Essay on Kitty Genovese
February 10th, 2011
Take Home Midterm
Intro to Legal Studies
Chapter 1 Question One
The Kitty Genovese story is a tragic one and is a controversial topic when ethics come into play.
Though she screamed for help repeatedly while being stabbed the observers from the surrounding
apartments did very little to assist the young woman. One observer in specific did shout Leave the girl
alone and that deterred the assailant for a brief moment but whether or not he acted ethically is
something of a different matter. According to Duty Base Ethics which by definition states the doctrine
that actions are morally correct if they comply with existing obligations owed another and ourselves,
one could deduct that this observer did not act ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So when asked to take the pro or con of this argument that prospective appointees to the U.S Supreme
Court should publicly divulge their personal philosophies on the largest issues of modern society such
as abortion rights, prayer in public school, etc. I say Pro. Not only should they speak of their beliefs
about these controversial topics, they should do it openly and assertively. It is important for the people
to know the people who are responsible for our government and what they stand for whether we agree
or disagree. Sometimes and understandably public figures or potential public figures are hesitant to
speak on such delicate matters because of the judgment and criticisms that they will have to endure
once that information is out in the open but they must know that this is what comes with being a
public government figure especially the prospective appointees for the U.S Supreme Court. It is their
duty to serve the people and maintaining the integrity of the Constitution, which is what our country
was built on. That is a great responsibility and a very public one so the prospective appointees should
deem it necessary to let the people know who may be possibly carrying the weight of this
responsibility and where they stand on these controversial issues that effect the people of this country.

Freud s Theory Of The Oedipus Complex By Sigmund Freud
INTRODUCTION
Oedipus Complex
The Oedipus complex otherwise called mother fixation is a mental inclination of a man. This term is
used by Sigmund Freud as a part of his hypothesis of Psychosexual Stages of Development to depict a
kid s emotions of yearning for his mother and jealousy and outrage towards his father. Basically, a kid
feels like he is in rivalry with his father for possession of his mother. He sees his father as a rival for
her considerations and affections.
Greek Mythology
Oedipus King is about the story of Oedipus who murders his father and weds his mother, which is the
prototype of the Oedipus complex in Psychology. The protagonist or the hero of the tragedy is the
child of King Laius and Queen Jocasta of Thebes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lawrence portrays Mrs Morel s turning to her children particularly to Paul as an exceptionally
unpredictable and uncommon procedure. Lawrence alongside portraying the unpredictable and
abnormal connection also finds numerous unusual factors behind this bizarre connection. Among all
the factors, the most well known one is Mrs. Morel s moving her fascination or desire from spouse to
child which was the result of the bizarre relation or mismatch between her spouse in regards to
character, family status, training, keenness and so on. While she is an exceedingly religious lady, her
spouse is hard lush, her refined way additionally negates with his profanity. The marriage life of Mrs.
Morel is actually loaded with clashes and disappointments. Their marriage life has been one carnal
bloody fight. (Lawrence, D.H. 1985) Along with the mental tormenting Mr. Morel also frequently
beats her seriously and puts her out of home. The mother is unsatisfied and angry with the coal miner,
because he not only fails to live up to her bourgeois idea, but also hurts her in body and mind

Anti Vietnam War Song Woodstock Essay
The song Anti Vietnam War Song Woodstock tells how America needs more soldiers to fight a war
that s nowhere near American soil for a reason that is not well known to the american soldier. Country
Joe is basically saying that the soldiers do not know what they are fighting for and frankly don t give a
damn, all they know is that they have been drafted for a war they do not approve of. Many people of
this time made protest songs against the war and some of the songs leave more to the imagination than
other songs such as the Anti Vietnam War song.
The largest Anti Vietnam conference was held on November 15, 1969, and was hosted by the Vietnam
Moratorium. This convention is believed to be the biggest anti war conference ever in american
history. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This article relates to the song, The House of the Rising Sun , because Eisenhower s position on the
war was that he recommended going to war because no one stopped the rise of Hitler and Mussolini
causing a tragic future. The containment of communism is needed now rather than letting it spread
further, making it harder to get rid of in the future.
The song Handsome Johnny , written by Richie Havens, shows the evolution of war in his song. Each
war the weapon that Handsome Johnny used got more sophisticated and more efficient at killing. This
is a powerful song because people will fight for what they believe in and will even fight for what they
do not know. Handsome Johnny are the soldiers of America, fighting from the civil war, all the way up

