Database And Unstructured Data Of A Business Perspective
1. Introduction
Nowadays, terabytes to petabytes of data that is been stored and transmitted by numerous sources and
organizations have realized that these data contain tangible value that has the potential to change the
fortunes of a business. Top firms leverage their business through the valuable insights gained through
these data to assist them in their decision making process. The huge chucks of data consists structured,
semi structured and unstructured data. Organizations have switched their focus more on exploring
semi structured and unstructured data that is generated through social media activities, personal media
information and geo location data.

In addition to its flexibility, these databases provides horizontal scalability and distributed computing
that led to adoption of NoSQL databases in the firms. The SQL databases uses Structured Query
Language whereas NOSQL databases use Unstructured Query Language which varies from database
to database.
1.2 Features of NoSQL Databases:
Schema on Read: There is no definite schema on the underlying data in the databases and it leads to
high flexibility on the storage
Nonrelational: In traditional databases there are relations between the tables. For example, a list of
transaction details can be connected to a separate list of delivery details. With a NoSQL database, this
information is stored as an aggregate a single record with everything about the transaction, including
the delivery address
Commodity hardware: With a NoSQL database, cheap commodity hardware can be used. Adding
more of these cheap servers allows NoSQL databases to scale to handle more data.
Highly distributable: With a NoSQL database, a cluster of servers can be used to hold a single large
database
2. Different Types of NOSQL databases
There are many types of non relational databases but more often than not, they fall under one of the
following categories:
2.1 Document Model
In a document model, data is stored in documents. This uses a type of notation called JSON
(JavaScript Object Notation) and is closely associated with the object

Persuasive Speech Outline
Persuasive Speech Outline (Using Monroe s Motivated Sequence)
Topic: Voting in Election
Specific Purpose: To persuade the audience to vote in democratic elections to voice out their opinions
and beliefs regardless of their background, to decide for their future, and to preserve the essence of
democracy.
Attention: * Provide a vivid description of people struggling to fight for their voting rights in certain
countries. * Share relevant facts /statistics of how a small number of votes could have change the
course of history in certain countries:
I. In year 1867, one vote gave United States the state of Alaska. The 1867 purchase of Alaska was
approved by the Senate of America by the margin of just one vote paving the way ... Show more

* Ask the audience: When people in other countries are struggling to fight for voting rights, why are
we not exercising our rights, wasting it away to nothing?
Need A. Voting allows people to voice out their opinions and beliefs regardless of background.
Voting gives the population an equal opportunity completely blind of sex, race, origin, education in
contributing to community development (Akande, 2011).
B. Voting allows people to decide for their own futures.
If people do not vote, it would lead the country to a very vulnerable and perilous position due to
incompetent and irresponsible leaders. Not voting during an election is voting indirectly against
democracy and making way for irresponsible leaders (Akande, 2011).
C. Voting preserves the essence of democracy.
Voting is the foremost way to exhibit good citizenship and civil responsibility. People should get
involved in elections and educated in all political measures. By this they become good and responsible
participatory citizens. It should always be remembered that some people sacrifice their lives to
preserve the freedom and voting opportunity as a sacred right. True democracy demands the
involvement of the people otherwise in absence of that there is no democracy(Akande, 2011).
Satisfaction: I. If people vote in elections, it would reduce corruption, reduce poverty and inequalities
and lead to a better and more efficient government.

Identity And Truth In Shutter Island And Bart Layton s The...
Martin Scorsese in his 2010 film Shutter Island and Bart Layton in his 2012 documentary The
Imposter incorporate conventions of the genre, film and documentary techniques, stylistic features
such as narrative perspective, characterisation and camera angles to explore how people s perception
of identity and the truth can be manipulated. Both texts entail a similar chronological narrative
structure although in different forms, for example, Shutter Island uses dreams and flashbacks,
comparatively, The Imposter uses reenactments to show the viewers events that have already
happened. Shutter Island shares the story of a man shrewdly manipulated to protect him from the
truth, while The Imposter investigates the way truth can be manipulated and ... Show more content on

Layton has targeted a wider audience as mature viewers would be more interested in documentary and
factual events, although Layton was aiming to intend his documentary at a younger target audience
which was intentionally High School students ranging from years 10 12. Whereas, in Shutter Island
older viewers ranging from 50 to 60 may not enjoy the storyline and theme of the film. The gender of
the audience viewing The Imposter and Shutter Island can be either male and female as these texts are
for both genders as these texts are for any individual who enjoys mystery, wanting to problem solve
and guess what will happen next. Thinkers will enjoy Shutter Island and The Imposter as these texts
involve the audience to think about the concepts overall, also people who enjoy harrowing and
complex films will find these texts exhilarating as they will be on edge of their seats wondering what
would happen next.
Narrative perspective Technique one
Scorsese and Layton both use narrative perspective and narrative structure to reveal their central ideas
in a way that would leave the audience with many unanswered questions. While both texts follow a
chronological structure, building the audience s belief that what they are seeing is the truth, the
directors use flashbacks or reenactments, to gradually reveal parts of the plot or back story. However,
while Scorsese uses dreams and flashbacks to reveal images and experiences in Teddy s past, which

The Original Thirteen Colonies The original 13 colonies were established in 1607.
Virginia/Jamestown was the first followed by, in chronological order, Massachusetts, New Hampshire,
Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, New
Jersey, Pennsylvania and Georgia. These colonies were governed by the British until the
Revolutionary War. The thirteen colonies were divided into three groups based on geography: New
England Colonies, Middle Colonies, and Southern Colonies. The New England Colonies were New
Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. The Middle Colonies were New York, New
Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The Southern Colonies were Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina,

The reason the upper class settled in the Southern colonies was because of the large and very valuable
tracts of land available for farming. It was advantageous to settle in the south because of the perfect
climate for farming and growing cash crops. In 1607, King James 1 split the Atlantic seaboard into
two distinct areas. He gave the southern half to the London Company and the northern half to the
Plymouth Company. A total of 144 ships were sent by the London Company to settle. They established
the settlement called Jamestown. It was at first not an easy adventure. The settlers primary focus was
on finding gold. While they were so consumed with finding gold, they were not producing any exports
to bring money to them and often times barely had enough food for survival. Virginia began growing
tobacco. This proved to be a very profitable crop for them, but it was also their main source of income
and they relied heavily on it. Virginia had a lot of slaves, at first mostly white indentured servants who
helped in the tobacco fields. However, later Virginia became a true slave society with slaves from
Africa. White male landowners held most of the power. These white men controlled the government
and belonged to the Church of England. In 1775, Virginia ended up becoming a royal government,
meaning the colonial government was appointed by the crown. Religious tolerance took a while to
prosper in Virginia. There was a high influx of Anglicans in this colony and they were legally required
to attend church services in the beginning. Taxes were collected to support the church. On Sundays,
both business affairs and church series were conducted (B. Wolfe). Virginia s climate consisted of hot
and humid summers and moderate winters. The hot, humid climate made conditions optimal

