Frank Durrenmatt Allusion
The play The Visit, written by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, is set in the impoverished German town of
Güllen post World War Ⅱ in the 1950 s. The play begins with the wealthy and powerful Claire
Zachanassian returning to her hometown with the plan to donate a million dollars in exchange for the
life of the man who wronged and jilted her in her youth, Alfred Ill. While the impoverished town at
first refuses her offer, they eventually give into their need for money and execute Ill. Throughout the
play, the author uses the characterizations of Claire to construct an allusion to the three fates from
Greek mythology. The Greek fates are influential, immortal women who are in charge of controlling
the lives and deaths of mortals, symbolized by a string. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many characterizations that Durrenmatt uses to construct the allusion including Claire s
physical characteristics along with ones that correlate individually with each of the fates. Dürrenmatt
alludes to these beings through Claire to compare and to contrast the beings. The fates are greatly
powerful beings who are in a position within greek mythology to impose justice upon those who seek
fit. By alluding them to Claire, Dürrenmatt is using their characteristics and capabilities to further
characterize that Claire is as powerful as the fates and is also capable of imposing justice upon other
humans. While the allusion shows that the two beings are alike in that they both have power over
justice, it also highlights how the Claire and the fates both use their power differently. The fates use
their power to control human lives because it is their duty with greek mythology and they do so in a
just, unbiased manner. This is greatly contrasting to Claire who imposes her power over justice upon
anyone who she deems fit based on her own unjust biases. Dürrenmatt uses this theme of unjust power
to support the social commentary within his play about how although people of power and authority
are generally seen as more just, this is not always true. This social commentary is used as a reflection
upon the era of Dürrenmatt s youth, of which was greatly centered around World War Ⅱ. During World
War Ⅱ there were many authoritative figures that were not seen as just in their actions but because of
the position of power they obtained they were able to impose their justice upon others. Dürrenmatt
greatly disagreed with these figures and saw them to be unjust and only harmful because of their
power which is scene through Claire in the play who is able to buy off whatever justice she wants
because she is so powerful.

Analyse the Methods Used by One Single Party State Ruler...
Josef Stalin is known throughout Russia for his legendry use of terror, political manipulation and
demanding policies who would stop at nothing to achieve his goals. However, the question of the
legitimacy of his position as leader of the Bolshevik party still remains. Following the death of Lenin
in 1924, a power vacuum developed within the Bolshevik party and it was clear that a leadership race
between candidates had begun. Stalin was able to rise above men like Trotsky, Kamenev and Zinoviev
to launch into new economic policies, collectivisation and industrialisation. The main key to Stalin s
success in gaining power after Lenin s death was held in his alignment with the former hero of Russia,
as well as his ability to plan, manipulate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He used this information to choose certain people to fill key positions who wouldn t oppose his
policies. It created a solid mass of Stalin followers within the Bolshevik party who owed their posts to
Stalin and dared not oppose him. These Stalinists became crucial sources of support during the mass
purges of the party in later years. He had control over 700 party officials and the secret police, a
necessary tool to gain control over the majority of the Bolshevik party and the purges that would later
follow. Through this manipulation of elements within the communist party and even before Lenin s
death, Stalin built up vast local and national bases of support. With this in mind, he could then use his
power and influence to cut out any opposition. The power vacuum created by Lenin s death gave rise
for many of Stalin s opposition to challenge his bid for power and leadership of the communist party.
Leading up to Lenin s death, Trotsky and Stalin recognised they were the two main contenders to take
over the position as leader of the Bolshevik party. Stalin started a campaign to discredit the ideological
errors of his main rival for power. He rallied Kamenev and Zinoviev to isolate Trotsky, emphasising
his Jewish background and disloyalty to the party as an ex Menshevik member. Trotsky s lack of
devotion to the memory of Lenin further fuelled this anti Trotsky movement within the party. Stalin
was a master of

The Importance Of Deaf Education
Whether someone responds to a person knocking on a door, a car honking down the street, or speakers
blasting loud music, our hearing plays a significant role in providing us with vital information. Hence,
hearing is an important sense, and the significance of hearing often goes underappreciated until it is no
longer available (Saint Joseph s University, 2017). In spite of that, research proves that children who
experience hearing loss must have opportunities to enjoy a quality of life that does not remind them of
their disabilities, but experience a quality of life that makes necessary modifications to augment their
abilities. It is fair to state that Deaf education evolved over a course of centuries, with Pedro Ponce de
Leon making history as a pioneer teacher for students who were deaf. As a 16th century Spanish
monk, Ponce de Leon received recognition for revolutionizing the education of children by creating
one of the original manual alphabets (Saint Joseph s University, 2017) for speaking and fingerspelling.
Concurrently, Geronimo Cardano joined the movement for Deaf education in 1550 by disclosing that
hearing loss should not deny people opportunities to learn (Saint Joseph s University, 2017). With
significant gains from Ponce de Leon s innovative system for communication, along with Cardano s
experience as a father of a son who had a hearing disability, both individuals established themselves as
credible sources proving that children are capable of learning by

Essay about Darwin’s Dangerous Idea
At the beginning of the 1800s, scientists knew of some kinds of fossils, and were very aware of
homologous and vestigial structures. Many scientists suspected that some kind of evolution had given
rise to living things around them. However, they had no theory to explain how evolution might have
occurred. Two scientists led the way in the search for a mechanism of evolution. The first was Jean
Lamarck. The second was one of the greatest figures in biology, Charles Darwin. What is evolution?
Evolution is a change in the traits of living organisms over generations. Since the development of
modern genetics in the 1940s, evolution has been defined more specifically as a change in the
frequency of alleles in a population from one generation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Natural selection, together with the rules of inheritance discovered by Gregor Mendel, stand at the
basis of modern evolutionary biology.
Darwin was the British naturalist who became famous for his theories of evolution and natural
selection. Like several scientists before him, Darwin believed all the life on earth evolved over
millions of years from a few common ancestors. From 1831 to 1836 Darwin served as naturalist
aboard the H.M.S. Beagle on a British science expedition around the world. In South America Darwin
found fossils of extinct animals that were similar to modern species. On the Galapagos Islands in the
Pacific Ocean he noticed many variations among plants and animals of the same general type as those
in South America. The expedition visited places around the world, and Darwin studied plants and
animals everywhere he went, collecting specimens for further study.
Upon his return to London Darwin concluded thorough research of his notes and specimens many
ideas. Out of this study grew several related theories: one, evolution did occur, two, evolutionary
change was gradual, requiring thousands to millions of years, three, the primary mechanism for
evolution was a process called natural selection, and four, the millions of species alive today arose
from a single original life form through a branching process called specialization.
The movie Darwin s Dangerous Idea was based on Darwin s theory of evolution. It