During the 1960 s was when the Anti War movements were most common. There were over hundred

stating their opinions about the Vietnam war, and most of the artist would be against war and promote

Qualitative Research In Broadcast Media
Research methods in media studies have proven to be essential assets in the process of analysis and
evaluation. There are many different approaches to researching broadcast media and each is as
effective as the next. There are some methods more suited to certain topics than others and it is
expected to know the most effective method for each topic to enhance the validity and reliability of
the research. In this essay I will be answering the question, How do we research broadcast media? I
will be evaluating and discussing some of these research methods and how essential a correct method
can prove to be in academic research in broadcast media.
The qualitative and quantitative approaches are two main methods in research. Qualitative research is
mainly based on description rather than on measurement, whereas quantitative research is mostly
based on measurement rather than description. Qualitative research is a method that usually gives
emphasis to words rather than quantification in the collection and analysis of data. As a research
strategy it is broadly inductivist, constructionist and interpretivist, but qualitative researchers do not
always subscribe to all three of these features. (Bryman, A 2012) p380
Quantitative research involves the collection of numerical data. It displays a view of the relationship
between theory and research as deductive and having an objectivist concept of social reality. The basic
concepts that characterise quantitative research

Global Almond Market Vs. California
Part #1 GLOBAL ALMOND MARKET vs. CALIFORNIA S WATER DROUGHT California
Almonds are crunchy, delicious, and healthy and currently are becoming one of the world s favorite
snacks. Almonds are currently consumed about 1000% more than they did a decade ago by people
from around the world and became the most exported crop in the nation s top agriculture state (While
California FightsDrought, Almonds Using More Water Than Residents, 3). In addition, almonds are
tremendously profitable, generating approximately $11 billion to the state s economy in 2014 alone

According to a youtube video from Tandrea, Tree T Pee is proven to save water from 10,000 gallons
annually per tree to only using 800 gallons annually per tree. Also, it saves 300% 600% fuel costs,
fertilizers, and herbicides and help grows young trees faster. The secret of this containment system is
forcing the water to focus around a 24 inch diameter and keep the soil moist rather than sprinkling
water in a 10 foot diameter, wasting most of the water (Tandrea, December 2014). Hence, from my
calculation, instead of consuming 1.07 trillion gallons of water annually in California for almond,
farmers could only use 85.6 billion gallons of water annually in California and also have the benefit of
saving fuel costs, fertilizers, and herbicides. Moreover, engagement of stakeholders is needed to make
this solution go smoothly and achieve success of preventing the drought issue in California to
continue. The master plan is to have all farmers in California to use Tree T Pee to all of their
plantations to reduce water usage and alleviate the issue of drought. In order for this plan to be a
reality, several stakeholders need to work together and engage with each other, which include the
government, the farmers, and the environmentalist. I would start by interacting with several farmers in
California directly by going to their farm and conduct an interview regarding the best way to limit the

Soccer Team Reflection Paper
In the beginning of class, we watched a film that reminded me of high school varsity soccer because
some of my coaches were both theory Y and theory X. My coaches would act in a very direct and
negative form which made us not want to continue being in the team but in the end, the coaches taught
us many leadership skills and also discipline which was key in a sports team. I personally felt like I
was both theories because I was the team captain so the ways I was communicate with my players
made me feel like I am a very mean person but I wanted my team mates to know the expectations in
order to be in a very competitive soccer team. I felt like I had to be both theories in order to get my
message across in the best form as possible. I had to be harsh in order to show that my coaches and I
were not just playing around, we were dedicating our time into make the best soccer team in the USD
500 district. Towards the end of the soccer season I was seeing positive results from each and every
one of the players. It made me very happy that I got my message across even though I wasn t naturally
a theory X but I had to put myself in the players position. I felt like if I was only a theory Y, half of the
team wouldn t take me serious. The coaches in the film were a great example of how both theories
could have a good result when it comes to forming a team. Having diversity among the team makes a
leader think about every angle of how to approach the whole team because having diversity means
that individuals have different backgrounds. It can be difficult to address the whole team on what s
expected and the standards that they should be aiming for in order to continue being in the soccer
team. As a leader of the soccer team, it was very challenging at some situations because all my
teammates were depending on me in order to have positive results.
The team builder activity that we did in class was very interesting to do because every person in the
group had restrictions and limitations on what they could contribute in the group which made me a bit
challenging especially because time was against our favor. This activity made me realize that every
person can make a difference based on what capabilities they have and this

