Sample Argument Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of "Sample Argument Essay" can be both challenging and
rewarding. The difficulty arises from the need to articulate a coherent and persuasive argument
while adhering to the principles of essay structure and academic writing. Crafting a well-
organized essay requires a clear understanding of the chosen topic, the ability to critically analyze
information, and effective communication skills.
One of the challenges is finding a balance between presenting a compelling argument and
maintaining objectivity. It requires extensive research to gather relevant evidence and examples
to support your claims. You must also anticipate counterarguments and address them thoughtfully
to strengthen your overall position.
The process of writing involves careful planning and organization. You need to create a strong
thesis statement that encapsulates your main argument and outlines the direction of your essay.
Building a logical and coherent flow of ideas is essential to guide the reader through your
argument seamlessly.
Additionally, maintaining proper essay structure, including a well-developed introduction, body
paragraphs, and a conclusive conclusion, is crucial. Each paragraph should contribute to the
overall argument, and transitions between ideas should be smooth to ensure a cohesive narrative.
Moreover, the mastery of language is vital. Your writing should be clear, concise, and engaging.
Choosing appropriate vocabulary and sentence structures enhances the persuasiveness of your
essay. However, striking this balance can be a complex task, requiring careful consideration of
your target audience and the intended tone of your piece.

Animal Captivity Dilemma
The Dilemma of Animal Captivity Animal captivity is an extremely important, and
often overlooked problem that we, as human beings, have placed on nature and the
animals that live in the endangered environment. There are groups of people
worldwide who are extremely against animal captivity because of the drastic and
permanent effects it leaves on the animals. These ideas of hatred against animal
captivity are expressed in small ways such as posting a picture on Instagram that
represents animal cruelty in captivity. Another way these ideas can be expressed is
through large representations such as movies. Films such as Jurassic World and
Blackfish are prime examples of this. Both of these films are representing the severe
repercussions that can come from keeping large, dangerous animals in captivity.
Though Jurassic World is a fictional movie, it is able to send the message that
having animals that are dangerous in captivity is something that is very dangerous.
Blackfish offers a real and terrifying glimpse into what happens to the mindset of
animals who are put into captivity and the threat that those animals pose to not only
other animals in captivity but also the humans who are in charge of looking after
these animals. This problem of taking animals away from their natural habitat and
placing them in captivity is a prime example of how humanity is trying to assert
itself as dominant of everything else. Mankind has thought of itself as a protector of
the wild animals by
A Small Bundle Of Specialized Cells
A small bundle of specialized cells located in the right atrium of the heart called the
Sinus node is where the impulse of the heart starts. The electrical activity spreads
through the walls of the atria and causes them to contract. This forces blood into the
ventricles which sets the rate and rhythm of the heartbeat. A pacemaker is needed to
maintain an adequate heart rate, either because the heart s natural pacemaker sinus
node is not fast enough or there is a block in the heart s conduction system.
Growing knowledge of the human body led to the experimentation of a wide range of
electrotherapies by pioneering scientists and physicians. These techniques employed
both direct current and static electricity. It was already known that ... Show more

Electrostimulation is needed when the heart cannot generate electrical signals by
itself. A pacemaker electrically stimulates the heart and consists of a battery, pulse
generator, wires and electrodes. Functionally, the pacemaker must match the action
(electrical) potential produced by a working sinus node (Testing a Pacemaker 2016).
The battery generates power for the pacing system. It produces electricity as a result
of a chemical reaction. In its simplest form a battery consists of an anode, electrolyte,
separator and cathode. Pacemaker batteries are composed of Lithium Iodine.
Lithium acts as an anode and provides electrons and the Iodine acts as a cathode,
receiving electrons. The anode and cathode are separated by electrolytes which
serves as a conductor of ionic movement but as a barrier to electron transfers (Butler,
n.d). The battery voltage depends on the chemical composition of the Lithium Iodine.
At the Beginning of Life (BOL) of the battery produces around 2.8 volts. At the
Elective Replacement Indicator point in which 90% of battery life has been used the
battery generates at around 2.4 volts. This rate decreases exponentially until the End
of Life (EOL) is reached and the battery generates around 1.8 volts. The contributing
factors to the longevity of the pacemaker include chemical composition of the battery,
the size of the battery, the amount of internal discharge, voltage
Essay on Transportation and How it Affects Logistics
Transportation is one of the largest industries in the world. It is the most costly and
time consuming of the supply chain. Transportation refers to the movement of
products and raw materials from one destination to another. This process begins from
the supply chain to the shipping of the finished product to the consumer. For we
know that products are rarely produced in the same location. We as people depend on
transportation because it moves goods and people from one place to another.
Transportation is a key element in the logistic chain. It joins together those
components that are considered to be separated. In order for transportation and
logistics to work together successfully, there must be good management between
them. It plays a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To achieve the lowest total cost means that financial and human assets committed to
logistics must be held to an absolute minimum (Pieplow, Daniel, Calhoun [Pg. 29]).
SCM can be divided into three main groups: purchase, manufacture, and transport
(Thomas et al., 1996). The focus is on transportation. There are different modes of
transportation. These modes of transportation fall under three basic types and they
are: land (road, rail and pipelines), water (shipping) and air. Transportation plays a
connective role among the several steps that result in the conversion of resources into
useful goods for the ultimate consumer. It is the planning of all these functions and
sub functions into a system of goods movement in order to minimize cost and
maximize service to the customers that constitutes the concept of business logistics.
The system, once it s put in place, must be effectively managed (Fair Williams,
1981). What are the advantages and disadvantages of these modes of transportation in
logistics?
Initially, there is the mode of land transportation. Roads, rails and pipelines fall
under this category. These land logistics are very important because they extend the
delivery services for air and water transport from airports and seaports. The main
transport mode of land logistics are railway, road freight and pipeline transport. The
advantage of railway transport is that it has carrying capacity and lower influences by

The World Theory, And This Term Basically Means
In the textbook, it mentions of a term called Carpentered World Theory and this term
basically means that it is a perception about how individual s at least most American
individuals see things that are shaped in a form of a rectangle unconsciously (Juang
Matsumoto, Chapter 5, pg. 122). As for the lecture notes, it mentions how our culture
is used to seeing objects in a rectangleshape (Lecture notes). Thus is true, we see
rectangle shapes all the time while driving from place to place. For example would
be the rectangle shape highway signs that we notice while driving past them.
Another example would be the signs that say do not turn right on red; these signs are
in the form of a rectangle. Lastly, is our cell phones; our modern... Show more content

In regards to the Mueller Lyer illusion, the textbook mentions how Rivers stated
that most English saw the two lines more differently than any other cultural groups
such as India or New Guinea (Juang Matsumoto, Chapter 5, pg. 122). I decided to
try an experiment with the Mueller Lyer Illusion. I decided to ask 3 close friends
of mine that are typical Americans. All but one was fooled by this illusion. Then, I
decided to ask 3 friends of mine that are from a different culture, one of them lives
in Australia, one is Korean and one was Native American. My friend who lives in
Australia was fooled by this illusion, whereas the Korean and Native American
friend of mine stated it was the same length but the arrows were oppositely flipped.
I thought this was extremely interesting how each culture was either fooled or not
fooled by this illusion. This proves to show that cultures could in fact view optical
illusions differently because of either how they were raised or how they see the
world in a different light than others in views on how they interpret objects. In
regards to the recognition of objects within a visual scene there are uniquely clear
differences between Americans and Japanese individuals. According to the textbook,
it mentions how Masuda and Nisbett (2001) did a research study that asked Japanese
and Americans to view an animated scene and then to recall how many objects were
within that scene and how they found that there was
Social Stability In Brave New World Essay
Brave New World
Social stability is the role to maintain social justice and promote social progress and
stability by identifying and addressing social issues, such as child abuse or
communism. Providing customized services to meet individual needs of target
groups. The cost of maintaining social stability is not worth the price because it
requires citizens have happiness. In order to achieve ultimate happiness, citizens need
to know the struggle and acknowledge their feelings while facing them head on
instead of bottling them up inside.
According to online research, feelings are an emotional state or reaction that the
person feels within. There are multiple types of feelings such as anger, love, fear,
sadness, and many more that everyone feels. In Brave New Worldthere are no
painful emotions or emotions that cause psychological or physical pain, everyone
is blindly happy in which creates social stability. It would be impossible to help
people emotionally if we do not know what they feel or how they are feeling.
Feelings are vital for reproduction and relationships and so much more. Feelings are
also a good cornerstone for today s society because there are a lot of people that get
offended for misunderstandings. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The feelings of trust, loyalty, and commitment are the start of a good healthy
relationship. After a long healthy relationship, the next stage of the love is
marriage. Marriage is a long life commitment in which involves love, trust, and
loyalty if done right it is possible to find the love of your life. Relationships are
important because the risk of isolation in one s life is comparable to the risk
associated with unhealthy addictions. Emotions reach beyond the realm of feeling
and influence people in ways far less obvious than might be expected. Emotions can
affect your mood if something dramatic happens which can lead to stress and

