Brief Analysis Of John Steinbeck s Life And Work
John Ernst Steinbeck Jr. was born on February 27, 1902 in Salinas, California. He was one of
three children, and the only male, born to John Ernst Steinbeck (father) and Olive Hamilton
(mother). Growing up, John s family lived in a small town where he would spend his summer
working on farms and ranches. Working on the farm gave him inspiration to write about the
scenery, and many times, he would write whenever he had free time in the laboratory of
Spreckels Sugar Company. Seeing the migrant workers also gave John an opportunity to see the
hardships and troubles that many go through just to stay in the United States, and he would use
this to create stories later on in life Upon graduating high school, John decided to attend Stanford
University to study English Literature. However, despite his time there, John was unable to earn
a degree and was forced to look for work. New York City was his first destination, but unable to
publish anything there, John moved back to California, where he would meet his first wife, Carol,
while working as a tour guide and caretaker in Lake Tahoe. Eventually, in 1929, John was able to
publish his first novel, Cup Of Gold, and in 1933, his novel Tortilla... Show more content on

Sadly, John passed away on December 20, 1968 due to heart disease and heart failure. However,
his legacy will forever be remembered through the John Steinbeck Award, which is given annually
to the individual that had contributed the most in society to the spirit of John Steinbeck. Some
previous recipients have included musicians Joan Baez and Jackson Browne, and filmmaker Ken
Burns. John is also honored at the National Steinbeck Center in Salinas, California, and in 2007,
was inducted into the California Hall of

Executive Summary
This report is presented to Carmen s Fine Food Pty Ltd as an investigation to the possibility of
expanding their company into Japan. The external environment of Japan which consists of political,
economical, socio cultural, technological and legal environments were being examined in order to
inspect the feasibility of expansion. Based on these findings and researching, we can see the

The aim of this report is to provide the company with a feasibility report for the proposal
expansion. The proposed expansion will require the company to have access to muesli, machinery
and labour in Japan in order to produce health foods, muesli bars and other confectionary products.
This report will analyse the political, economic, socio cultural, technological and legal environments
(PESTL) that exists in Japan, which will then be recommended to Carmen Fine Foods whether to
expand their business into Japan. The proposed expansion strategy is by exporting required
resources from Australia to Brazil, because they do not have the experience in working overseas.

The Function Of Insulin Or Rapid-Acting Insulin Analogs
insulin or rapid acting insulin analogs Preparations included with phenolic excipients serves two
purposes: retaining solution sterility and stabilization of the insulin molecule in the hexameric
form to avoid aggregation(35). These compounds are may cause problems since they are proved to
be toxic and irritant, and are being investigated for their role as sensitizers and carcinogens (36).
Generally the human insulin monomers may assemble into insulin dimer and insulin hexamer
which is more stable than that of dimeric form. Regarding the main function of insulin which is
regulating the uptake of glucose, both insulin dimer and hexamer are inactive in biological
environment. However they are much more stable from conformational viewpoint ... Show more

When phenolic preservatives were depleted insulin glulisine dissociated or broke down from a
structure with higher molecular weight (hexamer) structures into a number of intermediate
molecular weight one, usually between monomer and hexamer, whereas insulin aspart and insulin
lispro separated into monomers and dimmers. The ultimate disintegration of Insulin lispro and
aspart was due to the large extent of their dissociation when they were depleted of their excipients
while insulin glulisine was dissociated to intermediate molecular weight molecules in the absence
of the phenol and m cresol (39).
In general they concluded that insulin degradation was inversely related to the concentration of
phenol and m cresol as phenolic preservatives.
Tissue response and inflammation (cytotoxic effect of insulin with and without excipients)
CD54, CD11b and CD14 are surface proteins considered as markers of inflammatory cell
activation. Weber et al explored these markers to investigate whether the phenol and m cresol could
cause the inflammatory response. In order to study the potential inflammatory effect of phenolic
preservatives of insulin they selected monocytic cell line THP 1. The mentioned cell lines were
exposed to sub toxic concentration of phenol and m cresol as well as insulin analogues formulation
for 24 hours. Since they found that insulin with

Tort Law Can Be Defined As An Area Of Law
Tort law can be defined as an area of law that deals with the wrongful actions of an individual or
entity, which cause injury to another individual s or entity s person, property, or reputation, and
which entitle the injured party to compensation (Tort Law). In other words, a tort case occurs when
a person has broken civil law by inflicting injury, whether physical, emotional, or that of one s
reputation, onto another person. When a crime such as this has been committed, tort lawallows for
the injured party, or plaintiff, to seek out compensation for the wrongs that have been committed
against them (Tort Law). There are six types of Tort cases that could occur. These are Negligence,

in this case was charged with Trespass to goods (B. Sexton). Trespass to Land tort cases occur
when there has been unjustifiable interference with another s land (B. Sexton). This type of
trespass can be committed negligently or accidently (B. Sexton). The final type of tort case is
Products Liability. This occurs when injury or harm has been caused by a defective product
(Products Liability). In this type of tort case, there are three types of product defects that cause
liability issues. These are design defects, manufacturing defects, and marketing defects (Products
Liability). A design defect is when the overall design of the product causes the harm or injury to
the plaintiff (Products Liability). A manufacturing defect occurs during the construction or
production of the product (Products Liability). In this case, only a few of the products are flawed
(Products Liability). Finally, a defect in marketing occurs when harm is caused to the plaintiff
because the product was not labeled with any warnings about possible dangers with use of the
product (Products Liability). Even though there are six types of tort cases, torts can also be broken
down into three main, general categories of torts. The three categories are Intentional Torts,
Negligence Torts, and Strict Liability Torts (Tort Law). An intentional tort can be defined as an act

The Mysterious Death Of Mary Rogers Essay
I ve learned from the book, The Mysterious Death of Mary Rogers by Amy Gilman Srebnick that
the 19th century city is way different from today s cities. The laws weren t as strict, women weren
t as conservative, and abortion was legal. The death of Mary Rogers demonstrates the reality of the
middle class young women in the metropolitan areas. Mary Rogers illustrates young women during
the 19th century. Her story characterizes the threats of the city and the threats of the young women
during 19th century New York. Mary Rogers death maintains apprehension in regards to women s
changing roles, law, and sex. This case also focuses on the overdoing of abortion during the 19th
century. Mary Roger s death is a symbol for the latest developing city of this century, the fluctuating
role of women, and political and social reform.
In today s society the good outweighs the bad but in the 19th century, the good would have never
outweighed the bad. Even though the 19th century is a different time period than today s society
we still share similar characteristics. The first similarity is crimes. In today s society, we have
people, doing things out of the usual norm everyday which often ends in the death of someone s
loved one, and this is the same for 19th century New York. Mary Roger s... Show more content on

it does in today s society, but in today s society the news crew is on the scene as fast as they can
get there but it wasn t the same in the 19th century. Even though, the news spread quickly

Brett Harris Autobiography
Brett Harris is an irrefutable genius with amazing hair, a surplus of sass, and endless amounts of
talents. I honestly think that he is the gay superman: perfectly dorky and strong, but without all
of the obvious muscle and a boy magnet on top of all the perfection. He is that last puzzle piece
that Lauren and I were missing from our best friendship. He drew me even further out of my
shell and brought out the sass in Lauren, we in turn let him cuss like a sailor and gave him an
outlet for all types of boytalk. I also provided him with hype, reminding him of how amazing a
person he is and that he can do anything; both Lauren and Brett seemed to forget how impossibly
wonderful they are at times, so I have made it my mission to remind them of their amazingness. If
Lauren is the badass of the group, Brett is the epitome of perfection. He is immensely smart,

Effects Of The Sauk Rapids Tornado
On the afternoon of April 14, 1886, the city of Sauk Rapids in Minnesota was nearly wiped out
after a tornado had struck the city. The whole city was left in complete devastation. Natural
disasters have always interested me, specifically tornadoes. Something about tornadoes, whether it d
be how they form or how they acquire their power to cause great destruction, interests me to learn
more about tornadoes. This led me to research about tornadoes in Minnesota. As I began surfing the
internet about tornadoes that occurred in Minnesota, I came across the effects that each tornadohad
caused to the areas that it had struck. This is where I discovered the effects of one particular
tornado called the Sauk Rapids Tornado. As I looked at the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Based on this, the tornado was absolutely massive. Also, it had been reported that when the
tornado crossed the Mississippi...local witnesses said the river was swept dry ... (Douglas, Paul).
This tornado was really a force to be reckoned with. In the end, the Sauk Rapids tornado lasted
only about thirteen minutes, but devastatingly killed 72 people and injured more than 200 and
caused over $400,000 in damages. In 2015 dollars, that would be roughly $10.4 million dollars
(NWS Des Moines). All of this is why the Sauk Rapids tornado became known as the deadliest
tornado ever in Minnesota history.
Though the Sauk Rapids tornado destroyed the city of Sauk Rapids, the city was still able to
rebuild back to the community that they once were and become an even stronger city. Before the
tornado struck Sauk Rapids, the city was actually going through a period of growth. Many
buildings were being built such as a general store was built, then a hotel, and a large jail...new
courthouse was built... (Sauk Rapids Minnesota). Sauk Rapids was building to become a
successful city, but unfortunately, that wasn t able to happen because of the tornado. However, the
tornado actually helped teach Sauk Rapids a valuable lesson in terms of what materials buildings
should be built out of. A majority of the buildings, before the tornado had struck, in Sauk Rapids
were built using wood: The original businesses...a lot of them were wood. After the

