The Reflection Of Ludwig Van Beethoven And Beethoven s...
When one thinks of the most influential composers of the Classical period, who comes to mind? To
name a few, most individuals would state Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. All three of these men
made great contributions to Classical music. However, Beethoven s Ninth Symphony was
considered one of the greatest works of Classical musicby both complying to and stretching the
norms of the era. Not only did Beethoven represent the formal ideals of the era, but he also opened
the era to new possibilities of freedom.
A symphony is a musical composition for an orchestra, it employs several movements. This music
is usually disciplined and lengthy. The word symphГµnia is of Greek origin meaning notes
sounding together. It often indicated ensemble music in the 16th century. Symphonies for
instruments only arose in the Baroque period (Libin, LE). At this point in time someone usually
conducted, but not in the same manner we see today. The symphony genre that is displayed in
Beethoven s Ninth is the product of the classical period. The strings were then imperative and each
instrument carried its own language. In addition to this, orchestras were gaining size and sounds
were changing. Currently, the orchestra is experiencing freedom. The sections are interchangeable
with size, so it changes to the composers liking ( A Short History of the Symphony Orchestra ).
Ludwig van Beethoven composed the Ninth Symphony, even though he was deaf at the time. Many
individuals thought that he could not

The Information You Need If You Want to Be a News Anchor
Introduction
For a person who wants to be an anchor of a news station like me, you think you can talk about
everything and anything pertaining to the news, this is incorrect. Every show has regulations set
by the Government. This goes for television, radio, newspaper, magazines and even for the
internet. If any sort of media fails to abide by these rules, it is easy for the company to be sued or
the network to become canceled. If you are part of the television crowd and want to go into this
career cluster, this information would be very helpful to know.
Cross Ownership
If you are interested in owning a broadcasting company, you may, however, you would not be
allowed to also own a newspaper company at the same time. This is because the Federal
Communications Commission A.K.A the FCC will not allow cross ownership. According to
Common Cause (n.d.), the Federal Communications Commission describes cross ownership as a
single owner depriv(ing) a community of important, diverse source(s) of news, information, and
opinion. This goes to show that if one company were to own both newspaper companies and news
stations in one area, then most of its information could be assumed as being biased and one sided.
This is called the cross ownership ban. Along with broadcast and newspaper cross ownership, there
is also radio and television cross ownership. This pertains to the number of television and radio
stations a company can own in one community. However, the rules on this ban

The Effects Of Climate Change On Africa s Security...
The Lacuna in the Climate Conflict Literature
The extant literature shows two trends. First, a few large N studies which showed strong
correlations between climate and conflict used civil war datasets as the measure of the outcome
variable. The use of an aggregated country level civil war data may be missing the most important
features of the accuracy, degree, and severity of the impact of climate change on Africa s security
environment. The use of civil war and political violence datasets to capture the impact of climate
change may produce misleading outcomes. Unlike civil conflict and political violence, climate
related conflicts may be mirroring the ebb and flow of climatic conditions. Different from civil
wars and political violence, climate related conflicts may become intense during the drier months
and recede during the rainy or wet months of the year. Using aggregated country level civil war
datasets to measure climate induced conflicts misses the important nuances we need to determine
cause and effect the causation linking climate change to violent conflict, and exposes such
analysis to the ecological fallacy trap. The drawback of using aggregated data has been addressed
by studies using sub state, micro level data, and case studies. Most of the studies that used sub state
data also reported connections between climate and conflict, and most were situated in the Horn of
Africa or in countries with histories of volatilities. Finally, there are those who suggested

Non-Objective Art
The avid artistic viewer in America in the 1930s saw Hilla Rebay s collection at the Guggenheim
museum. They analyzed concluded non objective art stood at the pinnacle of the art world.
Simple to understand, it breaks down the wall between cultures. Non objective art requires no
cultural or theological lens. When viewing non objective art, the observer deduces the following:
In modern day, non objective art offers a sense of relief and beauty unbeknownst to the rest of the
art scene. Therefore, non objective art appears universal. In her essay, The Beauty of Non
Objectivity, Rebay explains how, ...intuitive creations are understandable to all nations alike
through the universal language of art. In this essay, I explore the use of the following artistic
elements in Rebay s Composition 1:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her comparison to music gets the viewer to interact with the piece in a new way. Kandinsky
accomplished a similar task. Kandinsky s works , The bright yellows represent the blaring
vibration of a trumpet sound. Blues create calming, spiritual waves. In a similar fashion, Rebay
uses color to emulate the motion of sound. Her red oranges create a lively melody. Though, it is
important to recognize she is not representing a song. Rebay s composition remains purely non
objective. However, its effect on the viewer is akin to the feeling a song would provide a listener.
Rebay s explanations about non objective art are not gratuitous or excessive. She appeals to the
viewer and asks them to acknowledge the work on an emotional level. How the work makes you
feel: this is important to Rebay. By not focusing on the object, Rebay s work can ignore explicit
details. This then allows her to draw back on the core elements of art. Color, form and rhythm
become the order of operations for her painting. Rebay shows the viewer the touch of the painter s
hand as well as a seamless quality of

The Enlightenment For Independence And The Enlightenment...
In the eighteenth century, Enlightenment ideas of universal human rights inspired the American
and French Revolutions. Following Napoleon s invasion of Spain, such ideas also ignited
independence movements in Spanish America in the early nineteenth century. SimГіn BolГvar, the
Liberator of much of Spanish South America, cited Enlightenment ideology to justify
independence. In his Cartagena Manifesto and Jamaica Letter, BolГvar used Enlightenment
political ideology to promote criollo¬ led centralized authority and to inspire criollos to support
independence. In his letters, BolГvar championed criollo led centralized authority rather than
decentralized federalism, which he assailed as the cause of the first Venezuelan Republic s demise...

Most importantly, such a contract created what Rousseau called the general will, a people s
common interests, which Rousseau charged governments and their people with the responsibilities
to uphold and obey respectively (Friend). BolГvar s criticisms regarding federalism echoed such
ideas: by authorizing self government, the federal system disrupt[ed] social contracts and
reduce[d] nations to anarchy because each province developed and chased its own interests at the
expense of a general will (6). A single authority, however, would be able to enforce or even unite
the people under such a general will (8). BolГvar also pointed to missing political virtues and
experience for federalism s unsuitability in Venezuela, something for which he blamed Spanish rule;
thus, his criticism of federalism also rallied his criollo audience against Spanish rule through
Enlightenment rhetoric and appeals to criollos hostility towards peninsular discrimination. In his
Cartagena Manifesto, BolГvar argued that federalism did not suit Venezuela (nor other Spanish
American viceroyalties) because the Venezuelan people lack[ed] the political virtues which would
allow them to exercise their rights and carry out their civic duties to the fullest measure (7). In his
Jamaica Letter, BolГvar explained why: the greed[y] Spaniards removed the criollos from the
administration of the state, preventing them from managing high level

Alexander s Great Intentions
Alexander deployed his cavalry to help take out the Persians right flank. Both middle and left
flank were having trouble staying in formation and holding their positions on Alexander s side.
After Alexander took the right flank, he was able to see that his infantry needed desperate help,
and sent his cavalry to help his infantry (2016). Soon Darius left flank was pushed back as far as
possible and Alexander was now pressing force from the left flank, from the mountains, and from
the front, the plains. Alexander explained,
Fortune was not kinder to Alexander in the choice of ground, than he was careful to improve it to
his advantage. For being much inferior in numbers, so far from allowing himself to be outflanked,
he stretched his right wing much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Persian infantry fell back and soon after the left flank did as well. It was in the evening
when the battle ended so the Macedonians did not follow. Out of 41,000 of Alexander s men, he
lost 7,000 troops that day. The Persians lost more men. King Darius III lost approximately
20,000 men. This was an embarrassing defeat for Darius. It was the first time Darius had lost a
battle but Darius knew how to use the resources of his empire and how to organize ( Issus (333
BCE) ) . After the battle of Issus, Alexander was now able to go through Syria. This allowed him
to continue his march and campaign ( Issus [333 BCE] ). A few months after the victory of Issus,
Alexander the Great headed south along the coast. Alexander s goal was still to take all the port
cities due to lack of Macedonian naval fleet. He entered Phoenicia where he captured Byblus and
Sidon. He came along the city of Tyre. Alexander wanted to sacrifice himself to Heracles in Tyre.
The Phoenician god, Melqart, was roughly the same to the Greek Heracles. The Tyrians recognized
the Macedonian troops. They were highly suspicious that this was Alexander s way to occupy the
city.