In the U.S soccer or football hasn t caught on quite just yet. Even though the
American people have had recent success like in the 2002 World Cup and the 2009

long time to gain momentum in the United States because Americans put more

The US finally made it to the semi finals of the World Cup in 1930, which

Reflection Of My Family
The photo that I have chosen to reflect on depicts me sitting on a large green chair
with my brother. I was anywhere from five to eight, and he was around eleven or
thirteen. He is looking out of frame and has one of those old CD players from the
nineties in his lap, his hands hovering over its silver hardware, frozen in a hesitant
stance. He looks entertained, or maybe just distracted. He has what my familycalls his
Harry Potter glasses perched somewhat low on his nose, and true to the late nineties
and early 2000scommon style, his black hair is spiked up. Beside him is me, in a
light shirt, wearing the thin headphones that accompanied the CD player in his lap.
I look either deep in thought and like I am taking in the music very thoroughly or
very uncomfortable. I will let you in on a hint: I was very uncomfortable. My
brother, Jackson, is six or seven years older than I am. He is rather quiet and
reserved like myself, although it is more obvious on him than it is on me. When
we were younger I was four, my sister was six, and Jackson was eight our father
decided that he liked another woman better than our mother, and left us. Jackson
does not like dealing with situations like that, that have deep emotional
repercussions, and more or less shut himself off to the world. That included me. I
am very sensitive on as to whether or not people want to interact with me, and as a
baseline, I pretty much avoid interacting with people unless it is pretty clear that they
want me to. I was not as good at it as I am now when I was young, so I just generally
did not interact with anyone at all as a baseline. My sister and I have always been
somewhat close even if she did not like me at all when I was younger but Jackson
and I never talked. I was intimidated. He was so much older than me! He was
responsible! He made good grades! He liked complicated things like cars and he was
so well spoken! I remember when this picture was taken. It was either late Summer
or anytime in the Spring. The large chair we are sitting in had a window to our right,
and a door to a backyard to our left and not fifteen feet away from us. I have always
been interested in music, and Jackson has always liked good music, and a few

was launched, there was immediately alot of buzz over the product. Maybe it was
because the product contained Zinc Vitanol, an ingredient not used in any other anti
dandruff shampoo. Or maybe it was just because it was marketed well, having high
quality television commercials and the international pop star, Rain, as its endorser.

In addition, the commercial mentions that the group is composed of ten million

are using the product, then it must be effective and good. And in the same
commercial they have three elite Filipino celebrities to further persuade consumers
into buying the product. This part would be similar to the first commercial with
Rain, but more appealing to the Filipino market, basically because the endorsers in
these commercials are Filipino celebrities. Another important factor seen in every
Clear advertisement is the use of the color black. Their campaign has always
emphasized that the color black meant freedom from dandruff. If you think about it,
the color black for Clear can symbolize shiny black hair, or confidence; because
wearing black is often avoided by those who suffer from dandruff. And this was
creative; it makes the advertisements unique and eye catching because they re the
only advertisements wherein the people, the background, and pretty much everything
is colored black. Black is mysterious, classy, and elegant, and it makes it seem as
though the Clear commercials were perfume commercials, which makes them unique.
It makes consumers feel as though they re buying a premium product, even though
the product is actually just about 10 pesos more expensive than regular anti dandruff

With these two interactions we see the differences of physical intimacy vs. emotional
intimacy. Even though Alaska and Miles where never physically intimate, besides a
quick kiss, the emotions flowing through him as it happened where much more
lively and intense than when Miles had his hog smoked (Green 129). When Alaska
falls asleep atop of Miles that same night, he says, I love you Alaska Young (Green
131). Love is something Miles never expresses for Lara because they lacked the
emotional intimacy that Alaska and Miles shared. Now whether or not sixth graders
would comprehend the complex theme of intimacy is not likely. The book requires
the reader to understand intimacy in a context pass the inert idealism of middle
schoolers and most high schoolers. Just because someone is sexually active does
not mean they fully grasp the emotional connectivity that two people romantically
share. Even though a sixth grader could definitely have the ability to read the words
in this book, it s likely that a central theme needed to understand Miles actions later
in the book would go completely unnoticed by someone so young of an age, in fact it
nearly went over my own head whilst reading.
Two days after. We should have stopped her (Green 19), said Miles, two days after
the death of Alaska Young. The girl who became his obsession, who gave him a sense

damaging statements in the history of the Supreme Court, involving the citizenship

opinions that Roger Taney, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and how we look at
it. The court had announced its decision on March 6, 1857. By a 7 2 vote, the court
ruled against Scott. Of the seven opinions written by the members of the majority,
Chief Justice Taney s is considered to present the forma; view of the Court, and I
think that these are the most damaging statements in the case. Taney first dealt with
the issues of whether Dredd Scott or any slave or descendant of slaves could be a

majority of the court that: they (slaves) are not, and that they are not included, and
were not intended to be included, under the word citizen in the US constitution, and
can, therefore, claim none of the rights and privileges which that instrument provides
for and secures to citizens of the United
States.
Taney drew this conclusion from an examination of historical practices and the intent
of the Framers of the Constitution. Slaves, he said, had more than a century before
the Constitution came into existence been regarded as being of an inferior order, and
all together unfit to associate with the white race, in social or political relations; and

the mortal flesh must be sacrificed to cleanse the soul. The statement has played an

of nutritionand starvation into their works; they put the characters through the
consequences of being nourished or starved and bring the relationship between
physical health and spirituality into question. In face, the direct references to food

Throughout the novel, the person who physically serves Jane a plate of food is seen
as a character that she (Jane) looks up to. In Gateshead, Bessie is the one person

the role of the mother/god like figure to the neglected child that had not felt

Algebra And Algebraic Thinking Sets Essay
Algebra is a major mathematical strand that has been incorporated across all year
levels within the Victorian Curriculum. The many components within and
interrelated with algebra and algebraic thinking sets children up, not only for formal
algebra in high school, but for life (Reys, et al., 2012). This paper will be addressing
some of the main ideas and understandings associated with Algebra. Key skills,
strategies and ways of thinking will also be explored along with strategies for
teaching the content effectively.
Literature review (up to 800 words)
Algebra is a critical aspect of mathematics which provides the means to calculate
unknown values. According to Bednarz, Kieran and Lee (as cited in Chick Harris,
2007), there are three basic concepts of simple algebra: the generalisation of patterns,
the understanding of numerical laws and functional situations. The understanding of
these concepts by children will have an enormous bearing on their future
mathematical capacity. However, conveying these algebraic concepts to children can
be difficult due to the abstract symbolic nature of the math that will initially be
foreign to the children. Furthermore, each child s ability to recall learned numerical
laws is vital to their proficiency in problem solving and mathematical confidence. It
is obvious that teaching algebra is not a simple task. Therefore, the importance of
quality early exposure to fundamental algebraic concepts is of significant importance
to allow all
The Elements Of Critical Thinking As A Critical Thinker
Critical thinking is that mode of thinking about any subject, content, or problem in
which the thinker improves the quality of his or her thinking by skillfully taking
charge of the structures inherent in thinking and imposing intellectual standards
upon them. (Paul and Elder, 2014). Like going to the gym, deciding to go back to
school to improve your way of life, or saving for a long awaited vacation, critical
thinking similarly requires a self controlled, well organized, and strategic order of
procedures in an effort to reach your intended goal successfully. Additionally, along
this path of success, a thinker may find themselves in a self correcting stage, as one
may attempt to allow their biases, partiality, or ill informed thoughts to take control.
However, a well refined critical thinker can ascertain this success by actively and
expertly enhancing their quality of thought. This attribute is achieved by
implementing specific concepts; such as theory development, exploration,
construction, and/or the investigation of material assembled. According to Paul and
Elder, Excellence in thought must be systematically cultivated . Therefore, a critical
thinker, must purposely put in the work to accomplish success. Richard Paul and
Linda Elder created a critical thinking framework that consists of three major
components: 1. The elements of thought; which is your basis for reasoning, 2. the
intellectual standards; which are applied to the elements of reasoning, and 3.
intellectual traits; which are produced from the application of discipline.
The Elements of Thought
According to Paul and Elder (1997), there are two essential dimensions of thinking
that students need to master in order to learn how to upgrade their thinking. They
need to be able to identify the parts of their thinking, and they need to be able to
assess their use of these parts of thinking. The elements of thought consist of 8 key
mechanisms; which helps the thinker to implement reasoning on different aspects on
each thought level. 1.Purpose: All reasoning has a purpose; therefore, it is the
thinker s responsibility to understand the purpose, goals and objectives of any given
concept to satisfy a specific wish and justify some need. 2.
English Professor Interview
For my interview I chose my English professor because she is somewhat a harsh
critic when it come to our papers and in class work. Instead of making an office
appointment she asked me to do this interview after class. To start off my interview I
thanked her for her time and the availability to meet with her. I then moved into the
first question, What colleges did you attend? Elaine Minamide attended community
collegeat Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Ca. where she earned her
Associates degree. She speaks very fondly of her Community college days
remembering the times when she would enroll into a class and then change her
mind, dropping the course, which we all have experienced at some point in our
college career. Minamide then transferred to Cal State Long... Show more content on