Distracted Driving, And The Dangers Of Distracted Driving
In this essay it will talk about what distracted driving is and the dangers of distracted driving.
Distracted driving is the act of driving while enabling yourself into other activities and not paying
attention to the road or others around you. Since cars have been invented distracted driving has
been around in society. People say that distracted driving is the new drunk driving, it is actually
supposably more dangerous the drinking and driving. Also they say the more a distracted driver
drives with the distractionthe more they get comfortable with it, then the more it happens. It is
hard to prevent distracted driving since it is temporary, they usually do the distraction for a
short period of time then put it away. Distracted driving is very selfish and wrong, people who
are distracted drivers pretty much are telling everyone else on the road that them and their wants
are more important than their own life or other drivers on the road s life. Distracted driving can
affect any age groups, but typically it is the younger age groups between the ages of fifteen to
twenty nine. Truth is though everyone some point in time in their life has been a distracted
driver. Ten percent of all drivers fifteen to nineteen are involved in fatal crashes revolved around
distractions. There are many ways you can get distracted while driving such as cognitive
distractions, which is when your mind is not focused on driving, then there is visual distractions
which is when you the driver is looking at anything besides the road, auditory, which is like
when your music is too loud or responding to a ringing device, lastly the final type of distraction
is manual distraction which is when you take one or both of your hands off the wheel for any
specific reason. Some things that are considered distracted driving are smoking, eating or
drinking, adjusting your radio or climate settings, adjusting seat belts or mirrors, talking to your
passengers, using an electrical device such as a GPS or a cell phone, also just getting lost in
your own thought. Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of deaths, also it is usually
caused by cell phone use. Eleven teens die every day as a result of texting while driving. Kansas is

Julius Caesar Flaws
Out of the many flaws that Julius Caesar had, one of the largest flaws that he had was his pride
and his ambition. Having both of these attributes led to him being power hungry as well. For the
most part Shakespeare s play focuses on the idea of Julius being power hungry for immortality.
Despite his several flaws he is still able to be considered a hero for several different reasons. For
one, he recognized his flaw, he was aware of what was thought of him because he saw it that way
himself. As the first example, Julius had issues with his pride which is what led to his death.
Before this occurred he was even warned by a crystal gazer by saying beware the ides of March.
(Act 1, Scene 2, line 23) Although Caesar was warned he could careless just because his
arrogance got the best of him, therefore he brushes the comment off. He had so much pride that
he ignored a red flag that could have had the potential to save his life from the conspirators that
were planning to kill Caesar. They later were successful with their plan and killed Caesar as the
crystal gazer warned him. His own arrogance and pride led him to have immense power, but it also
is what led him to his own death.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Scene 2, line 251). This line served as another warning sign for Julius. This line stated that there
was going to be trouble in the future for him. After being warned for the second time, Julius chose
to ignore the comment the same way that he ignored the crystal gazer. He decided to continue on
with what he needed to do regardless of what it

That Can Be Us By Thomas Friedman And Michael Mandelbaum
That Used to be Us by Thomas Friedman and Michael Mandelbaum discusses the four major
challenges that the United States faces, globalization, the IT revolution, chronic deficits, and energy
consumption. The authors also give plausible solutions to the problems facing America and stress
the point that if something is not done now then the United Stateswill face the consequences. Is the
American Century Over? by Joseph Nye argues that the American century is not over, and gives
scenarios of possible consequences for America s actions. He also gives a few countries that
could possible take over as the world s leading country. Both books argue that America has serious
problems that it is facing today, and that if they are not addressed it could lead to the downfall of
the United States.
Friedman and Mandelbaum are both frustrated optimists of America s future (7). They know the
potential American has, and that it is filled with creative talented and hardworking people that can
accomplish almost anything if they work together (Friedman and Mandelbaum, 8). At the same
time, they are frustrated because they discovered that many of those people feel that our country is
not educating the workforce they need, or admitting the energetic immigrants they seek, or
investing in the infrastructure they require, or funding the research they envision, or putting in
place the intelligent tax laws and incentives that our competitors have installed (Friedman and

Personality As An Understanding Of Personality
As an understanding of personality, it is said that the essential paradigms of a personality are
defined by individual s characteristics and behaviour. However over a period of time an individual
s personality can change due to genetics and the altering nature of the environment they are placed
within. Personality is in reference to individuals variances in their patterns of feeling, thinking and
behaving (Encyclopedia of Psychology: 8 Volume Set, 2000). This essay will be focusing on the
basic dimensions of a personality and also the factors influencing personality change. This then will
be contrasted against a study that develops that personality does not change over time.
Personality not only changes over time and experience but also manipulates as the individual goes
through varying facades within their life. Several personality psychologists believe that personality
is defined by five dimensions as suggested by McCrae and Costa (The Big Five dimensions of
personality?, V.Egan, 1988). This was found by testing the conduct group by allowing them to
choose a solution to a question that the teste believed was most suitable and thus showed that the
test groups had presented 5 dominant characteristics, extroversion, agreeableness,
conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness (The Big Five dimensions of personality?, V.Egan,
1988). Extroversion is looking into the individual s excitability, sociability and the high amounts of
emotional expression (Very Well, 2016).

Effects Of Pivotal Response Treatment On Language Expansion
Effects of pivotal response treatment on language expansion in children with autism Stock,
Mirenda, and Smith (2013) compared the effectiveness of private group applied behavior analysis
(GABA) and pivotal response treatment (PRT) on several domains of development in children with
autism spectrum disorder. Progress and effectiveness of treatment was assessed through several
measures, such as the Preschool Language Scale, the Merill Palmer Revised Scales, the Vineland
Adaptive BehaviorScales, the Child Behavior Checklist, and the Parenting Stress Index Short Form.
In the GABA group, intervention was individualized based on strengths and weaknesses of each
child, and structured 1:1 discrete trial training as well as generalized 1:2 teaching was implemented.
Target programs included imitation, manding, receptive language, object matching, adaptive skills,
and social skills training. Intervention took place both in intensive teaching and natural teaching
environments in a preschool like setting. Generalized ABA teaching included two children to one
therapist, and the children worked on social skills. In the PRT group, individualized intervention
goals focused on functional communicationskills, developmentally appropriate social and play
skills, as well as adaptive skills. A major difference between the two groups was that parents were
included in an active therapist role throughout intervention, and therapeutic sessions were
conducted in the home and community.

sports is the homophobic slurs used in the locker room and on the field, granted, Ryan said that
even in day to day life he never felt harmed or hurt by homophobic slurs. However, it is still a
major problem in sports. 89 percent of homosexuals heard or felt targeted by homosexual slurs,
according to the study. In my interview with Ryan I asked him if the culture of the locker room
needed to be the first thing to change, he said Absolutely, sometimes it has to start from within a
team and then that positive and encouraging attitude can go on to others.
In my interview with Ryan, he said he never felt targeted but he did hint at the fact that at times
the slurs could be excessive, he aimed responsibility of the needed culture change on the
coaching staff. He spoke about the coaches on one of the teams he played for previously, who
used slurs towards the opposing team, Kinda shocked me, but I recognized it was a motivating
factor . Coaches in the sports are ones who need to step up to the plate and make the world of

What Is The Theme Of Mushrooms By Sylvia Plath
A quiet revolution: perhaps oxymoronic sounding upon first glance. However, the poem
Mushrooms by Sylvia Plath paints a picture of a story about exactly that, doing so through a
subtle metaphor and simple but powerful visual imagery. Though a poem about the oppression of
a group of people, it does not tell a story of despair. In fact, it s quite the opposite, speaking instead
of an uprising of a different sort, of a hope as modest as the mushrooms themselves.
Mushrooms may seem at first like a very peculiar thing to base an entire poem around. However, the
author leaves scattered hints throughout the stanzas that this may be about more than a bunch of
timid fungi. The first hint of this is in the second stanza: our toes, our noses / take ... Show more