A Raisin The Sun And Willy Loman Compare And Contrast Essay
The striving for being rich and have a wealthy life has always been present in the American society.
Often living in a capitalistic society leads people to become greedy, and as a result many become too
materialistic. This may happen because of the challenge to pursue the American dream where most of
Americans are trying to fulfill it. Unfortunately, for most of people it is very difficult to acquire this
high status and to secure a spot in the upper class society. Arthur Miller s, Death of a Salesman, and
Lorraine Hansberry s, A Raisin the Sun, are two plays that reveal two main characters: Willy Loman
and Walter Lee Young, characters that reflect typical features of the people who struggles to achieve
the American Dream. Although they may have common characteristics and share similarities, they
also have numerous issues and are very different, setting them apart from other families and even each
other. Therefore, the main focus of this paper will be to compare and put in contrast these two great
characters. In both plays, A Raisin the Sun and Death of a Salesman, the father (Walter and Willy) is
the main individual that holds his attention throughout the plays. Because of their roles are often
changing in the plays, Walter and Willy can be the protagonist and the antagonist. That being said,
they both have goals to possess their own business and to be their own boss. They both strive to live
wealthy. As Walter says No...It was always money, Mama. We just didn t know about it (Hansberry).
This reveals that Walter is more materialistic instead of considering the feeling of his family.
Willy and Walter are very similar in many ways. For instance, they both are trying to be good fathers.
Walter s goal to get rich is influenced by his restless desire to offer to his family a better life: You
tired, ain t you? Tired of everything. Me, the boy, the way we live this beat up hole everything. Ain t
you? (Discovering Literature, 1295). Meanwhile, the love that Willy has for his sons is undeniable.
Very often he would slip into the past before he drifted apart from his sons: Remarkable. Remember
those days? The way Biff used to simonize that car? The dealer refused to believe there was eighty

Sal Paradise
In the novel On the Road by Jack Kerouac, Sal Paradise is introduced as a man who is seeking a way
to escape responsibilities he has in his life. Sal finds his way out in a man named Dean Moriarty, an
independent man who lives a carefree life on the road without any responsibilities as he travels to new
places in search of new kicks (Kerouac). Sal begins to idolize Dean s way of life and quickly adopts it
as his own and sets out on the road. Sal follows Dean looking to him for guidance, and much like a
child adopts the views and personality of their parents until they grow old enough to forge their own
opinions, Sal adopts Dean s views and personality as his own. In the beginning, Sal is unable to see
how irresponsible Dean is with his life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of his shortsighted tendencies, Dean only focuses on himself and his goals of finding new
experiences, and he does not let anyone or anything keep him from perusing his goals no matter the
consequences. This is best seen by the many times Dean gets married and fathers children only to
abandon them to go back on the road. Sal mentions this stating, Every new girl, every new wife, every
new child was an addition to his bleak impoverishment. (Kerouac 132). In Jack Kerouac s On the
Road : A Re Evaluation by Carole Gottlieb Vopat, Vopat compares a common theme about the
characters in On the Road that explains the reasons for Dean s single minded actions. Kerouac s
characters take to the road not to find life but to leave it all behind: emotion, maturity, change,
decision, purpose, and, especially, in the best American tradition, responsibility; wives, children,
mistresses, all end up strewn along the highway like broken glass. (Vopat). Because Dean does not
want to take on any responsibilities and does not want close and emotional relationships, he chooses to
take to the road and run from them. Over time Sal experiences more of Dean s actions as well as the
effects of his actions which leads to a change in Sal which will lead to his eventual and complete
separation from

The Importance Of The European Union
Europe is one of the largest economic zones in the world and has tremendous influence within global
economics and politics. The European Union was created to promote peace throughout a region that
has been plagued by wars for all modern and ancient history. There is growing discontent towards the
Union in recent years, the United Kingdom has voted to leave the Union through efforts from and
candidates in member countries have pledged to leave the Union once in power. The future of the
Union is in jeopardy so the question is, whether the E.U. should remain as one or dismantle entirely,
and what problems to both paths lead to? The European Union should remain because all member
countries benefit economically and socially through unity, however the Union needs to agree more on
policy instead of populism. When the European Union was established the cause was rooted in
European peace. After the Second World War, many European countries found themselves in ruin and
saw an emerging superpower in the east in the U.S.S.R. Countries in Europe decided it was in their
best interest to form a federation of European countries in order to promote a more safe and secure
Europe. For the most part, it has worked, It is no coincidence that the longest period of peace in
written history in Europe started with the formation of the European Communities (Juncker 2016).
Europe quickly started signing economic treaties to help promote better trade between countries and
this gradually expanded

A Brief Biography of William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare, the man of many artistic talents, is still quite a mysterious figure in today s
world, mainly because of the lack of records on this man; but also because of his writings. According
to what little the Holy Trinity Church had documented on William Shakespeare, the legal and business
transactions including some theatrical and Court documents as well as his life s work, can be used to
put the little bits of information given to us to see the basic overview of this man s life, use it to see
the Globe Theater where he worked as a playwright and an actor, as well as what the Elizabethan Era
that he lived in was like.
Elizabethan England Era, or the Golden Age in England, started in 1558 when Queen Elizabeth
succeeded her Catholic sister Mary I and re established the Protestant Anglican Church. During this
Era William Shakespeare was born in Stratford upon Avon on April 23, 1564 to a John Shakespeare, a
glover and leather merchant, and Mary Arden, a landed local heiress. Three days later, on April 26,
1564 William Shakespeare was baptized in the Holy Trinity Church. William Shakespeare was the
third oldest out of the eight children born into the Shakespeare s family. In the 1570 s during the
excommunication of Queen Elizabeth 1 from the Catholic Church, Shakespeare s fathers lost most of
his money.
With the loss of their fortune, Shakespeare s father s job as a Stratford official would have been able to
give William a waiver of tuition; which would explain

