The Athenian Jury In The Apology
Depicting the justification between the Athenian jury against the father of philosophy, the Apology
exhibits Plato s recollection and interpretation of the notorious trial of Socrates. Accused of refusing to
worship the gods recognized by the Athenian state, corrupting the youth, and informally addressing
himself throughout the trial, Socrates presents himself as a villain or an enemy to the Athenian society
and jury. Even though Socrates could have solicited pity towards the jury by strengthening his defense
with emotional appeal, Socrates refusal to appease the jury in the Apology justly transcends the moral
values of the Athenian jury and the modern human. Socrates emphasis on preserving the impartiality
of the trial provides support for Socrates refusal to appease the jury. Given the opportunity to show
pathos and ethos appeal the importance of his family and friends Socrates restrains himself from
instigating any bias into the trial, in order to keep the trial unprejudiced. Showing emotions
conceivably cloud the jury s judgment and influence its decisions to support ... Show more content on

Knowing he could receive the penalty of execution, Socrates did not fear death due to his belief of his
old age and his views on death. Socrates views death like sleep in which the sleeper does not even
dream at all and like a trip from here to another place that all of the dead do indeed exist in another
place (Cooper 35). Despite Socrates fatherly love for his sons, he self assuredly requests his friends to
look after sons hoping the truth of pursuing goodness above money and earthly may be passed on to
his children. Socrates optimistic views on death and his sons overshadow any limitations for the
spread of his philosophical ideas, revealing the gravity of the truth in Socrates

I Speak Through My Clothes
I speak through my clothes. (Hebdige, 1993: 100, quoting Eco, 1973) Fashion is one of the ways that
one creates identity. In particular, since the rise of youth culture in the 1960s fashion has become... a
way of defining one s identity or else a way of avoiding such definition . (Gonzalez Bovone, 2012: 23)
The 1960s saw a rise in mass production of consumerism fashion, and has been used as a form of
expressing ones identity; whether it be inspired or interpreted from religion, social status, habitus,
gender, cultural icons, or subcultures (such as punk, pastel goth, hipster, etc.) Crane states in Fashion
and its Social Agendas, that due to the availability of inexpensive clothing... that those with limited
resources can find or create personal styles that express their perceptions of their identities (Crane,
2000: 6); the consumer is expected to construct an individualised appearance from a variety of
options. (Crane, 2000: 155) However, Polhemus argues that Fashion is an arbitrary language system
where things are really what they appear to be (Polhemus, 2011: 49), suggesting that fashion is a tool
used for illusion. Bovone contributes, stating that On the stage of everyday life, the performer declares
what he is... his image is at stake and he is involved in a continuous negotiation with his fellow
performers and the audience. (Gonzalez Bovone, 2012: 72) Polhemus and Bovone both illustrate that
whilst fashion helps to create identity, it is not a reliable

Money And Happiness In The Great Gatsby
Rick Pitino once said, I d learned how much happiness money can bring you, very little. Just as
Fitzgerald tried to stress throughout his novel, money will never make a person fully content in life.
Francis Scott Fitzgerald, better known as F. Scott Fitzgerald, was one of the great authors of 20th
Century America. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on September 24, 1896. Finding success from a
young age, he wrote The Great Gatsby at the ripe age of 29. As seen in the book, Gatsby constantly
lavished himself with finer material things, trying to fill the void Daisy had left him with. On the other
hand, although Daisy had everything and anything money could buy, she was lifeless. Almost every
character at some period throughout the book, tried to replace joy with wealth. Money and happiness
do not correlate, although one may try to buy their happiness with material things, it is simply not
possible. The source of true happiness will never be money. Jay Gatsby worked tirelessly for years,
just to attain the wealth he believed would complete his life. He became a huge success, and was even
thought to be superior to others. Sadly, this turned out to be all in vain, because it did nothing but
cause the desire in him to grow. His life had been confused and disordered since then, but if he could
once return to a certain starting place and go over it all slowly, he could find out what that thing was...
(Fitzgerald, 110). This goes to show that ever since Daisy had left, he was

Why would companies choose to disclose Intellectual Capital information in the narrative sections of
corporate annual reports?

Page Court: 7
Introduction
The importance of Intellectual Capital information (IC) has been increased in the current economic. It
refers to intangible resources which create company value (Ashton, 2005). Human capital, structural
capital and relational capital are the main categories of IC (Meritum 2002). There are some factors of
the IC, such as employee knowledge and innovative capacities (Usoff, Thibodeau, Burnaby; 2002).

Analytical researches will based on the competition (Verrecchia, 1983; Darrough and Stoughton,
1990) and firm value (Hughes, 1986). On the other hand, Empirical research will be mainly focused
on the impact of the firm characteristics (Cerf, 1961). Elliott and Jacobson (1994) also claims that
there are three benefit of business information disclosure, the entity s interests, Non owner investors
interests and the national interest.
The first part of the essay will be focusing on three categories of IC. Then, it will be discussing the
relationship between IC and Market to book ratios. Next, it will be focusing on the future benefit of
voluntary disclosure.
Human Capital
Human capital plays a considerable role in the economic environments. It is not cash, assets, but it is
people, which are the critical differentiators of a business enterprise (Fiz enz, 2000). It is an
organisation s possess individual tacit knowledge (Nelson and Winter, 1982). There are four factors
involved by human capital: genetic inheritance, education, experience and attitudes about life and
business (Hudson, 1993). All of these factors are intangible and can be invaluable. Human Capital is a
source of innovation and strategic renewal, such as improving personal skills, re engineering new
process or just daydreaming at the office (Hudson, 1993). According to Figure 1 (Bontis, 1998),
Human Capital is about the intellect of human. It is an internal control and development

