So many people do not recognize how serious of an illness mental illness is. A lot of people do not
even believe it is an actual thing. It is our job to make the public more aware and make them
more educated on how big of an issue this is and how serious it is. This film makes me want to

Personal Observation #5 Long distance running is not a sport for wimps. Distance runners seem
to have a pretty strong connection with each other because of all suffering and pain that goes

breath) exchanged between complete strangers that meet while out for a run. Cross country teams
are even more cohesive. With all the time spent together at practice, team members have a solid
bond that lasts long outside of running and practice. One the first day of track, the new freshman
who were not in cross country are a little lost. The distance runners have their little group, the
sprinters have their group, and the throwers have a group as well. The groups intermingle
somewhat, but it is fairly easy to tell who belongs in which group. You also associate people with
what track group they belong to. The track team is a group, and each discipline is a subgroup.
Even though I would not say that the subgroups are (probably) prejudiced against each other,

I would say my justifications are leading and concerning on being mindful. I would describe
mindfulness, as a way of life that is peacefully perceptive, deprived of the stimulus of cravings or
viewpoints. That is how I behave in the studio. I dominate my rational brain with technical focuses
so that it stays occupied. As I am engaged with technique a fragment of myself is allowed to
observe unrestricted by my thought process. It is that openness that truly enlightens my work.
My new body of work is a continuation of the work I have initiated earlier this year. It consists of a
series of large canvases where I am painting a distorted enlarged self. I paint with oil colors on
Italian linen canvases. This paint layer gets built up in a traditional lean to fat technique. I used to
paint women portraits, but I gradually became more interested in flesh and less in the facial

A Brief Intro/Background
This letter will no doubt be hard for many of you to read, I empathize as it was also hard to write.
I beg your patience and hope you read through to the end. What I would like to convey to you is
my recent shift in world view. That is to say that I recently came to realize that I am an atheist.
This is likely shocking to most of you. Let me be clear by what I intend to convey by identifying as
such. I do not mean to say I am opposed to religion, or claim there is no God. I still identify very
much with LDS culture and attend church regularly. Rather, I identify as an atheist as a way to
convey that I seem to have lost Faith that there is a God. Over the last year I have studied and
ponder in depth to discover as best I could truth. Before I get there I want to be clear as to the
perspective in which I am coming from.
I was raised in a very active and loving family of the LDS Church. My family is still very active,
my father and my mother have served in leadership roles. They are both full of faith and charity
and am grateful for their love and support throughout my life. I, myself have served in leadership

mission in west Texas spreading the gospel of JesusChrist as I understood it. I was married in an

about fictional characters ranging from all sorts of social classes, including the most luxurious of

to observe groups of people and develop his own opinions and ideas based on these observations
subsequently creating these characters. From his daring opinions embedded in his work, Chaucer
easily became one of the most controversial writers. In his literary work, Geoffrey Chaucer conveys
his disdain for corruption in the Church, politicians, and societal standards. In The Canterbury Tales
Chaucer indirectly proclaims his views of the Church by giving his characters involved in the

It takes more than just an army to keep America s military and personnel operating 365 days a
year at 100%, it also takes an air force and navy. The task for getting supplies, soldiers, Marines
and sailors to where they are needed in the world falls to the U.S. Transportation Command
(USTRANSCOM) and its components which is truly a herculean feat. The History Channel series
Modern Marvels featured USTRANSCOM in season 17 episode 11 which covered packaging and
the technology and creativity that it takes to create and sustain movement of all types of items and
people. In the episode the series highlighted all three major subcommands of USTRANSCOM; Air
Mobility Command, Military Sealift Commandand Military Surface Deployment and Distribution
Center. Having served four years active duty in the U.S. Navy directly after September 11, 2001
and now serving in the U.S. Navy Reserves and just recently returning from a deployment
overseas to the Horn of Africa I have had firsthand experience with the services of

When thinking of the figures in the church, they are thought to be loyal, respectful, giving, and
dedicated. Sadly to say this, but not all figures follow that description. In
The Canterbury Tales , Chaucer shows the corruption of the church in the medieval period through
some of his characters, particularly through the Nun, the Monk, and the Friar. Yet, Chaucer does
show one character, the Parson, as goodness and holiness in the church. Nuns are member of a
religious order for women, living in a convent under vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Their

abandoned the world for religious reasons and devote their lives, either separately or in a
community, to spiritual perfection. The vows of celibacy, poverty, and obedience under which
they live, are termed the religious counsels. A person bound by such vows is known as a religious.
Chaucer s Monk s sport was hunting. The Rule of good Saint Benet or Saint
Maur (Prologue, 177) says hunters are not holy men (Prologue, 182). He does not keep to his
studies, but instead would rather be doing labor. In addition, he holds worldly possessions, such as
his wrought gold cunningly fashioned pin (Prologue,
200), which shows that he has money. Friars differ from monks, in that the monk was attached to a
specific community within which he led a withdrawn life, having no direct contact with the secular
world.
Friars, on the other hand, belonged to no particular monastic house, but to a general order and
worked as an individual in the non religious world. Thus, friars and monks are not on synonymous
terms. Friars are members of certain religious orders who practice the principles of monastic life
and devote themselves to the service of humanity in the secular world.
