Suffering In The Screwtape Letter
What comes to mind when the word suffering is mentioned? It usually brings up images of pain,
hardship, and unpleasantness. However, C. S. Lewis brings new meaning to suffering in The
Screwtape Letters. In one of the letters, Screwtape writes to Wormwood about the paradoxial use that
God makes of our suffering. By the end of Chapter 8, the reader is left to see that suffering itself can
be more powerful than times of ease and happiness in drawing someone closer to God. To begin with,
the troughs in life can be more valuable to one s soul than the peaks . In chapter 8, Screwtape tells
Wormwood, Now it may surprise you to learn that in His efforts to get permanent possession of a soul,
He relies on the troughs even more than on the peaks;

Analysis Of Robert Lipsyte s Jock Culture
What s the worst that can happen? I think as I push myself into a 10 foot deep pool without any
certainty that I would float. This is the manner in which I do things: opening my mouth with no idea
of what would happen next, and as one can imagine, this requires a step out of the comfort zone. I tell
myself that though I am not the most confident in my abilities, I at least have the courage to begin
somewhere. This keeps me motivated to continue putting myself into deep holes and finding my way
out along the way. Robert Lipsyte s Jock Culture has helped me to decide what these qualities meant
in terms of my place in society. His classification of Jocks: people who were brave, manly, ambitious,
focused, patriotic and goal driven and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe in submission to authority, winning by any means necessary and group cohesion, which
Lipsyte are the keys to flourishing if one accepts that there are Jocks and Pukes in society. (2) In social
settings, I display bravery by initiating conversation. Though this can often cause anxiety, I value
meaningful relationships and good vibes so I have accepted that I must initiate in order to get what I
want, and over time, I have become more confident in my social skills so it became easier. I am the
girl with the bright smile who will greet someone with an enthusiastic hello. Through my experiences,
I have realized that socializing makes for a great time, allowing people to laugh, smile and learn new
things. So, as a Jock, I have found myself approaching people first upon expecting the best outcome of
each encounter, rather than waiting around for something that may never happen, like a Puke.
Sometimes it is good to live life on the edge. Although Jocks may live more eventful lives, all that
glitters is not gold, meaning that there is a spot for insecurities, some that even affect my performance.
One place where I feel most insecure, and like a Puke, is the gymnasium. My childhood experiences
can account for my Puke like characteristics considering I had to deal with a limp and hyperhidrosis.
According to the doctors, I had a stroke in my mother s womb, which is a result of the very noticeable
limp I had to walk with my entire life. Ironically, the

Literary Synthesis Essay
My choice for consideration of this essay are Edgar Allen Poe s The Purloined Letter and, Katherine
Mansfield s The Garden Party . In reading these works I enjoyed the beauty with witch the words
flowed, because if often seemed like the writer was using poetry to present their story. The similes and
metaphors brought the text to life, and I was able to picture myself alongside one of the characters.
Even the use of onomatopoeias made my sense of sound participate in the reading. The diction with
which the author chose to have his/her characters speak help me to establish a time period and setting
in my mind. All of this helped to create a complete picture of what the writers were trying to convey
within their works; however, it was the word choices that made me feel as though literature is not
relevant to contemporary society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the sentence But this ascendancy, I interposed, would depend upon the robber s knowledge of the
loser s knowledge of the robber. Who would dare (Poe 3), is filled with literary problems for a
contemporary society. I had to look up the words interposed and ascendancy in the dictionary.
According to dictionary.com, ascendancy means govern or to be the controlling influence; dominance.
The word interposed means to put a barriers or obstacle between or in the way of something or
someone. Although the use of these types of words were in use during this time period, they are
outdated and not in use now. Having to look up the words made the reading less enjoyable.
Additionally, in contemporary writing the use of a question mark is expected. In this sentence, Poe
elected not to use this punctuation. Today s reader has come to expect a question make at the end of a
written question. Lastly, the word knowledge is used twice in one sentence. This repetition made the
sentence appear wordy and not

Devil Facial Disease
Tasmanian Devil facial cancer disease (DFCD) is a unique contagious cancer, which is transmitted
among Devil populations by biting, causing the cancer to present itself in tumours around the oral
cavity. The cancer cells have previously been found to be a rogue clonal cell line from a single Devil.
Aims
The aim of the two research papers was to investigate telomere length in Tasmanian Devils, the Devil
Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD), and in closely related marsupials. One of the articles focused on the
striking dimorphism between the homologous chromosomes of the Devils, and proposed possible
explanations for this, while the other article focused more closely on the telomere length and
maintenance in the cancer cells, analysing the expression ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was completed with over 65 tissue samples from various locations. The analysis was performed
with quantitative PCR, using fluorescent signals.
Terminal restriction fragment analysis of the Devil telomeres was used to reveal that non repeat
sequences are present between the telomeric repeats in the telomeres of the Devils (Bender et al.,
2012). This technique involved the digestion of the DNA with certain restriction enzymes, and the
product was then run on an electrophoresis gel.
Semi quantitative RT PCR was used in both articles to examine the expression of the catalytic subunit
of telomerase in various cells from the Devil in order to detect the presence and activity of telomerase.
Additionally a non quantitative telomere repeat amplification protocol (TRAP) was used to detect
telomerase activity, this involved the use of PCR and gel electrophoresis in order to visualise the
results.