Automotive Industry Essay
The housing industry isn t the only American business that has gone through withdrawals in the last
fifteen years. In 2008, the automotive industry hit a critical point when the United States government
was forced to bail out General Motors and Chrysler. However, this wasn t the first time the automotive
industry had struggled in this nation. The years following the United States involvement in the
Vietnam War saw many American automotive companies losing their profits. As with any business,
the car companies fought to make it through several United States recessions which greatly reduced
their income. An article by Business Insider tells us that as America fought through the Gulf War in
1991 and the Iraq War from 2001 2003, many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
April and May of 2009 saw a defeated Chrysler and General Motors finally declare bankruptcy. A
great deal of Americans lost their jobs when the industry declined, and the automotive companies
turned to the United States Government for help. The government rescued both General Motives and
Chrysler, while Ford merely obtained a credit line to ensure they would have a bridge loan available if
needed.
The decision to bail out these companies was a controversial one, and much of the spotlight was
focused on the then President Obama. Many criticized his support of these companies, and felt that
loaning them money only led to negative economic outcomes. The Big Three used the opportunity
they had been given to make a number of profitable changes to their companies. Not only did they idle
factories across the nation that weren t producing efficiently, they also greatly reduced the number of
employees that required a payroll every month. Slowly but surely, the automotive industry began to
recover.
In an article entitled Celebrating the Auto Bailout s Success , Washington Post editor Robert J.
Samuelson comments that while the President s decision was in high debate at the time, it is now clear
that the automotive bailout has been a solid success in many ways. First, the auto industry has been a
strong part of the ongoing manufacturing recovery across the nation. Second, dealerships

Mill s Harm Principle
Mill s harm principle of One should not interfere with other people s lives unless those people are
doing harm to others (p.G3), is in other words, if a person do not cause harm to others, there is no
reason to prevent his/her actions. Mill s belives that an individual is the supreme sovereign of his/her
own acts. Even when the decisions taken may be some harm upon him/her, the responsibility of these
actions is only on the individual.
When it comes to drug legalization, many people think that drugs should be legalized. It would stop
drug traffic, its use would be safer, and would be a better drug control under the state and government.
Obviously, the harm principle is linked to this opinion due to, If a person does no one else harm by a
moderate drug intake, then he or she should be allowed to continue using drugs (Rosenstand, 256).
Gun control is another polemic topic. If an individual buy a gun to protect him/herself, apparently do
not cause harm to others. But, what about when an individual buy 30 different guns and kill 50 people
leaving other 500 wounded? This is the case in the recent shoorting in Las Vegas, Nevada. How is
possible for a man to buy 30 guns without any authority interference? These shooting are constantly
happened in the United States, a country in which a gun control exists, what would happened if there
wasnot a gun control? Of course, Mill s harm principle fail in its application in this case. Peraphs
Mills applied his harm principle only to adults and in control of his mental faculties (Rosenstand,
255).
Many people think that to wear a helmet should a personal desition and should be not mandatory.
After all, if harm is cause for not wearing a helmet, it will be a personal harm and no a general harm
for society, People have the right to chose their own poison (Rosenstand, 255).
Certainly, to consume a drug, buy a gun, or wear a helmet are personal decisitions. But pleople should
take into account that legalized or not, there are still drug consumers; under control or not, people is
still buying guns to harm others; and mandatory or not, people are still driving a bicycle or a
motorcycle without wearing a helmet. Then, at the end of the day, as Mill stated, Over himself,

Mutiny In Romeo And Juliet
Unfamiliar Word Educated Guess Dictionary Definition Piteous This word s prefix is similar to pity.
Therefore it should logically mean the two families will reunite with pity intertwined in their hearts
and endeavor to start a new beginning with peace. Using the Oxford dictionary they describe piteous
as, deserving or arousing pity. I am proud of myself for using the technique of observing the prefix
and therefore understanding the meaning of the word. Civil In this particular sentence Shakespeare
uses irony to discuss two corrupt views who wholeheartedly believe their perspective is civilized not
comprehending that numerous deaths lay on their shoulders. Similar to my analyzation this word s
true intention describes citizens who (ironically) are civilized, cultured and polite with the other social
classes. Dignity A person who has overcome adversities and is worthy to be elevated in the social
hierarchy, gaining both respect, equality, and self importance. In the definition for words in Romeo
and Juliet, dignity is a word which describes a social position in the overall hierarchy. It is truly
astounding that a word through the ages can transform into a different meaning. Mutiny When one
perspective uses someone as a scapegoat which has been caused by jealously and unforgiven grudges.

