Tim Hortons Essay
1 OUR MOTIVATION Tim Hortons has been a symbol of Canada and an important memory for
Canadians. We can understand what an important role Tim Hortons plays by following evidences. Ten
cups of coffee sold in Canada, nearly eight cups are from Tim Hortons. And each year, Tim Hortons
serves 2billion cups of coffee. Moreover, there are 15% of Canadians, which is more than 5.3 million
people, visiting Tim Hortons every day. But Taiwanese are unfamiliar with this famous brand
including us, so we are interested about this successful Canadian corporation and how it went global.

Considering the products they provided, Dunkin Donuts was the toughest and the only rival for Tim
Hortons. Since the market was not yet fully saturated, Tim Hortons did not have to compete with the
other food service which provided different category of foods. Despite the fact that Tim Hortons was a
late mover in the US market, it was reasonable that Tim Hortons believed that with the leading
position in Canada, it could expand its business to the US. 4.4 ENTRY MODE With Ron Joyce s
strategy, Tim Hortons expanded quickly in both geography and product selection. In 1981, it already
had successfully opened almost 150 outlets in Canada, and became the leading chain in Canada. It
even resulted in the major changes to the coffee and donut restaurant market in Canada. Tim Hortons
thus confidently believed that the expanding strategy could fit well even in the US market, where the
geographical distance was close and the culture seemed to be quite similar to that of Canada.
Moreover, most of the popular food service at that time entered a foreign market, especially from the
US to Canada, with a wholly owned subsidiary. Especially when Dunkin donuts and Mister Donuts
brought in the donut culture successfully and McDonald even became one of the leading food service
in Canada. Entry Time Entry Mode A W 1956 Wholly owned Subsidiary Mister Donuts 1961 Wholly

How Does Assimilation Affects Individual Identity
How many technological devices do you use daily? In this day and age, the list would probably
include smart phones, laptop computers, tablets, or more, but do you know where these devices were
made? Even if your device was assembled locally, there is a good chance that the parts inside come
from a collaboration of companies working together from all over the globe that are part of the global
supply chain. For the last few decades, more and more companies rely on outsourcing, to produce
their products and to provide services. Which in effect has globalized our world, and depends on
countries being able to collaborate and work together to provide the products and services demanded
by the customers at the end of the supply chain. As an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this global supply chain and the flattening of the world is raising the standards of living of
the people in developing nations, one must contemplate what is also being stripped away from these
people in return for the increase in wealth. While assimilating to the customs and values of the western
world might seem necessary for these countries to be able to work together and communicate, this
assimilation affects individual identity as well as national identity. The assimilation required by global
supply chains strips countries, such as India, of their cultural heritage and requires workers to
Westernize and cover their true identities in order to work in the jobs that will raise their standard of
living. Therefore, despite the positive economic effects that assimilation has on developing countries,
the negative effects on culture and individuals the stripping away of identity and self are points often
overlooked and are damaging to the countries and individuals that are stuck in limbo in between
identities. When assimilation plays in conjunction with The Dell Theory, it becomes a positive
arrangement because countries involved with the global supply chain are more hesitant to go to war
with each other. The countries in the supply chain are obligated to come to mutual understandings, in
which they cooperate with each other, regardless of their differences; otherwise, they risk losing their
position in the supply chain. This confirms what Yoshino says

Semi Truck Collision
A high speed collision with any vehicle can be devastating. However, a high speed collision of a car
with a semi truck often has a grim outcome for the motorist. The rear underride guards of semi trailers
don t offer much in the way of a crumple zone for absorbing impact energy.
Damaged or rusted guards offer virtually no protection at all. In addition, hitting one at an offset (with
the front left or right side of your car) causes severe damage to the car and may demolish the area
occupied by the driver or right front passenger. Finally, a high speed collision with the side of a trailer,
which lacks an underride guard, can shear off the top half of a car.
How do these car/truck accidents happen? Often when the semi truck is invisible. In ... Show more

Fog obscures clear visual references that you rely on to judge speed, and produces the illusion of
going too slow. This phenomenon, combined with an impaired ability to judge distance, can cause a
fatal delay in applying the brakes when you do sense that you re closing in on a truck. Slow down and
keep an eye on your speedometer. Don t out drive the distance that you can see in front.
Trucks with Dirty Trailer Lights and Reflectors
Without working lights or reflectors, the trailer of a semi truck at night is invisible. It s rare for a
trucker to drive around with all of his trailer lights burnt out. On the other hand, lights and reflectors
covered in dirt, mud, or salt are more common. Dirt covered lights and reflectors are just as hazardous
as not having them at all.
What appears to be an oncoming semi truck in the opposite lane could be a truck pulling into the lane
from a side road to your right. The lights you see are the tractor s headlights in the opposite lane. What
you don t see is the invisible trailer crossing your path in front of you. Here is an animated simulation
of this with a truck pulling a flatbed

Developers Conference Essay
The Game Developers Conference is held every year in San Francisco, with its dates being set for
March 19th to the 23rd of 2018. This conference is the largest and most important conference for
those in the Gaming Industry, and also it is known for its exceedingly high pass prices. The GDC was
first held in April of 1988, about 29 years ago. This first meeting consisted of 25 people in one room
discussing the future of computer gaming and learning from each other. Each year after the first, the
attendance numbers drastically grew and continue to this day.

groups are seeing it through to help students see that attending the GDC is not just a dream, but it can
easily become a reality. The Game Developers Conference gives students the opportunity to work for
them in order to attend the conference. These students would work as Conference Associates, working

Biology Reflection
As the bell rung for the end of first period, I gathered my things and began to walk to my second
period class, Biology. Biology was always to me the hardest subject I had ever dealt with because
there was so much to learn, study, and truly understand. I walked through the door into the classroom
and I ll never forget the words I heard my teacher say that caught me so off guard. Get out your notes
and study because you have a test today , he said. As I heard him finish his sentence, my eyes widen
and I quickly moved towards my seat and began to skim over my notes as fast as I could. I had
completely forgot that I had a test in biology.
While reading over my notes, I kept thinking to myself that I just knew I was going to fail this test.
After a couple of minutes of studying, I heard the teach yell 5 more minutes . I began to skim even
faster over my notes. It felt like time was moving so fast because when I heard my teach yell times up
, it seemed as if only 2 minutes had passed by. He passed out the answer sheet around the classroom
and instructed us to fill out our student ID numbers. I looked over the unfilled answer sheet and
counted the amount of questions. There were 30 questions in total which frightened me even more
because I had to answer 30 questions on information that I barely studied. Then he handed out the test
and I became extremely nervous because not only did I barely study and there were 30 multiple choice
questions, but the classroom was so cold that

Daughter Of Smoke And Bone Summary
Reading Response #3: Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Making Connections Questioning
Daughter of Smoke and Bone is a fantasy book written by author Laini Taylor.
On the back of the book, as well as in the official plot summary, DOSAB is described as a story of
angels and demons, so I expected something about Heaven, Hell, etc. I typically don t enjoy books
based on religious mythology, but I had heard some good things about DOSAB, so I decided to give it
a shot. Based on the synopsis I had read, I was prepared for a book that fell into the same categories as
the disastrous Hush, Hush and Fallen series . The category being: Books I Have Read But Will Live
Until My Dying Day Swearing Up And Down I Never Touched. Other notable books in this category
include The Uglies series and Twilight.
Needless to say, my expectations were not high, but they could have been as tall as the CN Tower and
DOSAB would still have blown me away. Laini Taylor s beautiful writing strips the overused angel
and demon trope down to its bare bones and spins it into something new. Morphing it into its own
enthralling genre. To say this book is all about angels and demons would be a severe injustice. To say
this book is all about the mythology would be an injustice. This book is about growing up, prejudice,
truth, overcoming hardship and war. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

so many implications and subplots, that I had to take a moment after reading to comprehend
everything. My mind was so overrun, that for the first time I wasn t comprehending what I was

