Fred Wilcox s Science Fiction Film, Forbidden Plane has a...
Comparison and Contrast
In the 1956 science fiction film by Fred Wilcox, Forbidden Planet closely resembles many other
pieces of literature. The most obvious resemblance to Forbidden Planet is Shakespeare s The Tempest.
As expected, the characters and plot of Forbidden Planet closely mirror those characteristics of The
Tempest, with the exception that where The Tempest engages magic, Forbidden Planet utilizes
technology. What is more important, however, is that how the technology works is irrelevant for the
purpose of the movie, which is to entertain and to teach us a lesson about man s control over the
elements and over his own technological creations. Forbidden Planet strongly resembles Shakespeare
s The Tempest through the characterization similar in both the play and the film.
In Shakespeare s The Tempest, Prospero and Miranda became stranded on a remote island that has no
person except for Caliban on it. Prosperon using the magic he has created, he gradually gains control
of the island and turns Caliban into his slave. A group of sailors is shipwrecked on the island, one of
whom falls in love with Miranda, the lovely daughter of Prospero. Throughout the story, Caliban and
other servants plot to overthrow Prospero, but are caught and taken back to the custody of Prospero.
In the science fiction film Dr. Morbius and his daughter Altaira are in control of a remote planet when
a U.S. spaceship lands on the planet to gather information. Commander Adams of the

An Example Of Small Business In The Walt Disney Company
People wonder all the time how companies started out and how they got so successful? An example of
a person who has helped successful people get off their feet. James Dill, the founder of CT, allegedly
is the person that laid down the foundation for the incorporation law ( CT Sponsors 2015 Small
Business Week. ). They are associated with the SBA, also known as the Small Business Association.
CT Corporation offered a convention like event about recognizing small business and their
contributions to America. These conventions date back to 1963 ( CT Sponsors 2015 Small Business
Week. ). Certain traits help small businesses become successful, such as, persistence, confidence,
fearlessness, and passion.
This skill is something everybody needs if success is wanted; that skill would be persistence.
Persistence is a good skill to have because it means having a will to continue an action even when
obstacles get in the way. Henry Ford tried making a 4 wheel vehicle mainly running on ethanol. After
failing his attempted on the car, Henry invented the model T as part of his Ford Motor Company
(Kaufman). Even when Henry failed, he kept trying new idea until he got what he wanted. Another
person who had persistence was Walt Disney. He was told at a young age that he had no good ideas
and lacked imagination (Kaufman). Those thing did not get in his head and he ended up making
movies part of the Walt Disney Company. According to Biz Stone, co founder of Twitter, Timing,

Rhetorical Analysis Of John Carpenter s The Thing
John Carpenter is one of the 21st century most original directors and cinematographers. Carpenter is
known as the master of horror narrative, but he offers the viewer more than a good scare. Carpenter
leaves his audience questioning their beliefs and identifying with the characters he personifies.
Carpenters use of allusion in his films plants direct messages into our subconscious. Carpenter has a
particular flare for slaying the innocent in his films and playing on the irony of the lease guilty or least
likely person tragically dying. In Assault on Precinct 13, the little girl getting ice cream laying slain
next to the ice cream truck man was not done by accident. Carpenter is deliberate in his approach to
that scene and even pays close ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carpenter received critical acclaim for Assault in Precinct 13. From the introduction of the film, we
are given settle warnings about the events to come. Carpenter captures many street scenes with signs
that said no parking , do not enter and no seating . Interestingly enough these signs would appear right
before or after a scene of devastation. Carpenter uses color to convey symbolic messages as well. The
color blue is used on the African American officer tie to convey patriotism and civil service. On the
other hand the color red is used in the brae of one of gang members and stands out on all of the
warning signs to symbolize danger (bad guys). Even more symbolic is the dart board which is hung in
the police station, which had two blue darts and a red bulls eye reinforcing the conflict between good
guys vs. bad buys consequently as the movie plots envelopes, we find ourselves catching the settle
details along the way.
John Carpenters career began while he was still studying in college. He launched his career with the
makings of short films in 1962. Carpenter experienced success early in his career, going on to win his
first academy award in 1970. In 1974 Carpenter released sci fi comedy, Dark Star . Dark Star was an
independent film by Carpenter and only had a budget of about $60,000. Dark Star has been mentioned
as one of the Top 10 space movies of all time and has good reason to. Dark Star as a black comedy

Reflection On Volunteer Service
Maria Jara
HEA 2301
2 November 2017
Volunteer Service Reflection I have volunteered at multiple facilities such as MD Anderson, Habitat
for Humanity, Disaster Relief at church but for this assignment I wanted to do something different. I
constantly do volunteer work due to the company I work for, Gap Inc. has an organization for
employees Be What s Possible and donates money for the hours I volunteer to the non profit
organization of my choice. My good friend is part of the education department here at UHD and said
that some students from other classes were volunteering at juvenile facilities and I was intrigued,
therefore I teamed with my volunteer leader for Gap and reached out to see if volunteering there
would be an option for me and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But in reality, some of the teachers just let go of what the students say even if it is disrespectful, while
others were very caring and some were extremely strict. After getting to talk and know some of them,
I can tell they are good kids deep down. They have ambition and dreams just like everybody else,
some even talked to me about wanting to become engineers and wanting to attend the University of
Houston someday. They are also very respectful boys, they would help me carry my desk over next to
the teacher and they would help me pass out textbooks and they would always say please and excuse
me. I believe that deep down these boys made mistakes but they are on the verge of correcting them
and eventually getting themselves straightened out. During my time there I did a lot of observing,
helped the teacher grade some papers and tried to help the students with their work. I also got to
answer a lot of their questions and curiosity they had about college and what it was like. During class
there is always a teacher and there was Mr. Rhodes for behavior purposes, if one of the students
misbehaved he would take them out of the classroom and talk to them. He was also very close to the
students, there was a clear bond between them. During lunch he would always put on the football
channel and they would just watch and chat. Even though the teachers and Mr. Rhodes are strict and
demanding with the students, I believe that is what really helps motivate them. Some of them

