley make an influence? To many people, he was the definition of the 20th
century. Elvis is most known for his music. Many people think he invented Rock and Roll, but
he didn t. He was a big influence in it though. His style made it unique. It was a sound no one has
ever heard before. Segregation was a big part of the 20th century. Elvis grew up listening to
African American singers. Elvis had a huge following. Once people realized that Elvis was
inspired by African American singers, they began to realize that they weren t so different from us.
African American singers became more and more popular. I guess you can say Elvis helped end
segregation. Elvis was drafted in the army in the year of 1957. When fans found out he

Wind Energy Resources using HybridBacktracking search with sequential quadraticOptimization
Algorithms Abstract The increasing environmental crumbling cost of fuel and decreasing
accessibility of fossil fuels necessitates the optimization in hurtful emission alongside the fuel cost.
One of the ways to do as such is incorporating the renewable natural resources of energy in the
existing power system while satisfying all operational constraints. It is a highly constrained multi
objective optimization issue including contradictory objectives with probabilistic and non
probabilistic correspondence and non fairness constraints to oblige the uncertainties of renewable
Energy Resources. In this paper a hybrid multi objective Backtracking search with sequential
quadratic programming optimization algorithm is proposed. The stochastic way of photovoltaic
and wind energy is displayed by Weibul probability distribution function with solar irradiance and
wind speed being stochastic variables. To accept the effectiveness it is first connected as a
benchmark to the standard six generator system. Than the entrance of the wind and solar power on
cost and emission is dissected in a six generator and twenty generator system and a near analysis
with the other optimization methods reveals that the proposed technique is ready to produce better
performance. 1.Introduction Probabilistic Hybrid Thermal,

The Three Levels Of The Federal Court System
In the United States Government, there are three levels of the federal court system: District
courts, Courts of Appeal, and the Supreme Court. District courts were created after the Judiciary
Act of 1789, and consist of federal trial courts that do not cross state lines. They can use original
jurisdiction on some cases if they involve a federal government as a party, present a federal based
question, or involve civil suits with citizens. The United Statesattorney, who is nominated by the
President and confirmed by the Senate, is the district s chief law enforcement officer. Courts of
Appeals was established in 1789 to hear appeals from federal district courts. They are overseen
by the chief judge, who serves 7 years, and each court can range from 11 30 judges, depending
on the workload and complexity of cases. These courts appeal cases by the losing party that have
already been heard and decided in a federal district court. They have no original jurisdiction, but
instead use appellate jurisdiction over appeals from criminal cases, and from administrative
agencies. The Supreme Court reviews cases at the center of highly controversial issues that the
political process has yet to resolve successfully. These cases may include cases from the United
States Courts of Appeals, state Supreme Courts, and act as a final decision. The judges within the
Supreme Court are highly regarded, and one must meet specific requirements to become one.

Essay Managing Employee Retention and Turnover
Managing Employee Retention and Turnover
Employee retention has always been an important focus for human resource managers. Once a
company has invested time and money to recruit and train a good employee, it is in their own best
interest to retain that employee, to further develop and motivate him so that he continues to provide
value to the organization. But, employers must also recognize and tend to what is in the best
interest of their employees, if they intend to keep them. When a company overlooks the needs of its
employees and focuses only on the needs of the organization, turnover often results. Excessive
turnover in an organization is a prime indicator that something is not right in the employee
environment. We will look at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A recent survey by The Society for Human Resource Management ranked tuition reimbursement
programs and vacation/holiday time as the top two retention initiatives being offered by
employers. In addition, instant recognition programs, such as spot bonuses, are being used to
reward excellence in performance as it occurs. Such programs give employees immediate
gratification for their efforts rather than delaying it until annual reviews. Also, flexible work hours
and telecommuting programs that allow employees to better balance their work commitments
with their family duties are becoming more common. According to Ceridian Employer Services
(2004), 90 percent of companies with more than 5,000 employees allow telecommuting.... And ...
52 percent of large companies use virtual teams. Organizations must continually search for
innovative ways to retain their best employees. Fortunately, the costs of these efforts are low in
comparison to the high costs of turnover. Turnover of employees can be involuntary or voluntary.
When a company lets go of an employee who has been a bad performer, has violated company
policy, or broken a law it is usually considered involuntary turnover. So are layoffs. More often we
speak of turnover in the context of being voluntary, or the unplanned loss of employees who leave
on their own accord, but that the

