Anthony Swofford s Jarhead
Anthony Swofford Jarhead 2003 Jarhead is a Non fictional book written from a marine s point of view
during the gulf war. It deeply describes how Anthony Swofford thinks while deployed. It tells what he
goes through and how it affects him and his life. He also tells us about how a marines is treated and
what others should expect if they enlist. Anthony is a young man who is deployed as a marine during
the Gulf War. He describes events as they take place. While he is deployed he does not make many
friends. His room mate is probably the closest Marine to him. He talks about his officers. He was first
deployed as a scribe for an somewhat crazy officer. As Swofford was ordered to draw how a Marines
locker show be set up his officer drills his head through the chalk board he was using. Not the best
first impression if you ask me. Later on that officer is removed, because many of the Marines write
statements about what physical harm he had done to them. I feel like this event had set his mind set on
the way he went. He hates the Marines more and more the longer he is deployed. He says that it is
awful. He is always in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My Legacy Research Paper
My legacy Everyone leaves a legacy behind of some sort during their life. Whether it is a positive
legacy or a negative legacy is up to that person. I have tried my best to leave behind a positive legacy,
although sometimes it is not easy. I believe a legacy does not need to be about one specific thing
either. My legacy so far is about who I am as a person, and how it has impacted others. The first and
most prominent way I have created a legacy so far is as a friend. I don t have many close friends, but
this doesn t only count with close friends. I believe this part of my legacy involves any way I have
impacted another person, even just acquaintances, or other times complete strangers. I have tried my
best to do this in a positive manner. My close friends would remember me as loyal, someone they can
trust. They would also remember me as fun, adventurous, and easy to talk to. I would remember them
the same way. Acquaintances that I see every day would remember me as friendly and helpful. I think
that even strangers would remember me a similar way. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most people would compare this to the legacy left with close friends, but I see it very differently. My
sister knows me in a way that no one else does. I think it is likely that my sister would remember me

vulnerable moments. My sister has seen my at both my best and my worst. Even though it is important
to leave a positive legacy, I would want at least one person to remember times where I wasn t at my
best. This is what makes us human, and I want to be remembered as real and

Morgan s Imagined Communities
1.
Imagined communities, according to Anderson, are a form of speech communities created by the mass
production of shared media. They are imagined because members will never meet all other members
face to face. The Morgan piece on speech communities begins by describing a music video, which
itself begins with two rappers speaking on the phone in different languages in different countries.
After a conversation, the two meet up in person and begin the song. Morgan describes this as a speech
community formed around a shared style of music, with members of the community belonging to
various demographics. This would fit Anderson s model of imagined communities as the community
is formed around a shared consumption of a form of media with members who will never interact with
most other members. Anderson s model is primarily criticized for two reasons: it is too vertical and it
ignores hierarchy within communities.

Athens And Sparta Political Realism Essay
1. How do Athens and Sparta behave in adherence to the concepts of political realism? Both in general
and with their military approach to the war as well as specific key incidents in the first 3 books.
Political realism being defined as: an approach to the study and practice of international politics. It
emphasizes the role of the nation state and makes a broad assumption that all nation states are
motivated by national interests, or, at best, national interests disguised as moral concerns. This
definition in a way cracks open the two sides of the conflict, what first began as a series of dialogues,
arguing between Corinth (Sparta s ally) and Corcyra, a colony of Corinth that quickly befriends
Athens as the war is starting to become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The government was so quick to make a decision to execute everyone rather than the ringleaders of
the revolt. However, luckily for the city, only the ring leaders were assassinated. This is just one
example throughout the book that shows that Athens is almost too quick to make decisions. On the
other hand Sparta has the exact opposite problem, the in ability to make decisions quickly. As Athens
was extremely confident in their plans, Sparta seemed reluctant to start a war until they felt it was
absolutely necessary. On page 39, (, Crawley, Strassler, 1996) Corinth (an ally of Sparta) is quick to
call out the lack of responsibility and lack of action of Sparta which has led to the rise in Athenian
power. Also on page 47, (, Crawley, Strassler, 1996) Archidamus tells the Spartans to ignore ignorant
calls for action against the Athenians and to calmly decide what is necessary in the future. Although
being sluggish in some senses, the Spartans declare war which shows allies they are ready for action
instead of sitting in the background. Sparta also seemed as if they were involved in a proxy war as
Athens seemed to be fighting Sparta s allies more than Sparta itself, which lends itself more to the
power taking a backseat approach to this whole war.