Film Analysis Of The Awakenings
There are always losses to each pleasant situation and unfortunately in the 1990 film directed by
Penny Marshall, Awakenings, this theme appears throughout. In a chronically ill hospital where Dr.
Malcolm Sayer is recruited with little to no experience with people, he works with multiple patients
that are in a sleep like state including Mr. Leonard Lowe. Set in the late sixties, there were not many
medical advances that already existed to help these patients but Dr. Sayer makes unheard of
discoveries. Many awakenings occur in this film, but with these renewals comes gains and losses. Dr.
Sayer, the staff, and the patients inhabited in this Brooklyn hospital gain and lose different things with
their explorations.
Dr. Malcolm Sayer begins as a man full of nervousness and a lack of people skills but eventually goes
through stages that lead to an awakening. Sayer is a nice man, though he likes to keep to himself
because he knows no different. He has never been in an hospital for humans as his last exploration
was on earthworms. The first few days at the hospital are filled with patients whom he knows nothing
about being thrown at him which makes the doctor very nervous and detached from his safe lifestyle.
One patient in particular interests Sayer named Leonard. Going through tests and medicine with
Leonard Lowe, Malcolm s eyes begin to open. After watching Leonard go through various phases,
Sayer seems to feel more confident. Dr. Sayer knows that what he has done is

Children With Disabilities Essay
Children with disabilities tend to have severe struggles and problems that can impact their daily lives,
personal growth, and education. Disabilities are restrictions due to impairment that can prevent a
person from performing an activity in a way that would be considered normal for several others in that
developmental stage. One of the many disabilities, which can be considered rare, is deafness or hard
of hearing. Majority of children are born deaf even if they have hearing parents due to genetic reasons
of complications during pregnancy. A premature baby also has the chance of losing their hearing
because they are prone to diseases and serious infections which can be a leading cause of deafness.
This disability can lead to delayed language, speech development, communication and cognitive
skills; which can later influence a low self esteem, isolation, learning difficulties, and behavior
problems.
Hearing loss or hard of hearing can cause delays in a child s development not only of It causes delay
in the development of receptive and expressive communication skills (speech and language). Because
of this, they have a learning deficit that causes learning problems that result in reduced academic
achievement, Children that suffer from hearing loss or hard of hearing tend to have communication
difficulties which has a possibility of leading the child to social isolation and poor self concept. In
many countries, the inclusion of deaf children, and in general children with

Reflection After Events Analysis
Conclusion: Reflection after Events.
Coming back in time I enjoyed Adler s work, as it encapsulate that my personality is my goal at the
time. Furthermore to my surprise everything I knew about Freud was wrong. I always assumed that
what he said was exactly that. However I have not come across to any reference where he points his
fingers at personality and say Take that literary . After reading his words and not opinions about him I
shaped my interpretation. I started seeing him as a philosopher, an academic adventurer driven by
curiosity. This was not Freudian conception I was familiar with and was far from my expectations. It
seemed misleading to think that Freud s idea of personality was describing it literary. I did not think

For example, the planning in reflection relies on assumption of cause and effect in the thinking
process. The limitation lay in timelines and approach that treats reflection as a fixed set of outcomes.
By limiting uncertainty and unpredictability one may limit the originality within the conclusions
achieved. All ideas that I have held dear were spontaneous scribbled on napkins, post it notes and
receipts. I was not able to think well on demand. However the model helped me to concentrate and
stay within boundaries of what I have expected to achieve or even reached beyond that. Before
reflecting, I never believed that I enjoy reading Sigmund Freud or Alfred Adler. I would have grinned
at the thought of admitting that they were more than fathers of psychology to me, a part of my course
work. Nonetheless, here I am, agreeing with both theorists and holding them dear to the image of
myself. Only after I counter balanced prejudice and the stereotype that was embedded in me through
student perspective and only when I disregarded other s opinion. I discovered that both Adler and
Freud discussed what I held personally dear, whether it was described as a challenge or desire it
underlined my inner world. There is no question to the fact that I dwelled in awe when reading Freud s
work and nodded at every paragraph when

Corrections And The Goals For The Future
On June 7, 2016, Steve Walters interviewed Jon Litscher Secretary of Wisconsin Department of
Correction on his return to corrections and the goals for the future. Litscher (2016) explained how
policies changed due to the ACT 10 law. The law prohibited the workers to bargain with their
employers on their wages and benefits (Patterson 2015). He verbalized that one of the goals for
corrections is to increase incentives such as benefits packages and pay increase for their workers. He
also shared that the goals for correction is to reintegrate the inmates back into society. The
stakeholders in this change include the union workers, families, inmates, and taxpayers.
I did not have much history on the topic of corrections and the goals for the future. However, I have
heard that some correctional officers felt that they were underpaid and with the shortages. These
shortages could contribute to situations that are more dangerous for the offeiceers. I have a friend who
works as a correctional officer and with these shortages, he has to work mandatory overtime or have to
stay if needed. He has mentioned how frustrating it could be when trying to make and keep plans with
his family. Litscher (2016) verbalized that corrections is going through a recruitment process and the
classes are getting bigger and with the competitive wages and benefit packages this shortage should
come to an end.
Nevertheless, I was unaware that the starting pay for a correctional officer is $16, but even with

Diaphragic Pressure Essay
If the therapist has access to an electronic medical record, noting transdiaphragmatic pressure from a
pulmonologists evaluation is the best indicator of diaphragmatic strength. This is measured as the
difference between intraabdominal pressure and intrathoracic pressure. Documenting diaphragmatic
weakness as a diagnosis should be considered when evaluating breathless patients. 44 Observation
will be the next tool to help identify those patients with dysfunctional breathing as a result of a poor
ZOA. Other authors recommend assessment in supine with a comparison made between sitting and
supine. Issues will be more pronounced in supine. A reduction in vital capacity (perceived
breathlessness) or reports of orthopnea is another indicator of DD. McCool2 Mier Jedrzejowicz et al
found that patients with the most severe orthopnea had the weakest diaphragms.44 In these patients,
the physical therapist should also look for the abdominal paradox. In this clinical sign the weakened
and flattened diaphragm contracts inwardly, as opposed to inferiorly, pulling the rib cage with it. It is a
result of the change in the orientation of the diaphragm, the loss of the ZOA and its resultant
ineffectiveness in moving the rib cage outwardly. Urmey/De Troyer/Kelly/Loring45 The abdominal

latissimus or intercostal tightness, there may be a limitation in shoulder flexion. Length of the anterior

