Summary Of The Scarlet Letter
The Scarlet Letter Reading Journal
Chapters 2 3
Hester Prynne is first introduced by an angry crowd of people calling for her death. It seems as
Hester has done something terribly wrong, something unforgivable. It gave me mixed thoughts,
because I had no idea what she had done that made these people so furious, she could be innocent
for all I, or any of the characters, know. Hester s babe was compared/contrasted to the Scarlet Letter
on herself, showing that her babe, not the Letter, was the true consequence to her sinful actions,
although the Letter was the more shameful/public symbol. The crowd find anger in how she
apparently shows of the Scarlet Letter as if it s something she is proud of, and not something she
is ashamed of, as it was designed to be.
Chapters 4 5
When Hester and her husband reunite, he tries to get Hester to reveal the name of the man she
sinned with. She will not reveal his name, so Chillingworth tries to confuse and trick her into
revealing his name. This does not work, however, and the name of her fellow sinner is left
unknown to Chillingworth. Chillingworth also mentions that he is foolish to believe that he could
retain such a beautiful wife while he was gone. He also says he wasn t the right husband for her,
and that he should of returned sooner.
Chapters 6 7
The name of Hester s daughter, Pearl, is a symbol that she gave everything she had for her baby,
her only treasure, or pearl. Pearl is a troublemaker, inheriting all the defiance

The Privacy Of Online Consumers And Search Engines
How come google knows where a computer user has been? Social medias and search engines
have access to all the info that is deleted, saved or that people have in their browser and can
access it at any time.Search engines like Google have all the data that people have used in their
lifetime from every person in the world and all the data users think they have deleted that data is
actually being saved in hard drives on the GoogleHeadquarters. The thesis statement is that search
engines are invading the privacyof online consumers and search engines should not invade
consumer privacy because these Search engine companies have no business in finding what the user
is doing on the internet .Social media and Search engines are invading the privacy of internet
users all around the world and keep track of all user info on the computers and this should not be
allowed in any way..According to Caitlin Dewey , reporter in Washington D.C from the
washington post it states Google has, since 2009,published a transparency tool called Dashboard
which lets users see exactly what kind of data the internet giant has on them and from which
services. This quote shows that since 2009 Google decided to create the tool Dashboard which
makes it easier for google to see what other computer consumers are using.Another quote relating to
this issue also from(Dewey,2014) it states The issue of data collection has provoked renewed
anxiety of late, perhaps spurred by recent investigations into personal

Importance Of Coral Reefs
Coral reefs are a very important to our ecosystem and our earth. The ocean contains many different
types of coral reefs containing a wide variety of living things. Although, every day, it seems that
our coral reefs are becoming endangered. While these coral reefs are important to us, they are in
great danger of being nonexistent.
First of all, a coral reef is defined as a ridge of rock in the sea formed by the growth and deposit of
coral. Coral reefs are a diverse underwater ecosystem held together by calcium carbonate structures.
They are created by colonies of tiny animals and organisms found in marine water. These animals
and organisms contain nutrients needed to help the process of coral reef formation. These reefs
begin to form when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In these coral reefs, live many different types of plants and animals. Some of these plants include
but are not limited to, algae. Algae is known for providing a source of food for the smaller fish and
invertebrate sea life. Then they are also known for acting like glue while helping the reefs grow
larger and stronger. Then in the reefs, are also seagrasses. These seagrasses can grow very
rapidly growing, and in return, they help trap sediment loads near the reefs. The seagrass can
also provide a habitat for smaller fish, invertebrate animals, sea turtles, and even manatees. One
of the final plants is the mangroves. Mangroves are plants that can help support a very wide
range of reef fishes and other marine life. The roots of the mangrove trees act as a nursery for
young reef fishes by giving them an are that is not very well seen. They are able to breed, and
the smaller fish are able to grow away from predators. Then there are also animals that live in the
reefs. Some of these animals are predators, while some are not. Some of these animals include
sea snakes, sea turtles, manatees, dugongs, sponges, crustaceans, and mollusks. These sea snakes
are said to be venomous, so scuba divers and fishers are recommended to stay away from them.
Then there are the sea turtles. The different species of sea turtles are most often seen resting on
the reef itself. One of the species of sea turtles is the Hawksbill turtle. They are a species that is

The Construction And Development Of Self Identity By...
Article Evaluation
The research focus/ Gap/ Intended audience
The study aims to investigate the construction and development of self identity by foreign national
students (FNSs) who decided to teach in a British public school after completing a Post Graduate
Certificate of Education (PGCE) Course. The goal of the study is to shed light on how these FNSs,
who are mostly from French, Germany or Spain, project their national identity or sometimes
distance themselves from their homeland. This study was motivated by the lack of studies that
explore FNSs social and cultural background, their national identities, and their unique educational
system. The main audience for this article are people who involved in education policy making in
the U.K, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The summary is well written and informative, including the purpose of the study, who the
participants are, the methods, and the results. However, the summary lacks the general implications
of the study, such as why participants either align or distance themselves from national identity. The
result section includes a thick description of how FNSs project their identities by either referring to
their home country or detach themselves completely from their national identities. In the
conclusion, the author does not give any suggestions or directions for future research.
Key Theories/ Literature
The key theories and concepts that frames this study are self identity, especially national identity,
multiple subjectivities, and racial stereotyping theories. The study draws upon all of the mentioned
key theories and concept.
Research Questions/Hypotheses
Since it is a qualitative research, the hypotheses were not proposed and tested before gathering data
and listening to what the participants say about their experiences. The research questions or
hypotheses were not explicitly expressed for this study. However, the author anticipated some
problems, such as feeling like outsiders at work, always feeling the need to defend their national
identity, and having to handle the differences between the U.K. educational system and their

