Self Reflective Essay Sample
Crafting a self-reflective essay is an intricate task that demands introspection, a keen sense of
self-awareness, and effective articulation of personal experiences and insights. It involves
delving into the depths of one's thoughts, emotions, and experiences, often requiring the writer
to navigate through the intricate labyrinth of their own consciousness.
The challenge lies not only in recounting past events but also in extracting meaningful lessons
and personal growth from those experiences. The writer must introspectively analyze the impact
of various incidents on their life, acknowledging both strengths and weaknesses. This self-
evaluative process demands a delicate balance between objectivity and subjectivity, as it
necessitates an honest portrayal of one's journey.
Expressing these reflections in a coherent and engaging manner adds another layer of
complexity. The writer must master the art of seamlessly weaving personal anecdotes with
insightful analysis, ensuring that the narrative flows smoothly and captivates the reader's
attention. Striking the right tone – one that is both reflective and analytical – is crucial to
convey the depth of personal understanding and growth.
Moreover, crafting a self-reflective essay involves a constant revisiting and revision of thoughts
and ideas. It is not a linear process; rather, it requires the writer to revisit and refine their
reflections, often challenging preconceived notions and discovering new insights along the way.
In essence, writing a self-reflective essay is akin to embarking on a journey of self-discovery
through words. It demands time, patience, and a willingness to confront and explore the
intricacies of one's own experiences. The difficulty lies not only in the technical aspects of essay
composition but also in the emotional labor of baring one's soul on paper.
To navigate through these challenges, some may find assistance beneficial. If you're looking for

Kyoto Inferno Essay
The Rurouni Kenshin : Kyoto Inferno is just as good as the first unlike some
swordplay genre movies like Solomon Kane, The mask of Zorro, The Duelists, and
The Vampire Hunt which are very brutal. The Rurouni Kenshin Kyoto Inferno and
its leading character Himura Kenshin also known as Hitokiri Battosai is very
admirable for he refuses in vowing to never kill again. This movie have the right mix
of being faithful with the plot and changing a little of the original storyline to be
consistent with the first. Every characteris well played by the actors. The costmes and
the setting also added in setting the mood of the movie. For a whole major arc of the
manga or anime squeezed into a two hour movie, The Rurouni Kenshin: Kyooto
Inferno had made an impressive one.
The movie is around civil war era assassin Shishio Makoto with his Juppongatana, a
group of ten master swordsmen whose skills are legendary as their brutality, who
wants to overthrow the government. Much like Kenshin, Shishio is also an assassin
before the Meiji Era but is betrayed and escaped his master s plan of his death. Due
to this, he takes up his sword to take revenge to the government that he once served.
Because of their threat to set fire the whole Tokyo, the Meiji... Show more content on

As a result, the movie is fast paced but the director makes up for some downtime so
the viewers can have the time to think and take a breath with the action packed
scenes. The director of Kyoto Inferno covers a massive chunk of the story easily of
the entire Shishio arc. For a non avid fan but have watched the anime, Samurai X,
this movie had made a decent job in its adaptation. Still there is a small weak point in
this movie. The ten master swordsmen, Juponggatana, were very much just in the
background. Also, Aoshi s back story was drastically changed that his struggle was

Montaigne On Solitude
Michel de Montaigne is the author the book On Solitude. In this book Montaigne
brings up many topics and discusses his views on them and what these nouns do to
men in the world. Some of these topics are solitude, as stated in the title, sadness,
fear, books, as well as a few others. In these topics Montaigne elaborates on how
these objects and states of being can affect a person s life in both positive and
negative ways, but most of the affects that will be talked about are negative. In any
case, Montaigne s point of view on such objects connect even to today s times. To
begin, let s talk about solitude. In Montaigne s essay or chapter labeled On Solitude ,
he brings up a quote in Latin that when translated means, Does knowing mean nothing

Houston Astrodome Essay
During the 1960s, while the United States was going through a civil infrastructure
revolution, Texas lead the way in innovative ways; creating modern marvels that
would go onto to become Wonders of the World. Once such building in particular
lead a technical revolution, here in the city of Houston. Home to several
professional sports team, and later a registered as a national land mark, the Texas
created Houston Astrodome was the first in what would become multi purposed
indoor sports arenas. Like the saying goes, everything is bigger in Texas. Nothing
can hold more true to that statement than the marvel of what is the Houston
Astrodome. Conceived by former city mayor Roy Hofheinz, designed by the Morris
Architects (Ballparks by Munsey and Suppes), the Houston Astrodome broke ground
in 1962 and was completed in November 1964. After her completion, she would be
dubbed the 8th Wonder of the World. Before her inception, there was no other
indoor, multi purposed sports stadium in the country. Opening Day was April 9th,
1965 to a sold out crowd between the Houston Astros and New York Yankees.

Back in the 1960s, nothing of this magnitude had been achieved before. Leave it to
Texans to fulfil that role of doing it bigger. The Astrodome made such an impact on
the sports world that after its construction, it unofficially became the Eighth Wonder
of the World, establishing its legacy for years to come. Were it not for the ingenuity
of Texans, and their desire to push the limits, perhaps indoor sports stadiums today
would look vastly different. This all falls under just how incredible Texas was during
the 1960s. Houston had a massive and complex highway system, the Johnson Space
Center, and the first indoor sports stadium, make Houston a world famous
Essay on sweatshops
Sweatshops
As companies grow larger and more competitive, they are looking for cheaper
ways to produce their wares and increase their profit. That is, after all, how
companies are able to succeed, by giving their customers a comparable product for a
cheaper price. This increases sales and the overall bottom line. Which seems to be a
beneficial plan for both the companies and the consumers. That is, as long as the
consumers don t know how the product is being produced. The places that produce
these products for an extremely cheap cost are called Sweatshops . A sweatshop is a
small manufacturing establishment in which employees work long hours under
substandard conditions for low wages. Sweatshops came about ... Show more content

The wages and conditions of the work environment are good in relation to other
opportunities the citizens of these countries have. Not only do these people now have
a job that feeds their families, they are learning skills that may benefit them in the
future. The companies may also argue that they are not violating any laws that the
country has enacted. Without the use of cheap labor in foreign markets not only
would the company and it s stockholders lose profits, but the products being produced
would be more expensive when entering the United States market. This in turn would
adversely affect the American consumer.
Fortunately, companies can afford to pay workers higher wages. If this were not
true they would not have been able to become so successful with production in the
United States. It is a shame that any company would see themselves as being
morally or ethically correct allowing it s employees to work in a hazardous
environment. Companies should want their employees to enjoy the place they work
in. This would increase satisfaction in the work place, which would in turn increase
production and decrease employee turnover.
We as investors and consumers should not only act in our own self interest, but also
in the interest of the common good. Companies should invest their clients money in
companies that want to eradicate sweatshops, to ensure that their products are made
in compliance of labor

Political Polarization And Culture War Essay
Political scientists Wilson and Fiorina both tackle the concepts of party polarization
and culture war through the lens of the 2004 U.S presidential election. In 2016, their
musings are, for the most part, still highly applicable. Neither denies the existence of
either a culture war or political polarization. Rather, their theses differ in the extent to
which they apply these terms to the general electorate rather than to the political
elites. Wilson argues that both elites and voters are polarized, a phenomenon driven
by the media, homogenization of political parties, and interest groups.1 However,
Fiorina maintains that the polarization in the voting patterns of the electorate is
merely a reflection of elitepartisan stances rather than the polarization of the voters
themselves.2 In examining their arguments, it is evident that Fiorina had the more
tenable thesis in regard to the polarization of the electorate in 2004. Yet this does not
preclude the existence of a culture war that has led polarization in 2016. Today,
Wilson s theories are more applicable to the political and cultural context. Looking
towards the 2018 midterm elections, the Democratic party in particular should focus
on cultivating moderate stances that can appeal to both Democrats and Republicans
with the aim of gaining seats in the Senate and House of Representatives. Writing in
the political landscape prior to the 2004 presidential election, Fiorina frequently
invokes the 2000 presidential election as
The Importance Of Accessibility On Your Patients
The Importance of Accessibility When you are accessible to your patients, they trust
you. Your patients know that if they have an emergency at 2 a.m., they have a way to
contact you. With the technological advancements in communication, patients expect
their healthcare providers to take advantage of texting, emailing, calling and social
media; therefore, if you disregard these methods of communication, you may lose
potential clients. Furthermore, accessibility builds loyalty because your patients are
more likely to return and recommend your practice when your systems are
accessible. Personalization Makes Patients Feel Important No one wants to feel like