Comparing The Lottery In Babylon And The Library Of Babel
Jorge Luis Borges was a Spanish speaking Argentinian writer who wrote many influential short stories
over the course of his long life time. Much of Borge s writings are works of fictions that deal with
philosophies, religion, libraries, and even the concept of infinity. Borges would often publish multiple
stories at a time in collections. One of Borges s collections was titled The Garden of Forking Paths,
which features eight short stories, published in 1941 in the Argentinian journal Sur. Two of the stories
featured in The Garden of Forking Paths, The Lottery in Babylon and The Library in Babel very
interesting to me. The Lottery in Babylon tells of a country where your life is dependent on the lottery.
The Library in Babel is the story of a library that contains infinite rooms and all possible books. Both
of Borges s stories The Lottery in Babylon and The Library of Babel deal with a metaphorical world
view that is different from the one we are used to, however The Library of Babel is ... Show more

The universe (which others call the Library) is composed of an indefinite, perhaps infinite number of
hexagonal galleries. In the center of each gallery is a ventilation shaft, bounded by a low railing
(Borges, 112). The fact that frightens me the most is that people seem to use the term universe and
library interchangeably. People in this universe have become so determined to have a record of all of
man s knowledge, that civilization has dwindled down to almost nothing. The narrator of this story
only talks about men, and as there are no women, there is no way to reproduce, or continue the
livelihood of anyone. Borges talked about two axioms for the library. Axioms are statements or
propositions that are regarded as true, even though they cannot be proven or disproven. First: The
Library has existed ab æternitate. [...] Second: There are twenty five orthographic

Nursing Impairment
Nowadays, the preferred pathway for a nurse discovered at work under the influence of drugs or
alcohol is support and treatment rather than being fired on the spot. The intended goal is that after
treatment and rehabilitation the nurse may eventually return to work. But a vital element in this plan is
early intervention.
We have already noted that for evidence of impairment at work to appear, the use of the substance
may have been going on for quite some time. So, in aiming for a successful outcome the clock is
already an enemy.
As we look at some of the signs that may indicate impairment through substance use, now seems a
good time to remind ourselves that substance abuse may not be the only possible explanation for the
impairment. But whatever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The IPN was: established in 1983 through legislative action to ensure public health and safety through
a program that provides close monitoring of nurses who are unsafe to practice due to impairment as a
result of misuse or abuse of alcohol or drugs, or both, or due to a mental or physical condition which
could affect the licensee s ability to practice with skill and safety. (Intervention Project for Nurses
[IPN], n.d. b. para. 1)
The realization that, when suffering from a substance use disorder, a nurse deserves the same care and
treatment that we would offer to anyone else has led to the development of these alternative to
discipline programs around the country, and in Florida it is the IPN.
Its programs allow nurses to receive treatment and rehabilitation in a non punitive manner. If the nurse
agrees to withdraw from practice and complete the program the IPN will then facilitate the successful
return of that nurse to practice, all the while maintaining confidentiality even from the Board of
Nursing.
However, if a nurse agrees to these conditions and then reneges, the IPN will forward the file to the

Analysis Of The Book The Wild By Jon Krakauer
On June 13, 1971, the New York Times headline read, Vietnam Archive: Pentagon Study Traces 3
Decades of Growing U.S. Involvement . Days earlier, Daniel Ellsberg provided the newspaper with
excerpts from a 7,000 page classified study that became known as the Pentagon Papers. Just over 20
years later, moose hunters found the decaying remains of an adventurer in the Alaskan wilderness. The
remains were concluded to be those of Chris McCandless, an affluent 20 something from Virginia,
who wound up dead following his two year long self righteous odyssey. Author Jon Krakauer wrote an
article on McCandless for Outside magazine, which later disseminated into a novel titled Into the

Ellsberg s case was later dismissed due to government mishandling and illegally obtained evidence by
The Plumbers who later played a factor in the Watergate scandal and Nixon s resignation. As Wayne s
World hit the silver screens across the US, Chris McCandless perished in an abandoned bus in the
Alaskan wilderness. McCandless journey began with the purpose of living a minimalist lifestyle and
finding his true self. Alaska was the final destination in the 22 year old s self righteous odyssey that
spanned two years. After graduating from Emory University, McCandless cut all ties with his family
and changed his name to Alexander Supertramp. His new identity alludes to his goal to be the superior
vagabond as he traverses across the country. McCandless motivation for his odyssey was to retaliate
against societal norms and live a minimalist lifestyle. Chris led this type of lifestyle to limit
attachment and affection that would lead to heartbreak and resentment, and because of this, Chris
never created a solid relationship with anyone. Chris McCandless journey into the wild was fueled by
a disaffection to society s accepted norms and his goal to uphold his principles at all costs.
Daniel Ellsberg and Chris McCandless share common ground in their natural talent for academia and
in their post secondary educational pursuits. According to Ellsberg s biography on Biography.com,

Analysis Of John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
The book that I am currently reading is a book by John Steinbeck which is called Of Mice and Men.
Lennie has interacted with others in this book by being sarcastic, clever, and funny towards other
people, unraveling the conflicts and the personal difficulties Lennie has had to go through in his life,
but he mostly interacts with George because he is his best friend and will never leave his side. These
interactions with others will unravel the author s purpose for writing this book because the main
character is very lonely and this book talks a lot about loneliness in my opinion. An example of one of
these conversations or interactions is in the first chapter and in the second part. George unslung his
bindle and dropped it gently on the bank.

Comparing Moses And Clare s Journey
Considering both Moses and Clare s navigation through oppression, it is important to examine their
reflections at end of their journeys that resulted from their rebellion or lack thereof. For Moses, he
claims sorrowfully, I just lay there on the bed thinking about my life, how after all these years I ain t
got no place at all, I still the same way, neither forward nor backward (Selvon 129). After facing all of
the racial and gender barriers in London, Moses contemplates his experiences and acknowledges that
he has been stagnant. Selvon s use of commas in the place of periods creates a run on sentence that
seems to list all of Moses regrets.
Similar to how the sentence is like an incessant list, Moses s reflection and sorrow for his lack ...