Surfing Informative Speech
Have you ever seen a perfect wave with all of its beauty? I have been a victim of seeing the perfect

so you re in for a great treat. Some good spots to surf is Banzai Pipeline, Rincon, Malibu and much
more. In 1926 surfingwas born by a man named Tom Blake. He just took a piece of driftwood of
his house and went out to surf. Surfing is exciting because Thinking about surfing can excite

When the surf is good you can get long rides. When you get good long big waves it almost feels
like you re flying because when you are on a big wave and you pop up it feels like you can be
jumping down a mountain and gliding across it. A good long ride is like a steep barreling wave
and barreling means the wave opens up to like a room and you can pretty much go into that
room if the waves are barreling or some people call it being in the tube. Sometimes when you are
on a good long wave it can feel like you are gliding across the glorious deep blue sea forever. So
you probably noticed that good long rides are pretty epic! It s just a fun sport. Surfing is just an
overall fun sport because you can make up new tricks and your own surfing style for example, a
pro surfer Jordy Smith created the rodeo flip in which you do a backflip 360 and land it, also an
example of having your own surf style is Dane Reynolds who does turns that are way different
than anyone else s turns. You can also go in contests and if you win we all know that winning is
fun! When you are on a wave you re in total control and no one can control you like in other sports.
When it comes to excitement, surfing is what you should think

Why don t we examine the account of Eliphaz, you know him right?
Eiko: Yes. As what I can remember he is one of Job s three companions, a Temanite.
Angie: Yes he was a false comforter of Job during his tremendous trial. He was a descendant of
Abraham a distant relative of Job. However out of three comforters he was the most influential, and
possibly the oldest. He firstly attempted to suggest that Job had acted wickedly and that Jehovah

in Job 16:2,3 he likely consider Eliphaz as a false comforter. So that is what Job s reaction.
Eiko: They made Job feel condemned instead of comforting him. But how about Jehovah? How did
he react to Eliphaz in particular to those lies,
Angie: Let s read Job 42:7,9 I ll read it. (read Job 42:7,9)
Eiko: So the only way God would spare them was if Job prayed for them?
Angie: Yes. Job provides an outstanding example of mercy. His false comforters hurt him deeply,

Should Companies Have The Right To Monitor Employees E mails And Phone Conversations?
Employees watch out when using communication, whether e mail or phone, at work, you never
know who may be listening. Should companies have the right to monitor employees e mails and
phone conversation? Most studies believe that they, employers, do have the right to monitor the e
mail and phone conversations of their employees, as long as they are notified of the fact. There is a
tremendous amount of literature on this issue but it all seems to lean towards the right of the
employers.
The most notable law enacted law that allows employee monitoring was in 1986. It was the 1986

their privacy rights. In one instance, it was argued that if an employee wrote a note to a friend
with a work pencil and paper would this make it applicable to monitoring by the employer, as it
was written with their pencil and paper. This is what employers are arguing when they state that

they are entitled to respect, which requires attention to their privacy. If a boss were to monitor
every conversation or move, most of us would think of such an environment as more like a prison
then a humane workplace.
But in the case of phone calls or e mails some would believe that (William Parent, Privacy and
Morality and the Law ) there should be put in place criteria for determining which invasion of
privacy is justifiable. William Parent proposes that the employer should apply six questions to
review whether their act of monitoring is allowable or not and that this would offer guidance. But
most would agree that while it is legal for employers to monitor, it does not make it right.
Realistically, most workers are at work sometimes more than forty hours per week. So if they take

Summary Of Democracy Abroad, Lynching At Home
In Democracy Abroad, Lynching at Home , author Tameka Hobbs examines the history of racial
violence and lynchings in Florida, she focused especially on a string of ruthless lynchings that
occurred during the 1940s. She argues that these lynchings created difficult diplomatic moments
during both World War II and the Cold War period and that they forced the U.S. government to
become more active in prosecuting racial violence. While reading this book it is very hard to not
get upset. Although the stories of slavery and lynching are nothing new to the public it is just
unbelievable that such events could go on and are still happening to this day. Hobbs explores the
reasons why lynching continued in Florida when they were starting to wane elsewhere.

Johnny Tremain Character Analysis
Throughout the novel Johnny Tremain, the author, Esther Forbes, displays the universal concepts
of growing up and changing. When the story began, the protagonist, Johnny Tremain, was a
fourteen year old boy. At the end of the novel, Johnny emerges as a sixteen year old man,
unrecognizable from his younger self, due to carrying characteristics that contrast the traits of the
young boy he once was. As Johnny aged in the story, he underwent immense changes. Johnny had
changed by gaining the knowledge of how to make good choices, obtaining a better
comprehension on things in life, and learning to value certain items or deeds in life. During the
time when one is maturing, it is common that one will discover how to act wisely and behave
properly. When Johnny was growing up, he learned to think before he speaks. Formerly, Johnny
would attack someone verbally if they infuriated him. For instance, he acted out of anger and
called Merchant Lyte a gallows bird when the merchant took his cup. As Johnny matured, he
eventually rid himself of his proclivity for verbal attacking those who anger him and started to take
his words into consideration before saying them. Johnny found this method to be rewarding when
the slave of Sam Adams soaked him with dishwater and he waited before speaking. Because Johnny

Budget and Design Elements in a Proposal Essay
Budget and Design Elements in a Proposal
Budget and Design Elements in a Proposal Like it or not, budgets are often one of the most
important parts of any proposal or grant (Johnson Sheehan, 2008, p. 141). A project budget is an
estimated financial plan for any project that may require funding. The budget is a financial snapshot
of a project. An effective budget will outline specific costs that will be incurred in the performance
of a project during a specific time period. Budgets that are thoughtfully constructed and well
presented can be crucial to the funder s proper understanding of your project. The form the budget
will take will be determined by the complexity of the funder s guidelines. For simple projects a ...

