Themes Of Japan s Indigenous Religion
THEMES
Japan s indigenous religion is ShintЕЌ, and its customs are enmeshed in Japanese culture. It is
animistic, seeing gods and spirits in everything. This leads to a deep respect for human harmony
with the environment. Many Ghibli films contain jinja, or shrines, and torii, or sacred gates, which
are used to pay respect or give offerings in ShintЕЌism. Ghibli films also contain kami, spirits that
reside in all things. Princess Mononoke is filled with a kami (Odell 28).
Other Japanese mythology is seen through Miyazaki films through spirits that have the ability to
transform their shape, such as the foxes and raccoons in Pom Poko. Buddhism also influences
Miyazaki films. Dragons derive from Buddhist legends and are in Spirited Away. Buddhist statues
are also seen in My Neighbor Totoro, and Pom Poko (Odell 28). All of his movies contain variations
of spirits, demons, or fantastical creatures rooted in nature. There is a balance of empathy through
his human elements, but mystery in his fantasy elements.
One major theme that runs through all Miyazaki films is environmentalism, or how mankind
interacts with nature. This is closely linked with the ShintЕЌ ethic that sees the environment as
interconnected beings that deserve respect. In Princess Mononoke, the center of the plot is focused
on the conflict between humans destroying the forest and the gods and spirits who are fighting
back. In Ponyo, the dumping of waste is almost her downfall right at the beginning of the movie

The Cask Of Amontillado Short Story Analysis
Brissa Martinez
ENGL 1302 001
Short story analysis
September 12, 2016
The Cask Casket Poe s use of verbal and dramatic irony in The Cask of Amontillado foreshadows
the both the crime and the death of the characters in the story. Even before the story begins the use
of irony is seen. In the title The Cask of Amontillado the word cask has a similar phonetic to the
word casket, which is synonymous to the word coffin which leads one to believe that there will
be a death in the story. One of the most ironic aspects of the story is the name that Poe gives the
victim Fortunato. The irony sets in that he is very unfortunate to be fooled into such an obvious
trap leading to his death, even with the name he was given and set intelligence he was supposed to
have, but is blurred by the effects of alcohol.
Another use of irony and foreshadowing is that the death was planned during a carnival. A carnival
is usually a time of celebration, in this case it was the carnival before Lent, allowing themselves
to indulge in pagan activities before the self denying 40 days celebrated by certain religions. It
is ironic that this a religious filled activity filled with drunks who have no perception of reality
or self awareness. At the time Fortunato ran into Montresor, Fortunato was involved with the
excess of alcohol which made him become easily fooled and unaware of the reality of his
situation exposing himself to Montresor almost effortlessly. When they are met Montresor is
masked, he seems to be doing in what is in the best interest for Fortunato, wanting to show him
the fine wine, disguising his real intentions under the mask, and Fortunato, of course, was dressed
as a jester. The irony stands in that Fortunato is more willing to follow Montresor once he
removes his mask, once he shows his face and is smiling and leading him down the catacombs.
This is the irony that Montresor is a two faced character. Behind the mask and his words, he hides
his true intentions of revenge and yet when he takes the mask off he is still deceiving Fortunato,
even though one would think that once one is unmasked their true self reveals. Fortunato on the
other hand is portraying himself as a fool in the outfit he is wearing already. It is

Essay on Stereotypes in Anita and Me
After analysing certain interpretations in Anita Me I agree with Meera Syals opinion that if you
judge people in groups; you do not understand humanity.
I think Syal has used typical stereotypes so that viewers can relate to issues and prejudices that
relate to them also. As an Asian herself, Syal has portrayed the old fashioned traditional views of
Asian families within her Indian characters in Anita Me.
In Anita Me, Meena seems to experience a clash of both Eastern and Western cultures. She is a
young girl trapped between growing up in the Western culture where she has been born and brought
up, however her parents still want her to adapt to her Eastern Cullture although she is a British Asian
and expect her to follow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
British Asians have finally broken out of this confined box and have many more opportunities to
pursue the careers that they d like to.
In Meena s case, perhaps her mother is trying to live out her ambitions through her as Meena has
many more advantages of living in Britain and receiving a good quality life and education.
Another point I picked on when this film was that Meena s parents seem to treat her as a baby
although she is on the brink of becoming a teenager. However her parents like any other Asian
parents, still seem to cradle her in a precious shell, and metaphorically if that shell was to crack
that would represent her growing up and going against her parent s morals as she would be able to
make decisions for herself.
Meena s family is the only coloured family in this particular street in Tollington. Although her
family are respected and Meena thinks she is just like any other kid be it brown or white, she
always seems to be reminded that they are `different in comparison to the `others. At school we
get an insight on the way she is treated by her teacher who doesn t praise Meena as she would to
the white kids.
Even Anita refers to Meena as Not one of them, you re different wench
Hence meaning Meena isn t like other Asians. But how would Anita know? She has only ever
known one Asian in the way she knows Meena, so she hasn t got anyone

Laughter In The Birds
Anthropocene Laughter in The Birds: A Socializing Function,
Human in Nature, and an Absence of Feeling
The world was once familiar with what is recognized as the Holocene; however, because of the
harm and damage drove by human kind, we are currently entering into the Anthropocene. Comedy,
a specific genre, which refers to a form of entertainment that has the main goal of igniting laughter
within an audience, has been around for centuries and is still extremely prevalent in the present
day. It dates back all the way to Ancient Greece when comedywas purely satirical. At the time,
humor was found in doing parodies of politics and social organizations. Since then, the style has
gone through tremendous transformations and in its modern age, is far different than the comedy
from all those years ago. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This piece is the oldest work that Aristophanes has left behind and is celebrated for being the
perfect example of a true ancient comedy. Even as years go by, several critics maintain that the
comedic element in this play is still applicable and relevant to the modern day.
In Laughter (1924) author, Henri Bergson, an influential French philosopher, and fan of comedy,
seeks to further understand laughter in all of its complexity. Straightaway he establishes three
ideas quite clearly: comedy is human, laughter requires an absence of every other emotion, and it
plays a huge role in social life. He goes on further with the social aspect of laughter, even
suggesting that laughter needs cannot occur without multiple people with the following telling
statement: You would hardly appreciate the comic if you felt yourself isolated from others.
Laughter appears to stand in need of an echo [...] Our laughter is always the laughter of a group (6).
Throughout the book, Bergson brings up his own theory of laughter, seeing it as almost a part of
evolution. Laughter

Greek and Roman Architectural Influences in Modern Society...
There are many imitations, and reproductions of Greek and Roman forms in the modern society of
today. Even though the times of the great Ancient Greek and Roman Empires have passed, people
of today are still able to honor their legacy with their long lasting influences on modern society
today, especially in architecture. If one just looks at today s style of buildings, they can see the
similarities between the two different time spans.
Back in the golden days of Greece, one of the top priorities to the Grecian people was how big and
impressive their way of life was, and this included their houses, and public buildings. The primary
type of definitive Greek building was the temple. Many of these temples were built on a large hill

