Recording The Oratorio Song Of The Forests
Prior to composing the oratorio Song of the Forests op. 81 in 1948, Shostakovich
composed the film music Michurin that was about the life of horticulturist Ivan
Vladimirovich Michurin (1855 1935). The film music encouraged Shostakovich to
compose another work based on the same rural theme. Below is his statement during
the aired interview in 1955 that confirms it:
My work in cinematography has proven beneficial for my activity as a composer.
Indeed, a number of my compositions are a direct outcome of my work in the
cinema. For instance, my work on the film Michurin has prompted me to compose
my oratorio the Song of the Forests.
In fact, the lines in song no. 5 Комсомольцы выходят
вперед (Young Communists go forward!) of the oratorio... Show more

Another recycled material is the melody that occurs in the movie between 31 45
and 32 04 on the scene where Michurin and the dignitaries were raising their glasses
in a toast to Michurin s much expected success in developing a new horticultural
technique for the benefit of Russian people. The piano plays the melody as a
background music in the scene. Part of the melody becomes an important recurrent
motive that gives a sense of unity to the oratorio Song of the Forests op. 81 (fig. 2).
The unavailability of the film music score forces the author to assume that the
melody is written in the key of C major as seen in fig. 2 below.
Both the short and the longer versions of the melody, which appear previously in
film music Michurin (fig. 2), appear in all songs of the oratorio and give a sense of
unity. Borrowing the terminology mentioned by Pauline Fairclough, the short
version will be called motive x. Therefore, the full length version will be called
melody x. Motive x starts on the first scale degree and ascends until the fifth scale
degree with a sixth scale degree as a diatonic upper neighbor pitch.According to
Fairclough, motive x connects songs number 1, 6, and 7, and this proves that the
Song of the Forests was composed very carefully. In addition to Fairclough s
statement, motive x actually occurs in other songs as well generating a coherence in
the oratorio. Below is several examples of the utilization of motive x in each song.
Melody x appears
N Sott Momaday The Way To The Rainy Mountain Analysis
These lines extracted from N Sott Momaday s The Way to Rainy Mountain aptly
depict his conception of the reader s role within this multi genre text. Literary Texts
, as famously articulated by Terry Eagleton, are code productive, code transgressive
as well as code confirming...they may teach us new ways of reading , not just
reinforce the ones with which we come equipped . ( Eagleton, 116). Reaffirming this
analogy, Momaday s The Way to the Rainy Mountain empirically proposes to
transgress old codes, disintegrate decisions, eventually leading to a creation of
polyphony within literature by simultaneously performing eternal happening .
Momaday has incessantly stressed upon his ideology associated with the powerful
act of imagination. In an essay entitled Native American Attitudes to the Environment
, he advocates ...we are all....at the most fundamental level what we imagine
ourselves to be..... . ( 80). The same intonation is reiterated in his proverbial lecture
entitled Man made of words where he eloquently elaborates We are what we
imagine. Our very existence consists in our imagination of ourselves . (3). This very
notion finds a stance in the prologue of The Rainy Mountain where he proficiently
assimilates his idiosyncrasies dealing with the creative power of imagination... Show

(Iser, 9)This hypothesis emphatically propagates the phenomenological reader

the extent of reader participation. As one continue through the work, Iser says that

for the 2016 presidential elections. Clinton possesses an advantage above the other
democratic candidates. Being elected would make her the first ever female

However, she does have some roadblocks, including her questionable love life and

In our lifetime people are only consumed with the NBA and what the owners or

African Americans can t just take off their skin and replace it with a color that are
generally public will approve.
No matter if he was poor, an average, person, or the richest person alive, no one has

Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Assessment Analysis
Tests are assessing a person by using many techniques to gather a data. Also, it is a
procedure to make sure the quality, performance, and reliability of something before
using widely. Tests offer an additional venue for helping us understand the ability and
personality of our clients (Neukrug, 2011, p. 397). Tests can be beneficial in goal
setting and treatment planning. In the end of the nineteenth century, Alfred Binet
developed one of the first tests. A test provides only part of the picture about a
person. On the other hand, assessment process combines and evaluates all the
information gathered about an individual or a group of individuals to provide
guidance (U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration, 2006,

religion and different people who practice and believe in these religions. Some

twenty people who were trying to tell me that I was jesus s second coming, it took a

The high cost of mountain bike should deliver such a great wisdom for its owner
to keep it in a perfect condition. Dirts should never ruin its overall performance,
regardless of its easy cleaning by water. But, rust is the real enemy of all kinds of
bike, particularly mountain bike. The real cause of rust is the metal damage due to
excessive chemical substances exposure. Rust always occurs on metal, which is often
exposed to hot and cold temperature continuously. Any mountain bike has a great
probability in getting a strong exposure to the sun, wind, and rain. This is the main
reason, why a mountain bike is prone of rusting. A rainwater, for example, contains

to prevent mountain bike from rusting? #1 Cover It Up Many buyers cover its
newly bought mountain bike, though this habit only lasts for less than a month.
Covering a mountain bike even if it is placed within the garage is the best thing to

Piety In Confucianism
In truth, filial piety, humaneness and reciprocity are three main ideas, which plays
very important role in Confucianism. To begin with, Confucius is a famous
philosopher who gave advices to the rulers and individuals on their behaviors. Worth
to mention, Confucius s teachings were complied in the Analects after his death.
Moreover, Filial Piety means respect for one s parents, and most people is familiar
with that idea in Confucianism. From what I learnt in China, filial is the starting point
of virtue. In addition, I think filial piety is necessary in a family, and the children
should show the respect to their parents. Another importance virtue is reciprocity,
which means one should reply what another person has provided. Furthermore,

My Vacation In Life

an amazing vacation away from home. To arrive in Branson, we first had to drive
down to Missouri in my mom s silver van. As it was my parents, my three brothers,
and me, the car was very crowded with all of our belongings that we needed for the
trip crammed into the car with us. During the long and arduous car ride that
dragged on for hours and hours, we figured out all of the activities that we hope to
attend throughout the week of our trip. After discussing all of our plans, we decide
that we will go to Silver Dollar City, which is an amusement park, a waterpark called
White Water, and many stores including Branson s Landing, Tanger Outlets and the
Five and Dimes store. My dad is very organized, and he is also a perfectionist. He
takes out a yellow lined notebook and writes down a list of everything we are
going to do for each day of the four day long vacation. As he finishes, we finally
arrive in Branson, so we quickly check in, grab our room keys, and take all of our
belongings up to our room. In my opinion, I believe that unpacking everything and
taking it up the five flights of stairs where our room is located is the worst part of the

The information system is a combination of software, hardware, data, people and
procedure. It is not solely depending on the technology, interactions between people
also counts. In this case, multiple reasons have caused the situation in this case: (1)
Ignorance of the real situation: The new technology may meet the needs of the
hotel. However, the task stated by the GM can be done in a much easier and
cheaper ways. For example, they can require employees to use written form reports
in order to reduce the slippage percentage and reoccurring problems. Reporting every
problem real time may cause extra work for maintenance. Gathering all the
problems in a period of time and report them afterward may be more efficient,
besides, the additional cost can be greatly reduced. (2) Did not take employees into
consideration: In this case I am aware that the employees are interested in the new
technology first, but soon lose that interest . It could be caused by the hard operation
of the new system, thus the teaching may took a long time. While the old method is
much easier and have been used for a long period, to change this habit can be tough.
(3) Time limitation: We can see from the case that Blake only have one week to do
his job. Although main research has been done during this time including the funding
investment and negotiation with vendor, there is no time and chance for field test.
The whole project is theoretical. (4) Overestimate and underestimate the

