Levi s Case Analysis

ARTI MUNSHI
Levi s Not by Jeans Alone
With other companies starting to encroach upon the Jeans market share, Levi s decided to introduce
a new product. With the goal to gain profits, Levi s pursued diversification with the new product.
This product was formal clothing for men.
Levi s divided the consumers into five segments based on demographics, attitudes and beliefs. Q2
and Q1 appeared to be desirable target segments, however, Levi s decided to focus on the Q2
consumers, the classic independent males. These consumers were well dressed, cared about their
appearance, shopped alone and mostly at specialty stores. They weren t price sensitive and
preferred wool/wool blends in conservative colors.

Levi s decided to place their product in department stores as they had good relations with the
retailers due to their volume sales of jeans. They did not have any real relationship with the
specialty stores where the independent male shopped. Rather than placing their new products
which would be considered as high end in these specialty stores and where they would be among
the lower price range, they chose to place their products in the department stores where their
products showed a deviation from the regular Levi formula and were considered very pricy as
compared to other high end department store brands such as Haggar s. This price raised some
concerns among the retailers as they were unsure if Levi s formal wear would move out of the
stores at a required pace. Also, due to price quality inference, if Levi s was placed in a specialty
store, the Q2 customer might prefer to buy a more expensive product. Levi tried to sell these
formal clothes in the same stores as their casual clothes for the same segment of customers.
Customers saw these formal clothes at the same place priced higher than the casuals, and therefore
found them to be expensive.
Due to the above reasons and lack of promotion, Levi s achieved only 65% of their sales target.
They promoted the wrong product under their brand, for the wrong price at the wrong place. They
failed to understand the needs of their customers.
Levi s would have been able to avoid these mishaps if they changed their target

La Sylphie And Giselle Research Paper
La Sylphide and Giselle, romantic ballets written in the Romantic era of the 19th century,
revolutionized ballet by introducing the spirituality of Romantic poetry and literature to the world
of dance. These ballets were brought to life through the tip of Marie Talioni s toes, an Italian
French ballerina who is known for her graceful, almost evanescent dancing. La Sylphide and Giselle
played an important role in creating a fundamental change in balletthrough its portrayal of
supernaturalism.
Isaiah Berlin, a philosopher widely considered to be the dominant British scholar in the 20th
century, said Romanticism personified:
A new and restless spirit, seeking violently to burst through old and cramping forms, and nervous

It brought a new poetry to the dance and created a greater illusion as if they were floating across
the stage like mystical creatures. Pointe work was compulsory for the interpretation of a wili
and sylph as it was seen to be the most transcendent example in these acts of romantic mystery
(Guest, The Romantic Ballet in Paris, 18). Marie Taglioni as the role of Giselle, was able to
achieve grace and spiritually of movement. Her attention was given to the minutest details. This
marked her as one of the greatest leading Giselle s of her time. She seemed to float and bound
like a sylph across the stage, never executing those tours de force that we know to be difficult
and wish were impossible, being always performed at the expense of decorum and grace (Guest,
The Romantic Ballet in Paris, 104). During this era, tricks and so called tours de force were not
something that was prominent or important to the appeal of the choreographers. The true
distinction during the Romantic period was the story line about love, madness, good vs. evil, and
the supernatural. The Romantic Era shifts away from the early 18th century style and move away
from the rational. This is an era of elusive dreams and life beyond death; an area that cultivates
audience to feel and not to

Descriptive Essay On Campus
Iowa State University offers a large campus. The campus itself entirely is around the size of my
hometown. I have lived on campus for a few weeks now, and I know most of the campus, yet
spend most of my time in my dorm. Whenever I am not in my dorm or in class though, I often
find myself wandering around campus. When wandering around campus I usually look for the
best spots for me just in case I want to sit around and relax. Of my favorite spots to visit, they are
closer and very appealing to see. They however are also very popular places to visit, so many
students visit them. What I mean by closer, is that these places are not too far away from my
dorm on campus. I live in the Wilson Hall dormitory, known as one of the Towers, and it is quite
far from the main campus. Seeing as I walk everyday to and from the main campus to and from
my dorm, I tend to walk the same route, as to shorten the walk time it takes and be familiar with
the area. On days I walk to my favorite spot, which is the second concrete benchnext to the
Campanile, and I just sit there for hours and relax. Wilson Hall s dining hall is called Storms,
and is located maybe 80 100 yards North of Wilson. As I leave through the North East exit of
Wilson Hall, I cross the diagonal sidewalk running from Wilson to Storm s East Entrance/Exit. I
tend to eat supper at Storms, and as I exit through the same entrance, I leave and grab an apple to
eat along the way heading to the Campanile. I walk up Welch Street,

Food Deserts
Essay Two: Americans and Food We all have heard the old English proverb An apple a day will
keep the doctor away . Applied in a more general or wide perspective it means that eating
nutritious foods will make you healthier. This is one reason why it is so sad that more than 23
million Americans, including 6.5 million children, live in low income urban neighborhoods that
are more than a mile away from a supermarket or in urban areas that are more than ten miles in

Natural Disaster In Bangladesh
1.Introduction
The number of natural disaster is increasing over the years and its impact to the economy and
environment has increased remarkably. Flood disaster is a major threat to the environment and is
responsible for the economic loss worldwide. Flood frequency, magnitude, extent and cost is
accelerating quickly all over the world (Adjei darko, 2017). A single major floodevent can affect
several countries simultaneously and can pressure on risk reduction and transfer (Jongman et
al., 2014). According to the outcome of Aqueduct Global Flood Risk Analyzer launched by the
US based World Resource Institute (WRI), flooding affects 21 million people annually and it
could rise to 54 million by 2030 and the GDP loss is 96 billion $ in each year and it could be 521
billion $ by 2030 (Dutch water sector, 2005). Different sectors of Bangladesh also suffer a huge
amount of loss due to regular flood inundation that impacts on countries budget through the
disruption of economic activity (Hussain Shan, 2010; JГјssi, 2015). In Bangladesh, about 3.5
million people are annually affected by the flood and it can rise to 9.8 million per year by 2030.
Annual GDP loss is 5.5 billion $ and by 2030 it can rise 45.8 billion $ (WRI, 2017). Economic
disruption may rise more than 1 trillion $ annually and flood frequency may be double because of
adverse climate and socio economic development by 2050 (Jongman et al., 2014). More than 8
million people affected by flood in 2017 which caused death

Housing Market Drives out of Economic Recession
When researching past economic recoveries, the housing market is the one to drive the economy
out of recession. That being said, this economic recession hasn t had much of an impact until
recently. America s housing boom had a tremendous influence on the economy for its low prices
and flow of new home construction.
The new construction market in the mid 2000 s was flourishing. People saw building a home as
an opportunity for a solid investment because prices and rates were so low that certain homes
could depreciate extremely slowly. However, there would be a negative effect from all this low
cost new construction and few were aware of just how devastating it would be to the new
construction market.
In 2005, the market was flooded with a vast array of homes that were all selling at a low price,
and this allowed people to buy and sell homes with minimal effort. Banks were being reckless with
their lending, not giving enough attention to who they were giving mortgages to, as virtually
anybody with a decent credit score could go to a bank and get a mortgage, sometimes without even
going to see if the land and ability for development was there. This created a housing bubble in
2006, and would inevitably come back to hurt a wide range of industries, but few were as damaged
as the new construction industry.
Once things started to get bad, they got really bad for a lot of families who were given mortgages,
who were not properly qualified. There was a major spike in defaults, with