Essay On SLIDE 8
SLIDE 8: At the relationship level we will address social support of parents. This is important because
there is often a lack of comfort for adolescent females in talking to their parents regarding
contraception and the decision to use it. Many teenage girls fear talking to their parents about sex, A
2015 survey by the national campaign to prevent teen and unplanned pregnancy found that 68% of
teens don t use birth control or protection because they are scared their parents would find out. We
will use the theory of reasoned action to affect change here. While the theory of reasoned action is an
individual theory it has a social aspect to it in the form of perceived subjective norms. It is especially
relevant when discussing an adolescent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

by observing the behaviors of their peers and the reaction to that behavior. Also of importance
research shows that those who believe their peers are using condoms are more than twice as likely to

peer influence can effectively impact dual contraception use among minority females. Social cognitive
theory can address increasing positive peer influence through interventions that Provide mentorship to

Film Adaptation In Ray Bradbury s The Pedestrian
The Pedestrian The PBS article, on film adaptation, discusses the difference between written text and
film and the struggle of adapting a book into a movie. Statistically, 65 percent of all novels are
adapted into a film. Stories and novels rely on the narrator to tell the story whereas, films don t usually
have a narrator. Films tend to be way shorter then a novel or story because one frame can be worth six
pages of description. Films have a pro side and a con side, one con is that a film takes away your own
personal perception while with any written literature, one has their own perception of a certain
scenario, what a character looks like, etc. Unlike written literacy, a film has certain limits, for
example, time, interaction, money, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film adaptation of the short story The Pedestrian have many similarities and differences. The film
adaptation and the short story had a bad connection. In the short story, the story had narration whereas
the film had a second character. Having a second character changed the theme because in the short
story he is isolated from society while having a second character in the film he has friendship. If
narration were to be used in the film, one could infer that Leonard Mead is lonely, odd, and isolated
from society because he is the only one that walks. Also, in the short story, the other theme is that in
the future, humanity is hopeless and will be unsocial. In the film, Leonard was able to get his friend,
Bob, away from the TV and go on a walk with him. By being able to persuade Bob to go on a walk,
the film s version is hopeful for the future. The film adaptation messed up the theme that Rad
Bradbury was trying to get

Health Disparities Research Paper
Environmental Disparities in Health
Health disparities are the inequalities that occur in the provision of healthcare and access to healthcare
across different racial, ethnic and socioeconomic groups. Health disparities negatively affect groups of
people who have experienced greater social or economic obstacles to health. Social structures and
economic systems attributing to health disparities include the social environment, physical
environment, health services, and structural and societal factors. Environmental health disparities arise
among racial and ethnic minorities as social and environmental factors interact. Studies suggest that
disadvantaged communities facing environmental disparities face a greater likelihood of exposure to

Although it is intuitive to hypothesize that disparities in health arise because of socioeconomic
differences between racial groups, studies often find that racial disparities persist even after
accounting socioeconomic factors. Ethnicity is highly correlated with residential location, with
minorities and whites often living segregated from one another. Differential residential location comes
with differential exposure to health risks.
. In a 1995 article pertaining to socioeconomic and racial differences in health Dr. Collin Williams
explains how he believes that socioeconomic differences do not completely explain racial disparities,
rather it argues that social class is merely an important mediator. Therefore, it is hypothesized that race
determines one s economic resources, which in turn determine health. Thus, although socioeconomic
conditions do not fully account for health disparities, they are a necessary part of the equation

A Critical Analysis Of The Theory Of Endosymbiosis And It...
A critical analysis of the Theory of Endosymbiosis and it s supporting evidence
Abstract
Introduction
The endosymbiotic theory is an evolutionary theory explaining the origin of Eukaryotic cells from
Prokaryotic, and is at present; the most widely accepted evolutionary theory of the Eukaryotic cell.
The theory explains the origins of mitochondria and chloroplasts and their double membranes,
suggesting that chloroplasts and mitochondria represent formerly free living bacteria that were taken
into a cell as an endosymbiont. Molecular evidence suggests that mitochondria developed from
proteobacteria and chloroplasts from cyanobacteria. It is thought that the Prokaryotes may have
entered the host cell as a parasite or source of nutrient for the host, however avoided digestion. The
primitive chloroplast may have provided the host cell with crucial nutrients, and the primitive
mitochondrion may have aided the exploitation of oxygen for the extraction of energy. In return the
host cell offered a protected environment for the Prokaryotes to live in. This was the beginning of a
symbiotic relationship between the primitive chloroplast and mitochondria, and the Eukaryotic cell.
The theory was ridiculed for years due its controversial nature, however in 1967 Lynn Margulis, a
biologist from Boston University, developed the modern Serial Endosymbiosis Theory.
Primary Endosymbiosis vs. Secondary Endosymbiosis
Primary endosymbiosis involves the engulfment of a bacterium by another

development of his PTSD. In Captain America: Civil War, Stark experiences his parents death, and
builds an expensive machine in an attempt to cope with the traumatic event. In Iron Man, Stark is
almost killed, and watches others die because of him. This traumatic event causes PTSD, but by
shutting down the weapons manufacturing side of Stark Industries, he convinces himself that he has
done enough, and his PTSD is subdued. In Avengers, Stark s luck finally runs out and he dies, only to
be brought back to life, and is eventually left alone to deal with his PTSD. The writer s of Iron Man 3
use all three major symptoms of PTSD to draw attention to a disorder that is commonly overlooked or
ignored, not only by the film industry, but by society in general. The writers made the conscious
choice to include all three so that his PTSD couldn t be overlooked. The writers also intentionally
open the movie with Tony Stark experiencing an anxiety attack. Stark is rendered useless in the face of
his anxiety, and in doing so the writer s are sending the message that even for a superhero, anxiety is
an issue. Tony Stark can t function during an anxiety attack, and if he can t function, it s okay for
others to not be able to. PTSD is an issue in the world, and Tony Stark is

