The Tulsa Race Riot Of 1921
The Tulsa Race Riot of 1921 was the culmination of racial tensions both endemic in American society
as a whole in the period, and certain tensions peculiar to Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1921, Greenwood and
its African American population became the outlet for these often violent tensions seething among
Tulsa s white population. The following paper seeks to shed some further understanding on what
motivated and pushed the whites of Tulsa, Oklahoma to such a violent, extreme reaction during the
riot.
To answer the question, Why were the whites so mean? it is necessary to understand the pre existing
conditions that existed in Tulsa, Oklahoma before the actual riot took place in 1921.
Pre existing racism in Tulsa was the foundation on which all the other causes of the riot were built
upon. Wide spread segregation was still common in America at that time and it was accepted by many
in the North and South that whites were inherently superior to blacks. These views were particularly
strong in the South, where emancipated blacks were seen as a threat and scourge to white Southern
culture, a culture which was utterly dominated by whites and where blacks were oppressed with no
hope of equal protection under the law, equal representation, etc. This was also the case in Tulsa in the
early 1900s. Blacks were segregated against by the white residents and as a consequence formed their
own community, called Greenwood, on the north side of the Frisco Railroad tracks, which was
heralded by

Purpose Of The Sugar Act And The Stamp Act
The Sugar act and the Stamp act were two British laws that were passed by the British Parliament. The
sugar act was passed in the year of 1764 and in 1765, a year later the Stamp act was passed. Both of
these laws, the Stamp Act and the Sugar Act were created to raise a revenue for the British. The Stamp
Act was passed by the British Parliament and it meant that all taxes were imposed on all of the
American colonists. The Stamp Act was being targeted to regulating trade and commerce. The Stamp
Act required that all of the American Colonist pay tax on every printed paper that was being used.
Printed paper included things such as legal documents, licenses, newspapers, and even playing cards
to all be taxed. The tax money that was being collected by the Stamp Act was all being used to help
pay for the 10,000 troops that were to be located on the American frontier by Appalachian Mountain.

The Sugar Act was a revenue raising act that was passed by the British Parliament. The purpose of the
Sugar Act was to lower the tax on molasses to be able to persuade the importers to buy more molasses
from the British colonies instead of smuggling it from the French and the Spanish colonies. The
Molasses Act colonial merchants requires to pay a tax of six pence per gallon on the importation of the
foreign molasses. The Sugar Act then reduced the rate of tax on molasses from six pence down to
three pence per gallon. The Sugar Act also taxed additional foreign goods such as wines, coffee and
cambric. The Sugar Act was designed to maintain commerce and

Auditing Stages
The aim of this discussion is to explain how an auditor goes about the process of auditing financial
statements and presents the five basic stages that the auditor performed during the financial statement
audit at Maryward Primary School in Kwekwe for the year ending 31 December 2012. In order to be
in a position to fulfil auditing responsibility to report on the client s annual financial statements, the
auditor followed a series of procedures and activities as required by the auditing profession. The
auditor applied the following audit stages: pre engagement activities, planning, test of controls,
substantive procedures, completion and reporting.

Inherent risk as per ISA 400 is the susceptibility of an account balance or class of transactions to
misstatements that could be material, individually or when aggregated with misstatements in other

risk and inherent risk as it is an essential part of audit planning to help in determining the quality and
quantity of evidence gathered and the staff that needed to be assigned to the particular audit. The
auditor also obtained an understanding of the business and its environment in order to assess the risk
of material misstatement. ISA 310 requires a reasonable understanding of the client s business and
industry. The nature of the client s business and industry affects the client business risk and the risk of
material misstatements in the financial statements. The auditor used the knowledge of these risks to
determine the appropriate amount of audit evidence gathered. The auditor through experience is aware
of the exposure to problems resulting from the auditor s failure to understand comprehensively the
nature of transactions in the client s business. The understanding helped the auditor to evaluate the
design and implementation of specific controls that could stop or discover and rectify material

Article by Bartley
In the article by Bartley, it looks at how the West should believe in itself a little bit more and they
should see how they are different. The article looks at communication and how it will insure that
democracy survives and it mediates our understanding of the world. The article also looks at the clash
of civilizations and how the conflicts will not be over resources but it will be over the fundamental
and often irreconcilable values. This will make the U.S. and the West on the defensive. The article also
talks about how there has been a lot of interest in cultural, ethnic and religious values in the Islamic
fundamentalism. The article looks at how people in the other countries are being educated in the U.S.
There is also a power of prosperity where Western values are becoming an artifact of an exogenous
civilization, but a lot of people believe that they are an artifact of economic development itself. At a
certain level of prosperity people want power and that the economic development leads to demands
for democracy and individual autonomy. The future is no sure thing and it is all about the people. In
the article by Wilson, it looks at the concept of American Exceptionalism. The article talks about how
we should embrace our values in the country and we should be proud of who we are in the world
system. The article looks at how we are truly different and distinct. There are a couple of problems in
our world which is the poor cannot get over certain things and