After completing her Bachelors, she transferred again to UCLA for their graduates

explanation of her college background I quickly moved on to the third, Why did
you choose your major? This is always an interesting question, some of us find our
way to our major and some of us know it from the beginning but Minamide s
answer to this question was beyond my favorite reasoning, she stated, English was
my favorite subject and we all tend to gravitate towards what we love to do. I
found this interesting, in my life time I ve only known a hand full of people who
can make that statement, most like English because their so good at it, but in some
ways I completely understand it. Which leads in to my last question with Minamide,
Why did you decide to be a community college instructor? This question for me was
probably the only part of the interview that I found nerve racking, in some ways this
question could be taken in the wrong context. But all seemed fine, she
Characteristics Of A True Friend
What really is the qualities of a true friend? Most friends come and go but are true
friends are the ones that are going to stick around forever. These friends are the
ones we trust with are deepest darkest secrets that perhaps no one should ever
know. They may also be the kindest person you will ever meet. While true friends
will also be there supporting any decision, you make whether it s a smart decision
or a stupid one. But one of the best friends you can have is the one that will tell you
the truth even if it hurts. Personal experiences has demonstrated to me that friends
all have different purpose to why they are a true friend. My friend Christina
demonstrates the quality of kindness. She and I have been friends ever since
middle school. Ever since then we have been through a lot together, somethings no
one will know. When I meant Christina, she did not know at first it a rough time in
my life. Having a lot of classes together helped us become closer friends to the
point she saw the problems. She was a kind sole that helped me through a rough
part in my life and I m thankful I meant her. However, I come to find out that she
was having trouble in her life too. She told me that I was the only one she felt
comfortable talking to about her problems. When this happened, I kind of laughed in
side thinking all the crap I put her through with my problems I could return the favor.
One might conclude, we are still good friends even after having some rough patches

Social Challenges In Social Work
The resilience and determination of people through adverse conditions has been a
driving force in the reasons I choose this profession, and why I continue to choose it
every day. In particular, family challenges have been an interest of mine, and I have
always been captivated in understanding the social layers which affect their lives.
My family has undergone adverse circumstances, which has resulted in
intergenerational trauma. My sister had three children who were removed from
her care and placed for closed adoption, as a result of her ongoing mental health
challenges. When my first nephew was born, I re experienced significant
traumatic childhood events; he was placed into protective care. I was not aware of
the apprehension plan. As someone who was invested in this child s life, I stepped
up to be a significant family member. At the time I was the only family member
able to have visitation with him, thus stepping into a maternal role. His birth and
eventual adoption was a turning point in my life. It forced me into a position where
I had to become completely estranged from my biological family. At that moment, I
decided I needed to be a part of changing the social injustices I experienced and
witnessed through obtaining a bachelor of social work.
I grew up in a home environment that did not value education, and in which I entered
various social systems, one being children protection. I have witnessed and
experienced oppression and the effects of becoming an
Airport Security Research Paper
Many years ago airport security was not even an issue. People felt secure and safe
and rarely worried about being searched. As time went on, the prevealance of
terrorism became an increasing issue. There began more acts of terrorism by
threatening and holding hostages on board commercial planes. As these acts
continued, the government as well as citizens became vulnerable and an airport
safety procedure was implemented as a way to ensure the safety of the United
States. The implemented procedures over the years included a check and scan of
all carry on and checked baggage, body scans, hire government airport employees,
and a strict list of carry on items. This made travelers feel safer as it decreased the

Thirty years ago, a man named Martin Annis invented a fully body X ray scanner
(Nickisch). After 9/11 and a few terrorist s attacks, airports finally became interested
in this scanner. The person behind the push for heightened security is Michael
Chertoff, the head of the Department Homeland Security (Nickisch). Today he is
the cofounder of the Chertoff group, which is a risk management and security
consulting company and is one of the biggest manufactures of body imaging
screening machines (Nickisch). Michael Chertoff represents some of the
manufactures that make this technology. So perhaps his interests in body scanners
and security is not just about protecting the American people. He seems to be
abusing his relationship with the public by pretending to be a public servant and
how these scanners are going to make us safer. He stands to benefit because he is
getting paid by the manufacturing companies to go all over the television network
saying these scanners are the solution to security. Flying now is even more
bothersome then ever before with the new procedures after 9/11. These body
scanners became nicknamed Nude o scopes for the intrusive naked pictures they
create. These body scanners see through clothes but not through the body itself,
leaving the possibility for some to hidemalicious items internally. I am sure there
are ways around this system to try and detonate bombs during the flights. Do they

Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant ( Npp )
Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) was one of the biggest NPP that was
supposed to move Ukraine, the former USSR to advanced stages of development by
providing energy. The headquarters was located in Moscow regulated by the USSR
Ministry of Energy, or Minenergo. In April 1970, the main stakeholder and director
/leader of the Chernobyl NPP was Viktor Bryukhanov, who came from Tashkent the
capital of Uzbekistan. He was dismissed from his position after the Chernobyl tragedy
and sentenced to ten years in prison. (Zhukova, 2016). There is s lot of confusion

Moreover, Soviet nuclear experts realized that there was not only unauthorized
experiment and operators fault but there was more to the catastrophe. With
Gorbachev s honest politics steadily taking result, newly encouraged Soviet media
began to publish accounts that held responsible the reactor s construction (Schmid,
2011). However, this crisis involved the most famous nuclear scientist of the Soviet
Union Anatolii Aleksandrov and close coworker of Igor Kurchatov, who developed
the atomic bomb for the Soviet Union (Schmid, 2011). Anatolii Aleksandrov was
blamed for being accountable for holding too many authoritative positions at the same
time when Chernobyl explosion occurred. Additionally, he was blamed for avoiding
complaints concerning operational complications with RBMKs (light water cooled,
graphite moderated reactors) as he was the head of Interdepartmental Technical
Council MVTS, which was the most authoritative decision making organization for
Soviet nuclear energy guiding principles (Schmid, 2011). Before 1986, Soviet had a
civilian agency Minenergo (the Ministry for energy and Electrification), which
regulated the majority of the country s NPPs. However, this agency was not liable to
the KGB, but to the Planning Commission (Gosplan), the Soviet economy s principal
coordinating agency (Schmid, 2011). The main
Electrodes Are Another Way Of Getting Signals From The
Brain
Intraparenchymal Electrodes are another way of getting signals from the brain. This
method holds much more promising results than EEG because the receiver is placed
directly in the brain of subject, getting many more, clearer signals. This allows more
in depth control of 3 dimensional objects such as robotic arms. With enough
concentration and practice, a person can even use the arm for basic motor functions
such as eating and lifting objects. Intraparenchymal Electrodes have been a huge
breakthrough in the study of neuroprosthetics, and further test show that humans
actually have the capability to pick up sensitive objects such as cups of water and
eggs, though the arms still don t have the ability to create the sense of touch, making it

So to reiterate, while intraparenchymal electrodes are much more fruitful in results
than EEG due to less interference between the scanner and the brain, its downfalls are
rather prominent as well because of its invasiveness, and the body s natural reaction
to its presence.
The final method of neural recording is electrocorticography or ECoG. This
method, compared to the previous two methods could be considered the best
option to record neural activity. The reason being that it s a mixture of both of the
other methods in a way. The way this method works is that recorders are placed
directly on surface of the brain, in order to get clear signals without interference
from the skull and scalp. The difference between ECoG and intraparenchymal
electrodes however, is the fact that ECoG does not penetrate the brain, but rather it
sits on top of the brain. This avoids the problem of the brain growing around it, and
in turn does not affect the signals strength in anyway, allowing a more permanent
solution for neuroprosthetics limbs to be practically used. This method trumps the
last two methods in speed and practicality. Where EEG is limited to moving cursors
on computers at a relatively slow pace, requiring major concentration and practice,
when tested ECoG was able to get the same results at a fraction of the time and
effort. in addition, while intraparenchymal electrodes are capable of basic motor

Christ Crucifixion
The Dream of The Rood is considered one of the finest of religious poems written
during the Anglo Saxon period (Book). The poem begins with the narrator, whom
the reader later discovers is the rood, stating that he or she is going to talk about a
dream. In said dream, the most beautiful tree is spotted glistening with gold and
gems; the tree then begins to bleed from the right side. The entirety of the poem is
describing, from the rood s point of view, the crucifixionof JesusChrist. The poem
has many aspects of Anglo Saxon literature, and differs in several ways from the
actual bible telling of the crucifixion; in The Dream of The Rood, Jesus is depicted
as more of an anglo saxon like warrior, the cross endures more pain than Jesus
himself, and
Before the belief of the afterlife in Heaven, derived heavily from Christianity, men
believed that they would be remembered for generations to come solely by the
heroic and chivalrous acts they had done in their lifetime. The typical Anglo Saxon
hero was a warrior; he was strong, intelligent, courageous and willing to fight to
death for the love of their lords or kings (Kundu). The poet of The Dream of The

stating that he is eager to plunge into battle. In The Dream of The Rood, Christ is
illustrated as having strength, vigor, and courage just like
Effects Of Poverty In Nigeria
Poverty is a multidimensional phenomenon. Poverty is a denial of choices and
opportunities, a violation of human dignity. It means lack of basic capacity to
participate effectively in society. It means not having enough to feed and clothe a
family, not having a school or clinic to go to; not having the land on which to grow
one s food or a job to earn one s living, not having access to credit. It means
insecurity, powerlessness and exclusion of individuals, households and communities.
It means susceptibility to violence, and it often implies living on marginal or fragile
environments, without access to clean water or sanitation. It has risen in Nigeriawith
almost 100 million people living on less than $1 a day, despite economic growth,
statistics have shown. The ethical theory associated with this is the egoism theory
which I picked as in place of the Nigerian leaders who only look out for their
families. Comparing this economy and government to that of Dubai is overwhelming
as everyone knows Dubai for its vast expense of riches and brilliant government.
In Nigeria, widespread and severe poverty is a reality. It is a reality that depicts a lack
of food, clothes, education and other basic amenities. Severely poor people lack
the most basic necessities of life to a degree that it can be wondered how they
manage to survive. There are several effects and deficiencies associated with
poverty in Nigeria. One of the main effects of poverty is poor health, as is reflected

