Management by Objectives
Management by Objectives
Motivating employees seems to be a challenge for managers Discuss the advantages and
disadvantages of the MBO program and provide at least one example to support your discussion.
Goal Setting Theories have evolved since the 50s and have an impressive documented literature.
The Goal Setting Theory addresses the issues that goal specificity, challenge, and feedback have on
performance (Robbins, 2009, p185). Setting goals and motivating employees are always an
important issue for a manager, however in certain cases it is difficult to make it operational. A more
systematic way to utilize goal setting is with the management by objectives program (MBO), which
introduced the system of SMART method of goals that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an example I could refer to the Texas state government, who initiated the management by
objectives program in 1978 and ten years later analyzed the results (Lee, 1989, An Analysis of the
Implementation and Effectiveness of Management by Objectives (MBO) in Texas State
Government). As it was already mentioned beforehand this method has also its advantages and
disadvantages, but let s see which they were in this specific case.
On the whole the analysis highlighted that there was a common agreement that the main elements
of the MBO program are practiced at managerial levels. Managers pointed out that their units and
divisions became goal and result oriented, the work objectives were clearly defined and were put in
writing. There were sufficient checkpoints established and opportunities to meet with the superiors

Peaceful Civil Disobedience
Civil disobedience is a timeless practice that has been carried on from generation to generation,
from Socrates refusal to execute Leon of Salamis to today s Syrian rebels fight for freedom. In
many cases of injustice, the public will rise up to reclaim their human rights, and ever so often
these fights are nonviolent in nature and educational to all the people who engage in it. However,
even in acts of nonviolent demonstrations, both the demonstrator and the demonstrated can be hurt.
So the question arises: does peaceful disobedience positively impact a free society? Or does such
disobedience only contribute to the tension already apparent? The answer to this question, simply
put, is that civil disobediencecan positively impact a free society in more ways than one. Peaceful
civil disobedience is one of the most important aspects that exemplifies a truly free society, for the
ability of a group to protest against injustice is true human freedom. Peaceful demonstrations can
also encourage better and stronger livelihood among people who are oppressed, since these
actions can and will open the eyes of oppressors, and as a result such... Show more content on

Americans time and time again have proven themselves to be civilly disobedient with their hunger
for freedom and the right to pursue their own happiness. What other grand example of American
civil disobedience can be found other than the American Revolutionary war? What other
extraordinary act of the pursuit of happiness than the Civil Rights movement? When Americans
threw the tea into the Boston Harbor and declared their independence from Britain, we were
exemplifying our human right for freedom and when we did that, we established how freedom of
speech is the factor and result of a truly free

Justification by Reflective Equilibrium
Justification by Reflective Equilibrium
Famously, John Rawls is regarded as using reflective equilibrium (RE) to justify his principles of
justice. But the point of justification by RE in Rawls s more recent work is not easily established
since he regards his own work as still contractarian. In order to clarify matters, I distinguish between
wide and narrow RE, as well as show that wide RE consists of several kinds of narrow RE: RE as a
plea for (re)consideration, RE as a constructive procedure of choice, and safe ground RE. The
connection of these REs is shown in order to reach justification. The point of introducing RE for
justification is seen in opening the range of possible revisions to allow for consensus. However, (the
lack of) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These narrow REa are of different kinds in that respect Daniels s account is insufficient:
We are in the (permanent) procedure of establishing a RE between the intuitions we have
concerning a certain case and proposed rules or principles. RE here describes a constructive
procedure of choice, where both principles/rules and descriptions for our intuitions are to be chosen
in a mutually constructive way. (12) Let s call this RE as constructive procedure of choice.
It is uncertain whether or not in Rawls s view there already exists a RE between these principles
/rules and the background cluster of principles or whether we are to create that RE in due process.
In any case, the RE involved in this process is of an already familiar kind: it is the plea for
(re)consideration of some rather firmly held or some newly proposed principles.
Finally, there is a RE between parts of the background cluster and some other intuitions. In this
sense we already have proven background principles, that is principles we have proved to fit our
intuitions about some cases (though perhaps not others). As a result there is a RE between those
background principles and some relevant intuitions. Here, clearly, is another kind of RE involved;
let us call this third kind of RE the safe ground RE.
These different kinds of narrow equilibria are prone to different problems. (13) Here, one of

The Role Of A Rocket Plane During The 1930 S Three Young...
In the late 1930 s, three young men, Frank Malina, Jack Parsons, and Ed Forman formed a group
on the Caltech campus in Pasadena, California known by students as the Suicide Squad, for their
crazy and often life threatening engineering antics; but as tensions heated up in Europe, the men s
experiments began to seem less wild to the US government: in 1939, they were awarded $1,000 to
conduct research into the development of a rocket plane for use in combat. With the money, the
men hired two of their colleagues, Barby and Richard Canright and created a testing site in the
Arroyo Seco canyon outside Pasadena. The group, ridiculed by scientists and engineers, and
frowned upon by the citizens of Pasadena, had just formed the Jet Propulsion... Show more content

At the time, if women did choose to pursue a career instead of becoming a housewife, there were
only three main paths they could take: schoolteacher, nurse, or secretary. It was just one of the
limits of being born a woman (11). Women who chose to rebel even further and attempt to pursue
careers in science and technology were greeted with little to no diversity; many of the JPL
computers recall being the only woman in a group of men in both classrooms and workplaces
(13). And even if they made into a corresponding profession, they had far less chance of being
promoted than their male counterparts. Many of the JPL women longed to become engineers, a
title with more distinction than that of computers, but not only was engineering considered a
man s profession , with women widely discouraged from pursuing careers in it, but most
engineering schools in the country wouldn t even accept women. This was a prominent and
long standing issue at JPL. When she was hired, Helen Ling s knowledge of math and science
was such that if she had been a man applying for the job, she wold likely have been hired as an
engineer (118). As such, there wasn t a single female engineer at JPL at the time; Barbara Paulson
says that in her mind an engineer was a man , adding even more depressingly that she couldn t

Gangs Of New York Book Vs Movie Analysis
Details of the Unknown. Snow covered cobbled streets, lined with lanterns and lamps of unique
design. Inside brewery, in an intersection called Five Points housed people of all different
diversities. Black, German, Irish even pure American, were huddled together in this dark and
dingy brewery where light barely reaches it except through the very windows it holds. This was
what the beginning scene would look like in a movie. A specific movie called Gangs of New York
directed by Martin Scorsese. The movie in comparison to the Gangs of New York, Excerpt by
Herbert Asbury, Five Points by Tyler Anbinder, and A Pickpockets Tale by Timothy Gilfoyle, were
similar in some ways but each had their differences. Yet, to compare and contrast which... Show

The movie Gangs of New York seemed almost as if summarizing everything into one piece. The
books held facts, details, truths that the movie just couldn t cover in two entire hours. The
authors, Gilfoyle, Asbury, and Anbinder showed us just what exactly urban history is like which
was honest, not overdramatized, factual, and real. While admittedly a good movie, the Gangs of
New York is a great recommendation for fun, but if comparing it with history the movie is just
pure fiction. An overdramatized, thug life of a man in past New York seeking revenge for the
death of his father by the hands of Bill the Butcher. Understanding history, even if its urban history
is no great feat in itself. For example, at the end of the movie there was the grave of the father of
Amsterdam Vallen who was the leader of the Dead rabbits. The scene changed and fast forwards
through time where the graves began to be covered in grass and weeds till eventually the graves
were gone. That scene is just like history, until history is told, it will just sit and eventually be
forgotten never to be found again making them details of the

Preamble: When in the course of life events it becomes necessary for students to protest against
dress code. Students should have the right to wear any type of attire they desire to because it is a
form of expressing their individuality.
The Declaration: We hold these principles to be self evident, the dress code is sending an inaccurate
message for the reason that it seems to be considered as if it is only applied towards girls, which
is miscalculated because boys can wear clothes that remain part of the dress code.

