The Fairie Queene Analysis
Skill of the Week: Reading for Women in Power
Throughout time, Chasity is a virtue of positive connotation but seems to have a fluctuating
denotation. In our modern world, the Urban Dictionary website defines chastity as more than just
abstinence. It s choosing not to have sex because you recognize the value of your own sexuality.
(UrbanDictionary.com). This definition allows for some leeway as it leaves room for possible
intercourse as long as it is valued. However, the reputable Oxford Dictionary narrows the meaning to
The state or practice of refraining from extramarital, or especially from all, sexual intercourse.
(OxfordDictionary.com) This Middle English definition leaves no room for hanky panky. In the Fairie
Queene, Edmund Spenser uses three predominate characters to create a Spenserian definition of
chastity.
In Canto 4, Spencer introduces the character Florimell. At that time, she is being pursued by Arthur
and Guyon (3.4.12). Furthermore, in Canto 5, more drama arises when Arthur learns that Florimell is
searching for her beloved Marinell (3.5.2). Florimell is noted as the most beautiful female character in
the epic and spends much of her time running away from almost all of the male characters within the
poem because they are in love with her. She relies on her ability to flee from men with lustful
intentions. This character shows how Spenser defines chastity as purity and innocence as Florimell
flees from temptation instead of taking it on like a modern day

The Greek vase shows an importance of Mediterranean art. Also, the Greek vase is the one way to

Genre Analysis Principles
In order to complete the DCR, it is necessary to understand a few key principles of genre analysis.
These principles include: Beaufort s five domains of knowledge, discourse community attitudes and
values, rhetorical and other textual features.
The rhetorical and other textual features can be divided into sub principles such as content, function,
format and different rhetoric appeals. For genre analysis, the content rhetorical feature is used to
reflect the textual organization of different components of said genre. For example, a research article
genre is highly organized, and arranged in the following sections: an abstract, an introduction,
methods, results, discussion, and references. This principle mainly looks at how the content and
material of the genre is displayed, and how this display is best ... Show more content on

The Wadsworth Guide explains how logos appeals to reason and logic, ethos appeals to credibility and
authority, and pathos appeals to emotions (page 183). These features, in the light of rhetor, are used to
see how the genre garners the attention of the audience.
Beaufort s five domains are genre knowledge, rhetorical knowledge, subject matter knowledge,
writing process knowledge, and discourse community knowledge. These domains are vital to the
process of genre analysis, and the one discussed in the Data Collection Report is subject matter
knowledge.
Subject matter knowledge pertains to knowledge of expertise for said discourse community. In the
genre analysis, we look at how the rhetor of the genre displays the extent of expertise about the
discourse community, as well as how the genre adds to existing subject matter knowledge.
The last section of the genre analysis was the critique. This section of the genre analysis pertains to
suggestion of possible changes in them by me. I based my critique on recommendations for genre

Literary Interpretation In The Storm By Kate Chopin
The Storm by Kate Chopin
The entire setting of the story The Storm by Kate Chopin is an accurate reflection of an adulterous
situation. It employs the symbol The Storm to portray an exact circumstance that acknowledges the
existence of unfaithfulness through adultery. The story took place in the period 1800s and gives a clear
account of an affair that constituted Calixta who was the protective mother to Bibi and the wife to
Bobinot, Alcee, the husband to Clarisse. The relationship among the people above took place at the
prime time when there existed a violent rainstorm. As such, the depiction of the rainstorm does not
give an account of a particular coincidence that occurred behind the whole scene but represents an
external influence through which the proximity of the narration and the affair appeared
simultaneously. The narrative begins with the storm occurrence, reaches its peak and ceases, so
happens in paradox along with the relationship and the story.
The whole scene is a true tale and a replication of a how females were sexually burdened in the 19th
century period under the notion of male chauvinism and superiority. It also explicates women
discovery of their rights and freedom over their body and relations. In that light, the story marks the
end of female oppression and a transition for transformation on the female gender. Mainly, Kate s
literary work comprises of the content that happened at the particular time of the century and the

A career in public service appeals to me because I believe it is my duty as a citizen to give back to the
country that has given much to me. Working in public service, like John F. Kennedy stated is about
asking what can you do for your country, rather than what your country can do for you. Therefore,
working in public service at the Agency implies I can protect my fellow citizens, ensure that families
do not have to worry about the threat of terrorism, and give back to my community for all the
opportunities that I have had the privilege to experience. Working in public service means I can use
my skills and connections to make sure that our nation and its citizens are safe from all enemies
foreign and domestic. Additionally, I wish to serve in the Directorate of Operations because it will
allow me to develop advanced interpersonal skills, work with team members as well as individually to

The Role Of Critical Thickness Subordinate Impacts Acting...
What is intriguing is the nearness of critical thickness subordinate impacts acting in a deferred way on
the diverse conceptive parameters broke down. The part of conceptive females, the proliferation file,
and the regenerative rate were to a great extent dictated by the populace thickness the prior year. The
generation record and the regenerative rates were not affected by the precipitation design. The
multiplication list speaks to the extent of regenerative females and adolescents in the populace.
Therefore, one conceivable reason for the non huge relationship amongst precipitation and
multiplication record might be the expansion of grown up movement after stormy winters (Lima and
Jaksic unpublished work). Then again, the regenerative rate is a gauge of the quantity of adolescents
delivered by a female amid the reproducing season, and includes the litter size, litter number and the
survival rates of the posterity. Consequently, our outcomes propose that precipitation does not impact
these parameters. This is a fascinating result, in light of the fact that an expansion in the quantity of
litters created by females after abnormally stormy winters has been hypothesized as one of the
instruments activating populace episodes of this species. A few studies have discovered abundant
proof of social cooperation s in microtine rodents, including spatial conduct, territoriality and forceful
experiences. In general, these components appear to create quick thickness subordinate