Issues
First and foremost, the most pressing issue and reason for the current greenways
project rests on the desire of the citizenry to realize and exercise alternative means of
transportation. Indiana, like most mid western states, is heavily dependent upon
fossil fuels and recognizes the strong hold that fuel economies have on its citizens. In
Life After Oil Jeremiah Creedon states, Oil supplies are dwindling and much faster
than most business, government, and even environmental leaders recognize.
Problems are already appearing in the form of climbing gasoline prices, electricity
shortages, and skyrocketing heating bills. 3

Texas Government
Texas is the second most populous state as well as the second largest state in the
United States of America (Brown, Langenegger, Garcia, Lewis, Biles, 2014). With a
huge number of people currently calling Texas their home, it would make sense to
draw the conclusion that the Texas government must make this state a great place to
live by serving its citizens to the best of its abilities. However, it is best not to make
assumptions and in order to ascertain whether the local governmentactually fulfills
this role we must look at multiple aspects of the government. To assess how well the
government of Texas meets the needs of its citizens we first must look at the

This is an area where public opinion and public policy match in that they both
heavily favor regressive taxation (Brown et al., 2014). Tausanovitch and Warshaw
(2013) have developed a means of understanding political preference in comparison
with public opinion and public policy to determine whether a government is best
serving the desires of its people. This type of tool would be very useful for the
state of Texas to use to determine whether the government is serving the desires of
its constituents. But, just because public opinion and public policy line up doesn t
mean that the interests of citizens are best served because some groups may still be
left out and those groups may have more needs than others. Texas current
operational stance of pay as you go makes for a very tight budget where the
government cannot always afford to spend money on things the citizens of Texas
may need. For instance, Texas operates its roads with the same pay as you go
mentality by opting for toll roads (Brown et al., 2014). Toll roads receive some
government funding through state issued bonds and the collection of tolls after
completion. This system is hardly fair for the citizens who do not use the toll roads
but still must subsidize them through taxpayer dollars when the toll revenue does not
meet the projected earnings. There are also many more citizens in Texas who live
below the poverty line, 18.4% for Texas in comparison to 15.1% for the entire United
States (Brown et al., 2014). With a larger proportion of citizens in poverty the
burden to the state becomes greater, especially when funding remains low (Insert
citation). Texas is just hurting its citizens by not being able to provide as much
support and assistance to them as possible. Texas was given the opportunity, along
with every other state in the union, to expand its offering of Medicaid under the
Affordable Care Act. A sample of public opinion was obtained

competition are often overlooked. These types of sales promotions may play a more
positive role of adding entertainment value for what is paid (Wakefield Barnes,
1996). Lichtenstein, Netemeyer, and Burton (1995), on the other hand, classified
sales promotions into price or non price promotions. Notwithstanding, price based
value increasing promotions have the potential to erode the image of the company as
consumers often use price as a surrogate measure of quality (Tellis Gaeth, 1990).
In contrast, value added promotions tend to offer the customer something extra,
which might provide the customer with extra incentives to purchase the product
(Peattie Peattie, 1995). Along that line, the central

premise of the research by Chandon, Wansink, and Laurent (2000) is that the value
that sales promotions have for brands or for customers is related to the value. Several
researchers (Henderson, 1987; Schneider Currim, 1991) claim that sensitivity to
different types of sales promotion might explain different promotional responses.
Following this rationale, the primary objective of this study is to focus on the sales
promotion techniques offered by Hong

Computing Machinery And Intelligence By Alan Turing
In his paper Computing Machinery and Intelligence, Alan Turing sets out to answer
the question of whether machines can think in the same humans can by
conceptualizing the question in concrete terms. In simple terms, Turing redefines the
question by posing whether a machine can replicate the cognition of a human being.
Yet, some may object to the notion that Turing s new question effectively captures the
nature of machines capacity for thought or consciousness, such as John Searle. In his
Chinese room thought experiment, Searle outlines a scenario that implies machines
apparent replication of human cognition does not yield conscious understanding.
While Searle s Chinese thought experiment demonstrates how a Turing test is not
sufficient to establish that a machine can possess consciousness or thought, this
argument does not prove that machines are absolutely incapable of consciousness or
thought. Rather, given the ongoing uncertainty of the debate regarding the
intelligence of machines, there can be no means to confirm or disconfirm the
conscious experience of machines as well as the consciousness of humans by
extension of that principle. In attempting to answer the question of whether machines
are able to think, Turing redesigns the question around the notion of machines
effectiveness at mimicking human cognition. Turing proposes to gauge such
effectiveness by a variation of an imitation game, where a man and a woman are
concealed from an interrogator who makes
Emily Dickinson I Am Nobody
I am nobody (Emily Dickinson). This American poet lived much of her life in
reclusive isolation; however, her vividness style and integrity of vision made her
one of America s most important poets. She was born on December 10, 1830 and
died on May 15, 1886 , in Amherst, Massachusetts. She came from a prominent New
Englandfamily, her father, Edward Dickinson, a Yale University lawyer, was a judge
in Amherst, a representative in the Chamber of Deputies of Massachusetts, a senator
in the state capital and finally a representative of the state of Massachusetts in the
Washington Congress. Emily Norcross her mother, William Austin Dickinson

Greed In Snow Country
In the novel of Snow Country by Yasunari Kawabata, this is a wary relationship
between a wedded guest and a geisha at a hot spring. Kawabata creates a love story
that results into nothing. He creates the theme of wasted effort between them.
Through out the book, two situations of wasted effort is the hobbies they took up and
their relationship. Between the two of them they had little to nothing in common but
what brought them together was a little bit of luck and knowledge.
The first situation of wasted effort in the novel is the hobby the two main characters
had. Shimamura loves and dedicates his time into the study of occidental dance.

between the two of them was not going to work well. This relationship has gotten
too far and he needs to end it soon. Being a wedded visitor who visits once or twice

Emergency Obstetric Care

Phase 1: Prospective baseline collection
The quality improvement team in the maternal and child center of this hospital
decided to work on this project. This phase was to assess where they currently were
in terms of decision to incision interval. They agreed to collate a prospective
baseline, which was meant to be tracked daily.
Prior to this improvement idea, the time a decision to perform an emergency
caesarean section was not routinely documented in the patient s folder; however, time
of skin incision could be found in the theater notes written by the anesthetics. As a
result, retrospective baseline data could not be collected. In order to improve

Abstract
Throughout the years scientists and researchers have done many studies that pertain
to how mutagens cause mutations in genes. They have also studied these mutations
to see if they transfer to the next generation or whether the DNA repairs the mutation
before it gets passed on. In this lab we will be looking at the mutagen ethyl
methanesulfonate (EMS) and how it will affect our organism Caenorhabditis
elegans (C. elegans). EMS is known to be mutagenic and carcinogenic because it
can produce significant levels of alkylation at oxygens of guanine and in the DNA
phosphate groups. It can also produce GC to AT transition mutations and vice
versa. There has also been evidence that EMS is able to break chromosomes (Sega).
We hypothesize that when we expose the C. elegans to the EMS, a mutation will
occur on the DNA that will cause a phenotype to occur in the organism that is
different from the wild type. Our goal is to be able to locate the mutation on a gene,
and match it to other kingdoms to see if they are homologous to other genes. This is
beneficial to us as humans

2011: Arizona Monument Fire Devastates Over 30,000 Acres Within the Huachuca
Mountains. This paper will cover the scope of the events of the Monument Fires as
well as the basic summary of need for the State of Arizona for Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA) funding. Background. On June 12, 2011 in Sierra
Vista, Arizona a city near the Mexican border, a suspected human caused fire was
started within the Coronado National Monument Park, along the southern tip of
the Huachuca Mountains in Southern Arizona and quickly shot through the
canyons south of the city of Sierra Vista. Over the course of 14 days, the wildfire
burned to some extent 100% of the park s acreage; destroyed a total of 62 homes,
18 outbuildings and 4 businesses (Youberg Pearthree, 2011) and mandatory
evacuations were in effect due to the fires moving quickly towards the outskirts
along with the danger of the smoke that blanketed the town. The fire was wind
driven spread and was aided by high temperatures and low humidity. The
Monument Fire burned 30,526 acres by the time of containment a month later on
July 12. Unfortunately, the disaster would not over when the fire was finally
extinguished. A burned landscape presents a number of safety hazards that either
did not exist prior to the fire or are increased by the effects of the fire. These types
of hazardous conditions may continue for several years after a fire. The fire had
destroyed the grasslands and trees that grew along the canyons of the
The Ideal Aristotelian Friendship
The proposition is that the virtuous agents are benefitting off each other, through an
egoistic manner. It is evident that the virtuous friendship entails the concepts of
egocentrism as Aristotle quotes, the friend is another himself (142, 9.4.SS5.30). The
ideal Aristotelian friendship is where friends resemble the each other, through similar
strains of thinking. Significantly, the concept of egocentrism means if the friends are
like us, to disagree with them would be contradicting ourselves. In effect, the
friendshipbased off similarityis enduring, because the agents whom think alike will
avoid conflict with each other since they will agree with each other on many grounds.
Significantly, the excellent Aristotelian friendship would seem to require that our
friends praise everything to please us and never cross us (62 section 1). This is
further evident when he asserts the friendship of virtueis immune to slander (126,
section 7 line 10). The concept of slander can be interpreted as a form of
disagreement/quarrel between individuals, and taking insult from this dissimilarity.
Problematically, this would leave no room for dispute on differing idea s, or to
further explore different perspectives. Furthermore, the qualification of the virtuous
friendship aims to use the similarities of the peer as a moderator, which would
benefit the agent in their pursuit towards achieving an intermediate state. The closer
the similarities are between individuals, the better they can moderate each other s
actions/intentions. If one of the agents were to act out of line, their friend would
respond accordingly and put them back on track. However, presuming the
individuals in the relationship are excellent people since they are virtuous, they
ought to unconditionally desire to aid their friend, for the good of the friend.
Arguably, if the virtues of the friend were to change sporadically or gradually, the
right response of the loving agent would be to adjust their behaviour to aid their
friend through whatever situation they are undergoing. Significantly, empathy
becomes a key requirement for enduring friendships, because it demonstrates we can
positively react to our friend s change (and vice versa). However, Aristotle uses