Contributions Of Julius Caesars
First triumvirate In 59 BC, two of the wealthiest men in Rome agreed to invest in Julius Caesar.
Crassus and Pompey, who despised each other, liked imperium and success more. After having
cleansed the Mediterranean from pirates and Mithridates in a sixth of the expected time allotted
to him by the Senate, Pompey returned with ships and soldiers. He demanded the senate ratify
the acts of settlements he had already determined for his soldiers, but was denied again and
again. Crassus wanted relief for the bid the publicani made, tax collectors who failed to gather
the money they promised the Senate they would from foreign provinces. Caesar promised to
provide both in exchange for patronage to the consulship, as well as gaining his own chosen
provincial command to accomodate his own debts. After forfeiting his triumph, Caesar becomes
consul and provides his own land bill that accommodates veterans in Campania, fulfilling his
deal to Pompey. Caesar knew that the veterans and land owners who were profiting from his bill
were also voters. Although Pompey and Crassus were profiting immediately from their dealings
in the first triumvirate, Caesar was clearly investing for long term benefits. The pontifix maximus
In 63 BC, Caesar managed to be a young man in a very old and prestigious post, the pontifix
maximus. As religious leader of the state religion, Caesar was able to influence a majority of
events in Roman everyday life, such as elections, which depended on lunar calendar

Black Single Mom Research Paper
When I was in middle school, not a week went by where I was not sent out of class. Given my
thirst for learning, I remember being frustrated leaving the classroom with my head held low and

Yet, I never comprehended how my actions warranted my removal. Raised by a successful Black
single mother, she taught me at an early age what it meant to be a Black woman in today s
American society. The daughter of field workers from Mississippi, educationwas my mother s most

Seeking answers, I soon grew frustrated with the lack of gender and race based studies for Black
girls in urban school settings. We were trapped in the juncture of race and gender where studies on
Black youth focus primarily on issues encountered by Black boys and the studies on girls gives
attention to the challenges faced by White girls. Because of the absence of information on Black

Intimate Partner Violence Analysis
The fifth and sixth themes go hand in hand and deal with the woman being fed up with their
circumstances and other stressors. The fifth commonality was that many of the women did not
become perpetrators of intimate partner violence until after the birth of their first child. (Seamans,
et al., 2007) Of the women who reported this occurrence, they reported that the stress of being a
new parent coupled with being a victim of intimate partner violencebecame too much for them. The
sixth commonality was based on asking for help, but not getting it. Many of the women in the
study reported asking their families, their partner s family, as well as authorities for help.

The reason for this has already been discussed. The question many people have now is what to do
about traditional treatment s ineffectiveness. Studies show that Behavioral Couples Therapy is
extremely effective in reducing violence and aggression in relationships. (Stith, et al., 2012)
However, there is a caveat to implementing Behavioral Couples Therapy for intimate partner
violence.
That is that the couple must also seek treatment for their substance abuse in order to maintain the
reduction in intimate partner violence within the relationship. (Stith, et al., 2012) Altunes Alves
and De Stefano warn that couples therapy should only occur when it will not do more harm to one
of the individuals.

thumb, the tail covers up for the thumb. This tail can be put into use just like an arm to hold and

Beatles Thesis
The Beatles Music has impacted human lives all throughout history, whether it has been a simple
thing like someone playing their guitar in the streets or an overcrowded performance by an artist.
The reason behind this is because music has been able to express emotions that many can t express
into words and it has grown so much throughout the years that it has exponentially become a
statement for those trying to impact others. A great example of a group, who was able to influence
not only lives, but some say even generations, is The Beatles. Before learning about their fame and
success it is important to understand where it all began and how it all unfolded for these four
artists. According to author Womack Kenneth, who wrote The Beatles Encyclopedia: Everything
Fab Four Ringo Starr was born on July 7 1940, on October 9 John Winston Lennon is born, June 8
1942 James Paul McCartneyis born and lastly in February 25 1943 George Harrisonis born and all
four were born in Liverpool, England . Before becoming The Beatles they were once known as
The Quarry Men (Womack). Their encounter occurred on the year 1957 McCarthy first met Lennon
and decided to join the Quarry Men after performing at the Woolton Parish Church Garden FГЄte in

It is not likely for it to cause the Guillain Barre syndrome. The influenza vaccination may not be
100% effective for some people, but that does not mean it is not 100% effective for others. It
affects people differently because no one has the same strains. It is much smarter for people to
get the shot rather than taking a risk of getting the fatally dangerous virus. It should most
definitely be required for all healthcare workers, in any region, to get the flu vaccination or jab.
Anyone who wants to be a real doctor or nurse should not want to jeopardize their patients or even
their own family by putting them on the line of any virus. It should be considered selfish because
it is their job to keep their patients healthy and happy. The should protect them from any bacterial
diseases or viruses. This will probably always be argued in hospital arguments whether flu shots
should be mandatory for the workers. One thing for sure is that healthcare workers should always

Federal Funds On The State Of The Economy Essay
Mario Lamberto
ECON 201
10/12/2016
Federal Funds Rate
The Federal Funds Rate plays a huge role on the state of the economy in the United States. For
something that has such impact on the whole economy in the United States, it is very little known
and understood. The Federal Funds Rate may be the most important rate in the country. So what is
the Federal Funds Rate? It is an interest rate that is used when banks lend to other banks or other
depository institutions from funds that are maintained at the Federal Reserve (Target Rate). The
transaction can only be done overnight and by trustworthy institutions. The target rate is
determined by the Federal Open Market Committee (Target Rate). They will influence and
determine the rate that will be used. So if it doesn t have any first hand impact on a normal
consumer or business, why should anyone care about it? The answer to that is simple, the
Federal Funds Rate will greatly impact the economy in several areas and it will trickle down
onto the normal consumer and business. The Federal Funds Rate will change the economy if it
goes up, and if it goes down. As the year runs down, everyone will be watching with a close eye to
see what the Fed will do with the rate. The Federal Funds Rate will increase in December of
2016. Why will the Federal Funds Rate increase by the end of the year? One reason to believe
this is that the current chair Janet Yellen is not afraid to do so, as she did it just a year ago which

that changes have been made since the implementation of the Common Core Standards. What is

The Motor Control Theory And The Dynamical Systems Theory
Comparison of Theories
According to Beek, Peper, and Stegeman (1995), the motor control theories provide an explanation
on how the nervous system will solve the degrees of freedom problem and serve to direct
movement command. The following theories are the generalized motor program theory and the
dynamical systems theory. The GMP theory proposes that the movement plan is retrieved from
memory within the central nervous system and neural instructions are sent down to the effectors
via the efferent pathways. The dynamical systems approach on the other hand, does not propose a
hierarchical control, but suggests that movements emerge through self organization of the
interaction of the body and environment. It can be said that everybody s bodily movements
occur in the context of the everyday functioning of people while realizing specific task goals. As
a general, yet acquired rule, such movements involve the participation of multiple joints and
limbs. Moreover, when in action, these body parts are coordinated and are brought into proper
relation to one another as well as to the surrounding layout of surface. The coordination of these
body parts may look relatively simple, as in picking up an object, or relatively complicated, as in
juggling, performing an attacking forehand drive in table tennis or playing the drums. To the
psychomotor scientist or researcher, however, all coordination is complex in that he or she is
confronted with the challenge to explain

How Is Crane-Man In A Single Shard
Crane man, one of the lead characters in the novel A Single Shard, undergoes several changes from
the beginning to the end. Two of his main traits are his selflessness and his independence.
At the beginning of the novel, Crane man is seen as selfless; because, although he is crippled, he

