The World Labor Market
The stabilization of the labor supply created the world market labor (Lecture, February 25, 2014).
For example, this resulted in millions of people to come to America and involve themselves in
working for our country. However, migrants tend to always get paid little amounts which does not
really help them out the way that they need or hope for but they stick around anyways.
In addition, increased migration primarily helps the government s economic state. For instance, the
United States has a large labor market. There are numerous tasks that need to be competed on a
daily basis. By hiring migrants they are able to pay them extremely little compared to the profits
that are being made. Which means the government s economy is highly dependent on global
workers (Robinson,267). This is why emigrants can be seen as heroes. And they should be treated
with decency because dependent countries such as the US cannot afford to lose them
(Robinson,267).
In the article by Alejandro Portes, he explains that capital being global and labor being local is
nothing new. That the modern world system has grown because of the abroad labor system
occurring. (Portes,152). He also mentions that the process of transnational communities in the
world system resulted in many advantages. However, he says those advantages are entirely on the
side of those able to...thus turning globalization into the final apotheosis of capital... (Portes, 152).
Overall a global capitalist society secures the economy of

Lucille Clifton Grandma We Are Poetry Analysis
Great pieces of literature allow for someone to relate to the piece. As I read grandma, we are poets
by Lucille Clifton I could relate. I did not read it as if I related to autism, but as I remember all
the words that define who were are by society s standards. In Clifton s poem emotion could be felt
when portraying those with autism and I was determined to make a similar piece.
For my piece I began to define beauty based on society s definition rather than how Clifton defines
autism by the dictionary definition. I wanted there to be two different voices heard in my poem.
The first voice was that of myself as I reminisce on what beauty felt like as I grew up. The other
voice is society and all the ideas that make someone beautiful. I decided to use the word beauty
because I have been talking to my sister lately and a boy told her she was not pretty enough to
be his girlfriend. I realized writing a poem was a good way to portray to her that no matter what
anyone says she is always going to be beautiful. I was able to write my own experience because
there is no better way to explain something than through one s own examples. This advice coming
from an older sister is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my own piece I decided to use my own experience from when I was younger to explain to my
little sister that no matter what society says she is beautiful the way she is. As I read the third
stanza in Clifton s work she used the word imagined multiple times to portray what a kid with
autism is feeling or doing as they see people or hear words. I felt that the word change was a
great way to portray raw emotion in my piece. I used the dashes before the word to exaggerate the
change that society was yelling in my head. Finally, the last change comes, but it is modified to
changed. I used the word changed to evoke emotion because I had finally given into society and
what society sketched as

American Religion in Long Days Journey into Night Essay
American Religion in Long Days Journey into Night
The modernist sentiments throughout Long Days Journey into Night, by Eugene O Neill, are
apparent in many different ways. Among the methods he used was the portrayal of America s
withdrawal from traditional religion and modes of behavior. He used his immigrant Irish family,
the Tyrones, as a pedestal for this idea by highlighting their departure from traditional Irish beliefs
and their struggle to form new, uniquely American, ones. O Neill did this by repeatedly evoking a
drastic difference between his character s conduct and their Irish Catholic counterparts. He replaced

The Tyrones also formed a new counterpart to the Catholic sacrament of confession, in which a
higher authority forgives people of their sins. The Tyrones felt this absence very much, because
they were constantly bickering and chasing blame around. It was as if they were waiting for the
permission to be forgiven from God through a priest. They were in a rut of their own creation, and

Surgical Implant Essay
Long term effects: surgical implants Chronic exposure to medically implanted metals is of
growing interest to medical providers. Gallo, Kaminek, Ticha, Rihakova and Ditmar (2002)
compiled a review on particle disease. This is complication found in hip replacement patients that
is characterized by aseptic loosening and periprosthetic osteolysis. The burden of wear on the
weight bearing surfaces of the implant produces particles. These particles are only one of several
factors that contribute to the complex osteolytic process. Osteoblasts are key in the process of
bone formation. Metal particles can inhibit osteoblast production and function. Oldenburg, Wegner
and Baur (2009) described the case of a 55 year old man with a metal on ceramic hip... Show more

This results in a virtual three dimensional image of the scanned area. Metal results in artifacts on

information for analysis, the same concerns over radiation exposure exist for this procedure as for
traditional radiographs. Again, the risk of radiation exposure must be weighed against the potential
benefit CT provides. CT has been extensively used to evaluate patients with embedded metal

Elasticity of Labour Demand Essay example
Elasticity of Labour Demand Labour is a derived demand realised by the demand for the product
that the labour will be producing. The theory of labour demand explains the behaviour of the firm
with the key principle being to achieve the optimal amounts of labour employers will want to utilise
at different wage levels. We must make several assumptions when describing how the long run
labour demand is derived. Firstly we must assume that firms are profit maximisers and therefore
will attempt always to minimise any costs incurred. Further assumptions to simplify analysis of
labour demand are that there are no costs of employment other than hourly wages and productivity
of labour is independent of time worked. I.e. Labour is homogenous.... Show more content on

If this equation was rewritten, the slope of the isoquant would be found. The slope of the isoquant
can be formulated by the marginal rate of technical substitution. (†K/ †L) = (MPL /MPK) As
previously mentioned, a profit maximising firm will always wish to minimise costs. A budget
constraint will signify the fixed sum that a firm can spend on inputs. It is the financial
constraint of a firm. Capital can be given a charge of r (per unit bought) and labour can be given
a price, w (wage rate per hour). Cost of Production = wL + rK If a firm were to spend its total
budget on capital, it could purchase C/r, and similarly, to spend all its funds on labour, C/w
could be hired. The slope of the firmsГ‚ financial constraint, or isocost, will hence be w/r, and all
other points along the line show the various purchases they could make of the inputs. Criteria: В·
An isocost line will give combinations that are equally costly В· A higher isocost line is
associated with a larger budget В· The slope is linear and is the negative of the ratio of input
prices ( w/r) Diagram Isocost Long run choice of inputs The long run labour demand curve is
derived from the isocost isoquant analysis. The point where the isocost is tangential to the isoquant
is where the maximum output is

The Flaws of Non-Governmental Organizations in Developing...
The role of Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in the world today has been increasingly
questioned in recent literature as people begin to recognize the flaws of our development aid
industry. The article NGOs A Tainted History by Firoze Manji and Carl O Coill explores the
history of the rise of NGOs in Africain order to demonstrate that their aim is to control and colonize
Africa. Similarly, the novel Damned Nations: Geed, Guns, Armies Aidby Samantha Nutt
emphasizes the patriarchal tendencies of the aid industry and the influences of the political
objectives of donor countries with descriptions of her first hand experiences on the field. With the
articles Challenging Indifference to Extreme Poverty: Considering Southern Perspectives on Global
Citizenship and Change by Barbara Heron and International NGOs and the Aid Industry: constraints
on international Solidarity by Molly Kane in mind, I considered the effects and roles of NGOs as
development organizations and instruments of change. Whereas the compilation of stories in
Generation NGO, edited by Alisha Apale and Valerie Stam, recollected individual experiences of
development workers, highlighting the moral and ethical challenges they faced day to day.
Analysis of the abovementioned readings allowed me to conclude that NGOs are destructive in the
developing countries in which they are situated because they impose colonialist influences, are
biased towards their political supporters, are ineffective when faced

Toy Train Tracks
Introduction
Beginning in 1865, railroad tracks were mainly utilized for the luxury sleeping cars and transport
of goods and materials across long distances. As the purpose of train travel improved over the
century, so did the material used for train tracks. The main material used in tracks is steel, and this
is crack resistance to allow smooth and continuous travel during long journeys. Similarly, toy train
tracks are designed in a similar fashion, but composed of different material such as wood or plastic.
Plastic railroad tracks do not always possess the endurability to allow trains to function
continuously. However, toy train tracks are a fundamental building block in a person s childhood.
During the young childhood years, millions of children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Evolution of Self in Asian-American Women in the Us...
Essay 2 The Evolution of Self in Asian American Women in the US The conflict of a typical mother
/daughter relationship exists in many cultures. This conflict for many Asian American women was
further exasperated as these women were forced to also deal with adjusting as first, second, and
third generation Americans in a sometimes unwelcome society. As a child, Japanese American
Janice Mirikitani, was interned, along with her mother, at a work relocation camp during 1941in

birth as an interned US citizen of Japanese descent, Mirikitani has gone on to become a self

