Little Shop Review
This evening I went to go see an anomalous play called Little Shop, which struck me as a
fantastic performance put together by the ESU theatre department. The plays setting took place
in an area called Skid Row , a large city somewhere in the U.S around the early 1960s. The
characters interacted either in the flower shop or outside of the flower shop. The only other scene
that takes place in a different setting is when Seymour attempts to kill Orin at his dentist shop. The
area enclosing around the flower shop hint to have a high unemployment right as many homeless
people appear on stage at a given time in which begging for food and money. As a member of the
audienceI could tell that the performances perspective was aimed to represent the... Show more

An issue that I tried to ignore through the play but soon became very trouble sum for me was the
continuous singing that would occur either by the girl group or Seymour. I believe Act I was
much stronger and more enjoyable overall than Act II. Act I opened up with the singing of the girl
group and initially the introduced the main characters of the performance by them interacting with
each other throughout the flower shop. Mr.Mushnik was the owner of the shop while Seymour
and Audrey were employees. Audrey has a black eye from her boyfriend which she continues on
to see which troubles Seymour because he has a crush on her. Mr.Mushnik says he needs to fire
them because they have been getting no busy. Seymour then discovers a plant from a sketchy guy
one day that he believes will draw in the attention of customers if displayed out of the window.
Seymour names the plant Audrey II after the name of his crush Audrey. As soon as he puts the plant
out in display the business starts to bloom. Unfortunately, the plant feeds on fresh human blood
which causes Seymour to sacrifice his own

Welcome To Nightvale Poem Analysis
A common theme in both Welcome to Nightvale and War of the Worlds is that original assumptions
can misleading. War of the Worlds utilises sentence structure to bring the concept that experiencing
death and horror will increase the appreciation of life to the forefront of the reader s mind.
Contrastingly the serious elements of death and horror are masked under the aural techniques of
Welcome to Nightvale through music. The audience expectations of Welcome to Nightvale are
inverted through the weather section in Welcome to Nightvale which is non diegetic sound because
it is a song or instrumental item that alludes to the darker elements of the episode. These elements
are contained within the lyrics or tone of the music to explain more about... Show more content on

Similarly, War of the Worlds uses scientific language, actual real places and media extracts to
develop the reader s connection to the real world and the novel. The two texts then hold greater
influence over the reader s emotions and understandings of the world around them which in turn
develop contrasting beliefs about the nature of horror and death. However Welcome to Nightvale s
narrative realism which influences an audience s reactions to horror and fear is lessened through
the use of Absurdism. Absurdist imagery such as in episode 2 GLOW CLOUD a lion, like the
kind you see on the sun baked plains of Africa or a pee stained enclosure at a local zoo, fell on top
of the White Sand Ice Cream Shop allows the reader to separate themselves from the horror within
an episode and instead connect with the philosophical intentions of Finke and Cranor, which is that
sometimes you go through things that seem huge at the time as a mysterious glowing cloud
devouring your entire community. While they re happening they feel like the only thing that
matters, and you can hardly imagine that there s the world out there that can have anything going
on. Both texts envelop narrative structure to draw parallelisms between reality and fiction which
deepen the reader s emotional connection but the

Cons Of Communism Research Paper
Capital as such is not evil, it is it s wrong us that is evil. Capital in some form or other will always
be needed (Winston Churchill). There are three main economic systems of governance.
Communism is under the control under one major party that is the only producer, no private
property and the goods are available and equal to all. One of the major cons of communism is that
it takes away the voice of the people which goes against equality which is very important.
Socialism has a government that produces and distributes goods based on their work unequally.
There is not a major party but is democratic. It is the median of capitalismand communism. One of
the major cons of socialism is that it can result in a lack of motivation. In capitalism,... Show more

When firms have such power, they change prices that are higher than can be justified based upon
the costs of production. Monopolies are not a problem because there is still money being acquired
and there is still competition. To produce high end products, it is easier to have one large firm
rather than several smaller ones. In other cases monopolies are essential for utilities like water and
electricity. It makes the most sense for a monopoly to control this because of the upfront expensive
cost. If they are not essential, the other companies would need to work harder to take down the
monopoly. More competition from the humans in animal farm rather than support might have
animal farm more success.
Competition and promotive equality are the main essentials for capitalism to be the most effective.
Competition makes businesses work harder to top each other. Companies can even think they have
a chance of taking down a monopoly. This system of government would have made animal farm
more of a success where all the animals were equal but the competition between animals and human
would be strong the the point where everyone was making

Contemporary Sociological Theory Reviewed Essay
1. Our understanding of contemporary capitalist culture and globalization has been greatly
influenced by neo Marxism. There have been many significant events all over the world such as
the Great Depression, The Second World War which have contributed to our understanding of
contemporary capitalist culture. There has been a false consciousness associated with this time
and date since capitalism continues to deliver the goods (Adams Sydie, 2002: 90). The beginning
of the end of capitalist conflict and the beginning of the beginning of socialism came with the U.S.
economic and military dominance after 1945 and also, on the other side of the coin, the Stalinist
model of socialist development failed to live up to it s own Marxist... Show more content on

They noted that the class structures of these societies were products of neo imperialism. The
domination is achieved through investment, the control of technological expertise, money
through the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. The term Monopoly Capitalism
covers all of those aspects. Wallerstein proposed an analytic framework. He felt he was
conducting world system analysis and not writing world system theory. He believed there were
three factors which were essential when establishing a world economy. First, he saw an
expansion of the geographical size of the world in question. Second, the development of
variegated methods of labor control for different products and different zones of the world
economy, and Third, the creation of relatively strong state machineries in what would become the
core states of this capitalist world economy (121). Wallerstein identifies the core, periphery and
the semi periphery. The core is the economic interest which control productive activities. The
periphery is the opposite of the core. The core controls all of the periphery s resources. The semi
periphery is the mid point between the core and the periphery. It serves as a gray zone with
independent capital yet is dependent on the core for much of it s infrastructure. Wallerstein
identifies three means for moving from periphery to a semi periphery. First he talks about seizing
the chance. This is when an

Social Autonomy In Canada In The 1900 s
Between 1900 and 1929, Canada became significantly more autonomous socially, politically, and
economically from Britain and the United States; however, there were still times where Canada s
autonomy had decreased due to Canada s dependence on Britain and the United States. Canada had
gained political autonomy from Britain when it was officially and internationally recognized as an
independent nation. Economically, Canadawas very reliant on British and American investment.
However, Canada s social autonomy had increased because of the first world war and entertainment,
like art and literature.
Politically, Canada s autonomy had increased greatly from 1900 to 1929. In the early 1900 s, the

As young men gathered and worked together at Valcartier for wartime training, they began to
develop a sense of Canadian identity. During the war, Canadian soldiers gained social autonomy
from Britain as Canada s expeditionary force maintained independent from British units. For the
first time, Canadian troops were chosen to lead an assault in the Battle of Vimy Ridge. They had
captured more land, guns, and prisoners than any other British troop. Following this triumph, a
Canadian, Arthur Currie, was selected to command Canada s troops in the Battle of Passchendaele.
The success of Canadian soldiers had given them sense of national pride and identity. In the soaring
1920 s, all types of entertainment and leisure were developed, the two major forms of entertainment
being film and radio. American radio companies diminished Canada s sense of social autonomy
because they were far too big for Canadian radio stations to compete with. As a result, many
Canadians tuned into American stations for entertainment and their news. Furthermore, the film
industry was also dominated by the Americans and Canadian made films could not compete with
productions from the big studios in the United States. However, Canadians developed a sense of
national identity in the form of art and literature. A Canadian art movement swept across Canada
and artists like the Group of Seven gained fame. In Canadian literature, authors