West Point Crew Team Case Study
Faced with an unfamiliar problem, Coach P, of the West Point Crew team, had a JV
boat that was consistently outperforming the Varsity team on different measures.
Upon preliminary analysis, it appears that the problem is simple: the selection of the
varsity team was flawed and many of the athletes were misjudged and subsequently
misplaced. However, the coach analyzed this possible flaw through seat races and
even decided to demote varsity rowers to the JV team and JV rowers to the varsity
team; the unlikely outcome was that the JV boat would win by even more, meaning
that the demoted rower actually made the JV boat faster. This unlikely outcome
revealed a deeper flaw within the Varsity team s attitudes and motivations that sharply
contrasted with those of the Junior Varsity team.... Show more content on

Varsity rowers attributed their failures to external factors, while underestimating the
contribution of internal factors; rowers would not only blame each other, but blame
the coach for making them race against the JV team so often. Though the Varsity
team had the most physically capable rowers, their motivation and group cohesion
was virtually non existent. Though Coach P tried to create group cohesion through
the email initiative, he did not try to fix the problems at its core. There are many
possible solutions, however, it is clear that switching rowers and boats altogether
would be detrimental to the entire team, especially so late into the season. Only by
analyzing motivational concepts and incorporating them into a solution, can the
Varsity team unlock its true
Examples Of Irony In The Convergence Of The Twain
In Thomas Hardy s poem, The Convergence of the Twain , the speaker displays a
peaceful and nonviolent interpretation towards the tragedy of the sinking of the grand
ship known as the Titanic. By using immense amounts of irony, personification, and
irony, Hardy is able to strengthen his claim that sinking of the Titanic was destined to
occur due to both vanityof humans and mother nature. The first section of The
Convergence of the Twain illustrates how humans are the cause of the sinking of
the ship. The section also describes how the ship is free from human vanity and
how it finally gets to be at peace. Instead of viewing this event as a tragedy, it is
viewed in a positive way with a more peaceful and tranquil ending. In lines 2 and 3,
Deep from human vanity, And the Pride of Life that planned her, stilly couches she ,
it explains how as a result of the ship being at the ocean floor, she is away from
human corruption. Due to humans believing that they could create such a ship that
could defy the laws of nature, becoming unsinkable, they didn t take any precautions
into consideration causing her to be at peace on the ocean floor. In lines 3 through 5,
Steel chambers, late the pyres Of her salamandrine fires, Cold currents thrid, and turn
to rhythmic tidal lyres , explains that the ship goes through a transition in which the
engines of the ship being as bright as a salamandrine fires to cold currents turning

Effective Training Program Essay
Exercise is done by majority of people in order to improve one s health and fitness.
Everyone is able to improve their own health and fitness by exercising in order to
achieve proficient physical abilities. Not only can an individual perform and commit
to particular activities for personal health, but also purposes such as sport
performance, body size, strength and conditioning, etc; all of which can be achieved
from specific exercises performed consistently with the appropriate nutrition and rest
in place. Athletes typically do exercisein order to become proficient at their own
fitness and specified skills of their sport. Thus if all individuals perform exercise, we

The first training program is called periodization. This program divides the training
process into specific phases or mesocycles, over a certain amount of time, focusing
the manipulation of training variables such as loads, sets, and repetitions, in order to
maximize training adaptations. Selye s General Adaptation Syndrome was the classic
understanding of periodization, stating that systems will adapt to any stressors

Analysis Of Katherine Paterson s Bridge
Imagination and the ability to hope and dream flow through this novel like liquid
gold, it will transform the minds of readers everywhere. Katherine Paterson s Bridge
to Terabithia, is being questioned for its content and has the possibility of being
banned. This cannot happen. Right off the bat, this book emphasizes the silly and fun
dreams of childhood. Secondly, this book incorporates the importance of imagination
and creative minds into almost every chapter. The major issue that critics have in this
novel, is the claim that it is showing a large amount of negativity towards religion,
specifically Christianity. But Paterson has her reasons for this, and subtly includes it
perfectly. Also, the offensive language has many parents worried about children
reading this novel, but the language is used very sparingly and serves a purpose in
developing the plot and character traits. Despite Bridge to Terabithia being questioned
for its negativity toward religion, the incorporation of offensive language, and the
presence of violence, the book contains extreme emphasis on creativity, imagination,
and friendship, while also teaching valuable life lessons. Do not let it slip through the
hands of the next generation of readers.
Bridge to Terabithia was written in 1977, it is set in rural Virginia during the 1970s.It

Autism Spectrum Disorders Prevalence
Autism Prevalence Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) refers to a group of
developmental brain disorders that affect a child s cognitive, behavioral, and
social abilities (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). There are several forms
of ASD that have different impairments and levels of severity. Recent research has
been looking at the increased prevalence of ASD and possible causes of this
increase. In attempts to determine reasons for the increased prevalence of ASD,
Schieve et al. examined the relationship between the risk factors of pregnancy and
the increase in ASD. A mathematical model was created to identify and measure if
such a relationship existed. In the model, the research looked at each risk factor of
pregnancy, individually and in combination, and if there was any evidence that
these risk factors impacted an ASD (Schieve et al., 2011). If there was an impact
found, they looked at how much of an impact it made. The pregnancy data is from
the U.S population based surveillance datasets. Although the different pregnancy risk
factors were associated with ASDs, Schieve et al. determined that the increase in
ASD due to pregnancy risk factors is minimal (2011). Another study looked into a
different explanation for the increased prevalence of ASD in the population. As
compared to the Schieve et al. (2011) study, Kogan et al. (2009) conducted research
by using randomly dialed telephone surveys. The research participants consisted

Evil In Things Fall Apart
The story Things Fall Apart is surrounded around a character by the name of
Okonkwo. Okonkwo s father was a broke, poor, and weak man whom left Okonkwo
nothing. As a result, Okonkwo is an impulsive man that acts without thinking and
typically treats others with a bad personality. As the story advances you notice that
Okonkwoportrays many brutal actions that assist the plot in creating a theme and
organization.
Okonkwo s violent tendencies aid the story in advancing the plot in a few ways.
One way his violence advances the plot is by creating a distinguished personality
for the main character, Okonkwo. The main character of a story defines the plot, so
it helps your understanding when you can better identify the main character. For
example, the story states, He pressed the trigger and there was a loud report
accompanied by the wail of his wives and children. He threw down the gun and
jumped into the barn and there lay the woman, very much shaken and frightened but
quite unhurt. He heaved a heavy sigh and went away with the gun. Okonkwo nearly
shoots his wife, but then displays worry for her which is contrary to his otherwise
vicious personality (pg 28). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

resides with each other in peace. Okonkwo did not regard this and beat his wife. As
a result, he had to bring one she goat, one hen, a length of cloth and a hundred
cowries to the Shrine of Ani. The Week of Peace also signifies their culture which
Okonkwo did not consider to be important. This also shows that they have a structure
of law which brings another aspect to the plot of the

He learned whaling and purchased the equipment from the Norwegians. Hence,
modern, commercial whaling began in Japan in 1898 long after the industry had
been established in Europe and the Americas ( Traditional Japanese Whaling ). It
is very confusing when you try to look at the origins of whaling, when you look at
the little villages in Japan they started whaling for food and not really whale oil,
so I was surprised that they never really took an interest in whaling until the late
19th century. Then you have websites and people saying this Whaling began in

Mao Zedong Of The World Essay
Though Mao Zedong would argue the people wield the power to change history, they
do not. Perhaps they should, but that concerns epistemological questions. And while
elements of Mao s perspective that the people comprise the motive force in the
making of world history wafted around in compelling the U.S. to intervene in Iraqin
2003, it is not a sufficient explanation. The people did not form the chief reason for
the Iraqi campaign, and certainly did not originate the intervention alone , as Mao s
philosophy would suggest. Alternatively, Scottish philosopher Thomas Carlyle
contends, The history of the world is but the biography of great men. He rightly
locates the locus of watershed moments in history: great men. At the very least, a
few powerful men ultimately control the people s destiny both near to and far from
home. In reality, a small, elite group of individuals set the agenda for world order. As
evidenced by the 2003 Iraq War, a tight circle of plutocrats the president, his advisors,
and those with skin in the financial game can steer the course for two entire nations
for a decade.
The Bush Doctrine vastly expanded what the United States deems a vital interest
dragging preГ«mptive action, unilateralism, and anti terrorism under its umbrella.
Democratizing nations plays a critical role in the strategy as well. A spirit of
liberalism flows through the Doctrine, as it attempts to depose tyrannical dictators to
ease relations between nations and foster democracy. It

