The Impact Of Remuneration On The Workplace Essay
It is universally acknowledged that remuneration is the key to drive the employees to be more
productivity, enhance job satisfaction as well as the direction that determines the organizational
behaviour of one. In the early 1900s, Taylor (1903) suggested that financial incentives were significant
in improving efficiency of workers. However, the role of money has been revealed that it is not the
sole factor to improve worker performance, while other factors need to be considered, as such human
relations and social networks in the workplace, it is evident that these have become more important
nowadays. Motivation defined by Kreitner (1995) is the process that gives behaviour purpose and
direction. It is also defined as psychological drives which determine the behaviour, amount of effort
put and degree of persistence in the face of obstacles (Kanfer 1990). Motivation contains both intrinsic
and extrinsic sources (Weddell et al. 2013 p228). Intrinsically motivated behaviours are driven for self
interest whereby extrinsically motivated behaviour is performed to satisfy own materiality or social
rewards or to avoid punishment (Weddell et al. 2013 p228). According to Herzberg s motivation
theory (1968), intrinsic to work mainly promotes job content which includes responsibilities,
recognition, achievement, the work itself, growth and advancement, extrinsic, on the other hand, refers
to the context of the job which includes pay, company policy, administrative and so on. It is

Interpretation Of The Progressive Era
The progressive era is one of the most researched times in American history due to the multiple social
and economic movements that took place. When historians argue about progressivism, they are not
just debating about events of a century ago, they are struggling to interpret the basic meaning of
American democracy. The progressive era is a widely debated topic among many historians. It is
known as a time period that consisted of economic, political, social, and moral reforms. In summary
the progressive era consisted of businessmen seeking to prevent increased government regulation by
supporting weak federal laws, women wanting equal rights such as the right to vote, religious
gatherings trying to prohibit alcohol consumption, and high society optimists attempting to help the
poorer classes. The reformists were a free union covering all levels of government that upheld
political, monetary, and social changes. In the book Interpretations of American History, authors
Kathryn Kish Sklar and Daniel T. Rodgers discuss their interpretation of the progressive movement.
Ms. Sklar s article is named The Historical Foundations of Women s Power in the Creation of the
American Welfare State 1880 1920. Mr. Rodgers article is called from Atlantic Crossings: Social
Politics in a Progressive Age [1998]. Sklar and Rodgers discuss their different views of the
progressive era and what they believe were the causes, consequences, and meanings of events during
the 1880s throughout the 1920s.

The Importance Of The Older Generation
I will probably upset ninety percent of the population over the age of thirty with my next statement, so
with that said, I over my life time have come to believe there are many lessons older generations can
learn from mine; also referred to as the millennials. My generation consists of anyone born from 1995
2005, and there is no shortage of criticism from the older population on our faults and life choices.
Every move forward my generation seems to make is met with a huge wave of resistance coming from
the rest of the citizens in America. This is where if the older generations were willing to give our
unconventional ways just a second of attention they may be surprised and learn a thing or two from us
growing up in this era. Some of the main things I believe they could benefit from learning from us is
the fact that technology is not going anywhere and they should learn to love it as it continues to
advance. They should not measure their life success based on money but instead of happiness and how
complete they feel within themselves. No one should get too busy with work or stressed over living
that they forget it is fine to relax and have fun every now and then. Another big lesson is they could
learn to be more open minded and accepting of everyone around them, including everyone in the
LGBTQ+ community as well as people of different races. My generation is also a lot more cynical
than the older population which usually comes with a negative connotation but I believe you

Alexis Conso Research Paper
March was a busy month on Harper 2 but that didn t stop Alexis Fregoso. During the month of March
Alexis showed some great leadership by helping other residents on the floor study. Also Alexis was a
great advocate for my St. Patrick s Day event. He helped advertise it by word of mouth to a good
majority of my residents. Alexis has always shown support of my programs and he has nearly attended
every single one. Alexis is such a wonderful asset to my floor and he always brings such a bubbly and
interesting personality. He is great to have ad events especially one s I would like to get more
attendance to. Alexis also is a great role model to others on the floor. He frequently will go around and
check up on everyone to make sure they are okay and having a good day. I ve noticed that if he sees

Well Alexis is your guy. Alexis knows a great deal about cars and he has helped countless of my
residents with their car troubles. Not only has he helped my residents, he has also helped me. A couple
days before spring break, I decided to change the spark plugs in my car. Even though Alexis had three
tests the week before spring break he still was able to help me with my car. He really puts others
above himself. Another thing I love about Alexis is that he won t just leave you high and dry in a time
of need. When we changed the spark plugs in my car we must have smashed a valve because my car
could not be driven. By the time we noticed this problem it was time to go home for spring break. Not
only did Alexis go out of his way to help me change my spark plugs and help me figure out my
problem, he also drove me two hours home so I could enjoy my spring break with my family. He then
picked me and took me back to school at the conclusion of spring break. I couldn t thank him enough
for this wonderful deed he performed for me. I am very grateful I have Alexis on my floor as a

Remember The Blind Side
Football inspires people in many different ways. It can help them achieve a goal, finish school, have a
sense of belonging, and even bring a community together. These are the key elements that Boaz Yakin,
director of Remember the Titans, and John Lee Hancock, director of The Blind Side, thought of when
they popularized their stories into films. While you can find both movies in the Drama/ Sport section,
each of the movies has their unique qualities that draw us into the real life stories of these young men.
Roger Ebert, movie critic, who reviewed Remember the Titans, stated, Real life is never simple, but
then that s what the movies are for to improve on life, and give it the illusion of form and purpose.

You can see this happen when Michael is interviewed as to why he made his school decision. The
theme of these two movies are similar yet have slight differences that convey different times in
history. In Remember the Titans, racial discrimination is the theme that the whole movie revolves
around. As the setting is Virginia 1971, the early days of mandated desegregation laws, this film plays
around with showing the difficulties of merging two different races, communities, and schools.
Similarly in The Blind Side, racial discrimination is one of the major themes that the movie addresses.
While in a different time period, the same treatment is shown to main character, Michael. The setting
being in the south, creates a different dimension of racial discrimination that is stereotypical of the
southern united states. Coupled with racial discrimination is the theme of the kindness of family. This
being the second of the major themes, when michael finds a family that welcomes him with open arms
he dismisses it at first, but then grows to love having the support he has secretly wished for his entire

French Migration To Australia
Migration in a globalized society is no longer determine by the dichotomy of push and pull factors.
Many people who re looking to migrate for a multitude of reasons and likewise governments
throughout the world are looking to bring in people who add to the labour market and for cultural
exchange purposes. I interviewed my French neighbour Pierre. His decision to move Australia on a
working holiday visa (417 visa) was a combination of a desire to explore the world, find employment
and that Australia was a willing participant for his migration. Pierre has discovered cultural
differences, namely an openly casually racist society and the realities of a labour based migration
system. Pierre s migration experience has similar characteristics ... Show more content on