Time Is An Illusion Essay
Time. Is it an illusion? Or is it real? These two questions have been debated many times by
philosophers all around the world but they have yet to give a certain answer. Everyday, we use the
concept of time to measure how long an event is, to tell someone when to do what and to place your
events of the day in order. We are constantly using the perception of time in our sentences, but is time
actually real? I personally think that time is an illusion. I believe this because time is simply
something that gives order to our events, we do not progress in time and that time is simply an illusion
created by us.
Time is something that reminds us when there is an event that we must attend to. If you look at a

Saint Augustine stated that there are three times; a present time about things past, a present time about
things present, a present time about things future. The future exists only as expectations, the past
exists only as memory, but expectation and memory exist in the present. This means that you cannot
relive the past because you are always in the present time. Even if you are remembering a memory
from the past or waiting for something in the future, you are still in the present. Marina Abramovic
quotes: Time is an illusion. Time only exists when we think about the past and the future. Time doesn t
exist in the present here and now. This means that we only think that there is time since there is a past
and future. As time flows, the present is always updating itself every millisecond. As you read this
sentence, you might think that you are in the present but the moment is no longer happening. After
you read the sentence, that time you read it becomes the past. If you backtrack to the memory of you
reading the sentence, you are still in the present even though you are thinking of the past. If you look
at the clock, in one minute the you that you are now will be in the past. The future you will become
the present you and then almost instantly become the past you. Therefore we are always in the present
and it is the mind that can be in the present or the

Phuong Symbolism
In the book The Quiet American Phoung, the beautiful Vietnamese girl caught in a love triangle with
an American spy and a war correspondent, is seen as a commodity, something to be bartered, without
actually taking her feelings into consideration. She is treated as a delicate victim who needs saving by
the men in the book but although it seems like Greene is portraying Phuong as nothing more than an
object, he means for her to represent much more than that. Greene s portrayal of Phuong as an object
represents the treatment of the Vietnamese people in the hands of the Americans. She is meant to be
symbolic of her country, both men, American and British want to possess her, much like the war
raging in Vietnam.
Phuong is treated like an object to be won by the men in The Quiet American. Both Fowler and Pyle
fight for her affections, without truly understanding her. Pyle sees Phuong as being an innocent,
delicate victim that needs to be saved from Fowler who he believes is taking her for granted. That

Cheating Scenarios
Scenario 0: I chose this scenario because in my collegiate career, I have actually experienced this
several times. It is a much more complex issue than it seems to be at face value. Yes, it is cheating and
dishonest, but in a real world environment people will always find the past of least resistance and this
is no different. And, maybe, it isn t the worst option? But that discussion is for later.
The people affected are obviously the students who lose out on a chance to learn the content, who
have a chance to carry this issue on to their future careers. But that has not been my experience. I have
not partaken in this, but I have seen it first hand and seen both cases. Yes, there are situations in which
these acts negatively affect students and their exam grades show it. But, I have also seen a ... Show

A student, let us call them Joe for the sake of simplicity, can either ignore it, and the cheater will still
have to take midterms and finals in which their knowledge will be tested, or Joe can try to contact the
professor about it and risk losing classmates as friends, study groups, and other aides that come with
knowing people that Joe could talk to about the classes they are in. Yes, there is a moral obligation to
do the right thing and inform the instructor or the dean, but it, like all moral and ethical decisions
come with a cost. Every person on the planet must make several ethical decisions every day, I am just
not sure this is one that is worth fighting over. As I said multiple times throughout the paper, no matter
how much the cheater abuses these scenarios, there will still be a final exam and possibly multiple
midterms in the class in which their knowledge on the subject will be tested. In my opinion, since it is
going to happen no matter what I do, I am fine with letting the exams decide their