Wong Kar-Wai s Relationship with Genre
This essay will explore Wong Kar Wai s relationship with genre within the context of the Hong Kong
film industry, along with Wong s various international influences, in order to argue, Chungking
Express was a major turning point in his career in terms of his complex relationship with various
elements of film genre.
Contextualising genre within the Hong Kong film industry:
Of all the international film industries across the globe Hong Kong is certainly one that is synonyms
with genre cinema. Considering the commercial nature of its film industry, it seems only appropriate
that when discussing Hong Kong cinema as a whole, genre seems to be a frequent and integral part of
the conversation. The Hong Kong film industry was built to turn a profit and has become the dominant
figure in all of East Asian cinema, relying heavily on exporting its films to Mainland China and
Taiwan, as well as local box office sales. Ding Tzann Lii describes this relationship as one of marginal
imperialism and compares the Hong Kong industries hold over East Asia to that of Hollywood s over
the rest of the world. (1998: 125) However, with such a large demand for product Hong Kong has
struggled to produce enough films each year to maintain its industries growth. Production rapidly
became focused on making films quickly, cheaply and with the intention of being sold easily. The
industry became much like a factory, producing films in an assembly line fashion, often pushing films
into production without a

Characteristics Of Romanticism
Jonathan and Jessica Wordsworth. New York, NY: Penguin Books, 2005. Print.
Review by Gloria Wan, Oxford College of Emory University
The Penguin Books of Romantic Poetry includes a collections of romantic poetry from later eighteen
centuries to the early nineteenth century. At the peak of Romanticism, there were many social and
political changes occurred including the French Revolution, Napoleon s expansion in Europe, the
Congress of Vienna, the conflict between conservatism and liberalism, Industrial revolution and so on.
Romantic poets used poems to express their emotions of their love for nature, longing for the ancient
legends, and they tried to use their emotions and feelings to understand the world around them
including the French Revolution, slavery, industrial revolution and the Napoleonic war. However, after
the Revolution of 1848, the wave of romanticism died out and realism emerged.
Many romantic poetries praised the beauty and the power of the nature, and this can be seen as one of
the characteristic of Romanticism. In the poem Ode to the West Wind by Percy Shelley, it talked about
wind has the power to change the season from autumn to spring, and it can also bring rain and hail in
the sky and waves in the ocean. As he wrote in his poem Oh wild west wind, thou breath of autumn s
being, thou, from whose unseen presence the leaves dead are driven, like ghosts from an enchanter

Bosnian Genocide And Holocaust Similarities
Genocide is one of the worst inventions man has made. More formally known as massacres before the
early 1900s(Cooke welling 69), they have always been very harmful to an ethnicity or religions
growth. The word itself originates from latin roots. The words whole and burned in latin morph to
make the word holocaust A few of the worst ones in history have happened in just the past century.
One that is very familiar is The Holocaust. It was the genocide of the Jewish faith during World War II
by Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party( The Holocaust ). Hitler believed that the aryan race was germans

Many examples in history show multiple times where people have banded together to fight for the
common good, but they might always notice how bad it actually in. This is what happened in the
Bosnian genocide with the world. Nobody actually reacted until the news was spread worldwide that
Serbs killed 8,000 males in Srebrenica( Genocide and 34). This is when the rest of the world,
especially developed countries, saw the need to help these innocent people in Bosnia. The United
Nations tried to help the Bosniaks and Croats who were in severe need of a rescue but only sent 400
soldiers. The city of Srebrenica had so much violence in it that it was too spread out for the UN
soldiers to make an impact. This resulted in these soldiers getting criticized around the world for their
lack of contribution(36). This was not the case for the genocide of the Jews. The Jews were at the
height of media during the second World War. Hitler and his Nazi party made headlines week after

something so disastrous could actually happen.Mass killings were constantly made at every camp.

Health Care Act Of The United States
Health care costs in the United States are higher than ever before and the issue of how much
Americans are spending on their health care is more prevalent than ever. Factors such as unhealthy
lifestyles, increasing use of medical technology, increasing costs for prescription drugs, as well as
large out of pocket premiums and lower household incomes all contribute to the high costs of medical
spending. The United States is the global leader in spending on health care, compared to its European
counterparts, most of whom offer various forms of universal health care to their residents (Squires and