The Great wall is an important part of China that stands out as one of the interesting features one hears

that time. Currently, the nation is second largest world economy courtesy of the rapid economic

Multiculturalism has played a significant role in Canada, since its establishment 40 years ago. Much
of Canadian society is reflective of different cultures from around the world making multiculturalism a
very relevant topic to Canadians. While it can be argued that the majority of Canadians are in favor of
multiculturalism, there are some who hold a different opinion. Though some critics claim that
multiculturalism promotes a form of hyphenated Canadianism that exacerbates divisions in Canadian

Educating the patient and their family, keeping medical treatment follow ups are very important and

Researchers have hypothesized that the hormone that makes an infant a male also organizes the brain
in a masculine way. Studies have shown when testosterone is blocked in the developing fetus then the

infant then one can obviously see that gender assignment before the child decides their gender would

The Church Must Catch Up
In today s modern world there is a clear rise of unbelief and modern culture is increasingly leaning
more towards the secular. Richard J. Bernstein, discusses how the shift to secularity consists of a move
from a society where belief in God is unchallenged and indeed, unproblematic, to one in which it is
understood to be one option among others, and frequently not the easiest to embrace . Less people are
attending church and more individuals are seeking resolution and purpose else where. Despite the
secularization that is evident within modern society, there are new cultural practices and changing
beliefs that are being implemented within the church to bridge this secular divide. This is
demonstrated through individual religious organizations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I personally feel as though both of these examples have their positive and negative impacts when it
comes to reinstating religion in to a very secularized society. In reference to Reverend Gretta Vosper,
her failure to focus on an almighty God when it comes to preaching the Christian faith can be very
controversial. On one hand, it opens up the church to a wider population of individuals with an array
of beliefs, allowing Christianity to be a more universal religion. Providing the opportunity to still
practice Christian values and attend church without the requirement of a blind faith in a transcendent
being will help to reintegrate Christianity in to modern culture. One of the negatives to this is that
individuals who believe strongly in an omnipotent God can feel as though their faith is being
diminished by not acknowledging that He exists. However, in relation to bridging the religious and
secular divide I feel as though providing an array of opportunities for individuals to engage in and
practice the Christian faith is more beneficial. In regards to Pope Francis and his push for new reforms
in order to ordain married men and women, I feel as though again it is a step towards closing the
divide between religion and the secular. Pope Francis is someone who is filled with charisma and is
extremely transparent

The Concept Of Sin In Dante Alighieri s Inferno
Dante Alighieri s Inferno is the first of three books in The Divine Comedy. A comedy in Dante s time
didn t mean what it means today: a comedy was a piece of literature that moved from dark to light or
from damnation to salvation in the eyes of God. In The Inferno, Dante delves into darkness and
damnation, and his view of the nature of Hell. Dante was a devout Catholic, so most of his inspiration
for The Inferno came from the Bible. In Dante s version of Hell, there are nine circles that reach to the
center of the Earth: Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Avarice and Prodigality, Wrath and Sullenness, Heresy,
Violence, Fraud, and Treachery. Those who commit the least severe sins are put near the top, as in
Limbo, and the worst sins at the bottom come with the worst punishments. Dante, the character in the
book, is escorted by the poet Virgil to literally explore Dante s descent into sin. To better understand
the book s concept of sin, the reader should compare the least sinful part of Hell, Limbo, to the most
sinful part of Hell, the ninth circle where Satan is kept.
The poem begins with Dante waking up in a forest. Dante tries to climb the mountain and sees three
beasts: a leopard, a lion, and a wolf. Later, Dante meets Virgil, a Roman poet Dante is fond of, to help
him climb the mountain. Virgil says they have to go through Hell first before reaching Heaven, where
Beatrice, a woman Dante loved in real life, will be waiting for him. Eventually, Dante and Virgil get to

Evaluation Of Dekalb, Illinois Development Plan
Development plans are and should be a very complex piece of work. There should be a long process to
come up with problems, goals, fixes and implementation strategies. This paper will be a summary and
evaluation of DeKalb, Illinois development plan. It was adopted in March of 2005. There were both
strong aspects to the plan, as well as areas that need much work to it. DeKalb s plan considers multiple
aspects for the development of many aspects of the community. The plan starts with the Desired
Development direction. This was the beginning of their update to list off five broad elements for the
future of the city including sustainability, continuous improvement, character, connectivity and
cohesion. To follow these five elements, many meetings were held, a few large and many small, to get
a view from a wide range of people on what problems the city was facing. Multiple organizations were
in these meetings such as the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce and the DeKalb Sanitary District Board.
There were similar ideas thrown out by all groups that related to the character issues which include
identifying DeKalb as a university town and the safety of the city. Influences outside of DeKalb
include the Rochelle rail port and the Elburn Metra Train to help people travel into and out of the city.
The population growth is one issue that the plan has to focus on. Much of the population growth in the
ten years before this plan was due to an increase in diverse culture. Land uses from high