East Coast Bloods Research Paper
The most commonly known gang in the area are the Bloods. According to many of the detectives in
the office, they are the most vicious and most violent gangs they have ever encountered. State versus
Gillens and Mercer are one of those encounters. The Bloods, or the United Blood Nation, was
developed around 1972. The Crips were dominating the streets of L.A. and were battling with multiple
street gangs. After a rumble with the street gang Pirus and murdering an L.A. Brim, the street gangs
had enough of the Crip s intimidation. They decided to unite all the street gangs which consisted of the
Piru Street Boys in Compton, L.A. Brim, the Pueblos, the Bishops, Athens Park Boys, and the Denver
Lanes. Soon enough they called their new gang the Bloods and took on the color red to show their
opposition against the Crips (Savelli, 2002). In 1993, the Bloods made their way over to the East
Coast and developed within the New York City jail system on Riker s Island George Mochen
Detention Center. It was formed as a means of protection for African American inmates from the Latin
Kings (Savelli, 2002). Soon enough, the East Coast Bloods flooded out of the jail system and onto the
streets of New York and New Jersey. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The At The Edge Of The Castle Training Field Essay
At the edge of the castle training field, bathed by the rays of a waning autumn sun, Percival reached
for Fleur s hand as they waited for the knighting ceremony to begin. Deena and Ida, their girls, sat in
the grass, vibrating with excitement. Banon lay down between them, basking in the glory of belly
rubs, as the dog always did. It seemed impossible that the girls were ten and Banon was almost eleven.
Hadn t they come into Percival and Fleur s life only yesterday?
A cool afternoon breeze kissed Percival s face, and with that, he gazed at the sparse clouds above and
recalled the past. He was almost thirty three, and somehow, the past seemed closer than ever.
So much had happened during the past decade.
When Deena and Ida turned one, Percival and Gwaine, on a mission in Ismere, had been captured and
forced into slavery by Morgana. That was a dark and frightening time for Percival and Gwaine, yet
eventually, Merlin and King Arthur rescued them. Percival recalled his homecoming, when Fleur
carrying the twins in her arms Rion, and Banon charged from the castle and ran to him, sobbing with
joy. Rion all but pulled Percival from his horse, and Percival and his family stood outside in the
downpour, reunited and grateful. He had never felt more loved than in that moment.
Further, Arthur had managed to negotiate peace with King Odin, and Camelot and Cornwall had not
warred in years.
Regardless, there had been more dark times.

Essay On Folic Acid In New Zealand
New Zealand s public health system is often considered to be on par with the world s best. Our social
welfare system cares for people without bankrupting them and we have a range of guidelines to ensure
that our food and resources are safe. However, it may be that we are failing in key areas of our health
system, particularly in the prevention of neural tube defects such as spina bifida. This failure may be
resulting in widespread and unnecessary suffering for the hundreds of New Zealanders that have been
inflicted with this needless and debilitating illness. Our government s inability to legislate the
supplementation of folic acid puts New Zealand behind the curve regarding health policy compared to
the rest of the world.

Another very serious NTD is anencephaly, in which infants are born with underdeveloped brains
and/or incomplete skulls and generally do not survive more than a few hours after birth. It is clear that
these horrific health outcomes need to be addressed with the utmost urgency.
Neural tube defects have a very negative impact on our society. Adding folic acid to our food will
have positive social implications because it will reduce the occurrence of babies diagnosed with
NTDs. Since the USA s mandatory fortification of folic acid in 1998, statistics have revealed that there
are approximately 1300 less NTD cases than pre fortification statistics indicated.10 This would
significantly benefit families who would instead have healthy babies, saving them the emotional
distress of having a child with an NTD and allowing them to live without the high demands and
healthcare costs involved with caring for a child with an NTD. This will also impact the wider society,
as babies with NTDs have a large impact on society due to the significant costs to the health and
disability sectors. A reduction in the number of babies requiring lifelong care will save society
millions of dollars and will greatly improve the quality of life of the babies themselves.
Organisations advocating for mandatory fortification in New Zealand include the Paediatric Society of
New Zealand and the New Zealand Medical Association. Approximately eighty