displayed when he fires his gun at the eyes of a corpse and then says that according to native
belief once one loses his sight they will forever roam the spirit world ceaselessly. This is
especially monstrous as one understands that he is not limited to destruction and hatred on a

proceedings in this film are extremely biased as many characters have assumed the native american
people to be savages. Even the reason for Ethan s hate is highly unlikely due to

Vaccines And The Eradication Of Malaria
Vaccines are crucial components to put an end to Malaria. The process of eradicating Malaria
starts with studying Plasmodium falciparum. People have supportedthe efforts of trying to
decrease the intensity of the disease, but if malaria vaccines are to be used as part of a tool for the
eradication of malaria, they will need to have an impact on malaria transmission. They ve brought
us the concept of vaccines that stops malaria transmission .Transmission blocking vaccines target
the sexual and mosquito stages but also the asexual stage vaccines that have an effect on
transmission.Vaccines have also been useful for sustained control of diseases.
Introduction
A malaria diseased area has been classified as transmission intensity. However, malaria
epidemiology cannot be characterized on a one dimensional scale. Evidence of specific clinical
locations of disease or parasite species, is the beginning of natural immunity. The spread of an
antimalarial drug resistance, and vectors involved in transmission, among others, spread across
endemic areas. If the eradication is to be a success, then the malaria vaccine will need to target
other malaria parasite species, especially Plasmodium.
Discussion
Furthermore, malaria parasites have a complex life cycle in which they infect humans and are
transmitted by Anopheline mosquitoes. The completion of the parasite life cycle was a success and
requires specific molecular interactions between the parasite and host or vector tissues. It may be

Child Master Research Paper
Many young children struggle with mastering the /r/ sound. This sound can be challenging for
them to master. Here are a few tricks you can use at home to help your child master the /r/ sound.
Understanding The Challenge
In order to help your child master the /r/ sound, you first have to understand why it is a challenging
sound for your child to master in the first place.
This sound is often considered one of the hardest to master sounds in the English language in large
part because three different actions have to be performed together in order to produce the /r
/ sound. The /r/ sound requires the use of one s lips, tongue and throat. All three of these ares of
one s body have to construct in order to make the /r/ sound correctly.
The key to helping your child master this skill is to focus on each action separately, and then put all
three together. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When you make the /r/ sound, your lips actually make the shape of an O . Try staying the word
raccoon while looking in a mirror. You ll notice that your lips make an O shape as you say raccoon
and other words that start with the letter r, such as rabbit and rainbow.
You can help your child learn how to make this shape by teaching them how to make a fish face. In
order to make a fish face, one sticks their lips out and creates a O like shape with their lips. You
also pull in your checks a little bit as well.
By encouraging your child to make a fish face, you are providing your child with a visual image
that they can relate to and you are making the activity fun for your child.

How was Charlestown hard to settle ? Did you know that from 1670 to 1783, the city was

difficulty was the resources in Charlestown for the settlers. It was a struggle to settle there
because a lot of animals and some soil weren t good. The soil wasn t good in some places
because the soil was to sandy and it was burthen d with Iron stone. Although there were places
that didn t have good soil , there were natural lawns and some of them as beautiful as those made

Tigers , Wolves and other beasts of prey lurked around in Charlestown. A disease made
Charlestown hard to settle there as well. The disease is called Small Pox . Small Pox is a virus
that is contagious, disfiguring, and often deadly. It can be spread by blood products (unclean
needles or unscreened blood) , airborne respiratory droplets (coughs or sneezes) , skin to skin
contact (handshakes or hugs) and saliva (kissing or shared drinks). This disease was spreading

On several levels, the Internet and related advances in technology have significantly affected
financial services broadly, and insurance markets more specifically. When combined with
globalization and regulatory reform, these advances have forced the insurance industry to become
more competitive. We will discuss here specifically the split or disruption in the insurance business

Agents can be captive, meaning they write only for one company, or independent, meaning that
they can issue policies from several companies. The existence and success of companies using
insurance agents is likely due to improved and personalized service and relationships.
With regard to the traditional Automobile insurance, the product itself has become standardized
primarily due to government regulations and lender requirements. There really isn t any further
product innovation that takes place. This has led to extreme process innovation and, combined with
the velocity of technological change, has allowed the non specific auto insurance product to split
from the traditional insurer.
Transaction Cost Advantages for Internet based Insurance
Insurance companies selling and servicing over the Internet will have a cost advantage over
traditional insurers in the range of 58% to 71% over the lifetime of a customer. Savings are driven
by reduced sales costs, cheaper and better information capture. (Booz Allen amp; Hamilton, 1997)
Personal Auto insurance has become nonspecific or generic, where computers and software can
handle the entire transaction, from start to finish. Increasingly predictive modeling technology is
being used by personal auto insurance carriers to augment or automate the rating/pricing and

Health Care For The United States

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), per capita national health
expenditures totaled $9,255 and total national health care expenditures totaled $2.9 trillion in 2013
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013).
Despite the substantial amount of money spent on health care in the United States, gaps existed in
the health insurance system that failed to provide adequate coverage to a significant proportion of
the population. The primary avenue for accessing health care is through health insurance; therefore,
those who lacked health insurance lacked access to health care. In an attempt to expand coverage to

In 2013, annual premiums for individual coverage averaged $5,884 and $16,351 for family
coverage. This equated to workers spending $83/month for individual coverage and $380/month
for family coverage (Majerol et al., 2015). Despite the significant cost of health insurance for
individuals and their families, the cost of coverage offered was not linked to favorable health
outcomes. This begs the question: was it worth it for workers to spend their limited financial
resources on health care coverage?
Adults less than 65 years of age from low or moderate income families comprise the majority of
uninsured Americans because Medicare covers health insurance for elderly adults greater than
age 65. Furthermore, adults were more likely to lack health insurance than children because
Medicaid and the Children s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provide health insurance
coverage for children. Minorities were much more likely to be uninsured than whites and the
majority of the uninsured population were native or naturalized United States citizens (Majerol
et al., 2015). Non citizens residing in the U.S. had poor access to employer sponsored health
care coverage because they were more likely to be employed in jobs with poor wage
compensation and industries that did not offer health care coverage. In the majority of cases,
immigrants who were lawfully present in the U.S. were considered to be ineligible for Medicaid or

Private Troubles And Public Issues That People Face In...
When talking about the troubles that people face and the issues that society faces, it is important to
understand that they both go hand in hand. The private troubles that one faces make contribute to
the public issues that the society faces, and vice versa. Growing up there were a few significant
events that would be considered my private troubles yet public issues contuted to making the
troubles. Growing up I was a fine example of mills theory Neither the life of an individual nor the
history of a society can be understood without understanding both (Mills 3). One clear example of a
troublethat I have face in my life is the suicide of my papa. He was dealing with his personal
troubles to keep our family afloat, finish his education, struggling with internal self esteem, and
PTSD from the military. His PTSD would show up in the way that he would treat my mom and
me. I would consider this a personal trouble because it what he felt internally and what my mom
and went through during his death. My family went through many rough times with keeping
food on the tables and my papa s PTSD affecting our everyday life. Finally, one day it seemed as
if hiss PTSD took the very last thing, him. He faced many troubles as a child but it wasn t until he
joined the military and got deployed that the troubles stared to hit home. Because he was struggling
with providing for the family he felt less than, affecting his self esteem. He had his personal

