Walt Disney Company And Its International Theme Parks
Before discussing the cultural missteps taken by the Walt Disney Company (TWDC) at their
international theme parks, a quick overview of the company and its international theme parks will
be given. The Walt Disney Company is an entertainment conglomerate with business divisions in
movies, television, radio, theater, publishing, and theme parks. Since the focus of this paper is
international theme parks, only a brief history of the American theme parks will be discussed. Walt
Disneythought of the idea of the theme park one day when he took his daughters to a local park
and watched them as they rode the merry go round (Disney, 2009). Disney wanted a place where
children and their parents could have fun and enjoy the rides together (Disney,... Show more content

Tokyo Disneyland
Tokyo Disneyland (TDL) was the Walt Disney Company s first attempt at planning and
developing an international theme park. In the 1970 s after Walt Disney s death, the Walt
Disney Company was not doing well financially when the Oriental Land Company (OLC)
approached the company about opening a theme park in Tokyo. The Oriental Land Company,
according to Raz (1999), author of Riding the Black Ship: Japan and Tokyo Disneyland, is a
partnership between two large firms in Japan, the Mitsui Real Estate Development and Keisei
Electric Railway (p.4). The Walt Disney Company was hesitant to open a new theme park in its
current financial state, but the OLC offered them a deal that was hard to resist. The Oriental
Land Company would own and operate the Tokyo Disneyland while the Walt Disney Company
would receive 10 percent of admissions fees and 5 percent of the revenues from food and
souvenir sales (Raz, 1999, p. 27). The Walt Disney Company also received licensing fees up to
20 million dollars for their characters, attractions, and more, as well as control over the design of
the park and control of park operations (Raz, 1999, p. 27; Eisner Schwartz, 1998, p.263). Although
the deal seemed alluring at the time, the Walt Disney Company would soon come to regret the deal
they made with the Oriental Land Company.
Tokyo Disneyland opened on April 15th, 1983 and is described as a carbon copy of its American
counterparts

The Experiences Of Denver, Florence, And The Survivors
The experiences of Denver, Florence, and the survivors of the atomic bomb represent one way
invaders intrude on homes and capture the occupant s attention, which freezes time. This claim is
further strengthened by the characters in these books that exist outside of I24, a troubled
conscience, and Hiroshima. What the authors demonstrate through these characters is the absence
of time freezing. Even though, these characters interact with the invader. Moreover, the authors
reveal how character s attachment to the domestic space exacerbates the paralysis of time. In
Beloved, time does not freeze for Stamp Paid because he is a derelict. Contrary to Sethe and
Denver who have a myriad of memories tied to I24, Stamp Paid doesn t have ties... Show more

Stamp Paid doesn t have a home, and therefore he isn t obligated to remain with the invader.
Stamp Paid can leave, and he does just that. The lack of a domestic sphere weakens the
preoccupation with an invader because the individual can simply leave the place of intrusion.
While Stamp Paid is free from Beloved and I24, Elisha is free from memories that trouble his
conscience. Baldwin displays a character who isn t affected by invaders and the freezing of
time, through John s role model, Elisha. Understand that Elisha is saved, and this holy revival
exonerates him from his past. Elisha demonstrates no recognition of his dabble with sin that
transpires with Ella Mae. John comments on this: He stared in a dull paralysis of terror at the
body of Elisha. He saw him standing had Elisha forgotten? beside Ella Mae before the altar
while Father James rebuked him for the evil that lived in the flesh (12). Whereas memories
invade Florence s mind and directs the narrative into an explanation of her past, there is no
chapter of Go Tell It titled, Elisha s Prayer. Baldwin dedicates voyages into the past solely on
characters who have troubled consciences. Elisha is saved: You got to remember, Elisha said,
turning now to look at him, that you think about it with a carnal mind. You still got Adam s mind,
boy, and you keep thinking about your friend, you want to do what they do, and you want to go to
the movies, and I bet you think

Sub Saharan Patriarchy Essay
According to books like the Bible women and even in some societies today, women are normally
seen as inferior to men and quite weak to handle rigorous tasks like governance among others.
Hence the ratio of Sub Saharan male and female representation and participation in decision making
structures are greatly imbalanced, men are often favored in these structures. This phenomenon is
not unique to Sub Saharan African countries but also occurs in first world countries where women
are less represented in parliament. What is patriarchy? a system of social structures and practices in
which men dominate, oppress and exploit women (Walby,1990). (Kamla,1993) agrees with Walby s
assertion; patriarchy is constructed on a system of power relations which are hierarchical and
unequal where men control women s production, reproduction, and sexuality. It imposes
masculinity and femininity character stereotypes in a society which strengthen the iniquitous
power relations between men and women. (Ashenafi, 2009) asserts that the patriarchal system
reinforces the inequality in Sub Saharan governance; African institutions, culture as well as
economic and social factors are deeply rooted in patriarchy which limits women s freedom to govern

Elements Of Horror Stories
Hattie Sparks
Sharon A. Russell explains to readers how to decipher horror stories by saying, Some students
think that the best way to examine it is to deal with the way horror fiction is organized or
structured. Examining the organization of a horror story shows that it shared certain traits with
other types of fiction. . She says this in her article What is a Horror Story . Horror fiction needs to
be in a certain order, structured, and have specific horror traits. Some essential traits to horror
she later talks about, are supernatural elements, eerie settings, and suspense. When these
elements interact horror is created. The Monkey s Paw by W.W. Jacobs is a horror story
because, of the supernatural paw, the setting, and suspense of the story. One important element
of horror is a supernatural trait, which The Monkey s Paw does indeed have. The main
supernatural trait would be the paw itself. The history of the paw is stated, by Sergeant Major
Morris, to have had a spell placed on it by a fakir. Sergeant Morris, also told the readers how all
the previous six wishes were answered. Multiple wishes answered using the same process, could
not be coincidence. Another reason that this story fits into the supernatural trait is how Mr. White
describes his experience using the paw. He states, it twisted in my hand like a snake (pg 110). Only
something supernatural would do this. Lastly, it is not simply a coincidence that when Mr. White
wishes for 200 pounds, that it

Investing Stocks and Bonds
Investing in Stocks and Bonds Stocks and Bonds are different in many ways. A stock is a
portion or share of the ownership of a corporation. A share will give the owner of the stock the
company s profits or loses over time. The good thing about stocks is they can be sold at almost
any time as long as there is someone willing to buy. A bond, on the other hand, is a fixed interest
financial asset issued by governments, companies, banks, and other large entities. Bonds also are
called funds. Bonds pay the owner a fixed amount a specific date, or on specified dates
depending on the type of bond. If the bond is a discount bond, then there is one pay date at the
end. If the bond is a coupon bond, then it pays a fixed amount over a... Show more content on

The Roles And Responsibilities Of A Nurse
1.Discuss the roles and responsibilities of the nurse in the acute care setting.
I.Urgency of acute care varies depending on the situation but can range to anything from
emergency surgeries, to injuries, chronic illnesses, and also for the recovery of those procedures.
Majority of the patients in acute care settings are critically ill. Nursing responsibilities in acute
care settings are vital to patient s recovery due to the front line position nurses play as well as the
wide variety of tasks carried out. Assessments are made during every encounter the nurse has with
the patient along with monitoring the patient s progress. Nurses are responsible for recognizing
symptoms the patient may be experiencing due to illness or injury and whether they fall in the
spectrum of normal reactions. Vital signs are measured routinely and can be indicators of the
patient s current status. When vitals are questioned diagnostic tests can be arranged to further
assess possible comorbidities the patient may have. Care plans are made to plan interventions the
health care team can take to help patients through challenges they face, both physical and mental.
Nurses administer medications as well as first aid as needed. They are responsible for maintaining
special equipment patients may require including monitors and ventilators are well.