Compared to other developed countries with similar wealth to the United States, the U.S. spends more
per capita on healthcare than anywhere else in the world. While the United States spends almost
$9,000 per capita on healthcare, the next highest spender Switzerland spends only slightly more than
$6,000 per capita. The average amount spent in comparable countries in 2012 is $4,460, roughly half
of what the U.S. spends annually (See Table 1). Since 2012, total health care spending in the United
States has increased from $2.8 trillion to about $3.1 trillion in 2014, while per capita spending rose to
$9,697 per person for the year 2014 (US Healthcare Spending). Growth in total spending on
healthcare has increased from 3.7% in 2012 to 6.1% in 2014 (US Healthcare Spending). In 2013, the
United States spent about 17% of its GDP on healthcare; the highest of any developed country (Allen).
Increases in health care spending are not necessarily due to Americans visiting hospitals or physicians
more frequently than residents in other countries. Higher health care prices in the United States can be
attributed to the increased use of medical technology compared to other countries, the privatization of
the healthcare industry, as well as a higher use and cost of pharmaceuticals

Food In Korean Food
A few days ago, a friend invited me and a five other people over to her house, as her parents wanted to
cook us a home cooked meal. The dining table had a total of six chairs, including the host s. I noticed
that the spacing between the chairs were relatively of close distance, showing how Meals identify
social boundaries surrounding familiarity with people, and these are articulated around ideas of people
s intimacy and distance (Crowther 161). An elaborate plate of food was set out for each guest, as her
parents had cooked us steak with roasted potatoes, grilled asparagus, corn, a piece of bread, as well as
a dish of cream spaghetti. There was also sparkling water and regular water to drink along with the
meal. For all of the guests, this meal was especially enjoyable because we were all students dorming
in college, so we had not eaten a home cooked meal in a long time. This can be reconnected to the
topic of commensality, as The sharing of food reinforces ties, forges new memories, and allows people
to reflect on the importance of eating together (Crowther 151).
In Korean culture, it is respectable for the guests to help set the table with the necessary utensils, as it
also shows the parents that we are appreciative of the meal. Right as the plate of food was set on the
table, everyone began to take out their phones, waiting to capture pictures of the food. As all the

The Theme Of Nature InLight, By Eva Figess
In the world today, the journey of life portrays a human s characteristics through the principles of their
growth, emotions, and aspirations. As Noam Chomsky once said, Humanity is made up of sniffles,
happiness, and anger in a bundle of internal thoughts. In the novel, Light, by Eva Figes, she exhibits
illuminates the story by studying the human condition. She also demonstrates how ideas and the
character s nature are associated with a theme. As a result, Figes uses grief and childhood to illustrate
the characters actions, imagery from the text, as well as aspects of the individuals. For example, the
curiosity of a young girl and a grieving mother reveal a message in the story. Also, variation of detail

Another major event that takes place in the literature was when Lily is lured towards a morning light.
The grandduaghter then becomes fascinated with what she is observing her environment: Laying back
down in bed she then begins to observe the leafy hinged panels and a clear light coming into the room,
creating a bigger perspective (Figes 21). The excerpt presents Lily s childhood state. She is curious
about what is happening in her bedroom. The text also exemplifies Lily s character through the usage
of light by studying its features. A little while Lily is attracted to a pond full of water lilies: The
aquatic plants then began to unbolt, layer after layer with rows of flowery petals folded back to the
sky, revealing many light hues (Figes 35). The quote shows that as Lily approaches the flowers on the
pond, each plant reflects brilliance from the sun. She also uses nature to describe the various aspects
of light bouncing from the sky. The character s essence represents her childhood because she is
curious about the natural features from the earth. The author then uses figurative language to reveal
the aesthetics in nature. For example, Figes incorporates a depressing setting in Alice s environment
because of the sadness in her life. The narrator clarifies that, ...its vibration continued, sounds going
through the cool shadowy spaces, rising forward into the pale sky (Figes 8). The author then shows

Essay On My Fieldwork Experience At Jefferson Elementary...
Introduction
Receiving an early childhood degree utilizes nearly one hundred and twenty hours of college
education. While I have attended many college classes, none have taught me quite like my fieldwork
experience did. No book or lecture could fully prepare me for situations in the classroom. Jefferson
elementary displayed positive insight to an elementary classroom, such as different teaching styles,
personalities, administration and learning disabilities. I learned that fieldwork is more than just getting
the hours to pass college classes; Jefferson Elementary gave me direct interaction with teachers and
students. Observing an active class taught, challenged and exposed me to valuable situations.
Jefferson Elementary School
I received the opportunity to observe at Jefferson Elementary School. The school is located in
Jefferson, Georgia and educates children from pre kindergarten to second grade. Jefferson Elementary
School strives to supply the children with the best education and learning environment possible. The

Jefferson Elementary School identify as Caucasian, making up the largest segment of the student