through actions. He gives new meaning to the phrase: Actions speak louder than

Compare And Contrast The Lady Ireleen And Cathleen Ni...
The plays Cathleen Ni Houlihan and The Countess Cathleen are particularly
interesting since both are analogies for what was happening in Ireland during the
1798 Rebellion. In order to portray the bleak reality of Ireland at that time, the
atmosphere of both is marked with a distinct sense of desperation: Cathleen Ni
Houlihan , encompasses the idea of honor and starkly nationalistic pride, support and
service. The title character, Cathleen, appears initially as an old woman who goes
throughout the homes of the various regions of Irelandseeking to recruit young men
to join her cause and fight for her (to fight for an independent and separate Irish
state). She appears at the home of a young man, Michael, who is on the eve of his

Both are similar in describing the despair that came over the people due to poverty
and control by an unwanted rule. Additionally, both Cathleen s are almost
otherworldly... The first for her saintly qualities and close relationship with God, the
second for her abrupt appearance out of nowhere, her almost magical seduction of
Michael, and her transformation from an old woman into a young one. However,
their plotВґs focus is slightly different. Whereas Cathleen Ni Houlihan emphasis the
deliberate service to the country that was expected, The Countess Cathleen goes into
greater details over the hardships of the
Urea Determination Lab Report
Urea determination is of great interest in different fields as pharmaceutical and food
industry, environmental protection, fertilizers, but the most important applications
are in biomedical and clinical analysis. In fact, urea is a waste product of protein
degradation and the main nitrogen component of urine, produced in the liver and
eliminated by the kidneys. Some pathologies such as renal insufficiency,
hyperpyrexia, hyperthyroidism, leukemia, burns, diarrheal diseases and diabetes
mellitus are reflected by out of range ureaconcentrations (2.5 7.5) mM in the blood
and 10 30 g in urine collected by a 24 h sampling [1,2]). Therefore, it is important to
detect urea in serum or urine samples [3]. Real samples are typically diluted before...

Essay on The Importance of Wind Turbines for Renewable
Energy
The American inventor Charles F. Brush invented the first automatically operated
wind turbine in 1887. [1] Since then, multiple developments have contributed to the
design of today s modern wind turbine. And when grouped together into a wind farm,
wind turbines are becoming an important source of renewable energy.
HAWT blades are designed like airplane wings in order to use lift to capture the wind
s energy. The airfoildesign that they use makes one surface of the blade rounded,
while the other is smooth and flat. [3] When air passes through the blades, a
difference in pressure is created between the top and bottom of the blade. The
introduction of the blade into airflow acts like an introduction of a force and causes

The main purpose of the gearbox is to increase the rotational speed of the blades to
the generator. In order for the electrical generator to perform efficiently and
effectively, the input speed must be very fast. The blades are not able to turn fast
enough due to the centrifugal strain of high speeds. [6] The gearbox uses multiple
gears and gear trains in order to provide speed and torque conversions that are
necessary. These conversions are dependent on the gear ratio of the gearbox.
Most of the mechanical energy that is produced by the rotating blades is transformed
into electrical energy via the generator. The generator, through the process of
electromagnetic induction, produces an electrical voltage that will cause a current to
flow out of the generator. As the rotor spins the shaft, the shaft spins the coil of wire
held within the generator. The coil is surrounded by an assembly of permanent
magnets that produce a voltage when the coil is spun inside of them. [7] This voltage
is what drives the electrical current through the power lines for distribution.
The yaw controller is responsible for controlling the angle between the rotor and
direction of wind (yaw angle). Varying wind direction becomes an issue for the
power generating abilities of turbines. In order for the turbine to produce the most
power, the turbine s horizontal axis must be parallel to the wind direction. The yaw
controller is able to turn the
Social Darwinism In The Mayor Of Casterbridge
Upon returning from his voyage, renowned scientist Charles Darwin published his
findings on his theory of survival of the fittest . He claimed that the most powerful
ascend higher on the scale of survival, whereas the disadvantaged and weak remain
at the bottom. A few decades later, this concept was adapted to apply to social,
economic and political issues a term which later was coined as Social Darwinism.
This phenomenon was the basis for the explanation of why certain individuals
accumulate success and triumph over others. The theories of Darwin s work can be
applied in literature as well, especially in The Mayor of Casterbridge. In this case, the
strength of an individual was dependent on their reputation and social rankings. This
placed females at a disadvantage, due to the patriarchal standards and oppression, as
well as those who were morally unjust and disliked throughout the community, such
as Henchard. Once engulfed in the classification as unfit , demise and suffering is
no longer a force that can be controlled and evaded by human actions. In his novel,
The Mayor of Casterbridge, Thomas Hardyapplies the theories of Social Darwinism
to prove that suffering is inevitable among the morally and socially weak and
disliked through the recurring symbolism of animals, the unpredictable weather, and
Lucetta s demise. The inclusion of various animals in Hardy s novel serve a deeper
purpose than as livestock in the agrarian society of Casterbridge; they are symbolic
Workplace Harassment In The Workplace
Workplace harassment is best defined as hostile demands or intimidation that can
cause employees to suddenly detach from others, decrease work quality, and result
in psychological and physical destruction (Walsh, 2013). According to the text,
abolishing harassment is one of the most pressing legal concerns challenging
employers today (Walsh, 2013). Furthermore, in order for a workplace harassment
to be deemed as so, both parties involved have to be employed by the same
employer (Gidro Gidro, 2016). Needless to say, harassment is another form of
inequality. In this case scenario, the plaintiff Varner, was a seventeen year old floral
employee at National Super Market (Walsh, 2013). One of her co workers was
Robert Edmiston, a fifty one year old, who worked in the produce department. In the
spring of 1991, Edmiston started making sexual advancements, graphic sexual
comments, and showing pornography to her (Walsh, 2013). At first, none of the
sexual harassmentwas physical, until July or August of 1991. Allegedly, Edmiston
approached her from behind, reached his arms beneath Varner s arm, and began to
squeeze her breast (Walsh, 2013). Fortunately, she was able to free herself from him
and ran. Varner did not report the incident to anyone, finished her shift, and went
home. When she got home, she called her fiancГ© Chris Pilch, who also worked at
National. Pilch immediately called Curtis Mason, the store manager, and informed
him of the incident involving
Essay Comparing Gilgamesh And The Flood
Throughout the readings of both The Flood from the Epic of Gilgamesh and
excerpts from Genesis 6:5 9:17: The Flood , one has noticed numerous similarities
that connect the two articles. Before one has read the articles, one notices that both
readings were written a long time ago in the B.C. era. Both the readings talk about
a God or multiple gods creating a flood because the humans expressed wickedness.
The purpose of the flood was to wipe out mankind. The two readings ask for a man
to build a massive ark/boat. Both the boats were sealed with pitch. Both stories talk
about the God/gods telling the man what dimensions the boat shall be built with. The
man in both readings brought all kinds of animals and some people with with him.
Another... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once on the mountain, the man send birds to find dry land and see if the flood has
come to an end. In both readings, one of the birds the man sends out does not return
to the ark/boat. The man in both readings sacrificed something for the God/gods.
The God/gods both smelled the sacrifice. Both readings express that the God/gods
promise not to destroy humankind again. One believes that it is possible that the
author of Genesis had some knowledge of the Epic of Gilgamesh because the
readings correlate together so well. The Epic of Gilgamesh originated before
Genesis and shares great detail between both stories. Both of the readings talk about
the same event on our planet. Both Genesis and the Epic of Gilgamesh documented
this event at the same time and are expressing/sharing it in a way they both
understand. One of these accounts may have been altered by a mix up in oral
tradition. It would be too much of a coincidence if Genesis took information from
Epic of Gilgamesh because Genesis has more detail compared to the other reading.
Genesis must have witnessed the event and wrote it down in the perspective the
author saw it in.The readings both parallel each other very