The Exploration Of The Sumerian Story
The Exploration of the Sumerian Story Although, the ancient stories of the Sumerians are widely
attributed to pure mythology, they went to great lengths to understand and create a way to record
their history, discoveries, and development. The most accepted view on what makes a culture
civilized, is a culture which has attained a degree of complexity, usually characterized by urban life
(Guisepi). Even though human exploration continues to discover previously unknown chapters of
the Sumerian story, the extensive amount of archeological evidence found and the time frame;
allows us to accredit them for the foundation of what is considered today, as the standards for
human civilization. Everything from their mythological creation,... Show more content on

Sumerians say, Nammu gave birth to An meaning Heaven, and Ki meaning Earth; and this union
produced the Anunna or Anunnaki, meaning those who descended from Heaven to Earth
(Bolman). This creation story has been retold in many forms, most commonly in the Greek
Mythology and more recently in Genesis, of the Bible.
The initial evidence showed that there had been human existence around 4500 BCE in southern
Mesopotamia, however this date is 500 years too early for the Sumerians. In fact, excavations
show that the first settlers of the Fertile Crescent were a person of unknown origins named the
Ubaid people. This name is given to them because of where their existence was first unearthed by
Henry Hall and later Leonard Woolley, at the excavated mound of al Ubaid. The settlement and
artifacts date back beyond 4500 BCE and the excavation proved the Ubaid people had been hunter
gathers who started to develop signs of agrarian society around 5000 BCE. (Mark, Sumerian
Civilization)
The Sumerians settled in Mesopotamia around 4000 BCE, between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers,
known today as southern Iraq. Notice the word settled in the previous sentence. Research shows,
that the Sumerian people have been traced further through excavations and improved DNA testing,
to the Murgab River Delta of Turkmenistan, dating back to the 7th millennium

King Henry V As The Mirror Of All Christian Kings
In this week s first lecture we opened by watching the prologue from a production of Henry V.
We discussed how this plays setting is that of some years after Henry IV. The present king Henry
is the matured prince Hal from the last story. Shakespeare referred to King Henry V as the
mirror of all Christian kings, as he is a reflection of what Christian kings should be. We then
talked about the essence of how this grand type of story could be effectively performed in a small
wooden theater. We talked about the bond between the author, actors, and audience that exists in
the theater. We also talked about the text of the prologue in which the chorus simply asks the
audience to use their imaginations by requesting that they suspend disbelief. In this the Chorus
essentially pleads with the audience to view the representations presented to them as what they
are intended more than what they are. For this to be effective the triple bond comes into play, the
writing, acting and audience participation are all required to properly appreciate the story as it
was intended. We will use two approaches to look at this play, the first is as a Christian hero. We
mentioned how Henry Vwas an embodiment of the symbols of the lion, fox, and pelican. The first
scene after the prologue includes two cardinals praising the king for his great qualities. We began
looking at some of the representations of Henry V as the fox symbol embodying the qualities of
justice, wisdom, and diplomacy. We watched

the water security of Australia. But, yet it used to flow on a seasonal basis through and would
have been used for leisure activities, such as swimming. If you looked at the River Torrens now you
could never tell that s what it was used for, and instead, you can see the unsightly weir restricting
water flow and the murky brown green water plagued with environmental issues.

Aeration pumps have successfully been used in many rivers and dams to lower algal blooms,
they work by reducing nutrient load in the water column and mixing algae deeper into the water
so that they are deprived of light, other methods such as algaecides are also used as these are
toxic to the algae or cyanobacteria, but using algaecides can come with great risks and may
cause more problems. As a part of a redevelopment plan, the city of Adelaide has been looking at
potential ways to remove the algae and rubbish in the river, the plan is to lower the weir so that
there is a flow of water. This means that nutrients will be moving through and not concentrated in
a singular spot, reducing the likeliness of algal blooms. At the moment the most that are being
done on carp is a ban on releasing them back in the waterway, however, many people are working
on an alternative. One of these alternatives is the release of a carp herpesvirus this acts as a
biological agent introduced to the waterway, wiping out large majorities of carp in one swift go.
However, there are issues with this once in the waterway it cannot be removed and carp may

Characteristics Of Becoming A Man
What does becoming a man mean? When would you say someone has become a man? Becoming
a man means, according to Merriam Webster, one possessing in high degree the qualities
considered distinctive of manhood; such as courage, strength, and vigor. To me becoming a man
doesn t happen at a certain age, but I think it happens at a time when you possess manhood traits.
In the Wake Tech Reader, Rodriguez talks about the independence children want when they grow
up in his essay Family Values. From what I ve learned growing up, becoming a manmeans having
responsibility, being self dependent, being financially stable to support yourself and possibly others,
and having the toughnessand grit to get through anything that gets in your way. If you asked me
what the most important qualities of becoming a man was, I d probably easily come back and
say that responsibility is. When you become a man you have a lot of things your responsible to
take care and do every so often. You have to be responsible enough to pay your bills and dues on
time. You can t just forget things anymore, so you got to be on top of your game and have a
schedule to get all your tasks done every day. As Winston Churchill once said, The price for
greatness is responsibility. To be a successful man you need to be responsible for your actions
and everything you do. You shouldn t have to be told to do something and that s a part of the
new responsibilities that you have. Responsibility is one of the main qualities of being a man
and without it some men may not be able to handle what happens in life. As I stated earlier,
Rodriguez says kids these days are independent from their parents when they leave home. What
immigrants know, what my parents certainly know, is that when you come to this country, you
risk losing your children. Rodriguez is saying that it s a known fact that some kids grow up and
come very independent with their family and in some cases don t come back and stay dependent
of themselves. He also states that America encourages you to Become your own man. Becoming
independent is probably the first step in becoming a man. You don t have your parents doing things
for you so you need to start relying on yourself for everything you need.

Jerusalem
Throughout comedy the emphasis is on human limitations rather than on human greatness (John

weakness and ineptitude in his play Jerusalem ?
Jez Butterworth s Jerusalem creates a comic vision focusing on the ambiguities, turmoil and
hypocrisies of the society presented on stage. Butterworth focuses on the characters degeneracies in
which the form of humour tends to be the exposure of their unruly behaviour and their reluctance to

Though the Indian Reservations were created so long ago, the quality of life has barely
changed. It is extremely poor. So poor, in fact, that they are likened to developing countries.
60% of children are born out of wedlock and Native Americans are the third highest group in the
country for teenage pregnancy. The suicide rate of Native American teenagers is three times that
of the rest of America. Alcoholism is a big problem of reservations. Native Americans are four
times more likely to die of alcoholism and 17 times more likely to die in an accident involving
alcohol. In addition to this, they are twice as likely to be involved in an arrest concerning alcohol.
One of the worst reservations is the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

So at the behest of Dr. Muhammad Yunus (Grameen Bank s founder) but completely independent
of Grameen Bank, a not for profit private company called Grameen Telecom was created.
Grameen Telecom, in turn, created a for profit company called GrameenPhone, found a foreign
partner, and put in a bid; GrameenPhone received one of the four licenses. GrameenPhone s total
capitalization was US$120,000,000, including around US$50 million from IFC/CDC, and the
Asian Development Bank (ADB). It also received US$60 million in equity from the four
GrameenPhone private partners. These were the Norwegian Telenor with a 51% share, Marubeni
of Japan with a 9.5% share, and the American Gonophone at 4.5%. GrameenPhone s fourth partner

Society Institute to set up Village Phone. GrameenPhone launched service in urban Dhaka on
March 26, 1997. It makes its profits by serving wealthier urban customers. But from the point of
view of the Grameen family and its strong anti poverty mission, the for profit, urban only
GrameenPhone exists for only one reason: To fund, with its profits, the extension of cell phones
into rural Bangladesh in order to provide entrepreneurial opportunity to Grameen Bank members