Enlightened Despotism in Prussia
Assignment: 1
Critically examine the main features of Enlightened Despotism in 18th century Prussia.
The Enlightenment refers to an important cultural and intellectual movement of the 18th century,
whose goal was to establish knowledge based on an enlightened rationality. Enlightened Absolutism
or Enlightened Despotism as it is more often called can be defined as a form of government strongly
influenced by the wide propagation of ideas and the political philosophy of the Enlightenment. It is a
term first used by the Philosophes in the second half of the 18th century that manifested to describe a
particular phase in the development of absolutism. The term Enlightened Despot refers to those 18th
century monarchs who were familiar with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christian Wolff was the first to introduce the ideas of the Enlightenment into German administrative
theory. His ideas derive from the Enlightenment. According to Wolff, the state was a voluntary
contract between individuals and the main purpose of the state was to further welfare and security. At
the same time, since the state has the duty to plan and implement measures for security and welfare, it
has the right to insist that its citizens obey its orders. It is emphasized that they are bound to do
willingly whatever the authorities deem to be right. These ideas were expounded and elaborated,
without adding anything new, by the German political theorists of the 18th century and particularly by
the followers of Wolff.
In practice, Enlightened Absolutism was certainly not so radical. The Physiocrats never got beyond
the initial stages in the implementation of their doctrines. Thus the French doctrine of Despotisme
Ă©claire remains an interesting trend of thought, but its practical effect was almost nil. The direct
influence of the German 18th century administrative theory was not much as well.
Frederick II of Prussia is often regarded as the first true enlightened despot. He was the first monarch
who declared the sovereign is the first servant of the state and presented Europe with a model of
progressive monarchy. Frederick cultivated friendship with several Philosophes and believed that
inputs from them could be used to make the administration of

Cause And Significance Of The Triple Alliance
The Triple Alliance, which was also known as the Triplice was a secret political and military alliance
between the Germany Empire, Austria Hungary, and Italy formed on 20 May, 1882 and renewed
periodically until World War I. Germany and Austria Hungary had been closely allied since 1879
while Italy desired support against France shortly after it lost its North African ambitions to the
French. Each nation promised mutual support in the event of an attack by any other great power. The
treaty stipulated that Germany and Austria Hungary were to assist Italy if it was attacked by France
without prior provocation. In turn, Italy would assist Germany if it was attacked by France. In the

It guaranteed that both parties would remain neutral towards each other if war broke out between other
nations. The alliance between Russia and France and Bismarckâ€Čs exclusion of Russia from the German
financial market in 1887 prevented the treaty from being renewed in 1890, ending the alliance
between Imperial Germany and the Russian Empire. This allowed the Russian Empire to enter into an
agreement with the United Kingdom and the French Third

Chippewa Indian Culture
The clothing of the Chippewa Indians was oftentimes made of animal skin. The tendons were taken
from the animals and used as thread for the clothing that the Chippewa wore. The men wore a long
piece of animal skin or cloth between their legs and belted it at the hips. The flaps then covered the
front and behind of the men. Leggings were worn by both women and men and sometimes they were
covered with fancy fringe. The leggings were created from animal skin and therefore were quite
insulating during the cold winters. Women sometimes wore long skirts over the top of their leggings.
Women wore a thin blouse, basically like a poncho, that included a cut out at the neck for the head to
go through. Fancy aprons were worn on special occasions. The Chippewa men wore headdresses made
of stiff porcupine hair. These headdresses closely relate the Chippewa to the Mohawk and Mohicans.
Women kept their hair long in length and braided it, with pieces of cloth and shells intermingled in
them. Jewelry was something very important in the Chippewa culture. They wore copper bracelets and
beaded necklaces. Also important in the Chippewa society were tribal tattoos and face paint. These
distinct markings were used in times of war to differentiate between tribes. ... Show more content on

The Chippewa believe that they were given a birch tree from the Wenebojo tribe as a gift. The bark of
the tree was then split into multiple pieces to use. In the springtime, the bark softens and is more
flexible, and the art can begin. The first form of art most common in the Chippewa tribe is called
mazinibaganjigan, or birch bark biting. They took a very thin piece of birch bark and bent it in half.
Then they used their teeth to bite intricate patterns into the wood. When they were finished, they could
unfold the bark and the pattern would be perfectly

Power Tends To Corrupt And Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely
Outline the parts of the introduction to your paper, the main points, the evidence for those points, and
the conclusion of your paper. Introduction: As the saying goes, Power tends to corrupt, and absolute
power corrupts absolutely (Marton). A person may by guided by the noblest of ideals and have a cause
as pure as gold or as radiant as the sun, but the moment they have absolute power there cause will fall
apart and all will have been for not. In Animal Farm by George Orwell, he exemplifies this ideal as we
follow Napoleon and his rise to power, or rather his fall from grace towards complete degradation.
Over the progression of the novel Napoleon tries to actualize the dream of the other farm animals as
he works towards the dream of reaping what one sows . In the process, he is put into a leadership
position where he shows, the corrosive effect that power has his morals as the story progresses
displaying how power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Main Points: The story begins
with Old Major, who is a respected on the farm, and who had given a speech that stirred the animals
emotions towards the idea of rebellion. He used his power of respect and trust to persuade the others
to pursue the vision in his dream by stating, Nearly the whole of the production of our labor is stolen
from us by human beings. There, comrades is the answer to our problems. It is summed up in a single
word Man (Orwell 5).This dream of reaping what one sows made the animals on the