Delmendo, Mirikitani). The first generation of Mirikitani women had to potentially overcome the
silence of her liberties by the traditions of two cultures. The culture of Japanese tradition she left
behind and that of the unwelcoming American culture. Instead of fighting against this persecution
by the United States, she chose to remain silent and hidden within the confines of her Japanese
culture. As a Nisei, second generation Japanese American, Janice begins to question her role as
a woman in American in society. She wants to break the tradition of silence and speak out
against the defined role that society has laid out for her. She makes attempts to do this in her
own mind so that she can pass this knowledge on to her daughter, but she seems unable to do so.
In the poem, she expresses her discontent at remaining silent and hopes that she can convey this
yearning to break tradition, and be heard in society, to her daughter. Before she can express these
sentiments to her sansei daughter, she realizes that her daughter was able to break this chain of
silence that was passed down to her and find her self identity on her own. She seems to be unaware
of the confinements of either culture and seems to have no problem in expressing herself or in
embracing her American culture. A

Company Q and Social Responsibility
Company Q and Social Responsibility
EST1
Evaluation Company Q s attitude toward social responsibility reflects a negative reputation on them
as a corporation in their current community. The geographical location in a major metropolitan area
should sustain the business with a solid consumer base and maintain reliance of current investors.
However, they closed two stores in high crime areas for consistently losing profits, waning investor
trust and damaging employee faith. The decision to close the stores limits their ability to be
socially responsible to its stakeholders and potentially contributes to the areas crime level.

The company can use these requests to poll which products that the customers would most likely
want to purchase. This way Company Q can zero in on satisfying their customers and eliminate
products that have the least amount of demand. A second opportunity that presents itself is
establishing new supplier relationships within the local community by generating partnerships
between Company Q and organic producers. By the company forming new relationships with local
producers the local economy is strengthened and new development encouraged in the community.
The purchase of organic products from local vendors will also keep transportation expenses down
and Company Q can then forward that savings to customers by offering lower prices.Company Q
would benefit greatly from this action by offering a broader range of health conscience products
and partnering with local suppliers. These relationships will supplement Company Q in changing
their approach to being socially responsible.
Action 3 A third recommendation is to revisit the decision of donating day old products to the area
s local food banks. By denying the request all together and opting to toss out the day old products
is damaging to Company Q s image. The company needs to exhibit accountability to society by
supporting their local food bank illustrating community support by offering day old products to
their local food bank. Company Q should then monitor donations with a checks and balances system

A Arranged Marriage
Humans, regardless of their location in the world have many aspects of their lives that are similar
to one another. From daily life to traditions humans share a lot of attributes with one another in
which they do not realize. One of the greatest parts of life would be finding a person out in the
world that you are privileged to spend the rest of your life with. An equal half to you, someone who
bares all the grueling and breath taking moments that life has planned. The practice of marriagehas
been around since the earliest civilizations. To this day still continues just as strong. However the
possibility of finding the potential other person to spend the rest of your life can find you or can be
found through an outside connection. As a result of modern social constructs and the methodology
of traditional arranged marriages, they do not possess the marital requirements essential to succeed
in the western culture.
An arranged marriage can be defined as the union of two individuals to be married, brought
together by a third party individual outside of the relationship. Throughout the course of history,
arranged marriages have had a substantial role in shaping it, originally dating back centuries
before and were considered a common practice around the majority of cultures. Marriage, for
example in Hinduism is considered a coming together of two souls, and the longevity of it can
extend into their next lives. In addition, it is also seen as a dharma meaning a mandatory

The Fountainhead Gail Wynand Character Analysis
The book The Fountainhead written by Ayn Rand, has many characters whose backgrounds paved
the various themes of this particular novel. As the protagonist of the story, Roark Howard goes
against the conformity that most of the other characters allege with. Coincidentally, some of the
other characters follow suit in immoral ways, not because they want to, but because they feel it is
the only way to survive. Among the culprits of this description falls this character who appears
later in the story: Gail Wynand. Being head of this newspaper, The Banner, Wyand panders in an
unethical manner because he wants to publish what will consistently bring cash, what is uniformly
wanted, and he covers it up to deem it overall justifiable. As many newspapers, the goal is to notify
the public of current phenomenon that had occurred on a public level. Wynand s papper The
Banner held this interest too. Although to more of a degree that stunned, amused, and collected

Similarly are the motives of Gail Wynand a character in The Fountainhead. After a childhood of
despair and fighting to survive, Wynand wanted something that he could be sure in. His only
ethical moral was to survive. This meant getting enough money in any way that had to be
compromised. To do this he conformed to the public in ways that made the unethical seem alright
to immerse in. Wyand panders only on the account that he can prove it as proper to himself. He
does so by fulfilling his one moral, considering the mast want as virtuous, and attempts to disguise
his in fallacies with pleasant deeds that are associated with saint. No matter what the outside, or
the inside seems like, Gail Wynand is a dark lost soul that is looking for love, in places where it

Current Views On Behavior Parenting Practices
CURRENT VIEWS Some of the current view on ODD is that it develops due to ineffective
parenting practices. Meaning that the parent of the child does not have the proper skill to raise
the child properly. If the child continues to be defiant the child will most likely develop a pattern,
this could lead to the child being diagnosed with ODD. If the parent takes the child to get
treatment before it starts to escalate they will hopefully be able to change the child s ways so that
they will be able to improve their life (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2015)
DIAGNOSIS
For a person to be diagnosed with ODD the person must meet the symptoms of ODD. If the
person that is displaying the eight symptoms of ODD they have to be persistent for 6 months
until they can be diagnosed (Drabick, 2010). This is a very important prat of diagnosis because if
the person does not have the symptoms for that specific about of time the person that is diagnosing
them will not be able to consider this disorder because it did not meet the diagnostic requirements.
When the client meets the criteria for diagnosis they will then be analyzed and then treated for the
disorder that is given if any is given to the client.
AGE OF ONSET AND OTHER FACTORS The age of onset for ODD would be during the early
years of childhood and adolescents (Essau, 2003). The child will most likely show these symptoms
around people that they are the most comfortable. An example of this would be Claire. When
Claire was in the presence of

The sound of Louis Armstrong and and people dancing could be heard throughout the old jazz
hall. The smell of hard work and cigar smoke is very potent. These are the very few things that
make retro jazz important. People would fill theatres and music halls to see the all time great jazz
musicians for just an hour. Today however, Jazz is not thriving as well as it used to back in the
early 1900s.
Jazz is not only an artform, but also a story of a race. Jazz was created to help deal with the

Even though there are many types or forms of jazz, one of them stands out. Improvisational Jazz
requires the musician to spontaneously create melodies continuously over multiple chord changes.
Since the musician is able to create their own rhythms, they can play how they actually feel. As
the great jazz musician Duke Ellington put it, You ve got to find some way of saying it without
saying it. What Ellington means is instead of voicing your opinion, allow your instrument to speak
for you. Play your instrument as if you are writing with pen and paper. Wynton Marsalis once said,
In Jazz, improvisation isn t a matter of just making any ol thing up. Jazz, like any language, has its
own grammar and vocabulary. There s no right or wrong, just some choices that are better than
others. Both Duke Ellington and Wynton Marsalis are world renown jazz musicians who have
mastered the art of improv. Jazz musicians who can improv take their playing to an entirely new
level. Channeling their emotions and feelings into their instrument and then playing requires
creativity and expresses the beautiful artform of improvisational

The Molotov-Ribbtrop Pact
It seems that there were different motives for both the Soviets and the Germans when it came to
the agreement of the Molotov Ribbtrop Pact. Germany would need to form strong alliances in
order to restore and maintain power. The Treaty of Versailles would leave Germany in a
vulnerable position, particularly in regards to their economic conditions. Upon entering an
economic depression, the German people began to feel desperate, allowing for Hitler to develop a
rise in power, with rhetoric that promised more security and a greater Germany. It would be in later
1935 where Hitler would believe that he would be able to break some of the provisions of the
Treaty of Versailles.
In contrast, Britain had pushed the appeasement policy, and according

Similarities Between Gemilut Chasidim And Tikkun Olam
Jewish ethics are inspired by the Sacred texts and are expressed in several different ways. Ethics
have been derived from the Torah, and Prophetic visions, and are expressed through practices
like Gemilut Chasidim and Tikkun Olam. The Scared Texts teach that Jews should be open to
serving the poor and many mitzvot command Jewish people to address the needs of the poor.
Gemilut Chasidim is how adherents respond to the call of God to serve others. Literally, giving of
lovingkindness Gemilut Chasidim is a Jewish practice whereby adherents are required to give their
time in service of others with no expectation of reward, as the Torahcalls them to do. Deuteronomy

