Examples Of Lack Of Self Confidence In The Wizard Of Oz
In today s society, there are about 6.375 billion people affected by a lack of self confidence, in other
terms, this is about 85% of the world s current population of 7.5 billion people. Why does the majority
of the world s population suffer from a lack of self confidence? There is a simple answer to this
question, and it can be found in the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. Baum
through the use of 3 characters portrays the lack of self confidence. Baum uses the Scarecrow, the Tin
Woodman and the Lion prove that a person/character s own strengths go un noticed by him/her. The
way to reach these strengths would be through self confidence. The 85% of the world s population
with a lack of self confidence do not realize that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It in fact was a possibility, allowing the rest of the travelers to climb the lion s back and make it across
the ditch. Once across this ditch the group encountered another ditch to cross, which was so large,
even the lion was unable to leap across. Realizing this the Scarecrow told the Tin Woodman to cut
down a large tree from the close by forest and asked the Lion to push it down towards the ditch once it
was cut. This created a bridge for not only the travelers to cross but also the dreaded Kalidahs. The
Kalidahs are dreaded beats that were ferocious and could kill the lion if they wanted to and turning
back the Lion realizes that there are two Kalidahs following them across the bridge. Once everyone
gets across the bridge the Scarecrow instructs the Tin Woodman to cut down the part of the tree that
lay on their side of the bridge. Doing this had caused the tree to fall, taking both the Kalidahs down
into the ditch. Shortly after the Scarecrow had helped the group cross two ditches and saved everyone
s life, was he faced with another small problem, how to get across the river. The Scarecrow made easy
work of this and asked the Tin Woodman to cut down trees and make rafts for them. The Scarecrow
had proved everything he had said about himself wrong through these actions. All these situations
happened in one chapter and there is a couple more in the

The Day Of The Desert
Three o clock in the morning and I do not want to be here, sitting out on a concrete pad in the middle
of the desert for the last two hours. I should be a little more specific; I m on the flight line at Al Udeid
Air Base, Qatar, waiting for my final flight into Tallil Air Base, Iraq. I grab my fourth bottle of water
to quench my thirst; the dry heat killing me. I thought it would be cooler here in the evening, nope a
nice 89 degrees. Feels more like 103 I contribute this to the fourty pounds of military gear I am
wearing. Not comfortable at all; the heavy flak vest, causing my shoulders to ache and on top of that a
sore neck because of the two and a half pound helmet. Boredom set in an hour and a half ago since
there is nothing to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second rule, touch nothing and followed the directions of the crew, after that I lost interest. Good
rules, I know nothing about flying and I am good at taking orders, so I will fit right in. I peered inside
the belly of the aircraft to see what type of accommodation it offered. Sparse lighting, but I could
make out four rows of orange jump seats, one row on each side facing the center and two in the center
facing the wings. The seats located toward the front of the plane, toward the back the cargo area.
Shiny aluminum or gray metal peered back from the inside of the aircraft; so utilitarian. Military
stencil here and there, nets, straps and electrical wiring running along the walls. Briefing completed,
the loadmaster directed us to grab a seat and make sure we distributed ourselves evenly to balance the
weight out. I choose my canvas seat with its net backing closes to the window, once everyone settled;
I had no room to move around. This is going to be a long and painful flight with these seats. Four
pallets of equipment were loaded toward the tail of the aircraft, and then the hatch raised making a
hydraulic buzz.
Completing his checklist items the loadmaster gave the O.K. to the pilot, he gave a thumbs up to one
of the crewmembers and the first of four turboprop engines started up. Even with earplugs I could hear
the engines whine as it slowly turned into a low hum, three more added to the noise. The hum became
more intense as we started to taxi out

Advantages Of Linear Dynamic Analysis
1.3.2 Linear dynamic analysis = for tall buildings, buildings with torsional irregularities, or non
orthogonal systems, a dynamic procedure is required. In the linear dynamic procedure, the building is
modelled as a multi degree of freedom (MDOF) system with a linear elastic stiffness matrix and an
equivalent viscous damping matrix. Linear dynamic analysis is carried out by two methods: Response
spectrum method Elastic time history method The corresponding internal forces and displacements are
determined using linear elastic analysis. The advantage of these linear dynamic procedures with
respect to linear static procedures is that higher modes can be considered. However, they are based on
linear elastic response and hence the applicability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In nonlinear dynamic analyses, the detailed structural model subjected to a ground motion record
produces estimates of component deformations for each degree of freedom in the model and the modal
responses are combined using schemes such as the square root sum of squares. The non linear
properties of the structure are considered as part of a time domain analysis. This approach is the most
rigorous, and is required by some building codes for buildings of unusual configuration or of special
importance. However, the calculated response can be very sensitive to the characteristics of the
individual ground motion used as seismic input; therefore, several analyses are required using
different ground motion records to achieve a reliable estimation of the probabilistic distribution of
structural response. Since the properties of the seismic response depend on the intensity, or severity, of
the seismic shaking, a comprehensive assessment calls for numerous nonlinear dynamic analyses at
various levels of intensity to represent different possible earthquake scenarios. This has led to the
emergence of methods like the Incremental Dynamic

The Counter Products ( Otc ) Drug Used For The Treatment...
Introduction:
Over the counter products are effective in the management of self limiting conditions, but also pose
danger of misuse. Loperamide or Imodium, is a common over the counter (OTC) drug primarily used
for the treatment of diarrhea. As a synthetic µ opioid receptor agonist, loperamide increases intestinal
transit time by decreasing intestinal motility and modifies intestinal transport of water and electrolytes
by stimulating absorption, all which are beneficial in the treatment of diarrhea.1 However, what makes
loperamide truly attractive is its lack of the analgesic effects in therapeutic and supra therapeutic
doses.1 All this is true, when loperamide is taken as directed. Unfortunately, it is not being taken as
directed and has had serious negative health outcomes for those misusing and abusing it.
When conducting studies to quantify loperamide s abuse potential, the maximum dose used was
60mg,2 it never occurred to us, that mega daily doses of up to 400mg would ever be used.3 Sadly, this
is the reality of the times in which we live in and if pharmacists are to be of help, we must quickly
adapt. Obviously opioid misuse is not a new thing, and is definitely not exclusive to a particular
geographic location.4 Opioid policies and regulations set in place to limit and restrict physicians
prescribing, though with good intent, have created a complex pool of patients that turn to other
sources of opioids5. Loperamide s abuse and misuse is potentiated by its

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Cyberterrorism
Introduction Prevalent to the current trend now is the dependency of the society on Information
technology and communication systems. Every aspect of human life is one way or the other linked and
controlled by information technology tools. The importance of information technology cannot be over
emphasized as its unavailability could lead to a form of disaster or the other. Pivotal infrastructures
like finance, healthcare, education and security are driven by information technology. However,
information technology and its benefits are accompanied by vulnerabilities and risks that can be
exploited by people with the necessary technical skills. Individuals like Hackers and Cyber Terrorist
can cause disruption to information systems, commit financial fraud and also attack computers and
networks. These attacks and disruptions could result to violence against people and properties. In
some cases, death, serious injuries and severe economic loss could occur as a result of these attacks.
What is Cyberterrorism? A lot of opinions and meanings has been given to the word Cyberterrorism .
Some of these meanings and definitions varies. In this light, Gordon and Ford (2003) are concerned
that when 10 people define cyberterrorism and nine of the given answers are different, and these 10
people represent different government agencies tasked with safeguarding national assets and
infrastructure, then it becomes a critical issue. According to Furnell and Warren (1999), Evidence
suggests that technology is growingly seen as a potential tool for terrorist organizations and the
widespread use of information technology by terrorist groups and organizations has led to the birth of
a new class of menace termed Cyberterrorism . Cyberterrorism could be used in many diverse ways.
Sometimes, a country s pivotal infrastructures could be shut down and harmed using computer
network and tools. There have been impediments in trying to give a clear and concise definition to the
term cyberterrorism . But Denning (2007) which supersedes Denning (2000) gives an unambiguous
definition to cyberterrorism: Cyberterrorism is generally understood to refer to highly damaging
computer based attacks or threats of attack by non state actors against

