Virtual Experimentation and Simulation project.
Peter Holloway is a Systems Engineer with Rolls Royce Limited. He leads a team of simulation
tool developers that code, refine, and integrate existing modeling tools that are used in the
preliminary design phases of their jet engines. The preliminary design stages involve identifying
candidate engine architectures, preparing proposals, and presenting proposals to customers such as
Boeing and Airbus. Peter has been involved in simulation for about ten years in a number of
different companies and at various levels. His team consists mostly of domain experts that have lent
themselves to programming, with between three and five years of systems design experience.
Rolls Royce has a culture of allowing its engineering staff to develop experimentation and
simulation tools within their domain of expertise. Often however, these domain experts are not
experienced programmers and the tools the engineers develop are used by only a few people within
that domain. Peters team takes these tools, improves the code, making the tools more robust, and
most importantly from a simulation point of view, making the different tools talk to each other in
whole system simulation software.

The future of the death penalty lies unclear in the cross country battle over whether or not it should
be abolished. The death penalty should in fact be abolished because of the extreme costs and
painful time involved to house and execute inmates, the indecision of which method of execution is
the most humane, and the increasing number of innocent inmates being wrongfully executed.
The number of death sentences peaked at about 315 in 1996, but last year dropped to only 73. In
addition, the number of prisoners on death row dropped 17% from 3,593 in 2000, to 3,000 in
2015(Wolf and Johnson 1). Despite this rapid decline in the amount of death sentences and

Abstract This paper describes a process in which olives were preserved in acidic brine and then
exposed to an overpressure of oxygen. This experiment determined that after being exposed for one
to three days that the fruit no longer had a bitter taste. It is thought that this is due to the oxidation
of the phenolic compounds contained within the olives. It was shown that this correlated with a
decrease in the amount of bound glucoside oleuropein found within the samples. Several variables
were tested such as the overpressure level, concentration of oxygen, and temperature. The results

When exposed to open air for five days at various temperatures (20 and 40 degree Celsius) the
bitterness remained. However, the bitterness was completely absent in fruits treated with an
overpressure of oxygen. It was shown that the rate of debittering was dependent on the
concentration of oxygen. As the concentration of oxygen was increased, the faster the oxidation
occurred throughout the entire fruit. The rate was also faster in samples treated with pure oxygen
rather than pressurized air as seen in Figure 3. Temperature did not affect the rate of the debittering
process in samples treated with pure oxygen but cut the time of the reaction in half in samples
using air. It was found that fruits that underwent oxidation reaction under overpressured conditions

chromatograms (Figure 4) were used to show the decrease and/or absence of the bitterness
compounds. In the chromatogram you can see a clear absence of both oleuropein and
hydroxytyrosol in the treated juice and oil. This means the oxidation occurred and did in fact
eliminate the target compounds. The oxidation reaction occurs at the two alcohol groups attached

My story Beginnings First of all I was born in Peoria, IL November 11, 2004 we have 6 people in

The overall length of pull was short, the comb height was non existent and I would have to break
cheek weld all the time, and lastly the pitch was awful. The pitch is what I ll cover seeing how it
was the most problematic for me. If the shooter were to draw a line that bisected the rifle from