Compare A S To Sonnet 130
Sonnet 130 is a parody of the conventional love sonnet, made popular by Petrarch and, made popular
in England by Sidney s use of the Petrarchan form in his epic poem Astrophel and Stella. When
comparing the stanzas of A S to Sonnet 130, the reader can clearly see that the sonnet does not use
grandiose metaphors or allusions to build his beloved into a divine figure. Despite it being an obvious
parody, it will be compared to the chosen lines from the Tempest. In Shakespeare s day, metaphors
that allude to putting the beloved on a pedestal of beauty had already become a cliché, but they were
an accepted technique for writing love poetry nonetheless. The way these poems would describe the
poet s lover was high idealized, making comparisons

Overcoming Obstacles In Rocky Balboa s Life
The movie Rocky is based on a boxer who has overcome tough times in his life but works for
everything he has and loves. Sylvester Stallone wrote and produced every Rocky movie and also
played the main character in the films. In almost every Rocky movie, Rocky Balboa faces a big
opponent in the ring. Balboa must train hard and overcome the situation and challenges before the
fight. Balboa then steps in the ring and gives his all for the win. Rocky has inspired me to never give
up and fight for the dreams you set your mind to. Balboa has a different system of training for each
fighter in the movies. In each fight he must study the opponent and attain the skills necessary to
dominate the fight. Throughout training he faces obstacles of doubt and uncertainty on how he could
possibly overcome such an opponent. After being broken down to the feeling he could never train
enough to win this fight he finds his moment that lifts him up and gives him the determination to
overcome. As in life, many of us will face scary challenges that we may doubt and be scared. But, like
balboa we find our path and step up to the plate. We study how to better ourselves and prevail the
challenge we face. Our minds take us to a place that we feel we could never return from, and we must
trust in the process and grasp the moment to punch through it. ... Show more content on

American Slavery American Freedom Summary
In reviewing the book American Slavery, American Freedom, historian and author Edmund S. Morgan
provides a chronological approach to the growth of slavery in North America. Morgan starts his
journey with the first settlements in Virginia and continues until the start of the American Revolution.
Morgan gives explanation of how ideals of freedom and English sense of superiority came to be a
major stepping stone for independence and racism. Morgan s question of how a country that proclaims
liberty, equality and religious virtue can at the same time foster the opposing ideals of slavery and
subjugation is the underlying question throughout the book. Morgan puts the critical issue on display,
broken down into four areas or books, to guide our understanding of colonial Virginia, the
development of slavery, and the link between racism and equality.
This highly regarded and scholarly book examines the fundamental paradox of freedom and the
establishment of slavery in American history. The central question posed by Morgan is how a people
could have developed the dedication to human liberty and dignity exhibited by the leaders of the
American Revolution and at the same time have developed and maintained a system of labor that
denied human liberty and dignity every hour of the day (Morgan 1975, 4 5). The location in Morgan s
research is colonial Virginia, once the largest slave state and home of proponents of liberty. Morgan s
detailed discussion of: the rise of race slavery over indentured servants and poor Englishmen as the
solution to workforce growth, a ruling class bound to the English tradition of superiority, and
acceptance of lifelong denial of human equality in the face of the fight for liberty demonstrates the
paradox for the reader.
While the first two sections of the book provide the historical context of the settling of the Virginia
colony, the last two demonstrate Morgan s theory of how racism was developed to ensure a
sustainable workforce. The rise of the labor theory demonstrates how slavery itself became a
necessary business venture in Virginia while at the same time justified the Revolutionary concepts of
liberty and equality for all white men. The belief that only the men, or white Englishmen

Hazel about it. Hazel knew that when Fiver got these feelings he was mostly right. They went to the
chief and told him about it, however, the chief did not believe them. When they went back to their
whole they decided they would leave the next night, and maybe get some rabbits to go with them.
They would have to keep it on the down low so they wouldn t get caught by the Owsla. Owsla was
like the rabbits body guard for the chief and acted like police officers to the other rabbits. They would
pick the biggest and the strongest of the rabbits. They left the next night with a good group of rabbits.

Best Friend Story
Let me tell you the story of a boy named Blake who moved to a new town called Weston. In his new
school, he thought he would never make any friends for the next couple of months, but man was he
wrong! Blake was a shy guy today because he was going into a new school and was young for his
grade. And furthermore, almost everyone was older than him, except for in his old school in Natick,
where he had a friend who was 3 hours older than him, born on the same day, month, year, and
surprisingly, the same hospital! But dreadfully, he had to leave his best friend because his parents got a
new job. Anyway, let me tell you the story.
In the summer, Blake was wondering what his new school would be like. He wondered how fast he
would make friends, if the kids there would like him, and he even thought if any girls would think that
he was cool! Blake was sort of confident about going to this new school because he had lots of friends
in his old school, so he would think the same thing would happen here! He asked his parents what his
new school would be like and they said that everything would be fine as long as he is confident the
whole way through. But now that they said that, he knew he wouldn t be fine. So instead of being
confident, he was feeling bad how he isn t going to make any friends in this new school.
When Blake got to school, he walked inside and went to the front office, and asked where he should
go because he is new here. The woman at the front office told him to go