Talk of how they were earless and voiceless certainly doesn t seem to paint a particularly cheerful
picture. And though I agree that cheerful wouldn t be an appropriate adjective to use, there is a
glimmer of hope poking out like the cap of a mushroom at dusk that, once grasped, becomes the
dominant mood. Picking out specific lines from the poem, you can tell that this is a poem of
triumph, one disguised as a story of oppression much like how the simple mushrooms are
disguised as soft and non intimidating. Nobody sees us / stops us, betrays us / the small grains
make room. These lines on stanza three show the beginning of the mushrooms presence on the
Earth, as grains of dirt part to let them through. This is only the first indication of the beginning of
a revolution. One that only grows as they grow, So many of us! So many of us! the author cheers in
stanza eight. By sheer number and by sheer will, the mushrooms continue to take over unnoticed,
unannounced. And by the poem s end, a battle had been won. And this is naturally something to
take pride in. A quiet pride, as it is in the mushroom s nature to be humble. But pride

Analysis Of Animal Farm, By George Orwell
Animal Farm was written by George Orwell in 1945. The book reflects events leading up to the
Russian Revolution of 1917 and then on into the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union. Animal farm
includes use of propaganda as well. A quote for example would be some animals are equal but
some are more equal than others. I think that this book fits that quote very well as the author
makes Napoleon along with Snowball are the leaders of the rebellion against Jones. A few
questions that come to mind are, how does one define one animal being more equal than others?
Why is a certain animal favored over the others? Why are there two leaders of the same animal
and not two different ones? Why are two pigs picked as the leader? I feel that this book... Show

This theme in Animal Farm can also be looked as people being equal, but some are more equal
than others because sometimes that is how certain people see others. Just because they re
different they don t get the same treatment as others. My argument is for everyone and every
animal being equal. The leaders Napoleon and Snowball do not take the role in treating the
other animals equally. Boxer, the horse works harder than anyone else and is not treated as well
as the other animals. He was not first in the rate of intelligence, but he was university respected
for his steadiness of character, and tremendous power of work. These are great qualities for a
horse, but as it turns out not such great qualities for a revolutionary under Stalin s government. He
works harder for others but still is treated unequally. His self motto is I will work harder.
Comparing the animals to one another because they re different is like comparing a black human
being with a white human being. They may look different from everyone else but does that mean
they should be voted out of doing something because of it? No it does not. I believe that everyone
is the same no matter their race, religion, sexuality, anything about them that will put them out in a
different group. Just because something is different about them doesn t mean they should be
excluded from doing certain

De Mello s book The Way To Love he talks alot about our attachment to people and things. In
particular he mentions our need to be loved by another as if we would die if they did not exist.
When we give up who we are to please another person we do what I call prostitute our being. We

we think we know what it is another person wants there are no guarantees that we will get it right

Discuss The Use Of Irony In The Pardoner s Tale
Grant Sauber Mr. Jason Robinson English 12 Honors 19 October 2014 Canterbury Tales Essay
The use of irony has had a profound effect on the world of literature as it is seen in The
Canterbury Tales. Irony can help shape the reader s perception on the theme of the novel as a
whole. Throughout the tales, Chaucer subtly uses irony to criticize different aspects of his
society. This irony is namely used in The General Prologue , The Pardoner s Tale , and The
Miller s Tale . Therefore, by looking at these various tales in the novel, one can see how Chaucer
uses irony to critique society. One way that Chaucer uses this irony is in The General Prologue
when he describes all the different characters. This allows him to interject various facts... Show

In short, the Pardoner s tale was a lesson. Chaucer uses The Pardoner s Tale to reveal the
hypocrisy of the Pardoner himself in multiple cases. Mostly in all of these cases, the Pardoner
does not practice the same things that he preaches against. He also has an unusual pride, rather
than remorse, in his corrupt behavior. For example, we know from The General Prologue to
The Pardoner s Tale that the Pardoner strongly believes that all evil comes from greed or the
desire for wealth. However, the Pardoner later states, I will have money, wool, and cheese, and
wheat, though it be given by the poorest page, or by the poorest widow in the village, and
though her children perish of famine. This statement expresses how the Pardoner is revealing
his own hypocrisy. He preaches that all evil comes from greed, but then he goes right out and
talks about how he will have money for things he wants such as wool and cheese even if it
requires him to take money from the very poor. The Pardoner s Tale itself also talks about how
greed can lead to evil, since the three men all plotted to kill others just for the sole purpose of

The Film Olga Directed by Jaime Monjardim
Conflicted Brazil Olga (2002), a Brazilian film directed by Jaime Monjardim and the book Olga:
Revolutionary and Martyr (2004) written by Fernando Moraes are written and visual work which
holds the information of Brazil in their view, that occurred before and after the Revolution of
1930. Along with film by Monjardim and a book by Moraes, article like Luis Carlos Prestes and
the Revolutionof 1924 by Ernest A. Duff and a book, Vargas and Brazil

provides a precious information on the revolution of Brazil. As the revolution started, it came along
with the major change in political that as a side effect caused a change in social and economical
within the country. Tired of financial and economic issues faced by Brazilians during the regime of
Old Republic, the tenentes, who were the lower military officers that could intervene in the
economic development, finally brought their rule to an end through the Revolution of 1930 which
won the respect and loyalty of large elements of the civilian population in rural areas (Duff 13), that
also brings Getulio Vargas into the power. Tenentes, as already experienced the economy downfall
during the regime of Old Republic, wanted to overcome the country s backwardness and
dependency by installing a strong, interventionist state that promoted industrialization and national
integration. (Jens R. 4) By then Prestes, the organizer of Tenentes, who attempted to overthrow the
government of Brazil in 1924 through

Eggers did a fantastic job of showing this. Taking the way he wrote could lead to clues that he
actually did try to incorporate the way Zeitoun treated his wife and family. Eggers really did not
fully show that Zeitoun was an unbreakable superhero. He shows how Zeitoun and Kathy
disagree on things and how they argue.(Nashe) When Zeitoun and Kathy went on that walk to
this huge rock, Kathy said multiple times how she wanted to turn back around and forget about
what they promised. Zeitoun would not let her turn around. He would say that they had come to
far to turn back. This could allude to the abuse he put Kathy under. The rock could be the goal,
and Zeitoun would want to stay together and prove that they had a strong marriage and a strong
will to grow together. Kathy turning around could act like her wanting to give up everything they
went through and for the both of them to start off brand new; but Zeitoun won. They walked to
the rock, but even though Kathy kept up the strong act for a while, it did not last. Eggers also
showed he was stubborn and that he put a lot of effort into his work. Zeitoun eventually became a
workaholic, partly because of the fact he was imprisoned. After the storm though, Eggers shows
how both of them are broken.(Nashe) Without indirectly adding these little hints, it is easy to say
that Eggers probably did not know about the abuse; but since there are the tiny hint, it is possible to
say that Eggers might have known about some of it. He might not have known all the details, but
he perhaps knew a little something. He does not have the right to come out and just say that Kathy
was abused because he used what the family gave to him. If they gave him the information, he
should have said something, but if they did not give him the information he can not just accuse
Zeitoun. The fact that Eggers and the filmmaker, Jonathan Demme, said Our primary

The Bundesrat is a body within the German government that represents the interests of the
individual states and thus acts as a link between the Federation and the federal states. The
Bundesrat is made up of appointed representatives of the federal state government with each
state given a certain amount of votes in regards to their population. In total there are 69 seats
with each Lander given between three to six seats. (Reuter 2009, pg. 17) The Bundesrat
democratic legitimacy comes from the fact that its state governments are elected and thus those
appointed to the Bundesrat were theoretically chosen by the people. Thus to be a member of the
Bundesrat the person must have a role in the government at the federal state level. The
Bundesrat does not need to pass every bill, but rather is only required to provide approval to
bills if they directly affect the Lander and currently almost 50% of all bills passed need the
approval of the Bundesrat. (U.S. Library of Congress) The Bundesrat can reject appeal laws to
Federal matters, but the Bundestag can overrule those objections by having the same majority
as in the Bundesrat who rejected it. Review and discussion over the proposals submitted by the
Federal government are two of the Bundesrat s main responsibilities which portray its checks
and balances role in the federal government. If an agreement can not be made between the two
chambers, then a Joint Conference Committee is created to resolve any differences and create a
bill that has been passed by a majority in each chamber. The Bundesrat has a total of 16
committees who are are given certain undertakings in regards to their areas of knowledge and
experience. (Reuter 2009, pg. 25) The Bundesrat only has six weeks to consider a bill so the work

Analysis Of Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five Essay

Rhetorical Analysis Essay Draft
Slaughterhouse five
War is a virus, a plagues our world and has experienced since the early ages of time. Once a war is
cured a new strain begins stronger and more unforgiving as the last. Humans are creatures of habit
which continue the violence. Kurt Vonneguts novel, slaughterhouse five, is a deliberate and well
developed statement against war as expressed through the tone, rhetoric, and characters, making
anti war a prominent theme through the entirety of the novel. Slaughterhouse five advocates for
the prevention of war and all the terrible consequences that follow. Kurt Vonnegut s seemingly
parallel relationship with the main character of the novel, Billy Pilgrim, and the parallels of
other characters to real life individual paints a more vivid and real wickedness to war. All this
happened, more or less. The war parts, anyway, are pretty much true (1). In the first line of the
novel Vonnegut declares his credibility. In 1944, Kurt Vonnegut served in Europe and fought in the
Battle of the Bulge. After this battle, Vonnegut was captured and became a prisoner of war. He was
in Dresden, Germany, during the Allied firebombing of the city and saw the complete devastation
caused by it. Vonnegut himself escaped harm only because he, along with other POWs (prisoners of
war), were working in an underground meat locker making vitamin supplements. Similarly Billy
Pilgrim, the main character of

Memes and Life
We have three replicators 1. Genes 2. Memes 3. Fremes (I have called them that).
These three replicators are selfish in that they contiuously try to replicate.
In the book by Susan Blackmore, it is mentioned that the reason why we cannot stop thinking is
because there are too many memes in our memory that can find their place in the brain. Hence, we
continuously keep on thinking, but at the cost of higher energy requirements. Indeed, thinking
utilizes more brain power which in turn requires more oxygen for which more blood flow is
required. Hence, in a nutshell, the more we think the more energy we consume and the more the
genetically weaker our genes become as we are wasting more energy. What we see here that these...