Clare was originally supposed to be heavily suppressed given her circumstances, arguably even more
than Moses, as she had an autocratic father neglecting her black roots and was perceived as a naive
twelve year old girl incapable of doing anything. Nonetheless, she had confronted her limits that
society placed on her in pursuit of her identity, leading her to have the confidence to fire the gun. After
that incidence of defiance, her mother told her, When you are grown you can want anything you want.
You can be anything you want. A doctor. A teacher. But to get there you have to learn the rules. That
girls like you don t fire guns (Cliff 150). Unlike Moses whose narrative ends with regret, the end of
Clare s journey as rebel opens a new chapter for her where her possibilities are, according to her
mother, endless. However, their views on the path to success and fulfillment are quite different. Clare
s perspective on doing anything [she] wants is not defined by being in the workforce which is
suggested by her mom and is the route Moses took. Rather, Clare derives her pleasure from defying
these rules made for girls and finding her identity and the independence that follows, enabling her to
develop a greater sense of human

Snow Falling On Cedars And Snow Falling On Cedars
Becoming the Bridge Between Two Worlds Second generation immigrants are often forced to become
the bridge between two worlds, as their foreign parents hold on to cultural ties and traditions, while
the children grow up in a Western society with contrasting ways of life. The works the End of East by
Jen Sookfong Lee and the film Snow Falling on Cedars, directed by Scott Hicks, prove that a struggle
for identity can be overcome if one overlooks the dissimilarities between two cultures. As seen in both
works, the writers demonstrate how second generation immigrants are faced with the challenge of
finding their identities, as they feel torn between their cultural practices and the influences of their
Western upbringings; However, only after setting aside the differences that clash the two cultures are
they truly able to find a balance between the two and discover who they are. Firstly, both the End of
East and Snow Falling on Cedars involve second generation immigrant protagonists in North America
that struggle to keep their parents happy and preserve their culture, while continuing to live their lives
as individuals of the West. Hatsue, a Japanese American girl in Snow Falling on Cedars, grows up in
the West. Despite being brought up in North America, she is well aware that her mother strongly
believes in preserving the Japanese culture. Hatsue s mother wishes for Hatsue to honour their
traditional Japanese ways, and encourages her to marry one of [her] own kind and stay

Irish Identity And Poetry Of William Butler Yeats And...
William Butler Yeats is one of the most esteemed poets in 20th century literature and is well known
for his Irish poetry. While Yeats was born in Ireland, he spent most of his adolescent years in London
with his family. It wasn t until he was a teenager that he later moved back to Ireland. He attended the
Metropolitan School of Art in Dublin and joined the Theosophical Society soon after moving back. He
was surrounded by Irish influences most of his life, but it was his commitment to those influences and
his heritage that truly affected his poetry. William Butler Yeats s poetry exemplifies how an author s
Irish identity can help create and influence his work. Maud Gonne, an Irish nationalist and patriot, was
a huge muse to Yeats and his poetry. Her passion for Ireland and its freedom was a large part of the
reason why William Yeats was so passionate about the dealings in Ireland himself. Maud was born in
England but loved Ireland and believed strongly in its independence from Britain. Although she is
most known for her association with William Butler Yeats, she had many accomplishments herself.
She created the Daughters of Ireland. The Daughters of Ireland was an organization which provided a
home for Irish nationalist women and encouraged the study of: Gaelic, Irish literature, history, music
and art. Maud also went on a crusade to improve prison conditions after she suffered a brief
imprisonment herself. She even wrote a bestselling book herself called A Servant of the

Murder Mystery Play Research Paper
INITIAL REACTION GENERAL RESPONSE Choosing a play was definitely not easy, in fact, it was
probably the hardest part of this project for me. I am usually not one to dig into and enjoy plays very
much. I am more of a musical theater person, I love to sing and dance. However, when this project
was assigned I chose to think open mindedly and chose something a little bit out of my comfort zone.
Instead of picking a musical I love like Annie , Legally Blonde , or Hamilton. I chose a murder
mystery play called The Mousetrap. Going into the process I had a pretty good idea of what the play
was about, because I had seen it when Oconomowoc High School did it for their senior directed play
in 2015, and then I also saw it again in December of that year with my drama class when the
Milwaukee Rep did it. When I first say the play I loved it! I was so intrigued from the very beginning
and all the way to the last second. That very night that I saw the show I went home and looked it on
youtube and started to watch it again, and to be honest I rewatched it several times since then. After
seeing it I started promoting the show, and I went and told all of my friends that it was something they
had to go see and that it was written so brilliantly! ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Ethics Of Cloning Extinct Animals
In 1996, science made a breakthrough that changed the idea of cloning. The lamb Dolly was the first
successfully cloned mammal. After this people began to think that scientists would try cloning
humans. The technology and the funds are not there for those advances. Also, in some countries it is
not legal to do so. The next step was to clone extinct animals. This is also known as de extinction.
When evaluating the dilemmas that can come with cloning extinct animals, the person must look at the
purpose of the animal and what it could do today for us, the reason as to why it had became extinct
and how to prevent that again, and lastly the concept that if we had the animals, and we put them back,
and the world wasn t ready.

There are many animals that have went extinct due to humans in some way, shape, or form. If it is due
to our overpopulation and moving into new areas taking over other habitats, which could also be

announced as extinct as of last year, 2016. Others like the passenger pigeon, Chinese river dolphin,
wooly mammoth, and Tasmanian tiger are on the list of interest to begin working with their DNA.
Scientist would like to bring species back like these and do not plan to waste any time on others like
the T rex who has been gone for about 65 million years. First, the T rex is not needed in our present
ecosystem. Secondly, we do not have a living species that could lay an egg at that size. Their plan is to

species to the point that they are declining. The ecosystems have changed and our existing species are

