Summary Of Lifting The Veil By Rabindranath Tagore
Lifting the veil: society s self perception in Rabindranath Tagore s short stories. Chapter I
(Introduction: Exploring new possibilities ) This world appears to us as an individual, and not merely
as a bundle of invisible forces. For this, as everybody knows, it is greatly indebted to our senses and
our mind. This apparent world is man`s world. It has taken its special features of shape, colour and
movement from the peculiar range and qualities of our perception. It is what our sense limits have
specially acquired and built for us and walled up......This world, which takes its form in the mould of
man`s perception, still remains only as the partial world of his senses and mind. It is like a guest and
not like a kinsman. It becomes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, characters, voices or attributes in a literary work are interpreted as the full and final pictures of
the society. Self is a reference by an individual to the same individual person. It describes essential
qualities that constitute a person s uniqueness or essential being. It can be considered the basic nature
of a person which endures that being which is the source of consciousness for an individual s thoughts
and actions, and unifies consciousness over time. It plays an integral part in human motivation,
cognition, affect, and social identity and constantly evolves due to the complexities of cultures and
societies. It is dependent on the culture that the self has been situated in. It can be redefined as a
dynamic, responsive process that structures neural pathways according to past and present
environments including material, social, and spiritual aspects (Mead s Self, Culture, Society Class ,
2015). P It is shaped by our social interactions and our physical environments. An individual s social
interactions occur when they re in a specific society or culture. If these individuals grow up in a
certain culture,

The Performance Of Sprinklers For Tunnel Protection Essay
One of the early test programs to study the performance of sprinklers for tunnel protection was
conducted in the Ofenegg tunnel in Switzerland in 1965. The tunnel was an old single track railway
tunnel, 4 m wide at the base and 6 m high. Three fire sizes obtained with aircraft petrol fuel were used
in the test with following specifications: (a) 100L and 6.6 m2 pool size; (b) 500 L and 47.5 m2 pool
size; and (c) 1000 L and 95 m2 pool size. Two lines of sprinklers were installed on the ceiling of the
tunnel. The water capacity was 19 L/(min m2). There was no information on the sprinkler system
activation time.
The fires developed very quickly during the tests and the maximum temperature was reached 1 to 2
minutes after ignition. Temperatures in the tunnel were quite high with maximum temperatures near
the ceiling ranging from 1200 degree Celsius to 1400 degree Celsius prior to sprinkler activation.
The sprinklers were able to extinguish all of the fires within a short period of time. But, a significant
quantity of hot steam was obtained during fire suppression. Visibility was found to decrease because
of hot steam and cooling of the smoke layer by the sprinklers discharge. Smoke and hot steam were
pushed a considerable distance from the fire site, resulting in higher temperatures than without
sprinklers at some locations in the tunnel.
After the fire was extinguished, the fuel continuously evaporated with the vapour spreading along the
tunnel. The vapour was re ignited in the

My Experience At The Art Department
Everyone has a passion in life mine is art. Not going to galleries and looking at paintings by artists
from the 1800s but using paint and pencils to show me and my life. The saying A picture shows a
thousand words which is very true but in my case a painting shows a thousand emotions.
I ve never hated school but I ve always loved being in the art department. All the different
possibilities, the different sizes of paper. It is somewhere that I feel as if I am me and nothing will ever
change that. Picking up a paintbrush and letting my imagination run wild has always been so much
easier than showing anyone my emotions. From red to blue, black to yellow, there is a colour to
represent how I am feeling. The colour wheel never lets me ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It gives me a chance to make something which is mine, it may never become a colour used by millions
each day but it has a purpose to me and my work, it is something that I can add to my work that relates
to me and my emotions. In art there are seven visual elements texture, tone, line, shape, form, pattern
and colour and in second year when I was first introduced to these, they never really made sense. Now
it all makes complete sense, as when I m drawing I enter another world and I use these elements all
the time. The different patterns in a piece, the dark and light tones it just makes my work mine. I can
tell how I felt that day from how dark piece is, the simple dark shading can convey tonnes of different
emotions. Art is a part of my life that I use and think about everyday. It is something which I can just
escape into, leaving the world behind me.
Art is a way where I can be right no matter what anyone else thinks. Throughout school I have fell out
with my friends, argued, and had some difficult times. Rather than shouting and screaming about my
problematic life, I picked a paint brush up. Two years ago I fallen out with most of my friends I then
had became too scared to come to school and face people. I had transformed into a hedgehog in
hibernation. When I found the courage to come to school, it had turned into me hiding in the art
department every break and lunch. Hiding away from people with my

Gifts To America Essay
America has given us a lot and I am personally am thankful. Some people do not appreciate what they
have. America has given us gifts from freedom to education. Personally, my favorite gift is my family
if I didn t have them, I would be nothing without them, they made me who I am. I can t express
enough, but I will try and do my best. There are lots of gifts America has given my generation, such as
phones, culture, and music. One of the gifts to America is music, some music is very calming and
relaxing. If we did not have music it would be so different like if we had parties what would we dance
to? I don t know about you, but I d rather dance to music than dance silence. Music is also a way to
express how people feel and if we didn t make music, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

also I love their wings. Lots of places have many different varieties of food and that s an excellent
thing no one would like the same things. The last gift to America that I want to talk about is phones
they are so important to people. Iphones are a very popular phone and they just recently came out with
a new one. Phones can actually save lives like say you are in a car accident and no one is around you,
but you can use your phone to call 911. I like to text or talk on the phone with your friends and tell
them about your day. Also you can go on Facebook which seems to be interesting, but I don t
understand how. You can do almost anything on your phone! All of these gifts to my generation are
magnificent I cannot congratulate America enough! The world would so much different if we did not
have these things like if we didn t have music what would we dance to? What if we didn t have phones
how would contact people or what would we do in case an emergency? All I can say is I am most
definitely thankful I can t imagine what America would be like without these