Ethical Queries. Through those two exercises I was able to view other people s opinions on
some very important issues. It has definitely helped me to see why our society is struggling with
ethical issues. It also makes me ask how did we let it get this far? I think through this class I
have found the answer. I believe it is because we, Pakistanis, have no absolute authority. That is
why some of my fellow students answered some of the questions that pertained to whether a
certain issue is right or wrong as it would depend on the situation or they would never want to be
known as the whistle blower. I don t believe that there are any gray areas. Stealing is wrong no
matter the situation or what the person has stolen. Society today tells us that there are these gray
areas, but that is only used to make excuses for our wrongs because let s face it no one wants to be

A rich tradition from Socrates, Rousseau, Dewey, Piaget and onwards has emphasised the role of
teacher as promoter of questions and exchange within the context of a learning relationship....
Student, staff, and learner engagement is promoted not by traditional leader characteristics
(rational, analytic, dispassionate) but rather by leaders with emotional intelligence, a coaching
orientation, authenticity and humility.... Making such a personal connection can simply involve
talking to students on a more informal level and engaging with them as people rather than
exclusively as students. It also involves raising our awareness and developing some understanding
about the lives of students. Students often lead complex lives and staff need to understand that
wider context: perhaps adjusting to living on their own for the first time, feeling lonely, making

Coping Mechanisms In Drinking Habits By Banana Yoshimoto
Coping mechanisms vary greatly from person to person and are a defining factor in one s life. For
this reason, Banana Yoshimoto provides the theme that it is necessary to find positive coping
mechanisms in every situation to limit the despair one faces; she does this through her
juxtaposition of Yuichi and Mikage and the use of the scene where the two eat dinner together after
Erikos death. Yoshimoto does this through her use of Yuichi and his drinking habits on pages sixty
through sixty three. Yoshimoto opens the scene with Yuichi returning from the store where he
bought food to make dinner with Mikage. When Yuichi returns to the apartment he is carrying a bag

This is important because it shows what one should do when put into an unfortunate circumstance.
It also shows that Yoshimoto wants people to behave like this despite it being out of the cultural
norm. Yoshimoto also shows how important it is to talk to people after the death of a loved one as
Mikage immediately accepts assistance from the Tenobis. Yuichi, on the other hand, refuses to call

My Thoughts on Marijuana Essay
My Thoughts on Marijuana
What Is Marijuana, a drug obtained from dried and crumpled parts of the ubiquitous hemp plant
Cannabis sativa (or Cannabis indica). Smoked by rolling in tobacco paper or placing in a pipe. An
estimated 200,000,000 persons for pleasure, an escape from reality, or relaxation, also otherwise

Marijuana is known by a variety of names such as kif in Morocco, dagga in South Africa, and
bhang in India. Common in the United States, marijuana is called pot, grass, weed, Mary Jane,

The available data suggested, this is not so, Marijuana occasionally produces acute panic
reactions or even transient psychoses. Furthermore, a person driving under the influence of
marijuana is a danger to themselves and others. If smoked heavily and a great deal of consistency,
its use has been clearly associated with mental breakdown. In many persons who smoke
chronically, the drug reinforces passivity and reduces goal directed, constructive activity. The
chronic use of pure resin (hashish) has been associated both with mental deterioration and
criminality. One of the major complications of marijuana use is the tendency on the part of some
users to progress to more dangerous drugs. Users in economically deprived areas usually go on to
heroin, whereas more affluent individuals tend to move from marijuana to more potent
hallucinogens such as LSD. There is no established medical use for marijuana or any other cannabis
preparation.
In the United States, its use is a crime and the laws governing marijuana are similar to those
regulating heroin. Many authorities now urge that the laws be modified to mitigate the penalties
relating to conviction on marijuana possession charges. The Case For Legalizing Marijuana Use

Whenever his army marched into a land, it was not just an army of warriors; he brought an
entourage of scholars to spread the culture as well. Interspersed within the fighting battalions
were architects, philosophers, scribes, musicians, and educators whose whole duty was to
spread the culture to those who were conquered. Some of these strategies were the establishment
of Greek cities, Greek schools (Gymnasia), and commanding the Greek language as the official
language for government and the de facto language for commerce. Many people began to give
their children Greek names, and local styles of art and architecture began to imitate Greek
models. Even some of the Jewish High Priests took Greek names. All of this was not a good turn
of events for Israel since the Greek culture was very ungodly and humanistic. Despite the bright

The Effective Use of Dramatic Devices in Miller s The...
The Crucible by Arthur Miller is a famous play which was written in the early 1950 s. The
Crucible is a play based upon the events in 1692, which led to the Salem Witch Trials , a series
of hearings before local magistrates to prosecute over 150 people accused of witchcraft. This
was due to the hysteria caused by a group of girls accusing innocent people of witch craft. The
play was set in Salem, Massachusetts between February 1692 and May 1693. Salem was a very
isolated and puritanical community, so their biggest fear was the devil and witchcraft. A person
being accused of witchcraft was the worst thing possible in this society. The definition of crucible

One of the play writers that was blamed was Arthur Miller himself, and he had to suffer the
consequence of prison for one year as there were no free trials. After Miller s time in prison, he
wrote the Crucible, an allegorical play in which Miller linked the situation of America going
hunting Communists to the Witch Hunts in Salem. Throughout the play Miller creates tension
between the characters, however this tension is mainly shown in Act Two. Although the main
theme of the Crucible is witch craft, this act concentrates mainly on the relationship of John and
Elizabeth Proctor. Miller uses a variety of dramatic devices such as, stage directions, long
pauses and silences, entrances of other characters (interruptions), use of contrast, length of
sentences and punctuation to express mood and feeling, use of figurative language and
repetition and how other characters react to a particular problem. Prior to this act the girls have
named the witches and have accused innocent people, for example I saw Goody Hawkins with
the devil... This scene ends with everybody screaming and being hysterical and as soon as act
two starts, there is silence. This shows a powerful use of contrast between the acts through the
stage directions. This also affects the audience because as the curtain is falling they are left at the
edge of their seats and as soon as it drops they are left hanging as they want to know what has
happened to the girls. Arthur Miller uses this device

Statement of Purpose for Software Skills
We, Humans are amazing creatures with outstanding ability to dream. Bringing life into that
dream is an art which requires a unique tool. For me, the tool for adding life to my imaginations

portray my imaginations to the canvas of reality. I always felt that the Software skill is the magic
wand from fairy tales that could create wonders from imagination.
I am, an undergraduate in Computer Science, from a village in Kerala, India. My story of
affection to work with computer and software started from my childhood. The complexities and
the wonders inside a computer box attracted me towards it. There is a specific reason to say so.
When I kid, I participated in a drawing competition sponsored by a detergent company to do a

