Commentary On Date Rape
I found this play difficult to read. The overall tone of the piece was tinged with sadness. As I
read, I would have to occasionally put it down to keep from crying. I m not exactly sure why this
piece affected me so emotionally, but I feel that an emotional response to artwork is pretty
significant. As I felt like crying, I was surprised by the section which talks about whiteness and a
prescriptive notion that people shouldn t be emotional. The lady in blue states ...yes let s go on and
be white...let s think our way out of feeling (shange 54). This was interesting commentary on the
way in which dominant culture undervalues the body and emotions. Certainly all people have the
capacity to be emotional and venerable, but these qualities are often... Show more content on

It was violent and in many ways another sort of bodily invasion. First the speaker must endure
the brutality and humiliation of rape, and then she must endure the pain and danger of this
medical procedure. This brought me back to Rich s Compulsory heterosexuality and her
complication of consent and choice. I would very firmly argue that abortion should be an option
for women, but I wonder how this procedure can be free from coercion within a violent
patriarchal rape culture. I also found that the mixture of experiences this play portrays is very
important. These women can share certain aspects of their experience, but they are far from the
same. I found the lady in blue s story especially impactful. She is a clear embodiment of the way
in which trauma and tragedy can make one feel that they must be cold and distant to survive and
avoid further brutality. She argues that nice is such a rip off and I can certainly see her point
(shange 53). The way in which that bitterness is used against each of the characters is also
beautifully written and incredibly

Examples Of Medical Negligence
Medical Negligence
Negligence means the breach of a legal duty to care. In wider sense it means carelessness in a
matter in which law mandates carefulness. Negligence is a predominant theory of liability
concerning allegations of medical malpractice. Medical malpractice occurs when a health care
provider deviates from the recognized standard of care in the treatment of a patient. The standard
of care is defined as what a reasonably prudent medical provider would or would not have done
under the same or similar circumstances. Persons who offer medical advice and treatment
implicitly state that they have the skill to decide whether to take a case, to decide the treatment,
and to administer that treatment. This is know as implied undertaking ... Show more content on

Medical mistakes in the diagnosis and treatment of hospital patients are unfortunately among the
most common cases of hospital malpractice seen by malpractice lawyers. Misdiagnosis of the
patient s condition, improperly interpreted diagnostic tests, negligently performed surgeries and
medication errors are all examples of medical negligence and can all have devastating effects on
patients already admitted to a hospital with an illness or injury. This can be considered hospital
malpractice.
Understaffing of hospitals and overworking of hospital employees contributes to the dangers of a
hospital visit. Long delays in emergency rooms, as well as waiting for radiology tests and delays in
performing surgery can all permit a patient s condition to worsen. In addition, patients frequently
arrive at the hospital with one type of illness, and sustain an injury or infection in the hospital that
they never had before. Often these patients are in much worse physical condition leaving the
hospital than when they went in. Sometimes patients injured by a hospital in the case of medical
negligence require extensive treatments or multiple surgeries to

Rationale for the Study
The federal, state and local government has a concern for education. Depending on the individual
who wants to give their opinion on education, the opinion will vary greatly.

The intention of this study is to investigate enrollment in career and technical courses, participation
in career and technical student organizations, work based learning experiences, and admission into
a two year technical college, community college, four year universities, or directly to work. This
can only have been achieved through successful completion of a graduation program.
While in high school, students may elect to take courses in career and technical education as aligned
to their personal interests and aptitude while in high school. Career and Technical Education
programs throughout of the state of Texas allow students to participate in co curricular student
organizations, also known as Career and Technical Education Student Organizations, that
correspond to courses that students participate while in high school. By joining these student
organizations, student gain the opportunity to learn leadership skills, participate in high quality
learning activities and competitions at the local, state and national levels, and have the ability to
extend their learning to real world experiences that help build quality college and career ready
candidates after high school (Davis Alexander, 2013).
Students also have the ability to participate in on the job training with

The Importance Of Foreign Language In Schools
In the nineteenth century, the United States set the precedence for racism. While the problems may
appear consummated, the people of today know that is not totally the case. With the amount of
cultural presence continuously growing, the ubiquity of foreign language should be taken more
seriously. One reason to learn them [foreign languages] is because they are tickets to being able to
participate in the culture of the people who speak them, just by virtue of the fact that it is their
code, begins McWhorter of TED (McWhorter, 2016). Consequently, schools should offer foreign
languageclasses sooner in a child s life than freshman year of high school because this type of
learning introduces them to cultural differences, increases their learning abilities and helps them
understand learning styles of varying levels.
Throughout the years, U.S. citizens have viewed the United States as the dominant country. When
discussing the topic of languages, many are quick to reply with English, and some even fight for
countless hours over the legality of English becoming the universal language. However, while a
large amount of the people in the United States speak American English, the government cannot
calibrate the official language of the United States today (Constitution, 2017). Many people who
speak a second language also learn English, so they can cater to the needs of those in America.
Now, Mandarin Chinese is spoken by more people, but more Chinese people are learning English

Battle Of Fredericksburg Importance
Despite it being the largest battle in the Civil War, what made the Battle of Fredericksburg
important? The Battle of Fredericksburg was one of the largest and deadliest battles of the Civil
War. It was fought between the Union Forces, who were led by Ambrose Burnside, and the
Confederate Forces, who were led by Robert E. Lee. The battle occurred in Fredericksburg,
Virginia on December 13, 1862. This battle was one of the Union s worst defeat during the Civil
War.
Like mentioned before, the Battle of Fredericksburg was fought between Ambrose Burnside, with a
Union Army that consist of more than 120,000 troops, and Robert E. Lee, with a Confederate
Army of 80,000. Ambrose Burnside was a Union General during the Civil War. He was part of the

Old Chief Mshlanga Character Analysis
For some, coming of age is a time of obstacles and success in a young youth s life. It involves a
number of trials that is needed to overcome to become mature. Although, obstacles are not the
only features that a young adolescents will encounter. The journey will happen beginning with
successes and triumphs that will come to the shaping of who they are to become. One can
simply presume that the occurrence taking place in the world would have a strong impact on
how an adolescent comes of age. The tale Old Chief Mshlanga focuses on the main character,
the protagonist known as she or little Nkosikaas her encounter with an African chieftain that
causes her to see the differences between her people and the natives of the land they reside. The
author, Doris Lessing, uses the protagonist to show radically changing attitudes towards the Old
Chief Mshlanga. At the age of fourteen, the nameless protagonist meets Old Chief Mshlanga on
a walk with her dogs, a native tribal leader who used to own the whole area. The chief s pride
and respect make the girl gingerly change her opinion of natives and reconsider her prejudiced
vision and idea. As a result, she begins to be more pleasant towards the natives she encounters.
The girl s inner characterization resembles a coming of age character. She develops because of the
action and her traits as a child are presented in contrast with her traits as a teenager. This contrast is
emphasized using the third person narrator at the beginning of

The Pros And Cons Of Eugenics
Eugenics is the science of improving the qualities of the human species or a human population by
controlled breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristic traits and
decrease the occurrence of undesirable characteristic traits or genetical defects (Webster, 1828.)
Eugenic sterilizationrefers to the involuntary sterilizationof certain categories of individuals
without their need for consent by those subjected to the procedure (Pozgar, 2012, Pg. 411.)
Individuals classified as mentally deficient, feeble minded, epileptic, promiscuous, sexual
deviants, or persons classified as habitual criminals were mainly targeted (Pozgar, 2012, Pg. 411.)
Eugenicists argued degenerate traits tainted society through the reproduction of the lowest class
and sterilization was to keep the handicapped from perpetuating themselves (Kaelber, 2014.) In
addition, eugenicists also argued that feeble minded individuals were believed to be financial
burdens to society by overcrowding prisons, hospitals and living off welfare (Kaelber, 2014.)
Sterilization was seen as a way to prevent the spending of tax dollars on the feeble minded
(Kaelber, 2014.) These arguments allowed Eugenicsto become an acceptable practice. Advocates
believed that getting rid of the feeble minded and mentally deficient would decrease the undesirable
characteristic traits within the human gene pool and ultimately improve the human population. The
very first sterilization law was passed in

American Football Touchdowns
In American Football, the key is to score the most points. I am just going to tell you how to
exactly do that. There are five different ways to score in American Football. There are various
ways to score these points on each side of the ball. The most common ways in scoring result in
either a touchdown or a field goal. However, there are a few other ways to score in the gameof
football.
Touchdowns are the most common scoring drives in football. A touchdown is when an offensive
player carrying the ball crosses the line of the opponents end zone resulting in a six point scoring
drive down field. Touchdowns can be scored from each side of the ball. It is more common to have
a touchdown on the offensive side of the ball rather than the defensive