  • 2. Animal Captivity Dilemma The Dilemma of Animal Captivity Animal captivity is an extremely important, and often overlooked problem that we, as human beings, have placed on nature and the animals that live in the endangered environment. There are groups of people worldwide who are extremely against animal captivity because of the drastic and permanent effects it leaves on the animals. These ideas of hatred against animal captivity are expressed in small ways such as posting a picture on Instagram that represents animal cruelty in captivity. Another way these ideas can be expressed is through large representations such as movies. Films such as Jurassic World and Blackfish are prime examples of this. Both of these films are representing the severe repercussions that can come from keeping large, dangerous animals in captivity. Though Jurassic World is a fictional movie, it is able to send the message that having animals that are dangerous in captivity is something that is very dangerous. Blackfish offers a real and terrifying glimpse into what happens to the mindset of animals who are put into captivity and the threat that those animals pose to not only other animals in captivity but also the humans who are in charge of looking after these animals. This problem of taking animals away from their natural habitat and placing them in captivity is a prime example of how humanity is trying to assert itself as dominant of everything else. Mankind has thought of itself as a protector of the wild animals by
  • 3. A Small Bundle Of Specialized Cells A small bundle of specialized cells located in the right atrium of the heart called the Sinus node is where the impulse of the heart starts. The electrical activity spreads through the walls of the atria and causes them to contract. This forces blood into the ventricles which sets the rate and rhythm of the heartbeat. A pacemaker is needed to maintain an adequate heart rate, either because the heart s natural pacemaker sinus node is not fast enough or there is a block in the heart s conduction system. Growing knowledge of the human body led to the experimentation of a wide range of electrotherapies by pioneering scientists and physicians. These techniques employed both direct current and static electricity. It was already known that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Electrostimulation is needed when the heart cannot generate electrical signals by itself. A pacemaker electrically stimulates the heart and consists of a battery, pulse generator, wires and electrodes. Functionally, the pacemaker must match the action (electrical) potential produced by a working sinus node (Testing a Pacemaker 2016). The battery generates power for the pacing system. It produces electricity as a result of a chemical reaction. In its simplest form a battery consists of an anode, electrolyte, separator and cathode. Pacemaker batteries are composed of Lithium Iodine. Lithium acts as an anode and provides electrons and the Iodine acts as a cathode, receiving electrons. The anode and cathode are separated by electrolytes which serves as a conductor of ionic movement but as a barrier to electron transfers (Butler, n.d). The battery voltage depends on the chemical composition of the Lithium Iodine. At the Beginning of Life (BOL) of the battery produces around 2.8 volts. At the Elective Replacement Indicator point in which 90% of battery life has been used the battery generates at around 2.4 volts. This rate decreases exponentially until the End of Life (EOL) is reached and the battery generates around 1.8 volts. The contributing factors to the longevity of the pacemaker include chemical composition of the battery, the size of the battery, the amount of internal discharge, voltage
  • 4. Essay on Transportation and How it Affects Logistics Transportation is one of the largest industries in the world. It is the most costly and time consuming of the supply chain. Transportation refers to the movement of products and raw materials from one destination to another. This process begins from the supply chain to the shipping of the finished product to the consumer. For we know that products are rarely produced in the same location. We as people depend on transportation because it moves goods and people from one place to another. Transportation is a key element in the logistic chain. It joins together those components that are considered to be separated. In order for transportation and logistics to work together successfully, there must be good management between them. It plays a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To achieve the lowest total cost means that financial and human assets committed to logistics must be held to an absolute minimum (Pieplow, Daniel, Calhoun [Pg. 29]). SCM can be divided into three main groups: purchase, manufacture, and transport (Thomas et al., 1996). The focus is on transportation. There are different modes of transportation. These modes of transportation fall under three basic types and they are: land (road, rail and pipelines), water (shipping) and air. Transportation plays a connective role among the several steps that result in the conversion of resources into useful goods for the ultimate consumer. It is the planning of all these functions and sub functions into a system of goods movement in order to minimize cost and maximize service to the customers that constitutes the concept of business logistics. The system, once it s put in place, must be effectively managed (Fair Williams, 1981). What are the advantages and disadvantages of these modes of transportation in logistics? Initially, there is the mode of land transportation. Roads, rails and pipelines fall under this category. These land logistics are very important because they extend the delivery services for air and water transport from airports and seaports. The main transport mode of land logistics are railway, road freight and pipeline transport. The advantage of railway transport is that it has carrying capacity and lower influences by weather conditions
  • 5. The World Theory, And This Term Basically Means In the textbook, it mentions of a term called Carpentered World Theory and this term basically means that it is a perception about how individual s at least most American individuals see things that are shaped in a form of a rectangle unconsciously (Juang Matsumoto, Chapter 5, pg. 122). As for the lecture notes, it mentions how our culture is used to seeing objects in a rectangleshape (Lecture notes). Thus is true, we see rectangle shapes all the time while driving from place to place. For example would be the rectangle shape highway signs that we notice while driving past them. Another example would be the signs that say do not turn right on red; these signs are in the form of a rectangle. Lastly, is our cell phones; our modern... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In regards to the Mueller Lyer illusion, the textbook mentions how Rivers stated that most English saw the two lines more differently than any other cultural groups such as India or New Guinea (Juang Matsumoto, Chapter 5, pg. 122). I decided to try an experiment with the Mueller Lyer Illusion. I decided to ask 3 close friends of mine that are typical Americans. All but one was fooled by this illusion. Then, I decided to ask 3 friends of mine that are from a different culture, one of them lives in Australia, one is Korean and one was Native American. My friend who lives in Australia was fooled by this illusion, whereas the Korean and Native American friend of mine stated it was the same length but the arrows were oppositely flipped. I thought this was extremely interesting how each culture was either fooled or not fooled by this illusion. This proves to show that cultures could in fact view optical illusions differently because of either how they were raised or how they see the world in a different light than others in views on how they interpret objects. In regards to the recognition of objects within a visual scene there are uniquely clear differences between Americans and Japanese individuals. According to the textbook, it mentions how Masuda and Nisbett (2001) did a research study that asked Japanese and Americans to view an animated scene and then to recall how many objects were within that scene and how they found that there was

I was anywhere from five to eight, and he was around eleven or thirteen. He is looking out of frame and has one of those old CD players from the nineties in his lap, his hands hovering over its silver hardware, frozen in a hesitant stance. He looks entertained, or maybe just distracted. He has what my familycalls his Harry Potter glasses perched somewhat low on his nose, and true to the late nineties and early 2000scommon style, his black hair is spiked up. Beside him is me, in a light shirt, wearing the thin headphones that accompanied the CD player in his lap. I look either deep in thought and like I am taking in the music very thoroughly or very uncomfortable. I will let you in on a hint: I was very uncomfortable. My brother, Jackson, is six or seven years older than I am. He is rather quiet and reserved like myself, although it is more obvious on him than it is on me. When we were younger I was four, my sister was six, and Jackson was eight our father decided that he liked another woman better than our mother, and left us. Jackson does not like dealing with situations like that, that have deep emotional repercussions, and more or less shut himself off to the world. That included me. I am very sensitive on as to whether or not people want to interact with me, and as a baseline, I pretty much avoid interacting with people unless it is pretty clear that they want me to. I was not as good at it as I am now when I was young, so I just generally did not interact with anyone at all as a baseline. My sister and I have always been somewhat close even if she did not like me at all when I was younger but Jackson and I never talked. I was intimidated. He was so much older than me! He was responsible! He made good grades! He liked complicated things like cars and he was so well spoken! I remember when this picture was taken. It was either late Summer or anytime in the Spring. The large chair we are sitting in had a window to our right, and a door to a backyard to our left and not fifteen feet away from us. It claims to rid the hair of men and women alike of all dandruff, and nourish the scalp at the same time. Once it was launched, there was immediately alot of buzz over the product. Maybe it was because the product contained Zinc Vitanol, an ingredient not used in any other anti dandruff shampoo. Or maybe it was just because it was marketed well, having high quality television commercials and the international pop star, Rain, as its endorser. This part would be similar to the first commercial with Rain, but more appealing to the Filipino market, basically because the endorsers in these commercials are Filipino celebrities. Another important factor seen in every Clear advertisement is the use of the color black. Their campaign has always emphasized that the color black meant freedom from dandruff. If you think about it, the color black for Clear can symbolize shiny black hair, or confidence; because wearing black is often avoided by those who suffer from dandruff. And this was creative; it makes the advertisements unique and eye catching because they re the only advertisements wherein the people, the background, and pretty much everything is colored black. The many components within and interrelated with algebra and algebraic thinking sets children up, not only for formal algebra in high school, but for life (Reys, et al., 2012). This paper will be addressing some of the main ideas and understandings associated with Algebra. Key skills, strategies and ways of thinking will also be explored along with strategies for teaching the content effectively. Literature review (up to 800 words) Algebra is a critical aspect of mathematics which provides the means to calculate unknown values. According to Bednarz, Kieran and Lee (as cited in Chick Harris, 2007), there are three basic concepts of simple algebra: the generalisation of patterns, the understanding of numerical laws and functional situations. The understanding of these concepts by children will have an enormous bearing on their future mathematical capacity. However, conveying these algebraic concepts to children can be difficult due to the abstract symbolic nature of the math that will initially be foreign to the children. Furthermore, each child s ability to recall learned numerical laws is vital to their proficiency in problem solving and mathematical confidence. It is obvious that teaching algebra is not a simple task. Therefore, the importance of quality early exposure to fundamental algebraic concepts is of significant importance to allow all
  • 21. The Elements Of Critical Thinking As A Critical Thinker Critical thinking is that mode of thinking about any subject, content, or problem in which the thinker improves the quality of his or her thinking by skillfully taking charge of the structures inherent in thinking and imposing intellectual standards upon them. (Paul and Elder, 2014). Like going to the gym, deciding to go back to school to improve your way of life, or saving for a long awaited vacation, critical thinking similarly requires a self controlled, well organized, and strategic order of procedures in an effort to reach your intended goal successfully. Additionally, along this path of success, a thinker may find themselves in a self correcting stage, as one may attempt to allow their biases, partiality, or ill informed thoughts to take control. However, a well refined critical thinker can ascertain this success by actively and expertly enhancing their quality of thought. This attribute is achieved by implementing specific concepts; such as theory development, exploration, construction, and/or the investigation of material assembled. According to Paul and Elder, Excellence in thought must be systematically cultivated . Therefore, a critical thinker, must purposely put in the work to accomplish success. Richard Paul and Linda Elder created a critical thinking framework that consists of three major components: 1. The elements of thought; which is your basis for reasoning, 2. the intellectual standards; which are applied to the elements of reasoning, and 3. intellectual traits; which are produced from the application of discipline. The Elements of Thought According to Paul and Elder (1997), there are two essential dimensions of thinking that students need to master in order to learn how to upgrade their thinking. They need to be able to identify the parts of their thinking, and they need to be able to assess their use of these parts of thinking. The elements of thought consist of 8 key mechanisms; which helps the thinker to implement reasoning on different aspects on each thought level. 1.Purpose: All reasoning has a purpose; therefore, it is the thinker s responsibility to understand the purpose, goals and objectives of any given concept to satisfy a specific wish and justify some need. 2.

