We Must Put an End to Frivolous Inmate Lawsuits Essay
We Must Put an End to Frivolous Inmate Lawsuits
Our forefathers were bright enough to establish a system of government with a series of checks and
balances to maintain a balanced government. For the past decade a series of checks and balances has
begun to fail our government. In our failing system of government inmates have taken advantage of
the court system and have flooded it with an inconceivable number of frivolous lawsuits. Laurel
Walters, a writer for the Christian Science Monitor, investigated inmates lawsuits and found that these
recreational litigators...are suing the courts as an intramural sports activity. Action needs to be taken in
order to rectify and protect US from this squandering of our tax payer provided funds ... Show more

These frivolous lawsuits are costing law abiding tax payers billion every year.
Frivolous lawsuits can be found in every state around the nation. In New York inmates have sued over
bad haircuts and melted ice cream and their constitutional right to use beige towels instead of white
ones. (New York Times, B2). In Texas an inmate claimed he was subject to cruel and unusual
punishment because he was served chunky instead of smooth peanut butter. In Massachusetts a
recaptured prison escapee sued because the state threw out the personal property he left behind. Lloyd
Duhaime a writer for the Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse quotes one extreme case that took place in
California. The ingenuity of this following lawsuit goes without parallel. An inmate filed a $5 million
lawsuit against himself (claiming he violated his own civil rights by getting arrested) but insisted the
state pay because he was a ward of the state (web site).
A by product of these frivolous cases are skyrocketing costs. Paper work costs, clerical costs, lawyers
and court fees accompany every case. Even for the most frivolous of lawsuits all of these costs must
be paid. Most often this bill is paid by tax payers as inmates are able to claim pauper status to avoid
the bills. By the time a case comes before a judge with the ability to toss it out, the costs associated
with the case can run as high as $4,500. Obviously, something needs to be done.
One possibility to correct this growing

Significance Of The Character Of Sam s Mother
1B) Discuss the significance of the character of Sam s mother in Brazil. 300 Words Sam Lowry s
mother, Ida, plays a significant role in the events of the film Brazil. She was always pushing Sam to
better himself by moving up the bureaucratic ladder. This is something that did not interest Sam, in
any way, as he was already fed up with his job and was looking for any excuse to escape this reality.
However, she also stood as an example of the capitalist attitude that was being shared by the people
living in Western society. She was another cog in the bureaucratic machine who believed in her looks
to the point of being obsessed with celebrity and plastic surgery. Ida would do anything to keep those

novel Cat s Cradle explores issues of science, technology, and religion, satirizing the arms race and
many other targets along the way. Both of these works of media were created in the early 1960s and

that drives the satire is Felix Hoenikker. Dr. Strangelove is is an ex Nazi scientist. He serves as

meant to be an intimidating character, who s ability to intimidate is not affected by his handicap. The
look of Dr. Strangelove is meant to immediately make the audience think mad scientist as it was based

Race In The Cyborg Manafesto, By Kurt Vonnegut
From experience as a student myself, students often read books and short stories and often only think
about what they are they are reading. People focus in on the material and nothing outside of it. The
idea of using another novel or story as a theoretical lens text never occurs to them. A theoretical lens is
when you use another piece of work to describe, or bring out more detail in another piece of work.
The Cyborg Manafesto by Donna Haraway compliments many of the ideas brought up in Breakfast of
Champions by Kurt Vonnegut. Haraway s claims about race, the distinction between human and
machines, and the concept that humans are cyborgs all support the themes and ideas in Breakfast of
Champions. Donna Haraway s claim about humans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is said that machines are not self moving, self designing, or autonomous,(Harraway 151). They
could not do what men could do, they could only mock it. As you look at Breakfast of Champions you
can see how this compliments the novel. This is pertaining to Dwayne Hoover, who is the other main
character in Breakfast of Champions. His actions at the end of the novel were because he couldn t not
distinguish the difference between humans and machines. Hoover went on a rampage at the end of the
novel. He was convinced everyone was a machine besides him and went on a rampage hurting many
people. He tried to justify his actions by saying everyone was else was a machine which meant they
didn t have feelings. So he couldn t hurt them. He didn t feel remorse because after all, he still thought
he attacked machines. Haraway s ideology compliments this because Dwayne Hoover needed to
realize the difference between humans and machines. His insanity drove him to the point where he
couldn t distinguish what was what and he only thought he, himself was a

Weaknesses Of Dracula
Count His Powers, Count His Weaknesses Is a vampire a sinister blood sucking monster, or is a
vampire an attractive teenager who sparkles? Dracula was written in 1897 and is the first piece of
literature that includes vampires and sets up the characteristics of future vampires. Dozen of works of
literature has been created based off of the creature in Dracula for example the novel Twilight and as
time goes on literature has tweaked some of the vampire s traits, powers and weaknesses. Dracula is a
gothic novel with gothic elements such as a decaying setting and supernatural beings or monsters.