The end of the war opened new avenues for the American public due to new innovations in
technology and organization (Marshall, 1979). Abraham Levitt, an American entrepreneur,
established a community in Nassau County, Long Island. Levitt converted former farmland into a
suburban community where thousands of individuals could find housing. Approximately, 17,000
houses were built and sold or rented to middle income families (Naish, 2014). Among the
American population, there was a desire for individual freedom following World War II. One
being able to attain a large living space and accumulate material wealth became engrained in the
American Dream. Many realized that the suburbs and living in planned subdivisions of land was
an affordable option. This led to the growth of suburbia throughout the late 20th century. These
same desires are what allow the suburbs to flourish today. The US Census Bureau published in

The Evolutionary Drive Is Sexual Selection
Biological Perspective Certain factors which may contribute to honor killings stem from biology,
specifically from evolutionary drives. One such drive is sexual selection. According to Charles
Darwin, animals including humans might choose their mates based on specific traits which they
find attractive. In human males, appealing physical traits involve height and masculinity.
Psychological characteristics would include sexual aggressiveness. Aggression is therefore more
liable to be passed down to the next generation and to modern males, making them exceedingly
likely to assert their control over women (Goldstein, 2002). Another related drive is that of
paternal certainty. Males of any species generally want to ensure that the offspring of females with
which they have reproduced are, in fact, theirs. The concept of paternal certainty guarantees that
males assure their genetics are passed down. The fact that female fidelity within sexual
relationships would sanction for greater paternal certainty, whereas male fidelity would not do the
same has led to social norms of harsher punishments for female adultery as well as norms of
patriarchal control. Likewise, it elucidates the behavior which is used to control women (Goldstein,
2002). Psychological Factors In addition to biological contributors, it remains likely for
psychological factors to influence the likelihood of committing honor based violence. For instance,
those who commit honor crimes tend to show a specific type of

how it was going. By writing to his mom and telling her that he was okay, even though he lied
about what he was doing he showed he cared for his parents. Dear Mom and Dad, Camp is hard,

Norma Rae Sociological Analysis
Organizations are often used as instruments of domination that further the selfish interests of
elites at the expense of others, and there is an element of domination in all organizations. This
theoretical metaphor explores the ugly sides of organizations and why it s socially acceptable in
our society. The theory refers to ideology and hegemony in order to justify the acceptance of
something. For example, the poor working conditions as shown in Norma Rae are seen as
acceptable in that town. Ideology is a collection of given ideas that a society or culture has. The
thought that there is no other work out there for the textile workers and if they complain about the
situation, there s a chance they could lose their jobs could be an example. In turn, it forces the
workers to accept what they are given and continue on with their lives, which then explains
hegemony. Hegemony is the acceptance of these ideologies as a normal way of life. As a whole,
the community genuinely believes that they have no other choice but to endure poor working
conditions, long hours with very few breaks, and low pay. They comply with the work conditions
because they fear they would lose... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

workers practically have to yell at each other just so they can hear each other on their breaks.

If you have the ability to make life as simple despite the complexities surrounding you, then you
are smarter than the others who maintain a complicated life. For instance, if one can explain
something too technical to somebody who is not of the same profession as you are, in a manner
that the other person can easily understand takes a skill and an intelligence and creativity to be

The Family Tree Short Story
The Family Tree
Our story begins in Greece, many years ago. A baby was born in the city of Athens. Her name was
Oakley. Oakley had brown, long hair with big hazel eyes. Her parents adored her.
Eighteen years passed by and there was a big riot going on in Athens in protest of Zeus letting
Hades capture Persephone. Zeus wanted to teach the citizens of Athens a lesson by sending them
terrible storms. Innocent Oakley didn t know about the threats from Zeus, but her parents did.
Her parents didn t want Oakley to fear of the storm coming their way, so they didn t tell her. Her
parents also didn t want to leave Athens themselves, they knew they didn t have the energy to do
so. In result, they had to try and get Oakley to move by herself, without letting her know of the
great dangers ahead. Oakley was in her room, sewing a new blanket for her bed. Her mother
called for her to come downstairs. So of course, she made her way downstairs and saw her
parents sitting on the couch, with a depressed look on their face. What s wrong? said Oakley.
Honey, we have some news for you. We are sending you off to Corfu. said her mother. Oakleys