( Classical Greek Architecture 616) (Reid 26)
Along came the Mycenaean Period after the Minoan Period, in 1500 BC. This mainland Grecian
society was very different from the Minoans. While the Minoans of Crete were laidback, these
Grecians were much more militaristic and practical, much like how the Roman Empire was, except
there were individual communities often warring with each other. Also, the Mycenaean cities
were dominated by gigantic citadels, or huge fortresses, that were strategically placed on ground
that was higher than the rest of the city, and were protected by massive walls that were made of
limestone, which were entered by a great set of fortified gates. There are some similarities
between the Mycenaean and Minoan people. Much like the Minoan palaces, the grand house for
the important members of the Mycenaean group had many large rooms that were built around a
central courtyard as well. The central courtyard had a distinctive feature called the megaron, which
was an elliptical hall that was used for both domestic and ceremonial purposes. It took up one side
of the courtyard and had a grand front porch and vestibule. Other than the megaron in the courtyard,
the only other difference between the two periods was that in the Mycenaean Period, the rooms of
the palace were much smaller and more compact, again resembling the practicality of Rome s
architecture instead of the grandness and beauty of Grecian architecture. (Reid 26)

New Australia And New Zealand
New Zealand is more than just a beautiful country, it is an investment opportunity waiting to
happen. The land is filled with natural beauty and can be seen even in the big cities. New Zealand
preserves the countryside because they know how important it is to be close to nature. The
government is very forward thinking. New Zealands economy is growing and business opportunities
are everywhere. The growing free market has increased development in many sectors of business
within New Zealand. History
About 1000 years ago, Polynesian s were the first to inhabit New Zealand. They became the Maori
people. Then in 1642 the European explorer, Abel Janszoon Tasman, sailed to the island.
Unfortunately his arrival brought about violence and Abel Janszoon Tasman left to return home
shortly after the violence erupted. In 1769 two European captains land in New Zealand thus
bringing with them muskets that start a war between waring Maori tribes. In 1840 some of the tribe
leaders and the British Crown signed the Treaty of Waitangi, which brought the country under
British control and gave the Maori equal rights as the British citizens.
In 1893 women were given the right to vote, in 1898 they started pensions, and in 1907 they
founded a child welfare program. Since 1941 the country has had socialized medicine. New
Zealand has signed several trade agreements. According to the New Zealand Trade Enterprise

Essay about We Need Stronger Child Support Laws
The amount of child support cases in arrears would decline if a few things were changed, hopefully
providing incentives to pay child support on time and regularly. There are also harsher
consequences that could be carried out to prevent future mistakes. There are things being done, but
is it enough? As it stands the noncustodial parentcan face loss of visitation, probation, and even jail
time for none payment of child support. By not enforcing court ordered child support and making
examples out of those who are not in compliance, we are sending out a message that child support
is more of an option than a legal obligation. Think about the ones who are really suffering here, the
children involved. There are many low income families... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the noncustodial parent is already behind on payments they will investigate as much as they
can based on the information you have given to them. However, they will not represent you in
court if that is the next step to be taken. You may also apply for legal aid and if your
circumstances are right and a court appointed lawyer may be provided. However, this does not
mean that you will get a great lawyer or one that is best for your case. The noncustodial parent
may get a more experienced lawyer. There are other steps that can be taken at this point which
include; hiring a privet investigator, hiring an agency dedicated to acquiring child support, or hiring
an attorney to file contempt charges against the noncustodial parent. None of these options are
inexpensive and if the custodial parent is already not receiving child support they may have run out
of options and money needed to go back to court to file charges.Even if contempt charges are filed,
the noncustodial parent must still be arrested so their last known address must be known. If the
noncustodial parent has moved or cannot be found for them the best that can be hoped for is that
they unfortunately get arrested for something else in the mean time or hope that they decide to start
making payments.
Many noncustodial parents think that they are paying too much money for child support and that
the courts were unfair to them. In general the courts will base

West Side Story Essay
West Side Story
1. Point out how the general setting of the play is established.
Give at least two examples.
The play West Side Story takes place in a suburb on the West Side of
New York City. We can conclude that we are talking about a socially disadvantaged suburb as the
surrounding area is described with high brick walls, not very attractive and by the presence of the
two gangs
the Jets and the Sharks.
We are also able to say in which time period the actions take place.
As an indicator we are using the dance at the gym in Act I,Scene 4, where Tony and Mariafirst
meet. At this dance everyone is dancing the jitterbug just as the jive. Both were popular during the
1940`s and
1950`s.
We should also mention that it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second group we meet is the Sharks. They are all immigrants from
Puerto Rico who all came to find a better life. They feel especially disadvantaged and believe this is
due to their place of birth.
Bernardo, who is the leader of the Sharks and Maria`s older brother seems to be in control of
everything. It also appears as if he is more dominant than his parents possibly because they are, just
like he is, immigrants but less adapted to the new situation.
Both groups are struggling for survival in the streets and their social lives. Certain similarities can
be found even though they would never admit to these.
Many of the above mentioned aspects are typical prejudices and therefore named as typical features
of the society (in this case the society consists of the Jets and the Sharks).

3. Examine the primary desires/hopes/agonies terrors of one of the main characters and compare
them with those of Gatsby.
One of the protagonists of West Side Story is Tony. We learn that Tony is one of the founders of
the Jets. No matter what he might have had in the gang in the past he left his buddies some time
ago. What is important is that even though he no longer appears to be an active member of the
Jets he still is accepted and what is even more respected by the other members. His presence is
important for them at the dance, as well is his decision concerning the rumble.

The Despicable Way We Feel About the Homeless Population
As New Yorkers, we have seen the all too familiar sight of homelessness and those who are
affected by it on a daily basis. We see homeless people sleeping on the subway cars, on park
benches, on dirty pavements, begging for food and money, pushing carts with garbage, dragging
around the little they have everywhere they go. They are the panhandlers, the mentally ill, the
uneducated and unmotivated who fell through the cracks, the substance abusers, society s filth,
and the bottom of the barrel. This is our perception of the homeless. Notice how none of these
ideologies are positive. It s time we change our perception. We need to learn to see the people
who are living under these conditions as people first and not judge or ignore them because of their
appearances. In order to do this we have to decrease the stigma associated with being homeless and
become more compassionate towards those who experience homelessness.
In seems like we have a love/hate relationship with the homeless. At times, we may choose to
help a homeless person in need but most of the time we turn a blind eye because it is a common
phenomenon. Sometimes we give a homeless person our chump change when we feel sorry for
them or we may even provide them with a meal, or perhaps give them a blanket or a coat, or
provide shelter when possible. But in most cases, we find them repulsive or lack a better
understanding of why they are in these situations, or simply don t care to understand why. Instead
we wish they

Technology is the best way to reduce the impact of an earthquake to what extent do you agree with
this view? (40 marks)
An earthquake is a sudden violent shaking of the ground, typically causing great destruction, as a
result of movements within the earth s crust or volcanic action. Impacts of an earthquake can
include short term impacts such as fatalities, or long term impacts such as income lost through lack
of tourism. Technology can be used to predict the likelihood of an earthquake occurring in a
particular area, for example by detecting plate movement, and this can reduce the impacts of an
earthquake in return. This essay will discuss whether technology is the best way to reduce the
impact of an earthquake or not.

