Collective Bargaining Executive Summary
Chapter 13 details the mechanisms by which the NLRB determines whether a union will represent a
company s employees for the purposes of collective bargaining. Represented employees within a
collective bargaining unit elect representatives of the specific bargaining unit to serve as the exclusive
representatives of said employees within the respective bargaining unit. While elections are common,
the NLRA does not require that a collective bargaining unit hold an election. Representatives can be
chosen through voluntary recognition as long as the representative has majority support of the
collective bargaining unit. Beyond that, the position of the union as the exclusive bargaining agent
supersedes any individual contracts of employment made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Section 9(b) of the NLRA provides that the definition of an appropriate bargaining unit is a matter left
to the Board s discretion. Section 9(b) also contains the following five provisions: The options open to
the board in determining a bargaining unit includes an employer wide unit, a craft unit, a single plant
unit, or a subdivision thereof. The unit cannot contain both professional employees and non
professional employees, unless a majority of the professional employees have voted to be included in
the unit. A craft unit cannot be found to be inappropriate simply on the ground that a different unit was
established by a previous Board determination, unless a majority of the employees in the proposed
craft unit vote against representation in such a separate craft unit. A unit including non guard or non
security employees cannot include plant guards or security personnel; conversely, a union representing
plant guards cannot be certified if it also includes workers other than guards as members or if it is
directly or indirectly affiliated with a union representing persons other than

1000 Class Reflection
Business Recitation 1000 class has been such a great experience and expanded my knowledge with the
excel program while also incorporating the use of excel to create the PowerPoint in class helped me to
know the program better. This learning experience will definitely advance my knowledge in excel as
well as assist me to prepare for the corporate world where these skills are used in day to day basis.
Professor Williamson, you mentioned in the content section restating that this class went through some
major reconstruction from being a communication based where students were required to do a
presentation about the choice of their company for 30 minutes and writing a 15 page term paper to
mostly excel based class now. I believe that these changes were needed and it really helped me expand
my familiarity with excel to knowing exactly how to work with the program including profit and
expense analysis, Income statement, bar chart, line chart, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, I became comfortable with excel because I did hesitate and struggled with it in the
beginning but all the materials and instruction improved my performance and some practicing as well.
Fusing excel with PowerPoint was a much simpler task than collecting data and making graphs in
excel. After all the critical work in excel, copy and pasting was one way to transfer the information
which I used for presentation. My group and I chose Microsoft as a company of our choice and
collected all the data needed from the online sources. After enumerating the information in excel, my
group members and I transferred the graphs and charts by simply copy pasting. I believe that it was
definitely an excellent idea for creating a presentation because we were able to practice and put our
skills learned in class to test.

Sex Offenders Against Children are an Epidemic Overrunning...
With the creation of computers and Internet, high tech crimes are occurring more frequently than few
decades ago. According to a report made by the U.S. Department of Justice; one in five children (10 to
17 years old) receives unwanted sexual solicitations online (Knetzger Muraski, 2008). One of this
online sex crime against children is known as child enticement. The Florida statute 847.0135 states
that an individual is involved in online child enticement when [...] utilizes a computer on line service,
Internet service, or [...] to seduce, solicit, lure, or entice, or attempt to [...] a child or another person
believed by a person to be a child to commit any illegal act [...] relating to sexual battery [...]
(Knetzger Muraski, 2008). Therefore, online sex crime investigators must use the appropriate
protocols during an investigation to avoid a lawful criminal defense based on law enforcement
entrapment. One of the best approaches to identify, prosecute, and arrest on line sex offenders (i.e.
pedophiles) is to be actively engage in the online chat rooms (i.e. online enticement sting). In here,
high tech crime investigators must follow up a protocol. First, he/she must create an identity to look
like an underage individual. In the chat transcript provided for the case study, the undercover officer
chooses bubblebeth2005 (ITT Technical Institute , 2014). With this user name, the officer personifies a

Technological Model Of The Technological Environment
Technological Factor
Based on the model of the technological environment, there are three dimensions to conceptualize the
changes in industries, technology, process, and impetus. New technologies have had an enormous
impact across all aspects of the fitness industry, all the way from marketing and payment transactions
to biometric evaluation.
New technology is often synonymous with advances in science more specifically, computer science.
This is a logical assumption given that we live in a digital era. However, technology has a scope that
extends beyond the constraints of the computer. Within general definitions, technology encompasses
the practical application of knowledge to design and implement systems that help solve human
problems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Creating a safe workout environment for members goes hand in hand with personal comfort.
Advances in green, environmentally friendly products, such as low VOC paints and high efficiency
HVAC systems, have allowed gym owners to incorporate these into their design while enhancing their
members experiences. Research on the feasibility in terms of design capacity and cost effectiveness of
these systems is the first step in the implementation process.
As for the process perspective, streamlining efficiency is an important factor from an operational
standpoint. Advances in such things as web and software based entry systems/membership programs
and the popularity of the Internet have led to a new digital era. Now, virtually every form within the
fitness center can be offered digitally. Other factors affecting the front desk/check in process include
such things as the rise in popularity of digital locker locks. Nowadays, the large amount of space
dedicated to key cards and member files has been replaced by a single computer terminal.
Another example of technology streamlining efficiency is the rise of asset management software built
into some of the new cardiovascular equipment. This software flags equipment malfunctions by
sending a service needed message to the appropriate party via the Internet. With this system in place,
club owners can cut down on the time it takes for equipment repair. With both of these examples, as

The Pros And Versions Of Fairy Tales

Judgments of Conduct in Sense and Sensibility Essay
Sense and Sensibility is an elegant story that portrays the advantages of the first over the second, as
manifested between two sisters of opposing temperaments, one of whom loves wisely and the other
passionately. Set in London and its surrounding countryside, the story relates how Elinor, the eldest of
Mrs. Dashwood s daughters, and Marianne, the second eldest, share in the agony of tragic love. In the
opening of the book, Mrs. Dashwood and her three daughters are forced to move to a new and smaller
abode, as her husband s death left her fairly unwealthy.
During their transition, the Dashwood s stayed with her step son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. John

On the way home to Barton, Elinor, Marianne, and Mrs. Jennings, escorted by Colonel Brandon, made
a short stop at Cleveland. There, Marianne regressed and became quite ill and at the advice of a
doctor, was confined to her bed. Mrs. Dashwood was immediately summoned at the request of Elinor,
who could no longer stand alone under the pressure of Marianne s pain compounded with her own. To
her astonishment, while Elinor anxiously sat awaiting her mother s arrival, who should come to the

his tremendous guilt in the horrible thing he had done to Marianne and to ask for as much forgiveness
as they were willing to grant him. This act of courtesy softened the hearts of both Marianne, who had
already forgiven him, and Elinor.
Upon the arrival of Mrs. Dashwood at Cleveland, Marianne quickly grew strong again and they were
soon able to make their way back to Barton. As Elinor sat by the window one afternoon, she glanced
across the lawn and saw the figure of a man on horseback. He stopped at their gate and she thought
him to be Colonel Brandon, but soon she saw that it was noneother than Edward Ferrars, whom she

Heian Japan Influence
Heian Japan, which is commonly known as the golden age had many influences on Japan, but the
Kamakura Shogunate may have had more effects on Japan. During the golden age Prince Shotoku
brought Buddhism to Japan, but before that there were many confucian scholars. These two religions
went hand in hand in both the teachings and writings. Many of the Japanese ideas were collected from
Korea. Like China, Japan made an examination system, although it was actually more of a formality.
As the book The Asian World 600 1500 says, The nobles refused to accept the idea that they would
have to compete with commoners for government jobs and the highest positions continued to be

The kamakura are the group that ends up defeating the fujiwara in the rebellion. The first tribe that
does this makes two major mistakes. Firstly instead of reconstructing the government, she settles in
just as the fujiwara had done previously. The second mistake was that they did not kill all of the sons
of the other major clan. the sons of the other clan acts up as soon as they are old enough, and seize

Minamoto chased after his brother trying to kill him, but Yoshisune valued his brother s honor more so