Importance of Accountability
PV2 Starling, LaTonya Importance of Accountability The importance of accountability and
communication in the Military is so each and every personal is all on the same page. Also so our
organization runs smooth. Communication is the heart of what makes the United States Army what it
is today. Without communication vital information would not be passed down from the Chief of
Command to a chain of Non Commissioned Officers to the soldiers. Not to mention, innocent lives
would be in jeopardy, missions would be misconstrued, and simple information from NCO to soldier
would be conflicted. The smallest amount of information is always imperative. For example, if a
soldier goes out over the weekend and doesn t inform anyone of he or she ... Show more content on

If you always have a hundred percent accountability you will never have any problems like wondering
where someone is or like wondering why something missing. If you ever have a problem like that then
it is because you are not doing a very good job at keeping track of anything. If someone like that were
to be in charge of a large group of people and not know if someone could be missing is not a good
way to be leader. That s why being disciplined on it early in your career is important. I understand.
One example of being responsible would be to remember to properly PMCS you re vehicle prior to
taking it on mission. The responsible thing to do would be to go through every aspect of the PMCS
and not taking any shortcuts. If your vehicle were to fail on you while you were outside the wire you
could potentially endanger everyone s lives on the entire convoy. As said before responsibility must be
used in every part of being a Soldier in the U.S. Army, not just PMCSing a vehicle, responsibility falls
under just about every topic such as, waking up with enough time to prepare for your first formation,
or mission, being in the proper uniform, and having all of the inspect able items without having to be
reminded or helped in any way. Accountability is: the obligation imposed by law or lawful order or
regulation on an officer or other person for keeping accurate record of property, documents, or funds.

Narcissist Personality Disorder
Narcissism is a disorder which summed up is just only caring about yourself, but i m not able to just
sum it up like that am I :) . It is a personality disorder that leads you to be more interested into oneself
then the surrounding people or anyone for that matter. This term came from the greek gods when one
god fell in love with himself through a reflection. Traits are An obvious self focus in interpersonal
exchanges, problems in sustaining satisfying relationships, a lack of psychological awareness, and
difficulty with empathy. This personality disorder is estimated to be in about 1% of the whole
population. Most people just contain narcissistic traits, but the people who really do have Narcissist

The concept of excessive selfishness has been recognized throughout history. In ancient Greece the
concept was understood as hubris. It is only more recently that narcissism has been defined in
psychological terms. Healthy narcissism forms a constant, realistic self interest and mature goals and
principles and an ability to form deep relations to an something. Within psychology, there are two
main branches of research into narcissism: clinical and social psychology. These approaches differ in
their view of narcissism, with the former treating it as a disorder, thus as discrete, and the latter
treating it as a personality trait, thus as a continuum. These two strands of research tend loosely to
stand in a divergent relation to one another, although they converge in places. Self regulation in
narcissists involves such things as striving to make one s self look and feel positive, special,
successful and important. It comes in both intrapsychic, such as blaming a situation rather than self for
failure, and interpersonal forms, such as using a relationship to serve one s own self. Some differences
in self regulation between narcissists and non narcissists can be seen with Campbell, Reeder,

The Staffing Community Of Arkanite
To begin with, I feel I should take part in the staffing community of Arkanite because I ensure a large
portion of qualified time as well as extreme experiences and a sincere inclination in moderating over
the chat and providing the necessary satisfaction to players in need of any particular assistance. I am a
person who shares a natural obligation and heavy dedication to those in need of a correct moderation.
I will be there to help them with confusion/questions for hours worth of time as well! My highest
priority when it comes to staffing is that I focus on most is moderating over servers. I am not really a
person who wants to dedicate themselves to formulating new structures or residing to head to head
combat. I find it more intriguing to supply players with a jubilant sense of feeling from my overall
performance. I would be sure to keep dissonance from progressing to ghastly circumstances. I would
basically focus on the whole idea of my existence to staffing within this community, which is simply
stated by pursuing a largely said portion of time spent on the server, encompassing the chat within a
correctly moderated state, assuring the prosperity of attentiveness to answer all questions to my
highest potential, keeping in touch with other fellow staff about suggestions/ideas/answers, and
securing the server from all egregious irrelevancy.I am also special and different in lots of ways. First

Types Of Natural Disasters
Review of Literature
I.Types of Natural Disasters
On Earth, there are numerous types of natural disasters such as tsunami s, earthquakes, thunderstorms,
tornadoes, etc. Some occur more than other natural disasters, while others cause more destruction than
others. Natural disasters form because of the shifting of earth, the weather, and floods and mudslides.
A.. Most Common Natural Disasters There are some natural disasters that occur more than others.
Some examples of most common natural disasters are Hurricanes and Thunderstorms. Even though
these disasters are more common than others, they can cause more damage.
Hurricanes
Hurricanes are a storm of the most intense severity (dictionary.com). Hurricanes develop when
seawater comes above 80 degrees Fahrenheit (27 degrees celsius). Their winds can increase up to 73
mph (miles per hour). In order for a hurricane to be sustained, they need heat and moisture. Over the
years, there has been hurricanes that were more powerful than others such as Hurricane Irma and
Hurricane Tip. Hurricane Irma struck the northeast caribbean, with wind speeds up to 185mph (miles
per hour). Hurricane Tip, currently the most dynamic hurricane on record, struck in Guam in 1970,
with winds up to 190 mph (miles per hour).
2. Thunderstorms
Thunderstorms are a storm, which can include hail, storm, lighting etc.Thunderstorms are caused
when moist, warm air rises from the earth s surface. The moist, warm air cools as it rises and

