French And Indian War, Tea Act, And The Boston Tea Party
Did you know the word independence never appears in the Declaration of Independence, rather, it s
titled The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America. ? The American
Revolution ended two centuries of British rule for most of the North American colonies and created
the modern United Statesof America. Many key events including the French and Indian War, the Tea
Act, and the Boston Tea Party all contributed to the independence of America.
To start off, The French and Indian War, also known as the Seven Years War, was a key event in the
American Revolution. The French and Indian War was a conflict between Great Britain and
France. The French and Indian War began in 1754 and ended with the Treaty of Paris in 1763. The
results of the war ended French political and cultural influence in North America. England gained a
large amount of land and strongly grasped its hold on the continent. On the other hand, the war
created tension between the English and the Native Americans. This war created an unpleasant
relationship between England and its colonies. For example, the amount of taxes put into the
colonists hands from war debt. Therefore, the French and Indian War was beneficial to the
American Revolution. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This act would help to launch a revolutionary movement in Boston. The Tea Act was designed to
support the British East India Company, which was financially collapsing. It was being weighed
down by eighteen million pounds of unsold tea. The tax on tea still remained, but the company
would actually be able to sell its tea for a price that was lower than before. Also, the colonists had
to buy the tea from the British, and nowhere else. The act was putting a tax on tea sold by
companies other than the East India Company. The Boston Tea Party was a result of this act. The

Rigid Boundaries In A Family
Family boundaries are described as limits that separate one member of a family from another.
Boundaries in a family define who is responsible for what, how parents and children interact, and
how the family relates with the outside world. Not all boundaries are the same or equal in the
domain of family functioning. Three types of common boundaries in a familyare described as clear
boundaries, rigid boundaries, and diffuse boundaries. (Hoemeyer, 2011)
Clear boundaries in a highly functional family define the authority of the parents while allowing
the children room to grow as needed for their age, For an example a nightly bed time is set for a
child in order to set a structure in the child s life that enables the child to feel secure and get the
rest that is required each night. In a situation that where bedtime may have to be changed then the
child is given the reason of why the exception is being made. They child would then return to the
normal bedtime when the situation was normal again (Hoemeyer, 2011). ... Show more content on

Families that have rigid boundaries are isolated from one another and communication between
them has broken down. In this type of family there is little respect for the individuality of people
in the family. The nightly bedtime in this type of family would have the child going to bed at a
certain time every night no matter what the situation was or what the child had to say about it.
This type of scenario does not allow for the individual to have any say so in the matter and it does
not allow room for any individual growth (Thumbs Osborn, 2013) (Hoemeyer,

Jefferson And Sally Hemings Relationship
The 200 TV movie Sally Hemings: An American Scandal tells the story of the scandalous
relationship between Thoma Jefferson and his teenage slave Sally Hemings. Their relationship
began unexpectedly in Paris and grew quickly. Sally became accustomed to the life in Paris
where she was free. Jefferson treated her to many fine things and an education. Soon they had to
return to America. Their relationship becomes harder to maintain there and scandal begins to
erupt. The storyline of this movie focuses on Jefferson and Sally s relationship. Sally is sent to
accompany Jefferson s daughter Polly on her travels to Paris. In the movie Sally and Polly look to
be around the same age. IN real life, Polly was actually eight years old and Sally was 14 years old
(History). Once... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s easy for Jefferson to so Sally so much affection at this time because no one else is around.
Once they return to Monticello this changes. In the movie, their sexual relationship began in
Paris and Sally returns to Monticello pregnant. To some historians though it is unclear if their
sexual relationship began in Paris or After they arrived back home (Wikipedia). When Sally
gives birth to her child Jefferson does not claim it as his. All of the slaves on the farm knows he
is the father and it seems as though Martha does too, but doesn t accept it. Sally continues her
affair with Jefferson still working as his slave. She becomes pregnant again, but the child dies a
year later. Again Jefferson does not claim this child and it is even buried in the slave cemetery.
The reason Jefferson is so unwilling to claim these children is that not only is Sally a slave, but
it goes against his public statements. In lecture 9 we learned that Jefferson publicly stated he didn
t condone intermixing races, so if he did claim the children it would go against what people
believed about him. Jefferson was a very selfish man and cared a lot about his political career. I

The Mortality Rate Of Ovarian Cancer
Ovaries are a pair of female sex organs that store and release eggs in the process of the
reproductive system. Ovarian cancer is located in the ovaries where uncontrollable multiplication
of cancer cells occur (Garnick, 2014). Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of death in
women in the United States (Su, 2013). There are over 200,000 new cases each year worldwide
and it is common in women over the age of 60 (Brain, 2014). The high mortality rate of ovarian
canceris caused by the lack of a screening techniques to detect it early on (Visintin et al, 2008).
Epithelial ovarian cancer, borderline ovarian tumors, germ cell ovarian cancer, and stromal ovarian
cancer are four types of ovarian cancer. There are various stages to ovarian... Show more content on

Stromal ovarian cancer consist of 5 to 8 percent of ovarian cancer cases. This type of ovarian
cancer arise from supporting tissues within the ovary itself (Green, 2013).
During the early stages, symptoms are hard to determine because they can be categorized as
symptoms that are common among women for other reasons besides ovarian cancer. The early
stages have the following symptoms: bloating, feeling the need to urinate urgently, trouble eating,
feeling full quickly, fatigue, abdominal pain, upset stomach, back pain, pain during sex,
constipation, heartburn, or menstrual changes (Society of Gynecologic Oncology, 2013). Up to 95%
of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer before it has spread beyond the ovaries will survive
longer than 5 years (Simon, 2012). Transvaginal ultrasound have been found to be not helpful
when trying to identify early stage ovarian cancer in women with a high risk of being diagnosed
with ovarian cancer (Simon, 2012).
Stage I involves cancer cells that are found on the surface of or in fluid collected from the
abdomen in one or both ovaries (AJCC Cancer Staging Manual, 2012). The 5 year survival chance
for stage I is 89 percent. Stage IA has cancer cells in only one ovary, the outer capsule has not yet
ruptured, and there is no tumor on the surface of the ovary (AJCC Cancer Staging Manual, 2012).
The 5 year survival rate is 94 percent.

The Fall of Phaeton
The Catholic Baroque period of the 17th century set forth an artistic style that used a much more
dramatic use of color. Furthermore, contrasts between light and dark became more apparent as
darks became darker, and brights became brighter. Images often depicted grandiose visions,
martyrdom, intense psychological moments, intense light, ecstasies and conversions. Paintings
became more direct and dramatic as well, attempting to draw the viewer into the scene to
participate. Depictions during this era also felt emotionally straining, on top of feeling physically
and psychologically real. The era was dominated by several figures; for example, Giovanni Lorenzo
Bernini, Caravaggio and Rembrandt, but the metaphorical crown of the Catholic Baroqueera goes to
Peter Paul Rubens.
Peter Paul Rubens was and is one of the most celebrated artists in Europe; both throughout the
course of his lifetime, as well as throughout the entire Catholic Baroque era. His works are currently
on display in some of the most prominent museums around the world; including the Musee du
Louvre in Paris, The Metropolitan Museum in New York City, The Getty Museum in Los Angeles
and many more. Peter Paul Rubens is accredited as the master of the Baroque period by many, and
with his art he unknowingly created a set of rules that almost all Catholic Baroque art follows.
One of Peter Paul Rubens most distinguished and discussed works is The Fall of Phaeton, an oil
painting on canvas. Created between 1604 and

Bullying
In life there is no perfect picture for a non violent world, but then we turn to school, work forces
and sadly enough, we as a community reach the point of having to find ways to prevent bullying.
Bullying as we see is as a whole can create a foundation that certain people don t want to
particularly be involved with, such as school environments, workforces or even a neighborhood.
This is a worldwide incident that is going on and people are getting hurt emotionally, physically and
even spiritually as well through this bullying. If you have been worrying about this or concerning
yourself with your own kids being bullied there are ways and solutions that can help prevent and
possibly create boundaries from bullies. Bullies are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This article has the opinion that Bullying can threaten students physical and emotional safety at
school can negatively impact their ability to learn (stopbullying.gov). We first see as stated in this
article Prevention at School that steps such as assess bullying in your school is a major key part.
That means that in order to make sure that you are taking the right steps you must conduct
assessments, interview certain kids you see a problem with and even have parents intervene with
the situation.
Going off this article the next step that they suggest is engaging the parents and youth. This is
such a key part of bullying not only do you want to see why the kid is bullying, but also get a
feel for how he is getting raised by his elders. You not only see it through actions you can also see
bullying through communication as well. Social media plays a huge part in bullying it can happen
anywhere at anytime with a person writing, tagging or tweeting a picture and from there you have
no control. Throughout reading this deeply thought out article they discuss other key two points
that is building a safe environment and creating rules. Waking up every morning as a kid and about
to go to school feeling safe is a big part of making sure that the school they attend is safe and most
importantly is strict when it comes to policies and rules. Without having any kind of instruction and
or rule bullying throughout schools will continue happening.

