The Alleviation Of Poverty And The Complete Eradication Of...
The alleviation of poverty and the complete eradication of financial constraints among most
individuals are two important processes that strive towards the achievement of a better life. The
inclusion of income security programs in the federal policies and programs of most governments is
supposed to protect its citizens from impoverished situations once they grow older. This paper is a
brief essay that discuses one income security program (Canada Pension Plan) that affects life in a day
to day manner in specific focus to the country of Canada.
The Canada Pension Plan is one of the income security programs set up by the government in order to
assist its citizens to save for their future (Gros et al, 2013). As a college student living within the
Canadian community, this program has numerous benefits to financial future. To begin with, the CPP
allows individuals to make contributions early in life and then begin to receive monthly payments
once individual touch the age of sixty. However, there are some factors that may influence the process
of policy making for this income security program. One of the factors that affect CPP is the salary and
remuneration one receives (Hemmeter, 2015). This is because the pension is deducted from the salary
based on the earnings that one makes.
According to Steve Hick, income security programs are mainly devised to save Canadians from
unexpected economy circumstances that could arise and interrupt their lives (2013, p. 3). Historically,

Question 1: 1. Kenny and Duke must register this business name. According to the Business Names
Act, 2002, the legislation states that it is compulsory to register a business name where a person,
including a company, wishes to use a name other than their own.

* Two parallel transverse lines across the face of the cheque with the words not negotiable between

Where a cheque bears not only two parallel transverse lines but also the words not negotiable between
them, the cheque can still be transferred but it cannot be negotiated . This means that the transferee
does not receive and is not capable of giving a better title to the cheque than the transferor had. The
effect of crossing a cheque not negotiable is to warn the transferee that their title is subject to prior
defects in title. The Nemo dat rule is reimposed.
Question 3: 1. The term title refers to a person s rights to ownership of property. When we say a
person has title to land, we mean that they own it. The main system of land title in Australia, including
New South Wales, is Torrens title. This form of title replaced the old system title, inherited from
England under the doctrine of reception.
The Torrens title is a system of title based on registration. This means

I Was A Strange Person
I was a strange person. Most view themselves as being strange, but I was constantly pointed out as
being very, very strange. Well, firstly, I was commonly considered an anti vegan. Well, I did eat my
greens, MOM, but still I always ended up eating the mean before the green stuff. And after. And in
between. All right, I didn t eat that much greens, but... ok, I have no excuse.
Anyhow, it started in the twenty first of may. I was just out in the sun as usual, lying comfortably on a
patch of grassy grass grass. I like grass, sure, but id never eat the stuff. I mean, why would you ever
eat something GREEN? Man, what a strange thing to do.
As I was lying there, absorbed in the thought of how human emotion works, I noticed something in
the bright sky. Something seemed to be... falling? Well, there was a blob of smoke behind it, so it must

Manic Depression Chapter Summaries
The book starts out with Kay running around the hospital parking lot with her colleague. The cops
caught them and he jokingly stated that they just got hired in the psychiatric department. Kay had to
battle many thoughts, but one thing she wanted to do was make sure her struggle was known. She
wanted people to know of her struggle with manic depression, and help people with a similar struggle
in life. Kay says this herself, I am tired of hiding, tired of misspent and knotted energies, tired of the
hypocrisy, and tired of acting as though I have something to hide. When Kay was in first grade she
witnessed a plane crash during recces. She also got to volunteer at the hospital. The doctors would
invite her to watch surgeries. Her home life was kind of sad due to the fact that her dad also
experienced manic depression. He would have struggles when he would only want to sleep the day
away. Other times, he would be mad. The way Kay had to deal with growing up with her father s
struggle with manic depression helped shaped how she would respond to her own struggle with manic
depression. Kay s family moved to California when she was a teenager. She would drink alcohol
before class in high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The debt she owed from the clinic was quickly paid off by a series of concerts. The concerts ended up
being all over the country. The performers in the concert are people who have suffered with manic
depression. Kay meets a David. He is from England. Even though she is still married to her husband,
but separated she waits to go out with David. She was hiding the fact that she lived with manic
depression until she ended up dropping all of her lithium tablets. The Lithium tablets had been helping
her. She ends up telling David about her condition, and they end up growing closer. They grew closer
in her weakness. David ends up dying at the age of

starting to get rathe busy for me. However, for the most part the assignments and midterm are not
something to concerning to me. Basically this is because thankfully, it is something that i have already

only issue at the moment that concerns me is ensuring to keep my personal political views seperate
from my political science class assignments. Mainly just due to the fact that as someone who beleives

The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association
The question of whether the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) should separate
public and private schools into their own divisions has been a topic of discussion for years. As a
product of 14 years of Catholic education, I was fortunate enough to be able to participate in athletics
during my high school career. Many of the teams that we played were public school teams from small
communities where athletics were almost more important than an education. Unfortunately, I have
witnessed firsthand the animosity that has surfaced between public and private schools.
The PIAA is the governing body of high school sports in the state of Pennsylvania. The PIAA was
founded in 1913 and initially included only public schools as members. Parochial and private schools
were admitted to the PIAA in the late 1970 s. In 1997, the PA Charter School Act was passed which
allowed for the creation of charter schools. The emergence of charter schools, particularly in the
Philadelphia area, created even greater animosity between private and public schools. The
Philadelphia schools, many of which are charter schools, were not members of the PIAA until 2003.
Their athletic success at the state championship level has raised many concerns from the public sector.
The primary problem that the PIAA faces today is the dominance of private schools winning the
majority of state titles in all sports. Public schools have geographic boundaries that determine the
school a student must

The Age Of Faith In The Middle Ages
The Middle Ages came right after the fall of the Roman Empire because of its lack of centralized
religion and its inability to deal with the raids of the nomadic and germanic tribes. Compared to all the
revolutionary advancements of the Roman Empire, many considered the Middle Ages to be a big step
back in lifestyle, education and technological advancements. The The Middle Ages have been defined
as many things. It has been called the Age of Feudalism, The Golden Age, and the Dark Ages.
However, the Age of Faith is a more accurate title, because during the Middle Ages the church was the
main source of unity in Europe, the church was viewed as the most important and powerful part of
Europe, even more powerful than the kings and governments, and finally the Age is Faith is a more
accurate title because people followed the church no matter what, even through situations as extreme
as the Crusades.
The first reason The Age of Faith is the most accurate title is that during the Middle Ages the church
was the main source of unity in Europe. For example the chart of a manor during the Middle Ages
shows that a chapel was the only thing that every single manor had (Document 2). A chapel was the
one thing that connected every manor. Also according to the excerpt from the museum The Roman
Catholic Church was the single most unifying structure in Europe. It touched everyone s life, no
matter what their rank or class was or where they lived (Document 3). This shows another example of