Pierre has straddled the positive and negative aspects of the visa program. He has been able to find
work in his field relatively easily however he has not be immune to the exploitation of foreign workers
by employers seeking to minimize their wages by hiring 417 visa workers. A 7:30 Report story by
Matt Peacock investigated the systematic exploitation of Taiwanese backpackers at a meat works
owned by small goods manufacturer Primo. Setup at a distance by labour hire companies, 90% of the
work force are on working holiday visas. They are pressured to use ABN s so the company can hire
them as independent contractors and not pay them the award wage, super contributions or meet the
working conditions required under the award. Therefore the workers are made to work unreasonable
hours but have little power to refuse the work as many need the money to continuing living abroad.
Pierre faced similar yet not as draconian conditions at his first job as chef in Melbourne. Paid under
$20 an hour, he was made to work double the working week, of up to 80 hours a week, without breaks
doing 12 hour shifts. Many workers on the 417 visas find it difficult to refuse unfair conditions, as the
length of their stay is dependent on finding

Pros And Cons Of Whaling
Do you agree with the Norwegian and Japanese position on permitting the hunting of non endangered
species of whales as a cultural exemption? I do not agree with the Norwegian and Japanese position
on permitting the hunting of non endangered species of whales as a cultural exemption because I just
don t approve of whaling in general. I can however see their point. For the majority of a population in
a village to depend upon whaling as their main income and/or food source would be really difficult if
it was banned. It would be a nice thing if their governments could help with job rehabilitation. Maybe
even offer incentives to change their business venture. I feel like whaling is an archaic practice these
days with so many other options to take place of the stuff harvested. Do you think the whaling ban
constitutes a violation of these nations sovereignty? I do not think the whaling ban constitues a
violation of these nations sovereignty because the ocean and its bountiful resources do not belong to
any one country. It is the planets as a whole. It is the same principal for the oil spills and other
populations and over hunting or needless killings that take place. You are not only affecting your

They should brought before a world committee. I do believe they should present their case before an

Embracing change and adapting to a new environment is never an effortless endeavor, especially as a

cultures. Constant movement can affect our perceptions of how we view our current surroundings,

about his home life, growing up in seven different countries, his big moves, and his views on
immigration policy in America. Discovering more about Jonathan and the multitude of countries he s

Living in a new country that is not of your native descent can often make a person feel singled out and

with his family and twin brother. Though Jonathan and his brother were both born in Argentina, their
parents were both from Brazil and immigrated to Argentina in the 90s. Growing up a Brazilian in the
city of Córdoba, Jonathan was naturally brought up learning to speak Portuguese from his parents

Brazilian values instead of Argentinian values. At a young age, Jonathan had a sense that he didn t

In his research Rogers identified six elements which are necessary in a counselling relationship for
therapeutic change or growth to occur. Three of these elements are closely associated with the
personal qualities which the counsellor brings to their relationship with clients. These are now
famously referred to as the core conditions. The first of these core conditions is empathy, which has
been described as the ability to feel what it s like to walk in someone else s shoes, and is very different
from sympathy, as this touching animation explains. The second condition is referred to as
Unconditional Positive Regard (UPR) and it is perhaps closely related to unconditional love. UPR is

STRENGTHS OF GESTALT APPROACH
1. It relies on creative efforts
The client in relation to the therapist uses the links and connections aided through psychotherapy and
counseling in finding out new and creative solutions to otherwise seemingly closed ended problems.
2. It has respect for the issues of client in context
The emotional and psycho social issues of client are addressed in a way suited to context of the
problem. As this approach believes in problem in relation to context.
3. It helps the client to find own ways to solve a problem by linking the emotional barriers and issues
The client is able to track the trajectory from past to present and how various down links are
connected and where are the actual issues.
4. It is more caring and supportive
This approach is social in nature and cares for the client in a comprehensive and thorough manner
instead of tracking spots and blaming singular behaviors.
5. It has more social responsibility
Gestalt also is a more socially responsible approach as it helps the therapist to aid the treatment of
client on a bigger level with motives to improve the overall life and its interests.

The Goal By Eliyahu M. A Brief
I chose to read the book, The Goal by Eliyahu M. Goldratt. The book is about a plant manager, Alex
Rogo, who is trying to save his plant from getting shut down by using the help of physicist, Jonah, and
the Theory of Constraints. I can see the benefits of this book in different areas, not only in the ability
to increase productivity in any company, but also using the ideas in all other areas of your life. I
personally had a difficult time understanding this book. It took me reading it, then going back and re
reading part of it, to really understand how to apply the concepts. However, I do finally get it. The two
key things that I enjoyed about the book are dependent events in relation to statistical fluctuations and
bottlenecks vs non bottlenecks. When reading the chapter about dependent events in relation to
statistical fluctuations , Goldratt use the example of a Boy Scouts hiking trip, where the slowest boy
was in the back, and one of the faster boys were in the front. One would think that this was a great
idea and would help them get to their destination fast, but in reality it did the exact opposite. It made
the process much slower, because the boy in the front set the pace for the rest of the group, but
because the rest of the group had slower paces, they were unable to keep up with the demand, if you
will, which resulted in a gap in the line. These gaps in the line caused the last person in the line, which
happened to be Alex, to have to wait on the rest of

Six Recommendation on Motivation theory
The Goal of this Article is to analyse the various Motivation Theories for employees in the workplace
environment. It attempts not to just present yet another theory of work motivation, rather focusing on
metatheory which is the processes through which we can build more valid, more complete and more
practical theories.
The authors of this article have drafted six recommendations that they believe and feel that are the
best. It is in their view a combination of facts that can lead to better understanding of employee
motivation factors and effective methods of management.

The article gives the examples of Jack Welch CEO of General Electric who was the first to coin the
term boundary less organisation as a result of frustrations that knowledge that was not shared between
the myriads of divisions at GE. According to this line of thinking it is clear that work motivation
theory needs to be extended and further developed within areas other than isolated task performance
settings. Motivation theory should be applied in a Individual employee point of view as well as a team
point of view. This is due to the fact that some issues might occur in a group setting but not be a issue
when it s dealing with a single employee. For example the article refers to Social Loafing that is a
occurrence that is sometimes seen in a group situation. As managers or leaders its important to gather
knowledge from these different settings and the challenges, but be mindful not to generalise these
experiences. They can be situation specific.
In my own personal work experiences I find the lack of knowledge and experience sharing very
frustrating. I have noticed that during my time at my current organisation sharing of knowledge and
Interaction of ideas between departments have decreased remarkably. I can understand the frustrations
felt by Jack Welch CEO of GE since I strive to share and merge knowledge and see it as essential to
the organisation and employees when

The Journey Of Cultural Practices
Framework Overview
Although referred to as the competing values framework the mainstay of this theory is to recognize
the many dynamics aspects it takes in managerial personnel to effectively operate a financially sound
organization. Although sufficient in describing the four differencing administration styles, controller,
competitor, creator and the clan leader, this framework limits itself by conflicting each value as
independently working against one another instead of encompassing a wraparound approach as used
in Public Health, seen in (appendix A) where more fluid dynamics interplay in both the internal and
external aspects of the agency providing for more client centered, population focused, community
based services through well matched system approaches. Of note, not one of the four identified
approaches has been proven to be more effective than another, however in totality, much like an
interdisciplinary team approach to services, when incorporated equally, each skill set complements the
overall goal of the agency.
Organizational Leadership The Journey of Cultural Practices in End of Life Care initiative is a
program under the umbrella of public health and as such reports the stakeholders formed of by the
Board of Commissioners. The program coordinator is the current hospice social worker who will
instill a less formal style of governance, according to the by laws of the agency. Unlike the hierarchal
and marketing approach of public health, which focuses on the