Sources of Business Finance
Q 1. Discuss about different Sources of Business Finance.
Different Sources of Business Finance
Business is concerned with the production and distribution of goods and services for the
satisfaction of needs of society. For carrying out various activities, business requires money. Finance
, therefore, is called the life blood of any business. A business cannot function unless adequate
funds are made available to it. The initial capital contributed by the entrepreneur is not always
sufficient to take care of all financial requirements of the business. A business person, therefore,
has to look for different other sources from where the need for funds can be met. A business can
raise funds from various sources. Each of the sources has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Further, through their right to vote, these shareholders have a right to participate in the
management. However, equity shares also carry more risk.
2. Preference Shares
The capital raised by issue of preference shares is called preference share capital. The preference
shareholders enjoy a preferential position over equity shareholders in two ways: (i) receiving a
fixed rate of dividend, out of the net profits of the company, before any dividend is declared for
equity shareholders; and (ii) receiving their capital after the claims of the company s creditors
have been settled, at the time of liquidation. In other words, as compared to the equity
shareholders, the preference shareholders have a preferential claim over dividend and repayment of
capital. Preference shares have some characteristics of both equity shares and debentures.
Preference shareholders generally do not enjoy any voting rights. Investments in these shares are
safe, and a preference shareholder also gets dividend regularly.
3. Debentures
Debentures are an important instrument for raising long term debt capital. Whenever a company
wants to borrow a large amount of fund for a long but fixed period, it can borrow from the general
public by issuing loan certificates called Debentures.
A company can raise funds through issue of debentures, which bear a fixed rate of interest. A
debenture is issued under the common

David Hudson from GreenCine.com argues that, [Horror]...the social milieu is sketched and the
political and psychological undercurrents of German Expressionism are drawn out. Robert Weine
s classic horror film, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, is no exception as it is based on the main
character Francis (Friedrich FehГ©r) and his recollections of the murderous Dr. Caligari, and his
somnambulist partner in crime, Cesare. This film being noted as the first of the German

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari on the other hand is specifically designed during a time period that
was looking at film as an art piece that with every detail on the screen being dripped with
symbolism and meaning much like a painting. It is only appropriate that film experts and
observers understand the full implications German Expressionism has endued in some part onto its
successors of film styles. Siegfried Kracauer states that the directors at a particular point in the
course of this expressionist movement realized the benefit of articulating film concepts to manifest
emotion, and declare any given opinion through, the whole visual sphere: their outspoken feeling
for impressive settings, their virtuosity in developing action through appropriate lighting (Caligari

role in what make this film credible for the success of the expressionist movement. These
components when assimilated reveal the psychological advances and reactions that define
characters, are conveyed throughout the bleak settings of the film, and exhibits the dramatic
dimensions of the world created. It is best to leave the reader with this quote from Kracauer s

CDs with their ability to form molecular inclusion complexes with drug substances, will affect
many of the physicochemical properties of the drugs without affecting their vital pharmacological
properties [6,7]. Due to the availability, cost and cavity dimensions the parent ОІ cyclodextrin
(ОІCD) is the most extensively used [11,12]. Complexation efficiency can be improved by the
addition of small amounts of a hydrophilic polymer to drug CD complexes. Formation of ternary
complexes between the drug, cyclodextrin and a third component of an aqueous complexation
medium can increase the solubility, bioavailability, palatability and stability constants of drug CD

Through the personal stories depicted in The Alumni Interview by David Levithan and The

Psychoanalyticism In The Tempest
The Tempest Critical Essay
During this course of the play the psychoanalytical criticism can be applied while reading the
scenes in The Tempest. As Freud argues that all humans have a dark side to them, we tend to hide
this side of us as we get older. In the Tempest, Caliban could represent this uncontrolled side of
human nature. Caliban is seen to be the superego which is can be seen to be evident when he does
not wish to receive Prospero s physical punishments. Despite his punishments, his desires fail to
remain within him. Caliban is also missing his mother in this play which leads him to feel
inadequacy. Prospero is one of the only obstacles between him and Miranda. Prospero s desire for
power and control over the characters in the play, shows Freud s theory coming into play, if one
craves power, it is possibly because one has lacked in its childhood.
This play has symbols that represent the imagery in it. The symbol water is often shown
through this play either by saying or showing it. The image of water is often shown to be
deadly. As Ferdinand lost his father at sea, he deems to think that his father drowned as they
were involved in a shipwreck. Water plays a huge symbol and image in this play as the setting
takes place on an Island near the Bermuda Triangle. Water in this play is to be seen as a lost.
Ariel s song leads Ferdinand to think that his father drowned at sea and is gone forever. Ariel s song

History Of The Atomic Model Paper
History of the Atomic Model Paper Philip Wang Over the course of the last 5000 years, mankind s
knowledge has been constantly advancing. Chemistry, a branch of science, has experienced a
tremendous leap and expansions since ancient Greek civilization. One of the major breakthroughs
in the advancement in Chemistry was the creation of the Atomic theory, which laid a foundation for
the modern day Chemistry and future of science. The Atomic theory introduced the idea of atoms,
which are defined as the discrete units of matter. There are five key scientists that significantly
contributed to the Atomic model over a span of thousands of years. They are: Democritus, John
Dalton, J.J. Thompson, Ernest Rutherford, and Niels Bohr. Democritus, an Ancient Greek
philosopher, is widely considered to be the founding father of the Atomic Theory. Democritus
proposed that matter is composed of atoms, which move through empty space. He also proposed
that atoms are solid, homogeneous, indestructible, and indivisible, and that different types of atoms
have different kinds of sizes and shapes, which determine the properties of matter. Democritus and
other Greek philosophers Leucippus and Epicurus, were among the first to propose the size, shape,
and connectivity of atoms. Democritus theorized that iron atoms are solid with hooks (which
locked them in place with each other, therefore creating a solid), water atoms are smooth and
slippery, (which caused them to be in a liquid state),

Max Weber And His Contributions
Phala Monte
Ms. Berner
SYG 2000 01Z
7 June 2015
Max Weber and His Contributions Throughout the early 1900s, Max Weber was considered as one
of the three founders of sociology, because he had acquired many ideas that profoundly influenced
social theory and social research. For sociology as a whole, Weber s study of sociology is
theoretical historical, because he had the idea of rationalization based on his observations from the
Protestant Work Ethic and other societies to analyze modern societies. This led to the
development of one of the main theoretical perspectives, known as interactionism; Weber had
supported the view of symbolic interactionism, because his earlier ideas mainly focused on the
individual s viewpoint and experience and how that person would relate to society. Weber had
changed the way sociologists view individuals within this theoretical perspective, based on his
contributing ideas. To start with early life, Karl Emil Maximilian Weber was born in 1864, in
Erfurt, Province of Saxony, Prussia. (Winch 735). His mother, Helene Fallenstein, was part of
humanitarian and religious convictions, and his father, Max WeberSr., was a National Liberal
parliamentary deputy. His wife Marianne Schnitger was a feminist activist. While Weber never paid
attention in school, he read Goethe, which might have had influenced his theorist ideas and
methodology (Winch 735). Later, he engaged in the University of Heidelberg to study law, then he
transferred to the University

The tension between the colonies and Britain was nothing new. There were several occasions where
the colonies became greatly infuriated with the unpleasant treatment they were receiving. Prior to
the year 1770, much of the outcry came from the acts passed by the British government, such as the
Stamp Act, Quartering Act, and Declaratory Act ( A Timeline of the American Revolution). Even
though the colonists were infuriated, it would take something more to push them over the edge.
This something would turn out to be what is now called the Boston Massacre. Although the Boston
Massacre won t go down as the deadliest massacre in American history, it will go down as one of
the most pivotal turning points due to the colonists depiction of the event. Several things
happened leading up to the massacre itself, which are important to note. The colonists were
becoming increasingly frustrated with Britain, which led to political unrest. To counteract this
unrest, British troops were sent to Boston, where they arrived on October 1, 1968. Originally,
there wasn t an open resistance to the presence of the troops. Over time, things would change,
which can be derived from the events of March 5, 1770. There were two sides: the mob of
colonists and the the British soldiers. The colonists ended up attacking a British sentinel, leaving
the British captain to call in more soldiers, who were also attacked. Shots were fired by the
British, killing a total of 5 and wounding 6

Super Smash Tradition
This weekend I attended the very first Super Smash Con a large sized Super Smash Tournament and
video game celebration. The gaming convention held in Chantilly, VA featured exhibitors, vendors,
live music, and competitions.
More than just a tournament
As I sat waiting to hear the Washington Metropolitan Gamer Symphony Orchestra (WMGSO), I
spoke with a thirty nine year old father who brought his son to the convention who also enjoyed
video games. The father talked bout how he grew up with video games he mentioned how he found
his old Nintendo 64 in his parents house and then gave it to his son which in turn became interested
in video games classic games.
This was a common theme among attendees that I mingled with the vendors ... Show more content