Heidelberger gives the illusion that Dracula in fact looks undead meaning decaying. These
characteristics are widely know, just like the powers of a vampire. Stoker s novel Dracula also
outlined the supernatural powers that a vampire possesses. Van Helsing states, He can, within his
range, direct the elements: the storm, the fog, the thunder; he can command all the meaner things: the
rat, and the owl, and the bat the moth, and the fox, the wolf (Stoker 237). Van Helsing, the vampire
expert in the novel tells some key powers that the vampire Dracula has which is the ability to control
weather and the ability to command animals such as: rats, owls, bats, moths, foxes and wolves. When
Van Helsing is talking about Dracula s powers he also says, he can grow and become small; and he
can at times vanish and come unknown (237). These powers are shapeshifting and teleportation.
Shapeshifting is the ability to change into whatever shape and size that the person who obtain this
power wants to, and teleportation is the ability to teleport from place to place. In Allan Johnson s
article Modernity and Anxiety in Bram Stoker s Dracula he says, While Dracula can transform into
mist and summon bloodthirsty wolves, these powers prove to be poorly matched against the new
technologies and conveniences of everyday life in England (Johnson 5). Johnson is saying how even

The writing encompassing this subject contains numerous predispositions. Some emerge from the
ideological perspectives or suspicions of the creators and some emerge as a result of poor strategy.
Some writing is one sided toward the desire for extreme negative responses of women who have
encountered fetus removal and a few writers are exceptionally incredulous of this. These creators
feature the improper speculation of conclusions from these examinations and propose they are of
constrained logical legitimacy and educate small concerning the experience of by far most of abortion
patients . There is considerably less recorded data with respect to the potential constructive outcomes
that fetus removal may convey to the women or the impacts on women when abortion is denied, a
special case being the paper by Dagg (1991). The writing has a tendency to recommend that ladies
who don t encounter trouble following premature birth may encounter more positive feelings, for
example, alleviation, fulfillment and a feeling of coming back to ordinariness. Post abortion feelings

The Impact Of Economy On The Economy
The economy continues to experience stable personal income growth, increasing 0.4% in April. On a
quarterly basis, personal income rose 4.1% in the first quarter, staying within the higher than 4% trend
that started in the first quarter last year. In the first quarter, personal income rose to $15,129 billion,
higher than the 2014 fourth quarter of $14,979 billion. Real disposable income that is personal income
less personal taxes adjusted for price changes rose 5.3% in the fourth quarter, to $13,285 billion.
Rising personal income fueled increasing PCE. PCE increased 1.8% in the first quarter with services
and durable goods consumption rising at 2.5% and 1.1%, respectively. Despite uneven monthly jobs
data, the economy s labor utilization continued to rise. In January and February, 201,000 and 266,000
jobs were added, respectively. March jobs numbers, however, were disappointing adding only 119,000
jobs causing the unemployment rate to stay unchanged at 5.5% in February and March. Nevertheless,
the unemployment rate continued to fall in the first quarter and the trend continued in April and May.
Total number of jobs added in the first quarter was 552,000. April job numbers confirmed that March
was a one off dip, adding 221,000 jobs, which brought the unemployment rate down to 5.4%.
Although 280,000 jobs were added in May, unemployment rate was recorded 5.5%, due to an increase
in the civilian labor force by 0.25% compared to a 0.1% increase in April. The economy

