Voyeurism In The Gaze
Whether aware or unaware of The Gaze, it is a powerful institution in which the act of looking
becomes a source of relational power. The practice of fixed attention upon something that is appealing
to a viewer or that is the object of the image being viewed. The Gaze is a term made known by
Jacques Lacan, psychoanalyst and theorist. A legend to film theorists, Lacan provided an
understanding of the unconscious desire through the power of images. And how the act of passive
voyeurism merely makes one the subject of the gaze ,in turn, making them the spectator. How the
spectator responds may vary but through the theory of interpellation, we can understand that the object
can also be an active player of The Gaze. Gender visibly falls in to this theory as a major aspect. The
sexual pleasures of looking and being looked at are major parts of human nature, the psychological
effects that they have are a powerful part of how we interact and engage. ... Show more content on

Sexual objectification of women in fine art as well as other various media outlets has been termed as
the male gaze . Laura Mulvey, a femininist, film theorist and architect of the male gaze puts the
spectator as a masculine subject, with the figure of the woman in the image as the object of desire. The
cinema offers a number of possible pleasures. One is scopophilia. There are circumstances in which
looking itself is a source of pleasure, just as, in the reverse formation, there is pleasure in being looked
at. (Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema Pt. 2a By Laura Mulvey) Although Mulvey created this
term within the context of film, It can be used throughout examining all medias of the gaze. Most
depictions of the female in visual arts throughout history have been instructed and painted by men for
the pleasure of men through the practices of looking. With the display of the female physique being an
object of great desire for the pleasure of the male

Figurative Language In William Blake s The Tiger
Martin Bennett
Engl. 102
6/17/17
The Tiger, originally called The Tyger, is a lyric poem focusing on the nature of God and his creations.
It was published in 1794 in a collection entitled Songs of Experience (1). Poetry Essay Outline Thesis:
The Tiger is a poem by William Blake that routines a lot of underlying themes, throughout the writing.
He asks a series of serious queries concerning the nature of God, and why he created the tiger. The
theme of the poem is about God as the creator of good and evil that leads the reader to think.
The strongest literary element in William Blake s poem The Tyger, which is figurative language.
Figurative language can be defined as anything said or written that means something beyond the literal
meaning of the words that are used (2). The initial lines of Blake s poem are chock full of intense
figurative language: Tyger! Tyger! burning bright, In the forests of the night, the tiger is not literally
burning, of course, and this metaphor of fire and burning is carried out through the poem and takes on
all sorts of associations, including an association with the infernal. Allusion also plays an important
role in the poem. Stanza two includes an allusion to Icarus, who in classic myth attempts to fly to the
sun ( ...what wings... ). The allusion mixes with the fire imagery, and the idea that the creator forges
the tiger in fire, like a blacksmith. Stanza five contains an allusion to the fall of Satan from heaven

Motifs In Comic Watchmen
A scar with no pain. Motifs are important in the comic Watchmen because it adds a piece of mystery.
It allows the audiences to be intrigued in figuring out what characters are trying to describe about
themselves in different situations they might find themself. A motif that is seen in the comic
Watchmen is blood and it is seen throughout the book it can imply that time is running. Hurt is not just
implied by something physical but it can be emotional. Every time we saw blood in panels we saw
how there was death surrounding each scene as well as time was running out in each one The blood

White Privilege
Data Analysis Investigation
Introduction
Research Question: Do individuals in the Midwest experience the affects of white privilege?
During this investigation I seek to explore the differences in privilege that males and females, of
different race and ethnic backgrounds, experiences in their daily lives. My fellow Sociology of Race
and Ethics classmates and I will conduct Peggy McIntosh s White Privilege survey, in hopes to find
any differences in privilege felt by individuals of varying age, gender, race or class membership.
My hypothesis is:

Exploring the Data Younger ages (less than 20) have a larger affect than old age in feeling
underprivileged . After analyzing the data, I believe my hypothesis that the ages 18 19 feel
underprivileged as compared to the older ages, was correct. This is represented in the findings, that of
the ten questions surveyed, exactly one half the questions (five of ten) the age group 18 19 had the
highest disagreement percentage compared to the other age groups. No other age group had close to
the equivalent outcomes, the closest age group being groups 24 34 and 45 50 both with two.
The findings show that in one half of all situations this age group is presented with, they feel as
though they are underprivileged as compared to other age groups, but by examining just the 18 19 age
group or age as a whole, the majority feel as though the Agree they are privileged. This finding is
universal through all independent variables. While comparing all independent variables, of the 10
survey scenarios no matter what the independent variable is 70% of the time the participants feel they
Agree to being privileged.
Exploring Data Midwesterners overall feel privileged versus underprivileged no matter the
independent factor.
After analyzing the cross tabulations, I feel as though my hypothesis about the Midwestern society is