And one of the most talked about draw backs with the open carry law deal with
law enforcement. Open carry advocates create a potentially very dangerous
situation. When police are called to a man with a gun call they typically are
responding to a situation about which they have few details other than that one or
more people are present at a location and are armed. Officers may have no idea that
these people are simply exercising their rights. Consequently, the law enforcement
response is one of hypervigilant urgency in order to protect the public from an
armed threat. Should the gun carrying person fail to comply with a law

the police are forced to respond in kind for their own protection. It s well and good
in hindsight to say the gun carrier was simply exercising their rights but the result

Importance Of Personal Writing
From an early age, I ve had trouble with writing effectively. I had absolutely no
interest in learning to write, which was mostly because of how difficult it was to me.
Often, I found it boring. As I got older, I found interest in music and poetry, sparking
my interest to learn to write like musicians and poets. Up until that point, I had
always been writingpapers for school, often to write research papers or to write
forced narratives. I never wrote anything for myself until about junior year in high
school. I did always enjoy reading intriguing narratives that others didn t enjoy
though, so that s exactly what I wrote. Even senior year, I was assigned to write a
narrativestory based around Arthurian legends; I was proud of what I wrote... Show

If my audience were a large group of people, my storytelling would be less specific
and more focused on telling the overall idea of the story; I like to include some
overlying theme in the story. The Arthurian legend that I wrote for class was easy
to write and took me about an hour to finish a five page story. It was for my British
literature class in high school. I took all the stereotypes included in Arthurian
legends and tried to turn them into the opposite whilst also including them like the
rubric said. However, I m almost the opposite for professional papers. I still prefer
free writing my essays, but I must stop every minute or so, just to figure out what
to write next. I ve tried using outlines, but it makes me take longer to write since I
would be doing the same stopping and thinking thing that I already do when free
writing. My audience influences the way I write professionally since I know that
somebody is going to read it. I often make sure that what I say is fully explained,
with as much proper grammar as I can use. The best thing about wanting to explain
every detail I can is that I don t like to leave gray area for facts I state; I state the
full explanation if I know what I m talking about. The thing I don t like about writing
professional papers is that usually forced to write about something I really don t find
interesting, which is the biggest determining factor in whether I put time into the
composition or not. I prefer the writing
Formalistic Analysis of Hills Like White Elephants
In an analysis of the story Hills like white elephants by Ernest Hemmingway, one is
forced to take a deep look at the hidden meanings embedded in the story.
Considering the point of view, the significance of the location and its relevance to
the story, the structure of the text, the symbolic meaning of the two landscapes and
the title of the story, the entrails of the story are exposed. Hemmingway s story is
written in an objective or dramatic point of view. The story is told primarily through
dialogue. The narrator has emotionally distanced himself from the characters, and
the true feelings and opinions of the characters are revealed in little clues as the
story progresses. The narrator acts solely as a reporter of the chain of events... Show

She says, Everything tastes of licorice. (Sweet)...all the things you ve waited so
long for, like absinthe (bitter), the combination is bittersweet. A deeper reading
leads to a new understanding of the symbolic meaning of the two landscape
descriptions. They were in stark contrast to each other. One side was barren and
arid, the other green and fertile. The valley of the Ebro was long and white... there
was no shade and no trees... On the other side, were fields of grain and trees. These
opposing landscapes symbolize the contrasting options available to the couple. The
dry side of the valley represented the choice to abort the unborn child and continue
with an empty life filled shallow experiences, (looking) at things and (trying) new
drinks. The fertile side of the valley represents the life the woman desires, one filled
with family and meaningful moments. The story then shifts to the station which was
between two lines of rails this represented the two opposite directions in which they
could have traveled, and the choice that lay in each direction, Madrid being the
place of abortion, and the continuity of the empty life they were used to together, or
toward Barcelona, a new start, a new beginning, with a new life. So railroad station
represented a crossroads or junction at which they had to cross. The title of the story
was simile. The title hills like white elephants also represented the choice that the
couple had to make. A

Today we pick up with a look at the Coverdale translation
COVERDALE:
Myles Coverdale was born in 1488, very little is known about his early life. ,
Coverdale became an Augustinian friar. He was at the house of the Augustinians. In
1535 Coverdale produced the first complete printed translation of the Bible into
English. He became a important leader in religious history. His theological
development is a paradigm of the progress of the English Reformation from 1530 to
1552.
John Rogers, a friend of Tyndales picked up the pen where Tyndale left off and
finished translating the Hebrew Old Testament. In 1539 These were printed in
England and the publisher was so impressed with what he saw, he went to the
Archbishop of Canterbury, in an effort to get the approval to have them published.
The Archbishop consented to help and took them to the King for approval, the King

The Roles Of Moral Codes In The Maurya Empire
Moral codes have prevailed for the length of human civilization in order to establish
conformity. However, moral codes have also been used as a tactic by leaders in order
to isolate the views of their citizens. Isolation allows leaders to make drastic
decisions with less protest. The decisions of the leader can either aid a country or
damage it s harmony. Despite it s possible benefits, moral codes have historically
been abused for selfish pleasure of the leader. Moral codes can be traced back to the
Maurya Empire, where conformity to Dharma was highly encouraged. Ashoka
Maurya transitioned the legacy of his dynasty to become tolerant and peaceful. The
only way he made such a transition was to use moral codes. The ingenious

Patriarchal beliefs were found across the entire prehistoric world and in order to
gain popularity Islam enforced the belief. The primary obstacle was to persuade
women to accept patriarchy, as, the value of [their] life [would be] half that of a
man, (Doc 5). Moral codes proved to be useful, as Islam had grown to be one of the
most popular religions on the globe. Social interactions were intensified and
individuals lives, including women, were mistreated. Their success was shown
through acts such as, stoning women for adultery, (Doc 5). The extreme punishment
for women is evidence of Islam s success in manipulating the women to believe they
are inferior to men. The patriarchal beliefs attracted governments, such as Iran, to
transition into theocracies. Iran changed their government in 1979 and based their
laws on Islamic law. The religions powerful control over peoples minds gave them
the freedom to turn extremist beliefs into casual actions. Though Islam is less harsh
on women today, sexism continues to be an issue in a variety of social environments
across the globe. Moral codes have evidently lasted throughout history, yet the
Maurya Empire, the Church, and Islam all spread the psychological tactic to future
societies. Moral codes today can all be traced back to those three great powers.
Although, current scholars debate on whether the current moral codes are beneficial

Chronic Low Back Pain Essay
Effectiveness of Therapeutic Exercises for Chronic Low Back Pain
Low back pain (LBP) is a major cause of disability wherein it involves nerves,
muscles and bones of the back (Luciana G Macedo, 2008). The sensation of pain
that can be felt can be a dull constant ache or a sudden sharp feeling (National
Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, 2015). The pain felt is identified below
the margin of the last ribs and above the inferior gluteal lines. The pain is usually
caused by certain conditions such as osteoarthritis, herniated discs, rheumatoid
arthritis, etc.
Depending on its duration, low back pain can be classified as acute of the pain is less

It s Time for a More Responsible Approach to Animal Research, Testing, and

The debate about using animals for medical testing has been raging for years. The
struggle always seems to be between extremist animal rights activists who believe
that animals should never be used for research, and scientists who believe that any
use of animals is acceptable. There are a growing number who argue that there must
be a reasonable middle ground. I contend that there must be a significant decrease in
the number of animals used by humans to further human goals. I will give a historical
account of animal use, provide some statistics about animal use, present some
arguments against the use of animals and present Singer s view ... Show more content

These animals include in decreasing order of frequency: mice, rats, birds, rabbits,
guinea pigs, hamsters, farm animals such as pigs and sheep, dogs, primates and cats.
The most common of these, rats and mice, are not protected under the AWA and no
accurate figures are kept on the exact number of these animals that are used
regardless of the fact that they make up 85 90% of all animals used (hsus).
The most common arguments against animal use question the morality, necessity,
and scientific validity of these studies, that is, whether we have the right to perform
such tests, whether we need such tests, and whether these tests provide us with any
useful information. The moral aspects of the animal use debate involve the view of
animals as sentient beings. It is argued that we have a responsibility toward animals
and a moral obligation to not cause them pain or distress (jhsph). Singer argues that
...experimenters often seek to justify experimenting on animals by claiming that the
experiments lead us to discoveries about humans; if this is so, the experimenter must
agree that human and non human animals are similar in crucial respects (p. 65). He
challenges his opponents to the hypothetical question would [they] be prepared to