Family Dynamics Chapter Summary
Reading reaction 2
This chapter tell us about what they called the creator of the family movement Mr. Bowen. In this
chapters the lectors could find the theoretical formulations where some angles are form to describe the
union or functions of the family and how they are connected to each other (e.g., emotional triangles,
process, cutoff, society, genogram, differentiation, etc.) and so forth, (Nichols M. 2017; pg. 71 87).
Personally as we all grow and learn from each chapter of the book every information is important on
our careers. The information that I most retain in this chapter are the theoretical formulations and
strategies that will help us understand the family dynamics. Chapter five tells us family problem
solving; there is a six steps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The information that was new to me is the six steps models. As professionals we need to learn all the
information and techniques that we can apply to the benefit of the family.
Chapter six talks about structural theory this is important because every family has a structural base in
place; some concept are boundaries, subsystems, alignments, and complementary which are easy to
apply in therapy. The family structure is how is the interaction of the family, then how they interact
with each other and their own personal boundaries between each other. To be able to provide an
effective outcome in family therapy is imperative to consider the entire family members. The chapter
provide a guideline for structural family assessment as we can observe in page 120 (Nichols M. 2017).
The information provided in this chapter open the view of observing the interaction within the family
members and how it relates to the conflicts. All the information in this book it is imperative, however,
the family assessment was a good key for us as beginners. Learning all this material help us grow as
professionals in our careers.

album stuck out to me tracks two, three, and seven. More commonly known as Omen, Holding On,

Examples Of Banish Me From Apes
Banish me from Eden when you will;
But first let me eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge! Robert Ingersoll41
There are four ways in which humans differ from apes::
1. They have souls,
2. Their bodies are mostly free of hair,
3. Women suffer birth pangs, and
4. They speak.
Each of these changes is discussed in Genesis. The soul was provided by God near the end of the
Sixth Day. Upon their expulsion from Eden, Adam was to eat bread in the sweat of thy face . And Eve
was to bring forth children in sorrow .

But such a land is mentioned in the Bible, albeit cryptically. Theologians have dreamed up
metaphysical ideas to tell us that no such physical place actually existed; that it is just a punitive

We shouldn t laugh at the Bible. And we shouldn t look for ego serving fantasies to explain away its

The Importance Of Music Education
Music education is a very important and basic part of general education, but now in China s high
school, teachers and students are not aware of the importance of music education. For instance, In
China, students only have one music lesson a week and music lessons may be canceled at any time if
other teachers want to use the music lesson for their own subject. What s more, students didn t take
music lessons seriously, they always do some other things in music lessons like playing games,
chatting with classmates or doing their homework for other subject. The reason why music lessons in
China s high school becomes like this situation is that there are many problems existed in China s high
school music education. Therefore, from my perspective, I think there needs to be a greater
understanding of the importance of music education in China s high schools and the current music
education there should change.
First and foremost, teachers use outdated teaching methods and students cannot concentrate on music
lesson because of other academic tasks. For example, teachers always directly introduce the
background of music works, accompaniment instruments and melody styles to students. They don t
care about if every student understands what they said. In this way, the music completely loses the
sense of mystery and the students maybe seem to listen to it very carefully, but they actually already
lost the curiosity of music. Also, students do not concentrate on the class, so they totally

Why Do School Lunches Be Banned From Schools
Today one in five school aged children (ages 6 19) have obesity and people debate over how to
decrease this number and prevent it from being more of an issue in the future. School lunches are
often brought up in this discussion, some say that by getting rid of all junk food in schools would help
decrease the number of obese students and prevent them in future by providing only healthy food
options. On the other hand, they say that it s not that simple, the problems are at home and that getting
rid of these items could decrease revenues for school activities from those products.
Many people believe that junk food should be banned from schools across the nation. In fact, Carol
Duh Leong who was once on the board of Doctors of America found that, a slight reduction of as little
as 100 calories a day, for example from the removal of soda from children s diets could result in
weight loss. By getting rid of soda machines in schools ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They say child obesity is not the fault of school lunches, school meals are only consumed once a day,
meaning that the majority of meals are being eating at home and this makes what kids eat the
responsibility of the parents (Metallo). They feel that because more meals are consumed at home, they
effect on their weight is happening at home more than it is at school so it is the fault of the the child s
parents for their unhealthy habits. Another reason why people think they should not need to ban junk
food from schools is, schools that have began to get rid of vending machines have lost thousands of
dollars and found, funding things like athletics and schools activities became increasingly hard to pay
for (Rosenthal). In other words, vending machine revenues are often used for funding school
activities, if they were to be taken out of schools they would cause schools to lose fundings because
the contents of most vending machines are junk