On display were consoles, handhelds, arcade machines, books and other gaming memorabilia that
represented a time in history. Many of the items were donated from the conventions sponsors.
Sprinkled around the convention I found pockets of gamers tied to their Nintendo handhelds, while
others could be seen crowding around an old tube TV cheering on a friend that was playing in a
tournament. Others could be found hanging out in the arcade.
Still, Super Smash Con had more to offer. There were also musical acts that performed, to include,
The Washington Metropolitan Gamer Symphony Orchestra, Jomela, and the The Kyle Athayde
Dance Party. In addition to the music, there were frequent performances by Urban Evolution a
fitness group that performed their version of Smash VBrothers using a blend of freerunning and
parkour.
On the last day there was a costume contest where I found contestants doing their best to represent
their chosen gaming character. Given the amount of audience members I could tell that attendees
were excited to see something like this. I too felt as though it was a nice bonus addition to the other
activities that were

Russian Gas As A Foreign Policy Weapon
With 53% of the European Union s energy being imported in 2013, it is not a surprise that the
European Union is continuously seeking alternative energy methods to help gain energy
independence. If not complete independence, they hope to lower their reliance on Russia who to
frequently uses its energy dominance as a foreign policy weapon. Russian and Ukrainian disputes
in 2006, 2009, and 2014 have led to critical gas shortages across the European Union and a public
opinion that Russian natural gas is unreliable (1). The Czech Republic has been one of the many
member states who has suffered from these supply shortfalls. These crises along with other
difficulties of importing a majority of their energy supply has propelled the Czech Republic... Show

Feed in tariffs as well as feed in premiums supported renewable electricity generation. These rates
were guaranteed for 20 years with hydropower generators rates being guaranteed for 30 years.
Additionally, investment support and green bonuses were given to renewable heating sources.
Furthermore, a sharp decline in the prices of solar panels led the Czech Republic to become the 4th
largest in terms of newly installed photovoltaic systems (5).
In 2009, the Czech Republic implemented a program to promote renewable energy within the
residential building sector. This program was entitled the Green Savings Programme. While the
program had a slow start, by September 2010 the applications for the program exceeded the
funding. The Programme promotes the use of thermal insulation, renewable energy sources for
space and water heating, and passive house design. The program stopped in 2010 due to the surge
of applicants, but was rebooted in 2013. This program is estimated to have a budget of 1.1 billion
euros by 2020 (5).
While the Green Savings Programme may have survived through the years, the Act on the
Promotion of the Use of Renewable Energy Sources wasn t so lucky. In January of 2011, solar
energy producers receiving feed in tariff support were taxed 26% and if they were receiving a
green bonus they were taxed 28%. This tax was introduced to slow down photovoltaic installments

Riots During The 18th Century
During the 18th century, riots were formed a recurrent features of the social and political life in

Analysis Of George Orwell s The Road
In The Road to Wigan Pier (1937), Orwell tries out his own understanding of socialism, with
striking phrasing: We ve got to fight for justice and liberty. And socialism does mean justice and
liberty, when the nonsense is stripped off it. He further declares that the real socialist is one who
wishes not merely conceives it as desirable but actively wishes to see tyranny overthrown (Orwell,
The Road 76). One senses here that the point is not the ultimate triumph of a particular doctrine or
party, but the triumph of human dignity. This triumph can be achieved by war and revolution.
Orwell wrote to Cyril Connolly, telling him: I have seen wonderful things and at last really believe
in Socialism, which I never did before (Orwell, Collected Essays 269). Although it was clear that
he was at least intellectually committed to socialism, it was Spain that gave his socialism an
emotional Bedrock and dictated the course his socialism would take. In his preface to the Ukrainian
edition of Animal Farm he wrote:
Nothing has contributed so much to the corruption of the original idea of Socialism as the belief
that Russia is a Socialist country and that every act of its rulers must be excused, if not imitated.
And so for the past ten years I have been convinced that the destruction of the Soviet myth was
essential if we wanted a revival of the Socialist movement (Orwell, Preface 339).
Orwell later clarified his position through writing that

Kino s Harmful Decisions In The Pearl By John Steinbeck
In the novel, The Pearl by John Steinbeck, Kino, the main character is responsible for his son,
Coyotito s death. Kino is responsible due to his rash and harmful decisions he made without
thinking of the consequences. Despite the dangers and warnings signs he encountered, he
continued on with his damaging behavior. Kino s dynamic and unique personality is a heavy part
of his character, as well as his animalistic behavior, which are reasons why he repeatedly makes
audacious decisions. Throughout the story, Steinbeck displays Kino s animalistic and childlike

Three Types of Friends Essay
A friend is defined as someone emotionally close or somebody who trusts and is fond of another.
The affect that a person one calls his or her acquaintance can sometimes be very deep and
heartfelt. From my experience, I have encountered three types of friends: the chronic complainer,
the staller, and the know it all. A chronic complainer is a he or she that is fault finding. Chronic
complainers choose to blame someone else or something for his or her actions. Also, they are
uncertain about what should be done. I have this friend that I consider a chronic complainer; she
never takes the blame for anything and no matter what the situation is she s going to find a
problem. There have been plenty of times that we would go out to eat, and our... Show more content

The staller would not be of any help with moving or any other hard job. The person I know that
fits this description is not a friend but actually a family member. This person comes to do the
simplest job ever, but has to call two or three more people to come help him out. Instead of him
helping he stands there and gives out orders to everyone else. He also dose not get his important
business handled; he likes to sit around and wait until the last minute or until it s too late before
he tries to do anything about a situation. This is not someone who you would want helping you
with some very important job. Last but not least is the know it all. The know it all acts superior
and makes others feel stupid. They also maybe bullheaded and impatient; know it alls really don
need or want any help. One of my closest friends is a prime example of a know it all. She knows
everything that is discussed and want let anyone else put there say so in about the topic. One
day one of my cousins and I were talking about the cost of daycare and she just cut both of us off
and went on talking about the different costs. She didn t know what she was talking about
because she dose not have any kids. So when I cut her off and went to correcting her she got so
mad with me because what I was saying made more sense than what she was saying. Know it alls

Pros And Cons Of Weathering Lab
Discussion and Conclusion: I hypothesized that the four limestones being introduced to the four
different solutions used in this chemical weathering lab would weather at different rates. First, in
cup one, it was hypothesized that the 50% vinegar solution will have the greatest amount of
chemical weathering on the limestone, because the 50% vinegar solution is the strongest and most
like actual acid rains. Next, in cup two, it was hypothesized that the 10% vinegar solution will have
less chemical weatheringeffects than cup one, because the 10% vinegar solution has less chemical
weathering strength compared to the 50% solution. Additionally, in cup three, it was hypothesized
that the soda water solution will have less chemical weathering... Show more content on

It is seen all around us from headstones, to national parks, to the Statue of Liberty. First, chemical
weathering is one of the main reasons cemeteries commonly use a quartz or granite headstone
instead of limestone for today s memorial markers. The older limestone based markers have
shown they deteriorate over time from environmental factors, such as chemical weathering, and
become difficult or even impossible to read (Best Materials for Gravestones). This is also true of
many older monuments. Next, chemical weathering can be seen in national parks. In Carlsbad,
New Mexico, the Carlsbad Caverns were created due to chemical weathering. They were formed
by sulfuric acid that dissolved limestone (National Geographic, 2011). Finally, chemical weathering
is also prevalent on the Statue of Liberty. The weathering of the copper of the statue has caused
oxidation resulting in a thin layer of patina on Lady Liberty (Why is the Statue of Libery Green?).
Weathering is a natural process and some sources of chemical weathering are natural; however
some causes of chemical weathering are from human activities. Chemical compounds released into
the air contribute to chemical weathering. These compounds can come from the emissions from
factories, power plants, and automobiles. Chemical weathering speeds up the weathering process
and is changing the Earth s

The Importance Of Drug Testing And Background Screening
Drug testing and background screening allows staff to be able to separate sexual predators, violent
criminals and drug abusers. This is to protect staff, volunteers and residents from harm and to
determine what type of help abusers need. Drug tests and background screenings are necessary to
ensure the safety of residents, volunteers and staff at the homeless shelter. Homeless shelters
administer background screenings and drug testing to all potential residents. Drug testing is to
determine what type of help they need to provide. Background screenings are to expose any violent
criminals or sexual predators. The purpose of this is to help the shelter meet its goals. Should
homeless shelters administer background screenings and drug tests? Drug testing and background
screenings allow staff to separate sexual predators, violent criminals and drug abusers. This is to
protect staff, volunteers and residents from harm and to determine what help drug and alcohol
abusers need. This is to protect residents, also to provide a safe, comfortable place to live. The
purpose of this is to ensure the safety of residents, volunteers and staff at the shelter. Drugs and
alcohol have always been closely linked to homelessnessand people who have committed violent or