Essay about Tools of the Craft
Tools of the Craft So you have decided you want to write. Perhaps you may feel you need to write.
Sometimes this urge inside you is so sweet and urgent that you find yourself imagining the smooth
feel of the keyboard beneath your fingertips. You can hear the tap tap of the keys as your fingers
fly over them, forming words, sentences, paragraphsand pages of images that will flow from your
mind to another s in a bizarre and wondrous kind of telepathy. This desire may come to you as you
are studying, attending classes, or working, making you yearn for the time when the tedious details
of life might be abated, if only for a moment, so that you can finally work on your story.

It is highly recommended that this book be read first whether the writer is confident about their
ability to follow the rules of grammar or not.
After you have read enough of Strunk White to feel somewhat confident (or even frustrated) by
the rules that you already knew or forgot, examine Style by Joseph M. Williams. Mr. Williams is
a professor of English and Linguistics at the University of Chicago. You may have already
encountered another book published by the University on the subject. Fear not; Williams book is
not an immense conundrum of rules in the same vein as The Chicago Manual of Style. I prefer to
think of it as a response to Strunk White; Williams will address many of the same rules of writing
from a refreshingly unique viewpoint. Some readers may find his work incredibly dull and prefer
The Elements of Style for its short and simple guidelines. Or you may find yourself enjoying a
newfound sense of freedom from the rather liberal suggestion of Williams that some rules are, in
fact, meant to be broken. If you are of an analytical or logical frame of mind you may enjoy the
many diagrams and trees he created as examples of his statements. If you do not fit into this group,
do not let these examples get in the way of the underlying message. Writing, Williams appears to
suggest, is not about rules and

Salads Strengths And Weaknesses
Competitor s SWOT
Go! Salads
Strengths
Their strength is at their brand image which is healthy living. Also, they capitalized on serving
healthy foods that taste great. Their varieties of salad (such as Bayani Salad, Sweet Caroline, Wild
Wild West, and Sgt. Steak Salad) make them original since the kind of toppings in their saladswere
not seen in salads before. Also, their desserts are sugar free which is consistent with their image of
healthy living. Their price seems to be reasonable for their meals.
Weaknesses
Their weakness is they are not that well known except only to those who live a healthy lifestyle.
When the name Go! Salads is mentioned, it may not ring a bell to consumers.

Strengths
Their strength is at their burgers, although their Caesar salad tastes great because of their lettuce and
dressing. Their Caesar salad adds variety to their burgers which they are famous for. Speaking of
their burgers, the taste of the beef makes it among the leaders in burgers.
Weaknesses
However, Wendy s is not famous for their salads compared from 2 decades ago when they had a
salad bar in their stores. Also, the price of their products is expensive which is why more people
prefer their rivals in the fast food sector.
Opportunities
The opportunities of Wendy s will pertain to their branch in Dapitan St. near UST. Their branch in
Dapitan has been there for a long time judging on the interior. Since there are students, professors,
and doctors who frequent Dapitan, Wendy s wanted to bring its food there and provide the people
who frequent Dapitan food that will energize them and help them get through the grind of studying

Threats
However, the presence of more affordable food joints in Dapitan and nearby side streets is a reason

Differences Between Weak Impermissibility And The...
In the aforementioned studies, an asymmetry is found between the footbridge and the bystander
cases which suggests that there is an independent reason to remove any asymmetry in the
personal bystander and footbridge cases. The results showed that participants were aware of the
difference between weak impermissibility and all in impermissibility. In the first experiment,
about 70% stated that is was not acceptable to violate a moral rule and all things considered both
in the personal footbridge case. We can see a recognisable distinction in personal and moral
cases, but this was not addressed in these experiments. In addition, a philosophical understanding
tells us that when a rule is broken, it is wrong to go ahead with that action (e.g. Fried, 1978). It is
clear then from both experiments that a difference between weak and all in permissibility is not
evident (Nichols Mallon, 2005). The results show that some people think that it is acceptable to
breach a moral rule, even one that allows killing innocent people. This reinforces the idea that
people are not absolute deontologists, and this is similar to the issues observed in the catastrophe
case. What is notable about the results is that people appreciate the recognisable difference between
weak and all in impermissibility. Moreover, the results show an independent mechanism for two
underlying ideas relating to moral judgement. One shows that people are able to minimise bad
outcomes and the other shows people have a set

The Chalumeau and the Clarinet Essay
This paper will explore the early instrument known as the chalumeau and the various types of
instruments that have evolved from it. The chalumeau group of instruments were folk instruments
that were played with a single reed and the chalumeau itself is most commonly known as the
predecessor to the modern day clarinet. The instrument has only eight tone holes on its cylindrical
bore. There are many other single reed instruments that resemble the chalumeau and were in
existence during the same time period. I will be discussing the history of the chalumeau and its
repertoire, similar instruments of the time, and the evolution from the chalumeau to the modern
day clarinet. My sources will include scholarly articles from online databases, such... Show more

The most common of these was the soprano chalumeau, but alto, tenor, and bass versions of the
instrument existed as well (Lawson). There is also evidence that there was no set key for these
instruments to be pitched in. There are a few examples of surviving chalumeau to back up these
claims. The first one, created by a many by the name of Liebav, is pitched in C and is 33
centimeters in length. A few more exist made by Denner and Klenig are all pitched in F and are
around 50 centimeters long (Lawson). While we have surviving examples of soprano, alto, and
tenor chalumeau, there are no remaining bass chalumeau for us to examine. The closest we are able
to come to the bass chalumeau are three remaining instruments close to the bass clarinet in size, but
they more resemble the bassoon due to their angled finger holes (Lawson).
The word chalumeau itself comes to us from both Greek and Latin roots. The Greek word
calamaulos means a pipe of reed and the Latin word calamellus translates to little reed (Hunt). Both
words refer to the chalumeau s use of a single reed. Because of its resemblance to many other
baroque instruments, the term chalumeau is also used to describe many different wind instruments
in the shape of a pipe, most often resembling the recorder, that are played through the use of a
single or double reed (Albert 10). For instance, the mock trumpet from seventeenth century England
is classified as a chalumeau

Christian Demonic Exorcism in the United States
The act of possession was a considered a source of illness that required a ritual type of healing to
remove the demons or spirits taking control of that its host. Exorcism was used as this type of
healing that occurred all around the world, including the United States. Christianity believed that
there were demons that harassed, tormented and possessed humans which came from the New
Testament. We learned that Satan was in charge of these acts in which being possessed gave new
skills and strength because of the demon inside of them. From the New Testament, Jesus was able
to perform exorcisms simply by demanding these demons to leave its host and soon after his
disciples used this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were other ways exorcism became popularized like the movie, The Exorcist, a 1973 film
directed by William Friendkin, it is about a girl who starts acting odd and her mother seeks
medical help which did nothing until a local priest advises her to get a specialist to perform an
exorcism. This movie had to be the scariest of the time and it traumatized many viewers due to
its graphical images and also knowing that it was loosely based on actual events. This movie
was inspired by the book based on true events from the exorcism of a demon on a 14 year old
boy that lived in Mount Rainier, Maryland. The author read news concerning the boy and that
medical attention did not relieve any symptoms such as violent episodes and outbursts of foul
language. He claimed that the boy spoke a different language and was moving across the room
on his bed while asleep. This type of behavior could have been mental illness, or the case of
actual demons possessing the body of the child. Cases like these attract attention throughout the
cities and some are real and others are just fabricated. During these rituals, the greatest danger to
the exorcist is becoming possessed by the demon or Devil himself. This is why most priests need
to be free of sin so the evils spirits cannot take advantage of this and use it as punishment against
them otherwise the demon will easily take over. Malachi Martin claimed in his book, Hostage to
the Devil (1976) that the successes from doing