Painting With Light By Dante Gabriel Rossetti Essay
The exhibition, Painting with Light will be displayed at the Tate Modern in London from May the
11th till September the 25th 2016. To those of you who may see Edwardian and Victorian art as not
being particularly exciting, i would encourage you to try and look past this disinterest and get down to
see the Painting with Light exhibition. The exhibition impressively manages to capture the
development of art during the period in a way of which the disinterest of most is turned into intrigue
and knowledge.
The exhibition focuses on the relationship between painting and photography, the largely experimental
period in which this developed coincided with the founding of the Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood.
Paintings by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, John Everett Millais and John Singer Sargent are included (and
personally i believe they are the highlights of the exhibition) are shown side by side with the photos
they inspired and of subjects they drew inspiration from.
The Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood was a secret society of the mid 19th century that sought to create a
new form of British art. They strived to emulate art from the late medieval period, early renaissance
till the of Raphael, striving to convey messages of artistic renewal and moral reform. This theme
combined with Aesthetic and Impressionist works gives the richness in culture and a great span in
examples that supply ample contextual and visual support for the idea the exhibition is conveying.
Although the exhibition

Development Of Developing And Managing Offerings
Developing and managing offerings constitute one of the highest risk any organization can make.
These are decisions that can led to bankruptcy if it fails nonetheless firms needs to continuously seek
for ways to meet those needs if they must stay in business. Sure, in your area you have seen some
businesses shut their doors after just a few periods of existence. Some firms like Adidas, Samsung and
Nike have more than one product while others have just one. What is certain in this relationship is that
the development process follow seven steps principles but may differ based on the business make up
and the organization. The first step of this process is idea development. Ide Generation. Conception

The American Jury System

12 February 2016
The American jury system is no longer reliable. Those on the American jury system usually base their
decision on opinions rather than facts. Ordinary citizens do not have the a full understanding of the
law. The majority of the jury is easily influenced like the image of the convicted can influence the
juror. Jury duty is mandatory not a choice, it is a person s choice that is not their own.
Those a part of the American jury system tend to base their decisions on opinions rather than actually
analyzing the facts. Those on the jury may not be qualified to acquit someone. In the novel written by

Constitution viewed jury service as a critically important feature of self governance and enshrined

Pros And Cons Of A Great Looking Garden

To me a great looking garden is much more than just that just a smart looking lawn and finely cut

Overview of Three Interpretations of Samuel Beckett s...
Samuel Beckett wrote Waiting for Godot between October 1948 and January 1949. Since its premiere
in January of 1953, it has befuddled and confounded critics and audiences alike. Some find it to be a
meandering piece of drivel; others believe it to be genius. Much of the strain between the two sides
stems from one simple question. What does this play mean? Even within camps where Waiting for
Godot is heralded, the lack of clarity and consensus brings about a tension and discussion that has
lasted over sixty years. I will look at what I have determined to be the three most predominant
interpretations of the play, including anti Christianity, existentialism, and nihilism. By also examining
Beckett s life and influences, I believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Furthermore, Basaninyenzi writes a fairly common claim. He says, Godot, as many critics maintain, is
a diminutive of God. He is a supremely powerful being, for it is he who holds in his hand the future of
mankind Vladmir and Estragon (Basaninyenzi 70). Godot is an entity who is ever present, but is never
explicitly there and yet controls the entire movement or lack thereof in the show stands directly
parallel to God as a spiritual entity. Basaninyenzi believes that based on these two similarities that
Waiting for Godot is an inherently anti Christian text.
Ashkan Shobeiri agrees to an extent, but takes his stance a bit further. In his article for the
International Journal of Humanities and Social Science, Shobeiri provides a reason as to why Beckett

According, to Zekman, (2014) resident s needs at Sunrise Assisted Living were not because they were
not performing their tasks adequately. The functional manager failed to evaluate the performance of
employees, and checking on the residence s to see if they are getting the proper services they need.
The functional manager and the employees breech their duties; they should be working as a team to
provide all the help the residents require because they are paying for it. Based on research, general and
functional managers are responsible to imply their knowledge, energy, and enthusiasm in an
organization. They are in a position where they have to provide strategic leadership to their
subordinates and develop a high performing company Hill, Jones, and Schilling (2015).
The result of strategic vision failures is something that CEOs and managers do not like to see in the

The Effect Of Monetary Policy On Determination Of Coal Prices
To examine the effect of monetary policy on determination of coal prices in the U.S., we rely on a
dynamic framework of cointegrated vector autoregression (CVAR). The prerequisite requirement for
the application of the CVAR approach is that the selected variables must be nonstationary (i.e., I(1)
series). The presence of a unit root in the variables is thus tested using the Dickey Fuller generalized
least squares (DF GLS) test (Elliott et al., 1996). Panel A of Table 1 reports the results of the DF GLS
test. Since the null hypothesis of a unit root cannot (can) be rejected for any of the levels (first
differences) of the three variables at the 5% level, all the series are found to be nonstationary I(1)
processes.
It should be emphasized, however, that because of inability of the DF GLS to capture the possibility of
a structural break, the power of the test is likely to decrease with an undetected structural break in the
series, thereby providing misleading results. For completeness, therefore, we investigate unit roots in
the presence of a structural break using the Perron Vogelsang (PV) test. The results of the PV test are
summarized in Panel B of Table 1. As seen in the DF GLS test, the null cannot (can) be rejected for all
the levels (first differences) of the variables, confirming that all the three variables are I(1) series.
Hence, it is certain that the underlying series are apparently all I(1) processes even after taking into
account a structural break in the series,

E. E Cummings Essay
Edward Estlin Cummings was an unbelievable great American poet one of the most well versed
scholar in the subject of poetry. E. E. Cummings was excessively popular, especially among younger
readers of his work. He was known for being reckless in thought when it came to his poetry, it was
also said that he experimented radically with his form of spelling, syntax, punctuation, and miss
spelling. More than half of his poems turn to the subjects of sex, love, and war, with such facile
language leaving behind the traditions that most poets followed. E. E. Cummings was born on October
14, 1894 to Edward Cummings and Rebecca Haswell Clarke, who were Unitarian. His father was a
professor at Harvard University and was later the nationally known minister of Old South Church in
Boston, Massachusetts. His mother loved to spend time with Cummings and his sister Elizabeth. His
mother and father knew about the creative gifts Edward had with poetry, from an early age he would
write a poem daily from the ages of eight through twenty two. With writing a poem everyday Edward
learned many different self taught form of ways to write poems. At the age of twenty one he had