The Language Of An Organization Essay
An association without a language specifically used for communicating is unfathomable. Workers
in an organization utilize language to express and empathize with others opinions, maintain
communication, take care of issues, learn and develop, decide, and monitor records. As the
globalization of business has made corporations and organizations with outposts throughout the
world, language boundaries have developed into many different issues that would have gone
unnoticed on account of domestic organizations, where representatives impart in their primary
language. Given this globalized business environment, it is crucial for multinational corporations to
devise a primarily spoken language. Throughout most of the world, that primary language used in
companies and business is English.
English is a lingua franca, or a common or bridge language as it is often called. Bridge languages
are primarily spoken languages across the world: English, Chinese Mandarin, German, etc.
English is the most prominent language spoken, having 1.5 billion speakers across the world
according to Statista, and Mandarin, the secondary language, has a measly 1.1 billion. This
major difference in speakers has developed the use of English as a major language in trade.
Many companies are undergoing a process termed Englishization which is the process of making

I feel that this novel was banned due to its content of drug use, sex, and crime. Although the novel
is not explicit in these areas the subject matter is still present. I also feel that this novel was
censored due to its portrayal of racism of both the white man against the black man and the black
man against the white man. White peopleare portrayed as devils and there is a constant theme of
separation and discrimination. This book holds ideals that most people may find digressive in the
sense that integration is almost no longer an issue, given that people tend to not question a black

Yet as I continued reading there was still something about the book that I didn t like and I couldn

Muhammad taught that no marriage could succeed where the women did not look up with
respect to the man. And the man had to have something above and beyond the wife in order for
her to be able to look to him for psychological security (X 263 4). This quote explains that woman
should meet a certain physical requirement before the man can accept her in a marriage. The
white people would only let a black man into the same work place if they felt that they were
better than him. This is paralleled in the statement that a man should only take a woman they
knew they were better than. Upon realizing my qualm with this book I searched it find further
evidence. It seems that some women love to be exploited. When they are not exploited, they
exploit the man.[...]Always every now and then, I had given her a hard time, just to keep her in

The Fall Of The House Of Usher Essay
This Obscure Story The Gothic and Romantic themes in The Fall of the House of Usher are

successfully includes darkness and horror in several dramatic events and objects. Edgar Allan
Poe in The Fall of the House of Usher testifies the darkness of its landscape and the symbolism of

plays a valuable role on how the belief of Gothicism signifies the mood of this haunted short story.

Edgar Allan Poe illustrates the idea of symbolism of the house and Usher twins through the
condition of the house and the twins, the collapse of the twins, and the strong bond between the
twins, the house and the darkness and evil throughout the story. First, the man made object may
have symbolizes the condition of the house and twins. The house of Usher was described
throughout the story as old and cracked. The same description is indirectly stated to the Usher
twins, Roderick and Madeline Usher. They are both old in age and ill. Next, the house
symbolized the twin s collapse, which led to the collapse of the house itself. The state that
Madeline was in caused her death, which also lead to Roderick s death. The disintegration of the
twins minds was, most likely, the cause of the catastrophic breakdown of the house. The twins
were also in the same condition as the house, which might also be another cause to the collapse of
the house since both were, again, described as old and cracked. The separation of the twins disrupts
the balance, destroying both [the house and the Usher twins] (Timmerman 168). The vitalities of
the Ushers had brought about the decay of the family line (Abel 381) and the strong bond between

America (HCA). Parallon came into existence a little over 15 years ago. HCA believed they
needed a change in their image after the fraudulent actions of the former CEO Rick Scott. Parallon
was that image change. The meaning behind the name is to be parallel with who they serve
(patients, clients, and their communities). Parallon s purpose is to serve and enable those who care
for and improve human life in their communities. Our values consist of acting with integrity in
everything we do, work as a unified team, humbly serve our communities and those who serve/heal
others, constantly learn and transfer that knowledge to our clients, have accountability... Show more

At the staff employee level there are two ways to evaluate performance. Productivity is established
within the departments and is analyzed routinely. Quality assurance (QA) is a method that is used
to monitor the quality of work being processed. Productivity and QA are done in each department
and the methods used are contingent upon the department s processes. As a manger or team lead
their performance is evaluated on the departments goals. Each department will determine and be
provided with goals for the upcoming year. These goals evaluate the performance of the
department s key tasks. For example, we have a goal of posting all cash and wires that comes in for
the current month before accountings end of the month (which is the 4th day of the following
month). At the director level there may be several departments or just one under their
responsibility. The director is evaluated on his or her ability to achieve their department goals and
meet their executive officers formal expectations. The executive team is evaluated by HCA
division. We have goals that encompass the entire Tampa Bay Shared Service Center. For example,
one goal is a specific amount of cash collected for the year. This is measured monthly and discussed
routinely in our town hall meetings (Parallon: Tampa Patient Account Services,

Listeriaia Meningitis Research Paper
Listeriosis is predominantly a food borne illness caused by the ubiquitous Gram positive bacterium
Listeria monocytogenes, initially recognized as a foodborne pathogen in the early 1980s. People
most prone to the disease are pregnant women, newborns, elderly, and those with HIV or other
diseases that compromise immunity. Listeria infections are associated with a high mortality rate,
thus effective treatment and prevention are essential. Antimicrobial therapy Successful treatment of
listeriosis with ampicillin or penicillin as a monotherapy has been reported in the medical
literature. Nevertheless, since in vitro tolerance or even resistance to penicillin alone has been
described, and there are a plethora of studies showing in vitro synergy... Show more content on

The bacteriemic and meningitic forms of listeriosis can be cured, but serious complications can
ensue despite prompt antimicrobial therapy. After the infection of central nervous systems,
sequelae such as strabismus, hydrocephalus and retardation may arise. Hence the best approach is
to prevent listeroisis from the get go. General recommendations for prevention are the same as for
other foodborne infections, and include thorough cooking of raw food from animal sources,
careful washing of raw vegetables before cooking, the avoidance of unpasteurized milk, as well as
adequate hand hygiene. Those at increased risk of acquiring listeriosis should refrain from eating
soft cheeses, refrigerated pГўtes, refrigerated smoked seafood, meat spreads, luncheon meats and
deli meats (unless they are cooked until steaming hot). Cross contamination of other foods, utensils
and food preparation surfaces with fluids from hot dog packages should be

Reflection Of The Journal Of Active Listening With My Parents
Active Listening Journal I have been evaluating conversations I have had over the past few days
to find good candidates to record in this journal. The first conversation which has been relevant to
write about is one that I had on FaceTime with my parents. We had the opportunity to talk for
almost half an hour on Sunday afternoon. We talked about many different things, including how
our days were, what the weather is like back home and up here, how my brothers are doing, how
our dogs are doing, and other random things that popped into our minds as we just enjoyed talking
to one another. I have taken it upon myself to call them every night, even if it is just to talk for a
few minutes. During this particular conversation, I noticed two things that I did particularly well
while practicing active listening with my parents. First off, I noticed that I reflected very well in the
conversation. One example stands out among the others, my dad was telling of how he had
experienced trouble with one of our tractors earlier that day. To reflect on that topic, I
commented It sounds to me like that break is going to end up being quite a costly malfunction!
Along with reflection, I also noticed that I sufficiently used the component of sharing. While
having a conversation with mom about one of our dogs, I respectfully shared my own view on
the decision of whether or not to breed her, even though it differed from her and dad s. They
were actually impressed by the argument I put forward and we now are going to have two litters
of puppies instead of just one! By effectively using these attributes of an active listener, I feel that
my conversation with my parents was greatly enhanced compared to some of the past times we
have talked. I also noticed a couple of active listener traits that needed improvement. Surprisingly, I
was not paying full attention to my parents during part of the call. I was Face Timing them on my
computer while trying to multitask and complete a survey for another class at the same time during
our conversation. I became so invested in the survey that my dad actually stopped talking to regain
my attention. To prevent this situation, I will simply maximize the FaceTime app to eliminate
distractions.