Hence, let us see how ideally we should be able to control these memes.
We need to control the gene replication. For this, the simple idea is not to produce offsprings.
Simple.
We need to control the meme replication. For this, we need to try to stop thinking. Difficult, but
practice makes us perfect, or so they say.
We need to control freme replication. For this, let me take you on this concept of a time
machine. The photon clock example. Yes. As our speed increases, the value of the time
decreases. This is all hypothetical and yes, impossible too. Later, I will explain why.
Nevertheless, the analogy is interesting. We are saying that the longer the time the lesser number
of ticks and hence smaller the value of time. This way. So the longer the time, the more the
control as you could possibly do things more dexterously. So in order to control fremes, we need
to decrease the meme activity and increase the freme activity, i.e. decrease the value of time as
frequency = 1/ Time.
So, what do we collect from all this?
In order to reach a higher state we should ideally be away from the greed of
This is what the ideal life of a saint is explained in the Jain text. Indeed, there are various levels of

How Technology Is Affecting Families
October 13, 2015 my group class and I went to Galleria to observe the people. After watching
several families I came to the conclusion that technology is affecting families, during the
observation families were more on their cell phones stead of having a conversation with their
families. The family look as if they were stranger. They look with a very serious look. They did
not take the time to have a conversation. One of the kid was in his phone most of the time when he
was with his family. I was surprise because the parents did not said anything not even the parents
took time to ask or said anything. The table was in silent they just were looking around. Is very hard
to understand that the family that I observe did not make no connection. It was not the only family
that didn t not have not communication there was few more. My motheris a very old schoolwhen we
are with the family she doesn t want us in the phones or computers she said that family time is
family time. I think that my mom is right because most of the time we work and go to school.
Most of the family don t have the time to have a conversation with their families for the same
reason because everyone is busy with work.

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Herpes Viruses
Etiology
To start off my paper, I want to make something clear. There are two types of herpes viruses. HSV
1 is the type that usually causes cold sores or fever blisters around your mouth. HSV 2 is the type
that commonly causes genital herpes. The virus spreads through sexual contact and skin to skin
contact. HSV 2 is very common and highly contagious, whether or not you have an open sore
(Aurelius, p. 3).
Genital Herpes is more commonly caused by HSV 2 but is known to be caused by HSV 1. Oral

This sexually transmitted disease is more likely to go from men to women, than women to men.
Having multiple sexual partners are raise the risk factors as well. Each sexual partner that is
engaged with raises your risk for being exposed to any sexually transmitted disease.
Modes of Transmission
HSV 1 is usually passed from person to person by kissing, or having contact with and infected
persons sore. HSV 1 can also spread from the mouth to the genitals during oral sex (fellatio,
cunnilingus, analingus). If this happens, the strain can change and become a case of genital
herpes. HSV 2 is most often passed by vaginal sex and anal sex. Although, just as HSV 1 can
infect the genitals and cause genital herpes, HSV 2 can pass from one person s genitals to another
person s mouth, resulting in oral herpes (Barnabas, para 3).
HSV 2 cannot survive long on a non living surface, so there is no real risk of getting it from a
surface. Herpes is most commonly spread by direct skin to skin contact. Unlike a flu virus that
you can get through the air, herpes spreads by direct contact, that is, directly from the site of
infection to the site of contact. For example, if you have a cold sore and kiss someone, you can
transfer the virus to their mouth. Similarly, if you have active genital herpes and have vaginal or
anal intercourse, you can give your partner genital herpes. Finally, if you have

Comparing The Kid And Iron Jawed Angels
New and exciting technologies have always played a huge role in the culture of American
people. When the motion picture came out it was no surprise that both consumers and producers
were more than happy to get in on the action. Back in the 1920 s film was still pretty new and
was only in black and white with no sound, but the films were always accompanied by orchestral
pieces to help set the mood. The art of movie making has come a long way since then with the
addition of not only color and audio, but new techniques and new ideas. Both The Kid and Iron

King Lear Tragic Hero Essay
A tragic hero is said to be an imperfect character of noble stature, a character with a downfall
caused by an error of judgement which is not deserved, and a self realization from the downfall.
King Lear from the play King Lear fits this description of a tragic hero. King Lear is a tragic play
written by Shakespeare. King Lear is depicted as a tragic herobecause of his high status, his
downfall which was caused by himself, and his realization from his downfall. King Lear is
portrayed as a tragic hero partially because of his imperfectness. Throughout the play, King Lear
makes many mistakes, which show his imperfections. His mistakes eventually led to his insanity.
He does not even want ot go insane. He says, O, let me not be mad, not mad, sweet heaven keep
me in temper: I would not be mad! (I v 1 2). In the end of the play, Lear s insanity leads to his
demise. When he meets Cordelia... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aristotle believes that a tragic hero s downfall is his/her own fault. He also believes that this
decision was made by choice and not by force. King Lear truly fits this description. King Lear s
downfall was dividing his land (and his crown) to his three daughters out of narcissism. Lear
wanted his daughters to tell him how much they loved him. He did this by choice, not knowing
how evil two of his daughters, Goneril and Regan, really were and how they did not actually
love him. His obliviousness was his flaw and trusted his daughters too much. However, King
Lear disowned his youngest daughter, Cordelia, even though she was the one who love him
most. Lear is outraged when she does not tell him how much she loves him. King Lear says
Ingratitude, thou marble hearted fiend, more hideous when thou show st thee in a child than the
sea monster! (I iv 4 6). He mistook her honesty for lack of respect, which partially led to his
downfall as well. By the end of the play, Lear s mistakes caused him to go

Different Types Of Assessments That Have Been Standardized...
There are many different types of assessments that are used during different situations and some
during different times during the year. Each assessment has its own uses and also its own rules ,
which can be categorized as formal and informal. Formal assessments are assessments usually
given through tests and are referred to as standardized tests. Informal assessments are assessments
is mostly given in natural settings and include tools such as running records and anecdotal notes.
This research paper will focus on formative assessments that have been standardized and will
answer the questions of what, why and how. Assessments, based on my understanding, can be
simplified into three different areas and each area is essential to the overall success of children as
they become adults. The areas are considered to be the purposes of assessment . The three areas
include screening assessment, diagnostic assessment and also instructional assessment. When
thinking of using assessments in Early Childhood Education the important key questions to focus
on is why, what and how. Why means knowing why an assessment is needed. For what purpose is
the assessment being used? What means deciding on what type of assessment should be used, in
what situation. First, will it be an informal assessment? Or a formal assessment? And last is how
the assessment will be used. This includes the setting, time and the process of the assessment.
Understanding the key questions of why, what and how is

Don Pedro Foils
The Dons Foil The depth of characters in a story build off of each other as they highlight each
other character s strengths. This is called character foils. In William Shakespeare s book Much
Ado About Nothing the characters Don Pedro, Claudio, Benedick, and Don John come back
from the war to return to Messina, Italy. Claudio falls in love with Hero, and with the help of
Don Pedro, Claudio is able to marry Hero. However, Don Pedro s brother, Don John, deceives
everyone with his mischievous lies to ruin the marriage. Throughout the book, there are many
character foils, Don John and Don Pedro are character foils of each other because of their social
status, their reactions, and their personalities.Although Don Pedro and Don John are brothers,...