Gender Roles Of Women s Collective Identity Essay
Gender is one social division in society that plays a significant role in people s
collective identity. While the male gender is the privileged gender in New Zealand
s society, New Zealand s view of masculinity in the 21st century is still an area for
many social struggles and contestation. Ideas of masculinity are instilled at such a
young age and people are socialized to feel pressure to conform to gendernorms
because they are taught to insult or degrade those who are different. This paper
will look at the work of Richard Pringle (2007) and Shane Town (1999) to explore
some of New Zealand s ideas of the male gender and sexuality in Aotearoa/New
Zealand.
Word count: 110
Richard Pringle:
Richard Pringle (2007) work raises the important and sometimes overlooked topic
of male masculinity. Pringle (2007) starts of his work by pointing out that the
construction of masculinity in society is complex. It is different for each social
context and person. This immediately creates a tension of where each individual
sits in the society in which they live. It also means that literature is theoretical and
often key ideas are generalised. It would be an overwhelming piece of research
(although now technologically feasible) to seek everyone s opinion on issues. New
Zealand society demonstrates the belief of a hegemonic masculine society.
Hegemonic masculinity is defined by Pringle (2007) as the collective, dominate,
social belief of the desirable way one should act male. Tony Porter

Roles Of The Private Sector And Partnerships
The roles of the private sector and partnerships continue to gain recognition in the
context of development strategies and international policy making. Agenda 2030
(SDG 17 Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global
partnership of sustainable development ), the report of the Third International
Conference on Financing for Development, and UN agencies strategies for
partnership with the private sector provide a clear call to action for delivering global
partnerships for sustainable development. The HLPF s modalities reinforce this by
encouraging the private sector and civil society to report on their progress in helping
to achieve the SDGs. Collaborations between the public and private sector and civil
society are fundamental to delivering on the SDGs. In a series of rapid fire
presentations, business representatives highlighted examples of what they are doing
to implement each SDG. The presentations were brief, results oriented, and
demonstrated an activity that moved Agenda 2030 forward.
The first speaker session of the SDG Business Forum at the 2016 High Level
Political Forum consisted of 17 rapid fire rounds of business representatives
highlighting examples of actions taken to implement the SDGs.
H.E. Ib Peterson began moderation by politicizing the 2030 Agenda. Governments, he
insisted, need to create conditions in which the private sector can make investments
in sustainable development. Indeed, progress has been made. 92% of businesses
Bohr Model
Postulates of Dalton s Atomic Theory
The main points of Dalton s atomic theory, an explanation of the structure of matter
in terms of different combinations of very small particles, are given by the following
postulates:
1. All matter is composed of indivisible atoms. An atom is an extremely small particle
of matter that retains its identity during chemical reactions.
2. An element is a type of matter composed of only one kind of atom, each atom of a
given kind having the same properties. Mass is one such property. Thus, the atoms of
a given element have a characteristic mass.
3. A compound is a type of matter composed of atoms of two or more elements
chemically combined in fixed proportions. The relative numbers of any two kinds of

Main Points of the Bohr Sommerfeld Model: Electrons are revolving around the
nucleus not only in circular paths but also in some electrical paths. These energy gaps
are so close that normal machine cannot visualize them.
We can explain the multiplicity of hydrogen Atom via this model.
According to quantum mechanics, each electron in an atom is described by four
different quantum numbers, three of which (n, l, and ml) specify the wave function
that gives the probability of finding the electron at various points in space. lt; A wave
function for an electron in an atom is called an atomic orbital. An atomic orbital is
pictured qualitatively by describing the region of space where there is high
probability of finding the electrons. The atomic orbital so pictured has a definite
shape. A fourth quantum number (ms) refers to a magnetic property of electrons
called spin. We first look at quantum numbers, then at atomic orbitals.
Quantum numbers: Numbers to state the exact position of an electron inside an atom
are called Quantum numbers. 1. Principal Quantum Number (n): this quantum
number is the one on which The energy of an electron in an atom principally

Asian American Actors In Modern Media Deal With

Asian American actors in modern media deal with whitewashed film and television,
underrepresentation in major works, and casting in stereotypical roles. These three
problems are rooted in the history of Asian American actors in film and television,
and have been perpetrated by stereotypes that continue to this day. The purpose of this

Asian Americanactors, viewing the stereotypes and stigmas these actors face, and
looking forward to see what can be done by casting directors to reduce harmful
stereotyping and increase diversity in film and television.
History of Asian and Asian American Stereotypes in Film and Television
One problem that arises when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As economic and political tensions faded, a new stereotype replaced Yellow Peril in
film and television. This stereotype, known as the model minority, is believed to have
come around in the 1960s during the civil rights movement as an attempt to create
resentment and tension within America s minority groups (Huh 13).
The model minority stereotype characterized Asian Americans as immigrants that
valued hard work, family, and determination (Mok 192). This appears to be a
positive stereotype that exemplifies the values of the American Dream; however,
academic scholars like Teresa Mok disagree. Mok argues that the model minority
stereotype emphasizes the similarities of Asian Americans and white Americans. In
this sense, the model minority might be seen as assimilating to American culture by
acting whiter (Mok 193). This stereotype was most notably seen in the first all Asian
musical, Flower Drum Song. The plot exacerbated the idea of the model minority,
centering the story around the benefits of assimilation in lieu of keeping with
traditional ways. (Mok 193).
One of the most controversial stereotypes was yellowface. White American actors
often donned yellowface to portray Asian characters: one notable example is that of
Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany s. Rooney s performance was characterized
by taped eyes, fake teeth, and painted skin (Huh 21). These characteristics meant to
capitalize on the race of the character: by changing his appearance to include
Survey Of Residents And Cnas
Task 2: Surveys to Residents and CNAs
After collecting the surveys I distributed, I found very vital data. I surveyed all
competent residents and all employed CNAs. The surveys asked questions based
on the quality of care provided and the stress levels from this issue. Many of the
residents commented that they would like CNAs to stop in and visit. Some of the
CNAs said they could complete all the tasks if a third CNA was on duty.
I created the survey through SurveyMonkey and handed them out personally to each
resident and CNA. The survey provided very conclusive results and made it easy to
get an understanding of what the people involved in the problem thought.
The survey issued to the residents had 25 individual responses. When residents were
asked if the quality of care was inconsistent, 28% said yes, 48% said sometimes,
and 24% said no, as shown in Figure 1. When asked if they were stress out or upset
with the inconsistent care 4 of the resident said no, 9 of the residents said
sometimes, and 12 of the residents said no. When the residents were asked from
their experience if employees were leaving this organization frequently, 80% said
yes and 20% said no, as shown in Figure 2. A fourth of the residents say they get the

Mor and Haran (2009) explain cognitive behavioral therapy is another antidepressant
treatment. CBT has been validated by numerous controlled trials for people with
depression (Mor Haran, 2009). The therapist chose CBT particularly due to the
intervention being able to help clients identify irrational, negative thoughts associated
with depression (Markowitz et al., 1998). In addition, Kumara and Kumar (2016)
suggest that CBT is a popular psychotherapeutic approach which aims to alleviate
distress by modifying cognitive content and process, realigning thinking with reality.
Not only does CBT include cognitive techniques but it incorporates behavioral
components as well (Kumara Kumar, 2016).
Research related to CBT suggests it has a positive impact on adolescent students and
it has helped to reduce the symptoms of depression (Kumara Kumar, 2016). The goal
of CBT therapeutic approach assist adolescents in facilitating insight; this allows
adolescents to be able to control their thought, feelings and actions (Kumara Kumar,
2016). In addition, adolescents who are having depression could experience feelings
of emptiness, anxiety, loneliness, helplessness, guilt, loss of confidence and self
esteem and changes in sleeping and eating habits. In addition to these they often act
out. That is, they always try to cover their depression by acting angry, aggressive,
running away or becoming delinquent (Kumara Kumar, 2016). According to Kumara