Battle Of San Jacinto Battle Analysis
The Battle of San Jacinto is an interesting event for evaluation through battle analysis. Although
fought between the independent country of Texas and Mexico, it has been adopted into the psyche
of U.S. History as a major battle that has a significant contribution to the general history of the U.S.
Much like the Alamo, the Battle of San Jacinto relied heavily on imported forces from varying
places throughout the U.S. to supplement Texastroops, making the interwoven nature of the Texas
battle in U.S. history logical. The Battle of San Jacinto has been selected for a battle analysis due
to its prominence in U.S. history, but also because of a heightened level of bias that often appears
in the re telling of the narrative of this battle. One

Alice Parker Rhyme Scheme
In an incendiary blend of form and deep meaning, Parker is able to relay a precautionary tale to
modern women about modern love through a cynical synopsis that forewarns her readers to
shield themselves from naivety. Parker uses a conventional rhyme scheme (ABABAB) to frame
the portrait of her image of modern romance for her reader, and when read aloud it sounds like a
lullaby of sorts. Mr. Player drew my attention to the irony in Parker s rhyme scheme, for when
read aloud it sounds like a sing songy nursery rhyme yet carries a substantially more serious
message. Her diction is simplified, yet astutely worded to convey a concise message to her reader.
As Mr. Player read this aloud, I envisioned the poem as dialogue of three speakers. In her

What Is Eureka
Eureka! Poe s thoughts on the universe and its relation to God
The Universe is a plot of God. Is one of the main ideas expressed throughout Eureka a Prose
Poem in which Edgar Allan Poe expresses his thoughts on the creation and purpose of the
universe (Poe). As a writer Poe has been known to be a man of the arts, a poet. Eureka is truly
one of its own among Poe s works, especially since it was his last major work before his death(. A
Prose Poem he called it. Although he was not expectant of his death, Eureka seems to be his last
testament of what he believes is the collective universe. Not surprisingly, God has the same
occupation in the universe as his, God is a writer. As a man of thought he left this earth with a
final testament to the world in which he wishes to explain the universe for all those who seek the

Poaching And Robin Hood
INTRODUCTION
We, the people of the world, do many things for the sake of our survival. Things that we are very
proud of and things that we are not. People have needs and they do or invent things based off of
their needs. How far they are willing to go is the million dollar question. Poaching has been
going on since the world began, but it did not become a problem and become illegal until the
Late Middle Ages. In the times where the lower class were peasants and the upper class had
control of pretty much everything. Robin Hood was of the first well known poachers during this
time period. His reasoning, like the reasoning like many other that poach, Hood was in desperate
need of money and food for his family. With the help of his crew, Hood... Show more content on

Although, in reality the number of people that actually know why poaching is done is very low.
Poaching, by definition, is the illegal act of killing, capturing, or removing mammals, birds, fish,
reptiles, insects, or plants from their natural habitats. (Greene, 1994, p.11). Yes. poaching is
illegal but there is a reason to why people feel the need to do these types of things. One of the first
reasons to why started poaching in the beginning was the fear of starvation. This reasoning was
often said to cause the most motivation for people to poach. People in countries where poaching is
most common, like Zimbabwe and Kanye, the economy is not doing well enough for people to
have enough money to support their families. By hunting for large game, poachers use the meat to
feed their families and allow them to keeping living. The desperation that people that poach must
have to do this is unimaginable, but just like the average person in any country they will do what
they have to to keep their family ahead.
Another reason why poachers do what they do is for the huge income that they gain from it.
Wanting to make a respectful income is not being greedy. Just like any other job, poachers do
what is necessary to make money. Poachers will sell parts of animals or animals all together. Most
poachers only receive 5 10% of the money that they make selling the animal. Based off of the job
that they do that is very little

Theme of Love in Much Ado and Twelfth Night
AS English Literature Unit 2 (Coursework)
EXPLORATIVE STUDY
Shakespeare s Twelfth Night is studied and his Much Ado About Nothing is used to explore the
theme of love. Performances are referred to.
Shakespeare s romantic comedies explore love, the divine passion , in all its moods and intensities.
Most characters in these two plays are in love, find love or seek it. Twelfth Night, reputedly the
most mature of Shakespeare s romantic comedies, weaves several such love stories into an
intricate collage to explore different types of love and its easy descent into pain or folly.
John Gross, in a 1991 review of Twelfth Night in the Sunday Telegraph, said Twelfth Night is about

The Viola Orsino and Benedick Beatrice loves are comparable, since both are constant, clear
eyed, and more based on a weathered and thorough understanding of each other than on mere
physical attraction theirs is the marriage of true minds . Even true love could be silly though, as
Kenneth Branagh, playing Benedick in his 1993 version, displays in his antics when bitten by the
lovebug; Newsweek, in a 1993 review of this adaptation, aptly judged it as portraying the absolute
absurdity and absurd absoluteness of love.
In comparison, though Claudio is genuinely attracted to Hero, his love seems fickle, jealous and
immature. Claudio, a sensible conventional wooer, first verifies Hero s social and financial
compatibility ( Hath Leonato any son...? ), but their relationship lacks trust and instinctive
understanding of each other. This is the reason Claudio believes Don John s intrigue, though
Hero, being sweet and submissive, remains true to him regardless of his treatment of her. Their
union therefore seems less sound than Beatrice and Benedick s and less acceptable to a modern
audience, which is probably why, in the 2005 Shakespeare Retold version of Much Ado, Hero
declines Claude s second offer.
Sebastian and Olivia s love too, though true, doesn t seem on par with the Viola Orsino and
Beatrice Benedick loves in terms of depth and appreciation of each other. Despite falling in love in

Analysis Of Gone With The Wind
Gone with the Wind is a 1939 movie directed by Victor Fleming and starring Clark Gable, Vivien
Leigh, and Olivia De Havilland. The film follows the life of Scarlett O Hara (Leigh), a young
Georgian woman, and her pursuits of romance and wealth during the Civil War and Reconstruction.
She faces the challenges of rebuilding her family s plantation and finding love while the man she
wants to pursue already married. This film falls into the genres of historical and romance. Historical
films are characterized simply by the fact that they are set in an earlier time period, usually one
that is far enough in the past that it can be distinguished from the time period the movie is
produced in. Most often, the era a historical film is set in is one that has a particular key event that
sets the time period. In the case of Gone with the Wind, the film is set around the Civil War, which
holds a key part in much of the plot and impacts the characters lives. Romance films have a plot that
revolves around the attraction between two main characters rather than having the romantic
relationships be a subplot. The typical romantic film tropes that can be found in Gone with the Wind
are Scarlett s unrequited love, bordering on obsession, for Ashley and her marriage to Rhett which
was portrayed as if they were both to find happiness with each other, but ultimately only found more
conflict.
The historical aspects of this film revolves not only around the Civil War itself, but also the

Before this period, Prabhupada distanced himself from traditional Hinduism and publicly stated that
his movement was not Hindu: I don t want a Hindu temple. Our constitution is different. We want
everyone . However, the movement was forced to abandon this conviction as anti cult sentiment
grew in the 1970s. By the middle of the decade, ISKCON fell under intense scrutiny by the media
and government officials. In order to protect the movement against accusations of being a
dangerous cult, the leadership asked ISKCON s Indian supporters to speak to the movement s
authenticity as a traditional Hindu religious group . This testimony was successful in alleviating
public fears and allowed ISKCON to escape government sanctions. Without the leadership and
support of Indian immigrants, ISKCON would have been far less prepared to survive the death of
its founder in 1977 and the subsequent financial and legal issues that plagued the movement in the
1980s.
III.Hippies and Immigrants: Comparative Perspectives
Two major groups have historically populated the membership of ISKCON: first, the rebellious
youth of the American counterculture, and second, the Indian immigrant community that exploded
in the wake of 1960s immigration reform. While Indian American devotees currently represent a
large proportion of ISKCON s following, their circumstances appear to differ dramatically from
those of the counterculture s hippies.