The General System Theory For Understanding Modern...
The shift of research and theory models went through a major shift during the 1960s and 1970s when
the open systems perspective gained support as an embedded interdependent activities embedded in
and dependent on a wider environment. System theories of organization have two major conceptual
themes or components: (1) applications of Ludwig von Bertalanffy s general system theory to
organizations and (2) the use of quantitative tools and techniques to understand to understand complex
relationships among organizational and environmental variables and thereby to optimize decisions
(Shafritz, Ott, Jang, 2011). A system is an organized collection of parts interacting and designed to
accomplish specific organizational goals or purposes. The general system theory provides an
important perspective for understanding modern organizations. The systems theory views of an
organization as being complex set of interconnected elements, such as the inputs, processes, outputs,
and feedback loops, and the environment in which it operates and with which is continuously
interacts. System theorists are continuing to study the interconnections using organizational decision
processes and information and control systems as their focal points of analysis. The open systems
became the more dominate organizational theory during the 1960 s that the classical organization
theorists rationale was closed system that pursued the goal of economic efficiency. The open system

must remain competitive and increase profits. Will Bury developed technology that will allow him to
convert printed text to into a digital format for reading or an audio format for listening. Will Bury
holds the patent to his technology that makes his business a monopoly. This gives him an advantage
by creating a barrier to entry for competitors. Although he has had his business for a few years, Will
Bury has not been able to make it profitable enough to allow him to quit his full time job.
Additionally, he does not know how to market or price his product. Recommendations will be ... Show

Reducing Cost A successful business is always looking for ways to reduce its costs while increasing
its revenues. Several recommendations are made for Will Bury that will aid in reducing costs. He can
allow his employees to work from home. This will prevent overhead costs by avoiding the costs
associated with renting office space. Another recommendation is that Will Bury negotiate the price for
royalties to a lower rate as his product becomes more popular. Assumptions and Recommendations
Assumptions were made while determining recommendations for Will Bury. It is assumed that he is
running a monopoly and that he owns the patent to the technology he is using. If so these are barriers
to entry for others. Another assumption is that Will Bury will hire a full time employee who works 40
hours per week without benefits. It is also assumed that the cost of the current website Will is using is
$100 per month and that it would only cost $500 to build a new digitizer. It is recommend that Will
Bury hire an employee from the United States to allow for his oversight and to avoid any issues that
lack of involvement in this crucial stage of business may bring about. I also recommend that the price
for both the lapsed copyright material and the copyrighted material remain at the current price while
increasing marketing. The increased sales generated from the increased marketing

The Confederate Flag Is A Flag Of Hate
Is the Confederate flag really a flag of hate? Contrary to popular belief, the Confederate flag does not
stand for racism, it stands for freedom. It stands for the men who lost their lives fighting for a doomed
country, white and black. It stands for not letting others push you around and control you. I stands for
the bad side in the Civil War. It is the proof that despite the fact that we boast about being stubborn,
we are ignorant to the fact that all we do is follow the crowd. It represents a piece of history incredibly
rich, yet so full of sorrow, that we are trying to erase. But people do not see this, they only see hate,
and they are too oblivious to truly understand what this symbol of liberty stands for. This is why the ...

In fact, the Emancipation Proclamation states that only the slaves in the southern states were free,
about 25% of the original slave population was still legally allowed to be enslaved. Lincoln himself
admitted I would do it if I were not afraid that half the officers would fling down their arms and three
more states would rise. Meaning that he feared he would lose half his army (that all were anti slavery )
to the South, and three more states would rebel. This proves that he was more worried about losing the
war (and the base of the Union economy), than slavery continuing. Also, there was a higher mortality
rate for free slaves living in the north, this is why; factory work was one of the only jobs available to
immigrants and former slaves. The conditions were horrendous, and most of them died doing a job
that paid peanuts. If the Union was even more racist than the Confederacy, why did we become biased
against Confederates? Before the war, Nathan Bedford Forrest was one of the wealthiest men in the
south, he was a slave trader and he used slaves to grow and sell cotton. He started as a private in the
Civil War, but soon after joining, his military prowess was recognized and over the course of the war,
he rose to the rank of Lieutenant General. He was very talented, but ruthless, and he hated African
Americans. After the battle of Fort Pillow, he ordered his men to massacre the African American

Equality And The Democratic Republic
Equality and the overall social and economic condition of any country derives from leadership. There
is no such existence as a perfect government; however, institutions such as a democracy or the
republic, as we see in the United States, have come rather close. Our democratic republic has
established a system in which leaders and officials are chosen, directly or indirectly, by the people. In
order to succeed in gaining such a position of power, the ideology a leadership candidate transmits
must be appealing to undoubtedly, many of the general public. With that being said, throughout
history there have existed numerous examples of autocracies systems of government in which there
exists one supreme ruler, or a few people with total control.

Examples Of Racism In Huckleberry Finn
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is not a racist novel, nor is Mark Twain a racist author. As
Leopold Von Ranke said, You have reckoned that history ought to judge the past and to instruct the
contemporary world as to the future. The present attempt does not yield to that high office. It will
merely tell how it really was . The past had different norms and etiquette than today, and Twain was
merely putting the reader into the perspective of those times. One can t judge the past and judge Twain
s use of the word because in those days, the word was accepted, and not exactly racist . The novel was
a satire on slavery and racism, that, as well as raising social awareness, was also one of the best
American novels of all time. Huckleberry Finn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to put the reader into the perspective of the past and teach them how blacks used to be treated,
he had to use intense language and make harsh comments. Today, people have exceptional knowledge
and have been introduced to racism and what is considered wrong to mention . So the readers of Huck
Finn today jump to the conclusion that Twain is racist because the simplest [things] cannot be made
clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of
a doubt, what is laid before him (Leo Tolstoy). People already have a strong sense as to what racism
consists of, so Twain comes off as a racist right away by using remarks that people have been taught
their entire life are racial remarks.Twain introduced Jim as a comical, uneducated runaway slave,
which most people took offense to. The silly behavior of Jim is common for characters in historical
satires, which is most likely the reason for Twain s choice of Jim s appearance to the audience. Jim is
described to the readers as [trustworthy] to the point of gullibility. These qualities are not altered
during the course of the novel; instead, they are fleshed out and prove to be positives instead of
negatives (CliffNotes). Even though Twain depicted Jim as gullible, it shared the trustworthy and
friendship Jim had in Huck. It proved later in the book as a helpful tool, and played a key part in Jim s
character in the