Personal Narrative Essay On Freedom Rides
It was just another Sunday morning. There were birds chirping, sun shining, people driving fords and
Chevrolet s up and down the streets. When I got out of bed and went downstairs I saw that my family
had already started breakfast and were all still at the table and talking faintly about something very
quietly. My mother noticed me walk into the kitchen and told me that the rest of the family had just
finished breakfast and that I could pull up a T.V. tray and watch Sing Along With Mitch with my older
brother and sister and that she would make me some Flapjacks and be there in a flash. So I went into

Words Against Tyrants
Words against Tyrants: A Defense of Literature Silence is golden; yet with the controlling nature of
censorship and the ignorance that comes with it, this simple saying falls short. This tyranny relates to
the ideas presented in Salman Rushdie s Haroun and the Sea of Stories, Robert Fulford s article The
heritage of storytelling , and the theory of archetypes outlined by Carl Jung. These texts demonstrate
the importance of stories by analyzing the role of narratives or by presenting literature s struggle as a
story. It is necessary to defend literature against tyranny because it is a responsible for the operation of
society, is a biological imperative, and provides a reason for being. Protecting stories from oppression

Analysis Of The Movie Clockwork Orange
Ryan Wadzinski Clockwork Orange A clockwork orange is an adaptation of Anthony Burgess novel of
the same name, it s also probably Kubrick s most faithful adaptation. This may be because a
screenplay was never actually written. Instead, Kubrick worked it out as he went along, working
directly from the book as he did. The thing about Kubrick that drew me to want to explore this movie
so just how bizarre and deprived it is, but yet the all of its wild and crazy parts are able to come
together to create one beautiful unique dystopian future. The reason is the attention to detail, he was
meticulous to a tee and that attention to detail shows. When you worked on a Kubrick film you
brought you re A no matter what department you were one. That s very evident with the costumes
which were done by Academy Award winning Italian designer Milena Canonero. The costuming in
this movie is fantastic it combines looks and attitudes that are very clearly 70 s London inspired, the
clothing has this mod/punk vibe to it, that felt entirely original and like a bizzaro version of today.
This makes sense because in an interview Milena stated that Kubrick didn t want to make a futuristic
film in a traditional science fiction way; he wanted to create something that was tomorrow something
far closer to today making the movie timeless. She intended to create costumes that were possible to re
create, as street gangs in reality create the look themselves with clothes they already own.

Comparing And Contrasting Views Of Anderson And Karl Marx
Anderson s ideas of simultaneity, sovereignty and limitedness regarding a nation and community have
a lot to do with nationalism with regards to established borders. Friedman on the other hand was
looking at the idea of flatism and how interconnect our world is now. The two have very interesting
and contrasting viewpoints. These ideas can be explored by looking at how connected our world has
begun.
Anderson argued that sovereignty or nationalism is an imagined political community and its members
are held together by shared ideas and values. It s imagined because the members never know all the
other members. There s a limitedness to the length of the nation because it is limited by borders of
other nations. This aspect of Anderson s linking is expanded upon by Friedman s travels. He remarks
that the world has gotten even more connected now and so perhaps the imagined political community
or even social community has expanded to immeasurable lengths. He used the example of how many

The internet is the perfect example of this because it began in the U.S. but did not stay within the
borders of the nation. It was called the world wide web for a reason and as Friedman says, India got a
free ride . India integrated itself into the borders of our nation by working in our industries and even
giving us new technology. We in turn call Indian for help with pretty much everything from fixing our
cell phones to credit card issues.
The idea of simultaneity when used regarding nations by Anderson suggests that the members of the
nation go about their lives and never meet each other but they do not doubt that they exist. Anderson s
view of this idea is amplified in the tomb of the unknown soldier and other similar national
monuments. We will never know the identity of the person who is buried in the tomb but there is no

The Themes Of Deception In William Shakespeare s Twelfth...
William Shakespeare s comedic Twelfth Night is a rich romance, exploring the whirlwind of emotions
such as grief, the burning desire of wanting to be loved, as well as foolery and deceit. Viola and her
twin brother Sebastian have been separated at a shipwreck. Alone and scared, she disguises herself as
a man to serve Duke Orsino who is madly in love with Countess Olivia. Consisting of an unfortunate
love triangle between the grieving Olivia, the obsessive Orsino, and the secretive Viola, the characters
get too tangled up in themselves failing to realize their love is insincere for one another. In a story full
of laughter, trickery, love, and disguise, Shakespeare captures several themes that are essential in the
present world. Precisely, William Shakespeare focuses on the crucial theme of deception, shining a
light on how easy it is for one to be deceived, as well as how effortlessly misled we are in our
everyday lives.
There are two types of deception showcased in the play, including self deception, as well as deception
through concealment and exaggeration. Self deception refers to when one is in denial, allowing
himself to believe a situation, subconsciously knowing that it is false. For instance, when Maria wrote
the love letter to Malvolio acting as Olivia, she was tricking him to believe Olivia loved him.
Although Malvolio s ego is his weakness, deep down, he knew this could not be true due to the fact
that he is Olivia s steward and she sees him as nothing more.

Welfare Reform Pros And Cons
The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (PRWORA) was one
of the biggest legislation signed by Bill Clinton that focused on welfare. The main goals of this law
were to lessen the dependency on federal government welfare while increasing employment and
reducing poverty.
The program established a 5 year lifetime time limit for welfare benefits. Because the welfare program
was focused on increasing employment while decreasing poverty, Temporary Assistance for Needy
Families, TANF, was initiated. This program is a block grant that provides each state with a fixed
amount of money as long as the state meets certain conditions. PWRWORA restriction eligibility for

According to statistics, employment in never married mothers increased nearly 50%, single mothers
who HS dropouts increased by 2/3, young single mothers nearly doubled (Karger et al., 2007). But the
problem is, are these jobs sufficient enough to get these people out of poverty? There are issues with
employment of individuals. These issues include a lack of work experience and education as well as
poor health (Urban Institute, 2014). Needing to work also impacts parent(s) and their duties for their
children because of long hours, stressful commutes, ad stressful working conditions. These types of
stress lead kids to take on the responsibilities of their parents to take care of their younger siblings
(Boscia, 2010). Third, those who support welfare reform say that this legislation successfully
decreased poverty. Statistics do show that between 1994 2004, overall poverty rate dropped from
14.5% to 12.7% and child poverty dropped from 21.8% to 17.8% (Karger, 2007, p.