Although what these men did for the game was so significant, life wasn t easy for them. Jackie and
Larry received countless death threats, endured nonstop racism, and heard many epithets. Robinson
later went on to be named the first rookie of the year. The award is now given in his name.
In 1946, the same year Robinson broke the baseball color barrier, the football barrier was broken. Paul
Brown, founder, part owner, and coach of the Cleveland Browns fielded a team with two black
players, Bill Willis and Marion Motley. After Paul Brown s bold move, the NFL agreed to allow black
players to be a part of the game too, with the Browns being the first team to follow through.
Not only do these two men have a great impact on the game of baseball, but also other popular
American sports. Four years after Robinson broke the baseball color barrier, Earl Lloyd became the
first black to play in the National Basketball Association. Lloyd played college ball at West Virginia
State and went on to be drafted in the ninth round of the 1950 NBA draft. He and 3 others were
selected into the NBA at the same time, but because of scheduling, Lloyd was the first to play a game

Essay about The Faith of Mary Rowlandson
The Faith of Mary Rowlandson In her writing titled A Narrative of the Captivity and Restauration of
Mrs. Mary Rowlandson , Mary lies out for the reader her experience of being held in captivity by
Indians during the King Philip s War. Perhaps one of the most significant aspects of this writing is the
glimpse that the reader gets into Rowlandson s faith and religion. Faith was a major aspect of life in
the Colonial Period. It was of widespread belief that God was to be feared, and that he was the only
way to redemption (Kizer). Mary Rowlandson was no different, but the extreme conditions of her
captivity caused her faith to occasionally waiver. Most of the time throughout her journey in captivity,
she depended on God, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She writes And here I cannot but take notice of the strange providence of God in preserving the
heathen... (Rowlandson 450). At this point Mary cannot seem to help but to contemplate why God is
allowing the Indians to prevail in this war. There was no denying the stark differences between the
victories of the English and the Indians. Consider the fact that the Puritans were Christians of the
strictest variety, and they did not believe that the Indians were blessed with God s grace. It is quite
understandable then that Mary would find it troubling that her people were suffering devastating
effects of this war fought by people who were not even Christians. So she questions whether or not
this is God s work. In the end she concludes that God is not helping the Indians, rather he knows that
the English are not ready for his mercy, and her faith is restored once again (Rowlandson 450). As
Mary s story unravels, she continues to suffer long hours of work, starvation, and separation from her
family. She reads her holy bible and is constantly reminding herself that God is with her and will see
her through these trials. Her spirits are lifted her master agrees to sell Mary to her husband, and her
mistress begins the journey with her, but before long the mistress decides not to go any further and
they turn back. Not long after, she starts to loose hope that she will ever be reunited with her family.
She becomes discouraged, and her spirit

Iliopsoa Research Paper
The iliopsoas is actually two muscles, the psoas major and the iliacus. They originate in different
areas, but come together to form a tendon, hence why they are commonly referred to as one muscle.
Unlike many of the anterior thigh muscles, the iliopsoas does not extend the leg at the knee joint. The
psoas major originates from the lumbar vertebrae, and the iliacus originates from the iliac fossa of the
pelvis. They insert together onto the lesser trochanter of the femur. The iliopsoas flexes the lower limb
at the hip joint and assists in lateral rotation at the hip joint. The psoas major is innervated by anterior

The quadriceps femoris is the main extensor of the knee. This muscle also influences our form in
many other types of movement, depending on how weak or how tight this group of muscles may
be.Because the iliopsoas muscles work when you lift your leg toward your torso, the lying leg raise is
an example of how you can strengthen the iliopsoas. Perform this exercise with or without weights. To
begin, lie on your back with your legs extended.Tight iliopsoas muscles are associated with lower
back discomfort because the muscles pull on the pelvis and affect range of motion in the lower back.
After you work to strengthen the iliopsoas muscles, stretch them to minimize muscle tension. The
iliacus originates in the iliac fossa of the pelvis. The psoas major unites with the iliacus at the level of
the inguinal ligament and crosses the hip joint to insert on the lesser trochanter of the femur. The
iliopsoas is involved in flexion and lateral rotation (supination) of the thigh. The psoas is a deep seated
core muscle connecting the lumbar vertebrae to the femur. The psoas major is the biggest and
strongest player in a group of muscles called the hip flexors: together they contract to pull the thigh

Cases for Analysis ~ Aquarius Advertising Agency
CASES FOR ANALYSIS ~ AQUARIUS ADVERTISING AGENCY
1. Analyze Aquarius with respect to the five contextual variables. How would you describe the
environment, goals, culture, size, and technology for Aquarius? ANSWER: Aquarius is a middle sized
firm operating in a relatively unstable environment, particularly because in the industry it was
common to lose or gain clients quickly because of consumer behavior changes or product innovation,
sometimes with no advance warning. The technology is predominantly nonroutine because of the
emphasis on creativity and art. The structure is functional with full time integrators who provide
horizontal linkage. The goals of the firm are to be creative and to satisfy customers. 2. Design a new
organization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why or why not? ANSWER: To determine whether a matrix structure is feasible now, or will be
feasible in the future, students should examine the requirements for a matrix. Is there a dual domain
competitive issue? Perhaps, in this case. Service and creativity require technical competence within
each function, and yet at the same time, effective coordination across functions. Is the environment
uncertain? Overall, there is potential for rapid environmental change. The environment of an
advertising agency is not as uncertain, and does not have as great a potential for instability as the
environment of computer chip manufacturers, but nevertheless the environment is relatively uncertain.
Customers change agencies frequently, and employees drift from agency to agency. New
developments and techniques occur in the industry s technology. Is there a need to share resources
across project or product lines? Yes, one of the problems of moving to a hybrid structure with account
executives serving as the focus of line authority is the tremendous duplication of functional resources.
Unless an agency is extremely large, it cannot afford to have separate teams of art, copy,
merchandising, media, and research specialists for every account executive. This is an example of the
need for shared resources that typifies a matrix structure. Thus a matrix structure might be feasible for
Aquarius Advertising. But in this situation, matrix is not the

80s Research Paper
Hey guys, Sophie Jeffrey here for Channel [V]. Welcome back to another segment of Songs of My
Generation . This week we ll take a look back at the totally tubular 80s. The 80s was full of many
things: Rubik s Cubes, Wrestling, Pac Man, Lip Smackers, Nintendo, skateboarding, roller skating,
Horror films, the BratPack, connect four, Tupperware parties, pop rocks, Weird Al Yankovic, who s
currently making a comeback FYI... and the list goes on! Horror films made their way onto the scene
in the 80s with thousands flocking to movie theatres to see the latest scary flick. The 80 s are to thank
for some of the popular fashion trends we still see today: RayBans, Doc Martens, bright colours and
denim jackets, but while some of the fashion trends found in the 80s soared, others, like leg warmers,
spandex, shoulder pads, parachute pants, mullets, perms, sweaters around the waist, big hair bows, all
definitely proved that with the good always comes the bad. This was a decade full of new and
advancing technology: out with the old and in with the new! The 80s said goodbye to cassette tapes
and boom boxes and hello to compact discs and Sony Walkman s, taking the first step in redefining
the music industry. Ladies and Gentlemen, Rock and Roll, these were the first words uttered on what
was to become one of the most iconic and popular TV channels, MTV. It would continue to dominate

Negative Impact Of Video Games
Video games can sometimes get a bad reputation but due to contrary belief, video games have been a

If you don t know, esports are multiplayer video games played competitively for spectators, typically
by professional gamers. It is broadcast worldwide similar to any major sports competition. The esports

competition has 27 million viewers. Based on an article by Ben Casselman on ESPN, in 2014 this was
the second most watched event on ESPN in 2014. Video games are growing fast. Also in 2014, the
video game industry alone added $6.2 billion to the U.S. Economy, providing approximately 146,000