Was The Spanish Armada A Good Queen
In some ways she was a good queen and in others a bad queen. Certainly I agree with you it was a
terrible thing that her soldiers and sailors didn t get paid, especially after the Spanish Armada, when
many sailors were reduced to begging. and by the end of her reign the standard of living for the
common people of England was at it s lowest ever.
But she manage to keep her throne for forty five years which makes her a good Queen in the sense
that she was a survivor, and at the beginning at any rate she did attempt to be tolerant of other
religions, while virtually creating the Church of England and settling the religious question. David
Loades says of her:

The King of Spain at that time was called Phillip, and he had previously asked Elizabeth to marry him,
but she had refused. He grew more annoyed with her because they belonged to different religions, and
she had encouraged her pirate s to raid Spanish ships, amongst other reasons. Eventually, he prepared
an Armada to attack England, but it failed and the Spanish returned home. I think that Elizabeth could
have behaved with a little more diplomacy to avoid war, and she didn t actually help to defeat the
Spaniards, although she did make a very stirring speech to her troops, which started, I may have the
body of a weak and feeble woman, but I have the heart and stomach of a great king. Also, lots of her
injured soldiers who returned home alive were not paid and were left to beg in the streets for the
remainder of their lives, although that might be a different issue. So basically I do think that Elizabeth
deserved the title, Good Queen Bess, because she was very innovative and forward thinking for her
time, and wasn t too cruel for her time. One thing is sure, and that it that she was certainly a very
interesting woman. In conclusion, I would like to end this essay thanking you for reading it, I hoped

Police Licensing And Regulatory Department Of The...
This is the first security check point after the passengers receive their boarding passes, and it separates
the passengers from the non passengers. It is one of the most important security features, as right after
this check point, the passengers have to go through the customs, and it officially shows that they are
leaving the country. Other security features includes the final check at the arrival. At the arrival hall,
there were two separate lanes to the exit, one for the passengers with nothing to declare and the other
one for passengers with items to declare. Passengers are required to declare if they possess items that
are prohibited in Singapore, such as arms and explosives, bullet proof clothing, antique guns, toy guns
and swords. Such items would require authorisation from the Police Licensing Regulatory Department
of the Singapore Police Force. Another security feature would be the policemen armed and on patrol.
With the policemen patrolling, it would allow the passengers to feel safer and the police will be able
get to work as soon as possible, in case of any threats. The check in counters are one of the most
important security features as it is the first contact point with the passengers. The check in counters are
responsible for giving the right boarding passes to the right passengers, preventing anyone that is not
allowed to be on a flight to be on it. The increasing trend of self check in counters may pose as threat
or chance for terrorism as some people

The Failure Of Risk Management
Hubbard is very contemptuous of much of the Risk Management practiced by organisations. Do you
agree with his comments and suggested methods of managing analysis of risks?
In The failure of risk management why it s broken and how to fix Hubbard has put a very good
argument regarding the failure of old risk management techniques. Hubbard has tried to show how the
risk management methodologies and techniques used currently by many organisation lack scientific
and mathematical approach towards risk management.
Hubbard has asked 3 basic questions in his book based on the several risk management methodologies
1. Do these risks management methods work?
2. Dose the organisation s using these methods know if these methods didn t work?
3. What are the consequences if they didn t work?
In my opinion Hubbard has put the very strong argument in his book, as many organisations have
adopted risk management systems. But the problem is, the systems are not backed up by measurable
scientific results and often can actually make things worse. After reading the text I don t think that
Hubbard is being contemptuous of the risk management practices but he is trying to identifying new
ways of better utilising these methods.
After reading the book we can see that Hubbard is a strong advocate of quantitative risk management
techniques such as Monty Carlo simulation. However, he believes that they are often used incorrectly.
Specifically,
1. They are often used without empirical data or validation

Conflict Theory And Symbolic Interactionism
Sociology is the function of the human society, and social problems among us. There are three
different theories that I will be discussing in this essay. The theories are symbolic interactionism, The
conflict theory and functional analysis perspectives. These perspectives help make up the way society
thinks as a whole. All three of these perspectives are alike, as much as they are different. Symbolic
interactionism helps explain both of our individual personalities and the ways the human society is
linked together (p.27). It also helps us differentiate social order and change through a process. The
teachings of symbolic interactionism comes mostly from George Herbert Mead But,George was not
the only one that influenced the thoughts and ideas of symbolic interactionism. Symbolic interaction is
theoretical perspective so it is still changing and evolving. It also has four kinds of understandings in
the population and environment. One of the understandings is that symbolic interactionism is to
understand why people engage or do not engage in social growth of the population . Symbolic
Interactionism assumes that people from different social backgrounds, and different cultures may see
different social issues within their social community. George Mead,Charles Cooley and Herbert
Blumer shaped symbolic interactionism on the predictions of yourself causing you to behave a certain
way so it becomes true. Structural functionalism is a theory that explains why society

Online Dating Changes
Dating has changed drastically since its beginning. In the past it was common in dating for the young
man to court a young lady he was interested for months maybe even before going on a date. At this
time it was common practice for young men and fathers of the woman they were interested in to make
deals about whom their daughters will marry. However, in the past three decades, dating has become
more of a process. When the Internet was first introduced dating online happened almost from day
one. Even before the Web itself was made, there were bulletin board and newsgroups that played host
to a variety of Internet dating activities. Then personal ads were created these ads were similar to what
was going on in newspapers at the time. People who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

can have a positive outcome and showed the Web as a tool for bringing people together that otherwise

other high profile dating sites. However this did not last due to the dot com crash in 2001/2002. This
caused an end to the online dating as it was constituted at that time. Dating sites begin to change due
to the creation of websites like Friendster and Myspace in 2002. The main idea of these sites was
social networking and a byproduct was online dating. Anyone could meet potential relationships on
the internet without going to a website that was dedicated to this purpose. Also the new craze of Social

I Sat Frozen, An Ordinary Day
It was just an ordinary day. The potent feelings of agony and disbelief raced through my mind. I sat
frozen, intensely gripping the steering wheel, convincing myself that it wasn t real.
The end of summer air was thick with heat and humidity. I was exercising on the elliptical when my
phone buzzed. It was a text message from my friend Sophia, whom I hadn t seen since the beginning
of summer vacation. Her text message asked if we could meet up for lunch at Cava, both one of our
favorite restaurants. I went onto the treadmill to conclude my workout, smiled, and thought to myself,
today is going to be a good day.

other driver involved in the accident hadn t left the scene. Sophia and I got out of my car and noticed
the right backside door of my car was completely indented and part of my tire was missing. That was
when I realized what had just happened. I felt the rage a driver feels when colliding with a deer that
came out of nowhere. You re angry because you didn t see the deer coming. You feel bad for the deer
and contemplate whether you did something wrong but then you see the damage that the deer caused
your car. I threw my arms up in the air and stormed over to the other driver. The other driver was a
woman about fifty years old. Before I even had the chance to ask her what happened, the woman told
me that a pole was blocking her view of my car and then went on to accuse me of speeding.
With heat flooding my body, I told the woman not to leave and I walked back over to my car. I
grabbed my insurance and took pictures of the damage. I felt tears coming out of my eyes and rushed
to call my mom. It went to voicemail. I took a deep breath and called my dad. It went to voicemail as
well. I didn t know when my parents would call me back and knowing that my brother was at work, I