Imagery In Tasteless By David Sedaris
Imagery and details, diction, and humor are three of David Sedaris most important tools in his writing.
When reading a piece of his, those three things are what jumps out at you right away. His use of
detailed descriptions create vivid images in the readers mind. This helps to tell his story in a clever
and humorous way. In his article, Tasteless , he creates images relating to food and his inability to
taste or appreciate differences between foods. One of his first great uses of imagery and detail comes
when he compares himself to a convict and the way he eats. He first compares himself to a shoveler
and then goes on to say, It s how a prisoner might eat, one arm maneuvering the fork and the other
encircling the plate like a fence (Sedaris

Anansi And Brother Death By Audrey Krisbergh
Anansi and Brother death is an African folklore tale, about the spider trickster Anansi encountering
Brother Death. Anansi discovers an old man sitting outside of a house one day. Anansi, being thirsty
asks the old man if he can enter his home and have a drink of water. The old man stays totally silent.
Anansi takes it upon himself then, to enter the home, drink some water and help himself to any food
he pleases. He leaves the home, thanking the old man for his hospitality. The next day Anansi returns,
and once more takes what water and food he desires, after the old man says nothing to him. On the
third day, he brings one of his daughters with him and tells the old man that the girl is now the old
man s wife. Anansi tells his daughter to go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that a being as powerful as Death itself is punished with failure and embarrassment because
of his desire to capture Anansi, to take revenge on the Spider for his abuse of Brother Death s home, is
a powerful moral message. It illustrates how revenge can cost the person seeking it even more than the
person they wish to get revenge on.
Greed and it s risk towards yourself and those you care about, the exploitation of silence as
permission, and the fact that revenge can be a dangerous thing to seek out are very complex lessons
that would be next to impossible to explain to a child. Anansi s popularity in african lore, his trickster
nature and his punishment from Brother Death, along with the punishment dealt upon Brother Death,
play a very strong message to the audience, and allow these complex moral ideals to be conveyed in

section I will be addressing the surroundings; establish a foundation , and illuminate some background
on this story. The next part of my essay will be focusing on the conflict and how the setting
demonstrates the tension between the main characters. The final section will focus on the resolution,
how the lack of change in the setting is symbolic, and has a deeper meaning.

Essay Napoleon Bonaparte
Napoleon was born on August 15th, 1769 in Ajaccio (Capital of Corsica) which is an island 70 miles
west of Italy. His parents were Carlo Bonaparte and Letizia Ramolino. They got married when Carlo
was 18 and Letizia was 14, this was in 1764. Letizia was the one who was always putting food on the
table, Carlo was way to lazy. His father was interested in politics.
Napoleon got sent to military school (Brienne Military Academy) in 1778. He hated it; his peers were
constantly making fun of him. They mostly made fun of him for being a Corsican; this would make
him love his homeland more. Because of the young men constantly making fun of him he would get

1788, when he was supposed to be sent to return to duty he actually got sent to the Artillery Training
School at Auxonne. During that year he learned all he needed to know about cannons. The more he
learned about them, the more he liked them. He called them Engines of Death which protected the
brave soldiers. He studied many books about war, geology, and other subjects. His favorite book was
the Social Contract written in 1762 by Jean Jacques Rousseau. Because of this book he hoped for a
constitution limiting the kings power and guaranteeing people rights. Which is ironic because
Napoleon would later be a dictator and the book is based on aristocracies and democracies.

was rolling pellets of dirt from between his toes and flicking them at anyone who came in his range.

were always buying expensive jewelry and expensive dresses. Nobles were also treated very well.

Libertarian Feminism Essay
The word feminist has caused turmoil wherever it is uttered. It has gained a negative connotation, and
is often mistaken with misandry. While these claims may be true for a minimal number of feminists,
the truth is that in order to get an accurate representation on what feminists actually believe one would
have to go to the source. The two main problems with that, are that first of all, it is not rigidly
structured or led by a single figure or group , and most importantly there is not just one kind of
feminism, there are hundreds in each aspect of our life (Tavaana, 2014). The most under represented
group within feminism is the kind that is in the government. Not all have the same theories, and
therefore, do not have the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Libertarian feminists claim that the root of female oppression lies in women s ability to bear children
(Gibbs, 2006, p.g 71 93). Liberal feminists on the other hand focus on personal and political
autonomy, and see the root of female oppression to be the existence of gender roles. Among all these
different kind of feminism, a single political agenda binds them together, a common purpose; gender
equality. Like most things, there are misconceptions about certain subjects. For example the media
tends to focus on feminist extremist, and (knowingly or unknowingly) perpetuates the stereotype that
feminists hate men, and that their agenda includes the eventual societal elevation above men. Nothing
could be further from the truth since the actual definition of feminism is, The advocacy of women s
rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men. (Oxford Dictionary, 2014).
Here we see that it is not a competition to the top of the pyramid, rather it is an effort to join the sexes
in equality. The problem that arises from the definition is the lack of explanation of the methods, and
ideologies, and that is breeding ground for speculation and therefore misconceptions. The solution to
this problem is simple; we must acknowledge that there are different methods employed by different
women to reach equality. The famous televangelist, Pat Robertson had this to say about feminism in
his letter to an equal rights amendment to the

Using Forensic Science to Identify Criminals Essay example
Using Forensic Science to Identify Criminals
Rape, murder, theft, and other crimes almost always leave a devastating mark on the victim. More
often than not, it would be impossible to identify the perpetrator a crime without forensic science and
the technology it uses. Forensic science allows investigators to unmask the secrets of the crime scene.
Evidence gathered at the crime scene helps to identify the guilty party, murder weapon, and even the
identity of the victim (Harkawy, 1991: 276). The new technologies enables the forensic experts to
have better and faster access to accumulated information, to be more accurate in the identification of
victims or delinquents, and minimizes the possibility of wrongful accusations. New technology ...

Computerized databases allow unskilled police officers to search the national database of footwear for
important information, such as shoe manufactures, or evidence that links the footprint to marks from
other crimes scenes. This footwear database enables the investigating officers to gather evidence
against the accused much faster and it is also saves precious time ( May, 1993:18). One of the oldest
forms of identification is the use of fingerprints and with the use of today s technology, many
corporations can use this type of technology to help prevent various frauds. For example, in the mid
1990 s Metro Toronto s Human Services Committee (MTHSC) proposed the use of a finger scanning
system in order to prevent welfare fraud. People applying for welfare would have to place their index
finger on a scanner. If their prints did not match those of someone already receiving benefits, they
would be eligible for a debit card, which would allow them to withdraw monthly payments from any
bank machine. This type of technology is not in use just yet, but it is available and would minimize
welfare fraud (Sternbergh, 1996: 64). Computers are also highly used in forensic science. For instance,