One could say that it is the house where photosynthesize occur. The chlorophyll never changes from
its original form nor is combined when photosynthesis occurs.
Plants absorb energy from the sunlight whether on land or in the water. The energy is transferred to
humans and some animals that eat plants. Some animals are not able to eat plants so they eat other
animals who has energy stored up in them. Humans also receive a source of energy from animals that
we eat. What is quite amazing is that maggots receive energy from animals that have been dead for a
long period of time.
Photosynthesis has a two stage performance before plants produce the two products they are known to
produce. These stages are Photosystem I and II. Photosystem II is dependant on light reactions for
energy which causes the electrons to be react and be transferred to Photosystem II. The electrons are
transported through the Photosystem II electron transport system, however some energy is used to
drive ATP synthesis. Meanwhile, light is being absorbed by the Photosystem I, which causes the
electrons to react. This process sends the electrons to the Photosystem I transport system where some
energy is released as electrons travel through the electron transport system and is captured as NADPH.
When this process is completed oxygen is released from the plant and glucose has been

An Analysis of Oedipus and Aristotle s Definition of the Tragic Hero
Introduction
In the Poetics, Aristotle provides an outline of how the artist is to portray or represent the perfect
Tragedy. A Tragedy, of course, was nothing more than a drama, in which the characters appeared
better than in real life (in a comedy, they appeared worse, according to Aristotle). Aristotle s Poetics
makes several references to other dramatic works to illustrate his points, but he most commonly calls
upon The Odyssey to support his argument for how a dramatic structure should be designed. However,
along with the Odyssey, Aristotle extensively references Sophocles Oedipus Rex. Both poetic works
were enormously popular in their time (the former had been passed down orally for generations, and
the latter won the top prizes at the dramatic festivals). Therefore, Aristotle is comfortable using both to
support his viewpoint concerning Tragedy and the Tragic Hero. This paper will analyze the standards
that Aristotle sets out concerning the definition of the Tragic Hero and show how Sophocles Oedipus
exemplifies Aristotle s definition of a Tragic Hero.
The Tragedy Before beginning, however, it is necessary to examine the aim of Tragedy. A Tragic
work, according to Aristotle, was simply one that showed men as better than they typically are in
everyday reality. Tragedy served to show mankind at his noblest, without, however, depicting man as
unreal or unbelievable. To represent a noble man

Age Of Voting Essay
In the article, Takoma Park 16 year old savors his history making moment at the polls, by Annys Shin,
many teens who are 16 17 years old can now vote during the election. The decision was made by the
Takoma City Council that in Montgomery County Community, they are the first ones in the nation to
lower their voting age from 18 16 years old. A group of 350 students from Montgomery Blair High
School were granted the right to vote in elections and one of the student who got the right to vote, Ben
Miller had said, It s a valuable Privilege, and he means that it is a great advantage that many 16 17
years old can now vote. Many young adults who are the age of 18 are most likely not a good age to
vote because many of them are planning to leave their childhood homes. And they can lack of
discipline and causes them not to vote.
In my position I agree to lower the age of voting to 16 17 years old because it can raise up the
percentage of voting. Many people are not voting because they don t believe it can help them and their
community also with the support from 16 17 years old, it can show a huge difference on how the votes

Genetic Modification Essay
Genetic modification is a subject that has been hotly debated in the past, and remains a topic of
controversy today. There are many critical discussions to be had with genetically modified (GM)
products, however, this paper will focus on corn crops that have been modified to incorporate Bacillus
thuringiensis (Bt) genes. Corn is the largest food crop in the world and Bt corn is one of the largest
crops in North America. Bt corn has several benefits, yet, there are also many potential problems with
the crop and its impacts on local ecosystems. Although environmental issues may raise concerns, Bt
crops have an immense upside with proper management of the Bt gene.

He concludes, more investigation of the ecological and biological interactions involving the Bt genes
needs to be done before effective insect resistant management strategies can be crafted. Increasing
insect, bacterial, and viral resistances are some of the primary concerns with genetically modified
crops. Recently, there have been several new documented insect resistances to the Bt gene that have
raised major concerns in the scientific community about the future of genetic engineering (Coates
2016). Ostrina nubilalis was the largest pest to corn crops prior to the introduction of Bt crops,
populations of O. nubilalis saw drastic decreases after the widespread implementation of Bt crops.
Once the Bt crops were employed, new insect resistant management strategies needed to be adopted to
stop insect resistances from forming too rapidly. Unfortunately, these strategies seem to be an
insufficient means in preventing resistances forming swiftly and negating the sustainability of these B
crops (Coates 2016). Currently, there is not enough information about the interactions between the
crops and their pests to develop effective insect resistant management strategies (Coates 2016).

Difference Between Pop Culture, Art And Craft And Pop Culture
Historically here there are a lot of art movements such as Art Deco, Art Craft and Pop Culture, and all
of the art movement has changed the way the people see and design things. In this essay, I will be
discussing the difference between Pop Culture and Art Deco and how this two movement has changed
the style of people. Now let s talk about why I would choose these two art movements because these
two art movements are part simple but there was a lot of different distance contexts the art was created
as well as general history in these art movements.
First Pop art is the start in 1952 in London it was started by a group called The Independent Group
they were called as the pop art pioneer. It was a composition by a group of young artist, Sculptor,