Film Analysis Of Elmer Rice s The Adding Machine
Elmer Rice s production, The Adding Machine, portrays the story of Mr. Zero, an accountant,
who has recently been fired from his position as a bookkeeper after nearly twenty five years of
consecutive work. His removal is marked by the introduction of an adding machine that has the
appropriate means to accomplish the necessary tasks without human interference. As a result of
being replaced, an angry Mr. Zero murders his boss, Mr. Smith, and thus begins the execution
process in which Mr. Zero is transported to a heaven like state where he meets Shrdlu and is then
reincarnated to begin a new life. This production is an authentic example of expressionism as

Thus, the women were clad in button down blouses tucked into pencil skirts and the men were
clothed in button up shirts and dress pants. This overall minimalistic aesthetic was evident in every
aspect of the performance and emphasized the idea of uniformity and conformity that was present
in American society during this time period. The cast was composed of fifteen actors, in which
some of the actors performed multiple characters such as Ayla Sullivan who portrayed Daisy and
Mrs. Seven or Brendan Lynch who took on the role of Shrdlu and Mr. Four. Each performer
delivered dialogue with an intense conviction and sharpness. This intensity was only magnified
when the ensemble delivered their lines together loudly and articulately. The choreography was also
synchronized and intricately placed to symbolize how a machine functions and reinforce this idea
of a mechanized, industrial society that has robbed each worker of their humanity, more explicitly
their individualistic personalities. Although there were several characters present, the absence of
individualism was further depicted through the sequenced names of Zero, One, Two Three, Four,
Five, Six in ascending order, the homogenous clothing, and the expressionless, serious countenance
each character possessed. Personally, I thought this play was difficult to follow as the storytelling

Frederick V Vs Ferdinand II
The Law is Always Right:
Frederick V vs Ferdinand II in the Thirty Years War
The Thirty Years War that spanned most of the Holy Roman Empire drawing in most of the
European superpowers of the time started off as a much smaller rebellion in the Kingdom of
Bohemia in the east of the Empire. The Bohemian revolt started with the Defenestration of Prague
where two Catholic regents and a secretary were thrown out of a window by a group of frustrated
Protestants. The regents had been placed in control of the city by the Holy Roman Emperor and
King of Bohemia, Matthias to rule until his successor, Ferdinand of Styria, was elected to replace
him. The Protestants were frustrated because their petitions to Matthias asking ... Show more

Frederick s justification for taking the Kingship is that he was trying to restore peace and protect
the Protestants in Bohemia. He claims that the Protestants were being victimized and that if he did
not assume control in Bohemia then the blame for any more lives lost in the conflict could be
placed on him. He explains why him taking control should not be seen as a power grab in the
following quote:
Therefore we have not sought a greater elevation, nor have we tried to gain the above mentioned
crown of Bohemia by force of through any other actions, a fact to which the estates that elected us
have publicly given witness (and can continue to do so). Furthermore, given the deplorable
situation, we also had no reason to do so, but would instead have much preferred to have seen the
return of peace.
By assuring the readers of his declaration that his motives are pure Frederick negates what would
be the first argument against him. If his taking of the Kingship were to be seen as a power grab
he would have no legitimacy and would struggle to find any support. There are two key points to
the above quote. The first is that he did not force his way into the position. While this may seem
obvious there was the possibility that he was elected under threat of violence. The other is that he
would have preferred a peaceful resolution over the current

Christian and Pagan Influence in Paradise Lost and...
Christian and Pagan Influence in Paradise Lost and Beowulf
In Paradise Lost, Milton is adept at drawing from both Christian and pagan sources and integrating
them in such a way that they reinforce one another (Abrams 1075). Of course it is a commonplace
for critics to believe that Milton valued his Christian sources more highly than the pagan ones
(Martindale 20); this is most likely due to the fact that he regarded the Christian sources as vessels
of the truth. His classical allusions, on the other hand, served as references for things fallen or
damned. Thus, as seen in the invocation to Book 7 ( Descend from heav n Urania, by that name
/ If rightly thou art called [7.1 2]) wherein Milton places his muse Urania, the Greek ... Show more

Thus, I agree with John D. Niles that if this poem can be attributed to a Christian author composing
not earlier than the first half of the tenth century...then there is little reason to read it as a survival
from the heathen age that came to be marred by monkish interpolations (137). Just as the Beowulf
poet s contemporary audience was thrown into a schizophrenic state by the pull of a pagan past
against the new teachings of Christianity, the poet himself was put to task to successfully blend
these religious ideologies in a complex yet effective plot that appealed to his audience precisely
because they were attempting to reconcile their own beliefs.
Although Beowulf most likely began as such a pagan epic, it eventually was expanded to include
Christian elements, whereas Paradise Lost is definitely a Christian tale that uses classical allusions
to remain connected to the epic tradition. In both tales, pagan or classical allusions, in contrast to
Christian allusions, are used in reference to that which is fallen or damned. Yet I must be careful
not to imply that Milton was using the Beowulf manuscript as a source because the manuscript was
not available in England until 1815; therefore, Milton could not have been aware of it during the

A Brief Note On Urban And Rural Terms
Urban and Rural Terms
Guatemala is a country that has had rapid growth economically in the world. Guatemala is
becoming the most popular country in the sector of industry and tourism of Central American, its
population has continued to increase. The growth of the population invariably leads to
urbanization, which refers to the development of urban areas and the migration of people from
rural to urban centers.
On the other hand, this has the reciprocal effect of the expansion of these centers much more
towards the outside, until they begin to invade the rural areas. (Country Review: Guatemala. 2003)
Guatemala has rural areas with a low population density and small settings. Guatemala has an
enormous potential for increasing its agricultural production that would lead to rural economic
growth, job creation, and poverty alleviation. Guatemala is acknowledged as a leader in
nontraditional agriculture that exports in Central America; such as, green beans, snow peas, black
beans, vegetables, and fruits, which have grown exponentially over the past ten years helping and
also benefitting smallholder farmers. (said.gov/guatemala/education)
Guatemala Urban areas are created through urbanization and categorized by urban cities such as,
towns, colonies, and zones. Urban people defined by their advanced opportunities for education,
facilities for transport, business, and social interaction overall and a better standard of living.

Essay about The Odyssey as a Hero Journey
All of us have similar experiences. We share in the life journey of growth, development, and
transformation. We live the same stories…the trappings might be different, the twists and
turns that create suspense might be different from culture to culture, the particular characters may
take different forms, but underneath it all, it s the same story, drawn from the same experiences
(Linda Seger, Creating
Myth, 1).
All people face trials and tribulations throughout their life. Thus, what defines one from one s
fellow human beings is not the trials themselves, but how one overcomes the challenges along the
journey, as well as the psychological and physical lessons one learns from the actions engaged.