Causes Of The Vietnam War An Unpopular War
The Unpopular War
The Vietnam War was the communist government of North Vietnam against South Vietnam at the
beginning. However, this time the United States and the Soviet Union are in the cold war. The United
States helps South Vietnam in order to oppose communism. Then the United States involvement
escalated. This made the United States become the main battle country. The Vietnam War was one of
the most unpopular wars in American history. The Vietnam War was an unpopular war because the
spread of communism to south Vietnam had no direct threat against the US, and we fought the war for
someone else using our men and money, also many civilians died.
The Vietnam War was an unpopular war because the United States has fought a war that does not have
a direct bearing on the United States, it has not only ended in failure but also has not benefited from it.
The Vietnam War was originally a unified war. It was a civil war. It s like the American Civil War. The
United States should not participate in this war, but the United States joined the war and is one of the
main force. Some Americans believed that the Communist threat was used as a scapegoat to hide
imperialistic intentions, while others thought this is an act of interference in the internal affairs of
other countries, during the Vietnam War. That made the Vietnam War become one of the most
unpopular wars in American history.
The United States invested a great deal of money in the Vietnam War. The Department of Defense
(DOD) reports that the United States spent about $168 billion (worth around $950 billion in 2011
dollars) in the entire war. At that rate, the United States spent approximately $168,000 for an enemy
killed. (http://www.vn agentorange.org/edmaterials/cost_of_vn_war.html ) As can be seen from the
data, the United States not only spent a lot of money but also has low efficiency. Inflation in the 1960s
caused great troubles to the U.S. economy. Since 1965, many U.S. troops and equipment have
continuously flowed into the Vietnam battlefield, causing more and more the burden of military
spending in the United States. The Vietnam War intensified the trend of inflation. If the United States
put these money into education or medical care, will have a

No matter how it is judged, a film adaptation owes something to its original i.e., an adaptation of a
novel owes something to that novel. An Adaptation can fall into three categories based on how faithful
it has been in representating the facts and spirit of the novel. a) Borrowing : It is the most frequently
used mode of adaptation . In this case that artist is using a novel s material or ideas and form. In this

Surprisingly for such a religious boy, Pi admires atheists. To him, the important thing is to believe in
something, and Pi can appreciate an atheist s ability to believe in the absence of God with no concrete
proof of that absence. Pi has nothing but disdain, however, for agnostics, who claim that it is
impossible to know either way, and who therefore refrain from making a definitive statement on the
question of God. Pi sees this as evidence of a shameful lack of imagination. To him, agnostics who
cannot make a leap of faith in either direction are like listeners who cannot appreciate the non literal
truth a fictional story might provide.
Belief in God is clearly a major theme in Life of Pi. Throughout the novel, Pi makes his belief in and
love of God clear it is a love profound enough that he can transcend the classical divisions of religion,
and worship as a Hindu, Muslim, and Christian. Pi, although amazed by the possibility of lacking this
belief, still respects the atheist, because he sees him as a kind of believer. Pi s vision of an atheist on
his death bed makes it clear that he assumes the atheist s form of belief is one in God, without his
realizing it until the end. It is the agnostic that truly bothers Pi; the decision to doubt, to lack belief in
anything, is to him inexcusable. This is underscored in that essential passage in the novel when Pi asks

Parallels between Emily Dickinson s 39 and the Biblical...
In one of my favorite poems by Emily Dickinson, 39 or [49] published in 1858, she almost parallels
the life of Job in the Bible who lost all he had, but because he was faithful all of his loss was restored;
I like that there are so many ways to interpret the loss and blame in this very short poem; for example,
her loss could be a loss of possession or a loss of a child because in the sod could refer to either to an
actual plot of land with its crops and the possessions that would come with it or to burying deceased
children; to be a beggar could mean that she is literally poor and landless, which would mean that she
had no way to provide for herself, or that she had no children and prayed for them; when she says that
angels reimbursed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In another one of my favorite poems by Emily Dickinson 1263 or [1129], she subverts expectations by
telling her audience to tell the truth, but to skew it, essentially telling them to lie; she writes on a lot of
Christian themes so no one expects an advocacy of lying to be part of her poems; however I don t
think her purpose is to promote lying; it is more of a revelation that people love the lie, we don t
always really want truth when we ask someone s opinion; often we want our own confirmed; here she
tells us that telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth would

Analysis Of Ibn Haldun And Adam Smith And David Hume And...
It is one of the hardest questions and unfortunately still unknown in the living world in despite of a
myriad of academic studies. Many scholars from all around world asked this magic question in
different time over the history. From Ibn Haldun and Adam Smith to David Hume and Karl Marx,
from Alfred Marshall and Robert Solow to Paul Romer and Daron Acemoglu, there have been so
many prominent and distinguished scholars who tried to find an answer to this question in order to
understand the world better and some of them are still trying to find a fully satisfactory answer about
this one of the most interesting and challenging areas in academic studies. Here is an example of one
the answer to show that it is old question. Ibn Khaldun gave his account of the stages of economic
development, from nomadic to agricultural to more cooperation in economic matters which occur
through an expansion of a town to a city, where demand increases and skilled labor congregates and
expands production both ill quantity and in refinement. Economic growth continues so long as there is
an extra effort, which creates capital accumulation, which in turn, combined with effort, leads to more
production and the development of crafts in the cities. Wealth expands through labor and its efforts,
whereas with less human effort there may occur a reversal to stagnation, followed by a downward
trend in people s standard of living. (I.W. Oweiss). Needless to say, it would be too much to explain