Boice writes, In the OT there is the creation of an ekklesia, an assembly of those who are called
out of a normal relationship to the world in order to be a special people of God. The church is
not Plan B in God s plan of salvation but rather was hinted at in the OT through the calling out of
Abraham and Israel but was not fully realized until the NT. Blaising argues this point when he
writes, The church is seen less and less as a parenthesis in the divine program. Instead it is seen as
vitally linked to and comprehended in the plan of God revealed in the Old Testament. The sharp line
which is drawn between the Church and Israel is dulled within PD as this view attempts to
harmonize the two Testaments into one unifying work of God throughout all of history.
TD views the church as in a parenthetical relationship with God and His plan for Israel. TD taught
that the offer to the kingdom of Israel was genuine, but it was also conditional and contingent on the
nations response, when Israel choose to reject the Messiah, the offer of Jesus Christ was offered to
the Gentiles and the kingdom did not immediately appear but was postponed. TD argue that had the
Israelites accepted the Messiah the Kingdom would have begun immediately, however, since Israel
rejected Jesus the offer went to the Gentiles. Therefore, since

Reid joined Kaepernick in taking a knee during the national anthem, in doing this Kaepernick and

There are three kinds or groups of streptococcus A, B, and C group. Group A streptococcus are
known as streptococcus pyogenes, which are also known as S pyogene. In 1884 the organism was
named s pyogene by the scientist Rosebach (Sat Sharma MD, 2004). Though the bacteria wasn t
named till 1884 it was first described by Billroth in 1874. Streptococcus is known to cause the
diseases rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, tonsillitis, pneumonias, sinusitis, and
Streptococcus Group A 2 ear infections (American Academy of Otolaryngology). There are
antibiotics for these diseases, but over the years they have been becoming more resistant.
Streptococcus is becoming more resistant to antibiotics. Over a period of three years from
September 1, 1993 to August 31, 1996 a study was done on children suffering from the resistant
group A streptococcus (Dr. Arditi, 1999). This new group A strain caused children pneumococcal
meningitis. Researches looked at eight different hospitals in the United States and one hundred and
eighty cases within these three years. The study was designed to look at clinical presentation,
hospital course, and the outcome from the children being cured. As they watched and monitored the
children s progress on the different antibiotics used to cure streptococcus. Also the researchers has
to take into consideration if the streptococcus was becoming resistant, which antibiotics were given
as treatment, and from those antibiotics which streptococcus became

Emergency Management
The roles of information systems in emergency response system and how the individual would use
it. In emergency response management the basic network involves receiving information and then
the mobilization of the necessary emergency services and first responders to the disaster area.
This is should include a first wave of core emergency services, such as firefighters, police and
ambulance crews, but the size of the emergency determines the amount of resources allocated to
any disaster. In receiving information there needs to be a way to provide and obtain accurate and
timely information about the event and keep communication open and flowing with all the
responders. It should have a way for key people to communicate and keep everyone... Show more

This would greatly reduce any information overload that would hinder decision making. In the
span of not having enough information, some decision makers will wait on making a decision,
but this could be just as bad as making a wrong decision.[Carver] Other key decision makers will
fall back on routines which might not be relevant in the situation. The technology in this situation
needs to be able to take the amount of information gathered and then start the allocation of
resources to the area so that information does start coming in, they can immediately start
implementing the response plans. There is a need for both discipline, which would include
structure, doctrine, and processes, and agility which could be defined by creativity, improvisation,
adaptability in responding to a disaster.[Walker] There is also the need to onboard and build an
effective leadership team quickly to coordinate and manage efforts as they grow beyond first
responders. The leader and team must formulate and implement a disciplined, iterative set of
response plans, allowing initial coordinated responses that are vaguely right, adapting to new
information and changes in circumstances as they arise. There needs to be a broad system that will
allow people who have never worked together before the ability to understand the objectives from
the information provided and instantly update on any

Monica Bing Research Paper
Monica Bing (nГ©e Geller) was born to Jack and Judy Geller where she was raised in Long
Island, New York with her older brother Ross. Since her childhood, Monica has always been in
the shadow of Ross to both of her parents, especially their mother. Her mother to this day still
knocks Monica down for everything she does and does not do. Nothing is simply good enough for
her mom. Due to her being in the dark, Monica took out her loneliness with the help of food. This
then resulted in Monica becoming Fat Monica. While in high school Monica became best friends
with the most popular girl in school, Rachel Green. Rachel never saw Monica for her weight and
this was the first time in a while that Monica felt good as herself. However, things begin... Show