Political Impact On The Evolution Of Christianity
The evolution of Christianity has been a process that has taken thousands of years. Wars, laws, and
councils are all been results of this process. When one thinks of the evolution of Christianity,
politics typically do not come to mind. Surprisingly politics have had a large impact on the
evolution of Christianity. In some cases, the impact is so big, it determined the survival of
Christianity. Politics influenced Christian society when Pontius Pilate falsely accused Jesusof
treason, Emperor Constantine made Christianity legal in the Roman Empire, and the Council of
Chalcedon confirmed Jesus was God. One political event that influenced Christian society is
when Roman Prefect Pontius Pilate accused Jesus of treason. Pontius Pilate accused Jesus of
treason because himself, and other leaders of the Roman Empire felt threatened by Jesus (
Pontius Pilate Biography 2014). These leaders felt threatened by Jesus because he preached to
follow and worship only the Christian God, and no others. This was very threatening to leaders
of the Roman Empire like Pontius Pilate because they worried Christians would not obey their
orders, and8 when they tried to reinforce them the Christians would revolt. Since Pontius Pilate
was a Roman Prefect he had the authority to order the execution of a criminal, so to end his fear
he falsely claimed that Jesus told him he was the King of the Jews ( Pontius Pilate Biography
2014). This results in Jesus being convicted of treason, so Pontius Pilate

appreciating his culture, and wanting other Black peopleas a whole to be knowledgeable about their

people that are not Black that claim to be appreciative of African art, African American culture,
anything African come from a place of fetishtion and a false deep connection with African

He is selfish and and wants Porphyria to himself, he will not allow anyone else to have her and to
ensure this he kills her. This portrays Porphyria as his possession. The simplicity of the statement
also reflects the insanity of the speaker, to him killing Porphyria is a simplistic act.
The speaker discusses Porphyria s innocence, Fair, perfectly pure and good and the smiling little
rosy head this suggests that to him, Porphyria is pure and childlike. The alliteration draws attention
to her innocence and draws contrast to her previously seductive portrayal.
The speaker seems to want to possess Porphyria, so he reduces her to an object: a corpse, instead
of an independently thinking individual. Further evidence of the speaker s desire is demonstrated
through the repetition in that moment she was mine, mine . This emphasises the speaker s desire to
keep her in that perfect moment. The idea of Porphyria being the narrator s possession also
suggests something about the way in which he regards women.
The speaker s final line of the poem, And yet God has not said a word , suggests that he has got
away with Porphyria s murder. However this could also be interpreted as suggesting that men are
superior to women as God has not condemned him for killing

determining specific circuits responsible due to the complexity of nervous tissue. Another being
that DBS makes use of high frequency stimulation (HFS) which itself produces a myriad of
changes in activity that can be hard to pin down in target cells. The final being that DBS creates
artefacts through electrical stimulation that clouds target cell responses in neural circuits1.
Parkinson s Disease (PD) is characterized by a loss of dopamine in the striatum that results in both
motor and affective pathologies. Specifically modulated are the direct and indirect pathways in the
basal ganglia. The indirect pathway is studied in this paper and comprises the global pallidus
interna and its afferent synapses on the subthalamic nucleus.2 To address this aspect of PD and the
aforementioned DBS issues the authors decided to make use of channel rhodopsins,
halorhodopsins, optrodes and optical stimulation. To induce the PD symptoms, rodents were
injected with 6 hydroxydopamine (6 OHDA) to induce hemi parkinsonian symptoms on the
contralateral side and in vivo delivery of ChR2 and NpHR was done via lentiviruses.
The first experiment focused on establishing the DBS technique and other methods for the

Human Tooth, Tooth Decay

Human tooth
Teeth of humans are small, calcified, whitish structures found in the mouth that are used to break
down food. The roots of teeth are embedded in the maxilla (upper jaw) or the mandible (lower
jaw) and are covered by gums. Teeth are made of multiple tissues of varying density and hardness.
Teeth are among the most distinctive (and long lasting) features of mammal species. Humans, like
other mammals, are diphyodont, meaning that they develop two sets of teeth. The first set (also
called the baby , milk , primary , and deciduous set) normally starts to appear at about six months
of age, although some babies are born with one or more visible teeth, known as neonatal ... Show

Depending on the extent of tooth destruction, various treatments can be used to restore teeth to
proper form, function, and aesthetics, but there is no known method to regenerate large amounts of
tooth structure. Instead, dental health organizations advocate preventive and prophylactic
measures, such as regular oral hygiene and dietary modifications, to avoid dental caries.
Causes
There are four main criteria required for caries formation: a tooth surface (enamel or dentin);
caries causing bacteria; fermentable carbohydrates (such as sucrose); and time. The caries
process does not have an inevitable outcome, and different individuals will be susceptible to
different degrees depending on the shape of their teeth, oral hygiene habits, and the buffering
capacity of their saliva. Dental caries can occur on any surface of a tooth that is exposed to the
oral cavity, but not the structures that are retained within the bone. All caries occurs from acid
demineralization that exceeds saliva and fluoride remineralization, and almost all acid
demineralization occurs where food (containing carbohydrate like sugar) is left on teeth. Though
most trapped food is left between teeth, over 80% of cavities occur inside pits and fissures on
chewing surfaces where brushing, fluoride, and saliva cannot reach to remineralize the tooth as
they do on easy to reach surfaces that develop few cavities.

Persuasive Essay On Unfair Prejudice
People have been unfairly judged since the beginnings of time, everyday someone out there is
being bullied, unfairly harmed because of their race, or unprivileged because of their race or
cultural background. Whether they were the victims or the bullies everyone has at one point
experienced some form of inconsiderate judgement in their lives. It is no surprise that people
have been unfairly judged for hundreds of years now. There has been many cases of racism all
over the world. From slavery and the racial segregation of African Americans in the U.S, to the
Holocaust and persecution of jews in WWII, people all over the world have been discriminated
for their appearance. Historically the practice of unfair prejudice has been around for centuries.
Although discrimination has significantly decreased over time it is still something we see in
today s society and many people have to deal with the disadvantages it brings. Currently, the U.S
is the most discriminative nation towards other cultural minorities and it has even come to a
point where policemen in the U.S have been questioned for their actions. This is shown in many
cases when people of color have been killed without evidence of hostile behavior towards the
authorities and this has stirred up a lot of controversy over the past few years. Many diverse ethnic
groups have evidently been conflicted by unfair prejudice across the U.S. A group that has been
conflicted by this are citizens of Middle Eastern descent, after the

Mandatory Physical Education I
Current high school students are becoming fatter, slower, and less motivated than past students.
Many of these young people would prefer to be sitting passively in front of the television rather than
to do something physically active. Most high school students believe they do not have sufficient
time, opportunity or guidance to participate in physical activities. The ideal place in which students
would be able to find adequate time, opportunity and guidance are in the high schools themselves.
Politicians and educators responsible for the mandatory physical educationprogram at the junior
high schoollevels (grades eight to ten) should be applauded for this, but frowned upon for not
enforcing it on senior high school students (grades 11... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If these skills are not learned at a young age then it is the responsibility of high schools to teach
how to develop and apply these skills. Communication skills are essential in many aspects of life
because it may be the determining factor in a job interview or just in casual conversation with a
friend. If students are not taught social skills they often become self conscious and shy in social
contacts (Hartmann, 1982, p.22). If play skills are not developed early then they will are usually
not developed at all. This could be a factor which effects social behavior of teenagers and could
contribute to delinquency, social and family problems. Students with these problems usually lack
social skills which serve as being part of group contacts. Symptoms of this may be visible
nervousness and general lack of confidence during conversations with others. More importantly,
physical activity allows students the opportunity to relieve stress and enjoy themselves.
Physical education provides a combination of physical, intellectual and social challenges that other
subjects such as physics may not provide. Although the physical aspect is the most dominant, it is
not necessarily the most important. Sports such as basketball, volleyball and hockey help in
developing and refining gross motor skills and improve coordination. Muscular strength and
endurance are also enhanced, while flexibility is also improved through the participation of sports.
As you may already know, sport is

Freedom of Speech vs. Censorship on the Internet
Freedom of Speech Vs. Censorship:
Children on the Internet
The internet is a very controversial communication device in today s society. If desired, one
could find information on nearly any topic they choose. Censorship and free speech is a widely
discussed topic when dealing with the current freedom of the internet especially when dealing
with young minds. Should the internet have censored topics which would be illegal to post and
/or view freely by children? Should the internet be a free for all arena in which anyone could do
as they wish without judgment of others opinions and views imposing on their own? So far in