The Impact Of Race On The Gender Wage Gap And Women Overall
Equality of wages in America is of high concern and has been for a long period of time. On no
account of America s history, have women and men s wages ever been equal, rather they have
always had a significant gap between them. This has seen women as undervalued, causing a lot
of discrimination and hardship in the workplace for women. Especially for women of color the
wage gap is even larger. The pay gap in America affects women of all ages, races, and education

It refers to unequal treatment or perceptions of people based on gender. Many people will agree
because there s a lot going on about double standards. Since the 1920 s women have been put after
men. Now in modern times, the realization that men and women can produce the same results, have
the same education, and have the same capacity to accomplish the same overall tasks as men is
becoming more popular (Varnell)1. People are starting to realize that women can accomplish the
same things as men but they still don t get their recognition. Gender inequality seems to have more
problems in the workplace.
The gender pay gap has been an issue forever. Wage discrimination exists when workers are
equally qualified and perform the same work but one group of workers is paid more than
another. The American Association University of Women is releasing a new study that shows
when men and women attend the same kind of college, pick the same major and accept the same
kind of job, on average, the woman will still earn 82 cents to every dollar that a man earns
(Coleman)1. The pay gap is even greater for African American and Latina women. African
American women earning 64 cents and Latina women earning 56 cents for every dollar earned by
a white non Hispanic man. Of course it s a racial issue because the caucasians have always been the
superior race. African Americanand Hispanic women are significantly less likely to graduate from
high school or to get a bachelor s degree than white

My Life Changing Summer
Guilty Pleasure
Everybody has one; noun something such as a movie, television program, or piece of music, that
one enjoys despite the feeling that it is not generally held in high regard. ( Guilty Pleasure )
mine just happens to be exploring abandoned buildings. I am going to share a life changing
summer surrounded around one very unique building. I first discovered this hobby through a
person who would grow to become a very special person in my life. Now, my interest in urban
exploring did not start with my special place, I had to start on a beginner building and work my
way up. Over lunch with my friend one Saturday afternoon, he asked, have you ever climbed a
building before? to which I replied, no. with a slight question like ... Show more content on

It looked like something out of a B rated horror film where all of the characters make horribly
stupid mistakes leading to their death, more than likely caused by one of the crackheads in the
basement. We start to wind up the never ending stairwell, being as quiet as possible and trying to
stay aware of our surroundings. Occasionally he would point out a board on the landing space
and say, don t step on that. Meaning, there s a hole there and if you step on that board then you ll
fall through. It seemed as though he was speaking through personal experience. After what felt
like one hundred flights of stairs, we make it to the top of the silos, there was a slight breeze that
mingled with the warm mid summer air. I looked around in awe at the 360* view of Fort Worth. We
walked to the edge, sat down and dangled our legs over the edge, watching the skyline and talking
continuously for the rest of the afternoon. I knew, in that moment, that this would become a regular
thing. We made plans for the following Saturday. At 12:30 pm, my friend and I met at a popular
park on the outside of

Paid Employment in the Home Essay
Paid Employment in the Home
In her book The Second Shift, Arlie Hochschild describes how two job married couples in the
United States deal with the structural problem of the domestic work shift, i.e., that when both
members of a marriage work outside of the home, the domestic work becomes an added burden to
one or both of the members in addition to their outside jobs. Modern society has increased the
work load of the family, thereby increasing tension in marriages and taking away time for leisure
and recreation for both spouses. Hochschild calls this a stalled revolution (12) because women s
entrance into the full time workforce has yet to bring about the necessary structural change in
American family life. Assuming that this state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the 40 percent increase conveys the drastic growth of the home work population,
which seems to be generalizable to smaller sub groups of the home work population as defined
below. Because this movement back into the home is relatively new and because of its current
relatively small size, it is difficult for social scientists to get large enough samples to make
judgments about the characteristics of home work (Kraut 1989). Home work is seen in the
current literature in both highly optimistic and strongly negative terms, and the size of the work
at home population has been described as less than 2 percent of the U.S. labor force (Shamir
1992, p. 280) and nearly one quarter of the labor force (Farmanfarmaian 1989, p. 37). These
contradictions are due to both the size of this group of workers, as mentioned earlier, and a lack
of agreement between researchers on a definition of the home worker (for example, how many
hours of work at home per week, working out of the home vs. working at home, etc.).
Robert Kraut (1989) groups home workers into 3 categories: substitutors, the self employed, and
supplementers. Substitutors are those who work at home regularly, either full time or part time, as
a substitution for working in an office. They can be subcontractors or participants in a corporate
work at home

Silent Killer Research Paper
Stress, America s silent killers. Stress affects people of all ages, ethnicities and genders. Due to
its complex nature the concept of stress is constantly being studied. Extensive research has
discovered that stress can cause both psychological, and physiological issues. I m writing on the
concept of stress because it is something I have been able to identify with as a transitioning
college student. It is also something I know many people can identify with but don t necessarily
know how to deal with. Stress is a physical, mental, or emotional stimuli that causes bodily or
mental tension. People often associate stress as experiencing feelings of anxiety. People who go
through stress often report feeling overwhelmed and edgy. Stress can be... Show more content on

Entering college as a first year student I knew the work load would be tough but I wasn t aware
of how many different obstacles would be thrown my way. Every week I had an exam. Every
week I had a paper or a quiz or something that needed my immediate attention. My body was
stunned by the amount of stimuli it was being bombarded with. Saying I was overwhelmed is a
gross understatement. That didn t even begin to describe how I was feeling. I always felt like I
never had enough time, like I never had enough energy. I felt as if I was being pulled into
several different directions. My body was having a difficult time adjusting and adapting to the
changes of work in my new environment. When I got my exams and papers back it didn t help
that the grades that I received were significantly lower than what I was used to. It only added to
my stress. I started experiencing frequent migraine headache, I was more susceptible to sickness
and I had grown increasingly frustrated and irritable. Pain exhaustion, irritability, and anxiety is
what I associated with stress. I realized the correlation between my stress and terrible tensions
my body experienced. The more stressed I was the more tension I experienced. I found myself
crying very often and feeling like I didn t know what to do. When I was stressed it forced me to
find ways to de stress myself. I had to find something to release my stress so that I wasn t

The Abstract Latent Factor ( Lf ) Models
пЂ Abstract Latent factor (LF) models have proven to be accurate and efficient in extracting
hidden knowledge from high dimensional and sparse (HiDS) matrices. However, most
LF models fail to fulfill the non negativity constraints that reflect the non negative nature of
industrial data. Yet existing non negative LF models for HiDS matricessuffer from slow
convergence leading to considerable time cost. An alternating direction method based non negative

updates each LF non negatively based on the latest state of those trained before, thereby achieving

Suv And Crossover Vehicles Of Cars
SUV and Crossover vehicles are starting to take over the US car market. 2016 is the year of the
SUV and pickup truck. Each month the car sales share of the market slips a bit (NPR, 2016). This
means that sales of your average car are starting to slip. If you pay attention while driving down the
road you may notice this. I believe there are several reasons why this is starting to be the case.
SUVs and Crossover vehicles sit higher than an average commuter or luxury car. They tend to have
more space inside for passengers and cargo. They are starting to rival the fuel economy of cars.
Four wheel drive is a feature available to all of them. Now before I get started I said SUVs and
Crossovers. While these two types of vehicles are broadly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is especially true if a person has to commute long distances to work. A new study by
TrueCar.com finds tooling around in a small SUV is no longer that wasteful. The sales weighted
fuel economy average is only 2 miles per gallon apart (26.83 mpg SUV vs. 28.84 mpg sedan)
SUV owners typically will pay only another $3 more tankful to fill up their SUV compared to a
sedan. (USA Today, 2015). Granted those numbers are for a Crossover, However manufactures
like Nissan and RAM Trucks are starting to place small diesel engines in half ton trucks in order
to gain fuel economy without sacrificing payload capability. RAM is claiming to make up to 29
MPG with their small diesel (I was not able to find fuel economy numbers for the Nissan
engine). So it is likely fair to assume that it is only a matter of time before traditional SUVs get
engines of that type. Height is also an apparent factor in the purchase of these vehicles. People
reportedly like the fact that they sit higher than an average car. It gives people the feeling that they
have command of the road . As someone that drives a full size truck I can confirm that being able to
see over the car(s) in front of you does give you a certain commanding feeling. Driving a low
sitting sedan just feels like you are dragging your backside across the pavement. However I think
there may be more to the height factor.

Ethical Nature In Lord Of The Flies
The Ethical Nature of an Individual How ethical nature of the individual is explained throughout
the Lord of the Flies and as civilization and savagery unfolds there is a lot of conflict. The story
revolves around a group of stranded pre teen boys who find it difficult to keep order within
themselves. They struggle with a beast and fearof the unknown and the fear that they may never
be rescued. They struggle with finding a balance in powers and when it s time to hunt and be
serious which leads to them as a group falling apart. This book shows that even if you try to have
a stable government whether it works or not will depend of the character of the people in the
society. Goldings idea is that an evil and controlling side of humans is controlled by rules and laws
but can come out and take controlwhen there is none of that. Fear makes the boys paranoid and
makes them vulnerable and easier to control and that s exactly what Jack does throughout the
story. Golding writes He came disguised. He may come again even though we gave him the
head of our kill to eat. So, watch; and be careful. (Goldening 160). This quote shows Jack is
scaring his tribe into staying at castle rock and not feeling away from him by using the fear of
the beast . Ralph is the opposite of Jack he tries to set down rules and find a way to try to get
rescued, There s another thing. We can help them to find us. If a ship comes near the island they
may not notice us. So, we must make smoke on top

Willful Ignorance In Lewis Carroll s Alice Through The...
We judge ourselves by what we feel capable of doing, while others judge us by what we have
already done, expressed by the American writer and poet, Henry Longfellow. In a like manner,
Lewis Carroll an American writer published a work titled Alice Through the Looking Glass,
which addresses the different views of social behavior. This particular source suggests the overall
idea of perception through a fantasy land with Alice, the main character embarking on a new
journey. Alice is aware that she is in a new place, however, chooses to not make it her priority.
That idea of choosing to not make something a priority when you know that it s a significant issue