Hellenistic Monks
A monastic community is a place where women or men live out vows of obedience, poverty, and
chastity. The monks of Norcia are an international community with a median age of 36. This
brotherhood unites them to one to another by their common search for God. The three
characteristics of a monastery are prayer, observance, and liturgical life.
Described by the Rule of St. Benedict, the full Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours) marks hours
of the day dedicated to the prayer life of the monks. Additional prayers such as the Jesus Prayer, the
Rosary, Eucharistic Adoration, and Lectio Divina Prayers add to the daily round of Mass and
Offices as spiritual nourishment. Aspects of observance are St. Benedict s fast, chanting of the
Office, the observance of silence, and abstinence from meat. Monks foster the reconciliation in the
heart of the Church through the careful celebration of the liturgy. The liturgy is the public prayer of
the Church that celebrates what God has done for them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Benedict said, Keep death daily before your eyes. St. Benedict s saying refers to more than
physical death, but also death to self. A monk is called to this daily, such as leaving family,
friends, and home. Through prayer and daily conversion, the monks die to self and remain hidden
or forgotten. They observe the many rules of Saint Benedict s outline for monastic life,
dependability to prayer, vigil, and fasting. The beauty of the Church s liturgical tradition
communicates the peace of Christ to the rest of world.
The Rule of Saint Benedict is a book of precepts written by Benedict of Nursia for monks living
under an abbot. It is summed up in the motto of the Benedictine Confederation: ora et labora,
which means pray and work. This rule has been used by Benedictines for fifteen centuries. The
model for the monastic life is based on a family, with the abbot as father and all monks as

What Role Does The Bensalemites Play In Our Society
The almost too perfect society of the Bensalemites is one that other societies should learn from
indeed. They are united in that they are all working towards the greater good of humankind. There
is a pleasant absence of conflict between the Bensalem government and people which can be
attributed to the fact that politics does not play any role. The importance placed on religionalso
strengthens the bond and support between them. Within this society is a detailed and thoughtfully
structured system in which the members of the House of Salomon put great effort towards the
betterment of the world as they know it. This devotion for truth and good nature stems from the
love the inhabitants received years before from the original King Salomona. This King Salomona
also put in place the system of constantly pursuing knowledge that the Bensalemites continued to
follow. The combination of all of these things is what makes Bensalem such an advanced
community full of wisdom and scientific knowledge.
The scientists of Salomon s House have undertaken numerous projects. They utilize a variety of
manmade and natural resources to strengthen and better the current and future Bensalem
community. Caves are used for the treatment of bodies including hardening, refrigeration, and ...

Two Generations Research Paper
This generation, millennials, has a vastly different way of making it in the world than that of
people from two generations ago. I interviewed my maternal grandmother for this assignment.
We were raised relatively close to the same place, but in majorly different times. Blue Ridge,
Georgia is only 7.5 miles from Cherry Log, Georgia. Quite a few of our answers matched, and I
believe that s because my mother raised me and my two sisters the same way my grandmother
raised her which was influenced by her upbringing. In addition to that, I spent a copious amount

Together with many wild animals of the world today, the Amur leopard is facing the likelihood of
extinction. Their threat is not by means of natural selection or a changing world but by man who
has deliberately or unknowingly depleted their habitat and community. Only mans intervention and
realization of the problem can hope to save these animals (Garman 1996). According to
Kutscherenko (1995) the wild population of the Amur leopardhas dwindled to an estimated 120 to
140 leopards, 30 of which were counted in Russia.

A fully grown male Amur leopard may weigh as much as 100 to 200 pounds with the females
weighing in at approximately 70 to 80 pounds. Leopards from cold mountain regions tend to be
larger than average to accommodate harsh conditions (Vandermey 1996). An average adult
leopard can reach an outstanding 8 feet from head to the tip of the tail. The combined head and
body length can vary from 3 to 6 feet; with the tail averaging 23 to 44 inches. Standing, from feet
to shoulder they can reach a height of 18 to 32 inches, again with the females being a third the
size of the males (Anonymous B 1996). Once thought to be a black panther, some leopards are
black all over. Borne from the same litter as normal leopards the black color is a result of an
recessive gene which seems to appear more often with leopards living in deep forest and mountain
regions. These black leopards still possess the black rosette patterns only they are more difficult to

A Long Way Gone
Emily Bronte and Paul Dunbar
Have you ever had that feeling of wanting to free yourself from something, breaking the wall that
holds you back, cutting the string that won t let you go on and be free? Emily Bronte in her poem
The Caged Bird and Sympathy by Paul Dunbar portray their feelings in their lyric poems. Bronte
was born in 1818 in Yorkshire, England. She lived during the end of the romantic period, which
made a huge impact on her writings. Romanticism was an artistic and intellectual movement
originating in Europe in the late 1700s and characterized by a heightened interest in nature,
emphasis on the individual s expression of emotion and imagination... ... Show more content on

The first element our writers used to express their message of wanting to be free is form. The
narrator for The Caged Bird feels alone and wishes to be able to snatch the chains that keep her
tied down. Also, in the poem Sympathy by Dunbar as well an in The Caged Bird both authors
used a bird to symbolize the captivity and aspiration for freedom. Both poets wrote their piece in
lyric form because of obvious reasons. A lyric poem is defined as a poem that expresses personal
and emotional feelings. Writing poems with this form shows the amount of deep emotion that the
narrator feels toward this work. In addition, both authors wrote their poems in iambic pentameter
to make the poem sound like a natural flow of speech to really show the deep feelings the poets are
feeling.
Using elements of language such as imagery and alliteration to give her readers a visual of what
she is feeling and the oppression she is going through. In line 6 of Bronte s poem, she describes
the world as Earth s breezy hills and heaven s blue sea , using adjectives to arouse and grasp her
feeling of being free in nature. After this she starts to use words, which represents captivity such as
chain and alone. She says, Could my hand unlock the chain/ how gladly I would watch it

Civil War Rape Essay
The conditions and goals of war often facilitate and, in some cases, necessitates the conditions for
rape. The conditions of rape are often indistinguishable from those of war because rape is used as
an expression of victory, retaliation against other countries or ethnic groups and as a means to
satisfy weary troops. Before beginning, it is essential to establish what the main goals of wars are;
under the conditions that rapeis condoned. In some instances war is waged as a method of
retaliation; such as the Soviet counterattack after the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union; war can
be used as an expression of victory or superiority in the case of Nazi Germany and its ideals of a

The fact remains that this is a product of misogyny in their cultures we still see in contemporary
society. Due to this, women are viewed as the paragons and upholders of their societies virtues, as
biological reproducers of national and ethnic groups, agents for transmitting national culture and
ideology, cultural symbols of purity and national housekeepers. This is in stark contrast to men who
are illustrated as protectors of their nation s honour and as warriors; in retrospect, war is waged to
humiliate and, in some cases, destroy the foundation of the opposing nation s society. Men, the
primary defenders of their nation in hindsight are expendable, while they may die, their culture and
society will live on through their women who will go on to transmit their genes and culture through
the children they bear. Because women represent the three pillars of the home and not one; it is
more efficient to target women, not only to demoralise the opposing enemy troops, but to
consequently change the genetic make up and otherwise culture of the society the women live in.
This act of humiliation not only scars the women and emasculates the men, but their society as a
whole. Hence, targeting women through rape, although grotesquely immoral highlights the
effectiveness of rape as a method in which to carry out wars closely affiliated with