Dakota Pipeline Case Study
Dakota Pipeline Issue Since July of 2016, there has been an extensive amount of tension between
protesters and law enforcement over an oil pipeline near the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. The
Dakota access pipeline is a 3.7 billion investment project that would carry 470,000 barrels of oil a day
from the oil fields of western North Dakota to Patoka, Illinois. The Dakota access pipeline is a stirring
issue and is causing thousands protesters to camp out in rural North Dakota to protest for what they
believe. The Dakota access pipeline is to be built by Texas energy transfer partners to move a massive
amount of crude oil a day. This pipeline is 1,172 miles long, thirty inches in diameter. It will connect

Web Architecture And Components That Enable Internet And...
Unit 28 Website Production Assignment 1
Alex Aricci 2nd October 2014
P1
Introduction
The purpose of this report is to outline the web architecture and components that enable internet and
web functionality.
Internet Service Providers (ISP)
ISPs are the companies which own or rent the infrastructure which provides internet access to its
customers for a fee. ISPs often offer different services at different price points with more expensive
ones often having higher bandwidth and download limits (or no download limits at all) as well as
sometimes providing phone and digital TV services (for instance, Sky, Virgin, BT) although available
services vary locally due to differences in infrastructure.
Web Hosting Services
Web hosting services provide space and bandwidth on the internet for people to make their websites
available online. When a web page is requested the web host sends a web page to someone trying to
access it via a server.
Domain Structure
The Domain Name system is a system on the internet used to translate IP addresses (long string of
numbers that describe the location of a resource on the internet) into recognisable names, this makes it
easier for humans to navigate the internet as it is much easier to remember the name of a website than
to remember its I.P. address. It is a hierarchical system that points users to various resources,
computers or services on the internet, such as images or videos.

The hegemony and the de facto leader, Putin himself, their roles and official titles: President, Prime
Minister and Democracy are facades. Breaking traditions that don t hold place within the structure of
communism, a facet of Marxism. Ultimately, this has induced the institution to further the already
dominant. Because of this, a residual effect has ensued and the dominant which had initially become
less homophobic on the surface with old laws being scrapped, has actually regressed back to more
antiquated views. At present, manipulating the already manipulated people of these preposterous and
offensive views on homosexuality, Putin is not only creating an emergent society but simply
furthering from what was already the dominant. Cultural Materialism as a lens to analysis said topic is
interesting as it stems from the very founders of the social and governmental system that even still
guides and effects Russia today. Being an aspect of each other, Marxism and Communism can t exist
without each other which creates intellectual isochronism as you re not able to deviate much, as by
virtue both theoretical perspectives and topic are at the core being driven by indistinguishable areas of

Prosocial Behavior Paper
Influences on Children s Prosocial Behavior
Prosocial behavior is important to psychologists because it is a significant part of development in a
child. Children learn prosocial behavior from many influences in their lives including parents, peers,
teachers, caregivers, and the media (Williams, O Driscoll, Moore, 2014). Prosocial behavior is any
action intended to help others. Children learn their earliest behaviors from their parents. If a child
never participated in prosocial behavior, there would be negative impacts. Some negative impacts
could include: less likelihood to develop a sense of gratitude, less involvement with others, and

Prior studies have shown that mimicking promotes prosocial actions, but little research has been done
on who has a greater influence on prosocial behavior in children. The independent variable of the
study will be which adult model is shown in the video of prosocial behavior, either a parent as a
model, and other adult as a model. Each child will be assigned to watch one of two types of videos in
which a parent or an other adult performs a prosocial action. The dependent variable for this study
would be the behavior of the child. The dependent variable will be measured by the amount of time
the child takes to act prosocially. In the control condition, the participants will not be shown a video
and they will just be placed in the possible prosocial situation. The experiment will observe which
adult model has the greatest influence of prosocial behavior in the participants. The hypothesis of the

more likely to behave in a prosocial manner. This hypothesis comes from a finding that parents have a

Trombone History
The trombone has a long, rich history dating back to the 1440s when it was introduced as a sackbut.
Throughout its history, the trombone hasn t had many significant changes in construction, but the
number of types of music that the trombone can play has rapidly increased. From Leopold Mozart to
Joseph Alessi, there have been many people who have had influence and power of the instrument.
This essay will explain the history of the trombone, features of the trombone, and last my perception
of the trombone. As stated earlier, a variation of the trombone was invented in the 1440s called the
sackbut. In comparison to the trombone, the sackbut is has a much smaller bell measuring just over
five inches. It was created by Flemish makers who supplied them to the court of Burgundy. Sackbuts
were built on the idea of the slide trumpet, and the main difference was is that it had a double slide
just like the modern trombone. People wanted a more powerful and fuller sound, so they tweaked the
slide trumpet and called the it the sackbut. It was first used to play in alto capalla wind bands in order
to play courtly dance music. This was just the start of the long history of the trombone, and would
soon blossom. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Orchard The right vehicle for this very original usage of the bucket truck is probably pretty simple,
basically requiring that the boom be sufficiently long to reach the top height from which the fruit will
be harvested. One option to consider would be if you want the worker to be able to operate from the
bucket to move from one part of the tree to another since such control can be done either from inside
or outside of the bucket.
Electrical and communications industry Electrical services use bucket trucks to repair electric lines as
do workers in the fields of telephone and cable. Needs for these industries would include one or two
person buckets made of non conductive material; customized containers or compartments to store
necessary tools; booms sufficiently long to reach the tallest operating heights; and controls that suit

throughout the years has been that people on welfare will never attempt to find a job and just live off