Rethinking Normal By Katie Rain Hill
Rethinking Normal is a coming of age story about transcending physical
appearances and redefining the parameters of normalcy to embody one s true self.
Katie Rain Hill memoir on her transition discussed what normal is and how she
came to understand that normalcy was completely based on what each person
individually makes of it. The title of this book is the perfect description of Katie s
struggle in accepting herself despite the opinions of others. Rethinking Normal is a
symbol of transitioning and accepting your true self as normal despite
contradictions from peers, doctors, parents and society. It encompasses the
struggles of transgenders and any person who isn t conventional in rediscovering
their true selves. Rethinking Normal is the perfect way to describe the author s
development of redefining and recreating herself despite the pressure of others to
be normal, as well as Katie s personal struggle in finding her true self while
discovering that normalcy should be based on how people feel about themselves
rather than how others perceptions. The most important thing is she made me feel

This book explores the reader to rethink their opinions on social and physical
normality. The title suggests that normality shouldn t be defined so critically and
that those of diversity and marginalization should be included. In this instance, the
focus is upon the normalcy of those who are transgender. One image of us that went
viral showed us standing in our bathing suits with the caption: Does this couple look
normal? Because they are. The intention of the caption may have been good, but
what did it even mean by normal? That we passed as cisgender? Were
heterosexual?? White? Able bodied? Attractive? If one of us hadn t been any of those
things, would they still have called us normal? pg
Should Juveniles be Tried in the Adult Criminal Justice...
Imagine sitting in a courtroom, hoping the the judge will not give a harsh sentence.
Unfortunately, that s the case for many juveniles, some as young as 13! A juvenile is
subject to a more severe sentence with the limited sentencing available. It is estimated
that 250,000 youth are prosecuted as adults, each year. This number should change,
as juveniles are not adults, both mentally and physically. Juveniles need an
environment surrounded with guiding adults, education and the resources to help
them. A juvenile is not an adult, and should not be tried as one.
The environment in adult facilities is immensely different from juvenile facilities.
Rehabilitation options are limited in adult facilities. It is hard for children to fit in
with adults, or even be respected. Lack of attention and bullying are both major
problems for juveniles in prison (Human Rights Watch). Juveniles in prison have a
18x greater risk of committing suicide, due to lack of supervision (Juvenile Forensic
Evaluation Center) However, juvenile facilities provide higher quality education,
adequate health care, and better security. 70% of juveniles are held under locked
situations, rather than staff secure settings (Juvenile Forensic Evaluation Center).
This decreases the amount of violence between juveniles and the staff. Since
depression is a common health issue, juvenile facilities often have treatment
available. Giving a juvenile the resources to help, can really benefit them at this
Analysis Of A Room With A View By E. M. Forster
In A Room with a View, author E.M. Forster contrasts Florence, Italy and Surrey,
England in an attempt to reveal the interests and desires of Lucy Honeychurch, the
main character. Forster does this through showing differences between what each
country represents, Lucy s suitors, and the expectations of men and women in each
location. The differences between the countries show how the life Lucywants to live
and the life she is expected to live differ, and how these differences ultimately
contribute to the meaning of the work.
Each country in the novel represents a conflict in Lucy s life. While in Italy, Lucy is
given the freedom to roam and explore as she pleases. On page 30 it states, I think I

Cecil, on the other hand, believes women are the lesser sex and wants to offer
Lucy less independence because of it. So ran her thoughts, while her faculties
were busy with Cecil...When he was cross he was always elaborate, and made
long, clever answers where Yes or No would have done, as stated on page 109. This
passage shows Cecil s unnecessary pretentiousness, and it reveals that Lucy not only
notices his attitude, she finds it distasteful. George, on the other hand, is proven to be
joyous and free. This can be shown on page 105, He smiled, flung himself at them,
splashed them, ducked them, kicked them, muddied them, and drove them out of the
pool. The actions listed describe George s behavior in the pond. He is out there
simply enjoying life, and that is the personality Lucy finds herself wanting. That is
the kind of personality that matches Italy, as it fosters independence and joy. This
contradicts England and Cecil, both of which foster pretentious behavior and a stuffy
environment.
Once Part II of the novel is reached, the book transitions from Italy to England. The
attitude and atmosphere shifts, but so do expectations of women. On page 96 it
states, At last she longed for attention, as a woman should, and looked up to him
because he is a man. This sentence is referring to Lucy and Cecil. This is a
representation of England because sentences like this are not found in Part I of this
book, only in Part

Use Of Film As A Propaganda Tool
Introduction
Propaganda, can be defined as the capacity of a person to produce and disseminate
attractive and reproducible messages that once seeded they will greatly influence
human cultures.
The end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century were periods during which
propagandistic activities flourished. The development of mass media along with
unprecedented advances in transportation and communication, due to innovative new
technologies that came with industrial revolution, resulted to the formation of mass
audiences for propaganda, in all sectors and for different purposes. All different
media such as print, films, radio and television contributed to this new era, offering
their unique characteristics for exploitation. In this essay, I am going to focus on the
particular use of film as a propaganda tool.
A propaganda film, can take either the form of a documentary film production or a
fictional screenplay that aims at convincing the audience about certain issues. They
can be driven by politics, social conflicts, environmental problems or simply personal
incentives. Propagandistic content in films can be realistic so as to reflect actual
problems and/or situations or specifically formed aiming at misleading large masses
of the population on certain matters and alter their perception.
The first acknowledged propaganda film was a series of short silent films, produced
during the Spanish American war in 1898 by the Vitagraph Studios. Moreover, in
1918, Charlie

Naturalization Act Of 1790
America, like most countries, builds walls to keep immigrants out. Israel, in
contrast, measures how a year s success based on the number of immigrants that
make their way to their country (Senor Singer, 2009). In Israel, nine out of ten
Jewish Israelis are first or second generation immigrants, making the majority of the
country either foreign born or directly related to someone who is. In comparison to
the United States, Israelis a country of immigrants and, much like New York of the

and Israel today experience a large influx of immigrants, the Israeli government
sharply differs from the U.S. in the ways it deals with those who receive citizenship.
The U.S., like most other nations, offers no special assistance to immigrants once
they have been granted citizenship. Conversely, Israel has an entire ministry
dedicated to immigrant absorption. The ministry seeks to aid new immigrants for
their first three weeks of Israeli citizenship. It helps them find employment and
housing accommodation while simultaneously giving advice on education and
planning. The ministry claims it offers new immigrants services such as training and
counseling for successful integration in employment, vocational ulpan as well as
licensing and retraining courses, and assistance in job placement (Employment
Absorption, n.d.). In regard to housing, the ministry offers rental assistance,
mortgages, and public housing (Housing for new immigrants, n.d.). Finally, the
Ministry of Aliyah Immigrant Absorption offers new immigrants what is known as
the Absorption Basket, which consists of various benefits such as a variety of tax
breaks and grants to help new citizens ease their way into Israeli society. For
example, immigrating couples are handed 2,500 shekels when they land at the
airport, 3,800 shekels deposited in their bank accounts, and 4,800 shekels each month

Companion Care Research Paper
Companion Care and the Benefits of Companionship Services A very long time
ago a wise man named Aristotle noted that human beings were social animals . As
such, he surmised, they sought out companionship to enhance their well being.
Humans who did not have access to plentiful social situations did not have the
same levels of well being as those who did. Modern psychologists have backed
upped Aristotle s thoughts with science. It turns out that positive social interactions
truly are linked to both psychological benefits and overall health. Sadly, as we age,
many of our social companions move on. They either move away or pass away.
Even our families tend to thin out as children leave the family nest, divorce or illness