Resistance Of The Underground Railroad
During the 19th century, African American slaves used various ways to show resistance to the harsh
slavery from their masters. They used three measures to rebel against slavery; they ran away, rebelled
against slavery and performed acts of resistance like slowing their down work. Among the three
measures, running away was the only measure that helped them escape for their freedom. The
runaway slaves escaped to a nearby forest and others visited their spouse or relatives on other
plantations. This did not grant them the freedom they way looking for and hence they looked for other
means to escape. During the same period, the Underground Railroad occurred and it was more
effective in helping slaves escape. The Underground Railroad was basically ... Show more content on

desperation for freedom. Most people did not manage to escape with their families through the
Underground Railroad and for that reason, this is one of the major challenge faced by slaves who
escaped through the Underground Railroad. Most of the conductors of the Underground Railroad
ended up in prison for helping slaves escape. Abolitions also helped the Underground Railroad

Example Of Behavior Modification
The behavior that I will be choosing to modify is the increase in studying. This is a behavior that is
extremely beneficial to me because I not only learn what I need to know, but I learn how manage time
better and how to set my priorities better. Studying is something I need to modify because studying to
me is something that is difficult to do, mainly because I feel it is like a chore more than anything else.
My mindset on studying is my biggest issue and is the biggest reason studying is a behavior
modification I need to increase. The most I want to study a day is at least two hours for at least two
classes, so a total of four hours a day of studying. Most of the time when I study, I get sidetracked
easily and end up using up time on something else rather than studying. The antecedent of this
behavior may be the problem, because I am not putting myself in an environment where I can study
the best or potentially learn the best. The consequence of that is that I end up not studying affectively
enough for my classes and not doing as good as I would have liked to. ... Show more content on

When I start to find studying to be boring, I find or do something that is more entertaining to me and
compromise time studying for time doing something fun. I put myself in an environment that lets
myself do something I find interesting when I do get bored, and as a consequence I lose time in my
overall studying time and my focus on the subject I am learning. My mindset starting off when I study
a problem too because I see it as a chore and that makes me not want to do it. My mindset for studying

Harriet Tubman And The Underground Railroad
The underground railroad is a secret network for helping slaves escape from the South to the North
and to Canada in the years before the Civil War ( Oxford Dictionaries | The World s Most Trusted
Dictionary Provider ). It is called this because although the Underground Railroad was neither
underground, or a railroad, the system worked in a similar fashion to a railroad( Fast Facts The
Underground Railroad ). The passengers followed a route; there were many stops; a conductor led the
way, which explains the railroad part( Fast Facts The Underground Railroad ). It was underground
because it had to be a secretive operation in order to succeed, and the runaway slaves often had to hide
to stay safe( Fast Facts The Underground Railroad ). It is said to have started around 1830 and went on
until 1865, the end of slavery in the United States and it was formed as a convergence of various
clandestine efforts. There were people who guided the fugitive slaves, known as conductors . One of
the more famous conductors was Harriet Tubman. Many others, who wanted slavery to end, also
known as abolitionists, participated in helping slaves make their way to freedom. Hiding places
included private homes, churches, and schoolhouses, called stations, safe houses, and depots, and are
operated by people called stationmasters. According to history.com, most of the slaves helped by the

Air Pollution
4.4. DATA The US air emission data employed in this study is obtained from the US Environmental
Protection Agency s national emission inventory (USEPA 2006; 2009), covering all anthropogenic
emissions of six air pollutants (SO2, PM2.5, PM10, NOx, VOC, and NH3) in the 48 states of the US
(excluding Alaska and Hawaii). The gross external damage (GED) is estimated by Muller et al.
(2011). The 2002 industry level GEDs are identified by a six digit industry code from the North
American Industry Classification System (NAICS). In total, there are about 840 NAICS industries
included. To account for transferred values of goods and services through trade, we employ Input

In order to link emissions and damages to the IO data, we match industries in six digit NAICS code to
industries in six digit IO code, and it is no problem for most cases. However, there are two exceptional
cases. One exceptional case is that for 20 IO industries, we cannot find the matched NAICS industries.
That is, there is no information on damages in the 20 IO industries. Thus, in the baseline model, we
leave damages in the 20 industries equal to zero. Another exceptional case is that with regard to the
agricultural industries and construction industries, damage data are in a more aggregated level.
Therefore, disaggregating GEDs are necessary with respect to those industries. In the baseline model
we allocate GEDs in agricultural and construction industries proportionally to value added. The
procedures to handle these two exceptional cases are explained in Appendix B. Furthermore,
sensitivity analyses are carried out in Section 4.6 to assess changes of results if different approaches
are used to handle these issues. For the simplicity of results presentation and results discussion, we
further aggregate the estimated results into 42 sectors according to the IO code. Hereafter, we refer to
the 6 digit IO industries as industries , and refer to the 42 aggregated IO sectors as sectors . In
addition, according to the sectoral characteristic, the 42 sectors can be allocated into three broad
aggregates: the primary

