Whatever result was obtained in Satya-
yuga by meditating on Visnu, in Treta-
yuga by performing sacrifices, and in
Dvapara yuga by serving the Lord’s
lotus feet can be obtained in Kali-yuga
simply by chanting the Hare Krishna

“In the age of Kali, intelligent persons perform

names of Krsna.”

the strength of chanting the holy name of the Lord.
ajnaanaad athavaa jnaanaad / uttamashloka-naama yat
sankirtitam agham pumso / dahed edho yathaanalah
“As a fire burns dry grass to ashes, so the holy name of
the Lord, whether chanted knowingly or unknowingly,
burns to ashes, without fail, all the reactions of one’s
sinful activities.“
This is the potency of chanting the holy name of Lord
Krishna. We are gradually cleansed of all anarthas from
our heart (ceto darpana maarjanam).

14. Potency of the Holy Name of the Lord (SB 6.2.15)
One who chants the holy name of the Lord is immediately
freed from the reactions of unlimited sins, even if he chants
indirectly [to indicate something else], jokingly, for musical
entertainment, or even neglectfully. This is accepted by all
the learned scholars of the scriptures.

Ajamilo ‘py agad dhama kim uta
sraddhaya grnan
“While dying, Ajamila chanted
the holy name of the Lord,
intending to call his son
Narayana. Nevertheless, he
attained the spiritual world.
What then to speak of those
who chant the holy name with
faith and reverence?”

Yamraj ordering to his Yamdutas
My dear servants, please bring to
me only those sinful persons who
do not use their tongues to chant
the holy name and qualities of
Krsna, whose heart do not
remember the Lotus feet of Krsna
even once, and whose heads do
not bow down even once before
Lord Krsna. Send me those who
do not perform their duties
towards Visnu, which are the only
duties in human life. Please bring
me all such fools and rascals.

20. nāmnām akāri bahudhā nija-sarva-
śaktis
tatrārpitā niyamitaḥ smaraṇe na kālaḥ
etādṛśī tava kṛpā bhagavan mamāpi
durdaivam īdṛśam ihājani nānurāgaḥ
O my Lord, Your holy name alone can
render all benediction to living beings,
and thus You have hundreds and
millions of names, like Krsna and
Govinda. In these transcendental
names You have invested all Your
transcendental energies. There are
not even hard and fast rules for
chanting these names. O my Lord, out
of kindness You enable us to easily
approach You by Your holy names, but
I am so unfortunate that I have no
attraction for them.