For an example, when Tree ear went on his long journey, Crane man made Tree ear take all of the

God s Grandeur, By Gerard Manly Hopkins
God s Grandeur by Gerard Manly Hopkins
As a Jesuit priest, Gerard Manly Hopkins devoted many years of his life to spiritual study and
instruction. As seen in his poem God s Grandeur , Hopkins translated his intense spirituality into
poems that explore the relationship between humans and the natural world as an expression of God
s divinity. In the poem, Hopkins presents the Victorian fixation on progress and change not as an

Here, Hopkins establishes a connection between God s grandeur and light, which he continues in
the second stanza with his description of the sunrise brought forth by the possibility of rebirth as
well as continuity in nature. Although the sun sets in the black west, morning, at the brown brink
eastward, springs (12). The sun, a source of energy so far superior to any source to any man made
source, becomes an expression of God s care for the Earth, offering the possibility of freshness and
growth despite all of man s abuses.
Hopkins outlines some of these abuses in the first stanza, in which a rather bleak picture of man s
interaction with the earth contrasts to the brightness of God s light. During the Victorian Age of
mass production, people gradually drew away from small rural farms into the dismal urban world
of factories and mills. Hopkins laments that such so called progress has drawn man away from the
land. The sun, God s ultimate source of light and life, shines upon soil that Is bare now, abandoned
for the urban life (8). That Hopkins chooses to say now in reference to the barren earth suggests a
dramatic and negative change from the past. While not condemning the contemporary changes,
Hopkins regrets that man s progress has so negatively impacted both the natural world and man
himself.
In defining how man s progress leads him away from the God s grandeur, Hopkins lowers the

Tale Of Two Cities Injustice
A Tale Of Two Cities
A Tale Of Two Cities was during the French Revolution. It was a time of disorder and also an
outstanding period. It was the time of fear, of lots of violence, robberies, and blood all over the
streets. It was the time of joy and happiness. It was the time of injustice throughout society. A time
of great change throughout society. The book A Tale Of Two City has majors theme throughout the
book. One major theme is metaphorically resurrected from death and having a second chance at
life. Another major theme throughout the book is how society was injustice and corrupted.
Resurrection from death is coming back to live figuratively. Throughout the book more than one

The Revolutionary War Of Independence
The American Revolution which began as a War of Independence for American quickly
transformed into a civil battle between the American patriots and loyalists joined by Indian forces.
This war of independence, irrefutably, had a great effect on the citizens of America in varying
degrees. The revolution, of course, gave a free rein to unforeseen political revolutions which often
spark social revolutions. However, the American Revolution has foreseen the beginning of an
abolitionist movement for African American slaves, broaden the social roles of women, and
diversified religious life in American society. The Revolutionary War notably changed the
framework of the government and secured independence, but it also affected those that aren t
mentioned in the Declaration of Independence, African American slaves and women, and impacted
the principle of the separation of the church and state. America s war of independence was
undeniably a war of social change which overall redefined rights of American citizens. The
Revolutionary War was an engine of change. The Revolutionary War offered enslaved blacks
fluctuating degrees of opportunities for freedom. America s war of independence greatly impacted
the lives of African American slaves. The world s first Antislavery society was founded in 1775 by
the Quakers of Philadelphia, the year the Revolution began (ushistory.org). Pennsylvania quickly

Polymerization Is The Four Major Groups Of Macromolecules
Polymerization Polymerization is when two monomer molecules join together to form a larger
polymer monomer molecule or a chain of lager polymer molecules. This chemical reaction takes
place through dehydration synthesis. Dehydration synthesis is when water is removed to make it
able for monomers to join of bond together. The four major group of biochemical: carbohydrates,
nucleic acid, lipids, and proteins share properties with polymerization of the macromolecules.
Therefore completed macromolecules depend on properties of single monomers and their sequence.
The four major biochemical groups (carbohydrates, nucleic acid, lipids and proteins) go through the
process of dehydration synthesis to reach their goal and become polymers by joining together

Essay about Relationships in Geoffrey Chaucer s The...
Throughout literature, deep relationships can often be discovered between a story and the author
who writes it. Relationships can also be found in stories about a husband and wife. In Geoffrey
Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales many of the characters make this idea apparent with the stories
they tell. In The Pardoner s Tale , a distinct relationship can be made between the character of the
Pardoner and his tale of three friends. Also, the Wife in The Wife of Bath s Tale boldly declares
her relationship towards her husband.
Throughout The Pardoner s Tale , the main character teaches about greed, gambling, desecration,
and drinking, but in the beginning he admits to committing these sins himself. One of the portrayals
of hypocrisy, in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The irony of the Pardoner is based on his hypocritical actions. The fact that he does not care about
the souls of those he has tricked, says a lot about his character. Near the end of his tale, the friends
begin to reveal their true personality. All three of them turn on each other trying to steal the
treasure for themselves. All of the trust, which they had promised, was a lie and no loyalty
remained. The supposed faithful friends display their true cruelty and expose their hypocrisy in
relation to the Pardoner s character.
One main theme in The Wife of Bath s Tale is female dominance and equality. In the tale, the wife
portrays her dominance through her own experience. For example, the image of the whip sets her
role as master, and she tells everyone that she is the head of her household. Despite her claim that
experience is her sole power, the Wife of Bath evidently feels the need to create her authority in a
more scholarly manner. She mimics the habits of the scholars and churchmen by supporting her
claims with quotations from antique works and scripture.
The Wife of Bath apparently attempts to emphasize female dominance over men. She contradicts
many of the harsh customs and declares her own haughty assessment of women s function in
society and in relationships. In the story, Chaucer explains that what women want is sovereignty
over their husbands. According to the tale, women desire to be treated as masters over their love.
The story also suggests that

Advantages Of Gap Year
I am convinced that one s college education is greatly enhanced by the maturity, experience, and
perspective a student can bring post gap year. (Fred A. Hardon). A gap year is a period, usually,
one academic year, taken by a student as a break between secondary school and higher education.
The gap year as we know it started gaining attraction in the US in the 1960s. During their gap year,
students usually travel and experience other cultures, gain work experience, learn other languages,
and volunteer. Initially, taking a gap year has not always been socially acceptable in the US,
however, it was much more acceptable in many European countries as well as Australia. In more
recent years, however, the percentage of students putting their higher educationon hold to pursue
learning outside of the academic field has been increasing steadily. Although the percentage of
students who are taking a gap year is steadily increasing, in comparison to other countries we are
very much behind. According to the Gap Year Association, many students in other countries wait a
year or more after high school before attending college. For instance, more than 50 percent of
students In Norway, Denmark and Turkey take a gap year before going to college, and that is
according to the Nordic Institute for Studies in Innovation, Research, and Educationin Oslo,

Comparing The Reproductive And Urinary System
Reproductive and Urinary Systems The reproductive and urinary systems are just two of the
eleven body systems that make up who we are. Each of these systems is comprised of certain
organs, muscles and nerves. The reproductive system contains organs that are found on the inside

system is an important system in the body. The male reproductive system is made up of several
parts. These parts are the penis, scrotum, testicles, epididymis, vas deferens, ejaculatory ducts,

Tiny quantities of urine are emptied into the bladder from the ureters every ten to fifteen

Why Do We Celebrate Columbus Day
In the U.S and most Latin American countries, Christopher Columbus has been portrayed as a

many may feel that the American educationsystem is a model of success, compared to the

as stated before, America still uses the same methods of education today as nearly two centuries

Cocaine s mechanism of action includes delaying the neurotransmitters dopamine, norepinephrine,

has the ability to significantly disrupt people s life for extended periods of time. As it relates to

Effectiveness of Narcotics Anonymous for Adolescents
Drug addiction can be a powerful and complex situation for some individuals to gain control of.
Research and health professionals have historically shown that 12 step programs provide the tools
and healthy social networks that are immensely beneficial to achieving sobriety. However, prior
studies have largely focused on these programs effectiveness for adults, whereas younger
populations are also seeking treatment for drug addiction. This longitudinal study will have only
adolescent participants to enhance the minimal research that has been done on this population. It is
relevant to social work because the results of this study will help social workers to better
understand that Narcotics Anonymous may be more effective for some adolescents, namely those
with many positive social supports as compared to those with few positive social supports.