Tsunamis are usually caused by tectonic displacement of the ocean floor often resulting in an
underwater earthquake. This happened on Boxing Day in 2004 in the Indian Ocean where there
was a 1000km thrust fault from a release of stress along the constructive destructive plate boundary.
No technology was in place to detect such a disaster and, although scientists knew a tsunami was
likely to hit Southern Asia, most of the warnings were too late and the first TV broadcasts in
Thailand even happened after the waves had hit. Up to 290,000 people were killed and thousands
of bodies are still missing to this day. Since this disaster, a tsunami warning systemhas been put in
place in the Indian Ocean and technology such as this is almost guaranteed to prevent such a high
death toll for the future. There is a strong argument that if such technology was implemented before
2004, then thousands of lives could have been saved through evacuation and similar measures.
Technology is the best way to reduce the impacts of earthquakes because they can predict a
upcoming earthquake, allowing residents of an area time to evacuate to safe land, saving many
lives. However, there are many other ways of reducing the impacts of earthquakes and technology
has its limitations.
The effectiveness of earthquake monitoring and warning systems are limited as many authorities
choose to ignore warning signs to avoid disruption to businesses and

Messenger RNA Essay
There are three types of RNA: mRNA, tRNA, and rRNA. Messenger RNA (mRNA) is
synthesized from a gene segment of DNA which ultimately contains the information on the primary
sequence of amino acids in a protein to be synthesized. The genetic codes is translated is for
mRNA, not DNA. The messenger RNA carries the code from the nucleus to the ribosome in the
cytoplasm where protein synthesis occurs. It also carries the genetic information copied from the
DNAin the form of a series of three base code words , also known as triplets, each of which
specifies a particular amino acid. Each nucleotide triplet, called a codon, can be read from the
mRNA and translated into an amino acid to be incorporated into a protein being synthesized.

The tRNA molecules is made up of a single strand of RNA consisting of about 80 nucleotides. By
twisting and folding upon itself, tRNA forms several double stranded regions in which short
stretched of RNA pair with other stretches. There is a single stranded loop at one end of the
RNA and it contains a special triplet of nitrogen bases called an anticodon. The anticodon triple
on tRNA is complementary to a triplet codon on the mRNA. At the other end of the tRNA
molecule is a site where an amino acid can attach. This specific structure of the tRNA gives
tRNA its ability to match a particular nucleic acid word (codon) with its corresponding protein
word (amino acid). There are about 45 different type soft RNAs, each with a certain shape and a
specific anticodon. The third type of RNA is the ribosomal RNA (rRNA). In the cytoplasm,
rRNA and several proteins combine to form a nucleoprotein called a ribosome. The ribosome
serves as the site and carries the enzymes necessary for protein synthesis. Ribosomes are where
protein synthesis actually takes place; they consist of two subunits a large subunit and a small

Dishonest Academic Integrity Analysis
The Merriam Webster dictionary defines the act of plagiarism as, to commit literary theft; present
as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source. Lee University is a Christ
centered university that is extremely adamant about their continued commitment to the principals
of truth and honest, which is one of the aspects that I looked for in a college years ago. Due to
their commitment, dishonesty in one s academic work, such as stealing and/or lying is handled
with serious consequences. Ephesians 4:25 proclaims, Therefore each of you must put off
falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. Lee goes into
a multitude of directions with how they define dishonest academic integrity.

Choosing The Forbes Travel Guide Star
This means that every month for the last 2 years, 6.2 new luxury hotel were built in the world.
Hotels where each guest may easily fancy himself as prince surrounded by a flock of courtiers
(Sherman, 2007, p. 26) are being required more and more every day. The World Luxury Index
(2014) revealed that the global consumer interest for the luxury hospitality industry grew 7.7% in

The numbers donВґt lie, the luxury hotels industry is growing fast. But, are they positioning
themselves correctly in the consumer s head? Are they targeting the right client segment? And what
are the triggers they use to attract their consumers?
To answer these questions, I chose two luxury hotels brands. I will evaluate and compare them
covering the brands personalities and positioning, and analyze what these brands do to motivate the
consumers in their purchase decision. The two brands chosen were The Ritz Carlton and the South
African Lodge Londolozi. These very different choices were made considering The Forbes Travel
Guide Star Awards definition of Luxury Hotel; it defines them as those that provide a memorable
experience through virtually flawless service and the finest of amenities. In these hotels, the staff is
perceptive, involved and passionate, willing to go that extra mile. They were both designed with
the guest s comfort in mind, investing special attention to quality.

There must be a professional relationship between nurses and patients which must encompass
trustworthiness, empathy and cooperation among them. According to (Severinsson, 2003), the
goal of ideal nurse can be achieved by the nurses by developing professional relationship with the
care receivers. In achieving this model the nurses had to fulfill the health related demands of
patients related to biological and psychosocial aspects of health. Patients have high expectation

Network Security Threats for ASDI
New and Rapidly Advancing Threats One of the biggest threats to network security in 2014 is the
end of support for the Windows XP operating system (OS). On April 8th 2014, Microsoft will
discontinue support for the aging OS. What this means for users of Windows XP is that as new
vulnerabilities and exploits are discovered, they will not be fixed the vulnerabilities will only
continue to grow. For any business environment that is still using Windows XPbeyond April 8th, the
machines running the OS will become the organization s biggest securityflaw. It is highly likely
that hackers are holding back on using known zero day exploits for Windows XP until after April

An exploit kit such as Blackhole can pose a threat to ASDI in two ways. The first threat is to the
one hundred workstations. These workstations could potentially fall victim to a driveby
download if they are used to visit a compromised website. The other way ASDI could be harmed
by an exploit kit is if one or both of its web servers become compromised, and an exploit kit is
installed, the servers would then install malicious software on the company s customer s computers
when they visit the site.
Countermeasures and Prevention In order to ensure that ASDI s network is as secure as it can
be, it is important to ensure that the logical structure is appropriate to facilitate a secure network.
The company s two web servers need to be sectioned off from the internal subnets. This is best
accomplished through the use of a demilitarized zone (DMZ), which places a firewall between
the web servers and the intranet, and another firewall between the web servers and the Internet. If
the outer firewall is breached, the web servers may become compromised, but the intranet would
still be protected by an additional firewall. The student workstations should reside on a student
subnet which has no connectivity to the employee subnet. The employee and student subnets will
each have a file server connected, and the company s email server will be connected to the
employee subnet. There are already two WiFi access points (AP) at ASDI one will be

Phones are used by remote users so we can say it s the communication on move. The evolution
Of mobile technology starts from 1G, and now we are using 4G in our daily life. Let s have a
Brief discussion on the topic: (Faisal, march, 2010)
2First Generation (1G) This technology was first used in July, 1978 and the mobiles of that age are
used for only
Voice transformation and one way voice transformation. It uses 25 MHz bandwidth frequency
Allocated from one station to the cell phone and 25 MHz bandwidth frequency allocated for cell
phone to the station. The 1G technology uses frequency division media access (FDMA) through
which the users have to wait for the other user s reply. (Faisal, march, 2010)
3Second Generation (2G) Because of the remarkable popularity of these cell phones the technology
changes its
Trends and change the way of communication by introducing a new technology called second
generation (2G). It was firstly used in 1991 and in this technology the new communication way
Was introduced which solve the problem of multiple users on the network and fully encrypted
Digital way was introduced instead of analogue way. (Faisal, march, 2010)
4Third Generation (3G): Because of the much demand by the people it was felt that there must be
some better communication then 1G or 2G. The third generation is also one of the finest ways of
communication even now a day. 3G uses 2.5 GHz band

of Frank Mir, Heath Herning, Shane Carwin, Cain Velasquez, Alistair Overeem and lastly UFC
Legend Randy Couture who he beat in his second ever fight in the UFC to become UFC
Heavyweight Champion which is unheard of since fighters needed to climb up the rankings
before challenging for the big belt but the company knew how big of a box office draw Lesnar