Support Group That I Had Been At The Same Time
For this assignment I chose to go to a support group that I had been to before. I chose to do this
because I wanted to see what would change or what the differences, were between this time and the
first time I had went to this meeting. This assignment was very interesting and very difficult for me at
the same time. The main reason it was so difficult for me, was I still am not driving too often. So this
setback gave me more hurtles to jump over and through, just so I could get to a meeting. Because of
this I really struggled trying to find a support group that would actually allow me to attended meetings
at the times were people were available to drive me. Then once again it hit me, like before, I finely
asked my friend if her mother who is a nurse could help me out. My friend s mother said yes. She
knew of a caregiver group a caregiver group for cancer and was even willing to drive me to the group.
The only terms were that I would feel out a paper saying I agreed to the conditions of the group. And
the information shard in the meeting at no circumstances was to be talked about outside the group. For
this assignment I attended the Cancer Caregivers Support Group in the clinical center at Froedtert
Hospital. The meeting took place on October 22nd 2016 at night 5:30pm to 7:00pm at night. This

Essay about Jainism

Hinduism. In the beginning, however, the Jains prayed to the Hindu gods mainly for earthly support
like a male heir, long life, and prosperity. Jainism can be trace its beginnings to the Indus river valley

This may cause some wonder since it is looked down to not limit one?s possessions, although they

Jainism earliest descriptions were thought of being a self centered search for personal salvation
without having a personal God. Jains do not believe in one creator or God. Heinrich Zimmer, an
expert on Indian Philosophy, states, ?Jainism is Tran theistic it does not deny existence of God but that
it goes beyond them.? (A 352) Others see it?s as a search for personal growth and a sense of higher
personal ethics. Jainism is founded on the goal of overcoming the temporary cycle of earthly life in
addition to be released from an endless cycle of existence. Human destiny was the center of Jain
teaching. They were to rely on themselves to seek that which will save them from the domination of
matter, this being moral elevation. Above all, Jainism is a religion of love and compassion, with an
eternal universe. They have made significant contributions in logic, art, and architecture, grammar,
mathematics, literature, philosophy, astronomy, and astrology.
Jainism was distinguished for their extreme practices, even to the severity of death by self starvation.

perfection by means of nonviolence. They especially avoid harming any living creature since every

Operational risk management for small enterprises
Is a tool used by management to make smart decisions about how to mitigate risks. The goal is to
manage risk so that there is minimal impact on the continuity of the business. Operational risk
management involves five steps which includes; identifying hazards, assessing the hazards, making
risk decisions, implementing controls and supervising watching for change to occur. There are also
three levels associated with risk management to include in depth, deliberate and time critical.
Operational Risk Management is worth of doctoral level study because it is the means through which
risks that would negatively affect business operations are identified and informed judgment to mitigate
the identified risks are made. Hence it decreases or eliminates operational loss in businesses, decreases
exposure to future risks by ensuring that management has good continuity plans and detects illegal
actions. It is therefore essential at a doctorial level to have well informed knowledge about operational
risk management to better suit in the work environment.

What Are The Similarities Of The Abrahamic Religions
Abrahamic Religions Approximately 1800 B.C., early Hebrew religion in Asia area Since humans
existed on the Earth, they soon realized that they were too weak to stand the nature. When the natural
disasters such as floods, tornadoes, and earthquakes happened, humans immediately related to the
superpowers that might trigger them. They believed in multiple Gods and sought protection from their
deities, and that was how polytheism gradually formed. Polytheism was practiced among the Jewish
up until God revealed Himself and passed the covenants to Abraham at Mount Sinai. Abrahamic
religions are known for practicing monotheism
The major religions of Abrahamic religions are Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Although all three
has the same origin and worship only one true deity, they do not all explain their practice in the same
way. ............Consequently, the separation of Christianity and Islam from Judaism is always a
fascinating subject to study for decades. Christianity and Islam both have deep roots in Judaism.
Therefore, they do share the equal amount of similarities as well as differences with Judaism. One of
the most common belief among the three religions is to believe in one God as a creator of the
universe. On the other hand, each religion complies with its laws in different Holy books. The Jews
follow the teachings of the Torah and call their God as Yahweh. The Christians refer to the Bible (also
called the New Testament) as their Word of God, and believe in the Trinity

Redemption In Les Miserables
The Change From Past To Present True redemption is when guilt leads to good (Khaled Hosseini). Not
one person on earth is completely free from wrongs. Humans have lapses in judgement that can hurt
them and others. Some people believe you can be redeemed and can put your wrongs behind you,
these people are kind and generous. Others believe you have one chance to get it right, these people
are often angry and judgmental. There are also those who believe that someone can t be redeemed, but
begin to realize that people can change. By looking at the Bishop, Javert, and Jean Valjean and their
actions it becomes clear that Les Miserables is a book about redemption coming to those who did
wrongs in their past and the behaviors of those who believe and don t believe. The Bishop was only in
Les Miserables for a short time but the effect he had on Jean Valjean carried throughout the entire
book. The Bishop believes that people can make lousy decisions but still be redeemed of them. When
Jean Valjean stole the silver the Bishop didn t condemn him, he gave him the chance to change the
path he was going down, . . . God has brought you out of darkness. I have bought your soul for God
(Movie). The Bishop s feelings on redemption made him a kind generous man, giving Jean Valjean a
chance at a new life. Javert is a foil of the Bishop, he believes people can t be redeemed of their
wrongs and is severe as a result. Throughout much of the book the police inspector, Javert,

then, the tablet will perform better than its competitors in the market. At this time, the total sales will

the customers pay the same for the tablet as they pay for other competing tablets in the market. In that

I Love You Wade Analysis
I love you, Wade, you big idiot, Peter spoke, his tone almost too quiet even to his own ears. The only
response he got in return was the light breeze blowing against his cheek and the gentle sway of the
bare trees surrounding him. Paired with his own soft sniffles.
Tears slid down his pink stained cheeks, he never thought he would have to be in this position. It was
always assumed that it d be the other way around, not to say that would be any better.
A grave sat in front of him displaying his love s name in font almost too pretty to be appropriate.
Flowers decorated the edges of the plot along with a little Canadian flag (courtesy of Steve after being
told an American Flag would make no sense).
The funeral had been weeks ago, yet the second date engraved into the stone still haunted Peter s

Lycidas Poem Analysis
The Crisis of Lycidas Absent Body
Lycidas is a pastoral elegy in which the speaker, a shepherd, mourns the death of his friend Lycidas, a
fellow shepherd and talented poet, who had drowned at sea. However, as the poem progresses, the
figure of Lycidas fades into the background as the writing of the poem becomes overwhelmed by the
various crises that the speaker experiences and other poetic voices those of Phoebus and St. Peter, for
instance interrupt. The ninth verse paragraph of Lycidas marks the poem s return to its elegiac intent
as the speaker experiences another crisis in which he laments Lycidas absent body, a recurring element
which, when addressed by the speaker directly, allows the speaker to properly mourn and accept
Lycidas death.
The ninth verse paragraph begins with a plea, Return, Alpheus (132), Alpheus being a river in Arcadia
whose waters mix with the fountain Arethuse, referenced earlier in the poem to represent Greek
pastoral poetry. The speaker persuades Alpheus to return by stating that the dread voice is past (132)
the dread voice being St. Peter, who in the previous verse paragraph interrupted the speaker s voice
with a vicious condemnation of shepherds. The verse paragraph before was taken over by Neptune s
herald, and the one before by Phoebus. As the poem progresses, it begins to move away from Lycidas
to the point that the ninth verse paragraph is the first one since the fifth that mentions Lycidas, or
Lycid (151), by name. By calling on Alpheus and the Sicilian Muse (133), the speaker recognizes that
the elegy has veered from its original intent and he wishes to return to it.
The speaker first does this by invoking the Sicilian Muse to call the vales (134) to gather a plants and
flowers to adorn Lycidas dead body. The speaker specifically calls for primrose, crowtoe, jessamine,
pansies, violets, woodbine, cowslips, amaranthus, daffodils, and laurels. (142 47,149 150)The laurels
are significant as an emblem of poetry and its presence on Lycidas hearse (151) praises him for his
poetry, but there is a sense of sadness and grief embedded within the floral imagery. When the speaker
mentions the rathe primrose (142), a flower that blooms early