Essay on Genocide in Rwanda
Genocide in Rwanda
Raphael Lemkin coined the term genocide in 1944. According to Lemkin, genocide signifies the
destruction of a nation or of an ethnic group and implies the existence of a coordinated plan, aimed at
total extermination, to be put into effect against individuals chosen as victims purely, simply, and
exclusively because they are members of the target group. This coordinated plan is committed with the
intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group. According to the
United Nations definition of genocide in their 1948 declaration of the Convention on the Prevention
and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, genocide is a crime under international law and classified
as such: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, genocide has the tendency to occur in rural societies that are communal, divided, and in
the mode of inequality and problematic issues. It also has the tendency to occur when the government
says that it is okay to resolve those problematic issues using violence. An example in which there was
a combination of racism, power struggles, and violence that all led to genocide is in the specific case
of Rwanda between the Hutu and Tutsi populations. Before colonial rule, the Tutsi were herdsmen and
came from the Nile Valley. They brought concepts of power, monarchy, and kingship to Rwanda. The
Tutsi took grazing lands from the Hutu, who were farmers, and lived among them. Gourevitch states
that this was the original inequality: cattle were a more valuable asset than produce #8230;and the
word Tutsi became synonymous with a political and economic elite (p. 48). The Tutsi, who were the
powers of Rwanda, also became the protectors of the Hutu because they were armed with weapons
and spears. Rwanda was certainly an unequal society, but the ethnic boundary was permeable.
Overtime, some Tutsi married Hutu. Also, Hutu farmers could, and did, become wealthy Tutsi and
acquired cattle as chiefs were incorporated into the ruling elite. Much authority was given to Hutu
chiefs and certain obligations were imposed on Tutsi administrators as well.
Colonial rule, however, transformed this

Devaluation Indigenous Women
deliberate devaluation of Indigenous women occurred in 1968 when an Indigenous man convicted of
rape on a reservation would not be penalized as severely if their victim was Indigenous as well.
Decades of colonization and oppression has left a devastating impact on the entirety of society. The
devaluation of Indigenous women was not only a problem of the past, but is still relevant today. The
patriarchy that oppresses all women is addressed by feminists that demand a chance in a male
dominated world. In Indigenous communities, some find it hard to grasp the concept of equality as
women held integral roles. It is important to note how colonization has impacted the feminist
perspective of Indigenous women before colonization. Women were respected

Philosophy Of Egoism
In philosophy, egoism is the theory that one s self is, or should be, the motivation and the goals of one
s own action (Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy). In other words, people will act for their best
interests rather than their employer s organizational goals. Western Culture is an individualistic one,
where people work for the I instead of the we . Using this reasoning, how is it possible to develop
highly engaged workgroups whose goals are aligned with the mission of their organization? This I one
of the questions TWK must answer for its future success. In day five of the temps story, Sarah number
two makes the general view that all work is meaningless even through people were busy and this was
a social failure. Her quote sums the situation perfectly Everyone was busy, but no one was actually
doing anything meaningful. Yes you were busy all day, but so what? This quote alone shows there is a

This problem can be easily overlooked many employees are focused at the immediate task and are not
aware how their actions contribute to the organization as a whole. This results in employees not
having a set goals or goals aligned with the organization s goals. By not having an understanding these
goals employees are disengaged because they feel their work does not contribute to anything
significant other than the immediate goals at hand. If these goals are not understood to the workforce
it becomes increasingly difficult to improve the performance of individuals to the manager s
perspective (business salary). Keeping well preforming employees are vital to the success of any
company. Making people feel disposable significantly alters their performance. Employees who are
likely to outperform but will leave when more desirable opportunities that open up, resulting in a weak

Adolf Hitler Rises to Power in Europe While the U.S....
The instability created in Europe by World War I set the stage for another international conflict World
War II, which broke out two decades later and proved to be even more devastating. Rising to power in
an unstable country, Germany, Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party had ambitions of world domination.
Hitler s invasion of Poland in September 1939 drove Great Britain and France to declare war on
Germany, and World War II had begun. Over the next six years, the conflict would take more lives and
destroy more land and property around the globe than any previous war with estimated 45 60 million
casualties (Stevenson). During World War II various codes were used by American soldiers to relay

The use of the Navajo language to create a code during World War II was the idea of Philip Johnston,
the son of William and Margaret Johnston who were Protestant missionaries to the Navajo (Holm 71).
Johnston was born and raised in the reservation; he was also the one of very few Americans who could
speak the Navajo language precisely (Aaseng 17). In February of 1942, Johnston was able to present
the language to the commanders of the Marine Corps and the idea impressed them, so that they
allowed Johnston to start a Navajo Code Talker Test Program. Later in April, Johnston and the Marine
Corps commanders went to the reservation and recruited thirty men (Aaseng 23). The men that were
recruited marked the start of the pilot program. Of the first thirty men who joined the program, only
twenty nine completed it and went to help the war effort. The two men that had dropped out were not
qualified for service as code talkers for the Marine Corps (Paul 75). This group of the twenty nine
Navajo men came to be called the original twenty nine. The Navajo men that were recruited often
lacked birth certificates so it was impossible for the Marine Corps to verify ages, but after the war it
was discovered that some recruits were as young as fifteen and some were as old as thirty five (Paul
14). Once the Navajo men were given the task to create the code it was not an easy task. Each military