Ontario Approach An Reflection Point Summary
The article Provincial Municipal Relations in Ontario: Approaching an Inflection Point discusses how
the relationship between provincial and municipal government in Ontario needs to adapt to changing
circumstances as time goes on. In order for the relationship to adapt there needs to be more
communication on what both levels of government roles and responsibilities are in order to better
serve the province as partners. One of the strengths of this article is that it is broken up into sections to
discuss different aspects of the provincial municipal relationship and how both levels of government
can communicate to better understand their roles. The article also discusses financial issues and how
the strengthening of the provincial municipal relationship can help combat the financial concerns on
the horizon, such as the municipal infrastructure deficit. A weakness of this article is that although it
provides many thoughtful examples of how the Ontario government has been able to strengthen the
provincial and municipal relationship in the past, it needs to focus more on the solution as opposed to
the examples. The past examples should be only to support the articles argument as opposed to being
the argument itself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Weber s Theory Of Authority
The purpose of this essay is to analyse Weber s theory of authority and power in order to establish its
role in the modern contemporary world today. Weber, in his most acclaimed writings, discusses his
three ideal types of authority being outlined as traditional, charismatic and rational legal authority. He
believes that in order for any political leader or political establishment to hold legitimate authority
over its peoples, they must have either one of these types of authority. All of these types of power and
authority can be referred to in some way in today s contemporary world using examples of differing
political leaders and systems. However, Weber s writings were conducted in 1922 and may be
considered as out dated, and not as relevant as they were at his time of writing. Also, many dispute
that Weber s types of authority were perhaps not entirely relatable and Martin Spencer, like many
other critics of Weber s work in fact argue that there should have been four types of authority. Hence
why these issues must be discussed in order to conclude whether Weber s ideal types of authority are
representative of political leaders and governments, and whether or not they can be associated with the
contemporary world we live in today.
Max Weber introduced his three types of authority in an essay which was first published in 1922 in
German, and was later published in 1958 in English. Weber believes that many systems can consider
themselves as holding legitimate authority, yet

The Table By Sylvia Plath Tone
The Table, written in 1998 by Ted Hughes, is a free verse poem communicating the idea of loss, using
the death of his wife, Sylvia Plath, as his form of expressing his experiences and interpretations of the
topic. The change of tone from the beginning to the end of the poem assists the idea of loss, as well as
the language used and the strong use of imagery. Ted Hughes wife, Sylvia Plath, struggled with
depression for most of her life. Hughes seems to be using this poem as an opportunity to convince the
reader of his desire to support her love of writing but it was through her writing that she was truly able
to express her own grief and loss and to eventually let her long dead father back into her life the result
being Hughes losing his wife to her father.

to her as he can t compete with her father. I embraced / Lady Death, your rival (Hughes, 36 37).
Hughes is signifying that he must accept that he has lost his wife, physically and emotionally and all
the plans and dreams they had for their lives. His tone begins to turn to anger and bitterness after her

from multiple characters. This short story is very popular and can be viewed as a story within a story.
I do not think that the story could happen without the deception of the niece because that is what the
story is based around. It s the central theme. Some examples from the story are when she is talking
about the window and why the window is kept open. Also, another example from the story where the
niece shows deception is when she

The Early Disagreements Within Christianity
I believe this is one of the reasons Christianity thrived because people needed some shrivel of hope. 7.
Outline some of the early disagreements within Christianity. See (Christianity for the First 3,000
Years) for details. Consider the nature of Jesus, the Gnostic gospels, the Council of Nicaea etc. The
resurrection of Jesus himself is a concept that is hard to believe. How can a man come back to life,
and why is this the first time this has happened? Jesus was not written about till after his death. The
gospels were told by Jesus apostles and their recollection of Jesus and his teachings. The Council of
Nicaea were Christian theologians who decided which stories about Jesus to include in the Bible. The
Council of Nicaea left out the Gnostic gospels hidden knowledge which talked about Jesus s early
childhood. Why should we believe the council when they left out the parts of Jesus life they did not
agree with. Even those whose hearts were inclined to accept the new faith required some intellectual
satisfaction before they were willing to commit: How can God be three separate beings God, Jesus,
and the Holy Spirit and one indivisible being at the same time? If Jesus is coeternal with God, why is
there no mention of him in the two thousand year tradition of Hebrew writings? If Jesus is the divine
Son of God, how could he experience such human emotions as temptation, fear, and loneliness? 1 (pg.

Introduction
Pharmaceutical industry is a science organisation that research and develop medicines to help improve
people s life. There are four departments in pharmaceutical. They are researching, development,
production and marketing. In this report we will be going to investigate only 2 of these departments.
They are research and manufacturing. This investigation will include the risk on health and safety in
both departments and how they are similar or different to each other. We will be talking about how to
prevent or decrease the risk of it happening and the cause of the hazard. Also we will be talking about
how it affects the employer and the employees.
Potential hazards how to prevent them
Different hazards in manufacturing.
Dusts explosions can happen when stone or iron pieces get in to a disintegrator or grinding mill, this
could create a spark which ignite any flammable substance. This also requires large amount of oxygen
available for the flame to ignite. To manage dust and avoid any explosion, dust must not compile and
it should be removed as soon as it formed. Also by using a process called inerting this will cause the
dust to be diluted to a level less than its lower limit of explosive range. This is

Have you ever wondered why power goes corrupt or why it hasn t been the same power can go corrupt

the power is being corrupted well then that how u know when the power ain t in good hands. Like
when the kids kept lying to the man or the guards were being mean and cruel to the prisoners treating
them unfairly. The power has to be in the right hands but the man in the well and the Stanford prison