For a training program the budget will be composed of both fixed and variable costs. The outline
could follow a fixed cost non itemized model of expenses and income. This type of budget can
represent a summary of costs in a clear and easy to follow format. The major costs involved are
fixed costs such as Management and Labor, facilities and equipment, and as such, extensive
breakdowns are not generally required.
Major Fixed Costs
Salaries
Staff salaries and benefits are generally the most expensive fixed cost. Employee s time can be
itemized according to the percentage of time spent on the project. Depending on the curriculum, it
may also prove necessary to hire specialized trainers on a per diem or contract basis. In this event
industry rates can be used to estimate these charges. The budget summary should detail how many
people will be assigned and describe their roles in the project.
Equipment and Facilities Much of the equipment used is equipment that is already owned. For
companies specializing in training most of the equipment is already on hand. These would include
items such as computers, copiers, projectors, whiteboards, and any other machinery that is
routinely used either in the administrative offices or in the classroom. Provision should be made
for maintenance and upkeep as replacements can be expensive. A good way to estimate these costs
is to track past replacement costs and to budget accordingly. Overhead is a fixed cost that

Violence As A Cleansing Force Essay
The third aspect of the function of violence in decolonization is violence as a cleansing force.
For Fanon, in the process of decolonization, violence liberates the consciousness of the oppressed
people by erasing their inferiority complex: At the level of individuals, violence is a cleansing
force. It frees the native from his inferiority complex and from his despair and inaction; it makes
him fearless and restores his self respect. [. . .] When the people have taken violent part in the
national liberation they will allow no one to set themselves up as liberators. (The Wretched of
the Earth 94) In other words, Fanon emphasizes violence as a cathartic element through which
colonized man can create a sounder self identity. We can find some famous examples of violence
as a cleansing force in American literature. In Richard Wright s Native Son, Bigger Thomas, the
protagonist, feels a sense of freedom for the first time in his life after he kills Mary Dalton, the
white girl, because the violence of murder is the only practice of rebellion for him to commit
throughout his whole life against the structural violence rampant in a racist society. Max, Bigger s
lawyer, explains how Bigger felt after he has killed Mary Dalton as follows: He murdered Mary
Dalton accidentally, without thinking, without plan, without conscious motive. But, after he
murdered, he accepted the crime. And that s the important thing. It was the first full act of his life;
it was the most

There are two kinds of skepticism, local skepticism, which...
There are two kinds of skepticism, local skepticism, which states that some areas of inquiry don t
allow for knowledge, and global skepticism, which states that we cannot know anything about the
world, (Bogosian). One of the most common arguments for skepticism is the Brain in a Vat
argument, which is very similar to the argumentof the Evil Demon who controls us. In opposition
to this is a philosopher by the name of Hilary Putnam, who uses language as proof for us not being
brains in vats. I am going to explain to you why I think that Putnam is correct.
If you cannot be sure that you are not a brain in a vat, then you cannot rule out the possibility of all
of your beliefs about the external world being false. (Bruekner, 2004) I ... Show more content on

In his idea, someone who has never seen a tree, would not automatically call a tree by that name
when they saw it, however while we go through life we call things by their names. (Brueckner,
2004)He states that if he were a brain in a vat, and he called something a tree it would be no more
accurate than someone who had never seen a table using the word to describe a duck. He uses the
simple argument of:
a.If I am a BIV, then my word tree does not refer to trees.
b.My word tree refers to trees. So,
c.I am not a BIV (Brueckner, 2004)
However, it is also stated that you cannot know that the image and knowledge of trees were not
programmed into the brains in vats, so they could know that the word tree means the image of a
tree. So unfortunately this, like most other Cartesian skepticism arguments, for me at least, is a
hard sell. If I had to decide on one of the two arguments to be the strongest, I would choose the
argument against the idea of brains in vats. This is mostly because I believe that there are too
many emotions and individual decisions that play out in each person s life for us to all actually be
brains that are controlled by a computer or by one person. Every single day we are making
hundreds of decisions and the responses to the same question, when presented to a variety of
people vary significantly, and some of those decisions can change spur of

Disadvantages Of Humanities
I appreciate Mr. Coles essay, but as someone who s went to college once and basically starting over

the humanities should be optional. Based on my brief tenure in the professional workforce, I didn t

had to pay that money back monthly. I let that debt sit almost three years, when I went to

The Developing Person Through The Life Span
Losing A Loved One Will Result A Person To Mature
Death is very hard to understand. Even adults have a tough time coping with their loved one s
death what more a child or a teenager finding out that his father will not be around anymore.
According to Kathleen Berger in the book called The Developing Person Through The Life Span,
she believes that Adolescents find way to vent their grief to express their personal identity concerns
and control their anxiety about death by taking risks (Berger 2014). I absolutely agree with Berger
s research about how adolescents react to death because it is exactly how I felt and reacted during
those times that my father was at the verge of death. Sons are normally close with their father and
as the fourth child of the family, I was very close with my father. He disciplined us in a way that a
child would understand and up until now that s the method I use to raise my kids. The road that
lead me to maturity took me a lot of time to recover from my father s death, how I coped during
the times that he was not with us anymore and how I had to snapped out of my outrageous activity
to notice that I was not the only one hurting.
March 1987, my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. It was very hard to believe and accept
that he was ill. He was only 58 years old after all and I just started my first year of college at the
age of 17 years old. Prostate cancer did not wait a long time to take our father away from us. Six