Gluteal Region Research Paper
The gluteal region is an anatomical area located posteriorly to the pelvic girdle, at the proximal end
of the femur. The muscles in this region move the lower limb at the hip joint. The gluteal muscle is
composed of three muscles that make up the buttocks: Gluteus Maximus, Gluteus Medius, and
Gluteus Minimus. They are supplied by the gluteal nerves and vessels, which reach them through
the greater sciatic foramen. The gluteus maximus is the largest of the gluteal muscles and one of
the strongest muscles in the human body. The gluteus medius is the second largest gluteal muscle

Class In America By Gregory Mantsios Critical Analysis
In the first article titled Class in America by Gregory Mantsios the discussion on class affecting
the United States negatively is brought up. Gregory talks about the fact that people do not choose
to be poor but they are put into situations where they cannot move up in class. Due to the fact that
class creates an immense gap in communities, there are many issues linked to being categorized
as the lower class. In the article Gregory states that class affects more than lifestyle and material
well being. It has a significant impact on our physical and mental well being as well. CITE) The
author connects the idea that if you are in the lower class than you will also deal with other issues
include your mental and physical health declining. Alongside this idea, the author also states All
Americans do not have an equal opportunity to succeed, and class mobility in the United Statesis
lower than that of the rest of the industrialized world. (CITE) This goes along with the idea that
once your born into a class, breaking out of it is virtually impossible. The author is also making
the point that in the United States class is more problematic than other developed nations and
because of this not everyone is given the chance to break free from a poor lifestyle. In the second
reading title Framing Class by Diana Kendall the idea of class is described as the rich get richer
and the poor get poorer. Diana focuses on the idea that the media shapes the way we view class.

Twelfth Night Comparative Essay
William Shakespeare s The Twelfth Night original text and Trevor Nunn s filmed version were
both well crafted works highlighting the director s point of view. Shakespeare s original work
introduced the reader to a worded text that would have numerous embedded narratives which help
deepen the interest in the plot moving forward. For instance, light vs. dark, good vs. evil, and
perfect vs. imperfect scenarios were given specific characteristics throughout the film version
eloquently allowing Shakespeare s original text objectives to move forward without a wrinkle.
Nunn allowed his unaligned and nonchronological sequence to somehow meet Shakespeare s
original text in the end intact with its original integrity. The filmed version s first... Show more

As the characters recite numerous words of their love felt for one another there is still a sort of
dark undertone. In act three scene one, Olivia says love s night is noon can be translated as so.
The manipulation of Malvolio s emotion that was mastered by Maria and Sir toby would allow
Malvolio who seemed dark and monotone in the original text allowed to show his lighter side in
the visual version of this work. Having a visual allows the audience to see the shift from
Malvolio s tunnel vision and straight laced restricted way of living to a person whom seemed to
be set free through his delightful dancing in gratitude of what he thought being Viola s love for
him. Feste sings a song in the end that is written in the original text and translated into a visual
form in the filmed version, but Nunn placed the fool as he was in the first scene allowing the
story to come full circle in the end. The fool seem to identify with the broader perspective of the
story. The words of the song told a story of nothing really matters when someone has a goal to

Child Rearing Is The Right Type Of Parents
As I get older raising a family comes to mind. My wife and I have talked to each other about
having a child. We have discussed about the possibilities that could happen if we do decide to go
through with it. More importantly, how good of a parent can we become? Will we be able to
provide for all the needs of the child? Will we be able to instill the needed values for the child to
grow as an upstanding person? How can we be the right type of parents and should we do it the
American or the Filipino way? These are the discussions that we have every time the topic of child
rearing comes to mind. We are almost in our thirties, so this is an eventuality that is getting closer
and closer. There is an enormous amount of information about parentingstyles. According to
Baumrind there are four styles of parenting, which are, authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and
uninvolved parenting (as cited in Kail and Cavanaugh, 2012, pg. 250). Authoritarian parenting
means you exercise a lot of control over the child with little to no concern for the child s opinion.
The parents establish strict guidelines for the child with the threat of repercussions if not followed.
Authoritative parenting combines a fair degree of parental control with being warm and
responsive to children ( Kail and Cavanaugh, 2012, pg. 250). This is the parenting style
recommended by most people, as studies have shown this parenting style reared children better who
are better equipped with social skills

The War On Drugs And Its Impact On The United States
The current policy in use by the United States concerning illegal drugs is both outdated and
unfair. This so called war on drugs is a deeply rooted campaign of prohibition and unfair
sentencing that is very controversial and has been debated for many years. The war on drugs is
designed so that it will never end. This current drugwas has very little impact on the overall supply
of prohibited drugs and its impact on demand seems non existent. United States taxpayers are
spending billions of dollars on this failure of policy. They are spending billions to incarcerate
drug users instead offering drug treatment which could help lower demand. Legalizing illicit
would lower abuse and deaths from use and could have a positive economic impact on the
United States. Certain industries are making massive sums of money by capitalizing on the drug
war. Currently, many prisons are beginning to be run by private corporations. If a company is
running a prison then they need prisoners to stay in business. Around 1 in every 107 Americans
is currently being housed in a prison. The United States has about 5 percent of the world s
population yet 25 percent of its prisoners(ACA, 2008). This is the easiest way to maintain a large
prison population is by maintaining the current drug war. The largest private prison company in the
United States is Corrections Corp. of America(ACA, 2008). In the last twenty years, CCA has

Compare And Contrast The Raven And The Nightmare Before...
What is common between most horror films and texts? They all use similar types of codes and
conventions. These codes and conventions differ between genre and can be easily identified. These
also reflect the values of the audience they are intended for. The 1993 stop motion animated film,
The Nightmare Before Christmas , directed by Henry Selick, and the 1845 poem, The Raven ,
written by Edgar Allan Poe, are both a part of the horror genre, as they follow the codes and
conventions of that genre. They use similar visuals, sounds, characterisation, and themes. Using
these and other conventions, audiences can identify a genre, which influences their opinions and

Sound is extremely important in films, and the types of sound used differ between genre. Sound is
important in all films. Without sound, films do not possess as much power compared to if they did
have sound. In The Nightmare Before Christmas , multiple soundtracks are used throughout the film
. Two fantastic soundtracks in the film are This is Halloween and The Oogie Boogie Song . Both
use orchestral instruments and the lyrics are sung with deep voices. Diegetic sounds used in these
soundtracks and throughout the film include bats squeaking, bugs crawling, and pumpkin heads
being chopped off using a large metal blade. The effect of sounds, including soundtracks, is to
enhance the feeling experienced from the visuals. Deep voices and multiple orchestral instruments
create suspense and fear. As the music crescendos, the suspense increases as well. Loud, sudden
sounds like a scream or crash create sudden fright. Using different sounds, films are more exciting
and can be used to determine a genre.
In texts and films, one or more themes are used, and specific themes are conventional to different
genres. A commonly used theme in the horror genre is insanity, which is easily identifiable in The
Raven . In the poem, the narrator dreamt of things, smelt perfumes coming from an unseen censer ,
and even started shouting at the raven which sat still just above his chamber door. He kept asking