Due to Monica believing that her parents only cared for Ross, Monica always felt alone until
food came into the picture. At any moment food was around she would engulf it. For instance,
Ross once said that if he did not eat fast he was not able to eat at all. Additionally, food was a
void to keep her sad emotions in. For example, she had a flashback of when one of her boyfriend
s got called into work after she worked long and hard on a dinner that she prepared for him.
Instead of sulking around, she just began eating. Furthermore, eating was not the only problem
that Monica has to deal with. Similar to her mother, Monica has always had a problem with
being a perfectionist. She has constantly made cleaning a sport and fun activity to spend her
time. Sometimes she rather spends time with her mop and cleaners than hangout with her
friends. Also, cleaning does not just end her perfectionist issue. Organization is the key to
Monica. Without her labeler, who knows how Monica could function the everyday life. When
Chandler was looking for a job, she took it in her best interest to label and file jobs that he could
possibly interview for. Chandler asked her why she did that and her response was so that she
could simply use the labeler. Likewise, she is always concerned about her precious ribbon draw.
Out of the blue, she will freak out if she has the slightest idea that someone could get their hands
on it and mess it up. Additionally, she organizes her towels into 11 categories. Is that not 10 more
than needed? Furthermore, one specific rule that Monica has is that everything needs to be in place
where it was before and by that it cannot move a millimeter without her noticing a change in the
room. For example, when Rachel moved in with Monica, she decided to clean the apartment for
her; it did not go that great. Rachel thought that moving the ottoman to make an extra seat around
the table would be best,

How Is Hate Different From Each Other
Humans have always been able to express a variety of emotions, whether its happiness, sadness,
empathy, etc. Yet, one of the most complicated feelings we are capable of expressing is hatred.
The reason why is because there are so many different levels of hate that one can go through,
depending on the relationship that they have with that person and why they are angry. For
instance, the hate that one feels for a stranger is very different from the hate they feel toward
someone they know or care about. This is depicted in William Blake s A Poison Tree and
Carolyn Kizer s Bitch , where one of the poems portrays the difference between the feelings of
hatred one has for a close friend compared to that of a foe, and the other describes the hate... Show

For this reason, when one is angry with a friend, and they confess, it automatically melts into love
and friendship. However, when one is angry with an enemy, they bury their angeras it continues to
grow, because it is never expressed. According to A Poison Tree, when one buries their anger
rather than acknowledging it, that anger turns into a seed that will eventually sprout into hatred.
The seed is then nourished by the negativity of the angry person, allowing their wrath to flourish
into a mighty force or tree that could potentially destroy both parties. It is implied by the title that
the tree is poison, telling the reader that by ignoring or suppressing their anger, they are also
poisoned. As a result, the tree ...grew day and night [until] it bore an apple bright, hinting at some
of the destructive consequences that can result when one cultivates their anger (9 10). For instance,
the foreboding tone of the final line; is the speaker s delight at the foe outstretched beneath the tree,
which offers a warning about what can happen when one suppresses their anger (16). Therefore, by
ignoring or denying ones feelings, they can become destructive, hostile, and even

A Brief Note On The Intersection Of Technology And Terrorism
Final Paper Sean Kosma ADMJ 1220 Dec. 5, 2014 Cyberterrorism: the intersection of technology
and terrorism The cyber world around us is an evolving organic entity. The incredible
advancements with technology and the interconnectivity between such systems make everyday
life for the average American as easy as swiping a finger. From a person s smartphone used to
pass the time by mindlessly playing games to the United States federal computer networks filled
with incredibly confidential databases and mainframes, the wide range of differing types of
technology and networks is utilized for an even larger spectrum of capabilities, depending on who
is operating. With a world that is becoming much more dependent on these networks running
smoothly and efficiently as possible, these networks are becoming prime targets for individuals or
organizations that may have other, more malicious ideas of how to utilize the true capabilities of
these networks. Present day has seen its fair share of networks that have been compromised by
unauthorized actors, but the real question that arises with this looming theory of cyberterrorism is
what the actors desired endstate is. When a network is hacked and compromised, how the act is
categorized is all dependent on the identity of those guilty, the intended targets, the desired
outcome, and the overarching desired outcome the actors wished would come to fruition. All these
components have led to the classification of cybercrimes, cyberterrorism,

Performance Task Essay
For the past couple of years, the number of school shootings has increased. In the aftermath of these
tragedies, reporters often discover that the shooter was mentally ill. Many people believe that
mental illness refers to severe diseases such as schizophrenia but it also includes depression, stress,
and anxiety. As mass shootings become more commonplace in America, parents are concerned for
their children s safety at school. Within San Gabriel, some people say that Gabrielino High School
does not have adequate support and help for mentally ill students. They claim that any help from
Gabrielino would be useless and believe that it is not Gabrielino s responsibility to provide help for
these students. Other people believe that there are enough resources at Gabrielino to help mentally
ill students as well as sufficient awareness about this help. Through the annual Club Faire and Gab
week, these people state that students know that they can reach out and receive support. These
statements are not completely true; Gabrielino does have sufficient resources for students with
mental illness but students are not aware of this help.
Gabrielino High School has various programs that are able to support mentally ill students. The
school is unable to help severe cases of mental illness such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia
because these diseases need treatment from psychiatrists. Despite this, Gabrielino