Ruth And Babe Ruth
Many would say baseball, America s pastime, is dead; furthermore, there are those
who say that the professional athletes are no longer our role models. Athletes are
said to have no respect, dignity, or love for the game. The critics who state that, have
never been to a Major League Baseball stadium. Yankee Stadium, where an entire
organization reminds you from the moment you step in the park that there still are
those things in every single game played by each team. Not only is the sport alive
and well, but honor, love, respect, and dignity are exemplified through all competitive
teams.
Baseball use to be one of the best games to play and watch as Americans. Being one
of the first professional sports, it represented who we are as a country. Through
baseball, it showed the honor and respect athletes and fans have for this country.
However, this sport seems to be gradually disappearing to something athletes got paid
to do; though, throughout baseball s long life, there are many athletes who still care
about the game. All the way from the early 1900s, with Babe Ruth or Lou Gehrig, to
the more present times, with Jose Fernandez, David Ortiz, or Derek Jeter, they bring
back the deceased game and put meaning into it, making it the most enjoyable it has
ever been.
Babe Ruth was arguably one of the best players known. He showed up to every ball
park, playing that game as if it were his last. Ruth exemplified dignity and love
throughout his many years of baseball. Being

WW11, so that people in the army did not have to get their yeast refrigerated, while
still being able to easily make bread. Activating means to cause an act or function.
Activating dry yeastmakes the yeast makes it thick, bubbly, and foamy. It will be an
off white in color and sometimes appear to be more of a light brown. Yeast is
single celled fungi. There are roughly over 600 species of yeast that we know of.
Many of which can be distributed greatly in nature. Where exactly can we get
yeast? This may be a common question one may have about yeast. Yeast can be
exudates in plants. This includes cacti and the sap of the plants. Also, yeast can be
found in the skins of fruits like grapes, apples, and peaches. You may also get yeast
from the skin of berries. In the past this experiment has been done. It can be found
when you look up the title Yeasty Beasties. On the website, https:/
/www.scientificamerican.com/article/single celled science yeasty beasties/, I found
that this website was doing the project the same way I will be doing mine. After
reading this article I have learned that if you mix sugar and yeast the yeast will eat the

Like why does yeast bubble, when was yeast discovered for baking purposes, and
how do we use yeast in everyday life? Well, when you add a pinch of sugar to your
yeast it will bubble, this is if it s not expired. The yeast feeds on the sugar and once
the released carbon dioxide expires the dough will rise. Adding a pinch of sugar
will be a constant in my project. Vinegar cancels out the ability for yeast to grow,
so this is why many people use vinegar for a home remedy for yeast infections on
the body. With only a small amount of baking soda yeast rises more, but if there is
too much then the growth will get

Network Planning For Multi Robot3
V.Prioritized Planning For Multi Robot3 [3]. In this section, the asynchronous
decentralized multi robot prioritized motion planning problem is considered. The
motivation for the above problem however, there a centralized approach is the
decentralized approach is more suitable for the unmanned aerial vehicles where there
concerns about privacy and communication limitations. Although there is
decentralized synchronous approach, but it is impractical for the real world. But the
decentralized approach is fast enough but such methods are incomplete. In this
section we discuss about the two algorithms first is synchronized decentralized
prioritized planning (SDPP) and second is about asynchronous decentralized
prioritizing planning (ADPP). In... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The algorithms terminates when all robots either hold a path or not able to find a
path. In ADPP, in this algorithm every robot hold the paths which it should avoid.
When robot receives the information it merely upgrade it avoid path list and checks if
the current path is consistent. If the current path is inconsistent the robot triggers new
planning. Otherwise robots remain idle. The evaluation of the proposed ADPP
algorithm with comparison with previous approaches Centralized prioritized planning
(CPP) and SDPP is done. The evaluated runtime characteristics of the algorithms is
the wall clock run time, communication complexity (the number of broadcasted
messages) and solution quality. In the evaluated problem s number of Robots varies
from 30 to 100. The average wall clock run time are depicted in figure 1a. The results
show that the decentralized algorithms requires less run time than the centralized
algorithm. Further, the ADPP performs better than the SDPP. The required number of
exchanged messages are plotted in figure1b.For communication complexity for less
than 60 robots decentralized algorithms outperform the centralized algorithms. The
communication complexity of the decentralized algorithms start exceeding the
centralized algorithms for more than 60 robots. The figure 1c shows the average

Submerged Radial Gates With A Sill
Hydraulics of Submerged Radial Gates with a Sill
Abstract
In this paper the submerged flow through radial gates with and without a gate sill was
experimentally investigated. The effect of different gate sill heights on contraction
coefficient, discharge coefficient, submerged jump length, backup water depth, flow
energy dissipation, and velocity distribution with different hydraulic parameters were
analyzed and graphically presented. A combination of dimensional and regression
analysis tools was employed to develop reliable formulas for estimating the studied
parameters. This paper concluded the negative influence of sills under submerged
radial gates and justified the local scour phenomena occurred immediately
downstream the stilling basin of some existing submerged radial gates with a gate sill
in Egypt.
Keywords: Radial gate; gate sill; submerged flow characteristics; submerged hydraulic
jump; velocity field.
1.Introduction
Radial (tainter) gates are among the most common features of water control
structures in many irrigation networks overall the world. They are employed to
regulate both water level and flow discharge in irrigation canals. Radial gates are
preferred over vertical sluice gates for several advantages. They require smaller
hoisting force, have easier operation, produce lower flow disturbance, and provide
better discharge (Sehgal 1996). The flow through radial gates is classified as either
free flowing or submerged depending upon the tailwater depth and
Persuasive Essay On The Cold War
Who remembers the horrors of World War II with Hitler and the Holocaust? Hitler
was ruthless and destructive and his actions inexcusable. Our good friend Stalin
notably came to our aid near the end of the War to which we are immensely grateful.
However, we must not let this fact blind us of the current situation. The Soviet Union
continues to claim Eastern Europeas protection from German aggression; however,
they are spreading an alarming amount of communist control and we need to get
involved. I m sure I can speak on behalf of all of us that we do not want a repeat of
the mentioned event. In order to maintain peace in Europe and the world, the best
course of action to prevent a nuclear war would be for the U.N. to end the spread of
Communism by isolating Russia and bringing the communist nations to our side by
giving them foreign aid. Right now we face a political war that has evolved
militarily. We are a free, democratic organization fighting against a communist party
that is rapidly spreading their influence in Europe and creating dissension all over.
The Iron Curtainrepresents not only this ideological barrier, but has come to be a
physical matter. The military standoff on the Iron Curtain threatens the safety and
security of Europe as well as creates a division in the continent and between the
nations. With the Iron Curtain in effect, Stalin has broken our agreements made in
the Yalta conference and maintains complete control over the nations in Eastern
Europe. These
Taping Patterns Used In Rock And Metal Music
Tapping is exactly what it sounds like. You tap the strings with both your fret hand
and your pick hand. If you are using a pick you may have to move it from your
finger to the palm of your hand, or anywhere it can be quickly and easily accessed.
Tapping riffs are most commonly found in Rock and Metal music. Your fingers on
your fret hand hold a single fret, while your pick hand taps either one or multiple
frets in a pattern. The different varieties of tapping riffs can be fast and complex, or
slow and simple.
Strumming patterns, as you can guess, is the pattern you strum in. You can strum
downwards or upwards. The pattern can be anything you like. Certain songs may
have a recommended pattern, but the decision to use it is entirely up to the ... Show

This is honestly a number one poor habit. The wrist of your fret hand should be flat
and not over bent when playing. Another common mistake is not replacing strings
when they have run their course. Strings need to be replaced when they break or
become corroded. You can also change them if you wish to use a higher gauge of
strings.
As stated before proper practicing habits can reduce the chance of guitar related
injuries. The most common injury would be carpal tunnel. This is caused by
having your wrist over bending to reach the strings. Holding your guitar neck
higher should help this. Another common injury would be breaking the skin on
your fret hand fingers. This is from playing well after your fingers have begun to
get sore. Pain is your body s way of telling you to stop and by ignoring this, injuries
are bound to happen.
So what is guitar? It is a string instrument with many techniques, parts, advantages
and disadvantages. Can you teach yourself guitar? Yes, you can. Many ways to
learn would be independent study, reading or a real time guitar based video game
that uses a real guitar. Rocksmith 2014 would be a good example. Many people have
learned this way. It was found to be entertaining and educational all in one, but the
most important way to learn guitar, is to
The Conflict Between Palestine And Israel
Throughout this essay you will learn about the conflict between Palestine and Israel.
Many factor took place to cause the conflict between Palestine and Israel, such as, the
history, where the conflict stands today, why both side have a good argument against
one another, and why the attempts at peace have fallen short. The IsraelPalestine
conflict has lasted for a longer time than anyone would have expected. The conflict
elaborated into a gigantic battle when it could have been an easy solve. Overall,
the ongoing conflict should have never gone this far and damaged this many
people s lives throughout Palestine and Israel. Many are confused as to why the
conflict began in the first. The conflict has been happening for years now with
Israel and Palestine fighting over the region of Gaza. The conflict began with a
debate over Palestine and Israel disagreeing over which country gets control over
what part of the land. The primary approach was to give Palestine the control of the
state of Gaza and the West Bank, and leaving the rest of the land to Israel. This plan
they came up with was called the two state solution which was supposed to help
reduce less conflict. Israel and Palestine could have replaced the two state solution
with the one state solution means the would have created a huge Israel or a huge
Palestine in that land, which would have caused bigger controversy among the
countries. Through the whole conflict many civilians have been injured and killed in

When I advise my clients to correct their form of exercise, it means they are
supposed to enhance the quality of execution of their workout routine. A correct
form of the exercise will help you to benefit from exercises up to the maximum
level. There are different levels of exercise forms which are related to weight training.
Let us understand it by doing barbell curl and by examining it from different
aspects, you will understand it better. And a strict form of exercise will not allow
you to bounce your thighs or moving your upper torso as weights are cuddling up.