Rather, informing people of their options seems like the only viable solution to changing the
world through the lifestyle approach method. For instance, according to a recent survey of
American workers by Accounting Principals, Americans who regularly buy coffee throughout
the week spend on average, $1,092 on coffee annually (Muniz). The spending of a luxury like
coffee daily seems absurd when comparing the population of people in poverty in the United
States an estimated 43.1 million Americans lived in poverty according to the official measure
(What). To put in perspective that the 43.1 million people could have food, water, and shelter
the basic necessities needed to live. If we just skipped the daily coffee and perhaps drank water
instead. This type of action is described as volunteering and just one person s contribution saves
their whole country. Now picture, each person accomplishing the same thing, economical issues
would cease to exist since the temptation would cease to exist. Sounds simple, yet people who are
in higher ranks would have more to give up compared to a person who owns nothing of value. If
the model were applied drastic changes would come about over a long period of time. Ultimately,
the choice comes down to the people. The options are available, however, will someone choose to

Four River Valleys
Compare and Contrast the Four River Valleys For reasons unknown four regions between 5000
and 2000 B.C.E rapidly expanded their land and changed at a quicker pace than other regions.
They all had better agriculture, technology, development of state power and construction of cities.
These rivers were the Nile in Egypt, the valley of the Indus River, which is now Pakistan,
Mesopotamia between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, which is today known as Iraq and the
Yellow River in China. These four regions although grew faster they also shared similarities and
differences between ecology and their floodplains. As well as their society about settlement and

Men focused on agriculture and the women focused on the babies. As well all four river valleys
societies shared the environment of tyranny. To Egypt a king was a god and a Pharaoh
sometimes function as a god. They also organized labor to manage floods and used the Nile to
unify control. In Mesopotamia a king ruled but each single state was under a single ruler. There
was competition with other city states. However kings were not gods but the ruler s tombs after
death was covered in treasurers and jewels. In China kingship traditions resemble Egypt and the
Mesopotamia. The emperor takes on the role and just like Egypt uses their river as a highway to
unify and control. The Indus Valley is however different, it is very much a mystery. There is
uncertainness if there was ever a single ruler. But they still had roles of distributing food,
engineering and construction of complex urban system. They all had control but as a tyranny they
didn t have much control over their citizens lives. They all had laws or codes except The Indus
Valley because the place is unknown to having a ruler. But for the most part they were similar in
forming a settlement, a ruler and laws to maintain the regions civilization. Along with having
different regions with different ways of agriculture, settlement, laws and a different type of ruler
comes interaction. All these regions can learn from each other and swap cultures.

The Administrative Principles of Management
The administrative principles of management, created in the early 20th century by French
industrialist Henri Fayol, changed the way that many view management. Fayol s principles focused
mainly on the management teams of businesses and helped establish a top to bottom hierarchal
system to produce a more structured organization (Brunsson, 2008; Yoo, Lemak, Choi, 2008; Fells,
2000). This essay will focus on four of the 14 key principles of administrative theory unity of
command, subordination of individual interest for the interest of the organization, esprit de corp.

Although it has been adapted from Fayol s original idea, subordination of individual interest of
general interest, it is still present in Pumpkin Patch Ltd.
In a company that is downsizing, and even when it is not, Esprit de Corp is a principle that plays
a major factor in contemporary organizations today. Esprit de Corp is when a business creates, and
maintains, employee harmony, unity and morale (Fells, 2000; Rodrigues, 2001). This allows for a
happy working environment, and a happy employee means that they are more likely to achieve
productivity and efficiency outcomes. Pumpkin Patch Ltd. has adapted this to fit their family
environment that they feel the company has (Pumpkin Patch Limited, n.d.). The company believes
in a balance between work, leisure and flexibility as well as providing an in house kindergarten for
employees children (Pumpkin Patch Limited, n.d). This, although fairly minor, is a prime example
of how contemporary businesses have adapted one of the founding principles of management and
adapted it to fit their organization. As well as this Pumpkin Patch have organized their business into
teams such as the information technology (IT) team and the design team who are an integral part of
the organization in helping attain their goals and aims ( Brookes, et al., 2008). As Pumpkin Patch

Physical Exercise And Mental Exercise Essay
The articles by Erikson et al., Gatz, Korol et al., and Draganski et al. explore the concept of
increased physical activity and/or mental activity having effects on the cognitive function and
development or deterioration of the brain as we age. Although I agree that physical exercise is
critical in increasing cognitive function because of the health benefits it provides, as well as the
increased blood flow and circulation throughout the body, I ultimately believe that a healthy brainis
not achieved solely by physical exerciseor mental exercise, but both. I think there is a link between
physical and mental exercise, and that the combination of these two activities creates higher
cognitive functioning of the mindas well as the body. The mind and body come together and meet to
make an overall healthy individual.
The Erikson et al. article supports the idea that physical exercise helps the brain by improving
memory and the size of the hippocampus. Erikson and his colleagues suggested in their study that
physical exercise increases the retention of information and improves learning capabilities. The
way they measured this was by studying the increased or decreased size of the subject s
hippocampus and levels of BDNF. The control group in this experiment completed stretching/toning
exercises while the experimental group did aerobic exercise; the experimental group ended up
having a larger hippocampus volume than when starting out, as well as higher levels of BDNF; the

The Education System Of South Africa
1.Introduction
In a rainbow nation filled with diversity, the education system is the one system that faces the most
problems implementing a change. Education is one of the most important elements in structuring
the new generation, and with the new South Africa comes new curriculums. The lingering question
though is: Have we improved the education system of South Africa? Is the new curriculum in the
best interest of the country and its future or in the best interest of those people in power in our
country? What challenges do educators face bringing on this transformation curriculum as a tool to
form the minds of young people?
In this paper we will be looking at the education system of the past vs. the future critically. We will
also be analyzing these two aspects of education by means of the Critical Theory.
2.Critical theory
Critical Theory as a method of inquiry is widely used when questioning power structures. The
concern with changing a system, may it be economic, social or political. Higgs and Smith
(2015:67). According to Higgs and Smith (2015:67), critical theory originates in the 1930 s through
German philosophy. The first people to get involved were mostly concerned with the problems of
Nazism. Critical theory, from the start, was not just concerned with trying to resist the Nazis,
critical theory believes that all power structures are dangerous and destructive. Critical theory
believes that power structures not only drive our economic and social life but