The Fundamental Concepts Of Statistics
Question 5
This paper will provide a sample of the fundamental concepts in statistics. During research there is
usually variance between individuals within a group or between different groups. During hypothesis
testing the researcher wants to know if the sample of data collected is truly representative of the entire
population.
Null hypothesis testing is concerned with the correlation or differences in means (continuous data)
between groups. The null hypothesis works on the premise that there is no difference between two
groups such as males and females who respond to a set of items (independent sample T test). The null
hypothesis can also be described as the hypothesized mean being equal to the population mean. So the
null hypothesis is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whereas, if I fail to reject the null, because I believe the groups are the same when, in fact, they are
different this is a type 2 error. In its simplest terms, Type I error is the incorrect rejection of the null
hypothesis, whereas Type II is the incorrect acceptance of the null hypothesis.
Related to hypothesis testing is the Significance level or cut off point (alpha). The P or the probability
value is one of the indicators that can be used to test the null hypothesis. Usually a significance level =
.05 (95% confidence interval) or lower is the accepted rule for rejecting the null hypothesis. This
means that we will accept up to 5% of type 1 error. Also, P 0.01 sometimes is referred to as
statistically highly significant. If the p value is .05, then we would reject the null hypothesis. Visually,
on a bell curve (two tailed test) this can be presented as the critical region or how far our sample
statistic is from the null hypothesis. In relation to P values there is the confidence interval (or bound).
A 0.05 level of significance would be centered on a 95% confidence interval. If our given value sits
outside the bound we would reject the null. However, if our value sits within the interval we would not
reject the null hypothesis.
Another concern during research is the issue of sampling error due to only a portion of the population
being used during a study. Even when bias is reduced by random sampling the

What Are The Strengths And Weaknesses Of Coca Cola
Coca Cola is an extremely recognizable company. Popularity is one of its superior strengths that is
virtually incomparable. Coca Cola is known very well worldwide. It s branding is obvious and easily
recognized. Things like, logos and promos shown on t shirts, hats, and collectible memorabilia.
Without a doubt, no beverage company compares to Coca Cola s social popularity status. Some people
buy coke, not only because of its taste, but because it is widely accepted and they feel like they are
part of something so big and unifying. At the other end of the spectrum, certain individuals choose not
to drink coke, based solely on rebelling from the world s idea that coke is something of such great
power. Overwhelming is the best word to describe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However they do have a variety of weaknesses that need to be addressed if they want to rise to the
next level. Word of mouth is probably a strength and weakness of every company. While many people
have good things to say, there are many individuals who are against Coca Cola as a company, and the
products in which they produce. Word of mouth unfortunately is something that is very hard to
control. While people will have their opinions, you have to try to sway their negative views. If bad
comments and views are put out to people who have yet to try Coca Cola products, then that could
produce a lost customer which shows why word of mouth is a weakness. Another aspect that could be
viewed as a weakness is the lack of popularity of many of Coca Cola s drinks. Many drinks that they
produce are extremely popular such as Coke and Sprite but this company has approximately 400
different drink types. Most are unknown and rarely seen for available purchase. These drinks do not
probably taste bad, but are rather a result of low profile or non existent advertising. This is a weakness
that needs to be looked at when analyzing their company. Another weakness that has been greatly
publicized is the health issues that surround some of their products. It is known that a popular product
like coke is not very beneficial to your body and your health. With today s constant shift to health
products, some products could possibly loose

Paleolithic Era Research Paper
The Paleolithic Era consists of hunter gather societies. Living a nomadic lifestyle, the Paleolithic
people followed their PREY and used resources provided by the land. AS A RESULT, THEY WERE
ALWAYS MOVING SINCE they hunted mammoths, bison, deer, and rodents and gathered roots and
berries. The earliest humans used very rudimentary and basic tools for tasks like cracking open bones
and preparing animal hide. These tools were later improved on to help provide protection, food, and
clothing. By the end of the Paleolithic Era, the hominids made weapons for hunting and food
preparation, such as spears and the bow and arrow, out of bone and were creating more advanced
stone and wood structures. There is also evidence of fishing. The development of tools helped

Bands or tribes were formed when clans mixed with neighboring groups. Early tribes had a form of
government based chiefs and religious figures. They were the leaders of these early societies and had
the responsibility of keeping unity in the tribe. Many of the early tribes worshipped deities and had
numerous religious rituals. The sacrificing to gods, goddesses, and spirits is one example of the rituals
performed in the tribes. They also believed in an afterlife. Their dead can be found with items, such as
flowers and tools, which were possibly offerings to the dead. The people were known to be
spiritualistic and believed in animism. The idea that everything has a spirit was a part of animism, and
the way the spirits interacted caused natural occurrences like the weather. Within their communities

Class Action Litigation Act Of 2017
Introduction:
Class actions continue to be a hot bed for both litigation and legislation. Gaining traction in the Senate
is the Fairness in Class Action Litigation Act of 2017 (the Act ), which already passed in the House of
Representative by a vote of 220 to 201. But how significant is the Act? And how does it differ from
the current Rule 23 framework and the Class Action Fairness Act ( CAFA ) that was passed in 2005?
Early commentators have come out on both sides, some praising the Act s attempts to cut down on
unmeritorious litigation driven only by plaintiffs attorneys and third party funders, others viewing the
Act s new restrictions as a boon only to defendants. Regardless of how the Act is characterized, if
enacted in its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This often occurs in cases involving consumer products there can be thousands of people who have
not actually been injured but who are merely unhappy with a product, and they are allowed to be a
part of the class. An empirical study found that no injury class actions have resulted in approximately
$4 billion worth of settlements and judgments over the last decade alone.
The new requirement would especially impact securities fraud cases, where the range of investor
losses can differ between a few hundred dollars (for individuals) and hundreds of millions of dollars
(for institutional investors). Similarly, product liability claims would be more difficult to certify,
especially those involving pharmaceuticals, because the symptoms, latent period, and extent of
injuries often vary dramatically across class members.
This new requirement is the change most likely to have the biggest impact on how class actions
proceed, mainly because its language is vague and susceptible to differing interpretations. So, while
on the one hand, the addition of a new requirement may decrease the number of cases that are allowed
to proceed as class actions, on the other hand, there will likely be an increase in litigation dealing with
how type and scope should be interpreted.
Reliable and feasible method of distribution
The Act would add an additional requirement to class certification by requiring that the

Examples Of Manifest Destiny
Manifest destiny was a term used to describe the belief that United States settlers were destined to
expand across the nation. This concept not only affected American politics and government but the
public also. One of the first major examples of manifest destiny in the nineteenth century was Thomas
Jefferson s purchase of the Louisiana Territory. President Jefferson wanted to shrink the size of the
government and only use limited powers. However, his decision utilized a tremendous amount of
executive power, in which Federalists felt that he was wasting taxpayer money and abusing his
authority. Eventually, Jefferson believed that what he was doing was right because it would double the
size of the US for expansion. The Louisiana Purchase in 1803 drove both the population and the
economy to the west. Another example of manifest destiny in the United States was the Indian
Removal Act by President Andrew Jackson, which authorized him to reserve land west of the
Mississippi and exchange it for Native American land east of the Mississippi. Manifest destiny in the

destiny and America s desire to expand westward a conflict with Indian tribes arose. President Jackson
s Indian Removal Act fabricated a dispute between a portion of the Americans and the Indians. Some
tribes did not agree to move from their territories and as a result, wars broke out between them and the
US Government. Consequently, westward expansion caused many disputes between foreign countries