The Illusion Of Perception In Heartbeat By Julian Beever
Is what we see always the reality of everything? We tend to think that what see is true, but
sometimes our perceptions of things is not reality. Many magic tricks and optical illusions can
trick our brain into seeing something that s not real. Having our eyes deceiving us multiple times
show that how we perceive things aren t always accurate. First of all, looking at things from a
certain perspective can change the way something looks. For example, Julian Beever, a chalk
artist, who draws pavement art on the streets uses a certain technique in his work. In the book, it

Examples Of Persuasion In Julius Caesar
Persuasion; The act of getting someone to do or believe something through reasoning or the use of
temptation. For example, right now I am trying to persuade you to read this essay about
persuasion. When trying to persuade someone it is very effective to use ethos, pathos, and logos.
These techniques are used to make the the author seem credible, appeal to emotions, and use facts
and research to back up an argument. The characters in Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare use
persuasionto try and get others to join their side. In Julius Caesar Act I Scene ii Cassius has a
monologue where he is trying to convince Brutus that Caesar should not be the king of Rome
because he is not more worthy than anyone else. After Cassius talks for a while Brutus says that he
will keep Cassius s thoughts in consideration. Cassius s monologue was persuasive to Brutus
because he used ethos, pathos, and logos to get him to believe that Caesar should not be the King
of Rome.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Cassius was saying his monologue to Brutus he needed to show that he knew what he
was talking about or Brutus would not be easily persuaded to join the side against Julius Caesar.
In the middle of his monologueline 52, Cassius states, I was born free as Caesar; so were you:
We both have fed as well, and we can both endure the winter s cold as well as he. To show Brutus
that he knew what he was talking about, Cassius talked about his personal experiences to back up
his statements. He was trying to show Brutus that they were all born as equal citizens so it is not
right that Caesar gets to be seen as a higher power now. Since Cassius made this statement talking
about Brutus being equal as well, Brutus was able to see how this decision affects

Mostly, bad coordination in a company or organization can decrease its productivity no matter
what. However, for more clarification, I ll give an example. If a person has to market a new
mobile phone, and due to lack of good communication between the employees of different
departments, some of the features were missed and this would cause a bad advertising. The
department who is responsible for money is finance which includes budget. When a lack of
coordination happens between finance and marketing, marketers might end up with an extra which
overtake the budget. Finance consider as an operation like everything around us except the flesh
and blood , so by the example I gave here you can be able to understand how important is to
coordinate between operations not only between those two business functions. For an organization
it is not an option; it is something natural. Employees just have to work together in harmony and
they must have good communication skills. (Miriana, 2014:

The Government And Environmental Policy Essay
The Government and Environmental Policy
The purpose of the United States public policy law is to implement restrictions in an effort to solve
problems, which can be seen with the Clean Water Act.
Public policy has also been employed to reform the Endangered Species Act of
1973. Although the United States government is noble in it s efforts to preserve the environment
through these acts, the internal structure of public policy often retards these acts effectiveness. This
paper will explore the many ways in which factors such as horizontal implementation, divided
government, and other forms of public policy affect the environmental legislation involved with the
aforementioned acts. The main factors involved with the Endangered

And, of course, workset like incentives such as taxes, fees, allowances, refunds, and liability are
used to enforce the laws effectively.
Horizontal implementation refers specifically to implementation with the federal government, as
opposed to vertical implementation which is at the state and local levels. There are several
specific concerns with horizontal implementation which include the breakdown of coordination
due to the large structure of the federal government, language difficulties, lack of control due to
the threat of success by one particular agency, different perspectives, and direct change of
intention due to factors such as voter pressure. It s amazing that in the midst of all this that
anything can be accomplished at all, but thanks to the drive to be re elected, things have to get
done on the federal level or else the person in question will be renounced from power.
So now that a foundation of the processes controlling these acts has been established, the question
arises, what exactly is the Endangered Species Act?
As one author puts it, quot; The Endangered Species Act of 1973, perhaps more than any other
environmental law, dares to draw an unwavering line in the path of
American progress. It boldly says in essence, Thou shalt not cause any species of plant or animal to

An Education is More Important In the world, there are over a thousand professional athletes.
There are only a handful of these player that have a four year college education. The National

that five out of ten NFL players have a college degree. This is one of the higher percentage for
professional athletes having a college degree. To declare for the NFL a player must complete two
years of college football. This rule pushes athletes to get classes at a college, but does not give them

The NBA draft only has two round and thirty picks. That means each team gets two picks. An

Canadian Identity Stereotypes
Letting Others Define Us
Canadian identity is defined as how Canadians differ from the rest of the world and the
uniqueness of Canadian life. Today, Canada has a variety of stereotypes foreigners associate with
Canada and essentially, Canadian identity is defined based on how others perceive us. Some of the
critical ideas that foreigners typically associate Canada are universal healthcare, multiculturalism,
and peace. All three of these stereotypes based off foreigners impressions of Canada help define
Canadian identity. However, these stereotypes do not appear out of thin air, instead, they come
from historical events. The Citizenship Act, UN Peacekeeping Mission during the Suez Crisis, and
the Medical Care Act all contributed in the construction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It simply provided an easy way to define the lives of people living in Canada as Canadian citizens.
The Citizenship Act of 1947 allowed citizens to become subjects of Canada rather than subjects of
Britain. It allowed anyone of any racial or ethnic background to apply for citizenship, free of
discrimination. It was meant to create a sense of unity among Canadians while relieving racial or
ethnic tensions. This was significant in defining not only Canadian citizens, but also led to Canada
s multicultural society and the Multiculturalism Act in 1971. From a foreigners perspective, this act
was perceived as an attempt of removing discrimination and racism in Canada. Due to these anti
discriminatory rules of the act, foreigners inferred that Canada was starting to minimize and remove
racial discrimination to allow everyone to be a Canadian citizen. In simplified terms, Canada
wanted to promote multiculturalism instead of discriminating against everyone who was not
British. Thus, foreigners defined multiculturalism as a part of Canadian identity. This aspect of
national identity only strengthened with time as more and more events promoted multiculturalism
for Canada to become the multicultural country today. In addition, it is seen today that many
immigrants choose to come to Canada due to the culturally diverse, welcoming society here. This
further proves that foreigners believe that multiculturalism is a big part of Canada, defining its
national identity. In summary, the Citizenship Act marked the beginning of multiculturalism in
Canada and sparked more events promoting multiculturalism. This resulted in foreigners defining a
stereotype of multiculturalism as an important aspect of Canada s national identity

We often forget our moral development in life. It tends to lead us to a sense of confusion, and

precisely executes the true meaning of self reconciliation within the characters in their scenes. The
development among each character helps them understand what they need in life; opposed to what
they did. The growth they signify adds to the plot of each character in their finest form.

