A Renewed Spirit of Discovery was the title of President Bush s speech for his
vision of new Space Exploration. Since the debate was given on January 14, 2004,
it has produced viable concerns from those who support and oppose the initiative.
Arguments for and against it have appeared in all types of media, and more
importantly in the minds of Americans. This Literature Review will discuss many of
these beliefs in order to achieve a well rounded, objective analysis of the issue. But
before any opinions are put forth, it is always important to talk about the relative facts.
Why put forth a new vision?
Over past 30 years, it is hard to say that we have explored space. It is more
appropriate to say we have conquered manned flight in Earth s lower orbit. Truly,
the Apollo Missions to the moon, which ended in the mid 70 s, was also the end to
Manned Space. We have continued to build satellites and space stations to orbit the
earth, and robots and satellites to explore Mars and Deep Space. By proposing to put
humans on the Moon and Mars, the President has not changed our manned space
exploration policy; he has created one.

the disposal of waste might have been just as evenly bad. How to dispose of the
accumulated waste was a problem that preoccupied the minds of countless reformers,
engineers, scientists, and amateur sanitarians, but the problem acquired a particular
urgency because the retention of waste in the city was associated with disease and

issues and it became evident that the sewage was so bad because no one knew

Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History The whole museum is
accessible online. It is deeply engaging experience that gives me a three
dimensional view of the museum. There is a map in the upper right area that helps
me move to anywhere in the virtual museum. There is also a camera button I can
click on, which gives me very close view of the exponents. Therefore, I am able to
clearly see the details of the exhibits. The zoom role is essential to getting the
maximum of this virtual museum as I can zoom in on anything I find interesting in
order to see it closer. The folding map and camera icon are making it easier for me
to search the museum than if I was physically present at the museum. The benefit of
the virtual museum is that I can explore exhibitions anytime and from anywhere

should be reduced to increase the number of students who achieve consistent

The philosopher John Locke once said, [g]overnment has no other end, but the
preservation of property ( John Locke ). The social contract is the fundamental basis
for modern government. This idea affects everything we believe a modern state
should represent for itself and its people. This way of understanding the role of
government was inspired by the writings of the Enlightenment era philosophers. This
way of understanding the role of the state and its people is significantly different from
what was believed in ancient Athens and Rome. The Enlightenment era philosophers
did more than just think of new ideas of government; their works not only inspired
changes during the 18th century, but also continued to shape modern governments.
While it is true that certain forms of democracy evolved in ancient Athens and Rome,
modern governments differ significantly from these ancient societies. In some cases,
the very words put forth by the philosophers were written directly into the
constitutions of countries practicing these new ideas. Without the contributions of
John Locke and other enlightenment philosophers, democracy and government as we
know it today would not exist.

Located in the Quad, standing tall is a building that represents critical and
memorable moments in history. The University of Alabama is home to the beautiful
Amelia Gorgas Library. This is where students can go study, relax, eat, check out
books, and socialize. The library was built in 1939 and is located at the site of the
first original library on campus. During the Civil War the original buildingwas known
as the Rotunda. It was a military school for the confederate army. In 1865 Rotunda
was burned down by troops sent to destroy the educational buildings on campus. In
its place Gorgas library was built. As you stand on the concrete steps looking down at
the semi circle court in front of Gorgas, there are remains from the original building.

Out of all the places to study and do homework here at Alabama, Gorgas is by far my
favorite. I have yet to experience any ghostly encounters but if I keep going there
enough hopefully I will have some of my own stories to tell one day. Being the
most eye catching building on campus Gorgas is hard to miss and hard to forget.
Its massive structure is supported out front by eight large concreate pillars. The
pillars are carved top to bottom with detail and complete the overall look of the
building. The main entrance of the building faces the center of the quad. The
concrete steps leading up to the front doors are often filled with students sitting out
enjoying the beautiful Alabama sun, and doing homework or waiting to meet up
with friends. All the students at the university love Gorgas and it is most definitely
being used to its full potential. Amelia Gorgas would be so proud to see what has
come of her library today and would be honored to see what success and joy it brings

Most people seem to think that racism in schools died years ago. This thought
could not be more wrong. Racism can be seen in schools now more than it ever has
been and it needs to be stopped because it affects the way students learn and their
success. The world is full of stories and incidents that have occurred involving
discrimination and the effects they have on students. This inequality and
unnecessary act called racism within many school systems can be dated back to
1896 to the Plessy V. Ferguson case which resulted in separate facilities for
education and an equal education (Campbell). This case is what provided us with
the term separate but equal , this meant that white and black children had to attend
separate schools but would supposedly get an equal education. Another case
addressing racism in education is the Cumming V. Richmond case in 1899. This
case involved three black families who petitioned the court to allow their children
to finish their high school education at a white high school, due to the closing of
the local black high school which would integrate African Americans and whites
under one facility (Campbell). Racial segregation and its unfairness even
continued into the 1950 s with the Sweatt V. Painter case involving an African
American, Homas Sweatt, who was being denied access to the University of Texas
Law School because he was black (Campbell). All of this unfair treatment of
separate but equal education continued until 1954 when one of the most popular
and familiar cases to all of us occurred, Brown V. Board of Education . In this case
a young girl from Kansas had to walk 21 blocks to the closet black only school
when a 2 White only school was only seven blocks away (Campbell). The court
ruled in Brown s favor and declared an end to racially segregated schools due to the

utilized slave labor in the construction of the pyramid. Evidence from Herodotus

Break of Day in the Trenches is by one of the First World War s leading war poets,
Isaac Rosenberg. Many often remember Rosenberg as a Jewish English poet, or a
poet of war, but there is more to his writing than what meets the eye. Rosenberg
died at the age of twenty eight in World War I on April 1, 1918. Critics often say that
Isaac was an impressive young poet and that his future was bright in the poetryworld.
It can be seen throughout his poems that Isaac incorporates a large amount of
symbolism and feeling into his pieces.
A primary focus for Rosenberg s poems is centered around the hardship and
struggle in war. For example, a few of his most famous poems including Dead Man
s Dump, On Receiving News of the War, Soldier: Twentieth Century and Break of
Day in the Trenches all incorporate the mentality of a soldier facing battle. It is easy
for an individual to talk about the thought of war and the struggle that a soldier
may face. Furthermore, Rosenberg wrote from his experience as a young man
going through such a horrific event, which allowed his readers to see what he saw,
feel what he felt, and undergo what he went through. He mastered this art form in
the early years of his life and shared his work with the world. In many cases, he
describes an object or occurrence and lets the description do most of the work.
Instead of using the rhyming schemes or more structural outlines of poetry, Isaac
approaches more of a free verse technique of writing in in his work. For example, in