Honor In Henry IV, Part 1, And Achilles
The theme of honor can be found in many great works of literature. It is a theme that often plays into
who a character is and how they act. This is especially prevalent in the play Henry IV, Part 1 by
Shakespeare and the epic The Iliad by Homer. In these two works, there are characters who are
completely different concerning honor. The characters Falstaff, from Henry IV, Part 1, and Achilles,
from The Iliad, can be contrasted using the theme of honor. Falstaff can be contrasted with Achilles, in
relation to the theme of honor, because he is a dishonorable person. Falstaff is the most dishonorable
character in the play. He consistently does not give any thought to being honorable and even goes so
far as to say that honor is worthless. He just wants to take the easy path to having money and being
well thought of instead of working for it. So he will throw others under the bus to either make himself
look better or to make money. Falstaff makes many dishonorable decisions during the Boars Head
scene. Throughout the entirety of this scene, Falstaff lies and consistently tries to make himself look
better than what he actually is. Just before this scene Falstaff and his gang had just robbed some

them Want to Watch the Rest of the Film How is it that after watching the opening sequence to Baz
Luhrmann s Romeo and Juliet film (properly titled William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet) about
twenty times, the exhilarating thrill I experience from it still has not faded out? To grab the attention
of the viewers and keep their eyes glued to the screen as the movie starts, the director uses a variety of
special techniques, also to make it clear to the audience that this film is a far cry from the original
dullness associated with Shakespeare play recreations. Firstly, the range of music; the booming ...

This is the thought which Baz Luhrmann wants to put into the audiences mind for their first
impression of not so fair Verona; so after the news report is told, the camera whizzes into the screen
behind the news reader which displays a blown up petrol station, burning away as chaos fills the air.
The serenade of blasting classic opera music, which is played while the images of the shocking city
are presented, makes the seriousness and dramatic quality. The rapid montage of imagery adds to the
rush of adrenaline that is felt when you watch this scene. A police helicopter is shown hovering
unsteadily in the air. Moreover, as if it is being shot from the helicopter, bird s eye view shots are
taken with speed shots many long shots zooming into close ups as the panoramic view of the city is
previewed. It is as if Verona is being shaken by the crime when the noisy helicopter makes the camera
focus shaky. The fast editing which shows us police cars, people being chased and people being
injured makes the upbeat anxiety more effective. Another aspect of the opening, which I found
effective, is the voice over. Made to seem God like, it echoes the story in brief, in a somewhat worried
and disappointed tone of voice. Luhrmann indicates the ongoing vendetta by showing the close up
pictures of the families on Newspaper with flames flickering in front of the headlines,

Western Montana Fires
Final Report: The Fires of 1910: The Big Burn
In the summer of 1910 Northern Idaho and Western Montana were hit by what seemed like a never
ending series of destructive forest fires. With the spring bringing hardly any rainfall and drying winds
from the Columbia plains, creeks began to disappear and the montane forests became dry. Intense heat
along with high winds and dry vegetation create the perfect environment for forest fires. In June and
July several dry electric storms hit the mountains and fires began to develop in isolated corners of the
forest. The U.S. Forest Service which had just been developed in 1905 consisted of forest rangers on
horseback climbing the mountains and protecting the forest from fires (Bergoffen, 1976). As the ...

Henry Graves the chief of the Forest Service in 1910 believed that fire can be defeated and worked
with the state and private associations to fight fires by starting a fire protection campaign that would
eventually lead to the creation of Smokey Bear. He created the national forest policy for the United
States and in 1911 The Weeks Act was created which allowed the federal government to purchase
private lands and forests (Graves, 1919). In 1915 the Forest Service Research Branch was created in
order to find the best ways to manage national forests and to study the different trees and plants so that
reseeding and replanting of the forest could be done. Another important figure was Ranger Ed Pulaski

Architecture matters, it is omnipresence; we use and encounter it on a daily basis, but most often one

Surface Hardening of Cams for Venture Consulting
Introduction
Dean and Triana s invention is running into trouble when it is used continuously for long periods of
time because the cams are too soft, resulting in wear and misalignment in the invention. They already
have all of the cams, so switching materials is not an option, so we must find a way to harden the
surface of the cams to reduce wear. The cams are made of 1020 steel, which has a hardness of 111 HB,
and only has 0.20% carbon, classifying it as a low carbon steel. For this reason we recommend that
carburization be utilized to increase the carbon composition at the surface, and thus increase the
surface hardness. This occurs because the presence of carbon interstitially diffused ... Show more