Sediment Contamination
Sediments are formed from fine grained waste material due to erosion from the mine site. It often
contains dissolved metals as a result of the mining processes containing some toxic constituents
such as lead and high levels of mercury. During severe storm events and high snowmelt periods,
erosion transports a significant amount of sediments and chemicals pollutants into locals streams.
Dissolved metals often settle under the stream bed and cause decreases in macroinvertebrate and
benthic invertebrate populations. Metal accumulation in aquatic organisms, particularly benthic
species, can also lead to acute and chronic toxicity to aquatic life [EPA 35]. In addition, research
has shown a correlation between an increase in suspended solids with a decrease in density of
macroinvertebrate and benthic invertebrate populations. High turbidity can also reduce passages of
light and prevent photosynthetic activity of aquatic plants [EPA 34 35]. Aquatic plants are a major
food source for macroinvertebrates and benthic invertebrates. The reduction of plants can stimulate
further declines in aquatic life populations.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Metals that settle in the stream bed can be transported by bioaccumulation. If contaminated fish is
consumed, metals may be transferred to humans and impact their physical health. Human are

potential impacts on human and aquatic life, sedimentation can also physically impact the
hydraulic system. Physical impact associated with mining includes the filling of deep pools that
can result in the loss of habitat and temperature increases [EPA 35]. Excess sediment can build up

Controversy Surrounding the Use of Contraception
Introduction
From the time when it became available the near the beginning of the 1960s, oral contraceptives,
commonly called the pill, have opened possibilities that had were shut to females for all of times
gone by. Possibly more than any other sole factor, the pill has made it likely for women to be in
charge of of their own lives and to attain their prospects. Nowadays, 100 million women all over the
world use the pill. Nonetheless, there are emergencies ensuing from rape or failure to use
contraceptive plans. There are in addition emergencies ensuing from accidental consensual sex. In
spite of everything, the human sexual desire was fashioned by evolution to guarantee procreation,
and it works extremely fine. Given the correct psychological stimulants, pretty much everyone,
counting presidents of the United States and well known religious leaders, will jeopardize it all for
an illicit sexual rendezvous (Drazen, et al. 2004). To be adamant that society rely exclusively on
self restraint more willingly than contraception is to refute a nature beside which the gods
themselves are unable to compete. The whole history of humanity can be interpreted as evidence to
the influence of that nature.
Plan B was produced to cover emergencies, no matter what their reason. It turned out to be
obtainable by prescription in 1999. Millions of women have ever since found Plan B to be harmless
and efficient if ingested after intercourse but sooner than a spermatozoon enters the membrane

Employee Reward System Essay
INTRODUCTION
A reward system is defined as a structures method of evaluating and compensating employees
based on their performance. It also refers to all the monetary, non monetary and psychological

Obeyesekere s analysis of personally tormented Karuvanati Maniyo (Obeyesekere, 391). The
exact same model of control is present when the woman attempts to escape the boundaries
imposed by the community. Yellamma women are typically members of communities formerly
designated as untouchable, what directly suggests their social exclusion (Ramberg, 502). The
control the community has over these women, however, is somewhat erased when they become
the ecstatics in Yellamma cult. The social upgrade is marked by dominant caste devotees
obligation to touch the feet of Yellamma women in a gesture of humility in order to receive the
blessing of the devi (Ramberg, 506). Therefore, women are able to escape the discrimination by
another form of submission, marked either by social seclusion, as in case of Karuvanati Maniyo,
or by creating the direct bond with the deity in a rite of marriage, as for Yellamma ecstatics.
However, Ramberg s further analysis on sexuality hints that the society, in order to regain control

Ingenico And Verifone Case Study
What lies in the future for Ingenico and Verifone with the rise of regional POS manufacturers and
mobile wallets? The market for payment processing terminals manufacturing and payment
processing has been globally duopolistic until recently. This was dominated by the two companies
established in 1980 s, Verifone, based out of the US and Ingenico, based out of France.
Traditionally, the industry was marked by entry barriers in the form of high initial capital
requirement, a high research, development and innovation requirements and long gestation period
required to obtain certification in a country. These entry barriers helped Ingenico and Verifone to
dominate the global POS market. In addition, over the period these companies built a strong
collaboration with payment processing companies such as Visa and MasterCard for the
development of new technologies and eliminated potential competition through the acquisition of
firms developing innovative technology. Duopolistic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Keanu Reeves Research Paper
According to Mahatma Gandhi, Be the change you want to see in the world. Keanu Reeves is
one of the best well known actors, producers, and musicians in the United State. Reeves has been
playing the role of a hero, for he shares his wealth, time, and love with the world. Moreover, Reeves
demonstrates that he is a great man for making positive changes in other people s life. For me,
Reeves is an incomparable person whom I admire because he is a generous person and a role
model: and, he is a sturdy person.
When I first saw Reeves in the Matrix movies, I regarded him as an ordinary or typical actor.
However, while I was watching a video on YouTube about great and unique artists, some of the
truths about Reeves revealed itself to me. Since then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He begins with overcoming objections, such as drug and depression. Although he did not have a
father in his life while growing up, he turns out to be a father and provider for children who are
in needs and fatherless. Reeves demonstrates he is strong minded by moving forward throughout
the challenges and barriers he had to overcome. For example, he chose to make a different path in
life after witnessing his best friend die of an overdose. He also overcame depression, even though
death follows him like paparazzi in Hollywood. Reeves sister was killed by leukemia; therefore, he
funds millions of dollars to charities and hospital to help those who are diagnosed with the disease.
Regardless of the Reeves loss of his first born child and lover in a car accident, he chose to love
again and helps making other children s life better. In brief, I admire the Reeves role as a provider
and giver to those in needs despite his own life tragedies.
On the whole, I have many reasons for acknowledging Reeves as one of my most admire artists.
When I describe him as generous, model, and sturdy, I feel good because those words also resemble
me. He has motivated me, and others alike, to make positive change. Reeves moves me by
playing the role I dream of becoming. Keanu Reeves shows that one way we can make better