Relationship Between Appraisals Of Strain And Of Gain And...
Introduction The study of Rapp and Chao (2000) aimed to understand the relationship between
appraisals of strain and of gain and psychological wellbeing of family caregivers of dementia patients.
The study addressed the gaps in the literature related to applying caregivers appraisals of strains and
of gains to predict both negative and positive affect on caregivers wellbeing. Thus, Rapp and Chao
(2000) proposed three hypotheses. First, the study hypothesized that the greater caregivers appraise
their role strains, the higher negative affect (NA) they would experience on their psychological
wellbeing and vise versa. Second, the researchers predicted that the relationship between caregivers

The introduction of the study, however, does not explain some concepts well. From the title of the
article, Rapp and Chao (2000) emphasize the scope of the study as caregivers psychological

psychological wellbeing , except for a brief mention that there are positive affect and negative affect
related to psychological wellbeing. Likewise, in the third hypothesis, the researchers express an
interest in understanding objective stressors without providing a definition of objective stressors. The
lack of main concept explanation may mislead readers understandings in the next sections. Design and

Segmentation And The Domain Independent Partitioning Of An...
Segmentation The important aim of image segmentation is the domain independent partitioning of an
image into a set of disjoint regions that can be visually differentiated, homogeneous and meaningful
with respect to some characteristics or computed property such as grey level, texture or colour to
enable easy image analysis. Image segmentation is a useful tool in many realms including industry,
health care, astronomy, and various other fields. Segmentation in concept is a very simple idea.
Simply looking at an image, one can tell what regions are contained in a picture. Is it a building, a
person, a cell, or just simply background? Visually it is very easy to determine what a region of
interest is and what is not. Doing so with a computer algorithm on the other hand is not so easy. How
do you determine what defines a region? What features distinguish one region from another? What
determines how many regions you have in a given image? Discontinuity and similarity/homogeneity
are two basic properties of the pixels in relation to their local neighbourhood used in many
segmentation methods. The segmentation methods that are based on discontinuity property of pixels
are considered as boundary or edges based techniques and that are based on similarity or homogeneity
are region based techniques. We have intentionally separated thresholding technique from region
based due the usage of histogram and its simplicity. A lot of limitations are faced while applying
segmentation namely:

Essay on History and Exploration of Villas
History and Exploration of Villas Villa is the Latin word for farm, and can also mean a large country

Woodchester Roman Villa in Gloucestershire compare with eighteenth century stately homes. They
sported lavish mosaic floors, wall paintings, marble statuary, columns and balustrades. But few
Romano British villas were as posh as this. The majority were considerably smaller and included

Another villa with a similar location is Bignor. It was located near Stane Street, for easy access to
Londinium. North Leigh Villa was located near Akeman Street, which was another major route in
Roman Britain. This makes Chedworth a typical villa as far as location goes. It was near a major
communications route, and had easy access to towns. It was also near a stream, and was built on an
intensely farmed piece of land. As H.H Scullard said of typical villas, One factor was dominant in
their choice of sites: their distance from the town. Villas were working farms, and, therefore had to be
in contact with their markets, so that their viability depended on their access to roads and towns .
There were many different types of villa. H.H Scullard described the four main types of villa as the
cottage, the winged corridor, the courtyard, and the aisled villa . Because it was hard to light the inside
of the villas, and land availability wasn t usually a problem, Roman Villas tended to be rows of rooms,
or wings. The simplest were one row, usually with a corridor. Then a pair of small wings might be
added we call this the winged corridor villa, which was very common. To make a house bigger, wings
would be extended around a courtyard. This is what happened to

Gertrude Stein
Movement and Space within Portraits and Repetition, by Gertrude Stein Gertrude Steins Portraits and
Repetitions, facilitates the paradigm of linguistic displacement between subject and listener delineated
by the dynamic and effectual relationship of the interrelated, rhythmic patterns characterized by the
idea of movement as existence. This conviction denotes the essence of mobility portrayed throughout
the text, the individual and collectives while commissioning itself through geographical space and
chronological time. Movement is a uniquely American quality; it is the existence of life. It is the
intangible rhythm of behaviors, traits and qualities revealed by the individual that creates a personal

The solution [,] funnily enough was the cinema. By a continuously moving picture of any one there is
no memory of any other thing and there is that thing existing, it is in a way if you like one portrait of
anything not a number of them. The collective movement from the shutters of the camera defines the
continuous succession of the statement of what that person was until [Stein] had not many things but
one thing : the material progression between text and identities achieved through uninterrupted
rhythmic constructions (294). While being able to consecutively merge the portraits identities and
variances, representation and reality also came together to assist in the textual unfolding of the
portrait, specifically, the immediate unmasking of the language attributable to the illustrated
relationship. Writing history within portraiture is thus, a gradual construction over space and time.
Portraiture is the arrangement of the qualities of movement, the geography of the insistence of seeing,
talking and listening. Stein is able to write portraiture successfully because she created a melody of
words that filled [her] with a melody that gradually made [her] do portraits easily by feeling the

MIXED THEORIES OF TORT LAW: AFFIRMING BOTH DETERRENCE AND CORRECTIVE
JUSTICE Gary T. Schwartza Copyright (c) 1997 Texas Law Review Association; Gary T. Schwartz
Introduction Currently there are two major camps of tort scholars. One understands tort liability as an
instrument aimed largely at the goal of deterrence, commonly explained within the framework of
economics. The other looks at tort law as a way of achieving corrective justice between the parties. If
these are alternative camps, they are also to a large measure unfriendly camps: much of the time each

In the early 1970s, the work of Guido Calabresi15 and Richard Posner16 precipitated what has proved
to be an explosion of scholarship analyzing tort law in economic terms and emphasizing deterrence as
a primary tort objective.17 One major school of legal economists claims that economics provides a
splendid and nearly complete account of the body of tort doctrine.18 *1804 As it happens, deterrence
had not played a significant role in traditional tort scholarship. When Landes and Posner expounded
their theory of deterrence as a basic tort objective, they reviewed the record of early tort writings to
determine what support they could find for this theory; they ended up merely reporting that with the

The Legal Consent Of Gestational Surrogacy
In this Brief, the petitioner Julie Williams will be referred to as Julie, Appellant. Respondent Jessie
Sampson will be referred to as Jessie, Appellee.
ARGUMENT ON APPEAL
This court should answer the question Does the court have the right to allow Jessie Williams to keep
her daughter despite her earlier contract of surrogacy ? Based on the legal binding gestational
surrogacy contract.
The Merits
At issue in this petition is whether the determination by the trial court, should the child be turned over
to Julie Williams. In light, of this judgement solely based on prior gestational agreement forms, Julie
Williams is requesting that the decision be overturned and the surrogate turn over the child.
Currently there are several federal statutes governing the disposition of gestational surrogacy. There is
Florida Statutes 742.14 Part One, which states prior to engaging in gestational surrogacy, binding and
enforceable gestational surrogacy contract for gestational surrogacy shall not be binding and
enforceable unless the gestational surrogate is 18 years of age or older. Except as provided the
gestational surrogate agrees to relinquish any parental right upon the child s birth, regardless of any
impairment of the child. In addition, the gestational surrogate also agrees to assume parental rights and
responsibilities for the child born to her if it is determined that neither member of the commissioning
couple is the genetic parent of the child.

