the differences between the short story and the film, the first difference the reader is able to
spot is how the short story begins as opposed to how the film begins. In the short story, the
rancher is named Bert Barricune while in the film he is named Tom Doniphon. The film
opening scene begins with a long shot of a train arriving to the town of Shinbone, while the
Marshal, Link Appleyard, waits at the train stop for Hallie and Senator Ransom to step out of
the train. On the other hand, the short story starts right at the funeral scene, and it describes how
not more than a dozen people showed up to Bert s funeral. Both also differ in the way the

One of the fundamental theories of criminal behavior is the classical theory. This theory dates to
the 18th century with philosopher Cesare Beccaria, who stated that human behavior is driven by