As a result of this and the international span of the internet, it is hard for the FCC to be an overseer
of the medium. Certain controversial laws have attempted to set in place regulations that censor
ethically and socially dubious materials from publication on the web. The topic that has been at the
forefront of debate deals with obscene materials. This is a heated topic because the definition of
obscenity is very vague and subject to interpretation. What is considered to be obscene can be
viewed very differently depending on ones personal morals, beliefs, and values. For example, a
parent who is highly religious and living in the United States may view nudity on cable television
as obscene and pornographic for their child to view, while a person with the same religious beliefs
living in Europe or another part of the world may just view this as art or entertainment. This is due
to the difference in societal views on obscenity.
To get to the root of what is considered obscene, a test for judging obscene material was set in the
case of Miller v. California. This modern test for obscenity consists of three parts: (1) the
proscribed material must depict or describe sexual conduct in a patently offensive way, (2) the
conduct must be specifically described in the law, and (3) the work must,

related to the hypnotic hypoalgesia condition (2.9+/ 0.4, P 0.0001) compared to the control
condition (5.4+/ 0.3). During all three experimental conditions, the NRS scores were reported as a
mean and compared using an analysis of variance (ANOVA). The analyses of the NRS is a
collection of quantitative data measured on an interval obtained from the participants throughout
the duration of the experiment (Abrahamsen et al., 2010).
The areas of the brain associated with the pain matrix, the right posterior insula and the primary
somatosensory cortex, showed a significant increase in activation in response to the control
condition during the painful pin prick stimulus compared to no painful stimulus. There was also a
significant increase in activation of the right posterior middle temporal gyrus, the middle frontal
gyrus, the left supramarginal gyrus, and the precentral gyrus. A portion of the posterior insula was
significantly activated during the hypnotic hypoalgesia condition with the painful prick stimuli.
The painful prick stimulation in the hypnotic hyperalgesia condition showed an increase in the

A P , written by John Updike, is based on a moment in the life of a cashier. He was known as
Sammy and he referred to his position in the grocery store as a slot checker. Sammy spent his time

entered the store and attracted his attention. He describes the three girls movements and watches

His boss, Lengel is a symbol of authority to Sammy in this literary work. Sammy seemingly dreads
the sight of his manager. This is depicted when Sammy states:
Then everybody s luck begins to run out. Lengel comes in from haggling with a truck full of

However, when the girls were embarrassed by Lengel Sammy s personality changed. He stood up

which states: The girls, and who d blame them are in a hurry to get out, so I say I quit .... Did you
say something, Sammy? I said I quit. I thought you did. You didn t have to embarrass them. (490)

wanted to witness this kind of behavior. Consequently, he had to quit his job. Initially, Sammy was

Good And Evil In The Film The Exorcist
In the bluntest way you can say that the 1973 film The Exorcist is about a little girl,Regan who

point of it all is, you have to dig deeper. According to the director William Friedkin the filmis really

maybe the most import which side wins? The force of good is represented through god, the church,

Importance Of Extinction Of Plants And Animals
The extinction of plants and animals is a major issue that cannot be ignored by society. Although
extinction and decline in population is a natural occurrence, the rate of population decline and
extinction has been highly escalated because of human acts such as deforestation and overhunting.
Researchers and scientists have tried to combat these issues and prevent extinctionthrough captive
breeding programs and conservation education, but are criticised for housing animals in zoos or
even theme parks. These obstacles have made it more difficult to effectively protect endangered
animals and educate about the importance of conservation. Dedicated researchers and zoologists
also struggle when studying the behavior and ecology of these animals because of this criticism.
Zoos have not always been classified as public institutes geared to entertain and educate in a family
friendly way. The common zoothat society is familiarized with today first stemmed from the exotic
animal collection of royal families which eventually led to both human entertainment through
circuses and education through modern day animal research programs. Obviously both are very
different, but animal research in captivity, such as zoos, is still criticized. Many present day zoos
are still condemned for animal mistreatment similar to that of circuses, but both have completely
dissimilar goals. Today s zoos are held to strict animal standards and are also highly regarded for
the work they do to conserve

bass and treble strings branched off into their own movements. Throughout the piece, the strings in

The And The Industrial Man
Since the founding of America, no singular method of governmental role has been adopted. The
concept of governmental role in American society is a subjective point. While some believe in a
strong government that controls and expands its role over many aspects of American society, others
believe that limiting governmentpower is necessary to having a thriving society and economy. Clark
Kerr wrote the document Industrialism and the Industrial Man which highlights and explains the
perspective of having a centralized government in power. Contrastingly, Capitalism and Freedom,
written by Milton Friedman is in support of a limited government and placing a check on
concentrated power. Both documents reflect the two different styles of government and provide
context to their functions and the application of their duties. In Industrialism and the Industrial
Man, Clark Kerr depicts the concept of an industrial society characterized by a government that has
a wide range of activities and functions it controls. In this industrial society, the government
provides and controls technology, infrastructure, urban development, military, international
relations, education, parks, healthcare, and many other services to society. The government also
keeps order of the economy, controlling the labor and product markets. Even though this big
government has many functions and controls a large sector of society, Kerr explains that the

Colitis
Introduction
Infectious bacterial diarrhea is a common occurrence among the elderly people, children, and the
immunocompromised individuals. One of the major reasons behind the infectious diarrhea is the
inflammation of the colon. Colitis is the inflammation of the colon resulting to symptoms such as
diarrhea, tenesmus, fever, and severe abdominal pain. The common pathologic organisms
responsible for the infection include Camphylobacter, Shigella, Salmonella, Escherichia, and the
Yersinia species (Papaconstantinou, Thomas, 2007). The initial infection of Camphylobacter, C,
fetus, was discovered and described in 1947 after several cases appeared and it was isolated from
blood (Loss, Mangla, Pereira, 1980). Later, the discovery of new identification techniques led to the
isolation of other strains of the species. Currently, the identification has developed, leading to
isolation of bacteria such as Camphylobacter and E. coli in culture techniques and other isolation
techniques. Treatment of this disease uses multidisciplinary approach of both antibiotics and
supportive therapy.
Epidemiology
The epidemiology of the disease depends on the causative agent. E. coli virulence requires 10 to
100 organisms to cause a disease. An estimate of 70,000 people contract E. coli and approximately
60 deaths occur from this bacteria (Papaconstantinou, Thomas, 2007). The bacteria is transmitted
via the fecal oral route through consumption of contaminated food (66%)

shares would be used to pay the borrowed Ubid share under the short selling contract. The
consequence of such transaction is that the balance of asset purchased on margin and balance of
short sale assets (i.e Ubid shares) are both closed off after the repayment of short sale asset, giving
rise to a net amount of zero. By contrast, there would be $32.625 worth of asset purchased on

The Charms Of The Central Park
Although Tanis Lightbody could hear the sounds of New York City softly wafting over the low
wall to where he sat just inside Central Park s North Woods, it was the silence from within the park
that echoed in his ears, that resonated with the silence within him that he cultivated as he watched
the sunset beyond the woods, beyond the glass, steel, and concrete mountains that surrounded the
park.
Tanis knew that to the east a pale full moon was rising and would soon bathe he and the park in its
silver light, and that was the best time for his rock hounding, the best time for him to harvest the
Star Stones he used to make his jewelry and sculptures, the stuff off his livelihood.
While the artwork hadn t caught on yet, his jewelry, which he ... Show more content on

Aw yeah, Man, since we was kids, or was that a rhetorical question, he said.
Tanis chuckled, fighting to repress a cough brought on by the weed and his friend s answer. No, I

I know what you meant, Nigger. This is some leftover glacial shit, right? I remember when Miss
Johnston took us out to Glen Cove out on Long Island in the sixth grade. You and me found that
fossil and the museum there said it was some Native American arrowhead and kept it. I wanted to
keep that shit. You did too.
Tanis nodded as he let the smoke drift from his mouth and held the joint a bit too long for Buck
who reached out for it snapping his fingers for his friend to pass it.
Tanis looked around the park as the shadows lengthened and the lamposts came on. I think that s
when I became a Rock Hound, man. I mean, I think that s when I fell in love with rocks and shit,
he said patting his rapidly cooling granite seat. It s like from then on I started collecting them and
then I got that Rock Polisher for Christmas
Yeah, and that s probably why your ass still ain t got a job neither, Bucky said as he stubbed the
joint out on the rock and put the remaining roach in his jacket pocket.
Hey, I pay the bills. You just worry about keeping that damn subway train on the tracks and hope
you can keep from poppin positive on your piss tests.
Bucky waived him off. Whatever, Nigger. Get a job.