Notes On Music And Music
Khalifah Alkhaldi

There is something alluring about traditions. No matter how far away from home one gets, they will
always cherish the manner in which things are done back at home. They retain even the slightest
things that will help them hold on to the past or the way of life that they have left behind. They will
cook or serve food in a certain way because it is their sentimental way of remaining attached what
they were familiar with. This is also the case with my choice of music. I came to study in United
States a while back and I have come to pick up a few things about the way people do things but I am
yet to let go of my old ways. I have come to learn and accept the music that people listen to in this

importance of sitting in a spacious isle side if you cannot see some members of the ensemble?
I made sure to arrive a little bit late so that I could just walk in and settle down after the arrival of the
performing bands without having to sit through the music department s opening speech. I came in just
in time for the commencement of the first piece. I sat and stared at the front at this lady who was
doing a solo performance. I could already tell that the night was only going to pick up from this point.
With her eyes closed and her head swaying with every stroke her hand made, all the people wanted to
do was look at her and share the same calmness that she portrayed. It was as if the world had shut
down leaving her to enjoy the calm state. I envied how she could just forget the world even for a
second and relish in the world she had created. She was just a tip of the amazing things that the night
had in store.
Two flute choirs down the line and I was listening to Celtic music. The traditional music was even

captured my eyes but my full attention. The more I

Outliers, By Malcolm Gladwell
Outliers, a statistical observation that is markedly different in value from the others of the sample.
This basically states that anything that lies outside of the norm is an outlier. In the book Outliers, by
Malcolm Gladwell he focuses on the different set of skills, timing, background, and effort a successful
person needs to have in order to become successful. Unlike most books or biographies that write about
the intelligence and ambition of an individual, this book looks around the individuals, instead of
directly at them. Gladwell look at the outliers of these individuals, and determines how they have
become successful, either by their skill, their luck, their effort, and their whole background and what
lies around them. Gladwell had several ideas he had based people s successes on, one of which were
their skills. He focused on whether a person was capable of being successful in their career path. Not
just their IQ, or their ability to perform a task well, but whether their social skills were also capable or
not. Gladwell states that it is not possible to make it far alone, so he would check to see if an
individual wasn t an awkward loner who excelled in only academically. Gladwell would not only look
at SAT scores and how well they did in school, but look at how creative or innovative an individual
was. Another concept that Gladwell looked at was the timing of their birth, or the importance of their
birth. Gladwell was able to look at the trends and how well one was

Analysis Of Wicca Religion
Wicca is a religion that has existed for hundreds even thousands of years in Europe secretly until fifty
years ago. Wiccan is the practice of witchcraft which was viewed as evil and a sin by many Christians
in Europe. Wicca was outlawed in Europe and many Christians and government officials would
persecute all who practiced witchcraft. It wasn t until 1951 when the parliament repealed the
Witchcraft act of 1735 (Robson, 280) that Wiccans could no longer be prosecuted for their beliefs.
Today, the belief in Wicca is more prominent than before and growing faster than ever. Wicca is a very
nature oriented religion that replicates many indigenous religions. Wicca is also a very equal religion
because it emphasizes equality between men and women.

Eggs Are A Popular Choice
Eggs are a popular choice in countries all around the world as they are low in cost and have no
restrictions within religious beliefs (Miranda, Xaquin, Redondo Valbuena, Roca Saavedra, Rodriguez,
Lamas, Cepeda 2015). A hen starts laying eggs at around eighteen to twenty two weeks old, depending
on the breed of chicken and the time of the year (Jacob, Wilson, Miles, Butcher, and Mather 2015). At
twelve months, old the hens egg laying count declines and they are considered spent leading the hen to
get slaughtered. A hen will lay around three hundred eggs a year depending on environment it is being
raised in. Most people who go into an grocery store are not aware about what the different types of
eggs mean therefore they don t know what they are truly buying and consuming. As a carton of eggs
has a nutrition chart on it, it does not show or describe the living conditions that the hen is being
housed in. I have obtained appropriate information regarding eggs and how they are produced to help
consumers make informed choices. The choices to take into factor are; the type of egg, nutrition,
diseases, cost in stores, and production cost.
Different types of eggs
There are five main egg types that are carried in most grocery stores. These types are based on what
environment the hen is being kept in and what type of fed they are being given. The main
environments in which a hen is being kept is in battery cages, free run, and free range housing
systems. Battery cages or other known

countries do not have are liberties that we take for granted. Being able to write and publish anything

the public to be educated on everything that occurs with their government and for citizens to be

the background the change of atmosphere as it goes from a dark room to a light room with the

new light. The effect of this technique is to show that Ms Gruwell now understands in depth what her

makes the audience challenge their thinking about the lives of students who are living in impoverished
and corrupt environments. This challenges the audience s way of thinking about people and to not pre

A Better Person InThe Alchemist, By Paulo Coelho
Imagine the impact of helping someone when they need it. When you help someone, it can make
someone s day, or make them want to help someone else, including you. Because of this, not only you
feel better but others will want to help you to. Characters who help someone will receive a benefit,
even if they do not know it at the start. In the novel, The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho, Santiago learns,
When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better, too. First, good
came after bad. Next, Santiago helps people who eventually help him. Last, important lessons make
Santiago become a better person.
First, good came after bad. For example, while Santiago is at Tarifa after he is robbed, he meets a
crystal merchant who allows him to clean his shop, which results in him getting a job there. When
they had eaten, the merchant turned to` the boy and said, I d like you to work in my shop. Two
customers came in today while you were working, and that s a good omen (49). Good comes to
Santiago after he goes through the bad. He is robbed, and then he gets offered a job that will pay him,
so he has a chance to regain the money he just lost. Finally, since he still tries to become better, he gets
a job which will help him gain money for the journey. To conclude, Santiago learns that even if
something bad happens, if you still strive to become better, you will be awarded.
Next, Santiago s friends help him become better. To clarify, when Santiago is on the

experience can be displayed through two works of writing Weird Richard , and Welcome to Holland ,

experience not to let peers influence his friendship. Secondly, in the essay Welcome to Holland , the

the important thing is that they haven t taken you to a horrible, disgusting filthy place. It s just