Tucked Away In A Corner Of The Oaks Mall Sits A Quiet...
Tucked away in a corner of The Oaks mall sits a quiet bookstore. Its exterior is something that
resembles stone brick with wooden trimmings. The doors are propped open in an invitation to come in
and peruse the text laden shelves and dawdle amongst countless authors. Plastered on one of the open
doors is a stark black poster advertising an open mic night on the third Friday of every month. Large
glass windows offer not only a glimpse into the bookstore, but also display a variety of new books on
white shelves. At the very top, there are a row of black lamps illuminating the name of the bookstore.
The letters sit proudly above the doors in a cool grey: The Open Book. If you take a moment to look
inside, it s a little overwhelming and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Books new ones that remain to be sorted, you guess tower precariously on either side of the counter,
and above the register is the name of the bookstore in an olive green. Surrounding it are small, framed
chalkboards. They advertise things like story time on Sundays and a book club in intricate
handwriting. Everything has a nostalgic tinge to it. From wooden bookshelves to chalkboard
handwriting, the Open Book seems to be a space removed from the digital age of Kindles and fancy
computer search systems. Even the store décor is reminiscent of a simpler time, with hand lettering
painted on the walls and framed artwork from past art competitions the bookstore has held. But of
course, the first thing that will catch your eye if you enter is the word Vintage painted black in a neat,
serif font along what seems to be the back wall. Curiously, you may approach this wall first, and
without fault it is one of the bookstore s proudest walls. The shelves here are lined with books that
look like they fell out of a library scene in a Hollywood movie. A little dusty, and a little worn, these
books boast of their history. Many of the texts are bound in a deep red or navy blue, labeled in gold
lettering and arranged by color. This wall alone may be the most picturesque in the entire store.
Perhaps you ll open a book, just to take a look.

Essay On Grit
We realized that the only persons we can trust in this world is each other and our families (Marion
Jones). The trait that I will be connecting to is grit. Grit means firmness of mind or spirit. It is a noun.
It can also mean unyielding courage in the face or hardship or danger. Some synonyms of the word
grit are backbone, fortitude, and constancy. An antonym of the word grit is spinelessness. Grit is an
important word because all the people in the pieces of literature had to be firm in their mind and spirit
to keep moving forward. They had to be able to want to keep going and not give up on what they
wanted. They had to get through the hard times by being grit to get to the good things. There are real
world examples of grit. Like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is not allowed in the olympics. With this drug Marion ends up lying to the Federal Government
about it even though she figured out that her coach was lying to her. She ends up doing sometime in
prison for this lie. What helps her get through everyday is by thinking of her family and friends.
Authors use nonfiction literature to influence their reader through grit by showing us the strength they
have in them and how they won t let anyone or anything come in between what they believe in. My
first piece of literature comes from the reading of The Clever Class. Malala is the main character of
this story. She stood up for the rights of girls. She always said that they weren t going to let the
Taliban win or take the girls rights away. She stated We were scared, but our fear was not as strong as
our courage. This connects to the trait grit because she had the mind that they could get through it.
That they had more courage than they did fear. That the people want to get through the Taliban. They
all had the spirit to get through it. There was a part that Malala ran into some Taliban and she wanted
to tell them out. She said to them If I am speaking for my rights, for the rights of girls, I am not doing
anything wrong. God wants to see how we behave in such situations. This connects to grit because
they had the mind that they weren t doing anything wrong and they weren t. They spoke out against
the Taliban to get the rights they wanted for girls.

The World Of The Great Crusade
You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months.
The eyes of the world are upon you is what was heard by nearly 160,000 allied troops. And for many,
it was the last thing they heard. On June 6th, 1944 one of the biggest invasions in history was
underway, Operation Overlord, more commonly known as the battle of Normandy. With the fall of
France in 1940, and the invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, Germany s power seemed endless.
British Prime Minister Winston Churchill believed that even with the help of the United States, Britain
did not have the adequate forces to take back Europe and wished to avoid costly frontal assaults.
(Operation Overlord) In attempts to take back Europe, there were plans and operations such as
operation round up and operation sledgehammer that were put forward in 1942 and 1943 but neither
of them were deemed practical or likely to succeed by the British. In response, the Allies decided to
launch the invasion of French North Africa in 1942, the invasion of Sicily in 1943, and the invasion of
Italy. These invasions did not cause a major impact in the taking back of Europe but were able to
provide plenty of intangibles such as valuable experience in invasions and amphibious warfare, the
use of naval warfare combined with aerial warfare. The decision for a cross channel invasion which
became the battle of Normandy was taken at the Trident Conference in Washington in May 1943. With

Improving Financial Disclosure And Transparency
Improving on Financial Disclosure Transparency in the Municipal Bond Market
ISSUE
Today, the municipal bond market holds nearly $3.7 trillion in principal outstanding from over one
million unique issues. This debt primarily finances public projects for the 46,000 local and state
government issuers participating in the market. Unfortunately, exemptions for disclosure requirements
as well as an ineffective regulatory structure cultivated a municipal bond market that, unlike the
corporate equity market, remains opaque.
Improving current financial disclosure requirements and increasing transparency in the municipal
bond market will reduce information asymmetry in the market and may lower borrowing costs and
transaction fees for municipal issuers.
For the purposes of this brief, transparency refers to the degree to which information is publicly
available. In the municipal bond market, this includes quotations of pricing securities and volumes of
transactions.
⋅ Pre trade transparency refers to information about the pricing and size of a security prior to issue.
⋅ Post trade transparency includes real time data about transactions.
Additionally, disclosure includes any financial information released by issuers.
⋅ Primary market disclosure refers to official statements submitted by issuers.
⋅ Continuing disclosure consists of a variety of financial information about a bond after the issuance.
In general, continuing disclosure data provide an idea of the financial

