The Rhetorical Analysis Of Senator Joseph Mccarthy
In February of 1950, Senator Joseph McCarthy made a speech with the purpose of accusing
democratic representative, Alger Hiss, of working with the communist Soviets in order to convince
the American people to support the Republican party. McCarthy convinces his audience by using
syntactical devices, such as anaphoras, rhetorical questions, and parallelism.
His use of anaphoras creates an emphasis on the motive of his sentence. For example, McCarthy
states, ...groups who have been selling this nation out... [are] those who have had all the benefits
that the wealthiest nation on earth has had to offerвЂ•the finest homes, the finest college education,
and the finest jobs... By repeating finest before each aspect of life, McCarthy emphasizes the wealth
that the men he discusses have been born intoвЂ•creating conflicting images: the perfect Americans
who have had the best lives possible and those same Americans who are sabotaging the US by
encouraging communism. McCarthy repeats this tactic when he states, here is what he said, not
back in 1928, not before the war, not during the war, but two years after the last war ended. In this

meant to reveal to his audience why Americans should not succumb to the calm indifference that

The primary groups leading the prohibition movement were the Women s Christian Temperance

heard that but then I realized that it is important to never give up and it was cool that she got the

Over the next few times that I was around her, I really started to love talking to her
because our two personalities just clicked. I could have talked to her for hours and hours and

causes the reader and viewer to become suspicious of their surroundings and uneasy with the
sublime landscape due to the possibility that something evil is residing within it and give a more

is experiencing culture shock.
Culture shock always occurs to people who migrated from a native country into a new country.
In the novel, The Last Runaway by Tracy Chevalier, shows Honor the protagonist, an English
Quaker living in Bridgport, England, migrated to the US with her sister, Grace. As Grace was
supposed to engage with Adam Cox and had to join him in Ohio, Honor came with her to flee a
broken engagement. However, as Honor and Grace arrived in the US and stayed about few
weeks, Grace suffered an illness called, yellow fever and this illness killed her. As a result, Honor
faces new struggles in life, where she had to overcome by herself, adapt into the difficult lifestyle
in USA, and tell Adam about Grace s death. The novel shows how Honor sees the differences
between the US and England s nature, homes and food.
The first difference between the US and England is the nature (plants and animals). Honor felt
bewilderment in the US s nature, she never had seen a covered bridge, Thomas, an elderly man
offered Honor to take her with Adam, he notice how Honor bewilderment the nature in the US. The
bridges in her homeland were stone and humped. Also, Honor studied the trees, like the oak trees
and chestnut, but she seemed felt different how the oak leaves were more pointed and less curly.
She was accustomed to the England nature. Furthermore, she was frighten when they were
traveling in the woods, because she hears a strange animals. She had heard that the woods were
home to wolves... other animals that did not exist in England (Chevalier 17). This shows how
Honor had never heard of this animal in England, so she felt frightening because she doesn t know