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Song Dynasty
As just stated so did the Northern Song clan members set up a capital in Hangzhou. Instead of
Northern Song so would they now be called Southern Song. Hangzhou back then was a wealthy
trading city and the Song rulers retained their domain south of the Huai River along with most of the
population at that time. They also managed to retain big southern merchant cities and therefore a new
period of prosperity began. A priority in Southern Song was foreign trade, and the government
constructed merchant ships and improved harbor facilities. Xiamen, Quanzhou and Guangzhou were
big seaports. The Southern Song merchant ships sailed as far as India and Arabia. The trade allowed
the Southern Song empire to continue to be prosperous although they had lost a lot of their land. The
government ended up building a navy to protect the merchant shipping. Passle wheel ships were built
that were faster than regular boats ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The thing which made the cultural propagation fluid from dynasty to dynasty was that the Chinese
mpires had a common written language for 2000 years. no matter what they spoke so would they be
able to read texts. Therefore by requiring candidates for official positions to pass exams by testing
their knowledge of the Neo Confucian texts, the court would be ensured that their officials were
exceptionally intelligent and could communicate in this very difficult literary language. The
government system had of course its advantages and disadvantages. The bureaucrats for an example
studied the same works on social behavior and philosophy. That promoted unity and the normalization
of behavior through the empire and during the times of dynastic change. The scholar bureaucrats had a
common base of understanding after all and they passed on these political and philological ideals to
the people underneath them so that the whole empire could have a common philosophy of

Essay On The Battle Of Gettysburg
The Battle of Gettysburg
The Battle of Gettysburg is remembered as a turning point in the Civil War and the biggest, bloodiest
battle ever on North American soil (Welch). It was extremely influential to the outcome of the Civil
War and had the largest number of casualties in a single battle. The three days of fighting resulted in
the Union victory and cost thousands of soldiers their lives. The Battle of Gettysburg was significant
to the outcome of the Civil War because of what happened during this battle, why it occurred, and how
it affected the war itself.
In May of 1863 Lee s battle plan was to bring the war to the enemy territory occupied by the North in
order to apply pressure on the North and give the South a rest. So he started his northward march on
June 3 with approximately 77,000 men. This would be Lee s second advancement North and upset the
United State s plan for a summer campaigning season and hopefully upset politician s strong opinions
in support of the war. He wanted them to see the war like the South had seen it. Lee hoped to also take
some pressure off of the beaten up south. The
King 2 invasion northward would allow the Rebels to live off of the northern farmers and give
Virginia a much needed rest after suffering so much in previous battles. Lee s 70,000 plus army could
threaten Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Washington D.C. and put pressure on leaders to push for peace
and possibly a truce (Tousignant). The Battle of Gettysburg begins (July

George Washington s Farewell Address
In George Washington s Farewell Address, Washington warns against the dangers of political factions
by stating, it occurs as matter of serious concern that any ground should have been furnished for
characterizing parties by geographical discriminations, Northern and Southern, Atlantic and Western;
whence designing men may endeavor to excite a belief that there is a real difference of local interests
and views (Washington). However, despite American leaders such as George Washington and James
Madison warning of factionalism, the country would be divided by political parties arising out of the
Northern and Southern states of the union. By the time Walt Whitman wrote Songs of Myself in 1855,
tensions in the United States created by factionalism were at a high and were constantly elevating. In
writing Songs of Myself , Whitman sought to help mend some of the wounds created by factionalism
by seeking to bring together Americans whom factionalism had rendered alien to one another and by
teaching to believe in oneself rather than the beliefs of political parties. When Washington wrote his
Farewell Address, he had already made the decision to retire from his job as president and return to his
home on Mount Vernon. No longer was he concerned with making a future for the country. Instead he
was concerned with offering the parting advice of an old and affectionate friend . Washington offered
his advice on a number of different topics, but the most relevant topic to politics