Magic In The Middle Ages
In the introduction of the book Magic in the Middle Ages chapter, one emphasizes the definition of
magic. During the medieval era, Europeans believed that there were two types of magic, which were
called natural and demonic. As natural magic was considered to have a correlation with science as the
Wolfsthurn handbook illustrated the usage of a combination of herbs and magic in conjunction. For
example, using herbs to treat an illness with the addition of reciting specific words was deemed as

perverted depiction of religion. That demonic magic s power source was from demons and that words

As the Romans believed that people that suffered violent deaths were described to possess
supernatural power. The Romans would often attempt to summon the spirit of these individuals
through the practice of necromancy in order to obtain their power. Christians were accused of using
magic as well since they viewed Jesus Christ as a transcendent being that was all powerful.
Consequently, since Jesus Christ had a gruesome death the Roman asserted that Christianity s
followers were conducting magic by worshiping Jesus Christ since he had a terrible death. Moreover,
the lecture on Medieval European Conceptualizations of Magic and Witchcraft focused on defining
what magic is. As Christianity deemed that magic wasn t associated with the true religion that it

Summer Descriptive Writing
It all began with a simple phone call one night around two in the morning. I glanced down at my
phone, the name Summer illuminating the screen. As I hesitated to answer the phone, I thought of the
nice quiet evening at home, I would have if I rejected the call. I could sleep, and not have another

Thirty minutes, however Summer s burnt orange 1968 VW bug rumbled into my driveway, and she
was leaning on the horn before the car came to a full stop. Grabbing my coat from the couch, I walked

The Effects Of The Triangle Fire Of 1911
A year after shirtwaist workers thought they had won a war, the Triangle Fire proved that it had
merely been a battle. Under the Triangle Shirtwaist Company owners, Max Blanck and Isaac Harris,
the men and women laboring to sew waist skirts were dissatisfied with their terrible working
conditions and low wages. While working, the garment workers, made up of mostly poor Italian and
Jewish women immigrants, would constantly be yelled at and called sexist slurs by bosses, and forced
to work long, tiring hours for little pay (Argersinger 11). Tired of these conditions, the workers of the
Triangle Shirtwaist Company in New York met in secret to form a union against the company in
September 1909 (Argersinger 11). The union of the garment workers ... Show more content on

This was done as a security precaution to ensure none of the workers were stealing scraps of fabric or
shirtwaists (Class Lecture: Progressive Era). Additionally, the workers privacy was invaded daily
when their purses and bags were searched to prevent thievery. The workers felt as if they were being
searched like thieves by the Blanck and Harris (Argersinger 11). Subsequently, mistreatment
continued as the workers would often get stabbed by the needle of the sew machines, causing severe
bleeding and in some cases the loss of a finger, all while the workers were expected to keep sewing
(Argersinger 54). Furthermore, Clara Lemlich, a Jewish Russian immigrant, recalled that the bosses
would swear at [them] and sometimes do worse they [would] call [them] names that are not pretty to
hear (Argersinger 57). These poor working conditions seemed to never end, and day after day workers
would dread coming into work. But by September 1909, the workers had become fed up with the
mistreatment and terrible conditions, leading the men and women of garment industries all across New
York to look for a change. Over a hundred garment workers of the Triangle Shirtwaist Company met
in secret to listen to speakers from the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU) and the
Women s Trade Union League (WTUL) (Argersinger 63). These speeches prompted the Triangle
Shirtwaist Company employees to unionize

to the public transportation regardless of the fast pace of technological innovation. The author cites
societal friction as the most significant impediment to full automation. This is evidenced by the extent
of blames on the fatal crash in Ohio. Also, machine error is judged more harshly than human error.

An International Criminal Court
The establishment of an international criminal court was a slow, arduous process. Following the
horrific human rights violations committed by the Nazis in World War II, the global community began
to take the proper steps to combat the notion that being at war sanctions gross abuses of human rights.
It was not a lust for violence that elongated the process of establishing the ICC (international criminal
court), but rather the long time battle between accepting that the world is increasingly affected by
globalization and holding fast to the age old tradition of prizing state sovereignty above all. The scale
of the genocide carried out against all peoples not of Aryan descent in the 1940s was the catalyst
needed to start talks about prizing guaranteed rights over the incessant need to abide by antiquated
customary law. Whilst many argue that the ICC and ad hoc tribunals such as the International
Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former
Yugoslavia (ICTY) fail to provide a comprehensive international legal framework, they serve other
important purposes. Firstly, the ICC and its parent tribunals played a major part in ending the culture
of impunity. Oftentimes, in states where there are violations of international humanitarian law, the
government is wrought with corruption. Politicians and government officials abuse the rights of their
citizens and others under the guise of sovereign immunity. Tribunals, and later the ICC,

direction. They may even rotate the teeth slightly. The direction in which they shift your teeth will
depend on their current position.

Conflict Resolution And Child Custody
Conflict Resolution Child Custody
As a future marital and family therapist and even as a trainee, it is important to understand the
systemic thinking behind the practice. For those therapists, like myself, that want to become experts in
more an area, it is also important to delve into the theory and practice of that area. For example, child
custody is a big piece to conflict resolution when it comes to thinking systemically in the family. The
current divorce rate is around 50 percent and ever rising, which can be troubling yet promising when it
comes to the mediation field.
For the judicial system, this causes case overload, tired workers, and a lot of fees for the citizens going
to the family courts. One of the biggest things that could potentially stop a family from being happy
with their results is if the courts assign them custody agreements without thinking about each
individual factor. Each family is different and there is no cookie cutter answer when it comes to child
custody. If the family is assigned a family mediator, not only will it save long term costs, it can help
ensure each party feels heard and they are voluntarily agreeing to the terms.
Reasoning for Choosing Topic
When assigned this paper, I had no idea what to write about, since the conflict resolution is so broad.
But I sat down and thought about why I decided to take this class and why I wanted to get my
mediation certificate. As I said in class, I have seen really poor mediation, I have seen