New France Essay
In the sixteenth century, France s efforts to colonize North America was jeopardized by religious
conflict between the Catholics and the Protestants. The French were interested in fur trade; this

Interracial Marriage Should Be Permitted Or Rejected
Interracial relationships rates have dramatically increased in the United States of America (Kalmijn
1993; Qian 1997). The mixing of cultures between whites and African Americans has considerably
overcome its old barriers and is currently being witnessed throughout the country. According to
Joyner and Kao 2005, dating outside one s racehas grown to be very common nowadays. In 1967,
the case of Richard Loving and Mildred Jeter in the State of Virginia rose up controversies on
whether interracial marriageshould be permitted or rejected. After the Supreme court decision to
legalize interracial marriage, the subject has gradually become more prominent. The objective in
this paper is of three folds: first to demonstrate that interracial relationships are a treasure to the
American Society and to analyze the impact of racial injustice in today s interracial relationships
with much regard to the African American community during and after slavery. Second, it is to
compare and contrast the pros and cons arguments toward the mixing of races. Third, to evaluate
the power of prejudice and how far is can go.
Interracial relationships were prevalent in America since the times of slavery even though they are
actually obtaining a lot more consideration today. Audrey Smedley, author of Race in North
America: Origins of a Worldview , reported the very first mulatto child was born in 1620. Although
desegregation has been achieved, a profound analysis shows that discriminations based upon

The 5 Communication Styles Based On The Lecture Material
PD7 A2
JRMARION
The 5 communication styles based on the lecture material are competing, avoiding, accommodating,
compromising and collaborating.
The competing style is used when people trying to achieve a goal or accomplish something. It is
used during arguments, such as when you are arguing against somebody else to prove a point.
The avoiding style is used when a person shows little interest in the other party they are
communicating with. This is used when often when interacting with a person you identify as an
unimportant stranger, such as when you bump into a stranger in a crowd and apologize.
The compromising style is used when a person cares about who they are interacting with and care
about their objectives / goals. An example of this would be scheduling with a friend over when to
meet up to do something since you care about their opinion and are willing to try to compromise.
The accommodating stance is used when you care more about the other party s goals more than
your own (in many cases). An example of this would be if your boss asked you to work overtime
and even though you didn t want to you agreed to do it.
The collaborating stance is used when both parties plan to accomplish their goals fully (unlike
compromising where the goals cannot be fully met) and to improve the relationship between them.
An example of this would be trading with somebody where both sides end up better off afterwards.

Paul Laurence Dunbar Essay
Poetry is the most passionate and personal way Paul Dunbar could express himself. Through
specific poetic devices such as tone, rhyme, persona and form Dunbar is able to influence the
emotions of his audience. Poetry is a beautiful melancholy form of writing used to express a
specific theme or lesson. Paul Dunbar writes a poem in the form of a rondeau to achieve a
memorable rhythm used to better express the theme. The hardships of his life have impacted his
poetry, and have allowed him to better connect with the hardships others face as well.Paul Laurence

Dunbar lived his entire life wearing a deceiving smile upon his face to conceal the torment he
had endured. People wear disguises that seem to be joyful and pleasant but are really nothing
but lies. The author uses we so his audience can connect themselves to him and the message
within his poem. This makes the theme of the poem universal to all people. Hides our cheeks is
significant because facial cheeks are a good way of showing emotion, such as blushing (2).
Blushing could show embarrassment, and lifting of the cheeks could indicate a smile. So hiding
ones cheeks would be an efficient way of concealing emotions. The author shades our eyes
because eyes are thought to be the peepholes into a persons thoughts and feelings (2). This debt
we pay to human guile (3). This obligation we feel to hide our emotions is due to the slyness of
our human nature. People constantly feel as though they have to hide their pain and sorrows
from the eyes of others. With torn and bleeding hearts we smile (5). The author points out no
matter how much emotional pain a person might be in, they still smile their biggest to hide the
agony. We smile, but, O great Christ, our cries/ To thee from tortured souls arise (10 11). Dunbar
emphasizes the fact that while smiling, people are silently crying to God. They are praying for a
release from the torture they endure every single day. We sing, but oh the clay is vile (12). Singing

Every Student Succeeds Improving No Child Left Behind
There have been many reforms that have been put in place since schools were created in 1635 .
New acts are created and changed as America and its school system continues to change. Lyndon
B. Johnson, to face the problem of war on poverty , created the Elementary and Secondary School
Act of 1965. As America changed, in 2001, George W. Bush signed the No Child Left Behind Act
to replace the 1965 act because America was no longer competing internationally with other

These tests play a large role in the lives of teachers and students, and it creates controversy and
hardships in the education system.
NCLB has directly affected teachers and their stability of their jobs. In this act, teachers are
evaluated based on student s standardized test scores. There are many factors that affect students
when they take standardized tests. Students could understand all of the material, but when they
take the test have anxiety, and not do well. Student disabilities also need to be a factor to
consider. All students are different, and teachers should not have to worry about losing their jobs
based on one test that their students take. According to Levine, Tests made it easier to identify
substandard teachers and easier to justify firing them. (Levine). Standardized tests should not be
used as a way to justify; they should be used to test what a student has learned. The importance of
these tests is causing teachers to only focus on the material to make sure the students do well on
the tests. They solely focus on what will be on these tests, which affects the other factors students
need to learn at school. This is called teaching to the test . For example, students should learn how
to do an oral presentation and group projects, which could potentially be pushed to a corner to
focus strictly on testing material. Focusing just on testing material could also make teachers not
focus on their creativity in lesson plans. This deprives

Adam Smith Influence on Economic Theory Essay
Why is the work of Adam Smith considered so crucial in the development of economic thought?
Adam Smith is widely regarded as the father of economics as a social science, and is perhaps
best known for his work The Wealth of Nations. Throughout this work Smith states and informs
towards his belief that society is not at its most productive when ruled over by rules and
limitations with regards to trade, and that in order for markets to maximise prosperity, a free trade
environment should be made accessible. In this essay I intend to asses the way in which many of
Smiths theories taken directly form his works can be applied to past and current situations, first
from an economic then social, and then a political point of view. I will also... Show more content on

The invisible hand would have such an effect if every individual acts in order to maximise their
own prosperity, the prosperity of the community will, in turn, be maximised and become more
efficient. This effect is very well exemplified in modern day terms by using a supermarket queuing
system as an example. Each customer getting in line selfishly chooses to maximize his own interest,
that is to check out in the shortest time, regardless of the other customers. Their utility maximizing
choice is to get in queue in the shortest line; this means that eventually customers queue up in lines
all of the same length. Therefore even without the slightest direction and by following only their
selfishness, the lines are all of the same length, which is clearly the most efficient disposition. This
theory has been crucial in the development of economic thought in that it is a statement which
reflected society in Smiths day, and is still so widely applicable in modern day society. From a
political point of view, Smith wrote that Government intervention should be kept to a minimum
within society. From a mercantilist point of view this was a terrible suggestion, however Smith
argued that government intervention in markets will cause a limitation in productivity, and
therefore not maximise efficiency. However if left alone as discussed in the previous paragraph,
each party will seek to maximise its own prosperity within the given constraints, in turn maximising

The Common Oral Health Problems
Gum disease is one of the most common oral health problems. In fact, it is estimated that 75
percent of adults who are over the age of 30 have gum disease. Forty seven percent of adults who
are over the age of 30 have periodontitis, which is the most serious form of gum disease.
Untreated gum disease will eventually destroy the bone and tissue that supports the teeth. It can
also lead to tooth loss. In fact, gum disease is the top cause of tooth loss in adults. Fortunately,
gum disease can be prevented. Below are some tips for preventing gum disease:
Good Oral Hygiene
Good oral hygiene is one of the keys to preventing gum disease. The mouth is filled with disease
causing bacteria. Brushing and flossing helps prevent bacteria and plaque from building up in your
mouth. You should brush your twice every day. Ideally, you should brush in the morning and before
going to bed. You should spend at least two minutes brushing your teeth.
You will need to floss daily. Flossing helps loosen and remove food particles and bacteria.
Professionals have debated about whether it is best to floss before or after you brush. However, it
does not matter whether or not you floss before you brush. As long as you are flossing and
brushing regularly, your oral health will greatly benefit it.
You should consider using an anti plaque mouthwash after you brush and floss. The mouthwash can
help eliminate the bacteria and plaque that may be left behind. It also helps prevent cavities.