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) ADHD and its diagnosis and treatment have been
considered controversial since the 1970s. The controversies have involved clinicians, teachers,
policymakers, parents and the media. Opinions regarding ADHD range from not believing it exists at
all to believing there are genetic and physiological bases for the condition as well as disagreement
about the use of stimulant medications in treatment. Some sociologists consider ADHD to be a classic
example of the medicalization of deviant behavior, defining a previously non medical problem as a
medical one. Most healthcare providers in U.S. accept that ADHD is a genuine disorder with debate in
centering mainly around how it is diagnosed and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With regard to genetic studies, research has demonstrated the fact that genetic influences are involved.
Family studies, molecular genetics, and twin studies have explained the familial nature of ADHD.
Regarding family studies, there is a high probability of a child being diagnosed with the disorder if the
siblings or parents are also affected. In addition, about 33.3% of fathers who in their childhood had
ADHD are likely to bear children who have the disorder. This is an indication that among first degree
relatives of affected parents or siblings, there is a 6 8X risk of an ADHD relative to the prevalence of
ADHD in the general population. Further evidence has been obtained from twin studies by comparing
the rate of concordance between monozygotic (MZ) and dizygotic (DZ) twins. All of the genes are
shared in the case of MZ twins whereas in DZ twins only 50% of segregating genes are shared on
average. A study that involved comparing the rate of concordance between the two types of twins
revealed that among MZ twins, the rate of concordance ranged between 58% and 82%. For the same
sex in DZ twins, the rate was 31% 38%. These results provided more evidence to the heritable nature
of ADHD. However, the fact that the rate of concordance in MZ twins was less than 100% in all the
studies conducted implies the involvement of environmental components in the aetiology of ADHD.
Several environmental factors

Colonial America, New England, Middle Colonies
Colonial America is separated into three groups, New England, Middle Colonies, and the South. New
England consisted of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Its colder than
the other colonies, and made up of mountains, and rivers. The cold weather had a great effect on how
houses in the New England colonies were built. The houses were normally plain rectangle 2 story
houses, with a basement. The second story normally jutted out over the first floor, which kept the
snow from piling up outside the door, which could have prevented the inhabitants from being able to
leave their house. The basements were cold, and they colonists kept food located there. The fireplace
was built in the middle of the house on both the first and second floors, which helped heat up the
house quicker, and keep it warm. The roofs were tilted to allow snow to slide off. Its soil was very
rocky, which made it very difficult for them to grow any crops. Its proximity to the ocean made
fishing and ship building the main source of income. Women were also tin makers. The religion of this
colony was Puritan, with the exception of Rhode Island. Puritans were very strict with themselves, and
didn t allow any other types of religions. They believed in schools, so everyone would be able to read
the bible. The had a set of rules called the Blue Laws, which was printed on blue paper. An example of
a Blue Law, is that alcohol cannot be bought on Sundays, and it can t be bought after a certain

Red Wheelbarrow By William Carlos Williams Paradoxes And...
The relationship between language and meaning is an important concept in literature and in particular
poetry. This relationship is shown through the poems The Red Wheelbarrow by William Carlos
Williams (1923) and also Paradoxes and Oxymorons by John Ashbery (1981). In The Red
Wheelbarrow , Williams uses many poetic features of language such as assonance and imagery whilst
John Ashbery uses predominantly direct address and also poetic fetters such as enjambment. The two
poems, at first may not seem to have connections nor similarities, however one poetic feature neither
use is a rhyme scheme and also both poets seem to want to involve the reader in some way such as
Williams encourages us to use our imagination to find meaning. Similarly Ashbery suggests that
without a reader, no meaning can be made of, or interpreted from the poem. The Red Wheelbarrow by
William Carlos Williams is a single sentence poem separated into four couplets. The poem itself

The poem itself is constructed of a single sentence that s been broken up into four couplets. The
opening line may imply that so much depends upon each line of the poem itself, in terms of gaining an
understanding of the meaning. This line is also an important feature in the poem as it also enforces the
idea to the reader that so much depends upon the wheelbarrow itself and yet forces the reader to
think about what depends upon the red wheelbarrow (Mcdonald:2005:pg 78). Due to the lack of
punctuation in the poem, and also the simplicity and shortness of the poem, means that as a reader we
must make and find meaning in what little the poem gives us to find it, hence so much depends on
what the poet gives us in order for the language used to create

Methods of Evangelism
Part ONE Evangelistic Method #1
Of the two evangelistic intellectual methods, I have chosen to research the Four Spiritual Laws. Bill
Bright wrote, Just as there are physical laws that govern how the physical universe, so are there
spiritual laws that govern your relationship with God. This method is most used in presenting the
Gospel to someone because it is simpler. Bill Bright, the founder of Campus Crusade for Christ,
originally wrote this as a booklet. This booklet was designed to help individuals to be more effectual
in their witness for Jesus. The Four Spiritual Laws are used to convict, convince, and convert. The
Laws are as followed:
Law 1: God ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is the most effective way of winning souls. This method should be used on people, whom one
interact with the most, people who know someone and see them on a regular basis. Lifestyle
evangelism creates a nurturing environment to extend an invitation to Christ. This means an
unbeliever will feel a sense of belonging before becoming a believer. Research has shown that a non
believer would be likely to give a believer the opportunity to share their faith, when the believer s life
has proven that their words are sincere, and life altering. In this way, the non believer would feel a
sense of worth before they expose themselves to the Inspired Word.
There are some advantages to using the Lifestyle Relational method. In particular, the Father sent
Jesus to be the absolute light, to be an example, and demonstrate how people of God should live. We
should be living proof that Our Father is who he says he is; that Christ truly is the Son who freed
people from slavery to self; and that the Holy Spirit honestly can transform our life. This is truly an
advantage affirmation. This example of showing is not a substitute for telling. If words were all we
used to explain the gospel, then people would never understand it enough to submit to Jesus.
However, showing a person is a necessary preparation for telling. People will always buy into your
words when your actions back them up. We must live a life that

Susan Blackmore The Memes Machine
Susan Blackmore s idea of memetics is controversial because not many believe it is scientific at all. A
meme is an idea, behavior, style, or usage that spreads from person to person within a culture
(Blackmore, 7). Blackmore describes this as singing Happy Birthday to someone or a handshake could
be a meme. A meme is a form of imitation. I say a form of it because Blackmore points out some
differences between the two. The idea of memes is criticized by scientists because they do not feel like
memes are able to comply with the scientific method and prove to be a theory in the ways that they
see fit. Throughout the book Blackmore makes valid points about how memes have coexisted with
evolution, which indeed would make the memetics a science. ... Show more content on

This is defined as imitation from one person to another. Humans are capable of imitation from birth.
Children are taught from imitation, more specifically memes. According to Charles Darwin s Theory
of natural selection, creatures evolve because adaptations in the environment change and the offspring
of these species survive and better adapt, which is evolution. Blackmore then refers to the
evolutionary algorithm as described by Dennett. Evolution in general in the science world relies on
three requisites variation, selection, and heredity. The algorithm solely relies on something being
copied and this is referred to by Dawkins, as a replicator. Specifically, a replicator relies on something
being copied. It is defined as any unit of information which is copied with variations or errors, and
whose nature influences its own probability of replication (Blackmore,

A Broadway Dream Book Analysis
Picture it. Broadway during the 1920s. Florenz Ziegfeld produces a revue called Ziegfeld s Follies.
Girls appear in elaborate costumes bordering on the risque. Gangsters are running rampant from Al
Capone to Bugs Moran to Machine Gun Kelly. This is the world in which Agnes Bobbie Storey finds
herself.
Agnes family lived in Leaholme until the war nearly closed their inn, forcing them to find work in
London. Shortly afterward, her father dies of Spanish Influenza, and Agnes is forced to find a job to
help support her family. She manages to land a job at a restaurant belonging to a friend of her father. It
is here that she wins The Most Beautiful Barmaid in London contest. This sparks Andre Charlot to
offer her a spot in his revue that is traveling to Broadway. She immediately accepts, thus beginning
her love affair with fame, success, and New York City.
A Broadway Dream by Jane Hill is a fiction based on the historical person by the name of Bobbie
Storey. Amazon has this correctly classified as historical fiction or biographical fiction; however, it
was incorrectly classified as romance on OBC. The book is fairly short with only about 200 pages.
It may seem odd, but my favorite part of this story was the ending. I am not familiar with the history
of the 1920s nor the life of Bobbie Storey. Therefore when I read the ending, I was actually taken
aback. To me, the ending contributed to the reality of the story. It s unfortunate that I cannot share this
ending, but I

