Issues In Rwanda Genocide
The absence within the literature of the central pillars and their composed themes creates problems
when trying to address current and future contention between the international community and
Rwanda. By relying largely on the genocide guilt card, issues important to Rwanda are sometimes
either overlooked or plainly forgotten. The result is miscommunication and misunderstandings that
complicate a delicate situation. For example is the previously mentioned debate on term limits for
President Kagame. Despite the thesis not discussing the third term debate except for the mention in
Chapter Two, it is an important event that will help continue the trend of how Rwanda views the
actions and decisions by international actors.
The debate on whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The issue of abandonment will be brought to the forefront but not in terms of the genocide guilt card.
Rwandan officials will believe that the same states that abandoned Rwanda before and during the
genocide have little ability to criticise the continuation of the only person who did not leave the
country during its darkest periods. President Kagame as leader of the RPF led the campaign to put an
end to the massacres in response to international abandonment of the genocide. This might be easily
misinterpreted as Rwanda promoting genocide guilt to deflect criticism of electing Kagame for more
terms than the current Constitution allows. But at the heart of the issue is the distrust of the
international community. They rather listen to and trust Kagame who did not abandon the country
rather than the countries that did. How he ended the genocide and led the nation into wars with the
DRC is met with the other two themes. Unlike the international community, which seems to
disappoint Rwanda by not properly combating the FDLR , Kagame is credited for promoting the
security of Rwandans by fighting the FDLR and other extremist groups bent on harming Rwanda.
These military campaigns are all through a central belief that Rwanda needs to be self reliant for its
own protection and development. Since the 2012 M23 allegations and aid withdrawal by donors,
Rwandans are increasingly accepting President Kagame s call for self reliance. As discussed in
Chapter Six, his rhetoric campaigns against foreign aid, Kagame continues to instruct Rwandans to
trust that economic development has to come from within Rwanda rather than continual acceptance of
foreign aid. Ronal Nkusi commented how the reduction of aid went beyond just the realm of rhetoric
to include it as a belief to be held by all government officials. This sense

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Web-Based Education
However, there are a few issues to be dealt with if web based learning is fully implemented in
educational institutions. Firstly, change in learning theories and approaches may lead to confusion or
difficulties among teachers and students (Web based Learning: Good or Bad?). As discussed earlier, in
web based learning approach, teachers are facilitators and motivators. It is up to the students in
carrying out the activities planned by the teachers creatively and constructs their knowledge about the
lesson by themselves with guide from the teachers.
Therefore, some of the students might feel lost especially during the early stages of implementation of
this approach as they are used to be spoon fed and depend solely on the teachers to give ... Show more

V. Pawar, of Department of Computer Science,North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon, India, in his
research paper titled Web Based School Education In India: Problems, Considerations, Approaches
Important Features Of Web Based Learning Environment claimed that limited bandwidth of Internet
connection gives slower performance for sound, video and intensive graphics, causing long waits for
downloads that can affect the ease of the learning process .
Therefore, implementation of web based learning in educational institutions might be quite difficult
due to issues such as change in learning approach leads to confusion and difficulties for teachers and
students, and the problem of computer illiteracy and connection and bandwidth issues.
All in all, web based learning leads to some changes in teachers and students role in learning
processes, and it also comes with some prospects and issues in implementing the approach in
educational institutions. However, if it is to be viewed from the perspective of education in Malaysia,
we are moving towards the implementation of this innovative approach. Teachers, regardless of either
the ones working in schools, or in tertiary education institutions, have started to implement web based

The Harlem Renaissance
The Harlem Renaissance writers were able to speak out for African Americans and present to the
world their own culture into American life. This movement allowed African Americans to share their
talents and abilities with the rest of the society and they did not have to feel the least bit ashamed
about it. Through having the chance to share their work, these writers spread across America the new
negro ; an individual who has the power to express, share, and present to the world their own
uniqueness of culture (Locke, 985). Although the Harlem Renaissance made a huge impact on
repairing the psychology of the negro , Langston Hughes contributed a great deal to this movement of
change as well. In his essay, The Negro Artist and The Racial Mountain, ... Show more content on