Conquest And Its Impact On The World
From the beginning of time, every great empire has emerged out of conquest. Conquest has
definitively shaped our current world. Yet, conquest would not be conquest without the aspect of
othering. Othering is simply treating the a different group of people as not human or completely
different, therefore not identifying[a] with them. In order for an empire to conquer another territory,
they must first dehumanize or other the group they are conquering. Empires did this as an attempt to
justify the cruel or unjust acts the would undertak[b]e on these people. Some influential empires that
othered in order to allow for mass conquest were the Romans, Portuguese, Aztecs, and Spanish. In
order for a successful conquest to happen the dominant group must other another group of people. [c]
The Roman empire repeatedly othered in order to conquer and expand their territories. Rome was one
of the largest both residential and territorial empires in the world. [d]Rome became a great power
ruling 60 to 70 million subjects and it consisted of everything that touched the Mediterranean
Sea(256). But Rome did not start as a such a dominate empire; it had to conquer much land to achieve
its high status. Prior to Rome s dominance it was only a single city estate surrounded by many other
unconnected city estates. However, what allowed the city estate of Rome to grow into a massive
empire was through its use of violent conquest. Rome managed to expand so rapidly because

Feminism, Womanhood, and The Yellow Wallpaper
Feminism, Womanhood, and The Yellow Wallpaper
The Victorian period in American history spawned a certain view of women that in many ways has
become a central part of gender myths still alive today, although in a diluted way.
In this essay, some characteristics of this view of women, often called The Cult of True Womanhood ,
will be explored with reference to Thomas R. Dew Dissertation on the Characteristic Differences
Between the Sexes (1835). Some of the feminist developments arising in conflict with this ideal will
also be traced. Then, in accordance with my view that literature and culture is often interrelated, I will
proceed by with an analysis of Charlotte Perkins Gilman s short story The Yellow Wallpaper as a ...

Nevertheless, it was believed that this was so, and some explained this as an expression of gratitude
for the civilizing effect religion had had on them! This is of course connected with the ideal of purity,
now that women were no longer primitive slaves of passion, they had no sexual pleasure or desire, and
were thus pure and chaste. This period was on other words also a period of sexual repression and
prudery.
Needless to say, women found their confinement within the domestic circle to be like a prison, and the
protectiveness Dew describes with such glee was restrictive, posing a real problem concerning the use
of one s time. What were women to do? Dew, as an educator, suggests that studies could be pursued,
but only to cultivate ...all those feminine graces and thus reinforce the very culture women presumably
wished to escape! No wonder the first universities for women, which started in the 1830s, were not
widely attended. Especially with attitudes like that expressed by a prominent physician in 1870: Why
destroy a good housewife by making an ordinary grammarian?
It must be noted that the values and ideas expressed here, are distinctive of an urban, WASP, middle
class ideology. In contrast, we see that the Western states had a completely different view of women.
They were not settled yet in the Victorian age, and women had to work just as much as men, both on
the land and inside the house, there was in many ways more

The Drawback of Destroying Old Sites and Putting Up New...
Mosque Project
Since pre Islamic times Mecca has always been known as a sacred site, however due to mass
construction and modernization, the sacredness of this holy city may be slowly dying. Mecca contains
the Holy Mosque and the Kaaba. The Kaaba is a tall, box like structure which stands in a courtyard in
the center of the Holy Mosque, and it became established as the main object of pilgrimages to Mecca
(Dictionary of Islamic Architecture). Mecca is the birth place of the prophet Muhammad and contains
a lot of important historical sites such as the site where Muhammad was born, the house of the prophet
s wife Khadijah and the house of Abu Bakr, as well as Muhammad s grandson s house which was
flattened by the King s palace. All of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that there are two sides. One being the Saudi Arabian government who operate under
Wahhabism, in which they think that it is good to demolish Islamic historical sites (such as the
birthplace of Muhammad, or the house he lived in) because they see it as encouraging sinful idolatry. I
get that they think that people may start worshiping those historical sites and lose focus on the heart of
Islam, but I don t think that is their only motive. I think that the Saudi Arabian government sees a lot
of other cities and countries modernizing and urbanizing themselves and making advances in
architecture and having a more modern way of life, and I think they are afraid to get stuck. What I
mean by that is they are afraid that because the holy mosque is in Mecca, that there city will never
make cultural advances but rather be stuck back in the time of the prophet. It is easy to forget that
Mecca is a city just like any other, which just happens to house the holy mosque. While it is a mainly
visited by Muslims doing the hajj, it is also visited by Nonmuslims and has other attractions than the
mosque and Kaaba and I think that the Saudi Arabian government is trying to expand that aspect of
Mecca. The other side of the argument is that in destroying historical sites, and building skyscrapers
around the mosque, it takes away for the sacredness of the place as well as the spiritual aspect of the
Hajj as a whole. I think lots people

The Great Famine
Introduction The Great Famine occurred in Ireland between 1845 and 1850 (Gray 2004). The famine
was caused by infectious diseases to potato crops and to humans, but also by structural issues in
Ireland at the time of the occurrence (Gray 2004). The demography of Ireland changed drastically
during the span of less than a decade. Prior to the famine, the Irish population was at 8.4 million in
1844 but as a result of the famine, a decline of 2.2 million people left Ireland with only a population of
6.6 million people in 1951 (Mokyr 2016). Research from the 1980s indicates the famine and
accompanying diseases killed approximately 1.1 million people and the other half became emigrants
(Gray 2004). The Irish were incredibly vulnerable to this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1846, Canada received 32,750 people. The following year, over 110,000 Irish people left from
either their country or from Britain to reach Canada, causing a peak in immigration rates referred to as
Black 47 (Collombier Lakeman 2015). Canada reacted to the peak by implementing more costly head
taxes on immigrants and harsher rules of navigation laws, such as the Passengers to North America
Act of 1848. The new laws caused a drastic drop of Irish immigrants, with the figure of 31,065 Irish
emigrants in the same year (Collombier Lakeman 2015). Although people of Canada were
sympathetic to the Irish situation, the surge of Irish immigrants posed an imbalance in Canadian
population that would have affected the infrastructure at the time. Thus, the government posed laws as

It powers our houses, industries, hospitals and in fact our entire economy. Electricity (from the New
Latin ēlectricus, amber like) is a general term that encompasses a variety of phenomena resulting from
the presence and flow of electric charge. When we consider electricity, we usually think of electric
power, and that s how we ll use the term here. Electricity is energy, and energy can do work. Electric
power, electricity, is used to do things for us, and no modern society exists without it. Electricity is
generated at places where it is economical and advantageous to do so, and is transported to places of
use through the power grid.
Historically speaking the modern electricity industry utility system was first introduced to the world
on the opening of Thomas Edison s Pearl Street Electricity Generating Station on September 4th, 1882
at New York (United States of America). Insofar as Delhi is concerned, the position is that as per
available records, the first diesel Power Station was established in Delhi in the year 1905
when private English Company by name M/s. John Fleming was given permission to generate
electricity under the provisions of the Indian Electricity Act 1903. The above mentioned Company
was given the responsibility both of generation and distribution of power in a limited manner. That
Company after obtaining license
under the provisions of Electricity Act 1903 had set up a small 2 MW Diesel set at Lahori Gate in Old