The Vanity of Human Wishes: The Vanity of Human Wishes

The Poem
Samuel Johnson s The Vanity of Human Wishes imitates, as its subtitle states, Juvenal s tenth satire.
The 368 lines of iambic pentameter in rhymed couplets do not claim to provide an exact translation
but rather to apply the poem to eighteenth century England. While Johnson therefore feels free to
modernize the allusions, he follows his model closely. The poem opens with the proposition that
people ask for the wrong things and points out the folly of the first common request, riches. An
interlude follows during which the poet invokes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This avian imagery is more explicit earlier in the poem when he describes Rebellion s vengeful talons
[that seize] on Laud (line 168).
Johnson constructs his argument through synecdoche, offering a few examples to stand for the infinite
number of wishes one might make. So, too, the few people cited suggest the many others the reader
can imagine.
Preferring the general to the specific, Johnson finds synecdoche a convenient device for description.
He does not paint a beautiful face but offers rosy lips and radiant eyes (line 323). The gifts of nature
are suggested by The fruits autumnal, and the vernal flower (line 262).
Personification abounds from the first line, in which Observation surveys humankind, to the last:
Wisdom calms the mind/ And makes the happiness she does not find (lines 367 368). Hope, fear,
desire, and hate spread their snares. Preferment has a gate, History speaks, Pride and Prudence take
her [Virtue s] seat in vain (line 336). Like synecdoche, this device keeps the poem at the level of
general truth that the author seeks. As he would write a decade later in The History of Rasselas, Prince
of Abyssinia (1759), The business of the poet...is to examine, not the individual but the species; to
remark general properties and large appearances. Much of the poem s power derives from the strong

The Principles And Practices Of Differential Diagnosis Of...
A disorder in bilinguals is not caused by bilingualism or cured by monolingualism (Kohnert, 2013). A
common misconception about bilingual children is that the acquisition of subsequent languages causes
or exacerbates a speech sound disorder. I intended to prove that this is not the case. In order to do this
I will firstly clarify the principles and practices of differential diagnosis of Speech Sound Disorders
and the possible models used. I then intend to compare and contrast monolingualism and bilingualism
with reference to Speech Sound disorders. Throughout, I will relate the information back to Jane and
the data provided before finally discussing possible assessments for Jane.
What is a Speech Sound Disorder? There is a myriad of definitions and ways to describe disordered
speech. To put it simply; speech is the physical production of sounds through a series of air pressure
waves in the vocal tract. A disorder is a difficulty or the manner in which speech is not found in
typically developing children (Pert Stow, 2015). The term Speech Sound Disorder is very much a
generic label. It encompasses a heterogeneous population including children whose speech is
intelligible but may have a lisp. It also includes those whose speech is incomprehensible due to
omissions and substitutions of certain phonemes and people born with anatomical abnormalities such
as cleft palate. (Dodd, Differential Diagnosis and Treatment of Children With Speech Disorder, 2005)

Comparing Aristotle s 8
Now the question is what values should one have to rule, what makes them qualified compared to
others. Plato outlines the different aspects of government and why he believes an aristocracy would be
better form of government. In book 8 Socrates starts to wrap up his depiction of a just city. He starts to
break down the four unjust constitutions of the city and man. Timocracy, which is represented by the
honor driven man who resembles and rules that sort of government. There is an oligarchy, ruled by a
man driven by his necessary appetites. Democracy, in which the man is controlled by unnecessary
appetites. And finally there is tyranny, which the man is driven by unlawful appetites. Socrates
towards the end of book 8 break down how all these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In book 9 Plato discusses the aspects of the tyrannical man. He mentions that the tyrants are someone
who is consumed by lawless desires. One question I have is the tyrannical man destined to be a tyrant
because he has a noble democratic father? These desires lead men towards ghastly, shameless,
criminal actions that are particularly bad for someone in an position of power. Socrates offers an
example of a lawless desire is the desire to sleep with one s mother, something that is horrible to do in
any society. It is made clear that all of us have lawless desires, which is indubitably true. The proof is
that these desires occasionally come out at night, in our dreams, when the rational part of us is not on
guard. But only the tyrannical man allows these desires to emerge in life while he is awake during the
day. Plato s description continues, the tyrannical man is the son of the democratic man. His father is
not lawless, but he does indulge unnecessary desires. Just like the father, the son is exposed to drones,
men with lawless desires. However the father had his own oligarchic father s thriftiness to pull him
toward the middle road of democracy. This is crucial for the balance one must have to be a ruler in
society. Now this son brought up on the democratic ethos, moves further toward lawlessness. The
father and entire household try to win him back, but the ultimate triumph of the lawless is inevitable.

The Horrors Of Historical Events
Through art, the problems we face, the history we experience, and the details of our surroundings
become encapsulated within a larger narrative for others to view and experience. The creation of art
deals a great deal not only with the emotions of an individual, but also the audience the piece is
directed at and the points it desires to make. Anselm Kiefer, a neoclassicist artist who was born at the
tail end of World War II, made large paintings with a variety of included forms in order to describe the
horrors of historical events. His work Burning Rods serves as painting both to acknowledge
Chernobyl itself, but also to visually document the destruction its failure caused. Within the 1900 s,
several periods of destruction ravaged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This moment in history was all about the threat of nuclear technology and its destructive powers, but
Kiefer saw that this technology had a fusing power as well and chose to use this in many of his pieces
during this time. He saw the technology as both a positive advancement within society with its ability
to create change and fuel society, however the destructive capabilities equally influenced his work. He
acknowledged the dangers of nuclear technology while reveling in the hope the same advancements
created, studying the multifaceted narrative of the advancement within his paintings.
The destruction of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, ...considered the largest nuclear accident in the
world, has had an enormous impact on the population and environment of many countries that has yet

Funerals In Ancient Roman Funerals
During all parts of the existence of Rome, burials and funerals were extremely important, even more
so than weddings. The Romans believed that without a proper burial, a spirit would cause unhappiness
for those living. While rites varied throughout different periods, traditions remained vastly, and always
had the same importance. Funeral ceremonies were extremely elaborate, especially for upper class
citizens. Funerals had five parts in Ancient Rome; the procession, the cremation and burial, the eulogy,
the feast, and the commemoration. Ceremonies began closely after death, as soon as all necessary
preparations were made. At the home, the deceased s body would be washed with warm water and
then anointed. If the deceased person had held office, a wax impression of his features would be taken.
Next, the body would be dressed in in a toga with all the regalia of the rank he was allowed to wear.
Incense would be burned and pine woul dbe places outside the door to signify death in the house. In
early and late times, when burial was more popular than cremation, a coing would be placed in
between the teeth of the deceased, as payment for Charon, the ferryman of the underworld. These rites
were simplified in poorer funerals, as well as done by a family member. However, for the rich, an
undertaker, or designator, would do so().
The funeral procession took up the bulk of the ceremony, and stretched from the deceased s home all
the way to their grave. Graves were not allowed to be