The Word Love In The Giver
Many words in the English language don t mean what they say. For instance, disinterested does not
mean that you are not interested in something. It rater states best that someone is not influenced by
personal feelings or concerns. In the novel The Giver , the most common words that fit into this topic
are love, stirrings, and release.
The word love in Jonas s society has a very negative effect on people. To start it off, this bland word
was very overused. Before is was called insignificant, Jonas s community would use the word love to
describe your feeling to or about someone or something without really knowing true meaning. This
next quote that was taken from the novel clearly states that Jonas s parents think that this meaningless
word was very inappropriate of Jonas to use. Your father means that you used a very generalized
word, so meaningless that it s become almost obsolete. Although love is one example of an important
word in this novel, another is stirrings. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Title IX Responsibilities
Dr. Myers, I brought this to Emily s attention last Tuesday in the presence of my Res. Life area team,

Gorgias Essay
Gorgias
In Gorgias we have a conversation between Socrates, Gorgias, and Polus, Gorgias young assistant.
They speak on the matters of rhetoric, knowledge, and whether injustice and suffering is better to do
or have done onto you. While conventional wisdom tells us that it is better to inflict suffering than to
receive it, Socrates argues that it is completely the opposite. Part of Socrates view is that moral
goodness is connected with knowledge, and that morally it is better to receive suffering than inflict it.
The argument begins with Polus telling Socrates that rhetoric and oratory can give you great power
and high regard. He likens their position to tyrants who do what they see fit. To this Socrates says, I

We do what we see fit to pursue the good or the better for ourselves. If we put someone to death we do
so because we believe it is beneficial. Now if having great power and doing what you see fit are
means to get to the ends which is the ultimate good, than by killing someone and inflicting more
suffering on them than yourself it is actually an abuse of power by using it without intelligence. If
intelligent use of power is always for the good and by putting someone to death it is actually worse,
aren t we really doing something that we do not want to do because it is not the better? At the same
time we are doing something that we see fit, we are actually not doing what we want to do because the
outcome is not the good but the bad. Socrates says that, Can such a man possibly have great power in
that city, if in fact having great power is, as you agree, something good?
Polus can t believe this claim and asks Socrates why it is that he would rather suffer injustice than
inflict it. Socrates says that he believes that, ...doing what s unjust is actually the greatest of evils. If
we are going too morally suffer for deeds that we saw fit, it is actually worse than suffering at the

In act three Macbeth begins to grow more jealous of Banquo because it is his sons that are to succeed

Justification in The Old and New Testaments Essays
When a man is justified before God, he is declared not guilty with reference to the sins he has
committed against God. Amazingly, God s not guilty verdict does not relate to just one crime, but to
every sin the justified man has ever committed or will commit. Paul declares that we have no penalty
to pay for sin, which includes past, present or future sins that we may commit. Those who have been
justified by faith, There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Rom.
8:1). Therefore, if we are justified there is no penalty to pay for sin and we are free to any charge of
guilt or condemnation. Douglas Moo writes it beautifully, Because we are justified by faith in

Abraham inherited his sinful nature through Adam, so he was sentenced to a physical and spiritual
death. Abraham was credited righteousness by being obedient to the Law of God.
In Genesis 6:8 it describes God and Noah s relationship, But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.
In Hebrews 11:7 it states, By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in
reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and
became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. Noah was righteous through his faith. Noah
was not righteous by his works or obedience to God.
Paul quotes David as a blessing in Romans 4:6 8, just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one
to whom God counts righteousness apart from works: Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are
forgiven, and whose sins are covered; blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.
Paul introduces David as a example of righteousness by faith. Paul cites Ps. 32:1 2 to demonstrate that
David s righteousness was not based on his works. This demonstrates the idea of full forgiveness of
sins is prominent when Paul discusses justification by faith alone.
In Psalm 14:1 3 David says every person sins. Also, David states in

Blasted Essay
INTRODUCTION
1990s bore witness to the emergence of a new angry young generation whose works have been
branded as speculative, confrontational, sensational, infuriating, taboo breaking, barbaric,
disheartening, and gloomy (Bicer, 2011). Aleks Sierz designated the the term in yer face for the works
of young playwrights and the theatrical trend which includes unrestrained sex scenes and extreme use
of violence (Bartleet, 2002,1). Mark Ravenhill, Anthony Nelson, and Sarah Kane constituted the most
controversial dramatists of the decade (Sierz, 2000, 9). These playwrights uttered a contemporary
voice which spoke to young people portraying a composite picture of British society (Bicer, 2011).

When it was first performed at Royal Court Theatre in 1995, Blasted, rocked the stages and aroused a
remarkable dissension (Bicer, 2011). It generated major waves in the British theatre world. Many
critics claimed that Blasted is the exemplary In yer face theatre play, and one of the plays that moved
this theatrical movement further (Satkunananthan, 2015, p. 17). Kane s texts deal with the themes of
suffering, sexual desire, detrimental love, psychological and physical aspects of barbarism, problems
of distress, despondency, and death. She shattered the established notions of the audiences through
analyzing these particular themes (Bicer, 2011). Violence constitutes one of the most distinguishing
features of Kane s writings and rape is an oft used theme by the author. It is a centralized part of
proceedings although the act s itself is not performed (Ward, 2013, 229). Kane, focusing on Bosnian
war of the early 1990 s, tried to show the disastrous scenes of bombings, sorrow, persecution,
mutilation, hunger, cruelty, gender violence, rape, and abuse that define war (Bicer, 2011).