For one month Odysseus refuses to leave his safe home in peaceful and bountiful Ithaca. The
reader is not told of the rationale behind his final decision to join the war; however, one must
assume that he believes he will be successful, returning home with many spoils of war, or that he
will receive honor for participating. His decision to leave Ithaca cannot be simply based on a
whim: he is a young king with many responsibilities, and while he rules his land with great strength,
he is inexperienced. Thus, the reasons for initiating his journey most probably include the
experience and maturity he will gain fighting the Trojans.
One can ascertain that the actual catalyst that enters into Odysseus life is the Trojan War itself. The
war represents a first step for
Odysseus; after all, while it is his trickery that eventually wins the war for the Achaens (it was his
idea to build the large wooden horse in which the Achaen army hid and from which they
successfully defeated
Troy, we are introduced to Odysseus as the great tactician (Book
VII, 232 301). Cunning is a trait he already possesses: it cannot be the object of his journey; it
merely starts him off. Yet he must initially survive the battle, and his survival proves his capacity to
undertake the journey, moving him to the next stage of the Hero
Journey.
The Second stage of the Hero Journey is the most visible. It consists of the trials that

Psychological Effects Of War In The Sniper
Zombie or Death: The Physical and Psychological Effects of War
War does not only destroy countries, they destroy the minds and bodies of soldiers as well. War
can be a terrifying experience that can affect everyone. Soldiers are leaving their families, with the
chance of not coming back, friends are turning against each other and innocent human beings are
getting killed. Soldiers came back from war in a dehumanized state because of what they have
witnessed and gone through. Liam O Flaherty, author of, The Sniper, chose to have an Irish sniper
up against another sniper with the same skills, they fought throughout the night in a rather
dangerous setting, causing them to be at risk of death or at the risk of losing their minds. In the short
story, The Sniper, the author reveals the devastating consequences of war through the physical and
psychological effects that the soldier suffers.
By illustrating the sniper s injuries, near death experiences, and the careless decisions he took,
the author reveals how dangerous war can be physically. Additionally, O Flaherty displays the
horrid physical harm of war by describing the sniper s injured arm in a disturbing way. The sniper
s ...forearm was dead, with ...blood...oozing through his sleeve... the ...bullet had lodged in the
bone, and his ...arm bent back easily. The blood that is oozing through his sleeve can cause loss of

Families In Romeo And Juliet And All The Light We Cannot See
A family is the single most influential factor in the life of an individual. Being in a family brings
with it support, relationships, connections, and love that is rarely found anywhere else in a
person s life. However, families are not all the same. Each individual family structure is unique
when compared to the next. When looked at from a general perspective there are two main
groups of which families fall into. There are families whose relationships are derived from and
are strengthened by social obligation. These families are connected biologically, emotionally, or
through a specific event and are forced to grow based on the ethics of proper familystructure and
societal opinions. While these families are present in books such as Romeo and Juliet and All the
Light we Cannot See, there are also families whose relationships derive from contingency.

The Importance Of Tom Brady s Letter To The Patriots
Last July, a few weeks before the New England Patriots started training camp, I got a call from
Donald Yee, the agent in Los Angeles who has represented Tom Brady since he entered the
N.F.L. in 2000. It had been four years since I first told Yee that I was interested in writing about
Brady, even though I typically cover politics. I grew up in the Boston suburbs, rooted for the
Patriots as a kid and even possessed vague memories of watching the team play at Fenway Park,
one of their homes before they settled into the nowhereland of Foxborough, Mass., in 1971. My
friend Josh and I once wrote a letter to the team s young quarterback, Jim Plunkett, inviting him to
dinner at Josh s house. (Plunkett never responded.) Their teams were mostly bad, their owner was
an embarrassment, their stadium a dump. Yet the Patriots always retained a lovable haplessness
about them, with their cute minuteman logos, their A.F.L. lineage and the identity crisis that comes
from being named after an entire region instead of a city or state. (The Seattle Seahawks are not the
Pacific Northwest Seahawks.)

coach, Bill Belichick, made Brady his starting quarterback in 2001. Since then, the Patriots have

Taoism is a religion as well as a philosophy that can be dated all the way back to around 500 B.C.

Peace And Violence By Galtung
As I tried to conceptualize the idea of violence and what it means, physical force such as: assault,
bullying, abuse, rape, murder, war, terrorism, genocide amongst many more came to mind.
However, what is considered violence depends on the social context and the type of violence
described, because as we have learned in class so far, Violenceis Relative. So what really is
violence? There is not an easy explanation of the term without taking into consideration that
violence can not only be physical but also psychological, emotional, and verbal. I believe violence
to be a form of expressed aggression either physical, psychological, emotional, and verbal
showcased by an individual. In the paper we will discuss how violence can be viewed as... Show

depending on intentional violence or not necessarily intentional (Galtung, 1969). In my
understanding, if an act of violence such as hurting a person intentionally it could mean that it is
unacceptable. However, if an act of violence were not necessarily intentional depending on the
social context, it would be acceptable. Direct violence, which serves to physically induced threats
such as killing, bullying, sexual assault, and emotional manipulation could serve as unacceptable
violence since its intentional. The Child Beater by Ai, and Death Warrant by district judge Issac
Parker, are good representations as to how they intentionally use physical violence against a victim
to cause harm. In Child Beater , we read about how the abusive mother uses cruel punishments such
as starvation and viciously beats the child to tears (Ai, 1971). This would be a representation of
direct violence since the mother causes physical threats against the child however, it could also be
structural violence since the child is prevented from an equal access to opportunities such as food
and living conditions. In our western society, our viewpoint of the violence inflicted would be
unacceptable since it the mother is conducting child abuse, something that is seen as illegal. From
personal experience, in many hispanic families for example, their form of cultural violence
includes using different forms of punishments to discipline their children such as spankings. While
forms of punishments such as the ones described in Child Beater are unacceptable, spankings are
a form of violence that is acceptable in many homes. In the reading Death Warrant , the author also
uses direct violence and structural as he verbally implies on the warrant sign that when the suspect
is dead no one will miss him, life will go on

however that 100% of the non affiliated college students disagreed with the statement aligning
them more with the Republican college students. These results support my hypothesis because the
results show there are more Democrats agreeing with the statement to have more gun control
because it will cause less violence. Also, the Pearson s R measurement (+0.312) showed there is
a weak positive trend between the two variables. In other words, if one is a democrat, one is more
likely to agree with the statement. I have confidence in these results, but would probably have

A Short Fiction Protagonist In Phil Klay s Redeployment
In short fiction is important to have a complex protagonist character. Characters exist largely for
the purpose of moving the story along from one plot point to the next. The reader experiences the
story through the eyes of the protagonist. A good development of the main character makes a good
story. Based on Edgar Allan Poes quantifications as what constitutes a short fictionstory protagonist,
Sergeant Price, in Phil Klay s work, Redeployment is an excellent example of a short fiction
protagonist because he embodies the protagonist traits of being distrustful of the government, is an
outsider, and is a reluctant hero.
The first reason Sergeant Price is a good example of short fiction protagonist is because he is
distrustful of the government or at least is distrustful of those who are giving orders for he and
the other troops to perform. The true evidence of Sergeant Price being distrustful of the
government is seen when he says We shoot dogs. Not by accident . . . I am a dog person, so I
thought about that a lot (Klay 506). He is killing those dogs because he is following orders, but
he does not see the purpose of killing them. Sergeant Price further demonstrates his distrust of
those ordering him when he explains But here s the thing. I m thinking a lot, and I mean a lot,
about these fucking dogs... And I m thinking about my dog. Vicar (Klay 507). He shows that he
does not agree with what he is doing. He just does it because there are orders, but he regrets it.

and competitive market make it possible for many businesses and companies to reach their
employees, other partner markets or businesses and even their customers while on the move. This
is the gift of wireless devices and applications technology.