DISCUSS THE WAYS IN WHICH IAGO CONTROLS AND MANIPULATES TWO OTHER
CHARACTERS IN OTHELLO
Iago controls and manipulates many characters in Othello including Roderigo, Brabantio, Cassio,
Emilia, Desdemona, and even Othello himself. I will only be looking at Cassio and Othello because
the fate of Iago s plans rest in their actions, therefore he controls and manipulates them more than any
of the other characters like Roderigo who is also manipulated by Iago for a lot of the play but I found
the relationship between Othello, Cassio, and Iago more interesting because they are both his
superiors so Iago has to be more careful with how he manipulates them. When Iago speaks to
Roderigo he can tell him a lot that may or may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Othello s lieutenant, Cassio is a young and inexperienced soldier (we are told this in the beginning of
the play when Cassio is first spoken of), whose high position is much resented by Iago. Truly devoted
to Othello, Cassio is extremely ashamed after being implicated in a drunken brawl on Cyprus and
losing his place as lieutenant. Iago uses Cassio s youth, good looks, and friendship with Desdemona to
play on Othello s insecurities about Desdemona s fidelity.
Iago controls Cassio for most of the play. It is important for Iago to control Cassio in the way that he
does because it allows Iago to get exactly what he wants. Iago uses Cassio s faults to manipulate him,
like Cassio s looks and his flirtatious personality to Cassio s own disadvantage because Iago gets
Othello to think that Desdemona is having an affair with him. It all starts when he persuades Cassio to
join in with the festive drinking even though Cassio has a weak alcohol tolerance level I have very
poor and unhappy brains for drinking this shows that Iago can still persuade Cassio to drink a lot of
alcohol even though he knows that he cannot take it. Iago implies that he and Cassio have the same
friends which makes Cassio think that they are best friends; he does this by calling the other men our
friends which implies that they too would be friends. Iago also tells Cassio that he will drink for
Cassio which makes Cassio think

The Drunk Bus Should Be Kept Around Essay
The Drunk Bus Should Be Kept Around
I remember hearing stories of such a thing called the drunk bus before I came to college, but I was not
exactly sure what it was. I just figured the bus took a bunch of drunken college students to the bars
when they wanted to go. Now that I am a first year student at State U, I understand I was not that far
from the truth. Some say the bus should be taken away, but the fact of the matter is the bus is a
necessity at college since there will always be drinking. This way, when all of the students are done
drinking at school and want to go to the bars, they are not putting themselves or any other members of
the community in danger by drinking and driving.
Safety is always a factor

I am also positive if there were to be a terrible wreck caused by an intoxicated student, the entire
community would all agree that the drunk bus is a wise choice to keep in commission. If the drunk bus
were to go out of commission, then I am certain the amount of accidents would rise dramatically.
Sober students ride the bus as well
Not every person who gets on the bus is intoxicated. I have talked with many of my friends and they
tell me that they hardly ever are intoxicated when they go on the bus, but the just want to have a good
time and dance at the club. If students ask the bus driver, he will also make stops to local grocery
stores such as Wal Mart and Hy Vee. I know many students that go on the bus just hang out at the bar
to have fun, without drinking. Therefore, this shows how the bus has more than one use of just
transporting drunken students.
Students will always drink
I read a very interesting book called Behind the Arch: The Truth about Drinking at Buena Vista
University. This book explained how the Storm Lake, IA community feels that having the drunk Bus
around only encourages students to drink. I think the community needs to realize if there were no bus
to transport intoxicated students to and from the bars, the students only option would be to drive
intoxicated, which should never happen. Eighty five percent (or 334) of the 395 students who
completed the online survey indicated they drank (14). It is common knowledge there

Last summer two men in Hunt county Texas were arrested for selling synthetic drugs reported by the

is not an isolated case but a continuing dilemma for law makers, enforcers and prosecutors against the
makers and distributors of designer drugs. (1) Creating a War on Drugs is not a solution. Due to the
simplicity of manipulating a product on the banned substance list, chemical change formulations

As stated by Wang et al. (2006, p. 160) ... environmental accidents, complaints, and concerns have
pressured industries to shift from the traditions end of pipe approaches to sound pollution prevention
strategies . Interface are reducing their smoke stacks. End of pipe solutions are no longer accepted as a
means of reducing pollution and remaining sustainable in the 21st Century (Waage 2003, p. 23). This
has resulted in Interface reducing their 292 smoke stacks to 183. This is a 39% reduction in smoke
stacks from their operations. A reduction in smoke stacks equals a reduction in pollutants and waste
entering the earths atmosphere. As stated by Wang et al. (2006, p. 160) Pollution represents a loss in
profits during manufacturing . By Interface reducing their pollution through smoke stack
minimisation, they will see a return in increased profits. Further looking into the aspect of reducing
emissions, Interface has acknowledged that to prevent toxic emissions altogether we must go upstream
and prevent those toxic substances from entering our factories in the first place. What comes in will go
out as a product, waste or emission (Waage 2003, p. 23.). To sum this statement, prevention is better
than cure. By following a process of assessing what products come into a manufacturing process and
either substituting or eliminating pollutant products, the end waste will be minimised. As Interface has

Analysis Of The Book Errand Into The Maze
Errand into the Maze, is a captivating and clever piece choreographed by one of the most influential
individuals within the dance industry, Martha Graham. Errand into the Maze takes it s audience back
into Greek Mythology that portrays a woman, Phaedra, confronting her fears which takes on the form
of a man; however, there is more than what meets the eye. She depicts a woman caught within her
own emotional maze: the torturing battle of temptation.
Martha Graham is one of the most highly renowned and influential artist and chorographer in Modern
dance of all time. Graham has influenced Modern dance, taking styles of her own and being able to
express a variety of themes with human emotion. Graham s work strongly reflected her; she is also
well known for her other choreographies such as: Appalachian Spring, Lamentation, and Night

The Menagerie Sparknotes
The author depicts the hunger artist as a tragic figure, whose art of fasting, which was once widely
appreciated by the world, became totally neglected and forgotten. For the hunger artist whose only joy
and satisfaction in life is the excitement and admiration of the spectators, when that excitement turns
into disgust and the admiration turns into suspicion, so did the satisfaction the artist felt at the end of
each fasting performance. Alas, he became increasingly despondent and furious at the world for not
understanding his art. Yet, the hunger artist can t just give up his fasting ways, because for one thing
he fasted for so long he became too fanatically devoted to fasting; for another, he s too old in his years