Supernatural Character in Octavio Paz s Short Story, My...
Mexican born author, Octavio Paz, in his short story, My Life with the wave suggests the protagonist
is symbolic and then remains a supernatural character best understood in literal terms. He supports his
claim by showing the reader the speakers difficulty of finding a place for the wave out of the ocean,
how the protagonist suffers imprisonment for a crime he did not commit, and of how through the
death of the wave the protagonist is able to free himself from the pain and torment he faced when he
was engaged in a relationship with the wave. Paz s intention is to use the symbolism in order show the
negative side of falling in love. Octavio Paz adopts an intense tone for the somber reader. The short
story Life with the Wave, written by Octavio Paz leads us through an intense relationship between a
simple man and a wave. Octavio Paz uses the wave to symbolize a woman. The wave can also be seen
as changing just as humans do, she was a white plume of vapor then soon...fell in a fine rain (pg. 264).
It seemed like love at first sight, she refused to go back No, her decision was made. She couldn t go
back. I tried sweetness, hardness, irony. (pg.263) I explained to her that it was impossible, that life in
the city was not what she had been able to imagine with the ingenuousness of a wave that had never
left the sea. (pg. 263) She cried, screamed, hugged, and threatened. I had to apologize. (pg.263) The
wave is not a person; she is a thing with human emotions. The

Elizabeth Harman On Family Farm
Philosopher Elizabeth Harman argues that painlessly killing an animal is impermissible if we have
strong moral reasons against causing them pain (Harman 2011). She bases her argument on the
premise that animals have moral status, and that harming something with moral status is
impermissible. Harman claims that an action which painlessly kills an animal harms the animal,
therefore this practice is impermissible unless justified by other considerations. I compare factory
farming and family farming before explaining how the latter challenges Harman s argument. Factory
farming inflicts great suffering on animals. The operation focuses on maximizing profit and efficiency
at the expense of animal welfare. Conditions are egregious. Animals are crammed into unsanitary and
tight spaces where they find it almost impossible to move. Genetically manipulated to increase output,
animals grow larger than what their bodies can naturally sustain. Now consider the humane practice of
family farming which largely eliminates the recently mentioned atrocities. Animals roam freely
outdoors instead of being confined in an enclosure for 24 hours. Conditions are much more desirable

Nevertheless, there is a caveat to consider. What if family farms and its animals did not exist at all?
Could nonexistence be relatively better than family farming? Framed in another way, is family
farming worse than nonexistence? It is unclear how such comparisons can be definitively concluded.
For the most part, it is incoherent to assert that one s existence could be better or worse for it because
relatively speaking, there is no applicable comparison. There cannot be anyone (or animal) for whom
it is better or worse never to exist (McMahan 2011). What can be evaluated is whether or not an
individual s existence is good or bad for

Boys with eating disorders have stated that their father has often pressured them into excelling in
sports and there are often very high expectations in this arena. (Romero, 1994) As a result of this

control his life in some way, and he sees an opportunity in controlling his bodies. By taking their
previously obsessive behavior in academics and sports and expanding that obsession into eating as

in dieting as well. There are three major differences between males and females when it comes to
dieting. The first is the reason for dieting, woman tend to diet because they feel fat whereas men start

women, men diet to maintain certain goals in relation to an athletic activity, for example to avoid

In his article, How Do You Say Sex?, Jonathon Green describes how we are using more slangs words
in our life than the original words. Now a day, we keep generating more slang words just to make the
original word looks fancier, shorter and stylish. In addition, a group or a community create a slang
word, so that word can only be used within a particular group. Once that slang word is being used by
other group now it is a time to generate a new slang to replace the old one. This is how the slang
language has been dominating the society. For instance, a word stupid has 1,000 slangs. Why? The
theory behind creating a new slang is to control others in that particular crowd, and the new slang