Esterification Lab
A Fischer esterification reaction was used in the first part of this lab to convert an unknown alcohol
into an ester through the help of microscale reflux, which was later identified using GC, micro boiling
point, and IR spectroscopy. In this type of reaction, an alcohol is reacted with a carboxylic acid, and is
driven by a strong acid catalysis to yield ester and water. To obtain a good yield of the ester produced,

By using the technique of reflux, the reaction was allowed to heat for a long period of time, where the
vapors from the boil are cooled by the water flow and condensed back into the vial, allowing for a
constant temperature. Micro boiling point allows for the measuring of a liquid compounds boiling
point through the usage of the Mel Temp. The heating of the sample will release air bubbles inside of
the inverted bell, which will fill with the vapor from the sample, when the heat is turned off and the
last bubble exits the bell, the atmospheric pressure is equal to the vapor pressure of the sample, giving
the boiling point, which can help identify a sample. IR spectroscopy measures the IR absorbance of a
compound, and because each functional group has unlike IR absorbance, they can be used to identify a
compound. Gas chromatography evaporates a sample and separates it using a carrier gas, which
reaches the detector giving out a retention time. Different compounds have different retention times,
so when the GC of an unknown is compared to a known standard, the sample can be identified. In
viscosity determination, the time it takes for a compound to flow from one mark to another in a
pasteur pipette, is compared to the time it takes for another compound, which divided give the relative
viscosity of the

Developing A Theory Of Information Science Research
Developing a Theory in Information Science Research: A Review of Experts Advice
Abstract
Despite the growing number of theories within the field of information science, it still remains a
difficult task for some emerging scholars in the field to clearly articulate the development of new
theories from research studies. This paper reviewed and collated the different views of scholars on
what a theory is and how a good theory can be developed. It explains the concept of a theory and the
different components that make up a theory. The paper discusses the different processes of theory
development by emphasizing what theory is and what theory is not. This review found that scholars
differ in their definition of a theory, which led to using terms such as model, paradigm, framework and
theory interchangeably. It found the lack of theoretical construct in a study to be one of the factors
why articles are rejected for publication. It pointed that producing a paper that contributes to theory
rests on the ability of scholars to develop original and new ideas that bring something insightful into
scholarship, which can be applied to bring about fresh thinking. This paper may be of benefit to
researchers, especially younger academics who are the future of scholarship in the field of information
science and other disciplines.
Introduction
Studies with strong theoretical perspectives are often regarded as adding value to any field of learning.
It is therefore essential for scholars

influence on music in the Lutheran Church at the beginning of the Reformation. Loewe claims that
regarding Luther s passion for music, he was not only a skilled musician, but he strongly believed that

When the message was sung, it was often about Reformation principles, however he also used them to
comment on the current times. One of his first hymns, Ein Newes Lied , was written in response to the
martyrdom of two young men who were considered lutherans by the Catholic Church. All of these
hymns were spread through word of mouth, letter, and broadsheet, even through areas that were still
solidly Catholic. Their inclusion into the Protestant worship service was a mark of profound change
for the church. They were regularly sung before the service multiple times, even before Catholic
services. This caused such a disturbance in the Catholic Church that the primary distributor of the
hymns was imprisoned, however this in turn caused such an uproar that six to eight hundred people

Persuasive Essay On Snow Leopards
Endangered species is a quandary to an ecosystem in an environment. The snow leopard is an animal
that has been endangered since 1972. They are endangered for the most common reasons such as
being hunted for fur but also for more effective reasons for the peopleof the snow leopard s habitat,
central Asia. The snow leopard is at an advantage of being at thetop of the food chain, but their food
source is beginning to take a toll as that is being hunted as well. Regardless of endangering factors to
the snow leopard, any contingencies have to becontemplated to save what s left of the population. The
snow leopard is a panthera uncia whose conservation status is endangered. Therationale for this
predicament is that it is quite conventional for hunters in central Asia to hunt these animals for their
fur. Hunting for fur is the most frequent vindication for a species to go endangered; however, now
leopards have another reason to be hunted and that is for their organs, bones, and skin. These
circumstances are more advantageous for Asian medicines.Hunting is not only a concern for the snow
leopard but also to livestock such as sheep and goats. However, these hunts are a key component to
snow leopards because these animals are what snow leopards prey on. With a viable food source being
withdrawn from a habitat, the snow leopards are found to be desperate for a food source. Snow
leopards are in an onerous condition if the hunts continue and their food source is being extracted. The
endangerment of the snow leopard not only lies on the foundation of excessive hunts and food
removal but also in the uncontrollable ecosystem transformations. Snow leopards are found in the
mountainous terrain of central Asia. Normally they live 3,000 and 5,400 meters aloft sea level.
However, if the latitude is lower, for say 1,000 meters above sea level then climates are instituted to be
cold and dry letting a limited amount of vegetation, grass or shrubs, to grow, which only grow in
vertiginous inclinations of the mountains. Snow leopards will habitually appoint subdued terrains,
escarpments, or ravines. This ecosystem may be at a lost, though, as global climate changes an