German Expressionism In Tim Burton s Corpse Bride
The history of cinematography has increased enormously since the birth of the first motion picture.
Numerous of styles, techniques and technology have been introduced to make films like they have
never been seen before. From the invention of the camera obscura, to the introduction of CGI
technology, the film industry has tremendously grown and has allowed for the generating of ideas to
become easier than ever. The creation of film has allowed talented directors, screenwriters and
producers to express their ideas and creativity onto the form of movies, allowing different films to

The art of animation was first introduced as early as the 1900 s. Since technology did not allow for
advanced types of animation to be produced, it was extremely limited in its early days. One of the first
people to gain popularity over their animation films was Walt Disney, who was an important influence
on Burton s film making. Moreover, in Corpse Bride, Burton and his crew provide a scene very
similar to Disney s 1929 s short film The Skeleton Dance. Special choreography was taken
particularly from the short and was incorporated into Corpse Bride giving it an old fashioned, but
enjoyable touch. Even though Disney s family friendly cartoons served as an enormous influence on
Burton s decision to start producing children s animation films, Claymation is the true type of
animation Burton uses in Corpse Bride. Claymation is a form of animation using special techniques to
snap different frames at once to allow it to produce an animated effect called slow motion animation.
Many contemporary animators adhere to Claymation due to its unique and realistic characteristics.
Films that use Claymation animation include modern movies such as Coraline (2009) or even older
films such as Gumbasia (1955). Due to the extensive amount of work and time each Claymation film
requires, there were very few created in the earlier years of the movie industry; However, that is

Great Expectations for All Essay
Introduction
As humans grow up, they must all experience the awkward phase of the teen years, as they leave
behind childhood for adulthood. In these times of transformations, one often finds themselves marred
by the wicked ways of naïve love and the humiliation many experience. In Charles Dickens novel
Great Expectations, one is able to watch an innocent boy s transformation into a mature gentleman
who is still a child at heart. Pip is plagued with the daunting responsibilities of adulthood and deciding
where his loyalties lay. Torn between the alluring world of the rich and his roots in a destitute village,
Pip must make a decision.
In his early existence, extraordinary young Pip lives in impoverished house in Kent, England with his

Charles Dickens wrote Great Expectations in small installments in London between 1860 and 1861.
These increments were not accumulated as a book until early 1861, when they were published in
America and in London. Money was often a source of conflict Dickens was constantly running astray
on debts so in an ingenious scheme, he was paid by the word (Landow). Great Expectations is a

Scholarly Article
The main assertion of the Van brunt s article is that Dickens tries to redefine the gender roles of the
Victorian era, but he still describes his characters in their respective gendered spheres. The portrayal
of gender roles throughout Great Expectations undermines the Victorian era indoctrinated gender roles
(Alexa Van brunt). Van brunt argues that as Dickens twists the roles of motherhood and femininity to
produce warped relationships that mar pitiful Pip s life. The early Victorian era is remembered as an
era of strict archetypes for each gender. Women were often confined to the home and were
characterized by nurturing, emphatic, submissive attributes.
Unfortunately brunt only focuses on the female charters of the novel and ignores the transformation of
the male s roles in

Leadership Concepts Of The Film Nemo
In this paper I will identify and explain the leadership concepts that I learned in this class using
characters from the film Finding Nemo. To do so I will provide examples of transformative leadership
and describe the impact it had on others. I will also explain how the characters acquired their
leadership effectiveness by identifying experiences that were instrumental in their leadership
development.
Transformative Leaders The three characters in the film Finding Nemo that displayed transformative
leadership are Marlin, Dory and Gill. Marlin0020goes on a journey to find his lost son Nemo. While
on his journey Marlin experiences many challenges and meets new friends. Marlin learns that he no
longer needs to be afraid, and that he can be a leader. Along the way Marlin meets Dory, who joins
him on his journey. She is a very positive fish who suffers from short term memory loss. Dory always
maintains a positive attitude, calms Marlin as he becomes upset and helps Marlin become more
positive as well (Bennis, 2009). Throughout the movie Dory shows Marlin that he can trust her. Dory
easily adjusts to new situations and thinks outside of the box which contributes to Marlin being
reunited with Nemo. As Dory and Marlin s journey nears the end Marlin begins to have a lot of
respect and trust for Dory. Gill is also a transformative leader. Nemo met Gill in the fish tank at the
dentist s office after he was captured. Nemo was very scared and unfamiliar with his new

Red Dog Film Analysis
The world is a funny place, no? Sometimes you pick your dog. Sometimes your dog picks you. Good
morning ladies and gentlemen for the AFC, and the quote you have just heard is from the Australian
film Red dog and is stated to be one of the most powerful quotes in Australian theatre. Australian film
has been around for many years and of those years there have been many examples of what some
might like to call a masterpiece. Some of these films include the Mad Max series, Gallipoli, Crocodile
Dundee but of these films, the film that stands out the most to audiences is the movie Red dog. Red
dog is directed by Australian producer Kriv Stenders and was made in 2011. The story takes place
during the 1970 s so one would expect to view various counts of racism and sexism but there was no
evidense of these themes ever showing as the dialogue had been written for a G rating. It was as if the
whole production has had its mouth washed out with soap by there mother for cursing. The reason this
film was successful to most was because of the message it portrayed as the movie was based around a
young Australian Kelpie named Red dog and how he united a fractured community while searching
for his master. The movie is highly regarded today as of the best Australian films as it brings all
Australian values to the table. The main reason for the audiences love for this film is because of its
portrayal of a character s loyalty, mateship and the Australian Landscape and this is what occurs
throughout the film.
Mateship is a big part of Australian culture as us as Australians live and breathe the words of
friendship and that is why this film is so successful, because it brought an un unlikely hero and made
the character bond with an entire town. As Australians, we love a good animal story and due to the
bond between the main character John and his companion Red dog was so strong it was as if the pair
were inseparable. The Australian notion of mateships is portrayed in the film when the character Joko
is talking about the type of man that should have a statue for all to admire as he states It should be
somebody who lives and breathes desolation, somebody that has red dust stuck up their nose and in
their eyes and in their ears

The Evolution Of Lean Manufacturing
LEAN MANUFACTURING
Origins of Lean Lean originally originated from Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) (McCarthy,
2015) in the early 1900 s however it wasn t until the Toyota family introduced the Toyota Production
System (TPS) into their company manufacturing operations that it began to gain recognition. In the
1950 s, Toyota first implemented quality measures within the production lines process and hence the
initial stages of continuous improvement. Taiichi Ono, who was the executive vice president,
developed and implemented the renowned Toyota Production System (TPS) after the Second World
War as a means of producing a highly effective and efficient manufacturing line for their products.
Ono took great inspiration from Henry Ford s early lean concepts and applied it to meet the demand of
their own Japanese market. This built the seeds of TPS, which today is better known as lean
manufacturing (Womack Jones, 1996). Nowadays, Lean is used globally throughout industry in all
different sizes of enterprises that can depend on the successful implementation of Lean. (Herron,
2008). Toyota s success as one of the world s largest automotive manufacturers and leading Lean
implementers stands as proof of Leans merits. (Institite, 2000 2016). This has led to enormous demand
for knowledge on leans tools and techniques as companies continue to have success with its
implementation.
What is Lean? Lean is commonly referred to as a systematic methodology to approaching and