French Influences In New Orleans
French concepts are all over America. Everyone who lives here experiences French elements in their
daily life. The root of these French influences come from when the French immigrated here hundreds
of years ago. The city with the most French influence is New Orleans. New Orleans adopted many
traditions and customs from the French. This is due to it once being France s territory. Even today,
New Orleans still has many French qualities, New Orleans was once France s territory. France owned
present day Louisiana, and sold it to America in 1803. Since then, New Orleans has become part of
America but kept many French elements. For example, the French Quarter is the main tourist

Robin Cook s Host
Robin Cook is bestselling author known for popularizing the genre of medical thrillers. Host is the
newest addition to his collection of over 40 books. Host is the modern update to Robin Cook s first

The opportunities to see into the personality of each character were instead replaced with recurring
details about the race of characters. Every time Michael the only african american character did
something stereotypical of his race it was followed by the same unnecessarily explanation of him

many russian characters. Everytime dialogue was said the accent was pointed out. A few chapters in
we had met these characters and could remember for yourself what race they were. With racism such a
relevant topic in the current media, i could not help but constantly be distracted but the stereotypes
Cook snuck into each page. Michael was never written about as a person but always an african

in the initial character development phase but it was so blatantly thrown in throughout the whole book
that it took away from how great of a character Michael Pender truly was. Michael was not the only
great character. The book had many great characters and storylines. It just took a large amount of
decoding to pull them out. The book was split into three parts, and by far the third part was the best
written. The sense of adventure and urgence finally shone through leaving readers on the edge of there

Market Timing and Capital Structure for Baker and Wurgler
Abstract
It is well known that firms are more likely to issue equity when their market values are high, relative
to book and past market values, and to repurchase equity when their market values are low. We
document that the resulting effects on capital structure are very persistent. As a consequence, current
capital structure is strongly related to historical market values. The results suggest the theory that
capital structure is the cumulative outcome of past attempts to time the equity market.
Introduction
Equity market timing refers to the practice of issuing shares at high prices and repurchasing shares at
low prices. Equity market timing appears to be an important aspect of real corporate financial policy.
In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The relevant historical variation in market valuations is measured by the external finance weighted
average market to book ratio. This variable takes high values for firms that raised external finance
when the market to book ratio was high and vice versa. The intuitive motivation for this weighting
scheme is that external financing events represent practical opportunities to change leverage. It
therefore gives more weight to valuations that prevailed when significant external financing decisions
were being made, whether those decisions ultimately went toward debt or equity. This weighted
average is better than a set of lagged market to book ratios because it picks out, for each firm,
precisely which lags (intervals) are likely to be the most relevant. Intuitively the weights correspond to
times when capital structure was most likely to be changed.
When firms go public, their capital structure reflects a number of factors, including market to book,
asset tangibility, size, and research and development intensity. As firms age, the cross section of
leverage is more and more explained by past financing opportunities, as determined by the market to
book ratio, and past opportunities to accumulate retained earnings, as determined by profitability.
Historical within firm variation in market to book, not current cross firm variation, is more

Compare And Contrast Lenore And The Raven
The Raven is a poem written by me, Edgar Allan Poe. It is one of my finest works, and I have been
told that it has been turned into short films. Both are supposed to be word for word. One is a Simpson
s version, and another is a short film by Peter Bradley. I have decided to review and criticize each one.
I will see how true they are to The Raven, how sufficient the acting is, the setting, and the delivery of
the lines, and then I will express my view on each film. The adaption by the Simpsons already has me
grimacing. How do they expect an audience to take my poem seriously when the lines are being
delivered by yellow actors who hardly resemble humans? The setting is decent, with a fireplace, the
bust of Pallas, and books, among other things, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the setting I only have one complaint, that it is slightly too bright. When the lines about the
curtains are said, they are not shown at all. The actor does not say the lines, but he does lip sync them,
which is at least lets you infer that he is saying the lines. When he opens the door, once again, there is
too much light. Another thing that infuriates me is their version of the raven. First off it doesn t go
straight to the bust of Pallas. In addition to this, the raven looks so fake that I bet I could have done a
much better job. Finally, when the raven says nevermore, it doesn t move its beak at all. Random
images begin to flash quickly at random, and I am puzzled as to their purpose. The background music
does a decent job of strengthening the mood. The actors mood matches the lines, improving their
effect. Then the actor throws something out the window, which is not a part of the

An Integral Location Within The Harry Potter Series By Jk...
Platform 9 ¾, an integral location within the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling, provides the focus for
the final third of this chapter. Initially, I analyse the site as a barrier to the tourist, before considering
its nature as a collectively read text, and finally I discuss the platform as a disregarded location within
the Harry Potter series. Located within the concourse of King s Cross station, a space which sees a
footfall of approximately 48 million individuals per year (Network Rail, n.d.), Platform 9 ¾ is one of
the most visible literary spaces within the United Kingdom, with replicas of the platform existing
internationally in sites as diverse as The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park in Orlando,
Florida through to the public railway station in Wellington, New Zealand. Driven by the perpetual
success of the Harry Potter series across a range of diverse media, these worldwide representations of
the platform offer tourists the opportunity to experience a simulacrum of the platform at King s Cross,
a site embodied with a primacy of location. This primacy, led through the primary evidence of the
texts and the visual authority providing by the locations used in the film, seems set to continue upon
the imminent cinematic release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) and the two part
play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (2016). Both the play and film continue the visual coding

Love and Lust in the Lyrics (Shakespeare s Sonnets)
A sonnet is a poem of fourteen lines that rhyme in a particular pattern. William Shakespeare s sonnets
were the only non dramatic poetry that he wrote. Shakespeare used sonnets within some of his plays,
but his sonnets are best known as a series of one hundred and fifty four poems. The series of one
hundred and fifty four poems tell a story about a young aristocrat and a mysterious mistress. Many
people have analyzed and contemplated about the significance of these lovers . After analysis of the
content of both the young man sonnets and the dark lady sonnets , it is clear that the poet,
Shakespeare, has a great love for the young man and only lusts after his mistress.
In order to fully understand the depth of emotion that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So the lover, the poet, treats the loved object, the young man, as he would himself. The loved object
serves as a substitute for some unattained ideal. In the case of the sonnets, the ideal is love. Being in
love allows the poet to have what he wants but could not acquire before and serves as a means of
satisfying his self love.
Joseph Pequigney, author of Such is My Love: A Study of Shakespeare s Sonnets, agrees with and
elaborates on Freud. He writes, All of these characteristics belong to the poet s love for the friend. It is
a love that pays handsome narcissistic dividends; it is advantageous also for the friend, who is praised
for personal qualities that would likely pass unnoticed were the poet not under the spell of his beauty.
Pequigney goes on to touch on the antithesis of the poet s love for the young man, his lust for his
mistress the dark lady . Because the mistress offers no self seeking advantages, she is disesteemed
with vice but never virtue ascribed to her (Pequigney 157). The poet attacks and questions her
physical attractiveness as the affair goes on and she arouses lust that comes and goes.
Sonnets 127 154 are addressed to the dark lady (hereafter the mistress). Shakespeare s relations to his
mistress vacillate; sometimes sanguine, tender, teasing, or bitterly anger; yet it is a simpler relation
than that

Federal Trade Commission And Dental Examiners
Introduction Last February, the Supreme Court issued its opinion in North Carolina State Board of
Dental Examiners v. Federal Trade Commission (Dental Examiners). The case concerned the Board s
decision to stop teeth whitening services by non dentists in the state. The Federal Trade Commission
alleged that the Board had violated antitrust laws by attempting to limit competition by its teeth
whitening decision. State entities such as the Board generally were thought to have immunity from
antitrust laws, but the Supreme Court s decision reversed this long held belief and found that state
boards could be held liability if certain conditions were met. The major condition was that the board
be made up of a majority of active market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, the second part will address how states have responded to Dental Examiners, and what Kansas
can do to address the decision.
Background
To be understand the Dental Examiners decision, it is important to understand the legal background
for the case. To do this, we first have to examine the broader area of law that surrounds antitrust
liability. Secondly, we need to examine the Parker doctrine, which creates antitrust immunity for
states. Finally, we need to look at Dental Examiners itself and its background.
Antitrust Liability A preliminary question is what is antirust liability? While there are other statutes,
the Sherman Antitrust Act is the signature law prohibiting antitrust activity. The act defines antitrust
activity as any restraint of trade or commerce. It also prevents persons from monopolizing or
attempting to monopolizing trade. The act is only concerned with restrains of trade that are
unreasonably restrictive of competitive conditions. A secondary requirement is that there be concerted
action, which requires more than unilateral behavior by individual actors. Examples of antitrust
violations include price fixing, allocations of territory or customers, and exclusive dealing agreements.
Antitrust laws can be enforced either through actions brought by