Guidelines And Suggestions For A Recommendation
Introduction
Having a well known and standard process to create a policy or procedure is crucial in an
organization. The lack of one could lead to confusion and hindrance in the implementation of a
potentially necessary process. In many organizations, however, there is room for improvement.
Recommendations and suggestions should be encouraged, as they can aid in the success of these
plans. It is not enough, though, to simply suggest improvements. Action must be taken on the
suggestions, or they will likely remain unchanged. Succeeding this, once a recommendation has been
implemented, and organization must implement some way of measuring the status of it. This paper
focuses on the metrics Organization A uses to measure the success of a recommendation. All opinions
expressed in this paper are that of the author unless otherwise specified. The policy development
process in Organization A is contingent upon what department a policy affects. For example, if the
Accounting department needs to develop a process that handles, for example, sending a report to a
supervisor, then the procedure simply must be worked out within the department. In this example, the
policy may not be written down; it may just be understood and common practice. However, if the
Accounting department found the need to implement a policy that specified how all employees must
handle expense reports, then this must be decided by the core business unit (BU) leaders.

operations of Congress Essay
Throughout history, there have been many factors that seem to have influenced the operations of
Congress. Some of these factors have been the committee system, seniority, and political parties.
These are only a few of the factors that actually have an influence on Congress s decisions of certain
operations.
The first factor that seems to have influenced the operations of Congress is the committee system.
Congress has four different types of committees. The four committees are the joint committees,
conference committees, standing committees, and select committees. The standing committee has an
influence on Congress because of the fact that they have jurisdiction over all the bills of a given type.

The Committee chairpersons are the ones with the real power. There is an unwritten rule that the
majority party member with the longest continuous service on a committee becomes chairperson when
a vacancy occurs. The committee chairperson is the only one in the committee that actually has a real
say in what is going on, and that opportunity is given to the one that has served his time the longest.
However, that is no longer allowed. A historical event that has influenced Congress s operations is the
Legislation Reorganization act of 1970.This act ensures that there will be no more seniority because.
Now a secret ballot elects them, however, the member with the most seniority usually wins anyway.
The third factor that seems to have an influence on the operations of Congress is the public opinion.
Logically, if the public thinks that a certain congressman doesn t know how to do his job, then he won
t get elected. That s why the public opinion has a major influence the operations of Congress because
the public has say if that Congressman or Congressmen will get elected again.
In conclusion, there are many factors that influence Congress s decisions of certain operations
throughout history. Some of those factors include the committee system, seniority, and the public
opinion. Most of the factors have to do with making sure that there are no corrupt congressmen, or

them all.
I didn t like how this tape was the reason people were dying because it is so unrealistic, which made it

him stand out more in female dominated occupations. Having that said, he can smoothly rise to higher

Loss, a Common Theme in Sweetheart of the Song Trabong and...
Mark Fossie from the Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong and Troy Maxson from Fences are two
different literary characters in two different types of literary work that have many similarities. The
Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong written by Tim O Brien is a fiction story. Fences by August Wilson
is a play. Both of these literature works have a theme of loss, whether it is of the character himself or
someone the character loves deeply. The loss can be a physical loss of the person through death or a
mental loss of the person through a tough breakup that the character brought on himself. The
Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong ends with Mark losing his sweetheart Mary Anne Bell to the

He is controlling and wants her to stay by his side all the time. Mark being over controlling is a
method of foreshadowing that hints to the reader that by the end of the story, they will not be together.
Troy Maxson from Fences has a wife named Rose who is ten years younger than him. Throughout the
play, there are instances where Troy controls her. Armstrong says, Troy is very strong and set in his
ways. He is a very hardened man who has had to survive on his own since he was young. He says
exactly what he feels, regardless of how they may affect the person, who can be his wife or sons
(Armstrong, 17). When he is talking to Jim Bono, his friend, he tells her to go away. In the beginning
of the play, he talks to Bono and she comes outside. Troy says, What you worried about what we
getting in for? This is men talk, woman. When he says men talk this symbolizes that he thinks of Rose
and women as being lower than men. He thinks that she will not understand what they are talking
about and he would not want her to anyways. Troy also mentions Death a lot. He claims that he has
wrestled with Death. He says, he wrestled with Death for three days and three nights and he is still
standing here to tell people about it. Rose says, every time Troy tells that story he finds different ways
to tell it. Different things to make up about it. Troy be talking about that stuff and half the time do not
even know what he be talking about. This gets Troy mad. He tells Rose

British Policy Of Appeasement At World War II
British Policy of Appeasement at the Beginning of World War Two The First World War was the
beginning of a new era in fighting. Weapons and fighting technique had drastically changed, making
war much more dangerous. With the predictions for the new weapons including poisonous gas and
bigger bombs, Great Britain was very much afraid for its citizens, especially men and women of
fighting age. The country wished to avoid war at any cost. The choices of Neville Chamberlain and
The Parliament favoring appeasement affected the decisions of other European leaders, such as French
Premier Daladier, Joseph Stalin, Benito Mussolini, and Winston Churchill, and those choices helped
Britain enter the war. Many believe that with the Treaty of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later that year, Italy and Germany both supported the revolutionaries of Spain. France had a policy of
nonintervention and Britain had forbidden the sale of arms to either side. Even when the Spanish
government fell, because of the inability to buy arms, Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain tried to
recreate a friendship with Italy. Chamberlain was also interested in a general settlement that would
include Germany. His beliefs were that Germany had been treated unfairly and self determination
should be allowed for countries wanting to reunite with Germany.3 Chamberlain was for appeasement
at any cost. Avoiding war was most important to him. He wanted to make Germany happy and avoid
war; unfortunately, he misjudged Hitler. He believed that Hitler only wanted to rebuild Germany and
so because of his previous mentioned sympathies he believed he was working with Hitler to reconnect
Germany. But instead he was working to create more tensions and anger through out Britain and
Europe as is shown in the next paragraph. The next move by Germany was in September of 1938,
when Hitler demanded that the Sudetenland be returned to Germany based on self determination. The
Sudetenland had been annexed to Czechoslovakia by at the Paris Peace Conference when the country