Rocking Horse Winner
Being loved and cared for is what most people have grown up to know. Rocking Horse Winner
by DH Lawrence is about a little boy who wants to make his mother happy. Lawrence uses
money, the house, and the rocking horse as symbols to convey the theme that greed destroys
happiness. To start off, money symbolises happiness for a person. In the story it is said, There
must be more money! There must be more money! to make it be known that they need more
money constantly. It also tries to say that luck is all you need and that it is better to be born
lucky than rich . If you re rich you may lose your money. But if you re lucky you ll always get
more money (Gillett). The luck will always be with you. The story breaks down to the ones who
think puts love with money and luck with happiness . Paul s mom thinks that money will make her
happy though it has not yet. Paul, who learns from his motherto associate love with money,
represents the desperate search for values in a cash culture. The force of Lawrence s satire is
directed at a society that is dominated by a quest for cash, and at those who buy into the deadly
equation of love equals money (Piedmont Marton). When he felt that he made his mother happy,

Leadership And The Leadership Styles
1.Webster s defines Leadership as the action of leading a group of people or an organization .
That definition really does the word no justice because leadership can look like a great many
things to different people, and there are equally as many ways to lead. One can lead through fear
or respect, by word or by action. Introduction: My definition of leadershipand the leadership
influences in my career. I have had numerous leaders that have influenced my career and
leadership style to this point. The Chief on my first Patrol Boat was one of the biggest
influences I have had in my career. I remember how he carried himself with confidence. He
empowered his people. He had the personal power to inspire people to want to be better to not
disappoint him. But at the same time was able to hold people accountable, and have you learn
from the experience. I also had a cutter CO that illustrated for me all the qualities I promised
myself I would never be. They did not treat their crew with respect. By their level of
micromanagement, they demonstrated that they did not trust their crew. People just dreaded
coming to work never knowing what the day was going to bring. Even as I strive to ensure I am
never like that leader, there are times that I stop and find myself thinking along the same lines,
and demonstrating some of the same weaknesses. I can see how they fell into the traps that they
did. I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish in my career, and am happy

The Economics Of Happiness Is An Indicator Of Economic...
For centuries, economists have deliberated on the most effective ways to promote growth, to
increase employment, to boost consumption and to eliminate poverty, but where does this all lead?
Surely these are all means to an end? Today, some economists may define the end as happiness.
This essay will explore the potential benefits and drawbacks of using happiness as an indicator of
economic success, analyze how it can be measured and examine the current theories on whether
happiness can cause economic growth, or vice versa. Whilst economic growth first and foremost
implies an increase in GDP per capita, increasing happiness can be attributed to many different
determinants such as health, education, stability and inequality. Therefore, the economicsof
happiness is a multi layered and rather subjective area that divides economists when asked whether
happiness can cause economic growth.
To begin with, Stevenson and Wolfers (2008) propose that as countries grow richer, their citizens
report higher levels of satisfaction. This is achieved not only through higher income per capita
levels, but through the expected byproducts of an improving economy such as increases in levels of
education, access to healthcare, opportunities for employment and equality. Non income
determinants can be weighted against GDP levels to assess whether economic growth does impact
happiness. For example, using the Corruptions Perceptions Index it was found that Sub Saharan
Africa, one of the poorest

One day while on his way to pick up his children from school he stopped at a gas station to fill up
his tank. A bus had swerved off the road and hita pump while trying to avoid hitting a dog
crossing the street. Once the bus hit the pump instantly the gas station exploded. Eli had woken up
with major deja vu, a bright light above his head, his bare butt on a cold hospital mattress wearing
a hospital gown, and a thin blanket covering him.

Personal Reflection Of Personal Writing
Hi Professor Savage,
You mention in your email quite a few references to my writing having some serious issues, yet
in the grading not one example was pointed out . I ask that if you believe the same applies to any
part of the draft submission that you highlight at least the one that will explain any significant
point deduction. More, importantly, I would like to know exactly where I can use improvements,
plus I prefer clarity as to where and/or why points were taken off in this class. Sometimes stylistic
choice is mistaken for poor writing or incoherent or illogical as you suggested. I have not come
across any professor that has said so much about my writing (negatively) and not offer any
example. A link in this case is not exactly the solution for all that was implied. Anyhow, my main
goal is to focus on where I can fix it myself, so please. show where, next time thanks.
You said, The essayis not intended to be a personal reflection or a guide for writers but rather an
advocacy for an idea. The journal and notes came across reflective, well, because they re
preliminary tools, the scaffold to the final, right. I understand the draft and final are 3rd POV,
backed by annotation, and my opinion as well, but not delivered as a personal narrative. The
backstory was merely to show I am speaking from some experience. We cannot advocate what we
don t understand, sure credible annotations are needed, but self publishing is a hands on approach,
therefore, subjective, too.
I m concerned about a few things, and then again, not so much knowing all these assignments
leading to the actual final submission are meant to serve us as a form of outline the chaos,
ironed out. As you must be aware brainstorming can happen at any stage. However, I do have a
few comments on some changes you suggested (thanks) and those I have in mind. You said,
concisely, , and I assure you my aim for the final, I don t worry too much at these stages, as I will
rigorously edit, revise and chisel away from the draft, and then polish for the final. Furthermore,
incorporate any feedback if given and are applicable from the workshop and your grading notes. I
m not fond of MindEdge s outline approach, but I do get the gist, while still using what

The Great Gatsby Symbolism Essay
Maseratis. Porsches. Teslas. Many high end cars roam the streets on a daily basis. Cars are a
major expense and luxury for adults presently. For many, these cars are symbolic of their success
in achieving their American Dream having money. The American Dream during the roaring 20s is
a major topic in the story The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The troubles Tom and Daisy
Buchanan, an upper class couple, are experiencing lead the narrator, Nick Carraway, into many
sticky situations. Soon after Nick moved into his modest home amongst some of the most lavish in
New York, he was thrown into a love triangle between his neighbor and his dear cousin. Amidst the
chaos of reuniting past lovers, Fitzgerald portrays his view that the... Show more content on

Fitzgerald states, Luckily the clock took this moment to tilt dangerously at the pressure of his
head, whereupon he turned and caught it with trembling fingers and set it back in place, (91.)
The idea of the clock being defunct and falling off the mantel because of Gatsby s pressure
leaning against it, reiterates that time between Daisy and Gatsby is broken. It does not matter
they are together presently because they have lost too much time in the past five years. After
knocking over the clock Gatsby apologizes saying, I m sorry about the clock, (92). This quote
was not literally meant as an apology for knocking the clock over but instead was a plea to Daisy
reminding her of their love five years prior. Gatsby realizes time is precious and is trying to
work against the five years he has already lost. All of these references and the recurrence of the
symbol of the clock refers to the time Gatsby and Daisy have missed out on. Fitzgerald, as the
author, decided since Gatsby was a part of of the lower class, he missed out on the opportunity
to achieve his American Dream of possessing Daisy. However, Tom, who was part of the upper
class and came from old money , was the one who got to have her. Similarly, Fitzgerald uses rain
as a hint toward the future for Gatsby and Daisy. The idea of rain was introduced upon Daisy s
arrival at Nick s house in West Egg. Nick comments that, Under the dripping bare lilac trees a

Organizational Behavior Unit At Harvard Business School
Ranjay Gulati is the Jaime and Josefina Chua Tiampo Professor of Business Administration and
the Unit Head of the Organizational Behavior Unit at Harvard Business School. He also holds
the position of Chair of Harvard Business School s Advanced Management program ( Faculty
and Research ). Gulati focuses his research on the leadership, strategy, and organizational issues
in business firms and customer focused organizations. He studies leadership and strategic
challenges that businesses face when trying to build and expand their organizations in today s
chaotic markets. Gulati understood early on that as the economy evolved, the leadership
strategies and priorities also needed to evolve in order to continue progression and success
nationally and globally. He based his teaching syllabi on that basic idea of long term resilient
success. Gulati focused his research and his teaching on exploring the best way that managers can
stay on track and change their practices to stay successful in a dwindling economy as well as a
thriving one. His research has followed many companies and he has studied these companies for
years to document how each one remained successful and continued to compete in the growing
market. The basic leadership strategies are becoming different than they were generations before. A
new way of thinking and managing is becoming the norm in the 21st century. There is a greater
demand from consumers as well as a larger spectrum of competition in the market. The