Monarchy Vs. Democracy In Ancient Rome
The Roman government is very unique compared to others. While many places had either a monarchy
or democracy the Romans found a way to have both. The Roman empire had both a senate and an
emperor. The Senate made up the Democracy part having elected officials who although made laws
couldn t without approval of the emperor. The Emperor made up the Monarchy part having the final
say in all important objectives. The Roman Emperor was very much like our modern day president.
He oversaw the senate often conducting the meetings. Before Rome was an empire, it was a republic
with a long history of democratic rule. After ousting the Etruscans and their king, city state was ruled

the first chair, followed by the consuls, censors, praetors, aediles, tribunes and finally, the quaestors.
There were no limits to debating and various methods of delay and subversion were employed.
Among these, the practice of the filibuster, or speaking at incredible lengths to derail the opposition
and delay voting, was a popular one. Voting in the Senate could be taken by voice or show of hands in
unimportant matters, but important or formal motions were decided by a quorum, or an actual physical
division of the house to either side of the floor. In these cases even non voting members were allowed

How The Cras Played A Significant Influence On Investor...
The Big Three global credit rating agencies have garnered immense scrutiny and criticism for the role
they played in the financial crisis and rightly so they were not only at the epicenter of this colossal
debacle but also exacerbated it. There is overwhelming evidence suggesting that the marketing and
sale of the MBSs at the core of this crisis would have been virtually impossible without the CRAs
signing off. The catastrophically inaccurate ratings they granted to securities they rated helped the
markets rally and their eventual massive downgrades left not just the US but also the world economy
in utter disarray. In spite of what arguments these agencies come up with to shy away for any
responsibility the fact remains that they chose big fees and bigger market shares over integrity in a
business that relies on integrity.
To understand how the CRAs played a major role in the crisis, we must first understand why they
became such a significant influence on investor perception. Investors both individual and institutional
look at the CRAs to provide them with risk analysis of a debt security, in form of a credit rating,
which is instrumental to these investors decision making process. The risk originates due to two main
factors: the ultimate mortgage holders never having met the debtors, and the sheer complexity of these
securities that comprise of parts of a plethora of loans. Most individual investors lack the resources to
gauge the creditworthiness of these loans. This

Legalizing Gay Adoption
Legalizing the Adoption of Children by Gay marriage
The adoption of children should be based on finding a home with loving parents. This situation should
not be judged regarding the sexual orientation. Gay marriage is now legal, the next step could be
adopting children without any restrictions whatsoever. The Christian Church and some other religions
overall see this as a wrong doing to humanity, some people believe children might grow up wanting to
be the same. Also, there are many individuals out there in the world who are straight and still mistreat
children, maybe they do not provide the care required to raise their own in a correct way. The adoption
of children by gay people has also been seen as something that is not acceptable, as if ... Show more

There are plenty of disagreements in the United States about what is moral and what is immoral. Some
people believe raising children absent of religion is immoral, yet others who do not practice any
religion can adopt children and be foster parents. Why should this stop gay people from being
adoptive a child? Drinking alcohol could be consider an immoral act, but it does not stop anyone from
being evaluated as a foster parent, adoption should not be based on anybody s sexual orientation. If we
remove all the people who could be considered immoral, we will be left with almost no parents to
adopt children and provide foster care. Most of us agree that it is not right to leave children without a
home when there are plenty of qualified loving parents waiting to raise them. If heterosexual couples
can raise children, gay couples should be given the change to do so too. (J. Michael Bailey, Bobrow,

Male And Female Rapper Through Their Music
Male vs. Female rapper through their music Rap music is really popular to us, young people, and
sometimes adults, too. In my opinion, I think that rap is a way to allow all of the rappers to express
themselves, their voices, their experience, and their feeling from their life. And in some other people
opinion, they also describe rap music as the story or the voice of the streets. According to a music
articles The birth of Rap: A Look Back from NPR.org website, rap music was born and began to
develop in the middle of year 1970s. They are firstly formed and played by the Black communities,
and then slowly spread out to the world. In rap world, at first they are only male rappers who use
music to express themselves and their pain towards the world. Then, women also began to rap to be
able to express their thoughts more and more. Female and male rapper are sharing the same purpose of
express themselves through their song but they are different in the way they use their lyrics, the
subject they choose to rap on and the feeling they express to their fans and their songs listeners.
Female and male rappers are separate themselves when they come to choose their lyrics to rap. I
would say that female rappers are most likely less using negative words to describe thing or someone
else than the male rappers. According to the article From Fly Girls To Bitches and Hos by Joan
Morgan, she stated that male rapper is usually use the word Bitches and Hos when they describe black

Examples Of Root Cause Analysis

Literature Review

2.1. Root Cause Analysis:
In Root Cause Analysis (RCA) is the process of identifying causal factors using a structured approach
with techniques designed to provide a focus for identifying and resolving problems. Tools that assist
groups or individuals in identifying the root causes of problems are known as root cause analysis
tools. Every equipment failure happens for a number of reasons.
There is a definite progression of actions and consequences that lead to a failure. Root Cause
Analysis is a step by step method that leads to the discovery of faults or root cause. An RCA
investigation traces the cause and effect trail from the end failure back to the root cause. It is much
like a detective solving a crime.