Essay About Sey Vanu
A fairytale for the young and the young of mind
Once upon a time a little girl lived in a small village on an island in the middle of a vast, vast ocean.
Her name was Sey Tu. Sey Tu was known on the island for her beautiful black hair and her inquisitive

Sey Tu lived in a small house with her father, mother, grandmother and her brother Vanu. The house
was located at the edge of the small village, near the beach. In the garden there were large palm trees
that would wave softly in the wind. The trees brought shade at day time and they waved in some cool

Grandmother burst out in tears after Sey Tu circled the island in half an hour. Sey Tu thought that she
had made her grandmother proud, and that these were happy tears. But no, these tears were the saddest
tears ever.
So it is happening , said grandmother and Sey Tu asked her what was happening.
Well , said grandmother, you know that we live on a small island in the middle of a vast ocean. The

Grandmother started explaining that on the world were many islands, even continents. That in all these

Today is the 10 year anniversary of the uprisings in East Berlin which started with the peaceful

Their protest against the increased work norms, the lack of consumer goods, high price of food and
low pension provisions took them to the Trade Union Head Quarters where they were swiftly joined

Germany dealt with the uprising was appropriate? The public were demanding to be listened to and it
seems as though they were only answered with violence.
Ulbricht: Violence was a necessary force at the time of the uprising. The mental pollution that had
been seeping in from the West was too toxic to not take severe action. We had to turn to the Soviet

western agencies to disrupt the national stability and legitimacy of the SED.
It was clear that the increasing influence the West was bringing to our people needed to stop and we
therefore had to ensure that the public understood the seriousness of going against the successful

Comparing Crime And Punishment And Raskolnikov s Crime
Rodion Raskolnikov and Sonya Marmeladova: like so many other pairs in the history of literature,
these two characters in Crime and Punishment act as two sides to a coin: one of them representing
purity, light, the goodness of humans, while the other wallowing in conflict and guilt. Though both
commit crimes, their intent behind them and their corresponding reactions are what separates them

Analysis Of The Book Alice s Adventures Essay
Alice s Adventures
AnnaMarie Bethune
Northeast Alabama Community College
Enraged from the recent conversation with her aunt and uncle, Alice storms out the door. Headed to
her usual spot beneath the old Willow near the edge of the forest, she runs full speed down the hill,
hopefully relieving some of her anger. As she stops at the edge of the forest, book in hand, now sitting,
she can t help but notice her veins flooding with adrenaline. She s so mad she can t sit still.
Alice jumps up and begins walking through the woods, at a rather fast pace, she suddenly stops at the
sound of an odd noise. Frozen, she slowly turns to see that there s a rather small cat staring up at her.
As she bends down to pet it, she sees another one, and another, until there are more than thirty cats
surrounding her. Unnerved, Alice sets off at a sprint, hurdling over the rotten log fallen across her
path. Finally, she s outrun them. Alice stops as she comes to a clearing almost tripping over
something. Searching for what she has stumbled into, she sees a glimpse of royal blue covered in thick
layers of weeds and vines. Hastily pulling the vines from their tangled chaos, Alice finally reveals an
old pot . Appeared to be worn and rusting, blue paint chipping, the once gold flowers now brown,
Alice notices a large ceramic plate fitted to the top of the pot. Afraid but curious, she slowly lifts the
side. Not moved for so long, the plate was stuck to the top of the pot. Not only

World War 1 Essay
In today s digital age, development of new technology and weapons are at an alarming rate, hence
arises the need to stay ahead of advancements in order to properly defend the nation, as well as
coalition forces and allies. In this period of warfare, the number one threat comes in the form of air
breathing and ballistic missiles. During World War II, this threat was present, but was not thought to
be prevalent. Following World War I, and into the beginning of World War II, the United States of
America was still recuperating from the first war, and therefore did not engage. The focus was
reestablishing the military in the form of personnel and equipment. It was becoming evident that the
forward shift in technology was forcing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, the officer on duty ignored the warning. Had he not, the attack on Pearl Harbor could
have been less severe, if not countered completely. In addition, the task of almost the entirety of the air
defense of Pearl Harbor fell upon the United States Navy and the United States Air Corp, despite the
16th Coast Artillery Regiment having eighty two 3 inch anti aircraft guns, twenty 37 mm anti aircraft
guns, and one hundred and nine .50 caliber anti aircraft machine guns. The Army Air Corp s P 36 and
P 40 pursuit planes were the main deterrent to enemy aircraft, unfortunately, this was the target of the
Japanese Naval Fleet (Anti aircraft). At the end of the attack, only a few P 36 s were able to escape the
barrage of bullets and bombs, and managed to destroy ten of the Japanese Zero s, while the 16th Coast
Artillery Regiment brought down six. Ironically, four years prior, in June of 1937, the United States
War Department began drafting a plan to increase the continental anti aircraft artillery due to rising
tensions with Japan, yet was not approved until late 1940. The plan called for increasing the number
of 3 inch guns from 135 to 472, as well as increasing the number of regiments to 80, which would
account for roughly 4,000,000 service men, solely for the defense of the continental United States.

Marco Polo- An Exploratory Essay
Many children, including myself, have once played the game Marco Polo. Although, I have always
been curious, who exactly is Marco Polo? My fascination of Marco Polo warped into a fixation of his
travels. Marco Polo was born in Venice in the year 1254. His father, Nicolo, and his uncle, Maffeo,
were merchants who had seats in the great nobleman council of Venice (Polo IV). According to his
records, he had traveled thousands of miles with his father and uncle. Marco, Nicolo and Maffeo
(known as the Polos) left Venice, and did not return for twenty six years. Upon their return, they were
not welcomed in Venice. The Polos were long thought to have been dead. When they arrived in
Venice, their clothes were old and worn out; the things that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He called this city the City of Heaven (Freedman 41); Marcos wrote, It is without a doubt the finest
and most splendid city in the world (Freedman 41). However, Marco Polo s last stop was in China, a
place so different and interesting compared to his own; he spent the majority of his time there. After
about a three and a half year journey, Marco noted that the Polos arrived in the court of Kublai Khan,
the conqueror of China. The Great Khan ruled a vast empire of prosperous cities that had richer goods,
services, and technology than any place in Europe that Marco had ever seen (Freedman 6). Kublai
Khan was the grandson of the infamous Genghis Khan, the fearless Mongol who swept across Asia
and the Middle East generations earlier. When the Polos arrived in Shangdu (the capitol of Kublai
Khan s empire), the Mongol empire stretched from China, to Russia and Iraq; the empire was at the
pinnacle of its existence (Polo 26). Marco stated that he soon rose to a position of power in Kublai
Khan s court, because Mublai Khan was pleased by Marco s knowledge and logic. Marco endeavored
on confidential missions to learn about all kinds of different matters in the countries he visited, in
order to satisfy the curiosity of the Great Khan (Hart 35). The Polos accumulated great wealth in
jewels and gold, thanks to the generosity of Kublai Khan; however, they eventually grew homesick

The History of Walmart
To know understand Walmart as a company, you need to start where it began. Walmart was started by
Sam Walton in 1962 in Bentonville, Arkansas; the building still exists as a museum. When Mr. Walton
started Walmart he said, he believed in leadership through service (Walmart,2014). He wanted to have
a company that would succeed and provide exceptional customer services while his company
delivered a price that people could afford. The company employed people who surpassed in customer
services. Customer services was not Sam Walton s only vision for his company. He wanted his
employees to be happy. He started an open door policy, this policy states that if an employee has an
issue with any coworker, assistant manager or manager, the door is open to speak to another manager
about it. When I worked at Walmart it was a very helpful policy when I was having a personal issue
with my department manager. Sam Walton wanted his employees to enjoy time with their families so
he would close Walmart on holidays for family time and employees who worked on Sunday s got paid
time and half (Walmart,2014). Sadly Mr. Sam died in 1992 leaving his company s legacy to others.
Sam Walton s humble store grew into a worldwide corporation and changed some of his visions.
Walmart currently employees 22,000,000 people in 27 different countries. (Walmart, 2014). Walmart