Essay about The Rocking Horse vs Lottery
Professor
ENGL 102 B54 LUO
3 February 2014 The Lottery vs. The Rocking Horse Winner
In The Rocking Horse Winner, by D. H. Lawrence, and The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson, the two
authors illustrate symbols and themes throughout their stories in which one common idea is
present: perhaps winning is not always positive. The Rocking Horse Winner, by D.H. Lawrence is a
fictional story about a woman s obsession for money and the lack of love and affection she shows to
her family. Her son Paul hopes to change his mother s mind set in order to gain her love by
becoming lucky. Paul discovers a way to become lucky from a rocking horse that he receives as a
Christmas present. He perceives that this horse has magical powers, ... Show more content on

Hester tells Paul that luck is what causes you to have money. If you re lucky you have money.
That s why it s better to be born lucky than rich. If you re rich you may lose money. But if you re
lucky, you will always have money. (236) This pushes Paul to desperately seek out luck so that
his mother will be grateful for her life and provide her family with the love and affection that
they so rightfully deserve. Paul believes his rocking horse is full of magical powers, which will
help him achieve the luck he needs to gain his mother s love. While Paul rides his rocking horse,
the horse predicts the winning horse and ends up making Paul an appalling amount of money. Paul
gives his winnings to his mother who squanders it on unnecessary materialistic things. He realizes
that he must win more money to win his mother s affections. He becomes mad and frantically
searches for the next winner of the horse races. On Paul s last ride to find the last winner of the
horse race, he falls of the horse and eventually dies.
Lawrence shows many points by applying these obvious symbols: the rocking horse and the
whispering house. The wooden rocking horse symbolizes the fantasy quest that Paul takes to attain
luck. This magical mysterious wooden horse also tells Paul who will win the horse races. The
whispering house symbolizes his mother s lust for money. The house constantly haunts Paul and his
siblings with the

Essay On Eulogy
On Monday, October 30 2017, I went to Pruis Hall and heard Alex Sheen, the founder of the
nonprofit Because I Said I Would. His dad, a pharmacist in Cleveland, was diagnosed with stage
four lung cancer. To combat the disease, he went through chemo radiation which seemed to be
working, and he was able to go out with his family for Chinese food. However, the cancerlater
spread to his liver, pancreas and brain, and resulted in death. Alex decided to give a eulogy at the
funeral, in which he decided he would start fulfilling more promises. Here, he first said the phrase
Because I said I would, which later led to his going viral on social media with millions of likes and
his starting of a blog. Through class discussions and presentations,... Show more content on

Although he and followers of his blog did not have to fulfill these promise cards, it shows the
importance of being a man of your word and keeping your promises. Although not everyone can
afford so much time or money to fulfill a promise, Alex said people should do what you can with
what you have.
Alex said at the conclusion of his speech that everyone is born with the ability to make and keep
a promise. This goes into our yearlong class discussion of Is a leader born or made? Alex, who
believes everyone can make and keep their promises, would believe that leaders are made. Prior to
writing his blog and eventually starting his nonprofit, Alex had no public works experience, public
speaking experience, or leadership experience. As he said, he was just some guy who worked at a
software company making a six figure income with five figure stock options. He did not need
the money, and thought about stopping, as running a nonprofit in addition to working forty
hours a week was a big time commitment and expensive. That was until one day he went into
work and saw a letter on his desk by an unnamed follower of his saying that she appreciated and
was inspired by his blog and work and said that he inspired her to make a promise of her own.
For the past few years, she had been constantly made fun of for her appearance and for being
overweight, so she started cutting herself and was considering suicide.

To What Extent Was The American Revolution A Class Struggle
1In what ways was the revolution a class struggle? After the seven years war, the impending
class division was inevitable. As the revolution began demanding more and more support, it was
clear that the revolution was not appealing to slaves nor Native Americans. Additionally, it was
the bigotry of the revolutionary leadership that led to the distrust of poor mobs in addition to
slaves and Native Americans. However, as demand for capable soldiers grew, the revolutionary
leadership was forced to recruit the less desirables . The military became a place of promise for
the less fortunate, in hopes of creating a new identity and gaining respect and or wealth. 2How did
the revolution fail to solve those class differences? While the cause began searching for extra
soldiers to support the cause, the soldiers joining had further hedonistic motivations, and found that
the military was nothing more than a political conversion ploy. The military struggled to stay united
under a common goal, and as Loyalists fled, their land caused great dispute between the