However, this crisis involved the most famous nuclear scientist of the Soviet Union Anatolii Aleksandrov and close coworker of Igor Kurchatov, who developed the atomic bomb for the Soviet Union (Schmid, 2011). Anatolii Aleksandrov was blamed for being accountable for holding too many authoritative positions at the same time when Chernobyl explosion occurred. Additionally, he was blamed for avoiding complaints concerning operational complications with RBMKs (light water cooled, graphite moderated reactors) as he was the head of Interdepartmental Technical Council MVTS, which was the most authoritative decision making organization for Soviet nuclear energy guiding principles (Schmid, 2011). Before 1986, Soviet had a civilian agency Minenergo (the Ministry for energy and Electrification), which regulated the majority of the country s NPPs. However, this agency was not liable to the KGB, but to the Planning Commission (Gosplan), the Soviet economy s principal coordinating agency (Schmid, 2011). The main
  • 27. Electrodes Are Another Way Of Getting Signals From The Brain Intraparenchymal Electrodes are another way of getting signals from the brain. This method holds much more promising results than EEG because the receiver is placed directly in the brain of subject, getting many more, clearer signals. This allows more in depth control of 3 dimensional objects such as robotic arms. With enough concentration and practice, a person can even use the arm for basic motor functions such as eating and lifting objects. Intraparenchymal Electrodes have been a huge breakthrough in the study of neuroprosthetics, and further test show that humans actually have the capability to pick up sensitive objects such as cups of water and eggs, though the arms still don t have the ability to create the sense of touch, making it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So to reiterate, while intraparenchymal electrodes are much more fruitful in results than EEG due to less interference between the scanner and the brain, its downfalls are rather prominent as well because of its invasiveness, and the body s natural reaction to its presence. The final method of neural recording is electrocorticography or ECoG. This method, compared to the previous two methods could be considered the best option to record neural activity. The reason being that it s a mixture of both of the other methods in a way. The way this method works is that recorders are placed directly on surface of the brain, in order to get clear signals without interference from the skull and scalp. The difference between ECoG and intraparenchymal electrodes however, is the fact that ECoG does not penetrate the brain, but rather it sits on top of the brain. This avoids the problem of the brain growing around it, and in turn does not affect the signals strength in anyway, allowing a more permanent solution for neuroprosthetics limbs to be practically used. This method trumps the last two methods in speed and practicality. Where EEG is limited to moving cursors on computers at a relatively slow pace, requiring major concentration and practice, when tested ECoG was able to get the same results at a fraction of the time and effort. in addition, while intraparenchymal electrodes are capable of basic motor

The entirety of the poem is describing, from the rood s point of view, the crucifixionof JesusChrist. The poem has many aspects of Anglo Saxon literature, and differs in several ways from the actual bible telling of the crucifixion; in The Dream of The Rood, Jesus is depicted as more of an anglo saxon like warrior, the cross endures more pain than Jesus himself, and Before the belief of the afterlife in Heaven, derived heavily from Christianity, men believed that they would be remembered for generations to come solely by the heroic and chivalrous acts they had done in their lifetime. • 31. Effects Of Poverty In Nigeria Poverty is a multidimensional phenomenon. Poverty is a denial of choices and opportunities, a violation of human dignity. It means lack of basic capacity to participate effectively in society. It means not having enough to feed and clothe a family, not having a school or clinic to go to; not having the land on which to grow one s food or a job to earn one s living, not having access to credit. It means insecurity, powerlessness and exclusion of individuals, households and communities. It means susceptibility to violence, and it often implies living on marginal or fragile environments, without access to clean water or sanitation. It has risen in Nigeriawith almost 100 million people living on less than $1 a day, despite economic growth, statistics have shown. The ethical theory associated with this is the egoism theory which I picked as in place of the Nigerian leaders who only look out for their families. Comparing this economy and government to that of Dubai is overwhelming as everyone knows Dubai for its vast expense of riches and brilliant government. In Nigeria, widespread and severe poverty is a reality. It is a reality that depicts a lack of food, clothes, education and other basic amenities. Severely poor people lack the most basic necessities of life to a degree that it can be wondered how they manage to survive. There are several effects and deficiencies associated with poverty in Nigeria. One of the main effects of poverty is poor health, as is reflected

Tausanovitch and Warshaw (2013) have developed a means of understanding political preference in comparison with public opinion and public policy to determine whether a government is best serving the desires of its people. This type of tool would be very useful for the state of Texas to use to determine whether the government is serving the desires of its constituents. But, just because public opinion and public policy line up doesn t mean that the interests of citizens are best served because some groups may still be left out and those groups may have more needs than others. Texas current operational stance of pay as you go makes for a very tight budget where the government cannot always afford to spend money on things the citizens of Texas may need. For instance, Texas operates its roads with the same pay as you go mentality by opting for toll roads (Brown et al., 2014). Toll roads receive some government funding through state issued bonds and the collection of tolls after completion. This system is hardly fair for the citizens who do not use the toll roads but still must subsidize them through taxpayer dollars when the toll revenue does not meet the projected earnings. There are also many more citizens in Texas who live below the poverty line, 18.4% for Texas in comparison to 15.1% for the entire United States (Brown et al., 2014). With a larger proportion of citizens in poverty the burden to the state becomes greater, especially when funding remains low (Insert citation). Computing Machinery And Intelligence By Alan Turing In his paper Computing Machinery and Intelligence, Alan Turing sets out to answer the question of whether machines can think in the same humans can by conceptualizing the question in concrete terms. In simple terms, Turing redefines the question by posing whether a machine can replicate the cognition of a human being. Yet, some may object to the notion that Turing s new question effectively captures the nature of machines capacity for thought or consciousness, such as John Searle. In his Chinese room thought experiment, Searle outlines a scenario that implies machines apparent replication of human cognition does not yield conscious understanding. While Searle s Chinese thought experiment demonstrates how a Turing test is not sufficient to establish that a machine can possess consciousness or thought, this argument does not prove that machines are absolutely incapable of consciousness or thought. Rather, given the ongoing uncertainty of the debate regarding the intelligence of machines, there can be no means to confirm or disconfirm the conscious experience of machines as well as the consciousness of humans by extension of that principle. In attempting to answer the question of whether machines are able to think, Turing redesigns the question around the notion of machines effectiveness at mimicking human cognition. Turing proposes to gauge such effectiveness by a variation of an imitation game, where a man and a woman are concealed from an interrogator who makes

Abstract Throughout the years scientists and researchers have done many studies that pertain to how mutagens cause mutations in genes. They have also studied these mutations to see if they transfer to the next generation or whether the DNA repairs the mutation before it gets passed on. In this lab we will be looking at the mutagen ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) and how it will affect our organism Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans). EMS is known to be mutagenic and carcinogenic because it can produce significant levels of alkylation at oxygens of guanine and in the DNA phosphate groups. It can also produce GC to AT transition mutations and vice versa. There has also been evidence that EMS is able to break chromosomes (Sega). We hypothesize that when we expose the C. elegans to the EMS, a mutation will occur on the DNA that will cause a phenotype to occur in the organism that is different from the wild type. Our goal is to be able to locate the mutation on a gene, and match it to other kingdoms to see if they are homologous to other genes. This is beneficial to us as humans