St. Joseph s Day Altar
Italian Americans, especially Sicilians, celebrate St. Joseph s Day, since he is regarded as a patron
saint. Joseph (San Giuseppe) is believed to protect the family, and the poor or otherwise ill fated. That
s why large feasts, at time accommodating somewhere around 100 people, are typically held on March
19 in his honor, though honor is clearly shown to more than Joseph.
The altar is usually built inside the hostess s (altar makers ) home, usually in the living room. The
everyday altars are normally permeant and out of the way and subtle and simplistic. The St. Joseph s
Day altar however is made to draw the eye and adorned with food. The altar consists of many different
foods and lots of sweets. There are some general aspects in the decorating for the altar, but the details
can vary widely from home to home. Offerings are made about everything for health to money to the
general protection of the family.
The day before the feast, the men are given their one culinary task of spaghetti, gravy, eggs and sauce,
with ingredients made up by the woman. This is usually done within a garage or tent, the woman
checking in or even supervising. This is one of the few task the men have due to the event mostly
being managed by the women, on the day of as well as long before the day arrives. The authors point
out the men often remarking they having nothing to do for the most part until this point.
The ritual on St. Joseph s Day surround the altar. The altars are constructed over a

The Common Themes Of Zen Buddhism
Zen Buddhism can be fairly confusing to the average person; the teachings and stories may come
across as arbitrary or nonsensical. However, do not let that deter you from getting to experience a
religion that offers a highly different perspective of the world. The focus will be on analyzing some of
the common themes of Zen Buddhism which is comprised in the Zen Slogan (associated with the First
Patriarch). The phrase is: a special transmission outside of the teachings not established upon words
and letters; it directly points to the human mind and seeing one s Nature one becomes a Buddha. The
goal is to explore the meanings that each of these lines convey, and how they might have been shaped
by the previous ideologies of Indian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, that is not the case as we explore the next line of this slogan.
These transmissions are not established on words and letters , which further highlights the distinct
nature of this process. Going back to the interaction between Bodhidharma and Huiko, Finally Huiko
bowed and remained standing at his seat. The master said, you have gained by marrow (Foster and
Shoemaker 8). This interaction clearly emphasizes how these teachings are not passed down based on
words. One might wonder, what significance does bowing have in response to the master s question?
The answer can be related to the Daoist text, The Daodejing, The Way that can be spoken of is not the
constant Way (Theodore, Bloom 79). In this case, The Way means enlightenment, and the solution
does not involve words. Indeed, Daoism has made an impression in the Chan teachings; however,
there do seem to be exceptions to this transmission style. The sixth Patriarch Huineng composed a
verse that conveyed the idea of emptiness, Bodhi originally has no tree. The bright mirror also has no
stand. Fundamentally there is not a single thing. Where could dust arise? (McRae 62). This verse
conveyed the profound nature of ƚƫnyatā in which everything is impermanent or changing. While this
might be perceived as contradictory, the words that he uses are arranged in a way that is not

A key factor of the lunch was communication, in which people were both talking business but at the
same time building a relationship by getting to know each other and talking about their past.
2/26/16 Created an excel workbook Deferred Revenue Balance 2016 that highlights deferred revenue.
The sheet was at first intended to assist the auditors in performing their job but it will be re used to
help validate that the company is properly recognizing deferred revenue when it is earned. The reason
for re using the spreadsheet is because the company has gotten more customers than usual, who wish
to pay in advance. This advanced payment creates a liability, that needs to be recognized properly. The
spreadsheet was created by creating a smartlist using Great plains that displays all information related
to Deferred Revenue. After creating the smartlist, the information was exported into an excel
spreadsheet Deferred Revenue Transactions , which was all that the auditors required. Then to re use
the workbook a new sheet Deferred Revenue Balance was added, which pulled information from the
first sheet through formulas. After creating the formulas on the second spreadsheet, any information
inputted into the first sheet was moved to the second sheet in a more organized and informative
display, which also displayed whether debits and credits were balanced. Now the workbook will be
updated on a monthly basis to ensure proper recognition of Deferred Revenue. To