Water Resource Management ( Wrm )
Introduction: Water is extremely vital for all forms of life, from microorganisms to humans to
ecosystems alike. Water is a key factor in driving economic and social development within countries,
impacting agriculture, energy, sanitation and health, gender equality etc (World Bank, 2014). For these
reasons humans have invested an abundant amount of time, labor, and money into perfecting water
infrastructures in an effort to provide water services for populations worldwide. Water resource
management (WRM) goal is to manage and allocate water resources in a manner that satisfies the
demand of domestic, agricultural and industrial water sectors. Often left out of the equation is the
water demand needed for ecosystem sustainability. WRM ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ecosystem Services: Aquatic ecosystems play a pivotal role for living organisms, providing life
supporting services, along with valuable goods and services for society. Aquatic ecosystems are able
to decrease flood damages by storing season floodwaters. They supply humans with water for
domestic, agricultural, and industrial sectors and aid in recharging groundwater supplies, which is an
essential source of potable water. Furthermore, the recharging of groundwater aids in drought
mitigation. Freshwater ecosystems play a similar role to water treatment plants in that they filter out
pollutants and purify water. They support a variety of plant and animal life, which ultimately creates a
robust food chain, supporting human and wildlife consumption. Wetlands reduce greenhouse gas
emissions by storing carbon dioxide rather than releasing it into the atmosphere. As mentioned above,
ecosystems help mitigate water related disasters. Aquatic ecosystems provide nutrients to estuaries,
river deltas, and maintain soil fertility. Additionally, by delivering freshwater, freshwater ecosystems
are able to maintain salinity balances within estuaries (Postel, 2008; SRWP, 2007; GWP, n.d.).
Water Demand for Ecosystem/Environmental Flow Requirements: Aquatic ecosystems rely on water
to survive and if the amount of water they rely on dwindles, the ecosystem becomes negatively
impacted and the services they provide will

On a micro level, this can be detrimental to the individual as they are placed in a predicament of

and the community. Often Hispanics are living within an anomic neighborhood; which Kirst Ashman

Evidence present by Moser Mcilwaine (2005) shows that inequality and exclusion, associated with
unequal distribution of economic, political, and social resources in urban contexts, intersect with
poverty to precipitate violence. This implies that there are major concerns about unequal access to
employment, education, and health ( Moser Mcilwaine, 2005). So yes it affects the mezzo level. Last,

A Report On Energy Efficiency
Abstract: Energy efficiency (EE) is an important objective in uplink wireless communications due to
the limited capacity of batteries in user equipment (UE). Consider the scenario in which the access
point (AP) serves a subset of UEs when available resources cannot support all of the UEs quality of
service (QoS) requirements. In this project, propose a scheduling metric to balance the tradeoff
between EE and fairness. Based on the scheduling metric, propose a suboptimal joint scheduling and
resource allocation algorithm and a power allocation algorithm that maximizes the system EE.
Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve a good tradeoff between the system
EE and fairness.
I.INTRODUCTION The booming demand for wireless applications and the relatively low battery
capacity in UE puts a premium on achieving high EE. With the growing popularity of green
communications, EE is becoming increasingly important. Previous work on energy efficient resource
allocation in OFDMA systems has mainly focused on downlink scenarios. Due to constraints on
individual UEs and the discrete nature of sub channel assignment uplink energy efficient resource
allocation is less tractable. In an uplink allocation algorithm is described to maximize the minimum
EE among all users.
In order to maximize the total EE of all UEs under individual power and rate constraints for the UEs
an efficient suboptimal algorithms are proposed.

Analysis Of The Book Leningrad
Leningrad: The message meant to change society s views Billy Joel is an American singer and
songwriter who toured Russia in the later days of the Cold War in the mid 1980 s. Billy Joel was the
first American to tour any communist country since the Berlin Wall was built in 1961 and the raising
of the Iron Curtain. Billy Joel, through the use of this Russian tour, was able to witness the Russian
life first hand. During this tour he began to realize that not everything he had been taught about the
Russians and the life they lived was entirely true. During the tour Joel became friends with a Man

Billy Joel also makes it clear that we can not judge a group of people strictly on their leader s actions
because they do not necessarily represent the popular opinion that their nation s people have. The song
Leningrad is of interest to me because I am a musician myself and I play the piano as does Billy Joel.
Music has always played a substantial role in my life so I decided to use a music as the artifact of this
assignment. To me, it is interesting to find out how a popular song can change and affect the opinions
and thinking of its listeners through the use of a mass media outlet. The average person does not
typically take an analytical approach to a song to figure out the message behind it. It is also interesting
that a listener can still be persuaded by a song s message whether the listener knows it is happening or
not. The use of song as a way to shed light on social situations has been around for many years and
frequently these songs usually focus on issues on a more minor scale. Leningrad does the exact
opposite by not only being used for entertainment but also by using a war that most people had grown
up through and showing how we can help resolve these issues that caused the war. Approaching the
song Leningrad from a theoretical understanding is useful in that it shows how Billy Joel uses his
words and experiences with the Russian people to persuade and change the opinions that the American
people have towards the Russian s system of

Compare And Contrast Eaters Of The Dead And Beowulf
Beowulf story is interpreted from two novels, Grendel by John Gardner and Eaters of the Dead by
Michael Cricthon. Beowulf also came up with movie form in 2007 which is starting Angelina Jolie as
Grendel s mother. Beowulf has two main setting; Heorot, a Danish hall, Beowulf s Kingdom. The plot
begins when Beowulf heard that Heorot, the hall which is built by King Hrohtgar, attacked by a
monster known as a Grendel. Beowulf and his warriors travel by sea to Heorot. After he arrives at
Heorot, he fights with Grendel hand by hand and he kills the Grendel. When Beowulf and the others
are celebrating his victory, Grendel s mother continues to attack Heorot. Beowulf follows Grendel s
mother till to lair of Grendel s mother. He slays Grendel s mother ... Show more content on