It s like being trapped in a black hole and you ll get mad repeating it over and over again.
Seriously, a customer wouldn t be impressed by this system. It may be true that WDA gives us a lot
of conveniences than ever but it s like investing on your business graveyard if you leave your
communication unit unmanaged and unpolished. As Krotz (2008) suggested, technology, indeed,
can never replace human help for customers. Excellent customer service still depends on how
personnel treats and interacts with the customers, not with how efficient the WDA works.
WIRELESS USAGE EXPENSE. Constant calls by the employees not only to unwilling
customers but even to the offices just to check their mails or any agenda also contributes to
towering wireless bills from service providers. The problem with some employees is that they
have fooled themselves that wireless technology is also charge free. Actually, it is otherwise.
Companies spend a lot on these services and by lot it may mean hundreds of thousands to even
millions for communication alone. Aside from these business calls, there are still other calls which
are out of the business or under the table calls which these employees may make. The high cost
that the company pays may not lead to anything useful at all. In the case where an employee s call
credit has exceeded the amount of money his customer/s has brought

Comparing Alice In The Queen Of Hearts And The Red Queen
It s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then (Lewis Carroll). Alice
in the wonderland is a fantasy world Alice enters after falling in a hole for a long time. In her
Illusion world she meets different types of creatures talking, singing and dancing. In her imaginary
world, Alice notices potions and edible objects that say eat me or drink me which specifies a
significant theme that interprets the fantasy of Alice, which also connects with the different sized
animals she meets. In the two sequels Alice faces many ordinary objects along each chapter, and
each character approaches Alice in their own perspective having to deal with a random human
being in their fantasy world. The Queen of Heartsand the Red Queen... Show more content on

Although the Red Queen might be bossy and is arrogantly domineering she helps Alice on
mastering the chess game, as stated in the previous paragraph, but the Queen of hearts gives no
advice for Alice instead she is the heart of Alice s conflict. The Red Queen s speciality is that she
doesn t abuse the power she has into violent events, rather she engages on violence to try and
fold the situation, what s satisfying about her personality is that she uses her powers to
accumulate positivity. On the other hand, the Queen of Hearts is bloodthirsty and is always
prompt that beheading people that disrespect her solves every problem. She completely differs
from the Red Queen, by compiling her power and becomes strongly aggressive to dominate
everything. The Queen turned crimson with fury, and, after glaring at her for a moment like a
wild beast, began screaming Off with her head! Off with , Nonsense! said Alice (Wonderland 8.18
19), very loudly and decidedly, and the Queen was silent. This quote illustrates how the Queen acts
once she feels offended by taking the victims heads, but Alice responds back and shows the Queen
that she isn t scared of her power. Contrasting the two shows the two different versions of a Queen
having all the authority on her hand.
In conclusion, Lewis Carroll deliberately shows the two sides of a Queen in different books, but he

socl 105 midterm exam
Short Answer Question #1
What comes to mind when you here the term Third World ? Most of the people in the United
States find it hard to come to terms with the life style and struggles that are associated with this
term. The term, Third World was first introduced during the Cold War. During this time, the First
World referred to the United States and its allies, Second World consisted of the Soviet Union and
its allies and the Third Worldwas associated with the non allied and neutral countries. After the
second world war, these countries, who were mostly new to independence, were left trying to keep

GDP includes goods and services that do not include a countries economic wealth and, on the
other hand, excludes things that do. According to paecon.net, GDP excludes three main
categories. The first category that has been excluded by GDP is household production. Statistics
say that most people spend more than 17% more time doing domestic work than paid work. That
means that most of the people in these developing countries are too busy doing work around the
house. That includes activities such as house cleaning, cooking, and caring for their children.
Are we to say that because these people spend more time caring for their families they are to be
penalized for it with a decrease in GDP? Another problem associated with GDP is the amount of
voluntary work that may occur in a country. What was once done by a paid professional and
accounted for in GDP, could have now been done voluntarily. Therefore, societies with
widespread voluntary work may will have a lower GDP but have a good economic well being.
Another big form of income that is overlooked by GDP is the informal economy within these
developing countries. Informal economy includes any direct sale activities such as odd jobs,
street trading, and most of all the black market. This selling of goods and services often goes
untaxed and unrecorded therefore is not included into a countries GDP. Overall GDP overlooks
many forms of income, which can result in a

The Importance Of Cultural Diversity In Schools
When it comes to cultural diversity in schools, a lot of issues have the potential to come up.
Currently, I feel that I am somewhat competent of the cultural diversity that exists in the world,
but I have a lot more to learn. Some important things to consider when working with diverse
populations are the morals and values that specific cultures hold and how they differ from what I
know and live by. Becoming more aware of other cultures will help me be able to work with
everyone no matter what culturethey identify with. One thing that I think students will benefit
from in schools is having a group to identify with whether is may be a culturally diverse group of
people from many different places or a group solely for a specific culture. With these groups, we
can help educate all students in the school to help them become more aware of their peers and help
create a healthier and more accepting environment.
Section 2: Personal Application of Theory: Learning about all of the different theories that
contribute to the field of counseling has not only taught me a lot about the profession, but it has
taught me a lot about myself personally. I strongly feel that I have learned so much about myself
that I never knew before through learning about theories and potential interventions to use with my
future students. Reflecting back upon the content, I have found that the theories that I identify with
the most are ones that I think would benefit me the most or that I know have

Videogames Don t Have a Negative Effect on Kids
There are many things that today s society worries about; television, role models, etc. The biggest
ones are those that affect the children. One that many people overlook is video games, a national
past time in almost every home. It is clear that they can cause changes in children, but are the
changes good or bad? Do video games have a negative effect on kids?
Personally, I felt there was nothing wrong with video games. I play them for fourteen hours or
more a week, and I ve been doing fine in life. I made it to a fine college, I learned unique words
when I was young, and I even won prizes in some video game contests. I still have that Star Fox t

In Electronic Gaming Monthly, there was an article that explained the top five negative aspects of
videogames. Isolation: people can become obsessed over a videogame. Shawn Woolley, a young
fan of the popular Everquest, committed due to bankruptcy. The game makes you pay as you
play, and he played too much. Addiction: people have been known to forego work, relationships,
and even food for the sake of their online play. Physical problems: many of today s games have
vibrating controllers to give a more interactive feeling. A 15 year old kid developed hand arm
vibration syndrome, burning sensations and inflammation in the hands and arms, due to playing on
his Playstation too much. Violence: Senator Joseph Lieberman ran a campaign against Mortal
Kombat due to its spine ripping gore. Even Captain Kangaroo was brought in, explaining that
videogames teach lessons to kids that would cause a parent to faint. Violence numbing: when a
child plays a violent videogame, the terrible news in today s world barely faze them since they
have seen worse in the videogame, even though it wasn t real.
I was shocked at reading this, and though that this clearly proved that videogames should be taken
off the market, but another article changed my mind.
James Paul Gee, a professor of education at the University of Wisconsin Madison, dove into the
world of videogames to see

Comcast Corporation Case Study
Standing proud as Philadelphia s tallest skyscraper lies the headquarters of the leading
telecommunication conglomerate in the U.S Comcast Corporation. Comcast, with about 159,000
employees, developed around $80.4 billion in revenue in 2016, which was a 7.9% increase from
the revenue consolidated in the previous year. ComcastCorporation s success can be traced down to
the extensive services the company provides. These services, including cable television, internet
services, voice over internet protocol, and content production, fall within two overlaying businesses
of Comcast Corporation: NBCUniversal and Comcast Cable. NBCUniversal operates news,
entertainment and sports cable networks, the NBC and Telemundo broadcast networks,... Show

Services such as Netflix and Hulu, along with other platforms that employ digital distribution
create a prominent challenge for Comcast. To most consumers, online streaming is seen as a better
option compared to cable due to its convenience, lack of commercials, lower prices, and the
availability to binge watch (See Exhibit 1 for the leading video subscriptions in the U.S in 2016).
This increasingly growing platform presents a challenge for Comcast and how the company should
respond to the changing environment.
Strategic Solutions
In response to Google s initiative for fiber based high speed internet service, Comcast should focus
on adapting these fiber optic capacities as a means of improving their own internet service. Comcast
holds a competitive advantage in infrastructure, and by updating their broadband network with
those driving Google Fiber, Comcast would be utilizing this advantage. An upgrade of increased
speeds and reliability will secure Comcast s dominant position in the internet provider market.
Pros:
This will reduce the risk of customers switching to a different service provider for more advanced
offerings.
By providing top notch streaming capabilities, Comcast will be able to remain a frontrunner of new
developments.
With the expansion of their network, Comcast will ensure that competitors will not