This means that companion care personnel can help your senior loved one with
their daily living activities, but they also help keep your senior loved one socially
active. There is simply no substitute for a set of listening ears or the comfort of a
strong shoulder. Many home service agencies provide assistance with cleaning or
other chores, but companion care goes several steps beyond performing work
around the house. Companions don t just cook meals, they engage with your loved
one during the planning of the meal, the shopping, the preparation, and the
cleanup. They try to restore some of the social elements of family life that are now
missing. This difference cannot be overstated as seniors do not want to feel as if
they are a burden. The psychological benefits of being a valued part of the process
elevates their dignity and increases the quality of their life. The emotional support
that is provided through companion care helps your loved one stay healthy
physically, emotionally, and psychologically. Sometimes, just having regular
conversations, listening, and being encouraging can make a world of difference to a
senior who is otherwise alone. Studies clearly show that keeping mentally alert and
engaged wards off dementia, depression, and increases overall enjoyment of
Bookkeeping and Record Keeping Basics
Bookkeeping and Record Keeping Basics
Adapted from content excerpted from the American ExpressВ® OPEN Small

Proper bookkeeping is important to sustaining and expanding a business. Without it,
you run the risk of hitting cash flow crunches, wasting money, and missing out on
opportunities to expand. When you are devising or revising your bookkeeping
routine, remember that the purpose of bookkeeping is to help you manage your
business and to enable tax agencies to evaluate your business activity. As long as
your bookkeeping achieves both of these objectives, it can and should be as simple
as possible.
The general guidelines here outline what you must take care of and provide ideas for

Keep a log of each category of expense, for tax purposes and write yourself a check
for the total. Write cash reimbursable in your check register to differentiate this
from taxable income. Alternatively, you can keep a petty cash record by writing a
check to petty cash and keeping a log of each expense paid out of petty cash.
Inventory Records
Keeping on top of your inventory records will enable you to prevent pilferage, keep
inventory holdings to a minimum, and track buying trends, among other things.
If you sell a large number of small ticket items for example, as in a stationary store
you might want to use a computer system to track inventory or tie your computer
system into your sales by having a POS (point of sale) inventory system. If you sell
larger ticket items you may be able to do it yourself on paper.
The crucial inventory information you need to capture is: date purchased, stock
number of item purchased, purchase price, date sold, and sale price.
Accounts Receivable
If your products or services are paid for at time of delivery, you will not need an
accounts receivable tracking system. However, if you provide services or products
for which people pay you at a later date, your accounts receivable records keep track
of what is owed to you. You can monitor accounts receivable by holding on to a
copy of all invoices sent out or by keeping an accounts receivable record. Either way,
the information you need to capture includes: invoice date,

As a coach I would prepare for the meeting by taking a self evaluation (self talk) to

Stopping Plant Junipers, Some Pines, And Evergreens
Avoiding to plant junipers, some pines, and evergreens is a good idea because the
chemical content in these plants is extremely flammable. New Mexico Association of
Counties implies, Deciduous trees and shrubs are the best for firewise plants. Many
needled trees contain a highly flammable chemical content. Sedums are among the
good groundcover plants due to the fact that they keep flames low to the ground and
from spreading because of the high water content. Planting things in shaded areas
around the yard is also helpful because dead plant material collects everywhere.

Barkley et al claim that from past vegetation, charcoal, layers in the soil, fire scars on
trees, the aged forests, and records of past explorers that wildfire has been naturally

In order to save lives and property from wildfire, people need to become educated on
how to adapt to living in areas with a high risk of wildfires. Being able to adapt to
living the way many prefer means taking responsibility for what is in order to defend
the forest and natural lands.
Overwhelmingly, idahofirewise.org reports that most grass, brush, and forest fires
are started by people. Between 87 and 96 percent of wildfires are human ignited,
and only about 20 percent are intentional. Most human caused fires are accidental
or related to careless disposals of hot embers, ash, or cigarettes. This is a shocking
statistic about how carelessness is a major contributing factor and can be blamed for
many of the fires that occur each year throughout the country. This is why knowledge
of firewise is so important because it can help to prevent many of these fires due to
carelessness.
It is a strange thought that America s population is only going to expand, and more
and more people are building houses or cabins in the forest to escape the compacted
communities of cities. So in turn, this means that
The Invention Of Skateboard In The 1940 s
Around the time of the 1940 s was when the first ever skateboard was made. In the
early 1940 s and 1950 s many surfers in California wanted something to do when the
waves were flat which mean, they weren t able to surf. The people who supposedly
came up with the idea were a few surfers who wanted to be able to do something
similar as they did in the water. Skateboarding history still has a mysterious origin.
No one to this day knows who actually invented the skate board. Several people have
claimed to have made the skateboardbut nothing has been proven. In 1965 skate
boarding s popularity began to reach its s top. First skateboarders started with

Some skateboarders also own longboards, and love longboarding just as much as

stable and secure because of their length. And not only can they be used for
enjoyment, but they also help you save gas when you commute. An old school
skateboard is extremely different from the skateboards of today. Old school
skateboards normally are talking about skateboards that were popular in the past
and are not really used today. They are sometimes known as classic skateboards.
The term Old school skateboards is usually used to talk about any skateboard that

Rana Plaza Collapse Essay
A Discussion on Rana Plaza Collapse
Introduction
The aim of this report is to discuss the collapse of Rana Plaza in Bangladesh, in what
is to date the worst structural engineering failure. The failure caused significant losses
of lives, (1129 lives), over 2500 non fatal injuries and five garment industries lost their
machinery, and the building was entirely destroyed as well. The report also
demonstrates that the collapse of Rana Plaza was due to primary causes of
engineering failures. These include; human factors like negligence and poor review
of safety protocol, design flaws, for example, poor material choice and unethical
practices, insufficient consideration of surrounding systems, for instance, vibration
frequencies, and finally, a combination of the three causes.
Background
At about 9 o clock in the morning on the 24th day of April 2013, Rana Plaza, an
eight story commercial building in Savar, Bangladesh collapsed. The search for
survivors and the late ended twenty days, later on, may 13th. A total of 1129 lives
were lost, and 2,515 people were injured (Than, 2013). The building housed a
shopping mall, a bank and several shops on its lower floors while from the third floor
through to the eighth floor it housed five garment factories. A majority of the people
who died were factory workers who had reported for the morning shift which begun at
eight o clock in the morning. The Bangladesh garment manufacturers and exporters
association president confirmed that 3,122

biggest impact he has made to this day is inspire people to do what they believe
and follow their dreams. He gave people hope and things to look forward to. He
gave people their happy place that they could not find before all in his music and
life. One of his most famous sayings that inspired people was, When you make art
you get really invested in it, but when you make art by accident and you are just
along for the ride it is way more fun and that is where people should be (Stump).
When he knew he started becoming a role model for people, he started pulling
little tricks on his friends to see if they would notice. Then he used those tricks to
teach himself, his friends, and the people all over the world valuable lessons. The
big impact that Patrick Stump has on the world is making people go after what they
believe. He did not just influence other people s lives but his as well. He used what
he did to make a better life for himself. He chose better role models, did not go into a