In his essay, Blueprint for Negro Writing, Richard Wright rejects the Renaissance at which he brings
forward several reasons as to why. To begin, he discusses the role of the negro writing and how the
negro writer does not write to the black audience, but to the whites and through doing so, the negro
writer treats themselves worse than others. In the text, he writes: Rarely was the best of this writing
addressed to the Negro himself, his needs, his sufferings, his aspirations. Through misdirection, Negro
writers have been far better to others than they have been to themselves (Wright, 1403). In his work,
he questions the power of the Negro writers and the path that they are taking. Initially, the negro
writers are not focusing on their own lives, their experiences and condition (Wright, 1403). Another
issue that Wright brings forward in his essay is that Negro writing has been addressed in the main to a
small white audience rather than to a Negro one, it should be stated that no attempt is being made here
to propagate a specious and blatant nationalism (Wright, 1405). Essentially, what Wright is addressing
is that writers are more focused on the white audience rather than the black audience and he states that
a gap continues to widen between them and their people (Wright, 1404). Another point that Wright
makes is that Negros should accept the nationalist implications of their lives, not in order to encourage
them, but in order to change and transcend them (Wright, 1406). In response to this, Wright says that
Negro writers should be focusing on the hardships of their lives, and the fact that their life is not easy
(Wright, 1406). The only way to bring change is to accept the fact that this is the reality. In his work,
he continues to

Analysis Of Resumen Y Metodolomica
Show more content on

study seeks to determine the relationship between the socio economic position of families and the
consumption of electrical energy generated by them. In this study, the most common indicator
(although it is not the most appropriate) regarding the subject, will be taken as a reference of
socioeconomic position; the social stratum. Regarding to the consumption, a data collection will be
made of two sample populations, A and B. Population A corresponds to 50 families associated with a

The Emotional And Criticism Of Romanticism By William...
Introduction Amongst the dogmatic religious past, which when confronted by the enlightened present
became more rigid in its practice and conformity, and enduringly factual and empirical science lived a
man called William Wordsworth, so sentimental and philosophic that even greater minds couldn t
solve completely the cipher that his word created, or rather couldn t completely understand the legacy
that he left for the modern era. Even when heard or looked upon different meaning and various
analogies appear into the mind of people to which it soothes. And this allegory of expression was there

Wordsworth, like other Romantic Poets, with his overwhelming mind observed life with greater
suction and fundamentality; his partaking in the working of life was keen and so minute that when he

transcendental in feelings. In his Preface to the Lyrical Ballads republished in 1800 described a Poet

This is a difference in how people constitute success. There is no set definition to success but many

The Narrator s Perspective In The Lottery, By Shirley Jackson
It was a warm sunny June day when children who are off from school for summer vacation frolicked
about in the town square, gathering stones and then piling them up. The wives and husband talk
casually with those of the same sex and after a few minutes the wives call their children over. After a
few attempts to get the youngsters attention, they scurry over and everyone gather with their families,
and Mr. Summers comes to the center with the black box in hand. Mr. Summers checks to see if
everyone is h there for The Lottery and sees the Tessie Hutchinson is not there, but soon joins the

I was able to gather this by seeing key words such as they and: Tessie Hutchinson was late. There are
many characters in The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, such as Mr. Graves, The children, Tessie
Hutchinson, Mr. Summers. Etc. But one of the ones that really stuck out is Mr. Summers. He is the
only character that the narrator goes into detail about; even if it s not the typical description. He is
described as round faced jovial man who has time and energy. That description consequently makes
him a round character, everyone else is really flat cause not much description was given for them. He
is also static, because he seems to stay the same, and to me he seems bored due to his tone in the
beginning and the end. Mr. Summers is the antagonist, so is everyone else in the village which
includes Tessie who was stoned to death. I say this because everyone is condoning such acts of evil,
and Tessie didn t say anything till it was her facing evil, even though she too has stoned someone in
the past. Characterization is given indirectly, because the reader doesn t even get a sense of who Mr.
Summers or any of the other characters really are until the end. Mr. Summer holds great deal of
significance and symbolism. He represents the start of the summer, which brings the lottery each year.

Prepositions Essay
Prepositions are words that establish relationships between words in a sentence or phrase. Except for
the prepositions a and de that are contracted when used with the article el , prepositions are invariable.
Spanish sentences never end in a preposition. It is placed before an object which can be a noun, a verb
used as a noun, or a pronoun.
Spanish prepositions are used in the same way that English prepositions are used but it can be tricky to
translate prepositions literally as each preposition can mean differently on either language depending
on the context of the sentence.