While, on the poem, he returns to his homeland in Geats and becomes a king, but on the film,
Hrohtgar rewards him to be a king of Heorot and also marry with Hrohtgar s wife (eventough on the
poem, this part is not coming up with). In other case, a representation of Grendel in the poem and the
film has a bit differences. Grendel ,in the film form, comes up to Heorot and kill almost people in the
hall, but on the poem form, Grendel watches Beowulf as Hrothgar s coast guard and kill almost people
in the hall slowly. The differences also in the representation of Beowulf who is fighting with Grendel s
mother. The scene on the film shows that Beowulf is not killing Grendel s mother, but he kisses
Grendel s mother when he follows Grendel s mother till her lair. It is quite different when on the poem
form, Beowulf slays Grendel s mother in Grendel s lair. Back into the plot, the diffences also we can
see for the reason why the dragon attacks Beowulf s kingdom. There are two sources for the poem
which is differences from each other. First one is telling us that dragon attacks Beowulf s kingdom
because a thief distrubs dragon s treasure. The second is telling us that it is just happened, suddenly
the dragon attacks his kingdom. The scene on the film shows that Beowulf comes into lair of Grendel
s mother and back dragon s treasure to Grendel s mother but it s too late and the dragon

Social Marketing
Henderson (2001) also adds that:
Embracing CSR would inevitably have consequences that would raise the cost of doing business,
could well reduce revenues, and might also cause companies to sponsor low yielding investment
which they would otherwise have turned down.
In addition, organizations really motivated to apply and absorb CSR as a core value in its activities,
would have to undergo a deep and internal change in its business operations and culture (employees,
suppliers, offices) which represents a costly task and a time consuming mission. (Henderson, 2001)
Another important aspect suggested by Trebeck (2008) is that organizations must keep in mind that
government are still the main responsible entity of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance Middlemiss (2003 cited in Comfort et al. 2007, pp.585) explains that CSR is taking
centre stage to provide more sustainable long term brand value . Blumenthal and Bergstrom (2003
cited in Comfort et al. 2007, pp.585) describe it as the convergence of branding and Corporate Social
Responsibility .
Lou and Bhattacharya (2009) maintain that CSR creates a level of Moral Capital , which then
translates into Relational wealth with different stakeholders. This is based on brand faith and
credibility with costumers, affective commitment among employees and regulators, trust among
suppliers and higher attractiveness for investors in general. Consequently it is important for
organizations, to understand that CSR initiatives need to be communicated and transmitted to its group
of interest. As Blomqvist and Posner (2004 cited in Comfort et al. 2007, pp.584) propose:
Companies are losing out because there is often little or no integration between CSR and Marketing
departments and their respective strategies and unless CSR becomes central to the Marketing director
s agenda, it will not have the desired effect and can potentially create a backlash.
Lou and Bhattacharya (2009) also add that companies investing in these CSR initiatives can develop
market based intangible assets like Customer loyalty, which can then reduce uncertainty about future
profits of the firm.

How Does Temperature Affect Freezing Point
Topic: Does adding different substances to water effect the freezing rate?
Objectives:
The main objective of the experiment was to find the freezing rate of water when different substances
were added. The state of changing liquid to solid is called freezing point.
Introduction:
When temperature decreases, liquid changes into solid called freezing. The temperature at which the
solid liquid change takes place depends on the purity of the substance. Melting and freezing
temperature of pure compounds is fixed. While, it may be lower by the addition of any impurity like
salt, vinegar etc. to it.
During the freezing of a solution, two forces are basically acting against each other. The first force is
the external pressure . This force exerted in the neighbouring environment and this pushes down on to
the surface of the solution. The second force is called the vapour pressure and this is caused by the
molecules in the solution trying to push upwards (against the external pressure) and to evaporate (Ge
et al., 2008).
The condition where the freezing point of a liquid is lowered by the presence of an additive called
freezing point depression . This is observed in all solutions, and the freezing point is determined by
the amount of solute particles dissolved in the solvent (Ge et al., 2009)
At the freezing point of that particular solution, the chemical potential of the solution at liquid state
and solid state will be equal. Solute particles are able to dissolve only in a

Analyzing Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven
First, The Raven a poem written by Edgar Allen Poe, was a very interesting poem each stanza was
different yet had great detail in them and referred a lot to nature. This poem was very interesting to me
and that s why I chose this response. The poem is about a character who one night is sitting in their
room, reading trying to forget about their lost love Lenore. When then they hear a noise sounded like a
knock on the door, after opening the door finding that no one is there the character is then frightened.
Hoping that it is just the wind at the window the character then opens the window and lets in the
raven. The character then starts questioning the raven, yet all the raven would reply and say is
Nevermore (line 16). The character then ask more question getting more personal. The raven still
replying nevermore causes the character to get more frightened yet still talks to the raven. ... Show

The raven being an animal apart of nature is heavily involved in this poem. Being that it is a bird that
can only say one thing I thought of the raven as a parrot like bird and I think that s why Poe chose it.
Poe uses the raven in the poem to refer to as a prophecy that the character calls upon to answer his
questions. The raven in end of the poem could also be looked as a demon who terrors upon the man.
The natural world being terrifying to the character they feel protected in this room. When the character
says tis the wind and nothing more (line 36), they are trying to comfort themselves hoping that the
outside world isn t after them. The raven symbolizes the intrusion of the nature into the characters safe
little world. The raven is given characteristics that make it full of mystery like other things in

Eating Disorder And Disordered Eating
Another issue that seems to be prevalent is the distinction between an eating disorder and disordered
eating. These two are frequently misunderstood and used out of context. Disordered eating is almost
the same thing as an eating disorder with a few differences. Someone who suffers from disordered
eating is someone who does the same things as someone who suffers from an actual diagnosed eating
disorder but with less frequently. An example of this would be purging after eating an excessive
amount of food. Those who suffer from disordered eating often times have a history of depression or
anxiety. In addition to mental health consequences, ED have physical health consequences. The
National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) lists some health consequences associated with AN
and BN. For AN, health consequences include reduction of bone density (osteoporosis), severe
dehydration, which can result in kidney failure, fainting, fatigue, anemia, a lower immune system
function, slowed heart rate, even poor circulation of the blood, and overall weakness (NEDA). Some
of the physical effects for BN are inflammation and possible rupture of the esophagus from frequent
vomiting, chronic irregular bowel movements and constipation as a result of laxative abuse, and peptic
ulcers and pancreatitis. (NEDA). Premature birth, muscle fatigue, tooth decay, and mental health
issues can all arise from a BN as well. Multiple studies and reviews have been conducted to
investigate the