Improving The Mortality And Morbidity Of Cardiovascular...
1. Innovation to improve the mortality and morbidity of cardiovascular disease in developing
countries may involve new surgical procedures, new implants and pacemakers, coronary artery
bypasses, surgical treatments for Atrial fibrillation, repair of congenital heart defects, heart transplants,
aortic arteries repair, replacement or repair of heart valves, and aneurysm repair (Hsieh, Chang, Lee,
Chen, Chan, 2012). Moreover, the innovation involves the integration of computer charting and data
collection. This may involve a computer based data registry that is responsible of storing patient
related data. Developing countries are stepping away from the pen and paper charting system to a
more sophisticated computerized system (Hsieh et al., 2012). This will allow for better tracking and
follow up of complicated cases. Moreover, technological advances in imaging, screening, and
diagnosing methods may also help reduce morbidity and mortality related to cardiovascular disease.
Developing countries are now able to conduct ECG s, stress monitoring, heart changes monitoring,
radiological procedures, and labs that could target specific cardiac markers Hsieh et al., 2012). 2.

Not From Without, But From Within
A fresh, personal, bottom up approach to the women s labor movement in the early 20th century
The article From the Russian Pale to Labor Organizing in New York City written by Annelise Orleck
reveals how the working class immigrant community played a significant role in influencing women s
labor movements in the early twentieth century. Orleck maintains that as a result of their background,
Jewish women had an experience in America different from most women. She posits that since they
did not subscribe to the Victorian ideal of a traditional women s role, Jewish immigrant women were
able to form networks which transcended class, ethnicity, and even gender. Orleck s book is a

Fannia Cohn too had a similar experience. Though she came from a middle class background, Orleck
points out that Cohn ...realized that if [she] wanted to really understand the workers, [she] should
experience the life of a worker in a shop . She took a position in the white goods trade which Orleck
describes as, ...particularly hard to organize . This was a result of the nature of the white goods trade
being run out of small sweatshops where the work required little skill and the workers, most of whom
were under 15 years old, were from a variety of ethnic backgrounds. Therefore Orleck notes, ...it was
difficult for them to communicate with each other, let alone organize . However, with Cohn s
particular set of skills, which included fluency in 3 languages and a high school education, many of
the girls in the shop looked up to her as a mother figure. Using these skills, Cohn and some select
other women began to operate as mentors to the sweat shop girls, providing an education which was
so highly valued in their culture and upbringing, which these girls could not attain though normal
avenues.
By using these examples of the early organizing acumen of the four girls, Orleck cleverly shows the
reader how their tactics began to (slowly) transcend the boundaries of gender and class

William I Bastard Essay
William I of England was a bastard; an utter, utter, utter bastard. And he was illegitimate. Willy spent
his life in pursuit of money and power and ruthlessly attacked anyone who dared stand between him
and either. He caused the deaths of tens of thousands of men, women and children. There isn t much
nice to say about him. Some do say he was faithful to his wife. That s about it. As far as we know he
never played up. He often spent months away from his little woman but he resisted the temptation of
the flesh, and his suit of armour housed a pure and chaste Willy. Wow! They should have made him a

Edward attained sainthood the ultimate non fucking saint.
That s not to say Edward was a saint. As greedy as any other king, he took bribes, and once had a
rebellious Welsh prince killed, and the head delivered to him. That s not very fucking saintly. But not
many saints were saintly. They were more about promoting the Roman Catholic Church as the greatest

Back in the 1800s, women would only get paid around 10 20 cents in a city, but in a smaller town,
they got paid even less. The Garment District in Manhattan, New York was home to a large majority
of sweatshop factories during the 19 20th centuries. One of the most famous sweatshop disaster was
the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire. In this specific factory, the employees who were women,
everyday were locked inside the small, dimly lit, and poorly ventilated building to sew shirtwaists. On
March 25, 1911, just about 150 women died inside the building since they were not able to get out.
Just about a year later, workers in a textile mill in Massachusetts went on strike to show that they were
unhappy with their current pay and that they wanted change. Fast forward to the 1980s, the United
States ended up not being the main manufacturer of goods due to the spread of sweatshops in foreign
countries. In present day, workers are still sitting inside unsafe buildings working for little to no
money just trying to make a living and consumers are buying those things completely unphased by the
fact their products were made by sweatshop

Idiom In The Great Gatsby
The old saying, two steps forward, one step back originates from a Chinese anecdote, illustrating a
frog trying to climb out of a well. Every two steps the frog makes up the wall of the well, he falls back
another, essentially making the process exhausting and seemingly worthless. However, the frog
eventually reaches the top and recognizes that his hard work has paid off. The strenuous process this
idiom captures reflects the realities of the American Dream during the 1920s: a time where people
were encouraged to become successful regardless of their attributes. Although these beliefs promised
beauty and prosperity for all, its idealistic nature compelled individuals to fall short of these standards.

However, the contrast between the very wealthy upper class and the suffering lower class reveals this
progress is an illusion. F. Scott Fitzgerald uses his novel to expose the flaws in the idealistic American
Dream and in doing so, Fitzgerald foreshadows the destructive events following the 1920s. The eyes
of T.J. Eckleburg in the Valley of Ashes are illustrated as seeing the realities of America during the
twenties, alluding to the Great Depression as a result of the wealthy suppressing the poor. However,
although Fitzgerald is able to understand this reality, [he] knows that there is greatness to our country
and our idealism, (Hearne). He encourages individuals to continuously run faster, stretch our arms
farther, demonstrating advancement is necessary and retrogression is normal (Chapter 9). This gradual
process demonstrates the concept of taking two steps forward and one step back eventually humanity

Northern Economy Vs. Southern Economy
In the beginning of the 1800s, it was kind of easy to tell that the North and the South were not alike
since, in the North, slavery was forbidden, while in the South, it was the most important part of the
community. As years passed by, differences became more evolved, especially when the North became
more industrial, and its economy became a market economy. Though the North and South both have
different economies, and different daily lives, they both have similarities. In the North, though there
were still a few small subsistence farms, industrially mass produced products were the base of the
Northern economy. Money was made in this market economy by selling tons of items such as, ...