The Merits Of Teacher Performance Pay
THE MERITS OF TEACHER PERFORMANCE PAY IN KENYA
Introduction
This paper discusses the merits of performance pay for teachers in Kenya. I argued here that
remuneration reforms for civil service teachers will achieve production efficiency. This paper has
three main sections. Section 1 gives a brief description of the scheme of service for teachers in Kenya.
Section 2 highlights the economic case in favour of teacher salaries and identifies the government
failures in ensuring teacher effectiveness.
Section 3 offers a criticism of teacher performance pay as a reform strategy in determining teacher
efficiency in Kenyan public schools. This section further delves into the issues that affect effective

The salary system is in ascending order in the scale of eleven job groups. The highest paid teacher,
chief principal (job group R) is at grade 11.The lowest paid teacher, a P2 (job group F) is at grade 1. In
addition to the basic salary, teachers are paid allowances with allocations relative to the job group
standing, this include; house allowance, commuter allowance, medical allowance, responsibility
allowances. Teachers are entitled to an automatic annual salary increase of about 4% for every year of
service (Teachers Service Commission, 2012 p 1 24). Duflo et al (2012), elaborates on teacher
recruitment and salaries in Kenya; illustrates the central role played by the Teachers Service
Commission in teacher management and trade union representation is highlighted to show how the
wage system works (Duflo et al, 2012). Michael and Mathew (2007) underscore that salary schemes
for teachers are almost a worldwide characteristic of public schools. They rely on data from national
surveys that indicate that 100% of teachers in public schools are paid using a pay set salary system
(Michael and Mathew, 2007).
Glazerman et al, (2011) argue that the single salary system was created to address equity issues and
has spread over the globe, where teachers regularly get paid based on qualification and experience as
opposed to the measure of teacher effectiveness and their students results. (Glazerman et al, 2011;

Frame Narrative In Beowulf
Early English literature proceeds from orally transmitted storytelling, relying on the construction of an
epic past to develop a sense of patriotism within the country. As written culture becomes more
prevalent, however, this genre s timeless attribute diminishes due an increase in recorded history
which gradually turns literature s focus from mystical origins to a concrete present. Frame narrative,
or stories within a story, exist prevalently within the epic genre, but persist throughout this transition,
generally preserving structure, but mutating in function. Although early literature forms like the epic
employ frame narratives to convey their grandiose style, the transition from historical epics to satirical
poetry aligns with frame narrative s transition as an element of style to one of theme. In British oral
tradition, storytelling mainly serves to instill patriotic zeal within citizens. The advent of literacy
results in the transcription of these stories, which predominantly take the form of the epic: an origin
story in which an epic hero displays heroic acts in a setting with few temporal cues, disconnecting the
story from any specific point in history. Beowulf, one such epic, exhibits these properties, with events
transpiring without indication of the relative passage of time. One literary device which lends itself to
the manifestation of this quality, the frame narrative, muddles the reader s perspective of time by
constantly by jumping between events in the main

Happy, The Truth Of Happiness
In the documentary Freakonomics, the basic theme follows the idea of breaking beyond the system,
and what the system says that you are going to be. With a different documentary called Happy,
happiness is explained by the way happiness is achieved; it says that happiness is based around love
and a positive attitude. Together, the documentaries Happy and Freakonomics examine and prove the
statement that your destiny is determined by you and what you perceive life. In the documentary
Happy, the truth of happiness is shown through the love of others. Along with that Freakonomics goes
into depth the truth that who you think you are determined to be, and who you could be. The two
documentaries amplify and improve around this idea that, breaking out of the norms of life, we can
become extraordinary people.
To truly have a life of purpose, according to the documentary Happy you need to be happy with what
you have. In the beginning of the documentary Happy people were in the documentary, were asked
what they wanted to get out of life, and most of them said to be happy or to achieve the American
dream, to be happy . In Happy, the focus revolves around the basic idea of happiness and that we need
to achieve this awareness of true happiness is to do what we love: ...the things we love to do are the
building blocks of a happy life. Play, having new experiences, friends and family, doing things that are
meaningful, and appreciating what we have; these are the things that make us happy,

Analysis Of Arthur Miller s Death Of Salesman
Research paper on death of salesman Arthur Miller created stories that express the deepest meanings
of struggle. Miller is the most prominent twentieth century American playwrights. He based his works
on his own life, and his observations of the American scene. Arthur Asher Miller was born 17 October
1915 in Manhattan, New York city. He was the son of Jewish immigrants from Poland. His parents
had a prosperous clothing company. Unfortunately when the stock market crashed, because his family
invested all of their money in the market, they lost everything. The family then moved to a small
house in Brooklyn. This happened during miller s teen years, and because of that miller was shaped by
the poverty that surrounded him. Miller saw the fragility and vulnerability of humans, when they are
faced with a great economic crisis. Miller graduated as an average student from Abraham Lincoln high
school. And due to financial reasons, he worked in an auto part warehouse, and during this time he has
come across anti Semitism, which became a major theme of his later work (Marino). After getting
rejected two times, Miller got enrolled into the University of Michigan, and he started his career as a
playwright at Michigan. In his sophomore year miller wrote No Villain, which is his first play. This
play earned him a scholarship money. In his college years, Miller won several awards for writing
plays. He graduated from college in 1938, and returned to New York, where he worked as a

The Flat Tax System
Taxes are something the people of America have had an issue with since the very creation of this
nation, and it is one of the main reasons the Revolutionary War was fought. The issue of taxes has
morphed over time, and in our current time period, people are debating which tax system should be
implemented. Even though this is a broad topic and a national issue, this paper will only cover the
income tax version of these systems, and which income tax system would be most beneficial to the
state of Texas specifically. Currently, there are three main types of income tax systems, and they are
the progressive income tax system, the flat income tax system, and the no income tax system. By

Also, if the government wanted to raise more revenue through raising income taxes, and there was a
flat income tax system in place, they would have to raise the income taxes for everyone across the
board. Now, let s look back the example from earlier where person one made $50,000 and person two
made $100,000. Remember, they both payed the same percentage of their income in taxes, which was
10%: person one payed $5,000, person two payed $10,000. Some people will say that this way of
taxation is unfair because the $5,000 means more to person one than the $10,000 means to person two.
Regardless of whether the $5,000 means more to person one than the $10,000 means to person two is
true or not, they are being treated fairly because they are both paying the same percentage of their
income. The flat tax has good points like its simplicity and ability to stimulate an economy, but it also
has weaknesses like its inability to be flexible after implementation and the possibility of putting even
more of a tax burden on lower income families. Let s move on to the third and final tax system to be
covered which is no income

The Last Mohicans Conflict Essay
Conflicts in The Last Mohicans From the first chapter in James Fenimore Cooper s Leatherstocking
Tale The Last Mohicans the evidence of extreme conflict between multiple parties is glaringly

tame it, the clash between the French and the Colonials/British over the new world territory, the
emulation between the various tribes of Indians, and the conflict between the main heroes and villains