Some studies have reported that adolescents use popular music to deal with loneliness and to take
control of their emotional status or mood, (Impact of Music, Music Lyrics, and Music Videos on

music. Mildred rarely took out her seashells out of her ears, she was always listening to the music.
Children are also showing signs of relying on music to pass the time and hide their negative feelings
about life or the hard situations that they may find themselves in. A study with 100 fourth through
sixth graders revealed that 98% of these children listened to popular music, 72% of them on most days

average of 1 hour per day, (Impact of Music, Music Lyrics, and Music Videos on Children and Youth).
This takes away from the time they could spend with their families, friends, or other jobs they are
responsible for. Mildred is known for not spending time on a variety of activities, she mainly just
listens to music and watches the parlor walls. Music seems to have a significant effect on the variety
of activities the person participates in; children and young people nowadays seem to

Alfred Hitchcock s True Sense Essay
There is a certain familiarity yet suspense while watching an Alfred Hitchcock movie. In true sense
Alfred Hitchcock was an Auteur. Alfred Hitchcock was a film director and producer, who at times was
also referred to as The Master of Suspense . He pioneered many elements of the suspense and
psychological thriller genres. He had a successful career in British cinema with both silent films and
early talkies and became renowned as England s best director. Hitchcock moved to Hollywood in
1939 and became a US citizen in 1955. The following essay, will, using the example of Alfred
Hitchcock, discuss critically the contribution of the director to the patterns of themes and style in a
group of films.
Images of staircases often play a central role in Hitchcock s films. In Vertigo, the staircase in the
church bell tower plays a crucial role in the plot. Scottie has Vertigo, and is afraid of heights. The
staircase in Vertigo play s 2 important roles in the movie; once when Scottie tries to climb the stairs
after Madeline, but is unable to do so, and hears a scream. He assumes that Madeleine has committed
suicide [01:16:30] and once again in the end when he leads Judy aka Madeleine up the same stairs and
is finally able to concur his fear of vertigo [02:02:15]. In Psycho, several staircases are featured
prominently: as part of the path up to the Bates mansion, as the entrance to the fruit cellar, and as the
site of Detective Arbogast s murder. In The Birds, the camera follows

Reflection About Masculinity Of Sex
I ve come to identify with the masculinity of my gender and establish my sexual orientation as a
hetereosexual individual during the earlier stages of my life. Because my older siblings, not to
mention my parents, would discuss their sexual experiences in my presence, my curiosity was peaked.
Thus, I began to explore my sexuality. During my pre teenage years, I had already engaged in
numerous sex related acts. In comparison to the typical 7 year old boy, I would have to say my mind
developed at a much faster rate growing up. Through pornographic films and self stimulation, my
knowledge of sex expanded exponentially. I was 7 when i first grabbed a woman s ass. As I watched
Mrs. Miller, my second grade teacher, lecture the class in her tight, little skirt, I experienced my first
boner during class. Despite the obvious differences in age and stature, I fantasized about fucking her
every class session. Because my sexual craving for Mrs. Miller was so intense, I disregarded all
possible consequences in one class session and firmly squeezed her fat ass. As expected, I was scolded
and instructed to never do it again. Although the school, as well as my parents, essentially forbid me
from exploring my sexuality, I secretly disobeyed them. I browsed through countless porn sites.
Depending on the day, I searched for either busty MILFS or blonde lesbians. From that moment on, I
had wet dreams roughly every other night. However, since these thoughts and actions were considered
shameful

Good Vs. Evil In Beowulf
In the story Beowulf, there are a lot of conflicts that takes place. This causes a few themes to appear in
the story, one of them, good vs evil. Every character is different. Some are good and some are bad. In
Beowulf you have two main heroes and a few demons and monsters. In my essay I will show how all
the characters represent good vs evil. Like I said earlier there are only 2 characters that represent good.
The main character Beowulf obviously is one of them. He s a hero and everyone looks up to him.
Beowulf chooses his battles. He fights with demons and monsters at the right time. The other
character that represents good is Wiglaf. Beowulf and Wiglaf are the only characters who fight for and

Papers On The Moonstone
When reading The Moonstone, written by Wilkie Collins, I found myself asking the same question
over and over again. What are these characters hiding? That is a key element to a mystery that Collins
does magnificently. It is said that The Moonstone is the first true detective novel in the English
language. The premise of the mystery is circled around a diamond. A diamond that is cursed and has a
history of being stolen. This priceless gem is given to Rachel Verinder at her 18th birthday party. That
same night it goes missing and the next morning the household is in disarray. The First Period is a
narrative of how the events took place by Gabriel Betteredge, the house steward of Lady Verinder,
Rachel s mother. Betteredge has been working and loyal to Lady Verinder and the household for as
long as he has been alive. He treats the family like his own family. His daughter Penelope is Rachel s
maid and is just as loyal as her father. They keep record of what happened in the house and the main
events that will hopefully lead up to the finding of this missing gem. In the prologue, there is a
description of the mighty jewel, which roots trace back to India. Here, the diamond is sacred and to
the Hindu, it belonged to the God of the Moon. John Herncastle, uncle of Rachel and brother to Lady
Verinder, was in the British Army and entranced by the tale of the gem. He killed three Brahmin
priests who were guarding the stone just to retrieve it. He then brought it back home with him.

Cpr Reform
With an increasing number of people attending CPR classes, many of them wonder about whether
they can be held liable if a person they help receives injuries from emergency medical care. It is
certainly a plausible concern, as broken ribs are a common occurrence. Anytime CPR is performed,
there is essentially a 50/50 chance that it will result in a broken bone. Why Do Broken Bones Happen?
The very nature of CPR creates conditions that are favorable to the development of broken ribs. The
rescuer has to place the heel of his hand on the victim s chest and press down at least two inches thirty
times for each round of chest compressions. That comes out to about a hundred compressions per
minute. Not surprisingly, broken ribs can be expected. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
has Good Samaritan laws in place. The specifics may vary a bit depending on what state hears the
case, but the basic general protections are all the same. No one who offers emergency care in good
faith can be held legally liable for any physical injuries or other damages that occur because of their
actions. It is worth noting that a few states have a narrower view and only apply these laws to medical
professionals, thereby excluding volunteers. Most states also exclude blatant willful or negligent
misconduct from legal protection. Gross Negligence A lawsuit against a rescuer who performed CPR
and broke a few ribs will only hold up in court if gross negligence can be proven. Something must
have been done right if the victim is alive to complain about the injury, so it will be very difficult to
demonstrate negligent behavior on the part of the rescuer, even if he or she has no formal training. On
that note, there has never been a successful lawsuit against a rescuer performing CPR that resulted in
broken ribs. If it is discovered that the victim does not wish to have CPR in the event of an emergency,
his wishes should be respected. Otherwise, as long as the rescuer s actions are reasonable in the
circumstances, there is generally no reason to fear a lawsuit if a victim is injured during

Medusa
The myth of Medusa is one of the most told myths throughout history. It seems like a simple idea of
how society perceives ugliness. The myth may be saying that truly hideous people deserved the
monstrous things that are coming to them, yet there is more to the story and image of this woman.
People have to look into what happened to her that society perceives her as hideous.Society has to
think about whose fault was it for her becoming a monster. People should look into the true meaning
of Medusa. Medusa has a strong impact on Greek society mythology too? with her features, the colors