I couldn t imagine myself working with something else. I painted a young guy(myself) with blue

American Born Chinese Stereotypes Analysis
American Born Chinese Stereotype Essay
The most common stereotypes today are dumb blonde, geek, nerd, smart asian, fat american,
terrorist. These insults are used everyday, as it is a way for society to label people for being
different from everyone else. Stereotypes are used in American Born Chinese to show how
stereotypes are used to negatively group people, to depict how others bully those who are different,
and are used to show how stereotypes affect those they are directed towards and those around them
in a negative way.
The first way stereotypes are used is to show negative stereotypes from the looks from other
people. One example of this happening is on page 31. [Timmy ] My momma says Chinese people

One example Yang gave was when Jin was eating his lunch and a group of boys went over to
him. They teased him about eating dogs (Yang 32 33). This only because Timmy and the teacher
assumed the worst of Jin s culture and associated him with it. These kids were bullying Jin
because he was different. This happens everywhere from the workplace to the classroom and
some people think that it is true so it is okay. In order to make them look and feel superior, the
kids bullied Jin and made him feel left out and not worth anything. This also happens today, as
people are constantly putting down others at work or in school due to their race, religion, or just by
the way they look. Another example of stereotypes being used to show superiority is when Peter
Grabinsky taking Jin s sandwich and promising to be his friend if he continued to give his lunch
to him (Peter) (Yang 34). Peter then treats Jin as if he is a dog s favorite toy that will soon be
forgotten and thrown away. This does happen, as Peter leaves to live with his father and leaves
Jin. This example shows how Peter took advantage of the other children s disliking towards Jin
due to what he looked like by taking his lunch and abusing him. Both of these show how students
of mayflower elementary treat Jin as if he is useless and bully him in order to make them feel
special. The kids saw that Jin was different and their brains seemed to associate him with eating
dogs and coming from china. To sum it up, the children making fun of Jin for supposedly eating
dogs just shows that the children are making him seem abnormal and a shame to society just
because he is from a country that does things that are frowned upon in their

Ab Isotype Switching Case Study
Before encountering an antigen, a naГЇve B cell expresses both IgM and IgD on its surface. A

There is no DNA switch region before the CОґ gene. Switch regions are found in DNA upstream of

Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Scottish Architecture. Essay
In this essay, I will be discussing how Charles Rennie Mackintosh has contributed to Scottish
architecture. I will investigate his influences and how he affected architecture in Scotland over his
lifetime.
Born on 7th June 1868 in Glasgow, Mackintosh became interested in architecture as a profession
from an early age, and, at the age of sixteen secured an apprenticeship with John Hutchison. In order
to complete his apprenticeship, he enrolled in the Glasgow School of Art in 1884, where he met
Margaret MacDonald, an artist and his future wife. Due to poor health, Mackintosh often spent
weekends in the country side, sometimes travelling with Herbert McNair, a friend who worked at
the architect s firm of Honeyman and Keppie, (where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The School of Art was Mackintosh s first and largest commission, and he was awarded it in 1896.
Work on the School of Art began in 1897 and extended until 1899, when it was halted, until it was
eventually resumed in 1909 and finished.
While designing the Glasgow School of Art, Lethaby s Architecture, Mysticism and Myth was to
be an important source of principles for Mackintosh, due to its connecting of the Arts and Crafts
movement with the Celtic beliefs and Mysticism that greatly interested him. He also put great
stock in John Ruskin s views on materials that iron and glass will never worthily take the place of
stone because of this defect, the want of mass. For the School of Art, Mackintosh decided to use
local granite on three sides and brickwork on the fourth. The building was designed by
Mackintosh in the Gothic Revival manner so that the exterior would act as a skin the main
structure inside. The north façade on Renfrew Street is dominated by large studio windows and
a heavily sculpted main entrance with medieval motifs. The eastern end uses gables, projecting
turrets and is set out asymmetrically in order to further impart a Gothic Revival feel to the
building. The western façade containing the library rises starkly while the slope falls, creating a
look reminiscent of medieval fortifications, broken by large, twenty five foot tall windows. The
school of Art was completed in two phases and the difference in the east and west

Persepolis And Lolita In Tehran
How the idea of rebellion was treated by the authors? The idea was treated by the authors
because all the characters in the stories did something they wasn t supposed to do for example in
the story Lolita in Tehran the girl knew she wasn t allowed to wear bright clothes or nail polish
but she still did it anyways. The other story Persepolis 2 a woman had to spend a whole day at

The Mexican Cartel On A Global Scale
The Mexican Cartel on a Global scale
The Mexican drug cartel is a major actor on the world scene. Even though it is not seen this way
by the general public, those who pay attention know how far their reach is. The Mexican cartel
has expanded. There seems to be no sign of them slowing. They have the perfect storm of money,
military backing, political connections and Public intimidation. Their empire is growing by the
minute. Unfortunately most people have not given these ruthless criminals the attention they
deserve. They have direct impact on people around the world. This paper will explain various
aspects the groups and explain why more light needs to be shed on them To begin, one major point
to start with is there is more than one cartel. Fox news reports that there are somewhere between
sixty and eighty small and medium cartels. Business Insider lists seven major cartels. They go as
follows the Juarez cartel, The knights of Templar, The Gulf, the Tijuana Cartel
, The Beltran Leyva
Organization and the two most notorious the Los Zetas and the Sinaloa Cartel. The Los Zetas are
known for their cruelty. Murder, kidnapping, and torture are routine for them. They often use
these tactics to intimidate the public. The Sinaloa cartel, is known for its money and power. They
have monopolized drug trafficking in Chicago and the leader is so powerful he mysteriously
escaped prison. Each cartel is different however they all have the basic goal to gain monetary
assets. To expand, Los

Globalization Assignment
Written Assignment Unit 7
POLS 1503 Globalization
Introduction
As our world becomes more connected, the free travel of people and goods continue to rise in
dramatic fashion. There are many benefits such as increased trade, improved access to imported
goods, increased tourism and exposure to new cultures. With these benefits comes a risk of bringing
diseases across international borders. International travel and trade has brought new challenges to
public health care, and the threat of deadly illnesses spreading rapidly.
If the movement of people, food, and manufactured goods can have such a negative impact on
public health, should steps be taken to reduce these flows?
There are always risks with travel and imports. The benefits to the economy and increased access
to goods are worth the risks. However, in cases of emergency, it is completely reasonable to limit
trade and travel from affected areas. When cases of mad cow disease are detected, it is common to
block imports from the affect nations (Levin Institute, 2017a). During the outbreak of ebola in
Africa in 2014, the Obama administration opted for a temporary travel ban from west
Africa (Roberts, 2014). During the threat of an epidemic spreading across borders, extreme
measures have to be taken.
What other options are there for lowering the spread of global diseases?
International public health officials have made recommendations to help prevent the spread of
disease. These actions include a plan to monitor for new

The Ethical Issues Of Abortion
Introduction
There are numerous ethical issues that can develop in labor and delivery whether this issue
influences the mother, baby, or both. In healthcare, it is an obligation for the provider to give ideal
care, treatment, and prevent harm to patients while making ethical choices. Here and there, these
choices aren t highly contrasting and providers must outweigh benefits versus harm in order to
give the best care possible for mother and baby. One case of an ethical issues that emerges in
obstetrics is late abortion in raped victim women.
What is late term abortion related to raped victims? late term abortion which is also known as post