In the North, people determined how long they worked by a clock. Also, when they worked, they were
paid in wages. So pretty much, payment was determined by the hour. In the South it was different. In
the South, payments were determined by how hard a person worked from sunrise to sunset. If a
Southerner worked hard in his job, they had a higher chance of getting more money than a person who
slacks. For the North, living situations, and the environment isn t the best, when it comes to the
Northern cities. In the cities, safety was really bad because the, ...cities expanded so quickly that
municipal services police departments, fire stations, and sanitation works struggled to keep up. Fire
was an ever present danger in the nation s urban areas. ... Mobs and gangs gathered at local taverns,
where young men sometimes attacked each other or turned their violence against immigrants or
nonwhite people. (City danger) Not only are fires and mobs taking over the city, but disease is too.
With the water pollution from feces and more components of an unclean, over populated environment,
sicknesses came frequently and caused a lot of deaths among the people of the north (Paraphrased
Problems). In the south, the general people s environment was far from city like. Most of the land, due
to the fact that the South was mostly agrarian, was full of continuous farm land. This makes it seem
like the air in the South is much cleaner than the air in the North. Both the north and the south rely on
cotton in their daily lives though, the South relies on cotton as a crop, while the North relies on the

Colonialism and the
African Experience
Virtually everything that has gone wrong in Africa since the advent of independence has been blamed
on the legacies of colonialism. Is that fair? Virtually all colonial powers had
colonial missions. What were these missions and why were they apparently such a disaster? Did any
good come out of the African colonial experience ?
Introduction
Colonization of Africa by European countries was a monumental milestone in

the development of Africa. The Africans consider the impact of colonization

on them to be perhaps the most important factor in nderstanding the u p

Africa, then referred to as the Dark Continent, provided just the right kind of challenge. It held a lot of
mystery for European xplorers, who traveled and e observed and recorded what they saw. Many of
the early explorers of Africa were geographers and scientists who were beckoned by the mysteries and
exotic qualities of this new land. Expeditions of people like Samuel Baker,
Joseph Thompson, Richard Burton, John Speke, and others in the
nineteenth century, conducted in the
name of science and knowledge, served to attract Europeans to Africa. They discovered rivers, lakes,
and mountains.

They studied the African people and wrote about them. Of Prince Henry s exploratory expeditions,

forgetting that he switched rooms with Jens, takes a nap in his old room. Unknown to Miss Sophie,
she enters the room and kisses the person in bed. Moments later, she discovers that the person she

Morten s perception of Miss Sophie. Miss Sophie is no longer the women he imagined her to be and
he is outraged. Shortly after this incident, a maid exposes them and Jens flees. Meanwhile, Miss

Evolution Of Basketball Research Paper
During the nineties, Basketball was probably the sport to watch because of the competition and the
stars. The reason why basketball was at its highest at the time was because of two players, Earvin
Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. They saved the NBA because at the time which was during the
eighties, NBA was not selling a lot of tickets and many people did not tune to watch the games. White
people thought that the league was too black, which meant it was mainly black ball players and not

American President Pros And Cons
I feel that it is extremely important to show the way the president has been behaving or acting because
it is concerning how he likes to talk about banning Muslims from the seven countries like Syria, Iran,

Danger Of Imagination In Atonement By Ian Mcewan
How does McEwan explore the danger of an imagination that can t quite see the boundaries of what is
real and what is unreal ?
Ian McEwan s 2001 metafiction text Atonement explores the danger of an imagination which cannot
differentiate between reality and fantasy. Atonement follows the detrimental effects of Briony Tallis lie
which convicted the innocent Robbie Turner and ultimately destroyed her relationship with Cecilia
Tallis, her older sister. Through innocence, negative consequences, and the significance of the title, Ian
McEwan is able to thoroughly explore the danger of an imagination that can t quite see the boundaries
of what is real and what is unreal.

Ian McEwan uses the letters as a narrative device to catalyse Briony Tallis dangerous imagination in
correlation to the events which follow. There are many letters embedded into the text which are used
to reveal the innermost thoughts of the central characters. McEwan uses parody of Austen s style when
Briony reads in my dreams I kiss your c t. Ian McEwan employs this word to mislead the reader s
belief in Robbie s character. McEwan employs parody of Northanger Abbey to attribute to the
effectiveness of letters, and shock the reader. The use of c t would not be expected in an Austen novel
which presents conservative beliefs in conventional language. Ian McEwan utilises allusion of
Vladimir Nabokov s Lolita to depict the relationship between Paul Marshall and Lola Quincey. The
reader is aware of this allusion through the naming of Lola Quincey, similar to the protagonist of
Lolita. This allusion foreshadows the rape of Lola, Paul is not convicted when Briony claims that she
saw him [Robbie], with her own two eyes. McEwan uses this allusion to portray how Briony s
imagination convinces her that Paul Marshall is innocent while Robbie Turner is the criminal.
Through allusion to Lolita, McEwan suggests to the reader that the novel will be dark and disturbing,
similar to Nabokov s novel and the gothic literature pastiche which McEwan utilises. McEwan is able
to force the reader to consider the dangers of a mind which cannot distinguish real from unreal by
highlighting how falsification from an imaginative mind lead to

The 1960 s was a decade of tremendous social and political upheaval. In the United States, many

Black school children, who were able to attend integrated schools, experienced extreme racial

southern school districts contained both white and black students. (Sitkoff 45) Almost 10% of all
black children were attending school with whites. (Sitkoff 45) The amount of desegregation that

Nevertheless, many conflicts and riots occurred on college campuses when blacks attempted to enroll.
James Howard Meredith was the first African American to attend the University of Mississippi during
the Civil Rights Movement. James Meredith attempted to register in the fall of 1962. (Curry 74)
Because of several violent threats, Meredith was accompanied by federal marshals. State officials tried
to block his entrance to the building. Protest groups formed, and riots broke out, in which two people

University of Mississippi, but federal marshals stayed to protect him until his graduation in 1963.