The Performance Of The Symphony
I have never had the chance to sit and watch a symphony before. I have heard them in plays and
other performances, but they have never been the main production in something I have seen. It was
very interesting to see the structure behind the sound. The amount of people and different
instruments all together making a cohesive piece of musicwas absolutely incredible. There appeared
to be well over 50 musicians working together to produce different sounds that fit together so
tenaciously. Among the instruments involved in the orchestra, I noticed cellos, flutes, clarinets,
cymbals, tambourines, trumpets, violins, trombones, tubas, french horns, and even a few
instruments that I could not recognize. The diversity in the instruments created a strong yet
effortless feeling in the listener. The music flowed so well that it seemed simple and easy, yet when
I looked into the orchestra and saw how many components go into the composition, it is clear that it
is quite intricate. The symphony was set in a beautiful concert venue, the Boston Symphony Hall.
The high ceilings were dripping with elaborate chandeliers, creating beautiful lighting for the on
stage performers. The chairs of the instrumentalists were turned in a way so that all the
performers could be viewed by the audience, and the conductors back was turned so he could

Bourdieu Cultural Capital Essay
Citizenship confers on an individual an ability to participate in democracy such as decision
making and inclusion in policy making processes, (Michels, 2011). Citizenship gives one
participatory power; in the decision making process of their country of origin, in the same way
citizenship can be a form of capital to an individual. Citizenship constitutes a strategically
constructed form of capital which manifests in formal (legal and institutional) and informal
(practiced and cultural) forms (Bauder H., 2008:315). People who possess a certain form of
capital are able to distinguish themselves from others who lack that form of capital (Bauder,
2008:318). Such distinctions can increase gaps in social classorders and increase feelings of relative
deprivation between migrant families and non migrant families (de Haas, 2010).Capital forms the

Bourdieu s concept of cultural capital relates to the symbolic characteristics namely skills, tastes
and preferences, mannerisms, material goods, credentials etc. that a person gains by virtue of
his or her membership of a particular social class. Bourdieu emphasizes on the importance of
cultural capital as a major source of social inequality. Rooted in the Bourdieu concept of cultural
capital is the aspect of social environment which he called the habitus . According to him, one s
habitus will allow or not allow him or her to progress in life (Bourdieu, 1986). As regards this
concept of habitus, it can be said that one s social identity/nationality may or may not offer him or

Strength of Materials 4th Ed. by Ferdinand L. Singer
Simple Stresses
Simple stresses are expressed as the ratio of the applied force divided by the resisting area or Пѓ =
Force / Area. It is the expression of force per unit area to structural members that are subjected to
external forces and/or induced forces. Stress is the lead to accurately describe and predict the
elastic deformation of a body. Simple stress can be classified as normal stress, shear stress, and
bearing stress. Normal stress develops when a force is applied perpendicular to the cross sectional
area of the material. If the force is going to pull the material, the stress is said to be tensile stress

Comparing Mistakes In The Stranger And The Invisible Man
When it comes to discovering a purpose in life, humans are able to do so by making and
occasionally learning from their mistakes. In both The Invisible Man and The Stranger, both of the
protagonists find the meaning of their own lives through a series of mistakes that lead them to a
view changing epiphany
There is a very popular saying in American culture that tells people to learn from their mistakes . In
the case of humans finding their identities and realizing what their purpose is, mistakes are a good
place to start looking. Evidence of this lies in The Stranger, where Meursault differed from
everyone around him by taking of interest in all in bettering his life. Throughout the entirety of
The Stranger, Meursault was given several opportunities to make a better life for himself, and
rejected all of them, and though he did not see said rejected as a mistake, it most assuredly was.
When his boss mentioned he was opening a business office in Paris and offered Meursault a job
there, Meursault denied the offer, stating that people never change their lives, that in any case one
life was as good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both Meursault from The Stranger and The Narrator from The Invisible Man made mistakes that
led them to to finding their life purposes, and people in real life often times find their purpose
through mistakes, as well. While their life purposes contradict each others rather strongly
Meursault feels that life has no purpose and doesn t do much for anyone but himself, while The
Narrator of The Invisible Man feels he has to do everything for everyone higher up than he both get
to these conclusions by committing some type of blunder. Humans cannot learn what to do if they
don t learn what not to do first, and they cannot truly appreciate success without experiencing
failure first. This is why human purpose can be found in the mistakes humans make on an almost

Return on equity is stable throughout the year as well. Both profit margin and basic earnings

continual decrease in Q3 and Q4. This is a result of a decrease in the average number of
common shares. The following table represents the debt ratios for ExxonMobil for FY 2011:

company maintaining its leverage. Interest coverage ratio shows a downward trend in Q2 and

These changes are not very significant to the success of the business as the company s ratio is
well above 1.5, which implies the company is not burdened by its debt expenses. Debt/Equity
ratio remained stable in all periods with a slight increase in Q4 as a result of increased liabilities.

Chlorofluorocarbons Affecting Canada s Ozone Layer
How do CFCs or chlorofluorocarbons affect Canada s Ozone layer. To answer this question we
first have to understand chlorofluorocarbons and the earth s ozone layer. Chlorofluorocarbons are
chemical compounds made up of three chlorine atoms. One fluorine atom and 1 carbon atom.
There were many uses for CFCs ranging from, being used as coolants in refrigerants to
propellants for aerosols to being used as solvents for dry cleaning. As CFCs are non flammable and
not very toxic we thought they were a revolutionary compound, but unfortunately CFCs were one of
the leading causes for the depletion of our ozonelayer. ozone is a type of oxygen, an ozone molecule
consists of three oxygen atoms whereas a regular oxygen molecule only consists of two.

Wave Surfing Research Paper
He enalu
The term He enalu translates to wave sliding. He e is the change from solid to liquid and Nalu
refers to the surfing motion of the wave. Surfing first originated in Western Polynesia over three
thousand years ago. In the beginning surfing was not an activity, but an easy way of getting around
in the water. The first surfers were fisherman who discovered riding waves as an efficient method of
getting to shore with their catch. It then transformed from becoming an everyday work method to
something to do to pass time. Surfing has come a long way, evolving from its origins into what it is
now.

Big Bang And The Creation Of Energy And Matter
Big Bang Theory:
Explain what occurred during the Big Bang, including the creation of energy and matter:
The universe was created by the Big Bang. Just before the Big Bang, the universe was just
unbelievably hot and at a very dense point, it burst to expand space faster than light which was at
10 34of a second. The universe doubled in size at least 90 times from the dense point. But the
speed of the space spreading became to change to a slower rate still continuing at this time and day.
As space, expanded universe cooled itself down and matter formed. Another second after the Big
Bang neutrons, protons, electron, anti electron, photons and neutrinos came into existence. Light

Cognitive Dissonance And Its Effects On Behavior
Cognitive Dissonance is refers to a situation involving conflicting attitudes, beliefs or behaviors.
This produces a feeling of discomfort leading to an alteration in one of the attitudes, beliefs or
behaviors to reduce the discomfort and restore balance etc. The research on cognitive dissonance
was done by Festinger and Carlsmith in 1959. It gives a background history of the time when
Cognitive Dissonancewas investigated by Leon Festinger. However, In the case being discussed in
this paper, participants are given a boring task to start with. After the experiment, participants are
paid different amounts to pursue other participates who are waiting to start with task. The
participants who are done with the task feel dissonance when they were asked to pursue someone
that the task was fun. There can many other ways and situations were one can experience
dissonance. Also in the discussion there is inclusion for how to reduce cognitive dissonance which
could help one to make better decisions. An obvious implication of cognitive dissonance theory is
that if one wants to change someone s attitude, one could try to create dissonance concerning that
person s attitude and hope that desired attitude change would result. However, there are other
implications of Cognitive Dissonance as well. Much of the research on dissonance has focused on
decision making, counter attitudinal advocacy, forced compliance, and selective exposure to
information.