Alexander The Great Fusion
Alexander The Great World Conqueror
Alexander III of Macedon, known as Alexander the Great was the son of the king, Philip II of
Macedon. Alexander went on to conquer the largest western empire of the ancient world, after
becoming king at 20 when his father passed away. Alexander was interested in fusing the East and the
West for his new empire, which started with him and his army marching into the capital of Persia,
Persepolis, in 330 BC where they remained for roughly four months. Alexander originally allowed his
men to loot and kill as they liked, allowing many natives to be killed.
After everything had settled Alexander made it clear to everyone that he had intended to adopt a
policy of fusion, where he didn t want to destroy Persia and replace it with the Macedonian rule, he
instead wanted to combine the two kingships of Persia and Macedonia. This was the beginning of his
policy of fusion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this event, ninety weddings had taken place, where Macedonian men married Persian women. The
reasoning of these weddings were that the next generation of children would be exactly one half
Macedonian and one half Persian, being the final establishment of his policy of fusion. Alexander
paired up his companions with the daughters of Persian noblemen. Alexander also took part in this
ceremony, marrying Stateira II (also known as Barsine) whom was the eldest daughter of Darius III
Codomannus, the previous king before Alexander took over his throne. Alexander also married
Stateira s cousin Parysatis II, who was the youngest daughter of Artaxerxes III who was also
previously king of Persia. In doing this, Alexander had cemented his place within the royal family of
the Achaemenid Empire. Alexander then gave Stateira s younger sister Drypetis, to his close
companion, Hephaestion, as he wanted their children to be legitimate

Diversity At A Young Age
Diversity is a very common word used in today s society. There is a lot of different categories of
diversity that a person can fall under. Diversity can be defined by different races, ethnicity,
socioeconomics, disabilities, giftedness, gender, sexual orientation, and many more. A human being
can fall under one of these categories or even more than one. In the world around us, everybody is
different in their own way. Diversity plays a huge part in breaking certain people in different
categories. When a human being is born they only have a short amount of time until they start noticing
differences in others. Children have a huge impact on diversity at a young age. When a child first
starts school, they are around many different students. Some of the students may never have seen
another child with a different skin color or a disability. Every child has an opinion and it is up to us
future teachers to express the importance of accepting everyone for who they are. When people think
of diversity the most common thing that comes to mind is race. On earth there is not just one race.
Around the world people are categorized as being white, African American, Asian, Native American,
and Native Hawaiian. There is also an ethnicity of spanish origin which is called Hispanic or Latino.
In schools, there might be a wide range of children who are different races. Different races in schools
can lead to an impact on the school and classroom environment. Over the years in America, race has

The Importance Of The Arts At School
Importance of the Arts in School
People often view artistic activities as a leisure activity, so though they may agree it is a nice thing to
have, they may not think it is essential to a person s life. It is the same for schools, with tight budgets,
art is usually the first subject cut from a student s learning experience because it is not viewed as a
priority. However, with all of the academic benefits students can gain from being involved in any type
of art subject, it is important that schools allow students an easy access to art. By making art programs
more prominent, schools would be offering students a chance to improve academic performance,
increase happiness, and open up minds.
Though art is mostly viewed as a hobby, it benefits children academically. One way art helps academic
performance is by strengthening students brains. The principal of Lyons Elementary School explained
the Opening Minds through Art program (OMA) helped teach children concepts through art that
would later help them learn more in different subjects (Smith). Art can improve students
understanding of learning concepts, which will help them in different subjects in the future. artistic
activities engage senses and make neural connections in the brain. The more neural pathways created
and the stronger the become, the easier it becomes for the brain to take in new information. With a
stronger brain and mental capacity, students performance in school with improve. Academically, art is

A Long Way Gone Freedom Analysis
Since the beginning of A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah, the protagonist of the novel Ishmael
endeavors to flee from the hardships enkindled by the RUF rebel organization that has amalgamated
the country of Sierra Leone, officially making it a war zone. Moreover, for more than two years
Ishmael has attempted to escape from the rebels, moving from village to village, rummaging through
abandoned homes. Seemingly, the rebels would make their way to Ishmael, sweeping all villages.
Deprived of food or any sign of hope surviving as a lone wolf , Ishmael enlisted in the Army of Sierra
Leone to fight against the radical organization. Ishmael risked his life for the prime purpose of
surviving and to pursue freedom. Furthermore, self determination was one of the reasons for such
bravery, but it was also due to specific objects that aided in Ishmael s journey for freedom.
Nonetheless, in his literary work, A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier, Ishmael Beah uses
symbols to underscore his central theme of oppression and/or freedom. The most evident symbols that
accentuate the theme of oppression and/or freedom are the moon, the rap cassette tape, and the AK 47.
The moon s role in Ishmael s journey is very prominent, as it exhibits the theme of freedom also
oppression in the novel. When Ishmael is in dire need of comfort he looks to the moon for help when
struggling to survive the civil war alone. Furthermore, the moon for many in Sierra Leone portray the

Green Light Symbolism In The Great Gatsby
Baz Luhrmann portrays many symbols in the film, The Great to show the motivation and fate of Jay
Gatsby. The text itself is constructed using many symbols, which are incorporated to highlight
different elements of the film s message. The three major symbols in the film are the Green Light, the
Eyes from the Valley of Ashes and finally the Parties, which Gatsby frequently hosts.
Probably the most noticeable symbol in the film is the green light, which is situated at the end of
Daisy s dock but barely visible from Gatsby s dock. Gatsby is often depicted gazing into the distance
at the green light. Luhrmann positions Gatsby in this way because the green light represents hope and
his dreams for the future. Therefore it is evident that Gatsby ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However the green light represents Gatsby s dream of Daisy and how they would live as they had

past, which is not what Daisy wants within the social context of their relationship it is clear that the
green light on a broader scale represents society s near impossible desire to achieve the insatiable goal
of the American Dream.
Another symbol that features regularly throughout the film is the large eyes painted on the old
advertising billboard overlooking the Valley of Ashes. These are the eyes of Dr. T. J. Eckleburg. The
eyes may represent God or another higher being looking down upon America judging the society for
the loss of spiritual values that it has attained. An example of the loss of spiritual values is in the
character of Tom Buchanan as he is constantly committing adultery and discriminating against people
on their heritage and ancestral background. Jay Gatsby is also an example of the decay in morality as
he deals in illegal activities such as selling alcohol to fuel his

War Of A Reasonable Patriotism, By George Kateb, And...
A person has absolutely no choice in what country he or she is born in, yet it is commonly assumed for
one to be proud of that meaningless country, then openly criticized when the expectation is not met.
This sense of superiority over other countries, full of human beings with feelings and desires who are
no different than another s, is nothing more than a division of geographical birth places. Ultimately,
patriotism causes arbitrary detachments between human beings for illogical reasons. It is fueled by
reactionary emotions rather than reason, and although it begins with good intentions, it can also
escalate to catastrophic levels.
To understand the role of patriotism in the modern day, it is helpful to discuss the following articles:
On Patriotism, by George Kateb; In Defense of a Reasonable Patriotism, by William Galston; and
American Patriotism is Unique, by Richard Morris. All three seek to guide readers toward their own
educated opinions regarding the topic, whether that is appreciation or scorn. In George Kateb s article,
he focuses on the philosophical history behind patriotism and refutes arguments that are in support of
it. He likens the love of country to the love one has for his or her parents, and asserts that this
comparison can lead to an exploitable mental confusion (Kateb). Kateb also covers the ideas of
Socrates and Rousseau, who believed that people owe their existence to the state, and points out the
inconsistencies in their theories. He continues the

setting and mood of the journey you take as tones vary from fast and tense in battles to relaxed and

Airlines must be able to make a profit when setting ticket prices. By comparing the demand curve
with the average total cost curves for each airplane type, the airline can determine which size airplane
will maximize profits for a given flight. (Kons, n.d.)
In summary, as with any product, from airline tickets to gasoline prices consumers have continued to
pay the increased fares, so the airlines have become bolder in driving the prices up even further.
(Smith, CNNMoney, 2011) Consumers, their desire, need and want for an item or service will always
affect supply, demand, and cost curve. Most organizations have the same goal, which is to make a
profit while keeping their costumers happy.