Equality In Military
For years, women s rights advocates have been calling for an expansion and inclusion of women
in all military positions. The argument is that women have already been in combat and these
feminist groups asserts that the current exclusion of women is a form of sex discrimination. While
it is true that women have in been in a firefight, these women on the ground are mostly auxiliary
forces serving as medics or liaisons for female civilians.
However, the idea of placing women in direct combat in an infantry position is a different question
altogether. It is important to realize that gender equality should not be a factor in recruiting infantry
personnel. An effective fighting unit should have speed and tempo, lethality, readiness, survivability

Segal, Smith, D. Segal and Canuso (2016) argues that women s integration is no different than
the integration of African Americans and the repeal of Don t Ask, Don t Tell (DADT). During
World War II, white soldiers who were in more contact with black soldiers were less opposed to
racial integration. Likewise, the repeal of DADT was a non issue because there was already a
closed and sustained contact. In the same way, male peers would accept women in combat as
shown in the interaction with Military Occupation Code (MOS) positions that allow gender
integration. The CMR (2015) disputes these by asserting that unity of purpose of war and not
gender diversity is what will strengthen the armed forces. Rather, racial integration strengthened the
armed forces and fulfill a military

Sport and Manliness in Antebellum America
I do not accept the thesis that American men living in cities before the Civil War engaged in sport
primarily to define themselves, publicly, as manly. I would accept this thesis if it had stated that
men living in cities before the Civil War engaged in sports to define themselves, publicly, and
manly. The word that made me disagree with the original thesis is the word primarily . I am not
stating that men did not engage in sportto define themselves, publicly, as manly, but I do not
think that it is the primary reason. I would have also accepted this thesis if it had stated that men
living in cities before the Civil War engaged in prize fighting primarily to define themselves,
publicly, as manly. Prizefighting is a sport but it does not provide the standard for all sports. I
will use excerpts from the various sources we have read in class in order to defend my position.
What is the purpose of sport? The answer to this question has many different answers for the
many different types of people. For some people sport is a source means of entertainment, for
others it is source of exercise and recreation. It can be another opportunity for someone to gamble
or it can be a way to make new friends and enjoy other peoples company. In some sports, like prize
fighting and wrestling, men can exhibit their manliness or superiority through competition but there
were and still are many more sports than simply prize fighting and wrestling. Since the beginning of

Economic Changes In The Gilded Age
The Gilded Age was a very special time for our nation that took place from the 1870s to around
1900. During this time, economic growth was at a rapid increase, politics were corrupted yet had
high turnouts, and urbanization flourished. Every aspect of the life of an American changed
drastically throughout this time of the Gilded Age. The entire era was focused on the enormous
changes that each aspect of America was going through. As this is brought to attention, if we are to
look into the way that America is in our time of today, we can find that there are many similarities
to that of the original Gilded Age. The United Statesof America have currently found themselves to
be experiencing the second era of the Gilded Age throughout the areas of economic, politic and
social transformation. During the first Gilded Age that occurred in the late 1800s, economic
growth was at an all time high. At this time, the wages that were given to American were at an
increased rate compared to that of the wages that were given in Europe. Due to this, an abundant
amount of European immigrants came over to the United States because of this inflated wage.
These economic advances were due to that of several technological advances that had come about
in this time. The industrial production skyrocketed, which, in turn, made for increased economic
wealth for Americans. Similarly, to this time, America in this day and age is experiencing its own
expansion in economy. Tax breaks in today s world

Several different factors can affect who develops Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and it can
happen to anyone. Having a lot of exposure to a traumatic event, like a war makes it more likely
that a person will develop PTSD. Certain types of trauma can increase the chances of someone
getting PTSD such as combat, and sexual assault (PTSD what is). Although medication and
psychotherapy help PTSD patients reduce their symptoms, it remains a difficult disorder to treat.
Many veterans suffering from PTSD see the disorder as a weakness and either fail to report their
symptoms, go undiagnosed, or they drop out of their therapy (Glintborg). So, it remains necessary
to find alternative therapies, and integrating support animals remains a viable option.
Current Treatment Limitations Many different treatments available for PTSD that have minimized
PTSD symptoms. The most common form of treatment being trauma focused psychotherapies,
which has many different forms, to which the most effective seems to be exposure therapy. Its
success works by having patients face their fears, and talking about the traumatic event. Frequently
these therapies are paired with another form of treatment such as medication. Depression and
anxiety medication work best for most PTSD cases. Nevertheless, limitations to the successes of
these treatments do exist. Some studies have estimated that of the general population with PTSD
diagnoses, only 49.9%

Analysis Of Wonder By R. J Palacio
Wonder by R.J. Palacio is a story about a ten year old fifth grader, August Pullman, who is born
with a facial deformity. August starts school at Beecher Prep, a private school in upper
Manhattan, after being homeschooled for the last five years. He struggles to make friends at
first, but meets Summer Dawson and Jack Will, who become his friends. On Halloween, August
dresses up in a Bleeding Scream costume when everybody at school is expecting him to dress up
as Boba Fett. Not realizing it s August, Jack says, I ve thought about this a lot, and I really
think...if I looked liked him, seriously I think that I d kill myself (Palacio 77). Although August is
initially hurt by Jack s words, surprisingly they make up. At the annual fifth gradefield trip, August
and Jack seek a place to go the bathroom in the woods when they are maliciously made fun of by
some seventh graders from another school. They get out of the situation when some students who
had made fun of August before come to his defense. At the fifth grade graduation, August does the
unthinkable: He wins the Henry Ward Beecheraward for a student whose quiet strength has carried
them up to the most hearts (Palacio 304).
Setting
Students will relate to the setting of Wonder well because it takes place in a school and Palacio
describes it so well with many vivid details. The book is set in the upper east side of Manhattan in
present day time. Much of the book takes place at Beecher Prep, a private school for

The Famous Chicago Style Hot Dogs
In United States, the hotdog is as American as apple pie; however, the sausages were culturally
imported from Germany, called Frankfurters and eventually popularized and renamed ,hotdog, in
the U.S. In Chicago, there s a specialty hotdog that almost all Chicagoans and tourist eat. It s so
special that there are over thousand made in small food stands throughout Chicago. On February
8th, 2014, I went to Donald s Famous Hotdogs in Chicago Illinois. Donald s is a small diner
serving soup, sandwiches, and hotdogs. I ordered the best item on the menu, the Chicago style
hotdog. The Chicago style hotdog stands out from the rest because it s delicious flavor, colorful
presentation and variety of condiments.
What separates Donald s Chicago style the other Chicago style hotdog is not the topping but the
fundamental idea of hot dog, the sausage. There are two types of hotdog sausages, wieners which
tend to contain pork and chicken or turkey. Theses sausages are inexpensive but lack in flavor
while frankfurters or franks tend to more expensive, nevertheless are all beef and strongly
seasoned. Equally important is the hotdog s casing. Traditional casing is made from the small
intestines of sheep; it s known as natural casing franks. These sausages have firm texture and have
a signature snap that releases its juicy flavor when bitten. Donald s Chicago style hotdog is served
with an all beef frank which adds to taste overall. The recognizable curved shape of the hotdog is

William Browning And Elizabeth Barrett Browning Essay
The Two Authors Different Perspective Literatures in the Victorian Era
Many authors are influenced by the society, culture, politic and economy during their period.
Therefore, their literary works usually describe the condition of their period directly or indirectly.
The two authors, Roberts Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, also expose the culture and the
condition of the society of the Victorian era through their works. The authors are married couple
authors of the Victorian era. Roberts Browning s a typical literary work is My Last Duchess.
Elizabeth Barrett Browning s one of the most famous work is Aurora Leigh. In the two poems, the
authors mainly focus on the different gender roles. Even though the two Victorian era literatures,
Aurora Leigh and My Last Duchess, demonstrate the social issue, which is a sexual discrimination
during the Victorian era, each author emphasizes the seriousness of the issue by using different
perspectives on women s roles and positions. My Last Duchess, which was written by Roberts
browning demonstrates the horrible condition of the Victorian society by exposing the author s
perspective on the genders role in the Victorian era. The book, the literature of the Victorian era,
defines the poem a perfect picture of cold blooded heartlessness, a thing possible in any age though
fortunately (Hugh 427). The poem clearly shows the dreadful social condition for a woman in the
Victorian era. According to the author, Michael O Neill,