Luther s Father Stand Alone Summary
To provide an overview of what the Allotment Policy was, it was also known as the Dawes Act. As
mentioned within class discussions, it was named after Senator Henry Dawes. This policy allowed
Indian people to receive a portion of land. Indian tribal land would be divided into small sections or
allotments. These would be for Indian families or individuals. When it comes to how many acres will
be provided, it all depends on who it is. The amount of land granted to each family is 160 acres. On
the other hand, 80 acres will be given per individual. Orphans who are under 18 years of age, can only
receive half of the land an individual would get. In that case, they receive 40 acres. Once the allotment

Some tribes may include the Cherokee and Hopi. According to our class lectures, there was an outrage
due to the allotments. The Cherokee who are from Oklahoma, expressed their thoughts in front of
Congress. Due to the strategy used when it came to the Allotment Policy, the land was difficult to farm
on. In class we had discussed how the profits of all the corn produced would only make a slight dent
within debt. As a result of bad crops growing, the debt started to accumulate. It was thought that the
entire system was rigged. The allotments became a checkerboard. The meaning behind the term
checkerboard, is that Indian families or individuals were becoming surrounded by White settlers who
claimed open land. The goal of the checkerboard was to break up the Native American communities.
Not to forget, the Hopi had petitioned that they needed more land due to infertility of the soil.
Although they tried to voice their opinions, feedback or answers were never given back. Eventually,

well as presentation skills. We also learned how to analyse the posters in a written format so that a

Subject: Role of Internal Audit
It has come to my attention that the role of internal audit is not clear to some members of the
organization outside the finance department. Therefore, it was decided that a memo is written to
explain clearly the role of internal audit.
Internal auditing is an independent, objective assurance and consulting function intended to add value
and improve an organization s operations. The audit function can help an organization to achieve
objectives by evaluating an organizations risk management, control and governance processes to help
improve them.
Internal auditors (IA) assess how well risks are being managed in an organization, how the
organization is being governed and how well internal control systems and processes are working.
They report their findings to senior management, highlighting and advising management where
improvements in systems controls and processes are necessary.
By evaluating an organization s risk management and assisting management in improvement of
internal controls, IA s help management to clearly show stakeholders that they are managing the
organization well.
Different from external auditors, IA s work within an organization and their work can vary depending
on the business requirements. They do not only look at financial risks and statements but at a range of
issues that are key to a company s survival

Nationalism In Australia Essay
Nationalism can be both positively and negatively influential when shaping a view of the world. It
excludes and includes, builds and tears down nations and creates and breaks relations with other
nations. Nationalism is a constant issue throughout history and is more identifiable today than
previously. The most common examples of Nationalism generally refer to the negative representations
such as demonstrations against immigration or politicians arguing for the removal or prevention of
immigrants entering into the country. Nationalism whether it is positive or negative is still relevant in
both national and international politics.

The White Working Class That Caused These Problems
Was it really the White working class that caused these problems? Or was it the companies that
outsourced their jobs overseas? The white working class are also known as the hillbillies. They are
people who have gone through a lot of suffering but also have made a lot problems on their own.
While I definitely think that it is up to the former White working class to dig themselves out, I m
unsure that they re the ones responsible for this mess. Loosing their jobs to outsourcing and loosing
their sense of hope has led them to follow Donald Trump s campaign because he sympathizes with
them and promises them economic and social changes. These families have struggled with poverty,
domestic violence, drugs, and unemployment. One of those families was J.D. Vance s family. Vance
grew up in the Rust Belt of Ohio, into a struggling, poor, abusive family. Vance escaped his hardships
by enrolling into the Military and going to school. However, other people weren t as lucky as he was
to get out, other families were still stuck in Hillbilly Middletown. Things were going good for these
families until the 1970s and 1980s came along. This is when things took a toll, industrial jobs were
cut, causing a down ward spiral for everyone in Ohio. This is when the alcoholism, drug use, and
domestic violence became a norm. For about a century, the region seemed to be on a upward spiral.
Middletown s streets today are full of shuttered storefronts and drug dealers, (Rothman,New Yorker).