Compare And Contrast Crime And Punishment In Ancient Egypt
This paper is to compare and contrast crime and punishment in the ancient Mesopotamia and
Egypt mainly from the following three perspectives: religion, the purpose of punishment and
women. In terms of religion, we can tell from the Laws of Hammurabi and the Egyptian papyri
that the views of religion were both considered to be supreme in the ancient states. But there are
some differences between the views of the religion, especially in the objective to which the
people of two states believed in respectively. In the Laws of Hammurabi, there are some examples
that prove the status of the nature, like the river, and, in some cases, the river was the symbol of
justice which could prove whether the accused were guilty or not. People believed... Show more

why the Roman Empire fell, and the causes of this fall. To start of with in the second year of the
reign of Valens in 366 ce a disaster happened..an earthquake came upon the roman empire and
destroyed numerous amounts of cities. But the roman empire was not prepared for this earthquake,

Leader Member Exchange Theory, also called LMX or Vertical Dyad Linkage Theory, describes

This negotiation includes relationship factors as well as pure work related ones, and a member
who is similar to the leader in various ways is more likely to succeed. This perhaps explains why
mixed gender relationships regularly are less successful than same gender ones (it also affects
the seeking of respect in the first stage). The same effect also applies to cultural and racial
differences. 3. Routinization In this phase, a pattern of ongoing social exchange between the
leader and the member becomes established. Success factors Successful members are thus similar
in many ways to the leader (which perhaps explains why many senior teams are all white, male,
middle class and middle aged). They work hard at building and sustaining trust and respect. To
help this, they are empathetic, patient, reasonable, sensitive, and are good at seeing the viewpoint
of other people (especially the leader). Aggression, sarcasm and an egocentric view are keys to the

Legacy systems built with specific design principles that can hinder the IT department when they
begin to update or make changes to upgrade the software. Integration of these legacy systems
became an issue in the late 90s when little was done to prepare organizations on how their data
would be shared through other platforms (Erl, 2008). This issue introduced many an array of
problems for organizations, especially when trying to convert into a larger scale model of
previous designs. The lack of stability, extensibility, and inadequate interoperability of frameworks

The services created will allow consumers the access to the most up to date products while giving
the enterprise the correct data for further advancement in technology and business. Short term
solutions to software can lead to numerous problems. The number one issue has the IT team trying
to diagnose an issue in limited amounts of time. The software can be complicated to understand
thus limiting the amount of time spent on designing the application could result in errors in the
processes for the enterprise. Also, short term operations eliminate the opportunity to reduce cost and
increase production times for the organizations. Ultimately, short term procedures do not allow the
time for real time decisions as well as the time to develop compatible software. In conclusion, a
successful investment will revolve around the amount of time invested in the products. An
organization must devote ample time for a product to reap the maximum amount of benefits. Time
equals money and to get a favorable return an enterprise must put in the time to see any gains from