Making the Best Use of Pakistan s Natural Resources
INTRODUCTION
Pakistan is rich in natural resources. It has mountains , plains , deserts , fertile land , rivers and
oceans. Natural resources are very important to the development and prosperity of a country. The
important thing is to use them for the welfare of human beings and the development of the country
economically because the progress of a country depends entirely on the use of available resources.
Significant natural resources are described as follows :
1. Soil
Soil dry Pakistan belong to group having high carbonate and calcium poor in organic matter.
These vary in color from reddish brown in the north to the red or gray in the south. These soils
are generally fertile due to training. The barrage of new stores near the river called Khaddar and
mostly consists of sand . The old bar alluvial plateau, called Bangar , consists of finer particles
loams . At the foot of the mountains the soil is sandy and generally becomes thinner towards the
plains where Khankah , the concentration of limestone is occasionally . The soils of the deserts of
Thal and Thar and Balochistan are carried by the wind. In southern Potwar is a thin layer of
residual floor coating .
2.Water
Water is a basic necessity of life . Human beings , animals and plants can not live without water.
Water is essential for maintaining the quality of life on earth . This finite commodity has a direct
impact on almost all sectors of the economy. In Pakistan its importance is more than ordinary

The Health And Social Care
Person Centred Values is an approach that respects and values the uniqueness of the individual,
and seeks to maintain or if required, restore their individuality. It means the person whom one
supports is able to be involved and included in every aspect of their care and support; and that the
care provided should be centred on and around the person, and not just their health or care needs.
This is done by creating an environment that promotes the personal worth, uniqueness, and social
confidence of the individual, as well as respect, independence and hope. I.e. Person centred values
covers the total care of the person.
There is no doubt that person centred care values must influence all aspects of health and social

It is important to ensure that all individuals are treated as such, and person centred care should
ensure this.
To work in a person centred way, one must develop a clear understanding about the individuals one
is supporting. This includes their needs, culture, means of communication, likes and dislikes, their
family, colleagues and other professionals one may be working with; so one can promote and
provide person centred care and support.
There are 8 person centred values that support person centred care and support. These are:
Individuality
Assumptions should never be made about a person. The person should never have to fit in with you
or your organisation/employer. People should be allowed and supported to make their own choices.
Care and support needs should be tailored to suit each individual, by checking their care plan, to
learn more about them and their likes and dislikes, such as; what food do they like and want to
eat, how they want to be addressed (as one should not assume they can call someone by their first
name), etc. This shows respect by preserving the individual s dignity and individuality. Their
personal beliefs should always be respected.
Rights
Individuals in one s care should continue to enjoy the same rights as when they were living
independently. They have the right to say no, the right to have a relationship, the right to have a say
in their care and how they are supported, the right to choose what they eat and when, how they

The Alchemist Santiago Analysis
Not only does Coelho use symbolism and geography to further prove his theme, he uses his

On the other hand, the characters he encounters represent the opposite and ultimately encourage

expectation interferes with someones personal legend. As fear interefered with the merchants

belief also becomes problematic when an individual has to leave behind their loved ones. Coelho

According to answers.com, a dust bowl is a region reduced to aridity by drought and dust storms.
The best known dust bowl is doubtless the one that hit the United States between 1933 and 1939.
One major cause of that Dust Bowl was severe droughts during the 1930 s. The other cause was
capitalism. Over farming and grazing in order to achieve high profits killed of much of the plain s
grassland and when winds approached, nothing was there to hold the devastated soil on the ground.
The Dust Bowl affected the Great Plains which consist of parts of the U.S. states of Colorado,
Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas and
Wyoming. Storms also reached the East Coast of the United States. The Dust Bowl ... Show more

Lawrence Svobida most likely joined the Dust Bowl exodus, the largest migration in American
history. By 1940, 2.5 million people had moved out of the Plains states; of those, 200,000 moved
to California. Arriving in California, the migrants were faced with a life almost as difficult as the
one they had left.
Many California farms were corporate owned. They were larger, and more modernized that those
of the southern plains, and the crops were unfamiliar. Many farmers from the Great Plains ended
up picking cotton and grapes for wages as low as 0.75 $ a day.
Other asylums included Oregon, Washington, Arizona, and New Mexico. The vast majority of Dust
Bowl migrants stayed on the West Coast permanently.
The Dust Bowl also inspired painters and other artists. One of the best known artists in connection
with the Dust Bowl is Alexandre Hogue. His picture s name is simply Dust Bowl .
An artist who compares the Dust Bowl to nowadays air pollution is Heather Watts. Her best known
picture is the New Dustbowl Blues .
Dorothea Lange became a well known photographer with pictures of the Dust Bowl. According to
Garland 2003 her photography obtained government relief for Dust Bowl migrants because she
visually demonstrated the hunger, poverty, hardship, and the plight of the migrants.

Detroit s Rebellious History
Detroiter or Philosopher?
A Closer Look into Detroit s Rebellious History
I received the opportunity to interview one of my father s close friends and business partners, Mr.
Joseph E. Hutchison Sr., for the purposes of exploring how he perceived the Detroit riots of 1697.
Mr. Hutchison is an African American man, which has lived in multiple neighborhoods throughout
Detroit all his life, and has raised a family in the city as well. Furthermore, Mr. Hutchison has a
funeral home on Detroit s East Side, which has been thriving for more than forty years. Moreover,
he has a love for the city, no matter what condition the city is in. Pursuing this idea further,
Hutchison has experienced about three race riots throughout his life, in which he ... Show more

Hutchison, so that I could understand what his early life was like. This aided me in examining
the effects of the riots on his perception of Detroit, as well as his life after the rebellion. Some
useful background information about Mr. Hutchison is that he was born and raised in the city
of Detroit, as well as raising a family within the city, and starting Hutchison Funeral Home on the
East Side of Detroit. When I asked about his first job in Detroit, he explained that he provided
multiple services throughout his neighborhood, such as a paper route, scrubbing floors, and
carrying groceries. I thought it would be beneficial to know about what time Mr. Hutchison
moved out of his childhood home, he replied, On Elmhurst St. That s Central Detroit. I then
inquired about his age around the time of the riots, and he explained, Take your calculator out
*laughs* I was born in 1932; 42, 52, 62... About 35/36 years of age. Mr. Hutchison explained that
around the time of the riots, he was a working man as well as a family man, and did not go out
often, nor did he participate in the riots. In addition to this, I asked Mr. Hutchison what his work
life was like in the 1960 s, he responded, I was working for the Excel Corporation. They made
aircraft parts. 1 then asked him about what the racial demographic of this corporation, and he
explained, Basically Caucasians. Finally, I asked about the ethnic makeup of the neighborhood that