The Education Of Malcolm X Essay
Literacy is power. Being taught to read and write is important to function in society. You learn to
read and write to express your feelings and communicate with others. Frederick Douglass and
Malcom X both succeeded in learning how to read and write, but in different ways. The education
of Malcolm X was learned more formally. Frederick Douglass learned from his surroundings and
the people around him. Malcom and Frederick battled in reading and writing, but learned in similar
and different ways. During the 1960s, Malcolm Xwas one of many articulate and powerful leaders
of black America. Before he was a street hustler and spent seven years in prison, where he
educated himself. Before this time, he was almost completely illiterate. He describes how he could
hardly compose a sentence with a straight line or correctly articulates words, let alone read and
write. Not being able to express his thoughts and feelings in the letters he wrote inspired him to
educate himself. Malcolm then became one of the leading spokesman for African American
separatism. Unlike Malcom X Frederick Douglass escaped to New York, where he became a
leader in the abolitionist movement. Frederick was born a slave and couldn t read or write at all.
His mistress was teaching him how to read and write but suddenly was against instructing him so
he had to be strategically deceptive to learn. Despite of their horrible backgrounds, these two men
acquired how to read and write. On the other hand, you would

history of surfing Essay
A Surf Tale
An account of surfing s thousand year voyage from the kings of Hawaii, to the surfers exile from
society, to the multi billion dollar industry of today.
The Sun s radiation heats the upper atmosphere, sending the energy toward the earth s surface and
finally mixes with the planet s counter rotational currents, creating jetstream flows. The winds flow
over the ocean s surface creating friction that spawns chops, pushing up the seas forming perfect
bands of open ocean swell. Pushed on by gravitational forces, the swells speed away from the
winds that they came from, moving across the deeps until they feel the drag of the shallows near
the coast. As the swells rise up out of themselves, they peak, curling into the liquid dreams ... Show

They had perfected the science of celestial navigation and frequently made thousand mile journeys,
hitting their target destination perfectly. The Islanders braved the ocean by rowing large canoes
made from forest hardwood. They stabilized them with outriggers, enabling the boats to keep from
flipping while paddling into the surf. These crafts were propelled by wind being corralled in sails
made from pandanus leaves, or when sailing into the wind, they could be rowed with small
paddles. The islanders were accustomed to long journeys at sea seeing as these boats were
primarily used to venture out on their regular trading routes with other islands, or even on long
explorations. It was on these Expeditions that the Ancient Polynesians are believed to have
discovered and inhabited hundreds of remote islands, including present day Easter Island and of
course Hawaii.
It isn t clear how the Polynesians actually discovered surfing, but we can all conjecture. Assuming
that these ancient people were familiar with paddling in the ocean, they surely understood that
while paddling with a swell, one could feel the next wave building behind them. As the wave
begins to peak, it pulls you down, and then draws you up, then allowing one to fall along the face
of the wave, skipping forward across the surface. It seems to be the best guess that surfing started
much like that, a fisherman catches a lift to shore

Analysis Of The Poem Long Black Song By Richard Wright
W.E.B Du Bois makes points of having a double consciousness and being behind a veil. While
Booker T. Washington points out that there is a dignity to be found in fruits from labor. In the
reading of Long Black Song, by Richard Wright, he uses both of these points in his text to make the
story come alive. Although, creatively both Du Bois and Washington s points can be found hidden
within the text; it is clear within this short story that Wright leaned to agree more with Du Bois
points than he did with Washington s points. W.E.B. Du Bois presents two ideas within his text, the
idea that African Americans live behind a veil and the idea that they constantly struggle with a
double consciousness. Double consciousness to Du Bois was a... Show more content on

I said that any individual who learned to do something better than anybody else learned to do a
common thing in an uncommon manner had solved his problem, regardless of the colour of his
skin, and that in proportion as the Negro learned to produce what other people wanted and must
have, in the same proportion would he be respected. (Washington 76 77) Washington is basically
saying dignity in labor means that African American men will earn respect if they provide white
men with something useful, such as things you can get from working hard in a field and selling
it to white men. This will show them you are valuable and therefore they will respect you. The
right to be respected by white man has been earned and thus it will be given. Long Black Song
starts out with hints towards Du Bois idea of the veil with the lines, She saw green fields
wrapped in the thickening gloam. It was as if they had left the earth, those fields, and were
floating slowly skyward. (Wright 65) The terms such as thickening and floating give the image of
being behind or on something. The idea that the fields are being pulled into a veil. These lines
give a bit of foreshadowing to the story when you read between them leading us to whether Wright
will side with Du Bois or Washington at the end of the story. Also the