Analysis Of Grave Of The Fireflies
The film Grave of The Fireflies directed by Isao Takahata is based off true events and is set in Japan
during World War 2, we have seen many movies set in the time of world war two however there are
few movies which are portrayed from the losing side Japan. The movie follows two kids witnessing a
bombing of their home, which subsequently killed their mother due to her being burned by the fire
bombs. The movie is shown through the perspective of the boy s ghost as it follows the life of himself
and his younger sister through hardship and war. We see how the boy must step up to take care of his
sister due to their mother s death and the father who is at war, we see the bond between the brother
and the sister goes beyond this life as the sister s ghost watches over him and waits for him in the
afterlife. I am going to be analysing two scenes in the film which shape the film because they have the
most importance or detail in them. Scene 1 The scene starts with Seita unveiling a bucket and
watching as fireflies disperse into the shelter that him and his sister are living in. We see, as the
fireflies are released and lighting up the shelter and the faces of the kids as this gives them hope and a
distraction of their harsh world that they are both living in. The siblings lie down and watch as the
fireflies disperse throughout the shelter, we then see a different light in the shelter we can see a distinct
difference between this light and the fireflies as they seem to be forming a

Evidence Led Crime Reduction Project
Evidence Led Crime Reduction Project to Reduce Shoplifting
Shoplifting, once described as something committed by individuals who are too afraid to take other
criminal risks (Egan Taylor, 2010); is a widespread problem across England and Wales, which is
slowly becoming known as a common method of consumer product acquisition (Cox, Cox Moschis
1990). There has been many methods introduced in order to tackle this growing issue, yet there is a
lack of official crime reduction guidelines to allow an effective and unanimous approach towards the
successful reduction of shoplifting.
The scale of shoplifting in the United Kingdom in the past few years has changed to worrying levels,
this is also true of the scope of shoplifting as well. The Office of National Statistics have reported
321,008 police recorded shoplifting incidents from April 2013 to March 2014 (See Statistics 2010,),
along with this articles have shown 34 of policed forces across the UK have presented a 6% increase
in shoplifting (Pidd Collier, 2014). Such academics as Klemke (1978) have claimed that shoplifting
significantly reduces with age (See Egan Taylor, 2010), it seems to be a so called hobby that is popular
amongst the younger generations, particularly adolescents.
Furthermore, official government crime statistics have shown that shoplifting rates were around three
times higher in urban and city areas than in rural areas with supermarkets experiencing shoplifting
more than other retailers (Home