The Cultural History Behind Racial Science
Race is a fictional notion fashioned by debunked scientists in order to justify their cruelties and
enhance their perceived superiority. Just as religion was once used to justify the horrors of the
Crusades (Lindqvist, pg. 161), science would be the means to pardon the brutalities of imperialism,
manifest destiny, and the white man s burden. Constrained by binary thinking, Western thought
pinned the illusory civilized against the primitive using metaphors attached to scientific reasoning
(Stepan, pg. 362). Because of Africans supposed likeness to apes, they were not fully human; skull
measurements, despite being inaccurate, were used to rank the races of Mongoloid, Negro, and
Caucasian (Gould, pg. 103). Through some omissions and statistical finagling, Caucasians wound
up with the highest cranial capacities. Consequently, small and ape like became synonyms for
inferior and stupid. In this paper, I will draw upon our class readings to explicate the cultural
history behind racial science, and how science artificially constructed raceby ignoring outliers and
probing for racial differences.
Science was born deeply intertwined within the Western cultural realm. It developed snuggly with
ideas of European grandeur through the grace and favor of Almighty God (Lindqvist, pg.11). The
cultural conditioning these [scientists] had absorbed early in their careers influenced more than
their writing: it skewed their research (Freedman). Coinciding with scientific inquiries of

What Are The 3 Most Important Reasons For Study Principles...
What are the 3 most important reasons to study principles of persuasion?
The first reason it is important to study persuasion is to adapt to the technological age. In this age
of technology as stated in Persuasion in Today s World the author examines persuasion and why it
is important that we train ourselves to become responsible receivers of persuasion. (Larson, pg. 5)
He does this by first explaining that the average American is exposed to over 5000 persuasive
messages a day. It is important to train ourselves to be responsible receivers because persuasive
messages have become a grammar of everyday life. These messages are received through a
lexicon of different mediums from television to visual art, and also conversations with children.
For example: I have a lot of nieces and a nephew who watch both Disney and nick Jr. both
stations persuade parents with the idea of learning and they send messages of teaching leading
the parents to believe it is ok for the children to watch. This creates tiny consumers that then ask
their parents to buy them things associated with the shows and characters they watch in the
programs. While a lot of these persuasive messages feed into the ideologies taught to us by other
messages we learn from our parents or society. Larson went on to say: Persuasion is the result of
combined efforts of source and receiver. Even in cases of terrorism and hostage taking, some
hostages begin to identify with their captors. (Larson, Pg.11) While that last

Crisis Management Issues Of Toyota
As we all know Toyota is one of the top automotive companies. This company was started in 1933
and now they are producing over 4 million automotive per year. Most importantly now they have
moved to the machinery, electronics, finance and other industries.
First month of 2010, Toyota was started to recall millions of cars after issues with braking, floor
mats and acceleration pedals in its vehicles. The recall was activated by the report of a burning
crash in California, where the accelerator of a Lexus sedan got trapped, resulting in the driver s
death.
That situation even led Toyota to stop sales and production of eight of its most popular models
like Toyota Camry and Toyota Corolla. In January 2010, Toyota had proclaimed recalls of almost
5.2 million vehicles for the pedal entrapment/floor mat problem, and an extra 2.3 million vehicles
for the accelerator pedal problem. Around 1.7 million vehicles are affected both. World famous
Lexus and Pontiac models were also faced to these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, Toyota faces severe challenges in repairing its seriously injured image, let alone
capitalizing on the chances embedded in the crisis. The company has made some important efforts,
including signaling a recommitment to its main values, appointing a advisory board of outsiders to
find the quality issues, and quickly moving to address consumer concerns. Toyota went into crisis
management mode and proclaimed a repair for the accelerator issue. The company has also
started an advertising campaign to address the crisis in a directly by highlighting the values of
quality and consumer security. Social media has been a big part of Toyota s path to rescue and
using online potential clients has helped Toyota restore its good name. As part of its problem
management process, Toyota placed advertisements in print and television media, involved
executives and used social media platforms to address its

Cilician Armenia Influence
Cilician Armenian society was full of culture, had a thriving economy, and an established religion.
It had a mixed population, consisting of Armenians, Greeks, Muslims, Jews, and several Europeans.
It had a multi ethnic demographic, with many commercial and political links to Europe, specifically
France. This brought important and new influences to the Armenian culture. The nobles of Cicilian
Armenia embraced many features of Western European life, such as the fashion and the use of
French Christian names. Because of the close relationship with France, the structure of Cicilian
society was similar to Western feudalism instead of the traditional nakharar system of Armenia. For

This cultural influence was a two way street. Cilician Armenians impacted the Crusaders returning
to the West, especially with their architectural traditions. Armenian masons taught Europeans the
foundations of church architecture and Armenian castle design. During the Cilician period,
specifically the thirteenth, important models of Armenian art were produced. Cilician Armenia
prospered due to its strategic position on the eastern shores of the Mediterranean. It was located at
the juncture of many different trade routes, which linked the Persian Gulf and Central Asia to the
Mediterranean. This made the kingdom important in spice trade. Other important capitals were
timber, grain, wine, silk, and raisins, which were all exported from the country. During the reign of
King Levon, Cilician Armenia s economy flourished and became strongly cohesive with Western
Europe. King Levon was able to secure agreements with various parts of Italy, such as, Pisa and
Venice, as well as the French and the Catalans, who were located in northern Spain. These areas
granted the Armenians certain privileges, like tax exemptions in return for their business.
Important Europeans merchant communities and colonies came into existence. These places set up
their own churches, courts of law, and trading houses. French became the secondary language for
the Cilician nobles, but the secondary language for Cilician commerce became Italian, because of

Poetic Devices In Kubla Khan
Introduction: S.T Coleridge s Kubla Khan is a visionary poem of 54 lines, about the magical,
mystical place, Xanadu where the heavenly paradise is overshadowed by a hint of evil. The poem
has three types of poetic elements which will be discussed along with relevant examples. First, the

Rural Food Security And Nutrition
The potential of crossbreeding indigenous chickens to improve rural food security and nutrition in
southern Africa a review
Abstract
The need to increase poultry production in southern Africa to meet the increasing protein
requirement of the growing population is becoming a great concern. The quality of poultry meat and
eggs produced in terms of taste, texture, flavour and leanness are of importance to consumers.
Crossbreeding indigenous with exotic strains of chickens is one of the main factors that can
improve food and nutrition security in southern Africa. In this paper, ways in which the quality and
quantity of poultry meat and eggs can be improved for sustainable food and nutrition security in
southern Africa, with emphasis on crossbreeding as a prospective food security (protein) stability
technique are discussed. This paper is based on critical analysis of the literature and discusses and
evaluates various crossbreeding methods of chickens that have been carried out in African
countries. Comparative studies on the implementation, failures and successes of crossbreeding of
chickens in African countries, such as Egypt, Botswana, Malawi and South Africa among others are
reviewed. Crossbreeding, combined with selection, information dissemination, improved
management and technology, is recommended for the geometric increase in poultry meat and egg
production in southern Africa to improve food and nutrition security.