Cons
On the other hand, the against life or pro abortion support abortion of fetus for many reasons.
There are many times when abortion may be the best and only option for continuing live. One
and most painful reason to mother is when rape occur. Rape is an act of violence, not a natural
act of intercourse and intimate relationship between two. Rape wounds respect, freedom,
physical and moral integrity which every person has the right to. In other words, raped victim
did not choose to be pregnant for this reason she should not be forced to carry rapist s baby
against her will. Also some of the rape victims may be minors and not be mentally or physically
prepared to take care of themselves and the newborn baby after delivering. (Ladock)

Not only has the economy grown rapidly over the last quarter century but there has also been
dramatic demographic and social change. Fertility rates have declined substantially and there
have been massive investments in human capital. This can be seen in secondary school
enrollment rates which have risen from a mere 6% in 1960 to more than 50% today; primary
school enrollment is essentially universal. (Poppele 1999) The investments are also reflected in
the health of the population: at birth, the average Indonesian today expects to live to the age of
61 which is 50% longer than he or she expected 30 years ago. Thus, the labor force has not only
grown dramatically in size but also in quality. The consequences of these improvements are
reflected in significant rising real wage levels over the last three decades. (Smith 2002) Pride in
its past economic achievements and optimism about its future were suddenly challenged by the
economic crisis which was accompanied by dramatic shifts in the economic and political
landscape of the country. As indicated in Figure 1, the rupiah came under pressure in the last
half of 1997 when the exchange rate began showing signs of weakness. After falling by half from
around 2,400 per US$ to about 4,800 per US$ by December 1997, the rupiah collapsed in January
1998 when, over the course of just a few days, the exchange rate fell by 400% to Rp16,000 per

The Little Brown Brothers Of The United States
Nation is a broad term that could mean many things to different people. For instance, some people
classify nation as the title that is placed on those that group themselves in this imagined community
forged under patriotism. However, other groups of people like Filipinos have a complicated notion
of nation. For those Filipinos that came to the United States, they do not know where home or
nation is. To give a bit of background on the complicated understanding of nation for Filipinos it all
comes down to their once political standing as a colony of the United States. Many Filipinos grew
up with American movies and television shows and with the mentality that they were Filipino
Americans. Their English teachers encouraged them to be educated and go to America, yet they
never mentioned that once they went to the United States they would be treated as subhuman when
they got there. For instance, the little brown brothers like small children in need of tutalige

early 1900s by a finance executive at E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Co., of Wilmington,

decomposition process that can be used to build integrated systems of performance metrics. The
traditional role that the DuPont formula plays in finance is to help investors select projects and
investments that are the most profitable. The first application of the DuPont Model was in 1918.
It was used to help with DuPont s decision to become a major stakeholder in General Motors
(Mitchell, Mitchell, Cai, 2013). The DuPont accounting labs exported their ROI measure during
Pierre du Pont s reign from 1920 to 1923 as president of General Motors Corp., in which DuPont
had taken a major stockholding. At GM and across corporate North America, ROI has since
formed the basis of financial control (Southerst, 1993). Over the years, it has evolved into a classic
diagnostic tool for identifying strengths, weaknesses and potential improvements to a business s
capital structure in order to maximize shareholder wealth. (Mitchell, Mitchell, Cai, 2013). The

Everyday Use Symbolism Analysis
Most works of literature are full of symbolism. The symbolism they contain can vary from a
character s personality and actions representing an idea to an object representing an idea. The
short story Everyday Use by Alice Walker makes great use of this symbolism. The primary struggle
in this short story takes place when the oldest daughter Dee returns home to her family s estate. A
contrast between two vastly different approaches on tradition and honoring one s heritage is shown
immediately. This contrast is most evident over the items that are symbolic to a different time
period. The primary focal point of the short storyEveryday Use is the clash of ideas on how to

In this essay I will be assessing the different areas of a student transitioning to university. I will be
discussing the key issues and challenges, which students may experience within their transitions
and how they will be able to deal with the difficulties they may have during their first year of
university, in addition to this there are strategies and actions they can take in order for their
transition to be effective. The experience students have can all vary on different students individual

firstly you have students who will be studying within their region or those who decides to move

When students transition to university, there are many challenges and issues that students will

I Was Wrong For My Brother
I was wrong.
Being the youngest in my family, I had always thought that there exist only one path for me to
follow the path that had been established by those who walked in front of me, my parents and my
brother. For many of years, blinded by this idea, I unknowingly had always been following the
footsteps of my brother who is two years older than me as the role model. Following the things he
did, trying to achieve the same things that he achieved, soon, I became a shadow that imitated his
every movement.
Being able to attend the same competitive elementary school in Indonesia even though I was still
under the required age, made me realize that I was able to follow the same expectation that my
parents had for my brother. However, despite of the hard work that I put into studying, I wasn t
able to sit at the top during the elementary school year as I could barely pass the classes. This
made me conscious of the differences between those who are gifted and those who aren t.
Not capable of entering the same middle school as my brother forced me to see the gap between us
increase every moment. I started to run in an attempt to close the gap, but I tripped and couldn t
run. I could only watch the gap increase yet again.
During the middle school years, I joined the same martial arts club that my brother attended after I
gazed in awe of the medals that my brother had won during a city martial arts tournament. Two

Rembrandt and The Western Art
Rembrandt uses oil on wood in one of his earliest self portraits, depicting himself in a fabulous
costume that includes a plumed hat, a silk scarf, and an elegant jacket complete with gold trim.
There is a heavy use of shadow, concealing half of his face, with the left half being illuminated by
a sole source of light located out of the frame. His face purposefully lacks an expression, as if to
create an open ended illusion of confusion. Unlike most of his works, this painting is quite large,
having dimensions of 35 by 29 square inches. Although Rembrandthad already begun to attract
serious attention, he had not yet received any portrait commissions by 1629, so this piece may
have been created to show off his artistic abilities. This self portrait currently resides in the
Isabella Gardner Museum after it was purchased in 1896 from a private collector, Lieutenant
Colonel Sawyer.8 Shortly after he painted his self portrait at age 23, Rembrandt moved to
Amsterdam in 1631, where he first began officially working as a professional portraitist. By that
time, he had begun to gain recognition and stardom for his world class portraits. Rembrandt was
living in the house of Hendrick van Uylenburgh, a Dutch art dealer, who introduced Rembrandt to
his cousin, Saskia van Uylenburgh, whom Rembrandt married in 1634. This relationship only
further progressed his career, bringing him in contact with rich patrons awaiting to commission
portraits of themselves and their families.9 As

Stress Management For The Busy Entrepreneur
Stress Management For The Busy Entrepreneur
Being an entrepreneur may have driven you out of your home and probably has caused
misunderstandings and miscommunication between you and your family. While you may be too
focused on making your business to become successful, you are losing your family and friends, and
even yourself. Entrepreneurs have a huge burden to carry once they start putting up the business
because it can demand so much time and energy that could drain them eventually. Any startup
business will require long hours of work to the point of even bringing home some of the tasks for
the day.
An entrepreneur is expected to be hardworking, brave and intelligent. After all, if one has a weak
heart in facing all the trials in a business, then the business will never succeed. But sometimes,
having to deal with the same things over and over can just make your brain shut down from
functioning properly, thus, you lose the ability to solve problems, to rationally think and to make
decisions. When this happens, it will be difficult for you to see how things really are. Does it sound
familiar?
Work related stress is costing the economy a huge amount of money in a year where there is an
increase in the number of deaths each year due to workplace stress. Such health conditions are a