Sean Mannion Case Study
The last time a football team played in Los Angeles was in 1994 and that was with the Los Angeles
Rams and Los Angeles Raiders. Both teams left after the 1994 season. The Raiders returned back to
Oakland and the Rams relocated to St. Louis. Fortunately for football fans in Los Angeles, the Rams
returned back to LA this year. They played their first preseason game in LA on Saturday and beat the
Dallas Cowboys by 4 points in a 28 24 comeback finish. The Rams played mediocrely, but finished
strong especially with surprisingly good QB, Sean Mannion who wasn t even expected to get a role in
the QB position this year. Sean Mannion went 18/25 for 147 yards and 3 TD with 1 INT. Case
Keenum, the presumptive regular season starter did go 6/7 for 58 yards and no TD or INT and a RTG
of 101.2. Case Keenum played well for the time he was in, but only got 7 attempts in, so it is hard to
say what his true value is at this point. Unfortunately, 2016 overall first round pick, Jared Goff played
a somewhat lackluster game and left with a minor shoulder injury. Goff went 4/9 for 38 ... Show more

The Supernatural in Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green...
The Supernatural is described as something that is unable to be explained by science or laws of nature
or of relating to, or seeming to come magic, or a god (Merriam Webster). In Beowulf the supernatural
presents instelf in it s monsters. Grendel, Grendel s Mother, and the Dragon, all mythical creatures that
only exist in tales of fiction. Beowulf also possess another element of the supernatural. The
juxstapositon of a strong christian world view against those from the past who were well known

This ablility is similar to that of the Green Knight in Sir Gawain and Green Knight. The Pearl Poet s
Sir Gawain the Green Knight, a tale about the arrival of a strange green knight at the christmas dinner
of King Arthur s court. The Green knight seems to grab all the attention as he makes his entrance. All
those standing there gazed, and warily crept closer... so the folk there judeged it phantasm or magic...
and stunned by his words they sat there stock still. (Greenblatt, 190 191, 237 243). The only
explanation they can give is that he must be somekind of apparation. His ghostly figure seems to arrest
all the attendees, for they fear his supernatural presence. The Green Knight challenges King, Arthur, to
the beheading game. He agrees and brings the axe down on the Green Knight s head. For he holds up
the head in his hand...and the mouth uttered these words, which you shall know. (Greenblatt, 195, 444

Although there is one element that sets both Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight apart from
eachother. Magic appears in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight when Morgan le Fay, A woman who

of striking fear in the Queen and the Knights of King Arthur. She guided me in this guise to your great

Reflection Of Fight Club
Reflection One: Fight Club
Fight Club (1999) is a film directed by David Fincher based on the Chuck Palahniuk s 1996 novel of
the same name. Within popular culture Fight Club is regarded as a cult classic and, in my opinion, is
both a fantastic novel and film. However, this reflection will primarily analyse Fight Club (1999) the
film adaption rather than Fight Club (1996) the novel. Fight Club is subjected to several different
polarising genres throughout its complicated storyline including social commentary and romance.
Within the text, Fight Club comments on absent Father s and suggests that men are being raised by
women and are therefore losing the part of themselves that they find through the fight club. Arguably,
Fight Club is hardly ever referenced as a romance novel, yet the film s plot revolves around the
Narrator s love interest Marla Singer and the confusing love triangle that exists between them and the
Narrator s second identity Tyler. Fight Club, however, ignores most conventions of a romance text and
instead becomes a blur of genres that critiques capitalistic society and promotes an anti materialistic
lifestyle.
Fight Club s continuing relevance in contemporary popular culture is primarily attributed to the
relatable characteristics that the unnamed Narrator initially exhibits. Before becoming aware that the
Narrator and Tyler Durden are the same person, the majority of viewers relate more to the Narrator
and his admiration of Tyler as the man they aspire to

The Great Purge Of The Cold War
Joseph Stalin s determination greatly affected his leadership and led to the beginnings of the Cold War.
His determination allowed him to rise to power and destroy all opposition against his reign. The Great
Purge, one of the greatest terrors in history, was also done due to his determination to stay in power.
This same determination led to, as well as shaped, a large quantity of the events of World War 2. His
leadership was similar to the leadership of Adolf Hitler, yet because of his determination, was quite
different, and quite possibly more effective. In the end his determination for power led to the events of
the Cold War.
This determination greatly affected Stalin s rise to power, and allowed him to completely decimate all
opposition to his leadership. Originally, Stalin was a powerless citizen of the USSR, yet he managed
to quickly rise to the top of the political field. He began his role in politics by joining the Bolsheviks
in 1903. Due to his thirst for power he steadily rose through the ranks of the party and was soon the
General Secretary. The Bolshevik insurrection to Russian leadership was successful and placed Stalin
in a position of great power. He then used his power to isolate members of the party in an attempt to
take away their power and popularity. Determined to gain absolute dominance over the other
members, he caused the dismissal, and possibly the deaths, of several of his political opponents. This
left him in total rule over the Communist party,

The Little Brown Brothers Of The United States
Nation is a broad term that could mean many things to different people. For instance, some people
classify nation as the title that is placed on those that group themselves in this imagined community
forged under patriotism. However, other groups of people like Filipinos have a complicated notion of
nation. For those Filipinos that came to the United States, they do not know where home or nation is.
To give a bit of background on the complicated understanding of nation for Filipinos it all comes
down to their once political standing as a colony of the United States. Many Filipinos grew up with
American movies and television shows and with the mentality that they were Filipino Americans.
Their English teachers encouraged them to be educated and go to America, yet they never mentioned
that once they went to the United States they would be treated as subhuman when they got there. For
instance, the little brown brothers like small children in need of tutalige (Lecture, 9/29/15). Filipina
nurses, in particular, struggled to determine whether or not they would return back to the Philippines
once they got a taste of what it was like to live the American dream. Filipina nurses faced the struggle
of loving the life they lived in American all the while facing exclusions in their work place. Not only
did they face certain exclusion by their American counterparts they also endured exclusion from the
Philippines. Due to the exclusion they had at work many nurses formed coalitions