Ridicule And Terrorism
In J. Michael Waller s, Ridicule: An Instrument in the War on Terrorism, the main idea presented
is that ridicule should be used as a war strategy against terrorism. Ridicule can be used in several
instances. These instances are as follows, ridicule raises morale at home, ridicule strips the
enemy/adversary of his mystique and prestige, ridicule erodes the enemy s claim to justice,
ridicule eliminates the enemy s image of invincibility, and directed properly at an enemy, ridicule
can be a fate worse than death. Ridicule and humor play an important part in the way the
government is run. Waller quotes John Cleese, If I can get you to laugh with me, you like me
better, which makes you more open to my ideas. The more comfortable an individual or politician
feels around the person trying to influence them, the more likely it will be that they will side with
their opinion. The reason why ridicule is so effective is that it leverages the emotions and implies
the complicated and takes on the powerful, in politics, business, law, entertainment, literature,
culture, sports, and romance. The instances aforementioned are thoroughly explained by Waller by
using lengthy factual and historical examples. Ridicule can be used as both an offensive and a
defensive war strategy. Dictators, tyrants, and those who aspire to seize and keep power by
intimidation and force can tolerate no public ridicule. In order to maintain their intimidating
appearance, leaders suppress ridicule and

I find this video interesting is, because one day I plan to be an administrator at an assisted living.

feel if a lot of people are aware of this issue it will make a difference for both the residents and the

the facility, so families that have their loved ones in the facility know some signs to look for. If a

The Beginning Of Foreign Aid Essay
Introduction: 1.The beginning of Foreign Aid
All human beings regardless of their background require a set of resources to survive. These are
food, water, shelter and clothing in addition to this, healthcare, education and sanitation are also
essential for a person s wellbeing. In 1949 Truman s Inaugural Address we must embark on a bold
new program for making the benefits of our scientific advances and industrial progress available for
the improvement and growth of underdeveloped areas raised awareness of the fundamental belief
that countries that are far more developed should be assisting underdeveloped countries to improve
their living standards. Aid is the giving of money, goods and advice by one country to another. The
principle of giving and supporting others through foreign aid blossomed during the 1960 s,
technological advances provided opportunities for televised reporting in the United States of
inhumane situations in other underdeveloped countries. The idea of tackling poverty took hold and
the UN and Bretton Woods Institutions (originally formed for post war reconstruction) became
mechanisms for action on development. 2. Why should we help?
After a reading a considerable amount, poverty has consistently been a vocal point of discussion
when addressing critical humanitarian issues such as: famine, drought, crime, population
management and much more. Global organisations have attempted to provide accurate data of
distribution of wealth around the

Positive Aspects Of Being An American
Being an American means having the chance to voice your opinion. This can be either good or
bad for multiple reasons. A few positive reasons are that you may have a view that no one has
considered or you may have new ideas for laws and/or acts. A few negatives to everyone has a
say is that mainly elite upper class white males or people with massive amounts of funding are
elected to positions of power. In addition to the political system we have in place we have a great
economic system. In America we are free to buy and sell almost anything we would like to. The
one stipulation is that you cannot sell controlled substances and things of that nature. We are also
able to hold a vast assortment of jobs instead of having a few that the government allows us to
choose from. Finally, America has a great social system. In America you are allowed to practice
your religion without being arrested or killed. We also have a great assortment of different cultures

The Progress of a Motive in Brahms s Intermezzo op. 119, no. 3*
ABSTRACT: Brahms s Intermezzo op. 119, no. 3 is structured around a motive with two
components one melodic, one harmonic that operate sometimes separately and sometimes together.
The global harmonic trajectory of the piece is embodied in the combination of these two
components; local harmonic motion proceeds through an expanded LR cycle, with periodic short
cuts from one zone of the cycle to another. The A section unfolds a double tonic complex while

[7] The melodic cell and harmonic progression J and DOWN THIRD UP FIFTH sometimes
occur independently, but for the most part interact to create a larger unit. This larger unit, given
at the bottom of Example 2, is the motive of my title.(8) Again, the fact that the motive is
exclusively diatonic is significant, because it makes the chromatic pitch classes especially
salient. [8] The opening of the piece animates the motive by repeating and varying the duration
of J while arpeggiating the chords of DOWN THIRD UP FIFTH. Example 3 annotates the
melody of m. 1 through the downbeat of m. 3, which fuses together three Js.(9) By fusing
together three Js and altering the duration of the final pitch of each J (the durations are , , and ,
for the three occurrences, respectively), Brahms creates a symmetrical rhythmic structure.(10) The
dots below the staff indicate metric position: two dots indicate a strong beat, one dot a weak
beat.(11) The first J starts on a strong beat and concludes on a weak beat. The third J starts on a
weak beat and

Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress Essay
Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress
Andrew Marvell writes an elaborate poem that not only speaks to his coy mistress but also to the
reader. He suggests to his coy mistress that time is inevitably ticking and that he (the speaker)
wishes for her to act upon his wish and have a sexual relationship. Marvell simultaneously suggest
to the reader that he/she must act upon their desires, to hesitate no longer and Віseize the
moment?before time expires. Marvell uses a dramatic sense of imagery and exaggeration in order
to relay his message to the reader and to his coy mistress. The very first two lines of the poem
suggest that it would be fine for him and his mistress to have a slow and absorbing relationship but

The speaker in this poem seems frustrated; he delicately tries to inform his coy mistress that their
death is near, and they still have not had sexual intercourse. In lines 17 33 the poem seems to lose
the exaggeration sense and suddenly becomes serious. He (the speaker) reinsures his coy mistress
that Віyou deserve this state?(state of praise and high acknowledgment), ВіBut at my back I always
hear, TimeВ№s winged chariot hurrying near? Andrew Marvelluses and interesting image in line 22
(the line mentioned above) when suggesting to his coy mistress that death is near. He substitutes
the word Віdeath?for a more gentle, delicate term of ВіTimeВ№s winged chariot? This term was
probably used to prevent from frightening such a coy mistress. Marvell continues to involve the
readerВ№s imagination through unimaginable images. What do ВіDeserts of vast eternity?look
like? In fact, Marvell probably used such abstract images to suggest to his coy mistress that their
future is indeterminable, and ВіThy beauty shall no more be found? Perhaps, beauty is what the
coy mistress is so concerned with and the speaker in this case is trying to frighten her to have sex
with him quicker. He continues to use intense imagery when describing to his coy mistress that
even after death the Віworms shall try That long preserved virginity? The speaker now abstractly
describes that holding on to your virginity for

Authors: J. C. Santamarina, K. A. Klein, Y. H. Wang and E. Prencke
According to this paper, there are two methods used to determine the specific surface of clays:
1.Gas Adsorption (Dry conditions).
2.Absorption of molecules from solution onto a solid surface (Aqueous suspensions).
In addition to these, specific surface can also be calculated using known thermo dynamic properties,
microscopy, diffusiveness of X Rays, etc. But the paper focusses on the two methods mentioned
earlier.