Persuasive Essay On How To Keep It Cool During A Hot Winter
Keeping it Cool during a Hot Perth Summer
Without a doubt, if you have lived in Perth during the summer months, you already know how hot,
humid, wet, and uncomfortable the summer season can be. Being able to keep the heat and
moisture out of your home is a matter of prior planning. Here are some great tips on how to keep
your home cool without using lots of electricity.
The Windows
1. Having tall plants or trees that shade the outside of your home helps to keep the heat away from
entering through your windows.
2. Shading your windows from the outside helps to prevent nearly 75 percent of the solar heat from
reaching the windows. This can easily be done with awnings, overhanging eaves, up and down
rolling shutters, bamboo shades, and self applying reflective film.
3. Whether you have curtains or window blinds, keep them closing during the daylight hours,
especially during the peak heat generating hours of 3 to 6 PM. Light colored curtains are more
effective than darker colored ones. White blinds are effective in reflecting sunlight, and in keeping
solar heat away from the interior rooms cool.
4. Install UV Ray and Sunlight reflective window panes. This not only keeps the humidity and heat
out of your home, it will also reduce your dependence on your air conditioner.
5. Try to keep your windows closed at all times. However, it is totally fine to open your windows, if
you have screen covers, during the evenings if you live in an area that is significantly cooler

Fahrenheit 451 Individual Vs Individual
Human beings are individuals. Individuals with their own bodies, facilities and inalienable rights
who live in a society. Society by definition is a body of individuals living as members of a
community (Dictionary). Therefore logic will lead you to understand that individuals are the basic
building block from which all societies are formed and without individuals, society would cease to
exist. This provides a clear answer to the decades old question, which is more important the
individual, individualism, or society, collectivism. If individuals make up society how is it possible
for society to be more important than the individual? Individualism is the idea that the individual s
life belongs to him and that he has an inalienable... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Collectivism is the practice or principle of giving a group priority over each individual (Merriam
Webster). Those who believe in collectivism think having society working towards the same goal
or outcome is the most productive. Supporters of this theory feel it creates harmony and a sense
of belonging (Andrews 1). Collective societies tend to be dependent on others in the group or
institutions to meet their needs. Members of a collective society expect absolute loyalty to the
group and have a we mentality (Andrews 1). As Ray Bradbury pointed out in Fahrenheit 451, when
a collective society is present, ...they all say the same things and nobody says anything different
from anyone else. (31) The individual has no self identity and is lost to the group. Although aspects
of this argument are enticing, it ultimately fails to be a stronger argument because individual
responsibility nor moral responsibility is present. There is no incentive for any individual to step up
because everyone receives the same reward. Through collaboration and collective thoughts are great
tools, we must remember that the original thought was generated by the individual and he or she
should benefit from

Catechism In The Chick Tract
This Chick Tract also touches on the idea of an all loving God which goes hand in hand with the
idea of God giving His only begotten Son so that everyone else will be allowed eternal life (John
3:16 ). The fundamentalists try to state in this Chick Tract that God does not love Roman Catholics
because God views them as a false religion. The fundamentalists believe that the Catholic Churchis
just trying to persuade people to join their faith and that it actually goes against the word of God.
According to the Catechism of the Catholic Faith, Catholics believe in an all loving God due to
the fact that He always provides for His people, forgives sins, and most importantly offers His
followers an eternity of everlasting love with Him in heaven if they choose to do so (Cline,
Austin, Is God Omnibenevolent). God has proven that He loves all of His followers and
children not only through the giving of His Son, but also throughout other parts of the Bible.
Deuteronomy 7:9 shows a great example of this love Remember that the Lord your God is the
only God and that he is faithful. He will keep his covenant and show his constant love to a
thousand generations of those who love him and obey his commands . God is telling his
followers that if they remain faithful to Him, He will in return remain faithful to them, and will
always guide them and keep them safe. This God does not seem to be a God of hate who could
merely banish someone to spend the rest of eternity burning in hell for not

The Theory Of The Black Man
between a white and a black man and settles in his mind that everyone is a human being. Griffin
narrates that in his life as a black man he witnesses sociability, which is the one thing he never
thought as a white man existed within the black society. Griffin had never practiced what it meant
to be black, and his I position was enlightened by how the blacks behaved towards white peopleand
what they said. In his white society, the I position regarding blacks was not quite a real picture of
the blacks experience in the racist society. As a black man, he saw things in a new light and
realized how racism was established among white people.
According to the Dialogical theory, the two selves adopted by Griffin outstandingly transformed
his general sense of self and his view of the black and white cultural standings. He formed a
situation for discourse between his two selves, which consequently caused him to acquire a
completely new perspective concerning racism. He had a one on one experience with the fate of
black man in a racist society, and in this instance, he was emotionally in touch with the affairs of
a black man. He says that he had felt the beginnings of loneliness, not because he was a Negro but
because the man he had become, the self he knew, was hidden in the self of another. He reports
that this was a devastating experience. He realized his skin color would radically change the
manner in which he experienced himself.
Griffin describes that his face had assumed the

Biosynthesis of glycyrrhizin is not fully elucidated at gene level. The early stages of triterpenoid
saponin biosynthesis via isoprenoid pathway involve the dimerization of two molecules of
farnesyl diphosphate catalyzed by squalene synthase, epoxidase mediated oxidation then produces
2,3 oxidosqualene. The first diversifying step in triterpenoid biosynthesis is the cyclization of 2,3
oxidosqualene a common substrate of oxidosqualene cyclases (OSCs) and a precursor of both
triterpenes and sterols [Abe et al., 1993]. The biosynthesis of glycyrrhizin involves the initial
cyclization of 2, 3 oxidosqualene by a specific OSC, ОІ amyrin synthase (bAS), to the primarily
oleanane triterpene ОІ amyrin which is one of the most commonly occurring triterpenes in plants.
The subsequent steps involve a series of oxidative reactions at positions C 11 (two step oxidation)
and C 30 (three step oxidation), followed by glycosyl transfers to the C 3 hydroxyl group.
Genes involved in the early stages of glycyrrhizin biosynthesis, namely, squalene synthase and
bAS, have been functionally isolated from G. glabra [Hayashi et al., 1999, 2001]. The bAS gene
has also been functionally isolated from several other plants including Arabidopsis thaliana
[Shibuya et al., 2009], Avena strigosa [Qi et al., 2004], Lotus japonicus [Sawai et al., 2006], and
Medicago truncatula [Suzuki et al., 2002]; however, most of the steps in the modification of the

James Weldon Johnson My City Essay
The sonnet poem, My City, by James Weldon Johnson is about how a man is so in love with his
city, Manhattan that he doesn t want to die and never be able to see it again. This poem shows the
emotion connection he shares with his city. The mood, tone, theme, imagery, repetition, and
personification in the poem will help you to understand it better. If it weren t for these details, you
wouldn t quite understand this piece as well, since there would be many ways to interpret it. The
speaker gives a personal statement in this piece of poetry. He asks what his greatest loss would be
once he dies, and he answers it in detail. You will see the poet s love for Manhattan, and see how
beautiful his emotional connection is with it.