Analysis of Tintern Abbey by William Wordsworth Essay
Analysis of Tintern Abbey by William Wordsworth
William Wordsworth existed in a time when society and its functions were beginning to rapidly
pick up. The poem that he Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey, on Revisiting the Banks
of the Wye , gave him a chance to reflect upon his quick paced life by taking a moment to slow
down and absorb the beauty of nature that allows one to see into the life of things ; (line 49).
Wordsworth s TinternAbbey ; takes you on a series of emotional states by trying to sway readers
and himself, that the loss of innocence and intensity over time is compensated by an accumulation
of knowledge and insight. ; Wordsworth accomplishes to prove that although time was lost along
with his innocence, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wordsworth stood on the cliff not only with the sense of present pleasure ; (63) but he joyfully
anticipated the moments for future years ; (65). He came back to reality and began to analyze
the situation after his reminiscing. Wordsworth realized that he had lost some guidance and was
searching for the presence of nature when returning to the Wye. He remembered when he used
to wander and roam as free as a roe but as he matured he felt content with tapping into his
memories of his youth because as Wordsworth stated, That time is past? other gifts have
allowed; for such loss, I would believe, abundant recompense ; (83 88). He realized that he was
involved with more mature things in life because he had become more intelligent through the
years and saw nature in the light of his intelligence. Yet, he insisted that he was still a lover of the
meadows and the woods, and the mountains; and of all that we behold from this green earth ; (102
105) but indeed, in a more composed way.
Nature played a major role in this poet s life but it was not all about his physical senses that he
took as reality. It was due to the fact that he was a worshipper of Nature (152) and he knew that
nature never did betray (122) him. And those thoughts were what had comforted and encouraged
him to connect with nature through his mind. He wanted to affirm to his readers that his mind not

The Magna Cart An Absolute Monarchy

England did not develop an absolute monarchy because of parliament s power and laws which took

brought important documents into play which were then followed by the enlightenment and the
revolution , therefore creating England s constitutional monarchy.
The Magna Carta was one of the most important documents of Medieval England. The Magna
Carta was signed on June 1215 by the barons of Medieval England and King John. The Magna
Carta was an agreement made by the barons to stop a king like King John from abusing his power
with England. The document had agreements written

It Happened One Night Characteristics
Certain costume characteristics such as color, fabric, class, and silhouette where used to help
portray details about the characters in the movie It Happened One Night. Fabrics are an
important characteristic for costumes because it helps to distinguish quality and cost. Ellie was
dressed in silk in the beginning and end of the movie. When Ellie was with her father on his
yacht and when she went back home with her father she was wearing silk dresses on both
occasions. This tells us that they are from upper class and have money to be able to afford silk
dresses. When Peter is introduced he is wearing a trench coat which is probably made from a
cotton or polyester blend. Through most of the movie Peter is seen wearing the same suit which
looks like a cotton polyester blend.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During Ellie s journey to New York she was wearing a black blouse with white stripes in the
shape of a V and a long skirt that was solid black. The silk dresses she wore during the beginning
and end of the movie were a pearl white. The silk dresses were very elegant and upscale showing
her upper class status and her snobby personality. The black blouse with white stripes and the
black skirt were meant to fit in with people that would ride a bus. From the moment we met
Peter in his solid beige trench coat at the bus station to the ending when he met Ellie s father in
his nice black suit, Peter s clothes were nothing but solid colors from beige, grey, and black. The
only time Peter wore something that was not a solid color was when him and Ellie first stayed
together in a motel room and he put on his robe that was black with white dots. The solid colors
that Peter wore helped to distinguish that he was middle class with a proud personality. Class
can be defined as quality or cost of a costume or designs and patterns on a costume. The first silk
dress worn by Ellie had a pattern on it and it appeared to be