The hunger artist, unable to lower himself to show his art in a street booth, hired himself into a large
circus. Yet, even in a large circus with heavy foot traffic, interest in hunger artists are nearly non
existent. Because his cage is right by the menagerie, the little visitors he get are simply the one who
happens to be passing by to see the menagerie. The few visitors he get might have stayed longer, if not
for those pressing behind them behind them in the narrow gangway, who did not understand why they
should be held up on their way towards the excitements of the menagerie, made it impossible for
anyone to stand gazing for any length of time (Kafka, 4). As a result, he soon began to dislike the
visiting hours, for he can see in the eyes of the visitors that he is only a small impediment to the crowd
of people from visiting the better attraction, the menagerie. Although at last he was free to fast as long
as he like, free to astound the world of a never achieved record, the world isn t watching. The fine
placard by his cage once showing the number of fast days achieved ... had long stayed at the same
figure, for after the first few weeks even this small task seemed pointless to the staff (Kafka, 5). Even

spoke of swindling, that was in its way the stupidest lie ever invented by indifference and inborn

The Biological Significance Of The Properties Of Water Essay
The Biological Significance Of The Properties Of Water
The human body 15% lipids, 12% proteins but by far the biggest % is water which makes up a
massive 70% of the human body. This is the equivalent of 49kg in an average male adult human of
mass 70kg. This is a good indication of just how important water is in the human life. Without water
we would not be able to life and Earth is therefore the only planet in this galaxy with life as we know
it except for Mars where ice has been discovered so water may have been present once.
Water is a polar molecule, meaning that it has a positive and a negative pole. This is due to the fact

It is this cohesion that allows water to travel up tree trunks to the highest branches on trees, if the
cohesion was weaker the water would simply flow back down the xylem vessels due to gravity,
therefore without this property of water tall trees and plants would die.
This cohesion of the water creates a surface tension on the surface of water in for example, a pond. In
a pond small insects such as pond skaters which are relatively dense can float on the water and live on
the surface of the water. Without the tension such organisms would have no habitat and would die.
Water also acts as a good temperature buffer to stabilise experiments within cells. Due to the hydrogen
bonds produced bonds between the water molecules water is given the following properties relating to
heat and temperature :
1. Relatively high heat capacity
2. Relatively large latent heat of vaporisation
3. Relatively large latent heat of fusion
These three properties are very similar and basically mean that a relatively large amount of energy
required to change the temperature or state of water. The specific heat capacity of water is 4184J/kg,
over 40 times that of sodium chloride. This means that a lot of energy is required to change the
temperature of water and it is that fact that makes this property very useful in enzyme action. Enzymes

It is also believed by breeders that a dog passes certain champion qualities down to their offspring by
way of lineage.
Inbreeding in the dog s lineage is one key point of the Pedigree that no one really talks about to the
non showing potential owners; it is indicated by one dog being used to sire multiple lines of the family
tree. The AKC does not discourage this and often it is difficult to recognize for a non showing owner.
Many show breeders will not allow their puppies to be purchased by non show homes in an attempt to
preserve their lines. According to A genetic assessment of the English bulldog , written by N.
Pedersen, A. Pooch, and H. Liu, there is very little knowledge about the actual genetic status of the
breed and whether enough genetic and phenotypic diversity still exists to significantly improve health
without further reducing existing genetic diversity or relying on outcrossing (4) (breed two dogs from
different lineage to add fresh blood to the family tree). However, many show breeders believe that
they must utilize a sire across more than one line within their pedigree to preserve the specific traits of
the breed that make their bloodlines of champion quality. One could argue that in doing so, they are
reintroducing certain predispositions back into their own bloodlines two fold; reinforcing what may be
a defect of sorts in their own lines.
I had to learn very quickly what predisposition meant in regards to breeding. Many English Bulldog

Ocean Stratification
The earth, as we know, is and always has been changing. Although we may not be able to feel or even
see such gradual changes, we must try to aid our planet s longevity for future generations. A major
problem that we face is the deterioration of Earth s atmosphere and climate change. Some believe that
the problem could be fixed through geoengineering. Scientists and engineers have proposed many
potential solutions with geoengineering, one being ocean fertilization. This idea suggests filling
regions of the ocean with iron and other various nutrients where little biological production exists.
This would increase phytoplankton activity that would take the carbon down deeper into the ocean.
Ultimately, this could get rid of excess carbon when the phytoplankton die and fall to the ocean floor.
Ocean fertilization, although it may have a few negative effects, could lower the amount of carbon
dioxide in the atmosphere, thus slowing down Earth s natural heating process. Iron is one of the most
important nutrients that are necessary for phytoplankton. This nutrient can be found short in supply
where stratification has occurred in ocean waters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, ocean fertilization seems to be one of the only options us geo engineers have left to try to
stop, or even just slow down human harm on the climate. If a large group of people could come
together behind ocean fertilization, the effort could remove over thousands of tons of carbon dioxide
from our atmosphere. Although there are many experts who believe that this system would actually
cause more damage and add more carbon than the amount it removes, the chances are very slim. The
pros of ocean fertilization heavily outweigh the cons in the situation. The chance that this system
might improve our climate and the overall health of the ocean drastically is a good enough reason to
give it a

The Family Law Act 1975 ( Cth )
The Family Court is a superior court which was first established in 1975 under the Family Law Act
1975 (Cth). This Act, as amended by the Family Law Reform Act 1995 (Cth) and the Family Law
Amendment (Shared Parental Responsibility) Act 2006 (Cth), states that all children have a right to
know, be cared for, and have regular contact with both parents and other significant people. This is of
course if it would be contrary to the child s best interests.
The Family Court ensures that each case and judgement concerning marriage/relationship breakdowns
involving children is treated equally with emphasis on the child and its best interests. At times mutual

The additional considerations are very broad and include a large variety. In many circumstances, and
depending on the situation of each individual case, what the court believes to be relevant will also be
taken into account. Some main ones include:
 the views of the child (depending on age)
 each parent s ability/ willingness to encourage a close and continuing relationship between the child
and the other parent
 the possible effect of change on the child
 the nature of the relationship between the child and each parent
 any family violence/family violence order that applies to the child or their family
International laws often play a large role in the development of laws and legislation of the Australia
Legal System. An example of this is the United Nation s Convention of the Rights of the Child,

basis to which the best interests of the child were formed.