Like Cox and Spencer (1998), Dettmer
(1997) has also used root cause analysis on management of constraints. He presents one of the earliest
studies on the debate of applying Root Cause Analysis to processes. A proper management decision is
necessary to succeed the RCA tools and methods in a particular environment. Lepore and Cohen
(1999), Moran et al. (1990), Robson (1993) and Scheinkopf (1999) move ahead that when change is
needed, then think root cause analysing, identifying and eliminating. The foundations of their studies
are pioneering one as they question an accepted practice for root cause analysis and the results of the
example studies are encouraging.
However, the studies are far from being practical one as they include too many parameters and
assumptions. Smith (2000) has explained that Root Cause Tools can resolve conflicting strategies,
policies, and measures. The perception is that one tool is as good as another tool. While the literature
was quite complete on each tool as a stand alone application and their relationship with other problem
solving methods. There are very few literatures available on

The Truth Of The Bible
Question 9 I believe the time isn t relevant as far as wear I will spend eternity, four there s two ways of
that can happen. First of all, nobody is immune to die at any point in time for went is your time to go

God, and if he chooses any other means for you to find truth, you will find it, weather if it is through
dreams or through other Scriptures. However, God can choose to reveal himself outside of
Christianity. I have heard that throughout the Muslim faith several have come to know Jesus through
their own scripture, the Quran. In addition, others have begun to believe in Jesus through dreams.
Perhaps, God can choose any means to reveal himself. I do not know why there are so many different
religions; perhaps, this is what makes us different from each other. Not everybody thinks the same

I. Introduction
Urbanization is likely to be one of the defining phenomena of the 21st Century for Latin America as
well as the rest of the developing world. The world as a whole became more urban than rural
sometime in 2007, a demographic change that was driven by rapid urbanization in the developing
countries. For the Latin American region, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This migration flow contributed to rapid urban growth, population concentration, and territorial
expansion of these large cities. This process took place in relatively large cities with a significant
consumer market together with a relatively good infrastructure and equipment.
Urbanization in Latin America increased in fifty years (1925 1975) from 25% to 61.2%. The pace of
urbanization, however, declined between 1975 and 2000 and currently the proportion of people living
in urban areas reached 75.3%. While for Latin America during the period 1925 1950 the urban growth
rate almost doubled the total growth rate and the urbanization rate was 2.0%, more recently, between
1975 2000 the urban growth rate was just almost 50% higher than the total growth rate and the
urbanization rate fell to 0.8%. To characterize the urbanization process within Latin America is not an
easy task, since there is a great deal of heterogeneity among countries in terms of their population,
territory and sociodemographic characteristics. In the year 2000 there are countries with population
around 100 million inhabitants (Brazil and México) and other with less than five millions
(Uruguay,Jamaica and Panamá).

My Reflection Of APAnd Honors Courses In High School
Throughout high school, I challenged myself by taking multiple AP and Honors courses each year.
While it was gratifying to succeed in the higher level classes, some of the courses did not end up being
a great fit for me, but I always pushed through until the end of the year and strived to complete the
course with grace. The ups and downs in each class taught me my strengths and weaknesses as a
student for example, fast paced Math and Science courses aren t my forte, but I love to be involved in
thought provoking debates during English class. The Renée Crown Honors Program interests me
because it emphasizes an intellectually stimulating and supportive community. Last Spring, I was very
excited to enroll in AP Psychology for my Senior year, as I had heard many wonderful things about

Aids Awareness By Larry Kramer Essay
In 1987, AIDS awareness activist Larry Kramer in his essay, I Can t Believe You Want to Die, wrote,
AIDS is our holocaust and Reagan is our Hitler. Kramer s metaphor of the AIDS epidemic to the
Holocaust is alluring to draw out parallels of genocide however the analogy stops at the fact that the
Holocaust was deliberate human evil disguised as biological research to solve the Jewish problem ,
while HIV/AIDS was an actual disease without a solution that led to genocidal indifference from
government and medical institutions. However, some processes of genocide such as the classification
and dehumanization of a group of people are seen at the Holocaust in the early twentieth century as
well as the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the late twentieth century. The Holocaust stemmed from Adolf
Hitler s violent interpretation of biology and unwillingness to understand the environmental causes of
disease along with its biological ones. The HIV/AIDS epidemic seems to have striking similarities
[i.e. homosexuality and being Jewish as disease or social other] Holocaust event because the people in
power at the start of the epidemic ignored the biological/biomedical need of the victims while at the
same time political leaders only acknowledged the environmental causes and not the biological. In this

resulted in the genocide of Jews, prisoners of war, and gypsies. It will also discuss the ways

1.2 Advantage and Disadvantage of face to face interview
According to Holbrook, Green and Krosnick (2003, p.79), face to face interview is known for its high
quality. Kendall and Kendall (2006, p.110) argue that an a question and answer format is used for
information gathering interview which is a directed conversation with a specific purpose. In fact if we
want to understand why we need to choose interview as a select technique, we need to find out what
we can get from the interview. One thing that we can get from the interview is the opinions of the
interviewee and his or her feelings about the system, organizational and personal goals, and informal
procedures for interacting with information technologies. The truth is that opinions maybe more
important and more revealing than facts. An example can be given as asking the owner of a traditional