Eating Poetry By Mark Strand
Mark Strand is one of the most prominent figures in contemporary American poetry, and yet his
poems are often considered some of the most elusive (Strand 59). Throughout Mark Strand s Eating
Poetry, this is shown greatly by his use of surrealism. The surrealism, which is releasing the
creativity of the unconscious mind, is one of Strand s ways of writing. The speaker exhibits this by
saying that a man is eating poetry, then that the man has eaten all of the poems, also that there are
now dogs in the poem, and finally, the speaker shows how the man has somewhat of a special
connection with the dogs that came out of nowhere. There are multiple places in which this poem
takes place, which helps to add to the surrealism that exists throughout the entire length of the poem.

The first line also sets up a surreal, dream like mood, which Strand employs in many poems
(Kushner 69). Where most would see this as maybe a painful experience, the speaker is
enjoying it, just as it were a delectable piece of steak. Watching on the speaker is the librarian,
who is a little more normal than the speaker because when she sees the speaker of the poem, she
is in awe for she does not believe what she sees. The librarian does not believe what she sees (ln 4).

Three Cups of Tea, co written by Dr. Greg Mortenson and David Relin shows Mortenson s personal

and appropriate educators is for those poverty struck children. Determined, he came to a wealthy
former mountain climber comparable to himself to ask for a donation for any contribution of the

a man, Victor, who creates a child so hideous that he cannot bear to look at it, and consequently

so much death and despair: Do your duty towards me, and I will do mine towards you and the rest