  • 2. Anthony Swofford s Jarhead Anthony Swofford Jarhead 2003 Jarhead is a Non fictional book written from a marine s point of view during the gulf war. It deeply describes how Anthony Swofford thinks while deployed. It tells what he goes through and how it affects him and his life. He also tells us about how a marines is treated and what others should expect if they enlist. Anthony is a young man who is deployed as a marine during the Gulf War. He describes events as they take place. While he is deployed he does not make many friends. His room mate is probably the closest Marine to him. He talks about his officers. He was first deployed as a scribe for an somewhat crazy officer. As Swofford was ordered to draw how a Marines locker show be set up his officer drills his head through the chalk board he was using. Not the best first impression if you ask me. Later on that officer is removed, because many of the Marines write statements about what physical harm he had done to them. I feel like this event had set his mind set on the way he went. He hates the Marines more and more the longer he is deployed. He says that it is awful. He is always in the ... • 3. My Legacy Research Paper My legacy Everyone leaves a legacy behind of some sort during their life. Whether it is a positive legacy or a negative legacy is up to that person. I have tried my best to leave behind a positive legacy, although sometimes it is not easy. I believe a legacy does not need to be about one specific thing either. My legacy so far is about who I am as a person, and how it has impacted others. The first and most prominent way I have created a legacy so far is as a friend. I don t have many close friends, but this doesn t only count with close friends. I believe this part of my legacy involves any way I have impacted another person, even just acquaintances, or other times complete strangers. I have tried my best to do this in a positive manner. My close friends would remember me as loyal, someone they can trust. They would also remember me as fun, adventurous, and easy to talk to. I would remember them the same way. Acquaintances that I see every day would remember me as friendly and helpful. I think that even strangers would remember me a similar way. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think it is likely that my sister would remember me not only when we have fun and go on adventures together but she would also remember me in my vulnerable moments. My sister has seen my at both my best and my worst. Even though it is important to leave a positive legacy, I would want at least one person to remember times where I wasn t at my best. • 4. Morgan s Imagined Communities 1. Imagined communities, according to Anderson, are a form of speech communities created by the mass production of shared media. They are imagined because members will never meet all other members face to face. The Morgan piece on speech communities begins by describing a music video, which itself begins with two rappers speaking on the phone in different languages in different countries. After a conversation, the two meet up in person and begin the song. Morgan describes this as a speech community formed around a shared style of music, with members of the community belonging to various demographics. This would fit Anderson s model of imagined communities as the community is formed around a shared consumption of a form of media with members who will never interact with most other members. Anderson s model is primarily criticized for two reasons: it is too vertical and it ignores hierarchy within communities. 2. • 5. Athens And Sparta Political Realism Essay 1. How do Athens and Sparta behave in adherence to the concepts of political realism? Both in general and with their military approach to the war as well as specific key incidents in the first 3 books. Political realism being defined as: an approach to the study and practice of international politics. It emphasizes the role of the nation state and makes a broad assumption that all nation states are motivated by national interests, or, at best, national interests disguised as moral concerns. This definition in a way cracks open the two sides of the conflict, what first began as a series of dialogues, arguing between Corinth (Sparta s ally) and Corcyra, a colony of Corinth that quickly befriends Athens as the war is starting to become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The government was so quick to make a decision to execute everyone rather than the ringleaders of the revolt. However, luckily for the city, only the ring leaders were assassinated. This is just one example throughout the book that shows that Athens is almost too quick to make decisions. On the other hand Sparta has the exact opposite problem, the in ability to make decisions quickly. As Athens was extremely confident in their plans, Sparta seemed reluctant to start a war until they felt it was absolutely necessary. On page 39, (, Crawley, Strassler, 1996) Corinth (an ally of Sparta) is quick to call out the lack of responsibility and lack of action of Sparta which has led to the rise in Athenian power. Also on page 47, (, Crawley, Strassler, 1996) Archidamus tells the Spartans to ignore ignorant calls for action against the Athenians and to calmly decide what is necessary in the future. Although being sluggish in some senses, the Spartans declare war which shows allies they are ready for action instead of sitting in the background. Sparta also seemed as if they were involved in a proxy war as Athens seemed to be fighting Sparta s allies more than Sparta itself, which lends itself more to the power taking a backseat approach to this whole war. 2. This is important because there is often a lack of comfort for adolescent females in talking to their parents regarding contraception and the decision to use it. Many teenage girls fear talking to their parents about sex, A 2015 survey by the national campaign to prevent teen and unplanned pregnancy found that 68% of teens don t use birth control or protection because they are scared their parents would find out. We will use the theory of reasoned action to affect change here. While the theory of reasoned action is an individual theory it has a social aspect to it in the form of perceived subjective norms. It is especially relevant when discussing an adolescent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is important because adolescents spend a lot of their time in peer groups and are often influenced by observing the behaviors of their peers and the reaction to that behavior. Also of importance research shows that those who believe their peers are using condoms are more than twice as likely to use them themselves. The relevant mechanism of change here is social cognitive theory. It has a specific focus on the individual and their relationship with the environment and will address the way peer influence can effectively impact dual contraception use among minority females. Social cognitive theory can address increasing positive peer influence through interventions that Provide mentorship to our target teen girls by individuals who are of the same ethnicity and