The poet talks about all the things that he won t miss after death, which is nature. He uses
imagery to express it. Johnson (1923) writes, Will it be that no more I shall see the trees/ Or
smell the flowers or hear the singing birds/ Or watch the flashing streams or patient herds? (p.
677). He gets you to imagine nature and its beauty, and then writes, No, I am sure it will be none
of these. (Johnson, 1923, p. 677). Now that you know it s not nature that he will miss the most, he
continues to talk about his city, Manhattan, and that it would be the thing he would miss the most.
The poet then uses personification and repetition to explain what he loves about his city. Johnson
(1923) writes, But ah! Manhattan s sights and sounds, her smells,/ Her crowds, her throbbing
force, the thrill that comes/ From being of her a part, her subtle spells,/ Her shining towers, her
avenues, her slums (p. 677). The personification here clearly shows the emotional connection he
shares with his city. The fact that he refers to his city as a her just shows how much he loves
Manhattan. Also, as you can see, there is a repetition of the word her, which creates excitement in
the tone of the poem. It changes the mood entirely and the fact that the poet constantly refers to his
city as a her, and not an it just shows how much love he has for Manhattan. The

Why Are Do Underdogs Win in Malcolm Gladwell s Blink and...
History has it that the underdogs of our society are ought to win due to their disadvantages. In
David and Goliath, Malcolm Gladwell (the author of Blink and Outliers) explores why the
disadvantaged misfits were able to win their greatest opposing giants. Gladwell initiates his
discovery with the Biblical story of David, an Israeli shepherd boy, who killed Goliathwith a
slingshot. He explains how the chances of the underdogs increase when they fight
unconventionally. In our society, our advantages can limit us to do the average rather than find a
new way to battle challenges ; so theoretically, disadvantages play to our side .He starts with the

There are times and places, however, when all of us depend on people who have been hardened
by their experiences (Gladwell 178). Remote misses overcame their battles because of the
unfavorable conditions; Nazis might have been better off if they had never bombed London.
Through the book, Gladwell talks about the inverted U curve that resembles a camel s hub. It
explains how having too many disadvantages (end of the tip) is as bad as having too many
advantages. He describes through statistics how too little classrooms are as bad as a classroom
full of 48 students, We have become obsessed with what is good about small classrooms and
oblivious about what also can be good about large classes. It s a strange thing isn t it, to have an
educational philosophy that thinks of the other students in the classroom with your child as
competitors for the attention of the teacher and not allies in the adventure of learning (Gladwell
201). Likewise, we often think poverty is a bad thing, but do not be surprised to know that the
richest of all people who drive the nicest of cars came from extreme remote misses of financial
shortages. Their harsh childhood has made them motivated to overcome by ways no one can
imagine. Gladwell s main purpose was to inform readers that smart can be dyslexic; genius can go
to Maryland State rather than Brown (an Ivy League School). For instance, lawyer

Disadvantages Of Using Static Analysis In The Computer...
Statistic analyze is the computer software analysis performed by not actually executing the
software that is being tested. Static analysis doesn t include dynamic execution of the software
under test and can detect potential defects in an early stage, prior to running the program. It can be
achieved by a machine to automatically walk through the source codeand detect noncomplying
codes. A compiler which finds lexical, syntactic and even some semantic mistakes can be given as
a classical example. It can find weaknesses in the code at the exact location.
Static analysis can also be carried out by a person who would review the code to provide correct
coding standards and conventions are used to construct the program. This is generally called Code

The defect gets more expensive as long as the defect persists. One of the most crucial advantages
of static analysis is the detection of defects earlier during the process when they are easier and more
cost effective to fix. Other advantages involves removing program components that are not
necessary and ensuring that the software being analyzed is compatible with other programs that are
likely to be run concurrently.
Another advantage of using static code analysis is you can define your project specific rules, and
they will be guaranteed to follow without any manual intervention. In case any team member
forgets to follow those rules, static code analyzer will highlight them like fortify or find bugs.
As the static testing is faster and achieves 100% coverage, the unit cost of detecting these bugs by
static testing is much lower than detecting bugs by dynamic testing. If you have an urgent deadline
looming on the horizon, the part where you use dynamic testing tools can be omitted. However,
tool supported static testing should in no case be