Slaves In History Research Paper
There were more than 80,000 slaves in ancient greece? There were so many jobs that slaves did
that s why there were so many of them. Without slaves our world would have been a lot different
now than it was. Slaves worked as factory workers, farm workers, and more. They impacted their
lives by a lot, and is a big part of our history.
What Slaves Did
Slaves were servants, factory workers, shopkeepers, mine workers, and many other things that
they would want them to do. They had slaves do their work because they didn t want to do it
themselves. They had to work for their owners, and they didn t have a choice unless they wanted to
get wiped and other stuff. Or they were also starved to death. Some slaves were captured by
kidnappers or as prisoners of war and sold them as slaves, so they didn t have to do the work, It was
hard to find out who kidnapped them because they were really sneaky at it, and a lot of people did it.
How they became slaves
All slaves were born free, but they were captured by kidnappers. That s how they became slaves, or
their parents could have sold them to slavery. If there parents didn t have money they would sell
them and it was normal back then. That s how they became slaves. Some chose to work for other

Student Involvement In College Sports
Sports are a key factor to college life. Even though everyone may not play them, it plays a major
impact on every individual that attends that college. Sports teams help build school pride, generate
revenue, and give rising athletes opportunities to become professionals. As a result, colleges should
strongly support their sports teams.
First and foremost, sports teams are essential in establishing a sense of school pride. A strong stance
of school pride allows the student body as a whole to become coherent. To put simply, it creates a
way for students to become better involved with their college. Not only does it generate involvement
within the college, but also with the community because of family or friends that may also attend
the events.

Essay about Addie Bundren in William Faulkner’s As I Lay...
Addie Bundren in William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying
Woman is the source and sustainer of virtue and also a prime
source of evil. She can be either; because she is, as man is not,
always a little beyond good and evil. With her powerful natural
drive and her instinct for the concrete and personal, she does not
need to agonize over her decisions. There is no code for her to
master, no initiation for her to undergo. For this reason she has
access to a wisdom which is veiled from man; and man s codes,
good or bad, are always, in their formal abstraction, a little absurd
in her eyes . . . 1
In William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying, all roads lead to Addie. As Diane
York Blaine aptly observes: The title... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Addie
narrates a significantly shorter portion of the novel than the rest of the
Bundren family (only one chapter, in fact), and her death occurs well before
the story s conclusion. For these reasons, earlier criticism evaluated Addie not
as an individual, but in relation to the other members of the Bundren clan,
specifically, the men. Overall, Addie s importance to the novel was grievously
underestimated by early critics such as Edwin Muir, who observes:
We are told far more about Addie Bundren s corpse . . . than
about herself . . . The most interesting character is the corpse, not
in its former incarnation as a human being with feelings, affections,
and a soul, but simply in its dead, or rather gruesomely
alive state . . .3
Just as Anse is unable to discern the difference between words and acts, Muir
is unable to recognize Addie in anything but a symbol, defined by the physical
presence of her dead body.
Other critics were more overt in their patriarchal assessments. James
Burnham sternly commented on the theme of un romanticized sex in the
novel. Dewey Dell and Addie are seen as guilty of this charge; their rejection
of maternity as a consequence of sex deems them unnatural, contributing to
the theme of moral nihilism 4 that pervades the novel. Thus, early criticism,
still largely dominated by conservatively patriarchal

The Nile River was a great contributing factor in the development of early Egypt. It is the country s
longest running river, and runs right through Egypt.
The location of the river added convenience, which aided agricultural abilities helping to boost
civilization. Farmers used the water for irrigation since most of Egypt is dry. During the long
rainy season, the Nile would flood. When the flood occurred it would drop deposits of silt, a rich
soil ideal for growing crops. The farmers would then spend long, laborious hours cultivating and

Two significant environmental or physical geographic factors that contributed to the development
or expansion of the United States were the California gold rush and the dust bowl.
People came to California with gold fever from all across the country and even Mexico. Word
spread quickly and in just a matter of months, word had spread to Hawaii, Oregon, and even
Central America. Before the end of the year 1848, news of the riches had gold seekers coming
from the eastern states, as well as Great Britain.
Before the discovery of gold in the Coloma Valley was a barely populated area. However, after the
discovery, Coloma became a thriving community. It was named the county seat and served a
population of several thousand. ( History of the, 2004)
Due largely in part to the gold rush, in 1850, a law was passed by the United States Congress
making California the first state in the far west.
The rush can also be thanked for the popularity of the San Francisco port. San Francisco was

What Is James Cash Penney s New Pricing Strategy
James Cash Penney founder of the J.C. Penny was founded in 1902, under the name The Golden

Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale ( Nbas )
After the birth of an infant, physical conditions are evaluated using the Apgar or Neonatal
Behavioral Assessment Scale (NBAS). The commonly used method is the Apgar, which
measures five vital signs, including the infants breathing, heartbeat, reflexes, skin, and muscle
tone. Each area is scored at 1 and 5 minutes and can have a score of 0 2 in each area. The
maximum points is 10, which means a baby is in the best possible condition. The NBAS measures
the same vitals as the Apgar and also evaluates vision, hearing, alertness, and irritability. The baby
s birth weight is another important indicator of health. In general, small babies and very large
babies are at greater risk or problems. Infants weight is monitored daily in the nursery to assess
growth, fluid, and nutritional needs. It is common for babies to lose 5 7%. Of their birth weight
and usually gain it back by two weeks of age. The infant s measurements are also taken. These
include the head circumference, abdominal circumference, and length. During the physical exam of
the newborn each body system is carefully examined for signs of health and normal function. Each
of these exams are important ways to learn about an infant s well being at birth.
Infants are born with a number if reflexes that help them to adjust outside of the womb and serve
as the foundation for future behavior. Reflexes are an indication of whether or not an infant s
nervous system is functional. Some of these reflexes last for a few weeks