Intellectual Property ( Ip ) Essay
Intellectual Property (IP) can be broadly described as using human intellect to create something
new or original, and it is collectively comprised of four categories: Trade secrets, trademarks,
copyrights, and patents. Intellectual property is a valuable asset that must be protected and
strategically managed. To fully foster innovation, intellectual propertyprotection is crucial. If
protection is lacking, than businesses and individual would not fully benefit from their inventions
and could possibly refrain from research and development. Intellectual property drives economic
growth and competitiveness. The direct and indirect economic impacts of innovation are
overwhelming, accounting for more than 40% of U.S. economic growth and employment (GIPC,
2015, para. 3). Intellectual property contributes tremendously to our national and state economies.
IP accounts for 74% of all US exports, which amounts to nearly $1 trillion. It is also important for
consumers. Solid IP rights assist consumers in making choices about the safety, effectiveness and
reliability in their purchases.
Many industries count on sufficient enforcement of their IP, by means of trade secrets, trademarks,
copyrights, and patents. According to the USPTO (2015) In the United States patents are available
to any person who invents or discovers any new and useful process, machine, manufacture, or
composition of matter, or any new and useful improvement thereof (para.6). There are three types

Update the Recurring Sin Tax Law that Was Newly...
Rationale of the Study This study was drawn to update the recurring sin tax law that was newly
implemented by the President of the Philippines, Benigno Aquino by assessing its effect to the
consumers of sin products and has given fruitful grounds and suggestions for future research in this
field.
In belief, the purpose of the imposition of excise tax on sin products is to raise revenues and
discouraging the consumption of the tobacco products and alcoholic beverages. It is claimed that
higher excise taxes on tobacco will make some smokers to quit, and reduce consumption of
continuing smokers, and prevent others from starting (Sunley, 2009). Because the demand for
cigarettes is relatively price inelastic, the expectation is that higher taxes will yield higher
revenues in the near term while preventing smoking in the longer term. If a tax is imposed on a
good, verbally express excise taxes on alcohol or tobacco, it may possibly have influenced the
decision of how many to consume and make efficiency cost (Badenes PlГЎ Jones, 2003). In
contrast, according to McGee (2000), liquor and cigarettes are had insensitive to changes of price
that many of the consumers of sin products continue to buy it regardless of the increase in its
prices. Then, it becomes usual that there will be a protest on excise tax for the reason that this sin
tax law will not cause a reduction to their demand in sin products. In worldwide tax rates,
Philippines obtain the lowest rate specifically on

Analysis Of Jeffrey Ostler s The Lakotas And The Black Hills
The Lakota, an Indian group of the Great Plains, established their community in the Black Hills in
the late eighteenth century (9). This group is an example of an Indian community that got severely
oppressed through imperialistic American actions and policy, as the Americans failed to recognize
the Lakota s sovereignty and ownership of the Black Hills. Jeffrey Ostler, author of The Lakotas
and the Black Hills: The Struggle for Sacred Ground, shows that the Lakota exemplified the trends
and subsequent challenges that Indians faced in America. These challenges included the plurality
of groups, a shared colonial experience, dynamic change, external structural forces, and historical
agency.
European Americans have commonly failed to recognize the plurality of American Indian groups,
as they have classified all Indians as being in the same group of natural beings that wear feathers
and ride on horses. However, there are many different American Indian groups and communities,
and some groups had further divisions, such as the Lakota. The Lakota were made of seven tribes,
the Oglalas, BrulГ©s, Minneconjous, Hunkpapas, Two Kettles, Sihasapas, and Sans Arcs (7). Out
of these, the Oglalas and the BrulГ©s got the most attention, as they spent the most time in the
Black Hills out of the tribes; however, the other tribes were definitely affected by United States
policy too as the Europeans set up forts all over their territory (13).

Protest Of The NFL Protest And The Protest In The Anthem
Recently NFL players have decided to kneel during the playing of the national anthem. The reason
they are doing this is to protest a number of things ranging from the unfair treatment of African
Americans to protesting against various things in their local communities. The protests started out
as just a few players taking knees during the anthem, but this past week it escalated to the majority
of the NFL taking part in some sort of protest. What sparked these players to join in was a tweet
by Donald Trump that read, If a player wants the privilege of making millions of dollars in the
NFL,or other leagues, he or she should not be allowed to disrespect our Great American Flag (or
Country) and should stand for the National Anthem. If not, YOU RE FIRED. Find something
else to do! (Trump). This tweet led most NFL players to take part in their teammates protest to
join in solidarity. While many people believe that these non violent protests are effective, there
is also a large number of people who believe that these protests are disrespectful to our flag and
country. They want their professional athletes to stick to sports and not make it so political.
James Robbins shared his opinion on these protests in an opinion piece for USA Today. He

The Tiananmen Square Protests of 1989, more popularly known as the Tiananmen Square
Incident or Tiananmen Square Massacre, were a series of student led demonstrations in Beijing
during 1989. The student led protests were forcibly suppressed by tanks and armed troops 2
weeks after the government declared martial law and mobilized as many as 300,000 troops into
Beijing. The death toll is still widely debated. The protests happened during rapid economic and
social developments in China. The students called for political and economic reform, as well as
more individual rights and freedoms due to the political corruption that was the result of inflation.
At the height of the protests, about a million people assembled in the Square. By May, a student led
hunger strike gathered support for the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Considered a watershed event, the event created limits to political expression in China. To this day,
it still remains one of the most sensitive and most widely censored political topics in mainland
China. While the hard liners of the Communist Party of China insisted on forcibly suppressing the
protests because they feared the anarchy that could follow, their actions garnered both national hate
and international scorn. The CCP was internationally condemned for using force against protesters,
and many Western countries even imposed commercial and financial bans, as well as arms
embargoes. The Tiananmen Square Massacre broke at least 5 articles of the UN Declaration of
Human Rights. The UDHR was instilled on December 10th, 1948, 41 years before the Tiananmen
Square Incident. While the Communist Party of China believed that the use of military force was
beneficial for society, the rights of the Chinese protesters had been violated due to the killing and
inhumane treatment, the significance and controversy of the Tank Man protest, and the suppression

Reflection Of The Observation Of Students In The...
The opportunity to observe students in the elementary school I once attended was very eye
opening. The elementary school teaches children who attend this school are kindergarten to fifth
grade. The classroom I am observed are students between nine and ten years old and are currently
in the fourth grade. When I arrived on campus there were many things that have changed and the
relationship between teachers and students is a lot closer now than from what I can remember
from the late 1990s and early 2000 years. The schoolnow displays murals and colorful art projects
designed by students and displayed throughout the hallways.
When I arrived on campus, I was greeted by a group of volunteer parents and one security guard.
They were very friendly and directed me to the main office so I could check in. I then met with
the principal who was already aware of my observation and was delighted to walk me to the
classroom of my observation. The current principle Rita Exposito began in 2010 and has been
with the school ever since. She explained to me some of the changes around the school he
believed I was not aware of and gave me a brief background on how the mission of the elementary
changed since becoming Andrew Jackson Stem Dual Language Academy.
Jackson Elementary School began its transition to fostering a better learning environment fall 2012
within a kindergarten class. From the first class, they then received a higher budget from the