These early cephalopods, which have shells common in the fossil record, would have spent their lives
bobbing vertically in the water column, bouyed by their shells, and with their tentacles dangling
downward to capture prey. They wouldn t have been particularly mobile that form of a cone hanging
vertically in the water isn t particularly well streamlined for horizontal motion so the next big
innovation was a rotation of the body axis, swiveling the body axis 90° to turn a cone into a torpedo.
There is evidence that many species did this independently.

The tilting of the body axes of extant cephalopods. This was a result of a polyphyletic and repeated
trend towards enhanced manoeuverability. The morphological body axes (anterior posterior, dorso

We can still see vestiges of this rotation in cephalopod embryology. If you look at early embryos of

Gm Foods Persuasive Speech
Good Morning Friends, I m Barnaby Joyce, the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia and the Minister
for Agriculture and Water Resources. As an Australian, a rural Australian, I encourage you to support
our local products, but it is more than patriotism involved here, local products are clean, clear and
most importantly, organic fresh produce. The essence of my speech today is to convey the hidden truth
behind Genetically Modified Foods, more oftenly portrayed as GM Foods. You might be asking; what
is this Genetically Modified Foods, well, Genetically Modified Foods are foods with their genes

Food allergies have skyrocketed, disorders such as autism and diseases in our reproductive and
digestive are also clearly evident. It s been confirmed that GMOs are a contributing factor to all these
illnesses. Why continue eating foods with chemicals injected into them, when we have the availability
as well as the opportunity to enjoy and eat organic fresh produces that s packed with both flavours and
nutrients. Did you know that, GM crops can harm birds, insects, soil organisms, and marine
ecosystems; This might not seem like a BIG DEAL to us at the start, but in reality, it should be:
interrupting the niche of a single organism DEMOLISHES the whole food chain, this means; that it
will be OUR children, that will have to pay the price for what WE have all created during our
generation. There have been fairy tales floating around, saying, GMO S increase yield and help feed a
hungry world. As the deputy prime minister of Australia, I alert you to the fact that, GMOs DO NOT
increase yield, in fact they work AGAINST feeding a hungry world. According to the Australian
Institute of Food Research, NON GM Foods used in developing countries have resulted in yield
increases of more than 80%. ALSO, it is time we understood the fact that, starvation is NOT caused by