One of which, is proving her newfound independence by participating in the village hunt of
Kilanga. Before her move to the Congo, an obedient Leah would have never done anything as
rebellious as this because Nathan would not have allowed it. This is evident in his failed
attempt to stop her, (). Leah is victorious, winning the hunt by the kill of a young male impala. A
man named Tata Ndu steals her meat and leaves nothing but a leg for Leah because he is
embarrassed at the fact a girl possesses enough skill to beat him. As a result, Leah feels
disrespected and discriminated against. Though she may not realize it at the time, Leah now
relates to the Congolese on a larger scale. Just as her meat was taken from her, the Price family
poses a threat to forcibly replace Congolese culture with their own Christian ideology. This is
similar to when the United States of America have the Congolese Prime Minister, Patrice

Puritan Citizen In The Scarlet Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Throughout the novel The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne develops compelling characters that
are starkly different from the normal Puritan citizen. The novel mainly focuses on Hester, a Puritan

met earlier with a better love than mine, this evil had not been. I pity thee, for the good that has
been wasted in thy nature! (Hawthorne 157). Chillingworth admires Hester for her great qualities.
He says that she could have met a better man and lived a better life if this sin and evil had not
taken place and can see that her good qualities were wasted when she married him. As a result,
Chillingworth empathizes with her because the attributes he loved about her have transformed due
to her punishment physically and mentally. Chillingworth still loves and admires Hester s good
qualities, but understands why she fell in love with another

Sociological Perspectives and Theories Essay
Sociological Perspectives and Theories
Sociologists try to explain how society orders itself but there are many different theories for this,
which often conflict with one another. Some of these classic theories include Marxism,
Functionalism, and Interactionism. There are also more modern or contemporary theories such as
Feminism. Each sociological perspective has different beliefs.
Marxists are concerned with the distribution of economic power and wealth. They believe that
society is in conflict between two classes. Those classes are the Bourgeoisie; who own the means
of production, i.e. land and the Proletariat; who sell labour to these owners for wages. The
Proletariat are being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
College help teach people so they can gain desired qualifications which will allow them to go out
and work in society. Without people being taught professions society would break down because
there would be nobody to do certain jobs.
Another classic view is Interactionism. We can liken Interactionism to a play; everyone must play
their respective roles in order to create a successful performance in society everyone must do their
jobs in order to create a successful society. This approach is much like the functionalism viewpoint.
It argues that action is meaningful to those involved and that they interpret the meaning. They
also argue that how others see us affects the way we act and how we see ourselves because our
actions are based on self concept. This is otherwise known as The Looking Glass Self a phrase that
was coined by Charles Cooley (1864 1929) and his theory backs up the ideas of Interactionism.
In a very large and interesting class of cases the social reference takes the form of a somewhat
definite imagination of how one s self that is any idea he appropriates appears in a particular
mind, and the kind of self feeling one has is determined by the attitude toward this attributed to that
other mind. A social self of this sort might be called the reflected or looking glass self:

Protests In The Witch Hunt
Witch Hunt
A present day crucible in today s world that has been occurring more and more is kneeling to the
national anthem and how people that kneel don t like our country, are only focused on helping
one group/race of people, and people are being kicked off teams because of them making
protests. The Anthem protests started last year in August when Colin Kaepernick sat on the bench
at an NFL game during the National Anthem. After the game reporters asked him why he sat and
he said, I am not going to stand up and show pride in a flag for a country that opposes black people
and people of color (Wyche ). Since this first incident it s spread across all of the NFL, high school
sports, NHL, women s professional soccer, and even in the MLB. This protest has even been caught
in the eyes of the president and there is no sign of this protest slowing down. A big problem
protesters like Colin Kaepernick and others are facing is that since they don t participate in the
National Anthem people think that they don t like our country and are unpatriotic. For example
Donald Trump and his aides took the situation into their own hands when calling out the protesters
by saying, protests are unpatriotic and disrespectful to the flag and those who have fought to protect
the United States (Tatum). After these comments players fire back by saying they re exercising free
speech by not participating in the National Anthem while standing with their hands over their
hearts. Protesting is a

Hermine Santrouschitz Essay
Hermine Santrouschitz was born on February 15, 1909 in Vienna, Austria. She suffered from lack
of nutrition at a young age during World War I and was sent away to Amsterdam, Holland. She
was taken in by the Nieuwenhuises, and they nursed her back to health. By the time she was
healthy again, she did not wish to return to Vienna to be reunited with her blood relatives, so she
lived on with her adoptive family. However, she remained an Austrian citizen.
Later in life, she became independent and found work at Travies Company, which specialized in
products for the homemakers. There she learned that her boss, Mr. Otto Frank, had moved to
Holland from Germany because he was a Jew and had to escape from the Nazis. Meip [Hermine]

Unfortunately, two years after the Franks had gone into hiding, they were discovered by the
Nazis and were taken to a concentration camp. The people who hid the Frank family also went
into the concentration camp. The Gies, however, were spared. The fact that she was born in
Vienna was an advantage. Miep lived in fear that the others would die in the camps and never

One day, while Miep was cooking dinner, Henk came home and told her, It s over! Miep and Henk
later found out that Mr. Otto Frank was the only person who survived the concentration camp. Miep
returned Anne s diary to him, and The Diary of Anne Frankwas published. It took Miep a long time
to gather the courage to read the book and when she finally did, she was happy she had. Five years

Amelia s Body Vs Brokeback Mountain
Brokeback Mountain and Amelia s body illustrate the vast differences of men and women in the
West. One, about privacy and hidden secrets, and the other where a whole town knows every detail
of this woman s life. Both show the difference each gender has in the West and how their
circumstances and gender roles affected them.
Brokeback Mountain is a consensual love story between two men who live married lives and even
have children. A major difference between this and Amelia s Body is the consensual part. These
men are free to do with their love life what they please, continuing their affair whilst married even
though their spouses appear the have knowledge of what the men do on their fishing trips. The men
are free to go where they want,

ACTIVITY 1 The Resting Membrane Potential 1.Explain why increasing extracellular K+
reduces the net diffusion of K+ out of the neuron through the K+ leak channels. ___The
concentration of extracellular K+ ions would be high and this would prevent more K+ ions
from diffusing out of the cell. 2.Explain why increasing extracellular K+ causes the membrane
potential to change to a less negative value. How well did the results compare with your
prediction? ___ My prediction was that the membrane potential will not change and that was
wrong because the resting membrane potential changed from 40V to 0V. This happened because
K+ diffuse out across the membrane and they leave a net negative charge behind. ___ ___
3.Explain why a change in extracellular Na+ did not alter the membrane potential in the resting
neuron. ___ _There are less leakage channels for Na+ compared to K+_that s why it didn t alter
the membrane potential in the resting neuron._ 4.Discuss the relative permeability of the
membrane to Na+ and K+ in a resting neuron. ___ _ The resting neuron is 4 to 5 times more
permeable to K+ then to Na+ because of the leakage channels._ ___ 5.Discuss how a change in
Na+ or K+ conductance would affect the resting membrane potential. ___ _There would be a

Bonnethead Shark Structure
The bonnethead shark is a magnificent creature. It can reach speeds of 35 mph when trying to
catch its prey. The bonnethead shark is a carnivore. It will consume some of the fish that swim by
when it s hungry. The sharks habitat is in a wide range, and the structure and anatomy is unique.
The bonnethead sharkeats about its own weight in a day. The bonnethead shark feeds on crab,
shrimp, mollusks, and small fish. This shark eats meat, but also eats bivalves and cephalopods. The
bonnethead feeds mostly in the daytime. They swim slowly toward their prey. Then quickly attack
the prey and crush it with their teeth. In the summertime if you go to the reefs and seaweed you
might see a bonnethead shark.
The bonnethead shark is abundant in the nearshore Florida water by reefs. It s commonly seen over
shallow sand and mud flats. They move into deeper water during the colder months. Depths about
32 to 262 ft, and in the warmer months they can be found 10 to 25m underwater. The biogeographic

Self Destruction In The Kite Runner
Finally, each author was able to make the most out of the theme, self destruction, until the final
conclusion of it. Amir has lived a life of misery since he selfishly chose to abandon Hassan, yet
after so long Amir has finally made the selfless choice, for he is determined to save Sohrab
[Hassan s son], even if it means confronting Assef [the person who sexualy abused Hassan], and
by doing so finally felt healed. Healed at last , for his body was broken , but his soul is cleansed
(Hosseini 289). Hosseini brilliantly ended the theme in such a daring way. Bring Assef back was
something that readers did not anticipate would happen. He made the theme go in a full circle, from
Assef harming Hassan to Assef harming Amir. Similarly, Sophocles ends