Interstitial diffusion is the specific type of diffusion that will be going on. Interstitial diffusion
typically involves one substance with much smaller atoms than the substance it is moving into, and the
small atoms will move in between larger atoms in the lattice structure. We know that the radius of
Carbon is 67 pm or 67*10 12 m and the radius of radius of Iron is 156 pm or 156*10 12 m. Carbon
atoms are 89 picometers smaller in radius than Iron atoms. Carbon atoms are considerably smaller
than Iron atoms as they are smaller than half the size of iron atoms. Because of the small size of
carbon, it will enter the iron crystal structure through interstitial diffusion.
The Governing Equation for this diffusion is (C Co)/(Cs Co)=1 erf[ x/(2*(Dt)1/2)] .
This an equation for a non steady state diffusion process that has been derived from Fick s Second
Law which describes how atoms diffuse initially at a non steady state and has been described in:
Diffusion can be used for this problem because of the carburization process that will strengthen the
steel cams. Carburization is a process in which our steel cams will be heat treated in a high carbon
environment. What will be going on during this heat treatment, is the carbon in the atmosphere will be
diffusing into the cams through interstitial diffusion. The heat in the environment facilitates the
diffusion. The carbon diffuses from

reasonable amount of time to get back in to see my Doctor to work out a remedy for my condition

medically myself than compromise my ability to best serve my students academically. Furthermore,
the solution put forth would simply not be feasible in my current instructional environment, as I have
highly heterogeneous classes with students in different science courses and even different quarters of
the courses. In addition to my being able to implement the district s science performance task (lab)
assessment currently under development, my goal has been to develop self contained wet labs which
are readily available for students when they are at certain points in the curriculum. The items I only

time. I ve included the district science TOSA s letter below for your records, and the photo of the

Summary Of Macbeth Act 5 Scene 5
The scene analyzed from the book Macbeth (by William Shakespeare) is scene five from Act five.
While preparing for battle, Macbeth is informed of Lady Macbeth s death by the servant, Seyton. In a
nostalgic soliloquy, Macbeth reveals how he misses Lady Macbeth deeply.
Macbeth expresses his grief of losing Lady Macbeth while in great despair. The death of Lady
Macbeth was a big loss for Macbeth as it lowered his morale and confidence. In addition to worrying
about fighting the war, Macbeth had to deal with the tension of losing Lady Macbeth to death. In
addition to reading the soliloquy in Macbeth, a movie scene of Act five scene five was also watched.

Macbeth views himself as an idiot, full of sound and fury voicing out his thoughts that are Signifying
nothing . Trevor Nunn has Ian McKellan disgustedly utter this as a way to portray the regret Macbeth
has. Trevor Nunn used a meaningful element of facial expression to get the point across to the
audience. The theme of Macbeth s soliloquy has to do with the idea of karma (Whatever goes around
comes around). Macbeth s deeds only came back to bite him deeply at the end. Macbeth realizes that
the avaricious deeds he committed to fulfill his ambition affected him critically at the end. All
Macbeth did was kill harmless people to become King. If he patiently waited, he probably would have
became King at some point. Rather than waiting patiently, Macbeth impatiently set out on a journey to
become King. The witches prophecy and Lady Macbeth s compulsion caused him to suffer at the end.
Macbeth perceived life as meaningless due to Lady Macbeth s death. Macbeth realized how valuable
and precious life is. Macbeth discerned that the murders (murders of Duncan, Banquo, and Macduff s

Romeo Montague is characterized by his passion and his tendency to make rash decisions. Throughout
Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare provides examples of these two of Romeo s qualities, and, ultimately,

about how he is somber due to love and how love can destroy a person. He is feeling rejected due to
the fact that Rosaline does not love him back (1.1 L. 164 176). Romeo is infatuated with this woman.