  • 2. Suffering In The Screwtape Letter What comes to mind when the word suffering is mentioned? It usually brings up images of pain, hardship, and unpleasantness. However, C. S. Lewis brings new meaning to suffering in The Screwtape Letters. In one of the letters, Screwtape writes to Wormwood about the paradoxial use that God makes of our suffering. By the end of Chapter 8, the reader is left to see that suffering itself can be more powerful than times of ease and happiness in drawing someone closer to God. To begin with, the troughs in life can be more valuable to one s soul than the peaks . In chapter 8, Screwtape tells Wormwood, Now it may surprise you to learn that in His efforts to get permanent possession of a soul, He relies on the troughs even more than on the peaks; ... • 3. Analysis Of Robert Lipsyte s Jock Culture What s the worst that can happen? I think as I push myself into a 10 foot deep pool without any certainty that I would float. This is the manner in which I do things: opening my mouth with no idea of what would happen next, and as one can imagine, this requires a step out of the comfort zone. I tell myself that though I am not the most confident in my abilities, I at least have the courage to begin somewhere. This keeps me motivated to continue putting myself into deep holes and finding my way out along the way. Robert Lipsyte s Jock Culture has helped me to decide what these qualities meant in terms of my place in society. His classification of Jocks: people who were brave, manly, ambitious, focused, patriotic and goal driven and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe in submission to authority, winning by any means necessary and group cohesion, which Lipsyte are the keys to flourishing if one accepts that there are Jocks and Pukes in society. (2) In social settings, I display bravery by initiating conversation. Though this can often cause anxiety, I value meaningful relationships and good vibes so I have accepted that I must initiate in order to get what I want, and over time, I have become more confident in my social skills so it became easier. I am the girl with the bright smile who will greet someone with an enthusiastic hello. Through my experiences, I have realized that socializing makes for a great time, allowing people to laugh, smile and learn new things. So, as a Jock, I have found myself approaching people first upon expecting the best outcome of each encounter, rather than waiting around for something that may never happen, like a Puke. Sometimes it is good to live life on the edge. Although Jocks may live more eventful lives, all that glitters is not gold, meaning that there is a spot for insecurities, some that even affect my performance. One place where I feel most insecure, and like a Puke, is the gymnasium. My childhood experiences can account for my Puke like characteristics considering I had to deal with a limp and hyperhidrosis. According to the doctors, I had a stroke in my mother s womb, which is a result of the very noticeable limp I had to walk with my entire life. Ironically, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Literary Synthesis Essay My choice for consideration of this essay are Edgar Allen Poe s The Purloined Letter and, Katherine Mansfield s The Garden Party . In reading these works I enjoyed the beauty with witch the words flowed, because if often seemed like the writer was using poetry to present their story. The similes and metaphors brought the text to life, and I was able to picture myself alongside one of the characters. Even the use of onomatopoeias made my sense of sound participate in the reading. The diction with which the author chose to have his/her characters speak help me to establish a time period and setting in my mind. All of this helped to create a complete picture of what the writers were trying to convey within their works; however, it was the word choices that made me feel as though literature is not relevant to contemporary society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the sentence But this ascendancy, I interposed, would depend upon the robber s knowledge of the loser s knowledge of the robber. Who would dare (Poe 3), is filled with literary problems for a contemporary society. I had to look up the words interposed and ascendancy in the dictionary. According to dictionary.com, ascendancy means govern or to be the controlling influence; dominance. The word interposed means to put a barriers or obstacle between or in the way of something or someone. Although the use of these types of words were in use during this time period, they are outdated and not in use now. Having to look up the words made the reading less enjoyable. Additionally, in contemporary writing the use of a question mark is expected. In this sentence, Poe elected not to use this punctuation. Today s reader has come to expect a question make at the end of a written question. Lastly, the word knowledge is used twice in one sentence. This repetition made the sentence appear wordy and not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Devil Facial Disease Tasmanian Devil facial cancer disease (DFCD) is a unique contagious cancer, which is transmitted among Devil populations by biting, causing the cancer to present itself in tumours around the oral cavity. The cancer cells have previously been found to be a rogue clonal cell line from a single Devil. Aims The aim of the two research papers was to investigate telomere length in Tasmanian Devils, the Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD), and in closely related marsupials. One of the articles focused on the striking dimorphism between the homologous chromosomes of the Devils, and proposed possible explanations for this, while the other article focused more closely on the telomere length and maintenance in the cancer cells, analysing the expression ... Terminal restriction fragment analysis of the Devil telomeres was used to reveal that non repeat sequences are present between the telomeric repeats in the telomeres of the Devils (Bender et al., 2012). This technique involved the digestion of the DNA with certain restriction enzymes, and the product was then run on an electrophoresis gel. Semi quantitative RT PCR was used in both articles to examine the expression of the catalytic subunit of telomerase in various cells from the Devil in order to detect the presence and activity of telomerase. Additionally a non quantitative telomere repeat amplification protocol (TRAP) was used to detect telomerase activity, this involved the use of PCR and gel electrophoresis in order to visualise the results. ... • 6. Importance of Accountability PV2 Starling, LaTonya Importance of Accountability The importance of accountability and communication in the Military is so each and every personal is all on the same page. Also so our organization runs smooth. Communication is the heart of what makes the United States Army what it is today. Without communication vital information would not be passed down from the Chief of Command to a chain of Non Commissioned Officers to the soldiers. Not to mention, innocent lives would be in jeopardy, missions would be misconstrued, and simple information from NCO to soldier would be conflicted. The smallest amount of information is always imperative. For example, if a soldier goes out over the weekend and doesn t inform anyone of he or she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you always have a hundred percent accountability you will never have any problems like wondering where someone is or like wondering why something missing. If you ever have a problem like that then it is because you are not doing a very good job at keeping track of anything. If someone like that were to be in charge of a large group of people and not know if someone could be missing is not a good way to be leader. That s why being disciplined on it early in your career is important. I understand. One example of being responsible would be to remember to properly PMCS you re vehicle prior to taking it on mission. The responsible thing to do would be to go through every aspect of the PMCS and not taking any shortcuts. If your vehicle were to fail on you while you were outside the wire you could potentially endanger everyone s lives on the entire convoy. As said before responsibility must be used in every part of being a Soldier in the U.S. Army, not just PMCSing a vehicle, responsibility falls under just about every topic such as, waking up with enough time to prepare for your first formation, or mission, being in the proper uniform, and having all of the inspect able items without having to be reminded or helped in any way. The concept of excessive selfishness has been recognized throughout history. In ancient Greece the concept was understood as hubris. It is only more recently that narcissism has been defined in psychological terms. Healthy narcissism forms a constant, realistic self interest and mature goals and principles and an ability to form deep relations to an something. Within psychology, there are two main branches of research into narcissism: clinical and social psychology. These approaches differ in their view of narcissism, with the former treating it as a disorder, thus as discrete, and the latter treating it as a personality