  • 2. The World Labor Market The stabilization of the labor supply created the world market labor (Lecture, February 25, 2014). For example, this resulted in millions of people to come to America and involve themselves in working for our country. However, migrants tend to always get paid little amounts which does not really help them out the way that they need or hope for but they stick around anyways. In addition, increased migration primarily helps the government s economic state. For instance, the United States has a large labor market. There are numerous tasks that need to be competed on a daily basis. By hiring migrants they are able to pay them extremely little compared to the profits that are being made. Which means the government s economy is highly dependent on global workers (Robinson,267). This is why emigrants can be seen as heroes. And they should be treated with decency because dependent countries such as the US cannot afford to lose them (Robinson,267). In the article by Alejandro Portes, he explains that capital being global and labor being local is nothing new. That the modern world system has grown because of the abroad labor system occurring. (Portes,152). He also mentions that the process of transnational communities in the world system resulted in many advantages. However, he says those advantages are entirely on the side of those able to...thus turning globalization into the final apotheosis of capital... (Portes, 152). • 3. Lucille Clifton Grandma We Are Poetry Analysis Great pieces of literature allow for someone to relate to the piece. As I read grandma, we are poets by Lucille Clifton I could relate. I did not read it as if I related to autism, but as I remember all the words that define who were are by society s standards. In Clifton s poem emotion could be felt when portraying those with autism and I was determined to make a similar piece. For my piece I began to define beauty based on society s definition rather than how Clifton defines autism by the dictionary definition. I wanted there to be two different voices heard in my poem. The first voice was that of myself as I reminisce on what beauty felt like as I grew up. The other voice is society and all the ideas that make someone beautiful. I decided to use the word beauty because I have been talking to my sister lately and a boy told her she was not pretty enough to be his girlfriend. I realized writing a poem was a good way to portray to her that no matter what anyone says she is always going to be beautiful. I was able to write my own experience because there is no better way to explain something than through one s own examples. This advice coming from an older sister is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my own piece I decided to use my own experience from when I was younger to explain to my little sister that no matter what society says she is beautiful the way she is. As I read the third stanza in Clifton s work she used the word imagined multiple times to portray what a kid with autism is feeling or doing as they see people or hear words. I felt that the word change was a great way to portray raw emotion in my piece. I used the dashes before the word to exaggerate the change that society was yelling in my head. Finally, the last change comes, but it is modified to changed. I used the word changed to evoke emotion because I had finally given into society and what society sketched as ... • 4. American Religion in Long Days Journey into Night Essay American Religion in Long Days Journey into Night The modernist sentiments throughout Long Days Journey into Night, by Eugene O Neill, are apparent in many different ways. Among the methods he used was the portrayal of America s withdrawal from traditional religion and modes of behavior. He used his immigrant Irish family, the Tyrones, as a pedestal for this idea by highlighting their departure from traditional Irish beliefs and their struggle to form new, uniquely American, ones. O Neill did this by repeatedly evoking a drastic difference between his character s conduct and their Irish Catholic counterparts. He replaced the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Tyrones also formed a new counterpart to the Catholic sacrament of confession, in which a higher authority forgives people of their sins. • 5. Surgical Implant Essay Long term effects: surgical implants Chronic exposure to medically implanted metals is of growing interest to medical providers. Gallo, Kaminek, Ticha, Rihakova and Ditmar (2002) compiled a review on particle disease. This is complication found in hip replacement patients that is characterized by aseptic loosening and periprosthetic osteolysis. The burden of wear on the weight bearing surfaces of the implant produces particles. These particles are only one of several factors that contribute to the complex osteolytic process. Osteoblasts are key in the process of bone formation. Metal particles can inhibit osteoblast production and function. Oldenburg, Wegner and Baur (2009) described the case of a 55 year old man with a metal on ceramic hip... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since this technique uses X rays to obtain the required information for analysis, the same concerns over radiation exposure exist for this procedure as for traditional radiographs. Again, the risk of radiation exposure must be weighed against the potential benefit CT provides. • 6. Elasticity of Labour Demand Essay example Elasticity of Labour Demand Labour is a derived demand realised by the demand for the product that the labour will be producing. The theory of labour demand explains the behaviour of the firm with the key principle being to achieve the optimal amounts of labour employers will want to utilise at different wage levels. We must make several assumptions when describing how the long run labour demand is derived. Firstly we must assume that firms are profit maximisers and therefore will attempt always to minimise any costs incurred. Further assumptions to simplify analysis of labour demand are that there are no costs of employment other than hourly wages and productivity of labour is independent of time worked. I.e. Labour is homogenous.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If this equation was rewritten, the slope of the isoquant would be found. The slope of the isoquant can be formulated by the marginal rate of technical substitution. (†K/ †L) = (MPL /MPK) As previously mentioned, a profit maximising firm will always wish to minimise costs. A budget constraint will signify the fixed sum that a firm can spend on inputs. It is the financial constraint of a firm. Capital can be given a charge of r (per unit bought) and labour can be given a price, w (wage rate per hour). Cost of Production = wL + rK If a firm were to spend its total budget on capital, it could purchase C/r, and similarly, to spend all its funds on labour, C/w could be hired. The slope of the firmsГ‚ financial constraint, or isocost, will hence be w/r, and all other points along the line show the various purchases they could make of the inputs. Criteria: В· An isocost line will give combinations that are equally costly В· A higher isocost line is associated with a larger budget В· The slope is linear and is the negative of the ratio of input prices ( w/r) Diagram Isocost Long run choice of inputs The long run labour demand curve is derived from the isocost isoquant analysis. The point where the isocost is tangential to the isoquant is where the maximum output is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Flaws of Non-Governmental Organizations in Developing... The role of Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in the world today has been increasingly questioned in recent literature as people begin to recognize the flaws of our development aid industry. The article NGOs A Tainted History by Firoze Manji and Carl O Coill explores the history of the rise of NGOs in Africain order to demonstrate that their aim is to control and colonize Africa. Similarly, the novel Damned Nations: Geed, Guns, Armies Aidby Samantha Nutt emphasizes the patriarchal tendencies of the aid industry and the influences of the political objectives of donor countries with descriptions of her first hand experiences on the field. With the articles Challenging Indifference to Extreme Poverty: Considering Southern Perspectives on Global Citizenship and Change by Barbara Heron and International NGOs and the Aid Industry: constraints on international Solidarity by Molly Kane in mind, I considered the effects and roles of NGOs as development organizations and instruments of change. Whereas the compilation of stories in Generation NGO, edited by Alisha Apale and Valerie Stam, recollected individual experiences of development workers, highlighting the moral and ethical challenges they faced day to day. Analysis of the abovementioned readings allowed me to conclude that NGOs are destructive in the developing countries in which they are situated because they impose colonialist influences, are biased towards their political supporters, are ineffective when faced ... As the purpose of train travel improved over the century, so did the material used for train tracks. The main material used in tracks is steel, and this is crack resistance to allow smooth and continuous travel during long journeys. Similarly, toy train tracks are designed in a similar fashion, but composed of different material such as wood or plastic. This conflict for many Asian American women was further exasperated as these women were forced to also deal with adjusting as first, second, and third generation Americans in a sometimes unwelcome society. As a child, Japanese American Janice Mirikitani, was interned, along with her mother, at a work relocation camp during 1941in Rohwer, Arkansas (Americans Who Tell the Truth @ AWTTT). The culture of Japanese tradition she left behind and that of the unwelcoming American culture. Instead of fighting against this persecution by the United States, she chose to remain silent and hidden within the confines of her Japanese culture. As a Nisei, second generation Japanese American, Janice begins to question her role as a woman in American in society. She wants to break the tradition of silence and speak out against the defined role that society has laid out for her. She makes attempts to do this in her own mind so that she can pass this knowledge on to her daughter, but she seems unable to do so. In the poem, she expresses her discontent at remaining silent and hopes that she can convey this yearning to break tradition, and be heard in society, to her daughter. Before she can express these sentiments to her sansei daughter, she realizes that her daughter was able to break this chain of silence that was passed down to her and find her self identity on her own. She seems to be unaware of the confinements of either culture and seems to have no problem in expressing herself or in embracing her American culture. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Company Q and Social Responsibility Company Q and Social Responsibility EST1 Evaluation Company Q s attitude toward social responsibility reflects a negative reputation on them as a corporation in their current community. The geographical location in a major metropolitan area should sustain the business with a solid consumer base and maintain reliance of current investors. However, they closed two stores in high crime areas for consistently losing profits, waning investor trust and damaging employee faith. By the company forming new relationships with local producers the local economy is strengthened and new development encouraged in the community. The purchase of organic products from local vendors will also keep transportation expenses down and Company Q can then forward that savings to customers by offering lower prices.Company Q would benefit greatly from this action by offering a broader range of health conscience products and partnering with local suppliers. These relationships will supplement Company Q in changing their approach to being socially responsible. Action 3 A third recommendation is to revisit the decision of donating day old products to the area s local food banks. By denying the request all together and opting to toss out the day old products is damaging to Company Q s image. The company needs to exhibit accountability to society by supporting their local food bank illustrating community support by offering day old products to their local food bank. From daily life to traditions humans share a lot of attributes with one another in which they do not realize. One of the greatest parts of life would be finding a person out in the world that you are privileged to spend the rest of your life with. An equal half to you, someone who bares all the grueling and breath taking moments that life has planned. The practice of marriagehas been around since the earliest civilizations. To this day still continues just as strong. However the possibility of finding the potential other person to spend the rest of your life can find you or can be found through an outside connection. As a result of modern social constructs and the methodology of traditional arranged marriages, they do not possess the marital requirements essential to succeed in the western culture. An arranged marriage can be defined as the union of two individuals to be married, brought together by a third party individual outside of the relationship. Throughout the course of history, arranged marriages have had a substantial role in shaping it, originally dating back centuries before and were considered a common practice around the majority of cultures. As the protagonist of the story, Roark Howard goes against the conformity that most of the other characters allege with. Coincidentally, some of the other characters follow suit in immoral ways, not because they want to, but because they feel it is the only way to survive. Among the culprits of this description falls this character who appears later in the story: Gail Wynand. Meaning that the parent of the child does not have the proper skill to raise the child properly. If the child continues to be defiant the child will most likely develop a pattern, this could lead to the child being diagnosed with ODD. If the parent takes the child to get treatment before it starts to escalate they will hopefully be able to change the child s ways so that they will be able to improve their life (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2015) DIAGNOSIS For a person to be diagnosed with ODD the person must meet the symptoms of ODD. If the person that is displaying the eight symptoms of ODD they have to be persistent for 6 months until they can be diagnosed (Drabick, 2010). This is a very important prat of diagnosis because if the person does not have the symptoms for that specific about of time the person that is diagnosing them will not be able to consider this disorder because it did not meet the diagnostic requirements. When the client meets the criteria for diagnosis they will then be analyzed and then treated for the disorder that is given if any is given to the client. AGE OF ONSET AND OTHER FACTORS The age of onset for ODD would be during the early years of childhood and adolescents (Essau, 2003). The child will most likely show these symptoms around people that they are the most comfortable. An example of this would be Claire. When Claire was in the presence of ... Upon entering an economic depression, the German people began to feel desperate, allowing for Hitler to develop a rise in power, with rhetoric that promised more security and a greater Germany. Wars, laws, and councils are all been results of this process. When one thinks of the evolution of Christianity, politics typically do not come to mind. Surprisingly politics have had a large impact on the evolution of Christianity. In some cases, the impact is so big, it determined the survival of Christianity. Politics influenced Christian society when Pontius Pilate falsely accused Jesusof treason, Emperor Constantine made Christianity legal in the Roman Empire, and the Council of Chalcedon confirmed Jesus was God. One political event that influenced Christian society is when Roman Prefect Pontius Pilate accused Jesus of treason. Pontius Pilate accused Jesus of treason because himself, and other leaders of the Roman Empire felt threatened by Jesus ( Pontius Pilate Biography 2014). These leaders felt threatened by Jesus because he preached to follow and worship only the Christian God, and no others. This was very threatening to leaders of the Roman Empire like Pontius Pilate because they worried Christians would not obey their orders, and8 when they tried to reinforce them the Christians would revolt. Since Pontius Pilate was a Roman Prefect he had the authority to order the execution of a criminal, so to end his fear he falsely claimed that Jesus told him he was the King of the Jews ( Pontius Pilate Biography 2014). The speaker discusses Porphyria s innocence, Fair, perfectly pure and good and the smiling little rosy head this suggests that to him, Porphyria is pure and childlike. The alliteration draws attention to her innocence and draws contrast to her previously seductive portrayal. The speaker seems to want to possess Porphyria, so he reduces her to an object: a corpse, instead of an independently thinking individual. Further evidence of the speaker s desire is demonstrated through the repetition in that moment she was mine, mine . This emphasises the speaker s desire to keep her in that perfect moment. The idea of Porphyria being the narrator s possession also suggests something about the way in which he regards women. Studies involving DBS are usually met with potential confounders as to the route of therapeutic intervention. The authors mentioned three, the first being the difficulty in determining specific circuits responsible due to the complexity of nervous tissue. Another being that DBS makes use of high frequency stimulation (HFS) which itself produces a myriad of changes in activity that can be hard to pin down in target cells. The final being that DBS creates artefacts through electrical stimulation that clouds target cell responses in neural circuits1. Parkinson s Disease (PD) is characterized by a loss of dopamine in the striatum that results in both motor and affective pathologies. Specifically modulated are the direct and indirect pathways in the basal ganglia. The indirect pathway is studied in this paper and comprises the global pallidus interna and its afferent synapses on the subthalamic nucleus.2 To address this aspect of PD and the aforementioned DBS issues the authors decided to make use of channel rhodopsins, halorhodopsins, optrodes and optical stimulation. To induce the PD symptoms, rodents were injected with 6 hydroxydopamine (6 OHDA) to induce hemi parkinsonian symptoms on the contralateral side and in vivo delivery of ChR2 and NpHR was done via lentiviruses. Teeth are among the most distinctive (and long lasting) features of mammal species. Humans, like other mammals, are diphyodont, meaning that they develop two sets of teeth. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Depending on the extent of tooth destruction, various treatments can be used to restore teeth to proper form, function, and aesthetics, but there is no known method to regenerate large amounts of tooth structure. Instead, dental health organizations advocate preventive and prophylactic measures, such as regular oral hygiene and dietary modifications, to avoid dental caries. Causes There are four main criteria required for caries formation: a tooth surface (enamel or dentin); caries causing bacteria; fermentable carbohydrates (such as sucrose); and time. The caries process does not have an inevitable outcome, and different individuals will be susceptible to different degrees depending on the shape of their teeth, oral hygiene habits, and the buffering capacity of their saliva. Dental caries can occur on any surface of a tooth that is exposed to the oral cavity, but not the structures that are retained within the bone. All caries occurs from acid demineralization that exceeds saliva and fluoride remineralization, and almost all acid demineralization occurs where food (containing carbohydrate like sugar) is left on teeth. Though most trapped food is left between teeth, over 80% of cavities occur inside pits and fissures on chewing surfaces where brushing, fluoride, and saliva cannot reach to remineralize the tooth as they do on easy to reach surfaces that develop few cavities. Whether they were the victims or the bullies everyone has at one point experienced some form of inconsiderate judgement in their lives. It is no surprise that people have been unfairly judged for hundreds of years now. There has been many cases of racism all over the world. From slavery and the racial segregation of African Americans in the U.S, to the Holocaust and persecution of jews in WWII, people all over the world have been discriminated for their appearance. Historically the practice of unfair prejudice has been around for centuries. Although discrimination has significantly decreased over time it is still something we see in today s society and many people have to deal with the disadvantages it brings. Currently, the U.S is the most discriminative nation towards other cultural minorities and it has even come to a point where policemen in the U.S have been questioned for their actions. This is shown in many cases when people of color have been killed without evidence of hostile behavior towards the authorities and this has stirred up a lot of controversy over the past few years. The ideal place in which students would be able to find adequate time, opportunity and guidance are in the high schools themselves. Communication skills are essential in many aspects of life because it may be the determining factor in a job interview or just in casual conversation with a friend. If students are not taught social skills they often become self conscious and shy in social contacts (Hartmann, 1982, p.22). If play skills are not developed early then they will are usually not developed at all. This could be a factor which effects social behavior of teenagers and could contribute to delinquency, social and family problems. Students with these problems usually lack social skills which serve as being part of group contacts. Symptoms of this may be visible nervousness and general lack of confidence during conversations with others. More importantly, physical activity allows students the opportunity to relieve stress and enjoy themselves. Physical education provides a combination of physical, intellectual and social challenges that other subjects such as physics may not provide. Although the physical aspect is the most dominant, it is not necessarily the most important. The topic that has been at the forefront of debate deals with obscene materials. This is a heated topic because the definition of obscenity is very vague and subject to interpretation. What is considered to be obscene can be viewed very differently depending on ones personal morals, beliefs, and values. For example, a parent who is highly religious and living in the United States may view nudity on cable television as obscene and pornographic for their child to view, while a person with the same religious beliefs living in Europe or another part of the world may just view this as art or entertainment. This is due to the difference in societal views on obscenity. To get to the root of what is considered obscene, a test for judging obscene material was set in the case of Miller v. California. Although extinction and decline in population is a natural occurrence, the rate of population decline and extinction has been highly escalated because of human acts such as deforestation and overhunting. Researchers and scientists have tried to combat these issues and prevent extinctionthrough captive breeding programs and conservation education, but are criticised for housing animals in zoos or even theme parks. These obstacles have made it more difficult to effectively protect endangered animals and educate about the importance of conservation. Dedicated researchers and zoologists also struggle when studying the behavior and ecology of these animals because of this criticism. Zoos have not always been classified as public institutes geared to entertain and educate in a family friendly way. The common zoothat society is familiarized with today first stemmed from the exotic animal collection of royal families which eventually led to both human entertainment through circuses and education through modern day animal research programs. Obviously both are very different, but animal research in captivity, such as zoos, is still criticized. Symphony Orchestra Review Essay On October 10, I attended the performances of the University Symphony Orchestra, with guest soloists Trio 180, comprised of Professors Miller on violin, Flyer on cello, and Leong on piano, along with having the pleasure of an intermissionary lecture about the possible survival of Beethoven and Schubert with the help of modern medicine led by Professor Blankenship from the School of Pharmacy. Before the first piece, Principal Violin Vogel led the tuning of the orchestra in the traditional B flat. Trio 180 then emerged onstage and were recognized as the soloists as Professor Leong led the tuning of the trio. The first piece of the evening was Beethoven s Triple Concerto Op. 56 with a mezzo piano chord progression of the basses and cellos, with violin and viola soon mirroring, leading to a unanimous motif which was replicated in distinct moments as the bass and treble strings branched off into their own movements. Throughout the piece, the strings in the orchestra were featured more than the wind instruments, as they were typically the support for the soloists. Trio 180 worked incredibly well off of each other, watching one another as they played together in order to experience the flow of the musicin a more unified way. When the wind instruments were featured, the balance, blend, and pitch were nearly seamless; for example, it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 37. The And The Industrial Man Since the founding of America, no singular method of governmental role has been adopted. The concept of governmental role in American society is a subjective point. While some believe in a strong government that controls and expands its role over many aspects of American society, others believe that limiting governmentpower is necessary to having a thriving society and economy. Clark Kerr wrote the document Industrialism and the Industrial Man which highlights and explains the perspective of having a centralized government in power. Contrastingly, Capitalism and Freedom, written by Milton Friedman is in support of a limited government and placing a check on concentrated power. Both documents reflect the two different styles of government and provide context to their functions and the application of their duties. In Industrialism and the Industrial Man, Clark Kerr depicts the concept of an industrial society characterized by a government that has a wide range of activities and functions it controls. In this industrial society, the government provides and controls technology, infrastructure, urban development, military, international relations, education, parks, healthcare, and many other services to society. The government also keeps order of the economy, controlling the labor and product markets. Even though this big government has many functions and controls a large sector of society, Kerr explains that the freedom and personal liberty of the people will not be placed in ... • 39. Infectious Bacterial Diarrhe Common Occurrence Among The... MICROBIOLOGY2 Colitis Introduction Infectious bacterial diarrhea is a common occurrence among the elderly people, children, and the immunocompromised individuals. One of the major reasons behind the infectious diarrhea is the inflammation of the colon. Colitis is the inflammation of the colon resulting to symptoms such as diarrhea, tenesmus, fever, and severe abdominal pain. The common pathologic organisms responsible for the infection include Camphylobacter, Shigella, Salmonella, Escherichia, and the Yersinia species (Papaconstantinou, Thomas, 2007). The initial infection of Camphylobacter, C, fetus, was discovered and described in 1947 after several cases appeared and it was isolated from blood (Loss, Mangla, Pereira, 1980). Later, the discovery of new identification techniques led to the isolation of other strains of the species. Currently, the identification has developed, leading to isolation of bacteria such as Camphylobacter and E. coli in culture techniques and other isolation techniques. Treatment of this disease uses multidisciplinary approach of both antibiotics and supportive therapy. Epidemiology The epidemiology of the disease depends on the causative agent. E. coli virulence requires 10 to 100 organisms to cause a disease. An estimate of 70,000 people contract E. coli and approximately 60 deaths occur from this bacteria (Papaconstantinou, Thomas, 2007). Therefore, their literary works usually describe the condition of their period directly or indirectly. The two authors, Roberts Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, also expose the culture and the condition of the society of the Victorian era through their works.