  • 2. The Soul By Mary Oliver Summary From the earliest philosophical debates to the latest scientific research and experiments, the issue of inner being or soul is unanswerable yet. Such spiritual mysterious like the eternal connection between creatures in nature is a favorite theme among poets. In this poem, Mary Oliver demonstrates the ideology that soul and consciousnessare not uniquely for humans. The main themes continue to be the intersection between the human and the natural world, as well as the limits of language in articulating such a meeting. Although she has been criticized for writing poetry that assumes a dangerously close relationship of women with nature, she is only strengthened through an immersion with nature. Writing while walking around the woods, Mary is the kind of person who scribbles but shared it. Manifesting her experience of touch and feel does a great job to sum of our reality. The listener is affected by her language and certainly feel more attached to the environment and the mother earth. The poet deliberately illustrates the reality of the soul using visual examples to indicate a better understanding of spirit which is subjective. For instance, selecting iron as a symbol of solid element requires a great vision which makes an invisible reality more sensible. By giving tangible examples of other animals, she tries to open the reader s mind that they should experience the similar thoughts about their existence. In addition to the wild nature, inanimate objects look alive with soul ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Identifying Organic Unknown In order to identify an unknown organic compound, a series of qualitative tests were performed. It was already known beforehand that the unknown was either an aldehyde or ketone. Besides performing and understanding qualitative analyses, the main objective of the experiment was to determine the class of carbonyl of the unknown and its nomenclature. Appendix B provided a list of aldehydes and ketones and their respective melting/boiling points to aid in the identification. The observations gathered from the chemical tests and derivative were sufficient enough to make an educated guess of the unknown. Before executing the chemical tests, the unknown went through a physical examination, where it s physical properties were observed. As shown on Data Table 1, the given unknown was a pale yellow liquid with a vinegar like smell. The class of the carbonyl couldn t be determined based off... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One such test, the Tollens test, can test for aldehydes. However, results show that the unknown did not form a silver metal, but a black solution. Therefore, it was concluded that the unknown was a ketone. The compound was then observed using the iodoform test which is positive only for methyl ketones. Based on Data Table 3, the organic unknown was not a ketone with a methyl; no iodoform or precipitate had formed from the reaction between the unknown and the iodine/strong base. Thus, the most likely has larger R groups. Another test, the DNP test, was taken to determine if the ketone was aromatic. After the addition of DNP to the given unknown, an orange precipitate was produced. The color seemed to be in favor of a dark yellow though; therefore this ketone is not aromatic. Since this test proved that the unknown contained no aromatic rings, the ferric chloride test, which checks for phenols, was not necessary to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Downfall of the Black Panther Party Essay The Downfall of the Black Panther Party The Black Panther Party was the most influential revolutionary group during the Civil Rights movement era. The BPP became a very strong political power. It influenced many government decisions and attracted the mass media. Yet, due to a number of reasons the BPP eventually collapsed. The Black Panther Party came to its demise due to government operations against it, various mistakes by the Party itself, and by short comings by its own leaders. The most devastating cause of the BPP s demise was programs ran by the Federal Bureau of Investigation aimed at breaking up the party. The FBI was mostly responsible for the eventual breakup. In the 1960s, the FBI had a secret program to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These agents also fabricated information when arresting members and when trials were held. This even included intimidation of witnesses and coercion. As Hilliard noted, the Bureau concocted a threatening letter to jurors, during the Chicago Eight conspiracy trials in efforts to obtain convictions (179). Indeed, these tactics used by the FBI crippled and eventually broke up the BPP Party. In the same way, the FBI s actions were not solely responsible for the BPP s demise. In fact, various BPP mistakes caused its own downfall. The most serious structural flaw in the BPP was the way it carried out operations. Party members who openly worked in BPP offices or organized in the community daily, were the same people who carried out underground armed operations at night. Naturally, this provided the police with a convenient excuse to make raids on any BPP offices or the homes of the members. Such raids forced the party to make stationary defenses of the BPP offices. Unfortunately, since there was no separation between the daily operations and the underground armed apparatus, the Party became doomed. In addition, although the BPP was proficient at the art of propaganda making very good use of its own and the establishment s media, too many Panthers still fell into the habit of making boisterous claims in the public media that they could not back up. ... African Americans account for the largest percent of our prison population because they have the highest incarceration rate compared to other races. This essay will argue that African Americans are incarcerated at a higher rate than Caucasians. Proven by statistical data, there are grounds to establish that the racial disparity in incarceration rates is a social problem. To address this social problem, public policy should be implemented by the Federal Government. The incarceration rate for African Americans is higher than that of Caucasians. • 10. Chemical Composition Of Cells Lab Report Chemical Composition of Cells Lab Report Tyler Thomason September 14, 2015 Introduction A cell, the building block of all living organisms, is composed of four fundamental biomolecules: proteins, carbohydrates, sugars and lipids. Proteins provide a vast amount of functions cells such as they serve as enzymes, provide structural support to cells, and act as antibodies. Reagents are used to spark a chemical reaction. The reagent used to detect protein traces in a substance is Biuret s. Biuret s will turn purple if proteins are present and blue if they are none. Biuret s copper particles, have a charge of +2, are diminished to a charge of +1 when peptide bonds, which are in proteins, are present, creating the color change. Polysaccharides, which are carbohydrates, are most notably known to provide energy to the body, but they also help in breaking down fatty acids. Iodine is the reagent used to determine whether a substance has starch in it. The iodine/starch complex has energy levels that are only for retaining unmistakable light, giving the complex its extraordinarily dark black blue shade. If there is no starch found, iodine will remain its natural yellowish brownish color, but if starch is present, iodine will turn blue black. Monosaccharides, which are sugars, like polysaccharides, provide the body with energy. To detect monosaccharides, the reagent, Benedict s, is used. Benedict s reagent is added to a test tube, then it is placed in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Sympathy In Antigone Lauren