  • 2. Management by Objectives Management by Objectives Motivating employees seems to be a challenge for managers Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the MBO program and provide at least one example to support your discussion. Goal Setting Theories have evolved since the 50s and have an impressive documented literature. The Goal Setting Theory addresses the issues that goal specificity, challenge, and feedback have on performance (Robbins, 2009, p185). Setting goals and motivating employees are always an important issue for a manager, however in certain cases it is difficult to make it operational. A more systematic way to utilize goal setting is with the management by objectives program (MBO), which introduced the system of SMART method of goals that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As an example I could refer to the Texas state government, who initiated the management by objectives program in 1978 and ten years later analyzed the results (Lee, 1989, An Analysis of the Implementation and Effectiveness of Management by Objectives (MBO) in Texas State Government). As it was already mentioned beforehand this method has also its advantages and disadvantages, but let s see which they were in this specific case. On the whole the analysis highlighted that there was a common agreement that the main elements of the MBO program are practiced at managerial levels. Managers pointed out that their units and divisions became goal and result oriented, the work objectives were clearly defined and were put in writing. There were sufficient checkpoints established and opportunities to meet with the superiors to review ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Peaceful Civil Disobedience Civil disobedience is a timeless practice that has been carried on from generation to generation, from Socrates refusal to execute Leon of Salamis to today s Syrian rebels fight for freedom. In many cases of injustice, the public will rise up to reclaim their human rights, and ever so often these fights are nonviolent in nature and educational to all the people who engage in it. However, even in acts of nonviolent demonstrations, both the demonstrator and the demonstrated can be hurt. So the question arises: does peaceful disobedience positively impact a free society? Or does such disobedience only contribute to the tension already apparent? The answer to this question, simply put, is that civil disobediencecan positively impact a free society in more ways than one. Peaceful civil disobedience is one of the most important aspects that exemplifies a truly free society, for the ability of a group to protest against injustice is true human freedom. Peaceful demonstrations can also encourage better and stronger livelihood among people who are oppressed, since these actions can and will open the eyes of oppressors, and as a result such... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Americans time and time again have proven themselves to be civilly disobedient with their hunger for freedom and the right to pursue their own happiness. What other grand example of American civil disobedience can be found other than the American Revolutionary war? What other extraordinary act of the pursuit of happiness than the Civil Rights movement? When Americans threw the tea into the Boston Harbor and declared their independence from Britain, we were exemplifying our human right for freedom and when we did that, we established how freedom of speech is the factor and result of a truly free ... • 4. Justification by Reflective Equilibrium Justification by Reflective Equilibrium Famously, John Rawls is regarded as using reflective equilibrium (RE) to justify his principles of justice. But the point of justification by RE in Rawls s more recent work is not easily established since he regards his own work as still contractarian. In order to clarify matters, I distinguish between wide and narrow RE, as well as show that wide RE consists of several kinds of narrow RE: RE as a plea for (re)consideration, RE as a constructive procedure of choice, and safe ground RE. The connection of these REs is shown in order to reach justification. The point of introducing RE for justification is seen in opening the range of possible revisions to allow for consensus. However, (the lack of) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These narrow REa are of different kinds in that respect Daniels s account is insufficient: We are in the (permanent) procedure of establishing a RE between the intuitions we have concerning a certain case and proposed rules or principles. RE here describes a constructive procedure of choice, where both principles/rules and descriptions for our intuitions are to be chosen in a mutually constructive way. (12) Let s call this RE as constructive procedure of choice. It is uncertain whether or not in Rawls s view there already exists a RE between these principles /rules and the background cluster of principles or whether we are to create that RE in due process. In any case, the RE involved in this process is of an already familiar kind: it is the plea for (re)consideration of some rather firmly held or some newly proposed principles. Finally, there is a RE between parts of the background cluster and some other intuitions. In this sense we already have proven background principles, that is principles we have proved to fit our intuitions about some cases (though perhaps not others). As a result there is a RE between those background principles and some relevant intuitions. Here, clearly, is another kind of RE involved; let us call this third kind of RE the safe ground RE. These different kinds of narrow equilibria are prone to different problems. (13) Here, one of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Role Of A Rocket Plane During The 1930 S Three Young... In the late 1930 s, three young men, Frank Malina, Jack Parsons, and Ed Forman formed a group on the Caltech campus in Pasadena, California known by students as the Suicide Squad, for their crazy and often life threatening engineering antics; but as tensions heated up in Europe, the men s experiments began to seem less wild to the US government: in 1939, they were awarded $1,000 to conduct research into the development of a rocket plane for use in combat. With the money, the men hired two of their colleagues, Barby and Richard Canright and created a testing site in the Arroyo Seco canyon outside Pasadena. The group, ridiculed by scientists and engineers, and frowned upon by the citizens of Pasadena, had just formed the Jet Propulsion... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the time, if women did choose to pursue a career instead of becoming a housewife, there were only three main paths they could take: schoolteacher, nurse, or secretary. It was just one of the limits of being born a woman (11). Women who chose to rebel even further and attempt to pursue careers in science and technology were greeted with little to no diversity; many of the JPL computers recall being the only woman in a group of men in both classrooms and workplaces (13). And even if they made into a corresponding profession, they had far less chance of being promoted than their male counterparts. Many of the JPL women longed to become engineers, a title with more distinction than that of computers, but not only was engineering considered a man s profession , with women widely discouraged from pursuing careers in it, but most engineering schools in the country wouldn t even accept women. This was a prominent and long standing issue at JPL. When she was hired, Helen Ling s knowledge of math and science was such that if she had been a man applying for the job, she wold likely have been hired as an engineer (118). As such, there wasn t a single female engineer at JPL at the time; Barbara Paulson says that in her mind an engineer was a man , adding even more depressingly that she couldn t imagine that a ... Inside brewery, in an intersection called Five Points housed people of all different diversities. Black, German, Irish even pure American, were huddled together in this dark and dingy brewery where light barely reaches it except through the very windows it holds. This was what the beginning scene would look like in a movie. A specific movie called Gangs of New York directed by Martin Scorsese. The books held facts, details, truths that the movie just couldn t cover in two entire hours. The authors, Gilfoyle, Asbury, and Anbinder showed us just what exactly urban history is like which was honest, not overdramatized, factual, and real. While admittedly a good movie, the Gangs of New York is a great recommendation for fun, but if comparing it with history the movie is just pure fiction. An overdramatized, thug life of a man in past New York seeking revenge for the death of his father by the hands of Bill the Butcher. Understanding history, even if its urban history is no great feat in itself. For example, at the end of the movie there was the grave of the father of Amsterdam Vallen who was the leader of the Dead rabbits. The scene changed and fast forwards through time where the graves began to be covered in grass and weeds till eventually the graves were gone. That scene is just like history, until history is told, it will just sit and eventually be forgotten never to be found again making them details of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Students should have the right to wear any type of attire they desire to because it is a form of expressing their individuality. The Declaration: We hold these principles to be self evident, the dress code is sending an inaccurate message for the reason that it seems to be considered as if it is only applied towards girls, which is miscalculated because boys can wear clothes that remain part of the dress code. • 8. Contributions Of Julius Caesars First triumvirate In 59 BC, two of the wealthiest men in Rome agreed to invest in Julius Caesar. Crassus and Pompey, who despised each other, liked imperium and success more. After having cleansed the Mediterranean from pirates and Mithridates in a sixth of the expected time allotted to him by the Senate, Pompey returned with ships and soldiers. He demanded the senate ratify the acts of settlements he had already determined for his soldiers, but was denied again and again. Crassus wanted relief for the bid the publicani made, tax collectors who failed to gather the money they promised the Senate they would from foreign provinces. Caesar promised to provide both in exchange for patronage to the consulship, as well as gaining his own chosen provincial command to accomodate his own debts. After forfeiting his triumph, Caesar becomes consul and provides his own land bill that accommodates veterans in Campania, fulfilling his deal to Pompey. Caesar knew that the veterans and land owners who were profiting from his bill were also voters. Although Pompey and Crassus were profiting immediately from their dealings in the first triumvirate, Caesar was clearly investing for long term benefits. The pontifix maximus In 63 BC, Caesar managed to be a young man in a very old and prestigious post, the pontifix maximus. Given my thirst for learning, I remember being frustrated leaving the classroom with my head held low and a referral in hand. My teachers would always tell me, your mouth is going to get you in trouble! Yet, I never comprehended how my actions warranted my removal. Raised by a successful Black single mother, she taught me at an early age what it meant to be a Black woman in today s American society. Watching my Black female students endure the same type of pushout from their teachers like I did, I began to question what our educational systems are doing to our girls. Seeking answers, I soon grew frustrated with the lack of gender and race based studies for Black girls in urban school settings. We were trapped in the juncture of race and gender where studies on Black youth focus primarily on issues encountered by Black boys and the studies on girls gives attention to the challenges faced by White girls. Because of the absence of information on Black girls, many often make the assumption that Black girls are not up against some unique challenges of their own which is far from the ... • 11. Intimate Partner Violence Analysis The fifth and sixth themes go hand in hand and deal with the woman being fed up with their circumstances and other stressors. The fifth commonality was that many of the women did not become perpetrators of intimate partner violence until after the birth of their first child. (Seamans, et al., 2007) Of the women who reported this occurrence, they reported that the stress of being a new parent coupled with being a victim of intimate partner violencebecame too much for them. The sixth commonality was based on asking for help, but not getting it. Many of the women in the study reported asking their families, their partner s family, as well as authorities for help. The question many people have now is what to do about traditional treatment s ineffectiveness. Studies show that Behavioral Couples Therapy is extremely effective in reducing violence and aggression in relationships. For something that has such impact on the whole economy in the United States, it is very little known and understood. The Federal Funds Rate may be the most important rate in the country. So what is the Federal Funds Rate? It is an interest rate that is used when banks lend to other banks or other depository institutions from funds that are maintained at the Federal Reserve (Target Rate). The transaction can only be done overnight and by trustworthy