The Character Message in The Conjure Tales of Charles W....
Going back over the Goophered Grapevine and Po Sandy in The Conjure Tales of Charles W.
Chesnutt, I want to unfold the message Chesnutt is portraying through particular characters in these
stories. Is the message the critics see, the same as the reader? I feel like Chesnutt contradicts himself
in the conjure tales. By this I mean that he comes off to the reader as one thing, but he is interpreted by
literary critics as something else. I think the reason that Chesnutt s work seems contradictory is
because he has many voices throughout the stories and it is hard for the reader to distinguish which
voice belongs to Chesnutt. Should these stories be looked upon as mere entertainment or as something
else? According to Richard E. Baldwin, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
William Andrews saw that Chesnutt used the old time Negro model to create Uncle Julius (Chesnutt,
378). Looking at the Goophered Grapevine, one of the main characters, Julius, is seen as being a
trickster. He seems to lie in order to fulfill his own desires. The author is reaffirming the stereotypes of
blacks by using the character in this manner. Which is, they are liars and they will do anything to
achieve what they need or want. This is how the old slave was exploited. Although they were faithful
in years they were portrayed as willing to steal or kill to get what they needed. The reader is not
sympathetic with Julius in the two stories. The other two main characters are John, the narrator, and
his wife Annie. According to Duncan, John and Julius negotiate a new... relationship between two
previously isolated American voices: the black and the white, the rich and the poor, the North and the
South (Duncan, 78). John and his wife represent two sides of the white community; those who hold
the beliefs of the plantation school and those that are sympathetic with the Negro and their condition
(slavery, post slavery). It appears that Chesnutt made the narrator a white male for a reason. This is
done in order to articulate expressions of doubt [which] make him a suitable proxy for both the wary

The Professional Army As A Profession
The Professional Army
The term professional has always been loosely associated with the Army since its official organization
in 1775. The title of Army professional in the past was restricted to only the officer ranks discarding
Soldiers and the Non Commissioned Officers. The fluctuating opinions of the professional Army was
mostly due to social definitions of a professional, and the Army s ability to meet its criteria. The Army
is a profession because it requires specialized skills and human expertise, establishes ethical behavior
for its members, and contain members who embrace and are stewards of the culture. The Army is a
profession because it requires a collaboration of highly training Soldiers who possess specialized skills
that combine to operate in complex situations in more complex environments. General Martin
Dempsey stated that The Profession of Arms requires expert knowledge, and that expertise is
manifested as unique skills in the individual professional and by Army units. For the purpose of this
paper the operational definition of the term profession is: a type of job that requires special education
training, or skill. In order to meet and maintain the demands of this definition, The Army has
established the Army Development Model which consists of institutions, operational training, and self
development to create highly skilled service members. The Army has established institutions where

between the attendee s at these concerts, shows, festivals, or raves. Now that Electronic Music is
becoming the most popular genre for young adults and teens to listen to, the public cant help but be

clubs, and rock festivals in Belgium (Tina Van Havere). Their results found that the respondents who
used illegal drugs were 25 times more likely to report that they prefer dance music to any other genre

only problem now is that the scene is at a much larger scale and that it s kids who are doing it. There
have been many cases of deaths and overdoses in the past 5 years at these Electronic Music shows

Model Minority Theory
Stereotypes refer to the beliefs that make up the characteristics, attributes, and behaviors of members
within a specific group (Whitley, 2016). While stereotypes can serve as a way to make quick
judgements based on what we perceive, they can negatively affect those who are stereotyped.
Stereotypes regardless if they are good or bad can create harmful consequences by attributing
characteristics to people that simply aren t true. Many forms of racism and stereotyping pertaining to
Asian Americans are often neglected and require further attention to have these issues addressed
properly (Tummala Narra, 2018). These neglected forms of racism can potentially affect the physical

The Use of Salicylic Acid in Medicine
The medical field uses acids and bases all of the time because, our body uses acids and bases every
day to try to get the PH levels as neutral as possible in our bodies. The neutral PH level in our bodies
is 7.3.When your organs stop neutralizing acids and bases you need medical help. If the pH level goes
over an acidity or basic level it can be really dangerous. That applies to almost every reaction in your
metabolism. Due to the fact that our body needs, and produces acids and bases, I m going to touch on
three. The first Acid is Salicylic Acid, most people have probably heard if not used this common acid,
for acne, warts, dandruff, and much more. The base that I will be talking about, Hydrogen Peroxide is
used all the time typically for handling infected scrapes, burns and minor cuts. Last but not least is,
Alginate Acid, which is normally used or associated for packing a wound, but is actually quite
common, just unnoticed, like in your processed foods, and fire retardants. Without the use of acids and
bases in medicine, our pH levels in our bodies wouldn t be able to stay at a neutral 7.3 level.
Salicylic Acid is a common type of Acid used in the Medical world. This acid is used on the skin to
treat common skin blemishes, acne, dandruff, corn, calluses, and hand and foot warts. Salicylic acid,
will progressively peel off the wart, or reduce swelling, redness, and blocked pores for acne. Salicylic
acid is a keratolytic agent. It works and acts like an aspirin. It works