A Manifesto For Cyborgs By Donna Haraway
In A Manifesto for Cyborgs: Science, Technology, and Socialist Feminism in the 1980s, Donna
Haraway gives an introduction to cyberfeminism and argues that there should be a new way to view
the world and the issues that are currently faced The ironic political myth faithful to feminism,
socialism, and materialism would ultimately be the cyborg (2190). The cyborg has no origin,
therefore, it can understand the world without bias. Haraway discusses three important boundaries that
support her main ideas throughout her essay.
The boundary between human and animal is Haraway s way of saying that humans and animals are
the same and should not be put into separate categories. The cyborg can think beyond the thought of
humans and animals separately and view them as one species. The boundary between animal human
and machine is used to describe the way Haraway views machines. Machines were lifeless.
Nevertheless, machines have advanced beyond belief and there is no longer a distinction between
humans and machines. Lastly, Haraway discusses the boundary between the physical and the non
physical with an example of televisions. Televisions use light. Nonetheless, no one can actually touch
light so therefore the line between the physical and non physical is distorted. ... Show more content on

Comparing Love In The Canterbury Tales
Love in The Knight s Tale, Wife of Bath s Tale, and Franklin s Tale
The Canterbury Tales, written by Geoffrey Chaucer around 1386, is a
collection of tales told by pilgrims on a religious pilgrimage. Three of these
tales; The Knight s Tale , The Wife of Bath s Tale , and The Franklin s Tale ,
involve different kinds of love and different love relationships. Some of the
loves are based on nobility, some are forced and some are based on mutual
respect for each partner. My idea of love is one that combines aspects from each
of the tales told in The Canterbury Tales.
In The Knights Tale , the love between the two knights and Emily is
intensely powerful. The love that Palomon and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Similarities Between Allport And Maslow Essay
Introduction Psychological trauma generally originates within a more physiological aspect of one s
life. Such is the case for actor Charlie Sheen; the title of actor suffices to say that he already had a
fairly interesting life, as he dealt with a massive blow to his own personal identity. The incident
effectively severed the progression that Charlie had made toward self actualization. Self actualization
being a term utilized by the psychological theorist Abraham Maslow, who suggested that a person has
a hierarchy of needs that must be satisfied before one can truly complete themselves as a person.
Furthermore, his incident also made him backtrack in the sense of Allport s development stages as he
lost touch with what was truly important to him in some regards. The similarities between Allport and
Maslow will serve to prove how certain events in one s life can stop a freight train in the metaphorical
sense.
Sheen s Life From a young age, Sheen had been encouraged to go into acting and took up his first
appearance in film at the age of nine as an extra in The Execution of Private Slovik. Consequently, his
interest in academia was minimal to say the least and resulted with him being expelled from high
school a few weeks prior to receiving his diploma. Afterwards, he went on to performing small time
movie roles until a major breakthrough with the movie Platoon. Multiple successes occurred from that
point forward, allowing him to engage in the more lavish lifestyle of a

business skills and entrepreneurship. London, as the world s fashion capital, is the best place to learn
the arts and has many top art colleges (Fashion.telegraph.co.uk, 2015). This contributed to the fashion
industry having a large number of graduates and new resources each year. However, the high tuition
fees are not making the fashion industry easily accessible to all of the students. Among them, some of
the art students who want to venture into it but there unable to meet the requirements on business
knowledge and experience(The Business of Fashion, 2015). Therefore, it s essential for students to
have the necessary background knowledge in business, in order for at students to expand their
knowledge and understand, which will help them develop their personal career.
1.2 Research Aim, Questions and Objectives
This study s objective to understand the needs of art students. The main research question is concerned
with the art student profession, career planning and entrepreneurship issues, to see whether or not they
are feasible for the actual research process. In addition, the ultimate aim is to identify and

Kennedy Conspiracy In Vietnam
II. Conspiracies i. Military industrial complex In the farewell speech given by U.S. President Dwight
D. Eisenhower when he left office, he warned the nation about the power of the military establishment
and the arms industry. In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of
unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential
for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists, and will persist. Some conspiracy theorists have
argued that Kennedy planned to end the involvement of the United States in Vietnam, and was
therefore targeted by those who had an interest in sustained military conflict, including the Pentagon
and defense contractors. Former Texas Senator Ralph Yarborough in 1991 stated: Had Kennedy lived,
I think we would have had no Vietnam War, with all of its traumatic and divisive influences in
America. I think we would have escaped that. According to author James Douglass, Kennedy was
assassinated because he was turning away from the Cold War and seeking a negotiated peace with the
Soviet Union. Douglass argued that this was not the kind of leadership the CIA, the Joint Chiefs of
Staff, and the military industrial complex wanted in the White House. Oliver Stone s film, JFK,
explored the possibility that Kennedy was killed by a conspiracy involving the military industrial
complex. L. Fletcher Prouty, Chief of Special Operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Kennedy,

Irony In The Story Of A Good Little Boy
How would you feel if you tried you re hardest to be good but only had bad things happen to you? It
simply wouldn t seem fair. This was the case for Jacob Blivens whom, The Story of the Good Little
Boy was fictionally about. Try as he might nothing works out in the end for Jacob which is a lesson
we all could learn from. You can do your best to achieve something but it doesn t mean that in the end
it will work out how you want it to. Twain s opinion that Jacob lives his life for an unrealistic dream
comes out in his use of diction, characterization, and irony.
The story starts by explaining how Jacob has always tried his hardest to be a good little boy like in the
Sunday school books he reads. It gives you many instances of this but instead of the praise Jacob is
seeking, he always ends up in trouble, normally because the situation is misunderstood. In the end it
takes this to the extreme with Jacob trying to undo what some bad boys did and dies tragically,
without saying the last words he had prepared.
The setting is important because back in the days when this story was written, children s books were
more just Sunday school tales. These stories would talk about little boys who followed all Gods
commandments and were good all their lives. Unfortunately, these stories also tended to end with the
young boys dying. In the story it says that,
It made him feel a little uncomfortable sometimes when he reflected that the good little boys always
died. He loved to live, you

Creating A Wordpress Website Step
Creating a WordPress website Step By Step Guide What is WordPress? WordPress is an open source
tool that is used to create and maintain websites. Open source is software whose source code is
available for modification or enhancement. WordPress is very easy to use and maintain. It is used by
both large, small, and independent companies as well an individuals. There are many large companies
that use WordPress, CNN, TED, UPS, and NBC sports just to name a few. Installing WordPress is
quite simple, and the installation only takes a few minutes. WordPress is a content management
system. The term sounds really technical, but all it means is it s a system used to manage the content
of a Web site. Thus you can have more than just a blog. Sounds pretty cool, huh? For installation
instructions go to https://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Famous_5 Minute_Install and
install WordPress on your site. Today I am going to show you how to customize a WordPress site and
get it up and running. I decided to do these simple instructions, because I have not noticed a simple set

Andrew Carnegie and the Rise of Big Business
Andrew Carnegie was the pioneering tycoon of the 19th century. From his companies emerged the
steel to build the infrastructures such as railroads, bridges, automobiles, and ships that would build a
nation in need of direction. He was a major player in the transformation into the Industrial Revolution
producing the steel to make machinery and transportation possible. Carnegie built his empire from
cost control, low prices, low profits, and high volume to make himself the richest man in the world. In
his philanthropic stage of life, he became the world s beneficiary to education, as he is responsible for
the construction and donation of thousands of libraries in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next investment Carnegie joined was with William Coleman in the oil business. They made a
substantial amount of money but Carnegie grew tired of the messy and chaotic state of the business
and sold out in 1865. In 1862 Carnegie joined a number of Pennsylvania Railroad managers to start
the Keystone Bridge Company. Carnegie had been convinced that the trend in railroading was towards
heavier locomotives and cars and longer trains in order to increase productivity. This is where many of
the old wooden bridges were converted into sturdier, iron and steel bridges. Carnegie quit the
Pennsylvania Railroad in 1865 both to concentrate on the bridge business and to pursue investments.
Iron Business:
Carnegie made his first investment in iron in 1861 when he invested in a local iron company. Carnegie
and three partners later founded the Cyclops Iron Works in Pittsburgh in October of 1864. Right away
Carnegie introduced a new method to the iron industry. Carnegie s aim was to ensure a reliable and
cheap supply of iron beams and plates. He was able to control all aspects of the iron business and
create an almost monopoly. This way of business was also called vertical integration. His training on
the Pennsylvania railroad proved crucial. With the high fixed costs of railroading, to make money it
was essential to have a good cost accounting system. Once the costs were known, Carnegie would