Network: Anything reticulated or decussated at equal distances, with interstices between the

SECTION : 1
1.1 WHAT IS A NETWORK?
A) What is a network?
A network is simply a collection of machines connected in some way that allows them to
communicate with each other and share information. To do this the machines have to be connected in
some way that allows communication, and have an agreed upon a language to talk when they do
communicate.
Components of a network might include individual hosts, some form of communications hardware, a

Much larger than a LAN and all machines are not directly connected. WANs will generally have a
lower throughput than a LAN. All of the LANs on the CQU campus connect and form a WAN.
1.4 SOME MORE DEFINITIONS
Like any field of computing, networking has its own terminology. This section provides definitions for
some of the terms you ll come across.
· Packets and datagrams
Many networking protocols transmit information as packets. Information being sent across the
network is divided into small (hundreds of bytes usually) chunks of data, called packets. The
networking software at the sending end will break the outgoing data into packets. When the packets
arrive at their destination the networking software on the receiving machine will put them all back
together.
In some cases not all the packets will arrive at the destination using the same route. The packets may
also arrive out of order, packet 50 might arrive before packet 49. The networking software handles all
of this.
Under TCP/IP packets are often referred to as datagrams. Ethernet, on type of networking hardware,
refers to packets as frames
· Routing

multiple different possible routes that can be taken and the routing software must decide which to

Stock Market Game The first step when partaking in any type of a game is to decide what one s
strategy will be. The strategy that I had to determine was what my investment philosophy was going

investment philosophy is one s approach to tolerance for risk in investments. It may be conservative
which means you accept very little risk and are generally rewarded with relatively low rates of return.
Another investment philosophy is moderate also known as risk indifference, this means one accepts
some risk as they seek capital gains through slow and steady growth. Lastly, one may have an
aggressive investment philosophy or be more of a risker seeker. Often times, people strive for a very