Mothers in Jane Austen s Sense and Sensibility Essay
Mothers in Jane Austen s Sense and Sensibility
I can no more forget it, than a mother can forget her suckling child . Jane Austen
wrote these words about her novel, Sense and Sensibility, in a letter to her sister
Cassandra in 1811. Such a maternal feeling in Austen is interesting to note,
particularly because any reader of hers is well aware of a lack of mothers in her
novels. Frequently we encounter heroines and other major characters whom, if not
motherless, have mothers who are deficient in maturity, showing affection, and/or
common sense. Specifically, I would like to look at Sense and Sensibility, which,
according to Ros Ballaster s introduction to the novel, is full of, indeed over crowded
with, mothers (vii). By ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like Marianne, Mrs. Dashwood is romantic and whimsical, more prone to act on
feelings than reason. Also similar to her youngest daughter, she often misjudges both
the characters and situations of individuals. When Elinor tells Marianne of the
difficulties Mrs. Ferrars presents in marrying Edward, Marianne was astonished to
find how much the imagination of her mother and herself had outstripped the truth
(18). Furthermore, Mrs. Dashwood s reaction to Willoughby is just as naГЇve as
Marianne s. In Mrs. Dashwood s opinion, he was as faultless as in Marianne s (43). It
is only Elinor, acting with the maternal caution her mother does not possess, who has
reservations about Marianne s suitor.
Thus, Mrs. Dashwood clearly fails as an authority figure for her children. She does
not discourage them from acting recklessly (such as Marianne s trip to Miss Smith
s home with Willoughby without a chaperone), nor does she provide the sort of
structure or discipline that would prevent such situations from arising in the first
place. She does, however, possess the nurturing and affectionate disposition that
allows us to see her as, if not always a good mother, at least a loving and well
intentioned one. When Marianne becomes ill, it is only her mother s presence that
can put her at ease: Marianne s ideas were still, at intervals, fixed incoherently on her
mother (264).

Factors Affecting The Human Capacity
Introduction:
The experiment involves test subjects with different heights blowing into same
elasticity balloons in one breath to discover if there are any correlations between
human s vital capacity and height. This experiment is categorized as biology as
vital capacity is due to lungs and lungs are organs in a human body. Vital capacity
is the amount of air that can be forcibly expelled from the lungs after breathing in
as deeply as possible. The vital capacity is about 4,800 mL (4.8L) for an average
human, which is the total amount of air that can be expired after fully inhaling. The
vital capacity is= approximately 80 percent of total lung capacity. = Tidal volume +
inspiratory reserve volume + expiratory reserve volume The total lung capacity
(TLC) is the volume of air contained in the lungs after maximal inspiration plus
residual volume and for an average male is around 6000ml (6L). To remain a fair
test, many factors could affect one s vital capacity. Pregnancy for woman would
decreases her vital capacity as during pregnancy the diaphragm is compressed by the
uterus, which decreases total lung capacity. Pulmonary diseases such as asthma,
Bronchitis, Common Cold, Lung cancer and other diseases can also affect vital
capacity. Asthma restricts the airway allowing less air to pass through to their lungs
which unable their lungs to stretch as much. Previous researches has shown
woodwind and digeridoo players have larger lung capacity due to their experience and
A Comparison Of Creation In Genesis 1
The Bible has two accounts of creation the first centeres in Genesis 1, which is a
very linear 7 day timeline. Compared to the second creation story in Genesis 2,
which is a much more literary focused story, with characters that possess story arcs
that can be interpreted. God comes alive in this story and there are themes and
motifs that are being wrestled with by the writer and reader. Similarly, the story of
the Enuma Elish follows a story filled with characters and results is the creation of
humans as a byproduct of the Gods struggles. In Genesis 1:1 2.4a the witting style
possess a very linear feel to God s creation of the known world. God starts on day 1
and continues to create till day 6, then he rests on day 7. This linear approach
gives the story a complete feeling with a start and an end presented to the reader, it
leaves some questions, but the interpretation is quite cut and dry or mythological.
(class notes) Haur and Young say that the days are numbered like the scenes of a
drama (Hauer and Young 50) Gen , gives us a drama that focuses on a setting
created for humans to conquer and use for our own ends. In Genesis 1, God is given
a very omniscient, all powerful and divine characteristics. He is controlling
everything, which is occurring in these 6 days of creation and him alone. God is
instructing all living and nonliving things how to organize and is creating this world
for humans. The order of creation starts with light and end with humans. This quick
Religious Beliefs In Hinduism
Hinduism has arguably the most convoluted history of all major religions in the
world; like every other religion, it surely has been sculpted by a plethora of cultural
pressures. But unlike any other major religion, Hinduism comprises of innumerable
gods, an untold amount of scriptures, and countless rituals. Even within the Hindu
triumvirate, which consists of three gods, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, who are
responsible for the creation, upkeep and destruction of the world, people hold
different beliefs about what exactly they signify.
As one might imagine, there is an immense spectrum of artistic depictions of these
gods. Yet the icon emblematic to not only Hinduismbut to India itself is the god with
many limbs, adorned with and framed by extravagant jewels and allegorical figures.
Artisans meticulously craft their work when depicting these gods, premediating
every detail and their symbolic implications. Even so, interpretations on these pieces
may vary greatly depending on the beliefs of the person being asked.
Of the three deities composing the Hindu triumvirate, Shiva is the most paradoxical:
he is both the destroyer and the restorer, the great ascetic and the symbol of
sensuality, the benevolent herdsman of souls and the wrathful avenger. (*)
According to Hindu belief, Shiva s destructive power is not arbitrary, but
constructive; he destroys the delusions and fallibilities of man to make way for
beneficial change. Shiva is therefore seen as the source of both good
What Features Of American Society Seem Most For
Trouble...
1. What features of American society seem most to trouble the authors of the Port
Huron Statement? When writing the Port Huron Statement, its authors explicitly
mentioned two key features of American society that they found troubling. First, they
considered the presence of racism and overall bigotry in the American South as ...the
permeating and victimizing fact of human degradation (Foner 283). The authors
acknowledged the presence of practices that essentially dehumanized African
Americans in the South, claiming that its existence is what ...compelled most of us
from silence to activism (Foner 283). In addition to this, the authors of the Port
Huron Statement were also troubled by the existence of the atom bomb and the
possibility that an all out nuclear war could break out at any given moment. It is
stated that the presence of the bomb brought awareness that ...we ourselves, and our
friends, and millions of abstract others...might die at any time (Foner 283). While
contemplating the aforementioned problems in American society, the authors of the
Port Huron Statement also began to rethink the American ideal that all men are
created equal , finding paradoxes between the claim and what was really occurring in
American society. They stated that the declaration ...rang hollow before the facts of
Negro life in the South (Foner 283) and was contradicted by the United States
...economic and military investments in the Cold War status quo (Foner 283). These

that I had met in each week. Now, I am going to identify essential personal learning
outcomes from those events and will include personal awareness of strengths and
weaknesses. Among the different models of reflection, I will use the Gibbs model of
reflectionwhich entails six stages such as description, feelings, evaluation, analysis,
conclusion, action plan.
Description
In the past six weeks while I was on placement, I was able to critically reflect on my
performance on a weekly basis. I was able to pin point my own practises that breached
the infection control protocol such as forgetting to put on gloves when I administered
intramuscular injection as well as not wearing the personal protective equipment
when entering into the room for a contact precaution patient. Some situations not only
gave me an opportunity to learn from others but also to seek feedback to improve my
communication skills especially in providing health education to indigenous patients.
Lastly, there were instances that my critical thinking was challenged and I was able
to prevent an event that could endanger a patient s life by advocating for the patient.
Feelings
In every situation I have met, there was always a positive and some negative
emotions. Sometimes I got anxious when my facilitator was around while doing
health education to a patient and also got nervous that it makes my hands shake when