This led to many a battle in which the Indians and Europeans participated. The bloodiest conflict of
these was the massacre after the fall of Fort William Henry. The initial conflict that sparked the
slaughter after the British had surrendered and abandoned the fort was that between an Indian from the
Heron tribe, (They are allies of the French), and a mother with a baby leaving the fort. The inhabitants
of the fort had been allowed to leave in a procession, but the gaudy colors of a shawl (180) attracted
the eye of a young Heron. He tried to seize it from the mother and when she held it away, he took her
babe instead. She then attempted to give the shawl to him, but now uncaring, he dashed the head of
the baby against a rock and killed the mother with a tomahawk. Then the Herons leapt upon the
previous occupants of the fort and killed them, scalped them, and drank their blood. ...many among
them even kneeled to the earth, and drank freely, exultingly, hellishly, of the crimson tide (182). In
describing this, Cooper shows the brutal nature of some of the Indians and what happens in the
conflicts between them and their enemies. Also the French did not try to stop this act, so it is perceived
that they knew about it and it was planned along. This is proof of the hatred of the French against the
English, by using their Indian allies to commit this act of terror. These

Midterm Essay Passing, by Nella Larsen
Passing, by Nella Larsen is a novel all about pretending to be something that you are not. It is about
giving everyone the impression that everything is in order when in reality everything is falling apart.
Passing in this novel refers to the ability of a person to be classified as one thing, normally a social
group, while belonging to a different group. Passing is usually done to gain class or acceptance by
groups other than one s own. The primary focus of the novel is on racial passing which is the ability to
look white and belong to a white group when in reality the person is an African American in order to
gain privileges that were unavailable to them. Although racial passing is the main focus, another major
theme in this novel is sexual passing and identity. Sexual passing refers to a person s ability to be
judged or viewed as a heterosexual person but in reality they are homosexual or bisexual. This was a
masked theme in the novel because in the early 1900 s, homosexuality was not something that was
accepted. Larsen made it aware that these were real problems in those times without coming out
directly and saying it. The main plot of Passing focuses on two light skinned black women, Irene
Redfield and her old time friend Clare Kendry. Both women can pass as white women. Irene who is
married to a successful African American doctor, passes only when it is

Analysis Of Corecivic s Politics And The English Language
At first glance, CoreCivic strictly adheres to an ideology of acceptance and second chances, and the
discourse of their Code of Conduct strongly reflects that. However, on deeper analysis, certain
anomalies present themselves, and CoreCivic s apparent ideals begin to shift. Luckily, many of these
irregularities can be easily pointed out by applying Orwell s criteria for bad writing from Politics and
the English Language , such as misuse or overuse of idioms and vague use of language. While
CoreCivic s statements paint a remarkably friendly picture, context paints another. Firstly, nearly