Why Cosmetic Surgery Improves Mental Health
Alecia Colvin A main motivator for getting cosmetic surgery is the desire of being more satisfied with
one s own appearance and improving self esteem. However, research has shown that this is not always
the case. There have been variable results showing whether cosmetic surgery will improve
psychological variables such as body image, self esteem, and mental health. Body image specifically
has been suggested to be a crucial factor in the desire to undergo cosmetic surgery. This is based off
two important components including body image evaluation, referring to how satisfied a person is
with his or her own body, and body image orientation, indicating how important body image is for a
person. A person with a low body image evaluation combined with a high body image orientation
increases the likelihood of a person wanting plastic surgery. Mental health aspects have also been
addressed in research literature. The general question here is whether cosmetic surgery improves
mental health despite previous psychological state.
Studies done in the past have shown variable results. Several studies done have mainly looked at
breast reduction. Only a few studies have examined postoperative changes in other cosmetic surgery
procedures or have looked a several surgery types. There has been evidence suggesting that body
image evaluation improves after breast reduction and augmentation surgery. In another study, results
showed no significant improvement with cosmetic surgery.

of the major reasons Fundamental Fury is themed the way it is. Color is a scientific term used to

the color of the roller coaster tracks. The launch track is colored a bright cyan, while the rest of the
roller coaster is colored a vibrant purple chroma. Dense evergreen trees surround many elements of

Analysis Of Ode On A Grecian Urn
Ode on a Grecian Urn This was a strange poem because of the word form and how the words were
used. Getting the hang of what was going on was a little tricky. Keats s elegant style is very interesting
and unique, but made for a bit of a challenge. In order to see a clear opinion on the mood of the poem
I reread it to try and connect and see it as he saw it.
When I read the poem, I could see the importance of the urn and the actions that are portrayed in it.
The descriptive wording that Keats uses makes you think of the past and the events that led up to what
he sees on the urn. Understanding the work of art and its beauty is something that is left up to the
imagination of the viewer. Keats brings the focus of the story within each scene that is depicted on the
well detailed piece.
Furthermore, seeing the work that Keats wrote about in the past, the ode is something that he was
accustomed to. When I first picture the story from the title I thought of the remains of a loved one that
has been lost.
This story is not about the modern use of an urn. The first dramatic scene shows the lack of movement
in the figures giving them little life or a scene of a still frame. The word choice is a way for one to see
how they wrote in their times because of the certain word repetition. Keats describes everything in a
question which made me think that he was making an assumption on the actions of the people
portrayed. What men or gods are these? What maidens loth? What mad pursuit? What

Conspiracy Theories Of The American Conspiracy
Conspiracy has been deeply rooted into American culture since before the Constitution. Many
Americans still believe that there are secret societies of the elite that exert great influence in not just
the American government, but events on an international scale as well. These conspiracy theories
appeal to a populist perspective, one that says that there are people much more powerful than the
average American and they are knowingly infringing on American liberties, with the goal to either
control or harm the country. These supposed conspiracy groups are well known because they have
become engrained in America s culture for hundreds of years; elite groups such as the Illuminati and
the Freemasons are known for stirring political anxiety in the early years of the American Republic.
Some of this anxiety would be justified early on, but much of it would later prove to be hysteria and
paranoia. As those Masonic groups would die down in relevance as the years went on, the paranoia
that they created in conspiracy theorist s minds would be replaced by other branches of secret societies
for the elite that were focused on wealth, political power, and globalist visions. Elite invite only
groups, such as the Bilderbergs, the Skull and Bones, and the Bohemian Club are all looked at by
some conspiracy theorists as organizing a New World Order that is outside of the public s eyes.
Furthermore, other conspiracy theorists believe that it is not the secret societies that Americans should

Massacre, put the British soldiers at a disadvantage that day. However, the British Army had occupied
the city, but they were just following the orders given to them by the British Parliament. They did not

Boston had withstood the life with British soldiers before the Boston Massacre in 1770 for two years.

Thirdly, there was a poor distribution of land to the people. Due to overpopulation, intolerable
pressure was put on the available fertile land. Moreover, the feudal lords controlled their land
viciously, raising the rent to unreasonable prices. In contrast, Hong Xuiquan offered proper
distribution of land according to their needs. Dissatisfied with the government s system, they went
under Hong Xuiquan, who promised a proper system. Another cause of the Taiping Rebellion would
be the impact of an alien Manchu regime. When the various Manchurian tribes unified and defeated
the Ming armies, a young Manchu King Fulin began a large scale invasion into China, establishing the
Qing Dynasty. He abolished the Han culture completely and forced the Chinese into the alien
Manchurian culture. The Hans were ethnically discriminated in government policies, especially when
they were forced to shave the front part of their heads and grow pigtails. This was extremely damaging
to the Hans pride as this symbolised total submission. Furthermore, it contradicted the Han Chinese s
traditional Confucian values that a person s hair could not be shaved in order to show filial piety. The
people s dissatisfaction can be proven as previous emperors were popular when they accepted the Han
culture. To show their discontentment, a large part of the Hans signed up to join Hong s army, which
ultimately went on to start the rebellion. On the other hand, an