institutions. The target rate is determined by the Federal Open Market Committee (Target Rate). They will influence and determine the rate that will be used. So if it doesn t have any first hand impact on a normal consumer or business, why should anyone care about it? The answer to that is simple, the Federal Funds Rate will greatly impact the economy in several areas and it will trickle down onto the normal consumer and business. The Federal Funds Rate will change the economy if it goes up, and if it goes down. As the year runs down, everyone will be watching with a close eye to see what the Fed will do with the rate. The Federal Funds Rate will increase in December of 2016. Why will the Federal Funds Rate increase by the end of the year? • 19. The Motor Control Theory And The Dynamical Systems Theory Comparison of Theories According to Beek, Peper, and Stegeman (1995), the motor control theories provide an explanation on how the nervous system will solve the degrees of freedom problem and serve to direct movement command. The following theories are the generalized motor program theory and the dynamical systems theory. The GMP theory proposes that the movement plan is retrieved from memory within the central nervous system and neural instructions are sent down to the effectors via the efferent pathways. The dynamical systems approach on the other hand, does not propose a hierarchical control, but suggests that movements emerge through self organization of the interaction of the body and environment. It can be said that everybody s bodily movements occur in the context of the everyday functioning of people while realizing specific task goals. As a general, yet acquired rule, such movements involve the participation of multiple joints and limbs. Moreover, when in action, these body parts are coordinated and are brought into proper relation to one another as well as to the surrounding layout of surface. The coordination of these body parts may look relatively simple, as in picking up an object, or relatively complicated, as in juggling, performing an attacking forehand drive in table tennis or playing the drums. As seen in his poem God s Grandeur , Hopkins translated his intense spirituality into poems that explore the relationship between humans and the natural world as an expression of God s divinity. In the poem, Hopkins presents the Victorian fixation on progress and change not as an improvement, but rather as a regression from a constructive communion with God s glory as found in the natural world. Despite Hopkins negative view on the impact of man s progression, he remains confident and appreciative of the protective power of God and the inexhaustibility of nature as further ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here, Hopkins establishes a connection between God s grandeur and light, which he continues in the second stanza with his description of the sunrise brought forth by the possibility of rebirth as well as continuity in nature. Although the sun sets in the black west, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs (12). The sun, a source of energy so far superior to any source to any man made source, becomes an expression of God s care for the Earth, offering the possibility of freshness and growth despite all of man s abuses. Hopkins outlines some of these abuses in the first stanza, in which a rather bleak picture of man s interaction with the earth contrasts to the brightness of God s light. During the Victorian Age of mass production, people gradually drew away from small rural farms into the dismal urban world of factories and mills. Hopkins laments that such so called progress has drawn man away from the land. The sun, God s ultimate source of light and life, shines upon soil that Is bare now, abandoned for the urban life (8). That Hopkins chooses to say now in reference to the barren earth suggests a dramatic and negative change from the past. While not condemning the contemporary changes, Hopkins regrets that man s progress has so negatively impacted both the natural world and man himself. In defining how man s progress leads him away from the God s grandeur, Hopkins lowers the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The supposed faithful friends display their true cruelty and expose their hypocrisy in relation to the Pardoner s character. One main theme in The Wife of Bath s Tale is female dominance and equality. In the tale, the wife portrays her dominance through her own experience. For example, the image of the whip sets her role as master, and she tells everyone that she is the head of her household. Despite her claim that experience is her sole power, the Wife of Bath evidently feels the need to create her authority in a more scholarly manner. She mimics the habits of the scholars and churchmen by supporting her claims with quotations from antique works and scripture. The Wife of Bath apparently attempts to emphasize female dominance over men. She contradicts many of the harsh customs and declares her own haughty assessment of women s function in society and in relationships. Essay On The American Education System America, one of the world s super powers and most prosperous nations, is known for its dominantly huge military, prominent cultural and political influences. Yet, America still ranks only 10th in education worldwide. Why is this? The education system of the US has stayed relatively the same for almost 150 years, with no reform. Outdated methods of teaching are still in practice. Though many may feel that the American educationsystem is a model of success, compared to the educational system of Finland, the American education system is in dire need of change. For one, as stated before, America still uses the same methods of education today as nearly two centuries ago. This is an obvious mistake that could be corrected by proper training of teachers, and higher requirements needed for teaching. The Correlation Between The Number Of Positive Social Essay Abstract This proposal aims to explore the correlation between the number of positive social supports that adolescents between 15 and 18 years old have and their success in achieving sobriety when attending Narcotics Anonymous meetings. Participants will be recruited through an availability sampling method and asked to participatent in this longitudinal research study. As a result, this study will expand on the minimal literature concerning how to best help adolescents that are seeking treatment from drug addiction. Great Effectiveness of Narcotics Anonymous for Adolescents Drug addiction can be a powerful and complex situation for some individuals to gain control of. Research and health professionals have historically shown that 12 step programs provide the tools and healthy social networks that are immensely beneficial to achieving sobriety. However, prior studies have largely focused on these programs effectiveness for adults, whereas younger populations are also seeking treatment for drug addiction. This longitudinal study will have only adolescent participants to enhance the minimal research that has been done on this population. It is relevant to social work because the results of this study will help social workers to better understand that Narcotics Anonymous may be more effective for some adolescents, namely those with many positive social supports as compared to those with few positive social supports. To work in a person centred way, one must develop a clear understanding about the individuals one is supporting. This includes their needs, culture, means of communication, likes and dislikes, their family, colleagues and other professionals one may be working with; so one can promote and provide person centred care and support. There are 8 person centred values that support person centred care and support. These are: Individuality Assumptions should never be made about a person. The person should never have to fit in with you or your organisation/employer. People should be allowed and supported to make their own choices. Care and support needs should be tailored to suit each individual, by checking their care plan, to learn more about them and their likes and dislikes, such as; what food do they like and want to eat, how they want to be addressed (as one should not assume they can call someone by their first name), etc. This shows respect by preserving the individual s dignity and individuality. Their personal beliefs should always be respected. Rights Individuals in one s care should continue to enjoy the same rights as when they were living independently. The early stages of triterpenoid saponin biosynthesis via isoprenoid pathway involve the dimerization of two molecules of farnesyl diphosphate catalyzed by squalene synthase, epoxidase mediated oxidation then produces 2,3 oxidosqualene. The first diversifying step in triterpenoid biosynthesis is the cyclization of 2,3 oxidosqualene a common substrate of oxidosqualene cyclases (OSCs) and a precursor of both triterpenes and sterols [Abe et al., 1993]. The biosynthesis of glycyrrhizin involves the initial cyclization of 2, 3 oxidosqualene by a specific OSC, ОІ amyrin synthase (bAS), to the primarily oleanane triterpene ОІ amyrin which is one of the most commonly occurring triterpenes in plants. The subsequent steps involve a series of oxidative reactions at positions C 11 (two step oxidation) and C 30 (three step oxidation), followed by glycosyl transfers to the C 3 hydroxyl group. He gets you to imagine nature and its beauty, and then writes, No, I am sure it will be none of these. (Johnson, 1923, p. 677). Now that you know it s not nature that he will miss the most, he continues to talk about his city, Manhattan, and that it would be the thing he would miss the most. In David and Goliath, Malcolm Gladwell (the author of Blink and Outliers) explores why the disadvantaged misfits were able to win their greatest opposing giants. Gladwell initiates his discovery with the Biblical story of David, an Israeli shepherd boy, who killed Goliathwith a slingshot. He explains how the chances of the underdogs increase when they fight unconventionally. In our society, our advantages can limit us to do the average rather than find a new way to battle challenges ; so theoretically, disadvantages play to our side .He starts with the first example, In Rosewood High school, Ranadive coached a team of girls who had no talent in... Remote misses overcame their battles because of the unfavorable conditions; Nazis might have been better off if they had never bombed London. Through the book, Gladwell talks about the inverted U curve that resembles a camel s hub. It explains how having too many disadvantages (end of the tip) is as bad as having too many advantages. He describes through statistics how too little classrooms are as bad as a classroom full of 48 students, We have become obsessed with what is good about small classrooms and oblivious about what also can be good about large classes. It s a strange thing isn t it, to have an educational philosophy that thinks of the other students in the classroom with your child as competitors for the attention of the teacher and not allies in the adventure of learning (Gladwell 201). Likewise, we often think poverty is a bad thing, but do not be surprised to know that the richest of all people who drive the nicest of cars came from extreme remote misses of financial shortages. Their harsh childhood has made them motivated to overcome by ways no one can imagine. Gladwell s main purpose was to inform readers that smart can be dyslexic; genius can go to Maryland State rather than Brown (an Ivy League School). For instance, lawyer ... • 55. Disadvantages Of Using Static Analysis In The Computer... Statistic analyze is the computer software analysis performed by not actually executing the software that is being tested. Static analysis doesn t include dynamic execution of the software under test and can detect potential defects in an early stage, prior to running the program. It can be achieved by a machine to automatically walk through the source codeand detect noncomplying codes. A compiler which finds lexical, syntactic and even some semantic mistakes can be given as a classical example. It can find weaknesses in the code at the exact location. Static analysis can also be carried out by a person who would review the code to provide correct coding standards and conventions are used to construct the program. This is generally called Code Review and it is done by a peer developer, someone apart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The defect gets more expensive as long as the defect persists. One of the most crucial advantages of static analysis is the detection of defects earlier during the process when they are easier and more cost effective to fix. Other advantages involves removing program components that are not necessary and ensuring that the software being analyzed is compatible with other programs that are likely to be run concurrently. Another advantage of using static code analysis is you can define your project specific rules, and they will be guaranteed to follow without any manual intervention. In case any team member forgets to follow those rules, static code analyzer will highlight them like fortify or find bugs. As the static testing is faster and achieves 100% coverage, the unit cost of detecting these bugs by static testing is much lower than detecting bugs by dynamic testing. If you have an urgent deadline looming on the horizon, the part where you use dynamic testing tools can be omitted. However, tool supported static testing should in no case be ...