Innovation And The Global Economy
Innovation can be expressed as the application of new ideas to the processes and products and all the
productive activities of an entity that can result to increased productivity and value. The new idea that
alters how products and services are offered has the potential of bringing benefit to all the stakeholders
within an enterprise. It is erroneous to assert that there is a correlation between the rising level of
unemployment in the global economy with innovation and technology. A single gadget that can
perform work that can be done by a group of individuals, but the benefit of innovation far outweighs
the few changes in operations that lead to reemployment and loss of jobs (Andersen 160). In a global
economy innovation has been a key factor that enabled companies to maintain their competitive edge,
increase and improve production and operation processes and generate adequate profits to remain in
business. Scholarly study and historical analysis have succinctly revealed that there is no connection
between innovation and unemployment (Barro 105). Innovation plays a big role in increasing
productivity and in the longterm it creates wealth. In economic, this wealth can be reallocated to other
sectors and firms to generate demand for labor for job seekers. It is imperative to recognize that the
savings that crop up through the application of new technology flows back to the economy directly or
indirectly, helping generate more opportunities. Innovation enables firms to lower

Employment At The United States
Employment at will
Employment at will is a common law that governs work relationships in most states in the U.S. The
rule states that if an employee is contracted by an employer for an indefinite period of time then the
contract can be terminated by either the employee or the employer at any time and for any given
reason unless there is another law in places that guide otherwise. This simply implies that if an
employee is hired under the at will law then the employer can fire the employee for any reason at any
time without prior warning or communication. An employee, on the other hand, may decide to leave
the job at any time without reason or prior warning. The At will employment became part of the
common laws for employment in the United States in the late 19th century. However, it has been
modified by many states in the recent past by adding a number of exceptions in order to protect
employees from unfair dismissal.
Exceptions to the Rule
The exceptions to the employment at will rule are meant to protect workers from wrongful termination
of their employment. This is provided to all employees covered by the federal law, state laws, CDAs,
public policy and employment contracts among other situations. The following are some of the major
exceptions to the employment at will doctrine.
Public Policy
The majority of the jurisdictions in the U.S recognize the existence of certain public policy guidelines
that limits the application of employment at will. Examples of such

The Importance Of Language And Literacy
Language is universal with many dialects across the world. Many people consider language as being
spoken or written, but it is much more than that. It can be viewed as unchanging and conventional, or
regarded as dynamic and changing. Language and literacy can be analysed and examined, broken
down to reveal how it is made up of all its intricate parts that form language. The impact of language
in different perspectives, affect people in their daily lives, either in a good or bad context. Language
has developed over time, and we now live in a digital world. This has affected people in a social and
business life, diversifying how language is communicated. Language has many functions and roles. In
the past, theorists have debated how language is developed, be it behavioural, cognitive or linguistic.
Language is a form of communication that it is a complex and a unique human quality that is
diversified throughout the world.
From the illustration of Language is very like a fish? (Grugeon and Gardner 2000, p105) it explores
the concept of language being likened to a fish. We can dissect language as a physical/material object
into sections, to further enhance our knowledge and understanding of the word language . Gee, P.
Hayes, E. (20011, p6) states that, We can view language as something physically present in the world.
It is present in the form of speech, audio recordings, and writings. In this sense language is a material
object . When we look around the classroom we can

Persuasive Essay On Cyberbullying
The twenty first century has held endless opportunities for people to explore and grow. It has brought
a developed internet, various forms of social media, and easier ways to communicate. People can now
search the web for things to buy, places to go, or sights to see. There are posts to comment on, places
to swipe right, and kitten videos to watch. There are also algorithms to record someone s key strokes,
programs to steal credit card information, and websites for sexual predators to attract their prey.
Although the internet has many great or positive uses, it also brings many awful, twisted people to the
table. No matter the form of these negative attacks, they can all be categorized as one thing:
cyberbullying.
Cyberbullying has become a very real and serious issue in the twenty first century. Many people want
to sugar coat these issues for what they truly are, but in reality, the internet is a never ending hole of
scams and hurtful posts. Cyberbullying can lead to the victim suffering with depression, anxiety, or
suicidal thoughts and actions. With consequences like these, steps need to be taken to reduce and
completely stop cyberbullying.
The importance of ending cyberbullying does not stop at the consequences it holds for the victims, but
because it does not occur to one specific group. Cyberbullying can happen to young children trying to
play their favorite computer game. A side pop up could appear from a stranger who wants to give the
child free ice cream or take

The main character, Blossom Edwards, is a young woman doing a traditionally man s job. Edwards
has to take over her uncle s taxi business to make ends meet for the family or they will do without the
basics necessities. Another instance of desperation Hamilton uses is of a young boy trying to get a taxi
ride on several occasions. We find he has to get home to take care of younger siblings and, if need be,
will walk many miles to do so. The body language of characters also creates a sense of pathos
throughout the piece. You can feel the discouragement, fear, desperation and happiness without a
single word from the characters. Danger is another effective tool this filmmaker puts in place for her
audience to create pathos. This is done with a news bulletin on the radio about shootings, an attack on
Edwards husband for wearing the wrong color shirt, and an intense scene involving a roadblock by
gunmen. But Hamilton gives us hope too. Edwards finally gives the young boy a ride despite the
danger that may be involved in doing so. She also pays the gunmen at the roadblock to let her pass
with the boy in her taxi rather than leaving him to an uncertain fate at their hands. And when the
election, the cause of all the tension, is over luminaires are sent up to signal a new beginning. Keeping
in mind, all the while this is all in a day s work for a young woman trying to feed her family.

The Impact of North American Writers on United States Citizens
When we ask ourselves what makes us American, we must look to our past. As a United States settler,

How Did Mark Morris Influence The World Of Dance
Dance is an ever evolving form of art; in much the same way that one can categorize and differentiate
between eras and styles of architecture one can also do so with dance. These eras at times have sharp
delineations separating them from their antecedents, other times the distinction is far more subtle.
Traditional forms of dance were challenged by choreographers attempting to expand the breadth and
increase the depth of performance; preeminent among such visionaries was Seattle born dancer and
choreographer Mark Morris. Mark Morris began as one of the millions of hopeful individuals
attempting to simply make a career in dance; he not only succeeded but managed to have a lasting

He is seen today as one of the most enduring forces in modern dance choreography, having pioneered

Casual Factors There are several causal factors that led to this event. The National Transportation

failure to discontinue the approach when severe thunderstorms and their associated hazards to flight
operations had moved in the airport area, and the crew s failure to ensure that the spoilers had

inclement weather are: (1) impaired performance resulting from miscommunication associated with
the intent to land under the circumstances, (2) continuation of the approach to a landing when the

use of reverse thrust greater than 1.3 engine pressure ratio after landing. (NTSB, 2001). Weather

once the selected network equipment such as router is available.