Jeep Research Paper
Personal Question
Why do I keep my Jeep when it keeps breaking down on me? That is the question that I have asked
myself multiple times over the summer. To this day, I have put more time, effort and money into my
Jeep than it is actually worth. So why continue to restore this beautifully ancient beast? Well, the
answer is actually very simple; I love working on it. When I was first told that I was getting an
automobile, I expected to go out and hand pick one that I deemed suitable for my everyday tasks. To
my surprise, my father pretty much narrowed the selection process down for me, providing me with a
specific list of Craigslist adds that he had compiled during his work day. After browsing this selection,
I had settled on a 1987 light blue Jeep Wrangler, with a soft top and a sport roll cage. This jeep came
with the legendary fuel injected 4.0 Liter, 6 cylinder engine, aptly nicknamed the Tank , due to its
sturdy construction of cast iron. The fact that we found this jeep for under five thousand dollars was
astonishing to me, so I immediately jumped on the opportunity presented to me. When my father and I
had finally settled on this Jeep, we drove to savannah to inspect it ourselves. When we arrived at the

Mass Movement In Eric Kushner s A Bright Room Called Day
Nowadays, mass movement is defined as an assimilation process, where people throw away their own
personal identities and follow submissively the orders of their leaders. The idea of people being
obedient to some of the cruelest orders, such as killing millions of people in the Holocaust, surprises
many people. Thus, many authors decide to find out the answer by bringing up many opinions about
the creation of the mass movement in their own books or plays for discussion. One of those authors is
Eric Hoffer, who suggests that a mass movement is created by the cooperation between the man of
words , the fanatic , and the man of actions (147). In fact, he points out that the three groups have the
same craving for something new and different that they believe can only be obtained through a
revolution. At the same time, Tony Kushner also offers his own belief on the topic through his play A
Bright Room Called Day by establishing a setting in Berlin, where people follow their own party in a
fight against the development of a Nazi government. Moreover, many characters in the play perform
somewhat similar roles to the three groups duties described by Hoffer. In fact, the characteristics of
Baz as an outsider and a man of words, Agnes as a fanatic who joins the party out of boredom, and
Zillah as a person of action who refuses to accept the Reagan government will be discussed in this
essay to identify the similarities and differences between the viewpoints of two authors about

Contagion Ethical Issues
In the infectious disease unit, the main focal point consisted of showing the audience how the spread
of a major virus may occur in population. In this case, we were presented with two movies: Contagion
and 28 Days Later. These movies both displayed an infectious disease, which is spread through
animals causing harm to people. A scenario that presented in Contagion seemed to be realistic
possibility because a simple transmission of disease from an animal can happen. If the virus is
unknown and no vaccine is available, it could certainly cause a lot of harm to a large population of
people. Likewise, another possibility was also presented in 28 Days Later, where the viewers see

The overall idea of testing on animals should be considered to be unethical. In terms of medical
research purposes, it is necessary to continue making progress in the medical field, especially in terms
of infectious diseases. The main ethical concern that receives the most criticism from activists and
animal welfare groups is the overall treatment of animals. As seen in the opening sequence of 28 days
later, the animal activists were trying to free the monkeys that were held in medical research lab.
According to Blakemore, In fact, animal research has contributed to 70 per cent of Nobel prizes for
physiology or medicine (Blakemore, 2008). One thing that cannot be denied is the usefulness of
animal testing in the medical field. The fact that is has made a substantial contribution in terms of
developing medicines that can be used in current times. The medical field seems that is always
expanding due to the increasing technology present in current times. However, it still appears that we
are not at that particular point in time, where animal testing can be completely phases out of medicine.
The main purpose of any medical researcher is to find a cure for genetic disorder or incurable
diseases. We need to evaluate all options in the medical field because these could help save a lot of
people s lives. Furthermore, researchers that are dedicated to their jobs are not attempting to harm the
animal in any manner. Taking that into account, the best idea would be to get their insight from animal
right organizations, so they promote a certified ethical practice of animals testing. Hence, it is a good
way to monitor the practices of animal testing in science testing labs. Throughout the process, the
animals that get tested on should be monitored health wise and retired at the end of the session of

Leaving The Eu Case Study
Introduction
On Thursday 23rd June, 2016, the UK held a vote on whether to leave or remain within the European

Whilst not being outside the EU does not mean that the UK will be excluded from the single market, it
would be within the UK s best interest to negotiate a favorable trade agreement. Exclusion will not be
a barrier to trade but rather an inconvenience, that if approached strategically could enable the UK to
broker a unilateral free trade policy that allow for speedier negotiations with other countries outside
the EU. Possible tariffs on exports to the EU could be a challenge however the upside is that there is

According to an government commissioned review conducted by industry chief Jürgen Maier, Brexit

Although not a direct involvement in the war, the United States decided to partake in the First World
War by supplying and rationing food to the allied forces, including Great Britain, France, Russia and