  • 2. The Athenian Jury In The Apology Depicting the justification between the Athenian jury against the father of philosophy, the Apology exhibits Plato s recollection and interpretation of the notorious trial of Socrates. Accused of refusing to worship the gods recognized by the Athenian state, corrupting the youth, and informally addressing himself throughout the trial, Socrates presents himself as a villain or an enemy to the Athenian society and jury. Even though Socrates could have solicited pity towards the jury by strengthening his defense with emotional appeal, Socrates refusal to appease the jury in the Apology justly transcends the moral values of the Athenian jury and the modern human. Socrates emphasis on preserving the impartiality of the trial provides support for Socrates refusal to appease the jury. Given the opportunity to show pathos and ethos appeal the importance of his family and friends Socrates restrains himself from instigating any bias into the trial, in order to keep the trial unprejudiced. Showing emotions conceivably cloud the jury s judgment and influence its decisions to support ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Knowing he could receive the penalty of execution, Socrates did not fear death due to his belief of his old age and his views on death. Socrates views death like sleep in which the sleeper does not even dream at all and like a trip from here to another place that all of the dead do indeed exist in another place (Cooper 35). Despite Socrates fatherly love for his sons, he self assuredly requests his friends to look after sons hoping the truth of pursuing goodness above money and earthly may be passed on to his children. Socrates optimistic views on death and his sons overshadow any limitations for the spread of his philosophical ideas, revealing the gravity of the truth in Socrates ... • 3. I Speak Through My Clothes I speak through my clothes. (Hebdige, 1993: 100, quoting Eco, 1973) Fashion is one of the ways that one creates identity. In particular, since the rise of youth culture in the 1960s fashion has become... a way of defining one s identity or else a way of avoiding such definition . (Gonzalez Bovone, 2012: 23) The 1960s saw a rise in mass production of consumerism fashion, and has been used as a form of expressing ones identity; whether it be inspired or interpreted from religion, social status, habitus, gender, cultural icons, or subcultures (such as punk, pastel goth, hipster, etc.) Crane states in Fashion and its Social Agendas, that due to the availability of inexpensive clothing... that those with limited resources can find or create personal styles that express their perceptions of their identities (Crane, 2000: 6); the consumer is expected to construct an individualised appearance from a variety of options. (Crane, 2000: 155) However, Polhemus argues that Fashion is an arbitrary language system where things are really what they appear to be (Polhemus, 2011: 49), suggesting that fashion is a tool used for illusion. Bovone contributes, stating that On the stage of everyday life, the performer declares what he is... his image is at stake and he is involved in a continuous negotiation with his fellow performers and the audience. Just as Fitzgerald tried to stress throughout his novel, money will never make a person fully content in life. Francis Scott Fitzgerald, better known as F. Scott Fitzgerald, was one of the great authors of 20th Century America. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on September 24, 1896. Finding success from a young age, he wrote The Great Gatsby at the ripe age of 29. As seen in the book, Gatsby constantly lavished himself with finer material things, trying to fill the void Daisy had left him with. On the other hand, although Daisy had everything and anything money could buy, she was lifeless. Almost every character at some period throughout the book, tried to replace joy with wealth. Money and happiness do not correlate, although one may try to buy their happiness with material things, it is simply not possible. The source of true happiness will never be money. Jay Gatsby worked tirelessly for years, just to attain the wealth he believed would complete his life. He became a huge success, and was even thought to be superior to others. Sadly, this turned out to be all in vain, because it did nothing but cause the desire in him to grow. His life had been confused and disordered since then, but if he could once return to a certain starting place and go over it all slowly, he could find out what that thing was... (Fitzgerald, 110). This goes to show that ever since Daisy had left, he was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The decision to bail out these companies was a controversial one, and much of the spotlight was focused on the then President Obama. • 10. Mill s Harm Principle Mill s harm principle of One should not interfere with other people s lives unless those people are doing harm to others (p.G3), is in other words, if a person do not cause harm to others, there is no reason to prevent his/her actions. Mill s belives that an individual is the supreme sovereign of his/her own acts. Even when the decisions taken may be some harm upon him/her, the responsibility of these actions is only on the individual. When it comes to drug legalization, many people think that drugs should be legalized. It would stop drug traffic, its use would be safer, and would be a better drug control under the state and government. Obviously, the harm principle is linked to this opinion due to, If a person does no one else harm by a moderate drug intake, then he or she should be allowed to continue using drugs (Rosenstand, 256). Gun control is another polemic topic. If an individual buy a gun to protect him/herself, apparently do not cause harm to others. But, what about when an individual buy 30 different guns and kill 50 people leaving other 500 wounded? This is the case in the recent shoorting in Las Vegas, Nevada. How is possible for a man to buy 30 guns without any authority interference? These shooting are constantly happened in the United States, a country in which a gun control exists, what would happened if there wasnot a gun control? Of course, Mill s harm principle fail in its application in this case. Peraphs Mills applied his harm principle only to adults and in control of his mental faculties (Rosenstand, 255). Many people think that to wear a helmet should a personal desition and should be not mandatory. After