What Is A Important Lesson Essay
Lessons, They re many of them that we need to and can learn about in life even if they seem pointless.
Well I learned a very important lesson back when I was young I think it s still very important to this
day. I m in 4th grade and I was still young and didn t know a lot of things during that time and also
thought like most kids that school was miserable and just wanted to get through the whole day. It s
about time to go when our teacher announces that we are going to be learning about bicycle safety
tomorrow and if we have our own bicycle we can bring it. My head perked up and I was paying a little
attention to what she was saying and it sounded a little interesting to me but there was a problem with
this. I had my own bicycle but the only thing is I didn t know how to ride it well more like I didn t
know how to keep my self balanced. Since I didn t know how to keep myself balanced on a bike I
decided that I wouldn t bring a bicycle and just walk through the lesson but I had a heavy feeling in

that we should continue. A couple of tries later I decided to just go down the slope one last time and
saying in my head I can do it I began to fall one way but then began to slope up and there I was
balanced instead of flopped over on the ground. I had a warm little tingle in my chest knowing that I
had accomplished something big for myself but still needed to do this while peddling. I continued to

The Effects Of Co2 On The Permeability Of Indian...
Introduction
In the storage of CO2 in the deep geologic reservoirs for enhancing extraction of coalbed methane
area, Vishal et al. argue against the consequences of CO2 injection on the permeability of Indian
bituminous coal at different confining and injection pressure.
The major approach of the journal is to clarify about when and how would the incensement of
injection pressure have impact on the permeability of coalbed methane.
As a final year Civil Engineering student, I found this journal is educational and inspiring. The
research shows a comprehensive explanation of how pressure and stress of permeability of coal to sub
critical CO2 is tested.
Summary
In order to reduce greenhouse gases, Vishal et al. is investigating a ... Show more content on

The effective stress is proportional to the confining pressure and pore pressure. Results, a trend of
exponential decline in permeability with increasing effective stress is observed. During the passage of
CO2 through the coal sample, the gas is absorbed, which cause volume deformation.
The journal concluded that the reduction in permeability of coal maybe attributes to the role of coal
matrix expansion. CO2 gets preferentially adsorbed onto the surface of the coal. At the same time,
adsorption induces swelling at the time of coal exposure to the gas. The increase of injection of gas
will cause the decline in permeability is belongs to the fracture spacing is not completely closed and
the movement of gas cause swelling. However, the closure of fractures, a flow with increase
permeability at higher injection pressure occurs at the highest confining pressure.. This is because the
opening of fracture by increases the fracture apertures and this can enable easier flow (The University
of Alabama. College of Continuing Studies, College of engineering, 2004).
Evaluation
The information is relatively accurate, as there will be always variables about the geological
conditions. For instance, the selected sample area is Jharia, the results obtained are respected to a
certain area, but it is different to the whole area of Jharia. In the meantime, the detail of geological
information is necessary for the testing, but there are only limited investigations are available for the

Auguste Rodin The Thinker Summary
The Thinker by Auguste Robin is set to represent the Human man. It s very positioning symbolizes the
very embodiment of a simple thought. In his lifetime, Rodin made at least 10 castings of The Thinker .
However, that number has grown to over 21. You can find them all over the world, from the Rodin
Museum in Paris to the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, Calif., to the Rodin Museum at the
Philadelphia Museum of Art. Many of the bronze copies, as well as the original plasters for this piece,
have been displayed in a central position so that visitors can see it from every conceivable angle. A
marvel of the creative world. The style which Auguste Rodin developed throughout his professional
life can in part be attributed to his artistic education or the lack of it in any formal capacity. The
Thinker by Auguste Rodin is set to represent the Human man.
Rodin s choice to make his Thinking Man nude to follow in the style of the heroic nudes of
Michelangelo and his Renaissance style of Sculpting. Also, Auguste Rodin created The Thinker in a
way that mirrors the heroes of Michelangelo. The nude figure is muscular, taunt, and valiant. This
demonstrates to the viewer the high regard with which Rodin held Dante and creative thinkers in
general. The way the body is placed is how the body was cast. Sitting and thinking with his entire
body. Designed as the total thinking machine. A visual document of a thought. When Rodin cast The

The Old Private Pension System
The old private pension system was created in the 1920 s and expanded throughout the 30 s and 40 s
(McDonnell). Private pensions were considered one of the three income sources for retired elderly.
Originally, private pensions had defined benefits. The employer and employee would agree to a
percentage of salary that the employee would receive from the company annually during retirement.
Contractually obligated, this placed the liability onto the employer. Estimates say that employees
could receive around 40% of their last year s salary as annual income with defined benefits. In the
1990 s, the pension plans gradually changed from defined benefits to defined contribution. The
employees, rather than negotiating retirement salary now determine the amount of their salary that will
be saved in a retirement fund. Retirement income is a burden on the employee rather than employer
(Ghilarducci 8). In order to equal the income of the old plans, employees give their retirement savings
to mutual funds that invest in the stock market. While a key aspect of retirement, the system has
evolved like most economic institutions, favoring the wealthy and established. Furthermore, the
private pension system contributes to a market bubble, putting money into the stock market regardless
of market strength. These two problems cause the modern pension system to be flawed and unstable.
The program must undergo drastic reform in order to save private pensions. It is evident that the
current pension

Future Development of Telepathology
With telemedicine becoming so popular in the healthcare system, it is not surprising that telepathology
is also becoming more and more popular. Technology has been, and continues, to improve on a regular
basis. Telepathology is not a new concept in the telemedicine arena. Even with the wide availability to
doctors and physicians, there has been a slow adoption of telepathology in everyday practice. High
operating and maintaining costs used to be the main reason physicians gave for not accepting
telepathology, but now most of the negative attitudes are contributed to the lack of education and clear
guidelines (Cross, 2002, p. 14) for new incorporators of telepathology. There is no secret that the
current system has problems, including incompatibility within systems, and the expensive
microscopes that are dedicated to telepathology, but future developments are being researched and
produced to help offset the high costs. Low cost internet solutions, videoconferencing, integrated
digital pathology workstations, and virtual microscopes are just a few of the developments in the
works. Low Cost Internet Solutions One of the most ideal situations for the future of telepathology
would be the creation of one universally compatible system that wouldn t require expensive
microscopes to be dedicated exclusively for the field of pathology (Cross, 2002). Professor Peter
Purness and Dr Jeremy Rashbass researched the vision described above. They discovered that creating

Fountain of the Four Rivers. At the center of the Fountain contains the Egyptian layer of the obelisk
that was ordered to be placed in the middle by the Pope Innocent X s (Pamphil)i family. Moreover, the
obelisk with the Christian symbol represents the church s power and authority. The Fountain of the
Four Rivers is dedicated to the four rivers the Danube, Nile, Ganges, and the Rio de la Plata. The
Danube River represents the river closest to the papal city through the figure touching Pope s personal
coat of arms. The Nile River is represented by a figure covering its face, which represents that no one
knew where the source was from. The Ganges figure is holding an oar that represents the river s
navigability. Lastly, the Rio de la Plata is sitting on gold, which symbolizes the America s possibilities
for wealth for Europe. In addition, the la Plata figure is fearful of a snake, which represents the fear
that the money could be stolen. It is rumored that Bernini put the la Plata figure in front of his rival s
(Borromini) church, Sant Agnese due to being fearful of his rival. Moreover, this work represents the
baroque style by being very theatrical and making the viewer walk around the entire statue. This work
symbolized the epitome of drama and theatrical style during the baroque era, which can be seen