Towards his golden years, the writer rejected privileges and wealth and became a wandering ascetic.
At the height of his career, he encountered a midlife crisis which revolutionized his views towards life.
Tolstoy said that he considered ending his life since he no longer understood the meaning of it. He
wrote a publication in 1882 concerning his crisis in a short piece called A Confession, and published it
in 1884. The renowned writer was one of the critical thinkers to raise a question concerning the true
meaning of what is life before by any writer have done so. Science cannot help one in understanding
the genuine meaning of life. Having faith and trusting in God is the only thing that can enable humans
to escape the spector of meaninglessness. Faith in afterlife and God of theism establishes ground that
justice will ultimately be served. Having belief in God develops the assertion that all things happening
in ones life, good or bad happen for a reason. If one person be good, good things will happen to you,
and if one person be bad, bad things will happen to you. People who believe or have faith in God are
certain that judgement day will come and every person will receive the judgement he or she derserves.
Although it appears fairness will not be attained now,

The School Of Residential Schools
This text in relation to my own life has many comparing and contrasting ideas and opinions written
throughout the stories and testimonies of the students of residential schools. First off, this text does
have components that relate to me personally in regards to the ideals put forth by the staff at
residential schools and attempt to convert the students to Christianity. I have been raised in a Christian
home and brought up under Christian ways of acting and thinking in my everyday life. The attempt
that the White people in the residential schools took to convert the Native children does not relate to
me, however after the conversion was completed and the lives of those children changed to
Christianity, I can relate to those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We were always hungry (Miller, pg. 290), is another concise indication that students were mistreated
and unimportant in the schools. Many issues surrounding providing food to the students as I ve
previously mentioned is wrong, however one idea that in my own opinion is very unfair to the
students is when the missionaries provid[ed] themselves with separate eating facilities and food
superior to that served to the children (Miller, pg. 292), simply to make it aware that they were of
more importance than the children within the school. Although the residential schools provided a
home for children whose families could not properly provide for them, the ideals and practices behind
the residential schools is not how a human being should be treated or nurtured, making the schools
very unfit for children to attend. My opinions of residential schools before reading this article were
similar to the information provided; mistreatment, poor quality health care and food, trying to change
their religion and culture, etc. However, the article failed to change my opinion of residential schools
and instead heightened my idea that residential schools should have never existed. For example,
students were sent to these schools to be provided with the necessary means to live a dignified life and

Totalitarianism is a form of government in which the government has total control over the people
while the people have no individual rights.China s government exemplifies a totalitarian government
because of multiple reasons. These include that China today has controlled speech and press by
blocking and controlling all news media, art, and literature. China has also used fear to control people
by having secret police that support the government and are not protectors of the people. Propaganda
is also used to persuade people in order to gain pride in their nation and the greatness of it with biased

Analysis Of The Movie Grease
Grease: The Journey of Adolescence.
The movie Grease is about seniors at Rydell High School who are trying to find who they want to be
while not giving up the identity they have already formed. Finding love while trying not to look weak
for having emotions. Sandy, played by Olivia Newton John, is a teen who moved to Rydell after
having a romantic summer fling with a boy named Danny, played by John Travolta. When she arrived
at Rydell, Sandy found that Danny attended the school as well but acted nothing like the boy she met
on summer break. Sandy is faced with identity vs. role confusion, self esteem issues, and developing
sexual maturity while she decides whether she wants to fit in with the tough Pink Ladies and win

Sandy walked out of the bathroom while Rizzo and the other Pink Ladies were wearing wigs, singing
Sandra dee and making fun of her. They hurt Sandy s feelings and she realized she wasn t fitting in
with her friends. After some back and forth problems, Sandy and Danny finally dated, but at the
school dance, Sandy got another blow to her self esteem. She and Danny were having a great time
dancing, they were even the stars of the dance, when Danny s ex girlfriend Cha Cha slid in and moved
Sandy out of the way. Cha Cha was beautiful, dressed provocatively and was a great dancer. Instead of
following Sandy, Danny continued to dance with Cha Cha and they won the dance contest. Since they
won the dance contest, they had to slow dance together. Sandy stormed out of the dance angry, hurt
and jealous of Cha Cha. The entire time Sandy was dealing with her self esteem issues, she was also
trying to decide who she wanted to be. She faced what Erik Erikson called identity vs role confusion.
Identity versus role confusion is the psychosocial conflict in which adolescents must form a coherent
self definition or remain confused about their life directions (Sigelman Rider, 2015). Sandy knew she
was an innocent person with good morals and she didn t get into trouble, but

