Analytic Functionalism as a Philosophy of the Mind
In an attempt to bridge the gaps between the philosophy of behaviorism and the identity theory, I
have determined that functionalism presents us with the best solution. Although there are several
concerns to the methodic explanation of mental states, I believe that analytic functionalism is a
credible model that describes the mind. Analytic functionalism establishes an ontological method
that provides more acceptable ways to describe and characterize the mind. I will contend my point
by first explaining the evolution into functionalism, specifically analytic functionalism. I will then
explain one of the most prominent objections, the Chinese Room argument by John Searle. Beyond
this argument, I will offer my rebuttals for these assertions and stipulate reasoning for analytical
functionalism s rational reliability as a suitable philosophy of the mind.

I decided to write this report after watching a documentary called, Plastic Bags Environmental
Impacts on YouTube. The video showed poor innocent animals wrapped up in plastic bags and it
made me feel heartbroken. So I wanted to find out what other issues do plastic bags create and if
we really need to ban them, or if we need to find other alternatives, or just manage our use of
them. Plastic bags have a benefit convenience , as most people nowadays use plastic bags for all

Racial Tension Among The Black And White Societies
Recently in class we observed the controversial film A Raisin in the Sun which initially was a
play written by Lorraine Hansberry in the late 1950s. Lorraine was the youngest of her siblings
and grew up in rural Chicago back during the era of segregation. It was evident that her hard
trials growing up directly correlated with this film as the setting of the plot occurred in her
hometown, Chicago, right before the Civil Rights Movement began. This explicit film vividly
conveyed many important issues that were ongoing in American history which saw the nation go
from economic prosperity to racial tension and turmoil briefly after World War II. Through
Hansberry s production of this play the viewer is given an honest depiction of the black family
and contrary to popular belief, the black community of that time was not comedic or flattering
which we sometimes see in today s society. A Raisin in the Sun successfully specifies the racial
tension amongst the black and white societies and strongly illustrates the difficulty in which the