The Effects Of School Shooting
In Littleton, Colorado, April 20, 1999, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris killed
thirteen people and wounded more than 20 people at Columbine High School
(History.com 1). This act of violence affected many people directly. The families,
friends, classmates, and school faculty were directly affected by it because they
personally knew the victims and the shooters. This massacre is still an important
event to remember to this day. Many people can learn from what happened and the
causes for this act. Schools in the United States have also been greatly affected by
it by enforcing school to not tolerate disruptive behavior and bullying (4). Because
of the Columbine shooting, there have been quite a few changes with schools and
security (Criminal Justice Degrees Guide 1). Since the massacre, security at
schools has heightened to the point where schools have installed metal detectors
and security cameras (1). Here at De Queen High School, like in many other
schools, have installed security cameras and have hired cops to patrol around the
school in order to attempt to keep the school as safe as possible. The shooting at
Columbine High School has by far been one of the worst school shootings in U.S.
history that have made a great impact on many others. This school shooting is very
significant because during the 1900s school shootings were not something that
people were worried about all the time, The crime was the worst high school shooting
in U.S. history and prompted a national

Kyle is modeled after Matt Stone and this character also displays a certain amount

between Stan and Kyle. Since the creators are best friends from college, in many
of the episodes there is a reference to their undying friendship, They have their

Kyle Broflovski is based on Matt Stone and displays great signs of friendship with

called Harrison Bergeron was sent to prison without a trial because the
government believed that he was planning to overthrow the government but later
on he escapes. It also explains that Harrison goes to the TV studio where a
ballerina had given the news to the public and claims that he is the Emperor of
everyone. He soon told everyone that he was going to select an Empress and so, a
ballerina stood up and became his Empress. Harrison and the ballerina soon started
to dance and kissed. As they were dancing Diana Moon Glampers, the Handicap
General, came in and shot both Harrison and the ballerina and command everyone
who had their handicaps off to put them on before they too get shot. The was a what

For example, one law that was violated was amendment VI.(n.d., 1791) This law was
violated when the handicap General didn t give Harrison Bergeron a trial and instead
killed him. (Vonnegut, 1961) Another law that was violated was amendment
VIII.(n.d., 1791) This law was violated when the Handicap General used cruelty
punishment which was death.(Vonnegut, 1961) These were some laws that were
violated.
To solve the problems in Harrison Bergeron I have proposed a new legislation.
This new legislation is explaining that law enforcement may not kill a person
before going to trial to find the person s correct and fair punishment. What this
legislation is saying that no police officer, sheriff, or etc. are allowed to kill a
person before going to trial to find the accused person correct punishment. There will
be no exceptions in this law. This is the new legislation I have
Media Propaganda
Media propaganda
Propaganda is a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitude of a
community toward some cause or position.
As opposed to impartially providing information, propaganda, in its most basic sense,
presents information primarily to influence an audience. Propaganda often presents
facts selectively (thus possibly lying by omission) to encourage a particular
synthesis, or uses loaded messages to produce an emotional rather than rational
response to the information presented. The desired result is a change of the attitude
toward the subject in the target audience to further a political agenda. Propaganda
can be used as a form of political warfare.
While the term propaganda has acquired a strongly negative ... Show more content on

The Creel Commission provided themes for speeches by four minute men at public
functions, and also encouraged censorship of the American press. The Commission
was so unpopular that after the war, Congress closed it down without providing
funding to organize and archive its papers.
The war propaganda campaign of Lippmann and Bernays produced within six months
such an intense anti German hysteria as to permanently impress American business
(and Adolf Hitler, among others) with the potential of large scale propaganda to
control public opinion. Bernays coined the terms group mind and engineering consent
, important concepts in practical propaganda work. The file Century of the Self by
Adam Curtis documents the immense influence of these ideas on public relations and
politics throughout the last century.
The current public relations industry is a direct outgrowth of Lippmann s and
Bernays work and is still used extensively by the United States government. For the
first half of the 20th century Bernays and Lippmann themselves ran a very
successful public relations firm. World saw continued use of propaganda as a
weapon of war, both by Hitler s propagandist Joseph Goebbels and the British
Political Warfare Executive, as well as the United States Office of War Information.
In the early 2000s, the United States government developed
Colours
Have you ever thought that perhaps, the only colour in real life is white? White
light is indeed the bearer of all colours. The colours we see are reflections bouncing
off an object or are the light source itself. The light sources change and the colours
with them. Colour is not a stable affair. Colour is lightalone, but our experience is so
direct that we trust our eye and believe that a colour is inherent to an object. Imagine
living in a world where everything is white in colour!
However, the world we live in is, thankfully, full of colours, and they trigger
emotional responses as they influence our feelings and us. Interestingly, colours can
sway thinking, change actions, and cause reactions. It can irritate or soothe your eyes,

There are also different meanings when you wear a certain coloured cloth. For
example, during the Elizabeth era, the colours of clothing worn provided instant
information about the person wearing them. A man or women who wore purple
clothes would be immediately recognized as a member of royalty. Gold, silver,
crimson or scarlet, deep indigo blue, violet colours and even deep black and pure
white colours were only worn by the highest nobility in the land. The colours of
Elizabethan clothes provided information about the status of the man or woman
wearing them. This was not just dictated by the wealth of the person, it also reflected
their social standing.
An interesting fact about colours is that certain colours can reduce energy
consumption! The scientific fact is that white reflects the radiant energy rays of
the sun and black absorbs them. The same principle has a significant impact on a
house. The hotter the roof is, the hotter the air in the rooms below and the hotter
the air is, the cooler we will on our air conditioners, thus, making use of more
energy. However, light coloured roofing are like a white shirt for your house
because they reflect radiant energy. Even a light grey hue is better than a blue or
green. There are also the symbolic meanings for colours in dreams. The purpose of
colour in a dream is to act as a healing agent or guide. The character in the dream
who wears the colour and the position of the colour relative to the dreamer are

Fisher is widely regarded for his theory of interest and capital. He was strongly
influenced by John Rae and Eugene von Bohm Bawerk, clarifying and combined
their two theories. He first expressed the theory of capital, investment and interest
rates in 1906 in a book titles, The Nature of Capital and Income as well in 1907 The

Great Depression which summarized his life work on capital, credit markets and

I. Introduction
Bridging the distance between nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Gerard Manley
Hopkins poetry is of great significance. As often the case with innovators and artists
who are ahead of their times, Gerard Manley Hopkins was torn by contradictions and
his poems regarded as unconventional for the historical period. His works are
specifically marked by the varied use of linguistic features and rhythmic patterns
which did not match the traditional writing styles of the ... Show more content on