Auto Insurance Myths
Ten Auto Insurance Myths Debunked
Myth 1: I ll save money by going for the cheapest quote available.
Fact: When you buy auto insurance, you re basically purchasing peace of mind and the
knowledge that an accident won t mean the end of your savings and a lifetime of debt. However
to ensure that you will be covered for any losses or damages, it s better to opt for quotes from a
company that has a reputation to maintain and the means to pay out when you make a claim.
Opting for an obscure, fly by night company just because it gave you the cheapest quote is a bad
idea. If it rejects your claim, or does not have the funds to pay out, you could potentially lose a
fortune.
Myth 2: All I need is Minimum Liability.
Fact: Yes and No. Minimum liability... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So an accident doesn t necessarily result in an increase in rates.
Myth 8:Younger drivers always pay obscene interest rates.
Fact: Not necessarily. Many car insurance companies offer young drivers discounts for completing
defensive driver s credits. Others give students below the age of 25 discounts for exceptional
academic performance. Students can also get discounts by installing air bags and anti theft devices.
By availing of these discounts, a student driver can definitely enjoy affordable insurance rates.
Myth 9:Car insurance covers the costs of items stolen from my car.
Fact: Generally, personal possessions left in the car are not covered by car insurance. Some home
insurance policies cover such items, but that varies from item to item and policy to policy.
Myth 10: If I get into an accident and the other party is at fault but has no insurance, my insurance
company will pay for my damages.
Fact: Not necessarily. If you have sufficient Collision coverage or Uninsured Motorists coverage
then the damages to your car and person will be covered. But you re on your own if you don t.
This is why some states require that all drivers carry Uninsured Motorist s

Advantages Of Driverless Car
A driverless car or robotic car is a vehicle that is capable of sensing its environment and
navigating without human input. It is known as autonomous car. In May 2017, automated cars
permitted on public roads but not yet fully autonomous since they all require human driver at the
wheel who is ready at a moment s notice to take control of the vehicle. There are many
techniques to detect the surroundings of autonomous cars like radar, GPS, laser light, odometry
(the use of data from motion sensors to estimate change in position over time), and computer
vision. To identify appropriate navigation paths, as well as obstacles and relevant signage,
advanced control systems interpret sensory information. Autonomous cars have control systems
that can analyze sensory data to distinguish between different cars on the road, which is very
useful in planning a path to the desired destination. The levels of autonomy are count from 0 to
5. The 0 level is for no automation. It is a full time performance by the human driver of all
aspects of the dynamic driving task, even when enhanced by warning or intervention systems
such as cars from 20 years ago. For level 1, it is called drive assistance where a driver assists system
of either steering or acceleration or deceleration using information about driving... Show more

One of the advantages is traffic safety improvements. Based on the study, 90 percent of
accidents are caused by driving error, and 20 to 30 percent of those accidents are a result of
distracted driving. The driverless cars will help to reduce the severity of 90 percent of all traffic
accidents where they think that in 2020, it will drastically reduce traffic related collisions and
fatalities. But, things can get worse since it will occur the confusion about the capabilities of these
vehicles along with the newness of the technology might cause some accidents as

Interprofessional Capability Framework
This essay will explore how healthcare policy influences interproferssional working in the
healthcare sector. I will reflect upon a practice based situation related to a service user and
discuss how this is linked to the policy Our health, our care, our say (Department of Health,
2006). I will also provide a self assessment of my current level of development using the
Interprofessional Capability Framework. Our health, our care, our say is a policy published by
the Department of Health in 2006 which aims to provide a more effective health and social care
service in the community outside of hospital. It s main aims are to improve community based
care, enable health independence and well being, provide better access to general practice and
community services, and greater support for people with long term health conditions. It sets out
the government s vision for high quality support meeting people s aspirations for independence
and greater control over their lives, making service flexible and responsive to individual needs.
This policy really highlights the need for an improved, person centred healthcare service in the
community, bringing together different interprofessional teams to provide quality care for the
service user. The practice based situation I will discuss revolves around Mary, a single mother of
two young children. Mary was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a left sided total
mastectomy, followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Mary

Comparative Education
France has a highly organized educational system, which is divided into primary, secondary and
tertiary (college) education. Primary and secondary education is usually imparted at public schools
although a strong network of private schools also exists. All educational programs in France are
regulated by the Ministry of National Education.
Schooling in France is mandatory as of age 6, the first year of primary school while secondary
education consists of collГЁge for the first four years after primary school and the lycГ©e for the
next three years. The baccalaurГ©at is the end of lycГ©e diploma that students must attain and is

Under the pressure of a massive rise in number pupils in middle and high schools, project
pedagogy was presented as a possible solution to meeting the needs of the diversity of pupils,
addressing their individual needs, and developing pupil autonomy (GinestiГ©, 2002). It was in this
context, in 1985, that technology education was introduced in France as a part of science and
technology education in elementary schools, as a new subject for all pupils in middle schools and
as an optional subject in high schools. We can note four stages of organization of technology
education between 1985 and today.
1.1.2 1985 1991: the implementation of the first curriculum
Technology education was conceived of as a new subject and took the place of
MTE (manual and technical education) in terms of hours, classrooms, and teachers.
The curriculum emphasized the industrial environment, leaving little room for home economics
and craftsmanship (COPRET, 1984). It had two different elements that made these references plain.
On the one hand, the general part of the course described the overall goals, context, and aims of
technology education in France.
The aims were in terms of pupils attitudes towards technology (as related in many papers, e.g. de
Vries, 1994; Jones, 1997; Compton amp; Jones, 1998; Gardner amp; Hill,
1999; Dugger, 2000) and in terms of the social and professional world of industrial production (this
idea can also be found in many papers

Food Wastage
Food Wastage
At the moment, it is hard to tell whether the world has sufficient food supplies or not. Most of
developed countries claim to have people who are still not able to access food while at the same
time, still report of more food wastage than the third world, developing nations. That indicates a big
mishap in the food cycle as it so happens that most of the food either finds itself in the dumpster or
on the plates of the very rich. China, USA, Canada, South Eastern Asia, and Europe have been
amongst the countries hit by this storm of food wasting. While Britain is said to be throwing away
about thirteen pounds of food per week, Canada is struggling with same problem. The United States
is not spared either. Food and Agriculture... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beijing stands out as an innovative place. As such, there is recycling of food scraps there. Here,
the do garbage sorting. The sorted garbage is returned to the soil for reproduction. Reports in
2012 talked of 50% effective sorting as having had taken place in Beijing. Also, various
organizations are trying to make sure that less food go to waste. Here, other than collecting of food
scrap, China could think of ways in which it can collect food and make it into compost. Other
than making of compost it would be vital to reduce foods at various joints such as school
cafeterias so that less goes to waste. Many people ought to be educated of the situation at hand
so that they too can try their hand on trying to save. Creation of a saving culture will see to the
institution of a system where people use less cash on food stuff and only buy what they want
(Yau, 2013). Here, education seems to be the best bet and people can, as well, try to donate the
extra that they would use on food to the poor: after all, the wasted food can feed all of them and
still have more than seventy million people to feed as excess.
Education is vital since it does not only lessen the waste, but it also make sure that less cash is used
on things that end up being thrown into a dump. The money can be used on more important
ventures such as personal development (Yau, 2013; Tang, 2013)).