Italian Baroque And The Protestant Baroque Styles
The Baroque era spans a period of 150 years. During this time, baroque art had four distinct styles. I
plan to focus on the Italian Baroque and the Protestant Baroque styles. While these styles share some
similarities, they are also very different. The Italian Baroque style is often ornate and focused on
religion with an emphasis on the need for the church s guidance. The Protestant Baroque style is plain
with no obvious religious messages and less need for guidance from the church. Both styles contain
many amazing pieces of artwork, but I plan to focus on Bernini s Baldacchino and Vermeer s Woman
Holding a Balance.
The Italian Baroque style of art was established by the Catholic Church to bring individuals focus
back to the church. This is also known as Counter Reformation. The artwork was often very elaborate,
large in scale, showed movement and contained religious objects that glorified the Catholic Church
(Armstrong). Another trademark of this time was the ability of the artwork to evoke emotions
(Hollander). It was their attempt to show people they must lean on the church to be successful. If there
is one piece of art that displays all of these characteristics perfectly, it is the Baldacchino by Bernini.
This is a magnificent piece that one could stare at for hours and probably not take in all of the details.
The scale of the Baldacchino is enormous. The Baldacchino is located in St. Peter s Basilica and made
of bronze and stands ninety three feet high

we have arrived at Elon. I remember when we all first met and barely knew each other s names and
now we were able to trust one another while being blindfolded at the ropes course. While at the ropes
course, I learned to traits about myself that I sort of already knew. One trait being that I tend to let

Monty Python And The Holy Grail
The film Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a parody of Arthurian stories. It is a film that is not very
elaborate on special effects, costumes and such as it even includes invisible horses with coconuts to
mimic the sound of the galloping horses. All which indicate the low budget set on the production of
the film. Although, the quality of the film does not suffer with it s low budget since this adds
uniqueness and more comical pieces to the film. The concepts triggered in the film come from
elements of the Arthurian legends. The elements are concepts related to the education, health of the
time, code of chivalry, divine rights, Christianity and social division.
The film opens with a scene where King Arthur is discussing with his guard the use of coconuts for
the sound of the horses. This leads to an argument of how the coconuts arrived to England since they
come from a tropical zone. The guard and King Arthur decide to make up reasons and come to an
elaborate yet very confusing answer that in reality does not clear the dilemma. This scene can be
related to the education of the medieval times, which was very low and explanations came from
sumptuous fabrications. In addition, many of the Arthurian legends have details that are somewhat
unfit or unrealistic and portray that believe of what is not possible. One example of this is the battle
with the Green Knight whom was decapitated and still continued to live. This can also be connected to
the unrealistic scene in the film

Political Corruption By Government Officials For...

corruption by government officials for illegitimate personal gain. Corruption used to be a low profile
line item. However, today it has reached heights at which the government must get involved to try and
cover it up to ensure its secrecy and avoid exploitation. This instance is referred to as Crony
Capitalism, which is a theory that has evolved from corruption over a period of time. This idea

They drift away from the rule of law which they themselves have established to maintain social
control over their country. The government chooses to monopolize over businesses in pursuit of
getting a larger share of money. However, most of the time these turn into sunken costs, which they
then try to cover by raising tax rates. Countries that were regarded as miracles are nothing more than
havens now, for crony capitalists to get rich the easy way (Kang, 3). An example of this is in Canada,
where a big incentive in the form of tax credit is given to the Film Producing Industry. The
government has been providing tax payers money and direct subsidies in an effort to induce film
production in their province. Currently, film and television tax credits cover up to 35% of labour costs
all over Canada, except for Quebec where it covers up to 45%. This does not include the additional tax
credits that are provided to cover up the total production costs. In Alberta, the film and television
industry demanded $18 million for a project worth $32 million of building a film studio in Calgary.
The government has provided them with $10 million from property tax which means that the
remaining $22 million will be obtained from taxpayers at their cost. The film industry in Alberta
claims that this is beneficial since every buck that taxpayers contribute towards subsidies will result in
a 10 fold return to the economy. This demonstrates how Crony

Sociocultural Theory in Early Childhood Development Essay
Sociocultural is defined as relating to, or involving a combination of social (relating to human society)
and cultural (taste in art and manners that are favored by a social group) factors. (Socialcultural ,
2010) You might ask why we are defining these words. It gives a better understanding of Vygotsky

through these interactions. (Morrison, 2009 sec 14.6) I agree that his theory is the best process for

social interaction no matter what it is. They are taught by example, by getting help with the task and

to learn and evolve into completing activities independently and progressively from what they have
learned. It is important that the environment for the child be set with ideas and task that will allow
them too mentally, educationally and physically develop with or without adult and peer assistant.
Children are taught to mimic things like sounds and action; by mimicking this will help teachers
understand how a child learns and what they know. It is important to know what each child understand
and what they can progress on from previous teachings; by having them explain what they are doing.
Intersubjectivity is another concept of Lev Vegotsky individuals come to a task, problem, or
conversation with their, own subjective ways of making sense of it . (Morrison, 2009 sec 14) This is
for the child to verbally discuss their issue, to show that they understand what they are doing, and that
they can talk themselves through a problem. In Early Childhood Development Today stated that Lev

Why Is Mercl Benz An Innovator
1. Attention getter: According to Forbes, Mercedes Benz is the #16 World Most Valuable Brands. The
founder of Mercedes Benz, Karl Benz, back to 130 years ago when there were only horse drawn
carriage, he pioneered and innovated the first practical automobile powered by an internal combustion
engine at Mannheim. Karl Benz is a very great mechanical engineer during the 19th century (Bellis.
M, 2014).
2. Introduction
Profile/bio data/background of the innovator
 Original name was Karl Friedrich Michael Vaillant (Geni, 2011).
 Born on November 25, 1844 in Karlsruhe, Germany (Geni, 2011).
 In remembrance of the death of his father, he changed his name to Karl Friedrich Benz (Geni,
2011).
 Graduated with degree in Mechanical Engineering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His persistence of spending years to develop new type of engine is my inspiration for guiding me not
to give up easily especially during hard times. Whenever he failed to build the little gas engine in the
tricycle, or whenever he was about to give up on developing the horseless carriage, his wife, Bertha is
the one who pushed him to continue (Auer, G. 2006). After he finished his first creation of combustion
internal engine which was received a patent in the year of 1879, he did not give up of his old passion
of creating a horseless carriage. In 1886, he finished and granted a patent for his creation of the
horseless carriage vehicle which he named it as Benz Patent Motorwagen. The car was first driven in
Mannheim (Carl Benz Academy, 2011). Besides that, Karl Benz s motivation of upgrading the
specification of Benz Patent Motorwagen is one of the reasons that really inspired me to learn to
improve. When Benz was testing on Motorwagen, it often attracted many onlookers who laughed
mockingly when it crashed against the wall because it was difficult to control in the beginning of time.
After he received the patent on Motorwagen, he improved and upgraded the Motorwagen to 2nd
generation which is Motor 2 and also Motor 3 (4to40 Encyclopedia,

Lottery Essay Symbolism
Symbolism Essay Symbolism is a sign that has been used by literary authors to represent a larger idea
into another more specific concept or belief. Symbolism can be used to represent an action, an idea or
a person s archetype as well. The term symbolism is the practice of representing things by symbols, or
of investing in things with a symbolic meaning or character ( Symbolism ). Examples of symbolism
are: an eagle representing freedom, a dove representing peace, and the color green can symbolize the
feeling of envy. The following pieces of literature, The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, We Wear the Mask
by Paul Laurence, Richard Cory by Edwin Arlington Robinson, and Mirror by Sylvia Plath are all
poems that use symbolism. The story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The stones symbolize unity of the town but also symbolizes a murder weapon. At the end of the story,
it is surprising to see that someone is truly chosen to die through this lottery. A critic states, The story
shocks us because we do not like to admit a demonic side to our natures. The story suggests that
basically we are beasts, ... that we can slip back to barbarism hardly batting an eye (Evans).
Concerning this quote, all of the people of the town are so fixated on this tradition that they cannot
even see the madness in what they are doing. Every year each family is eager to participate. The
society represents an example of naturalism. Furthermore, in We Wear the Mask , Paul Laurence talks
about the different ways all types of feelings and emotions can be hidden. Every person in the world
has some sort of hidden struggle or triumph. A mask is used to hide what everyone wants kept in the
dark. A mask symbolizes protection and disguise. In fact, Laurence states, We wear the mask that grins
and lies, It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes (Line 1). Through the quote, the author explains that
no matter what people portray to the world, a mask covers what truly lies within. Sometimes others
have an understandable explanation for the front they put up. A critic suggests, This debt we pay to
human guile; / With torn and bleeding hearts we smile, / And mouth with myriad subtleties (
Explanation of: We Wear the Mask by Paul Laurence Dunbar ). The meaning of this