Bedouin The Power Of Words
As a muslim Eaton s historical account of islam was inspiring and informative . In his writing Eaton
states to the Bedouin the word was as powerful as the sword (Eaton 98) I found this interesting as in
history do you mean historically or traditionally? If so there are problems. Remember, it only takes a

Considering this, it makes the fact that the Quran was revealed to prophet Muhammed verbally even

Women and New Deal Programs Essay
Black Tuesday is cited to be the day that the Stock Market Crashed on October 19, 1929, and it is
believed to have been the beginning of the Great Depression (Schultz). This led to many catastrophes
in the United States economic system that lasted ten years, from 1929 1939 (Schultz). During this time
period consumer spending declined, unemployment increased, and a severe drought throughout the
U.S led to a reduction in agricultural labor, which resulted in even more unemployment (Schultz).
Nevertheless, out of this crisis President Roosevelt created programs, throughout his presidency, in
hopes of bettering the United States economy. These programs would eventually be called the New

Nevertheless, with the help of Eleanor Roosevelt, women benefited with the increasing of
employment opportunities that were create with the New Deal and Second New Deal policies. Women
were employed on FERA, Federal Emergency Relief Administration projects, which were run by state
funds (Woolner). One of the agencies of this administration that was created through the New Deal
programs and directly assisted women was the Work Progress Administration. The WPA was created
in 1935 and hired single women, widows, or women with disabled or absent husbands (Kennedy 625).
While the WAP employed men in unskilled manual labor job, women were assigned sewing projects.
They were in charge of making clothing, blankets, and other necessities that were given to charities
and hospitals (Ware 43). Women were also hired in the school lunch programs created by the WPA
and in its Federal Art project, which gave 162 women a job painting murals and creating statues for
the newly built post office buildings and court houses (Ware 47). The New Deal policies, while their
main target was employing and benefitting the male population, with the help of Eleanor Roosevelt,
employment for women also increased and provided a foundation for Women s Rights Movement
(Woolner). Furthermore, before the New Deal and Second New Deal policies having women in
government agencies was rare. However, as mentioned above employment opportunities increased for

The Theme Of Escapism In The Swing By Robert Louis Frost
The poem presents to us the theme of escapism, as the child pictured in the poem escapes the harsh
adult world by swinging on the swing, and imagining herself/ himself in the sky. The last line of the
poem proves to us that what the author wrote as down is actually the adult world and the harsh reality
we live in Up in the air and down! This poem encourages readers; it is telling them that you don t need
feathers to fly. All you need to have is imagination to achieve the goal your mind wants. Even though
the poem is about the simplicity of child s mind, it teaches us something. It teaches us how to use and
adorn our imaginative world. It is important for us to have imaginative power as it is necessary in this
busy world. Sometimes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Frost uses a lot of imagery, for example in Shattering and avalanching . The writer tends to use a
number of extended metaphors, for example in Soon the sun s warmth makes them shed crystal shells
Shattering and avalanching on the snow crust he then turns the metaphor into an extended metaphor
by adding a new metaphor Such heaps of broken glass to sweep away . The swing doesn t use as many
literary devices. The poem s main theme is obviously escapism. That is why it is similar to Robert
Louis Stevenson s poem The Swing . The boy in Frost s poem is symbolic to the character, as it is
something that the man likes to imagine during his tough days or to escape from reality. Frost, just like
Stevenson, highlights the importance of imagination in our lives, and how it can help us during hard
times. The word Swing is not only the swinging of birches, or swinging up and down, it is a swing
from the reality towards imagination, towards heaven, away from the

The Mortality Trend Of Breast Cancer
Each person knows about Breast cancer these days, due to the fact that humankind witnesses countless
organizations working for this sole purpose diligently every day. Periodically we meet or hear
individuals struggling with this devastating category of cancer which is particularly prevalent in
women. According to the recent facts and figures from American Cancer Society about the number of
deaths from breast cancer in US in 2013, among all ages, has gone up to 39,620. This portrays a
massive number, nevertheless analyzing the mortality trend from 1990 2010, one can grasp the death
rate has been decreased to 34%. Consequently, the known reason behind this decline is attributable to
the improvements in our health care system in terms of treatment, in conjunction with the early
detection of breast cancer. Discussing about the risks of having breast cancer, we all know that there
are certain factors which can t be modified that comprise sex, family history, age, early menarche, and

Blood Lead Testing History
Renovate right brochure link

Where it all began
The Greeks and Romans were the first to use it. It was considered a luxury good in the American
Colonies. The White House was even painted with it. Lead based paint was a hot item. It was durable,
flexible and weather resistant. The use of white lead pigment peaked in 1922. While the primary
public health concerns were things like tuberculosis and Spanish influenza, the extremely washable
lead based paint seemed like a great alternative to germ harboring wallpaper. Continuing into the
1950s, the U.S. government overwhelmingly recommended the use of lead based paints.