As stated by Don John, I had rather be a canker in a hedge than a rose in this grace...will it serve
for a model to build mischief on? What is he for a fool that betroths himself to unquietness.
(Shakespeare 14). Here it is shown that Don John feels very miserable around people, especially
his brother. He blames others for his mistreatment and prefers to avoid them. Don Pedro shows
different feelings with regard to people as he said, Thou wilt be like a lover presently and tire
the hearer with a book of words. If thou dost love fair Hero, cherish it and I will break with her
and her father thou shalt have her, (Shakespeare 11). Don Pedro shows that he cares for others
and will support them in their ideas, as he said here to help Claudio s love life. He doesn t show
that he hate peoples as much as Don John, but rather he gives advice and helps others with their
problems. Don John is move negative character, while Don Pedro is significantly more considerate
for others. In conclusion, Don Pedro and Don John are clear foils of each other. They show
completely different traits as the story goes on. The way they are treated in society, the way they
react towards similar situations, and their differing personalities show the clear depth between the
characters. Shakespeare put these differences in the brothers, Don Pedro and Don John to enhance
the plot. Especially, to clarify and further show the character s traits.

Gender Inequalities Around The World
After doing research on gender inequalities around the world, I realized how bad a lot of countries
are to women. Looking at the countries that have gender inequalities, I can see why they are not
moving towards sustainability. In this essay, I will be providing detailed examples of how different
countries treat their women and wives.
In some countries, women and wives don t have the right to travel without their husband or their
closest male relative s permission. In Egypt, Bahrain, and Syria, it is the husband s right to stop
their wives from traveling out of the country. All the husband needs to do is file a complaint at the
airport to prevent his wife from leaving the country. The husband doesn t even need to give the
airport any reason for why he doesn t want his wife traveling. In other countries like Iraq, Jordan,
Morocco, Oman, and Yemen, the husband needs to provide written permission for their wives to
travel. Lastly in Saudi Arabia, for an unmarried woman to travel they must have written permission
from their closest male relative. This written permission is for leaving the country or traveling on
public transportation between the different parts of the country.
In South Asia and Sub Saharan Africa, forty percent of women are married before their 18th
birthday. The women don t have the right to choice their husbands. Now in Pakistan, women s
marriages are arranged. The women are expected to accept this arrangement. If any women were to
refuse their marriage

Consequences Of Prejudice And Discrimination Against Obese...
Obesity may have its most immediate consequences in psychological and social realms, where
stigmatization of obese people has been recognized since a long time. A study showed that young
boys described obese body types as being indicative of negative personality characteristics (such as;
cheating, lazy, sloppy, lying, naughty, mean, ugly, dirty or stupid), and in younger children the
degree of negative stereotyping increased with age, while among adolescents, girls may be more
affected than boys, although both genders report some negative experiences (Puhl, 2012). The
prejudice and discrimination against obese individuals does not appear to have softened, although
obesity has now become far more common worldwide. Some of the negative consequences

Why Do Some People Think That Parents Should Take Care Of...
Jack Dangermond once said, In a nursery, if you don t take care of those plants, your profits get
lost real quickly. You have to weed. You have to water. You have to nurture. If one does not take
proper care of his/her nursery garden the plants will rot and people will no longer be able to enjoy
nature s beauty. In life people must take care of their children for the same reason. Without the
proper care and upbringing, a childcan be negatively affected by their surroundings and have to live
a difficult life, leading those children to not fully experience the joys of life. Parents should be
encouraged to raise their children in an environmentin which they are loved and feel safe. It is

John Hegger wrote an article about the causes of criminal behavior in which he stated that our
experiences growing up have the capability to shape our view of the world and also have a direct
impact on one s ability to make rational decisions . When kids grow up in neighborhoods where
there are high crime and violence rates, they are more likely to act similar to the behavior they
see. According to Salehi, recent studies show that during the last 5 years, 60 percent of the entire
world s city residents have, directly or indirectly, been a victim of violence, crime, and felony.
Thus, the increasing crime rate, violent or non violent, is a serious threat to all the urban societies
of the world (6). This proves that the environments and societies around us have contributed
towards creating more violence, crime, and felony. When children are raised in these environments,
they are more susceptible to live similar, violent lives. As mentioned previously, negative home
environments have been known to be a cause of poor language development, behavioral issues,
aggression, depression, etc. for developing children

Who Is Cool Hand Luke As A Christ Figure
Luke as a Christ Figure In literature, it s not uncommon for authors to create a character who
parallels Christ himself. In Cool Hand Luke, directed by Stuart Rosenberg, starring Paul Newman,
George Kennedy, Strother Martin, and J.D. Cannon, the protagonist Luke is shown as a Christ
figure. The film begins with Luke being arrested on account of being intoxicated and vandalizing
parking meters. He s taken to a prison in the South where his non conformist ideals automatically
disagree with the strict rules and authority. While serving his two year sentence working in a chain
gang, Luke manages to gain the respect of the other prisoners. He s given the nickname Cool Hand
Lukeafter he wins a card game from convincing the men he has valuable cards, even though he
really has nothing. After the death of his mom, Luke goes against authority and makes his first
attempt at escaping. He s brought back, however, and shortly after the audience is able to see his

Throughout Cool Hand Luke, Luke is shown to be a non conformist. When sent to prison, Luke
is placed in an isolated environment with strict rules, guards, and regimentation and his fiercely
individualistic spirit immediately clashes ( Cool Hand Luke (1967). ). Luke s non conformist
attitude is what drives him to escape so many times he s a rebel at heart, and refuses to adapt to
the prison environment. Luke not only rebels against big things such as prison authority, but
small, insignificant things as well. Even Luke s eating habits are distinctively non conformist he
takes a bite and leaves the spoon sticking out of his mouth ( Cool Hand Luke (1967). ). No matter
what he s doing, even if it s something as simple as eating, Luke finds a way to rebel against it.
This character trait of Luke s proves the Christ figure archetype because of his refusal to conform,

Clash of Laws in US and Canada Regarding Trade With Cuba
Clash of Laws in U.S. Canda Regarding Trade with Cuba Introduction
When Canadian laws collide with laws in the United States with reference to trade with Cuba,
which side prevails? More specifically, when an American subsidiary is operating in Canada and
engages in profitable trade or export related activities with Cuba which is illegal from the point of
view of the U.S. Department of Justice what will happen to that U.S. subsidiary in Canada?
Which side is right and which side is in the wrong? Is it fair for an American subsidiary operating
in Canada to be held accountable for what some view as archaic U.S. laws that forbid any trade
with Cuba? These issues and others related to the U.S. embargo on trade with Cuba will be
presented in this paper.
The Original Basis Background into the Legal Issues
In the first place, at the heart of the current legal standoff between the two neighbors in North
America, is the United States law called Trading with the Enemy Act (which was signed into law
in 1917). The Trading with the Enemy Act was an attempt to prevent American companies from
exporting to or importing from companies in nations that the U.S. listed as enemies of America.
And in 1994, James Sabzali, a Canadian citizen working as a foreign national in Philadelphia, sold
Canadian water purification systems to Cuban hospitals, in violation of the Trading with the
Enemy Act (TWEA). He was originally charged with 75 counts in violation of the TWEA and

Pros And Cons Of Repealing Obamacare
A somewhat impertinent question to the GOP: Were you lying the whole time about repealing
Obamacare? History has taught us that sometimes it s inflection points are difficult to discern in
the moment. Often it takes events around these points to provide context. Examining the past is
through the objective lens of hindsight makes it easy to determine these points, but not so for
those in the midst of them. However, one can use past events and the immutable laws of human
nature to look ahead and see if present events meet the standard of an historic turning point. In
the case of present events one can make an educated guess as to the consequences of the two
choices before you. At present the GOP has a choice to make with regard to the fiscal
abomination of Obamacare. It can either chose the path laid out for it by the Socialists on the
nation s Left and set a course towards historic oblivion. Or it can return to it s principled roots of
preserving liberty.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Christian Influence on The Middle Ages Essay
In 312 CE, Roman Emperor Constantine achieved a victory at the Milvian Bridge. The night
previous to this battle, Constantine dreamt of a cross inscribed in hoc signo vinces, in this sign you
will conquer. As trivial as this dream may seem, it ultimately signified the beginning of the rise of
Christianity. With his victory, Emperor Constantine converted to Christianityand supported and
encouraged it throughout the empire. In 313 CE, another milestone occurred as the emperors, both
Constantine Iof the West and Licinius of the East, signed the Edict of Milan declaring that the
Diocletianic Persecution would end, and Christianity would be tolerated in the Roman Empire. This
religion began to flourish as people quickly converted from pagan... Show more content on

One of the most important contributors of this time was Saint Benedict of Nursia. To guide
Christians pursuing such a life, St. Benedict wrote Regula Benedicti, The Rule of Saint Benedict.
This book was composed of precepts for monks to follow as they lived in communal monasteries
under an abbot. Ideally, poverty, chastity, and obedience were the most sought after traits that one
should follow. Saint Benedict instructed monks to participate daily in written prayers, devotionals,
manual labor, and commanded a pledge of poverty, chastity, and obedience (Benedict).
Because these rules are not just spiritually beneficial, secular impacts were gained from the
monasteries way of life. Monks became a hero of the people of the medieval times in countless
ways. These monks were examples to all of a righteous way of living. When monks devoted their
lives to God, others saw the devotion exemplified in daily life. The humility the monks strived for
implicated a humble heart , serious and humble speech , doing nothing except what is commended
by his superiors , and being content with the worst of everything (Benedict). This lifestyle could
infinitely increase the quality of life for any person as it provided an example for people to
become helpful, moral citizens, regardless of religious affiliation. As Christianity and monasteries
became more popular amongst people, monks traveled to