There are some images that one can use to show Medusa, so it depends on what one wants to talk
about. The image I picked is of Medusa s head cut off on a shield (Gill, N.S.). The problem here is that
Medusa does not look that ugly. In most pictures, Medusa just looks like a beautiful woman who has
snake for her hair. It seems strange that society and history remember her as ugly. One reason is
because of the snakes in her hair. Images show that her hair is full of many snakes. On her head, is
looks to be multiple kinds of snake. Some snakes look to be dice snakes, Natrix Tessellate, which are
venomous snakes found in Europe (McLaren, John). People hate snakes and fear them. In many
cultures such as Christianity, snakes are evil. Satan took the form of one in the Garden of Eve to
seduce Adam and Eve to commit sin. It works and mankind is driven out of the Garden forever ( Are
snakes evil? Does the Bible say anything about snakes? ). The image of a snake makes many shiver in
fear of it. Most of the Greek myths show snakes in a distrustful manner. Most of Ancient Greek
believed that snakes were liars and intelligent, but not to trust them.
Medusa is an important goddess used a lot in Greek female myths. In Greek myths, her hair which is
of snakes can show the symbolism of snakes. Snakes were said to have shown the natural cycle of
birth, death, and rebirth. In Greek myths the shedding of their skins and by getting new skin it shows

A Story From A Old Wedding Gown
After trying on a mysterious old wedding gown, a spirited, but insecure dressmaker is transported to
1935 Wales, where she becomes the dressmaker for her great grandmother, and now she must find her
way back home.
STORY COMMENTS
MAGICALLY WED offers a delightful fantasy. The concept is solid. The script presents as a fun and
classic fish out of water and coming of age story.
The idea of an insecure, but hopeful wedding dress designer from the present being transported back
in time to 1935 to become a dressmaker s assistant to her own great grandmother is a creative and
imaginative idea.
The plot is driven by strong themes about finding one s voice and believing in one s self. It s also
about connecting, reconnecting, and family values.
One of the highlights is the very likable protagonist, Ava. She s the type of character that s easy to like
and effortlessly root for. Through the course of her personal journey, she learns to grow up and
transforms into a mature woman. She also finds her own voice.
Ava is driven by her deep inner conflict to belong to a loving family.
While there s a lot to adore about this fun script, overall, the script would benefit from more
development, especially in the areas of structure, some plot choices, and dialogue.
First, the script has an identified three act structure. The first act sets up Ava s ordinary world. Her
aunt belittles her and she doesn t have the confidence to stand up for herself. She has a dream and goal

An Analysis of Representation of Masculinity in Music...
An analysis of representation of masculinity in music magazines, with particular reference to Kerrang

Representation is the construction and aspects of reality in any medium, especially mass media. It can
be presented in speech, writing, still and moving pictures. For my research investigation I will be
analysing the representation of masculinity in music magazines, and will do this by studying the codes
and conventions that cause the representation of masculinity ion two magazines. These magazines are

This large and bold text catches the eye of the audience and will therefore be the first thing that people
will recognise the magazine by. In addition to this, the strap lines, placed variously around the main
image, allow the audience to gain more information about the issue and its content. An example of this
would be Tom Clark VS. Faris Rotter which grabs the audience s attention and the fact that the names
are of two men gains the appeal of men as they can immediately relate to them. By using the word VS
also gives the impression of fighting and violence, which is known to be a very masculine tendency as
it relates to dominance and control, two things men aspire to become. The Marxist concept of
hegemonic masculinity states that the man should have; Physical force and control, occupational
achievement, familial patriarchy, frontiersman ship and heterosexuality .
NME is very powerful and well known in the music industry, especially the indie genre of it, Indie
(independent) guitar rock is a post punk subgenre of independent or alternative rock, featuring mainly
white, male groups playing mainly electric guitars, bass and drums these present what can be seen as

America s Competitive Advantage
I ve always been a calm and collective individual, favoring the slow and calculated approach to
problem solving, assuring the problem is achieved to maximum success. As such, I m the kind of
person to try everything first hand, in order to find out the true best way in order to accomplish a task,
despite what a guide may say. However, I also have the intelligence to do so in a productive way. They
say you shouldn t reinvent the wheel, and to build upon others success, at some point someone tried
just that, and was able to create a better wheel. At the end of the day, it is still a wheel, but it s this
innovation that drives the world forward. I m an innovator. I ll be the guy trying the thing no one
thought of, using some method someone dismissed as xp waste and still be able to put some spin on it
in order to create something that is better than everything else. ... Show more content on

in an effort to test my development as a gamer, I often find myself booting up old consoles and

often in games that I have revisited on numerous occasions over the course of my life, These

World War One and The Middle East Essays
Introduction Over the course of human history, wars have always created, destroyed or enveloped
nations, states or empires. Examples of these include the Final War of the Roman Republic, which
culminated with the Battle of Actium in 31 BCE, to the Franco Prussian War of 1871 which created a
unified German state. However, World War One is known to have had the greatest impact on human
civilization. It dragged in almost every continent into the conflict, halted global trade, led to the
demolition of four empires, and gave nationalism everywhere a boost. One interesting factor about the
First World War is the extent to which it had a tremendous impact on the Middle East. Many
westerners today would only remember it by reading Erich Maria ... Show more content on

The link to the Middle East was bridged when the Ottoman Empire decided to join the Central
Powers. Their reasoning behind this decision emanated from the fact that the Germans were seen as
guaranteed victors since they were already the most industrialized state in Europe, had the experience
of defeating France in 1871, and could move troops and equipment quickly where needed via their
vast railway network. Another second factor was the proximity of Russia and the ambitions of the
Austrians in the Balkans. Regarding the Allies, they assumed that the war would be quick and decisive
just as the Central Powers assumed as well (Implementation of the Schlieffen Plan) and had no need
for an alliance with the Ottomans but they did inhibit plans to distribute the Ottoman provinces when
the war was over amongst themselves. However, they suffered a series of setbacks. By the fall of
1914, the British, French and Germans were all bogged down in trench warfare in Belgium and
France. Furthermore in 1915, the Allies, in an attempt to alleviate the burden of fighting on the
Western Front, decided to land troops in Gallipoli with the objective of knocking the Ottomans out
from the war. The campaign ended in disaster. As a result of this failure, the British decided to
establish contact with Sharif Husayn, caretaker of Mecca and of the Banu Hashim clan, with the
promise of supporting him in the creation of an Arab

Argumentative Essay On Liberal Arts Colleges
Recently, the job market has been very competitive especially for students straight out of college,
however students with a liberal arts background have a greater advantage as they are more appealing
to employers. There are hundreds of liberal arts colleges in the United States, however they are often
overlooked due to false perceptions regarding price. Liberal arts schools prepare students for the real
world by providing a well rounded education, smaller class sizes that allow for more individualized
learning, and a unique college experience. Liberal arts schools aim to provide students with a wide
variety of knowledge instead of requiring them to specialize as freshman. General education classes
help set students up for a successful career path. By not specializing in a specific field taking general
education classes it allows students to see the different potential career fields. For example,

Connections can open doors for anyone. Students are often taught to build their professional network
early, however students on smaller campuses can do this easier than others. Unlike others studying at
big schools, students at a liberal arts college know the majority of people on their campus. It is very
common for students at a small institution to recognize someone from a class, sports team, greek
group, or dorm walking around campus. Having a small campus allows students to quickly grow their
professional network starting from the day they set foot on campus. While building connections with
those on campus is important alumni are significant as well. For example, a small community such as
Heidelberg University is able to connect their current students with alumni all over in order to create
endless opportunities. This unique college experience can only be found at liberal arts

Underage Drinking Research Topics
With an emphasis on underage drinking, the task has encouraged the researcher to conduct research on
the topic in depth as well as the consequences both parents and children can face when underage
drinking occurs. From this interest and an obvious issue in the wider society, the hypothesis Parents
accept underage drinking as a norm in our society has been crafted. The research project should allow
the researcher with new understandings and also provide subjects involved with them too. Through
both primary research methodologies including a questionnaire and interview, and secondary research
methods i.e. literature review the researcher will gain an in depth perception about why underage
drinking has become a norm in our society and some of the consequences that parents are unaware of
when they are providing alcohol for their children. The researchers overall primary aim is to determine
whether or not this hypothesis is accurate. The focus of the project clearly sits under these Headings in

Primary data is the information you collect by conducting your own research i.e. first hand
information, which is direct from the source. An example is an oral interview, which will be conducted
where the researcher asks the individual questions. An oral interview is an example of qualitative
information which means which means that they allow the researcher to gather people s opinions and
ideas in relation to their hypothesis. In addition, another example of Primary data would be the
distribution of a questionnaire where the researcher hands out written questions to the individual,
expecting a response. This type of information can be known as a quantitative methodology, which
means that this type of methodology allows the researcher to gather numerical or statistical data in