slightly older than our target group but still young enough to identify with them (21 26). Film Adaptation In Ray Bradbury s The Pedestrian The Pedestrian The PBS article, on film adaptation, discusses the difference between written text and film and the struggle of adapting a book into a movie. Statistically, 65 percent of all novels are adapted into a film. Stories and novels rely on the narrator to tell the story whereas, films don t usually have a narrator. Films tend to be way shorter then a novel or story because one frame can be worth six pages of description. Films have a pro side and a con side, one con is that a film takes away your own personal perception while with any written literature, one has their own perception of a certain scenario, what a character looks like, etc. Unlike written literacy, a film has certain limits, for example, time, interaction, money, and ... In the short story, the story had narration whereas the film had a second character. If narration were to be used in the film, one could infer that Leonard Mead is lonely, odd, and isolated from society because he is the only one that walks. Also, in the short story, the other theme is that in the future, humanity is hopeless and will be unsocial. In the film, Leonard was able to get his friend, Bob, away from the TV and go on a walk with him. By being able to persuade Bob to go on a walk, the film s version is hopeful for the future. Although it is intuitive to hypothesize that disparities in health arise because of socioeconomic differences between racial groups, studies often find that racial disparities persist even after accounting socioeconomic factors. Ethnicity is highly correlated with residential location, with minorities and whites often living segregated from one another. Differential residential location comes with differential exposure to health risks. . In a 1995 article pertaining to socioeconomic and racial differences in health Dr. Collin Williams explains how he believes that socioeconomic differences do not completely explain racial disparities, rather it argues that social class is merely an important mediator. Therefore, it is hypothesized that race determines one s economic resources, which in turn determine health. • 9. A Critical Analysis Of The Theory Of Endosymbiosis And It... A critical analysis of the Theory of Endosymbiosis and it s supporting evidence Abstract Introduction The endosymbiotic theory is an evolutionary theory explaining the origin of Eukaryotic cells from Prokaryotic, and is at present; the most widely accepted evolutionary theory of the Eukaryotic cell. The theory explains the origins of mitochondria and chloroplasts and their double membranes, suggesting that chloroplasts and mitochondria represent formerly free living bacteria that were taken into a cell as an endosymbiont. Molecular evidence suggests that mitochondria developed from proteobacteria and chloroplasts from cyanobacteria. It is thought that the Prokaryotes may have entered the host cell as a parasite or source of nutrient for the host, however avoided digestion. The primitive chloroplast may have provided the host cell with crucial nutrients, and the primitive mitochondrion may have aided the exploitation of oxygen for the extraction of energy. In return the host cell offered a protected environment for the Prokaryotes to live in. This was the beginning of a symbiotic relationship between the primitive chloroplast and mitochondria, and the Eukaryotic cell. The theory was ridiculed for years due its controversial nature, however in 1967 Lynn Margulis, a biologist from Boston University, developed the modern Serial Endosymbiosis Theory. Primary Endosymbiosis vs. Secondary Endosymbiosis Primary endosymbiosis involves the engulfment of a bacterium by another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The writer s of Iron Man 3 use all three major symptoms of PTSD to draw attention to a disorder that is commonly overlooked or ignored, not only by the film industry, but by society in general. The writers made the conscious choice to include all three so that his PTSD couldn t be overlooked. The writers also intentionally open the movie with Tony Stark experiencing an anxiety attack. Currently, the nation is second largest world economy courtesy of the rapid economic growth in the coastal region of the country for which the great wall is a part, Nelamangala Vishwapathy, (2015). The very construction of the wall is so vast that it gets into the league of the largest building projects in human history. In fact, in recognition of the architectural endeavours and the historical significance of the wall, United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) put the wall its record as one of the World Heritage List, Jing, (2015). Amazingly, this great wall was not constructed one. It continues to be built and developed further even though the process of building the wall dates back to the 7th Century. A Research Study On Moravian College The Lehigh Valley is home to Allentown,Bethlehem, and Easton, as well as educational institutions such as Moravian College; in short, the Lehigh Valley, specifically Bethlehem is known for its diversity. In this research paper I will focus on Moravian College, its population and their interaction with each other when they are walking around the campus. In this research, I anticipate that while observing men and women of similar ages, men will tend to be more distracted and focused on just one topic, while women will be walking closer to each other and talking about multiple subjects. In other words, it was rather easy to identify sidewalk behavior without making it obvious that I was making such observations. In this first attempt, in order to come up with the correct data, I counted all the men and all the women who were walking down the hill into their dorms, the number of single groups, the mixed groups, and everyone who was walking alone. • 17. The Church Must Catch Up In today s modern world there is a clear rise of unbelief and modern culture is increasingly leaning more towards the secular. Richard J. Bernstein, discusses how the shift to secularity consists of a move from a society where belief in God is unchallenged and indeed, unproblematic, to one in which it is understood to be one option among others, and frequently not the easiest to embrace . Less people are attending church and more individuals are seeking resolution and purpose else where. Despite the secularization that is evident within modern society, there are new cultural practices and changing beliefs that are being implemented within the church to bridge this secular divide. This is demonstrated through individual religious organizations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I personally feel as though both of these examples have their positive and negative impacts when it comes to reinstating religion in to a very secularized society. In reference to Reverend Gretta Vosper, her failure to focus on an almighty God when it comes to preaching the Christian faith can be very controversial. On one hand, it opens up the church to a wider population of individuals with an array of beliefs, allowing