RUNWAY COLLISION OF UNITED EXPRESS 5925.
Runway Collision of United Express 5925 and Beechcraft King Air N1127D
Abstract
On November nineteen, nineteen hundred and ninety six a United Express Beechcraft nineteen
hundred took off from Chicago. After an intermediate stop at Burlington, Iowa the aircraft took off
again for Quincy, Illinois at four forty PM. As the Beechcraftwas approaching Quincy, two aircraft
were ready for departure. Beechcraft King Air and Piper Cherokee were taxiing to runway zero
four. Since Quincy is an uncontrolled airport, all three aircraft used a common traffic advisory
frequency (CTAF). As the United Express Beechcraft was getting ready to land on runway thirteen,
it was under the impression that the King ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Contributing to the cause of the accident was the Cherokee pilot s interrupted radio transmission,
which led to the Beech 1900C pilots misunderstanding of the transmission as an indication from the
King Air that it would not take off until after flight 5925 had cleared the runway. Contributing to
the severity of the accident and the loss of life was the
lack of adequate aircraft rescue and firefighting services, and the failure of the air stair door on the
Beech 1900C to open. The Safety Board remarked that Quincy Fire Department that responded to
the accident was ten miles away and did not arrive on scene until fourteen minutes after the
accident. They contrasted that observation with FAR Part 139 requirements that certificated
airports be capable of immediate response times of three minutes by on site ARFF trucks equipped
with extraction tools and staffed with properly trained firefighters. The Board noted that this FAA
requirement applies only when the airport is being actively served by air carrier aircraft with
seating capacity of more than thirty passengers. The Quincy Airport ARFF truck was parked about
1,800 feet from the accident site, and if properly staffed, it could have reached the burning
wreckage in less than one minute. Fire fighters might have then have been

Themes In The Picture Of Dorian Gray
The Picture of Dorian Gray is a novel by Oscar Wilde, first published in 1890. In this novel, the
main character, Dorian Gray, has his soul trapped in a portrait which ages and records every
soul corrupting sin. Two main themes can be defined in this novel: desire, which is a strong
feeling of wanting to have something, or wishing something to happen; and pleasure, a feeling
of happy satisfaction and enjoyment. Therefore, forbidden pleasures and dark desires lead
Dorian Gray to be doomed. I m going to first examine Dorian Gray s desires, then the theme of
ruining lives, to end with living a life of pleasure. In the beginning of the novel, Dorian Gray is a
young man who has his life in front of him. He shows the desire of youth and beauty,... Show more

To start with, we could say that Basil Hallward was the one who launched it all. Firstly, he was
the one to paint the picture and also the one to introduce Dorian Gray to Lord Henry. But we can
also say that Lord Henry, with his hedonism ideas, was the main influence in Dorian s actions.
Having no idea whatsoever of the world as it is, Dorian was ignorant and innocent about it. Then
receiving ideas that pleasure is the means to life, he accepted them as universal truth, without
questioning them at all. And as soon as he began to believe in such things, everything fell apart.
Lord Henry finds confusing Dorian a source of pleasure, and he does not care if Dorian is going
down a path of destruction, by his philosophy,if it is amusing, it is good. Dorian only valued
Sybil as an aesthetic object. She was a living work of art, and when she couldn t act anymore,
she lost all of her value in the eyes of Dorian. He then broke up his engagement. As a sign of
what he was doing wrong, his painting showed the mark of his break up with Sybil, which meant
that it was also a pain to his soul, and it was the first time that the painting altered its appearance.
Without knowing it, Dorian was the cause to a great deal of pain, enough for that girl to kill herself

A Closer Look On How Foreign Doctors Are Discriminated
A Closer Look on how Foreign Doctors are discriminated A lot of people are bewildered why
more foreign doctors are not invited to work in American workplaces. There is a severe
discrimination and prejudice amongst anyone who is not an innate U.S. citizen. One of the main
reasons why Americans are trying to push foreigners away is for the safety of their nation. Some
Americans think that all foreigners are terrorists and are set out to destroy Americans but this is
not true at all. In fact, statistics show that foreigners actually bring good to the nation. Brian
Palmer, author of Slate magazine says, During the 1990s, a series of studies showed that
graduates of foreign medical colleges performed slightly worse on exams than their U.S. trained
colleagues, and program heads gave marginally better reviews to domestic physicians. By the turn
of the century, however, that gap had disappeared. International graduates now score higher than
U.S. educated doctors on many exams (Palmer). This was shocking to know that even though
foreign doctors are doing better than domestic doctors, they are still mistreated. Mistreatment of
doctors not only spans out nationwide but hits close to home as well. I know a person who had to
endure this cruel experience. I truly care for her and she inspires me to be a doctorlike she is. For
the sake of anonymity and spilling private personal information, I will call her Jane Doe and omit
some details. A couple weeks ago, I interviewed her on