This form will include strong bounce with other unwanted momentum. In this kind
of form your body will move backword and you will also use your knees to support
the weight going up for. This kind of technique allows you to lift more weight.
This is the time when confusion comes in. A strict form allows you to target only
specific muscles at the same time in reducing the possibility of muscle injuries. You
will not be able to lift heavy weights using this form. As many beginners are say
when you cannot lift heavy weights, it also decreases the intensity level.
On the other hand, sloppy form will allow you to use heavier weights, but at the
same time you will use other muscle groups in the effort to lift at the weights. You
will be able to finish the exercise but this reduces the stress the muscle you have
targeted. This kind of form increases the risk of muscle injuries.
You are supposed to follow the right form of exercise for maximum effectiveness. In
the beginning you may find it difficult to complete your repetitions using the strict
form of exercise. If you make your mind to use only genuine means of exercise then
you will not go in the comfort able zone of sloppy
Wormhole Reflection
SHIP LOG 001: Today s the first day of the mission. I am currently up in my ship,
The Pioneer, and I have just left Earth. I should explain what the purpose of this
mission is exactly. Recently, a group of astronomers discovered an exoplanet
orbiting a star a couple of light years away. The planet may be too far away from
its star to be in the habitable zone, but scientist suggest that life may be possible on
it due geothermal activity, keeping certain spots warm enough to support life. The
only way to find out was to go there. While in the past traveling a few light years
would ve taken hundreds of Earthyears, we can now reach these planets in a matter of
days thanks to technology that allows our ships to create temporary wormholes.
Right now, I am preparing to wormhole to this planets location, but I have some
downtime since I must be a certain distance from Earth to activate the wormhole
generator so that it won t affect Earth, and the only way to entertain myself is by
writing these journal entries or by staring out my window to the black void of space.
The anticipation is growing on me like a tumour. I can only hope the all the money
and supplies that went into this mission won t go to waste.
SHIP LOG 002: Just passed through the wormhole and took my first glance at this
planet, and I was amazed at what I saw. It appeared like a giant globe of ice while
floating there in the emptiness of space, with several green blotches around on its
surface, but that

Julie Andrews, James Earl Jones, And Jim Parsons
If one would to ask you how Julie Andrews, James Earl Jones, and Jim Parsons have
anything in common, the simplest answer besides them all having a name that start
with a J, is that they re among the many actors and actresses that enjoy successful
careers both on stage and on screen. Although film acting differs from stage acting,
the practice can still equip an actorto excel at both. But the point at hand is still at
question, just how do these two different forms of entertainment both come together
with their similarities, but yet separate when it comes to their differences?
Well, for starters, The biggest difference between acting for stage versus acting for
screen is the location of the audience. In a theatre, the stage tends to be far away
from the audience. Depending on the size of the theatre, the actors need to
exaggerate their facial expressions and gestures so even the people towards the
back of the theatre can see what s going on. For example, actors cannot express
sadness with just a single tear onstage, since only the audience members closest to
the stage will see it, leaving everyone else in a world of confusion as to what is
going on right in front of them.
When acting on screen, however, the camera can get extremely close to the actor,
which closes the gap between the audience and the ... Show more content on

For each live theatre performance, actors have just one chance to get thing in order
before they get on stage to perform. That s why it is so important to have a strong
and healthy voice, and to ensure that lines are memorized. Depending on the show or
production budget, microphones may or may not be used during a performance.
Even with a microphone, actors must practice and perform their lines accurately each
time, with crisp diction and clear enunciation. In musicals, actors must get their notes
and lyrics correct on the first try. There are no do overs during a live theatre
The Rural Privilege in A White Heron by Sarah Orne
Jewett...
The Rural Privilege in A White Heron by Sarah Orne Jewett Sarah Orne Jewett s A
White Heron is a brilliant story of an inquisitive young girl named Sylvia. Jewett s
narrative describes Sylvia s experiences within the mystical and inviting woods of
New England. I think a central theme in A White Heron is the dramatization of the
clash between two competing sets of values in late nineteenth century America:
industrial and rural. Sylvia is the main character of the story. We can follow her
through the story to help us see many industrial and rural differences. Inevitably, I
believe that we are encouraged to favor Sylvia s rural environment and values over
the industrial ones. Our first introduction to these competing sets of... Show more

Another example of the clash between industrial and rural values comes from
Sylvia s own memories and recollections. Sylvia has been on the farm for a year
now, but she still thinks about her industrial existence from a year ago. She
wonders if everything is still carrying on in the same way as when she lived in the
town. Sylvia recalls her adolescent adversary: the great red faced boy. I think the
great red faced boy represents the industrial world to some degree because he
frightens Sylvia, and when she thinks of him she wants to escape to the safety of
the bushes. Thus, the rural world and nature are a sanctuary from the industrial
world for Sylvia. Perhaps this escape parallels Sylvia s real escape from the
industrial world to the sanctuary of the farm. I think Jewett supports this by
writing The thought of the great red face boy who used to chase and frighten her
made her hurry along the path to escape from the shadows of the trees (133).
Again, it is important to consider the woods as a shelter for Sylvia. I do not think
that Sylvia is afraid of the trees. Rather, I think this passage seems to reinforce the
idea that Sylvia is escaping from the industrial world, in her memories and in her
values. Yet, at this point in the narrative, I still perceive Sylvia as a fearful and timid
girl. Mrs. Tilley, Sylvia s grandmother, supports this perception by saying that Sylvia
is Afraid of folks (133). Additionally, this

Self Reflective Essay Sample. . 009 Self Reflective Essay Example Essays Reflection Paper On Writing ...

  • 1. Self Reflective Essay Sample Crafting a self-reflective essay is an intricate task that demands introspection, a keen sense of self-awareness, and effective articulation of personal experiences and insights. It involves delving into the depths of one's thoughts, emotions, and experiences, often requiring the writer to navigate through the intricate labyrinth of their own consciousness. The challenge lies not only in recounting past events but also in extracting meaningful lessons and personal growth from those experiences. The writer must introspectively analyze the impact of various incidents on their life, acknowledging both strengths and weaknesses. This self- evaluative process demands a delicate balance between objectivity and subjectivity, as it necessitates an honest portrayal of one's journey. Expressing these reflections in a coherent and engaging manner adds another layer of complexity. The writer must master the art of seamlessly weaving personal anecdotes with insightful analysis, ensuring that the narrative flows smoothly and captivates the reader's attention. Striking the right tone – one that is both reflective and analytical – is crucial to convey the depth of personal understanding and growth. Moreover, crafting a self-reflective essay involves a constant revisiting and revision of thoughts and ideas. It is not a linear process; rather, it requires the writer to revisit and refine their reflections, often challenging preconceived notions and discovering new insights along the way. In essence, writing a self-reflective essay is akin to embarking on a journey of self-discovery through words. It demands time, patience, and a willingness to confront and explore the intricacies of one's own experiences. The difficulty lies not only in the technical aspects of essay composition but also in the emotional labor of baring one's soul on paper. To navigate through these challenges, some may find assistance beneficial. If you're looking for inspiration or guidance, there are resources available that offer samples and professional help. • 2. Kyoto Inferno Essay The Rurouni Kenshin : Kyoto Inferno is just as good as the first unlike some swordplay genre movies like Solomon Kane, The mask of Zorro, The Duelists, and The Vampire Hunt which are very brutal. The Rurouni Kenshin Kyoto Inferno and its leading character Himura Kenshin also known as Hitokiri Battosai is very admirable for he refuses in vowing to never kill again. This movie have the right mix of being faithful with the plot and changing a little of the original storyline to be consistent with the first. Every characteris well played by the actors. The costmes and the setting also added in setting the mood of the movie. For a whole major arc of the manga or anime squeezed into a two hour movie, The Rurouni Kenshin: Kyooto Inferno had made an impressive one. The movie is around civil war era assassin Shishio Makoto with his Juppongatana, a group of ten master swordsmen whose skills are legendary as their brutality, who wants to overthrow the government. Much like Kenshin, Shishio is also an assassin before the Meiji Era but is betrayed and escaped his master s plan of his death. Due to this, he takes up his sword to take revenge to the government that he once served. Because of their threat to set fire the whole Tokyo, the Meiji... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, the movie is fast paced but the director makes up for some downtime so the viewers can have the time to think and take a breath with the action packed scenes. The director of Kyoto Inferno covers a massive chunk of the story easily of the entire Shishio arc. For a non avid fan but have watched the anime, Samurai X, this movie had made a decent job in its adaptation. Still there is a small weak point in this movie. The ten master swordsmen, Juponggatana, were very much just in the background. Also, Aoshi s back story was drastically changed that his struggle was not much