Discourse In Shakespeare s Taming Of The Shrew
Shakespeare s works reflect the values andk of his era, with the theme of societal conformity and unity
necessary for harmony. The rigid stratification of societal roles evident in Taming of the Shrew are
directly derived from the Elizabethan hierarchy, with power dynamics based on wealth, family name
and gender, and costuming defining one s role. Discourse arises in Shakespeare s plays when a
character does not conform to the expectations and code of their prescribed societal role, evident in
Katherina s outgoing nature and aversion to playing her part described as a intolerable curst, shrewd,
and forward . The play concludes once Katherina appears to have conformed to her position as an
upper class wife and daughter, and societal harmony is achieved once more. This social disharmony is
repeated numerous times throughout the play, as disguise and role reversals appear initially
established in Christopher Sly, Sly s called a lord, but still is not a lord 2.6.1, the disguise of both
Lucentio the wealthy student into a tutor and Tranio his servant into Lucentio himself. The most
interesting use of costume is in Petruchio s marriage apparel, claiming To me she s [Katherina]
married, not unto my clothes 3.2.113, as he wears lowly, poor attire. Petruchio illustrated both the
inability to transgress one s self through disguise and deception, and his inherit contradiction,
attempting to change Katherina s nature, she may act the wife, but she is still Katherina. Shakespeare s
use of disguise and deceit adds humor to the play and creates a conclusive ending as each character s
transformations are undone, with no one permanently transgressing their societal roles. Similarly, 10
Things I Hate About You utilizes characterization through contemporary American stereotypes to
display a simplified social structure. This replicated Shakespeare s use of traditional social structure,
within the first 5 minutes of the film, a montage of each stereotype and their corresponding place in
the social hierarchy s displayed, with Michael listing each one. This archetype is prevalent throughout
the teen film genre over the last 30 years, with one s wealth, physical appearance, and alignment to
traditional characteristic of

Modern Voyeurism
Modern Voyeurism The Male Gaze in Disturbia As an advanced representation system the cinema
possesses questions of the ways the unconscious structure ways of seeing and pleasure in looking.
Feminists have been using Freud s psychoanalytical theory as a political weapon in order to
deconstruct popular Hollywood cinema and how it stimulates the patriarchal culture. Even though we
are more conscious about these structures nowadays, Hollywood cinema still uses the Male Gaze in
order to control the identification processes of the spectator. A recent example is the thriller Disturbia
(2007) by D.J. Caruso, seen as a modern interpretation of Hitchcock s Rear Window. It s a movie
about a grounded teenager who starts spying on his neighbours ... Show more content on

At first she is isolated and therefore glamorous and sexualized. Nevertheless, as soon as Ashley gets
involved with Kale and his voyeurism she becomes his property. He influences her actions. A great
example is when Ashley decides to throw a party, which makes Kale jealous and decides to ruin her
party so she has to come to his house to stop him. Instead of doing so, they kiss and continue spying
the neighbour, exactly as Kale wanted. By means of identification with Kale, through participation in
his power, the spectator can indirectly possess her too. Another notable fact about the dominance over
Ashley is the fact that she is framed a lot of times within the screenshots, making her limited (see
annex 2). This refers to Freud s psychoanalytical theory; females are limited because of the fact they
are incomplete , missing a phallus. The paradox of phallocentrism in all its manifestations is that it
depends on the image of the castrated woman to give order and meaning to its world. Therefore it s
necessary to emphasize this fact in the movie. Disturbia is a great adaptation of Hitchcock s Rear
Window. By using the same techniques as Hitchcock the director creates a tremendous suspense. Even
though women are more empowered nowadays, he still knows how to force the Male Gaze upon our
unconsciousness. Nevertheless, thanks to Mulvey s essay we are able to deconstruct these patriarchal
codes. Annexes 1.

Hearing People Communication
This article presented me with many observations on the way both Deaf and hearing people
communicate that I had not considered before. My prior experiences as a non signing hearing person
communicating with Deaf people have been limited to communicating through an interpreter or
slowing down my naturally fast rate of talking so that my lips could read. Admittedly, albeit naïvely, I
had never considered that I could improve my communication with other hearing people through tips
and tricks that Deaf people just use naturally when communicating with one another, however, this
article changed that completely. One thing that kind of surprised me a little at first is that Deaf people
routinely pass messages much faster and more precisely than any hearing person. It would seem like
being able to communicate orally would make getting messages across much easier, however, just

Add on top this our tendency to speak over one another and there s a wonder we ever get anything
communicated. ASL requires deaf people to not only speak one at a time, but the people listening have
to give the speaker their full attention so that they can understand what has been said, which is
something that hearing people could definitely improve upon. I also agree with Dr. Kahne s point that
there is a huge difference between our cultures in asking for clarification. If a deaf person doesn t
understand what has been said they will ask to have it repeated, whereas there seems to be a stigma
against that for many hearing people. Since we don t have to have our eyes on the speaker to
understand them, this allows for our eyes, and quite often also our minds, to wander. As a result we
don t end up understanding all or part of what was said and then for whatever reason, instead of asking
them to repeat it, we just smile and nod and pretend like we were paying attention the entire

The Cardiovascular System And How It Affects The Body
The cardiovascular system is made up of the heart, blood and blood vessels. Its function is to transport
oxygen to all systems of the body. Oxygen is needed for the body systems to operate. Exercise
increases the need for oxygen and causes the heart to pump faster. This in turn sends more blood
through the vessels. The vessels leading from the heart are the arteries and the veins are the vessels
that lead to the heart. Exercises causes the body to release a hormone called adrenalin. Adrenalin
makes the blood vessels expand in order to allow more blood to flow through. The body also makes
more capillaries. Capillaries transfer oxygen to body tissues. They collect waste and send it back
through the veins to the heart. These new capillaries