Importance Of Heroes In Today s Society
According to Gerard Way ВЁ Heroes are ordinary people who make themselves extraordinaryВЁ.
There can be many people who are considered heroes in today s time. Such as people who rescue
people from life threatening situations. There are true heroes today because need help from others
so that is when heroesshow what they are made of. Role models could also be considered a hero to
some people but not to everyone. Heroes are definitely needed in today s society because not
everyone has what it takes to defend themselves or get themselves out of life threatening situations.
What would you do if you were in a situation where your life is in danger and there is no one there
to help you? Say you were in a burning house or had a severe injury, That s when heroes come in ,
Heroes come in many different shapes and sizes such as a doctor or a firefighter. It is who you
consider a hero is because a hero is a different to everyone. Some people might consider your hero
to be a normal person because they don t look at them the same as you do. Most people would
consider a hero as a person who is willing to risk there life for a other persons. If someone is
willing to risk their life for yours, you should consider them a hero because a lot of people wouldn t

Character Analysis Of Alice s Adventures In Wonderland
As a child, I identified with a little blond girl named Alice from C. S. Lewis Alice s Adventures
In Wonderland . This story works as an agent of socialization because Alice s adventures parallel
the journey from childhood to adulthood as she comes into new situations in which adaptability is
absolutely necessary for success. In the beginning of the story, she can barely maintain enough
composure to keep herself from crying. By the end, she is self possessed and able to hold her own
against the most perplexing Wonderland logic. Symbols are utilized throughout the story and most
every character and situation seem to represent the challenges associated with growing up from
childhood to adulthood.

Next, she slips in a pool when she is tiny which is made up of her tears that she shed when she
was very large. After swimming to shore, she finds herself in the woods where she meets up
with the White Rabbit. Mistaking her for his servant, the Rabbit sends her to his house. While
there Alice drinks another potion, and becomes too large to leave the house by the door. She
eventually finds a cake and eats it to make her small again. While in the woods, she meets
Caterpillar who is sitting on a large mushroom. The caterpillar gives her good advice and a piece
of mushroom which will make her smaller or bigger depending on which side she eats. Alice
continues through the woods and finds a little house and shrinks herself down enough to get inside.
Inside the house is the Duchess and the Cook who are fighting fiercely despite the fact that the
Duchess is nursing a baby. Alice takes the baby with her, but the child turns into a pig and runs off
into the woods. Alice next meets the Cheshire cat who helps her to find her way through the
woods, though he warns her that everyone she meets will be mad. Next Alice goes to the March
Hare s house, where she attends a Tea Party. The March Hare, the Hatter, and the Dormouse are
also guests at the party because ever since Time stopped working for the Hatter, it has always
been six o clock; so it s always tea time. The creatures of the Mad Tea Party are constantly arguing

St. Louis Art Museum Analysis
The St. Louis Art museum has one of the largest permanent exhibitions of a Max Beckmann
collection in the world. He was a German Expressionist and later became part of a newer style of
German art which came to be known as New Objectivity . During the last three years of his life,
he accepted a teaching position in the school of fine arts at Washington University in in 1947.
Morton D. May, CEO of the May Company, between 1945 and the mid 1950s began acquiring
German Expressionist works, a movement which was not well known in the United States at the
time. May was surprised that Beckmann was working at the nearby University. During Beckmann s
time in St. Louis they became friends. May, who was painting at the time hired him to be his tutor....

The reason I chose this artwork was because it wasn t so much focused on the catastrophe itself,
but the people s effort for survival. On April 15, 1912, the Titanic sank in the North Atlantic
Ocean. On its maiden voyage to New York, New York it collided with an iceberg. On board were
2,200 passengers, of those 1,507 died. Beckmann was said to be inspired by news accounts to
produce this work which at the time was a current event. The date of this art work is 1912 1913,
and the media is oil on canvas. When we think of the sinking of the Titanic, we think about an
unsinkable ship going down. This painting is not about that. It is about the passengers and their
fight for survival and what they must have gone through. The story in this painting is about how
they tried to survive and come to terms with the possibility of death. It is painted on a huge
canvas 8 foot by 11 foot in very dark and cool colors. The size and magnitude of this helps to
create a most impressive scene. Off in the distance in the right hand corner you can the still
brightly lit Titanic still upright and powered, drifting near the iceberg which sunk it. However, the
ship and the iceberg are not the focus of what the artist is trying to convey. The struggle of the
survivors and the lifeboats dominate the scene. In the center of the painting is a capsized lifeboat
with some of the surviving passengers