In this topology, a single cable is used to connect all the nodes/devices on the network. This cable is
also called the network backbone. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the traffic intensity between the nodes is large then this topology is preferable. In this topology,
a certain proportion of nodes have multiple paths to another destination node. Each of the traditional
network topologies (Bus, Ring, Star and tree network topologies) had only single path from message
source to message destination. Since Mesh Network topology provides multiple paths from source to
destination so that greatly reduces the probability of single point network failure. The advantage of
mesh network over other networks is that source node determines the best suitable route from source
to destination based on factors such as connectivity, speed and pending node activities. Mesh topology
is not cost effective, this proves to be a major disadvantage for setting up the network. Another
disadvantage of this type of network is the need of a routing algorithm by each node for path
computation. When each node in the network is directly connected to every other node then it is called
a full mesh. This type of network topology works best with small number of nodes in the network.
When some nodes in the network are indirectly connected to other nodes in the network then it is
called partial mesh. Figure 1 provides an example of both partial and full mesh

  • 2. Examples Of Lack Of Self Confidence In The Wizard Of Oz In today s society, there are about 6.375 billion people affected by a lack of self confidence, in other terms, this is about 85% of the world s current population of 7.5 billion people. Why does the majority of the world s population suffer from a lack of self confidence? There is a simple answer to this question, and it can be found in the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. Baum through the use of 3 characters portrays the lack of self confidence. Baum uses the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman and the Lion prove that a person/character s own strengths go un noticed by him/her. The way to reach these strengths would be through self confidence. The 85% of the world s population with a lack of self confidence do not realize that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It in fact was a possibility, allowing the rest of the travelers to climb the lion s back and make it across the ditch. Once across this ditch the group encountered another ditch to cross, which was so large, even the lion was unable to leap across. Realizing this the Scarecrow told the Tin Woodman to cut down a large tree from the close by forest and asked the Lion to push it down towards the ditch once it was cut. This created a bridge for not only the travelers to cross but also the dreaded Kalidahs. The Kalidahs are dreaded beats that were ferocious and could kill the lion if they wanted to and turning back the Lion realizes that there are two Kalidahs following them across the bridge. Once everyone gets across the bridge the Scarecrow instructs the Tin Woodman to cut down the part of the tree that lay on their side of the bridge. Doing this had caused the tree to fall, taking both the Kalidahs down into the ditch. Shortly after the Scarecrow had helped the group cross two ditches and saved everyone s life, was he faced with another small problem, how to get across the river. The Scarecrow made easy work of this and asked the Tin Woodman to cut down trees and make rafts for them. The Scarecrow had proved everything he had said about himself wrong through these actions. All these situations happened in one chapter and there is a couple more in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Day Of The Desert Three o clock in the morning and I do not want to be here, sitting out on a concrete pad in the middle of the desert for the last two hours. I should be a little more specific; I m on the flight line at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, waiting for my final flight into Tallil Air Base, Iraq. I grab my fourth bottle of water to quench my thirst; the dry heat killing me. I thought it would be cooler here in the evening, nope a nice 89 degrees. Feels more like 103 I contribute this to the fourty pounds of military gear I am wearing. Not comfortable at all; the heavy flak vest, causing my shoulders to ache and on top of that a sore neck because of the two and a half pound helmet. Boredom set in an hour and a half ago since there is nothing to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Second rule, touch nothing and followed the directions of the crew, after that I lost interest. Good rules, I know nothing about flying and I am good at taking orders, so I will fit right in. I peered inside the belly of the aircraft to see what type of accommodation it offered. Sparse lighting, but I could make out four rows of orange jump seats, one row on each side facing the center and two in the center facing the wings. The seats located toward the front of the plane, toward the back the cargo area. Shiny aluminum or gray metal peered back from the inside of the aircraft; so utilitarian. Military stencil here and there, nets, straps and electrical wiring running along the walls. Briefing completed, the loadmaster directed us to grab a seat and make sure we distributed ourselves evenly to balance the weight out. I choose my canvas seat with its net backing closes to the window, once everyone settled; I had no room to move around. This is going to be a long and painful flight with these seats. Four pallets of equipment were loaded toward the tail of the aircraft, and then the hatch raised making a hydraulic buzz. Completing his checklist items the loadmaster gave the O.K. to the pilot, he gave a thumbs up to one of the crewmembers and the first of four turboprop engines started up. Even with earplugs I could hear the engines whine as it slowly turned into a low hum, three more added to the noise. The hum became more intense as we started to taxi out ... • 4. Advantages Of Linear Dynamic Analysis 1.3.2 Linear dynamic analysis = for tall buildings, buildings with torsional irregularities, or non orthogonal systems, a dynamic procedure is required. In the linear dynamic procedure, the building is modelled as a multi degree of freedom (MDOF) system with a linear elastic stiffness matrix and an equivalent viscous damping matrix. Linear dynamic analysis is carried out by two methods: Response spectrum method Elastic time history method The corresponding internal forces and displacements are determined using linear elastic analysis. The advantage of these linear dynamic procedures with respect to linear static procedures is that higher modes can be considered. However, they are based on linear elastic response and hence the applicability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In nonlinear dynamic analyses, the detailed structural model subjected to a ground motion record produces estimates of component deformations for each degree of freedom in the model and the modal responses are combined using schemes such as the square root sum of squares. The non linear properties of the structure are considered as part of a time domain analysis. This approach is the most rigorous, and is required by some building codes for buildings of unusual configuration or of special importance. However, the calculated response can be very sensitive to the characteristics of the individual ground motion used as seismic input; therefore, several analyses are required using different ground motion records to achieve a reliable estimation of the probabilistic distribution of structural response. Loperamide or Imodium, is a common over the counter (OTC) drug primarily used for the treatment of diarrhea. As a synthetic µ opioid receptor agonist, loperamide increases intestinal transit time by decreasing intestinal motility and modifies intestinal transport of water and electrolytes by stimulating absorption, all which are beneficial in the treatment of diarrhea.1 However, what makes loperamide truly attractive is its lack of the analgesic effects in therapeutic and supra therapeutic doses.1 All this is true, when loperamide is taken as directed. Unfortunately, it is not being taken as directed and has had serious negative health outcomes for those misusing and abusing it. When conducting studies to quantify loperamide s abuse potential, the maximum dose used was 60mg,2 it never occurred to us, that mega daily doses of up to 400mg would ever be used.3 Sadly, this is the reality of the times in which we live in and if pharmacists are to be of help, we must quickly adapt. Obviously opioid misuse is not a new thing, and is definitely not exclusive to a particular geographic location.4 Opioid policies and regulations set in place to limit and restrict physicians prescribing, though with good intent, have created a complex pool of patients that turn to other sources of opioids5. Loperamide s abuse and misuse is potentiated by its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Cyberterrorism Introduction Prevalent to the current trend now is the dependency of the society on Information technology and communication systems. Every aspect of human life is one way or the other linked and controlled by information technology tools. The importance of information technology cannot be over emphasized as its unavailability could lead to a form of disaster or the other. Pivotal infrastructures like finance, healthcare, education and security are driven by information technology. However, information technology and its benefits are accompanied by vulnerabilities and risks that can be exploited by people with the necessary technical skills. Individuals like Hackers and Cyber Terrorist can cause disruption to information systems, commit financial fraud and also attack computers and networks. These attacks and disruptions could result to violence against people and properties. In some cases, death, serious injuries and severe economic loss could occur as a result of these attacks. What is Cyberterrorism? A lot of opinions and meanings has been given to the word Cyberterrorism . Some of these meanings and definitions varies. In this light, Gordon and Ford (2003) are concerned that when 10 people define cyberterrorism and nine of the given answers are different, and these 10 people represent different government agencies tasked with safeguarding national assets and infrastructure, then it becomes a critical issue. According to Furnell and Warren (1999), Evidence suggests that technology is growingly seen as a potential tool for terrorist organizations and the widespread use of information technology by terrorist groups and organizations has led to the birth of a new class of menace termed Cyberterrorism . Cyberterrorism could be used in many diverse ways. Sometimes, a country s pivotal infrastructures could be shut down and harmed using computer network and tools. There have been impediments in trying to give a clear and