Gambling legalization for a promising future Gambling is the act of playing for stakes in the hope of
winning (including the payment of a price for a chance to win a prize). (Oxford dictionary) Many have
their own opinions about gambling and at this time gambling is not legally practiced here in The
Bahamas. Such a move would bring an end to an illicit industry that makes tens of millions of dollars

Gambling industry, including the land based casinos as well as the Online casinos, puts gambling

What Is Nietzsche s Response To Modernism
In 1882, German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche declared, God is dead! God remains dead! And we
have killed him (120). Modern thought and its scientific basis rejected the existence or need of any
God, religion, or their accompanying belief in absolute, objective morality. This rejection of the divine
preoccupies a greater segment of the population after Nietzsche s death as humanity seeks redemption
from the atrocities of two world wars. However, rejection of God and religion removes the healing
potential of faith, resulting in a modern society yearning for meaning among the ashes of Europe s
dead. No answer presents itself easily, but one of modernism s philosophical responses reveals itself in
the devastation. As Wylie Sypher surmised, we have lived amid the dust and crashes of the twentieth
century and have learned how the direst calamities that befall man seem to prove that human life at ...

Cardiac Cycle Research Paper
The cardiac cycle describes the series of events that take place in the heart over the duration of one
heart beat
▪ It is comprised of a period of contraction (systole) and relaxation (diastole)
Systole
▪ Blood returning to the heart will freely flow from the atria to the ventricles as the AV valves kept
open by the pressure in the atria
▪ The sinoatrial node (pacemaker) receives signals to fire when the ventricles are almost full (~70%)
▪ The contraction of the atria (atrial systole) causes blood to fill the ventricles to the maximum
▪ The signal from the SA node is transferred to the AV node and then via Purkinje fibres to cause the
delayed contraction of the ventricles
▪ As the ventricles contract, the increase of pressure in the ventricles closes the AV valves, causing the

Diastole
▪ The increased pressure causes the semilunar valves to open and blood to flow away from the heart
▪ As the blood flows into the arteries, the pressure falls in the ventricles
▪ This causes some arterial back flow, which closes the semilunar valves and causes the second heart
sound ( dub )
When the pressure in the ventricle drops below the pressure in the atria the AV valves open and the
cardiac cycle can repeat
▪ The contraction of the heart tissue (myocardium) is myogenic, meaning the signal for cardial
contraction arises within the heart muscle itself
▪ Within the wall of the right atrium are a specialised plexus of nerves called the sinoatrial node (SAN)
▪ The sinoatrial node initiates contraction of the cardiace muscle and acts as a pacemaker, regulating
normal sinus rhythm
▪ It stimulates atria to contract and, when excitation reaches the junction between atria and ventricles,
stimulates another node (atrioventicular node)
▪ The atrioventricular node (AVN) sends signals via the Bundle of His to Purkinje fibres, which cause
ventricular contraction This sequence always ensures their is a delay between atrial and ventricular

total of 20 different peer reviewed publications were selected for data extraction and review. Inclusion
and exclusion criteria was determined to select articles that applied only to women with breast cancer,
or a history of breast cancer, over the age of 35 utilizing yoga and acupuncture as forms of
complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Results Although this systematic review provides a
wide range of sample populations and study designs, all studies provided a positive outcome from
patients using these forms of CAM. Reduced fatigue and depression as well as increased quality of life
was seen throughout all studies and reviews. Conclusion The researchers concluded that reviewed data