The test took two days just to analyze a sample. This made the test unsuitable for larger scale testing
in communities. The technology that enabled community wide screenings for blood lead levels
became available in the mid 1960s. This allowed health officials to depart from relying on painfully
obvious symptoms such as pale skin, slurred speech, loss of appetite and cognitive deficits.
The first ban on lead paint
The first restriction on the use of lead paint in the U.S. came about in 1951 when the Baltimore Public
Health Department issued a ban on its use as interior paint. Since then, the restrictions on the use of
lead paint have come a long way. In 1978, paint containing more than .06% lead (in the dry product)
was banned for residential use in the United States.
Why so much focus on children?
If you look through the federal rules concerning lead paint, you will see that the lion s share of
defining standards are all about buildings inhabited by children. Aside from the obvious need to
protect our children, this is because children are more susceptible to the effects of lead poisoning. For
example, a child s cerebral membrane is still largely permeable until the age of

Persuasive Essay On Society Hacking
Have you ever had your phone or computer hacked before? I know I have, and many times it happens
without me even realizing it. In today s society hacking has become so easy that even the most
inexperienced hackers can manage to steal your private data. This is one of my main reasons for not
supporting electronic voting machines (EVMs). I feel that in addition to the security and integrity of
the vote it also saves states on the hefty costs to obtain and routinely maintenance these machines.
EVMs also may sound good to the new generation of Iphone and Android cell phone users, but for the
older generations this technology may be extremely confusing. Paper ballots have been the method of
voting for many years and have not caused so much conflict, why try to change a system that s
effective?
I recall vivdly one of the first times I had my computer hacked, from one moment to the next it was
like my computer had a mind of it s own. Links, buttons and keys were pressed that I wasn t doing and
all the while there was a hacker somewhere trying to steal my private information. In today s society
hacking has truly evolved from these types of attacks and have made cyber security even more
important. Just this year 1 of the 3 major credit buerau s was hacked and millions of confidential data
was compromised. Just imagine how dangerous it could be to have your private voting information
exposed. I recall during a recent election one of the candidates comments about the polls being

As for Hamlet, I note in passing the well known fragments of evidence which indicate the existence of
a Hamlet tragedy before the publication of Shakespeare s Second Quarto in 1604.
These are, counting backwards a phrase in Dekker s Satiromastix, 1602, My name s Hamlet: Revenge!

The earliest reference seems to be in Nash s Epistle prefixed to
Greene s Menaphon: it is dated 1589, but was perhaps printed in

Survey of Art History II
Man Ray like many other artists did not care to have his personal life shown in his art. He wanted to
be viewed and recognized for his work which included sculptures, paintings, and photography. Man
Ray was mostly influenced by Stieglitz s photographs. Man Ray used a similar style to Stieglitz. He
captured images that created an unvarnished look at the photos subject. Man Ray discovered a new
way to create his photos; by accident in his work room he discovered how to manipulate objects in his
photos on pieces of photosensitive paper. In the year 1914, at a seminal exhibition, Man Ray
introduced himself to African art. Man Ray did this at the Alfred Stieglitz 291 Gallery. Man Ray s
photograph Noire et Blanche became an icon for modern photography. Although this was his most
famous and widely known piece, Man Ray s less known work made a greater impact and influence on
African art. Photographs with African art pieces began to flourish greatly after Man Ray s break
through with his Noire et Blanche photograph. These photographs shed light on many day to day
issues such as: issues of race, identity, sex, separatism, and disenfranchisement. Noire et Blanche
shows Kiki Man Ray s companion with her eyes closed and her head sideways on a table in a very
relaxed manner. With her left hand, Kiki is holding, an African mask known as a Baule Gba Gba
mask. The mask is held straight above the table and right up next to her face. In this time, it was