4.1 Explain the features and purpose of different types of formal and informal meeting An informal
meeting is more relaxed and doesn t have to follow all the guidelines of a formal meeting. An agenda
may not have to be set and the venue may be somewhere more relaxed such as a coffee shop etc.
Minutes may not need to be taken but certain notes should be taken by the people involved. This could
be a one to one with your manager a team meeting or a training course.
A formal meeting has more structure to it, it requires an agenda and minutes to be taken. Examples of
the need for a formal meeting would be board meetings, management meetings, and committee

The chair person is the person to hold the meeting together. They need to ensure that the meeting starts
and ends at the agreed time and that it follows the agenda. They also need to ensure that the

  • 2. Summary Of Lifting The Veil By Rabindranath Tagore Lifting the veil: society s self perception in Rabindranath Tagore s short stories. Chapter I (Introduction: Exploring new possibilities ) This world appears to us as an individual, and not merely as a bundle of invisible forces. For this, as everybody knows, it is greatly indebted to our senses and our mind. This apparent world is man`s world. It has taken its special features of shape, colour and movement from the peculiar range and qualities of our perception. It is what our sense limits have specially acquired and built for us and walled up......This world, which takes its form in the mould of man`s perception, still remains only as the partial world of his senses and mind. It is like a guest and not like a kinsman. It becomes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, characters, voices or attributes in a literary work are interpreted as the full and final pictures of the society. Self is a reference by an individual to the same individual person. It describes essential qualities that constitute a person s uniqueness or essential being. It can be considered the basic nature of a person which endures that being which is the source of consciousness for an individual s thoughts and actions, and unifies consciousness over time. It plays an integral part in human motivation, cognition, affect, and social identity and constantly evolves due to the complexities of cultures and societies. It is dependent on the culture that the self has been situated in. It can be redefined as a dynamic, responsive process that structures neural pathways according to past and present environments including material, social, and spiritual aspects (Mead s Self, Culture, Society Class , 2015). P It is shaped by our social interactions and our physical environments. An individual s social interactions occur when they re in a specific society or culture. • 3. The Performance Of Sprinklers For Tunnel Protection Essay One of the early test programs to study the performance of sprinklers for tunnel protection was conducted in the Ofenegg tunnel in Switzerland in 1965. The tunnel was an old single track railway tunnel, 4 m wide at the base and 6 m high. Three fire sizes obtained with aircraft petrol fuel were used in the test with following specifications: (a) 100L and 6.6 m2 pool size; (b) 500 L and 47.5 m2 pool size; and (c) 1000 L and 95 m2 pool size. Two lines of sprinklers were installed on the ceiling of the tunnel. The water capacity was 19 L/(min m2). There was no information on the sprinkler system activation time. The fires developed very quickly during the tests and the maximum temperature was reached 1 to 2 minutes after ignition. Temperatures in the tunnel were quite high with maximum temperatures near the ceiling ranging from 1200 degree Celsius to 1400 degree Celsius prior to sprinkler activation. The sprinklers were able to extinguish all of the fires within a short period of time. But, a significant quantity of hot steam was obtained during fire suppression. Visibility was found to decrease because of hot steam and cooling of the smoke layer by the sprinklers discharge. Smoke and hot steam were pushed a considerable distance from the fire site, resulting in higher temperatures than without sprinklers at some locations in the tunnel. After the fire was extinguished, the fuel continuously evaporated with the vapour spreading along the tunnel. The vapour was re ignited in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not going to galleries and looking at paintings by artists from the 1800s but using paint and pencils to show me and my life. The saying A picture shows a thousand words which is very true but in my case a painting shows a thousand emotions. I ve never hated school but I ve always loved being in the art department. All the different possibilities, the different sizes of paper. It is somewhere that I feel as if I am me and nothing will ever change that. It gives me a chance to make something which is mine, it may never become a colour used by millions each day but it has a purpose to me and my work, it is something that I can add to my work that relates to me and my emotions. In art there are seven visual elements texture, tone, line, shape, form, pattern and colour and in second year when I was first introduced to these, they never really made sense. Now it all makes complete sense, as when I m drawing I enter another world and I use these elements all the time. The different patterns in a piece, the dark and light tones it just makes my work mine. I can tell how I felt that day from how dark piece is, the simple dark shading can convey tonnes of different emotions. Art is a part of my life that I use and think about everyday. It is something which I can just escape into, leaving the world behind me. Art is a way where I can be right no matter what anyone else thinks. Throughout school I have fell out with my friends, argued, and had some difficult times. Rather than shouting and screaming about my problematic life, I picked a paint brush up. • 7. Conquest And Its Impact On The World From the beginning of time, every great empire has emerged out of conquest. Conquest has definitively shaped our current world. Yet, conquest would not be conquest without the aspect of othering. Othering is simply treating the a different group of people as not human or completely different, therefore not identifying[a] with them. In order for an empire to conquer another territory, they must first dehumanize or other the group they are conquering. Empires did this as an attempt to justify the cruel or unjust acts the would undertak[b]e on these people. Some influential empires that othered in order to allow for mass conquest were the Romans, Portuguese, Aztecs, and Spanish. In order for a successful conquest to happen the dominant group must other another group of people. [c] The Roman empire repeatedly othered in order to conquer and expand their territories. Rome was one of the largest both residential and territorial empires in the world. [d]Rome became a great power ruling 60 to 70 million subjects and it consisted of everything that touched the Mediterranean Sea(256). But Rome did not start as a such a dominate empire; it had to conquer much land to achieve its high status. • 8. Feminism, Womanhood, and The Yellow Wallpaper Feminism, Womanhood, and The Yellow Wallpaper The Victorian period in American history spawned a certain view of women that in many ways has become a central part of gender myths still alive today, although in a diluted way. In this essay, some characteristics of this view of women, often called The Cult of True Womanhood , will be explored with reference to Thomas R. Dew Dissertation on the Characteristic Differences Between the Sexes (1835). Some of the feminist developments arising in conflict with this ideal will also be traced. Then, in accordance with my view that literature and culture is often interrelated, I will proceed by with an analysis of Charlotte Perkins Gilman s short story The Yellow Wallpaper as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nevertheless, it was believed that this was so, and some explained this as an expression of gratitude for the civilizing effect religion had had on them! This is of course connected with the ideal of purity, now that