  • 2. We Must Put an End to Frivolous Inmate Lawsuits Essay We Must Put an End to Frivolous Inmate Lawsuits Our forefathers were bright enough to establish a system of government with a series of checks and balances to maintain a balanced government. For the past decade a series of checks and balances has begun to fail our government. In our failing system of government inmates have taken advantage of the court system and have flooded it with an inconceivable number of frivolous lawsuits. Laurel Walters, a writer for the Christian Science Monitor, investigated inmates lawsuits and found that these recreational litigators...are suing the courts as an intramural sports activity. Action needs to be taken in order to rectify and protect US from this squandering of our tax payer provided funds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These frivolous lawsuits are costing law abiding tax payers billion every year. Frivolous lawsuits can be found in every state around the nation. In New York inmates have sued over bad haircuts and melted ice cream and their constitutional right to use beige towels instead of white ones. (New York Times, B2). In Texas an inmate claimed he was subject to cruel and unusual punishment because he was served chunky instead of smooth peanut butter. In Massachusetts a recaptured prison escapee sued because the state threw out the personal property he left behind. Lloyd Duhaime a writer for the Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse quotes one extreme case that took place in California. The ingenuity of this following lawsuit goes without parallel. An inmate filed a $5 million lawsuit against himself (claiming he violated his own civil rights by getting arrested) but insisted the state pay because he was a ward of the state (web site). A by product of these frivolous cases are skyrocketing costs. Paper work costs, clerical costs, lawyers and court fees accompany every case. Even for the most frivolous of lawsuits all of these costs must be paid. Most often this bill is paid by tax payers as inmates are able to claim pauper status to avoid the bills. By the time a case comes before a judge with the ability to toss it out, the costs associated with the case can run as high as $4,500. Obviously, something needs to be done. One possibility to correct this growing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Significance Of The Character Of Sam s Mother 1B) Discuss the significance of the character of Sam s mother in Brazil. 300 Words Sam Lowry s mother, Ida, plays a significant role in the events of the film Brazil. She was always pushing Sam to better himself by moving up the bureaucratic ladder. This is something that did not interest Sam, in any way, as he was already fed up with his job and was looking for any excuse to escape this reality. However, she also stood as an example of the capitalist attitude that was being shared by the people living in Western society. She was another cog in the bureaucratic machine who believed in her looks to the point of being obsessed with celebrity and plastic surgery. Ida would do anything to keep those in the upper echelon of the government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Race In The Cyborg Manafesto, By Kurt Vonnegut From experience as a student myself, students often read books and short stories and often only think about what they are they are reading. People focus in on the material and nothing outside of it. The idea of using another novel or story as a theoretical lens text never occurs to them. A theoretical lens is when you use another piece of work to describe, or bring out more detail in another piece of work. The Cyborg Manafesto by Donna Haraway compliments many of the ideas brought up in Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut. They could not do what men could do, they could only mock it. As you look at Breakfast of Champions you can see how this compliments the novel. This is pertaining to Dwayne Hoover, who is the other main character in Breakfast of Champions. His actions at the end of the novel were because he couldn t not distinguish the difference between humans and machines. Hoover went on a rampage at the end of the novel. He was convinced everyone was a machine besides him and went on a rampage hurting many people. He tried to justify his actions by saying everyone was else was a machine which meant they didn t have feelings. So he couldn t hurt them. He didn t feel remorse because after all, he still thought he attacked machines. Haraway s ideology compliments this because Dwayne Hoover needed to realize the difference between humans and machines. Van Helsing states, He can, within his range, direct the elements: the storm, the fog, the thunder; he can command all the meaner things: the rat, and the owl, and the bat the moth, and the fox, the wolf (Stoker 237). Van Helsing, the vampire expert in the novel tells some key powers that the vampire Dracula has which is the ability to control weather and the ability to command animals such as: rats, owls, bats, moths, foxes and wolves. When Van Helsing is talking about Dracula s powers he also says, he can grow and become small; and he can at times vanish and come unknown (237). These powers are shapeshifting and teleportation. Shapeshifting is the ability to change into whatever shape and size that the person who obtain this power wants to, and teleportation is the ability to teleport from place to place. Each of these changes is discussed in Genesis. The soul was provided by God near the end of the Sixth Day. Upon their expulsion from Eden, Adam was to eat bread in the sweat of thy face . The Importance Of Music Education Music education is a very important and basic part of general education, but now in China s high school, teachers and students are not aware of the importance of music education. For instance, In China, students only have one music lesson a week and music lessons may be canceled at any time if other teachers want to use the music lesson for their own subject. What s more, students didn t take music lessons seriously, they always do some other things in music lessons like playing games, chatting with classmates or doing their homework for other subject. The reason why music lessons in China s high school becomes like this situation is that there are many problems existed in China s high school music education. Therefore, from my perspective, I think there needs to be a greater understanding of the importance of music education in China s high schools and the current music education there should change. First and foremost, teachers use outdated teaching methods and students cannot concentrate on music lesson because of other academic tasks. For example, teachers always directly introduce the background of music works, accompaniment instruments and melody styles to students. They don t care about if every student understands what they said. In this way, the music completely loses the sense of mystery and the students maybe seem to listen to it very carefully, but they actually already lost the curiosity of music. On the other hand, they say that it s not that simple, the problems are at home and that getting rid of these items could decrease revenues for school activities from those products. Many people believe that junk food should be banned from schools across the nation. That is, there is no information on damages in the 20 IO industries. Thus, in the baseline model, we leave damages in the 20 industries equal to zero. Another exceptional case is that with regard to the agricultural industries and construction industries, damage data are in a more aggregated level. Therefore, disaggregating GEDs are necessary with respect to those industries. In the baseline model we allocate GEDs in agricultural and construction industries proportionally to value added. The procedures to handle these two exceptional cases are explained in Appendix B. Furthermore, sensitivity analyses are carried out in Section 4.6 to assess changes of results if different approaches are used to handle these issues.