trait, thus as a continuum. These two strands of research tend loosely to stand in a divergent relation to one another, although they converge in places. Self regulation in narcissists involves such things as striving to make one s self look and feel positive, special, successful and important. It comes in both intrapsychic, such as blaming a situation rather than self for failure, and interpersonal forms, such as using a relationship to serve one s own self. The Staffing Community Of Arkanite To begin with, I feel I should take part in the staffing community of Arkanite because I ensure a large portion of qualified time as well as extreme experiences and a sincere inclination in moderating over the chat and providing the necessary satisfaction to players in need of any particular assistance. I am a person who shares a natural obligation and heavy dedication to those in need of a correct moderation. I will be there to help them with confusion/questions for hours worth of time as well! My highest priority when it comes to staffing is that I focus on most is moderating over servers. I am not really a person who wants to dedicate themselves to formulating new structures or residing to head to head combat. I find it more intriguing to supply players with a jubilant sense of feeling from my overall performance. I would be sure to keep dissonance from progressing to ghastly circumstances. I would basically focus on the whole idea of my existence to staffing within this community, which is simply stated by pursuing a largely said portion of time spent on the server, encompassing the chat within a correctly moderated state, assuring the prosperity of attentiveness to answer all questions to my highest potential, keeping in touch with other fellow staff about suggestions/ideas/answers, and securing the server from all egregious irrelevancy.I am also special and different in lots of ways. • 10. Notes On Music And Music Khalifah Alkhaldi Music Class 04 15 2017 There is something alluring about traditions. No matter how far away from home one gets, they will always cherish the manner in which things are done back at home. They retain even the slightest things that will help them hold on to the past or the way of life that they have left behind. They will cook or serve food in a certain way because it is their sentimental way of remaining attached what they were familiar with. This is also the case with my choice of music. I came in just in time for the commencement of the first piece. I sat and stared at the front at this lady who was doing a solo performance. I could already tell that the night was only going to pick up from this point. With her eyes closed and her head swaying with every stroke her hand made, all the people wanted to do was look at her and share the same calmness that she portrayed. It was as if the world had shut down leaving her to enjoy the calm state. I envied how she could just forget the world even for a second and relish in the world she had created. She was just a tip of the amazing things that the night had in store. Two flute choirs down the line and I was listening to Celtic music. The traditional music was even better than the music the flute choir played. All along I stared at this young girl sitting close to the leader of the Celtic crue. • 11. Outliers, By Malcolm Gladwell Outliers, a statistical observation that is markedly different in value from the others of the sample. This basically states that anything that lies outside of the norm is an outlier. In the book Outliers, by Malcolm Gladwell he focuses on the different set of skills, timing, background, and effort a successful person needs to have in order to become successful. Unlike most books or biographies that write about the intelligence and ambition of an individual, this book looks around the individuals, instead of directly at them. Gladwell look at the outliers of these individuals, and determines how they have become successful, either by their skill, their luck, their effort, and their whole background and what lies around them. Gladwell had several ideas he had based people s successes on, one of which were their skills. He focused on whether a person was capable of being successful in their career path. Not just their IQ, or their ability to perform a task well, but whether their social skills were also capable or not. Gladwell states that it is not possible to make it far alone, so he would check to see if an individual wasn t an awkward loner who excelled in only academically. Gladwell would not only look at SAT scores and how well they did in school, but look at how creative or innovative an individual was. James Howard Meredith was the first African American to attend the University of Mississippi during the Civil Rights Movement. James Meredith attempted to register in the fall of 1962. (Curry 74) Because of several violent threats, Meredith was accompanied by federal marshals. State officials tried to block his entrance to the building. Protest groups formed, and riots broke out, in which two people were killed. • 35. The Greatest Science Papers That s not hyperbole. I really mean it. How else could I react when I open up the latest issue of Bioessays, and see this: Cephalopod origin and evolution: A congruent picture emerging from fossils, development and molecules. Just from the title alone, I m immediately launched into my happy place: sitting on a rocky beach on the Pacific Northwest coast, enjoying the sea breeze while the my wife serves me a big platter of bacon, and the cannula in my hypothalamus slowly drips a potent cocktail of cocain and ecstasy direct into my pleasure centers...and there s pie for dessert. It s like the authors know me and sat down to concoct a title where every word would push my buttons. The content is pretty good, too. It s not perfect; the ... Freed from its locomotor function, the foot expanded into manipulating tentacles. i a4650a364628b045d3f57a3baf0e7529 monoplacophoran.jpeg These early cephalopods, which have shells common in the fossil record, would have spent their lives bobbing vertically in the water column, bouyed by their shells, and with their tentacles dangling downward to capture prey. They wouldn t have been particularly mobile that form of a cone hanging vertically in the water isn t particularly well streamlined for horizontal motion so the next big innovation was a rotation of the body axis, swiveling the body axis 90° to turn a cone into a torpedo. There is evidence that many species did this independently. i f8e43ceb7154a2f6b4c1b890e7ac4f64 ceph_rotation thumb 500x331 67138.jpeg The tilting of the body axes of extant cephalopods. This was a result of a polyphyletic and repeated trend towards enhanced manoeuverability. The morphological body axes (anterior posterior, dorso ventral) are tilted perpendicularly against functional axes in the transition towards extant cephalopods. We can still see vestiges of this rotation in cephalopod embryology. If you look at early embryos of cephalopods (at the bottom of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Gm Foods Persuasive Speech Good Morning Friends, I m Barnaby Joyce, the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia and the Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources. As an Australian, a rural Australian, I encourage you to support our local products, but it is more than patriotism involved here, local products are clean, clear and most importantly, organic fresh produce. The essence of my speech today is to convey the hidden truth behind Genetically Modified Foods, more oftenly portrayed as GM Foods. You might be asking; what is this Genetically Modified Foods, well, Genetically Modified Foods are foods with their genes altered, in other words, scientists remove genes from the DNA of a particular organism, for example a rat, THEN recombine it with the DNA of the plant they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Food allergies have skyrocketed, disorders such as autism and diseases in our reproductive and digestive are also clearly evident. It s been confirmed that GMOs are a contributing factor to all these illnesses. Why continue eating foods with chemicals injected into them, when we have the availability as well as the opportunity to enjoy and eat organic fresh produces that s packed with both flavours and nutrients. Did you know that, GM crops can harm birds, insects, soil organisms, and marine ecosystems; This might not seem like a BIG DEAL to us at the start, but in reality, it should be: interrupting the niche of a single organism DEMOLISHES the whole food chain, this means; that it will be OUR children, that will have to pay the price for what WE have all created during our generation. There have been fairy tales floating around, saying, GMO S increase yield and help feed a hungry world. As the deputy prime minister of Australia, I alert you to the fact that, GMOs DO NOT increase yield, in fact they work AGAINST feeding a hungry world. According to the Australian Institute of Food Research, NON GM Foods used in developing countries have resulted in yield increases of more than 80%. ALSO, it is time we understood the fact that, starvation is NOT caused by a lack of food! World ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