Research Paper On Dead Sea Scrolls
The Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in eleven caves along the northwest shore of the Dead Sea
between the years 1947 and 1956. The area is 13 miles east of Jerusalem and is 1300 feet below sea
level. The mostly fragmented texts, are numbered according to the cave that they came out of. They
have been called the greatest manuscript discovery of modern times. In total, scholars have identified
the remains of about 825 to 870 separate scrolls. The Scrolls have been divided into two categories,
biblical and non biblical. Fragments of every book of the Old Testament have been discovered except
for the book of Esther. The Scrolls were written in Hebrew and Aramaic. Aramaic was the common
language of the Jews of Palestine for the last two centuries

The Gap Between Economic And Social Classes
In modern the modern day United states, Americans face a problem that drastically affects the way we
have to live life. Our healthcare system has become drastically irregular and unequal in the current
system. After thorough analyzation of the provided CTSIP tables one can clearly see the gap between
economic and social classes that exists in the current structure and can place the said data into both a
functionalist and marxist perspective.
Based on the data, there are certain patterns that appear frequently throughout. The overarching theme
is that healthcare is not easily accessible for the lower class of america. The upper class can bothy
afford easily access health care through its money while the lower class unfortunately has to deal
without it the majority of the time. Graph one clearly shows us a the the lower class does not have
healthcare(with an unusual spike in the middle class). We also see that there is a rather large gap in
between those that earn 25,000 35,000 and those that 35,000 55,000. The latter group has a vastly
superior amount of people with health care. Almost to a doubled amount. The reasons for no health
care? The CTSIP study surveyed a numerous number of possible rationale including: healthy and don t
need insurance , employer does not provide coverage , self employed and the cost is too high , among
many others. The findings can be striking. The majority of those surveyed said that they simply cannot
afford the premiums of health care so

The Four Stages Of Sleep Research
The human brain is complex and the way the body advances is through sleep. Sleep allows the body to
rest, repair and rejuvenate itself. The brain is responsible for wave patterns called alpha and beta
waves that through a series of stages, produces what we know as non rapid eye movement (NREM),
and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. At the beginning of sleep, our minds are relatively active,
conscience, and producing beta waves, which are small and fast. The brain begins to produce alpha
waves when it relaxes and starts to slow down. At this point, it is possible to have lucid or strange
events called hypnagogic hallucinations, which can be responsible for you having episodes of seeing
and hearing things as you are falling asleep or sudden ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this process, dreams occur due to activity in the brain and the voluntary muscles are
immobilized. REM sleep is defined by rapid movement of the eyes, raised respiratory rate and
elevated brain activity. This stage occurs about 90 minutes into a person s sleep and repeats itself
every 90 minutes getting longer throughout the night; people spend about 25% of their sleep time in