A Summary On The Business Industry
5 Fascinating Movies About Entrepreneurs
Entrepreneurs are the flavour of the year and today everyone is either one or on the way to becoming
one. Fueled by the drive to earn more than what most jobs can give, rock star like adulation achieved
by those who make it, and with success stories that run into billions of dollars, being an entrepreneur
is the new black. In fact those of us who are 30 plus would still remember that just two to three
decades back, being an entrepreneur, especially if you were male, meant that you were either morally
bankrupt or worse stupid, and either of which, by the way, substantially brought down your value in
the marriage market.
But times are a changing, the days ahead are heady, and for those who have or are planning to take the
plunge, here are five films that are worth watching. They are not just inspiring, you might even pick
up a few business and even life lessons in the process.
Tom Cruise plays the title role in Jerry Maguire (1996), and works for a sports management company
as their star agent. He is fired when he writes and circulates a memo pointing out the wrongs of their
business. It is then that he decides to build from scratch a business based on his newly discovered
philosophy. And in that he has the support of just one athlete, Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and one
employee, played by Renée Zellweger. Jerry realizes it is easier said than done, learns a lot along the
journey, and teaches us a few things:

Music Appreciation Essay
This was the day I had been dreading. I was participating in the Seattle Young Artists Music Festival,
an event where students share their music with a small class and receive a lesson from the teacher. My
violin teacher and my parents decided that this event would develop my musical skills, so they
registered me with enthusiasm. I, on the other hand, was not so enthusiastic. I had never honestly
enjoyed performing in the past and I was especially nervous about this event knowing that I would
receive a music lesson from an expert violinist after my performance. It did not help to hear stories of
strict, criticizing, and rude teachers from my siblings who had previously done this event either. I
wondered how any good could come from this event. Though only flippantly, I even considered what
would happen if I pretended to be ill or purposely injured my finger. However, before I knew it, the
dreadful day arrived and I realized I would just have to go for it.
I woke up before the sun and groggily prepared to leave. My Mom and my two siblings, Amy and
Aaron, got ready to leave too since Aaron was also performing and Mom and Amy would be
accompanying both of us on the piano. While it was still dark, we boarded a ferry headed for Seattle

Trembling, I began my first piece, Romance in G by Beethoven, and she quickly began to jot down
comments. After I had finished my three pieces, my teacher exclaimed, Bravo! and everyone gave a
loud applause. She proceeded to give me encouraging feedback as well as ways I could improve my
technique. Surprisingly, the lesson seemed to pass quickly and when it had ended, I received a sheet of
paper with my teacher s written comments and signature. At the bottom of the paper, I noted my
teacher s signature, Mimi Zweig, but did not think much of it. Breathing a sigh of relief, I went back
to my seat. That was not as bad as I expected, I thought to

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Abortion By Rabbi David Novak
To begin it is important to understand halakha which is the jewish law that governs the status of an
unborn fetus and whether or not abortion can occur. First off I will be discussing Rabbi David Novak
from University of Toronto s, short paper titled Abortion , in this article Rabbi David Novak takes a
neutral stance and states that there are two sides to the argument of abortion in Judaism. Rabbi David
Novak starts by stating that the most common belief in modern Judaism is as follows , On one side are
those who see the fetus as a human within a human (Sanhedrin 57b, re Genesis 9:6). On the other side
are those who regard the child as a human person only after it emerges from the womb (Rashi on
Sanhedrin 72b, re Ohalot 7.6); before that, it is simply a part of the mother s body. (Novak). ... Show

Traditionally, Jewish belief is considered to be a pro life stance, which is not to argue that a Jew must
actively support the pro life movement just that it is the basis of their core belief system. The problem
with Judaism identifying with pro choice though is that the pro choice movement is for the most part
based on Human ownership of the human body, an idea that directly contradicts the Jewish dogma that
everything belongs to God men s bodies, women s bodies, anyone s body (Ezekiel 18:4). (Novak).
Another issue with abortion in Judaism is that it gives significant legal and moral room to the mother
and those around her, allowing justification for abortion on a case by case basis as well as the fact that
rabbis have never regulated abortion within the Jewish population. In the Talmud it is said that that
only physically present infants are considered to be legal persons but there are only specific cases
where abortion or killing of the child is considered to be