  • 2. Commentary On Date Rape I found this play difficult to read. The overall tone of the piece was tinged with sadness. As I read, I would have to occasionally put it down to keep from crying. I m not exactly sure why this piece affected me so emotionally, but I feel that an emotional response to artwork is pretty significant. As I felt like crying, I was surprised by the section which talks about whiteness and a prescriptive notion that people shouldn t be emotional. The lady in blue states ...yes let s go on and be white...let s think our way out of feeling (shange 54). This was interesting commentary on the way in which dominant culture undervalues the body and emotions. Certainly all people have the capacity to be emotional and venerable, but these qualities are often... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was violent and in many ways another sort of bodily invasion. First the speaker must endure the brutality and humiliation of rape, and then she must endure the pain and danger of this medical procedure. This brought me back to Rich s Compulsory heterosexuality and her complication of consent and choice. I would very firmly argue that abortion should be an option for women, but I wonder how this procedure can be free from coercion within a violent patriarchal rape culture. I also found that the mixture of experiences this play portrays is very important. These women can share certain aspects of their experience, but they are far from the same. I found the lady in blue s story especially impactful. She is a clear embodiment of the way in which trauma and tragedy can make one feel that they must be cold and distant to survive and avoid further brutality. She argues that nice is such a rip off and I can certainly see her point (shange 53). The way in which that bitterness is used against each of the characters is also beautifully written and incredibly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Examples Of Medical Negligence Medical Negligence Negligence means the breach of a legal duty to care. In wider sense it means carelessness in a matter in which law mandates carefulness. Negligence is a predominant theory of liability concerning allegations of medical malpractice. Medical malpractice occurs when a health care provider deviates from the recognized standard of care in the treatment of a patient. The standard of care is defined as what a reasonably prudent medical provider would or would not have done under the same or similar circumstances. Persons who offer medical advice and treatment implicitly state that they have the skill to decide whether to take a case, to decide the treatment, and to administer that treatment. This is know as implied undertaking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Medical mistakes in the diagnosis and treatment of hospital patients are unfortunately among the most common cases of hospital malpractice seen by malpractice lawyers. Misdiagnosis of the patient s condition, improperly interpreted diagnostic tests, negligently performed surgeries and medication errors are all examples of medical negligence and can all have devastating effects on patients already admitted to a hospital with an illness or injury. This can be considered hospital malpractice. Understaffing of hospitals and overworking of hospital employees contributes to the dangers of a hospital visit. Long delays in emergency rooms, as well as waiting for radiology tests and delays in performing surgery can all permit a patient s condition to worsen. In addition, patients frequently arrive at the hospital with one type of illness, and sustain an injury or infection in the hospital that they never had before. Often these patients are in much worse physical condition leaving the hospital than when they went in. Sometimes patients injured by a hospital in the case of medical negligence require extensive treatments or multiple surgeries to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Importance Of Foreign Language In Schools In the nineteenth century, the United States set the precedence for racism. While the problems may appear consummated, the people of today know that is not totally the case. With the amount of cultural presence continuously growing, the ubiquity of foreign language should be taken more seriously. One reason to learn them [foreign languages] is because they are tickets to being able to participate in the culture of the people who speak them, just by virtue of the fact that it is their code, begins McWhorter of TED (McWhorter, 2016). Consequently, schools should offer foreign languageclasses sooner in a child s life than freshman year of high school because this type of learning introduces them to cultural differences, increases their learning abilities and helps them understand learning styles of varying levels. Throughout the years, U.S. citizens have viewed the United States as the dominant country. When discussing the topic of languages, many are quick to reply with English, and some even fight for countless hours over the legality of English becoming the universal language. However, while a large amount of the people in the United States speak American English, the government cannot calibrate the official language of the United States today (Constitution, 2017). Many people who speak a second language also learn English, so they can cater to the needs of those in America. Now, Mandarin Chinese is spoken by more people, but more Chinese people are learning English ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Old Chief Mshlanga Character Analysis For some, coming of age is a time of obstacles and success in a young youth s life. It involves a number of trials that is needed to overcome to become mature. Although, obstacles are not the only features that a young adolescents will encounter. The journey will happen beginning with successes and triumphs that will come to the shaping of who they are to become. One can simply presume that the occurrence taking place in the world would have a strong impact on how an adolescent comes of age. The tale Old Chief Mshlanga focuses on the main character, the protagonist known as she or little Nkosikaas her encounter with an African chieftain that causes her to see the differences between her people and the natives of the land they reside. The author, Doris Lessing, uses the protagonist to show radically changing attitudes towards the Old Chief Mshlanga. At the age of fourteen, the nameless protagonist meets Old Chief Mshlanga on a walk with her dogs, a native tribal leader who used to own the whole area. The chief s pride and respect make the girl gingerly change her opinion of natives and reconsider her prejudiced vision and idea. As a result, she begins to be more pleasant towards the natives she encounters. The girl s inner characterization resembles a coming of age character. She develops because of the action and her traits as a child are presented in contrast with her traits as a teenager. • 8. The Pros And Cons Of Eugenics Eugenics is the science of improving the qualities of the human species or a human population by controlled breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristic traits and decrease the occurrence of undesirable characteristic traits or genetical defects (Webster, 1828.) Eugenic sterilizationrefers to the involuntary sterilizationof certain categories of individuals without their need for consent by those subjected to the procedure (Pozgar, 2012, Pg. 411.) Individuals classified as mentally deficient, feeble minded, epileptic, promiscuous, sexual deviants, or persons classified as habitual criminals were mainly targeted (Pozgar, 2012, Pg. 411.) Eugenicists argued degenerate traits tainted society through the reproduction of the lowest class and sterilization was to keep the handicapped from perpetuating themselves (Kaelber, 2014.) In addition, eugenicists also argued that feeble minded individuals were believed to be financial burdens to society by overcrowding prisons, hospitals and living off welfare (Kaelber, 2014.) Sterilization was seen as a way to prevent the spending of tax dollars on the feeble minded (Kaelber, 2014.) These arguments allowed Eugenicsto become an acceptable practice. Advocates believed that getting rid of the feeble minded and mentally deficient would decrease the undesirable characteristic traits within the human gene pool and ultimately improve the human population. The preference shareholders enjoy a preferential position over equity shareholders in two ways: (i) receiving a fixed rate of dividend, out of the net profits of the company, before any dividend is declared for equity shareholders; and (ii) receiving their capital after the claims of the company s creditors have been settled, at the time of liquidation. In other words, as compared to the equity shareholders, the preference shareholders have a preferential claim over dividend and repayment of capital. As Freud argues that all humans have a dark side to them, we tend to hide this side of us as we get older. In the Tempest, Caliban could represent this uncontrolled side of human nature. Caliban is seen to be the superego which is can be seen to be evident when he does not wish to receive Prospero s physical punishments. Despite his punishments, his desires fail to remain within him. Caliban is also missing his mother in this play which leads him to feel inadequacy. Prospero is one of the only obstacles between him and Miranda. Prospero s desire for power and control over the characters in the play, shows Freud s theory coming into play, if one craves power, it is possibly because one has lacked in its childhood. This play has symbols that represent the imagery in it. The symbol water is often shown through this play either by saying or showing it. The image of water is often shown to be deadly. As Ferdinand lost his father at sea, he deems to think that his father drowned as they were involved in a shipwreck. • 20. History Of The Atomic Model Paper History of the Atomic Model Paper Philip Wang Over the course of the last 5000 years, mankind s knowledge has been constantly advancing. Chemistry, a branch of science, has experienced a tremendous leap and expansions since ancient Greek civilization. One of the major breakthroughs in the advancement in Chemistry was the creation of the Atomic theory, which laid a foundation for the modern day Chemistry and future of science. The Atomic theory introduced the idea of atoms, which are defined as the discrete units of matter. There are five key scientists that significantly contributed to the Atomic model over a span of thousands of years. They are: Democritus, John Dalton, J.J. Thompson, Ernest Rutherford, and Niels Bohr. Democritus, an Ancient Greek philosopher, is widely considered to be the founding father of the Atomic Theory. Democritus proposed that matter is composed of atoms, which move through empty space. He also proposed that atoms are solid, homogeneous, indestructible, and indivisible, and that different types of atoms have different kinds of sizes and shapes, which determine the properties of matter. Democritus and other Greek philosophers Leucippus and Epicurus, were among the first to propose the size, shape, and connectivity of atoms. Democritus theorized that iron atoms are solid with hooks (which locked them in place with each other, therefore creating a solid), water atoms are smooth and slippery, (which caused them to be in a liquid state), ... Max Weber And His Contributions Phala Monte Ms. Berner SYG 2000 01Z 7 June 2015 Max Weber and His Contributions Throughout the early 1900s, Max Weber was considered as one of the three founders of sociology, because he had acquired many ideas that profoundly influenced social theory and social research. For sociology as a whole, Weber s study of sociology is theoretical historical, because he had the idea of rationalization based on his observations from the Protestant Work Ethic and other societies to analyze modern societies. This led to the development of one of the main theoretical perspectives, known as interactionism; Weber had supported the view of symbolic interactionism, because his earlier ideas mainly focused on the individual s viewpoint and experience and how that person would relate to society. Weber had changed the way sociologists view individuals within this theoretical perspective, based on his contributing ideas. To start with early life, Karl Emil Maximilian Weber was born in 1864, in Erfurt, Province of Saxony, Prussia. (Winch 735). His mother, Helene Fallenstein, was part of humanitarian and religious convictions, and his father, Max WeberSr., was a National Liberal parliamentary deputy. His wife Marianne Schnitger was a feminist activist. While Weber never paid attention in school, he read Goethe, which might have had influenced his theorist ideas and methodology (Winch 735). • 22. The Boston Massacre The Boston Massacre The tension between the colonies and Britain was nothing new. There were several occasions where the colonies became greatly infuriated with the unpleasant treatment they were receiving. Prior to the year 1770, much of the outcry came from the acts passed by the British government, such as the Stamp Act, Quartering