Uprising Dbq
Unification also comes with protection from uprising. As those who disagree with the ideology of
the rulers rise in population, a potential for a revolt increases. The laws and government structure
lent itself to those who agreed with the Papacy. As Islam had been a notorious religion for its
uprisings both in Spainand in Middle East, the potential of an uprising was quite lofty. Like the
murdering of the newborn Hebrew boys in Egypt during the biblical time of Moses, protection from
insurgency was a requirement in retaining control of the territory. Instead of murdering children,
however, the monarchs banished all religious dissidents, and violently penalized those who did not

The church in the Medieval era, however, was incredibly powerful and mostly unopposed.
Salvation, to the religious, was and remains the most important aspect of faith. Religion without a
fate after death is almost entirely hopeless and borders on nihilistic. The Catholic church used this
incessant fear to fuel their political vendettas. This is made evident by the attempted squelching of
the Reformation sparked by Martin Luther as well as the expulsion of the Moriscos, Jews, and
Protestants from Spain. The church had successfully convinced an entire continent that the only
true way to attain eternal life was through the doctrine of the church. This gave the Pope authority,

Today s Competitive Postal Service
Running Head: Today s Competitive Postal Service2 The United States Postal Service began
operations in 1971 following the passing of the Postal Reorganization Act of 1970. In the decades
that have followed, the Postal Service has tried to remain relevant in a competitive business
environment. In order to be successful at this, a revamping of the agency was necessary in order
to keep up with advances in technology used by business and individuals, and to address an overall
change in the public attitude regarding old fashioned mail services. This transformation of the
Postal Service has been successful because of progressive management and effective leadership.
Management and leadership are not the same thing, however they are interrelated and
complementary. Shafritz, Russell and Borick (2010, pp. 361 362) state, Leadership is the exercise
of authority, whether formal or informal in directing and coordinating the work of others.
Management involves power (usually formal authority) ...with the power of management comes
responsibility and accountability for the use of organizational resources. In order be transformed,
the Postal Service needed to implement new management ideas combined with the pioneering
concepts of new leadership. The power and authority to implement new ideas and provide
innovative leadership is held by the 11 member Board of Governors of the Postal Service.

Graduation Speech At Utah Valley University
Ever since I could remember my parents told me that college was key to being successful in life, if
you didn t attend a good college your life was most likely not going to be a very happy one. This
message stay throughout my life , education was of great importance and college was the key
factor of where you ended up in life. High schoolcounselors, teachers, parents, and mentors all
emphasized that the better the collegeyou attend the more opportunities you ll have. Being a high
school senior and having to think seriously about the future now, I applied for many schools and
landed at Utah Valley University, a great feeder school for Brigham Young University
. I attended
Utah Valley University for 1 semester and I really enjoyed many aspects of going to a university
but decided to go back home to orange county and attend a community college instead, Coastline
Community College. I have so far been enrolled at coastline for about a month and can see the
likenesses and the differences between the university life and the community college life. I can see
no college is alike, and that doesn t mean one college is better than another. It took transferring to a
community college to see that not even a university is better than a community college.
Utah Valley University and Coastline Community College, weren t the same type of school but
actually had quite a bit of similarities. For instance, both Utah Valley and Coastline are well known
for being great feeder schools to