The education system in America is stained by racial and structural inequalities that cause those in
lower income areas to not receive the necessary resources that enable a student to thrive. These
benefits are as simple as certified teachers (Turner), maintained classrooms, and even accredited
school districts. The common denominator in the lack of basic expectations is the type of funding
public schools receive. The federal government gives about 10 percent of the money schools have to

After racially restrictive covenants and Federal Housing Administration practices were deemed racist

is punishing him by killing the sailors and making his journey miserable. Just like in the bible,

putting the angles on the earth in the old testament and them not obeying him. As a result of
their disobedience, the angles were sentenced to be rock giants and to roam the earth and to not

believed that they had no creator, ruler, or guider in their life. They all followed and obeyed false
idols. The punishment for that was that the city was going to go up in flames and burn to the

the images will change. For example, in the condition of sufficient light, the color of the grass will

The second disadvantage of background modeling is that if the camera shakes, this will make the

image, which is difficult to extract the features. Based on this reason, it is a kind of disadvantage of

Green Winter Through The Kick Starter Website
In efforts to grow the Seedfolk City Farm, Barker initiated Operation Green Winter through the kick
starter website, Indiegogo. This was a community focused urban agriculture project that helped raise
funds to continue operating the greenhouses during the winter. It also enabled them to provide
consistent year round after school employment for four of the young people that helped to get the
project off the ground. This campaign was in addition to several community events held in efforts to
raise money for the green winter . This was as a result of weather implications in Rochester, NY,
which prevented them from growing fresh fruits and vegetables. The pilot aquaponic farming system
would winterize the greenhouse by sustaining a year round farming operation that enabled them to
triple production capabilities with four new vertical grow beds. Not only did the money raised help
physically make these changes possible, but it also provided the youth with more after school
activities as a result of these expansions.
ProsperRochester has relied on its partnerships to achieve its goals. In order to establish these
greenhouses, ProsperRochester teamed up with In The City/Off The Grid. ICOG is a Rochester based
cooperative business that offers solar installation services and general construction services, while
engaging in community development projects and employee training. Thankfully, ICOG was able to
assist with building and provide solar panels for the greenhouses.

Promoting Universal Design Of Learning
The cast website was designed to give teachers, and future teachers some tools on how to better teach
their students. It also helps promote the use of a learning curriculum design called the Universal
Design of Learning also known as (UDL). One other thing about the website it looks like it was
designed to be of easy use, and easy access of the materials that are on the site. A reason that the
website is promoting Universal Design of Learning is so that teachers can reach all of their students
learning types, while only having to teach a subject one time rather than multiple times. Some other
reasons why this program is important for teachers to know about is that according to the cast website
CAST researches and develops innovative solutions to make education more inclusive and effective
(cast.org, 2015). An important thing to know is it allows teachers more ways of differentiating in their
classrooms, so that they can make sure to get all of their students learning needs met when they are
teaching their classes. It is important to know because according to the website it is researchers are
working to:
Develop promising approaches for increasing the accessibility and potential effectiveness of online
learning for students with disabilities. These may include accessibility and support features for online
learning, providing supplementary offline resources, individualizing online learning, identifying and
addressing student learning problems as soon as possible, and

The Murder Of Innocent Civilians
America has always been depicted as an amiable place to live in. Generally, foreigners would picture
America as the perfect place to raise a family and lead a joyous life. In their mind, the idea of the
perfect fifties family household still holds true. Nevertheless, this image was quickly shattered, as the
adverse and hostile environment that surrounded them proved to be more difficult than imagined. One
of the biggest mistakes that they failed to recognize was the atrocious, random, murder of innocent
civilians. These murders were frequently published on the front page of every major newspaper, which
led to the development of an insatiable interest in the demise of others. This is true in the nineteenth

Leopold is described as a highly skilled scholar, but is a social recluse due to his hormonal
abnormalities. Loeb, on the other hand, is handsome and societal. Nevertheless, he possesses a sinister
side, his love for the life of crime. The film revolves around four main characters, Brandon Shaw,
Phillip Morgan, Rupert Cadell, and the victim, David Kentley. Brandon and Phillip pertain to New
York s elite class and are intelligent, sophisticated men. Rupert, being a philosopher of sorts, instills
the idea of Friedrich Nietzsche s übermensch upon Brandon and Phillip. Thus, this drives them to kill
their former classmate, David. While Hitchcock explains the philosophical motive of the murder,
author Miriam Allen deFord in her work, Superman s Crime: Loeb and Leopold, depicts Leopold and
Loeb as criminal masterminds and illustrates their heinous act as well as specific details of their trial.
She rarely includes any details regarding the mindset of the two teenagers as well as the ethics behind
their murder. Whereas the true crime article, written by deFord, focuses more on the actions
committed by the perpetrators, the Hitchcock focuses on the psychological aspects of each character
and the philosophy behind the killing. As such, the film surpasses the article on almost every level.
Throughout Hitchcock s film, the philosophical idea of Übermensch is prevalent and openly discussed
by the characters. This controversial theory

Broken Family
Chapter I Problem and Its Setting Introduction Family is the basic components of the society. And the
researcher believes that the number one ingredients on youth s happy life are their family, that the
parents are the most important source of youth s behavior, which effect to their outlook in life. So if
the parents are separated, how does it affect the youth and what can they do about it? When parents
split up, there can be many emotions that a youth may have to deal with. These feelings, internalized
or expressed, will result in certain behavior that will possibly affect to the youth s outlook in life.

These children were also at higher risk for smoking, using drugs and consuming alcohol. Teenagers
from non intact families were more likely to be sexually active and had higher rates of pregnancy.
Girls from broken homes were at greatest risk for teenage pregnancy. The study also found that
children who were in a single parent or step parent home by the time they were ten were more than
twice as likely to be arrested by age 14. Children who never lived with their own father had the
highest likelihood of being arrested.[5] According to Patrick F. Fagan, Ph. D. that the children living
with the single mother are six times more likely to live in poverty than are children whose parents are
married.[6] According to Dr. Verna Hildebrand parenting involves many commitments and
responsibilities. Perhaps the greatest of this is helping a child develop a positive self concept and high
self esteem. With these assets, a child will be better able to make wise decisions, relate well to others,
and assume responsibilities for his or her life.[7] Conceptual Framework [pic] Figure 1 The paradigm
shows that both family, broken and complete, may affect the youth s outlook in life in relation to:
faith, family, moral, marriage, behavior towards others, decision making. Statement of the Problem