  • 2. Collective Bargaining Executive Summary Chapter 13 details the mechanisms by which the NLRB determines whether a union will represent a company s employees for the purposes of collective bargaining. Represented employees within a collective bargaining unit elect representatives of the specific bargaining unit to serve as the exclusive representatives of said employees within the respective bargaining unit. While elections are common, the NLRA does not require that a collective bargaining unit hold an election. Representatives can be chosen through voluntary recognition as long as the representative has majority support of the collective bargaining unit. Beyond that, the position of the union as the exclusive bargaining agent supersedes any individual contracts of employment made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Section 9(b) of the NLRA provides that the definition of an appropriate bargaining unit is a matter left to the Board s discretion. The unit cannot contain both professional employees and non professional employees, unless a majority of the professional employees have voted to be included in the unit. A craft unit cannot be found to be inappropriate simply on the ground that a different unit was established by a previous Board determination, unless a majority of the employees in the proposed craft unit vote against representation in such a separate craft unit. • 4. Sex Offenders Against Children are an Epidemic Overrunning... With the creation of computers and Internet, high tech crimes are occurring more frequently than few decades ago. According to a report made by the U.S. Department of Justice; one in five children (10 to 17 years old) receives unwanted sexual solicitations online (Knetzger Muraski, 2008). One of this online sex crime against children is known as child enticement. The Florida statute 847.0135 states that an individual is involved in online child enticement when [...] utilizes a computer on line service, Internet service, or [...] to seduce, solicit, lure, or entice, or attempt to [...] a child or another person believed by a person to be a child to commit any illegal act [...] relating to sexual battery [...] (Knetzger Muraski, 2008). Therefore, online sex crime investigators must use the appropriate protocols during an investigation to avoid a lawful criminal defense based on law enforcement entrapment. One of the best approaches to identify, prosecute, and arrest on line sex offenders (i.e. pedophiles) is to be actively engage in the online chat rooms (i.e. online enticement sting). In here, high tech crime investigators must follow up a protocol. First, he/she must create an identity to look like an underage individual. Technological Model Of The Technological Environment Technological Factor Based on the model of the technological environment, there are three dimensions to conceptualize the changes in industries, technology, process, and impetus. New technologies have had an enormous impact across all aspects of the fitness industry, all the way from marketing and payment transactions to biometric evaluation. New technology is often synonymous with advances in science more specifically, computer science. This is a logical assumption given that we live in a digital era. However, technology has a scope that extends beyond the constraints of the computer. Within general definitions, technology encompasses the practical application of knowledge to design and implement systems that help solve human problems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Creating a safe workout environment for members goes hand in hand with personal comfort. Advances in green, environmentally friendly products, such as low VOC paints and high efficiency HVAC systems, have allowed gym owners to incorporate these into their design while enhancing their members experiences. Research on the feasibility in terms of design capacity and cost effectiveness of these systems is the first step in the implementation process. As for the process perspective, streamlining efficiency is an important factor from an operational standpoint. Advances in such things as web and software based entry systems/membership programs and the popularity of the Internet have led to a new digital era. Now, virtually every form within the fitness center can be offered digitally. Other factors affecting the front desk/check in process include such things as the rise in popularity of digital locker locks. Nowadays, the large amount of space dedicated to key cards and member files has been replaced by a single computer terminal. Another example of technology streamlining efficiency is the rise of asset management software built into some of the new cardiovascular equipment. This software flags equipment malfunctions by sending a service needed message to the appropriate party via the Internet. With this system in place, club owners can cut down on the time it takes for equipment repair. With both of these examples, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Market Timing and Capital Structure for Baker and Wurgler Abstract It is well known that firms are more likely to issue equity when their market values are high, relative to book and past market values, and to repurchase equity when their market values are low. We document that the resulting effects on capital structure are very persistent. As a consequence, current capital structure is strongly related to historical market values. The results suggest the theory that capital structure is the cumulative outcome of past attempts to time the equity market. Introduction Equity market timing refers to the practice of issuing shares at high prices and repurchasing shares at low prices. Equity market timing appears to be an important aspect of real corporate financial policy. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The relevant historical variation in market valuations is measured by the external finance weighted average market to book ratio. This variable takes high values for firms that raised external finance when the market to book ratio was high and vice versa. The intuitive motivation for this weighting scheme is that external financing events represent practical opportunities to change leverage. It therefore gives more weight to valuations that prevailed when significant external financing decisions were being made, whether those decisions ultimately went toward debt or equity. This weighted average is better than a set of lagged market to book ratios because it picks out, for each firm, precisely which lags (intervals) are likely to be the most relevant. Intuitively the weights correspond to times when capital structure was most likely to be changed. When firms go public, their capital structure reflects a number of factors, including market to book, asset tangibility, size, and research and development intensity. As firms age, the cross section of leverage is more and more explained by past financing opportunities, as determined by the market to book ratio, and past opportunities to accumulate retained earnings, as determined by profitability. I will see how true they are to The Raven, how sufficient the acting is, the setting, and the delivery of the lines, and then I will express my view on each film. Another thing that infuriates me is their version of the raven. First off it doesn t go straight to the bust of Pallas. In addition to this, the raven looks so fake that I bet I could have done a much better job. Finally, when the raven says nevermore, it doesn t move its beak at all. Platform 9 ¾, an integral location within the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling, provides the focus for the final third of this chapter. Initially, I analyse the site as a barrier to the tourist, before considering its nature as a collectively read text, and finally I discuss the platform as a disregarded location within the Harry Potter series. Located within the concourse of King s Cross station, a space which sees a footfall of approximately 48 million individuals per year (Network Rail, n.d.), Platform 9 ¾ is one of the most visible literary spaces within the United Kingdom, with replicas of the platform existing internationally in sites as diverse as The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park in Orlando, Florida through to the public railway station in Wellington, New Zealand. Driven by the perpetual success of the Harry Potter series across a range of diverse media, these worldwide representations of the platform offer tourists the opportunity to experience a simulacrum of the platform at King s Cross, a site embodied with a primacy of location. This primacy, led through the primary evidence of the texts and the visual authority providing by the locations used in the film, seems set to continue upon the imminent cinematic release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) and the two part play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (2016). The series of one hundred and fifty four poems tell a story about a young aristocrat and a mysterious mistress. Many people have analyzed and contemplated about the significance of these lovers . The loved object serves as a substitute for some unattained ideal. In the case of the sonnets, the ideal is love. Being in love allows the poet to have what he wants but could not acquire before and serves as a means of satisfying his self love. Joseph Pequigney, author of Such is My Love: A Study of Shakespeare s Sonnets, agrees with and elaborates on Freud. He writes, All of these characteristics belong to the poet s love for the friend. It is a love that pays handsome narcissistic dividends; it is advantageous also for the friend, who is praised for personal qualities that would likely pass unnoticed were the poet not under the spell of his beauty. Pequigney goes on to touch on the antithesis of the poet s love for the young man, his lust for his mistress the dark lady . Because the mistress offers no self seeking advantages, she is disesteemed with vice but never virtue ascribed to her (Pequigney 157). The poet attacks and questions her physical attractiveness as the affair goes on and she arouses lust that comes and goes. Sonnets 127 154 are addressed to the dark lady (hereafter the mistress). Finally, the second part will address how states have responded to Dental Examiners, and what Kansas can do to address the decision. Background To be understand the Dental Examiners decision, it is important to understand the legal background for the case. Finally, we need to look at Dental Examiners itself and its background. Antitrust Liability A preliminary question is what is antirust liability? While there are other statutes, the Sherman Antitrust Act is the signature law prohibiting antitrust activity. The act defines antitrust activity as any restraint of trade or commerce. It also prevents persons from monopolizing or attempting to monopolizing trade. The act is only concerned with restrains of trade that are unreasonably restrictive of competitive conditions. A secondary requirement is that there be concerted action, which requires more than unilateral behavior by individual actors. Examples of antitrust violations include price fixing, allocations of territory or customers, and exclusive dealing agreements. Antitrust laws can be enforced either through actions brought by ... Their protest against the increased work norms, the lack of consumer goods, high price of food and low pension provisions took them to the Trade Union Head Quarters where they were swiftly joined by others. The protest quickly became a political one, but when not a single high ranking SED member came out to reason with the crowd, it moved on to the Haus der Ministerien, where the protesters reported contradictory messages. Walter, do you believe that the way in which East Germany dealt with the uprising was appropriate? The public were demanding to be listened to and it seems as though they were only answered with violence. Ulbricht: Violence was a necessary force at the time of the uprising. The mental pollution that had been seeping in from the West was too toxic to not take severe action. We had to turn to the Soviet Union for military support. In total, around 16 Soviet divisions with 20,000 soldiers as well as 8,000 Kasernierte Volkspolizei members were used to stop the Uprising and show the people of East Germany that they had no reason to be so disheartened by the government, despite the attempts by western agencies to disrupt the national stability and legitimacy of the SED. It was clear that the increasing influence the West was bringing to our people needed to stop and we therefore had to ensure that the public understood the seriousness of going against the successful politics of the GDR. Comparing Crime And Punishment And Raskolnikov s Crime Rodion Raskolnikov and Sonya Marmeladova: like so many other pairs in the history of literature, these two characters in Crime and Punishment act as two sides to a coin: one of them representing purity, light, the goodness of humans, while the other wallowing in conflict and guilt. Though both commit crimes, their intent behind them and their corresponding reactions are what separates them and, consequently, saves them. Sonya s piety and virtue relieves Raskolnikov of his suffering and in turn, demonstrates the importance of such qualities, and the significance of emotion to the us as humans. As she stops at the edge of the forest, book in hand, now sitting, she can t help but notice her veins flooding with adrenaline. She s so mad she can t sit still. Alice jumps up and begins walking through the woods, at a rather fast pace, she suddenly stops at the sound of an odd noise. Frozen, she slowly turns to see that there s a rather small cat staring up at her. As she bends down to pet it, she sees another one, and another, until there are more than thirty cats surrounding her. Unnerved, Alice sets off at a sprint, hurdling over the rotten log fallen across her path. Finally, she s outrun them. Alice stops as she comes to a clearing almost tripping over something. Searching for what she has stumbled into, she sees a glimpse of royal blue covered in thick layers of weeds and vines. World War 1 Essay In today s digital age, development of new technology and weapons are at an alarming rate, hence arises the need to stay ahead of advancements in order to properly defend the nation, as well as coalition forces and allies. In this period of warfare, the number one threat comes in the form of air breathing and ballistic missiles. During World War II, this threat was present, but was not thought to be prevalent. Following World War I, and into the beginning of World War II, the United States of America was still recuperating from the first war, and therefore did not engage. At the end of the attack, only a few P 36 s were able to escape the barrage of bullets and bombs, and managed to destroy ten of the Japanese Zero s, while the 16th Coast Artillery Regiment brought down six. Ironically, four years prior, in June of 1937, the United States War Department began drafting a plan to increase the continental anti aircraft artillery due to rising tensions with Japan, yet was not approved until late 1940. The plan called for increasing the number of 3 inch guns from 135 to 472, as well as increasing the number of regiments to 80, which would account for roughly 4,000,000 service men, solely for the defense of the continental United States. My fascination of Marco Polo warped into a fixation of his travels. Marco Polo was born in Venice in the year 1254. His father, Nicolo, and his uncle, Maffeo, were merchants who had seats in the great nobleman council of Venice (Polo IV). According to his records, he had traveled thousands of miles with his father and uncle. Marco, Nicolo and Maffeo (known as the Polos) left Venice, and did not return for twenty six years. After about a three and a half year journey, Marco noted that the Polos arrived in the court of Kublai Khan, the conqueror of China. The Great Khan ruled a vast empire of prosperous cities that had richer goods, services, and technology than any place in Europe that Marco had ever seen (Freedman 6). Kublai Khan was the grandson of the infamous Genghis Khan, the fearless Mongol who swept across Asia and the Middle East generations earlier. When the Polos arrived in Shangdu (the capitol of Kublai Khan s empire), the Mongol empire stretched from China, to Russia and Iraq; the empire was at the pinnacle of its existence (Polo 26). Because my older siblings, not to mention my parents, would discuss their sexual experiences in my presence, my curiosity was peaked. Thus, I began to explore my sexuality. During my pre teenage years, I had already engaged in numerous sex related acts. In comparison to the typical 7 year old boy, I would have to say my mind developed at a much faster rate growing up. Through pornographic films and self stimulation, my knowledge of sex expanded exponentially. I was 7 when i first grabbed a woman s ass. Why Do Broken Bones Happen? The very nature of CPR creates conditions that are favorable to the development of broken ribs. It is worth noting that a few states have a narrower view and only apply these laws to medical professionals, thereby excluding volunteers. Most states also exclude blatant willful or negligent misconduct from legal protection. Gross Negligence A lawsuit against a rescuer who performed CPR and broke a few ribs will only hold up in court if gross negligence can be proven. Something must have been done right if the victim is alive to complain about the injury, so it will be very difficult to demonstrate negligent behavior on the part of the rescuer, even if he or she has no formal training. STORY COMMENTS MAGICALLY WED offers a delightful fantasy. The concept is solid. The script presents as a fun and classic fish out of water and coming of age story. The idea of an insecure, but hopeful wedding dress designer from the present being transported back in time to 1935 to become a dressmaker s assistant to her own great grandmother is a creative and imaginative idea. For example, many consumers are part of Generation Y (Espinoza, 2016). Consumers that fall into this demographic are interested in technological advances (Nielson, 2014). Therefore, the recommendation of mobile registers goes hand in hand with the consumers psychographics. The company s SWOT analysis also informed them. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a goal that the company could start to develop soon, but it will take some time to do (Breakthrough Learning, 2013). Long Term Strategies: In the future, a strategy that could be implemented for the company is to manufacture its own goods. As mentioned previously in the company s SWOT, having independent manufacturers has caused problems for this retailer (Market Line, 2017, p. 5). Not obtaining merchandise on time is a direct result of this (Market Line, 2017, p. 5). Not knowing the exact quality of the raw materials is also another issue for the company (Market Line, 2017, p. 5). If the company directly manufacturers their own products, these issues can be eliminated. This is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