Christianity to be a more universal religion. Providing the opportunity to still practice Christian values and attend church without the requirement of a blind faith in a transcendent being will help to reintegrate Christianity in to modern culture. One of the negatives to this is that individuals who believe strongly in an omnipotent God can feel as though their faith is being diminished by not acknowledging that He exists. However, in relation to bridging the religious and secular divide I feel as though providing an array of opportunities for individuals to engage in and practice the Christian faith is more beneficial. In regards to Pope Francis and his push for new reforms in order to ordain married men and women, I feel as though again it is a step towards closing the divide between religion and the secular. • 18. The Concept Of Sin In Dante Alighieri s Inferno Dante Alighieri s Inferno is the first of three books in The Divine Comedy. A comedy in Dante s time didn t mean what it means today: a comedy was a piece of literature that moved from dark to light or from damnation to salvation in the eyes of God. In The Inferno, Dante delves into darkness and damnation, and his view of the nature of Hell. Dante was a devout Catholic, so most of his inspiration for The Inferno came from the Bible. In Dante s version of Hell, there are nine circles that reach to the center of the Earth: Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Avarice and Prodigality, Wrath and Sullenness, Heresy, Violence, Fraud, and Treachery. Those who commit the least severe sins are put near the top, as in Limbo, and the worst sins at the bottom come with the worst punishments. Dante, the character in the book, is escorted by the poet Virgil to literally explore Dante s descent into sin. To better understand the book s concept of sin, the reader should compare the least sinful part of Hell, Limbo, to the most sinful part of Hell, the ninth circle where Satan is kept. The poem begins with Dante waking up in a forest. Dante tries to climb the mountain and sees three beasts: a leopard, a lion, and a wolf. Later, Dante meets Virgil, a Roman poet Dante is fond of, to help him climb the mountain. Virgil says they have to go through Hell first before reaching Heaven, where Beatrice, a woman Dante loved in real life, will be waiting for him. Eventually, Dante and Virgil get to the first ... There should be a long process to come up with problems, goals, fixes and implementation strategies. This paper will be a summary and evaluation of DeKalb, Illinois development plan. It was adopted in March of 2005. There were both strong aspects to the plan, as well as areas that need much work to it. DeKalb s plan considers multiple aspects for the development of many aspects of the community. The plan starts with the Desired Development direction. This was the beginning of their update to list off five broad elements for the future of the city including sustainability, continuous improvement, character, connectivity and cohesion. To follow these five elements, many meetings were held, a few large and many small, to get a view from a wide range of people on what problems the city was facing. Multiple organizations were in these meetings such as the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce and the DeKalb Sanitary District Board. There were similar ideas thrown out by all groups that related to the character issues which include identifying DeKalb as a university town and the safety of the city. Influences outside of DeKalb include the Rochelle rail port and the Elburn Metra Train to help people travel into and out of the city. • 24. American Slavery American Freedom Summary In reviewing the book American Slavery, American Freedom, historian and author Edmund S. Morgan provides a chronological approach to the growth of slavery in North America. Morgan starts his journey with the first settlements in Virginia and continues until the start of the American Revolution. Morgan gives explanation of how ideals of freedom and English sense of superiority came to be a major stepping stone for independence and racism. Morgan s question of how a country that proclaims liberty, equality and religious virtue can at the same time foster the opposing ideals of slavery and subjugation is the underlying question throughout the book. Morgan puts the critical issue on display, broken down into four areas or books, to guide our understanding of colonial Virginia, the development of slavery, and the link between racism and equality. This highly regarded and scholarly book examines the fundamental paradox of freedom and the establishment of slavery in American history. The central question posed by Morgan is how a people could have developed the dedication to human liberty and dignity exhibited by the leaders of the American Revolution and at the same time have developed and maintained a system of labor that denied human liberty and dignity every hour of the day (Morgan 1975, 4 5). The location in Morgan s research is colonial Virginia, once the largest slave state and home of proponents of liberty. Morgan s detailed discussion of: the rise of race slavery over indentured servants and poor Englishmen as the solution to workforce growth, a ruling class bound to the English tradition of superiority, and acceptance of lifelong denial of human equality in the face of the fight for liberty demonstrates the paradox for the reader. While the first two sections of the book provide the historical context of the settling of the Virginia colony, the last two demonstrate Morgan s theory of how racism was developed to ensure a sustainable workforce. The rise of the labor theory demonstrates how slavery itself became a necessary business venture in Virginia while at the same time justified the Revolutionary concepts of liberty and equality for all white men. Essay On The Battle Of Gettysburg The Battle of Gettysburg The Battle of Gettysburg is remembered as a turning point in the Civil War and the biggest, bloodiest battle ever on North American soil (Welch). It was extremely influential to the outcome of the Civil War and had the largest number of casualties in a single battle. The three days of fighting resulted in the Union victory and cost thousands of soldiers their lives. The Battle of Gettysburg was significant to the outcome of the Civil War because of what happened during this battle, why it occurred, and how it affected the war itself. In May of 1863 Lee s battle plan was to bring the war to the enemy territory occupied by the North in order to apply pressure on the North and give the South a rest. So he started his northward march on June 3 with approximately 77,000 men. This would be Lee s second advancement North and upset the United State s plan for a summer campaigning season and hopefully upset politician s strong opinions in support of the war. He wanted them to see the war like the South had seen it. Lee hoped to also take some pressure off of the beaten up south. The King 2 invasion northward would allow the Rebels to live off of the northern farmers and give Virginia a much needed rest after suffering so much in previous battles.