  • 3. Voyeurism In The Gaze Whether aware or unaware of The Gaze, it is a powerful institution in which the act of looking becomes a source of relational power. The practice of fixed attention upon something that is appealing to a viewer or that is the object of the image being viewed. The Gaze is a term made known by Jacques Lacan, psychoanalyst and theorist. A legend to film theorists, Lacan provided an understanding of the unconscious desire through the power of images. Poetry Essay Outline Thesis: The Tiger is a poem by William Blake that routines a lot of underlying themes, throughout the writing. The strongest literary element in William Blake s poem The Tyger, which is figurative language. Figurative language can be defined as anything said or written that means something beyond the literal meaning of the words that are used (2). The initial lines of Blake s poem are chock full of intense figurative language: Tyger! Tyger! burning bright, In the forests of the night, the tiger is not literally burning, of course, and this metaphor of fire and burning is carried out through the poem and takes on all sorts of associations, including an association with the infernal. Allusion also plays an important role in the poem. Stanza two includes an allusion to Icarus, who in classic myth attempts to fly to the sun ( ...what wings... ). After analyzing the data, I believe my hypothesis that the ages 18 19 feel underprivileged as compared to the older ages, was correct. This is represented in the findings, that of the ten questions surveyed, exactly one half the questions (five of ten) the age group 18 19 had the highest disagreement percentage compared to the other age groups. No other age group had close to the equivalent outcomes, the closest age group being groups 24 34 and 45 50 both with two. • 7. Causes Of The Vietnam War An Unpopular War The Unpopular War The Vietnam War was the communist government of North Vietnam against South Vietnam at the beginning. However, this time the United States and the Soviet Union are in the cold war. The United States helps South Vietnam in order to oppose communism. Then the United States involvement escalated. This made the United States become the main battle country. The Vietnam War was one of the most unpopular wars in American history. The Vietnam War was an unpopular war because the spread of communism to south Vietnam had no direct threat against the US, and we fought the war for someone else using our men and money, also many civilians died. The Vietnam War was an unpopular war because the United States has fought a war that does not have a direct bearing on the United States, it has not only ended in failure but also has not benefited from it. The Vietnam War was originally a unified war. It was a civil war. It s like the American Civil War. The United States should not participate in this war, but the United States joined the war and is one of the main force. Some Americans believed that the Communist threat was used as a scapegoat to hide imperialistic intentions, while others thought this is an act of interference in the internal affairs of other countries, during the Vietnam War. That made the Vietnam War become one of the most unpopular wars in American history. The United States invested a great deal of money in the Vietnam War. The Department of Defense (DOD) reports that the United States spent about $168 billion (worth around $950 billion in 2011 dollars) in the entire war. At that rate, the United States spent approximately $168,000 for an enemy killed. (http://www.vn agentorange.org/edmaterials/cost_of_vn_war.html ) As can be seen from the data, the United States not only spent a lot of money but also has low efficiency. Inflation in the 1960s caused great troubles to the U.S. economy. Since 1965, many U.S. troops and equipment have continuously flowed into the Vietnam battlefield, causing more and more the burden of military spending in the United States. The Vietnam War intensified the trend of inflation. If the United States put these money into education or medical care, will have a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Surprisingly for such a religious boy, Pi admires atheists. To him, the important thing is to believe in something, and Pi can appreciate an atheist s ability to believe in the absence of God with no concrete proof of that absence. Pi has nothing but disdain, however, for agnostics, who claim that it is impossible to know either way, and who therefore refrain from making a definitive statement on the question of God. Pi sees this as evidence of a shameful lack of imagination. To him, agnostics who cannot make a leap of faith in either direction are like listeners who cannot appreciate the non literal truth a fictional story might provide. Belief in God is clearly a major theme in Life of Pi. Throughout the novel, Pi makes his belief in and love of God clear it is a love profound enough that he can transcend the classical divisions of religion, and worship as a Hindu, Muslim, and Christian. Pi, although amazed by the possibility of lacking this belief, still respects the atheist, because he sees him as a kind of believer. Pi s vision of an atheist on his death bed makes it clear that he assumes the atheist s form of belief is one in God, without his realizing it until the end. In one of my favorite poems by Emily Dickinson, 39 or [49] published in 1858, she almost parallels the life of Job in the Bible who lost all he had, but because he was faithful all of his loss was restored; I like that there are so many ways to interpret the loss and blame in this very short poem; for example, her loss could be a loss of possession or a loss of a child because in the sod could refer to either to an actual plot of land with its crops and the possessions that would come with it or to burying deceased children; to be a beggar could mean that she is literally poor and landless, which would mean that she had no way to provide for herself, or that she had no children and prayed for them; when she says that angels reimbursed ... Here is an example of one the answer to show that it is old question. Ibn Khaldun gave his account of the stages of economic development, from nomadic to agricultural to more cooperation in economic matters which occur through an expansion of a town to a city, where demand increases and skilled labor congregates and expands production both ill quantity and in refinement. Economic growth continues so long as there is an extra effort, which creates capital accumulation, which in turn, combined with effort, leads to more production and the development of crafts in the cities. Wealth expands through labor and its efforts, whereas with less human effort there may occur a reversal to stagnation, followed by a downward trend in people s standard of living. (I.W. Oweiss). • 13. Web Architecture And Components That Enable Internet And... Unit 28 Website Production Assignment 1 Alex Aricci 2nd October 2014 P1 Introduction The purpose of this report is to outline the web architecture and components that enable internet and web functionality. Internet Service Providers (ISP) ISPs are the companies which own or rent the infrastructure which provides internet access to its customers for a fee. ISPs often offer different services at different price points with more expensive ones often having higher bandwidth and download limits (or no download limits at all) as well as sometimes providing phone and digital TV services (for instance, Sky, Virgin, BT) although available services vary locally due to differences in infrastructure. Web Hosting Services Web hosting services provide space and bandwidth on the internet for people to make their websites available online. When a web page is requested the web host sends a web page to someone trying to access it via a server. Domain Structure The Domain Name system is a system on the internet used to translate IP addresses (long string of numbers that describe the location of a resource on the internet) into recognisable names, this makes it easier for humans to navigate the internet as it is much easier to remember the name of a website than to remember its I.P. address. It is a hierarchical system that points users to various resources, computers or