WHEREAS, Dr. Sharon M. Kolb has served with distinction in the Department of Special Education as
Professor, 2012-2022; as Associate Professor, 2005-2012; as Assistant Professor, 2001-2005; and as
Lecturer, 2000-2001 at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for 22 years, and;
WHEREAS, Dr. Sharon M. Kolb has provided high quality student advising and leadership at the
undergraduate and graduate level within the department, coordinating several programs over the years:
Intellectual Disabilities, Clinical and Field Experiences, Cross-Categorical Licensure, Minor, Transition, and
SPECED4U, and;
WHEREAS, Dr. Sharon M. Kolb has served on the College of Education and Professional Studies
(COEPS) International Education Committee from 2007-2020, serving as chair 2009-2012 and 2017-
2019, working diligently to build international connections and cultural opportunities for students and
faculty, involving travel to Africa, China, Finland, South Korea, Sweden, and Trinidad, and;
WHEREAS, Dr. Sharon M. Kolb was instrumental in building and coordinating the Sweden student
teaching program by fostering a strong partnership with the Umea University, Sweden, leading to over
105 student participants under her leadership. She facilitated five international visits with Sweden
Faculty at UW-Whitewater involving a total of 20 participants, updated the Umea-Whitewater
exchange agreement, created the first Umea Counseling Fieldwork exchange in Wisconsin, conducted
over 17 in person and virtual lectures at Umea University since 2008, and;
WHEREAS, Dr. Sharon M. Kolb has advanced the field of special education and qualitative research
through 16 evidence-based publications that have accumulated over 1,296 literary citations, 45 international,
national, regional, and local presentations, including 4 keynote presentations in Accra, Ghana, Africa;
Leicester, United Kingdom; Umea, Sweden; Wisconsin Dells, United States, and;
WHEREAS, Dr. Sharon M. Kolb inspired her students to be agents of change to promote self-efficacy,
self-determination, and inclusive practices to enhance career development and future outcomes for
individuals with and without disabilities world-wide, and;
WHEREAS, Dr. Sharon M. Kolb launched and implement the SPECED4U online special education
degree program in 2019, teaching 22 different courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in the
department of Special Education, and
WHEREAS, Dr. Sharon M. Kolb received 2010 Audrey Z. McClellan Endowed Teacher of Distinction
Award in the College of Education and Professional Studies, including nominations in 2004, 2014, 2016,
2017, 2018, 2019, 2020; the 2010 and 2020 W.P. Roseman Excellence in Teaching Award (COEPS)
nominee; Service Award Recipient in 2011; The Division of Career Development Outstanding Service
Award, Council for Exceptional Children, in 2013, thus recognizing her commitment to the department,
college, university, and the profession, and;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Faculty Senate of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
congratulates Professor Sharon M. Kolb on her retirement and endorses the Department of Special
Educations’ request that she be awarded the rank of Professor Emerita with all the attendant rights and
privileges that accompany this particular status for our most distinguished colleague, and;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we, the faculty and staff of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
extend our best wishes for a retirement filled with adventures, health, and happiness to Dr. Sharon M.
Kolb and her family and express our deepest gratitude as well as our sincere appreciation for her years of
service to our community.

KOLB Ph.D., Special Education, UW-Madison - 2000 M.S.E., Special Education, UW-Whitewater - 1993 B.S., Special Education and Elementary Education, UW-Eau Claire – 1988 WHEREAS, Dr. Sharon M. Kolb has served with distinction in the Department of Special Education as Professor, 2012-2022; as Associate Professor, 2005-2012; as Assistant Professor, 2001-2005; and as Lecturer, 2000-2001 at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for 22 years, and; WHEREAS, Dr. Sharon M. Kolb has provided high quality student advising and leadership at the undergraduate and graduate level within the department, coordinating several programs over the years: Intellectual Disabilities, Clinical and Field Experiences, Cross-Categorical Licensure, Minor, Transition, and SPECED4U, and; WHEREAS, Dr. Sharon M. Kolb has served on the College of Education and Professional Studies (COEPS) International Education Committee from 2007-2020, serving as chair 2009-2012 and 2017- 2019, working diligently to build international connections and cultural opportunities for students and faculty, involving travel to Africa, China, Finland, South Korea, Sweden, and Trinidad, and; WHEREAS, Dr. Sharon M. Kolb was instrumental in building and coordinating the Sweden student teaching program by fostering a strong partnership with the Umea University, Sweden, leading to over 105 student participants under her leadership. She facilitated five international visits with Sweden Faculty at UW-Whitewater involving a total of 20 participants, updated the Umea-Whitewater exchange agreement, created the first Umea Counseling Fieldwork exchange in Wisconsin, conducted over 17 in person and virtual lectures at Umea University since 2008, and; WHEREAS, Dr. Sharon M. Kolb has advanced the field of special education and qualitative research through 16 evidence-based publications that have accumulated over 1,296 literary citations, 45 international, national, regional, and local presentations, including 4 keynote presentations in Accra, Ghana, Africa; Leicester, United Kingdom; Umea, Sweden; Wisconsin Dells, United States, and;

Kolb inspired her students to be agents of change to promote self-efficacy, self-determination, and inclusive practices to enhance career development and future outcomes for individuals with and without disabilities world-wide, and; WHEREAS, Dr. Sharon M. Kolb launched and implement the SPECED4U online special education degree program in 2019, teaching 22 different courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in the department of Special Education, and WHEREAS, Dr. Sharon M. Kolb received 2010 Audrey Z. McClellan Endowed Teacher of Distinction Award in the College of Education and Professional Studies, including nominations in 2004, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020; the 2010 and 2020 W.P. Roseman Excellence in Teaching Award (COEPS) nominee; Service Award Recipient in 2011; The Division of Career Development Outstanding Service Award, Council for Exceptional Children, in 2013, thus recognizing her commitment to the department, college, university, and the profession, and; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Faculty Senate of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater congratulates Professor Sharon M. Kolb on her retirement and endorses the Department of Special Educations’ request that she be awarded the rank of Professor Emerita with all the attendant rights and privileges that accompany this particular status for our most distinguished colleague, and; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we, the faculty and staff of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater extend our best wishes for a retirement filled with adventures, health, and happiness to Dr. Sharon M.