  • 2. Brief Analysis Of John Steinbeck s Life And Work John Ernst Steinbeck Jr. was born on February 27, 1902 in Salinas, California. He was one of three children, and the only male, born to John Ernst Steinbeck (father) and Olive Hamilton (mother). Growing up, John s family lived in a small town where he would spend his summer working on farms and ranches. Working on the farm gave him inspiration to write about the scenery, and many times, he would write whenever he had free time in the laboratory of Spreckels Sugar Company. Seeing the migrant workers also gave John an opportunity to see the hardships and troubles that many go through just to stay in the United States, and he would use this to create stories later on in life Upon graduating high school, John decided to attend Stanford University to study English Literature. However, despite his time there, John was unable to earn a degree and was forced to look for work. New York City was his first destination, but unable to publish anything there, John moved back to California, where he would meet his first wife, Carol, while working as a tour guide and caretaker in Lake Tahoe. Eventually, in 1929, John was able to publish his first novel, Cup Of Gold, and in 1933, his novel Tortilla... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some previous recipients have included musicians Joan Baez and Jackson Browne, and filmmaker Ken Burns. The aim of this report is to provide the company with a feasibility report for the proposal expansion. The proposed expansion will require the company to have access to muesli, machinery and labour in Japan in order to produce health foods, muesli bars and other confectionary products. This report will analyse the political, economic, socio cultural, technological and legal environments (PESTL) that exists in Japan, which will then be recommended to Carmen Fine Foods whether to expand their business into Japan. • 4. The Function Of Insulin Or Rapid-Acting Insulin Analogs insulin or rapid acting insulin analogs Preparations included with phenolic excipients serves two purposes: retaining solution sterility and stabilization of the insulin molecule in the hexameric form to avoid aggregation(35). These compounds are may cause problems since they are proved to be toxic and irritant, and are being investigated for their role as sensitizers and carcinogens (36). Generally the human insulin monomers may assemble into insulin dimer and insulin hexamer which is more stable than that of dimeric form. Regarding the main function of insulin which is regulating the uptake of glucose, both insulin dimer and hexamer are inactive in biological environment. However they are much more stable from conformational viewpoint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When phenolic preservatives were depleted insulin glulisine dissociated or broke down from a structure with higher molecular weight (hexamer) structures into a number of intermediate molecular weight one, usually between monomer and hexamer, whereas insulin aspart and insulin lispro separated into monomers and dimmers. The ultimate disintegration of Insulin lispro and aspart was due to the large extent of their dissociation when they were depleted of their excipients while insulin glulisine was dissociated to intermediate molecular weight molecules in the absence of the phenol and m cresol (39). In general they concluded that insulin degradation was inversely related to the concentration of phenol and m cresol as phenolic preservatives. Tissue response and inflammation (cytotoxic effect of insulin with and without excipients) CD54, CD11b and CD14 are surface proteins considered as markers of inflammatory cell activation. Weber et al explored these markers to investigate whether the phenol and m cresol could cause the inflammatory response. In order to study the potential inflammatory effect of phenolic preservatives of insulin they selected monocytic cell line THP 1. The mentioned cell lines were exposed to sub toxic concentration of phenol and m cresol as well as insulin analogues formulation for 24 hours. Since they found that insulin with ... Tort Law Can Be Defined As An Area Of Law Tort law can be defined as an area of law that deals with the wrongful actions of an individual or entity, which cause injury to another individual s or entity s person, property, or reputation, and which entitle the injured party to compensation (Tort Law). In other words, a tort case occurs when a person has broken civil law by inflicting injury, whether physical, emotional, or that of one s reputation, onto another person. When a crime such as this has been committed, tort lawallows for the injured party, or plaintiff, to seek out compensation for the wrongs that have been committed against them (Tort Law). Later, the jewelry that was moved ended up getting stolen (B. Sexton). The defendant in this case was charged with Trespass to goods (B. Sexton). Trespass to Land tort cases occur when there has been unjustifiable interference with another s land (B. Sexton). This type of trespass can be committed negligently or accidently (B. Sexton). The final type of tort case is Products Liability. This occurs when injury or harm has been caused by a defective product (Products Liability). In this type of tort case, there are three types of product defects that cause liability issues. These are design defects, manufacturing defects, and marketing defects (Products Liability). A design defect is when the overall design of the product causes the harm or injury to the plaintiff (Products Liability). A manufacturing defect occurs during the construction or production of the product (Products Liability). In this case, only a few of the products are flawed (Products Liability). Finally, a defect in marketing occurs when harm is caused to the plaintiff because the product was not labeled with any warnings about possible dangers with use of the product (Products Liability). Even though there are six types of tort cases, torts can also be broken down into three main, general categories of torts. • 6. The Mysterious Death Of Mary Rogers Essay I ve learned from the book, The Mysterious Death of Mary Rogers by Amy Gilman Srebnick that the 19th century city is way different from today s cities. The laws weren t as strict, women weren t as conservative, and abortion was legal. The death of Mary Rogers demonstrates the reality of the middle class young women in the metropolitan areas. Mary Rogers illustrates young women during the 19th century. Her story characterizes the threats of the city and the threats of the young women during 19th century New York. Mary Rogers death maintains apprehension in regards to women s changing roles, law, and sex. This case also focuses on the overdoing of abortion during the 19th century. Mary Roger s death is a symbol for the latest developing city of this century, the fluctuating role of women, and political and social reform. In today s society the good outweighs the bad but in the 19th century, the good would have never outweighed the bad. Even though the 19th century is a different time period than today s society we still share similar characteristics. The first similarity is crimes. In today s society, we have people, doing things out of the usual norm everyday which often ends in the death of someone s loved one, and this is the same for 19th century New York. Mary Roger s... • 7. Brett Harris Autobiography Brett Harris is an irrefutable genius with amazing hair, a surplus of sass, and endless amounts of talents. I honestly think that he is the gay superman: perfectly dorky and strong, but without all of the obvious muscle and a boy magnet on top of all the perfection. He is that last puzzle piece that Lauren and I were missing from our best friendship. He drew me even further out of my shell and brought out the sass in Lauren, we in turn let him cuss like a sailor and gave him an outlet for all types of boytalk. I also provided him with hype, reminding him of how amazing a person he is and that he can do anything; both Lauren and Brett seemed to forget how impossibly wonderful they are at times, so I have made it my mission to remind them of their amazingness. If Lauren is the badass of the group, Brett is the epitome of perfection. He is immensely smart, creative in every way, has the grace of a ballet dancer, can throw shade faster than anyone, is the ultimate teacher s pet... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We have already started planning things for the beach house, although we have no idea what the heck is going on with it. Since I plan to be an architect, hopefully I will be able to design our house structures, Brett being Brett will probably have input on that too, as well as helping Lauren design and decorate the house or houses that we plan to have. Even if this plan never works out (which it will *knock on wood*) I hope that Lauren, Brett, and I will always stay in contact. • 8. Effects Of The Sauk Rapids Tornado On the afternoon of April 14, 1886, the city of Sauk Rapids in Minnesota was nearly wiped out after a tornado had struck the city. The whole city was left in complete devastation. Natural disasters have always interested me, specifically tornadoes. Something about tornadoes, whether it d be how they form or how they acquire their power to cause great destruction, interests me to learn more about tornadoes. This led me to research about tornadoes in Minnesota. As I began surfing the internet about tornadoes that occurred in Minnesota, I came across the effects that each tornadohad caused to the areas that it had struck. This is where I discovered the effects of one particular tornado called the Sauk Rapids Tornado. As I looked at the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based on this, the tornado was absolutely massive. Also, it had been reported that when the tornado crossed the Mississippi...local witnesses said the river was swept dry ... (Douglas, Paul). This tornado was really a force to be reckoned with. In the end, the Sauk Rapids tornado lasted only about thirteen minutes, but devastatingly killed 72 people and injured more than 200 and caused over $400,000 in damages. In 2015 dollars, that would be roughly $10.4 million dollars (NWS Des Moines). All of this is why the Sauk Rapids tornado became known as the deadliest tornado ever in Minnesota history. Though the Sauk Rapids tornado destroyed the city of Sauk Rapids, the city was still able to rebuild back to the community that they once were and become an even stronger city. Before the tornado struck Sauk Rapids, the city was actually going through a period of growth. Many buildings were being built such as a general store was built, then a hotel, and a large jail...new courthouse was built... (Sauk Rapids Minnesota). Sauk Rapids was building to become a successful city, but unfortunately, that wasn t able to happen because of the tornado. However, the tornado actually helped teach Sauk Rapids a valuable lesson in terms of what materials buildings should be built out of. A majority of the buildings, before the tornado had struck, in Sauk Rapids were built using wood: The original businesses...a lot of them were wood. After the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Distracted Driving, And The Dangers Of Distracted Driving In this essay it will talk about what distracted driving is and the dangers of distracted driving. Distracted driving is the act of driving while enabling yourself into other activities and not paying attention to the road or others around you. Since cars have been invented distracted driving has been around in society. People say that distracted driving is the new drunk driving, it is actually supposably more dangerous the drinking and driving. Having both of these attributes led to him being power hungry as well. For the most part Shakespeare s play focuses on the idea of Julius being power hungry for immortality. Despite his several flaws he is still able to be considered a hero for several different reasons. For one, he recognized his flaw, he was aware of what was thought of him because he saw it that way himself. As the first example, Julius had issues with his pride which is what led to his death. Before this occurred he was even warned by a crystal gazer by saying beware the ides of March. (Act 1, Scene 2, line 23) Although Caesar was warned he could careless just because his arrogance got the best of him, therefore he brushes the comment off. He had so much pride that he ignored a red flag that could have had the potential to save his life from the conspirators that were planning to kill Caesar. The authors also give plausible solutions to the problems facing America and stress the point that if something is not done now then the United Stateswill face the consequences. Is the American Century Over? by Joseph Nye argues that the American century is not over, and gives scenarios of possible consequences for America s actions. He also gives a few countries that could possible take over as the world s leading country. Both books argue that America has serious problems that it is facing today, and that if they are not addressed it could lead to the downfall of the United States. They know the potential American has, and that it is filled with creative talented and hardworking people that can accomplish almost anything if they work together (Friedman and Mandelbaum, 8). At the same time, they are frustrated because they discovered that many of those people feel that our country is not educating the workforce they need, or admitting the energetic immigrants they seek, or investing in the infrastructure they require, or funding the research they envision, or putting in place the intelligent tax laws and incentives that our competitors have installed (Friedman and Mandelbaum, 8). • 12. Personality As An Understanding Of Personality As an understanding of personality, it is said that the essential paradigms of a personality are defined by individual s characteristics and behaviour. However over a period of time an individual s personality can change due to genetics and the altering nature of the environment they are placed within. Personality is in reference to individuals variances in their patterns of feeling, thinking and behaving (Encyclopedia of Psychology: 8 Volume Set, 2000). This essay will be focusing on the basic dimensions of a personality and also the factors influencing personality change. This then will be contrasted against a study that develops that personality does not change over time. Personality not only changes over time and experience but also manipulates as the individual goes through varying facades within their life. Several personality psychologists believe that personality is defined by five dimensions as suggested by McCrae and Costa (The Big Five dimensions of personality?, V.Egan, 1988). This was found by testing the conduct group by allowing them to choose a solution to a question that the teste believed was most suitable and thus showed that the test groups had presented 5 dominant characteristics, extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness (The Big Five dimensions of personality?, V.Egan, 1988). Extroversion is looking into the individual s excitability, sociability and the high amounts of emotional expression (Very Well, 2016). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Effects Of Pivotal Response Treatment On Language Expansion Effects of pivotal response treatment on language expansion in children with autism Stock, Mirenda, and Smith (2013) compared the effectiveness of private group applied behavior analysis (GABA) and pivotal response treatment (PRT) on several domains of development in children with autism spectrum disorder. Progress and effectiveness of treatment was assessed through several measures, such as the Preschool Language Scale, the Merill Palmer Revised Scales, the Vineland Adaptive BehaviorScales, the Child Behavior Checklist, and the Parenting Stress Index Short Form. In the GABA group, intervention was individualized based on strengths and weaknesses of each child, and structured 1:1 discrete trial training as well as generalized 1:2 teaching was implemented. Target programs included imitation, manding, receptive language, object matching, adaptive skills, and social skills training. Intervention took place both in intensive teaching and natural teaching environments in a preschool like setting. Generalized ABA teaching included two children to one therapist, and the children worked on social skills. In the PRT group, individualized intervention goals focused on functional communicationskills, developmentally appropriate social and play skills, as well as adaptive skills. A major difference between the two groups was that parents were included in an active therapist role throughout intervention, and therapeutic sessions were conducted in the home and community. ... However, the poem Mushrooms by Sylvia Plath paints a picture of a story about exactly that, doing so through a subtle metaphor and simple but powerful visual imagery. Though a poem about the oppression of a group of people, it does not tell a story of despair. In fact, it s quite the opposite, speaking instead of an uprising of a different sort, of a hope as modest as the mushrooms themselves. Mushrooms may seem at first like a very peculiar thing to base an entire poem around. However, the author leaves scattered hints throughout the stanzas that this may be about more than a bunch of timid fungi. The first hint of this is in the second stanza: our toes, our noses / take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Picking out specific lines from the poem, you can tell that this is a poem of triumph, one disguised as a story of oppression much like how the simple mushrooms are disguised as soft and non intimidating. Nobody sees us / stops us, betrays us / the small grains make room. These lines on stanza three show the beginning of the mushrooms presence on the Earth, as grains of dirt part to let them through. This is only the first indication of the beginning of a revolution. One that only grows as they grow, So many of us! So many of us! the author cheers in stanza eight. The book reflects events leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917 and then on into the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union. Animal farm includes use of propaganda as well. A quote for example would be some animals are equal but some are more equal than others. I think that this book fits that quote very well as the author makes Napoleon along with Snowball are the leaders of the rebellion against Jones. Discuss The Use Of Irony In The Pardoner s Tale Grant Sauber Mr. Jason Robinson English 12 Honors 19 October 2014 Canterbury Tales Essay The use of irony has had a profound effect on the world of literature as it is seen in The Canterbury Tales. Irony can help shape the reader s perception on the theme of the novel as a whole. Throughout the tales, Chaucer subtly uses irony to criticize different aspects of his society. This irony is namely used in The General Prologue , The Pardoner s Tale , and The Miller s Tale . Therefore, by looking at these various tales in the novel, one can see how Chaucer uses irony to critique society. One way that Chaucer uses this irony is in The General Prologue when he describes all the different characters. This allows him to interject various facts... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In short, the Pardoner s tale was a lesson. Chaucer uses The Pardoner s Tale to reveal the hypocrisy of the Pardoner himself in multiple cases. Mostly in all of these cases, the Pardoner does not practice the same things that he preaches against. He also has an unusual pride, rather than remorse, in his corrupt behavior. For example, we know from The General Prologue to The Pardoner s Tale that the Pardoner strongly believes that all evil comes from greed or the desire for wealth. However, the Pardoner later states, I will have money, wool, and cheese, and wheat, though it be given by the poorest page, or by the poorest widow in the village, and though her children perish of famine. This statement expresses how the Pardoner is revealing his own hypocrisy. He preaches that all evil comes from greed, but then he goes right out and talks about how he will have money for things he wants such as wool and cheese even if it requires him to take money from the very poor. The Pardoner s Tale itself also talks about how greed can lead to evil, since the three men all plotted to kill others just for the sole purpose of wealth. This makes it unusual that the Pardoner would tell this tale since he didn t demonstrate not being greedy for money himself. This is the irony that Chaucer was looking for in this tale, which helps to further enhance his viewpoint on the church. However, this is not the only aspect of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. How Technology Is Affecting Families October 13, 2015 my group class and I went to Galleria to observe the people. After watching several families I came to the conclusion that technology is affecting families, during the observation families were more on their cell phones stead of having a conversation with their families. The family look as if they were stranger. They look with a very serious look. They did not take the time to have a conversation. One of the kid was in his phone most of the time when he was with his family. I was surprise because the parents did not said anything not even the parents took time to ask or said anything. The table was in silent they just were looking around. Is very hard to understand that the family that I observe did not make no connection. It was not the only family that didn t not have not communication there was few more. My motheris a very old schoolwhen we are with the family she doesn t want us in the phones or computers she said that family time is family time. I think that my mom is right because most of the time we work and go to school. Most of the family don t have the time to have a conversation with their families for the same reason because everyone is busy with work. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

