Society is hard pressed to find a region within the world today, which has experienced as much
conflict, as the Middle East. The bloodiest and most volatile of these conflicts would be the Iran
Iraq war, proving to be the most bitter and detrimental conflict since World War II, and the worst
the region has seen in recent years. Hostile relations and continued territorial clashes occurred
between these two countries before September 22, 1980, however this day would mark the official
declaration of war on Iranby Saddam Hussein. The next eight years of war would go on to claim
the lives of over a million soldiers and civilians. In terms of war, this conflict would play out as a
typical interstate war, with intense utilization of land, air, and naval forces throughout its entirety.
The escalation between Iran and Iraqwas not new, and there are multiple theories as to the origin of
conflict, with everything from geopolitics and disputes over territory, to religious divisions and
Saddam s fear of how the Iranian Revolutionof 1979 would affect Iraq. However, looking through
the theoretical framework of Realism and its theories of balance and power and the security
dilemma, this all plays to a patterned framework consistent with mistrust, uncertainty and

Film and Its Impact on the American Culture
Modern film was brought to the Americas when the Kinetoscope, the basic film viewer, was first
invented by Thomas Edison in 1889. This, along with his Kinetograph allowed short films to be
displayed in Kinetoscope parlors; these would later evolve into the movie theaters of today. Many
people loved the concept of movies because they allowed one to see different events from the
comfort of a theater. Films however do more than just entertain they can also impact society in a
beneficial or harmful way. This essay will explore the history of film, its changes throughout time,
and its impact on American culture.
The creation of film first began in 1659 by a Dutch scientist named Christiaan Huygens.
Huygens invented the magic lantern, which later became the slide projector. The magic lantern
used a hand painted glass that was illuminated by a light source to project images through a lens.
Later in 1827 the first photograph was taken, it was a view from a window at the Le Gras and
was taken using a technique involving a glass plate invented by Claude Niepce. This technique
however was not efficient as it took 8 hours to develop. In 1834 the Zoetrope which was an
illusion toy invented by William George Horner in which pictures were put into slots and spun
around and when these were viewed through a mirror the images would appear to move. The
Zoetrope was later adapted by Eadwaerd Muybridge into the Zoopraxinoscope in 1878 while

During the medieval period, the Catholic faith was one of the largest practiced religions, if not the
largest. When one can encompass the wide range of power and influence, as the Church had done, it
can eventually become difficult to maintain absolute control. That was the case for the Catholic
Church as it dealt with heresyand heretics, as is evident in the readings from Michael Goodich, and
Robert Ian Moore. In this essay, I will discuss how the Chruch s treatment of heresy, and treatment
towards the heretics, was a means for them maintain control and power within the Church. The
Church attained a large amount of power and wide range of influence during the medieval period.
To the Church, heresy was a threat to the power and control they had obtained. In order for the
Church to have maintained that control, a plethora of actions were taken to ensure that heretics

looks, but she was also rich. But she portrayed as a dumb blonde. So once her boyfriend broke up

When the first power point hit in the movie, it was when Warner feels he s better than Elle,