Dosophila Larval Orn Experiment
The major conclusion from this study is that individual Drosophila larval ORN s are differentially
modulated by animal s starved state. We conclude this based on the following experimental
evidence: First, when we tested the olfactory responses of Drosophila larvae under starved
conditions, using the two choice assay (Monte, Woodard et al. 1989), (Kreher, Mathew et al. 2008)
we observed changes in RI for only three out of the seven odorants tested. This experimental result
supports previous work from Mathew et al., 2013, which demonstrated functional diversity among
individual ORNs. Starved larvae had higher attractiveness to odorants acetal, pentyl acetate and 4, 5
dimethylthiazole. Each of these odorants elicit strong and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

We have observed that acetal, 2, 5 dimethylpyrazine had higher run speed and run length in case
of non starved larvae while for pentyl acetate, the starved larvae had higher run speed and run
length. As of now we cannot explain the reason for this reversed trend in the case of pentyl
acetate. However, with the trends that we have observed for acetal and 2, 5 dimethylpyrazine
we conclude that not all ORN s show similar tracking effect under starvation. Each ORN is
functionally diverse and act as functionally non equivalent units. From our results, overall, we
conclude that ORNs contribute differently to the olfactory circuit under changes in internal
states such as starvation. These results further support previous studies regarding existence of
functional individuality among neurons (Mathew, Martelli et al. 2013). Starved state of the
animal impacts olfactory behavior via GABA signaling As mentioned previously, local neurons
secrete GABA and LN s are primarily GABAergic interneurons (Ng, Roorda et al. 2002). Olfactory
receptor neurons express GABA (B) receptors (Root, Masuyama et al. 2008) and strikingly each
ORN channel has unique baseline levels of GABA (B) receptor expression in adult flies (Root et
al., 2008). When the levels of GABA (B) R1 in ORN::Or 42b and in ORN::Or 47a were decreased

(949). Sheriff Peters s harsh and dismissive attitude has made him impossible to trust. If you cannot
trust someone whose main job description is to serve and protect you, then who can you trust?
Given that this play is in part a murder mystery, the facts of the murder should be told through an
unbiased perspective so the audience can deduce the suspect at the same time as the characters.
However, in the case of Trifles, the circumstances of the case are presented from the point of view
of a man, Lewis Hale, who was a friend and neighbor of the victim. Throughout his description of
the events that play out when he discovered the body, Hale makes a few references to the greater

Personality Traits Of Personality Tests
My whole life I have been intrigued by personality tests. I love seeing the results I get, even if
the test is about what type of pizza I am. However, the more tests I took, the easier it was to find
the patterns within the tests. I realized that most of the answers that are supposedly tailored to
me are just general personality traits that could apply to the majority of the population. The
Strengths Quest quiz was not one of these tests. Although I found a few similar questions, the
quiz is so detailed that it is easy to tell how unique each person s results will be. This quiz
showed me parts of my personality that I had never realized existed. When I first saw my results,
I was quite shocked. My top five traits were Maximizer, Individualization, Empathy, Analytical,
and Belief. Maximizer and Empathy did not seem like traits I had, but after reading the
descriptions I see that they are fitting. Maximizer is the strength of pursuing excellence, which is
very true for me. I like to do things I am good at, and avoid doing the activities where I do not
excel. I cling to others that enjoy what I do, whether that be school work, painting, baking, or
simply listening. However, I tend to dwell on the fact that I cannot do everything well. I see others
that can do certain things I cannot, and it makes me feel inadequate. But this quiz has shown me
my fault, and now I can take those doubtful thoughts and make them about how each person has
their own unique strengths. Empathy,

Environmental Exploring And The Environmental Effects Of...
For centuries, production and absorption of carbon dioxide was in balance with the ecosystem
however, in the last century, human activity has caused detrimental effects to the earth s
atmosphere due to the consequential changes in earth s natural feedback mechanism. This problem
ultimately originated from the industrial revolution in the 18th century where as a result caused the
constant production and burning of fossil fuels which has presently caused the warming of earths
surface. This is ultimately a result of by the greenhouse effect ...which is caused by the interaction
between earth s atmosphere and incoming radiation from the sun. Greenhouse gases primarily
consist of carbon dioxidehowever others such as ...water vapour, methane, and nitrous oxide... are
also associated to the greenhouse effect. Scientifically, solar radiation passes through the
atmosphere to the surface of earth, where it is absorbed and then radiated upward as heat is the
result of the high emission of greenhouse gases. The most substantial and common way of emission
is through the burning of fossil fuels in cars, factories and electricity production. Therefore, human
activities over the past century has ultimately caused the more recent problem of the effects global
warmingis posing to our ecosystem and planet.
Currently, statistics have proven global warming to be a global real crisis that requires an
immediate solution. Through the scientific aid in earth orbiting satellites, it has allowed

Early Southeast Asian Americans
The following questions will be analyzed based on Anthony Reid s work Early Southeast Asians
categorization of Europeans: How did Southeast Asians categorize Europeans? Was the
classification considered a racial ideology? How did the rating change over time? When Southeast
Asians first encountered the Europeans, they did not categorize them because the region was
already highly diverse ethnically and religiously. Since the Europeans were not classified based on
their race, there was no proof of racial ideology during the time Southeast Asians made contact with
them. However, there was evidence that over time, a negative relationship emerged between the
Southeast Asians and Europeans. The hostility was due to the Europeans firm belief that everyone...

To an extent, it can be seen as a racial ideology in the twentieth century due to the hostility
Europeans created in the region. In the early sixteenth century when the European knew their place
and respected the various cultures and customs of Southeast Asia, there was no need for racial
ideology. The different groups in the region were able to coexist and put the several economic
benefits of trading available in the area before antagonism. Unfortunately, the Europeans once again
could not cohabitate long enough without implementing hierarchies and the entitlement of being
superior. The European s activity in the region disrupted a peaceful Southeast Asian society over
time, which resulted in an unnecessary racial classification of the

What Caused The Haiti Earthquake
It is true that the earthquake exacerbated the water and sanitation problem in Haiti, but in reply to
the statement of the sanitation issue of water contamination, cholera started because of feces that
got into the Haitian s primary source of water.
Being curious of how the water in Haiti became contaminated, I found this article from the New
York time which stated that the United Nation accepts responsibility for the choleraoutbreak that
killed thousands of people in Haiti. It was reported that the office of Secretary General Ban Ki
moon admitted that the water contamination from feces that caused this devastating epidemic, was
in deeded started because of the United Nation actions (Katz, 2016). Furthermore, even the deputy

Open By Andre Agassi Essay
Open by Andre Agassi
Through the eyes of an eight year old, Andre Agassi shares his private life and background of
becoming a world famous tennis player, in his autobiography Open from 2009. Already from the
beginning Andre Agassi narrates about the family s more or less tense relationship to each other
and how the tennis player s career is affected of his social heritage. This is the three main themes
Andre Agassi gets around in his story about his early life.
First, Andre Agassi tells about the grandmother s relationship with the father, the mother and
himself. There is a continuously negative and tense tone, and it is easy that the narrator does not
like his father s mother. He even says, I m only eight, but I ll drive her to the airport myself...