Katrina happened 5 years ago, Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his I Have a Dream Speech on the Washington Mall 47 years ago, and Mother Teresawas born a century ago. Monday: Katrina; Tuesday: I Have a Dream; Today: Mother Teresa After spending a great deal of time on and devoting a good deal of space to the two previous subjects in this series on recent anniversaries, 2005 s devastating Hurricane Katrina and the world changing 1963 I Have a Dream speech by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I had looked forward to writing an innocuous, little piece on one of the two saints I have ever known. Pope John Paul II was one, Mother Teresa was the other. Not that I personally met with either the pope or the Catholic nun Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, later to be known as Mother Teresa, but I felt that a few words commemorating the anniversary of her birth in Shkoder, Albania on August 26th, 1910 were in order. Agnes middle name, Gonxha, meaning Rosebud, may be somewhat difficult to pronounce in English but this

In this book Montaigne brings up many topics and discusses his views on them and what these nouns do to men in the world. Some of these topics are solitude, as stated in the title, sadness, fear, books, as well as a few others. In these topics Montaigne elaborates on how these objects and states of being can affect a person s life in both positive and negative ways, but most of the affects that will be talked about are negative. In any case, Montaigne s point of view on such objects connect even to today s times. To begin, let s talk about solitude. • 5. Houston Astrodome Essay During the 1960s, while the United States was going through a civil infrastructure revolution, Texas lead the way in innovative ways; creating modern marvels that would go onto to become Wonders of the World. Once such building in particular lead a technical revolution, here in the city of Houston. Home to several professional sports team, and later a registered as a national land mark, the Texas created Houston Astrodome was the first in what would become multi purposed indoor sports arenas. Like the saying goes, everything is bigger in Texas. Nothing can hold more true to that statement than the marvel of what is the Houston Astrodome. Conceived by former city mayor Roy Hofheinz, designed by the Morris Architects (Ballparks by Munsey and Suppes), the Houston Astrodome broke ground in 1962 and was completed in November 1964. After her completion, she would be dubbed the 8th Wonder of the World. Before her inception, there was no other indoor, multi purposed sports stadium in the country. Opening Day was April 9th, 1965 to a sold out crowd between the Houston Astros and New York Yankees. Between opening day, and her final game... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Back in the 1960s, nothing of this magnitude had been achieved before. Leave it to Texans to fulfil that role of doing it bigger. The Astrodome made such an impact on the sports world that after its construction, it unofficially became the Eighth Wonder of the World, establishing its legacy for years to come. Were it not for the ingenuity of Texans, and their desire to push the limits, perhaps indoor sports stadiums today would look vastly different. This all falls under just how incredible Texas was during the 1960s. Houston had a massive and complex highway system, the Johnson Space Center, and the first indoor sports stadium, make Houston a world famous
  • 6. Essay on sweatshops Sweatshops As companies grow larger and more competitive, they are looking for cheaper ways to produce their wares and increase their profit. That is, after all, how companies are able to succeed, by giving their customers a comparable product for a cheaper price. This increases sales and the overall bottom line. Which seems to be a beneficial plan for both the companies and the consumers. That is, as long as the consumers don t know how the product is being produced. The places that produce these products for an extremely cheap cost are called Sweatshops . The wages and conditions of the work environment are good in relation to other opportunities the citizens of these countries have. Not only do these people now have a job that feeds their families, they are learning skills that may benefit them in the future. The companies may also argue that they are not violating any laws that the country has enacted. Without the use of cheap labor in foreign markets not only would the company and it s stockholders lose profits, but the products being produced would be more expensive when entering the United States market. This in turn would adversely affect the American consumer. Fortunately, companies can afford to pay workers higher wages. If this were not true they would not have been able to become so successful with production in the United States. It is a shame that any company would see themselves as being morally or ethically correct allowing it s employees to work in a hazardous environment. Companies should want their employees to enjoy the place they work in. This would increase satisfaction in the work place, which would in turn increase production and decrease employee turnover. We as investors and consumers should not only act in our own self interest, but also in the interest of the common good. Companies should invest their clients money in companies that want to eradicate sweatshops, to ensure that their products are made in compliance of labor

  • 9. Political Polarization And Culture War Essay Political scientists Wilson and Fiorina both tackle the concepts of party polarization and culture war through the lens of the 2004 U.S presidential election. In 2016, their musings are, for the most part, still highly applicable. Neither denies the existence of either a culture war or political polarization. Rather, their theses differ in the extent to which they apply these terms to the general electorate rather than to the political elites. Wilson argues that both elites and voters are polarized, a phenomenon driven by the media, homogenization of political parties, and interest groups.1 However, Fiorina maintains that the polarization in the voting patterns of the electorate is merely a reflection of elitepartisan stances rather than the polarization of the voters themselves.2 In examining their arguments, it is evident that Fiorina had the more tenable thesis in regard to the polarization of the electorate in 2004. Yet this does not preclude the existence of a culture war that has led polarization in 2016. Today, Wilson s theories are more applicable to the political and cultural context. Looking towards the 2018 midterm elections, the Democratic party in particular should focus on cultivating moderate stances that can appeal to both Democrats and Republicans with the aim of gaining seats in the Senate and House of Representatives. Writing in the political landscape prior to the 2004 presidential election, Fiorina frequently invokes the 2000 presidential election as

West Point Crew Team Case Study Faced with an unfamiliar problem, Coach P, of the West Point Crew team, had a JV boat that was consistently outperforming the Varsity team on different measures. Upon preliminary analysis, it appears that the problem is simple: the selection of the varsity team was flawed and many of the athletes were misjudged and subsequently misplaced. However, the coach analyzed this possible flaw through seat races and even decided to demote varsity rowers to the JV team and JV rowers to the varsity team; the unlikely outcome was that the JV boat would win by even more, meaning that the demoted rower actually made the JV boat faster. This unlikely outcome revealed a deeper flaw within the Varsity team s attitudes and motivations that sharply contrasted with those of the Junior Varsity team.... Though Coach P tried to create group cohesion through the email initiative, he did not try to fix the problems at its core. Only by analyzing motivational concepts and incorporating them into a solution, can the Varsity team unlock its true