Jim does not verbally communicate his feelings about Pam to her directly or to the documentary

episode. One example of a verbal hint is during an interview with the documentary crew in
which Jim says ...Um, Pam s favorite flavor of yogurt, which is mixed berry. Although this
seems very minor, it foreshadows Jim s deeper feelings for Pam. In addition to Jim revealing the
subtle hint about his feelings using the yogurt description, in the Pilot episode he also exhibits

Disparities Of The 2014 Reported Burglary And Theft...
This paper analyses the disparities of the 2014 reported burglary and theft statistics between the,
Auckland City District (ACD) and WaitematДЃ District (WD). The statistics are reported by the
National Police Headquarters as of April 2015 (New Zealand Police, 2015). Therefore, Police
reporting practices will be discussed to point out the strengths and weaknesses of the reported data.
Secondly, the Routine Activities and Social Disorganisation theories will be used to provide an
explanation for the differences in recorded burglary and theft statistics. Lastly possible policy
solutions to reduce the amount of crimereported to and recorded by Police will be discussed. As it
appears, burglary and theft offences are higher amongst the Auckland City district than the
WaitematДЃ.These results are consistent with the Routine Activity and Social Disorganisation
theories as there are more suitable targets, less collective efficacy and more incapable guardians
within the ACD due to structural deficiency.
The ACD cover the areas within Herne Bay, Freeman s Bay, St Helier s, Onehunga and Avondale,

Effective Communication And Its Impact On The World
In the name of Allah, the most merciful, the most beneficent.
Leadership is the art of directing individuals and workers towards a proverbial point C in the
distance. The success of reaching the destination is highly contingent upon the ability of leadership
to communicate. As Muslims, we need to look no further than the Quran. We are shown examples
of effective communication by Prophets and shown conviction of those who follow the divine
message. However, a great example of such communication hinges on the success demonstrated by
an insect as tiny as 1 millimeter in size; the ant. The ant, which by no coincidence is the 27th Surah
in the Quran, is the epitome of effective communication and organization. Ant colonies consist of 3

The ability of the leadership to clearly communicate these objectives can mean the difference
between a successful organization and one that remains stagnant. However this can only be
conveyed effectively if the given mission and vision are clear.
An ambiguous mission and vision set leadership portrays several qualities of inadequate
leadership; 1) lack of clarity of the end goal causes leadership and management to head in any
direction they see fit. Often times the chosen direction chosen by one leader of an organization
will be contradictory to direction of other leaders causing inefficiency and internal strife in the
organization. In the event leadership is turned over, the lack of clarity is magnified, as the direction
is often arbitrarily changed per the whim and desires of the new leadership. This type of direction
shift is prevalent in religious establishments and organizations which elect members from the
constituency. Leaders are put in place without proper understanding of the direction or goals. This
concoction of leaders changes direction and scope with ease and regardless of the consequences. As
a result, lack of motivation of the more experienced can ensue. To further complicate management,
many of these disgruntled will choose to simply leave the organization. This effectively removes
the efficient, yet critical, member and retains the sub par;

With Amrita Ramachandaran s interview, a lot of clarity on the correlation between the theory and
practice of entrepreneurship was obtained through her journey and experiences as an entrepreneur.
Amrita with two of her friends started Right click, a brand communication company in 2010 and by
what I understood she followed a model of effectual entrepreneurship.
According to Saras D. Sarasvathy All entrepreneurs begin with three categories of means: (1) who
they are―their traits, tastes, and abilities; (2) what they know―their education, training,
expertise, and experience; and, (3) whom they know―their social and professional networks.
Using these means, the entrepreneurs begin to imagine and implement possible effects that can be
created with them. 2
In the case of right click, Amrita knew that she possesses the traits and abilities to become an
entrepreneur because she always desired to do something of her own. Her education and training
was in mass media and communication which sought her experience and expertise in the fields of
communication and branding. Her social network comprised of her colleagues from her previous
jobs, clients, family and friends. All this combined enabled Amrita to take the plunge into

Body Systems The four main body systems are, circulatory, respiratory, nervous/sensory, and

up of the nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and lungs. It serves to intake oxygen and get rid
of carbon dioxide. The sensory system is composed of the brain, spinal cord, spinal nerves, and

Unlike the earthworm, crawfish have open circulatory systems. There are no veins, but tissue
spaces called sinuses instead. Two arteries leave the heart, the abdominal and anterior dorsal aortas.
The blood circulates from the dorsal arteries, to capillaries, and continues on into the sinuses.
Crawfish breathe through gills that are located on the outside of the body in between the body
wall and carapace. The gills are attached to the walking legs so that crawfish can breathe as it
walks. They store water in a pocket so that they can breathe even while they are on land. The
crawfish s brain is a mass of nerve ganglion that is directly in front of the esophagus. Small nerves

the esophagus, combining into the ventral nerve cord that then runs all the way into the abdomen.

The only remaining child Mary possessed was a son named William ( Shelley Exploring). Similar
to her book Frankenstein, Mary was left with her last child William after many deaths just as
Victor Frankenstein only had his little brother Ernest to support him in the end. After the trauma
that had struck the Shelley family, Percy wanted Mary to live her life to the fullest and not give
up. Percy wanted Mary to have what she most yearned for that was growth, love and freedom.
Similar to the novel Frankenstein, the monster that Victor Frankenstein creates wishes for the
same that Mary had coveted her whole life. (Harris) At the age of twenty four Mary s husband
drowned leaving her with her son William and no money ( Shelley Exploring). In the novel
Frankenstein, Victors wife whom he had just married, died shortly after leaving him with just his
father and Ernest as Mary Shelley only had William and her father. The tragic events that occurred
in Mary s life seem to pass down into her novel Frankenstein in a similar fashion from which they
happened.
In conclusion, many people and events throughout the course of Mary Shelley s life influenced

lawful counsel; the correspondence must identify with that reason; and the interchanges must be
made in certainty between special persons (Hall and Estrella, 2000). Thus, Emails feel like
private discussions. Mostly, in the working environment, managers regularly hold the privilege to
screen each email sent or got by a representative on a business possessed device or system
(DeLisi, 2012). In bright of the separating suppositions among the ABA, the beneficiary of an

Digital Formats And The Vinyl Records
We live in an ever changing world, with technological advancements being made every day.
Digital formats are everywhere, from phones to watches with music being a part of it all.
Musical formats prior to digital formats have, for the most part, faded into the background, but
there is one relic that is regaining popularity and that is the vinyl record. Vinyl records burst on
the scene at the beginning of the 20th century and are more popular than ever boasting 52%
increase in sales from 2013 to 2014, while the popularity of digital downloads are slowly
decreasing dropping by 9% (Gibson). As vinyl makes its way back into the hands of audiophiles,
new consumers are racing to get their paws on these vintage music format, but where does one
go to acquire vinyl records? Luckily, there are several options from the old standard of the record
store to the all inclusive online store. There are also some unusual places to find vinyl such as the

store s various assets such as, locations and instant gratification, a tangible experience, interacting
with owners and other vinyl enthusiasts, and special discounts and events like Record Store Day.
As previously mentioned there are many factors to consider when buying records, some come to