  • 2. Tim Hortons Essay 1 OUR MOTIVATION Tim Hortons has been a symbol of Canada and an important memory for Canadians. We can understand what an important role Tim Hortons plays by following evidences. Ten cups of coffee sold in Canada, nearly eight cups are from Tim Hortons. And each year, Tim Hortons serves 2billion cups of coffee. Moreover, there are 15% of Canadians, which is more than 5.3 million people, visiting Tim Hortons every day. But Taiwanese are unfamiliar with this famous brand including us, so we are interested about this successful Canadian corporation and how it went global. 2 INTRODUCTION OF TIM HORTONS Tim Hortons chain was founded in 1964 by a Canadian hockey player Tim Hortons and Jim Charade in Hamilton, Ontario, which is known for its coffee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Considering the products they provided, Dunkin Donuts was the toughest and the only rival for Tim Hortons. Since the market was not yet fully saturated, Tim Hortons did not have to compete with the other food service which provided different category of foods. Despite the fact that Tim Hortons was a late mover in the US market, it was reasonable that Tim Hortons believed that with the leading position in Canada, it could expand its business to the US. 4.4 ENTRY MODE With Ron Joyce s strategy, Tim Hortons expanded quickly in both geography and product selection. In 1981, it already had successfully opened almost 150 outlets in Canada, and became the leading chain in Canada. It even resulted in the major changes to the coffee and donut restaurant market in Canada. Tim Hortons thus confidently believed that the expanding strategy could fit well even in the US market, where the geographical distance was close and the culture seemed to be quite similar to that of Canada. Moreover, most of the popular food service at that time entered a foreign market, especially from the US to Canada, with a wholly owned subsidiary. Especially when Dunkin donuts and Mister Donuts brought in the donut culture successfully and McDonald even became one of the leading food service in Canada. • 3. How Does Assimilation Affects Individual Identity How many technological devices do you use daily? In this day and age, the list would probably include smart phones, laptop computers, tablets, or more, but do you know where these devices were made? Even if your device was assembled locally, there is a good chance that the parts inside come from a collaboration of companies working together from all over the globe that are part of the global supply chain. For the last few decades, more and more companies rely on outsourcing, to produce their products and to provide services. Which in effect has globalized our world, and depends on countries being able to collaborate and work together to provide the products and services demanded by the customers at the end of the supply chain. As an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although this global supply chain and the flattening of the world is raising the standards of living of the people in developing nations, one must contemplate what is also being stripped away from these people in return for the increase in wealth. While assimilating to the customs and values of the western world might seem necessary for these countries to be able to work together and communicate, this assimilation affects individual identity as well as national identity. The assimilation required by global supply chains strips countries, such as India, of their cultural heritage and requires workers to Westernize and cover their true identities in order to work in the jobs that will raise their standard of living. Therefore, despite the positive economic effects that assimilation has on developing countries, the negative effects on culture and individuals the stripping away of identity and self are points often overlooked and are damaging to the countries and individuals that are stuck in limbo in between identities. When assimilation plays in conjunction with The Dell Theory, it becomes a positive arrangement because countries involved with the global supply chain are more hesitant to go to war with each other. The countries in the supply chain are obligated to come to mutual understandings, in which they cooperate with each other, regardless of their differences; otherwise, they risk losing their position in the supply chain. • 4. Semi Truck Collision A high speed collision with any vehicle can be devastating. However, a high speed collision of a car with a semi truck often has a grim outcome for the motorist. The rear underride guards of semi trailers don t offer much in the way of a crumple zone for absorbing impact energy. Damaged or rusted guards offer virtually no protection at all. In addition, hitting one at an offset (with the front left or right side of your car) causes severe damage to the car and may demolish the area occupied by the driver or right front passenger. Finally, a high speed collision with the side of a trailer, which lacks an underride guard, can shear off the top half of a car. How do these car/truck accidents happen? Biology was always to me the hardest subject I had ever dealt with because there was so much to learn, study, and truly understand. I walked through the door into the classroom and I ll never forget the words I heard my teacher say that caught me so off guard. Get out your notes and study because you have a test today , he said. As I heard him finish his sentence, my eyes widen and I quickly moved towards my seat and began to skim over my notes as fast as I could. I had completely forgot that I had a test in biology. While reading over my notes, I kept thinking to myself that I just knew I was going to fail this test. After a couple of minutes of studying, I heard the teach yell 5 more minutes . I began to skim even faster over my notes. It felt like time was moving so fast because when I heard my teach yell times up , it seemed as if only 2 minutes had passed by. He passed out the answer sheet around the classroom and instructed us to fill out our student ID numbers. I looked over the unfilled answer sheet and counted the amount of questions. There were 30 questions in total which frightened me even more because I had to answer 30 questions on information that I barely studied. Then he handed out the test and I became extremely nervous because not only did I barely study and there were 30 multiple choice questions, but the classroom was so cold that ... • 7. Daughter Of Smoke And Bone Summary Reading Response #3: Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Making Connections Questioning Daughter of Smoke and Bone is a fantasy book written by author Laini Taylor. On the back of the book, as well as in the official plot summary, DOSAB is described as a story of angels and demons, so I expected something about Heaven, Hell, etc. I typically don t enjoy books based on religious mythology, but I had heard some good things about DOSAB, so I decided to give it a shot. Based on the synopsis I had read, I was prepared for a book that fell into the same categories as the disastrous Hush, Hush and Fallen series . The category being: Books I Have Read But Will Live Until My Dying Day Swearing Up And Down I Never Touched. Other notable books in this category include The Uglies series and Twilight. Needless to say, my expectations were not high, but they could have been as tall as the CN Tower and DOSAB would still have blown me away. Laini Taylor s beautiful writing strips the overused angel and demon trope down to its bare bones and spins it into something new. Morphing it into its own enthralling genre. To say this book is all about angels and demons would be a severe injustice. To say this book is all about the mythology would be an injustice. The controversies have involved clinicians, teachers, policymakers, parents and the media. Opinions regarding ADHD range from not believing it exists at all to believing there are genetic and physiological bases for the condition as well as disagreement about the use of stimulant medications in treatment. With regard to genetic studies, research has demonstrated the fact that genetic influences are involved. Family studies, molecular genetics, and twin studies have explained the familial nature of ADHD. Regarding family studies, there is a high probability of a child being diagnosed with the disorder if the siblings or parents are also affected. In addition, about 33.3% of fathers who in their childhood had ADHD are likely to bear children who have the disorder. This is an indication that among first degree relatives of affected parents or siblings, there is a 6 8X risk of an ADHD relative to the prevalence of ADHD in the general population. Further evidence has been obtained from twin studies by comparing the rate of concordance between monozygotic (MZ) and dizygotic (DZ) twins. All of the genes are shared in the case of MZ twins whereas in DZ twins only 50% of segregating genes are shared on average. A study that involved comparing the rate of concordance between the two types of twins revealed that among MZ twins, the rate of concordance ranged between 58% and 82%. For the same sex in DZ twins, the rate was 31% 38%. These results provided more evidence to the heritable nature of ADHD. However, the fact that the rate of concordance in MZ twins was less than 100% in all the studies conducted implies the involvement of environmental components in the aetiology of ADHD. New England consisted of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Its colder than the other colonies, and made up of mountains, and rivers. The cold weather had a great effect on how houses in the New England colonies were built. The houses were normally plain rectangle 2 story houses, with a basement. The second story normally jutted out over the first floor, which kept the snow from piling up outside the door, which could have prevented the inhabitants from being able to leave their house. The basements were cold, and they colonists kept food located there. The fireplace was built in the middle of the house on both the first and second floors, which helped heat up the house quicker, and keep it warm. The roofs were tilted to allow snow to slide off. Its soil was very rocky, which made it very difficult for them to grow any crops. Its proximity to the ocean made fishing and ship building the main source of income. Women were also tin makers. The religion of this colony was Puritan, with the exception of Rhode Island. Puritans were very strict with themselves, and didn t allow any other types of religions. • 10. Red Wheelbarrow By William Carlos Williams Paradoxes And... The relationship between language and meaning is an important concept in literature and in particular poetry. This relationship is shown through the poems The Red Wheelbarrow by William Carlos Williams (1923) and also Paradoxes and Oxymorons by John Ashbery (1981). In The Red Wheelbarrow , Williams uses many poetic features of language such as assonance and imagery whilst John Ashbery uses predominantly direct address and also poetic fetters such as enjambment. The two poems, at first may not seem to have connections nor similarities, however one poetic feature neither use is a rhyme scheme and also both poets seem to want to involve the reader in some way such as Williams encourages us to use our imagination to find meaning. Similarly Ashbery suggests that without a reader, no meaning can be made of, or interpreted from the poem. This method should be used on people, whom one interact with the most, people who know someone and see them on a regular basis. Lifestyle evangelism creates a nurturing environment to extend an invitation to Christ. This means an unbeliever will feel a sense of belonging before becoming a believer. Research has shown that a non believer would be likely to give a believer the opportunity to share their faith, when the believer s life has proven that their words are sincere, and life altering. In this way, the non believer would feel a sense of worth before they expose themselves to the Inspired Word. There are some advantages to using the Lifestyle Relational method. In particular, the Father sent Jesus to be the absolute light, to be an example, and demonstrate how people of God should live. We should be living proof that Our Father is who he says he is; that Christ truly is the Son who freed people from slavery to self; and that the Holy Spirit honestly can transform our life. This is truly an advantage affirmation. This example of showing is not a substitute for telling. • 14. Susan Blackmore The Memes Machine Susan Blackmore s idea of memetics is controversial because not many believe it is scientific at all. A meme is an idea, behavior, style, or usage that spreads from person to person within a culture (Blackmore, 7). Blackmore describes this as singing Happy Birthday to someone or a handshake could be a meme. A meme is a form of imitation. I say a form of it because Blackmore points out some differences between the two. The idea of memes is criticized by scientists because they do not feel like memes are able to comply with the scientific method and prove to be a theory in the ways that they see fit. Blackmore then refers to the evolutionary algorithm as described by Dennett. Evolution in general in the science world relies on three requisites variation, selection, and heredity. The cyborg has no origin, therefore, it can understand the world without bias. Haraway discusses three important boundaries that support her main ideas throughout her essay. The boundary between human and animal is Haraway s way of saying that humans and animals are the same and should not be put into separate categories. The cyborg can think beyond the thought of humans and animals separately and view them as one species. The boundary between animal human and machine is used to describe the way Haraway views machines. Machines were lifeless. Such is the case for actor Charlie Sheen; the title of actor suffices to say that he already had a fairly interesting life, as he dealt with a massive blow to his own personal identity. The incident effectively severed the progression that Charlie had made toward self actualization. Self actualization being a term utilized by the psychological theorist Abraham Maslow, who suggested that a person has a hierarchy of needs that must be satisfied before one can truly complete themselves as a person. Furthermore, his incident also made him backtrack in the sense of Allport s development stages as he lost touch with what was truly important to him in some regards. The similarities between Allport and Maslow will serve to prove how certain events in one s life can stop a freight train in the metaphorical sense. Sheen s Life From a young age, Sheen had been encouraged to go into acting and took up his first appearance in film at the age of nine as an extra in The Execution of Private Slovik. Consequently, his interest in academia was minimal to say the least and resulted with him being expelled from high school a few weeks prior to receiving his diploma. Introduction This chapter describes the background, research purposes, problems, goals, and structure of this project in order to facilitate the reader in obtaining a clearer understanding of this research in the forthcoming chapters. 