  • 2. Levi s Case Analysis Video Case Study Analysis ARTI MUNSHI Levi s Not by Jeans Alone With other companies starting to encroach upon the Jeans market share, Levi s decided to introduce a new product. With the goal to gain profits, Levi s pursued diversification with the new product. This product was formal clothing for men. Levi s divided the consumers into five segments based on demographics, attitudes and beliefs. Q2 and Q1 appeared to be desirable target segments, however, Levi s decided to focus on the Q2 consumers, the classic independent males. These consumers were well dressed, cared about their appearance, shopped alone and mostly at specialty stores. They weren t price sensitive and preferred wool/wool blends in conservative colors. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Levi s decided to place their product in department stores as they had good relations with the retailers due to their volume sales of jeans. They did not have any real relationship with the specialty stores where the independent male shopped. Rather than placing their new products which would be considered as high end in these specialty stores and where they would be among the lower price range, they chose to place their products in the department stores where their products showed a deviation from the regular Levi formula and were considered very pricy as compared to other high end department store brands such as Haggar s. This price raised some concerns among the retailers as they were unsure if Levi s formal wear would move out of the stores at a required pace. Also, due to price quality inference, if Levi s was placed in a specialty store, the Q2 customer might prefer to buy a more expensive product. Levi tried to sell these formal clothes in the same stores as their casual clothes for the same segment of customers. Customers saw these formal clothes at the same place priced higher than the casuals, and therefore found them to be expensive. Due to the above reasons and lack of promotion, Levi s achieved only 65% of their sales target. They promoted the wrong product under their brand, for the wrong price at the wrong place. They failed to understand the needs of their customers. Levi s would have been able to avoid these mishaps if they changed their target ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. La Sylphie And Giselle Research Paper La Sylphide and Giselle, romantic ballets written in the Romantic era of the 19th century, revolutionized ballet by introducing the spirituality of Romantic poetry and literature to the world of dance. These ballets were brought to life through the tip of Marie Talioni s toes, an Italian French ballerina who is known for her graceful, almost evanescent dancing. La Sylphide and Giselle played an important role in creating a fundamental change in balletthrough its portrayal of supernaturalism. Isaiah Berlin, a philosopher widely considered to be the dominant British scholar in the 20th century, said Romanticism personified: A new and restless spirit, seeking violently to burst through old and cramping forms, and nervous preoccupations with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It brought a new poetry to the dance and created a greater illusion as if they were floating across the stage like mystical creatures. Pointe work was compulsory for the interpretation of a wili and sylph as it was seen to be the most transcendent example in these acts of romantic mystery (Guest, The Romantic Ballet in Paris, 18). Marie Taglioni as the role of Giselle, was able to achieve grace and spiritually of movement. Her attention was given to the minutest details. This marked her as one of the greatest leading Giselle s of her time. She seemed to float and bound like a sylph across the stage, never executing those tours de force that we know to be difficult and wish were impossible, being always performed at the expense of decorum and grace (Guest, The Romantic Ballet in Paris, 104). During this era, tricks and so called tours de force were not something that was prominent or important to the appeal of the choreographers. The true distinction during the Romantic period was the story line about love, madness, good vs. evil, and the supernatural. The Romantic Era shifts away from the early 18th century style and move away from the rational. This is an era of elusive dreams and life beyond death; an area that cultivates audience to feel and not to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Descriptive Essay On Campus Iowa State University offers a large campus. The campus itself entirely is around the size of my hometown. I have lived on campus for a few weeks now, and I know most of the campus, yet spend most of my time in my dorm. Whenever I am not in my dorm or in class though, I often find myself wandering around campus. When wandering around campus I usually look for the best spots for me just in case I want to sit around and relax. Of my favorite spots to visit, they are closer and very appealing to see. They however are also very popular places to visit, so many students visit them. What I mean by closer, is that these places are not too far away from my dorm on campus. I live in the Wilson Hall dormitory, known as one of the Towers, and it is quite far from the main campus. Seeing as I walk everyday to and from the main campus to and from my dorm, I tend to walk the same route, as to shorten the walk time it takes and be familiar with the area. On days I walk to my favorite spot, which is the second concrete benchnext to the Campanile, and I just sit there for hours and relax. Wilson Hall s dining hall is called Storms, and is located maybe 80 100 yards North of Wilson. As I leave through the North East exit of Wilson Hall, I cross the diagonal sidewalk running from Wilson to Storm s East Entrance/Exit. I tend to eat supper at Storms, and as I exit through the same entrance, I leave and grab an apple to eat along the way heading to the Campanile. I walk up Welch Street, ... • 5. Food Deserts Essay Two: Americans and Food We all have heard the old English proverb An apple a day will keep the doctor away . Applied in a more general or wide perspective it means that eating nutritious foods will make you healthier. This is one reason why it is so sad that more than 23 million Americans, including 6.5 million children, live in low income urban neighborhoods that are more than a mile away from a supermarket or in urban areas that are more than ten miles in rural (Croft). The USDA defines fooddeserts as parts of the country where fresh fruit, vegetables and other healthful whole foods, are limited usually in impoverished areas. • 6. Natural Disaster In Bangladesh 1.Introduction The number of natural disaster is increasing over the years and its impact to the economy and environment has increased remarkably. Flood disaster is a major threat to the environment and is responsible for the economic loss worldwide. Flood frequency, magnitude, extent and cost is accelerating quickly all over the world (Adjei darko, 2017). A single major floodevent can affect several countries simultaneously and can pressure on risk reduction and transfer (Jongman et al., 2014). According to the outcome of Aqueduct Global Flood Risk Analyzer launched by the US based World Resource Institute (WRI), flooding affects 21 million people annually and it could rise to 54 million by 2030 and the GDP loss is 96 billion $ in each year and it could be 521 billion $ by 2030 (Dutch water sector, 2005). Different sectors of Bangladesh also suffer a huge amount of loss due to regular flood inundation that impacts on countries budget through the disruption of economic activity (Hussain Shan, 2010; JГјssi, 2015). In Bangladesh, about 3.5 million people are annually affected by the flood and it can rise to 9.8 million per year by 2030. • 7. Housing Market Drives out of Economic Recession When researching past economic recoveries, the housing market is the one to drive the economy out of recession. That being said, this economic recession hasn t had much of an impact until recently. America s housing boom had a tremendous influence on the economy for its low prices and flow of new home construction. The new construction market in the mid 2000 s was flourishing. People saw building a home as an opportunity for a solid investment because prices and rates were so low that certain homes could depreciate extremely slowly. However, there would be a negative effect from all this low cost new construction and few were aware of just how devastating it would be to the new construction market. In 2005, the market was flooded with a vast array of homes that were all selling at a low price, and this allowed people to buy and sell homes with minimal effort. Banks were being reckless with their lending, not giving enough attention to who they were giving mortgages to, as virtually anybody with a decent credit score could go to a bank and get a mortgage, sometimes without even going to see if the land and ability for development was there. This created a housing bubble in 2006, and would inevitably come back to hurt a wide range of industries, but few were as damaged as the new construction industry. Once things started to get bad, they got really bad for a lot of families who were given mortgages, who were not properly qualified. There was a major spike in defaults, with ... • 8. Hellenistic Monks A monastic community is a place where women or men live out vows of obedience, poverty, and chastity. The monks of Norcia are an international community with a median age of 36. This brotherhood unites them to one to another by their common search for God. The three characteristics of a monastery are prayer, observance, and liturgical life. Described by the Rule of St. Benedict, the full Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours) marks hours of the day dedicated to the prayer life of the monks. Additional prayers such as the Jesus Prayer, the Rosary, Eucharistic Adoration, and Lectio Divina Prayers add to the daily round of Mass and Offices as spiritual nourishment. Aspects of observance are St. Benedict s fast, chanting of the Office, the observance of silence, and abstinence from meat. Monks foster the reconciliation in the heart of the Church through the careful celebration of the liturgy. The liturgy is the public prayer of the Church that celebrates what God has done for them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Benedict said, Keep death daily before your eyes. St. Benedict s saying refers to more than physical death, but also death to self. A monk is called to this daily, such as leaving family, friends, and home. Through prayer and daily conversion, the monks die to self and remain hidden or forgotten. They observe the many rules of Saint Benedict s outline for monastic life, dependability to prayer, vigil, and fasting. The beauty of the Church s liturgical tradition communicates the peace of Christ to the rest of world. The Rule of Saint Benedict is a book of precepts written by Benedict of Nursia for monks living under an abbot. It is summed up in the motto of the Benedictine Confederation: ora et labora, which means pray and work. This rule has been used by Benedictines for fifteen centuries. • 10. What Role Does The Bensalemites Play In Our Society The almost too perfect society of the Bensalemites is one that other societies should learn from indeed. They are