Some of the recurrent themes and motifs in Hopkins poetry include the idea that the
world resembles a book written by God, through which he expresses himself in order
to provide humans with an opportunity to understand and approach him (Gardner
11). In God s Grandeur Hopkins can be seen to express his concern about the
spiritual crisis of the Victorian period. During this time of urbanization and
industrialization, Hopkins voiced his distress about human indifference to
destruction. This poem is one of the very few which he wrote during the time when
he served as a priest.
The form of God s Grandeur is an Italian sonnet, but with some alteration. Even
though Hopkins does not use sprung rhythm here, he varies his sonnet structure from
the traditional iambic pentameter. Typically, a sonnet contains 3 quatrains (4
lines) and a couplet (2 lines); the Italian sonnet is characterized by having 1 octave
(8 lines) and 1 sestet (6 lines). In God s Grandeur a similar pattern is followed,
however, Hopkins presents a technique he often employs in other works as well, that
of using the octet to present a personal or a sensory experience and the octet in order
to provide some reflection on the topic (Gardner 221).
God s Grandeur paints a poignant image of the destructiveness of contemporary
human life, in particular, in the second quatrain. The second quatrain also presents a
feature that is specific for Hopkins and different from the rhythm of the Italian
Pandas Behavior
Despite the fact, that pandas spend most of their lives walking around the forest
floor and eating bamboo, they can swim and climb. They utilize their climbing
skills the most because they do not hibernate, instead they move in higher altitudes
in the winter and lower altitudes in summer, this is also another way they can run
away from predators, and avoid top competitors. The Pandas behavior is very calm,
a low in stress life because they cannot afford to lose their energy they gain from
their poorly nutritional diet. The panda prefers to live alone and often scratches
trees, or marks the territory with secretion from the sweat glands to avoid other
pandas. However, sometimes the giant pandas are kind by sharing both rooms and
foods with pigs

The Pros And Cons Of Under Armour
Under Armour has severely limited its product offerings due to its primary target
market, which is geared mainly towards male athletes, aged 12 24. Their lack of
diversity is a notable competitive disadvantage to industry rivals Nike and Adidas.
However, we have recently witnessed the growth in demand for athletic wear apparel
6% (Marc Bain), as well as the growth in female sports engagement across the United
States (Statista). A potential strategic alternative could be to significantly expand on
their athletic apparel line. This expansion would primarily targetfemale athletes within
the same male target range. In order to enhance the success in this field, they should
continue to add to the eight women (Under Armour Roster) who are currently apart
of the Under Armour endorsement roster.
Pros and Cons Analysis 1:
In our first strategy we suggest that Under Armour expands their women s line to tap
its thriving market segment. Nike s women s department accounted for $5.7 billion
in fiscal 2015 in comparison to $4.5 billion in 2013. In recent years, women have
transitioned to wearing athletic apparel as leisurewear. Lululemon, a flagship store
known for it women s athletic apparel has incurred an annualized growth rate of
23.5% over the past five years (Soni). There is surely a strong market for women s
athletic apparel. With such strong growth in the industry over the past few years, the
competition is beginning to establish their place in the market. With Nike s and
The Influence Of Guilt In Russian Literature
Russian Literature is dark and mysterious. Stalin made Russian Literature so dark
because he would kill anyone to get what he wanted. Also the camps in Siberia
would make people follow the government and make them only be able to share
their feelings through their writings. Many things in Russian Literature can
influence a society because of the lessons they learn, the guilt we feel, and the
greed we have. Most stories have a lesson in the end, but a specific type of story is
a parable. Parables is a short story which tells the reader a moral or lesson. Some
russian literature uses parables like the ones in the bible. One parable in russian
literature was The Bet . The Bet was a parable because it tells a lesson on how
valuable knowledge and the afterlife is, instead of money. During this story it
makes the reader feel as if he or she should change their lives because they value
money and possessions too much. It makes them rethink and reevaluate their lives
and get a new perspective. Russian Literature uses a lot of lessons deep into the story
to get the reader thinking about their own life.... Show more content on

People experience guilt once they have done wrong. When guilt creeps upon them it
consumes them and controls their lives. Some Russian authors have used this tactic
of guilt to draw in their society and make them change or make them want to fix
things in Russia. One specific woman who has used this was Anna Ahkmatova in
her poem I m Not One Of Those Who Left Their Land . When she says I m not one
of those who left their land To the mercy of the enemy. (Ahkmatova) she makes the
reader feel guilty and that they have just abandoned their whole country and all of
their friends. This tactic of guilt works extremely well in Russia because they know
they should be helping but they do
The Importance Of The Tower Of Babel
The most segregated place is Sunday service, what does that say about the God you
worship? Lecrae; Dirty Water
Too many one might think that the Tower of Babel is about God punishing people,
and in a way it was. The confusion that God placed on the people was something
made to humble the people trying to be at the same height of God. But the realities are
that we have made strides in the list of human achievements that have surpassed the
height of the tower of Babel, and through that singular event, culture had erupted
onto the earth.
The shift of being like God has changed from a physical one to a psychological one.
Our idea of our ability to be god like has inflated people in our lives. From the people,
we expect evil from like Hitler and Stalin, and from people who might not be as
obvious as religious leaders and people in mentoring positions in our lives.
We don t worship for God, but for ourselves was a quote from Joel Osteen s Wife, her
message is a simple one worship God for the feelings that derive from it, not to elicit
humbling praise for the grace that God has hand delivered us.
The dislocation in the church has been something of an issue since the beginning of
the church in Acts. Steven was killed giving a list of issues that he found in the
church (Acts 7), and Martin Luther, and many other have died at the hands of the
church. Yet, my statement remains; Our battle has changed from a physical one to a
psychological one.

Identity Through Walking And Isolation
Identity through Walking and Isolation
Self discovery of your identity can be a lengthy process that requires a lot of time
and isolation in order to find out who you are. Isolation is key while finding out your
identity because it requires you to think for yourself without any outside influences.
Walking alone is a great way to free your mind and look at your surroundings to find
out who you are. In The Solitary Stroller and the City Rebecca Solnit talks about
experiencing finding herself while walking alone through the city. She talks about
being in a state of solitude in a city full of people. In The Curious Incident of the Dog
in the Night time by Mark Haddon, Christopher is isolated due to the fact that he has
Asperger s Syndrome. He finds himself through utilizing the world around him. The
Solitary Stroller and the City and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time
both demonstrate that walking and isolation are essential to discovering a personal
self identity.
In The Solitary Stroller in the City Solnit writes about how cities are made up of
strangers. Solnit writes that, In the city, one is alone because the world is made up
of strangers, and to be a stranger surrounded by strangers, to walk along silently
bearing one s secrets and imagining those of the people one passes, is among the
starkest of luxuries. (pg. 186) Walking in solitude can be beneficial to one s self
awareness of the community surrounding you. While driving around a foreign city or
Byzantine Empire s Influence On Christianity
The main characters of the Byzantine Empire were Diocletian, Constantine, Jerome,
Ambrose, Gregory, Augustine and Justinian. It achieved influence on the whole
world through the Christian faith and collections of laws that are used and believed
in even to this day. Moreover I do not think it impacted the Christian world, it literally
made it. Iconography influenced Christians and later other groups as well, including
secret societies. The major start of the Byzantine Empires influence on solidifying
Christianitybegins with Diocletian. Diocletian divided the Empire into western and
eastern halves and appointed a co emperor to share the burden of administration and
defense. (Fiero, Gloria). Shortly after this Rome s greatness fell... Show more content

Early Christians in the Roman Empire had symbols that other Christians could
identify. This later led to more symbolic than literal at face value meanings. I
would say that Secret Societies that exist today built from traditions of Templars
took much of this Iconography and added their own meanings to them. Masons
built many of the Cathedrals of Europe and Templars joined the Masons once the
Catholic Church denounced them. Sir Francis Bacon learning of America through
tales of Templars is said to have wrote many of the degrees of Freemasonry which
were built upon Christian morality. Furthermore Sir Francis Bacon wrote a book
called the New Atlantis in which America is to be the New Atlantis. This is what
Thomas Jefferson had to say about Sir Francis Bacon. Thomas Jefferson identified
Francis Bacon, John Locke, and Isaac Newton as the three greatest men that have
ever lived, without any exception, in this 1789 letter ordering portraits of them from
the American painter, John Trumbull. (Jefferson, Thomas). So not only did
Christian Iconography give birth to the NSO New Spiritual Order it also fostered
the birth of the NWO. The Hagia Sophia is probably one of the most breathtaking
buildings I have ever seen from its interior. It puts one at awe just from the pictures
and is a testament to how these beliefs influenced architecture. I have said in my
earlier papers that this