1.1 Research Background The background of this research is to understand and analyse the demands of the art students on business skills and entrepreneurship. London, as the world s fashion capital, is the best place to learn the arts and has many top art colleges (Fashion.telegraph.co.uk, 2015). This contributed to the fashion industry having a large number of graduates and new resources each year. However, the high tuition fees are not making the fashion industry easily accessible to all of the students. Among them, some of the art students who want to venture into it but there unable to meet the requirements on business knowledge and experience(The Business of Fashion, 2015). Therefore, it s essential for students to have the necessary background knowledge in business, in order for at students to expand their knowledge and understand, which will help them develop their personal career. 1.2 Research Aim, Questions and Objectives This study s objective to understand the needs of art students. The main research question is concerned with the art student profession, career planning and entrepreneurship issues, to see whether or not they are feasible for the actual research process. In addition, the ultimate aim is to identify and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Kennedy Conspiracy In Vietnam II. Conspiracies i. Military industrial complex In the farewell speech given by U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower when he left office, he warned the nation about the power of the military establishment and the arms industry. In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists, and will persist. Some conspiracy theorists have argued that Kennedy planned to end the involvement of the United States in Vietnam, and was therefore targeted by those who had an interest in sustained military conflict, including the Pentagon and defense contractors. Former Texas Senator Ralph Yarborough in 1991 stated: Had Kennedy lived, I think we would have had no Vietnam War, with all of its traumatic and divisive influences in America. I think we would have escaped that. According to author James Douglass, Kennedy was assassinated because he was turning away from the Cold War and seeking a negotiated peace with the Soviet Union. Douglass argued that this was not the kind of leadership the CIA, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the military industrial complex wanted in the White House. Oliver Stone s film, JFK, explored the possibility that Kennedy was killed by a conspiracy involving the military industrial complex. L. • 23. Irony In The Story Of A Good Little Boy How would you feel if you tried you re hardest to be good but only had bad things happen to you? It simply wouldn t seem fair. This was the case for Jacob Blivens whom, The Story of the Good Little Boy was fictionally about. Try as he might nothing works out in the end for Jacob which is a lesson we all could learn from. You can do your best to achieve something but it doesn t mean that in the end it will work out how you want it to. Twain s opinion that Jacob lives his life for an unrealistic dream comes out in his use of diction, characterization, and irony. The story starts by explaining how Jacob has always tried his hardest to be a good little boy like in the Sunday school books he reads. It gives you many instances of this but instead of the praise Jacob is seeking, he always ends up in trouble, normally because the situation is misunderstood. In the end it takes this to the extreme with Jacob trying to undo what some bad boys did and dies tragically, without saying the last words he had prepared. The setting is important because back in the days when this story was written, children s books were more just Sunday school tales. These stories would talk about little boys who followed all Gods commandments and were good all their lives. Unfortunately, these stories also tended to end with the young boys dying. In the story it says that, It made him feel a little uncomfortable sometimes when he reflected that the good little boys always died. He loved to live, you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Carnegie had been convinced that the trend in railroading was towards heavier locomotives and cars and longer trains in order to increase productivity. This is where many of the old wooden bridges were converted into sturdier, iron and steel bridges. Carnegie quit the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1865 both to concentrate on the bridge business and to pursue investments. Iron Business: Carnegie made his first investment in iron in 1861 when he invested in a local iron company. Carnegie and three partners later founded the Cyclops Iron Works in Pittsburgh in October of 1864. Right away Carnegie introduced a new method to the iron industry. Carnegie s aim was to ensure a reliable and cheap supply of iron beams and plates. He was able to control all aspects of the iron business and create an almost monopoly. This way of business was also called vertical integration. His training on the Pennsylvania railroad proved crucial. Introduction In the storage of CO2 in the deep geologic reservoirs for enhancing extraction of coalbed methane area, Vishal et al. argue against the consequences of CO2 injection on the permeability of Indian bituminous coal at different confining and injection pressure. The major approach of the journal is to clarify about when and how would the incensement of injection pressure have impact on the permeability of coalbed methane. As a final year Civil Engineering student, I found this journal is educational and inspiring. The research shows a comprehensive explanation of how pressure and stress of permeability of coal to sub critical CO2 is tested. The effective stress is proportional to the confining pressure and pore pressure. Results, a trend of exponential decline in permeability with increasing effective stress is observed. During the passage of CO2 through the coal sample, the gas is absorbed, which cause volume deformation. The journal concluded that the reduction in permeability of coal maybe attributes to the role of coal matrix expansion. CO2 gets preferentially adsorbed onto the surface of the coal. At the same time, adsorption induces swelling at the time of coal exposure to the gas. The increase of injection of gas will cause the decline in permeability is belongs to the fracture spacing is not completely closed and the movement of gas cause swelling. However, the closure of fractures, a flow with increase permeability at higher injection pressure occurs at the highest confining pressure.. This is because the opening of fracture by increases the fracture apertures and this can enable easier flow (The University of Alabama. College of Continuing Studies, College of engineering, 2004). • 33. The Old Private Pension System The old private pension system was created in the 1920 s and expanded throughout the 30 s and 40 s (McDonnell). Private pensions were considered one of the three income sources for retired elderly. Originally, private pensions had defined benefits. The employer and employee would agree to a percentage of salary that the employee would receive from the company annually during retirement. Contractually obligated, this placed the liability onto the employer. Estimates say that employees could receive around 40% of their last year s salary as annual income with defined benefits. In the 1990 s, the pension plans gradually changed from defined benefits to defined contribution. The employees, rather than negotiating retirement salary now determine the amount of their salary that will be saved in a retirement fund. Retirement income is a burden on the employee rather than employer (Ghilarducci 8). In order to equal the income of the old plans, employees give their retirement savings to mutual funds that invest in the stock market. While a key aspect of retirement, the system has evolved like most economic institutions, favoring the wealthy and established. Furthermore, the private pension system contributes to a market bubble, putting money into the stock market regardless of market strength. These two problems cause the modern pension system to be flawed and unstable. The program must undergo drastic reform in order to save private pensions. It is evident that the current pension ... Technology has been, and continues, to improve on a regular basis. Telepathology is not a new concept in the telemedicine arena. Even with the wide availability to doctors and physicians, there has been a slow adoption of telepathology in everyday practice. High operating and maintaining costs used to be the main reason physicians gave for not accepting telepathology, but now most of the negative attitudes are contributed to the lack of education and clear guidelines (Cross, 2002, p. 14) for new incorporators of telepathology. There is no secret that the current system has problems, including incompatibility within systems, and the expensive microscopes that are dedicated to telepathology, but future developments are being researched and produced to help offset the high costs. Low cost internet solutions, videoconferencing, integrated digital pathology workstations, and virtual microscopes are just a few of the developments in the works. Low Cost Internet Solutions One of the most ideal situations for the future of telepathology would be the creation of one universally compatible system that wouldn t require expensive microscopes to be dedicated exclusively for the field of pathology (Cross, 2002). • 36. Italian Baroque And The Protestant Baroque Styles The Baroque era spans a period of 150 years. During this time, baroque art had four distinct styles. I plan to focus on the Italian Baroque and the Protestant Baroque styles. While these styles share some similarities, they are also very different. The Italian Baroque style is often ornate and focused on religion with an emphasis on the need for the church s guidance. The Protestant Baroque style is plain with no obvious religious messages and less need for guidance from the church. Both styles contain many amazing pieces of artwork, but I plan to focus on Bernini s Baldacchino and Vermeer s Woman Holding a Balance. The Italian Baroque style of art was established by the Catholic Church to bring individuals focus back to the church. This is also known as Counter Reformation. The artwork was often very elaborate, large in scale, showed movement and contained religious objects that glorified the Catholic Church (Armstrong). Another trademark of this time was the ability of the artwork to evoke emotions (Hollander). It was their attempt to show people they must lean on the church to be successful. If there is one piece of art that displays all of these characteristics perfectly, it is the Baldacchino by Bernini. This is a magnificent piece that one could stare at for hours and probably not take in all of the details. The scale of the Baldacchino is enormous. It is a film that is not very elaborate on special effects, costumes and such as it even includes invisible horses with coconuts to mimic the sound of the galloping horses. All which indicate the low budget set on the production of the film. Although, the quality of the film does not suffer with it s low budget since this adds uniqueness and more comical pieces to the film. The concepts triggered in the film come from elements of the Arthurian legends. The elements are concepts related to the education, health of the time, code of chivalry, divine rights, Christianity and social division. The film opens with a scene where King Arthur is discussing with his guard the use of coconuts for the sound of the horses. This leads to an argument of how the coconuts arrived to England since they come from a tropical zone. The guard and King Arthur decide to make up reasons and come to an elaborate yet very confusing answer that in reality does not clear the dilemma. This scene can be related to the education of the medieval times, which was very low and explanations came from sumptuous fabrications. In addition, many of the Arthurian legends have details that are somewhat unfit or unrealistic and portray that believe of what is not possible. Countries that were regarded as miracles are nothing more than havens now, for crony capitalists to get rich the easy way (Kang, 3). An example of this is in Canada, where a big incentive in the form of tax credit is given to the Film Producing Industry. It is important that the environment for the child be set with ideas and task that will allow them too mentally, educationally and physically develop with or without adult and peer assistant. Whenever he failed to build the little gas engine in the tricycle, or whenever he was about to give up on developing the horseless carriage, his wife, Bertha is the one who pushed him to continue (Auer, G. 2006). After he finished his first creation of combustion internal engine which was received a patent in the year of 1879, he did not give up of his old passion of creating a horseless carriage. In 1886, he finished and granted a patent for his creation of the horseless carriage vehicle which he named it as Benz Patent Motorwagen. The car was first driven in Mannheim (Carl Benz Academy, 2011). Besides that, Karl Benz s motivation of upgrading the specification of Benz Patent Motorwagen is one of the reasons that really inspired me to learn to improve. When Benz was testing on Motorwagen, it often attracted many onlookers who laughed mockingly when it crashed against the wall because it was difficult to control in the beginning of time. At the end of the story, it is surprising to see that someone is truly chosen to die through this lottery. The story suggests that basically we are beasts, ... that we can slip back to barbarism hardly batting an eye (Evans). Concerning this quote, all of the people of the town are so fixated on this tradition that they cannot even see the madness in what they are doing. Every year each family is eager to participate. The society represents an example of naturalism. Furthermore, in We Wear the Mask , Paul Laurence talks about the different ways all types of feelings and emotions can be hidden. Every person in the world has some sort of hidden struggle or triumph. A mask is used to hide what everyone wants kept in the dark. A mask symbolizes protection and disguise. Through the quote, the author explains that no matter what people portray to the world, a mask covers what truly lies within.