By using immense amounts of irony, personification, and irony, Hardy is able to strengthen his claim that sinking of the Titanic was destined to occur due to both vanityof humans and mother nature. The first section of The Convergence of the Twain illustrates how humans are the cause of the sinking of the ship. The section also describes how the ship is free from human vanity and how it finally gets to be at peace. Instead of viewing this event as a tragedy, it is viewed in a positive way with a more peaceful and tranquil ending. In lines 2 and 3, Deep from human vanity, And the Pride of Life that planned her, stilly couches she , it explains how as a result of the ship being at the ocean floor, she is away from human corruption. Right off the bat, this book emphasizes the silly and fun dreams of childhood. Secondly, this book incorporates the importance of imagination and creative minds into almost every chapter. The major issue that critics have in this novel, is the claim that it is showing a large amount of negativity towards religion, specifically Christianity. Autism Spectrum Disorders Prevalence Autism Prevalence Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) refers to a group of developmental brain disorders that affect a child s cognitive, behavioral, and social abilities (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). There are several forms of ASD that have different impairments and levels of severity. Recent research has been looking at the increased prevalence of ASD and possible causes of this increase. In attempts to determine reasons for the increased prevalence of ASD, Schieve et al. examined the relationship between the risk factors of pregnancy and the increase in ASD. A mathematical model was created to identify and measure if such a relationship existed. In the model, the research looked at each risk factor of pregnancy, individually and in combination, and if there was any evidence that these risk factors impacted an ASD (Schieve et al., 2011). If there was an impact found, they looked at how much of an impact it made. The pregnancy data is from the U.S population based surveillance datasets. Although the different pregnancy risk factors were associated with ASDs, Schieve et al. determined that the increase in ASD due to pregnancy risk factors is minimal (2011). Another study looked into a different explanation for the increased prevalence of ASD in the population. As compared to the Schieve et al. (2011) study, Kogan et al. As the story advances you notice that Okonkwoportrays many brutal actions that assist the plot in creating a theme and organization. And while elements of Mao s perspective that the people comprise the motive force in the making of world history wafted around in compelling the U.S. to intervene in Iraqin 2003, it is not a sufficient explanation. The people did not form the chief reason for the Iraqi campaign, and certainly did not originate the intervention alone , as Mao s philosophy would suggest. Alternatively, Scottish philosopher Thomas Carlyle contends, The history of the world is but the biography of great men. He rightly locates the locus of watershed moments in history: great men. Officers may have no idea that these people are simply exercising their rights. Consequently, the law enforcement response is one of hypervigilant urgency in order to protect the public from an armed threat. Should the gun carrying person fail to comply with a law enforcement instruction or move in a way that could be construed as threatening, the police are forced to respond in kind for their own protection. The primary obstacle was to persuade women to accept patriarchy, as, the value of [their] life [would be] half that of a man, (Doc 5). Their success was shown through acts such as, stoning women for adultery, (Doc 5). The extreme punishment for women is evidence of Islam s success in manipulating the women to believe they are inferior to men. The patriarchal beliefs attracted governments, such as Iran, to transition into theocracies. Iran changed their government in 1979 and based their laws on Islamic law. These animals include in decreasing order of frequency: mice, rats, birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, farm animals such as pigs and sheep, dogs, primates and cats. The most common of these, rats and mice, are not protected under the AWA and no accurate figures are kept on the exact number of these animals that are used regardless of the fact that they make up 85 90% of all animals used (hsus). The most common arguments against animal use question the morality, necessity, and scientific validity of these studies, that is, whether we have the right to perform such tests, whether we need such tests, and whether these tests provide us with any useful information. The moral aspects of the animal use debate involve the view of animals as sentient beings. It is argued that we have a responsibility toward animals and a moral obligation to not cause them pain or distress (jhsph). Singer argues that ...experimenters often seek to justify experimenting on animals by claiming that the experiments lead us to discoveries about humans; if this is so, the experimenter must agree that human and non human animals are similar in crucial respects (p. 65). He challenges his opponents to the hypothetical question would [they] be prepared to perform their experiments

  • 31. Gender Roles Of Women s Collective Identity Essay Gender is one social division in society that plays a significant role in people s collective identity. While the male gender is the privileged gender in New Zealand s society, New Zealand s view of masculinity in the 21st century is still an area for many social struggles and contestation. Ideas of masculinity are instilled at such a young age and people are socialized to feel pressure to conform to gendernorms because they are taught to insult or degrade those who are different. This paper will look at the work of Richard Pringle (2007) and Shane Town (1999) to explore some of New Zealand s ideas of the male gender and sexuality in Aotearoa/New Zealand. Word count: 110 Richard Pringle: Richard Pringle (2007) work raises the important and sometimes overlooked topic of male masculinity. Pringle (2007) starts of his work by pointing out that the construction of masculinity in society is complex. It is different for each social context and person. This immediately creates a tension of where each individual sits in the society in which they live. It also means that literature is theoretical and often key ideas are generalised. It would be an overwhelming piece of research (although now technologically feasible) to seek everyone s opinion on issues. New Zealand society demonstrates the belief of a hegemonic masculine society. Hegemonic masculinity is defined by Pringle (2007) as the collective, dominate, social belief of the desirable way one should act male. Tony Porter

An element is a type of matter composed of only one kind of atom, each atom of a given kind having the same properties. Mass is one such property. As economic and political tensions faded, a new stereotype replaced Yellow Peril in film and television. This stereotype, known as the model minority, is believed to have come around in the 1960s during the civil rights movement as an attempt to create resentment and tension within America s minority groups (Huh 13). The model minority stereotype characterized Asian Americans as immigrants that valued hard work, family, and determination (Mok 192). This appears to be a positive stereotype that exemplifies the values of the American Dream; however, academic scholars like Teresa Mok disagree. Mok argues that the model minority stereotype emphasizes the similarities of Asian Americans and white Americans. In this sense, the model minority might be seen as assimilating to American culture by acting whiter (Mok 193). This stereotype was most notably seen in the first all Asian musical, Flower Drum Song. The plot exacerbated the idea of the model minority, centering the story around the benefits of assimilation in lieu of keeping with traditional ways. (Mok 193). One of the most controversial stereotypes was yellowface. White American actors often donned yellowface to portray Asian characters: one notable example is that of Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany s. Rooney s performance was characterized by taped eyes, fake teeth, and painted skin (Huh 21). These characteristics meant to capitalize on the race of the character: by changing his appearance to include

Julie Andrews, James Earl Jones, And Jim Parsons If one would to ask you how Julie Andrews, James Earl Jones, and Jim Parsons have anything in common, the simplest answer besides them all having a name that start with a J, is that they re among the many actors and actresses that enjoy successful careers both on stage and on screen. Although film acting differs from stage acting, the practice can still equip an actorto excel at both. But the point at hand is still at question, just how do these two different forms of entertainment both come together with their similarities, but yet separate when it comes to their differences? Well, for starters, The biggest difference between acting for stage versus acting for screen is the location of the audience. In a theatre, the stage tends to be far away from the audience. Depending on the size of the theatre, the actors need to exaggerate their facial expressions and gestures so even the people towards the back of the theatre can see what s going on. For example, actors cannot express sadness with just a single tear onstage, since only the audience members closest to the stage will see it, leaving everyone else in a world of confusion as to what is going on right in front of them. When acting on screen, however, the camera can get extremely close to the actor, which closes the gap between the audience and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For each live theatre performance, actors have just one chance to get thing in order before they get on stage to perform. That s why it is so important to have a strong and healthy voice, and to ensure that lines are memorized. Depending on the show or production budget, microphones may or may not be used during a performance. Even with a microphone, actors must practice and perform their lines accurately each time, with crisp diction and clear enunciation. In musicals, actors must get their notes and lyrics correct on the first try. There are no do overs during a live theatre

The Rural Privilege in A White Heron by Sarah Orne Jewett Sarah Orne Jewett s A White Heron is a brilliant story of an inquisitive young girl named Sylvia. Jewett s narrative describes Sylvia s experiences within the mystical and inviting woods of New England. I think a central theme in A White Heron is the dramatization of the clash between two competing sets of values in late nineteenth century America: industrial and rural. Sylvia is the main character of the story. We can follow her through the story to help us see many industrial and rural differences. Inevitably, I believe that we are encouraged to favor Sylvia s rural environment and values over the industrial ones. Our first introduction to these competing sets of... Sylvia has been on the farm for a year now, but she still thinks about her industrial existence from a year ago. She wonders if everything is still carrying on in the same way as when she lived in the town. Sylvia recalls her adolescent adversary: the great red faced boy. I think the great red faced boy represents the industrial world to some degree because he frightens Sylvia, and when she thinks of him she wants to escape to the safety of the bushes. Thus, the rural world and nature are a sanctuary from the industrial world for Sylvia. Perhaps this escape parallels Sylvia s real escape from the industrial world to the sanctuary of the farm. I think Jewett supports this by writing The thought of the great red face boy who used to chase and frighten her made her hurry along the path to escape from the shadows of the trees (133). Again, it is important to consider the woods as a shelter for Sylvia. I do not think that Sylvia is afraid of the trees. Rather, I think this passage seems to reinforce the idea that Sylvia is escaping from the industrial world, in her memories and in her values. Yet, at this point in the narrative, I still perceive Sylvia as a fearful and timid girl. Mrs. Tilley, Sylvia s grandmother, supports this perception by saying that Sylvia is Afraid of folks (133). Additionally, this