Birth of a Nation film critique
D. W. Griffith was raised on a Kentucky farm in Crestwood, with his father, his mother, and sister. His
father was a colonel in the Confederate Army, and served Kentucky as a state legislator. His family
raised him Methodist, and his sister did his schooling in a one room schoolhouse. At the age of 10, his
father died and his mother left the farm to move to Louisville, Kentucky. They struggled with poverty
after that, and he eventually got into acting and filmmaking. He started off as an actor when his first
screenplay was rejected. However, he started working with a production company called Biograph,
and soon became the main director. However, his intentions and budget did not match up with
Biograph s ideas and motives, so he left ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he tries to express his sexuality towards her, she brushes him off, which further enforces the
idea that the free blacks are over sexualized. The biggest sense of loyalty from Mammy we see is
when she tries to protect her master from union soldiers arresting him for being in the Ku Klux Klan.
Gus, the Union Solider, seems to be best associated with brute and coon tendencies, which is
characterized by his sexuality towards Flora. The union soldiers in general represent the brutal buck
character type because they are seen as violent, uncontrollable and sexualized in the film. Gus, also
has coon tendencies, however, in the way his character expresses himself. His eyes are very big and
full of expression, and seem to be laughed at a lot. He is used as comic relief in addition to his role as
an instigator to the Ku Klux Klan. When he comes onto Flora, he is overly sexual and aggressive
towards her. He seems to be out of control as soon as the interaction starts, and ends with a chasing
scene through the forest. This goes along with the Moonlight and Magnolia theme that white women
are the epitome of beauty, and how frail and delicate they seem. Silas Lynch is also depicted as overly
aggressive in his pursuit and proposal to Elsie Stoneman. This represents the fear of miscegenation, as
well as rape. The skewed view promotes the domination of women through portrayals of white
women and black soldiers. The Stoneman housekeeper, Lydia, is portrayed as a

College Facilites for Division III Athletics Essay
Division III athletics have become more then high school athletes holding onto a dream and
competing at the non scholarship level of the National collegiate athletic association. From 2004 to
2012 the average cost of having a division III athletics program has gone up 200% (Fulks, 2013).
From 2004 until 2012 the average cost per athlete has also gone up, from $3,500 to $5,800. This
money does not even touch the levels that are being spent in Division I, but Division III athletics are
on an upward trend of spending. The commitment to athletics in Division III has lead to money being
spent on new sports and recreation facilities. So much so that it s been put to question if there is an

The point of facilities has been to give the wow factor to visiting prospects. In almost all cases the
facilities at a college will be better then the high school or junior college the student athlete is coming
from. It is also believed that having better facilities will directly correlate with recruiting success,
especially against rival colleges. The belief that new facilities bring in better recruits was tested by the
research into the subject. Although new facilities did attract more initial interest from recruits
(Schneider, 2012) the final decision about which school to attend came down to other different factors.
In the study of The impact of Athletic Faculties on the Recruitment of Student Athletes college athletic
prospects were asked why they choose the college they did. With factors such as playing time,
location, tradition, education, facilities, teammates, and school color to name a few, the results were as
follows. Non Scholarship athletes that had no option to receive finical aid from the school they
planned on attending, like the ones in division III, had top five factors of 1) playing time, 2) social life,
3) Education, 4) Location and 5) Financial Aid. Not until after the top ten did weight room and locker
rooms came into effect. In another study it was shown that scholarship athletes in Division I were
motivated by completion and achievement, while in division III the main motivator to play was the
experience or the social

Napoleon as the Betrayer to the French Revolution Essay...
Napoleon as the Betrayer to the French Revolution
Napoleon Bonaparte has remained one of history s most furiously debated characters. This is because
there has been much speculation and many differing interpretations of his actions as leader of France
from 1799 1815. Most historians tend to have been torn between the portraits of Napoleon as the heir
of the Revolution or as the destroyer of the Revolution s most sacred principles. However, a third
opinion has emerged that suggests that Napoleon made revolutionary ideas practical and therefore
acted as a bridge between the Ancien Regime and the lofty ideals of the Revolution.

Napoleon realised that religion was of great importance to the people of France. He managed to agree
to a Concordat between France and the Pope that recognised Roman Catholicism as France s principle
religion and sees the Pope as the head of the Roman Catholic Church. However, Napoleon managed to
introduce further terms that effectively made France in charge of religion.
The view that supports Napoleon as the defender of the Revolution is Napoleon himself! Emmanuel
de Las Cases, who accompanied Napoleon into exile on St. Helena, was the author of Napoleon s
main biography, The Legend of Napoleon . In his writings, Napoleon became the founder of the
Revolution and the protagonist of its achievements. He preserved the principles of liberty and equality,
confirmed the destruction of feudalism, united the fractions within France and propagated the
principles of the Revolution abroad. In the 1830s and 1840s, the Napoleonic Legend arose in France.
People in France yearned for the excitement and adventure of Napoleon and his legend provided this.
Napoleon actually himself believed that he was the heir to the Revolution and that he made the
principles work for France.
However, many historians view Napoleon differently. They see his reforms for France as increasingly
autocratic. They perceive that the Legend glorified Napoleon