  • 2. The Fairie Queene Analysis Skill of the Week: Reading for Women in Power Throughout time, Chasity is a virtue of positive connotation but seems to have a fluctuating denotation. In our modern world, the Urban Dictionary website defines chastity as more than just abstinence. It s choosing not to have sex because you recognize the value of your own sexuality. (UrbanDictionary.com). This definition allows for some leeway as it leaves room for possible intercourse as long as it is valued. However, the reputable Oxford Dictionary narrows the meaning to The state or practice of refraining from extramarital, or especially from all, sexual intercourse. (OxfordDictionary.com) This Middle English definition leaves no room for hanky panky. In the Fairie Queene, Edmund Spenser uses three predominate characters to create a Spenserian definition of chastity. In Canto 4, Spencer introduces the character Florimell. At that time, she is being pursued by Arthur and Guyon (3.4.12). Furthermore, in Canto 5, more drama arises when Arthur learns that Florimell is searching for her beloved Marinell (3.5.2). Florimell is noted as the most beautiful female character in the epic and spends much of her time running away from almost all of the male characters within the poem because they are in love with her. She relies on her ability to flee from men with lustful intentions. This character shows how Spenser defines chastity as purity and innocence as Florimell flees from temptation instead of taking it on like a modern day ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Literary Interpretation In The Storm By Kate Chopin The Storm by Kate Chopin The entire setting of the story The Storm by Kate Chopin is an accurate reflection of an adulterous situation. It employs the symbol The Storm to portray an exact circumstance that acknowledges the existence of unfaithfulness through adultery. The story took place in the period 1800s and gives a clear account of an affair that constituted Calixta who was the protective mother to Bibi and the wife to Bobinot, Alcee, the husband to Clarisse. The relationship among the people above took place at the prime time when there existed a violent rainstorm. As such, the depiction of the rainstorm does not give an account of a particular coincidence that occurred behind the whole scene but represents an external influence through which the proximity of the narration and the affair appeared simultaneously. The narrative begins with the storm occurrence, reaches its peak and ceases, so happens in paradox along with the relationship and the story. The whole scene is a true tale and a replication of a how females were sexually burdened in the 19th century period under the notion of male chauvinism and superiority. It also explicates women discovery of their rights and freedom over their body and relations. What is intriguing is the nearness of critical thickness subordinate impacts acting in a deferred way on the diverse conceptive parameters broke down. The generation record and the regenerative rates were not affected by the precipitation design. The multiplication list speaks to the extent of regenerative females and adolescents in the populace. Therefore, one conceivable reason for the non huge relationship amongst precipitation and multiplication record might be the expansion of grown up movement after stormy winters (Lima and Jaksic unpublished work). Then again, the regenerative rate is a gauge of the quantity of adolescents delivered by a female amid the reproducing season, and includes the litter size, litter number and the survival rates of the posterity. Consequently, our outcomes propose that precipitation does not impact these parameters. This is a fascinating result, in light of the fact that an expansion in the quantity of litters created by females after abnormally stormy winters has been hypothesized as one of the instruments activating populace episodes of this species. A few studies have discovered abundant proof of social cooperation s in microtine rodents, including spatial conduct, territoriality and forceful experiences. Contextualising genre within the Hong Kong film industry: Of all the international film industries across the globe Hong Kong is certainly one that is synonyms with genre cinema. Considering the commercial nature of its film industry, it seems only appropriate that when discussing Hong Kong cinema as a whole, genre seems to be a frequent and integral part of the conversation. The Hong Kong film industry was built to turn a profit and has become the dominant figure in all of East Asian cinema, relying heavily on exporting its films to Mainland China and Taiwan, as well as local box office sales. Ding Tzann Lii describes this relationship as one of marginal imperialism and compares the Hong Kong industries hold over East Asia to that of Hollywood s over the rest of the world. (1998: 125) However, with such a large demand for product Hong Kong has struggled to produce enough films each year to maintain its industries growth. • 17. Characteristics Of Romanticism Jonathan and Jessica Wordsworth. New York, NY: Penguin Books, 2005. Print. Review by Gloria Wan, Oxford College of Emory University The Penguin Books of Romantic Poetry includes a collections of romantic poetry from later eighteen centuries to the early nineteenth century. At the peak of Romanticism, there were many social and political changes occurred including the French Revolution, Napoleon s expansion in Europe, the Congress of Vienna, the conflict between conservatism and liberalism, Industrial revolution and so on. Romantic poets used poems to express their emotions of their love for nature, longing for the ancient legends, and they tried to use their emotions and feelings to understand the world around them including the French Revolution, slavery, industrial revolution and the Napoleonic war. However, after the Revolution of 1848, the wave of romanticism died out and realism emerged. Many romantic poetries praised the beauty and the power of the nature, and this can be seen as one of the characteristic of Romanticism. In the poem Ode to the West Wind by Percy Shelley, it talked about wind has the power to change the season from autumn to spring, and it can also bring rain and hail in the sky and waves in the ocean. As he wrote in his poem Oh wild west wind, thou breath of autumn s being, thou, from whose unseen presence the leaves dead are driven, like ghosts from an enchanter fleeing...the winged seeds, where they lie cold and low, each like a corpse within its ... The dining table had a total of six chairs, including the host s. I noticed that the spacing between the chairs were relatively of close distance, showing how Meals identify social boundaries surrounding familiarity with people, and these are articulated around ideas of people s intimacy and distance (Crowther 161). An elaborate plate of food was set out for each guest, as her parents had cooked us steak with roasted potatoes, grilled asparagus, corn, a piece of bread, as well as a dish of cream spaghetti. There was also sparkling water and regular water to drink along with the meal. For all of the guests, this meal was especially enjoyable because we were all students dorming in college, so we had not eaten a home cooked meal in a long time. This can be reconnected to the topic of commensality, as The sharing of food reinforces ties, forges new memories, and allows people to reflect on the importance of eating together (Crowther 151). In Korean culture, it is respectable for the guests to help set the table with the necessary utensils, as it also shows the parents that we are appreciative of the meal. Right as the plate of food was set on the table, everyone began to take out their