  • 2. Issues In Rwanda Genocide The absence within the literature of the central pillars and their composed themes creates problems when trying to address current and future contention between the international community and Rwanda. By relying largely on the genocide guilt card, issues important to Rwanda are sometimes either overlooked or plainly forgotten. The result is miscommunication and misunderstandings that complicate a delicate situation. For example is the previously mentioned debate on term limits for President Kagame. Despite the thesis not discussing the third term debate except for the mention in Chapter Two, it is an important event that will help continue the trend of how Rwanda views the actions and decisions by international actors. The debate on whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The issue of abandonment will be brought to the forefront but not in terms of the genocide guilt card. Rwandan officials will believe that the same states that abandoned Rwanda before and during the genocide have little ability to criticise the continuation of the only person who did not leave the country during its darkest periods. President Kagame as leader of the RPF led the campaign to put an end to the massacres in response to international abandonment of the genocide. This might be easily misinterpreted as Rwanda promoting genocide guilt to deflect criticism of electing Kagame for more terms than the current Constitution allows. But at the heart of the issue is the distrust of the international community. They rather listen to and trust Kagame who did not abandon the country rather than the countries that did. How he ended the genocide and led the nation into wars with the DRC is met with the other two themes. Unlike the international community, which seems to disappoint Rwanda by not properly combating the FDLR , Kagame is credited for promoting the security of Rwandans by fighting the FDLR and other extremist groups bent on harming Rwanda. These military campaigns are all through a central belief that Rwanda needs to be self reliant for its own protection and development. Since the 2012 M23 allegations and aid withdrawal by donors, Rwandans are increasingly accepting President Kagame s call for self reliance. As discussed in Chapter Six, his rhetoric campaigns against foreign aid, Kagame continues to instruct Rwandans to trust that economic development has to come from within Rwanda rather than continual acceptance of foreign aid. Ronal Nkusi commented how the reduction of aid went beyond just the realm of rhetoric to include it as a belief to be held by all government officials. This sense ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Web-Based Education However, there are a few issues to be dealt with if web based learning is fully implemented in educational institutions. Firstly, change in learning theories and approaches may lead to confusion or difficulties among teachers and students (Web based Learning: Good or Bad?). As discussed earlier, in web based learning approach, teachers are facilitators and motivators. It is up to the students in carrying out the activities planned by the teachers creatively and constructs their knowledge about the lesson by themselves with guide from the teachers. Therefore, some of the students might feel lost especially during the early stages of implementation of this approach as they are used to be spoon fed and depend solely on the teachers to give ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... V. Pawar, of Department of Computer Science,North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon, India, in his research paper titled Web Based School Education In India: Problems, Considerations, Approaches Important Features Of Web Based Learning Environment claimed that limited bandwidth of Internet connection gives slower performance for sound, video and intensive graphics, causing long waits for downloads that can affect the ease of the learning process . Therefore, implementation of web based learning in educational institutions might be quite difficult due to issues such as change in learning approach leads to confusion and difficulties for teachers and students, and the problem of computer illiteracy and connection and bandwidth issues. All in all, web based learning leads to some changes in teachers and students role in learning processes, and it also comes with some prospects and issues in implementing the approach in educational institutions. However, if it is to be viewed from the perspective of education in Malaysia, we are moving towards the implementation of this innovative approach. • 4. The Harlem Renaissance The Harlem Renaissance writers were able to speak out for African Americans and present to the world their own culture into American life. This movement allowed African Americans to share their talents and abilities with the rest of the society and they did not have to feel the least bit ashamed about it. Through having the chance to share their work, these writers spread across America the new negro ; an individual who has the power to express, share, and present to the world their own uniqueness of culture (Locke, 985). Although the Harlem Renaissance made a huge impact on repairing the psychology of the negro , Langston Hughes contributed a great deal to this movement of change as well. In his essay, The Negro Artist and The Racial Mountain, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his essay, Blueprint for Negro Writing, Richard Wright rejects the Renaissance at which he brings forward several reasons as to why. To begin, he discusses the role of the negro writing and how the negro writer does not write to the black audience, but to the whites and through doing so, the negro writer treats themselves worse than others. In the text, he writes: Rarely was the best of this writing addressed to the Negro himself, his needs, his sufferings, his aspirations. Through misdirection, Negro writers have been far better to others than they have been to themselves (Wright, 1403). In his work, he questions the power of the Negro writers and the path that they are taking. Initially, the negro writers are not focusing on their own lives, their experiences and condition (Wright, 1403). Another issue that Wright brings forward in his essay is that Negro writing has been addressed in the main to a small white audience rather than to a Negro one, it should be stated that no attempt is being made here to propagate