  • 2. Fred Wilcox s Science Fiction Film, Forbidden Plane has a... Comparison and Contrast In the 1956 science fiction film by Fred Wilcox, Forbidden Planet closely resembles many other pieces of literature. The most obvious resemblance to Forbidden Planet is Shakespeare s The Tempest. As expected, the characters and plot of Forbidden Planet closely mirror those characteristics of The Tempest, with the exception that where The Tempest engages magic, Forbidden Planet utilizes technology. What is more important, however, is that how the technology works is irrelevant for the purpose of the movie, which is to entertain and to teach us a lesson about man s control over the elements and over his own technological creations. Forbidden Planet strongly resembles Shakespeare s The Tempest through the characterization similar in both the play and the film. In Shakespeare s The Tempest, Prospero and Miranda became stranded on a remote island that has no person except for Caliban on it. Prosperon using the magic he has created, he gradually gains control of the island and turns Caliban into his slave. A group of sailors is shipwrecked on the island, one of whom falls in love with Miranda, the lovely daughter of Prospero. Throughout the story, Caliban and other servants plot to overthrow Prospero, but are caught and taken back to the custody of Prospero. In the science fiction film Dr. Morbius and his daughter Altaira are in control of a remote planet when a U.S. spaceship lands on the planet to gather information. Commander Adams of the ... An example of a person who has helped successful people get off their feet. James Dill, the founder of CT, allegedly is the person that laid down the foundation for the incorporation law ( CT Sponsors 2015 Small Business Week. ). This skill is something everybody needs if success is wanted; that skill would be persistence. Persistence is a good skill to have because it means having a will to continue an action even when obstacles get in the way. Henry Ford tried making a 4 wheel vehicle mainly running on ethanol. After failing his attempted on the car, Henry invented the model T as part of his Ford Motor Company (Kaufman). Even when Henry failed, he kept trying new idea until he got what he wanted. • 4. Rhetorical Analysis Of John Carpenter s The Thing John Carpenter is one of the 21st century most original directors and cinematographers. Carpenter is known as the master of horror narrative, but he offers the viewer more than a good scare. Carpenter leaves his audience questioning their beliefs and identifying with the characters he personifies. Carpenters use of allusion in his films plants direct messages into our subconscious. Carpenter has a particular flare for slaying the innocent in his films and playing on the irony of the lease guilty or least likely person tragically dying. In Assault on Precinct 13, the little girl getting ice cream laying slain next to the ice cream truck man was not done by accident. Carpenter is deliberate in his approach to that scene and even pays close ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Carpenter received critical acclaim for Assault in Precinct 13. From the introduction of the film, we are given settle warnings about the events to come. Carpenter captures many street scenes with signs that said no parking , do not enter and no seating . The color blue is used on the African American officer tie to convey patriotism and civil service. On the other hand the color red is used in the brae of one of gang members and stands out on all of the warning signs to symbolize danger (bad guys). Even more symbolic is the dart board which is hung in the police station, which had two blue darts and a red bulls eye reinforcing the conflict between good guys vs. bad buys consequently as the movie plots envelopes, we find ourselves catching the settle details along the way. Reflection On Volunteer Service Maria Jara HEA 2301 2 November 2017 Volunteer Service Reflection I have volunteered at multiple facilities such as MD Anderson, Habitat for Humanity, Disaster Relief at church but for this assignment I wanted to do something different. I constantly do volunteer work due to the company I work for, Gap Inc. has an organization for employees Be What s Possible and donates money for the hours I volunteer to the non profit organization of my choice. My good friend is part of the education department here at UHD and said that some students from other classes were volunteering at juvenile facilities and I was intrigued, therefore I teamed with my volunteer leader for Gap and reached out to see if volunteering there would be an option for me and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But in reality, some of the teachers just let go of what the students say even if it is disrespectful, while others were very caring and some were extremely strict. After getting to talk and know some of them, I can tell they are good kids deep down. They have ambition and dreams just like everybody else, some even talked to me about wanting to become engineers and wanting to attend the University of Houston someday. They are also very respectful boys, they would help me carry my desk over next to the teacher and they would help me pass out textbooks and they would always say please and excuse me. I believe that deep down these boys made mistakes but they are on the verge of correcting them and eventually getting themselves straightened out. During my time there I did a lot of observing, helped the teacher grade some papers and tried to help the students with their work. I also got to answer a lot of their questions and curiosity they had about college and what it was like. During class there is always a teacher and there was Mr. Rhodes for behavior purposes, if one of the students misbehaved he would take them out of the classroom and talk to them. He was also very close to the students, there was a clear bond between them. During lunch he would always put on the football channel and they would just watch and chat. Even though the teachers and Mr. Rhodes are strict and demanding with the students, I believe that is what really helps motivate them. Some of them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Film Analysis Of The Awakenings There are always losses to each pleasant situation and unfortunately in the 1990 film directed by Penny Marshall, Awakenings, this theme appears throughout. In a chronically ill hospital where Dr. Malcolm Sayer is recruited with little to no experience with people, he works with multiple patients that are in a sleep like state including Mr. Leonard Lowe. Set in the late sixties, there were not many medical advances that already existed to help these patients but Dr. Sayer makes unheard of discoveries. Many awakenings occur in this film, but with these renewals comes gains and losses. Dr. Sayer, the staff, and the patients inhabited in this Brooklyn hospital gain and lose different things with their explorations. Dr. Malcolm Sayer begins as a man full of nervousness and a lack of people skills but eventually goes through stages that lead to an awakening. Sayer is a nice man, though he likes to keep to himself because he knows no different. He has never been in an hospital for humans as his last exploration was on earthworms. The first few days at the hospital are filled with patients whom he knows nothing about being thrown at him which makes the doctor very nervous and detached from his safe lifestyle. One patient in particular interests Sayer named Leonard. Going through tests and medicine with Leonard Lowe, Malcolm s eyes begin to open. After watching Leonard go through various phases, Sayer seems to feel more confident. Dr. Sayer knows that what he has done is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Reflection After Events Analysis Conclusion: Reflection after Events. Coming back in time I enjoyed Adler s work, as it encapsulate that my personality is my goal at the time. Furthermore to my surprise everything I knew about Freud was wrong. I always assumed that what he said was exactly that. However I have not come across to any reference where he points his fingers at personality and say Take that literary . After reading his words and not opinions about him I shaped my interpretation. I started seeing him as a philosopher, an academic adventurer driven by curiosity. This was not Freudian conception I was familiar with and was far from my expectations. It seemed misleading to think that