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... * Ask the audience: When people in other countries are struggling to fight for voting rights, why are we not exercising our rights, wasting it away to nothing? Need A. Voting allows people to voice out their opinions and beliefs regardless of background. Voting gives the population an equal opportunity completely blind of sex, race, origin, education in contributing to community development (Akande, 2011). B. Voting allows people to decide for their own futures. If people do not vote, it would lead the country to a very vulnerable and perilous position due to incompetent and irresponsible leaders. Not voting during an election is voting indirectly against democracy and making way for irresponsible leaders (Akande, 2011). C. Voting preserves the essence of democracy. Voting is the foremost way to exhibit good citizenship and civil responsibility. People should get involved in elections and educated in all political measures. By this they become good and responsible participatory citizens. It should always be remembered that some people sacrifice their lives to preserve the freedom and voting opportunity as a sacred right. True democracy demands the involvement of the people otherwise in absence of that there is no democracy(Akande, 2011). Satisfaction: I. If people vote in elections, it would reduce corruption, reduce poverty and inequalities and lead to a better and more efficient government. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Martin Scorsese in his 2010 film Shutter Island and Bart Layton in his 2012 documentary The Imposter incorporate conventions of the genre, film and documentary techniques, stylistic features such as narrative perspective, characterisation and camera angles to explore how people s perception of identity and the truth can be manipulated. Both texts entail a similar chronological narrative structure although in different forms, for example, Shutter Island uses dreams and flashbacks, comparatively, The Imposter uses reenactments to show the viewers events that have already happened. Virginia/Jamestown was the first followed by, in chronological order, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Georgia. These colonies were governed by the British until the Revolutionary War. The reason the upper class settled in the Southern colonies was because of the large and very valuable tracts of land available for farming. It was advantageous to settle in the south because of the perfect climate for farming and growing cash crops. In 1607, King James 1 split the Atlantic seaboard into two distinct areas. He gave the southern half to the London Company and the northern half to the Plymouth Company. A total of 144 ships were sent by the London Company to settle. They established the settlement called Jamestown. It was at first not an easy adventure. The settlers primary focus was on finding gold. While they were so consumed with finding gold, they were not producing any exports to bring money to them and often times barely had enough food for survival. Virginia began growing tobacco. This proved to be a very profitable crop for them, but it was also their main source of income and they relied heavily on it. Virginia had a lot of slaves, at first mostly white indentured servants who helped in the tobacco fields. However, later Virginia became a true slave society with slaves from Africa. White male landowners held most of the power. These white men controlled the government and belonged to the Church of England. In 1775, Virginia ended up becoming a royal government, meaning the colonial government was appointed by the crown. Religious tolerance took a while to prosper in Virginia. There was a high influx of Anglicans in this colony and they were legally required to attend church services in the beginning. Taxes were collected to support the church. On Sundays, both business affairs and church series were conducted (B. Wolfe). Virginia s climate consisted of hot and humid summers and moderate winters. • 8. Comparing The Lottery In Babylon And The Library Of Babel Jorge Luis Borges was a Spanish speaking Argentinian writer who wrote many influential short stories over the course of his long life time. Much of Borge s writings are works of fictions that deal with philosophies, religion, libraries, and even the concept of infinity. Borges would often publish multiple stories at a time in collections. One of Borges s collections was titled The Garden of Forking Paths, which features eight short stories, published in 1941 in the Argentinian journal Sur. Two of the stories featured in The Garden of Forking Paths, The Lottery in Babylon and The Library in Babel very interesting to me. The Lottery in Babylon tells of a country where your life is dependent on the lottery. The Library in Babel is the story of a library that contains infinite rooms and all possible books. Both of Borges s stories The Lottery in Babylon and The Library of Babel deal with a metaphorical world view that is different from the one we are used to, however The Library of Babel is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The universe (which others call the Library) is composed of an indefinite, perhaps infinite number of hexagonal galleries. In the center of each gallery is a ventilation shaft, bounded by a low railing (Borges, 112). The fact that frightens me the most is that people seem to use the term universe and library interchangeably. People in this universe have become so determined to have a record of all of man s knowledge, that civilization has dwindled down to almost nothing. The narrator of this story only talks about men, and as there are no women, there is no way to reproduce, or continue the livelihood of anyone. Borges talked about two axioms for the library. Axioms are statements or propositions that are regarded as true, even though they cannot be proven or disproven. First: The Library has existed ab æternitate. The intended goal is that after treatment and rehabilitation the nurse may eventually return to work. But a vital element in this plan is early intervention. We have already noted that for evidence of impairment at work to appear, the use of the substance may have been going on for quite some time. So, in aiming for a successful outcome the clock is already an enemy. As we look at some of the signs that may indicate impairment through substance use, now seems a good time to remind ourselves that substance abuse may not be the only possible explanation for the impairment. But whatever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Intervention Project for Nurses [IPN], n.d. b. para. 1) The realization that, when suffering from a substance use disorder, a nurse deserves the same care and treatment that we would offer to anyone else has led to the development of these alternative to discipline programs around the country, and in Florida it is the IPN. Its programs allow nurses to receive treatment and rehabilitation in a non punitive manner. If the nurse agrees to withdraw from practice and complete the program the IPN will then facilitate the successful return of that nurse to practice, all the while maintaining confidentiality even from the Board of Nursing. Days earlier, Daniel Ellsberg provided the newspaper with excerpts from a 7,000 page classified study that became known as the Pentagon Papers. Just over 20 years later, moose hunters found the decaying remains of an adventurer in the Alaskan wilderness. The remains were concluded to be those of Chris McCandless, an affluent 20 something from Virginia, who wound up dead following his two year long self righteous odyssey. • 12. Comparing Moses And Clare s Journey Considering both Moses and Clare s navigation through oppression, it is important to examine their reflections at end of their journeys that resulted from their rebellion or lack thereof. For Moses, he claims sorrowfully, I just lay there on the bed thinking about my life, how after all these years I ain t got no place at all, I still the same way, neither forward nor backward (Selvon 129). After facing all of the racial and gender barriers in London, Moses contemplates his experiences and acknowledges that he has been stagnant. After that incidence of defiance, her mother told her, When you are grown you can want anything you want. You can be anything you want. A doctor. A teacher. But to get there you have to learn the rules. That girls like you don t fire guns (Cliff 150). Unlike Moses whose narrative ends with regret, the end of Clare s journey as rebel opens a new chapter for her where her possibilities are, according to her mother, endless. However, their views on the path to success and fulfillment are quite different. Clare s perspective on doing anything [she] wants is not defined by being in the workforce which is suggested by her mom and is the route Moses took. Snow Falling On Cedars And Snow Falling On Cedars Becoming the Bridge Between Two Worlds Second generation immigrants are often forced to become the bridge between two worlds, as their foreign parents hold on to cultural ties and traditions, while the children grow up in a Western society with contrasting ways of life. The works the End of East by Jen Sookfong Lee and the film Snow Falling on Cedars, directed by Scott Hicks, prove that a