Silver lining: a sign of hope in an unfortunate or gloomy situation; a bright prospect ( Silver lining

and make light of the situation and remain positive and hopeful that they can overcome the obstacle
without letting it bring them down. The 2012 filmSilver Linings Playbook , based off the award

France Is The Most Romantic Place On Earth

My country is France, I chose France as my country because it s capital is the most romantic
place on earth. France is located in Western Europe. The capital of France is Paris. The president
of France is . One of its most well known landforms is the Eiffel Tower. Another is The Louvre
which is an art museum. Paris is known worldwide for its couture fashion houses. Another reason I
chose France is because I ve always wanted to go there. Climate Geology France has long hot
summers and cool winters. Southern France remains balmy throughout spring which is March May
and in autumn which is September October, which are much better times to visit. Prices are also
much cheaper. Northeastern areas have warm summers and colder winters. The winters have
rainfall distributed throughout the year and snowfall likely in winter. Summer which is June
August, is the peak season. During this time it is warm and sunny across much of the country.
One of the prettiest natural spectacles occurs in Provence, which is between the last week of June
and first week of August. This is when lavender fields in The Luberon are in full bloom. The
crowds return during the ski season which is December March, packing out resorts in the Alps and
Pyrenees. This offers excellent conditions for skiing.

Summary Of The Bourne Supremacy
Intensified continuity as a concept had four parts to it that contributed to it. The first involved the
use of rapid editing techniques meaning quicker cuts. With audiences slowly beginning to expect
this sort of action they became accustomed and began enjoying these types of films. The next style
was using a tight frame anytime there was a dialogue between characters or the scene itself. By
focusing in on the actor, it placed an importance they compared the scene itself. The next style
meant using motion in shots, allowing the director to convey to the audience about the emotion
involved in that scene, using different lens lengths. Like using long lenses in outdoor shots catching
the action that was happening farther away or using a wide angle lens to capture more of what s
going on in the scene. In the film, The Bourne Supremacya 2004 mystery crime based film that
follows Matt Damons character Jason Bournewho s is framed by a Russian operative for stealing
millions of dollars from the CIA. That same operative begins the hit for Jason hell bent on
assassinating him. Intensified continuity in this movie is essentially using short, focused shots on
the protagonists to maintain the audience s attention. But each of these shots has a single purpose
which conveys the small snippet of information needed for the audience to maintain their attention
with the movie. With the Bourne Supremacy, it all tends to follow the specifics of the CIA attempts
in hunting him down to sub