Freud s idea of personality was describing it literary. I did not think about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the planning in reflection relies on assumption of cause and effect in the thinking process. The limitation lay in timelines and approach that treats reflection as a fixed set of outcomes. By limiting uncertainty and unpredictability one may limit the originality within the conclusions achieved. All ideas that I have held dear were spontaneous scribbled on napkins, post it notes and receipts. I was not able to think well on demand. However the model helped me to concentrate and stay within boundaries of what I have expected to achieve or even reached beyond that. Before reflecting, I never believed that I enjoy reading Sigmund Freud or Alfred Adler. I would have grinned at the thought of admitting that they were more than fathers of psychology to me, a part of my course work. Nonetheless, here I am, agreeing with both theorists and holding them dear to the image of myself. Only after I counter balanced prejudice and the stereotype that was embedded in me through student perspective and only when I disregarded other s opinion. I discovered that both Adler and Freud discussed what I held personally dear, whether it was described as a challenge or desire it underlined my inner world. • 9. Corrections And The Goals For The Future On June 7, 2016, Steve Walters interviewed Jon Litscher Secretary of Wisconsin Department of Correction on his return to corrections and the goals for the future. Litscher (2016) explained how policies changed due to the ACT 10 law. The law prohibited the workers to bargain with their employers on their wages and benefits (Patterson 2015). He verbalized that one of the goals for corrections is to increase incentives such as benefits packages and pay increase for their workers. He also shared that the goals for correction is to reintegrate the inmates back into society. The stakeholders in this change include the union workers, families, inmates, and taxpayers. I did not have much history on the topic of corrections and the goals for the future. However, I have heard that some correctional officers felt that they were underpaid and with the shortages. These shortages could contribute to situations that are more dangerous for the offeiceers. I have a friend who works as a correctional officer and with these shortages, he has to work mandatory overtime or have to stay if needed. He has mentioned how frustrating it could be when trying to make and keep plans with his family. Litscher (2016) verbalized that corrections is going through a recruitment process and the classes are getting bigger and with the competitive wages and benefit packages this shortage should come to an end. Nevertheless, I was unaware that the starting pay for a correctional officer is $16, but even with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Diaphragic Pressure Essay If the therapist has access to an electronic medical record, noting transdiaphragmatic pressure from a pulmonologists evaluation is the best indicator of diaphragmatic strength. This is measured as the difference between intraabdominal pressure and intrathoracic pressure. Documenting diaphragmatic weakness as a diagnosis should be considered when evaluating breathless patients. 44 Observation will be the next tool to help identify those patients with dysfunctional breathing as a result of a poor ZOA. Other authors recommend assessment in supine with a comparison made between sitting and supine. Issues will be more pronounced in supine. A reduction in vital capacity (perceived breathlessness) or reports of orthopnea is another indicator of DD. McCool2 Mier Jedrzejowicz et al found that patients with the most severe orthopnea had the weakest diaphragms.44 In these patients, the physical therapist should also look for the abdominal paradox. In this clinical sign the weakened and flattened diaphragm contracts inwardly, as opposed to inferiorly, pulling the rib cage with it. It is a result of the change in the orientation of the diaphragm, the loss of the ZOA and its resultant ineffectiveness in moving the rib cage outwardly. The thing about Kubrick that drew me to want to explore this movie so just how bizarre and deprived it is, but yet the all of its wild and crazy parts are able to come together to create one beautiful unique dystopian future. That s very evident with the costumes which were done by Academy Award winning Italian designer Milena Canonero. The costuming in this movie is fantastic it combines looks and attitudes that are very clearly 70 s London inspired, the clothing has this mod/punk vibe to it, that felt entirely original and like a bizzaro version of today. This makes sense because in an interview Milena stated that Kubrick didn t want to make a futuristic film in a traditional science fiction way; he wanted to create something that was tomorrow something far closer to today making the movie timeless. • 19. The Themes Of Deception In William Shakespeare s Twelfth... William Shakespeare s comedic Twelfth Night is a rich romance, exploring the whirlwind of emotions such as grief, the burning desire of wanting to be loved, as well as foolery and deceit. Viola and her twin brother Sebastian have been separated at a shipwreck. Alone and scared, she disguises herself as a man to serve Duke Orsino who is madly in love with Countess Olivia. Consisting of an unfortunate love triangle between the grieving Olivia, the obsessive Orsino, and the secretive Viola, the characters get too tangled up in themselves failing to realize their love is insincere for one another. In a story full of laughter, trickery, love, and disguise, Shakespeare captures several themes that are essential in the present world. Precisely, William Shakespeare focuses on the crucial theme of deception, shining a light on how easy it is for one to be deceived, as well as how effortlessly misled we are in our everyday lives. There are two types of deception showcased in the play, including self deception, as well as deception through concealment and exaggeration. Self deception refers to when one is in denial, allowing himself to believe a situation, subconsciously knowing that it is false. For instance, when Maria wrote the love letter to Malvolio acting as Olivia, she was tricking him to believe Olivia loved him. Although Malvolio s ego is his weakness, deep down, he knew this could not be true due to the fact that he is Olivia s steward and she sees him as nothing more. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the medieval era, Europeans believed that there were two types of magic, which were called natural and demonic. As natural magic was considered to have a correlation with science as the Wolfsthurn handbook illustrated the usage of a combination of herbs and magic in conjunction. For example, using herbs to treat an illness with the addition of reciting specific words was deemed as natural magic. On the other hand, demonic magic was not thought to be a form of science but was a perverted depiction of religion. That demonic magic s power source was from demons and that words that could not be interpreted were thought to be demon names. Following the horrific human rights violations committed by the Nazis in World War II, the global community began to take the proper steps to combat the notion that being at war sanctions gross abuses of human rights. It was not a lust for violence that elongated the process of establishing the ICC (international criminal court), but rather the long time battle between accepting that the world is increasingly affected by globalization and holding fast to the age old tradition of prizing state sovereignty above all. The scale of the genocide carried out against all peoples not of Aryan descent in the 1940s was the catalyst needed to start talks about prizing guaranteed rights over the incessant need to abide by antiquated customary law. Whilst many argue that the ICC and ad hoc tribunals such as the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) fail to provide a comprehensive international legal framework, they serve other important purposes. Firstly, the ICC and its parent tribunals played a major part in ending the culture of impunity. • 30. Conflict Resolution And Child Custody Conflict Resolution Child Custody As a future marital and family therapist and even as a trainee, it is important to understand the systemic thinking behind the practice. For those