united in that they are all working towards the greater good of humankind. There is a pleasant absence of conflict between the Bensalem government and people which can be attributed to the fact that politics does not play any role. The importance placed on religionalso strengthens the bond and support between them. Within this society is a detailed and thoughtfully structured system in which the members of the House of Salomon put great effort towards the betterment of the world as they know it. This devotion for truth and good nature stems from the love the inhabitants received years before from the original King Salomona. This King Salomona also put in place the system of constantly pursuing knowledge that the Bensalemites continued to follow. The combination of all of these things is what makes Bensalem such an advanced community full of wisdom and scientific knowledge. The scientists of Salomon s House have undertaken numerous projects. They utilize a variety of manmade and natural resources to strengthen and better the current and future Bensalem community. • 11. Two Generations Research Paper This generation, millennials, has a vastly different way of making it in the world than that of people from two generations ago. I interviewed my maternal grandmother for this assignment. We were raised relatively close to the same place, but in majorly different times. Blue Ridge, Georgia is only 7.5 miles from Cherry Log, Georgia. Quite a few of our answers matched, and I believe that s because my mother raised me and my two sisters the same way my grandmother raised her which was influenced by her upbringing. In addition to that, I spent a copious amount of my time as a child with my grandparents. While I was in their house, I followed their rules, which were stricter than my own parents rules, and it has made me see the world we are living... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their threat is not by means of natural selection or a changing world but by man who has deliberately or unknowingly depleted their habitat and community. Only mans intervention and realization of the problem can hope to save these animals (Garman 1996). An average adult leopard can reach an outstanding 8 feet from head to the tip of the tail. The combined head and body length can vary from 3 to 6 feet; with the tail averaging 23 to 44 inches. Standing, from feet to shoulder they can reach a height of 18 to 32 inches, again with the females being a third the size of the males (Anonymous B 1996). Emily Bronte in her poem The Caged Bird and Sympathy by Paul Dunbar portray their feelings in their lyric poems. Bronte was born in 1818 in Yorkshire, England. She lived during the end of the romantic period, which made a huge impact on her writings. The narrator for The Caged Bird feels alone and wishes to be able to snatch the chains that keep her tied down. Also, in the poem Sympathy by Dunbar as well an in The Caged Bird both authors used a bird to symbolize the captivity and aspiration for freedom. Both poets wrote their piece in lyric form because of obvious reasons. A lyric poem is defined as a poem that expresses personal and emotional feelings. Writing poems with this form shows the amount of deep emotion that the narrator feels toward this work. In addition, both authors wrote their poems in iambic pentameter to make the poem sound like a natural flow of speech to really show the deep feelings the poets are feeling. Using elements of language such as imagery and alliteration to give her readers a visual of what she is feeling and the oppression she is going through. In line 6 of Bronte s poem, she describes the world as Earth s breezy hills and heaven s blue sea , using adjectives to arouse and grasp her feeling of being free in nature. After this she starts to use words, which represents captivity such as chain and alone. She says, Could my hand unlock the chain/ how gladly I would watch it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The conditions of rape are often indistinguishable from those of war because rape is used as an expression of victory, retaliation against other countries or ethnic groups and as a means to satisfy weary troops. Before beginning, it is essential to establish what the main goals of wars are; under the conditions that rapeis condoned. In some instances war is waged as a method of retaliation; such as the Soviet counterattack after the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union; war can be used as an expression of victory or superiority in the case of Nazi Germany and its ideals of a pure Aryan race. The fact remains that this is a product of misogyny in their cultures we still see in contemporary society. Due to this, women are viewed as the paragons and upholders of their societies virtues, as biological reproducers of national and ethnic groups, agents for transmitting national culture and ideology, cultural symbols of purity and national housekeepers. This is in stark contrast to men who are illustrated as protectors of their nation s honour and as warriors; in retrospect, war is waged to humiliate and, in some cases, destroy the foundation of the opposing nation s society. Men, the primary defenders of their nation in hindsight are expendable, while they may die, their culture and society will live on through their women who will go on to transmit their genes and culture through the children they bear. Because women represent the three pillars of the home and not one; it is more efficient to target women, not only to demoralise the opposing enemy troops, but to consequently change the genetic make up and otherwise culture of the society the women live in. This act of humiliation not only scars the women and emasculates the men, but their society as a whole. I have heard them in plays and other performances, but they have never been the main production in something I have seen. It was very interesting to see the structure behind the sound. The amount of people and different instruments all together making a cohesive piece of musicwas absolutely incredible. There appeared to be well over 50 musicians working together to produce different sounds that fit together so tenaciously. Among the instruments involved in the orchestra, I noticed cellos, flutes, clarinets, cymbals, tambourines, trumpets, violins, trombones, tubas, french horns, and even a few instruments that I could not recognize. The diversity in the instruments created a strong yet effortless feeling in the listener. The music flowed so well that it seemed simple and easy, yet when I looked into the orchestra and saw how many components go into the composition, it is clear that it is quite intricate. Intellectual Property ( Ip ) Essay Intellectual Property (IP) can be broadly described as using human intellect to create something new or original, and it is collectively comprised of four categories: Trade secrets, trademarks, copyrights, and patents. Intellectual property is a valuable asset that must be protected and strategically managed. To fully foster innovation, intellectual propertyprotection is crucial. If protection is lacking, than businesses and individual would not fully benefit from their inventions and could possibly refrain from research and development. Rationale of the Study This study was drawn to update the recurring sin tax law that was newly implemented by the President of the Philippines, Benigno Aquino by assessing its effect to the consumers of sin products and has given fruitful grounds and suggestions for future research in this field. In belief, the purpose of the imposition of excise tax on sin products is to raise revenues and discouraging the consumption of the tobacco products and alcoholic beverages. It is claimed that higher excise taxes on tobacco will make some smokers to quit, and reduce consumption of continuing smokers, and prevent others from starting (Sunley, 2009). Because the demand for cigarettes is relatively price inelastic, the expectation is that higher taxes will yield higher revenues in the near term while preventing smoking in the longer term. If a tax is imposed on a good, verbally express excise taxes on alcohol or tobacco, it may possibly have influenced the decision of how many to consume and make efficiency cost (Badenes PlГЎ Jones, 2003). Analysis Of Jeffrey Ostler s The Lakotas And The Black Hills The Lakota, an Indian group of the Great Plains, established their community in the Black Hills in the late eighteenth century (9). This group is an example of an Indian community that got severely oppressed through imperialistic American actions and policy, as the Americans failed to recognize the Lakota s sovereignty and ownership of the Black Hills. Jeffrey Ostler, author of The Lakotas and the Black Hills: The Struggle for Sacred Ground, shows that the Lakota exemplified the trends and subsequent challenges that Indians faced in America. These challenges included the plurality of groups, a shared colonial experience, dynamic change, external structural forces, and historical agency. European Americans have commonly failed to recognize the plurality of American Indian groups, as they have classified all Indians as being in the same group of natural beings that wear feathers and ride on horses. However, there are many different American Indian groups and communities, and some groups had further divisions, such as the Lakota. The Lakota were made of seven tribes, the Oglalas, BrulГ©s, Minneconjous, Hunkpapas, Two Kettles, Sihasapas, and Sans Arcs (7). Out of these, the Oglalas and the BrulГ©s got the most attention, as they spent the most time in the Black Hills out of the tribes; however, the other tribes were definitely affected by United States policy too as the Europeans set up forts all over their territory (13). The protests started out as just a few players taking knees during the anthem, but this past week it escalated to the majority of the NFL taking part in some sort of protest. What sparked these players to join in was a tweet by Donald Trump that read, If a player wants the privilege of making millions of dollars in the NFL,or other leagues, he or she should not be allowed to disrespect our Great American Flag (or Country) and should stand for the National Anthem. A Closer Look On How Foreign Doctors Are Discriminated A Closer Look on how Foreign Doctors are discriminated A lot of people are bewildered why more foreign doctors are not invited to work in American workplaces. There is a severe discrimination and prejudice amongst anyone who is not an innate U.S. citizen. One of the main reasons why Americans are trying to push foreigners away is for the safety of their nation. Some Americans think that all foreigners are terrorists and are set out to destroy Americans but this is not true at all. In fact, statistics show that foreigners actually bring good to the nation. Brian Palmer, author of Slate magazine says, During the 1990s, a series of studies showed that graduates of foreign medical colleges performed slightly worse on exams than their U.S. trained colleagues, and program heads gave marginally better reviews to domestic physicians. By the turn of the century, however, that gap had disappeared. International graduates now score higher than U.S. educated doctors on many exams (Palmer). This was shocking to know that even though foreign doctors are doing better than domestic doctors, they are still mistreated.