Review Of Twelve Steps To A Compassionate Life By Karen...
Compassion means to endure with other person, to put ourselves in somebody s else shoes. It is a
feeling of empathy, which in other words is to feel someone s pain as though if it were our own. The
book Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life by Karen Armstrong, discusses a set of different steps
people should follow in order to be compassionate. Armstrong emphasizes in the importance of
compassion in the world. The world is surrounded with problems that we do not know how to solve
and by being compassionate to one another we can create a compassionate and peaceful world. Every
person in this earth has the possibility to be compassionate to others and this includes treating each

As stated before, some of the steps to take into consideration are steps one and three, which are to
learn more about compassion and to have compassion for ourselves. Nevertheless, step seven, how
little we know is another of the crucial steps to create a change in our value system. This step consists
of understanding that we are not always right. There are a lot of problems that need to be solved in our
lives therefore we must examine our ideas by understanding how little we know. It is a good and
important beginning because people are able to listen to one another. Thinking e know it all only
blocks our knowledge and immediately pushes us backwards. Thinking we know more than other
people only creates a feeling of superiority. Giving people the opportunity to speak their thought while
listening to them, leads to respect for others and respect for ourselves, which is a wonderful
opportunity. Armstrong refers to this step as a step that helps people to become wiser. For instance,
Armstrong said that a person might think they know something when they don t, and someone that
does not know it or even think they know it have a higher possibility of becoming wiser (p. 99). They
are more likely to become wiser because they are open minded where as the other person is blocking
all the other ideas because he thinks he is superior to

Global Engagement by John Nolan
I believe that to be globally engaged is to be constantly aware and apart of what is happening in the
world. Global engagement is necessary to obtain communication between nations to try and prevent
unnecessary events like wars from happening. In his book, Global Engagement, John Nolan writes
that ...Cooperative engagement is the appropriate principle for security relations under the new
international circumstances that have emerged. Cooperative engagement is a strategic principle that
seeks to accomplish its purposes through institutionalized consent rather than through threats of
material or physical coercion. ( Nolan, 1994, p.4) Nolan is saying that apart of Global Engagement is
creating an institution to organize people and problems to prevent catastrophes. Another definition of
Global Engagement is to ...make contacts in other parts of the world, journey to those places and then
develop relationships with the people they meet and work with there. (Presler, 2010, p.17) Global
engagement is to be interactive in the world especially by way of an organization. Pat Robertson is an

Use Of Ceramics In Filtration
Highly porous ceramics (foams, honeycombs, fibres , mats, etc.) find numerous applications in
various engineering fields, including filtration (molten metals, particulate from diesel exhaust gases),
radiant burners, catalyst supports, biomedical devices, kiln furniture, reinforcement for metal matrix
composites, bioreactors, thermal protection systems, supports for space mirrors, components in solid
oxide fuel cells, lightweight sandwich structures, heat exchangers (graphite foams), etc.
Talking about the interest of this report i.e. use of Ceramics in Filtration. During many industrial
processes, a filtering step may be required to remove impurities and improve quality of the final
product. Depending on the process, the filter may be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These inclusions can be removed by placing ceramic filters in the gating system leading to the mold.
Such filters must resist attack at high temperature by a variety of molten metals. These metals can
contain such reactive elements as aluminium, titanium, hafnium, and carbon. Using these filters can
reduce scrap rates by 40% and increase yields by 10% for manufacturing a wide range of parts made
out of iron alloys, stainless steel, super alloys, aluminium, or other nonferrous alloys.
Molten metal filters generally come in two forms: a porous foam like structure with interconnected
pores that vary in direction or cross section, or an extruded porous cellular or honeycomb structure
with cells of various shapes (square or triangular) and constant cross section. Though globally the
most popular type of filter is foam, cellular filters are used in 75% of applications in North America.
Filters can have either open cells or closed cells. Open cell (reticulate) filters consist of a network of
interconnected voids surrounded by a web of ceramic and are widely used for molten metal filtration.
Closed cell filters (foams) consist of a similar network but the beams are bridged by thin faces which
isolate the individual cell. The open porosity in an open cell structure is critical in filter applications.
The properties of a filter depend on both the cellular geometry (density, cell size) and the properties of
the material.