SГёren Kierkegaard s father was a dark and tough man, who made SГёren Kierkegaard notice the
darker sides of life. It inspired him to create the philosophy he had. This is a bit like Andre Agassi s
father who also is a part of the reason why Andre Agassi ends up being a famous tennis player.
His father is very negative and pressures Andre Agassi a lot. SГёren Kierkegaard s father is just
affecting SГёren Kierkegaard by his own way of seeing life, not by pressure. Also the two famous
males have two more passive mothers.
As a conclusion of Andre Agassi s autobiography Open one can say that the relationships
between the generations is not as good as it could be. The grandmother harasses her son and this
son and father pressures Andre Agassi. The relationships are very negative in a lot of ways, but
either way it ended up shaping the world famous tennis player. This is also how his life and career
has been affected by his social heritage. But that might just be the message; diamonds are made

Quotes Becoming Famous
A collection of one or more sentences have the ability to cement the reputation of a figure in
history. While that may seem daunting, it is simply true. From ancient to modern times, the most
influential historical figures earned their place because of their words. The reason we talk is in
order to be heard. No matter the ridiculousness of what we say, we do not get the choice on
whether those words remain in the memory of individuals. Quotes become famous because
someone took the time to look at them and decide that these words deserve to be heard. Whether
these words appear on a national monument or in the memory of your closest friend, they have the
ability to be memorable. As an avid reader, the most memorable quotes I come across are

Food Stamps Pros And Cons
Is it fair for the people in poverty and on food stamps to receive more than a hard working
citizen? The government gave enough benefits to the people in the food stamp program so that
everyone on food stamps received 60,000 dollars, while the average income for a hard working
American is 50,000 dollars. The definition of food stamps is a voucher issued by the governmentto
those on low income and is exchangeable for food. The government spends over seventy six
billion dollars per year on food stamps. This covers about forty eight million people in America.
The food stamp program is lacking to provide stability for the poverty stricken people of America.

is the amount of a households income, with no deductions. The net income is the gross income
subtracted by the deductions. Deductions include a twenty percent earned income deduction, a
deduction for dependent care costs, which includes education, a deduction for child support, a
deduction for elderly and disabled people, and an excess shelter cost deduction. If the deduction is
less than the average, the household has passed the income net test ( Supplemental ).
Requirements in some states are different from other states. For example, the asset requirements

they own. Households can obtain 2,250 dollars in the resources that they have ( Supplemental ).

Augustus Univided Leadership
Another subsequent source that helps debunk the theory of Augustus undivided leadership is from
Dio Cassius s Roman History. This is principally accomplished as Cassius Dio, like Tacitus,
mainly focusses on Augustus s single minded need for power in relation to the rights granted by a
high majority of the people and the senate. However despite this, Cassius Dio declares that, Caesar
himself was destined to have absolute control of all matters for all time, because he was not only
master of the funds but also commanded the soldiers... Through this declaration provided by
Cassius Dio, it can be interpreted that through becoming a part of the military command Augustus
could immediately have access to power as there was a high amount of money

The Importance Of Fidelity In The Lais Of Marie De France
The story of Eliduc exemplifies the importance of fidelity in love when dealing with adultery.
Allowing Eliduc to marry his true love and giving herself fully to god is the most loving and
giving thing she could do, this is a prime example of selflessness. This story incorporates two types
of selflessness, the loveof god and love between man and women. The characters in the love
triangle that forms all suffer at one time or another which leads to the question is that why this
story ended with true love prevailing and there being happy ending for all involved? The common
denominator in the Lais of Marie de France is the most unifying ideal which is suffering for the
sake of true courtly love. In the prologue Marie wrote, when a truly

CIA Interrogation Tactics
The US Senate Intelligence Committee released a report in 2014 about the interrogation tactics
used by the CIA during George Bush s Presidency after 9/11. Composed mainly by Democrats, it
is seen as containing a strong bias which led to the CIA being depicted as cruel and unjust, and
guilty of illegal torture. Coined the torture report, it s unsurprising that there are a few who are
wary of the CIA after reading this. However, it seems that the Senate report misinterpreted the
interrogation methods of the CIA as torture. There may be instances in which the interrogation goes
too far, but there is no denying it has significantly helped America s fight against terrorism and