Rostkowski 12B0 Dr. Bushey 31 October 2016 Sympathy for Strong Character Often in a work of literature, an author will create a set of characters whose purpose is to contrast their defining qualities. The purpose of this technique is to highlight the composure of a well constructed individual and emphasize how these characteristics can lead to the discovery of the good life. The author may also call attention to a character s persona by fabricating scenarios in which he or she is faced with an obstacle that forces them to question their own values and the values of those surrounding them. Throughout the play, Antigone, by Sophocles, the titular character is faced with an obstacle which threatens her relationship with her uncle, King ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His stubborn reign and obsession with power inevitably leads to the death of Antigone, his son, and beloved queen. In his position as king, he denies the power of the gods and believes that his decisions are infallible. This is most evident when Kreon s son, Haimon, attempts to open the mind of his headstrong and irrational father (Sophocles 645 668). When he suggests that the opinions of Antigone and the entirety of Thebes must be taken into consideration, Kreon states that he has caught Antigone disobeying openly and he shall not falsify himslef before the city. He ll kill her while she sings to Zeus of blood kinship (Sophocles 655 658). Through this argument with his son, Kreon reveals yet another faulty element to his character. Not only does he discount the ideals of the people he rules, but also the practices of the gods. During that time period, a love for kin and the honor for a proper burial was crucial to religion (Sophocles 645 668). The rejection of this critical aspect diminished all possible reasons for condolence, and placed Antigone on a pedestal for her restless desire to praise the gods and her ... Have you always wondered if there s a less time consuming way that you can build muscle, yet still gives you the results you would get if you worked out daily in the gym? It s not exactly easy, but it is possible. By varying the intensity of your exercise session and taking a nice recovery period after, you ll see that you can build your muscles with less effort and become stronger. Many studies have been done on musclegrowth. Much of that research points to the theory that you need to rest your body after weight trainingin order to build muscles more effectively. It s also been said that muscles can continue to adjust to their new growth and strength for time periods as high as 21 days after the last workout. It s been noted by some fitness buffs that they could reduce their exercisetime by two thirds and still achieve the same amount of muscle growth that they otherwise would have noticed with everyday workouts. Many fitness enthusiasts are spending way too much time working out, which means their muscles don t have time to recover. This is unhealthy for muscle growth for your body. Working out too much can actually damage your health and hamper your muscle building efforts. You may find yourself suffering from a weaker immune system. You might also get sick or injured easily. So how to you determine how long you should let your muscles recover after a workout? When you have intense workouts, remember that your muscles take four to seven days to fully recover. ... The Use Of Motifs In The Bean Trees Written by Barbara Kingsolver, The Bean Trees contains characters who demonstrate how living creatures are able to find methods of growing and transforming, despite unusual arrangements or lifestyle. Throughout the novel, in the chapters The One to Get Away and Dream Angels the use of motifs are greatly emphasized. Rebirth is one of the two important motifs, as the pattern of life and death is repeated in the novel. Frequently, this theme is connected with dualities: when one member of a pair passes, the other gains life force. He identified what he sees, and what unarguably is, a problem with the deliberate manipulation of our time and our attention. I feel that up until now, the methods employed by tech companies, such as YouTube and Facebook, while logical in the perspective of marketing, are unethical, in the perspective of their underlying potential for actual thought control. By tapping in the depths of our physiological programming, our lizard brain , tech companies, have, in effect, begun an all out campaign on mind control. But this is not mind control in a healthy way; that does not seem to be an overriding concern. The concern is not about content, it s about time, and time is money. I find this despicable and I am extremely excited to see someone stepping up to actively address this issue. A decade ago, if someone had asked us to carry a device that could be used to track our location, and record personal data on us, we would have been appalled at the thought. District courts were created after the Judiciary Act of 1789, and consist of federal trial courts that do not cross state lines. They can use original jurisdiction on some cases if they involve a federal government as a party, present a federal based question, or involve civil suits with citizens. The United Statesattorney, who is nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate, is the district s chief law enforcement officer. Courts of Appeals was established in 1789 to hear appeals from federal district courts. They are overseen by the chief judge, who serves 7 years, and each court can range from 11 30 judges, depending on the workload and complexity of cases. These courts appeal cases by the losing party that have already been heard and decided in a federal district court. They have no original jurisdiction, but instead use appellate jurisdiction over appeals from criminal cases, and from administrative agencies. The Supreme Court reviews cases at the center of highly controversial issues that the political process has yet to resolve successfully. • 32. The Evolutionary Drive Is Sexual Selection Biological Perspective Certain factors which may contribute to honor killings stem from biology, specifically from evolutionary drives. One such drive is sexual selection. According to Charles Darwin, animals including humans might choose their mates based on specific traits which they find attractive. In human males, appealing physical traits involve height and masculinity. Psychological characteristics would include sexual aggressiveness. Aggression is therefore more liable to be passed down to the next generation and to modern males, making them exceedingly likely to assert their control over women (Goldstein, 2002). Another related drive is that of paternal certainty. Males of any species generally want to ensure that the offspring of females with which they have reproduced are, in fact, theirs. The concept of paternal certainty guarantees that males assure their genetics are passed down. The fact that female fidelity within sexual relationships would sanction for greater paternal certainty, whereas male fidelity would not do the same has led to social norms of harsher punishments for female adultery as well as norms of patriarchal control. Likewise, it elucidates the behavior which is used to control women (Goldstein, 2002). The thought that there is no other work out there for the textile workers and if they complain about the situation, there s a chance they could lose their jobs could be an example. In turn, it forces the workers to accept what they are given and continue on with their lives, which then explains hegemony. Hegemony is the acceptance of these ideologies as a normal way of life. As a whole, the community genuinely believes that they have no other choice but to endure poor working conditions, long hours with very few breaks, and low pay.