HSV 1 is the type that usually causes cold sores or fever blisters around your mouth. HSV 2 is the type that commonly causes genital herpes. The virus spreads through sexual contact and skin to skin contact. HSV 2 is very common and highly contagious, whether or not you have an open sore (Aurelius, p. 3). Genital Herpes is more commonly caused by HSV 2 but is known to be caused by HSV 1. Oral Herpes is known to be caused by both variations of the virus but most commonly by HSV 1. When I said goodbye to my choir teacher, it opened my eyes to how influential she was. Jami Lercher pursued the job of my choir teacher freshman and sophomore year at Roseville Area High School. She played a significant role in my life as my mentor and a great friend. She also invited me to join her outside of schoolchoir, VOX and we grew even closer through that experience. Everywhere she went, merriment and exhilaration followed her. She assisted me with the ability to read notes and read music. Unfortunately, the jubilance of the choir department would come to a halt. Mrs. Lercher received the opportunity of a lifetime and was accepted into the university of MiamiFlorida to pursue her doctorate degree. She would depart from RAHS, taking that merriment and exhilaration with her to Miami that she had constructed for the choir department. The choir students were grieving, but we supported her decision and knew that this would aid her immensely when she would come back to teach. The night I said goodbye to Mrs. Lercher was a night of waterworks, compliments and the hardships of expressing our goodbyes. King Lear Tragic Hero Essay A tragic hero is said to be an imperfect character of noble stature, a character with a downfall caused by an error of judgement which is not deserved, and a self realization from the downfall. King Lear from the play King Lear fits this description of a tragic hero. King Lear is a tragic play written by Shakespeare. King Lear is depicted as a tragic herobecause of his high status, his downfall which was caused by himself, and his realization from his downfall. King Lear is portrayed as a tragic hero partially because of his imperfectness. Throughout the play, King Lear makes many mistakes, which show his imperfections. His mistakes eventually led to his insanity. He does not even want ot go insane. He says, O, let me not be mad, not mad, sweet heaven keep me in temper: I would not be mad! (I v 1 2). He did this by choice, not knowing how evil two of his daughters, Goneril and Regan, really were and how they did not actually love him. His obliviousness was his flaw and trusted his daughters too much. However, King Lear disowned his youngest daughter, Cordelia, even though she was the one who love him most. Lear is outraged when she does not tell him how much she loves him. King Lear says Ingratitude, thou marble hearted fiend, more hideous when thou show st thee in a child than the sea monster! He blames others for his mistreatment and prefers to avoid them. Don Pedro shows different feelings with regard to people as he said, Thou wilt be like a lover presently and tire the hearer with a book of words. Looking at the countries that have gender inequalities, I can see why they are not moving towards sustainability. In this essay, I will be providing detailed examples of how different countries treat their women and wives. In some countries, women and wives don t have the right to travel without their husband or their closest male relative s permission. In Egypt, Bahrain, and Syria, it is the husband s right to stop their wives from traveling out of the country. All the husband needs to do is file a complaint at the airport to prevent his wife from leaving the country. The husband doesn t even need to give the airport any reason for why he doesn t want his wife traveling. In other countries like Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, Oman, and Yemen, the husband needs to provide written permission for their wives to travel. Lastly in Saudi Arabia, for an unmarried woman to travel they must have written permission from their closest male relative. This written permission is for leaving the country or traveling on public transportation between the different parts of the country. In South Asia and Sub Saharan Africa, forty percent of women are married before their 18th birthday. The women don t have the right to choice their husbands. Which side is right and which side is in the wrong? Is it fair for an American subsidiary operating in Canada to be held accountable for what some view as archaic U.S. laws that forbid any trade with Cuba? The night previous to this battle, Constantine dreamt of a cross inscribed in hoc signo vinces, in this sign you will conquer. As trivial as this dream may seem, it ultimately signified the beginning of the rise of Christianity. With his victory, Emperor Constantine converted to Christianityand supported and encouraged it throughout the empire. In 313 CE, another milestone occurred as the emperors, both Constantine Iof the West and Licinius of the East, signed the Edict of Milan declaring that the Diocletianic Persecution would end, and Christianity would be tolerated in the Roman Empire. To guide Christians pursuing such a life, St. Benedict wrote Regula Benedicti, The Rule of Saint Benedict. This book was composed of precepts for monks to follow as they lived in communal monasteries under an abbot. Because these rules are not just spiritually beneficial, secular impacts were gained from the monasteries way of life. Monks became a hero of the people of the medieval times in countless ways. These monks were examples to all of a righteous way of living. When monks devoted their lives to God, others saw the devotion exemplified in daily life. The humility the monks strived for implicated a humble heart , serious and humble speech , doing nothing except what is commended by his superiors , and being content with the worst of everything (Benedict). The laws and government structure lent itself to those who agreed with the Papacy. As Islam had been a notorious religion for its uprisings both in Spainand in Middle East, the potential of an uprising was quite lofty. Like the murdering of the newborn Hebrew boys in Egypt during the biblical time of Moses, protection from insurgency was a requirement in retaining control of the territory. Instead of murdering children, however, the monarchs banished all religious dissidents, and violently penalized those who did not conform to the various whims of the church. Salvation, to the religious, was and remains the most important aspect of faith. Religion without a fate after death is almost entirely hopeless and borders on nihilistic. The Catholic church used this incessant fear to fuel their political vendettas. This is made evident by the attempted squelching of the Reformation sparked by Martin Luther as well as the expulsion of the Moriscos, Jews, and Protestants from Spain. The church had successfully convinced an entire continent that the only true way to attain eternal life was through the doctrine of the church. This gave the Pope authority, power, and uncontested control over the Christian people, for a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This message stay throughout my life , education was of great importance and college was the key factor of where you ended up in life. High schoolcounselors, teachers, parents, and mentors all emphasized that the better the collegeyou attend the more opportunities you ll have. Being a high school senior and having to think seriously about the future now, I applied for many schools and landed at Utah Valley University, a great feeder school for Brigham Young University . I attended Utah Valley University for 1 semester and I really enjoyed many aspects of going to a university but decided to go back home to orange county and attend a community college instead, Coastline Community College. I have so far been enrolled at coastline for about a month and can see the likenesses and the differences between the university life and the community college life. I can see no college is alike, and that doesn t mean one college is better than another. It took transferring to a community college to see that not even a university is better than a community college. Utah Valley University and Coastline Community College, weren t the same type of school but actually had quite a bit of similarities. For instance, both Utah Valley and Coastline are well known for being great feeder schools to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