  • 2. Walt Disney Company And Its International Theme Parks Before discussing the cultural missteps taken by the Walt Disney Company (TWDC) at their international theme parks, a quick overview of the company and its international theme parks will be given. The Walt Disney Company is an entertainment conglomerate with business divisions in movies, television, radio, theater, publishing, and theme parks. Since the focus of this paper is international theme parks, only a brief history of the American theme parks will be discussed. Walt Disneythought of the idea of the theme park one day when he took his daughters to a local park and watched them as they rode the merry go round (Disney, 2009). Disney wanted a place where children and their parents could have fun and enjoy the rides together (Disney,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tokyo Disneyland Tokyo Disneyland (TDL) was the Walt Disney Company s first attempt at planning and developing an international theme park. In the 1970 s after Walt Disney s death, the Walt Disney Company was not doing well financially when the Oriental Land Company (OLC) approached the company about opening a theme park in Tokyo. The Oriental Land Company, according to Raz (1999), author of Riding the Black Ship: Japan and Tokyo Disneyland, is a partnership between two large firms in Japan, the Mitsui Real Estate Development and Keisei Electric Railway (p.4). The Walt Disney Company was hesitant to open a new theme park in its current financial state, but the OLC offered them a deal that was hard to resist. The Oriental Land Company would own and operate the Tokyo Disneyland while the Walt Disney Company would receive 10 percent of admissions fees and 5 percent of the revenues from food and souvenir sales (Raz, 1999, p. 27). The Walt Disney Company also received licensing fees up to 20 million dollars for their characters, attractions, and more, as well as control over the design of the park and control of park operations (Raz, 1999, p. 27; Eisner Schwartz, 1998, p.263). Although the deal seemed alluring at the time, the Walt Disney Company would soon come to regret the deal they made with the Oriental Land Company. Tokyo Disneyland opened on April 15th, 1983 and is described as a carbon copy of its American counterparts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Experiences Of Denver, Florence, And The Survivors The experiences of Denver, Florence, and the survivors of the atomic bomb represent one way invaders intrude on homes and capture the occupant s attention, which freezes time. This claim is further strengthened by the characters in these books that exist outside of I24, a troubled conscience, and Hiroshima. What the authors demonstrate through these characters is the absence of time freezing. Even though, these characters interact with the invader. Moreover, the authors reveal how character s attachment to the domestic space exacerbates the paralysis of time. In Beloved, time does not freeze for Stamp Paid because he is a derelict. Contrary to Sethe and Denver who have a myriad of memories tied to I24, Stamp Paid doesn t have ties... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stamp Paid doesn t have a home, and therefore he isn t obligated to remain with the invader. Stamp Paid can leave, and he does just that. The lack of a domestic sphere weakens the preoccupation with an invader because the individual can simply leave the place of intrusion. While Stamp Paid is free from Beloved and I24, Elisha is free from memories that trouble his conscience. Baldwin displays a character who isn t affected by invaders and the freezing of time, through John s role model, Elisha. Understand that Elisha is saved, and this holy revival exonerates him from his past. Elisha demonstrates no recognition of his dabble with sin that transpires with Ella Mae. John comments on this: He stared in a dull paralysis of terror at the body of Elisha. He saw him standing had Elisha forgotten? beside Ella Mae before the altar while Father James rebuked him for the evil that lived in the flesh (12). Whereas memories invade Florence s mind and directs the narrative into an explanation of her past, there is no chapter of Go Tell It titled, Elisha s Prayer. Baldwin dedicates voyages into the past solely on characters who have troubled consciences. Elisha is saved: You got to remember, Elisha said, turning now to look at him, that you think about it with a carnal mind. You still got Adam s mind, boy, and you keep thinking about your friend, you want to do what they do, and you want to go to the movies, and I bet you think ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sub Saharan Patriarchy Essay According to books like the Bible women and even in some societies today, women are normally seen as inferior to men and quite weak to handle rigorous tasks like governance among others. Hence the ratio of Sub Saharan male and female representation and participation in decision making structures are greatly imbalanced, men are often favored in these structures. This phenomenon is not unique to Sub Saharan African countries but also occurs in first world countries where women are less represented in parliament. What is patriarchy? a system of social structures and practices in which men dominate, oppress and exploit women (Walby,1990). (Kamla,1993) agrees with Walby s assertion; patriarchy is constructed on a system of power relations which are hierarchical and unequal where men control women s production, reproduction, and sexuality. It imposes masculinity and femininity character stereotypes in a society which strengthen the iniquitous power relations between men and women. • 8. Elements Of Horror Stories Hattie Sparks Sharon A. Russell explains to readers how to decipher horror stories by saying, Some students think that the best way to examine it is to deal with the way horror fiction is organized or structured. Examining the organization of a horror story shows that it shared certain traits with other types of fiction. . She says this in her article What is a Horror Story . Horror fiction needs to be in a certain order, structured, and have specific horror traits. Some essential traits to horror she later talks about, are supernatural elements, eerie settings, and suspense. When these elements interact horror is created. The Monkey s Paw by W.W. Jacobs is a horror story because, of the supernatural paw, the setting, and suspense of the story. One important element of horror is a supernatural trait, which The Monkey s Paw does indeed have. The main supernatural trait would be the paw itself. The history of the paw is stated, by Sergeant Major Morris, to have had a spell placed on it by a fakir. Sergeant Morris, also told the readers how all the previous six wishes were answered. Multiple wishes answered using the same process, could not be coincidence. Another reason that this story fits into the supernatural trait is how Mr. White describes his experience using the paw. He states, it twisted in my hand like a snake (pg 110). Only something supernatural would do this. Lastly, it is not simply a coincidence that when Mr. White wishes for 200 pounds, that it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A share will give the owner of the stock the company s profits or loses over time. The good thing about stocks is they can be sold at almost any time as long as there is someone willing to buy. A bond, on the other hand, is a fixed interest financial asset issued by governments, companies, banks, and other large entities. Bonds also are called funds. I decided to be on the safe side and only invest 1,000 dollars in Chevron Corporation because of the risk factor that comes into play with the oil and gas industry. Chevron Corporation actually did well after all. The share prices were high to start with. Chevron Corporation had one stock split within the ten years. Through those two exercises I was able to view other people s opinions on some very important issues. It has definitely helped me to see why our society is struggling with ethical issues. It also makes me ask how did we let it get this far? I think through this class I have found the answer. I believe it is because we, Pakistanis, have no absolute authority. That is why some of my fellow students answered some of the questions that pertained to whether a certain issue is right or wrong as it would depend on the situation or they would never want to be known as the whistle blower. I don t believe that there are any gray areas. Stealing is wrong no matter the situation or what the person has stolen. Society today tells us that there are these gray areas, but that is only used to make excuses for our wrongs because let s face it no one wants to be wrong. For this reason, Banana Yoshimoto provides the theme that it is necessary to find positive coping mechanisms in every situation to limit the despair one faces; she does this through her juxtaposition of Yuichi and Mikage and the use of the scene where the two eat dinner together after Erikos death. Yoshimoto does this through her use of Yuichi and his drinking habits on pages sixty through sixty three. The available data suggested, this is not so, Marijuana occasionally produces acute panic reactions or even transient psychoses. Furthermore, a person driving under the influence of marijuana is a danger to themselves and others. If smoked heavily and a great deal of consistency, its use has been clearly associated with mental breakdown. In many persons who smoke chronically, the drug reinforces passivity and reduces goal directed, constructive activity. The chronic use of pure resin (hashish) has been associated both with mental deterioration and criminality. One of the major complications of marijuana use is the tendency on the part of some users to progress to more dangerous drugs. Users in economically deprived areas usually go on to heroin, whereas more affluent individuals tend to move from marijuana to more potent hallucinogens such as LSD. There is no established medical use for marijuana or any other cannabis preparation. In the United States, its use is a crime and the laws governing marijuana are similar to those regulating heroin. Many authorities now urge that the laws be modified to mitigate the penalties relating to conviction on marijuana possession charges. The Crucible is a play based upon the events in 1692, which led to the Salem Witch Trials , a series of hearings before local magistrates to prosecute over 150 people accused of witchcraft. This was due to the hysteria caused by a group of girls accusing innocent people of witch craft. The play was set in Salem, Massachusetts between February 1692 and May 1693. Salem was a very isolated and puritanical community, so their biggest fear was the devil and witchcraft. A person being accused of witchcraft was the worst thing possible in this society. One of the play writers that was blamed was Arthur Miller himself, and he had to suffer the consequence of prison for one year as there were no free trials. After Miller s time in prison, he wrote the Crucible, an allegorical play in which Miller linked the situation of America going hunting Communists to