There are many different approaches to researching broadcast media and each is as effective as the next. There are some methods more suited to certain topics than others and it is expected to know the most effective method for each topic to enhance the validity and reliability of the research. In this essay I will be answering the question, How do we research broadcast media? I will be evaluating and discussing some of these research methods and how essential a correct method can prove to be in academic research in broadcast media. The qualitative and quantitative approaches are two main methods in research. Qualitative research is mainly based on description rather than on measurement, whereas quantitative research is mostly based on measurement rather than description. Qualitative research is a method that usually gives emphasis to words rather than quantification in the collection and analysis of data. As a research strategy it is broadly inductivist, constructionist and interpretivist, but qualitative researchers do not always subscribe to all three of these features. (Bryman, A 2012) p380 Quantitative research involves the collection of numerical data. The secret of this containment system is forcing the water to focus around a 24 inch diameter and keep the soil moist rather than sprinkling water in a 10 foot diameter, wasting most of the water (Tandrea, December 2014). We are constantly using the perception of time in our sentences, but is time actually real? I personally think that time is an illusion. Another very serious NTD is anencephaly, in which infants are born with underdeveloped brains and/or incomplete skulls and generally do not survive more than a few hours after birth. It is clear that these horrific health outcomes need to be addressed with the utmost urgency. Neural tube defects have a very negative impact on our society. Adding folic acid to our food will have positive social implications because it will reduce the occurrence of babies diagnosed with NTDs. Since the USA s mandatory fortification of folic acid in 1998, statistics have revealed that there are approximately 1300 less NTD cases than pre fortification statistics indicated.10 This would significantly benefit families who would instead have healthy babies, saving them the emotional distress of having a child with an NTD and allowing them to live without the high demands and healthcare costs involved with caring for a child with an NTD. This will also impact the wider society, as babies with NTDs have a large impact on society due to the significant costs to the health and disability sectors. A reduction in the number of babies requiring lifelong care will save society millions of dollars and will greatly improve the quality of life of the babies themselves. Organisations advocating for mandatory fortification in New Zealand include the Paediatric Society of New Zealand and the New Zealand Medical Association. Approximately eighty ... • 27. Honor In Henry IV, Part 1, And Achilles The theme of honor can be found in many great works of literature. It is a theme that often plays into who a character is and how they act. This is especially prevalent in the play Henry IV, Part 1 by Shakespeare and the epic The Iliad by Homer. In these two works, there are characters who are completely different concerning honor. The characters Falstaff, from Henry IV, Part 1, and Achilles, from The Iliad, can be contrasted using the theme of honor. Falstaff can be contrasted with Achilles, in relation to the theme of honor, because he is a dishonorable person. Falstaff is the most dishonorable character in the play. He consistently does not give any thought to being honorable and even goes so far as to say that honor is worthless. He just wants to take the easy path to having money and being well thought of instead of working for it. So he will throw others under the bus to either make himself look better or to make money. How Baz Luhrmann s Interpretation of the Prologue Engages the Audience s Attention and Makes them Want to Watch the Rest of the Film How is it that after watching the opening sequence to Baz Luhrmann s Romeo and Juliet film (properly titled William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet) about twenty times, the exhilarating thrill I experience from it still has not faded out? To grab the attention of the viewers and keep their eyes glued to the screen as the movie starts, the director uses a variety of special techniques, also to make it clear to the audience that this film is a far cry from the original dullness associated with Shakespeare play recreations. This is the thought which Baz Luhrmann wants to put into the audiences mind for their first impression of not so fair Verona; so after the news report is told, the camera whizzes into the screen behind the news reader which displays a blown up petrol station, burning away as chaos fills the air. The serenade of blasting classic opera music, which is played while the images of the shocking city are presented, makes the seriousness and dramatic quality. The rapid montage of imagery adds to the rush of adrenaline that is felt when you watch this scene. A police helicopter is shown hovering unsteadily in the air. Moreover, as if it is being shot from the helicopter, bird s eye view shots are taken with speed shots many long shots zooming into close ups as the panoramic view of the city is previewed. It is as if Verona is being shaken by the crime when the noisy helicopter makes the camera focus shaky. The fast editing which shows us police cars, people being chased and people being injured makes the upbeat anxiety more effective. Another aspect of the opening, which I found effective, is the voice over. Made to seem God like, it echoes the story in brief, in a somewhat worried and disappointed tone of voice. Western Montana Fires Final Report: The Fires of 1910: The Big Burn In the summer of 1910 Northern Idaho and Western Montana were hit by what seemed like a never ending series of destructive forest fires. With the spring bringing hardly any rainfall and drying winds from the Columbia plains, creeks began to disappear and the montane forests became dry. Intense heat along with high winds and dry vegetation create the perfect environment for forest fires. In June and July several dry electric storms hit the mountains and fires began to develop in isolated corners of the forest. In 1915 the Forest Service Research Branch was created in order to find the best ways to manage national forests and to study the different trees and plants so that reseeding and replanting of the forest could be done. • 34. Essay On Surface Hardness Of Cang Surface Hardening of Cams for Venture Consulting Introduction Dean and Triana s invention is running into trouble when it is used continuously for long periods of time because the cams are too soft, resulting in wear and misalignment in the invention. They already have all of the cams, so switching materials is not an option, so we must find a way to harden the surface of the cams to reduce wear. The cams are made of 1020 steel, which has a hardness of 111 HB, and only has 0.20% carbon, classifying it as a low carbon steel. For this reason we recommend that carburization be utilized to increase the carbon composition at the surface, and thus increase the surface hardness. This occurs because the presence of carbon interstitially diffused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Interstitial diffusion is the specific type of diffusion that will be going on. Interstitial diffusion typically involves one substance with much smaller atoms than the substance it is moving into, and the small atoms will move in between larger atoms in the lattice structure. We know that the radius of Carbon is 67 pm or 67*10 12 m and the radius of radius of Iron is 156 pm or 156*10 12 m. Carbon atoms are 89 picometers smaller in radius than Iron atoms. Carbon atoms are considerably smaller than Iron atoms as they are smaller than half the size of iron atoms. Because of the small size of carbon, it will enter the iron crystal structure through interstitial diffusion. The Governing Equation for this diffusion is (C Co)/(Cs Co)=1 erf[ x/(2*(Dt)1/2)] . This an equation for a non steady state diffusion process that has been derived from Fick s Second Law which describes how atoms diffuse initially at a non steady state and has been described in: Diffusion can be used for this problem because of the carburization process that will strengthen the steel cams. Carburization is a process in which our steel cams will be heat treated in a high carbon environment. What will be going on during this heat treatment, is the carbon in the atmosphere will be diffusing into the cams through interstitial diffusion.