  • 2. The Impact Of Remuneration On The Workplace Essay It is universally acknowledged that remuneration is the key to drive the employees to be more productivity, enhance job satisfaction as well as the direction that determines the organizational behaviour of one. In the early 1900s, Taylor (1903) suggested that financial incentives were significant in improving efficiency of workers. However, the role of money has been revealed that it is not the sole factor to improve worker performance, while other factors need to be considered, as such human relations and social networks in the workplace, it is evident that these have become more important nowadays. Motivation defined by Kreitner (1995) is the process that gives behaviour purpose and direction. It is also defined as psychological drives which determine the behaviour, amount of effort put and degree of persistence in the face of obstacles (Kanfer 1990). Motivation contains both intrinsic and extrinsic sources (Weddell et al. 2013 p228). Intrinsically motivated behaviours are driven for self interest whereby extrinsically motivated behaviour is performed to satisfy own materiality or social rewards or to avoid punishment (Weddell et al. 2013 p228). According to Herzberg s motivation theory (1968), intrinsic to work mainly promotes job content which includes responsibilities, recognition, achievement, the work itself, growth and advancement, extrinsic, on the other hand, refers to the context of the job which includes pay, company policy, administrative and so on. It is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Interpretation Of The Progressive Era The progressive era is one of the most researched times in American history due to the multiple social and economic movements that took place. When historians argue about progressivism, they are not just debating about events of a century ago, they are struggling to interpret the basic meaning of American democracy. The progressive era is a widely debated topic among many historians. It is known as a time period that consisted of economic, political, social, and moral reforms. In summary the progressive era consisted of businessmen seeking to prevent increased government regulation by supporting weak federal laws, women wanting equal rights such as the right to vote, religious gatherings trying to prohibit alcohol consumption, and high society optimists attempting to help the poorer classes. The reformists were a free union covering all levels of government that upheld political, monetary, and social changes. In the book Interpretations of American History, authors Kathryn Kish Sklar and Daniel T. Rodgers discuss their interpretation of the progressive movement. Ms. Sklar s article is named The Historical Foundations of Women s Power in the Creation of the American Welfare State 1880 1920. Mr. Rodgers article is called from Atlantic Crossings: Social Politics in a Progressive Age [1998]. Sklar and Rodgers discuss their different views of the progressive era and what they believe were the causes, consequences, and meanings of events during the 1880s throughout the 1920s. ... • 4. The Importance Of The Older Generation I will probably upset ninety percent of the population over the age of thirty with my next statement, so with that said, I over my life time have come to believe there are many lessons older generations can learn from mine; also referred to as the millennials. My generation consists of anyone born from 1995 2005, and there is no shortage of criticism from the older population on our faults and life choices. Every move forward my generation seems to make is met with a huge wave of resistance coming from the rest of the citizens in America. This is where if the older generations were willing to give our unconventional ways just a second of attention they may be surprised and learn a thing or two from us growing up in this era. Some of the main things I believe they could benefit from learning from us is the fact that technology is not going anywhere and they should learn to love it as it continues to advance. They should not measure their life success based on money but instead of happiness and how complete they feel within themselves. No one should get too busy with work or stressed over living that they forget it is fine to relax and have fun every now and then. Another big lesson is they could learn to be more open minded and accepting of everyone around them, including everyone in the LGBTQ+ community as well as people of different races. My generation is also a lot more cynical than the older population which usually comes with a negative connotation but I believe you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the month of March Alexis showed some great leadership by helping other residents on the floor study. Also Alexis was a great advocate for my St. Patrick s Day event. He helped advertise it by word of mouth to a good majority of my residents. Alexis has always shown support of my programs and he has nearly attended every single one. Alexis is such a wonderful asset to my floor and he always brings such a bubbly and interesting personality. He is great to have ad events especially one s I would like to get more attendance to. Another thing I love about Alexis is that he won t just leave you high and dry in a time of need. When we changed the spark plugs in my car we must have smashed a valve because my car could not be driven. By the time we noticed this problem it was time to go home for spring break. Not only did Alexis go out of his way to help me change my spark plugs and help me figure out my problem, he also drove me two hours home so I could enjoy my spring break with my family. These are the key elements that Boaz Yakin, director of Remember the Titans, and John Lee Hancock, director of The Blind Side, thought of when they popularized their stories into films. While you can find both movies in the Drama/ Sport section, each of the movies has their unique qualities that draw us into the real life stories of these young men. In Remember the Titans, racial discrimination is the theme that the whole movie revolves around. As the setting is Virginia 1971, the early days of mandated desegregation laws, this film plays around with showing the difficulties of merging two different races, communities, and schools. Similarly in The Blind Side, racial discrimination is one of the major themes that the movie addresses. While in a different time period, the same treatment is shown to main character, Michael. The setting being in the south, creates a different dimension of racial discrimination that is stereotypical of the southern united states. Coupled with racial discrimination is the theme of the kindness of family. • 8. French Migration To Australia Migration in a globalized society is no longer determine by the dichotomy of push and pull factors. Many people who re looking to migrate for a multitude of reasons and likewise governments throughout the world are looking to bring in people who add to the labour market and for cultural exchange purposes. I interviewed my French neighbour Pierre. His decision to move Australia on a working holiday visa (417 visa) was a combination of a desire to explore the world, find employment and that Australia was a willing participant for his migration. Pierre has discovered cultural differences, namely an openly casually racist society and the realities of a labour based migration system. He has been able to find work in his field relatively easily however he has not be immune to the exploitation of foreign workers by employers seeking to minimize their wages by hiring 417 visa workers. Setup at a distance by labour hire companies, 90% of the work force are on working holiday visas. They are pressured to use ABN s so the company can hire them as independent contractors and not pay them the award wage, super contributions or meet the working conditions required under the award. Therefore the workers are made to work unreasonable hours but have little power to refuse the work as many need the money to continuing living abroad. Pierre faced similar yet not as draconian conditions at his first job as chef in Melbourne. Paid under $20 an hour, he was made to work double the working week, of up to 80 hours a week, without breaks doing 12 hour shifts. • 9. Pros And Cons Of Whaling Do you agree with the Norwegian and Japanese position on permitting the hunting of non endangered species of whales as a cultural exemption? I do not agree with the Norwegian and Japanese position on permitting the hunting of non endangered species of whales as a cultural exemption because I just don t approve of whaling in general. I can however see their point. For the majority of a population in a village to depend upon whaling as their main income and/or food source would be really difficult if it was banned. It would be a nice thing if their governments could help with job rehabilitation. Maybe even offer incentives to change their business venture. I feel like whaling is an archaic practice these days with so many other options to take place of the stuff harvested. Do you think the whaling ban constitutes a violation of these nations sovereignty? I do not think the whaling ban constitues a violation of these nations sovereignty because the ocean and its bountiful resources do not belong to any one country. It is the planets as a whole. It is the same principal for the oil spills and other populations and over hunting or needless killings that take place. Three of these elements are closely associated with the personal qualities which the counsellor brings to their relationship with clients. These are now famously referred to as the core conditions. The first of these core conditions is empathy, which has been described as the ability to feel what it s like to walk in someone else s shoes, and is very different from sympathy, as this touching animation explains. The second condition is referred to as Unconditional Positive Regard (UPR) and it is perhaps closely related to unconditional love. • 12. The Goal By Eliyahu M. A Brief I chose to read the book, The Goal by Eliyahu M. Goldratt. The book is about a plant manager, Alex Rogo, who is trying to save his plant from getting shut down by using the help of physicist, Jonah, and the Theory of Constraints. I can see the benefits of this book in different areas, not only in the ability to increase productivity in any company, but also using the ideas in all other areas of your life. I personally had a difficult time understanding this book. It took me reading it, then going back and re reading part of it, to really understand how to apply the concepts. However, I do finally get it. The two key things that I enjoyed about the book are dependent events in relation to statistical fluctuations and bottlenecks vs non bottlenecks. When reading the chapter about dependent events in relation to statistical fluctuations , Goldratt use the example of a Boy Scouts hiking trip, where the slowest boy was in the back, and one of the faster boys were in the front. One would think that this was a great idea and would help them get to their destination fast, but in reality it did the exact opposite. It made the process much slower, because the boy in the front set the pace for the rest of the group, but because the rest of the group had slower paces, they were unable to keep up with the demand, if you will, which resulted in a gap in the line. These gaps in the line caused the last person in the line, which happened to be Alex, to have to wait on the rest of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to this line of thinking it is clear that work motivation theory needs to be extended and further developed within areas other than isolated task performance