  • 2. Themes Of Japan s Indigenous Religion THEMES Japan s indigenous religion is ShintЕЌ, and its customs are enmeshed in Japanese culture. It is animistic, seeing gods and spirits in everything. This leads to a deep respect for human harmony with the environment. Many Ghibli films contain jinja, or shrines, and torii, or sacred gates, which are used to pay respect or give offerings in ShintЕЌism. Ghibli films also contain kami, spirits that reside in all things. Princess Mononoke is filled with a kami (Odell 28). Other Japanese mythology is seen through Miyazaki films through spirits that have the ability to transform their shape, such as the foxes and raccoons in Pom Poko. Buddhism also influences Miyazaki films. Dragons derive from Buddhist legends and are in Spirited Away. Buddhist statues are also seen in My Neighbor Totoro, and Pom Poko (Odell 28). All of his movies contain variations of spirits, demons, or fantastical creatures rooted in nature. There is a balance of empathy through his human elements, but mystery in his fantasy elements. One major theme that runs through all Miyazaki films is environmentalism, or how mankind interacts with nature. This is closely linked with the ShintЕЌ ethic that sees the environment as interconnected beings that deserve respect. In Princess Mononoke, the center of the plot is focused on the conflict between humans destroying the forest and the gods and spirits who are fighting back. In Ponyo, the dumping of waste is almost her downfall right at the beginning of the movie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Cask Of Amontillado Short Story Analysis Brissa Martinez ENGL 1302 001 Short story analysis September 12, 2016 The Cask Casket Poe s use of verbal and dramatic irony in The Cask of Amontillado foreshadows the both the crime and the death of the characters in the story. Even before the story begins the use of irony is seen. In the title The Cask of Amontillado the word cask has a similar phonetic to the word casket, which is synonymous to the word coffin which leads one to believe that there will be a death in the story. One of the most ironic aspects of the story is the name that Poe gives the victim Fortunato. The irony sets in that he is very unfortunate to be fooled into such an obvious trap leading to his death, even with the name he was given and set intelligence he was supposed to have, but is blurred by the effects of alcohol. Another use of irony and foreshadowing is that the death was planned during a carnival. A carnival is usually a time of celebration, in this case it was the carnival before Lent, allowing themselves to indulge in pagan activities before the self denying 40 days celebrated by certain religions. It is ironic that this a religious filled activity filled with drunks who have no perception of reality or self awareness. At the time Fortunato ran into Montresor, Fortunato was involved with the excess of alcohol which made him become easily fooled and unaware of the reality of his situation exposing himself to Montresor almost effortlessly. When they are met Montresor is masked, he seems to be doing in what is in the best interest for Fortunato, wanting to show him the fine wine, disguising his real intentions under the mask, and Fortunato, of course, was dressed as a jester. The irony stands in that Fortunato is more willing to follow Montresor once he removes his mask, once he shows his face and is smiling and leading him down the catacombs. This is the irony that Montresor is a two faced character. Behind the mask and his words, he hides his true intentions of revenge and yet when he takes the mask off he is still deceiving Fortunato, even though one would think that once one is unmasked their true self reveals. Fortunato on the other hand is portraying himself as a fool in the outfit he is wearing already. It is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on Stereotypes in Anita and Me After analysing certain interpretations in Anita Me I agree with Meera Syals opinion that if you judge people in groups; you do not understand humanity. I think Syal has used typical stereotypes so that viewers can relate to issues and prejudices that relate to them also. As an Asian herself, Syal has portrayed the old fashioned traditional views of Asian families within her Indian characters in Anita Me. In Anita Me, Meena seems to experience a clash of both Eastern and Western cultures. She is a young girl trapped between growing up in the Western culture where she has been born and brought up, however her parents still want her to adapt to her Eastern Cullture although she is a British Asian and expect her to follow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... British Asians have finally broken out of this confined box and have many more opportunities to pursue the careers that they d like to. In Meena s case, perhaps her mother is trying to live out her ambitions through her as Meena has many more advantages of living in Britain and receiving a good quality life and education. Another point I picked on when this film was that Meena s parents seem to treat her as a baby although she is on the brink of becoming a teenager. However her parents like any other Asian parents, still seem to cradle her in a precious shell, and metaphorically if that shell was to crack that would represent her growing up and going against her parent s morals as she would be able to make decisions for herself. Meena s family is the only coloured family in this particular street in Tollington. Although her family are respected and Meena thinks she is just like any other kid be it brown or white, she always seems to be reminded that they are `different in comparison to the `others. At school we get an insight on the way she is treated by her teacher who doesn t praise Meena as she would to the white kids. Even Anita refers to Meena as Not one of them, you re different wench Hence meaning Meena isn t like other Asians. But how would Anita know? She has only ever known one Asian in the way she knows Meena, so she hasn t got anyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Laughter In The Birds Anthropocene Laughter in The Birds: A Socializing Function, Human in Nature, and an Absence of Feeling The world was once familiar with what is recognized as the Holocene; however, because of the harm and damage drove by human kind, we are currently entering into the Anthropocene. Comedy, a specific genre, which refers to a form of entertainment that has the main goal of igniting laughter within an audience, has been around for centuries and is still extremely prevalent in the present day. It dates back all the way to Ancient Greece when comedywas purely satirical. At the time, humor was found in doing parodies of politics and social organizations. Since then, the style has gone through tremendous transformations and in its modern age, is far different than the comedy from all those years ago. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This piece is the oldest work that Aristophanes has left behind and is celebrated for being the perfect example of a true ancient comedy. Even as years go by, several critics maintain that the comedic element in this play is still applicable and relevant to the modern day. In Laughter (1924) author, Henri Bergson, an influential French philosopher, and fan of comedy, seeks to further understand laughter in all of its complexity. Straightaway he establishes three ideas quite clearly: comedy is human, laughter requires an absence of every other emotion, and it plays a huge role in social life. He goes on further with the social aspect of laughter, even suggesting that laughter needs cannot occur without multiple people with the following telling statement: You would hardly appreciate the comic if you felt yourself isolated from others. Laughter appears to stand in need of an echo [...] Our laughter is always the laughter of a group (6). Throughout the book, Bergson brings up his own theory of laughter, seeing it as almost a part of evolution. Laughter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Greek and Roman Architectural Influences in Modern Society... There are many imitations, and reproductions of Greek and Roman forms in the modern society of today. Even though the times of the great Ancient Greek and Roman Empires have passed, people of today are still able to honor their legacy with their long lasting influences on modern society today, especially in architecture. If one just looks at today s style of buildings, they can see the similarities between the two different time spans. Back in the golden days of Greece, one of the top priorities to the Grecian people was how big and impressive their way of life was, and this included their houses, and public buildings. The primary type of definitive Greek building was the temple. Many of these temples were built on a large hill known as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ( Classical Greek Architecture 616) (Reid 26) Along came the Mycenaean Period after the Minoan Period, in 1500 BC. This mainland Grecian society was very different from the Minoans. While the Minoans of Crete were laidback, these Grecians were much more militaristic and practical, much like how the Roman Empire was, except there were individual communities often warring with each other. Also, the Mycenaean cities were dominated by gigantic citadels, or huge fortresses, that were strategically placed on ground that was higher than the rest of the city, and were protected by massive walls that were made of limestone, which were entered by a great set of fortified gates. There are some similarities between the Mycenaean and Minoan people. Much like the Minoan palaces, the grand house for the important members of the Mycenaean group had many large rooms that were built around a central courtyard as well. The central courtyard had a distinctive feature called the megaron, which was an elliptical hall that was used for both domestic and ceremonial purposes. It took up one side of the courtyard and had a grand front porch and vestibule. Other than the megaron in the courtyard, the only other difference between the two periods was that in the Mycenaean Period, the rooms of the palace were much smaller and more compact, again resembling the practicality of Rome s architecture instead of the grandness and beauty of Grecian architecture. The land is filled with natural beauty and can be seen even in the big cities. New Zealand preserves the countryside because they know how important it is to be close to nature. The government is very forward thinking. New Zealands economy is growing and business opportunities are everywhere. The growing free market has increased development in many sectors of business within New Zealand. History About 1000 years ago, Polynesian s were the first to inhabit New Zealand. They became the Maori people. Then in 1642 the European explorer, Abel Janszoon Tasman, sailed to the island. Unfortunately his arrival brought about violence and Abel Janszoon Tasman left to return home shortly after the violence erupted. • 8. Essay about We Need Stronger Child Support Laws The amount of child support cases in arrears would decline if a few things were changed, hopefully providing incentives to pay child support on time and regularly. There are also harsher consequences that could be carried out to prevent future mistakes. There are things being done, but is it enough? As it stands the noncustodial parentcan face loss of visitation, probation, and even jail time for none payment of child support. By not enforcing court ordered child support and making examples out of those who are not in compliance, we are sending out a message that child support is more of an option than a legal obligation. If the noncustodial parent is already behind on payments they will investigate as much as they can based on the information you have given to them. However, they will not represent you in court if that is the next step to be taken. You may also apply for legal aid and if your circumstances are right and a court appointed lawyer may be provided. However, this does not mean that you will get a great lawyer or one that is best for your case. The noncustodial parent may get a more experienced lawyer. There are other steps that can be taken at this point which include; hiring a privet investigator, hiring an agency dedicated to acquiring child support, or hiring an attorney to file contempt charges against the noncustodial parent. None of these options are inexpensive and if the custodial parent is already not receiving child support they may have run out of options and money needed to go back to court to file charges.Even if contempt charges are filed, the noncustodial parent must still be arrested so their last known address must be known. If the noncustodial parent has moved or cannot be found for them the best that can be hoped for is that they unfortunately get arrested for something else in the mean time or hope that they decide to start making payments. • 9. West Side Story Essay West Side Story 1. Point out how the general setting of the play is established. Give at least two examples. The play West Side Story takes place in a suburb on the West Side of New York City. We can conclude that we are talking about a socially disadvantaged suburb as the surrounding area is described with high brick walls, not very attractive and by the presence of the two gangs the Jets and the Sharks. We are also able to say in which time period the actions take place. As an indicator we are using the dance at the gym in Act I,Scene 4, where Tony and Mariafirst meet. At this dance everyone is dancing the jitterbug just as the jive. Both were popular during the 1940`s and 1950`s. We should also mention that it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second group we meet is the Sharks. They are all immigrants from Puerto Rico who all came to find a better life. They feel especially disadvantaged and believe this is due to their place of birth. Bernardo, who is the leader of the Sharks and Maria`s older brother seems to be in control of everything. It also appears as if he is more dominant than his parents possibly because they are, just like he is, immigrants but less adapted to the new situation. Both groups are struggling for survival in the streets and their social lives. Certain similarities can be found even though they would never admit to these. Many of the above mentioned aspects are typical prejudices and therefore named as typical features of the society (in this case the society consists of the Jets and the Sharks). ( 302 ) 3. Examine the primary desires/hopes/agonies terrors of one of the main characters and compare them with those of Gatsby. One of the protagonists of West Side Story is Tony. We learn that Tony is one of the founders of the Jets. No matter what he might have had in the gang in the past he left his buddies some time ago. What is important is that even though he no longer appears to be an active member of the Jets he still is accepted and what is even more respected by the other members. His presence is important for them at the dance, as well is his decision concerning the rumble.