It was estimated in 1887 that Tiffany s vaults held $40 million in precious stones. Among these was
the largest flawless and perfectly colored canary diamond ever mined. This 128.5 carat Tiffany
Diamond, still held by the New York store, has been valued by the company at $22 million.
In 1894 a factory was established in New Jersey in Forest Hill, which was later annexed by Newark,
for the manufacture of silverware, stationery, and leather goods. Charles Tiffany died in 1902, leaving
an estate estimated at $35 million. He was the only Tiffany to run the company. Louis Comfort
Tiffany, his eldest son to survive childhood, was an accomplished artist who sometimes made jewelry
for Tiffany but was best known for his Art Nouveau stained glass windows and lamps. In 1905 the
store had moved into quarters at Fifth Avenue and 37th Street designed by Stanford White in the form
of a Venetian palazzo, and two years later John C. Moore, great grandson of the silversmith, became
president.
Tiffany s sales volume rose from $7 million in 1914 to $17.7 million in 1919. This figure was seldom
if ever matched during the 1920s, but profits remained high and dividends rose steadily. A share of

Pathogenesis Of Arthrosclerosis
The pathogenesis of arthrosclerosis is a progressive disease of the vascular system, it starts while we
are young and progresses throughout our lives. The progression of arthrosclerosis, starts with an injury
to the endothelial lining of the arteries, from such diseases as, hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes
and smoking. The damage to the endothelial cells causes dysfunction and the area with endothelial cell
inflammation draws leukocytes, cholesterol, vascular smooth muscle cells and other debris, the
buildup creates atherosclerotic plaque deposits in areas on an artery wall causing an inflammatory
process (Hoffman, 2007).
Over time the buildup of plaque on the artery walls produces hardening of the vessel walls and
blockages that slow the flow of blood throughout the body. Arthrosclerosis affects the heart, peripheral
arteries and the carotid and cerebral arteries that supply blood flow to the brain (Arthrosclerosis,
2014). The effect on the body from arthrosclerosis causes other diseases to form, peripheral vascular
disease, coronary artery disease, hypertension, renal disease and stroke (Story, 2011). If the plaque
buildup ruptures or breaks off, it forms a thrombus or blood clot that can cause a stroke, heart attack or
even death. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those over forty years old have a fifty percent chance of developing arthrosclerosis and the chances
increase as we age. Ways to prevent arthrosclerosis or keeping it from worsening are to stop smoking,
eat a healthier diet, exercise and medications. Diabetics are at a higher risk for developing
arthrosclerosis because of the high levels of glucose in the blood that damages the vessel, which
creates inflammation and gives particles in the blood a place to stick and form plaque