concise definition to the term cyberterrorism . But Denning (2007) which supersedes Denning (2000) gives an unambiguous definition to cyberterrorism: Cyberterrorism is generally understood to refer to highly damaging computer based attacks or threats of attack by non state actors against ... Certainly I agree with you it was a terrible thing that her soldiers and sailors didn t get paid, especially after the Spanish Armada, when many sailors were reduced to begging. and by the end of her reign the standard of living for the common people of England was at it s lowest ever. But she manage to keep her throne for forty five years which makes her a good Queen in the sense that she was a survivor, and at the beginning at any rate she did attempt to be tolerant of other religions, while virtually creating the Church of England and settling the religious question. The King of Spain at that time was called Phillip, and he had previously asked Elizabeth to marry him, but she had refused. He grew more annoyed with her because they belonged to different religions, and she had encouraged her pirate s to raid Spanish ships, amongst other reasons. Eventually, he prepared an Armada to attack England, but it failed and the Spanish returned home. I think that Elizabeth could have behaved with a little more diplomacy to avoid war, and she didn t actually help to defeat the Spaniards, although she did make a very stirring speech to her troops, which started, I may have the body of a weak and feeble woman, but I have the heart and stomach of a great king. Also, lots of her injured soldiers who returned home alive were not paid and were left to beg in the streets for the remainder of their lives, although that might be a different issue. So basically I do think that Elizabeth deserved the title, Good Queen Bess, because she was very innovative and forward thinking for her time, and wasn t too cruel for her time. This is the first security check point after the passengers receive their boarding passes, and it separates the passengers from the non passengers. It is one of the most important security features, as right after this check point, the passengers have to go through the customs, and it officially shows that they are leaving the country. Other security features includes the final check at the arrival. At the arrival hall, there were two separate lanes to the exit, one for the passengers with nothing to declare and the other one for passengers with items to declare. Passengers are required to declare if they possess items that are prohibited in Singapore, such as arms and explosives, bullet proof clothing, antique guns, toy guns and swords. Such items would require authorisation from the Police Licensing Regulatory Department of the Singapore Police Force. Another security feature would be the policemen armed and on patrol. With the policemen patrolling, it would allow the passengers to feel safer and the police will be able get to work as soon as possible, in case of any threats. Do you agree with his comments and suggested methods of managing analysis of risks? In The failure of risk management why it s broken and how to fix Hubbard has put a very good argument regarding the failure of old risk management techniques. Hubbard has tried to show how the risk management methodologies and techniques used currently by many organisation lack scientific and mathematical approach towards risk management. Hubbard has asked 3 basic questions in his book based on the several risk management methodologies 1. Do these risks management methods work? 2. Dose the organisation s using these methods know if these methods didn t work? 3. What are the consequences if they didn t work? In my opinion Hubbard has put the very strong argument in his book, as many organisations have adopted risk management systems. But the problem is, the systems are not backed up by measurable scientific results and often can actually make things worse. After reading the text I don t think that Hubbard is being contemptuous of the risk management practices but he is trying to identifying new ways of better utilising these methods. After reading the book we can see that Hubbard is a strong advocate of quantitative risk management techniques such as Monty Carlo simulation. • 10. Conflict Theory And Symbolic Interactionism Sociology is the function of the human society, and social problems among us. There are three different theories that I will be discussing in this essay. The theories are symbolic interactionism, The conflict theory and functional analysis perspectives. These perspectives help make up the way society thinks as a whole. All three of these perspectives are alike, as much as they are different. Symbolic interactionism helps explain both of our individual personalities and the ways the human society is linked together (p.27). It also helps us differentiate social order and change through a process. The teachings of symbolic interactionism comes mostly from George Herbert Mead But,George was not the only one that influenced the thoughts and ideas of symbolic interactionism. Symbolic interaction is theoretical perspective so it is still changing and evolving. It also has four kinds of understandings in the population and environment. One of the understandings is that symbolic interactionism is to understand why people engage or do not engage in social growth of the population . Symbolic Interactionism assumes that people from different social backgrounds, and different cultures may see different social issues within their social community. Humans have lapses in judgement that can hurt them and others. Some people believe you can be redeemed and can put your wrongs behind you, these people are kind and generous. Others believe you have one chance to get it right, these people are often angry and judgmental. There are also those who believe that someone can t be redeemed, but begin to realize that people can change. By looking at the Bishop, Javert, and Jean Valjean and their actions it becomes clear that Les Miserables is a book about redemption coming to those who did wrongs in their past and the behaviors of those who believe and don t believe. Lycidas Poem Analysis The Crisis of Lycidas Absent Body Lycidas is a pastoral elegy in which the speaker, a shepherd, mourns the death of his friend Lycidas, a fellow shepherd and talented poet, who had drowned at sea. However, as the poem progresses, the figure of Lycidas fades into the background as the writing of the poem becomes overwhelmed by the various crises that the speaker experiences and other poetic voices those of Phoebus and St. Peter, for instance interrupt. The ninth verse paragraph of Lycidas marks the poem s return to its elegiac intent as the speaker experiences another crisis in which he laments Lycidas absent body, a recurring element which, when addressed by the speaker directly, allows the speaker to properly mourn and accept Lycidas death. The ninth verse paragraph begins with a plea, Return, Alpheus (132), Alpheus being a river in Arcadia whose waters mix with the fountain Arethuse, referenced earlier in the poem to represent Greek pastoral poetry. The speaker persuades Alpheus to return by stating that the dread voice is past (132) the dread voice being St. Peter, who in the previous verse paragraph interrupted the speaker s voice with a vicious condemnation of shepherds. The verse paragraph before was taken over by Neptune s herald, and the one before by Phoebus. As the poem progresses, it begins to move away from Lycidas to the point that the ninth verse paragraph is the first one since the fifth that mentions Lycidas, or Lycid (151), by name. By calling on Alpheus and the Sicilian Muse (133), the speaker recognizes that the elegy has veered from its original intent and he wishes to return to it. The speaker first does this by invoking the Sicilian Muse to call the vales (134) to gather a plants and flowers to adorn Lycidas dead body. The speaker specifically calls for primrose, crowtoe, jessamine, pansies, violets, woodbine, cowslips, amaranthus, daffodils, and laurels. • 23. Segmentation And The Domain Independent Partitioning Of An... Segmentation The important aim of image segmentation is the domain independent partitioning of an image into a set of disjoint regions that can be visually differentiated, homogeneous and meaningful with respect to some characteristics or computed property such as grey level, texture or colour to enable easy image analysis. Image segmentation is a useful tool in many realms including industry, health care, astronomy, and various other fields. Segmentation in concept is a very simple idea. Simply looking at an image, one can tell what regions are contained in a picture. Is it a building, a person, a cell, or just simply background? Visually it is very easy to determine what a region of interest is and what is not. Doing so with a computer algorithm on the other hand is not so easy. How do you determine what defines a region? What features distinguish one region from another? What determines how many regions you have in a given image? Discontinuity and similarity/homogeneity are two basic properties of the pixels in relation to their local neighbourhood used in many segmentation methods. The segmentation methods that are based on discontinuity property of pixels are considered as boundary or edges based techniques and that are based on similarity or homogeneity are region based techniques. We have intentionally separated thresholding technique from region based due the usage of histogram and its simplicity. A lot of limitations are faced while applying segmentation namely: ... They sported lavish mosaic floors, wall paintings, marble statuary, columns and balustrades. But few Romano British villas were as posh as this. The majority were considerably smaller and included houses, like Sparsholt, farmhouses with outbuildings where owners could only afford one mosaic. A villa wasn t just a building. The term ... North Leigh Villa was located near Akeman Street, which was another major route in Roman Britain. This makes Chedworth a typical villa as far as location goes. It was near a major communications route, and had easy access to towns. It was also near a stream, and was built on an intensely farmed piece of land. As H.H Scullard said of typical villas, One factor was dominant in their choice of sites: their distance from the town. Villas were working farms, and, therefore had to be in contact with their markets, so that their viability depended on their access to roads and towns . There were many different types of villa. H.H Scullard described the four main types of villa as the cottage, the winged corridor, the courtyard, and the aisled villa . Because it was hard to light the inside of the villas, and land availability wasn t usually a problem, Roman Villas tended to be rows of rooms, or wings. The simplest were one row, usually with a corridor. Then a pair of small wings might be added we call this the winged corridor villa, which was very common. To make a