phones, waiting to capture pictures of the food. As Noam Chomsky once said, Humanity is made up of sniffles, happiness, and anger in a bundle of internal thoughts. In the novel, Light, by Eva Figes, she exhibits illuminates the story by studying the human condition. She also demonstrates how ideas and the character s nature are associated with a theme. As a result, Figes uses grief and childhood to illustrate the characters actions, imagery from the text, as well as aspects of the individuals. The grandduaghter then becomes fascinated with what she is observing her environment: Laying back down in bed she then begins to observe the leafy hinged panels and a clear light coming into the room, creating a bigger perspective (Figes 21). The excerpt presents Lily s childhood state. She is curious about what is happening in her bedroom. The text also exemplifies Lily s character through the usage of light by studying its features. A little while Lily is attracted to a pond full of water lilies: The aquatic plants then began to unbolt, layer after layer with rows of flowery petals folded back to the sky, revealing many light hues (Figes 35). The quote shows that as Lily approaches the flowers on the pond, each plant reflects brilliance from the sun. She also uses nature to describe the various aspects of light bouncing from the sky. The character s essence represents her childhood because she is curious about the natural features from the earth. The author then uses figurative language to reveal the aesthetics in nature. While I have attended many college classes, none have taught me quite like my fieldwork experience did. No book or lecture could fully prepare me for situations in the classroom. Jefferson elementary displayed positive insight to an elementary classroom, such as different teaching styles, personalities, administration and learning disabilities. The Enlightenment refers to an important cultural and intellectual movement of the 18th century, whose goal was to establish knowledge based on an enlightened rationality. Enlightened Absolutism or Enlightened Despotism as it is more often called can be defined as a form of government strongly influenced by the wide propagation of ideas and the political philosophy of the Enlightenment. Christian Wolff was the first to introduce the ideas of the Enlightenment into German administrative theory. His ideas derive from the Enlightenment. According to Wolff, the state was a voluntary contract between individuals and the main purpose of the state was to further welfare and security. At the same time, since the state has the duty to plan and implement measures for security and welfare, it has the right to insist that its citizens obey its orders. It is emphasized that they are bound to do willingly whatever the authorities deem to be right. These ideas were expounded and elaborated, without adding anything new, by the German political theorists of the 18th century and particularly by the followers of Wolff. In practice, Enlightened Absolutism was certainly not so radical. The Physiocrats never got beyond the initial stages in the implementation of their doctrines. Thus the French doctrine of Despotisme Ă©claire remains an interesting trend of thought, but its practical effect was almost nil. The direct influence of the German 18th century administrative theory was not much as well. Frederick II of Prussia is often regarded as the first true enlightened despot. Introduction: As the saying goes, Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely (Marton). A person may by guided by the noblest of ideals and have a cause as pure as gold or as radiant as the sun, but the moment they have absolute power there cause will fall apart and all will have been for not. In Animal Farm by George Orwell, he exemplifies this ideal as we follow Napoleon and his rise to power, or rather his fall from grace towards complete degradation. Over the progression of the novel Napoleon tries to actualize the dream of the other farm animals as he works towards the dream of reaping what one sows . In the process, he is put into a leadership position where he shows, the corrosive effect that power has his morals as the story progresses displaying how power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Main Points: The story begins with Old Major, who is a respected on the farm, and who had given a speech that stirred the animals emotions towards the idea of rebellion. He used his power of respect and trust to persuade the others to pursue the vision in his dream by stating, Nearly the whole of the production of our labor is stolen from us by human beings. • 28. Essay On Grit We realized that the only persons we can trust in this world is each other and our families (Marion Jones). The trait that I will be connecting to is grit. Grit means firmness of mind or spirit. It is a noun. It can also mean unyielding courage in the face or hardship or danger. Some synonyms of the word grit are backbone, fortitude, and constancy. An antonym of the word grit is spinelessness. Grit is an important word because all the people in the pieces of literature had to be firm in their mind and spirit to keep moving forward. Authors use nonfiction literature to influence their reader through grit by showing us the strength they have in them and how they won t let anyone or anything come in between what they believe in. My first piece of literature comes from the reading of The Clever Class. Malala is the main character of this story. She stood up for the rights of girls. She always said that they weren t going to let the Taliban win or take the girls rights away. She stated We were scared, but our fear was not as strong as our courage. They all had the spirit to get through it. There was a part that Malala ran into some Taliban and she wanted to tell them out. She said to them If I am speaking for my rights, for the rights of girls, I am not doing anything wrong. God wants to see how we behave in such situations. On June 6th, 1944 one of the biggest invasions in history was underway, Operation Overlord, more commonly known as the battle of Normandy. With the fall of France in 1940, and the invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, Germany s power seemed endless. British Prime Minister Winston Churchill believed that even with the help of the United States, Britain did not have the adequate forces to take back Europe and wished to avoid costly frontal assaults. (Operation Overlord) In attempts to take back Europe, there were plans and operations such as operation round up and operation sledgehammer that were put forward in 1942 and 1943 but neither of them were deemed practical or likely to succeed by the British. In response, the Allies decided to launch the invasion of French North Africa in 1942, the invasion of Sicily in 1943, and the invasion of Italy. These invasions did not cause a major impact in the taking back of Europe but were able to provide plenty of intangibles such as valuable experience in invasions and amphibious warfare, the use of naval warfare combined with aerial warfare. She bases her argument on the premise that animals have moral status, and that harming something with moral status is impermissible. Harman claims that an action which painlessly kills an animal harms the animal, therefore this practice is impermissible unless justified by other considerations. I compare factory farming and family farming before explaining how the latter challenges Harman s argument. Factory farming inflicts great suffering on animals. The operation focuses on maximizing profit and efficiency at the expense of animal welfare. Conditions are egregious. Animals are crammed into unsanitary and tight spaces where they find it almost impossible to move.