settings. Motivation theory should be applied in a Individual employee point of view as well as a team point of view. This is due to the fact that some issues might occur in a group setting but not be a issue when it s dealing with a single employee. For example the article refers to Social Loafing that is a occurrence that is sometimes seen in a group situation. As managers or leaders its important to gather knowledge from these different settings and the challenges, but be mindful not to generalise these experiences. They can be situation specific. In my own personal work experiences I find the lack of knowledge and experience sharing very frustrating. • 14. The Journey Of Cultural Practices Framework Overview Although referred to as the competing values framework the mainstay of this theory is to recognize the many dynamics aspects it takes in managerial personnel to effectively operate a financially sound organization. Although sufficient in describing the four differencing administration styles, controller, competitor, creator and the clan leader, this framework limits itself by conflicting each value as independently working against one another instead of encompassing a wraparound approach as used in Public Health, seen in (appendix A) where more fluid dynamics interplay in both the internal and external aspects of the agency providing for more client centered, population focused, community based services through well matched system approaches. Of note, not one of the four identified approaches has been proven to be more effective than another, however in totality, much like an interdisciplinary team approach to services, when incorporated equally, each skill set complements the overall goal of the agency. Organizational Leadership The Journey of Cultural Practices in End of Life Care initiative is a program under the umbrella of public health and as such reports the stakeholders formed of by the Board of Commissioners. This helps to tell his story in a clever and humorous way. In his article, Tasteless , he creates images relating to food and his inability to taste or appreciate differences between foods. One of his first great uses of imagery and detail comes when he compares himself to a convict and the way he eats. Greed and it s risk towards yourself and those you care about, the exploitation of silence as permission, and the fact that revenge can be a dangerous thing to seek out are very complex lessons that would be next to impossible to explain to a child. • 19. Libertarian Feminism Essay The word feminist has caused turmoil wherever it is uttered. It has gained a negative connotation, and is often mistaken with misandry. While these claims may be true for a minimal number of feminists, the truth is that in order to get an accurate representation on what feminists actually believe one would have to go to the source. The two main problems with that, are that first of all, it is not rigidly structured or led by a single figure or group , and most importantly there is not just one kind of feminism, there are hundreds in each aspect of our life (Tavaana, 2014). The most under represented group within feminism is the kind that is in the government. Not all have the same theories, and therefore, do not have the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Libertarian feminists claim that the root of female oppression lies in women s ability to bear children (Gibbs, 2006, p.g 71 93). Liberal feminists on the other hand focus on personal and political autonomy, and see the root of female oppression to be the existence of gender roles. Among all these different kind of feminism, a single political agenda binds them together, a common purpose; gender equality. Like most things, there are misconceptions about certain subjects. For example the media tends to focus on feminist extremist, and (knowingly or unknowingly) perpetuates the stereotype that feminists hate men, and that their agenda includes the eventual societal elevation above men. Nothing could be further from the truth since the actual definition of feminism is, The advocacy of women s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men. (Oxford Dictionary, 2014). Here we see that it is not a competition to the top of the pyramid, rather it is an effort to join the sexes in equality. The problem that arises from the definition is the lack of explanation of the methods, and ideologies, and that is breeding ground for speculation and therefore misconceptions. The solution to this problem is simple; we must acknowledge that there are different methods employed by different women to reach equality. Using Forensic Science to Identify Criminals Essay example Using Forensic Science to Identify Criminals Rape, murder, theft, and other crimes almost always leave a devastating mark on the victim. More often than not, it would be impossible to identify the perpetrator a crime without forensic science and the technology it uses. Forensic science allows investigators to unmask the secrets of the crime scene. Evidence gathered at the crime scene helps to identify the guilty party, murder weapon, and even the identity of the victim (Harkawy, 1991: 276). One of the oldest forms of identification is the use of fingerprints and with the use of today s technology, many corporations can use this type of technology to help prevent various frauds. For example, in the mid 1990 s Metro Toronto s Human Services Committee (MTHSC) proposed the use of a finger scanning system in order to prevent welfare fraud. People applying for welfare would have to place their index finger on a scanner. If their prints did not match those of someone already receiving benefits, they would be eligible for a debit card, which would allow them to withdraw monthly payments from any bank machine. This type of technology is not in use just yet, but it is available and would minimize welfare fraud (Sternbergh, 1996: 64). Computers are also highly used in forensic science. A person has absolutely no choice in what country he or she is born in, yet it is commonly assumed for one to be proud of that meaningless country, then openly criticized when the expectation is not met. This sense of superiority over other countries, full of human beings with feelings and desires who are no different than another s, is nothing more than a division of geographical birth places. Ultimately, patriotism causes arbitrary detachments between human beings for illogical reasons. It is fueled by reactionary emotions rather than reason, and although it begins with good intentions, it can also escalate to catastrophic levels. To understand the role of patriotism in the modern day, it is helpful to discuss the following articles: On Patriotism, by George Kateb; In Defense of a Reasonable Patriotism, by William Galston; and American Patriotism is Unique, by Richard Morris. All three seek to guide readers toward their own educated opinions regarding the topic, whether that is appreciation or scorn. In George Kateb s article, he focuses on the philosophical history behind patriotism and refutes arguments that are in support of it. He likens the love of country to the love one has for his or her parents, and asserts that this comparison can lead to an exploitable mental confusion (Kateb). These covenants were typically used to permit the denial of ownership to a black family. Covenants, neighborhood groups, and other types of legislative or physical interference, froze efforts to integrate, forcing black families to live in inadequate housing conditions at absurdly high prices. After racially restrictive covenants and Federal Housing Administration practices were deemed racist and immoral, the damage was already done. Black families living in previously marked red zones could not afford to move out of their segregated and underdeveloped neighborhoods. The public schools in these districts suffered as well because of the decreasing values of the properties and the high concentration of low income residents. The Mariner s punishment for betraying nature by shooting, the Albatross, is his intense agony and misery. The Mariner admits his fault and accepts his penalty; hence he survives with the burden of telling a story rather than facing death. Though there are many advantages about background modeling, there still exists many disadvantages in background modeling method. At first, it must suit the change of environment. Many factors can result in the change of environment, such that illumination. If the illumination changes, the color of the images will change. For example, in the condition of sufficient light, the color of the grass will change from dark green to light green. This change will make the background modeling fails. The second disadvantage of background modeling is that if the camera shakes, this will make the image shake. This campaign was in addition to several community events held in efforts to raise money for the green winter . This was as a result of weather implications in Rochester, NY, which prevented them from growing fresh fruits and vegetables. One of the biggest mistakes that they failed to recognize was the atrocious, random, murder of innocent civilians. Leopold is described as a highly skilled scholar, but is a social recluse due to his hormonal abnormalities. Loeb, on the other hand, is handsome and societal. Nevertheless, he possesses a sinister side, his love for the life of crime. The film revolves around four main characters, Brandon Shaw, Phillip Morgan, Rupert Cadell, and the victim, David Kentley. Brandon and Phillip pertain to New York s elite class and are intelligent, sophisticated men. Rupert, being a philosopher of sorts, instills the idea of Friedrich Nietzsche s übermensch upon Brandon and Phillip. Thus, this drives them to kill their former classmate, David. While Hitchcock explains the philosophical motive of the murder, author Miriam Allen deFord in her work, Superman s Crime: Loeb and Leopold, depicts Leopold and Loeb as criminal masterminds and illustrates their heinous act as well as specific details of their trial. She rarely includes any details regarding the mindset of the two teenagers as well as the ethics behind their murder. Whereas the true crime article, written by deFord, focuses more on the actions committed by the perpetrators, the Hitchcock focuses on the psychological aspects of each character and the philosophy behind the killing. As such, the film surpasses the article on almost every level. Throughout Hitchcock s film, the philosophical idea of Übermensch is prevalent and openly discussed by the characters. Gus, the Union Solider, seems to be best associated with brute and coon tendencies, which is characterized by his sexuality towards Flora. The union soldiers in general represent the brutal buck character type because they are seen as violent, uncontrollable and sexualized in the film. Gus, also has coon tendencies, however, in the way his character expresses himself. His eyes are very big and full of expression, and seem to be laughed at a lot. He is used as comic relief in addition to his role as an instigator to the Ku Klux Klan. When he comes onto Flora, he is overly sexual and aggressive towards her. He seems to be out of control as soon as the interaction starts, and ends with a chasing scene through the forest. This goes along with the Moonlight and Magnolia theme that white women are the epitome of beauty, and how frail and delicate they seem. Silas Lynch is also depicted as overly aggressive in his pursuit and proposal to Elsie Stoneman. This represents the fear of miscegenation, as well as rape. Most historians tend to have been torn between the portraits of Napoleon as the heir of the Revolution or as the destroyer of the Revolution s most sacred principles.