  • 2. The Tulsa Race Riot Of 1921 The Tulsa Race Riot of 1921 was the culmination of racial tensions both endemic in American society as a whole in the period, and certain tensions peculiar to Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1921, Greenwood and its African American population became the outlet for these often violent tensions seething among Tulsa s white population. The following paper seeks to shed some further understanding on what motivated and pushed the whites of Tulsa, Oklahoma to such a violent, extreme reaction during the riot. To answer the question, Why were the whites so mean? it is necessary to understand the pre existing conditions that existed in Tulsa, Oklahoma before the actual riot took place in 1921. Pre existing racism in Tulsa was the foundation on which all the other causes of the riot were built upon. Wide spread segregation was still common in America at that time and it was accepted by many in the North and South that whites were inherently superior to blacks. These views were particularly strong in the South, where emancipated blacks were seen as a threat and scourge to white Southern culture, a culture which was utterly dominated by whites and where blacks were oppressed with no hope of equal protection under the law, equal representation, etc. This was also the case in Tulsa in the early 1900s. Blacks were segregated against by the white residents and as a consequence formed their own community, called Greenwood, on the north side of the Frisco Railroad tracks, which was heralded by ... The sugar act was passed in the year of 1764 and in 1765, a year later the Stamp act was passed. Both of these laws, the Stamp Act and the Sugar Act were created to raise a revenue for the British. The Stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament and it meant that all taxes were imposed on all of the American colonists. The Stamp Act was being targeted to regulating trade and commerce. The Stamp Act required that all of the American Colonist pay tax on every printed paper that was being used. Printed paper included things such as legal documents, licenses, newspapers, and even playing cards to all be taxed. The tax money that was being collected by the Stamp Act was all being used to help pay for the 10,000 troops that were to be located on the American frontier by Appalachian Mountain. ... • 6. Article by Bartley In the article by Bartley, it looks at how the West should believe in itself a little bit more and they should see how they are different. The article looks at communication and how it will insure that democracy survives and it mediates our understanding of the world. The article also looks at the clash of civilizations and how the conflicts will not be over resources but it will be over the fundamental and often irreconcilable values. This will make the U.S. and the West on the defensive. The article also talks about how there has been a lot of interest in cultural, ethnic and religious values in the Islamic fundamentalism. The article looks at how people in the other countries are being educated in the U.S. There is also a power of prosperity where Western values are becoming an artifact of an exogenous civilization, but a lot of people believe that they are an artifact of economic development itself. This coordinated plan is committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group. It also has the tendency to occur when the government says that it is okay to resolve those problematic issues using violence. An example in which there was a combination of racism, power struggles, and violence that all led to genocide is in the specific case of Rwanda between the Hutu and Tutsi populations. Before colonial rule, the Tutsi were herdsmen and came from the Nile Valley. They brought concepts of power, monarchy, and kingship to Rwanda. The Tutsi took grazing lands from the Hutu, who were farmers, and lived among them. Gourevitch states that this was the original inequality: cattle were a more valuable asset than produce #8230;and the word Tutsi became synonymous with a political and economic elite (p. 48). The Tutsi, who were the powers of Rwanda, also became the protectors of the Hutu because they were armed with weapons and spears. Rwanda was certainly an unequal society, but the ethnic boundary was permeable. Overtime, some Tutsi married Hutu. Also, Hutu farmers could, and did, become wealthy Tutsi and acquired cattle as chiefs were incorporated into the ruling elite. The Big Three global credit rating agencies have garnered immense scrutiny and criticism for the role they played in the financial crisis and rightly so they were not only at the epicenter of this colossal debacle but also exacerbated it. There is overwhelming evidence suggesting that the marketing and sale of the MBSs at the core of this crisis would have been virtually impossible without the CRAs signing off. The catastrophically inaccurate ratings they granted to securities they rated helped the markets rally and their eventual massive downgrades left not just the US but also the world economy in utter disarray. In spite of what arguments these agencies come up with to shy away for any responsibility the fact remains that they chose big fees and bigger market shares over integrity in a business that relies on integrity. • 30. Aids Awareness By Larry Kramer Essay In 1987, AIDS awareness activist Larry Kramer in his essay, I Can t Believe You Want to Die, wrote, AIDS is our holocaust and Reagan is our Hitler. Kramer s metaphor of the AIDS epidemic to the Holocaust is alluring to draw out parallels of genocide however the analogy stops at the fact that the Holocaust was deliberate human evil disguised as biological research to solve the Jewish problem , while HIV/AIDS was an actual disease without a solution that led to genocidal indifference from government and medical institutions. However, some processes of genocide such as the classification and dehumanization of a group of people are seen at the Holocaust in the early twentieth century as well as the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the late twentieth century. The Holocaust stemmed from Adolf Hitler s violent interpretation of biology and unwillingness to understand the environmental causes of disease along with its biological ones. The HIV/AIDS epidemic seems to have striking similarities [i.e. homosexuality and being Jewish as disease or social other] Holocaust event because the people in power at the start of the epidemic ignored the biological/biomedical need of the victims while at the same time political leaders only acknowledged the environmental causes and not the biological. In this paper, I will discuss the ways the Holocaust, driven by deliberate biological purposes to purify a race resulted in the genocide of Jews, prisoners of war, and gypsies. • 33. Why Cosmetic Surgery Improves Mental Health Alecia Colvin A main motivator for getting cosmetic surgery is the desire of being more satisfied with one s own appearance and improving self esteem. However, research has shown that this is not always the case. There have been variable results showing whether cosmetic surgery will improve psychological variables such as body image, self esteem, and mental health. Body image specifically has been suggested to be a crucial factor in the desire to undergo cosmetic surgery. This is based off two important components including body image evaluation, referring to how satisfied a person is with his or her own body, and body image orientation, indicating how important body image is for a person. A person with a low body image evaluation combined with a high body image orientation increases the likelihood of a person wanting plastic surgery. Mental health aspects have also been addressed in research literature. The general question here is whether cosmetic surgery improves mental health despite previous psychological state. Studies done in the past have shown variable results. Several studies done have mainly looked at breast reduction. Only a few studies have examined postoperative changes in other cosmetic surgery procedures or have looked a several surgery types. There has been evidence suggesting that body image evaluation improves after breast reduction and augmentation surgery. In another study, results showed no significant improvement with cosmetic surgery. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The launch track is colored a bright cyan, while the rest of the roller coaster is colored a vibrant purple chroma. Dense evergreen trees surround many elements of the ride, providing a beautiful backdrop that contrasts nicely with the ride. • 37. Analysis Of Ode On A Grecian Urn Ode on a Grecian Urn This was a strange poem because of the word form and how the words were used. Getting the hang of what was going on was a little tricky. Keats s elegant style is very interesting and unique, but made for a bit of a challenge. In order to see a clear opinion on the mood of the poem I reread it to try and connect and see it as he saw it. When I read the poem, I could see the importance of the urn and the actions that are portrayed in it. The descriptive wording that Keats uses makes you think of the past and the events that led up to what he sees on the urn. Understanding the work of art and its beauty is something that is left up to the imagination of the viewer. Keats brings the focus of the story within each scene that is depicted on the well detailed piece. Furthermore, seeing the work that Keats wrote about in the past, the ode is something that he was accustomed to. When I first picture the story from the title I thought of the remains of a loved one that has been lost. This story is not about the modern use of an urn. The first dramatic scene shows the lack of movement in the figures giving them little life or a scene of a still frame. The word choice is a way for one to see how they wrote in their times because of the certain word repetition. • 38. Conspiracy Theories Of The American Conspiracy Conspiracy has been deeply rooted into American culture since before the Constitution. Many Americans still believe that there are secret societies of the elite that exert great influence in not just the American government, but events on an international scale as well. These conspiracy theories appeal to a populist perspective, one that says that there are people much more powerful than the average American and they are knowingly infringing on American liberties, with the goal to either control or harm the country. These supposed conspiracy groups are well known because they have become engrained in America s culture for hundreds of years; elite groups such as the Illuminati and the Freemasons are known for stirring political anxiety in the early years of the American Republic. Some of this anxiety would be justified early on, but much of it would later prove to be hysteria and paranoia. As those Masonic groups would die down in relevance as the years went on, the paranoia that they created in conspiracy theorist s minds would be replaced by other branches of secret societies for the elite that were focused on wealth, political power, and globalist visions. Elite invite only groups, such as the Bilderbergs, the Skull and Bones, and the Bohemian Club are all looked at by some conspiracy theorists as organizing a New World Order that is outside of the public s eyes. Dissatisfied with the government s system, they went under Hong Xuiquan, who promised a proper system. Another cause of the Taiping Rebellion would be the impact of an alien Manchu regime. When the various Manchurian tribes unified and defeated the Ming armies, a young Manchu King Fulin began a large scale invasion into China, establishing the Qing Dynasty. He abolished the Han culture completely and forced the Chinese into the alien Manchurian culture. The Hans were ethnically discriminated in government policies, especially when they were forced to shave the front part of their heads and grow pigtails. This was extremely damaging to the Hans pride as this symbolised total submission. Furthermore, it contradicted the Han Chinese s traditional Confucian values that a person s hair could not be shaved in order to show filial piety. Armstrong emphasizes in the importance of compassion in the world. The world is surrounded with problems that we do not know how to solve and by being compassionate to one another we can create a compassionate and peaceful world. Nevertheless, step seven, how little we know is another of the crucial steps to create a change in our value system. This step consists of understanding that we are not always right. There are a lot of problems that need to be solved in our lives therefore we must examine our ideas by understanding how little we know. It is a good and important beginning because people are able to listen to one another. Thinking e know it all only blocks our knowledge and immediately pushes us backwards. Thinking we know more than other people only creates a feeling of superiority. Giving people the opportunity to speak their thought while listening to them, leads to respect for others and respect for ourselves, which is a wonderful opportunity. Armstrong refers to this step as a step that helps people to become wiser. For instance, Armstrong said that a person might think they know something when they don t, and someone that does not know it or even think they know it have a higher possibility of becoming wiser (p. 99). They are more likely to become wiser because they are open minded where as the other person is blocking all the other ideas because he thinks he is superior to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cooperative engagement is a strategic principle that seeks to accomplish its purposes through institutionalized consent rather than through threats of material or physical coercion. Such filters must resist attack at high temperature by a variety of molten metals. These metals can contain such reactive elements as aluminium, titanium, hafnium, and carbon. Using these filters can reduce scrap rates by 40% and increase yields by 10% for manufacturing a wide range of parts made out of iron alloys, stainless steel, super alloys, aluminium, or other nonferrous alloys. Molten metal filters generally come in two forms: a porous foam like structure with interconnected pores that vary in direction or cross section, or an extruded porous cellular or honeycomb structure with cells of various shapes (square or triangular) and constant cross section. Though globally the most popular type of filter is foam, cellular filters are used in 75% of applications in North America. Filters can have either open cells or closed cells. Open cell (reticulate) filters consist of a network of interconnected voids surrounded by a web of ceramic and are widely used for molten metal filtration. Closed cell filters (foams) consist of a similar network but the beams are bridged by thin faces which isolate the individual cell. The open porosity in an open cell structure is critical in filter applications.