  • 47. The Ideal Aristotelian Friendship The proposition is that the virtuous agents are benefitting off each other, through an egoistic manner. It is evident that the virtuous friendship entails the concepts of egocentrism as Aristotle quotes, the friend is another himself (142, 9.4.SS5.30). The ideal Aristotelian friendship is where friends resemble the each other, through similar strains of thinking. Significantly, the concept of egocentrism means if the friends are like us, to disagree with them would be contradicting ourselves. In effect, the friendshipbased off similarityis enduring, because the agents whom think alike will avoid conflict with each other since they will agree with each other on many grounds. Significantly, the excellent Aristotelian friendship would seem to require that our friends praise everything to please us and never cross us (62 section 1). This is further evident when he asserts the friendship of virtueis immune to slander (126, section 7 line 10). The concept of slander can be interpreted as a form of disagreement/quarrel between individuals, and taking insult from this dissimilarity. Problematically, this would leave no room for dispute on differing idea s, or to further explore different perspectives. Furthermore, the qualification of the virtuous friendship aims to use the similarities of the peer as a moderator, which would benefit the agent in their pursuit towards achieving an intermediate state. The closer the similarities are between individuals, the better they can moderate each other s actions/intentions. If one of the agents were to act out of line, their friend would respond accordingly and put them back on track. However, presuming the individuals in the relationship are excellent people since they are virtuous, they ought to unconditionally desire to aid their friend, for the good of the friend. Arguably, if the virtues of the friend were to change sporadically or gradually, the right response of the loving agent would be to adjust their behaviour to aid their friend through whatever situation they are undergoing. Significantly, empathy becomes a key requirement for enduring friendships, because it demonstrates we can positively react to our friend s change (and vice versa). However, Aristotle uses

  • 49. Compare And Contrast The Lady Ireleen And Cathleen Ni... The plays Cathleen Ni Houlihan and The Countess Cathleen are particularly interesting since both are analogies for what was happening in Ireland during the 1798 Rebellion. In order to portray the bleak reality of Ireland at that time, the atmosphere of both is marked with a distinct sense of desperation: Cathleen Ni Houlihan , encompasses the idea of honor and starkly nationalistic pride, support and service. The title character, Cathleen, appears initially as an old woman who goes throughout the homes of the various regions of Irelandseeking to recruit young men to join her cause and fight for her (to fight for an independent and separate Irish state). She appears at the home of a young man, Michael, who is on the eve of his wedding... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both are similar in describing the despair that came over the people due to poverty and control by an unwanted rule. Additionally, both Cathleen s are almost otherworldly... The first for her saintly qualities and close relationship with God, the second for her abrupt appearance out of nowhere, her almost magical seduction of Michael, and her transformation from an old woman into a young one. However, their plotВґs focus is slightly different. Whereas Cathleen Ni Houlihan emphasis the deliberate service to the country that was expected, The Countess Cathleen goes into greater details over the hardships of the

Urea Determination Lab Report Urea determination is of great interest in different fields as pharmaceutical and food industry, environmental protection, fertilizers, but the most important applications are in biomedical and clinical analysis. In fact, urea is a waste product of protein degradation and the main nitrogen component of urine, produced in the liver and eliminated by the kidneys. Some pathologies such as renal insufficiency, hyperpyrexia, hyperthyroidism, leukemia, burns, diarrheal diseases and diabetes mellitus are reflected by out of range ureaconcentrations (2.5 7.5) mM in the blood and 10 30 g in urine collected by a 24 h sampling [1,2]). Therefore, it is important to detect urea in serum or urine samples [3]. Real samples are typically diluted before... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many methods have been developed for the enzyme immobilization but usually one of four methods is used: physical adsorption, entrapment, co polymerization and covalent at attachment [27 28]. In the present work, we report the performance of a graphite paste electrode (GPE) modified by polyaniline and polypyrrole, for detecting of urea in laboratory samples using amperometric technique with addition of polyaniline (PANI) and polypyrrole (Ppy) a good conducting polymer supporting to graphite paste. The superior performance polymers modified graphite paste electrode is demonstrated by the speciation and determination of urea forms in pharmaceutical formulations, urine sample, sea water samples. The proposed amperometric method has been validated by using inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP AES) [29 30]. 2. Experimental 2.1. • 51. Essay on The Importance of Wind Turbines for Renewable Energy The American inventor Charles F. Brush invented the first automatically operated wind turbine in 1887. [1] Since then, multiple developments have contributed to the design of today s modern wind turbine. And when grouped together into a wind farm, wind turbines are becoming an important source of renewable energy. HAWT blades are designed like airplane wings in order to use lift to capture the wind s energy. The airfoildesign that they use makes one surface of the blade rounded, while the other is smooth and flat. [3] When air passes through the blades, a difference in pressure is created between the top and bottom of the blade. The introduction of the blade into airflow acts like an introduction of a force and causes the streamlines of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main purpose of the gearbox is to increase the rotational speed of the blades to the generator. In order for the electrical generator to perform efficiently and effectively, the input speed must be very fast. The blades are not able to turn fast enough due to the centrifugal strain of high speeds. [6] The gearbox uses multiple gears and gear trains in order to provide speed and torque conversions that are necessary. These conversions are dependent on the gear ratio of the gearbox. Most of the mechanical energy that is produced by the rotating blades is transformed into electrical energy via the generator. The generator, through the process of electromagnetic induction, produces an electrical voltage that will cause a current to flow out of the generator. As the rotor spins the shaft, the shaft spins the coil of wire held within the generator. The coil is surrounded by an assembly of permanent magnets that produce a voltage when the coil is spun inside of them. [7] This voltage is what drives the electrical current through the power lines for distribution. The yaw controller is responsible for controlling the angle between the rotor and direction of wind (yaw angle). Varying wind direction becomes an issue for the power generating abilities of turbines. In order for the turbine to produce the most power, the turbine s horizontal axis must be parallel to the wind direction. The yaw controller is able to turn the
  • 52. Social Darwinism In The Mayor Of Casterbridge Upon returning from his voyage, renowned scientist Charles Darwin published his findings on his theory of survival of the fittest . He claimed that the most powerful ascend higher on the scale of survival, whereas the disadvantaged and weak remain at the bottom. A few decades later, this concept was adapted to apply to social, economic and political issues a term which later was coined as Social Darwinism. This phenomenon was the basis for the explanation of why certain individuals accumulate success and triumph over others. The theories of Darwin s work can be applied in literature as well, especially in The Mayor of Casterbridge. In this case, the strength of an individual was dependent on their reputation and social rankings. This placed females at a disadvantage, due to the patriarchal standards and oppression, as well as those who were morally unjust and disliked throughout the community, such as Henchard. Once engulfed in the classification as unfit , demise and suffering is no longer a force that can be controlled and evaded by human actions. In his novel, The Mayor of Casterbridge, Thomas Hardyapplies the theories of Social Darwinism to prove that suffering is inevitable among the morally and socially weak and disliked through the recurring symbolism of animals, the unpredictable weather, and Lucetta s demise. The inclusion of various animals in Hardy s novel serve a deeper purpose than as livestock in the agrarian society of Casterbridge; they are symbolic
  • 53. Workplace Harassment In The Workplace Workplace harassment is best defined as hostile demands or intimidation that can cause employees to suddenly detach from others, decrease work quality, and result in psychological and physical destruction (Walsh, 2013). According to the text, abolishing harassment is one of the most pressing legal concerns challenging employers today (Walsh, 2013). Furthermore, in order for a workplace harassment to be deemed as so, both parties involved have to be employed by the same employer (Gidro Gidro, 2016). Needless to say, harassment is another form of inequality. In this case scenario, the plaintiff Varner, was a seventeen year old floral employee at National Super Market (Walsh, 2013). One of her co workers was Robert Edmiston, a fifty one year old, who worked in the produce department. In the spring of 1991, Edmiston started making sexual advancements, graphic sexual comments, and showing pornography to her (Walsh, 2013). At first, none of the sexual harassmentwas physical, until July or August of 1991. Allegedly, Edmiston approached her from behind, reached his arms beneath Varner s arm, and began to squeeze her breast (Walsh, 2013). Fortunately, she was able to free herself from him and ran. Varner did not report the incident to anyone, finished her shift, and went home. When she got home, she called her fiancГ© Chris Pilch, who also worked at National. Pilch immediately called Curtis Mason, the store manager, and informed him of the incident involving
  • 54. Essay Comparing Gilgamesh And The Flood Throughout the readings of both The Flood from the Epic of Gilgamesh and excerpts from Genesis 6:5 9:17: The Flood , one has noticed numerous similarities that connect the two articles. Before one has read the articles, one notices that both readings were written a long time ago in the B.C. era. Both the readings talk about a God or multiple gods creating a flood because the humans expressed wickedness. The purpose of the flood was to wipe out mankind. The two readings ask for a man to build a massive ark/boat. Both the boats were sealed with pitch. Both stories talk about the God/gods telling the man what dimensions the boat shall be built with. The man in both readings brought all kinds of animals and some people with with him. Another... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once on the mountain, the man send birds to find dry land and see if the flood has come to an end. In both readings, one of the birds the man sends out does not return to the ark/boat. The man in both readings sacrificed something for the God/gods. The God/gods both smelled the sacrifice. Both readings express that the God/gods promise not to destroy humankind again. One believes that it is possible that the author of Genesis had some knowledge of the Epic of Gilgamesh because the readings correlate together so well. The Epic of Gilgamesh originated before Genesis and shares great detail between both stories. Both of the readings talk about the same event on our planet. Both Genesis and the Epic of Gilgamesh documented this event at the same time and are expressing/sharing it in a way they both understand. One of these accounts may have been altered by a mix up in oral tradition. It would be too much of a coincidence if Genesis took information from Epic of Gilgamesh because Genesis has more detail compared to the other reading. Genesis must have witnessed the event and wrote it down in the perspective the author saw it in.The readings both parallel each other very