the Witch Hunts in Salem. Throughout the play Miller creates tension between the characters, however this tension is mainly shown in Act Two. Although the main theme of the Crucible is witch craft, this act concentrates mainly on the relationship of John and Elizabeth Proctor. Miller uses a variety of dramatic devices such as, stage directions, long pauses and silences, entrances of other characters (interruptions), use of contrast, length of sentences and punctuation to express mood and feeling, use of figurative language and repetition and how other characters react to a particular problem. Prior to this act the girls have named the witches and have accused innocent people, for example I saw Goody Hawkins with the devil... This scene ends with everybody screaming and being hysterical and as soon as act two starts, there is silence. This shows a powerful use of contrast between the acts through the stage directions. This also affects the audience because as the curtain is falling they are left at the edge of their seats and as soon as it drops they are left hanging as they want to know what has happened to the girls. These insults are used everyday, as it is a way for society to label people for being different from everyone else. Stereotypes are used in American Born Chinese to show how stereotypes are used to negatively group people, to depict how others bully those who are different, and are used to show how stereotypes affect those they are directed towards and those around them in a negative way. The first way stereotypes are used is to show negative stereotypes from the looks from other people. One example of this happening is on page 31. [Timmy ] My momma says Chinese people eat dogs. They teased him about eating dogs (Yang 32 33). This only because Timmy and the teacher assumed the worst of Jin s culture and associated him with it. These kids were bullying Jin because he was different. This happens everywhere from the workplace to the classroom and some people think that it is true so it is okay. In order to make them look and feel superior, the kids bullied Jin and made him feel left out and not worth anything. This also happens today, as people are constantly putting down others at work or in school due to their race, religion, or just by the way they look. Another example of stereotypes being used to show superiority is when Peter Grabinsky taking Jin s sandwich and promising to be his friend if he continued to give his lunch to him (Peter) (Yang 34). Peter then treats Jin as if he is a dog s favorite toy that will soon be forgotten and thrown away. This does happen, as Peter leaves to live with his father and leaves Jin. This example shows how Peter took advantage of the other children s disliking towards Jin due to what he looked like by taking his lunch and abusing him. Both of these show how students of mayflower elementary treat Jin as if he is useless and bully him in order to make them feel special. The kids saw that Jin was different and their brains seemed to associate him with eating dogs and coming from china. To sum it up, the children making fun of Jin for supposedly eating dogs just shows that the children are making him seem abnormal and a shame to society just because he is from a country that does things that are frowned upon in their ... Following the things he did, trying to achieve the same things that he achieved, soon, I became a shadow that imitated his every movement. Being able to attend the same competitive elementary school in Indonesia even though I was still under the required age, made me realize that I was able to follow the same expectation that my parents had for my brother. However, despite of the hard work that I put into studying, I wasn t able to sit at the top during the elementary school year as I could barely pass the classes. This made me conscious of the differences between those who are gifted and those who aren t. Not capable of entering the same middle school as my brother forced me to see the gap between us increase every moment. I started to run in an attempt to close the gap, but I tripped and couldn t run. I could only watch the gap increase yet again. During the middle school years, I joined the same martial arts club that my brother attended after I gazed in awe of the medals that my brother had won during a city martial arts tournament. • 37. Rembrandt and The Western Art Rembrandt uses oil on wood in one of his earliest self portraits, depicting himself in a fabulous costume that includes a plumed hat, a silk scarf, and an elegant jacket complete with gold trim. There is a heavy use of shadow, concealing half of his face, with the left half being illuminated by a sole source of light located out of the frame. His face purposefully lacks an expression, as if to create an open ended illusion of confusion. Unlike most of his works, this painting is quite large, having dimensions of 35 by 29 square inches. Although Rembrandthad already begun to attract serious attention, he had not yet received any portrait commissions by 1629, so this piece may have been created to show off his artistic abilities. This self portrait currently resides in the Isabella Gardner Museum after it was purchased in 1896 from a private collector, Lieutenant Colonel Sawyer.8 Shortly after he painted his self portrait at age 23, Rembrandt moved to Amsterdam in 1631, where he first began officially working as a professional portraitist. By that time, he had begun to gain recognition and stardom for his world class portraits. Rembrandt was living in the house of Hendrick van Uylenburgh, a Dutch art dealer, who introduced Rembrandt to his cousin, Saskia van Uylenburgh, whom Rembrandt married in 1634. This relationship only further progressed his career, bringing him in contact with rich patrons awaiting to commission portraits of themselves and their families.9 As ... Stress Management For The Busy Entrepreneur Stress Management For The Busy Entrepreneur Being an entrepreneur may have driven you out of your home and probably has caused misunderstandings and miscommunication between you and your family. While you may be too focused on making your business to become successful, you are losing your family and friends, and even yourself. Entrepreneurs have a huge burden to carry once they start putting up the business because it can demand so much time and energy that could drain them eventually. Any startup business will require long hours of work to the point of even bringing home some of the tasks for the day. An entrepreneur is expected to be hardworking, brave and intelligent. After all, if one has a weak heart in facing all the trials in a business, then the business will never succeed. But sometimes, having to deal with the same things over and over can just make your brain shut down from functioning properly, thus, you lose the ability to solve problems, to rationally think and to make decisions. When this happens, it will be difficult for you to see how things really are. Does it sound familiar? Work related stress is costing the economy a huge amount of money in a year where there is an increase in the number of deaths each year due to workplace stress. We conclude this based on the following experimental evidence: First, when we tested the olfactory responses of Drosophila larvae under starved conditions, using the two choice assay (Monte, Woodard et al. 1989), (Kreher, Mathew et al. 2008) we observed changes in RI for only three out of the seven odorants tested. This experimental result supports previous work from Mathew et al., 2013, which demonstrated functional diversity among individual ORNs. Starved larvae had higher attractiveness to odorants acetal, pentyl acetate and 4, 5 dimethylthiazole. Each of these odorants elicit strong and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We have observed that acetal, 2, 5 dimethylpyrazine had higher run speed and run length in case of non starved larvae while for pentyl acetate, the starved larvae had higher run speed and run length. As of now we cannot explain the reason for this reversed trend in the case of pentyl acetate. However, with the trends that we have observed for acetal and 2, 5 dimethylpyrazine we conclude that not all ORN s show similar tracking effect under starvation. Each ORN is functionally diverse and act as functionally non equivalent units. From our results, overall, we conclude that ORNs contribute differently to the olfactory circuit under changes in internal states such as starvation. These results further support previous studies regarding existence of functional individuality among neurons (Mathew, Martelli et al. 2013). Starved state of the animal impacts olfactory behavior via GABA signaling As mentioned previously, local neurons secrete GABA and LN s are primarily GABAergic interneurons (Ng, Roorda et al. 2002). Olfactory receptor neurons express GABA (B) receptors (Root, Masuyama et al. 2008) and strikingly each ORN channel has unique baseline levels of GABA (B) receptor expression in adult flies (Root et al., 2008). Trifles By Susan Glaspell Critical Analysis Essay Constantly being torn down and belittled over the course of a lifetime can put a toll on anyone s sense of purpose and health, so it makes sense that in the 1916 play Trifles by Susan Glaspell someone finally snaps. In the play, Minnie Wright is accused of killing her husband John Wright in his sleep. The mystery, however, does not surround Minnie s innocence, but rather her motivation in killing her husband. Ironically, the mystery is solved, not by those who purposefully came to the house to investigate, by the women who came as friends of the accused. By the finale of the play, the men in the party have still failed to find any useful evidence and are actively being worked against, as the women are hiding a crucial bit of evidence. But... Given that this play is in part a murder mystery, the facts of the murder should be told through an unbiased perspective so the audience can deduce the suspect at the same time as the characters. However, in the case of Trifles, the circumstances of the case are presented from the point of view of a man, Lewis Hale, who was a friend and neighbor of the victim. However, the more tests I took, the easier it was to find the patterns within the tests. I realized that most of the answers that are supposedly tailored to me are just general personality traits that could apply to the majority of the population. The Strengths Quest quiz was not one of these tests. Although I found a few similar questions, the quiz is so detailed that it is easy to tell how unique each person s results will be. This quiz showed me parts of my personality that I had never realized existed. When I first saw my results, I was quite shocked. My top five traits were Maximizer, Individualization, Empathy, Analytical, and Belief. Maximizer and Empathy did not seem like traits I had, but after reading the descriptions I see that they are fitting. Maximizer is the strength of pursuing excellence, which is very true for me. However, I tend to dwell on the fact that I cannot do everything well. I see others that can do certain things I cannot, and it makes me feel inadequate.