America s Competitive Advantage I ve always been a calm and collective individual, favoring the slow and calculated approach to problem solving, assuring the problem is achieved to maximum success. As such, I m the kind of person to try everything first hand, in order to find out the true best way in order to accomplish a task, despite what a guide may say. However, I also have the intelligence to do so in a productive way. • 42. World War One and The Middle East Essays Introduction Over the course of human history, wars have always created, destroyed or enveloped nations, states or empires. Examples of these include the Final War of the Roman Republic, which culminated with the Battle of Actium in 31 BCE, to the Franco Prussian War of 1871 which created a unified German state. However, World War One is known to have had the greatest impact on human civilization. It dragged in almost every continent into the conflict, halted global trade, led to the demolition of four empires, and gave nationalism everywhere a boost. One interesting factor about the First World War is the extent to which it had a tremendous impact on the Middle East. Many westerners today would only remember it by reading Erich Maria ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The link to the Middle East was bridged when the Ottoman Empire decided to join the Central Powers. Their reasoning behind this decision emanated from the fact that the Germans were seen as guaranteed victors since they were already the most industrialized state in Europe, had the experience of defeating France in 1871, and could move troops and equipment quickly where needed via their vast railway network. Another second factor was the proximity of Russia and the ambitions of the Austrians in the Balkans. Regarding the Allies, they assumed that the war would be quick and decisive just as the Central Powers assumed as well (Implementation of the Schlieffen Plan) and had no need for an alliance with the Ottomans but they did inhibit plans to distribute the Ottoman provinces when the war was over amongst themselves. However, they suffered a series of setbacks. By the fall of 1914, the British, French and Germans were all bogged down in trench warfare in Belgium and France. Furthermore in 1915, the Allies, in an attempt to alleviate the burden of fighting on the Western Front, decided to land troops in Gallipoli with the objective of knocking the Ottomans out from the war. The campaign ended in disaster. As a result of this failure, the British decided to establish contact with Sharif Husayn, caretaker of Mecca and of the Banu Hashim clan, with the promise of supporting him in the creation of an Arab ... Argumentative Essay On Liberal Arts Colleges Recently, the job market has been very competitive especially for students straight out of college, however students with a liberal arts background have a greater advantage as they are more appealing to employers. There are hundreds of liberal arts colleges in the United States, however they are often overlooked due to false perceptions regarding price. Liberal arts schools prepare students for the real world by providing a well rounded education, smaller class sizes that allow for more individualized learning, and a unique college experience. Liberal arts schools aim to provide students with a wide variety of knowledge instead of requiring them to specialize as freshman. General education classes help set students up for a successful career path. Fueled by the drive to earn more than what most jobs can give, rock star like adulation achieved by those who make it, and with success stories that run into billions of dollars, being an entrepreneur is the new black. In fact those of us who are 30 plus would still remember that just two to three decades back, being an entrepreneur, especially if you were male, meant that you were either morally bankrupt or worse stupid, and either of which, by the way, substantially brought down your value in the marriage market. But times are a changing, the days ahead are heady, and for those who have or are planning to take the plunge, here are five films that are worth watching. They are not just inspiring, you might even pick up a few business and even life lessons in the process. Tom Cruise plays the title role in Jerry Maguire (1996), and works for a sports management company as their star agent. He is fired when he writes and circulates a memo pointing out the wrongs of their business. It is then that he decides to build from scratch a business based on his newly discovered philosophy. • 46. Music Appreciation Essay This was the day I had been dreading. I was participating in the Seattle Young Artists Music Festival, an event where students share their music with a small class and receive a lesson from the teacher. My violin teacher and my parents decided that this event would develop my musical skills, so they registered me with enthusiasm. I, on the other hand, was not so enthusiastic. I had never honestly enjoyed performing in the past and I was especially nervous about this event knowing that I would receive a music lesson from an expert violinist after my performance. It did not help to hear stories of strict, criticizing, and rude teachers from my siblings who had previously done this event either. I wondered how any good could come from this event. Though only flippantly, I even considered what would happen if I pretended to be ill or purposely injured my finger. However, before I knew it, the dreadful day arrived and I realized I would just have to go for it. I woke up before the sun and groggily prepared to leave. My Mom and my two siblings, Amy and Aaron, got ready to leave too since Aaron was also performing and Mom and Amy would be accompanying both of us on the piano. • 47. A Rhetorical Analysis Of Abortion By Rabbi David Novak To begin it is important to understand halakha which is the jewish law that governs the status of an unborn fetus and whether or not abortion can occur. First off I will be discussing Rabbi David Novak from University of Toronto s, short paper titled Abortion , in this article Rabbi David Novak takes a neutral stance and states that there are two sides to the argument of abortion in Judaism. Rabbi David Novak starts by stating that the most common belief in modern Judaism is as follows , On one side are those who see the fetus as a human within a human (Sanhedrin 57b, re Genesis 9:6). On the other side are those who regard the child as a human person only after it emerges from the womb (Rashi on Sanhedrin 72b, re Ohalot 7.6); before that, it is simply a part of the mother s body. (Novak). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Traditionally, Jewish belief is considered to be a pro life stance, which is not to argue that a Jew must actively support the pro life movement just that it is the basis of their core belief system. The problem with Judaism identifying with pro choice though is that the pro choice movement is for the most part based on Human ownership of the human body, an idea that directly contradicts the Jewish dogma that everything belongs to God men s bodies, women s bodies, anyone s body (Ezekiel 18:4). (Novak). Another issue with abortion in Judaism is that it gives significant legal and moral room to the mother and those around her, allowing justification for abortion on a case by case basis as well as the fact that rabbis have never regulated abortion within the Jewish population. In the Talmud it is said that that only physically present infants are considered to be legal persons but there are only specific cases where abortion or killing of the child is considered to be ...