  • 2. Recording The Oratorio Song Of The Forests Prior to composing the oratorio Song of the Forests op. 81 in 1948, Shostakovich composed the film music Michurin that was about the life of horticulturist Ivan Vladimirovich Michurin (1855 1935). The film music encouraged Shostakovich to compose another work based on the same rural theme. Below is his statement during the aired interview in 1955 that confirms it: My work in cinematography has proven beneficial for my activity as a composer. Indeed, a number of my compositions are a direct outcome of my work in the cinema. For instance, my work on the film Michurin has prompted me to compose my oratorio the Song of the Forests. In fact, the lines in song no. 5 Комсомольцы выходят вперед (Young Communists go forward!) of the oratorio... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another recycled material is the melody that occurs in the movie between 31 45 and 32 04 on the scene where Michurin and the dignitaries were raising their glasses in a toast to Michurin s much expected success in developing a new horticultural technique for the benefit of Russian people. The piano plays the melody as a background music in the scene. Part of the melody becomes an important recurrent motive that gives a sense of unity to the oratorio Song of the Forests op. 81 (fig. 2). The unavailability of the film music score forces the author to assume that the melody is written in the key of C major as seen in fig. 2 below. Both the short and the longer versions of the melody, which appear previously in film music Michurin (fig. 2), appear in all songs of the oratorio and give a sense of unity. Borrowing the terminology mentioned by Pauline Fairclough, the short version will be called motive x. Therefore, the full length version will be called melody x. Motive x starts on the first scale degree and ascends until the fifth scale degree with a sixth scale degree as a diatonic upper neighbor pitch.According to Fairclough, motive x connects songs number 1, 6, and 7, and this proves that the Song of the Forests was composed very carefully. In addition to Fairclough s statement, motive x actually occurs in other songs as well generating a coherence in the oratorio. Below is several examples of the utilization of motive x in each song. Melody x appears
  • 3. N Sott Momaday The Way To The Rainy Mountain Analysis These lines extracted from N Sott Momaday s The Way to Rainy Mountain aptly depict his conception of the reader s role within this multi genre text. Literary Texts , as famously articulated by Terry Eagleton, are code productive, code transgressive as well as code confirming...they may teach us new ways of reading , not just reinforce the ones with which we come equipped . ( Eagleton, 116). Reaffirming this analogy, Momaday s The Way to the Rainy Mountain empirically proposes to transgress old codes, disintegrate decisions, eventually leading to a creation of polyphony within literature by simultaneously performing eternal happening . Momaday has incessantly stressed upon his ideology associated with the powerful act of imagination. In an essay entitled Native American Attitudes to the Environment , he advocates ...we are all....at the most fundamental level what we imagine ourselves to be..... . ( 80). The same intonation is reiterated in his proverbial lecture entitled Man made of words where he eloquently elaborates We are what we imagine. Our very existence consists in our imagination of ourselves . (3). This very notion finds a stance in the prologue of The Rainy Mountain where he proficiently assimilates his idiosyncrasies dealing with the creative power of imagination... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Iser, 9)This hypothesis emphatically propagates the phenomenological reader response theory to decipher the process that co relates the literacy work The Way to the Rainy Mountain to help us in identifying the openness portrayed in the text and the extent of reader participation. As one continue through the work, Iser says that having modified and undergone a retrospective effect on what has gone before, the reader strongly out strips the actual causes of the
  • 4. Hillary Clinton s Political Stance History B 1 Hillary Clinton s Political Stance Hillary Clinton is a strong candidate for the 2016 presidential elections. Clinton possesses an advantage above the other democratic candidates. Being elected would make her the first ever female president, which has without a doubt gained her popularity among women. However, she does have some roadblocks, including her questionable love life and iffy past with gay marriage and immigration. Clinton on guns laws. Clinton s views on gun regulation are fairly similar to that of most other democratic figures. It does not make sense for us at this point in our history to turn our backs on the reality that there are too many guns and too many children have access to those guns, and we have to act... Let s put money into what we know does work, like smaller class sizes, higher teacher pay, and better curriculum. Let s use interventions that work. (http://edexcellence.net /articles/hillary clinton quotes about education) Clinton on voting rights. Clinton has her intentions set on making it easier for people to vote. She says We should be clearing the way for more people to vote, not putting up every road block anyone can imagine. Clinton on illegal immigration. Like her views on gay marriage, Clinton s thoughts on illegal immigration have also undergone a process of development over the past years. In 2003, Clinton said I am adamantly against illegal immigration...People have to stop employing illegal immigrants.

  • 10. Piety In Confucianism In truth, filial piety, humaneness and reciprocity are three main ideas, which plays very important role in Confucianism. To begin with, Confucius is a famous philosopher who gave advices to the rulers and individuals on their behaviors. Worth to mention, Confucius s teachings were complied in the Analects after his death. Moreover, Filial Piety means respect for one s parents, and most people is familiar with that idea in Confucianism. From what I learnt in China, filial is the starting point of virtue. The taste of the delicious sample of fudge that I was just given from a small shop. I come across a huge billboard in bold blue letters. Where am I? I have just arrived in Branson, Missouri, where my family and I plan to have an amazing vacation away from home. To arrive in Branson, we first had to drive down to Missouri in my mom s silver van. As it was my parents, my three brothers, and me, the car was very crowded with all of our belongings that we needed for the trip crammed into the car with us. During the long and arduous car ride that dragged on for hours and hours, we figured out all of the activities that we hope to attend throughout the week of our trip. After discussing all of our plans, we decide that we will go to Silver Dollar City, which is an amusement park, a waterpark called White Water, and many stores including Branson s Landing, Tanger Outlets and the Five and Dimes store. My dad is very organized, and he is also a perfectionist. He takes out a yellow lined notebook and writes down a list of everything we are going to do for each day of the four day long vacation. As he finishes, we finally arrive in Branson, so we quickly check in, grab our room keys, and take all of our belongings up to our room. In my opinion, I believe that unpacking everything and taking it up the five flights of stairs where our room is located is the worst part of the

However, the task stated by the GM can be done in a much easier and cheaper ways. For example, they can require employees to use written form reports in order to reduce the slippage percentage and reoccurring problems. Reporting every problem real time may cause extra work for maintenance. Katie Rain Hill memoir on her transition discussed what normal is and how she came to understand that normalcy was completely based on what each person individually makes of it. The title of this book is the perfect description of Katie s struggle in accepting herself despite the opinions of others. Unfortunately, that s the case for many juveniles, some as young as 13! A juvenile is subject to a more severe sentence with the limited sentencing available. It is estimated that 250,000 youth are prosecuted as adults, each year. This number should change, as juveniles are not adults, both mentally and physically. Juveniles need an environment surrounded with guiding adults, education and the resources to help them. A juvenile is not an adult, and should not be tried as one. The environment in adult facilities is immensely different from juvenile facilities. Rehabilitation options are limited in adult facilities. It is hard for children to fit in with adults, or even be respected. Lack of attention and bullying are both major problems for juveniles in prison (Human Rights Watch). Juveniles in prison have a 18x greater risk of committing suicide, due to lack of supervision (Juvenile Forensic Evaluation Center) However, juvenile facilities provide higher quality education, adequate health care, and better security. 70% of juveniles are held under locked situations, rather than staff secure settings (Juvenile Forensic Evaluation Center). This decreases the amount of violence between juveniles and the staff. Since depression is a common health issue, juvenile facilities often have treatment available. Giving a juvenile the resources to help, can really benefit them at this

