4. RESPONSIBILITIESOF NURSE ADMINISRATORS/HEAD NURSES
• Accountable for maintaining adequate equipment and supplies in the
ward for better patient care
• Responsible for keeping an adequate amount of equipment and supplies in
the wards for delivering nursing services
• Formulates and maintains policy about procurement, inventory control,
maintenanace and condemnation
• He/she should have a sound knowledge of the requirements of materials
in each unit under his or her department.
5. RESPONSIBILITIES OF NURSE ADMINISRATORS/HEAD NURSES
• Forecast the demands of supplies and equipments every year and should
submit request for purchase.
• Responsible for coordinating all departments regarding purchase and
utilization of materials
• Partcipate in the planning process of material management and ensure
the procurement of quality materials.
6. RESPONSIBILITIES OF NURSE ADMINISRATORS/HEAD NURSES
• He/she is involved in material planning along with top level management
and the purchasing committee. Ensure the quality and standard of the
materials
• .He/she ensures that records of supplies and equipments are accurate. It
should be checked periodically.
• Give feedback about the materials, regarding functioning and quality to
the purchase department.
7. Ward sister/Head nurse or senior nursing officer
• Head nurses play a key role in the management of materials for giving
patient care.
• Head nurses are responsible for providing adequate materials for the
proper functioning of the ward.
• Follow the hospital policy for purchase, inventory, maintenance and
condemnation of equipment and supplies.
• Make sure that the equipment and supplies are properly placed in the
store. Follow the principle of first in first out.
8. • Head nurses should make sure that staff working in ward know the
economic use of materials.
• Arrange sessions to educate staff in the ward about the economic use of
supplies and equipment.
• The nurses must be vigilant and prevent the misuse of materials.
• Maintain proper inventory control by giving the responsibility to senior
staff nurse.
9. • Teach nursing personnel regarding the safe and economic usage of materials and
to prevent wastage or misuse of materials.
• Maintain records and registers up to date for evaluation and audit.
• Check equipment periodically and maintain registers.