The alleviation of poverty and the complete eradication of financial constraints among most individuals are two important processes that strive towards the achievement of a better life. The Canada Pension Plan is one of the income security programs set up by the government in order to assist its citizens to save for their future (Gros et al, 2013). As a college student living within the Canadian community, this program has numerous benefits to financial future. To begin with, the CPP allows individuals to make contributions early in life and then begin to receive monthly payments once individual touch the age of sixty. However, there are some factors that may influence the process of policy making for this income security program. One of the factors that affect CPP is the salary and remuneration one receives (Hemmeter, 2015). This is because the pension is deducted from the salary based on the earnings that one makes. According to Steve Hick, income security programs are mainly devised to save Canadians from unexpected economy circumstances that could arise and interrupt their lives (2013, p. 3). The cops caught them and he jokingly stated that they just got hired in the psychiatric department. Kay had to battle many thoughts, but one thing she wanted to do was make sure her struggle was known. She wanted people to know of her struggle with manic depression, and help people with a similar struggle in life. Kay says this herself, I am tired of hiding, tired of misspent and knotted energies, tired of the hypocrisy, and tired of acting as though I have something to hide. When Kay was in first grade she witnessed a plane crash during recces. She also got to volunteer at the hospital. The doctors would invite her to watch surgeries. Her home life was kind of sad due to the fact that her dad also experienced manic depression. He would have struggles when he would only want to sleep the day away. Other times, he would be mad. The way Kay had to deal with growing up with her father s struggle with manic depression helped shaped how she would respond to her own struggle with manic depression. With a mid term and two writing assignment due this next week, this is deffinatly starting to get rathe busy for me. However, for the most part the assignments and midterm are not something to concerning to me. Basically this is because thankfully, it is something that i have already started to prepare for compared to the classic last minute essay writting or cramming. Primarily the only issue at the moment that concerns me is ensuring to keep my personal political views seperate from my political science class assignments. • 8. The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association The question of whether the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) should separate public and private schools into their own divisions has been a topic of discussion for years. As a product of 14 years of Catholic education, I was fortunate enough to be able to participate in athletics during my high school career. Many of the teams that we played were public school teams from small communities where athletics were almost more important than an education. Unfortunately, I have witnessed firsthand the animosity that has surfaced between public and private schools. The PIAA is the governing body of high school sports in the state of Pennsylvania. The PIAA was founded in 1913 and initially included only public schools as members. Parochial and private schools were admitted to the PIAA in the late 1970 s. In 1997, the PA Charter School Act was passed which allowed for the creation of charter schools. The emergence of charter schools, particularly in the Philadelphia area, created even greater animosity between private and public schools. The Philadelphia schools, many of which are charter schools, were not members of the PIAA until 2003. Their athletic success at the state championship level has raised many concerns from the public sector. The primary problem that the PIAA faces today is the dominance of private schools winning the majority of state titles in all sports. Public schools have geographic boundaries that determine the school a student must ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Age Of Faith In The Middle Ages The Middle Ages came right after the fall of the Roman Empire because of its lack of centralized religion and its inability to deal with the raids of the nomadic and germanic tribes. Compared to all the revolutionary advancements of the Roman Empire, many considered the Middle Ages to be a big step back in lifestyle, education and technological advancements. The The Middle Ages have been defined as many things. It has been called the Age of Feudalism, The Golden Age, and the Dark Ages. However, the Age of Faith is a more accurate title, because during the Middle Ages the church was the main source of unity in Europe, the church was viewed as the most important and powerful part of Europe, even more powerful than the kings and governments, and finally the Age is Faith is a more accurate title because people followed the church no matter what, even through situations as extreme as the Crusades. The first reason The Age of Faith is the most accurate title is that during the Middle Ages the church was the main source of unity in Europe. For example the chart of a manor during the Middle Ages shows that a chapel was the only thing that every single manor had (Document 2). A chapel was the one thing that connected every manor. Also according to the excerpt from the museum The Roman Catholic Church was the single most unifying structure in Europe. It touched everyone s life, no matter what their rank or class was or where they lived (Document 3). This shows another example of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jackie and Larry received countless death threats, endured nonstop racism, and heard many epithets. Robinson later went on to be named the first rookie of the year. Paul Brown, founder, part owner, and coach of the Cleveland Browns fielded a team with two black players, Bill Willis and Marion Motley. After Paul Brown s bold move, the NFL agreed to allow black players to be a part of the game too, with the Browns being the first team to follow through. Essay about The Faith of Mary Rowlandson The Faith of Mary Rowlandson In her writing titled A Narrative of the Captivity and Restauration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson , Mary lies out for the reader her experience of being held in captivity by Indians during the King Philip s War. Perhaps one of the most significant aspects of this writing is the glimpse that the reader gets into Rowlandson s faith and religion. Faith was a major aspect of life in the Colonial Period. It was of widespread belief that God was to be feared, and that he was the only way to redemption (Kizer). Mary Rowlandson was no different, but the extreme conditions of her captivity caused her faith to occasionally waiver. Most of the time throughout her journey in captivity, she depended on God, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She writes And here I cannot but take notice of the strange providence of God in preserving the heathen... (Rowlandson 450). At this point Mary cannot seem to help but to contemplate why God is allowing the Indians to prevail in this war. There was no denying the stark differences between the victories of the English and the Indians. Consider the fact that the Puritans were Christians of the strictest variety, and they did not believe that the Indians were blessed with God s grace. It is quite understandable then that Mary would find it troubling that her people were suffering devastating effects of this war fought by people who were not even Christians. So she questions whether or not this is God s work. In the end she concludes that God is not helping the Indians, rather he knows that the English are not ready for his mercy, and her faith is restored once again (Rowlandson 450). As Mary s story unravels, she continues to suffer long hours of work, starvation, and separation from her family. She reads her holy bible and is constantly reminding herself that God is with her and will see her through these trials. Her spirits are lifted her master agrees to sell Mary to her husband, and her mistress begins the journey with her, but before long the mistress decides not to go any further and they turn back. Not long after, she starts to loose hope that she will ever be reunited with her family. She becomes discouraged, and her spirit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They originate in different areas, but come together to form a tendon, hence why they are commonly referred to as one muscle. How would you describe the environment, goals, culture, size, and technology for Aquarius? ANSWER: Aquarius is a middle sized firm operating in a relatively unstable environment, particularly because in the industry it was common to lose or gain clients quickly because of consumer behavior changes or product innovation, sometimes with no advance warning. The technology is predominantly nonroutine because of the emphasis on creativity and art. The structure is functional with full time integrators who provide horizontal linkage. ANSWER: To determine whether a matrix structure is feasible now, or will be feasible in the future, students should examine the requirements for a matrix. Is there a dual domain competitive issue? Perhaps, in this case. Service and creativity require technical competence within each function, and yet at the same time, effective coordination across functions. Is the environment uncertain? Overall, there is potential for rapid environmental change. The environment of an advertising agency is not as uncertain, and does not have as great a potential for instability as the environment of computer chip manufacturers, but nevertheless the environment is relatively uncertain. Customers change agencies frequently, and employees drift from agency to agency. New developments and techniques occur in the industry s technology. Is there a need to share resources across project or product lines? Yes, one of the problems of moving to a hybrid structure with account executives serving as the focus of line authority is the tremendous duplication of functional resources. Unless an agency is extremely large, it cannot afford to have separate teams of art, copy, merchandising, media, and research specialists for every account executive. This is an example of the need for shared resources that typifies a matrix structure. Thus a matrix structure might be feasible for Aquarius Advertising. But in this situation, matrix is not the ... Johnson constructs his argument through synecdoche, offering a few examples to stand for the infinite number of wishes one might make. So, too, the few people cited suggest the many others the reader can imagine. Preferring the general to the specific, Johnson finds synecdoche a convenient device for description. There is a myriad of definitions and ways to describe disordered speech. To put it simply; speech is the physical production of sounds through a series of air pressure waves in the vocal tract. A disorder is a difficulty or the manner in which speech is not found in typically developing children (Pert Stow, 2015). The term Speech Sound Disorder is very much a generic label. It encompasses a heterogeneous population including children whose speech is intelligible but may have a lisp. One question I have is the tyrannical man destined to be a tyrant because he has a noble democratic father? These desires lead men towards ghastly, shameless, criminal actions that are particularly bad for someone in an position of power. Socrates offers an example of a lawless desire is the desire to sleep with one s mother, something that is horrible to do in any society. It is made clear that all of us have lawless desires, which is indubitably true. The proof is that these desires occasionally come out at night, in our dreams, when the rational part of us is not on guard. But only the tyrannical man allows these desires to emerge in life while he is awake during the day. Plato s description continues, the tyrannical man is the son of the democratic man. His father is not lawless, but he does indulge unnecessary desires. Just like the father, the son is exposed to drones, men with lawless desires. However the father had his own oligarchic father s thriftiness to pull him toward the middle road of democracy. This is crucial for the balance one must have to be a ruler in society. Now this son brought up on the democratic ethos, moves further toward lawlessness. The father and entire household try to win him back, but the ultimate triumph of the lawless is inevitable. The Romans believed that without a proper burial, a spirit would cause unhappiness for those living. Good morning ladies and gentlemen for the AFC, and the quote you have just heard is from the Australian film Red dog and is stated to be one of the most powerful quotes in Australian theatre. Australian film has been around for many years and of those years there have been many examples of what some might