Act, and Declaratory Act ( A Timeline of the American Revolution). Even though the colonists were infuriated, it would take something more to push them over the edge. This something would turn out to be what is now called the Boston Massacre. Although the Boston Massacre won t go down as the deadliest massacre in American history, it will go down as one of the most pivotal turning points due to the colonists depiction of the event. Several things happened leading up to the massacre itself, which are important to note. The colonists were becoming increasingly frustrated with Britain, which led to political unrest. To counteract this unrest, British troops were sent to Boston, where they arrived on October 1, 1968. Originally, there wasn t an open resistance to the presence of the troops. Over time, things would change, which can be derived from the events of March 5, 1770. There were two sides: the mob of colonists and the the British soldiers. • 26. Analysis Of George Orwell s The Road In The Road to Wigan Pier (1937), Orwell tries out his own understanding of socialism, with striking phrasing: We ve got to fight for justice and liberty. And socialism does mean justice and liberty, when the nonsense is stripped off it. He further declares that the real socialist is one who wishes not merely conceives it as desirable but actively wishes to see tyranny overthrown (Orwell, The Road 76). One senses here that the point is not the ultimate triumph of a particular doctrine or party, but the triumph of human dignity. This triumph can be achieved by war and revolution. Orwell wrote to Cyril Connolly, telling him: I have seen wonderful things and at last really believe in Socialism, which I never did before (Orwell, Collected Essays 269). Although it was clear that he was at least intellectually committed to socialism, it was Spain that gave his socialism an emotional Bedrock and dictated the course his socialism would take. In his preface to the Ukrainian edition of Animal Farm he wrote: Nothing has contributed so much to the corruption of the original idea of Socialism as the belief that Russia is a Socialist country and that every act of its rulers must be excused, if not imitated. • 35. Poaching And Robin Hood INTRODUCTION We, the people of the world, do many things for the sake of our survival. Things that we are very proud of and things that we are not. People have needs and they do or invent things based off of their needs. How far they are willing to go is the million dollar question. Poaching has been going on since the world began, but it did not become a problem and become illegal until the Late Middle Ages. In the times where the lower class were peasants and the upper class had control of pretty much everything. Robin Hood was of the first well known poachers during this time period. His reasoning, like the reasoning like many other that poach, Hood was in desperate need of money and food for his family. With the help of his crew, Hood... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although, in reality the number of people that actually know why poaching is done is very low. Poaching, by definition, is the illegal act of killing, capturing, or removing mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, insects, or plants from their natural habitats. (Greene, 1994, p.11). Yes. poaching is illegal but there is a reason to why people feel the need to do these types of things. One of the first reasons to why started poaching in the beginning was the fear of starvation. This reasoning was often said to cause the most motivation for people to poach. People in countries where poaching is most common, like Zimbabwe and Kanye, the economy is not doing well enough for people to have enough money to support their families. By hunting for large game, poachers use the meat to feed their families and allow them to keeping living. The desperation that people that poach must have to do this is unimaginable, but just like the average person in any country they will do what they have to to keep their family ahead. Another reason why poachers do what they do is for the huge income that they gain from it. Wanting to make a respectful income is not being greedy. Just like any other job, poachers do what is necessary to make money. Poachers will sell parts of animals or animals all together. Most poachers only receive 5 10% of the money that they make selling the animal. Based off of the job that they do that is very little ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theme of Love in Much Ado and Twelfth Night AS English Literature Unit 2 (Coursework) EXPLORATIVE STUDY Shakespeare s Twelfth Night is studied and his Much Ado About Nothing is used to explore the theme of love. Performances are referred to. Shakespeare s romantic comedies explore love, the divine passion , in all its moods and intensities. Most characters in these two plays are in love, find love or seek it. Twelfth Night, reputedly the most mature of Shakespeare s romantic comedies, weaves several such love stories into an intricate collage to explore different types of love and its easy descent into pain or folly. The Viola Orsino and Benedick Beatrice loves are comparable, since both are constant, clear eyed, and more based on a weathered and thorough understanding of each other than on mere physical attraction theirs is the marriage of true minds . Even true love could be silly though, as Kenneth Branagh, playing Benedick in his 1993 version, displays in his antics when bitten by the lovebug; Newsweek, in a 1993 review of this adaptation, aptly judged it as portraying the absolute absurdity and absurd absoluteness of love. In comparison, though Claudio is genuinely attracted to Hero, his love seems fickle, jealous and immature. Claudio, a sensible conventional wooer, first verifies Hero s social and financial compatibility ( Hath Leonato any son...? ), but their relationship lacks trust and instinctive understanding of each other. This is the reason Claudio believes Don John s intrigue, though Hero, being sweet and submissive, remains true to him regardless of his treatment of her. Their union therefore seems less sound than Beatrice and Benedick s and less acceptable to a modern audience, which is probably why, in the 2005 Shakespeare Retold version of Much Ado, Hero declines Claude s second offer. • 38. Analysis Of Gone With The Wind Gone with the Wind is a 1939 movie directed by Victor Fleming and starring Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, and Olivia De Havilland. The film follows the life of Scarlett O Hara (Leigh), a young Georgian woman, and her pursuits of romance and wealth during the Civil War and Reconstruction. She faces the challenges of rebuilding her family s plantation and finding love while the man she wants to pursue already married. This film falls into the genres of historical and romance. Historical films are characterized simply by the fact that they are set in an earlier time period, usually one that is far enough in the past that it can be distinguished from the time period the movie is produced in. Most often, the era a historical film is set in is one that has a particular key event that sets the time period. In the case of Gone with the Wind, the film is set around the Civil War, which holds a key part in much of the plot and impacts the characters lives. Romance films have a plot that revolves around the attraction between two main characters rather than having the romantic relationships be a subplot. The typical romantic film tropes that can be found in Gone with the Wind are Scarlett s unrequited love, bordering on obsession, for Ashley and her marriage to Rhett which was portrayed as if they were both to find happiness with each other, but ultimately only found more conflict. The historical aspects of this film revolves not only around the Civil War itself, but also the idealized ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By the middle of the decade, ISKCON fell under intense scrutiny by the media and government officials. In order to protect the movement against accusations of being a dangerous cult, the leadership asked ISKCON s Indian supporters to speak to the movement s authenticity as a traditional Hindu religious group . Modern society has increased the work load of the family, thereby increasing tension in marriages and taking away time for leisure and recreation for both spouses. However, the 40 percent increase conveys the drastic growth of the home work population, which seems to be generalizable to smaller sub groups of the home work population as defined below. Because this movement back into the home is relatively new and because of its current relatively small size, it is difficult for social scientists to get large enough samples to make judgments about the characteristics of home work (Kraut 1989). Home work is seen in the current literature in both highly optimistic and strongly negative terms, and the size of the work at home population has been described as less than 2 percent of the U.S. labor force (Shamir 1992, p. 280) and nearly one quarter of the labor force (Farmanfarmaian 1989, p. 37). These contradictions are due to both the size of this group of workers, as mentioned earlier, and a lack of agreement between researchers on a definition of the home worker (for example, how many hours of work at home per week, working out of the home vs. working at home, etc.). Robert Kraut (1989) groups home workers into 3 categories: substitutors, the self employed, and supplementers. Substitutors are those who work at home regularly, either full time or part time, as a substitution for working in an office. (USA Today, 2015). Granted those numbers are for a Crossover, However manufactures like Nissan and RAM Trucks are starting to place small diesel engines in half ton trucks in order to gain fuel economy without sacrificing payload capability. RAM is claiming to make up to 29 MPG with their small diesel (I was not able to find fuel economy numbers for the Nissan engine). • 54. The Administrative Principles of Management The administrative principles of management, created in the early 20th century by French industrialist Henri Fayol, changed the way that many view management. Fayol s principles focused mainly on the management teams of businesses and helped establish a top to bottom hierarchal system to produce a more structured organization (Brunsson, 2008; Yoo, Lemak, Choi, 2008; Fells, 2000). This essay will focus on four of the 14 key principles of administrative theory unity of command, subordination of individual interest for the interest of the organization, esprit de corp. and remuneration and analyze how they have been applied in a leading New Zealand company, Pumpkin Patch Limited (Ltd.) (Samson Daft, 2009, p.64; Wren, Bedian, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although it has been adapted from Fayol s original idea, subordination of individual interest of general interest, it is still present in Pumpkin Patch Ltd. In a company that is downsizing, and even when it is not, Esprit de Corp is a principle that plays a major factor in contemporary organizations today. Esprit de Corp is when a business creates, and maintains, employee harmony, unity and morale (Fells, 2000; Rodrigues, 2001). This allows for a happy working environment, and a happy employee means that they are more likely to achieve productivity and efficiency outcomes. • 55. Physical Exercise And Mental Exercise Essay The articles by Erikson et al., Gatz, Korol et al., and Draganski et al. explore the concept of increased physical activity and/or mental activity having effects on the cognitive function and development or deterioration of the brain as we age. Although I agree that physical exercise is critical in increasing cognitive function because of the health benefits it provides, as well as the increased blood flow and circulation throughout the body, I ultimately believe that a healthy brainis not achieved solely by physical exerciseor mental exercise, but both. I think there is a link between physical and mental exercise, and that the combination of these two activities creates higher cognitive functioning of the mindas well as the body. The mind and body come together and meet to make an overall healthy individual. The Erikson et al. article supports the idea that physical exercise helps the brain by improving memory and the size of the hippocampus. Erikson and his colleagues suggested in their study that physical exercise increases the retention of information and improves learning capabilities. The way they measured this was by studying the increased or decreased size of the subject s hippocampus and levels of BDNF. The control group in this experiment completed stretching/toning exercises while the experimental group did aerobic exercise; the experimental group ended up having a larger hippocampus volume than when starting out, as well as higher levels of BDNF; the ... The concern with changing a system, may it be economic, social or political. Higgs and Smith (2015:67). Critical theory, from the start, was not just concerned with trying to resist the Nazis, critical theory believes that all power structures are dangerous and destructive.