services on the internet, such as images or videos. Domain Name Registrars Domain Name Registrars allow ... Sackbuts were built on the idea of the slide trumpet, and the main difference was is that it had a double slide just like the modern trombone. People wanted a more powerful and fuller sound, so they tweaked the slide trumpet and called the it the sackbut. This paper reviewed and collated the different views of scholars on what a theory is and how a good theory can be developed. It explains the concept of a theory and the different components that make up a theory. The paper discusses the different processes of theory development by emphasizing what theory is and what theory is not. This review found that scholars differ in their definition of a theory, which led to using terms such as model, paradigm, framework and theory interchangeably. It found the lack of theoretical construct in a study to be one of the factors why articles are rejected for publication. It pointed that producing a paper that contributes to theory rests on the ability of scholars to develop original and new ideas that bring something insightful into scholarship, which can be applied to bring about fresh thinking. • 26. Persuasive Essay On Snow Leopards Endangered species is a quandary to an ecosystem in an environment. The snow leopard is an animal that has been endangered since 1972. They are endangered for the most common reasons such as being hunted for fur but also for more effective reasons for the peopleof the snow leopard s habitat, central Asia. The snow leopard is at an advantage of being at thetop of the food chain, but their food source is beginning to take a toll as that is being hunted as well. Regardless of endangering factors to the snow leopard, any contingencies have to becontemplated to save what s left of the population. The snow leopard is a panthera uncia whose conservation status is endangered. Therationale for this predicament is that it is quite conventional for hunters in central Asia to hunt these animals for their fur. Hunting for fur is the most frequent vindication for a species to go endangered; however, now leopards have another reason to be hunted and that is for their organs, bones, and skin. These circumstances are more advantageous for Asian medicines.Hunting is not only a concern for the snow leopard but also to livestock such as sheep and goats. However, these hunts are a key component to snow leopards because these animals are what snow leopards prey on. With a viable food source being withdrawn from a habitat, the snow leopards are found to be desperate for a food source. Snow leopards are in an onerous condition if the hunts continue and their food source is being extracted. The endangerment of the snow leopard not only lies on the foundation of excessive hunts and food removal but also in the uncontrollable ecosystem transformations. Snow leopards are found in the mountainous terrain of central Asia. Normally they live 3,000 and 5,400 meters aloft sea level. However, if the latitude is lower, for say 1,000 meters above sea level then climates are instituted to be cold and dry letting a limited amount of vegetation, grass or shrubs, to grow, which only grow in vertiginous inclinations of the mountains. Snow leopards will habitually appoint subdued terrains, escarpments, or ravines. This ecosystem may be at a lost, though, as global climate changes an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As mentioned within class discussions, it was named after Senator Henry Dawes. This policy allowed Indian people to receive a portion of land. Indian tribal land would be divided into small sections or allotments. These would be for Indian families or individuals. When it comes to how many acres will be provided, it all depends on who it is. The amount of land granted to each family is 160 acres. On the other hand, 80 acres will be given per individual. Orphans who are under 18 years of age, can only receive half of the land an individual would get. In that case, they receive 40 acres. According to our class lectures, there was an outrage due to the allotments. The Cherokee who are from Oklahoma, expressed their thoughts in front of Congress. Due to the strategy used when it came to the Allotment Policy, the land was difficult to farm on. In class we had discussed how the profits of all the corn produced would only make a slight dent within debt. As a result of bad crops growing, the debt started to accumulate. It was thought that the entire system was rigged. The allotments became a checkerboard. The meaning behind the term checkerboard, is that Indian families or individuals were becoming surrounded by White settlers who claimed open land. The goal of the checkerboard was to break up the Native American communities. Not to forget, the Hopi had petitioned that they needed more land due to infertility of the soil. MEMO To: Non accounting specialists From: Miriam Lombe, Junior Accountant Cc: Finance Director Date: 15/12/2014 Subject: Role of Internal Audit It has come to my attention that the role of internal audit is not clear to some members of the organization outside the finance department. Therefore, it was decided that a memo is written to explain clearly the role of internal audit. Internal auditing is an independent, objective assurance and consulting function intended to add value and improve an organization s operations. The audit function can help an organization to achieve objectives by evaluating an organizations risk management, control and governance processes to help improve them. Internal auditors (IA) assess how well risks are being managed in an organization, how the organization is being governed and how well internal control systems and processes are working. They report their findings to senior management, highlighting and advising management where improvements in systems controls and processes are necessary. By evaluating an organization s risk management and assisting management in improvement of internal controls, IA s help management to clearly show stakeholders that they are managing the organization well. Different from external auditors, IA s work within an organization and their work can vary depending on the business requirements. They do not only look at financial risks and statements but at a range of issues that are key to a company s survival ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The white working class are also known as the hillbillies. They are people who have gone through a lot of suffering but also have made a lot problems on their own. While I definitely think that it is up to the former White working class to dig themselves out, I m unsure that they re the ones responsible for this mess. Loosing their jobs to outsourcing and loosing their sense of hope has led them to follow Donald Trump s campaign because he sympathizes with them and promises them economic and social changes. These families have struggled with poverty, domestic violence, drugs, and unemployment. One of those families was J.D. Vance s family. Vance grew up in the Rust Belt of Ohio, into a struggling, poor, abusive family. Vance escaped his hardships by enrolling into the Military and going to school. However, other people weren t as lucky as he was to get out, other families were still stuck in Hillbilly Middletown. Things were going good for these families until the 1970s and 1980s came along. This is when things took a toll, industrial jobs were cut, causing a down ward spiral for everyone in Ohio. This is when the alcoholism, drug use, and domestic violence became a norm. • 34. What Is Nietzsche s Response To Modernism In 1882, German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche declared, God is dead! God remains dead! And we have killed him (120). Modern thought and its scientific basis rejected the existence or need of any God, religion, or their accompanying belief in absolute, objective morality. This rejection of the divine preoccupies a greater segment of the population after Nietzsche s death as humanity seeks redemption from the atrocities of two world wars. However, rejection of God and religion removes the healing potential of faith, resulting in a modern society yearning for meaning among the ashes of Europe s dead.