  • 2. Little Shop Review This evening I went to go see an anomalous play called Little Shop, which struck me as a fantastic performance put together by the ESU theatre department. The plays setting took place in an area called Skid Row , a large city somewhere in the U.S around the early 1960s. The characters interacted either in the flower shop or outside of the flower shop. The only other scene that takes place in a different setting is when Seymour attempts to kill Orin at his dentist shop. The area enclosing around the flower shop hint to have a high unemployment right as many homeless people appear on stage at a given time in which begging for food and money. As a member of the audienceI could tell that the performances perspective was aimed to represent the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An issue that I tried to ignore through the play but soon became very trouble sum for me was the continuous singing that would occur either by the girl group or Seymour. I believe Act I was much stronger and more enjoyable overall than Act II. Act I opened up with the singing of the girl group and initially the introduced the main characters of the performance by them interacting with each other throughout the flower shop. Mr.Mushnik was the owner of the shop while Seymour and Audrey were employees. Audrey has a black eye from her boyfriend which she continues on to see which troubles Seymour because he has a crush on her. Mr.Mushnik says he needs to fire them because they have been getting no busy. Seymour then discovers a plant from a sketchy guy one day that he believes will draw in the attention of customers if displayed out of the window. Seymour names the plant Audrey II after the name of his crush Audrey. As soon as he puts the plant out in display the business starts to bloom. Unfortunately, the plant feeds on fresh human blood which causes Seymour to sacrifice his own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Welcome To Nightvale Poem Analysis A common theme in both Welcome to Nightvale and War of the Worlds is that original assumptions can misleading. War of the Worlds utilises sentence structure to bring the concept that experiencing death and horror will increase the appreciation of life to the forefront of the reader s mind. Contrastingly the serious elements of death and horror are masked under the aural techniques of Welcome to Nightvale through music. The audience expectations of Welcome to Nightvale are inverted through the weather section in Welcome to Nightvale which is non diegetic sound because it is a song or instrumental item that alludes to the darker elements of the episode. These elements are contained within the lyrics or tone of the music to explain more about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similarly, War of the Worlds uses scientific language, actual real places and media extracts to develop the reader s connection to the real world and the novel. The two texts then hold greater influence over the reader s emotions and understandings of the world around them which in turn develop contrasting beliefs about the nature of horror and death. However Welcome to Nightvale s narrative realism which influences an audience s reactions to horror and fear is lessened through the use of Absurdism. Absurdist imagery such as in episode 2 GLOW CLOUD a lion, like the kind you see on the sun baked plains of Africa or a pee stained enclosure at a local zoo, fell on top of the White Sand Ice Cream Shop allows the reader to separate themselves from the horror within an episode and instead connect with the philosophical intentions of Finke and Cranor, which is that sometimes you go through things that seem huge at the time as a mysterious glowing cloud devouring your entire community. While they re happening they feel like the only thing that matters, and you can hardly imagine that there s the world out there that can have anything going on. Both texts envelop narrative structure to draw parallelisms between reality and fiction which deepen the reader s emotional connection but the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are three main economic systems of governance. Communism is under the control under one major party that is the only producer, no private property and the goods are available and equal to all. One of the major cons of communism is that it takes away the voice of the people which goes against equality which is very important. Socialism has a government that produces and distributes goods based on their work unequally. There is not a major party but is democratic. It is the median of capitalismand communism. One of the major cons of socialism is that it can result in a lack of motivation. In capitalism,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When firms have such power, they change prices that are higher than can be justified based upon the costs of production. Monopolies are not a problem because there is still money being acquired and there is still competition. To produce high end products, it is easier to have one large firm rather than several smaller ones. In other cases monopolies are essential for utilities like water and electricity. It makes the most sense for a monopoly to control this because of the upfront expensive cost. If they are not essential, the other companies would need to work harder to take down the monopoly. More competition from the humans in animal farm rather than support might have animal farm more success. Competition and promotive equality are the main essentials for capitalism to be the most effective. Competition makes businesses work harder to top each other. Companies can even think they have a chance of taking down a monopoly. There have been many significant events all over the world such as the Great Depression, The Second World War which have contributed to our understanding of contemporary capitalist culture. There has been a false consciousness associated with this time and date since capitalism continues to deliver the goods (Adams Sydie, 2002: 90). The beginning of the end of capitalist conflict and the beginning of the beginning of socialism came with the U.S. economic and military dominance after 1945 and also, on the other side of the coin, the Stalinist model of socialist development failed to live up to it s own Marxist... The domination is achieved through investment, the control of technological expertise, money through the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. The term Monopoly Capitalism covers all of those aspects. Wallerstein proposed an analytic framework. He felt he was conducting world system analysis and not writing world system theory. He believed there were three factors which were essential when establishing a world economy. First, he saw an expansion of the geographical size of the world in question. Second, the development of variegated methods of labor control for different products and different zones of the world economy, and Third, the creation of relatively strong state machineries in what would become the core states of this capitalist world economy (121). Wallerstein identifies the core, periphery and the semi periphery. The core is the economic interest which control productive activities. The periphery is the opposite of the core. The core controls all of the periphery s resources. The semi periphery is the mid point between the core and the periphery. It serves as a gray zone with independent capital yet is dependent on the core for much of it s infrastructure. Wallerstein identifies three means for moving from periphery to a semi periphery. First he talks about seizing the chance. This is when an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Following this triumph, a Canadian, Arthur Currie, was selected to command Canada s troops in the Battle of Passchendaele. The success of Canadian soldiers had given them sense of national pride and identity. In the soaring 1920 s, all types of entertainment and leisure were developed, the two major forms of entertainment being film and radio. American radio companies diminished Canada s sense of social autonomy because they were far too big for Canadian radio stations to compete with. As a result, many Canadians tuned into American stations for entertainment and their news. Furthermore, the film industry was also dominated by the Americans and Canadian made films could not compete with productions from the big studios in the United States. This creation story has been retold in many forms, most commonly in the Greek Mythology and more recently in Genesis, of the Bible. The initial evidence showed that there had been human existence around 4500 BCE in southern Mesopotamia, however this date is 500 years too early for the Sumerians. In fact, excavations show that the first settlers of the Fertile Crescent were a person of unknown origins named the Ubaid people. This name is given to them because of where their existence was first unearthed by Henry Hall and later Leonard Woolley, at the excavated mound of al Ubaid. The settlement and artifacts date back beyond 4500 BCE and the excavation proved the Ubaid people had been hunter gathers who started to develop signs of agrarian society around 5000 BCE. (Mark, Sumerian Civilization) The Sumerians settled in Mesopotamia around 4000 BCE, between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, known today as southern Iraq. Notice the word settled in the previous sentence. • 13. King Henry V As The Mirror Of All Christian Kings In this week s first lecture we opened by watching the prologue from a production of Henry V. We discussed how this plays setting is that of some years after Henry IV. The present king Henry is the matured prince Hal from the last story. Shakespeare referred to King Henry V as the mirror of all Christian kings, as he is a reflection of what Christian kings should be. We then talked about the essence of how this grand type of story could be effectively performed in a small wooden theater. We talked about the bond between the author, actors, and audience that exists in the theater. We also talked about the text of the prologue in which the chorus simply asks the audience to use their imaginations by requesting that they suspend disbelief. In this the Chorus essentially pleads with the audience to view the representations presented to them as what they are intended more than what they are. For this to be effective the triple bond comes into play, the writing, acting and audience participation are all required to properly appreciate the story as it was intended. We will use two approaches to look at this play, the first is as a Christian hero. We mentioned how Henry Vwas an embodiment of the symbols of the lion, fox, and pelican. The first scene after the prologue includes two cardinals praising the king for his great qualities. We began looking at some of the representations of Henry V as the fox symbol embodying the qualities of justice, wisdom, and diplomacy. We watched ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The River Torrens makes up a 85km stretch of the Murray Darling Basin and is vital to the water security of Australia. But, yet it used to flow on a seasonal basis through and would have been used for leisure activities, such as swimming. If you looked at the River Torrens now you could never tell that s what it was used for, and instead, you can see the unsightly weir restricting water flow and the murky brown green water plagued with environmental issues. Two of these such issues are algal blooms, caused by various cyanobacteria, and the introduction of carp into ecosystems. The effects of carp ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aeration pumps have