  • 11. The Despicable Way We Feel About the Homeless Population As New Yorkers, we have seen the all too familiar sight of homelessness and those who are affected by it on a daily basis. We see homeless people sleeping on the subway cars, on park benches, on dirty pavements, begging for food and money, pushing carts with garbage, dragging around the little they have everywhere they go. They are the panhandlers, the mentally ill, the uneducated and unmotivated who fell through the cracks, the substance abusers, society s filth, and the bottom of the barrel. This is our perception of the homeless. Notice how none of these ideologies are positive. It s time we change our perception. We need to learn to see the people who are living under these conditions as people first and not judge or ignore them because of their appearances. In order to do this we have to decrease the stigma associated with being homeless and become more compassionate towards those who experience homelessness. In seems like we have a love/hate relationship with the homeless. At times, we may choose to help a homeless person in need but most of the time we turn a blind eye because it is a common phenomenon. Sometimes we give a homeless person our chump change when we feel sorry for them or we may even provide them with a meal, or perhaps give them a blanket or a coat, or provide shelter when possible. But in most cases, we find them repulsive or lack a better understanding of why they are in these situations, or simply don t care to understand why. Instead we wish they ... (40 marks) An earthquake is a sudden violent shaking of the ground, typically causing great destruction, as a result of movements within the earth s crust or volcanic action. Impacts of an earthquake can include short term impacts such as fatalities, or long term impacts such as income lost through lack of tourism. Technology can be used to predict the likelihood of an earthquake occurring in a particular area, for example by detecting plate movement, and this can reduce the impacts of an earthquake in return. This essay will discuss whether technology is the best way to reduce the impact of an earthquake or not. Technology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tsunamis are usually caused by tectonic displacement of the ocean floor often resulting in an underwater earthquake. This happened on Boxing Day in 2004 in the Indian Ocean where there was a 1000km thrust fault from a release of stress along the constructive destructive plate boundary. No technology was in place to detect such a disaster and, although scientists knew a tsunami was likely to hit Southern Asia, most of the warnings were too late and the first TV broadcasts in Thailand even happened after the waves had hit. Up to 290,000 people were killed and thousands of bodies are still missing to this day. Since this disaster, a tsunami warning systemhas been put in place in the Indian Ocean and technology such as this is almost guaranteed to prevent such a high death toll for the future. There is a strong argument that if such technology was implemented before 2004, then thousands of lives could have been saved through evacuation and similar measures. Technology is the best way to reduce the impacts of earthquakes because they can predict a upcoming earthquake, allowing residents of an area time to evacuate to safe land, saving many lives. However, there are many other ways of reducing the impacts of earthquakes and technology has its limitations. Messenger RNA (mRNA) is synthesized from a gene segment of DNA which ultimately contains the information on the primary sequence of amino acids in a protein to be synthesized. The genetic codes is translated is for mRNA, not DNA. The messenger RNA carries the code from the nucleus to the ribosome in the cytoplasm where protein synthesis occurs. It also carries the genetic information copied from the DNAin the form of a series of three base code words , also known as triplets, each of which specifies a particular amino acid. Each nucleotide triplet, called a codon, can be read from the mRNA and translated into an amino acid to be incorporated into a protein being synthesized. Messenger RNAis a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tRNA molecules is made up of a single strand of RNA consisting of about 80 nucleotides. By twisting and folding upon itself, tRNA forms several double stranded regions in which short stretched of RNA pair with other stretches. There is a single stranded loop at one end of the RNA and it contains a special triplet of nitrogen bases called an anticodon. The anticodon triple on tRNA is complementary to a triplet codon on the mRNA. At the other end of the tRNA molecule is a site where an amino acid can attach. This specific structure of the tRNA gives tRNA its ability to match a particular nucleic acid word (codon) with its corresponding protein word (amino acid). There are about 45 different type soft RNAs, each with a certain shape and a specific anticodon. The third type of RNA is the ribosomal RNA (rRNA). Hotels where each guest may easily fancy himself as prince surrounded by a flock of courtiers (Sherman, 2007, p. 26) are being required more and more every day. The World Luxury Index (2014) revealed that the global consumer interest for the luxury hospitality industry grew 7.7% in one year. The numbers donВґt lie, the luxury hotels industry is growing fast. But, are they positioning themselves correctly in the consumer s head? Are they targeting the right client segment? And what are the triggers they use to attract their consumers? To answer these questions, I chose two luxury hotels brands. I will evaluate and compare them covering the brands personalities and positioning, and analyze what these brands do to motivate the consumers in their purchase decision. These workstations could potentially fall victim to a driveby download if they are used to visit a compromised website. The other way ASDI could be harmed by an exploit kit is if one or both of its web servers become compromised, and an exploit kit is installed, the servers would then install malicious software on the company s customer s computers when they visit the site. Countermeasures and Prevention In order to ensure that ASDI s network is as secure as it can be, it is important to ensure that the logical structure is appropriate to facilitate a secure network. The company s two web servers need to be sectioned off from the internal subnets. This is best accomplished through the use of a demilitarized zone (DMZ), which places a firewall between the web servers and the intranet, and another firewall between the web servers and the Internet. If the outer firewall is breached, the web servers may become compromised, but the intranet would still be protected by an additional firewall. The student workstations should reside on a student subnet which has no connectivity to the employee subnet. According to Baumrind there are four styles of parenting, which are, authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and uninvolved parenting (as cited in Kail and Cavanaugh, 2012, pg. 250). Authoritarian parenting means you exercise a lot of control over the child with little to no concern for the child s opinion. The parents establish strict guidelines for the child with the threat of repercussions if not followed. Leadership is the art of directing individuals and workers towards a proverbial point C in the distance. The success of reaching the destination is highly contingent upon the ability of leadership to communicate. As Muslims, we need to look no further than the Quran. We are shown examples of effective communication by Prophets and shown conviction of those who follow the divine message. However, a great example of such communication hinges on the success demonstrated by an insect as tiny as 1 millimeter in size; the ant. The ability of the leadership to clearly communicate these objectives can mean the difference between a successful organization and one that remains stagnant. However this can only be conveyed effectively if the given mission and vision are clear. An ambiguous mission and vision set leadership portrays several qualities of inadequate leadership; 1) lack of clarity of the end goal causes leadership and management to head in any direction they see fit. Often times the chosen direction chosen by one leader of an organization will be contradictory to direction of other leaders causing inefficiency and internal strife in the organization. In the event leadership is turned over, the lack of clarity is magnified, as the direction is often arbitrarily changed per the whim and desires of the new leadership. This type of direction shift is prevalent in religious establishments and organizations which elect members from the constituency. Leaders are put in place without proper understanding of the direction or goals. This concoction of leaders changes direction and scope with ease and regardless of the consequences. As a result, lack of motivation of the more experienced can ensue. To further complicate management, many of these disgruntled will choose to simply leave the organization. With Amrita Ramachandaran s interview, a lot of clarity on the correlation between the theory and practice of entrepreneurship was obtained through her journey and experiences as an entrepreneur. Amrita with two of her friends started Right click, a brand communication company in 2010 and by what I understood she followed a model of effectual entrepreneurship. According to Saras D. Sarasvathy All entrepreneurs begin with three categories of means: (1) who they are―their traits, tastes, and abilities; (2) what they know―their education, training, expertise, and experience; and, (3) whom they know―their social and professional networks. Using these means, the entrepreneurs begin to imagine and implement possible effects that can be created with them. 2 In the case of right click, Amrita knew that she possesses the traits and abilities to become an entrepreneur because she always desired to do something of her own. Her education and training was in mass media and communication which sought her experience and expertise in the fields of communication and branding. Her social network comprised of her colleagues from her previous jobs, clients, family and friends. All this combined enabled Amrita to take the plunge into entrepreneurship. With audiences slowly beginning to expect this sort of action they became accustomed and began enjoying these types of films. The next style was using a tight frame anytime there was a dialogue between characters or the scene itself. By focusing in on the actor, it placed an importance they compared the scene itself. The next style meant using motion in shots, allowing the director to convey to the audience about the emotion involved in that scene, using different lens lengths.