Similarities And Differences Between Olfo And Orsino
Orsino and Olivia
Orsino and Olivia are worth discussing together, because they have similar personalities. Both claim
to be buffeted by strong emotions, but both ultimately seem to be self indulgent individuals who
enjoy melodrama and self involvement more than anything. When we first meet them, Orsino is
pining away for love of Olivia, while Olivia pines away for her dead brother. They show no interest
in relating to the outside world, preferring to lock themselves up with their sorrows and mope
around their homes.
Viola s arrival begins to break both characters out of their self involved shells, but neither
undergoes a clear cut change. Orsino relates to Viola in a way that he never has to Olivia,
diminishing his self involvement and making him more likable. Yet he persists in his belief that
he is in love with Olivia until the final scene, in spite of the fact that he never once speaks to her
during the course of the play. Olivia, meanwhile, sets aside her grief when Viola (disguised as
Cesario) comes to see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Love is generally represented as something sudden and irresistible, something that attacks its
victim from the outside in a fashion similar to a disease. Like a disease, love is extremely
difficult to get rid of or cure. People seem to suffer painfully from it or at least they claim to
suffer. Orsino describes it as an appetite that must be satisfied (I.i.1 3); Olivia calls love a plague
(I.v.265); Viola sighs that [m]y state is desperate for my master s love (II.ii.35). Because love
makes those who suffer from it desperate, it has the potential to result in violence, as in Act V,
scene i, when Orsino, thinking that Cesario is Olivia s lover, threatens to kill him. At this point,
the play is only a few delicate steps away from turning into a tragedy a testament to how violent
and terrible the power of love can

Similarities Between Reality And Fiction In The Truman Show
The film called The Truman Show starring Jim Carrey is about a young man named Truman
Burbank, and his life since the beginning which has been constantly surrounded by cameras for the
public to watch, without him ever knowing it. Everyday he lived his constant, perfect life,
following the same routine, surrounded by actors pretending to be citizens of the town of Seahaven
and his loved ones, while being broadcasted for the whole world to see without a single
interruption. But one day that had all changed. This film belongs to the metafictional genre and
views The Truman Showthrough Truman s eyes himself. The use of metafictional elements of
blurred lines between reality and fiction, different stories being created within the overall film
story and the revelation of the narrator becoming a character in the film The Truman Show teaches
viewers that the views that you might have are not always be the best for you or for someone else.
Truman Burbank has grown up surrounded by cameras and actors yet his reactions are very
real. This is why Christof, the creator, thinks the show is so compelling and why sometimes it is
hard to see the differences in the film between reality and fiction. Blurred lines between reality
and fiction is a very effective element of metafiction because it leaves the audience in a constant
state of confusion between what s real and what s not. This is very effective in The Truman Show
in the part when Sylvia decides to interrupt the show and tell Truman that his life is all a lie and
that he is being watched. This blurs the line between reality and fiction in Truman s life because it
leaves him confused and curious and questioning whether what she said was true or not. Since
Truman has been living his whole life thinking that he was simply living a normal life, in a normal
town, this comes as a shock to him and leaves him wondering what she meant. Once that event has
occurred, the creator, Christof was frustrated because he did not want Truman to find out the truth
of the fake reality that he had created for him because that would ruin the show. But in the end, once
Truman had finally found out the truth, he chose to leave Seahaven which made Christof mad. This
proves that although