women were no longer primitive slaves of passion, they had no sexual pleasure or desire, and were thus pure and chaste. This period was on other words also a period of sexual repression and prudery. Needless to say, women found their confinement within the domestic circle to be like a prison, and the protectiveness Dew describes with such glee was restrictive, posing a real problem concerning the use of one s time. What were women to do? Dew, as an educator, suggests that studies could be pursued, but only to cultivate ...all those feminine graces and thus reinforce the very culture women presumably wished to escape! No wonder the first universities for women, which started in the 1830s, were not widely attended. Especially with attitudes like that expressed by a prominent physician in 1870: Why destroy a good housewife by making an ordinary grammarian? It must be noted that the values and ideas expressed here, are distinctive of an urban, WASP, middle class ideology. In contrast, we see that the Western states had a completely different view of women. They were not settled yet in the Victorian age, and women had to work just as much as men, both on the land and inside the house, there was in many ways more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Drawback of Destroying Old Sites and Putting Up New... Mosque Project Since pre Islamic times Mecca has always been known as a sacred site, however due to mass construction and modernization, the sacredness of this holy city may be slowly dying. Mecca contains the Holy Mosque and the Kaaba. The Kaaba is a tall, box like structure which stands in a courtyard in the center of the Holy Mosque, and it became established as the main object of pilgrimages to Mecca (Dictionary of Islamic Architecture). Mecca is the birth place of the prophet Muhammad and contains a lot of important historical sites such as the site where Muhammad was born, the house of the prophet s wife Khadijah and the house of Abu Bakr, as well as Muhammad s grandson s house which was flattened by the King s palace. All of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think that there are two sides. One being the Saudi Arabian government who operate under Wahhabism, in which they think that it is good to demolish Islamic historical sites (such as the birthplace of Muhammad, or the house he lived in) because they see it as encouraging sinful idolatry. I get that they think that people may start worshiping those historical sites and lose focus on the heart of Islam, but I don t think that is their only motive. I think that the Saudi Arabian government sees a lot of other cities and countries modernizing and urbanizing themselves and making advances in architecture and having a more modern way of life, and I think they are afraid to get stuck. What I mean by that is they are afraid that because the holy mosque is in Mecca, that there city will never make cultural advances but rather be stuck back in the time of the prophet. It is easy to forget that Mecca is a city just like any other, which just happens to house the holy mosque. While it is a mainly visited by Muslims doing the hajj, it is also visited by Nonmuslims and has other attractions than the mosque and Kaaba and I think that the Saudi Arabian government is trying to expand that aspect of Mecca. The other side of the argument is that in destroying historical sites, and building skyscrapers around the mosque, it takes away for the sacredness of the place as well as the spiritual aspect of the Hajj as a whole. • 12. The Great Famine Introduction The Great Famine occurred in Ireland between 1845 and 1850 (Gray 2004). The famine was caused by infectious diseases to potato crops and to humans, but also by structural issues in Ireland at the time of the occurrence (Gray 2004). The demography of Ireland changed drastically during the span of less than a decade. Prior to the famine, the Irish population was at 8.4 million in 1844 but as a result of the famine, a decline of 2.2 million people left Ireland with only a population of 6.6 million people in 1951 (Mokyr 2016). Canada reacted to the peak by implementing more costly head taxes on immigrants and harsher rules of navigation laws, such as the Passengers to North America Act of 1848. The new laws caused a drastic drop of Irish immigrants, with the figure of 31,065 Irish emigrants in the same year (Collombier Lakeman 2015). Electricity (from the New Latin ēlectricus, amber like) is a general term that encompasses a variety of phenomena resulting from the presence and flow of electric charge. When we consider electricity, we usually think of electric power, and that s how we ll use the term here. Electricity is energy, and energy can do work. Electric power, electricity, is used to do things for us, and no modern society exists without it. Electricity is generated at places where it is economical and advantageous to do so, and is transported to places of use through the power grid. Historically speaking the modern electricity industry utility system was first introduced to the world on the opening of Thomas Edison s Pearl Street Electricity Generating Station on September 4th, 1882 at New York (United States of America). Insofar as Delhi is concerned, the position is that as per available records, the first diesel Power Station was established in Delhi in the year 1905 when private English Company by name M/s. Water is a key factor in driving economic and social development within countries, impacting agriculture, energy, sanitation and health, gender equality etc (World Bank, 2014). For these reasons humans have invested an abundant amount of time, labor, and money into perfecting water infrastructures in an effort to provide water services for populations worldwide. Water resource management (WRM) goal is to manage and allocate water resources in a manner that satisfies the demand of domestic, agricultural and industrial water sectors. Often left out of the equation is the water demand needed for ecosystem sustainability. WRM ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ecosystem Services: Aquatic ecosystems play a pivotal role for living organisms, providing life supporting services, along with valuable goods and services for society. Aquatic ecosystems are able to decrease flood damages by storing season floodwaters. They supply humans with water for domestic, agricultural, and industrial sectors and aid in recharging groundwater supplies, which is an essential source of potable water. Furthermore, the recharging of groundwater aids in drought mitigation. Freshwater ecosystems play a similar role to water treatment plants in that they filter out pollutants and purify water. They support a variety of plant and animal life, which ultimately creates a robust food chain, supporting human and wildlife consumption. Wetlands reduce greenhouse gas emissions by storing carbon dioxide rather than releasing it into the atmosphere. As mentioned above, ecosystems help mitigate water related disasters. Aquatic ecosystems provide nutrients to estuaries, river deltas, and maintain soil fertility. Additionally, by delivering freshwater, freshwater ecosystems are able to maintain salinity balances within estuaries (Postel, 2008; SRWP, 2007; GWP, n.d.). • 17. A Report On Energy Efficiency Abstract: Energy efficiency (EE) is an important objective in uplink wireless communications due to the limited capacity of batteries in user equipment (UE). Consider the scenario in which the access point (AP) serves a subset of UEs when available resources cannot support all of the UEs quality of service (QoS) requirements. In this project, propose a scheduling metric to balance the tradeoff between EE and fairness. Based on the scheduling metric, propose a suboptimal joint scheduling and resource allocation algorithm and a power allocation algorithm that maximizes the system EE. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve a good tradeoff between the system EE and fairness. I.INTRODUCTION The booming demand for wireless applications and the relatively low battery capacity in UE puts a premium on achieving high EE. With the growing popularity of green communications, EE is becoming increasingly important. Previous work on energy efficient resource allocation in OFDMA systems has mainly focused on downlink scenarios. Due to constraints on individual UEs and the discrete nature of sub channel assignment uplink energy efficient resource allocation is less tractable. In an uplink allocation algorithm is described to maximize the minimum EE among all users. In order to maximize the total EE of all UEs under individual power and rate constraints for the UEs an efficient suboptimal algorithms are proposed. The proposed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Book Leningrad Leningrad: The message meant to change society s views Billy Joel is an American singer and songwriter who toured Russia in the later days of the Cold War in the mid 1980 s. Billy Joel was the first American to tour any communist country since the Berlin Wall was built in 1961 and the raising of the Iron Curtain. Billy Joel, through the use of this Russian tour, was able to witness the Russian life first hand. During this tour he began to realize that not everything he had been taught about the Russians and the life they lived was entirely true. During the tour Joel became friends with a Man named Viktor who attended all of the performances during this tour. Billy Joel s management learned about Viktor and set up a way for the pair to ... Billy Joel also makes it clear that we can not judge a group of people strictly on their leader s actions because they do not necessarily represent the popular opinion that their nation s people have. The song Leningrad is of interest to me because I am a musician myself and I play the piano as does Billy Joel. Music has always played a substantial role in my life so I decided to use a music as the artifact of this assignment. To me, it is interesting to find out how a popular song can change and affect the opinions and thinking of its listeners through the use of a mass media outlet. The average person does not typically take an analytical approach to a song to figure out the message behind it. It is also interesting that a listener can still be persuaded by a song s message whether the listener knows it is happening or not. The use of song as a way to shed light on social situations has been around for many years and frequently these songs usually focus on issues on a more minor scale. Leningrad does the exact opposite by not only being used for entertainment but also by using a war that most people had grown up through and showing how we can help resolve these issues that caused the war. Approaching the song Leningrad from a theoretical understanding is useful in that it shows how Billy Joel uses his words and experiences with the Russian people to persuade and change the opinions that the American people have towards the Russian s system of ... Beowulf also came up with movie form in 2007 which is starting Angelina Jolie as Grendel s mother. Beowulf has two main setting; Heorot, a Danish hall, Beowulf s Kingdom. After he arrives at Heorot, he fights with Grendel hand by hand and he kills the Grendel. When Beowulf and the others are celebrating his victory, Grendel s mother continues to attack Heorot. In other case, a representation of Grendel in the poem and the film has a bit differences. Grendel ,in the film form, comes up to Heorot and kill almost people in the hall, but on the poem form, Grendel watches Beowulf as Hrothgar s coast guard and kill almost people in the hall slowly. In addition, organizations really motivated to apply and absorb CSR as a core value in its activities, would have to undergo a deep and internal change in its business operations and culture (employees, suppliers, offices) which represents a costly task and a time consuming mission. This is based on brand faith and credibility with costumers, affective commitment among employees and regulators, trust among suppliers and higher attractiveness for investors in general. Consequently it is important for organizations, to understand that CSR initiatives need to be communicated and transmitted to its group of interest. As Blomqvist and Posner (2004 cited in Comfort et al. 2007, pp.584) propose: Companies are losing out because there is often little or no integration between CSR and Marketing departments and their respective strategies and unless CSR becomes central to the Marketing director s agenda, it will not have the desired effect and can potentially create a backlash. • 23. How Does Temperature Affect Freezing Point Topic: Does adding different substances to water effect the freezing rate? Objectives: The main objective of the experiment was to find the freezing rate of water when different substances were added. The state of changing liquid to solid is called freezing point. Introduction: When temperature decreases, liquid changes into solid called freezing. The temperature at which the solid liquid change takes place depends on the purity of the substance. Melting and freezing temperature of pure compounds is fixed. While, it may be lower by the addition of any impurity like salt, vinegar etc. to it. During the freezing of a solution, two forces are basically acting against each other. The first force is the external pressure . This force exerted in the neighbouring environment and this pushes down on to the surface of the solution. The second force is called the vapour pressure and this is caused by the molecules in the solution trying to push upwards (against the external pressure) and to evaporate (Ge et al., 2008). The condition where the freezing point of a liquid is lowered by the presence of an additive called freezing point depression . This is observed in all solutions, and the freezing point is determined by the amount of solute particles dissolved in the solvent (Ge et al., 2009) At the freezing point of that particular solution, the chemical potential of the solution at liquid state and solid state will be equal. An example of this would be purging after eating an excessive amount of food. Those who suffer from disordered eating often times have a history of depression or anxiety. Within popular culture Fight Club is regarded as a cult classic and, in my opinion, is both a fantastic novel and film. However, this reflection will primarily analyse Fight Club (1999) the film adaption rather than Fight Club (1996) the novel. Fight Club is subjected to several different polarising genres throughout its complicated storyline including social commentary and romance. Within the text, Fight Club comments on absent Father s and suggests that men are being raised by women and are therefore losing the part of themselves that they find through the fight club. Arguably, Fight Club is hardly ever referenced as a romance novel, yet the film s plot revolves around the Narrator s love interest Marla Singer and the confusing love triangle that exists between them and the Narrator s second identity Tyler. Fight Club, however, ignores most conventions of a romance text and instead becomes a blur of genres that critiques capitalistic society and promotes an anti materialistic lifestyle. Fight Club s continuing relevance in contemporary popular culture is primarily attributed to the relatable characteristics that the unnamed Narrator initially exhibits. His determination allowed him to rise to power and destroy all opposition against his reign. The Great Purge, one of the greatest terrors in history, was also done due to his determination to stay in power. This same determination led to, as well as shaped, a large quantity of the events of World War 2. His leadership was similar to the leadership of Adolf Hitler, yet because of his determination, was quite different, and quite possibly more effective. In the end his determination for power led to the events of the Cold War. This determination greatly affected Stalin s rise to power, and allowed him to completely decimate all opposition to his leadership. Originally, Stalin was a powerless citizen of the USSR, yet he managed to quickly rise to the top of the political field. He began his role in politics by joining the Bolsheviks in 1903. Due to his thirst for power he steadily rose through the ranks of the party and was soon the General Secretary.