  • 2. Frank Durrenmatt Allusion The play The Visit, written by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, is set in the impoverished German town of Güllen post World War Ⅱ in the 1950 s. The play begins with the wealthy and powerful Claire Zachanassian returning to her hometown with the plan to donate a million dollars in exchange for the life of the man who wronged and jilted her in her youth, Alfred Ill. While the impoverished town at first refuses her offer, they eventually give into their need for money and execute Ill. Throughout the play, the author uses the characterizations of Claire to construct an allusion to the three fates from Greek mythology. The Greek fates are influential, immortal women who are in charge of controlling the lives and deaths of mortals, symbolized by a string. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many characterizations that Durrenmatt uses to construct the allusion including Claire s physical characteristics along with ones that correlate individually with each of the fates. Dürrenmatt alludes to these beings through Claire to compare and to contrast the beings. The fates are greatly powerful beings who are in a position within greek mythology to impose justice upon those who seek fit. By alluding them to Claire, Dürrenmatt is using their characteristics and capabilities to further characterize that Claire is as powerful as the fates and is also capable of imposing justice upon other humans. While the allusion shows that the two beings are alike in that they both have power over justice, it also highlights how the Claire and the fates both use their power differently. The fates use their power to control human lives because it is their duty with greek mythology and they do so in a just, unbiased manner. This is greatly contrasting to Claire who imposes her power over justice upon anyone who she deems fit based on her own unjust biases. Dürrenmatt uses this theme of unjust power to support the social commentary within his play about how although people of power and authority are generally seen as more just, this is not always true. This social commentary is used as a reflection upon the era of Dürrenmatt s youth, of which was greatly centered around World War Ⅱ. During World War Ⅱ there were many authoritative figures that were not seen as just in their actions but because of the position of power they obtained they were able to impose their justice upon others. • 3. Analyse the Methods Used by One Single Party State Ruler... Josef Stalin is known throughout Russia for his legendry use of terror, political manipulation and demanding policies who would stop at nothing to achieve his goals. However, the question of the legitimacy of his position as leader of the Bolshevik party still remains. Following the death of Lenin in 1924, a power vacuum developed within the Bolshevik party and it was clear that a leadership race between candidates had begun. Stalin was able to rise above men like Trotsky, Kamenev and Zinoviev to launch into new economic policies, collectivisation and industrialisation. The main key to Stalin s success in gaining power after Lenin s death was held in his alignment with the former hero of Russia, as well as his ability to plan, manipulate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He used this information to choose certain people to fill key positions who wouldn t oppose his policies. It created a solid mass of Stalin followers within the Bolshevik party who owed their posts to Stalin and dared not oppose him. These Stalinists became crucial sources of support during the mass purges of the party in later years. He had control over 700 party officials and the secret police, a necessary tool to gain control over the majority of the Bolshevik party and the purges that would later follow. Through this manipulation of elements within the communist party and even before Lenin s death, Stalin built up vast local and national bases of support. With this in mind, he could then use his power and influence to cut out any opposition. The power vacuum created by Lenin s death gave rise for many of Stalin s opposition to challenge his bid for power and leadership of the communist party. Leading up to Lenin s death, Trotsky and Stalin recognised they were the two main contenders to take over the position as leader of the Bolshevik party. Stalin started a campaign to discredit the ideological errors of his main rival for power. He rallied Kamenev and Zinoviev to isolate Trotsky, emphasising his Jewish background and disloyalty to the party as an ex Menshevik member. Trotsky s lack of devotion to the memory of Lenin further fuelled this anti Trotsky movement within the party. Stalin was a master of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Importance Of Deaf Education Whether someone responds to a person knocking on a door, a car honking down the street, or speakers blasting loud music, our hearing plays a significant role in providing us with vital information. Hence, hearing is an important sense, and the significance of hearing often goes underappreciated until it is no longer available (Saint Joseph s University, 2017). In spite of that, research proves that children who experience hearing loss must have opportunities to enjoy a quality of life that does not remind them of their disabilities, but experience a quality of life that makes necessary modifications to augment their abilities. It is fair to state that Deaf education evolved over a course of centuries, with Pedro Ponce de Leon making history as a pioneer teacher for students who were deaf. As a 16th century Spanish monk, Ponce de Leon received recognition for revolutionizing the education of children by creating one of the original manual alphabets (Saint Joseph s University, 2017) for speaking and fingerspelling. Concurrently, Geronimo Cardano joined the movement for Deaf education in 1550 by disclosing that hearing loss should not deny people opportunities to learn (Saint Joseph s University, 2017). With significant gains from Ponce de Leon s innovative system for communication, along with Cardano s experience as a father of a son who had a hearing disability, both individuals established themselves as credible sources proving that children are capable of learning by ... • 5. Essay about Darwin’s Dangerous Idea At the beginning of the 1800s, scientists knew of some kinds of fossils, and were very aware of homologous and vestigial structures. Many scientists suspected that some kind of evolution had given rise to living things around them. However, they had no theory to explain how evolution might have occurred. Two scientists led the way in the search for a mechanism of evolution. The first was Jean Lamarck. The second was one of the greatest figures in biology, Charles Darwin. What is evolution? Evolution is a change in the traits of living organisms over generations. Since the development of modern genetics in the 1940s, evolution has been defined more specifically as a change in the frequency of alleles in a population from one generation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Natural selection, together with the rules of inheritance discovered by Gregor Mendel, stand at the basis of modern evolutionary biology. Darwin was the British naturalist who became famous for his theories of evolution and natural selection. Like several scientists before him, Darwin believed all the life on earth evolved over millions of years from a few common ancestors. From 1831 to 1836 Darwin served as naturalist aboard the H.M.S. Beagle on a British science expedition around the world. In South America Darwin found fossils of extinct animals that were similar to modern species. On the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific Ocean he noticed many variations among plants and animals of the same general type as those in South America. The expedition visited places around the world, and Darwin studied plants and animals everywhere he went, collecting specimens for further study. Upon his return to London Darwin concluded thorough research of his notes and specimens many ideas. Out of this study grew several related theories: one, evolution did occur, two, evolutionary change was gradual, requiring thousands to millions of years, three, the primary mechanism for evolution was a process called natural selection, and four, the millions of species alive today arose from a single original life form through a branching process called specialization. • 6. A Raisin The Sun And Willy Loman Compare And Contrast Essay The striving for being rich and have a wealthy life has always been present in the American society. Often living in a capitalistic society leads people to become greedy, and as a result many become too materialistic. This may happen because of the challenge to pursue the American dream where most of Americans are trying to fulfill it. Unfortunately, for most of people it is very difficult to acquire this high status and to secure a spot in the upper class society. Arthur Miller s, Death of a Salesman, and Lorraine Hansberry s, A Raisin the Sun, are two plays that reveal two main characters: Willy Loman and Walter Lee Young, characters that reflect typical features of the people who struggles to achieve the American Dream. Although they may have common characteristics and share similarities, they also have numerous issues and are very different, setting them apart from other families and even each other. Therefore, the main focus of this paper will be to compare and put in contrast these two great characters. In both plays, A Raisin the Sun and Death of a Salesman, the father (Walter and Willy) is the main individual that holds his attention throughout the plays. Because of their roles are often changing in the plays, Walter and Willy can be the protagonist and the antagonist. That being said, they both have goals to possess their own business and to be their own boss. They both strive to live wealthy. As Walter says No...It was always money, Mama. We just didn t know about it (Hansberry). This reveals that Walter is more materialistic instead of considering the feeling of his family. Willy and Walter are very similar in many ways. For instance, they both are trying to be good fathers. Walter s goal to get rich is influenced by his restless desire to offer to his family a better life: You tired, ain t you? Tired of everything. Me, the boy, the way we live this beat up hole everything. Ain t you? (Discovering Literature, 1295). Meanwhile, the love that Willy has for his sons is undeniable. To those of you who may see Edwardian and Victorian art as not being particularly exciting, i would encourage you to try and look past this disinterest and get down to see the Painting with Light exhibition. The exhibition impressively manages to capture the development of art during the period in a way of which the disinterest of most is turned into intrigue and knowledge. The exhibition focuses on the relationship between painting and photography, the largely experimental period in which this developed coincided with the founding of the Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood. Paintings by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, John Everett Millais and John Singer Sargent are included (and personally i believe they are the highlights of the exhibition) are shown side by side with the photos they inspired and of subjects they drew inspiration from. The Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood was a secret society of the mid 19th century that sought to create a new form of British art. They strived to emulate art from the late medieval period, early renaissance till the of Raphael, striving to convey messages of artistic renewal and moral reform. This theme combined with Aesthetic and Impressionist works gives the richness in culture and a great span in examples that supply ample contextual and visual support for the idea the exhibition is conveying. The Effect Of Monetary Policy On Determination Of Coal Prices To examine the effect of monetary policy on determination of coal prices in the U.S., we rely on a dynamic framework of cointegrated vector autoregression (CVAR). The prerequisite requirement for the application of the CVAR approach is that the selected variables must be nonstationary (i.e., I(1) series). The presence of a unit root in the variables is thus tested using the Dickey Fuller generalized least squares (DF GLS) test (Elliott et al., 1996). Panel A of Table 1 reports the results of the DF GLS test. Since the null hypothesis of a unit root cannot (can) be rejected for any of the levels (first differences) of the three variables at the 5% level, all the series are found to be nonstationary I(1) processes. It should be emphasized, however, that because of inability of the DF GLS to capture the possibility of a structural break, the power of the test is likely to decrease with an undetected structural break in the series, thereby providing misleading results. For completeness, therefore, we investigate unit roots in the presence of a structural break using the Perron Vogelsang (PV) test. The results of the PV test are summarized in Panel B of Table 1. As seen in the DF GLS test, the null cannot (can) be rejected for all the levels (first differences) of the variables, confirming that all the three variables are I(1) series. Hence, it is certain that the underlying series are apparently all I(1) processes even after taking into account a structural break in the series, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