  • 2. French And Indian War, Tea Act, And The Boston Tea Party Did you know the word independence never appears in the Declaration of Independence, rather, it s titled The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America. ? The American Revolution ended two centuries of British rule for most of the North American colonies and created the modern United Statesof America. Many key events including the French and Indian War, the Tea Act, and the Boston Tea Party all contributed to the independence of America. To start off, The French and Indian War, also known as the Seven Years War, was a key event in the American Revolution. The French and Indian War was a conflict between Great Britain and France. The French and Indian War began in 1754 and ended with the Treaty of Paris in 1763. The results of the war ended French political and cultural influence in North America. England gained a large amount of land and strongly grasped its hold on the continent. On the other hand, the war created tension between the English and the Native Americans. This war created an unpleasant relationship between England and its colonies. For example, the amount of taxes put into the colonists hands from war debt. Therefore, the French and Indian War was beneficial to the American Revolution. ... • 4. Rigid Boundaries In A Family Family boundaries are described as limits that separate one member of a family from another. Boundaries in a family define who is responsible for what, how parents and children interact, and how the family relates with the outside world. Not all boundaries are the same or equal in the domain of family functioning. Three types of common boundaries in a familyare described as clear boundaries, rigid boundaries, and diffuse boundaries. (Hoemeyer, 2011) Clear boundaries in a highly functional family define the authority of the parents while allowing the children room to grow as needed for their age, For an example a nightly bed time is set for a child in order to set a structure in the child s life that enables the child to feel secure and get the rest that is required each night. In a situation that where bedtime may have to be changed then the child is given the reason of why the exception is being made. In this type of family there is little respect for the individuality of people in the family. The nightly bedtime in this type of family would have the child going to bed at a certain time every night no matter what the situation was or what the child had to say about it. This type of scenario does not allow for the individual to have any say so in the matter and it does not allow room for any individual growth (Thumbs Osborn, 2013) (Hoemeyer, ... • 5. Jefferson And Sally Hemings Relationship The 200 TV movie Sally Hemings: An American Scandal tells the story of the scandalous relationship between Thoma Jefferson and his teenage slave Sally Hemings. Their relationship began unexpectedly in Paris and grew quickly. Sally became accustomed to the life in Paris where she was free. Jefferson treated her to many fine things and an education. Soon they had to return to America. Their relationship becomes harder to maintain there and scandal begins to erupt. The storyline of this movie focuses on Jefferson and Sally s relationship. Sally is sent to accompany Jefferson s daughter Polly on her travels to Paris. In the movie Sally and Polly look to be around the same age. It s easy for Jefferson to so Sally so much affection at this time because no one else is around. Once they return to Monticello this changes. In the movie, their sexual relationship began in Paris and Sally returns to Monticello pregnant. To some historians though it is unclear if their sexual relationship began in Paris or After they arrived back home (Wikipedia). When Sally gives birth to her child Jefferson does not claim it as his. All of the slaves on the farm knows he is the father and it seems as though Martha does too, but doesn t accept it. Sally continues her affair with Jefferson still working as his slave. She becomes pregnant again, but the child dies a year later. Again Jefferson does not claim this child and it is even buried in the slave cemetery. The reason Jefferson is so unwilling to claim these children is that not only is Sally a slave, but it goes against his public statements. In lecture 9 we learned that Jefferson publicly stated he didn t condone intermixing races, so if he did claim the children it would go against what people believed about him. Jefferson was a very selfish man and cared a lot about his political career. I don t think ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Fall of Phaeton The Catholic Baroque period of the 17th century set forth an artistic style that used a much more dramatic use of color. Furthermore, contrasts between light and dark became more apparent as darks became darker, and brights became brighter. Images often depicted grandiose visions, martyrdom, intense psychological moments, intense light, ecstasies and conversions. Paintings became more direct and dramatic as well, attempting to draw the viewer into the scene to participate. Depictions during this era also felt emotionally straining, on top of feeling physically and psychologically real. The era was dominated by several figures; for example, Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini, Caravaggio and Rembrandt, but the metaphorical crown of the Catholic Baroqueera goes to Peter Paul Rubens. Peter Paul Rubens was and is one of the most celebrated artists in Europe; both throughout the course of his lifetime, as well as throughout the entire Catholic Baroque era. His works are currently on display in some of the most prominent museums around the world; including the Musee du Louvre in Paris, The Metropolitan Museum in New York City, The Getty Museum in Los Angeles and many more. Peter Paul Rubens is accredited as the master of the Baroque period by many, and with his art he unknowingly created a set of rules that almost all Catholic Baroque art follows. It is highly recommended that this book be read first whether the writer is confident about their ability to follow the rules of grammar or not. After you have read enough of Strunk White to feel somewhat confident (or even frustrated) by the rules that you already knew or forgot, examine Style by Joseph M. Williams. Mr. Williams is a professor of English and Linguistics at the University of Chicago. You may have already encountered another book published by the University on the subject. Fear not; Williams book is not an immense conundrum of rules in the same vein as The Chicago Manual of Style. I prefer to think of it as a response to Strunk White; Williams will address many of the same rules of writing from a refreshingly unique viewpoint. Some readers may find his work incredibly dull and prefer The Elements of Style for its short and simple guidelines. Or you may find yourself enjoying a newfound sense of freedom from the rather liberal suggestion of Williams that some rules are, in fact, meant to be broken. If you are of an analytical or logical frame of mind you may enjoy the many diagrams and trees he created as examples of his statements. If you do not fit into this group, do not let these examples get in the way of the underlying message. Writing, Williams appears to suggest, is not about rules and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Differences Between Weak Impermissibility And The... In the aforementioned studies, an asymmetry is found between the footbridge and the bystander cases which suggests that there is an independent reason to remove any asymmetry in the personal bystander and footbridge cases. The results showed that participants were aware of the difference between weak impermissibility and all in impermissibility. In the first experiment, about 70% stated that is was not acceptable to violate a moral rule and all things considered both in the personal footbridge case. We can see a recognisable distinction in personal and moral cases, but this was not addressed in these experiments. In addition, a philosophical understanding tells us that when a rule is broken, it is wrong to go ahead with that action (e.g. Fried, 1978). It is clear then from both experiments that a difference between weak and all in permissibility is not evident (Nichols Mallon, 2005). The results show that some people think that it is acceptable to breach a moral rule, even one that allows killing innocent people. This reinforces the idea that people are not absolute deontologists, and this is similar to the issues observed in the catastrophe case. What is notable about the results is that people appreciate the recognisable difference between weak and all in impermissibility. Moreover, the results show an independent mechanism for two underlying ideas relating to moral judgement. One shows that people are able to minimise bad outcomes and the other shows people have a set ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Chalumeau and the Clarinet Essay This paper will explore the early instrument known as the chalumeau and the various types of instruments that have evolved from it. The chalumeau group of instruments were folk instruments that were played with a single reed and the chalumeau itself is most commonly known as the predecessor to the modern day clarinet. The instrument has only eight tone holes on its cylindrical bore. There are many other single reed instruments that resemble the chalumeau and were in existence during the same time period. I will be discussing the history of the chalumeau and its repertoire, similar instruments of the time, and the evolution from the chalumeau to the modern day clarinet. My sources will include scholarly articles from online databases, such... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most common of these was the soprano chalumeau, but alto, tenor, and bass versions of the instrument existed as well (Lawson). There is also evidence that there was no set key for these instruments to be pitched in. There are a few examples of surviving chalumeau to back up these claims. The first one, created by a many by the name of Liebav, is pitched in C and is 33 centimeters in length. A few more exist made by Denner and Klenig are all pitched in F and are around 50 centimeters long (Lawson). While we have surviving examples of soprano, alto, and tenor chalumeau, there are no remaining bass chalumeau for us to examine. The closest we are able to come to the bass chalumeau are three remaining instruments close to the bass clarinet in size, but they more resemble the bassoon due to their angled finger holes (Lawson). The word chalumeau itself comes to us from both Greek and Latin roots. The Greek word calamaulos means a pipe of reed and the Latin word calamellus translates to little reed (Hunt). Both words refer to the chalumeau s use of a single reed. Because of its resemblance to many other baroque instruments, the term chalumeau is also used to describe many different wind instruments in the shape of a pipe, most often resembling the recorder, that are played through the use of a single or double reed (Albert 10). For instance, the mock trumpet from seventeenth century England is classified as a chalumeau ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Christian Supernatural Of The United States Christian Demonic Exorcism in the United States The act of possession was a considered a source of illness that required a ritual type of healing to remove the demons or spirits taking control of that its host. Exorcism was used as this type of healing that occurred all around the world, including the United States. Christianity believed that there were demons that harassed, tormented and possessed humans which came from the New Testament. We learned that Satan was in charge of these acts in which being possessed gave new skills and strength because of the demon inside of them. There were other ways exorcism became popularized like the movie, The Exorcist, a 1973 film directed by William Friendkin, it is about a girl who starts acting odd and her mother seeks medical help which did nothing until a local priest advises her to get a specialist to perform an exorcism. This movie had to be the scariest of the time and it traumatized many viewers due to its graphical images and also knowing that it was loosely based on actual events. This movie was inspired by the book based on true events from the exorcism of a demon on a 14 year old boy that lived in Mount Rainier, Maryland. The author read news concerning the boy and that medical attention did not relieve any symptoms such as violent episodes and outbursts of foul language. He claimed that the boy spoke a different language and was moving across the room on his bed while asleep. This type of behavior could have been mental illness, or the case of actual demons possessing the body of the child. Cases like these attract attention throughout the cities and some are real and others are just fabricated. During these rituals, the greatest danger to the exorcist is becoming possessed by the demon or Devil himself. This is why most priests need to be free of sin so the evils spirits cannot take advantage of this and use it as punishment against them otherwise the demon will easily take over. • 15. The Cultural History Behind Racial Science Race is a fictional notion fashioned by debunked scientists in order to justify their cruelties and enhance their perceived superiority. Just as religion was once used to justify the horrors of the Crusades (Lindqvist, pg. 161), science would be the means to pardon the brutalities of imperialism, manifest destiny, and the white man s burden. Constrained by binary thinking, Western thought pinned the illusory civilized against the primitive using metaphors attached to scientific reasoning (Stepan, pg. 362). Because of Africans supposed likeness to apes, they were not fully human; skull measurements, despite being inaccurate, were used to rank the races of Mongoloid, Negro, and Caucasian (Gould, pg. 103). Through some omissions and statistical finagling, Caucasians wound up with the highest cranial capacities. Consequently, small and ape like became synonyms for inferior and stupid. In this paper, I will draw upon our class readings to explicate the cultural history behind racial science, and how science artificially constructed raceby ignoring outliers and probing for racial differences. Science was born deeply intertwined within the Western cultural realm. It developed snuggly with ideas of European grandeur through the grace and favor of Almighty God (Lindqvist, pg.11). The cultural conditioning these [scientists] had absorbed early in their careers influenced more than their writing: it skewed their research (Freedman). Coinciding with scientific inquiries of ... The first reason it is important to study persuasion is to adapt to the technological age. In this age of technology as stated in Persuasion in Today s World the author examines persuasion and why it is important that we train ourselves to become responsible receivers of persuasion. (Larson, pg. 5) He does this by first explaining that the average American is exposed to over 5000 persuasive messages a day. It is important to train ourselves to be responsible receivers because persuasive messages have become a grammar of everyday life. These messages are received through a lexicon of different mediums from television to visual art, and also conversations with children. For example: I have a lot of nieces and a nephew who watch both Disney and nick Jr. both stations persuade parents with the idea of learning and they send messages of teaching leading the parents to believe it is ok for the children to watch. This creates tiny consumers that then ask their parents to buy them things associated with the shows and characters they watch in the programs. While a lot of these persuasive messages feed into the ideologies taught to us by other messages we learn from our parents or society. Larson went on to say: Persuasion is the result of combined efforts of source and receiver. Even in cases of terrorism and hostage taking, some hostages begin to identify with their captors. These instances are as follows, ridicule raises morale at home, ridicule strips the enemy/adversary of his mystique and prestige, ridicule erodes the enemy s claim to justice, ridicule eliminates the enemy s image of invincibility, and directed properly at an enemy, ridicule can be a fate worse than death. Ridicule and humor play an important part in the way the government is run. Waller quotes John Cleese, If I can get you to laugh with me, you like me better, which makes you more open to my ideas. The more comfortable an individual or politician feels around the person trying to influence them, the more likely it will be that they will side with their opinion. The reason why ridicule is so effective is that it leverages the emotions and implies the complicated and takes on the powerful, in politics, business, law, entertainment, literature, culture, sports, and romance. The instances aforementioned are thoroughly explained by Waller by using lengthy factual and historical examples. Ridicule can be used as both an offensive and a defensive war strategy. Example 3 annotates the melody of m. 1 through the downbeat of m. 3, which fuses together three Js.(9) By fusing together three Js and altering the duration of the final pitch of each J (the durations are , , and , for the three occurrences, respectively), Brahms creates a symmetrical rhythmic structure.(10) The dots below the staff indicate metric position: two dots indicate a strong beat, one dot a weak

