2. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how do they
represent social groups or issues?
3. My film, “FETISH” uses the conventional method of shooting. In the five minutes, the
introduction of the film is of the opening title and then moves on to enthusiastic music
playing to introduce the life of the female protagonist via a long shot where she moves
around the room tending to life. I’ve chosen to keep it this way as it keeps up with how
the protagonist’s life has been so far without the added pressure of an explanation.
4. Shots and angles
I used a close up shot to project the emotions of the protagonist.
This is an over the shoulder shot to show the conversation between two people.
5. This is a long/wide shot to establish the time of day, area of shooting and the
protagonist in full frame.
This is a mid shot to show her expression in more detail towards the message
she just received. This shot was to show the protagonist’s expression in detail.
6. Lighting
I’ve chosen to make the lighting in each scene alter according to the mood of the
characters and the situation itself. All the outdoor scenes are set in natural lighting
while all the indoor scenes use artificial lighting.
7. Issues and representation
IThis film depicts a typical urban lifestyle a young woman is leading when she suddenly
comes across a man who stalks her and harasses her. This film speaks about eve teasing
and how a misunderstanding can escalate to become a much larger issue.
Harassment can lead to lives changing and “FETISH” takes a stance to show what
would seem normal or sub par to the world, can change someone’s life completely.
8. How do the elements of your production work together to
create a sense of branding?
9. The three elements of my film’s production, the official website, the postcard and the
film, come together in many ways. The color theme stays the same throughout the
various platforms. The poster has a colour scheme of blue and gray. The rest of the
platforms follow that scheme as well. The genre of my film is not extremely dark,
neither is it happy. So I chose blue and gray as my colour scheme. I chose to keep all
the fonts under the same family so it will give the film an edge.
The blog then further goes into detail tying up all the elements, taking into account all
the stages that were required to get to the end product - pre-production, production
and the post-production.
10. How does your end product engage with the audience and
how would they be distributed as real media products?
11. Target demographic
The target demographic is anyone and everyone as it addresses a social issue that
speaks volumes. The general audience needs to see short films or movies like these as
this not only speaks of stalking and harassment but also on how every detail of life
could change you and the way you see things. The audience may not relate as much to
this film but they will see this a message as it speaks the bitter truth. The world needs
to see the truth and sometimes it all doesn’t work out.
12. How the film engages with the audience
The film overall, has a serious plot. Many people can relate to the normal life the
female protagonist leads before the incident. The male protagonist apologizes
profusely, leaving the audience confused on what the characters motives truly were. It
gives the audience more than just another film that involves stalking and harassment
as the characters are realistic.
14. As a real media product, the promotion of “FETISH” would be in both, new media as
well as traditional media as the film targets a large demographic.
The film would be released worldwide as it is not culture specific and the plot of the
film is made for any audience. “FETISH” would also be a major part of social media as
it attracts more of an audience. Social media platforms such as - Facebook, Twitter and
Instagram.
Posters will be put up on billboards. After the release of “FETISH” in theaters, it will be
available on Video on demand sites, such as - Amazon Prime, Amazon, YouTube and
iTunes.
“FETISH” would also screen on television followed by which, it will be available for
streaming on Netflix and Hulu so it can reach a much larger audience target.
15. How did you integrate technologies - software, hardware
and online - in this product?
19. How I used the different platforms of
technology on my film
I used Google Docs to write my plot and my script and Google Slides for my critical
review at first.
I used Adobe Premiere Pro CC to edit my film and realized how crucial editing is.
I used Photoshop CC for my poster and postcard and then used GarageBand for
scoring my film.
And with the help of Wix Website Designer, I created the official website for my film
in which I first chose a template and then took it from there the way I felt would be
best for my website.
20. I used a Nikon D5200 camera to shoot my film along with a tripod for all shots except
for the OTS shots. I used a basic tripod for the rest of the shots in order to keep the
frame steady.
As far as online technologies go, I used my blog on wordpress, which helped me keep
track on my coursework and technologies as a whole.
I also used YouTube and its royalty free music and sound effects for the rest of my film
which wasn’t scored.
Overall, different technologies came together to form the output of my film “FETISH”.