DISCUSS THE WAYS IN WHICH IAGO CONTROLS AND MANIPULATES TWO OTHER CHARACTERS IN OTHELLO Iago controls and manipulates many characters in Othello including Roderigo, Brabantio, Cassio, Emilia, Desdemona, and even Othello himself. I will only be looking at Cassio and Othello because the fate of Iago s plans rest in their actions, therefore he controls and manipulates them more than any of the other characters like Roderigo who is also manipulated by Iago for a lot of the play but I found the relationship between Othello, Cassio, and Iago more interesting because they are both his superiors so Iago has to be more careful with how he manipulates them. Othello s lieutenant, Cassio is a young and inexperienced soldier (we are told this in the beginning of the play when Cassio is first spoken of), whose high position is much resented by Iago. Truly devoted to Othello, Cassio is extremely ashamed after being implicated in a drunken brawl on Cyprus and losing his place as lieutenant. Iago uses Cassio s youth, good looks, and friendship with Desdemona to play on Othello s insecurities about Desdemona s fidelity. Iago controls Cassio for most of the play. It is important for Iago to control Cassio in the way that he does because it allows Iago to get exactly what he wants. Iago uses Cassio s faults to manipulate him, like Cassio s looks and his flirtatious personality to Cassio s own disadvantage because Iago gets Othello to think that Desdemona is having an affair with him. It all starts when he persuades Cassio to join in with the festive drinking even though Cassio has a weak alcohol tolerance level I have very poor and unhappy brains for drinking this shows that Iago can still persuade Cassio to drink a lot of alcohol even though he knows that he cannot take it. Iago implies that he and Cassio have the same friends which makes Cassio think that they are best friends; he does this by calling the other men our friends which implies that they too would be friends. The Drunk Bus Should Be Kept Around Essay The Drunk Bus Should Be Kept Around I remember hearing stories of such a thing called the drunk bus before I came to college, but I was not exactly sure what it was. I just figured the bus took a bunch of drunken college students to the bars when they wanted to go. Now that I am a first year student at State U, I understand I was not that far from the truth. Some say the bus should be taken away, but the fact of the matter is the bus is a necessity at college since there will always be drinking. Sober students ride the bus as well Not every person who gets on the bus is intoxicated. I have talked with many of my friends and they tell me that they hardly ever are intoxicated when they go on the bus, but the just want to have a good time and dance at the club. If students ask the bus driver, he will also make stops to local grocery stores such as Wal Mart and Hy Vee. I know many students that go on the bus just hang out at the bar to have fun, without drinking. Therefore, this shows how the bus has more than one use of just transporting drunken students. Students will always drink I read a very interesting book called Behind the Arch: The Truth about Drinking at Buena Vista University. This book explained how the Storm Lake, IA community feels that having the drunk Bus around only encourages students to drink. I think the community needs to realize if there were no bus to transport intoxicated students to and from the bars, the students only option would be to drive intoxicated, which should never happen. This has resulted in Interface reducing their 292 smoke stacks to 183. This is a 39% reduction in smoke stacks from their operations. A reduction in smoke stacks equals a reduction in pollutants and waste entering the earths atmosphere. As stated by Wang et al. Further looking into the aspect of reducing emissions, Interface has acknowledged that to prevent toxic emissions altogether we must go upstream and prevent those toxic substances from entering our factories in the first place. What comes in will go out as a product, waste or emission (Waage 2003, p. 23.). To sum this statement, prevention is better than cure. Without water we would not be able to life and Earth is therefore the only planet in this galaxy with life as we know it except for Mars where ice has been discovered so water may have been present once. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is this cohesion that allows water to travel up tree trunks to the highest branches on trees, if the cohesion was weaker the water would simply flow back down the xylem vessels due to gravity, therefore without this property of water tall trees and plants would die. This cohesion of the water creates a surface tension on the surface of water in for example, a pond. In a pond small insects such as pond skaters which are relatively dense can float on the water and live on the surface of the water. Without the tension such organisms would have no habitat and would die. Water also acts as a good temperature buffer to stabilise experiments within cells. Due to the hydrogen bonds produced bonds between the water molecules water is given the following properties relating to heat and temperature : 1. Relatively high heat capacity 2. Relatively large latent heat of vaporisation 3. Relatively large latent heat of fusion These three properties are very similar and basically mean that a relatively large amount of energy required to change the temperature or state of water. Inbreeding in the dog s lineage is one key point of the Pedigree that no one really talks about to the non showing potential owners; it is indicated by one dog being used to sire multiple lines of the family tree. The AKC does not discourage this and often it is difficult to recognize for a non showing owner. Many show breeders will not allow their puppies to be purchased by non show homes in an attempt to preserve their lines. According to A genetic assessment of the English bulldog , written by N. However, many show breeders believe that they must utilize a sire across more than one line within their pedigree to preserve the specific traits of the breed that make their bloodlines of champion quality. One could argue that in doing so, they are reintroducing certain predispositions back into their own bloodlines two fold; reinforcing what may be a defect of sorts in their own lines. Although we may not be able to feel or even see such gradual changes, we must try to aid our planet s longevity for future generations. A major problem that we face is the deterioration of Earth s atmosphere and climate change. Some believe that the problem could be fixed through geoengineering. Scientists and engineers have proposed many potential solutions with geoengineering, one being ocean fertilization. This idea suggests filling regions of the ocean with iron and other various nutrients where little biological production exists. This would increase phytoplankton activity that would take the carbon down deeper into the ocean. Ultimately, this could get rid of excess carbon when the phytoplankton die and fall to the ocean floor. Ocean fertilization, although it may have a few negative effects, could lower the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, thus slowing down Earth s natural heating process. Iron is one of the most important nutrients that are necessary for phytoplankton. This nutrient can be found short in supply where stratification has occurred in ocean waters. ... Although there are many experts who believe that this system would actually cause more damage and add more carbon than the amount it removes, the chances are very slim. The progression of arthrosclerosis, starts with an injury to the endothelial lining of the arteries, from such diseases as, hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes and smoking. The damage to the endothelial cells causes dysfunction and the area with endothelial cell inflammation draws leukocytes, cholesterol, vascular smooth muscle cells and other debris, the buildup creates atherosclerotic plaque deposits in areas on an artery wall causing an inflammatory process (Hoffman, 2007). Over time the buildup of plaque on the artery walls produces hardening of the vessel walls and blockages that slow the flow of blood throughout the body. Arthrosclerosis affects the heart, peripheral arteries and the carotid and cerebral arteries that supply blood flow to the brain (Arthrosclerosis, 2014).