successfully been used in many rivers and dams to lower algal blooms, they work by reducing nutrient load in the water column and mixing algae deeper into the water so that they are deprived of light, other methods such as algaecides are also used as these are toxic to the algae or cyanobacteria, but using algaecides can come with great risks and may cause more problems. As a part of a redevelopment plan, the city of Adelaide has been looking at potential ways to remove the algae and rubbish in the river, the plan is to lower the weir so that there is a flow of water. This means that nutrients will be moving through and not concentrated in a singular spot, reducing the likeliness of algal blooms. At the moment the most that are being done on carp is a ban on releasing them back in the waterway, however, many people are working on an alternative. One of these alternatives is the release of a carp herpesvirus this acts as a biological agent introduced to the waterway, wiping out large majorities of carp in one swift go. However, there are issues with this once in the waterway it cannot be removed and carp may develop resistance and there would have to be a massive clean up undertaken to remove all the dead ... • 18. Characteristics Of Becoming A Man What does becoming a man mean? When would you say someone has become a man? Becoming a man means, according to Merriam Webster, one possessing in high degree the qualities considered distinctive of manhood; such as courage, strength, and vigor. To me becoming a man doesn t happen at a certain age, but I think it happens at a time when you possess manhood traits. In the Wake Tech Reader, Rodriguez talks about the independence children want when they grow up in his essay Family Values. From what I ve learned growing up, becoming a manmeans having responsibility, being self dependent, being financially stable to support yourself and possibly others, and having the toughnessand grit to get through anything that gets in your way. If you asked me what the most important qualities of becoming a man was, I d probably easily come back and say that responsibility is. When you become a man you have a lot of things your responsible to take care and do every so often. You have to be responsible enough to pay your bills and dues on time. You can t just forget things anymore, so you got to be on top of your game and have a schedule to get all your tasks done every day. As Winston Churchill once said, The price for greatness is responsibility. To be a successful man you need to be responsible for your actions and everything you do. You shouldn t have to be told to do something and that s a part of the new responsibilities that you have. Responsibility is one of the main qualities of being a man and without it some men may not be able to handle what happens in life. As I stated earlier, Rodriguez says kids these days are independent from their parents when they leave home. What immigrants know, what my parents certainly know, is that when you come to this country, you risk losing your children. Rodriguez is saying that it s a known fact that some kids grow up and come very independent with their family and in some cases don t come back and stay dependent of themselves. He also states that America encourages you to Become your own man. Becoming independent is probably the first step in becoming a man. You don t have your parents doing things for you so you need to start relying on yourself for everything you need. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Frederick V Vs Ferdinand II The Law is Always Right: Frederick V vs Ferdinand II in the Thirty Years War The Thirty Years War that spanned most of the Holy Roman Empire drawing in most of the European superpowers of the time started off as a much smaller rebellion in the Kingdom of Bohemia in the east of the Empire. The Bohemian revolt started with the Defenestration of Prague where two Catholic regents and a secretary were thrown out of a window by a group of frustrated Protestants. Frederick s justification for taking the Kingship is that he was trying to restore peace and protect the Protestants in Bohemia. He claims that the Protestants were being victimized and that if he did not assume control in Bohemia then the blame for any more lives lost in the conflict could be placed on him. He explains why him taking control should not be seen as a power grab in the following quote: Therefore we have not sought a greater elevation, nor have we tried to gain the above mentioned crown of Bohemia by force of through any other actions, a fact to which the estates that elected us have publicly given witness (and can continue to do so). Furthermore, given the deplorable situation, we also had no reason to do so, but would instead have much preferred to have seen the return of peace. By assuring the readers of his declaration that his motives are pure Frederick negates what would be the first argument against him. If his taking of the Kingship were to be seen as a power grab he would have no legitimacy and would struggle to find any support. There are two key points to the above quote. Christian and Pagan Influence in Paradise Lost and Beowulf In Paradise Lost, Milton is adept at drawing from both Christian and pagan sources and integrating them in such a way that they reinforce one another (Abrams 1075). Of course it is a commonplace for critics to believe that Milton valued his Christian sources more highly than the pagan ones (Martindale 20); this is most likely due to the fact that he regarded the Christian sources as vessels of the truth. His classical allusions, on the other hand, served as references for things fallen or damned. Niles that if this poem can be attributed to a Christian author composing not earlier than the first half of the tenth century...then there is little reason to read it as a survival from the heathen age that came to be marred by monkish interpolations (137). Just as the Beowulf poet s contemporary audience was thrown into a schizophrenic state by the pull of a pagan past against the new teachings of Christianity, the poet himself was put to task to successfully blend these religious ideologies in a complex yet effective plot that appealed to his audience precisely because they were attempting to reconcile their own beliefs. Although Beowulf most likely began as such a pagan epic, it eventually was expanded to include Christian elements, whereas Paradise Lost is definitely a Christian tale that uses classical allusions to remain connected to the epic tradition. In both tales, pagan or classical allusions, in contrast to Christian allusions, are used in reference to that which is fallen or damned. • 34. Peace And Violence By Galtung As I tried to conceptualize the idea of violence and what it means, physical force such as: assault, bullying, abuse, rape, murder, war, terrorism, genocide amongst many more came to mind. However, what is considered violence depends on the social context and the type of violence described, because as we have learned in class so far, Violenceis Relative. So what really is violence? There is not an easy explanation of the term without taking into consideration that violence can not only be physical but also psychological, emotional, and verbal. I believe violence to be a form of expressed aggression either physical, psychological, emotional, and verbal showcased by an individual. In the paper we will discuss how violence can be viewed as... In my understanding, if an act of violence such as hurting a person intentionally it could mean that it is unacceptable. However, if an act of violence were not necessarily intentional depending on the social context, it would be acceptable. Direct violence, which serves to physically induced threats such as killing, bullying, sexual assault, and emotional manipulation could serve as unacceptable violence since its intentional. The Child Beater by Ai, and Death Warrant by district judge Issac Parker, are good representations as to how they intentionally use physical violence against a victim to cause harm. In Child Beater , we read about how the abusive mother uses cruel punishments such as starvation and viciously beats the child to tears (Ai, 1971). This would be a representation of direct violence since the mother causes physical threats against the child however, it could also be structural violence since the child is prevented from an equal access to opportunities such as food and living conditions. In our western society, our viewpoint of the violence inflicted would be unacceptable since it the mother is conducting child abuse, something that is seen as illegal. From personal experience, in many hispanic families for example, their form of cultural violence includes using different forms of punishments to discipline their children such as spankings. While forms of punishments such as the ones described in Child Beater are unacceptable, spankings are a form of violence that is acceptable in many homes. In the reading Death Warrant , the author also uses direct violence and structural as he verbally implies on the warrant sign that when the suspect is dead no one will miss him, life will go on ... Further, a majority of Democrat college students agreed with the statement (75%) with the other 25% disagreeing. An interesting note however that 100% of the non affiliated college students disagreed with the statement aligning them more with the Republican college students. These results support my hypothesis because the results show there are more Democrats agreeing with the statement to have more gun control because it will cause less violence. Also, the Pearson s R measurement (+0.312) showed there is a weak positive trend between the two variables. In other words, if one is a democrat, one is more likely to agree with the statement. Characters exist largely for the purpose of moving the story along from one plot point to the next. The reader experiences the story through the eyes of the protagonist. A good development of the main character makes a good story. Based on Edgar Allan Poes quantifications as what constitutes a short fictionstory protagonist, Sergeant Price, in Phil Klay s work, Redeployment is an excellent example of a short fiction protagonist because he embodies the protagonist traits of being distrustful of the government, is an outsider, and is a reluctant hero. The first reason Sergeant Price is a good example of short fiction protagonist is because he is distrustful of the government or at least is distrustful of those who are giving orders for he and the other troops to perform. The true evidence of Sergeant Price being distrustful of the government is seen when he says We shoot dogs. Not by accident . . . I am a dog person, so I thought about that a lot (Klay 506). He is killing those dogs because he is following orders, but he does not see the purpose of killing them. Sergeant Price further demonstrates his distrust of those ordering him when he explains But here s the thing. I m thinking a lot, and I mean a lot, about these fucking dogs... Each area is scored at 1 and 5 minutes and can have a score of 0 2 in each area. The maximum points is 10, which means a baby is in the best possible condition. The NBAS measures the same vitals as the Apgar and also evaluates vision, hearing, alertness, and irritability. The baby s birth weight is another important indicator of health. In general, small babies and very large babies are at greater risk or problems. Infants weight is monitored daily in the nursery to assess growth, fluid, and nutritional needs. It is common for babies to lose 5 7%. Of their birth weight and usually gain it back by two weeks of age. The infant s measurements are also taken.