all, if harm is cause for not wearing a helmet, it will be a personal harm and no a general harm for society, People have the right to chose their own poison (Rosenstand, 255). Certainly, to consume a drug, buy a gun, or wear a helmet are personal decisitions. But pleople should take into account that legalized or not, there are still drug consumers; under control or not, people is still buying guns to harm others; and mandatory or not, people are still driving a bicycle or a motorcycle without wearing a helmet. An Analysis of Oedipus and Aristotle s Definition of the Tragic Hero Introduction In the Poetics, Aristotle provides an outline of how the artist is to portray or represent the perfect Tragedy. A Tragedy, of course, was nothing more than a drama, in which the characters appeared better than in real life (in a comedy, they appeared worse, according to Aristotle). Aristotle s Poetics makes several references to other dramatic works to illustrate his points, but he most commonly calls upon The Odyssey to support his argument for how a dramatic structure should be designed. However, along with the Odyssey, Aristotle extensively references Sophocles Oedipus Rex. Both poetic works were enormously popular in their time (the former had been passed down orally for generations, and the latter won the top prizes at the dramatic festivals). Therefore, Aristotle is comfortable using both to support his viewpoint concerning Tragedy and the Tragic Hero. This paper will analyze the standards that Aristotle sets out concerning the definition of the Tragic Hero and show how Sophocles Oedipus exemplifies Aristotle s definition of a Tragic Hero. The Tragedy Before beginning, however, it is necessary to examine the aim of Tragedy. A Tragic work, according to Aristotle, was simply one that showed men as better than they typically are in everyday reality. Ontario Approach An Reflection Point Summary The article Provincial Municipal Relations in Ontario: Approaching an Inflection Point discusses how the relationship between provincial and municipal government in Ontario needs to adapt to changing circumstances as time goes on. In order for the relationship to adapt there needs to be more communication on what both levels of government roles and responsibilities are in order to better serve the province as partners. • 20. Weber s Theory Of Authority The purpose of this essay is to analyse Weber s theory of authority and power in order to establish its role in the modern contemporary world today. Weber, in his most acclaimed writings, discusses his three ideal types of authority being outlined as traditional, charismatic and rational legal authority. He believes that in order for any political leader or political establishment to hold legitimate authority over its peoples, they must have either one of these types of authority. All of these types of power and authority can be referred to in some way in today s contemporary world using examples of differing political leaders and systems. However, Weber s writings were conducted in 1922 and may be considered as out dated, and not as relevant as they were at his time of writing. Also, many dispute that Weber s types of authority were perhaps not entirely relatable and Martin Spencer, like many other critics of Weber s work in fact argue that there should have been four types of authority. Hence why these issues must be discussed in order to conclude whether Weber s ideal types of authority are representative of political leaders and governments, and whether or not they can be associated with the contemporary world we live in today. Before is was called insignificant, Jonas s community would use the word love to describe your feeling to or about someone or something without really knowing true meaning. This next quote that was taken from the novel clearly states that Jonas s parents think that this meaningless word was very inappropriate of Jonas to use. Your father means that you used a very generalized word, so meaningless that it s become almost obsolete. Although love is one example of an important word in this novel, another is stirrings. ... • 28. Gorgias Essay Gorgias In Gorgias we have a conversation between Socrates, Gorgias, and Polus, Gorgias young assistant. They speak on the matters of rhetoric, knowledge, and whether injustice and suffering is better to do or have done onto you. While conventional wisdom tells us that it is better to inflict suffering than to receive it, Socrates argues that it is completely the opposite. Part of Socrates view is that moral goodness is connected with knowledge, and that morally it is better to receive suffering than inflict it. The argument begins with Polus telling Socrates that rhetoric and oratory can give you great power and high regard. He likens their position to tyrants who do what they see fit. If intelligent use of power is always for the good and by putting someone to death it is actually worse, aren t we really doing something that we do not want to do because it is not the better? At the same time we are doing something that we see fit, we are actually not doing what we want to do because the outcome is not the good but the bad. The lack of one could lead to confusion and hindrance in the implementation of a potentially necessary process. In many organizations, however, there is room for improvement. Recommendations and suggestions should be encouraged, as they can aid in the success of these plans. It is not enough, though, to simply suggest improvements. Action must be taken on the suggestions, or they will likely remain unchanged. Succeeding this, once a recommendation has been implemented, and organization must implement some way of measuring the status of it. This paper focuses on the metrics Organization A uses to measure the success of a recommendation. All opinions expressed in this paper are that of the author unless otherwise specified. The policy development process in Organization A is contingent upon what department a policy affects. For example, if the Accounting department needs to develop a process that handles, for example, sending a report to a supervisor, then the procedure simply must be worked out within the department. In this example, the policy may not be written down; it may just be understood and common practice. However, if the Accounting department found the need to implement a policy that specified how all employees must handle expense reports, then this must be decided by the core business unit (BU) leaders.