  • 33. Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress Essay Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress Andrew Marvell writes an elaborate poem that not only speaks to his coy mistress but also to the reader. He suggests to his coy mistress that time is inevitably ticking and that he (the speaker) wishes for her to act upon his wish and have a sexual relationship. Marvell simultaneously suggest to the reader that he/she must act upon their desires, to hesitate no longer and Віseize the moment?before time expires. Marvell uses a dramatic sense of imagery and exaggeration in order to relay his message to the reader and to his coy mistress. The speaker in this poem seems frustrated; he delicately tries to inform his coy mistress that their death is near, and they still have not had sexual intercourse. In lines 17 33 the poem seems to lose the exaggeration sense and suddenly becomes serious. He (the speaker) reinsures his coy mistress that Віyou deserve this state?(state of praise and high acknowledgment), ВіBut at my back I always hear, TimeВ№s winged chariot hurrying near? Andrew Marvelluses and interesting image in line 22 (the line mentioned above) when suggesting to his coy mistress that death is near. He substitutes the word Віdeath?for a more gentle, delicate term of ВіTimeВ№s winged chariot? This term was probably used to prevent from frightening such a coy mistress. Marvell continues to involve the readerВ№s imagination through unimaginable images. What do ВіDeserts of vast eternity?look like? In fact, Marvell probably used such abstract images to suggest to his coy mistress that their future is indeterminable, and ВіThy beauty shall no more be found? Perhaps, beauty is what the coy mistress is so concerned with and the speaker in this case is trying to frighten her to have sex with him quicker. He continues to use intense imagery when describing to his coy mistress that even after death the Віworms shall try That long preserved virginity? For a moment, I thought where I was, and remembered that I have traveled back in time to the Middle Ages. I didn t know why I was on a bed, or how. Soon after I have done dressing up, I noticed that there was a little girl right next to the door, peeking in the room. Her sister came into the room, and told me that she found me on this street that people usually don t go. She gave me a bread to eat, while I observe the room. After eating the bread, I asked if I could see their mother. And this was the most surprising. The girl told me that SHE was the mother! I couldn t believe what I ve heard, so I asked her again. Same answer. She told me that it was normal to marry early and give birth early. I asked her age, and answered 14. Oh god. I m 17. She s younger than me and is already married. And given birth. And she said it s normal. I guess medieval girls are so early on stuff. Well the rest of the day was peaceful. Emily was the mother s name and she told me that if I could help them with chores, I could stay. What a nice mom! So, I helped her clean the room up. I also noticed something else. It s normal to eat, sleep, and do other stuff in one room, since there s not enough room. Day 2 Today, I went shopping with Emily to buy food. I noticed a few things while going to the market. Before her move to the Congo, an obedient Leah would have never done anything as rebellious as this because Nathan would not have allowed it. This is evident in his failed attempt to stop her, (). Leah is victorious, winning the hunt by the kill of a young male impala. A man named Tata Ndu steals her meat and leaves nothing but a leg for Leah because he is embarrassed at the fact a girl possesses enough skill to beat him. As a result, Leah feels disrespected and discriminated against. Though she may not realize it at the time, Leah now relates to the Congolese on a larger scale. Just as her meat was taken from her, the Price family poses a threat to forcibly replace Congolese culture with their own Christian ideology. This is similar to when the United States of America have the Congolese Prime Minister, Patrice Lumumba, assassinated. Leah feels responsible and bears all the guilt because she knows that her people killed their treasured leader. After experiencing both occasions of loss, Leah begins to see from the Congo s perspective, rather than her father s. At that moment, it is clear that Leah has changed for the better. From that point, she begins a mission of her own. Her sole purpose consisting of fighting for justice in the Congo, rather than converting it to Nathan s treacherous view of Christianity. This approach is much like the functionalism viewpoint. It argues that action is meaningful to those involved and that they interpret the meaning. They also argue that how others see us affects the way we act and how we see ourselves because our actions are based on self concept. A big problem protesters like Colin Kaepernick and others are facing is that since they don t participate in the National Anthem people think that they don t like our country and are unpatriotic. For example Donald Trump and his aides took the situation into their own hands when calling out the protesters by saying, protests are unpatriotic and disrespectful to the flag and those who have fought to protect the United States (Tatum). Amir has lived a life of misery since he selfishly chose to abandon Hassan, yet after so long Amir has finally made the selfless choice, for he is determined to save Sohrab [Hassan s son], even if it means confronting Assef [the person who sexualy abused Hassan], and by doing so finally felt healed. Healed at last , for his body was broken , but his soul is cleansed (Hosseini 289). Hosseini brilliantly ended the theme in such a daring way. Bring Assef back was something that readers did not anticipate would happen. He made the theme go in a full circle, from Assef harming Hassan to Assef harming Amir. Similarly, Sophocles ends ... • 55. Similarities And Differences Between Olfo And Orsino Orsino and Olivia Orsino and Olivia are worth discussing together, because they have similar personalities. Both claim to be buffeted by strong emotions, but both ultimately seem to be self indulgent individuals who enjoy melodrama and self involvement more than anything. When we first meet them, Orsino is pining away for love of Olivia, while Olivia pines away for her dead brother. They show no interest in relating to the outside world, preferring to lock themselves up with their sorrows and mope around their homes. Viola s arrival begins to break both characters out of their self involved shells, but neither undergoes a clear cut change. Orsino relates to Viola in a way that he never has to Olivia, diminishing his self involvement and making him more likable. Yet he persists in his belief that he is in love with Olivia until the final scene, in spite of the fact that he never once speaks to her during the course of the play. Olivia, meanwhile, sets aside her grief when Viola (disguised as Cesario) comes to see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Love is generally represented as something sudden and irresistible, something that attacks its victim from the outside in a fashion similar to a disease. Like a disease, love is extremely difficult to get rid of or cure. People seem to suffer painfully from it or at least they claim to suffer. Orsino describes it as an appetite that must be satisfied (I.i.1 3); Olivia calls love a plague (I.v.265); Viola sighs that [m]y state is desperate for my master s love (II.ii.35). Because love makes those who suffer from it desperate, it has the potential to result in violence, as in Act V, scene i, when Orsino, thinking that Cesario is Olivia s lover, threatens to kill him. At this point, the play is only a few delicate steps away from turning into a tragedy a testament to how violent and terrible the power of love can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Similarities Between Reality And Fiction In The Truman Show The film called The Truman Show starring Jim Carrey is about a young man named Truman Burbank, and his life since the beginning which has been constantly surrounded by cameras for the public to watch, without him ever knowing it. Everyday he lived his constant, perfect life, following the same routine, surrounded by actors pretending to be citizens of the town of Seahaven and his loved ones, while being broadcasted for the whole world to see without a single interruption. But one day that had all changed. This film belongs to the metafictional genre and views The Truman Showthrough Truman s eyes himself. The use of metafictional elements of blurred lines between reality and fiction, different stories being created within the overall film story and the revelation of the narrator becoming a character in the film The Truman Show teaches viewers that the views that you might have are not always be the best for you or for someone else. Truman Burbank has grown up surrounded by cameras and actors yet his reactions are very real. This is why Christof, the creator, thinks the show is so compelling and why sometimes it is hard to see the differences in the film between reality and fiction. Blurred lines between reality and fiction is a very effective element of metafiction because it leaves the audience in a constant state of confusion between what s real and what s not. This is very effective in The Truman Show in the part when Sylvia decides to interrupt the show and tell Truman that his life is all a lie and that he is being watched. This blurs the line between reality and fiction in Truman s life because it leaves him confused and curious and questioning whether what she said was true or not. Since Truman has been living his whole life thinking that he was simply living a normal life, in a normal town, this comes as a shock to him and leaves him wondering what she meant. Once that event has occurred, the creator, Christof was frustrated because he did not want Truman to find out the truth of the fake reality that he had created for him because that would ruin the show. But in the end, once Truman had finally found out the truth, he chose to leave Seahaven which made Christof mad. This proves that although ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
