the way a potential employee approached my dad, asking if he had a position for them to work
this summer. Filler words such as um and like are used very commonly throughout conversations
between individuals in this day and age, many individuals not even realizing they are using them.
But why do we use discourse markers? And do they make people seem unprofessional or

The women also typically thought they used less filler words than the men. This was surprising,