a specious and blatant nationalism (Wright, 1405). Essentially, what Wright is addressing is that writers are more focused on the white audience rather than the black audience and he states that a gap continues to widen between them and their people (Wright, 1404). Another point that Wright makes is that Negros should accept the nationalist implications of their lives, not in order to encourage them, but in order to change and transcend them (Wright, 1406). In response to this, Wright says that Negro writers should be focusing on the hardships of their lives, and the fact that their life is not easy (Wright, 1406). The only way to bring change is to accept the fact that this is the reality. In his work, he continues to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction Amongst the dogmatic religious past, which when confronted by the enlightened present became more rigid in its practice and conformity, and enduringly factual and empirical science lived a man called William Wordsworth, so sentimental and philosophic that even greater minds couldn t solve completely the cipher that his word created, or rather couldn t completely understand the legacy that he left for the modern era. After a few attempts to get the youngsters attention, they scurry over and everyone gather with their families, and Mr. Summers comes to the center with the black box in hand. There are many characters in The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, such as Mr. Graves, The children, Tessie Hutchinson, Mr. Summers. Etc. But one of the ones that really stuck out is Mr. Summers. He is the only character that the narrator goes into detail about; even if it s not the typical description. He is described as round faced jovial man who has time and energy. That description consequently makes him a round character, everyone else is really flat cause not much description was given for them. He is also static, because he seems to stay the same, and to me he seems bored due to his tone in the beginning and the end. Mr. Summers is the antagonist, so is everyone else in the village which includes Tessie who was stoned to death. I say this because everyone is condoning such acts of evil, and Tessie didn t say anything till it was her facing evil, even though she too has stoned someone in the past. Characterization is given indirectly, because the reader doesn t even get a sense of who Mr. Summers or any of the other characters really are until the end. • 13. Jeep Research Paper Personal Question Why do I keep my Jeep when it keeps breaking down on me? That is the question that I have asked myself multiple times over the summer. To this day, I have put more time, effort and money into my Jeep than it is actually worth. So why continue to restore this beautifully ancient beast? Well, the answer is actually very simple; I love working on it. When I was first told that I was getting an automobile, I expected to go out and hand pick one that I deemed suitable for my everyday tasks. To my surprise, my father pretty much narrowed the selection process down for me, providing me with a specific list of Craigslist adds that he had compiled during his work day. After browsing this selection, I had settled on a 1987 light blue Jeep Wrangler, with a soft top and a sport roll cage. This jeep came with the legendary fuel injected 4.0 Liter, 6 cylinder engine, aptly nicknamed the Tank , due to its sturdy construction of cast iron. The fact that we found this jeep for under five thousand dollars was astonishing to me, so I immediately jumped on the opportunity presented to me. • 14. Mass Movement In Eric Kushner s A Bright Room Called Day Nowadays, mass movement is defined as an assimilation process, where people throw away their own personal identities and follow submissively the orders of their leaders. The idea of people being obedient to some of the cruelest orders, such as killing millions of people in the Holocaust, surprises many people. Thus, many authors decide to find out the answer by bringing up many opinions about the creation of the mass movement in their own books or plays for discussion. One of those authors is Eric Hoffer, who suggests that a mass movement is created by the cooperation between the man of words , the fanatic , and the man of actions (147). In fact, he points out that the three groups have the same craving for something new and different that they believe can only be obtained through a revolution. At the same time, Tony Kushner also offers his own belief on the topic through his play A Bright Room Called Day by establishing a setting in Berlin, where people follow their own party in a fight against the development of a Nazi government. Moreover, many characters in the play perform somewhat similar roles to the three groups duties described by Hoffer. In fact, the characteristics of Baz as an outsider and a man of words, Agnes as a fanatic who joins the party out of boredom, and Zillah as a person of action who refuses to accept the Reagan government will be discussed in this essay to identify the similarities and differences between the viewpoints of two authors about ... A scenario that presented in Contagion seemed to be realistic possibility because a simple transmission of disease from an animal can happen. The overall idea of testing on animals should be considered to be unethical. In terms of medical research purposes, it is necessary to continue making progress in the medical field, especially in terms of infectious diseases. The main ethical concern that receives the most criticism from activists and animal welfare groups is the overall treatment of animals. As seen in the opening sequence of 28 days later, the animal activists were trying to free the monkeys that were held in medical research lab. According to Blakemore, In fact, animal research has contributed to 70 per cent of Nobel prizes for physiology or medicine (Blakemore, 2008). The medical field seems that is always expanding due to the increasing technology present in current times. However, it still appears that we are not at that particular point in time, where animal testing can be completely phases out of medicine. The main purpose of any medical researcher is to find a cure for genetic disorder or incurable diseases. We need to evaluate all options in the medical field because these could help save a lot of people s lives. Furthermore, researchers that are dedicated to their jobs are not attempting to harm the animal in any manner.