  • 2. The Reflection Of Ludwig Van Beethoven And Beethoven s... When one thinks of the most influential composers of the Classical period, who comes to mind? To name a few, most individuals would state Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. All three of these men made great contributions to Classical music. However, Beethoven s Ninth Symphony was considered one of the greatest works of Classical musicby both complying to and stretching the norms of the era. Not only did Beethoven represent the formal ideals of the era, but he also opened the era to new possibilities of freedom. A symphony is a musical composition for an orchestra, it employs several movements. This music is usually disciplined and lengthy. The word symphГµnia is of Greek origin meaning notes sounding together. It often indicated ensemble music in the 16th century. Symphonies for instruments only arose in the Baroque period (Libin, LE). At this point in time someone usually conducted, but not in the same manner we see today. The symphony genre that is displayed in Beethoven s Ninth is the product of the classical period. The strings were then imperative and each instrument carried its own language. In addition to this, orchestras were gaining size and sounds were changing. Currently, the orchestra is experiencing freedom. The sections are interchangeable with size, so it changes to the composers liking ( A Short History of the Symphony Orchestra ). Ludwig van Beethoven composed the Ninth Symphony, even though he was deaf at the time. Many individuals thought that he could not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Information You Need If You Want to Be a News Anchor Introduction For a person who wants to be an anchor of a news station like me, you think you can talk about everything and anything pertaining to the news, this is incorrect. Every show has regulations set by the Government. This goes for television, radio, newspaper, magazines and even for the internet. If any sort of media fails to abide by these rules, it is easy for the company to be sued or the network to become canceled. If you are part of the television crowd and want to go into this career cluster, this information would be very helpful to know. Cross Ownership If you are interested in owning a broadcasting company, you may, however, you would not be allowed to also own a newspaper company at the same time. This is because the Federal Communications Commission A.K.A the FCC will not allow cross ownership. According to Common Cause (n.d.), the Federal Communications Commission describes cross ownership as a single owner depriv(ing) a community of important, diverse source(s) of news, information, and opinion. This goes to show that if one company were to own both newspaper companies and news stations in one area, then most of its information could be assumed as being biased and one sided. This is called the cross ownership ban. Along with broadcast and newspaper cross ownership, there is also radio and television cross ownership. This pertains to the number of television and radio stations a company can own in one community. However, the rules on this ban ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Effects Of Climate Change On Africa s Security... The Lacuna in the Climate Conflict Literature The extant literature shows two trends. First, a few large N studies which showed strong correlations between climate and conflict used civil war datasets as the measure of the outcome variable. The use of an aggregated country level civil war data may be missing the most important features of the accuracy, degree, and severity of the impact of climate change on Africa s security environment. The use of civil war and political violence datasets to capture the impact of climate change may produce misleading outcomes. Unlike civil conflict and political violence, climate related conflicts may be mirroring the ebb and flow of climatic conditions. Different from civil wars and political violence, climate related conflicts may become intense during the drier months and recede during the rainy or wet months of the year. Using aggregated country level civil war datasets to measure climate induced conflicts misses the important nuances we need to determine cause and effect the causation linking climate change to violent conflict, and exposes such analysis to the ecological fallacy trap. The drawback of using aggregated data has been addressed by studies using sub state, micro level data, and case studies. Most of the studies that used sub state data also reported connections between climate and conflict, and most were situated in the Horn of Africa or in countries with histories of volatilities. Finally, there are those who suggested ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Non-Objective Art The avid artistic viewer in America in the 1930s saw Hilla Rebay s collection at the Guggenheim museum. They analyzed concluded non objective art stood at the pinnacle of the art world. Simple to understand, it breaks down the wall between cultures. Non objective art requires no cultural or theological lens. When viewing non objective art, the observer deduces the following: In modern day, non objective art offers a sense of relief and beauty unbeknownst to the rest of the art scene. Therefore, non objective art appears universal. In her essay, The Beauty of Non Objectivity, Rebay explains how, ...intuitive creations are understandable to all nations alike through the universal language of art. Her comparison to music gets the viewer to interact with the piece in a new way. Kandinsky accomplished a similar task. Kandinsky s works , The bright yellows represent the blaring vibration of a trumpet sound. Blues create calming, spiritual waves. In a similar fashion, Rebay uses color to emulate the motion of sound. Her red oranges create a lively melody. Though, it is important to recognize she is not representing a song. Rebay s composition remains purely non objective. However, its effect on the viewer is akin to the feeling a song would provide a listener. Rebay s explanations about non objective art are not gratuitous or excessive. She appeals to the viewer and asks them to acknowledge the work on an emotional level. How the work makes you feel: this is important to Rebay. By not focusing on the object, Rebay s work can ignore explicit details. This then allows her to draw back on the core elements of art. Color, form and rhythm become the order of operations for her painting. Rebay shows the viewer the touch of the painter s hand as well as a seamless quality of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Enlightenment For Independence And The Enlightenment... In the eighteenth century, Enlightenment ideas of universal human rights inspired the American and French Revolutions. Following Napoleon s invasion of Spain, such ideas also ignited independence movements in Spanish America in the early nineteenth century. SimГіn BolГvar, the Liberator of much of Spanish South America, cited Enlightenment ideology to justify independence. In his Cartagena Manifesto and Jamaica Letter, BolГvar used Enlightenment political ideology to promote criolloВ¬ led centralized authority and to inspire criollos to support independence. In his letters, BolГvar championed criollo led centralized authority rather than decentralized federalism, which he assailed as the cause of the first Venezuelan Republic s demise... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most importantly, such a contract created what Rousseau called the general will, a people s common interests, which Rousseau charged governments and their people with the responsibilities to uphold and obey respectively (Friend). BolГvar s criticisms regarding federalism echoed such ideas: by authorizing self government, the federal system disrupt[ed] social contracts and reduce[d] nations to anarchy because each province developed and chased its own interests at the expense of a general will (6). A single authority, however, would be able to enforce or even unite the people under such a general will (8). BolГvar also pointed to missing political virtues and experience for federalism s unsuitability in Venezuela, something for which he blamed Spanish rule; thus, his criticism of federalism also rallied his criollo audience against Spanish rule through Enlightenment rhetoric and appeals to criollos hostility towards peninsular discrimination. In his Cartagena Manifesto, BolГvar argued that federalism did not suit Venezuela (nor other Spanish American viceroyalties) because the Venezuelan people lack[ed] the political virtues which would allow them to exercise their rights and carry out their civic duties to the fullest measure (7). In his Jamaica Letter, BolГvar explained why: the greed[y] Spaniards removed the criollos from the administration of the state, preventing them from managing high level ... After the battle of Issus, Alexander was now able to go through Syria. This allowed him to continue his march and campaign ( Issus [333 BCE] ). A few months after the victory of Issus, Alexander the Great headed south along the coast. Alexander s goal was still to take all the port cities due to lack of Macedonian naval fleet. He entered Phoenicia where he captured Byblus and Sidon. He came along the city of Tyre. Alexander wanted to sacrifice himself to Heracles in Tyre. People have supportedthe efforts of trying to decrease the intensity of the disease, but if malaria vaccines are to be used as part of a tool for the eradication of malaria, they will need to have an impact on malaria transmission. They ve brought us the concept of vaccines that stops malaria transmission .Transmission blocking vaccines target the sexual and mosquito stages but also the asexual stage vaccines that have an effect on transmission.Vaccines have also been useful for sustained control of diseases. Introduction A malaria diseased area has been classified as transmission intensity. However, malaria epidemiology cannot be characterized on a one dimensional scale. Evidence of specific clinical locations of disease or parasite species, is the beginning of natural immunity. The spread of an antimalarial drug resistance, and vectors involved in transmission, among others, spread across endemic areas. If the eradication is to be a success, then the malaria vaccine will need to target other malaria parasite species, especially Plasmodium. Despite the significant cost of health insurance for individuals and their families, the cost of coverage offered was not linked to favorable health outcomes. The same description is indirectly stated to the Usher twins, Roderick and Madeline Usher. They are both old in age and ill. Next, the house symbolized the twin s collapse, which led to the collapse of the house itself. The state that Madeline was in caused her death, which also lead to Roderick s death. • 23. Reflection Of The Journal Of Active Listening With My Parents Active Listening Journal I have been evaluating conversations I have had over the past few days to find good candidates to record in this journal. The first conversation which has been relevant to write about is one that I had on FaceTime with my parents. We had the opportunity to talk for almost half an hour on Sunday afternoon. We talked about many different things, including how our days were, what the weather is like back home and up here, how my brothers are doing, how our dogs are doing, and other random things that popped into our minds as we just enjoyed talking to one another. I have taken it upon myself to call them every night, even if it is just to talk for a few minutes. During this particular conversation, I noticed two things that I did particularly well while practicing active listening with my parents. First off, I noticed that I reflected very well in the conversation. One example stands out among the others, my dad was telling of how he had experienced trouble with one of our tractors earlier that day. To reflect on that topic, I commented It sounds to me like that break is going to end up being quite a costly malfunction! Along with reflection, I also noticed that I sufficiently used the component of sharing. While having a conversation with mom about one of our dogs, I respectfully shared my own view on the decision of whether or not to breed her, even though it differed from her and dad s. They were actually impressed by the argument I put forward and we now are going to have two litters of puppies instead of just one! By effectively using these attributes of an active listener, I feel that my conversation with my parents was greatly enhanced compared to some of the past times we have talked. I also noticed a couple of active listener traits that needed improvement. Surprisingly, I was not paying full attention to my parents during part of the call. I was Face Timing them on my computer while trying to multitask and complete a survey for another class at the same time during our conversation. I became so invested in the survey that my dad actually stopped talking to regain my attention. To prevent this situation, I will simply maximize the FaceTime app to eliminate distractions. ... The mixing of cultures between whites and African Americans has considerably overcome its old barriers and is currently being witnessed throughout the country. According to Joyner and Kao 2005, dating outside one s racehas grown to be very common nowadays. In 1967, the case of Richard Loving and Mildred Jeter in the State of Virginia rose up controversies on whether interracial marriageshould be permitted or rejected. After the Supreme court decision to legalize interracial marriage, the subject has gradually become more prominent. The objective in this paper is of three folds: first to demonstrate that interracial relationships are a