struggle for identity can be overcome if one overlooks the dissimilarities between two cultures. As seen in both works, the writers demonstrate how second generation immigrants are faced with the challenge of finding their identities, as they feel torn between their cultural practices and the influences of their Western upbringings; However, only after setting aside the differences that clash the two cultures are they truly able to find a balance between the two and discover who they are. While Yeats was born in Ireland, he spent most of his adolescent years in London with his family. It wasn t until he was a teenager that he later moved back to Ireland. He attended the Metropolitan School of Art in Dublin and joined the Theosophical Society soon after moving back. He was surrounded by Irish influences most of his life, but it was his commitment to those influences and his heritage that truly affected his poetry. William Butler Yeats s poetry exemplifies how an author s Irish identity can help create and influence his work. Maud Gonne, an Irish nationalist and patriot, was a huge muse to Yeats and his poetry. Her passion for Ireland and its freedom was a large part of the reason why William Yeats was so passionate about the dealings in Ireland himself. Maud was born in England but loved Ireland and believed strongly in its independence from Britain. Although she is most known for her association with William Butler Yeats, she had many accomplishments herself. She created the Daughters of Ireland. • 16. Murder Mystery Play Research Paper INITIAL REACTION GENERAL RESPONSE Choosing a play was definitely not easy, in fact, it was probably the hardest part of this project for me. I am usually not one to dig into and enjoy plays very much. I am more of a musical theater person, I love to sing and dance. However, when this project was assigned I chose to think open mindedly and chose something a little bit out of my comfort zone. Instead of picking a musical I love like Annie , Legally Blonde , or Hamilton. I chose a murder mystery play called The Mousetrap. Going into the process I had a pretty good idea of what the play was about, because I had seen it when Oconomowoc High School did it for their senior directed play in 2015, and then I also saw it again in December of that year with my drama class when the Milwaukee Rep did it. When I first say the play I loved it! I was so intrigued from the very beginning and all the way to the last second. That very night that I saw the show I went home and looked it on youtube and started to watch it again, and to be honest I rewatched it several times since then. The shift of research and theory models went through a major shift during the 1960s and 1970s when the open systems perspective gained support as an embedded interdependent activities embedded in and dependent on a wider environment. System theories of organization have two major conceptual themes or components: (1) applications of Ludwig von Bertalanffy s general system theory to organizations and (2) the use of quantitative tools and techniques to understand to understand complex relationships among organizational and environmental variables and thereby to optimize decisions (Shafritz, Ott, Jang, 2011). A system is an organized collection of parts interacting and designed to accomplish specific organizational goals or purposes. The general system theory provides an important perspective for understanding modern organizations. The systems theory views of an organization as being complex set of interconnected elements, such as the inputs, processes, outputs, and feedback loops, and the environment in which it operates and with which is continuously interacts. System theorists are continuing to study the interconnections using organizational decision processes and information and control systems as their focal points of analysis. During research there is usually variance between individuals within a group or between different groups. During hypothesis testing the researcher wants to know if the sample of data collected is truly representative of the entire population. Null hypothesis testing is concerned with the correlation or differences in means (continuous data) between groups. The null hypothesis can also be described as the hypothesized mean being equal to the population mean. So the null hypothesis is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whereas, if I fail to reject the null, because I believe the groups are the same when, in fact, they are different this is a type 2 error. In its simplest terms, Type I error is the incorrect rejection of the null hypothesis, whereas Type II is the incorrect acceptance of the null hypothesis. Related to hypothesis testing is the Significance level or cut off point (alpha). The P or the probability value is one of the indicators that can be used to test the null hypothesis. Usually a significance level = .05 (95% confidence interval) or lower is the accepted rule for rejecting the null hypothesis. This means that we will accept up to 5% of type 1 error. Also, P 0.01 sometimes is referred to as statistically highly significant. If the p value is .05, then we would reject the null hypothesis. Visually, on a bell curve (two tailed test) this can be presented as the critical region or how far our sample statistic is from the null hypothesis. In relation to P values there is the confidence interval (or bound). A 0.05 level of significance would be centered on a 95% confidence interval. If our given value sits outside the bound we would reject the null. However, if our value sits within the interval we would not reject the null hypothesis. Another concern during research is the issue of sampling error due to only a portion of the population being used during a study. Even when bias is reduced by random sampling the ... • 29. The Character Message in The Conjure Tales of Charles W.... Going back over the Goophered Grapevine and Po Sandy in The Conjure Tales of Charles W. Chesnutt, I want to unfold the message Chesnutt is portraying through particular characters in these stories. Is the message the critics see, the same as the reader? I feel like Chesnutt contradicts himself in the conjure tales. By this I mean that he comes off to the reader as one thing, but he is interpreted by literary critics as something else. I think the reason that Chesnutt s work seems contradictory is because he has many voices throughout the stories and it is hard for the reader to distinguish which voice belongs to Chesnutt. Should these stories be looked upon as mere entertainment or as something else? According to Richard E. Baldwin, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... William Andrews saw that Chesnutt used the old time Negro model to create Uncle Julius (Chesnutt, 378). Looking at the Goophered Grapevine, one of the main characters, Julius, is seen as being a trickster. He seems to lie in order to fulfill his own desires. The author is reaffirming the stereotypes of blacks by using the character in this manner. Which is, they are liars and they will do anything to achieve what they need or want. This is how the old slave was exploited. Although they were faithful in years they were portrayed as willing to steal or kill to get what they needed. The reader is not sympathetic with Julius in the two stories. The other two main characters are John, the narrator, and his wife Annie. According to Duncan, John and Julius negotiate a new... relationship between two previously isolated American voices: the black and the white, the rich and the poor, the North and the South (Duncan, 78). John and his wife represent two sides of the white community; those who hold the beliefs of the plantation school and those that are sympathetic with the Negro and their condition (slavery, post slavery). It appears that Chesnutt made the narrator a white male for a reason. This is done in order to articulate expressions of doubt [which] make him a suitable proxy for both the wary ... • 33. The Use of Salicylic Acid in Medicine The medical field uses acids and bases all of the time because, our body uses acids and bases every day to try to get the PH levels as neutral as possible in our bodies. The neutral PH level in our bodies is 7.3.When your organs stop neutralizing acids and bases you need medical help. If the pH level goes over an acidity or basic level it can be really dangerous. That applies to almost every reaction in your metabolism. Due to the fact that our body needs, and produces acids and bases, I m going to touch on three. The first Acid is Salicylic Acid, most people have probably heard if not used this common acid, for acne, warts, dandruff, and much more. The base that I will be talking about, Hydrogen Peroxide is used all the time typically for handling infected scrapes, burns and minor cuts. Last but not least is, Alginate Acid, which is normally used or associated for packing a wound, but is actually quite common, just unnoticed, like in your processed foods, and fire retardants. Without the use of acids and bases in medicine, our pH levels in our bodies wouldn t be able to stay at a neutral 7.3 level. Salicylic Acid is a common type of Acid used in the Medical world. This acid is used on the skin to treat common skin blemishes, acne, dandruff, corn, calluses, and hand and foot warts.