therapists, like myself, that want to become experts in more an area, it is also important to delve into the theory and practice of that area. For example, child custody is a big piece to conflict resolution when it comes to thinking systemically in the family. The current divorce rate is around 50 percent and ever rising, which can be troubling yet promising when it comes to the mediation field. For the judicial system, this causes case overload, tired workers, and a lot of fees for the citizens going to the family courts. One of the biggest things that could potentially stop a family from being happy with their results is if the courts assign them custody agreements without thinking about each individual factor. Each family is different and there is no cookie cutter answer when it comes to child custody. If the family is assigned a family mediator, not only will it save long term costs, it can help ensure each party feels heard and they are voluntarily agreeing to the terms. Reasoning for Choosing Topic When assigned this paper, I had no idea what to write about, since the conflict resolution is so broad. But I sat down and thought about why I decided to take this class and why I wanted to get my mediation certificate. As I said in class, I have seen really poor mediation, I have seen ... • 32. Discourse In Shakespeare s Taming Of The Shrew Shakespeare s works reflect the values andk of his era, with the theme of societal conformity and unity necessary for harmony. The rigid stratification of societal roles evident in Taming of the Shrew are directly derived from the Elizabethan hierarchy, with power dynamics based on wealth, family name and gender, and costuming defining one s role. Discourse arises in Shakespeare s plays when a character does not conform to the expectations and code of their prescribed societal role, evident in Katherina s outgoing nature and aversion to playing her part described as a intolerable curst, shrewd, and forward . The play concludes once Katherina appears to have conformed to her position as an upper class wife and daughter, and societal harmony is achieved once more. This social disharmony is repeated numerous times throughout the play, as disguise and role reversals appear initially established in Christopher Sly, Sly s called a lord, but still is not a lord 2.6.1, the disguise of both Lucentio the wealthy student into a tutor and Tranio his servant into Lucentio himself. The most interesting use of costume is in Petruchio s marriage apparel, claiming To me she s [Katherina] married, not unto my clothes 3.2.113, as he wears lowly, poor attire. Petruchio illustrated both the inability to transgress one s self through disguise and deception, and his inherit contradiction, attempting to change Katherina s nature, she may act the wife, but she is still Katherina. Shakespeare s use of disguise and deceit adds humor to the play and creates a conclusive ending as each character s transformations are undone, with no one permanently transgressing their societal roles. Similarly, 10 Things I Hate About You utilizes characterization through contemporary American stereotypes to display a simplified social structure. This replicated Shakespeare s use of traditional social structure, within the first 5 minutes of the film, a montage of each stereotype and their corresponding place in the social hierarchy s displayed, with Michael listing each one. This archetype is prevalent throughout the teen film genre over the last 30 years, with one s wealth, physical appearance, and alignment to traditional characteristic of ... • 33. Modern Voyeurism Modern Voyeurism The Male Gaze in Disturbia As an advanced representation system the cinema possesses questions of the ways the unconscious structure ways of seeing and pleasure in looking. Feminists have been using Freud s psychoanalytical theory as a political weapon in order to deconstruct popular Hollywood cinema and how it stimulates the patriarchal culture. Even though we are more conscious about these structures nowadays, Hollywood cinema still uses the Male Gaze in order to control the identification processes of the spectator. A recent example is the thriller Disturbia (2007) by D.J. Caruso, seen as a modern interpretation of Hitchcock s Rear Window. It s a movie about a grounded teenager who starts spying on his neighbours ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At first she is isolated and therefore glamorous and sexualized. Nevertheless, as soon as Ashley gets involved with Kale and his voyeurism she becomes his property. He influences her actions. A great example is when Ashley decides to throw a party, which makes Kale jealous and decides to ruin her party so she has to come to his house to stop him. Instead of doing so, they kiss and continue spying the neighbour, exactly as Kale wanted. By means of identification with Kale, through participation in his power, the spectator can indirectly possess her too. Another notable fact about the dominance over Ashley is the fact that she is framed a lot of times within the screenshots, making her limited (see annex 2). This refers to Freud s psychoanalytical theory; females are limited because of the fact they are incomplete , missing a phallus. The paradox of phallocentrism in all its manifestations is that it depends on the image of the castrated woman to give order and meaning to its world. Therefore it s necessary to emphasize this fact in the movie. Disturbia is a great adaptation of Hitchcock s Rear Window. By using the same techniques as Hitchcock the director creates a tremendous suspense. Even though women are more empowered nowadays, he still knows how to force the Male Gaze upon our unconsciousness. Nevertheless, thanks to Mulvey s essay we are able to deconstruct these patriarchal codes. Annexes 1. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Hearing People Communication This article presented me with many observations on the way both Deaf and hearing people communicate that I had not considered before. My prior experiences as a non signing hearing person communicating with Deaf people have been limited to communicating through an interpreter or slowing down my naturally fast rate of talking so that my lips could read. Admittedly, albeit naïvely, I had never considered that I could improve my communication with other hearing people through tips and tricks that Deaf people just use naturally when communicating with one another, however, this article changed that completely. One thing that kind of surprised me a little at first is that Deaf people routinely pass messages much faster and more precisely than any hearing person. It would seem like being able to communicate orally would make getting messages across much easier, however, just thinking back to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Add on top this our tendency to speak over one another and there s a wonder we ever get anything communicated. ASL requires deaf people to not only speak one at a time, but the people listening have to give the speaker their full attention so that they can understand what has been said, which is something that hearing people could definitely improve upon. I also agree with Dr. Kahne s point that there is a huge difference between our cultures in asking for clarification. If a deaf person doesn t understand what has been said they will ask to have it repeated, whereas there seems to be a stigma against that for many hearing people. Since we don t have to have our eyes on the speaker to understand them, this allows for our eyes, and quite often also our minds, to wander. As a result we don t end up understanding all or part of what was said and then for whatever reason, instead of asking them to repeat it, we just smile and nod and pretend like we were paying attention the entire ... • 35. The Cardiovascular System And How It Affects The Body The cardiovascular system is made up of the heart, blood and blood vessels. Its function is to transport oxygen to all systems of the body. Oxygen is needed for the body systems to operate. Exercise increases the need for oxygen and causes the heart to pump faster. This in turn sends more blood through the vessels. The vessels leading from the heart are the arteries and the veins are the vessels that lead to the heart. Exercises causes the body to release a hormone called adrenalin. Adrenalin makes the blood vessels expand in order to allow more blood to flow through. The body also makes more capillaries.