house bigger, wings would be extended around a courtyard. This is what happened to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The solution [,] funnily enough was the cinema. By a continuously moving picture of any one there is no memory of any other thing and there is that thing existing, it is in a way if you like one portrait of anything not a number of them. The collective movement from the shutters of the camera defines the continuous succession of the statement of what that person was until [Stein] had not many things but one thing : the material progression between text and identities achieved through uninterrupted rhythmic constructions (294). While being able to consecutively merge the portraits identities and variances, representation and reality also came together to assist in the textual unfolding of the portrait, specifically, the immediate unmasking of the language attributable to the illustrated relationship. Writing history within portraiture is thus, a gradual construction over space and time. Portraiture is the arrangement of the qualities of movement, the geography of the insistence of seeing, talking and listening. Stein is able to write portraiture successfully because she created a melody of words that filled [her] with a melody that gradually made [her] do portraits easily by feeling the melody of any one, all the while staying focused on the essence of the thing contained within itself (308). Page Keeton Symposium on Tort Law MIXED THEORIES OF TORT LAW: AFFIRMING BOTH DETERRENCE AND CORRECTIVE JUSTICE Gary T. Schwartza Copyright (c) 1997 Texas Law Review Association; Gary T. Schwartz Introduction Currently there are two major camps of tort scholars. One understands tort liability as an instrument aimed largely at the goal of deterrence, commonly explained within the framework of economics. The other looks at tort law as a way of achieving corrective justice between the parties. If these are alternative camps, they are also to a large measure unfriendly camps: much of the time each treats the other with neglect or even derision. The development of each scholarly ... When Landes and Posner expounded their theory of deterrence as a basic tort objective, they reviewed the record of early tort writings to determine what support they could find for this theory; they ended up merely reporting that with the benefit of hindsight, it is possible to find . . . prefigurings of the modern economic approach in Holmes s chapters on tort law and ... Based on the legal binding gestational surrogacy contract. The Merits At issue in this petition is whether the determination by the trial court, should the child be turned over to Julie Williams. In light, of this judgement solely based on prior gestational agreement forms, Julie Williams is requesting that the decision be overturned and the surrogate turn over the child. Innovation And The Global Economy Innovation can be expressed as the application of new ideas to the processes and products and all the productive activities of an entity that can result to increased productivity and value. The new idea that alters how products and services are offered has the potential of bringing benefit to all the stakeholders within an enterprise. It is erroneous to assert that there is a correlation between the rising level of unemployment in the global economy with innovation and technology. A single gadget that can perform work that can be done by a group of individuals, but the benefit of innovation far outweighs the few changes in operations that lead to reemployment and loss of jobs (Andersen 160). In a global economy innovation has been a key factor that enabled companies to maintain their competitive edge, increase and improve production and operation processes and generate adequate profits to remain in business. Scholarly study and historical analysis have succinctly revealed that there is no connection between innovation and unemployment (Barro 105). Innovation plays a big role in increasing productivity and in the longterm it creates wealth. In economic, this wealth can be reallocated to other sectors and firms to generate demand for labor for job seekers. • 32. Employment At The United States Employment at will Employment at will is a common law that governs work relationships in most states in the U.S. The rule states that if an employee is contracted by an employer for an indefinite period of time then the contract can be terminated by either the employee or the employer at any time and for any given reason unless there is another law in places that guide otherwise. This simply implies that if an employee is hired under the at will law then the employer can fire the employee for any reason at any time without prior warning or communication. An employee, on the other hand, may decide to leave the job at any time without reason or prior warning. The At will employment became part of the common laws for employment in the United States in the late 19th century. However, it has been modified by many states in the recent past by adding a number of exceptions in order to protect employees from unfair dismissal. Exceptions to the Rule The exceptions to the employment at will rule are meant to protect workers from wrongful termination of their employment. This is provided to all employees covered by the federal law, state laws, CDAs, public policy and employment contracts among other situations. The following are some of the major exceptions to the employment at will doctrine. It can be viewed as unchanging and conventional, or regarded as dynamic and changing. Language and literacy can be analysed and examined, broken down to reveal how it is made up of all its intricate parts that form language. The impact of language in different perspectives, affect people in their daily lives, either in a good or bad context. Language has developed over time, and we now live in a digital world. This has affected people in a social and business life, diversifying how language is communicated. Language has many functions and roles. In the past, theorists have debated how language is developed, be it behavioural, cognitive or linguistic. There are posts to comment on, places to swipe right, and kitten videos to watch. There are also algorithms to record someone s key strokes, programs to steal credit card information, and websites for sexual predators to attract their prey. Although the internet has many great or positive uses, it also brings many awful, twisted people to the table. No matter the form of these negative attacks, they can all be categorized as one thing: cyberbullying. Cyberbullying has become a very real and serious issue in the twenty first century. Many people want to sugar coat these issues for what they truly are, but in reality, the internet is a never ending hole of scams and hurtful posts. Cyberbullying can lead to the victim suffering with depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts and actions. With consequences like these, steps need to be taken to reduce and completely stop cyberbullying. The importance of ending cyberbullying does not stop at the consequences it holds for the victims, but because it does not occur to one specific group. Edwards has to take over her uncle s taxi business to make ends meet for the family or they will do without the basics necessities. Another instance of desperation Hamilton uses is of a young boy trying to get a taxi ride on several occasions. We find he has to get home to take care of younger siblings and, if need be, will walk many miles to do so. The body language of characters also creates a sense of pathos throughout the piece. You can feel the discouragement, fear, desperation and happiness without a single word from the characters. Danger is another effective tool this filmmaker puts in place for her audience to create pathos. This is done with a news bulletin on the radio about shootings, an attack on Edwards husband for wearing the wrong color shirt, and an intense scene involving a roadblock by gunmen. But Hamilton gives us hope too. Edwards finally gives the young boy a ride despite the danger that may be involved in doing so. She also pays the gunmen at the roadblock to let her pass with the boy in her taxi rather than leaving him to an uncertain fate at their hands. And when the election, the cause of all the tension, is over luminaires are sent up to signal a new beginning. The captain and 10 passengers were killed; the first officer, the flight attendants, and 105 passengers received serious of minor injuries; and 24 passengers were not injured. The airplane was destroyed by impact forces and a post crash fire. Flight 1420 was operating under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CRF) Part 121 on an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight plan. Contributing Casual Factors There are several causal factors that led to this event. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) determined that the probable causes of this accident were the flight crew s failure to discontinue the approach when severe thunderstorms and their associated hazards to flight operations had moved in the airport area, and the crew s failure to ensure that the spoilers had extended after touchdown. Contributing factors of the flight crews determination to land in the inclement weather are: (1) impaired performance resulting from miscommunication associated with the intent to land under the circumstances, (2) continuation of the approach to a landing when the company s maximum crosswind component was exceeded, (3) failure of the spoilers to deploy, and (4) use of reverse thrust greater than 1.3 engine pressure ratio after landing. Logical network topology deals with representation of data flow between nodes which can be dynamically reconfigured once the selected network equipment such as router is available. In this topology, a certain proportion of nodes have multiple paths to another destination node. Each of the traditional network topologies (Bus, Ring, Star and tree network topologies) had only single path from message source to message destination. Since Mesh Network topology provides multiple paths from source to destination so that greatly reduces the probability of single point network failure. The advantage of mesh network over other networks is that source node determines the best suitable route from source to destination based on factors such as connectivity, speed and pending node activities. Mesh topology is not cost effective, this proves to be a major disadvantage for setting up the network. Another disadvantage of this type of network is the need of a routing algorithm by each node for path computation. When each node in the network is directly connected to every other node then it is called a full mesh. This type of network topology works best with small number of nodes in the network. When some nodes in the network are indirectly connected to other nodes in the network then it is called partial mesh. Figure 1 provides an example of both partial and full mesh ...