treasure to the American Society and to analyze the impact of racial injustice in today s interracial relationships with much regard to the African American community during and after slavery. Second, it is to compare and contrast the pros and cons arguments toward the mixing of races. Third, to evaluate the power of prejudice and how far is can go. Interracial relationships were prevalent in America since the times of slavery even though they are actually obtaining a lot more consideration today. The competing style is used when people trying to achieve a goal or accomplish something. It is used during arguments, such as when you are arguing against somebody else to prove a point. The avoiding style is used when a person shows little interest in the other party they are communicating with. This is used when often when interacting with a person you identify as an unimportant stranger, such as when you bump into a stranger in a crowd and apologize. The compromising style is used when a person cares about who they are interacting with and care about their objectives / goals. An example of this would be scheduling with a friend over when to meet up to do something since you care about their opinion and are willing to try to compromise. The accommodating stance is used when you care more about the other party s goals more than your own (in many cases). An example of this would be if your boss asked you to work overtime and even though you didn t want to you agreed to do it. The collaborating stance is used when both parties plan to accomplish their goals fully (unlike compromising where the goals cannot be fully met) and to improve the relationship between them. An example of this would be trading with somebody where both sides end up better off afterwards. The 4 communication tools for understanding cultural differences as ... There are many factors that affect students when they take standardized tests. Students could understand all of the material, but when they take the test have anxiety, and not do well. Student disabilities also need to be a factor to consider. All students are different, and teachers should not have to worry about losing their jobs based on one test that their students take. According to Levine, Tests made it easier to identify substandard teachers and easier to justify firing them. (Levine). Standardized tests should not be used as a way to justify; they should be used to test what a student has learned. The invisible hand would have such an effect if every individual acts in order to maximise their own prosperity, the prosperity of the community will, in turn, be maximised and become more efficient. This effect is very well exemplified in modern day terms by using a supermarket queuing system as an example. Each customer getting in line selfishly chooses to maximize his own interest, that is to check out in the shortest time, regardless of the other customers. Their utility maximizing choice is to get in queue in the shortest line; this means that eventually customers queue up in lines all of the same length. Therefore even without the slightest direction and by following only their selfishness, the lines are all of the same length, which is clearly the most efficient disposition. This theory has been crucial in the development of economic thought in that it is a statement which reflected society in Smiths day, and is still so widely applicable in modern day society. From a political point of view, Smith wrote that Government intervention should be kept to a minimum within society. From a mercantilist point of view this was a terrible suggestion, however Smith argued that government intervention in markets will cause a limitation in productivity, and therefore not maximise efficiency. However if left alone as discussed in the previous paragraph, each party will seek to maximise its own prosperity within the given constraints, in turn maximising the ... For centuries, economists have deliberated on the most effective ways to promote growth, to increase employment, to boost consumption and to eliminate poverty, but where does this all lead? Surely these are all means to an end? Today, some economists may define the end as happiness. This essay will explore the potential benefits and drawbacks of using happiness as an indicator of economic success, analyze how it can be measured and examine the current theories on whether happiness can cause economic growth, or vice versa. Whilst economic growth first and foremost implies an increase in GDP per capita, increasing happiness can be attributed to many different determinants such as health, education, stability and inequality. Therefore, the economicsof happiness is a multi layered and rather subjective area that divides economists when asked whether happiness can cause economic growth. To begin with, Stevenson and Wolfers (2008) propose that as countries grow richer, their citizens report higher levels of satisfaction. This is achieved not only through higher income per capita levels, but through the expected byproducts of an improving economy such as increases in levels of education, access to healthcare, opportunities for employment and equality. Non income determinants can be weighted against GDP levels to assess whether economic growth does impact happiness. For example, using the Corruptions Perceptions Index it was found that Sub Saharan Africa, one of the poorest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I ask that if you believe the same applies to any part of the draft submission that you highlight at least the one that will explain any significant point deduction. More, importantly, I would like to know exactly where I can use improvements, plus I prefer clarity as to where and/or why points were taken off in this class. Sometimes stylistic choice is mistaken for poor writing or incoherent or illogical as you suggested. I have not come across any professor that has said so much about my writing (negatively) and not offer any example. A link in this case is not exactly the solution for all that was implied. Anyhow, my main goal is to focus on where I can fix it myself, so please. show where, next time thanks. You said, The essayis not intended to be a personal reflection or a guide for writers but rather an advocacy for an idea. The journal and notes came across reflective, well, because they re preliminary tools, the scaffold to the final, right. I understand the draft and final are 3rd POV, backed by annotation, and my opinion as well, but not delivered as a personal narrative. The backstory was merely to show I am speaking from some experience. We cannot advocate what we don t understand, sure credible annotations are needed, but self publishing is a hands on approach, therefore, subjective, too. I m concerned about a few things, and then again, not so much knowing all these assignments leading to the actual final submission are meant to serve us as a form of outline the chaos, ironed out. As you must be aware brainstorming can happen at any stage. However, I do have a few comments on some changes you suggested (thanks) and those I have in mind. You said, concisely, , and I assure you my aim for the final, I don t worry too much at these stages, as I will rigorously edit, revise and chisel away from the draft, and then polish for the final. Furthermore, incorporate any feedback if given and are applicable from the workshop and your grading notes. I m not fond of MindEdge s outline approach, but I do get the gist, while still using what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Great Gatsby Symbolism Essay Maseratis. Porsches. Teslas. Many high end cars roam the streets on a daily basis. Cars are a major expense and luxury for adults presently. For many, these cars are symbolic of their success in achieving their American Dream having money. The American Dream during the roaring 20s is a major topic in the story The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The troubles Tom and Daisy Buchanan, an upper class couple, are experiencing lead the narrator, Nick Carraway, into many sticky situations. Soon after Nick moved into his modest home amongst some of the most lavish in New York, he was thrown into a love triangle between his neighbor and his dear cousin. Amidst the chaos of reuniting past lovers, Fitzgerald portrays his view that the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fitzgerald states, Luckily the clock took this moment to tilt dangerously at the pressure of his head, whereupon he turned and caught it with trembling fingers and set it back in place, (91.) The idea of the clock being defunct and falling off the mantel because of Gatsby s pressure leaning against it, reiterates that time between Daisy and Gatsby is broken. It does not matter they are together presently because they have lost too much time in the past five years. After knocking over the clock Gatsby apologizes saying, I m sorry about the clock, (92). This quote was not literally meant as an apology for knocking the clock over but instead was a plea to Daisy reminding her of their love five years prior. Gatsby realizes time is precious and is trying to work against the five years he has already lost. All of these references and the recurrence of the symbol of the clock refers to the time Gatsby and Daisy have missed out on. Fitzgerald, as the author, decided since Gatsby was a part of of the lower class, he missed out on the opportunity to achieve his American Dream of possessing Daisy. However, Tom, who was part of the upper class and came from old money , was the one who got to have her. Similarly, Fitzgerald uses rain as a hint toward the future for Gatsby and Daisy. The idea of rain was introduced upon Daisy s arrival at Nick s house in West Egg. Nick comments that, Under the dripping bare lilac trees a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Character Analysis Of Alice s Adventures In Wonderland As a child, I identified with a little blond girl named Alice from C. S. Lewis Alice s Adventures In Wonderland . This story works as an agent of socialization because Alice s adventures parallel the journey from childhood to adulthood as she comes into new situations in which adaptability is absolutely necessary for success. In the beginning of the story, she can barely maintain enough composure to keep herself from crying. By the end, she is self possessed and able to hold her own against the most perplexing Wonderland logic. Symbols are utilized throughout the story and most every character and situation seem to represent the challenges associated with growing up from childhood to adulthood. One of the primary reasons that I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Next, she slips in a pool when she is tiny which is made up of her tears that she shed when she was very large. After swimming to shore, she finds herself in the woods where she meets up with the White Rabbit. Mistaking her for his servant, the Rabbit sends her to his house. While there Alice drinks another potion, and becomes too large to leave the house by the door. She eventually finds a cake and eats it to make her small again. While in the woods, she meets Caterpillar who is sitting on a large mushroom. The caterpillar gives her good advice and a piece of mushroom which will make her smaller or bigger depending on which side she eats. Alice continues through the woods and finds a little house and shrinks herself down enough to get inside. Inside the house is the Duchess and the Cook who are fighting fiercely despite the fact that the Duchess is nursing a baby. • 46. St. Louis Art Museum Analysis The St. Louis Art museum has one of the largest permanent exhibitions of a Max Beckmann collection in the world. He was a German Expressionist and later became part of a newer style of German art which came to be known as New Objectivity . During the last three years of his life, he accepted a teaching position in the school of fine arts at Washington University in in 1947. Morton D. May, CEO of the May Company, between 1945 and the mid 1950s began acquiring German Expressionist works, a movement which was not well known in the United States at the time. May was surprised that Beckmann was working at the nearby University. During Beckmann s time in St. Louis they became friends. May, who was painting at the time hired him to be his tutor.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason I chose this artwork was because it wasn t so much focused on the catastrophe itself, but the people s effort for survival. On April 15, 1912, the Titanic sank in the North Atlantic Ocean. On its maiden voyage to New York, New York it collided with an iceberg. On board were 2,200 passengers, of those 1,507 died. Beckmann was said to be inspired by news accounts to produce this work which at the time was a current event. The date of this art work is 1912 1913, and the media is oil on canvas. When we think of the sinking of the Titanic, we think about an unsinkable ship going down. This painting is not about that. It is about the passengers and their fight for survival and what they must have gone through. The story in this painting is about how they tried to survive and come to terms with the possibility of death. It is painted on a huge canvas 8 foot by 11 foot in very dark and cool colors. The size and magnitude of this helps to create a most impressive scene. Off in the distance in the right hand corner you can the still brightly lit Titanic still upright and powered, drifting near the iceberg which sunk it. However, the ship and the iceberg are not the focus of what the artist is trying to convey. The struggle of the survivors and the lifeboats dominate the scene. In the center of the painting is a capsized lifeboat with some of the surviving passengers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