Forster contrasts Florence, Italy and Surrey, England in an attempt to reveal the interests and desires of Lucy Honeychurch, the main character. Forster does this through showing differences between what each country represents, Lucy s suitors, and the expectations of men and women in each location. The differences between the countries show how the life Lucywants to live and the life she is expected to live differ, and how these differences ultimately contribute to the meaning of the work. Each country in the novel represents a conflict in Lucy s life. While in Italy, Lucy is given the freedom to roam and explore as she pleases. On page 30 it states, I think I shall go out, said Lucy. So ran her thoughts, while her faculties were busy with Cecil...When he was cross he was always elaborate, and made long, clever answers where Yes or No would have done, as stated on page 109. This passage shows Cecil s unnecessary pretentiousness, and it reveals that Lucy not only notices his attitude, she finds it distasteful. George, on the other hand, is proven to be joyous and free. This can be shown on page 105, He smiled, flung himself at them, splashed them, ducked them, kicked them, muddied them, and drove them out of the pool. The actions listed describe George s behavior in the pond. He is out there simply enjoying life, and that is the personality Lucy finds herself wanting. That is the kind of personality that matches Italy, as it fosters independence and joy. This contradicts England and Cecil, both of which foster pretentious behavior and a stuffy environment. Once Part II of the novel is reached, the book transitions from Italy to England. The attitude and atmosphere shifts, but so do expectations of women. On page 96 it states, At last she longed for attention, as a woman should, and looked up to him because he is a man. This sentence is referring to Lucy and Cecil. This is a representation of England because sentences like this are not found in Part I of this book, only in Part

The end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century were periods during which propagandistic activities flourished. The development of mass media along with unprecedented advances in transportation and communication, due to innovative new technologies that came with industrial revolution, resulted to the formation of mass audiences for propaganda, in all sectors and for different purposes. All different media such as print, films, radio and television contributed to this new era, offering their unique characteristics for exploitation. In this essay, I am going to focus on the particular use of film as a propaganda tool. A propaganda film, can take either the form of a documentary film production or a fictional screenplay that aims at convincing the audience about certain issues. They can be driven by politics, social conflicts, environmental problems or simply personal incentives. Propagandistic content in films can be realistic so as to reflect actual problems and/or situations or specifically formed aiming at misleading large masses of the population on certain matters and alter their perception. The first acknowledged propaganda film was a series of short silent films, produced during the Spanish American war in 1898 by the Vitagraph Studios. Moreover, in 1918, Charlie

This experiment is categorized as biology as vital capacity is due to lungs and lungs are organs in a human body. Vital capacity is the amount of air that can be forcibly expelled from the lungs after breathing in as deeply as possible. The vital capacity is about 4,800 mL (4.8L) for an average human, which is the total amount of air that can be expired after fully inhaling. The vital capacity is= approximately 80 percent of total lung capacity. = Tidal volume + inspiratory reserve volume + expiratory reserve volume The total lung capacity (TLC) is the volume of air contained in the lungs after maximal inspiration plus residual volume and for an average male is around 6000ml (6L). To remain a fair test, many factors could affect one s vital capacity. Pregnancy for woman would decreases her vital capacity as during pregnancy the diaphragm is compressed by the uterus, which decreases total lung capacity. Pulmonary diseases such as asthma, Bronchitis, Common Cold, Lung cancer and other diseases can also affect vital capacity. Asthma restricts the airway allowing less air to pass through to their lungs which unable their lungs to stretch as much. Previous researches has shown woodwind and digeridoo players have larger lung capacity due to their experience and

Religious Beliefs In Hinduism Hinduism has arguably the most convoluted history of all major religions in the world; like every other religion, it surely has been sculpted by a plethora of cultural pressures. But unlike any other major religion, Hinduism comprises of innumerable gods, an untold amount of scriptures, and countless rituals. Even within the Hindu triumvirate, which consists of three gods, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, who are responsible for the creation, upkeep and destruction of the world, people hold different beliefs about what exactly they signify. As one might imagine, there is an immense spectrum of artistic depictions of these gods. Yet the icon emblematic to not only Hinduismbut to India itself is the god with many limbs, adorned with and framed by extravagant jewels and allegorical figures. Artisans meticulously craft their work when depicting these gods, premediating every detail and their symbolic implications. Even so, interpretations on these pieces may vary greatly depending on the beliefs of the person being asked. Of the three deities composing the Hindu triumvirate, Shiva is the most paradoxical: he is both the destroyer and the restorer, the great ascetic and the symbol of sensuality, the benevolent herdsman of souls and the wrathful avenger. (*) According to Hindu belief, Shiva s destructive power is not arbitrary, but constructive; he destroys the delusions and fallibilities of man to make way for beneficial change. Shiva is therefore seen as the source of both good

When writing the Port Huron Statement, its authors explicitly mentioned two key features of American society that they found troubling. First, they considered the presence of racism and overall bigotry in the American South as ...the permeating and victimizing fact of human degradation (Foner 283). The authors acknowledged the presence of practices that essentially dehumanized African Americans in the South, claiming that its existence is what ...compelled most of us from silence to activism (Foner 283). In addition to this, the authors of the Port Huron Statement were also troubled by the existence of the atom bomb and the possibility that an all out nuclear war could break out at any given moment. It is stated that the presence of the bomb brought awareness that ...we ourselves, and our friends, and millions of abstract others...might die at any time (Foner 283). While contemplating the aforementioned problems in American society, the authors of the Port Huron Statement also began to rethink the American ideal that all men are created equal , finding paradoxes between the claim and what was really occurring in American society. They stated that the declaration ...rang hollow before the facts of Negro life in the South (Foner 283) and was contradicted by the United States ...economic and military investments in the Cold War status quo (Foner 283). The desired result is a change of the attitude toward the subject in the target audience to further a political agenda. Propaganda can be used as a form of political warfare. Some of the recurrent themes and motifs in Hopkins poetry include the idea that the world resembles a book written by God, through which he expresses himself in order to provide humans with an opportunity to understand and approach him (Gardner 11). In God s Grandeur Hopkins can be seen to express his concern about the spiritual crisis of the Victorian period. During this time of urbanization and industrialization, Hopkins voiced his distress about human indifference to destruction. This poem is one of the very few which he wrote during the time when he served as a priest. The form of God s Grandeur is an Italian sonnet, but with some alteration. Even though Hopkins does not use sprung rhythm here, he varies his sonnet structure from the traditional iambic pentameter. Typically, a sonnet contains 3 quatrains (4 lines) and a couplet (2 lines); the Italian sonnet is characterized by having 1 octave (8 lines) and 1 sestet (6 lines). In God s Grandeur a similar pattern is followed, however, Hopkins presents a technique he often employs in other works as well, that of using the octet to present a personal or a sensory experience and the octet in order to provide some reflection on the topic (Gardner 221). God s Grandeur paints a poignant image of the destructiveness of contemporary human life, in particular, in the second quatrain. The second quatrain also presents a feature that is specific for Hopkins and different from the rhythm of the Italian