  • 2. Summary Of The Scarlet Letter The Scarlet Letter Reading Journal Chapters 2 3 Hester Prynne is first introduced by an angry crowd of people calling for her death. It seems as Hester has done something terribly wrong, something unforgivable. It gave me mixed thoughts, because I had no idea what she had done that made these people so furious, she could be innocent for all I, or any of the characters, know. Hester s babe was compared/contrasted to the Scarlet Letter on herself, showing that her babe, not the Letter, was the true consequence to her sinful actions, although the Letter was the more shameful/public symbol. The crowd find anger in how she apparently shows of the Scarlet Letter as if it s something she is proud of, and not something she is ashamed of, as it was designed to be. Chapters 4 5 When Hester and her husband reunite, he tries to get Hester to reveal the name of the man she sinned with. She will not reveal his name, so Chillingworth tries to confuse and trick her into revealing his name. This does not work, however, and the name of her fellow sinner is left unknown to Chillingworth. Chillingworth also mentions that he is foolish to believe that he could retain such a beautiful wife while he was gone. He also says he wasn t the right husband for her, and that he should of returned sooner. Chapters 6 7 The name of Hester s daughter, Pearl, is a symbol that she gave everything she had for her baby, her only treasure, or pearl. Pearl is a troublemaker, inheriting all the defiance ... The thesis statement is that search engines are invading the privacyof online consumers and search engines should not invade consumer privacy because these Search engine companies have no business in finding what the user is doing on the internet .Social media and Search engines are invading the privacy of internet users all around the world and keep track of all user info on the computers and this should not be allowed in any way..According to Caitlin Dewey , reporter in Washington D.C from the washington post it states Google has, since 2009,published a transparency tool called Dashboard which lets users see exactly what kind of data the internet giant has on them and from which services. This quote shows that since 2009 Google decided to create the tool Dashboard which makes it easier for google to see what other computer consumers are using.Another quote relating to this issue also from(Dewey,2014) it states The issue of data collection has provoked renewed anxiety of late, perhaps spurred by recent investigations into personal ... Should companies have the right to monitor employees e mails and phone conversation? Most studies believe that they, employers, do have the right to monitor the e mail and phone conversations of their employees, as long as they are notified of the fact. There is a tremendous amount of literature on this issue but it all seems to lean towards the right of the employers. The most notable law enacted law that allows employee monitoring was in 1986. They believe that just because someone becomes your employee doesn t mean they give up all their privacy rights. In one instance, it was argued that if an employee wrote a note to a friend with a work pencil and paper would this make it applicable to monitoring by the employer, as it was written with their pencil and paper. This is what employers are arguing when they state that they an employee is using their electronics, so therefore monitoring is applicable. Still others would argue that privacy in the workplace is a moral matter (Michael J. Meyer, SCU Professor). they are entitled to respect, which requires attention to their privacy. If a boss were to monitor every conversation or move, most of us would think of such an environment as more like a prison then a humane workplace. But in the case of phone calls or e mails some would believe that (William Parent, Privacy and Morality and the Law ) there should be put in place criteria for determining which invasion of privacy is justifiable. William Parent proposes that the employer should apply six questions to review whether their act of monitoring is allowable or not and that this would offer guidance. But most would agree that while it is legal for employers to monitor, it does not make it right. Realistically, most workers are at work sometimes more than forty hours per week. Summary Of Democracy Abroad, Lynching At Home In Democracy Abroad, Lynching at Home , author Tameka Hobbs examines the history of racial violence and lynchings in Florida, she focused especially on a string of ruthless lynchings that occurred during the 1940s. She argues that these lynchings created difficult diplomatic moments during both World War II and the Cold War period and that they forced the U.S. government to become more active in prosecuting racial violence. While reading this book it is very hard to not get upset. At the end of the novel, Johnny emerges as a sixteen year old man, unrecognizable from his younger self, due to carrying characteristics that contrast the traits of the young boy he once was. As Johnny aged in the story, he underwent immense changes. Johnny had changed by gaining the knowledge of how to make good choices, obtaining a better comprehension on things in life, and learning to value certain items or deeds in life. During the time when one is maturing, it is common that one will discover how to act wisely and behave properly. When Johnny was growing up, he learned to think before he speaks. Formerly, Johnny would attack someone verbally if they infuriated him. For instance, he acted out of anger and called Merchant Lyte a gallows bird when the merchant took his cup. As Johnny matured, he eventually rid himself of his proclivity for verbal attacking those who anger him and started to take his words into consideration before saying them. Johnny found this method to be rewarding when the slave of Sam Adams soaked him with dishwater and he waited before speaking. Because Johnny ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Budget and Design Elements in a Proposal Essay Budget and Design Elements in a Proposal Budget and Design Elements in a Proposal Like it or not, budgets are often one of the most important parts of any proposal or grant (Johnson Sheehan, 2008, p. 141). A project budget is an estimated financial plan for any project that may require funding. The budget is a financial snapshot of a project. An effective budget will outline specific costs that will be incurred in the performance of a project during a specific time period. Budgets that are thoughtfully constructed and well presented can be crucial to the funder s proper understanding of your project. For a training program the budget will be composed of both fixed and variable costs. The outline could follow a fixed cost non itemized model of expenses and income. This type of budget can represent a summary of costs in a clear and easy to follow format. The major costs involved are fixed costs such as Management and Labor, facilities and equipment, and as such, extensive breakdowns are not generally required. Major Fixed Costs Salaries Staff salaries and benefits are generally the most expensive fixed cost. Employee s time can be itemized according to the percentage of time spent on the project. Depending on the curriculum, it may also prove necessary to hire specialized trainers on a per diem or contract basis. In this event industry rates can be used to estimate these charges. The budget summary should detail how many people will be assigned and describe their roles in the project. Equipment and Facilities Much of the equipment used is equipment that is already owned. For companies specializing in training most of the equipment is already on hand. These would include items such as computers, copiers, projectors, whiteboards, and any other machinery that is routinely used either in the administrative offices or in the classroom. • 15. Violence As A Cleansing Force Essay The third aspect of the function of violence in decolonization is violence as a cleansing force. For Fanon, in the process of decolonization, violence liberates the consciousness of the oppressed people by erasing their inferiority complex: At the level of individuals, violence is a cleansing force. It frees the native from his inferiority complex and from his despair and inaction; it makes him fearless and restores his self respect. [. . .] When the people have taken violent part in the national liberation they will allow no one to set themselves up as liberators. (The Wretched of the Earth 94) In other words, Fanon emphasizes violence as a cathartic element through which colonized man can create a sounder self identity. We can find some famous examples of violence as a cleansing force in American literature. In Richard Wright s Native Son, Bigger Thomas, the protagonist, feels a sense of freedom for the first time in his life after he kills Mary Dalton, the white girl, because the violence of murder is the only practice of rebellion for him to commit throughout his whole life against the structural violence rampant in a racist society. Max, Bigger s lawyer, explains how Bigger felt after he has killed Mary Dalton as follows: He murdered Mary Dalton accidentally, without thinking, without plan, without conscious motive. But, after he murdered, he accepted the crime. And that s the important thing. It was the first full act of his life; it was the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are two kinds of skepticism, local skepticism, which states that some areas of inquiry don t allow for knowledge, and global skepticism, which states that we cannot know anything about the world, (Bogosian). One of the most common arguments for skepticism is the Brain in a Vat argument, which is very similar to the argumentof the Evil Demon who controls us. In opposition to this is a philosopher by the name of Hilary Putnam, who uses language as proof for us not being brains in vats. I am going to explain to you why I think that Putnam is correct. If you cannot be sure that you are not a brain in a vat, then you cannot rule out the possibility of all of your beliefs about the external world being false. (Bruekner, 2004) I ... In his idea, someone who has never seen a tree, would not automatically call a tree by that name when they saw it, however while we go through life we call things by their names. (Brueckner, 2004)He states that if he were a brain in a vat, and he called something a tree it would be no more accurate than someone who had never seen a table using the word to describe a duck. He uses the simple argument of: a.If I am a BIV, then my word tree does not refer to trees. b.My word tree refers to trees. So, c.I am not a BIV (Brueckner, 2004) However, it is also stated that you cannot know that the image and knowledge of trees were not programmed into the brains in vats, so they could know that the word tree means the image of a tree. So unfortunately this, like most other Cartesian skepticism arguments, for me at least, is a hard sell. If I had to decide on one of the two arguments to be the strongest, I would choose the argument against the idea of brains in vats. This is mostly because I believe that there are too many emotions and individual decisions that play out in each person s life for us to all actually be brains that are controlled by a computer or by one person. The exact same model of control is present when the woman attempts to escape the boundaries imposed by the community. Yellamma women are typically members of communities formerly designated as untouchable, what directly suggests their social exclusion (Ramberg, 502).