like to call a masterpiece. Some of these films include the Mad Max series, Gallipoli, Crocodile Dundee but of these films, the film that stands out the most to audiences is the movie Red dog. Red dog is directed by Australian producer Kriv Stenders and was made in 2011. The story takes place during the 1970 s so one would expect to view various counts of racism and sexism but there was no evidense of these themes ever showing as the dialogue had been written for a G rating. It was as if the whole production has had its mouth washed out with soap by there mother for cursing. The reason this film was successful to most was because of the message it portrayed as the movie was based around a young Australian Kelpie named Red dog and how he united a fractured community while searching for his master. The movie is highly regarded today as of the best Australian films as it brings all Australian values to the table. The main reason for the audiences love for this film is because of its portrayal of a character s loyalty, mateship and the Australian Landscape and this is what occurs throughout the film. Mateship is a big part of Australian culture as us as Australians live and breathe the words of friendship and that is why this film is so successful, because it brought an un unlikely hero and made the character bond with an entire town. As Australians, we love a good animal story and due to the bond between the main character John and his companion Red dog was so strong it was as if the pair were inseparable. The Australian notion of mateships is portrayed in the film when the character Joko is talking about the type of man that should have a statue for all to admire as he states It should be somebody who lives and breathes desolation, somebody that has red dust stuck up their nose and in their eyes and in their ears ... • 31. Frame Narrative In Beowulf Early English literature proceeds from orally transmitted storytelling, relying on the construction of an epic past to develop a sense of patriotism within the country. As written culture becomes more prevalent, however, this genre s timeless attribute diminishes due an increase in recorded history which gradually turns literature s focus from mystical origins to a concrete present. Frame narrative, or stories within a story, exist prevalently within the epic genre, but persist throughout this transition, generally preserving structure, but mutating in function. Although early literature forms like the epic employ frame narratives to convey their grandiose style, the transition from historical epics to satirical poetry aligns with frame narrative s transition as an element of style to one of theme. In British oral tradition, storytelling mainly serves to instill patriotic zeal within citizens. The advent of literacy results in the transcription of these stories, which predominantly take the form of the epic: an origin story in which an epic hero displays heroic acts in a setting with few temporal cues, disconnecting the story from any specific point in history. Beowulf, one such epic, exhibits these properties, with events transpiring without indication of the relative passage of time. One literary device which lends itself to the manifestation of this quality, the frame narrative, muddles the reader s perspective of time by constantly by jumping between events in the main ... With a different documentary called Happy, happiness is explained by the way happiness is achieved; it says that happiness is based around love and a positive attitude. Together, the documentaries Happy and Freakonomics examine and prove the statement that your destiny is determined by you and what you perceive life. In the documentary Happy, the truth of happiness is shown through the love of others. Along with that Freakonomics goes into depth the truth that who you think you are determined to be, and who you could be. The two documentaries amplify and improve around this idea that, breaking out of the norms of life, we can become extraordinary people. To truly have a life of purpose, according to the documentary Happy you need to be happy with what you have. In the beginning of the documentary Happy people were in the documentary, were asked what they wanted to get out of life, and most of them said to be happy or to achieve the American dream, to be happy . In Happy, the focus revolves around the basic idea of happiness and that we need to achieve this awareness of true happiness is to do what we love: ...the things we love to do are the building blocks of a happy life. Miller is the most prominent twentieth century American playwrights. He based his works on his own life, and his observations of the American scene. Arthur Asher Miller was born 17 October 1915 in Manhattan, New York city. He was the son of Jewish immigrants from Poland. His parents had a prosperous clothing company. Unfortunately when the stock market crashed, because his family invested all of their money in the market, they lost everything. The family then moved to a small house in Brooklyn. This happened during miller s teen years, and because of that miller was shaped by the poverty that surrounded him. Miller saw the fragility and vulnerability of humans, when they are faced with a great economic crisis. Miller graduated as an average student from Abraham Lincoln high school. And due to financial reasons, he worked in an auto part warehouse, and during this time he has come across anti Semitism, which became a major theme of his later work (Marino). • 35. The Flat Tax System Taxes are something the people of America have had an issue with since the very creation of this nation, and it is one of the main reasons the Revolutionary War was fought. The issue of taxes has morphed over time, and in our current time period, people are debating which tax system should be implemented. Even though this is a broad topic and a national issue, this paper will only cover the income tax version of these systems, and which income tax system would be most beneficial to the state of Texas specifically. Currently, there are three main types of income tax systems, and they are the progressive income tax system, the flat income tax system, and the no income tax system. By analyzing research from reputable economists and academic journalists, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, if the government wanted to raise more revenue through raising income taxes, and there was a flat income tax system in place, they would have to raise the income taxes for everyone across the board. Now, let s look back the example from earlier where person one made $50,000 and person two made $100,000. Remember, they both payed the same percentage of their income in taxes, which was 10%: person one payed $5,000, person two payed $10,000. Some people will say that this way of taxation is unfair because the $5,000 means more to person one than the $10,000 means to person two. Regardless of whether the $5,000 means more to person one than the $10,000 means to person two is true or not, they are being treated fairly because they are both paying the same percentage of their income. The flat tax has good points like its simplicity and ability to stimulate an economy, but it also has weaknesses like its inability to be flexible after implementation and the possibility of putting even more of a tax burden on lower income families. Let s move on to the third and final tax system to be covered which is no income ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Last Mohicans Conflict Essay Conflicts in The Last Mohicans From the first chapter in James Fenimore Cooper s Leatherstocking Tale The Last Mohicans the evidence of extreme conflict between multiple parties is glaringly obvious. The struggle between the wilderness of the American country and those who endeavored to tame it, the clash between the French and the Colonials/British over the new world territory, the emulation between the various tribes of Indians, and the conflict between the main heroes and villains of the story are all very prevalent in this historic novel. James Cooper shows how the conflicts between these very different groups of people and nature itself has a predominate effect on all who are involved. Cooper s descriptions of the North American ... The bloodiest conflict of these was the massacre after the fall of Fort William Henry. The initial conflict that sparked the slaughter after the British had surrendered and abandoned the fort was that between an Indian from the Heron tribe, (They are allies of the French), and a mother with a baby leaving the fort. The inhabitants of the fort had been allowed to leave in a procession, but the gaudy colors of a shawl (180) attracted the eye of a young Heron. He tried to seize it from the mother and when she held it away, he took her babe instead. She then attempted to give the shawl to him, but now uncaring, he dashed the head of the baby against a rock and killed the mother with a tomahawk. Then the Herons leapt upon the previous occupants of the fort and killed them, scalped them, and drank their blood. ...many among them even kneeled to the earth, and drank freely, exultingly, hellishly, of the crimson tide (182). In describing this, Cooper shows the brutal nature of some of the Indians and what happens in the conflicts between them and their enemies. Also the French did not try to stop this act, so it is perceived that they knew about it and it was planned along. This is proof of the hatred of the French against the English, by using their Indian allies to commit this act of terror. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Passing, By Nella Larsen Mariem Kakeh Prof. Kangyl Ko English 63 10 October 6, 2015 Midterm Essay Passing, by Nella Larsen Passing, by Nella Larsen is a novel all about pretending to be something that you are not. It is about giving everyone the impression that everything is in order when in reality everything is falling apart. Passing in this novel refers to the ability of a person to be classified as one thing, normally a social group, while belonging to a different group. Passing is usually done to gain class or acceptance by groups other than one s own. The primary focus of the novel is on racial passing which is the ability to look white and belong to a white group when in reality the person is an African American in order to gain privileges that were unavailable to them. Although racial passing is the main focus, another major theme in this novel is sexual passing and identity. Sexual passing refers to a person s ability to be judged or viewed as a heterosexual person but in reality they are homosexual or bisexual. This was a masked theme in the novel because in the early 1900 s, homosexuality was not something that was accepted. Larsen made it aware that these were real problems in those times without coming out directly and saying it. The main plot of Passing focuses on two light skinned black women, Irene Redfield and her old time friend Clare Kendry. Both women can pass as white women. Irene who is married to a successful African American doctor, passes only when it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mia Hebib s piece, Irregularities , a set of stackable rings, is comparable to The Bobrinsky Bucket . The Bobrinsky Bucket is a brass work and is augmented in a way that makes it a luxury object; two artisans, a caster and a decorator, out of brass with copper and silver inlay , made it. This is a vessel that is meant to wish positive experiences to the owner through its inscriptions and imagery. The inscriptions, in some spots, look like they are playing bat gammon, drinking, and playing music. Another band contains an inscription that sends good wishes to the owner. This inscription is hard to read because there are human and animals forms in this inscription. The third register is again, good wishes. The last register is a bunch of horsemen hunting and fighting. On the rim of the bucket is another inscription that says who ordered it and for who it was made and who made it. On the handle it tells us that the vessel was made in 1163. This vessel would have been used for bathing in a bathhouse. • 39. Analysis Of Corecivic s Politics And The English Language At first glance, CoreCivic strictly adheres to an ideology of acceptance and second chances, and the discourse of their Code of Conduct strongly reflects that. However, on deeper analysis, certain anomalies present themselves, and CoreCivic s apparent ideals begin to shift. Luckily, many of these irregularities can be easily pointed out by applying Orwell s criteria for bad writing from Politics and the English Language , such as misuse or overuse of idioms and vague use of language. While CoreCivic s statements paint a remarkably friendly picture, context paints another. Firstly, nearly every statement made by CoreCivic is unnaturally saturated by honorific words and phrases, oftentimes with as many as four in a single sentence. In conjunction ... This kind of language may be great for public image and investor trust, but through the lens of Orwell s analysis of modern language, it becomes far more disingenuous.
